This is the best of The Jason Smith Show with
Mike Harmon on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
Greetings, Welcome inside, Happy Monday, The Jason Smith Show with
my base.

Speaker 3 (00:36):
Friend Mike Harmon. Let's go.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
For over forty years, tire Rack's been helping customers find
the right tires for how what, where they drive. Shipped
fast and free, backed by free Road, has a protection
with convenient installation options like mobile tire installation. Tirerac dot
Com is the way tire buying should be. Well, we
got big stuff out of the NBA today. One team
may have found their head coach. But right now, Game

(01:01):
three of the Stanley Cup Final and going according to
script as we told you Friday night. Look, this is
this has been an incredible first couple of games. The
Stanley Cup Final we said it on Friday, how do
you get past this emotionally? If you're the Oilers, you
come back and you tie this series, you tie the game,
and the final minute of regulation and it double overtime,

(01:21):
Brad Marshan comes in and just tears your heart out. Now,
the Panthers coming home with that kind of momentum, well
that might be it. As much as there's a great
series all this, that might be it for the Oilers
because I don't know how you come back mentally from this,
and so far, that's exactly what we have seen. The
Panthers dominant Oh Redmonton for one of a minute to
go in the second period.

Speaker 4 (01:40):
Over under six and a half goals in this one,
because well we know the play is going to open up.
We've had a couple of breakaway opportunities for the Panthers.
They've laid out those really cool rats towels this morning.
I mean, that was that was really a nice play.
A lot of rots in Florida, Mike, There's no question
about it.

Speaker 3 (01:56):
Yeah, but wait, you know, but here's the thing though,
Like like.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
The I'm talking the ones that rat people out, Oh okay,
and there are a lot of them on Staten Island
in places where no one knows because you know that's
where I lived.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
Yup it down to Florida and had them fed to
the lions.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
Statn Island is the highest highest place on the East
Coast as far as uh uh you know, feet above
sea level, which means there's lots of places to bury people.

Speaker 3 (02:19):
So it's kind of it's got of what I learned
growing up. We're right here, We're on the highest point
of the east.

Speaker 4 (02:22):
What great does that come in? Is that one of
those filler things at the end of the year at school,
it's like, here's some factoids you need to know how
you doing.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
I'm I'm mister, I'm mister soprano. Welcome to kindergarten. First
thing I'm gonna tell you. Never rat on your friends.
That's the number one rule.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
What aren't we gonna learn about? Reading?

Speaker 1 (02:40):
Reading and writing are coming soon? Never rat on your friends, right,
let's say it.

Speaker 3 (02:44):
Say it.

Speaker 1 (02:44):
We're gonna say it until you guys know it coming
out of the out of your eyeballs ready. Never rat
on your friends? Good, okay. Number two? Always keep your
mouth shut right, we notice, right, okay, keep your mouth
shut right.

Speaker 3 (02:55):
We don't around.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
Okay, very good. Let's repeat after me with that. Always
keep your mouth shut, never ride on your friends. Isn't
that from Goodfelt? You'll get out right now. I will
bury you someplace no one's going to ever find you.

Speaker 5 (03:06):
Well.

Speaker 4 (03:07):
The third would be to claim you're along the lines
of shoeless Joe Jackson. You don't know how to write
when they say you got to write that statement out?

Speaker 1 (03:16):
Yeah, yeah, so he got What does that mean when
we that's all I got?

Speaker 3 (03:20):
We went, uh, I.

Speaker 1 (03:24):
When we were looking at elementary schools for so I'm
going back aways now I'm going back like twelve years
looking for element na twelve yeah, about twelve years. So
I'm looking for elementary schools. And we saw this one
school that we kind of liked.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
We're like, okay, we're go looking.

Speaker 1 (03:36):
We're looking around, and we go in and we get
to go and talk to one of the teachers and
a really nice guy. Everybody liked him. And he you know,
he's you know, he's got all the stuff. He's like
a surfer. He had like, you know, pictures of he's
a older guy, and he had pictures of surfing, you know,
surfboards up in his uh uh in his room, really
laid back. I kind of like the guy. And then
he says, you know, English is my special team. We
do a lot of this, a lot of rioting on this.

(03:57):
Oh that's great, that's great, he is.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
You know, we do too. He goes, I'm not really
good at it. Ha, but we do it. And I
left and I just wait and.

