tire buying should be. Well here we are happy Friday
at least well, I mean, the Mets are losing to
(01:01):
the Rockies. Maybe Michael CONFORDO killed the Mets yesterday. Psychologically,
that has really been affecting you. We've been sitting waiting
for the uh the bell to ring for us, and
you just keep going. We're getting shut out by the Rockies. Boy,
how I envy their uniforms and we're being shut out
by the Rockies.
Speaker 3 (01:20):
Michael Conforto, Yeah, broke the Mets. He killed the Mets.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
That guy looks like Willie Nelson in the front row.
So I mean, you got a lot of stuff going on. Yeah, no,
it is. It is one of those nights. It is
absolutely one of those nights. Look as we're gonna be
looking ahead to the big game two in the NBA
Finals tomorrow. We got Game two of the Stanley Cup Final. Tonight,
we have what is likely going to be a Texas
National Championship and college softball as they are blowing out
(01:46):
Texas Tech right now ten to three. Nisa Cannedy is
out of the game. They scored six runs off her
in the first inning, and you know, kind of a
glass half full day for her because Okay, they're gonna
likely lose, but you got another million for next year,
so there's that. I think she's the big winner.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
It also kind of shows if you keep going back
to the well with the same pitcher, well, that hitter
is kind of know what's going on, aren't they. I
will tell you this, right, I'll tell you one thing
softball is that it doesn't matter how good a pitcher is, right,
if you can if you can throw like like that,
the uh, the one Tennessee pitcher that can throw seventy
(02:25):
six seventy seven, right, Okay, if you can, if you
can master that, that's a real difficult thing to catch
up to, no matter what. But no matter how good
a pitcher you are, when you see the same pitcher
three days in a row, every single pitch, eventually, guess
what they're gonna lock on you, Right, That's the thing, Like,
I see why you throw her out there, right, she's unbeatable.
(02:48):
But even the best pitchers, when you see them three
days in a row and you see all her pitches
live and it's the same lineup that's now taking their
eighth and ninth act bats off of her in the
last three days, that what we saw earlier in the year,
we're seeing you've seen her three days in a row.
That that's gonna happen. Right, no matter how good you are,
that that's gonna happen. I mean, are you not gonna
(03:09):
go of course not, You're gonna go with it, right?
You need you needed to go with her in Game
one obviously, you had to come back with her in
game two because you were short, you know, short of
winning the championship. You need to win that game. But
now here you are game three, and she just gets
knocked all over the park. Like I'll tell you that
that no matter who you are, they're gonna lock onto
you when they see your stuff. Three straight down, the
margins are lost, and there's the familiarity. You've seen all
(03:32):
the sequencing, right, you're taking pitches, you're seeing all how
how to work the bat, and you don't have that
many bullets in the arm. You just don't like Eventually,
the velocity's gonna be off, the placement's gonna be off,
whatever it is. And for Texas today, uh put up
a ten spot at this point as we watch in
(03:52):
the bottom of the sixth but another million dollars.
Speaker 3 (03:56):
So in the end, it's not win.
Speaker 1 (03:58):
Yeah yeah, somebody. Okay, So here's your day, right, what
would you rather have? You could win the national championship
or get a million dollars?
Speaker 3 (04:06):
Yeah, give me the million dollars.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
Now, unless I had some bonuses tied to had we
won the national title.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
Oh you know what I mean that you had.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
Performance bonuses somewhere if hey, we're in a weird world,
so you can't tell me categorically no, yes, yes, or whatever.
I mean, you could go full uh flip the coin
and that and maybe be right, we don't know. We
are in a really strange rule right so far. To me,
that was that's I mean that that beats the crap
out of my question earlier this week. Would I take
the Knicks going to the finals if my car was
(04:38):
to be stolen, which we got on that would I
be okay with my car being stolen if it guaranteed
the nix of the finals.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
And that was a big that's a big wait. It's
a nice car, but I mean, yeah, the answers, yes,
this take my car. This is a tough one, man.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
I mean, you're you're talking about national championship, a life
that or a million dollars.
Speaker 3 (04:55):
That's a day.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
Well, because if they've won the national title, it also
do force every organization, every school to sit back and
ponder where the dollars and cents are flowing in college softball,
right because hey, you paid a million bucks for a
title for this year. Yeah, okay, had they won it
(05:18):
right there, you feel it and it's like, well, we
paid a million dollars, so we were close. And now
we're getting into a lot of analysis and folks trying
to go through and put together their best assessment of
what each program put up cost wise.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
For the year.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
But obviously a lot of run for Texas Tech, reaching
heights heretofore unheard of, but falling short. So speaking of money, right,
and again it's a ten to three Texas lead going
to the top of this. In the bottom of the
sixth inning, Texas still batting. I will tell you this,
speaking of money, this is the original Friday night news
(05:57):
dump where it's like, hey, we want to rule on
something and we're gonna make sure that. Hey, by the
time Monday hits were past it, Oh, I thought you
were gonna bring up the fact that they were still
talking to Connor Stallions.
Speaker 3 (06:08):
Look, you've still be locked in a room somewhere.
Speaker 1 (06:11):
No, but but this was we thought this was coming,
and now it's here. Judge Claudia Wilkin has approved the
long rumored deal between the NCAA and lawyers representing all
Division I athletes. Now schools can directly pay their athletes. Remember,
because it's all been the nil ARA has all been Hey,
(06:31):
through third parties, we can do it. Now schools can
directly pay their athletes. The NCAA is gonna also pay
nearly three billion dollars in back damages. But now each
school can pay twenty and a half million dollars to
their athletes. Football of course getting the largest part of that.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
But now you have.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
Now schools can absolutely just directly pay their athletes, which
they're hoping is going to. Oh, this is gonna stem
the tide for all the all the nil it's out
of control. Yeah, good luck with that, good luck, good luck.
It's just nice that now the schools, hey, we can compete,
we can give money out because now what what this
is like? Why is it such a big deal? Yes,
(07:10):
now all the D big D one schools can do this.
Now the schools that have a tough time with NIL
can at least be more competitive across the board. These
schools now that can pay. Okay, now we can do
it because some schools look the NIL era. If you
can succeed in the nil era, if if you can
get you can loosen the purse strings to get people
to pay your athletes, that's how you're winning, right, How
(07:32):
do you think Syracuse is suddenly winning in football? How
do you think Duke is suddenly doing well in football?