Speaker 1 (04:04):
I just wait, and I said, I just said, wait,
you're not good at kindergarten math. And I said it
like in a half joking tone, but half says, dude,
I'm not asking you to teach calculus, like you're not
good at teaching kindergarten math. And there was the X
right over that guy's name in that school. Where was
the X right there? Okay, if you have to kindergarten math,

(04:26):
I'm not very good at it. How could you struggle teaching?

Speaker 3 (04:29):
Come on?

Speaker 5 (04:29):
Man?

Speaker 4 (04:29):
But at least he put it out there right away.
How pissed would you a bit if you'd gone to
this school? And then all of a sudden you're realizing,
wait a minute, my daughter's teaching the class.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
How's math? What's math? Math class? Well, you don't do math?
What do you mean we don't do it don't believe
in What do you mean you don't believe it's an
extra recess period instead?

Speaker 3 (04:48):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (04:48):
Oh great, great, great, Well kay, I still can't believe.
I still can see the guy sitting going, you know
how you do math? I'm not very good at it.
I'm like, oh, wow, dude, you're telling me you're not good.

Speaker 4 (04:58):
I can't do kidd but I am coloring inside the
lines at a fifth grade level.

Speaker 1 (05:02):
No, no, I mean, really, can you get to the
number five? I mean, I don't think you do anything
more than five when you start teaching kindergarten math. I
think that's a big number.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
Oh okay, that's it. You're done at some next level stuff.

Speaker 4 (05:13):
That's a very thorough and well I mean expeditious way
to weed people out.

Speaker 3 (05:18):
There's no question about that. So, uh, we'll have more
kindergarten math throughout this.

Speaker 4 (05:23):
No, that's good because you you're gonna have to rack
up a lot of numbers here in this Dodgers padres.

Speaker 3 (05:28):
Oh yeah, yeah, what was the over under?

Speaker 1 (05:30):
I know, but it's already Dodgers podres is to two
bottom of the first inning. Like, this is bigger than
kindergarten math. There there'll be more runs in this team
than you get the numbers you get to.

Speaker 3 (05:41):
First. Yeah, I know this year, right, it's like, hey, yeah,
big second week in June, big series.

Speaker 4 (05:46):
All of a sudden, they're gonna play ten straight games
against the division opponents.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
Right now, teams are battling to be the second best
team in the National League. Like this is a really
big series. I mean this in the second best team
in the National League is a big deal. Man, Like, hey,
you means you're almost You're right below the fan You're
right below the best. Oh, that's the best team in
the National League. That's the best team of the now.

Speaker 4 (06:11):
He was trying to play the tell me you're a
Mets fan without telling me you're a Mets fan.

Speaker 3 (06:15):
You know how you do that much. I'm just celebrating June.

Speaker 4 (06:17):
That is well, there is that over under was eight
on this one. So we're halfway home already in the first.

Speaker 3 (06:22):
I'm just saying this.

Speaker 1 (06:22):
You know, we're going by what's going on right now,
and this is what's happening.

Speaker 3 (06:26):
I mean, the show is tonight.

Speaker 4 (06:27):
I mean that is uh and right now for all
of our affiliates nationwide and the global iHeart Radio application.

Speaker 3 (06:36):
Yeah, it's it's right now.

Speaker 4 (06:37):
And yes, the Mets are are That is a nice
looking Uh it's like it's ever been worn Mets hat.

Speaker 3 (06:43):
Oh no, this well, this because this is my special one.
I don't wear this very often.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
This is my London twenty twenty four because this is
the series that turned things around for the Mets last year.
So you're trying it's my special oojo going off day hat.
It's my off day hat, like a hey off day. Hey,
I'm playing big right now. You know, everything is good,
best record of the National League. Like where my special
my Mets?

Speaker 3 (07:04):
Yeah, well he's living in the past. You know what.
I like winners, that's my thing. I like winners. I
want winners. Fan and a Jets fan.

Speaker 1 (07:12):
Well okay, well let's let's just let's let's just okay,
you open the door.

Speaker 3 (07:16):
Oh no, that's good. Look.

Speaker 4 (07:17):
But what means that I'm coming through and I got
a baseball bat, and he's got a club.

Speaker 3 (07:21):
And who knows what Mary's carrying? I don't know.

Speaker 5 (07:24):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (07:24):
Well, here's where.

Speaker 1 (07:25):
I'm going to start the show, the little bit of
a left turn for you, and I'm gonna say, boy,
I was wrong, was wrong? At seven o eight already
West Coast. I'm always okay saying I'm wrong. I'm always
okay saying when I'm wrong.

Speaker 3 (07:40):
He says a lot of things are going to be wrong.

Speaker 5 (07:41):
A lot.

Speaker 1 (07:42):
It doesn't happen that often. My my track record of
predicting the future is really good. Like I mean, like
greatest in Vegas. Like I could go and be like
the guy running away and why have we done that?
Because I like doing this better. I gotta dress up
in suits and have to do that for like, yeah, yeah,
that's the thing I got. Yeah, I mean, oh, the
guy in the sweatpants. Mean, that guy in the sweatpants

(08:03):
breaks the future. But I get it.

Speaker 4 (08:05):
It doesn't matter in the sweatpants what you want. But
if you actually could make this happen, you'd literally have
to do it for like a month, and then you
never have to be seen again. You could be on
an island, you know, hanging out by Clooney.

Speaker 3 (08:17):
Yeah, no, that's true.

Speaker 1 (08:18):
I actually do have a cool guy in sweatpants story
that I'll tell later in the show. But it's not me.
It's somebody else, that's right. No, No, no, no, no,
cool guy, no, famous famous media star, famous guys.

Speaker 5 (08:30):
I got it.

Speaker 1 (08:32):
It could it could be good, gentlemen, But I was wrong.
None of that very often. But I was wrong because
I told you, boy, this Knicks coaching search is going
to last through the finals, into the beginning, maybe into
the draft, not in the beginning of free agency, because
teams want to know I wanted who I'm coming to
play for. So but they're gonna take you know, they're
gonna enjoy this little bit here. They're gonna enjoy being

(08:54):
the destination, being the big story. But after the news today,
the nixt half their Okay, we had heard the end
of last week, potentially Jason Kidd could be someone the
Knicks want to talk to about their head coaching job.
Friend of the show, Mark mark Stein had that story.
He's gonna join us tonight and you know, in a

(09:14):
couple hours of talk about it. Right, So that's a
big deal. Why, Hey, Jason Kidd, Jalen Brunson, Jason Kidd,
Jannis right, all of it. Jannas still loves Jason Kidd,
all this stuff. And Jason Kidd has had a really
successful coaching career in the NBA. One hey, he's made
it further than Tims has. Right that Tim's been coaching
nine years in the league. Hey, that would be something,
But are the Are the MAVs really gonna want to

(09:37):
lose somebody else big to the Knicks? Right after the
Knicks just basically walked in, picked up Jalen Brunson and just,
you know, kind of peeled out. It's like showing up
when you're hanging out watching a movie with your girlfriend
and this guy comes in and says, hey, you ready,
and she leaves and he peels out of your driveway,
and then you got to see the tire staying on
your driveway forever. And every time you walk outside, you go,
that's the guy that just drove off with my girlfriend.

(09:58):
That's just like the guy coming back to you for
your next girlfriend, saying, hey, you're ready. You're gonna let
him do it again? Like I said, there's not How
are the MAVs gonna do this? The only way right
and the only again I hate this say I told
you so, but this out predicting the future is I said?
The only way is if Jason Kidd somehow lets it
be known he is open to talking to the Knicks,
or there could be some kind of mutual interest. Well,

(10:19):
what was the mark Stein Report today, there is mutual
fascination slash interest between Jason Kidd and the Knicks.

Speaker 4 (10:29):
So Jason Gidd really miss Jalen Bronson. This is only
what it comes down to. Maybe he hates Cooper Flagg. Hey,
I don't want to coach Cooper Fleagg, but he was
talking about that kid from Duke because he can't say
his name yet even though they have the number one pick.

Speaker 3 (10:40):
It makes no sense. The dumbest thing the NBA million.

Speaker 1 (10:44):
You wouldn't be some you'd be stunned some of the
things the NBA and the NFL have that they they
really want.

Speaker 3 (10:49):
We really don't want you to talk to Hill. The
Hills they want to die.

Speaker 4 (10:52):
Patman going on broadcasting yelling at a guy because he
talked about state sales tax in Florida being an incentive
for players to go play down there.

Speaker 1 (11:02):
That's not a thing, dude. When When I When I when?
I'll just tell you this one quick story before I
get to the back, Chason Kidd, is that one time
we were at NFL Network when I was there and
we were doing some kind of some kind of draft preview,
fantasy draft preview show. We were talking about players and
where they would fit fantasy wise on certain teams. Right,
And we started talking and I forget who it was.