They figured out NIL and other schools like UCLA has
been hey, where the hell is the money?
Speaker 3 (07:41):
Where u c l A? Right?
Speaker 1 (07:43):
But now this is going to help those schools compete.
That's the big takeaway is that these schools out there
having trouble, at least they'll be in the mix now
to get athletes and get It's not we have to
rely on guses used cars and hey, you know we're
not really getting what it was in the past because
now nil's has gotten so big and all the big
donors are so mega donors, and you know, you hear
(08:03):
the sum of the money, like Cooper Flag, I think
what made ninety million dollars in NIL money last year. So,
I mean you're seeing this. This is gonna be a
big thing. But if you think this is suddenly gonna
tamp down stuff and hey we're getting more under control,
yeah good luck with that. That's not happening. Yeah, Cooper Flag,
what was an estimated twenty eight to thirty whereas there's
rookie contracts gonna be worth sixty two. Yeah, that's why
(08:23):
should should have gone back to school, should have gone back.
It's just one of those things that kind of throws that.
Let me raise my hand for a second. Let's do
the math as we look at the rookie wage scales.
We certainly have talked about it a lot, going back
to the Caleb Williams situation. I'm curious in terms of
the two point eight billion dollars or thereabout that's going
(08:43):
to be allocated in damages, like the rules of engagement changed.
Speaker 3 (08:48):
Why are they eligible for money?
Speaker 1 (08:51):
I don't quite get that, but hey, good for them.
Get a couple of extra bucks. Maybe if you took
out student loans, it'll help you defray that. Or you
could buy a car, maybe you buy the stolen car
of Jason Smith.
Speaker 3 (09:03):
Yeah again, you're listening to the whole show.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
But all of this, say, say what initial annual allotment
twenty to twenty three million dollars per school according to
estimates effect July one, And it's it's a big day,
right for all these athletic directors and the I mean,
how many times did we hear the hey just donate
now for anything related?
Speaker 3 (09:26):
Clicked the button clicked, the button clicked, the button.
Speaker 1 (09:28):
On it now, hey, you know what, there's a cornerback
that we've been eyny, but he's gonna leave the city
unless you donate. Now every dime we'll go to the
recruitment of this young man. Now, look, let me let
me just break this because it is it is a
lot of inside baseball. And look, we want to give
you the right takeaways of this, and this is that, Okay,
schools are now more competitive.
Speaker 3 (09:49):
But the big thing that the big bs.
Speaker 1 (09:52):
I remember an airplane when when when Elane tells everybody
the plane is he goes, she goes, don't worry, everybody,
stay calm, and it comes up b bs, We're.
Speaker 3 (10:01):
All going to be fined.
Speaker 1 (10:02):
Boom, extreme bs, extreme bs. Now, part of this in
theory was to give the schools power to create new
rules that could limit the influence of boosters. Right, this
is exactly from the Associated Press recap of this story.
Starting this summer, any endorsement deal between a booster and
an athlete will be vetted to ensure it is for
(10:24):
a quote valid business purpose rather than a recruiting incentive.
Speaker 4 (10:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (10:29):
Sure, well, like I read this and.
Speaker 1 (10:31):
I go, do you really believe that that the ink
you're using to write this story that people may print
out is worth it? You really think, oh, now we're
getting control of that. Now it's just twenty more million
dollars that you're gonna be able put out there and
give to give to people. It's still out of control.
It's just allowing these other schools with nil trouble. Hey,
(10:52):
we now have somewhat of a seat of the table. Now,
what it's going to really be is that if school
X is, hey, we're doing great, and we have twenty
million nil money, and now we get twenty more million
versus the other school, it'd say, well, we have three
million nil money, now we have twenty million. Okay, we
have forty million and you have twenty three million. We
still have that advantage over you. That's the big thing.
But to think this is suddenly going to stop, Yes,
(11:13):
we are going to put that. No, it's not all
because the NCAA got so greedy, didn't think they'd ever
have to pay players, didn't think they'd ever lose in
quarter a few years ago. And this is why we
are where we are because we were so cocky and
so arrogant, and we wanted to tamp down and thought
these greedy players that want money and want stuff. We
want to make money off their name, image and likeness.
(11:35):
All they had to do was say, you know what,
if we sell something that's your name on it, we'll
give you money.
Speaker 3 (11:39):
That's all.
Speaker 1 (11:40):
That's all the schools had to agree. That's all the
ns degree to. Hey, if it's something personalized with their
number on it, their name, we'll we'll give money to
that person. That's all anybody was looking for. But now,
because you were so cocky and arrogant and thought we're
always gonna win, you don't see that there's an evolving
a push out there that the world is changing more
towards play rights and player benefits. It's their fault.
Speaker 3 (12:02):
We're here.
Speaker 1 (12:03):
So now they've got to navigate this incredibly messy situation because, yeah,
we couldn't see to it because once we thought we
would agree to it, it would get a lot of drunk Well,
all you could have tamped that down and instead, look
where you are. It's all your fault. Well, because you
still have a mixed mixed plate so to speak, of
a cap coming through off this revenue share. Right, So
(12:24):
twenty twenty million, twenty two, whatever that number is, we'll
say twenty, nice and round, but that somewhere like fifteen
to seventeen is going to football. You don't think there's
gonna be fights over salary caps and trusts, everything.
Speaker 3 (12:38):
Else, everything.
Speaker 1 (12:40):
Yes, it's Friday night, lights come to light. Of course
football gets and then you still have well we have
nil payments through this clearing house.
Speaker 3 (12:47):
Yeah, so you've still got that.
Speaker 1 (12:49):
I'm like, well, this is how we get around that
cap so we can still have a competitive advantage like this.
This is nowhere near an end point. It's a nice
Friday dump to say, Okay, this is great. Can't wait
to see what next legal briefs are filed. Yeah, look
it's and and all schools are excited because it just
gives them extra money.
Speaker 3 (13:07):
It's like, oh, we're giving you this extra twenty million.
Speaker 1 (13:09):
Dollars you can spend right here it is, and then
next y it'll just be going I'd be like the
salary cap in the NFL, go this year's twenty to
twenty three million. Then it's gonna be twenty five, then
thirty million, then thirty five. Then Goodella's getting involved, and
then suddenly big payments are going out to people that
said that that broker deals like, oh, it's good salary
cap it's just going up and up and up and
up and up. Right, so it's more money. Hey, more
(13:31):
money's out there for the kids. More schools can sit
at the table because they have this easily now illegally
going right from school to player. But if you think
for a second this is going to tamp that down,
you are insane. You are absolutely insane. Oh no, it's
just the next iteration in a long arduous process. Still
the fighting over whether these students athletes see what they
(13:53):
did there are employees of the school or not. So
that's the other wrinkle that's still really not resolved. Are
we just a bunch of mercenaries? Are we the Savannah
Bananas come to play a couple of saturdays in the fall?
Speaker 3 (14:09):
I mean, so next level.
Speaker 1 (14:12):
It's a nice announcement on a Friday, but it just
gets far more arguments and lawsuits. Happy Friday night news up, everybody,

Speaker 1 (15:47):
Happy Friday, Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon.
Speaker 3 (15:52):
So what did I tell you yesterday?
Speaker 1 (15:55):
Every day for throughout the NBA Finals and beyond, we
are gonna get a big name mentioned in connection with
the Knicks coaching job.
Speaker 3 (16:06):
Right, We're gonna get one.
Speaker 1 (16:07):
Every cause the Knicks are gonna enjoy this time where hey,
we're just as big as the NBA Finals our coaching search.
We're a big destination. Yes, we're gonna turn the page
and that incredible collapse against the Pacers to hey, who's
gonna come lead us?
Speaker 3 (16:20):
Right?
Speaker 1 (16:21):
And I told you every day we're gonna get somehow
not interview like an Advent calendar. I interview.
Speaker 3 (16:26):
Oh, you open one up every day and again there's
there's a chocolate, but the wrapping is of a different coach. Yeah. Oh,
I like that. I like that. We actually did an
Advent calendar for Benny.
Speaker 2 (16:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (16:35):
Uh, for the best time.
Speaker 1 (16:36):
Yeah, yeah, and you know, beginning it was you know,
we come, we get get a treat out and he
would get it and then after like the third day,
he would like it up in the morning, go down
and just plod and go.
Speaker 3 (16:45):
Hey, where's my where's my treat? Where's my Advent calendar treat?
Come on?
Speaker 1 (16:49):
Did he break through all of it like most people
do with Advent calendars filled with candy, which is how
we start every year, and so I December fourth ate
them all. Well, the thing is that the smart thing
we did was get one that was that was in
a wrapper, so it's not like you could smell it
and tear oh like that, Like two days in a row,
he's like, hey, we started every day with this right,
which we trained him quickly.
Speaker 3 (17:08):
Then that's good, there is it? Oh? Well, when it's
food motivated these, well that is true.
Speaker 1 (17:13):
So yeah, I told you every single day you're gonna
get it and not interviewed because the Knicks can't.
Speaker 3 (17:17):
Here's the thing.
Speaker 1 (17:18):
The Knicks can't be told no bye by a lot
of people. Really, one person can't tell them no because
then suddenly it's what's wrong with the job?
Speaker 3 (17:26):
Is it a destination? You can't have that right.
Speaker 1 (17:29):
You can't be told no, but being mentioned is absolutely
what's going to happen as the Knicks figure the figure
their stuff out.
Speaker 3 (17:36):
Right.
Speaker 1 (17:36):
So yesterday was the first day and we had Rick Patino. Okay,
Rick Patino who said, no, no interest. I coached the
next on that there. Okay, it's a good start to
start out with, though, big name showing out, throwing out
first pitches, showing up forward side, wearing his Miami vice
sure that yeah, bottle of red, bottle of what Yeah, No,
(17:59):
it's all great today. Jason Kidd, who that is still
under contract with the Dallas Mavericks.
Speaker 3 (18:06):
Details.
Speaker 1 (18:07):
So Mark Stein, friend of the show, who was joined
us earlier this week, had the report that the Knicks
potentially would like to talk to Jason Kidd. They would
need the Mavericks permission to do this. Now, let me
just say one thing before I give you my big take,
all right, tell me I want to Uh. The Mavericks are
still really bleeping pissed that the Knicks just came in
(18:29):
and basically swiped Jalen Brunson out from under them, right
that the you know what when Leon rose when they
had the big Knicks contingent, that went to the started
going to the games when he was gonna be a
free agent, right, Rick Brunson was gonna bring bring his
son in.
Speaker 3 (18:43):
Right.
Speaker 1 (18:43):
So the Mavericks are really pissed. They're really really pissed.
And are they gonna really give permission to the Knicks
to talk to Jason Kidd because it's not like Jason
Kidd is like, hey, I got to get out of here. Man,
It's like, oh, no, Cooper flag is coming. I'm feeling
feeling pretty good. In all the interviews he did after
they won the lottery. No, you know the kid from Duke,
(19:05):
he can't say his name. No, no, no, you can talk
about it, and you know, well that kid from Duke's
you know, no, it's it's and that's why it's like, okay,
so he's feeling okay, do you really? I mean, I
would look, there's things i'd be so I was, I'd
be more surprised if the if the Mavericks said yes
than I was the Pacers coming back to winning last night.
I am more surprised about that than that, if than
(19:26):
if this action, if the Pacers saying yeah, sure, go ahead,
because I'm telling you, man, the Mavericks nation is going
to just absolutely employed. So we steal a point guard
who really could have maybe brought us the title. Oh
now you let him take our coats? Okay, all right, great,
now that that's wonderful. Well maybe they don't love Jason
Kidd though, that's good, they love what the next iteration
just Cooper flag loved Jason Kidd?
Speaker 3 (19:48):
If they did, well, how about that.
Speaker 1 (19:50):
There's a question, Hey, find a number for Cooper Flagg
or a member of his family.
Speaker 3 (19:54):
What's he saying about.
Speaker 1 (19:58):
If they didn't if if they didn't like it, he
would have been gone. Right, If they didn't like it,
he would have been gone. They would have found a
way to move on and bring somebody else in. Right,
So that's not that's not happening, right, I mean really really,
it's like, oh, now you want.