(11:23):
I forget the player we were talking about, but Bucky
Brooks is gonna be on the show. We're sitting here,
we're talking about who this player is at and then
all of a sudden, like I didn't know this, but
like Bucky and a couple people going, yeah, well, how
are we gonna say this? How are we gonna say this?
And I'm like, what we talk about? Well, I'll tee
it up and say this, you know this is and yeah,
I don't know that we could say that. And then

(11:43):
they decided to say we could say, you know, maybe
a certain and I'm just throwing this out there, maybe
a certain quarterback from southern California is going to be
that guy for this team. And I'm like, so we
can't say the guys and even though he's going into
the draft, all this like data there was. I can't
tell you some of the stories people would tell me
about NFL owners who would say, don't say these guys'
names before the draft. These are not just guys that

(12:05):
are sitting in college like they have two more years ago.
These are guys who are entering the draft that are
in the draft, well, and they can't say in the draft, right,
so it's not like we can't say his name.

Speaker 3 (12:14):
So like, hey, you.

Speaker 4 (12:15):
Shouldn't have said that guy was still available in the
fantasy draft.

Speaker 3 (12:18):
I might have been able to get him because we
can't say this quarterback's name.

Speaker 4 (12:22):
Like a lot of time, I know they had the
bet rule that you had to deal with the best
thing at.

Speaker 1 (12:27):
Least I kind of understood this, like we can't say
the guy's name. Really, he's not like so that that's
I mean, that's so that's that's that's.

Speaker 4 (12:34):
Where Jason Kidd has kind of been with in this. Yeah,
and like but as we talked about, right, Spolstra, that
got a lot of run. Thanks to all of you
for posting that and retweeting that.

Speaker 3 (12:43):
That was great. I still want Spolster.

Speaker 4 (12:44):
But but I mean between spol Kid, I mean, they're
all guys you have to ask permission for. But why
not shoot big Yeah? Right, you just fired a guy
after giving him an extension. Kids one year into an extension, so.

Speaker 1 (12:55):
Well, all bets are and the thing is now you
also know because Jason Kids not going to let it
be known he's interested unless he wants the gig. And
this is where if you're the mag you're gonna go. Man,
they're gonna do it to me again like the guy
in Top Gun. I want some butts. That's another fly by,
I want some butts. Right, he comes in, he coaches

(13:16):
the Mavericks, They trade Luca Right?

Speaker 3 (13:18):
Is he really up for that?

Speaker 6 (13:19):
Now?

Speaker 3 (13:20):
Am I up for whatever? This?

Speaker 1 (13:21):
This craziness is. Even though Cooper Flagg is coming, Am
I up for this? Because this was really bad? He
wouldn't signal he's okay with going unless he's ready to go.
And if you're the Mavericks, I get how you could say,
we don't want to give you permission, But do you
really want a guy coaching your team that you don't
that he doesn't want to be there? Of course not,
So you're gonna have to fi. They're gonna figure out

(13:42):
some kind of trade. It's not gonna be Karl Anthony
Towns for Jason Kidd, but there's gonna be some kind
of of maneuvering where the Knick's gonna have to give
stuff up to get him. But this doesn't happen unless
the Knicks get Jason Kidd. Jason Kidd doesn't put his
future coaching future with Dallas at stake unless he knows
I'm getting to the Kicks. The Knicks don't put this
out there and now this going on unless they know

(14:03):
they're getting Jason Kidd. This is not like I mean,
this is a big day. This tells me that the
Knicks coaching search is basically done and it's just gonna
be the Knicks and the MAVs haggling over whatever the
price is, the you know whatever, some kind of deal,
whatever it's gonna be, that's they're gonna haggle over. But
now after this happens, this doesn't get this far unless
it's going to happen. So Jason Kid's gonna be the

(14:24):
next head coach of then.

Speaker 4 (14:24):
Well, the beauty of it, and also it unravels and
solves some of those well heretofore unsolved mysteries in terms
of timing and who knew what and when. As to
the Luca donchen strade, we can always talk about the
Laker part and folks can deny what they knew, what
they didn't know. But from the Maverick side with Jason Kidd,
now it makes more and more sense that he had

(14:46):
no idea any of that was going down because he
took this stiff upper lip and we looked at the roster,
and I was intrigued by it. Like, obviously a lot
of risk in terms of age, health and everything else
when you talk about Kyle and Anthony Davis, and certainly
it bore out that way, But it was a squad
with Clay Thompson as well. They're like, all right, this

(15:09):
could be interesting, and then you win the lottery and
you get Cooper Flagg. But this still floats out. That
means you're still having I want the access to the
months of text messages and transcripts of phone calls of
still fighting that battle months later after Luca was traded away.
So yeah, it certainly lends itself to a all right,

(15:30):
we need we need to break up and peel out
of the driveway.