Speaker 3 (20:12):
Us to do this? This is like uh, in if.
Speaker 1 (20:15):
You if a guy breaks up with a girlfriend breaks
up with a guy to date somebody else, right, and
it's like okay, you know that that's cool, and then like, uh,
you know, maybe like a year later, the guy goes
back to the guy the girl broke up with to say, Hey,
I just want to know that new girl you're dating.
Speaker 3 (20:33):
Yeah, I'd like permission to date her. I like to
date her. Now. Yeah she's great.
Speaker 1 (20:37):
This you know your old girlfriend is great, but this
is I'm excited. Now I want to go date her.
And he says, yeah, sure, go ahead, that's fine, that's fine,
that's fine, go ahead.
Speaker 3 (20:47):
It's not happening. Not happening.
Speaker 1 (20:48):
Well, it's just the curiosity, right, what kind of compensation
would the Mavericks be and Nico be looking for in return?
I mean, because you already traded off a lot of
first first round picks, so you don't have that giant
pile of those for the next you know, half decade
plus in bringing Bridges in. But it's worth the conversation.
(21:10):
It's not gonna happen. Now here's my big take on it. Okay,
if you're really gonna do this, right, we kind of
joked around about it last night. If you're, if you're,
if you're now, if you're the Mets, and if you're
the Mets, Mets, if you're the Knicks, and you're saying, hey,
Jason Kidd, we have to decide if we want to
go talk to him. Think bigger, right, Jason Kid's a
good coach. Think bigger. Right, we joked around last night,
(21:31):
sad Hey, this is when Steve Kerr decides to come
coach and Nick and he brings Steph Curry with him.
Speaker 3 (21:34):
Right, No, but think bigger. I'm the Knicks. What am Mike?
What do I do? I say?
Speaker 1 (21:39):
Okay, Well, obviously Steve Kurr is not gonna leave. He's
got everything going there. He's gonna stay with Golden State
until he wants to step back and then you know,
and retire or run do something and then go back
to broadcasting. But you know what I do. And and
if if you're okay with thinking, you can get Jason
Kidd from the Mavericks. You call the heat for Eric Spolstra.
(21:59):
I was gonna say it go down those long tenured guys.
You call the heat for sport look the guy. Honestly,
he and Steve Kurr two best coaches in the NBA
outside of barn Stop. If you say Doc Rivers name
one more time, Doc Rivers, don't don't stop stop. I
can I found out. I can have you sports talk
radio arrested. If you say something really put me in
(22:21):
radio jail. Yeah, radio jail. You'll be in radio jail.
Speaker 3 (22:24):
You can't. I can what's the name of the doc rivers? Absolutely?
Have you arrested? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (22:31):
But uh but if you're thinking I'm serious, If you
think so, go get Eric Spolster, right, because again the guy,
he and Steve Kerr the two best coaches in the NBA.
Speaker 3 (22:41):
Right.
Speaker 1 (22:41):
Eric Spolster has a resume you absolutely want. He is
still considered a younger head coach because he got the
gig when he's he's been there almost twenty years. But
look how successfully he look how successfully is in the
playoffs with teams that aren't any good spots. Has been
able to figure out teams with big egos and and
big contracts and that are disappointing, that overachieved, that underachieved.
(23:02):
There's nothing the guy can't do. So I say, okay,
Eric spolsterra is Miami set to win?
Speaker 3 (23:07):
No? Are they close to winning? No?
Speaker 1 (23:09):
Their era is. Who knows what's gonna happen the next
few years with Miami.
Speaker 3 (23:13):
Just Residne Tyler here, you got that going?
Speaker 1 (23:15):
Yeah, good luck him and his bucket hat. Yeah yeah,
good luck that. Thirty eight wins. That's great, thirty eight
wins and you'll sneak in into the seven to ten
round of the playoffs. If if you're really gonna go
big game hunting, you call Pat Riley and go, hey, Pat,
we got some stuff on you when you faxed in
your resignation in the mid nineties.
Speaker 3 (23:30):
So you're gonna let us talk to Spolstra.
Speaker 1 (23:31):
We're gonna let the wa whoa, whoa, look a man,
Pat doesn't watch him detective shows again, that's the kind
of thing.
Speaker 3 (23:38):
It's like, hey, I know what you get over. I
got stuff. Find it. It's a big bluff, right, it's
a big bluff.
Speaker 1 (23:43):
But that when you came over from the Rats squad,
we know what's going on.
Speaker 3 (23:46):
Man.
Speaker 1 (23:47):
I know they did that in Department QU on Netflix
where they just see it. We have some stuff on,
we have some stuff on you. You know. I like
about Department Q. They say urinal urinal, and I'm like,
oh my god, it's pretty fo favorite part is that
an urino because they have it's a detective show and
they have their office in the basement of the where
they had like showers and their urinals and toilets.
Speaker 3 (24:08):
And people come down and they say, is that an uranal?
And that's how they say it. Not a urine. All
is that a urinal.
Speaker 1 (24:13):
I'm like, oh my god, I didn't know you can
say the word like that. That's fantastic. Now you'll never
stop using the word. No, I'm gonna say I like
that all the time. Yeah, but you say, okay, hey,
Spolster knows I'm not close to winning. I'm not close
to getting my next big NBA superstar player. Jimmy Butler
is gone, and now you know, how are we going
to rebuild? Are we going to convince someone to come
here and take let and and take a lot of money.
(24:35):
How are we gonna build? The Knicks are ready and
I want to go win again. It's been a while
since I won. And I know again I don't pat
Riley sure as hell doesn't want to do the Knicks
any favors. But if you're gonna call Dallas, why not
call them by Miami heat? Why not call because this,
I think is a great strategy for the Knicks because
you can say, hey, we want to go biggest of
big game, honey. Because you get told no by the teams,
(24:58):
that's okay, that's that's not that's not Hey, the Knicks
look bad because hey, you get permission to talk to Spolster,
and he says, no, you perished to talk to Jason Kidney.
He says, no, go to those big teams, because it
would be Hey, we're not gonna allow you permission. It's
not gonna happen. And clearly there's ways to make it happen.
There's trains that could happen. There's a coaching I really
would like to go. I'd like this opportunity, pat Riley
want to do the nixt any favors. But if you're gonna,
(25:18):
if you're gonna do this, don't limit yourself. Go for
the brass ring. Go to the top. Nick, call Miami
and say we want Eric Spolstra and and and figure
out a way to make it happen. Like you, if
you're gonna go down this one, go big man, Go
as big as absolutely large as you can.
Speaker 3 (25:35):
Now based on my quick googling, he's in year two
of an eight year extension. Yeah, we'll pay all the money.
But then he has dealt with pat Riley.
Speaker 1 (25:46):
To your point of all these years, I don't know
that you gotta go full Hey, we know what we
know about you within and that's a whole other piece
to it. But if he's been able to work alongside
pat Riley and make things work.
Speaker 3 (25:59):
He can put up Dolan.
Speaker 1 (26:00):
I mean that's a walk in the park, right, I
mean because he'll be an absentee owner for a ton
of it. You look at dealing with Leon Rose and
you've got a roster that thought it was assembled. Well
maybe it was, maybe it wasn't. We'll never know because
Tom Thibodeau didn't use it. So you have that giant
question mark hanging over where you're at as a franchise. Again,
(26:24):
compensation is one thing, but the trade compensation is more difficult.
Speaker 3 (26:28):
You're in conference, does that matter?
Speaker 1 (26:31):
Maybe a little bit angled to that, But yeah, if
you're gonna make calls outwardly to go and try to
poach somebody, yeah, go big game hunting, whether it's the
collegiate level or the pro level. You got your eye
on a particular assistant.
Speaker 3 (26:48):
Same thing.
Speaker 1 (26:49):
I mean, we've been joking about longest tenure because Billy
Donovan's now third after Tom Thibodeau's dismissal. He's third in
Chicago behind Kerr and Spostra. Yeah, just show you you
out topsy Turvy and the coaching world is, and that
he's still the memory remains like all these other coaches
of the year have been fired and moved on, maybe
(27:10):
be moved on from by a second team in that
that timing. But sure I like it, you know, and
you're you're only partially speaking as a as a knicks
honk there No, because we know what I could say, Hey,
how about uh Spolstra and uh, we'll send you Karl
Anthony Towns. How about that? Hey, you gotta get a
star players, right, you gotta start play. Look at me,
I'm making I'm making things out.
Speaker 3 (27:31):
You just want to get rid of this happen.
Speaker 1 (27:34):
You're just still wishing you had the timestone. I got
to get a turned back for that trade, and Hartenstein
would come back, and Divigenzo would come back, and Julius
Randa would come back, and Obi Toppin would come back
and Doc Rivers.
Speaker 3 (27:49):
Stop no, stop, I can have you arrested now.
Speaker 1 (27:52):
I think he went further back at the timeline than
I did. The security guard outside, I can have him
come in and take you out in handcuffs. I mean now,
it's those plasts can cut off. So you're saying I
would go missing with the Mets offense. Yeah, yeah, apparently yeah,
that's exactly what's going on. But you know, think big, right,
don't don't think small. Think big, and not that Jason
Kidd is small. But if this is I mean, you
(28:12):
ll go, well he is. He is not as taller
than you. He is, but not by much. I mean
he's six 's one, yeah, but I mean, you know, okay,
so he's three. It really doesn't take a whole lot
to be taller than the lot of us. I mean,
the only thing you guys have in common is no hair.
Speaker 3 (28:25):
There was uh well, neither of us. Neither us is
coaching right now. Were you ever part of something called
Triple j What do you mean he's not coaching.
Speaker 1 (28:36):
Listen, the Mavericks aren't playing, he's not coaching, but he's
still their coach.
Speaker 3 (28:40):
He's always coaching.
Speaker 5 (28:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (28:41):
Yeah, if you're a coach, you're always coaching.
Speaker 1 (28:43):
Hey, you know what, you could have buttered that bread
a little more efficiently, but go call the heat. So
I'm putting that out in the universe, and I'm taking
the doc rivers out. I'm putting that in and taking
doc rivers out. I'm taking that out. Is not the
hokey pokey aside. No, I can take it off.
Speaker 3 (28:58):
This, take that out, no, take it out.
Speaker 1 (29:00):
Looks so long as he's here, Doc Rivers is like
the sort of damn A. Frostburg's going to radio jail
for suggesting Doc Rivers. Does that mean they would does
that mean he gets a vacation? I'm authorizing this. Any
team would call the Bucks and say, hey, we'd like permission. Yes, okay,
oh really yes, go ahead, but we could work out it.
Speaker 3 (29:22):
No, no, no, go just talk. Just go ahead and
talk to him. Just go talk to him, Go talk
to him, Go talk to him.
Speaker 1 (29:26):
That's what they should instead of that ridiculous what what
they say a couple of weeks ago?
Speaker 3 (29:30):
Oh, they're hoping that Doc Rivers.
Speaker 1 (29:31):
His influence is the thing, you know, watching what's on
the what's what's on the television, you know, watching the games.
I'm like Kathy Bates in Misery. Don't you all have amnesia?
He didn't get out of the car. What don't you
all insane? Don't you watch how bad your team is?
Speaker 3 (29:46):
Less? But don't you want to watch?
Speaker 4 (29:49):
Like?
Speaker 1 (29:49):
Can we make that a pay per view of it?
I pay money for that. I'm gonna pay money for
Ozzie's last concert. You know what and give me an
add on that I can watch Doc trying to convince
Johann has to stay.
Speaker 3 (30:00):
Exit out bout of Fresca, exit swallowing down. The Jason

No one turns bases loaded and nobody outs into no
runs like the Mets to their next hit with a
runner in scoring position will be there first with a
runner and scoring position since the twenty fifteen season when
they went to the World three.
Speaker 3 (32:39):

Speaker 3 (35:24):
Kennedy which.
Speaker 1 (35:25):
Wow but like we said, earlier LIKE i, said at
every level of, Softball i've seen. It no matter how
good of a pitcher you, are when you can take
that many at bats off, her especially three days in a,
row you're gonna solve. Her it's gonna. Happen familiarity brings.
Contempt it also brings the ability to force a picture
out of a game very. Fast how often do we
(35:45):
see that in Any walklet's like we watch in series,
right a lot of advantages get taken away based on
seeing the different wrinkles and point.
Speaker 3 (35:55):
Counterpoint and here can't get past the first.
Speaker 1 (35:58):
Five runs in the first in and you know what
she's gonna throw you doing film, work you're knowing your. Tendencies,
YEAH i get. It she's that. Good you of course
you want to put her, out especially gave her a
million dollars today we're gonna put but three days in a,
row it's gonna. Happen she had thrown six hundred and
eighty six consecutive pitches dating back to the start of
The Super.
Speaker 3 (36:16):
Region.
Speaker 1 (36:17):
YEAH i, mean look in, softball you can do, that
like you can you can go like you. Don't you
don't lose a lot as far off your off your
velocity because you get do because it's a different motion
and you, know when you're throwing, underhand it's not the
same thing as a major league. Pitcher it's it's it's
completely different, obviously but you don't lose that as much
as it's more of the familiarity knowing where your pitches,
are knowing where the locations, are knowing Where it's like,
(36:38):
eventually if you go if you go into a batting, cage,
right And i've done this, before like go into a
batting cage and hit curveballs, only, right that's all like
the curveball only bat in. Cage, eventually after like the
first fifteen or twenty THAT i weigh, At i'll start
making contact with. Them but that's just Because i've just
seen fifteen in a, Row like i' may hey the.
Speaker 3 (36:55):
First two days and you know what the next one.
Speaker 1 (36:58):
Is she might be, curveball she might be untouchable unless
you're making the bad mistake Of kelly leaking it and
not throwing the intentional walk pitch where it should.
Speaker 3 (37:06):
Be, uh you know that's a you know that's a.
Speaker 1 (37:09):
Thing but obviously you KNOW i mean and so now
this is the first time they got. It that's just
the way it, goes and sull.
Speaker 3 (37:15):
FORTH i appreciate this line in the right.
Speaker 1 (37:17):
Up not even the support from Former Texas tech football
Star Patrick mahomes and his wife could get them over the.
Speaker 3 (37:24):
Time i'm, Gonna i'm, Gonna i'm gonna throw some. Pitches
i'm gonna i'mna throw overhand a little. Bit it's gonna
be hard And i'm gonna throw. It So i'll just wear.
It just wear My Texas. Tech you're still have. It
it's gonna be. Good just watch me AND i own.
Money Lookam. Horns all.
Speaker 1 (37:38):
Right they'd lost To oklahoma two of the last three
seasons before taking the title this.
Speaker 3 (37:43):

Speaker 3 (38:47):
Five, yeah like eight. Million the other Thing i'm sick of.
Speaker 1 (38:49):
NOW i am done with The pacers wearing this disrespect
like a, shield, right you, know Watching halliburton last night
On Scott Van peltchow and God venpelt because he had
him on the, show felt the need to, say, Hey i'm.

yeah not everybody would say that in the industry at.
All this, okay you know, What stop for a. Second, okay,
STOP i. Understand and this is not BECAUSE i hate The,
(39:12):
pacers even THOUGH i. Do it's not gonna hate The.
Pacers this IS i get whatever you need behind closed
doors to motivate. Yourself go, ahead, Man i'm all for
whatever you, need whatever's working for you to. Win go,
ahead feed off. That but don't sit here and come
out and, say, oh we're being. Disrespected, no it's just
not enough people are picking you to win around in
the playoffs than you would. Expect, okay first, round nobody, cared,
(39:35):
right second, round everybody picked The calves because The caves
are won sixty three. Games they were the best team
in The. East oh but we're being Disrespect, no you're
not being. Disrespected they're picking the team they thought was. Better,
oh The, knicks and The knicks are more. Popular they
were the better team than you in the regular. Season
of course people are gonna pick The. Knicks The thunder
were better than you and the regular. Season of course
people are gonna pick The. Thunder this is not a.
(39:55):
Distance it's not like people are, Saying, oh The pacers
don't belong. HERE i don't know how they got. Here
you know they're cheating. Somehow this is just no, teams
you're playing against our, favorite so more teams are gonna pick.
Them stop with this disrespect and the media is disrespecting.
You it's not, happening, Right it's not disrespect when someone
simply is picking another team to win a game or a.
Speaker 3 (40:16):
Series but The pacers.
Speaker 1 (40:18):
Want to wear this badge, like, oh we have been
wronged in the eyes of people.
Speaker 3 (40:21):
Everywhere, no no one's wronging.
Speaker 1 (40:23):
You, yeah but that gets everybody to play a little bit.
Better from the overrated comment of thirteen voters out of
the ninety that, submitted which is twenty percent of the,
league you know all that fuzzy, math whatever's gonna, motivate
you personally ride it, out and if you end up
losing to the, thunder you gave it your best shot
(40:44):
as a. Motivator you'll need something for next. Year i've
done those. Three i'm done with this. Week the apology
is just, silly, though come, On jason And Mike fox

Overtime but you know, what that's the thing when you're
when you have the pucket that at that point right
you got aim for the water. BOTTLE i got aim
for the. Water i'd be the greatest hockey coach in
history BECAUSE i would just tell people things that history
would be. Great i'd be great because, again my gift
(41:28):
in hockey IS i saw the. GAME i saw stuff
happen Before Scotty bowman got nothing on, you BUT i
saw how it would. HAPPEN i saw how it would.
Happen that's WHAT i would. Do, yeah history right. Now

Speaker 1 (41:45):
That, YEAH i, mean you know who the mascots are
The Panthers.
Speaker 3 (41:50):

Entertaining game two of The Stanley Cup final that's gonna
wind up going to. OVERTIME i, mean, look this is
why you watch, sports, RIGHT i get. That, oh It's
(42:49):

Speaker 1 (43:01):
It, okay but you, missed you miss hockey and basketball
being played at such an incredibly high level now and
it is now Official Florida edmonton going to overtime After
perry's goal looks like a deflection in front with seventeen seconds.
Left so, now As Dan patrick would, say we go
to over? Time is that what he said all the
(43:22):
time on? Highlights he would, Say, Okay, JASON i think you're.
Wrong we go To, no we are going. Overtime, No
perry's on The. Ducks he, was, yes a long time.
Ago here's how long time. AGO i remember Interviewing Corey
perry after they won The cup with The. Ducks what
like ON, espn WHAT i. Yeah, YEAH i got to
explained to. MILLENNIALS i explained to The Anaheimighty ducks are. Millennials,
(43:45):
okay it's a movie that's very popular in the early.
Nineties and then there was an expansion team in THE.
Nhl they Had Paul korea And Tamo. Solani then they
won The cup and there you. Go It's Silaniemi salanie
roll with. Cheese, Right, NO I I i'm familiar with
The italian. Meat you get a nice shark heuterie plate, going,
(44:08):
yeah get some pickles and some peppers up on.
Speaker 3 (44:10):
There i'm familiar with. It all From. Korea, no Just Paul. Korea,
no he's From. Korea, no he's his name Is.
Speaker 1 (44:16):
Paul don't Forget goldberg At goldberg To, goldberg was he a, Wrestler, Yeah.
Goldberg and don't Forget Charlie, banks like learn The Triple.
Dck he's pretty. Good, Wait, MIKE i Thought goldberg was a.
Wrestler he's he's got one more match in.
Speaker 3 (44:27):
Him, Okay.
Speaker 1 (44:30):
And who was who is a kid with a slap
shot that they gott into two out of every?
Speaker 3 (44:33):
Five? Right who? Is what was the name of that?
Kid you're asking the wrong.
Speaker 1 (44:36):
GUY i have not revisited that film series in a long.
Speaker 3 (44:40):
Time blind V, oh, Sure Gordon, Bombay, oh.
Speaker 1 (44:43):
Let's get some More Emilio steve into the NEXT i
did love how with half a minute, left and we're
going to get a face off after the icing call
that you start getting all the face off stats to
start twenty. Six fulton, reed very, Good frost bur of
every five to out of every, five all, right you're right.
Speaker 3 (45:02):
Five well there you.
Speaker 1 (45:03):
Go it work every. Time, Uh, so free. Hockey let's
go one of the big. Uh and it wasn't that
big a. DEAL i didn't think it was that big
a deal. Yesterday but, apparently, hey you know when we're
starving FOR nfl news That Aaron rodgers deal with The
steelers is only for one, year, right like this was
verse reported and you saw it for me And.
Speaker 3 (45:23):
Rapaport.
Speaker 1 (45:24):
Uh and potentially we had heard today that Maybe rogers
was looking for a two year deal in the. Offseason
and you, know you don't know why The steelers would say,
no because if they really obviously they painted themselves into a.
Corner not that you, know he's great or, anything but all,
right they, did so why would that? Happen so maybe
this looks like That rogers only wants to play one,
year all, Right SO i could see THAT i could
(45:46):
see that he, might you, know this might be it
the final goal round for him as A.
Speaker 3 (45:49):
Steeler so how's it gonna?
Speaker 1 (45:51):
Go?
Speaker 2 (45:51):
Right?
Speaker 1 (45:51):
That this is where right we had THE Nba finals last,
Night rogers as signs going good to report to The
steelers next? Week how is things going to?
Speaker 3 (45:58):
Go?
Speaker 1 (45:58):
Right? Now the first Thing i'm gonna say is this
is That rogers is A Tim tebow story where the
impact overall Of Aaron, rodgers what we talk about and
his impact on THE nfl off the, field meaning what
is talked about and discussed is gonna be greater than
(46:19):
his impact on the, field because that was always ing
With tebo once he got to THE. Nfl the impact Of,
tebow what we talked about off the, field how popular he,
was that was way different from what he actually did
on the. Field, now he did have that one throwing
that touchdown pass That Damarrius thomas just kept. Running, uh
that was that Was Tim. Tebow, Right we talked way to.
(46:42):
Him we were not nearly a proportional to what his
impact on the field, Was, Right Tim tebow was a
celebrity and we talked about and what we saw on the.
Field that's gonna be the first thing the talk. About
Aaron rodgers is going to end up much more of
an impact than what we see on the field from,
him Because i'll tell you exactly how the season is
gonna go for. RIGHT i MENTIONED i Mentioned Tim. Tebow
(47:02):
his season is gonna go Like Russell. Wilson, Okay he's
gonna finally find a way to get it again being
away from the, team gonna familiarize himself with the. Players
whole new system that is not Really Aaron rodgers. Friendly,
Right that's the one thing we know that this is
not a great, fit, right The Arthur smith, system this
is not a great. Fit he does not do What
Aaron rodgers does. Well Mike tomlin is not the best
(47:24):
head coach to bring in a gun slinger Like Aaron
rodgers who's gonna spray the ball all over the. Field
so it's going to be a very rough. Fit will
he have his, Moments, Yes rogers will have his. Moments
he will because he's Still Aaron, rodgers and they'll be
once in a while where you see that gleam and go.
Speaker 3 (47:39):
Man that's the first Ballot hall Of.
Speaker 1 (47:41):
Famer that's a top five quarterback all, time maybe the
second best Quarterback i've seen the last thirty. YEARS i
see a glimmer of. That he is gonna have his,
moments but, overall you saw it last year with The.
Speaker 3 (47:52):
Jets it's not.
Speaker 1 (47:53):
Enough all, Right i'm willing to give a little bit
of the benefit of the doubt for him health, wise
because clearly beginning of last year he still wasn't. Healthy
he didn't really look like he was healthy ish until
the middle to late part of the, season but it
still didn't. Matter he still threw off his back foot
way too. Much he didn't have the arm strength he.
Did he's had way better weapons with The, jets and
(48:14):
he's gonna have here with The. Steelers right he Had Garrett,
Wilson DeVante, Adams Breeze hall with The. Jets now it's
gonna be, Okay, well dj Metcalf and and uh Uh
swan and stalwarth and And harris And blyer and.
Speaker 3 (48:27):
All he's got.
Speaker 1 (48:28):
Bigger can he bring back all those other wide receivers
that came through for For Mike tomlin so until they.
Didn't he'll rally a little, bit and he'll have some
moments once in a, while but in the end he's
gonna have a bad run Like Russell wilson, did and
The steelers are gonna EITHER i had to decide whether
we turn to somebody else or we know that we
(48:48):
ride out this season and and we move on in the. Offseason,
right we either turn To Mason rudolph or we go
To Will howard if it looks, like, hey we want
the rookie to give us a, spark and he's picking
up THE nfl quicker than we. Thought but that's how it's.
Gonna it will end With Aaron rodgers and a debate
in the late season by The steelers to are we
gonna stick with him the rest of the way or
(49:09):
do we know that it's just not working and we
cut mait and we go to somebody, else which would
be an embarrassing way for the season and For Aaron.
Rodgers but that's how it's gonna be Very it's gonna
it's gonna be Very Russell wilson.
Speaker 3 (49:20):
Esque over the course of the, year he'll have his,
moments but.
Speaker 1 (49:22):
In one you're gonna see overall and maybe week one
he might have his moment's week one because it's The,
jets but, overall by the time we get to The
packers rematch in week, eight week, nine, yeah good, luck
good luck staying, upright good luck being someone who is
still moving the ball down the. Field he's gonna hit
Those Russell wilson's kids and blieve, me it's gonna Be.
Boy Is Aaron rodgers really gonna finish his career on
(49:43):
the bench In pittsburgh or are they just gonna stick
with him to give him away for him to go
out before he retires in the offseason and moves. On
that's how it's gonna go For. Rodgers, YEAH i was
really surprised there wasn't an option on, there whether it
be the team or the, player just so you had that,
bridge because otherwise all you're doing is kicking your. Quarterback
the proverbial can down the road another year right in
the Post Ben roethlisberger era of bringing guys in and going,
(50:07):
well maybe there's an opportunity and maybe this will be the.
Guy second chances or some of the rookies that they've.
Drafted none of it's played. Out they're over under total
sat at eight and a half while The rogers signing
was already baked, in so anybody that was expecting suddenly
there to be big, Movement, no the assumption was he
(50:28):
was showing in the only thing that would have happened
is it would have.
Speaker 3 (50:31):
Gone down if he didn't. Arrive and even by, then
what was it gonna go?
Speaker 1 (50:34):
Down a game like The steelers are a middling team
and maybe he, overachieves out, performs what is it a
minus one? Twenty so the implied ards are that you
hit the eight and a half is fifty four percent?
Right you're in a division that's. Difficult cleveland has a good.
Roster just questions AT Qb cincinnati And. Baltimore while we
(50:58):
assume they're better and And, CINCINNATI i think the expectation
is they don't give away a couple of games early
in the season like they have in years past that
In september they actually come out.
Speaker 3 (51:09):
Slinging so For Aaron.
Speaker 1 (51:11):
Rodgers, look he got better as the season went, on
and you can decide how much you want to buy
into top. Ten this top ten that quarterbacking and just
slinging at how much is empty calories and? STATS i
just don't think on the field he moves the needle, anymore,
right you, know it's almost Like Aaron rodgers is sort
of Like Kevin, durant But Kevin durant's playing a little
(51:32):
higher level where, Yeah Kevin durant still gets his stats
and as, Numbers but what do we talk about earlier?
Week like he hasn't led anybody anywhere in six. Years
he hasn't made a team a, playoff who made them?
Better made them AN nba championship contender since twenty, nineteen, Right,
like he hasn't done.
Speaker 3 (51:46):
That That's Aaron.
Speaker 1 (51:47):
Rodgers, yeah he had some stats last year AT, yeh
but the season was. Over it doesn't. Matter like his
stats were in games where they're against other teams had
nothing to play. For The jets had nothing to play.
For they just decided to let him throw the footing.
Around he's almost Like katie, where, yeah you're gonna see some,
numbers but he's not gonna turn you into an offensive.
Team that's why the impact of him off the field
(52:09):
and how we talk about him in the conversation that
drives television and radio.
Speaker 3 (52:13):
Is going to be bigger than the impact on the.
Speaker 1 (52:15):
Field, well but that's, it, right how many when you
go To Kevin. Durant it became all about the. Squad
how many games do those guys actually play? Together and
eighty two games is a bleeping long. Season so to
have impact is, like CAN i put him in a
box Until march and the other guys can actually carry
things for a while and then he's playing meaningful. Basketball,
no it's not the way it works, here at least
(52:37):
for seventeen. Games even going out with your jets in game,
one every game has some juice to. It i'm gonna
play In dublin all of these.
Speaker 3 (52:46):
Things attention is going to be.
Speaker 1 (52:48):
There but the impact on the, Field oh that's not. Good,
smun what do you? Got you GOT dk metcalf And Robert?
Woods good luck, ageless good Luck Robert, woods good luck Friar.
Speaker 3 (52:57):
Mouth and maybe maybe they can Bring john New. Smith
is he showing?
Speaker 1 (53:01):
Up? Uh, well let's, see because, remember see what the
change Because Aaron rodgers is not running that. Offense, No,
No Arthur smith's offense is the fact that he's. There
it doesn't. Matter he's running his own. Offense once he shows.
Speaker 3 (53:16):
UP i Saw Donald driver playing couch at the, Parks
now that would be.
Speaker 1 (53:20):
Fun Robert brooks was there. Too sure you know what
Else katie And rodgers have in? Common what's that linguine legs.
Speaker 3 (53:28):
Don't do not skip leg? Day BUT i Mean durant's
had a.
Speaker 1 (53:31):
Night wait wait wait, Wait, lingen of course you would
good pasta. Face you gotta start talking about rattitude while
we're at, it, dude this Since VICTOR.
Speaker 3 (53:41):
E ratt is one of the would literally he's a
pasta With Aaron. Rodgers oh no style now the last
couple of. Years, yeah but now now he's not like
now that he's not your.
Speaker 1 (53:51):

Speaker 3 (53:52):
Sucks now it's justin.
Speaker 7 (53:53):
Fields you would Super bowl last, year, Dude but you,
see you know how he works with these, Guys Sam,
Donald he was starting to, build he was starting to
build pasta bust like he was part of A seinfeld.
Speaker 1 (54:03):
Episode and then as soon as that guy went, gone
he covered him with sauce and ate. Him, Dude, ISAIAH
i can turn the page on you in a, second.
Speaker 3 (54:11):
MAN i MEAN i don't need that.
Speaker 1 (54:12):
Much in a. SECOND i could love, you love, you love.
You one day you're the bet and the next, day wake, up.