Speaker 1 (15:37):
Exit out about it, Fresca, Exit Swollen Dome, the Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harman.

Speaker 3 (15:42):
I'm telling you it did.

Speaker 1 (15:44):
You don't get to this level when a guy has
a job unless it's gonna happen. May take a little
bit to figure it out, but Jason Kidd next head
coach of the next It's happening. It's happening, written Jacob.

locking Forward. Jay, what's happening man?

Speaker 3 (17:35):
How are you?

Speaker 5 (17:37):
I'm doing well. Hope you are as well. And if
you catch me every day, pretty much every day, that's
pretty much noon Eastern and pretty much nine specifics. Oh
one of that where I'll be breaking down our favorite
plays of the day along with some other established handicappers.
And so far, so good with that. We've kind of

(17:57):
been crushing it.

Speaker 3 (17:58):
So can you add another couple of jobs? I feel
like you're slacking.

Speaker 5 (18:02):
Oh touching, I'm looking for Mark. Okay, I'm looking for Mark.

Speaker 3 (18:05):
That's Syracuse cheap man, Eyracuse.

Speaker 5 (18:07):
Bill just came in today that that alert from the
Burs's office. That's probably a beautiful thing. I was somehow,
I have myself convinced that was on the other side.

Speaker 3 (18:15):
Of July for it.

Speaker 5 (18:16):
But no, that was today. What are you?

Speaker 3 (18:18):
What are you class in ninety ninety six? Right?

Speaker 5 (18:21):
I am ninety six ninety six.

Speaker 1 (18:23):
So did the letter say, hey, congratulations alumni Jason outay, Hey,
by the way, we need some money.

Speaker 5 (18:29):
It doesn't anything. It's just say you get an alert
and it's just going to your mid slice and your
Versus account has been updated. And then you go in
there and you kind of squint and peak with one eye,
and then you look at it, and then you look
at the five twenty nine and what's left of it?
We'll say one of that?

Speaker 3 (18:47):
All right?

Speaker 1 (18:47):
So if you were betting now that he's here, Rogers
is in. He signed one year, thirteen million. Maybe he's engaged,
maybe he's married, maybe he's not. If I said to you,
how does this play out this season for the steel is,
what would you tell me?

Speaker 5 (19:03):
I mean, look, he's better than Mason Rudolph. He but
he's not good and he's got no allegiances there whatsoever.
And it's an arranged marriage that he delayed as long
as you possibly could. So I don't think any of

(19:23):
that bothes particularly well for them now that they are
an established team. This is not the joke ass check. Sorry. So, like,
I don't think it's going to undermine them the way
it did there. You know, Like this is very different
than him knowing that he had Salah under his thumb
from the Gidda up and doing everything he could to
undermine that guy and make that as messy as it

(19:44):
could be. I don't think he's got that sort of
malson is hard for Mike Tomlin, at least not yet.
It probably it probably accrues pretty quickly with him. But
so like, I don't know, like they're in the hunt
every year and it's a good defense, and like I

(20:07):
don't know, you know, everybody makes the playoffs now or
everybody's you know, pretty much in it unless you're the Jets,
you know, around around Christmas. So I think it'll feel
like a lot of Steelers seasons. I think Mike Tumblin's
going to be very accustomed to this. Like the last

(20:28):
three years of Ben Roethlisberger, it's a lot like this,
A bunch of passes into the slot, you know, five
to twelve yards downfield and a guy kind of patting
his stats at the end of his career, who every
once in a while wi on courk a few throws
to make you remember what was But guys, he does
not want to get hit anymore. He will throw the

(20:50):
ball into the ground in half a second rather than
risk anything to do anything of particular, you know, expertise,
what do they do every year? You know, I think
it just will be another Stealers season where they're right
around five hundred. You know, at some point in the season,

(21:12):
maybe they get three or four games up, and then
at some point in the season they'll be, you know,
right around five hundred, and they'll have something to play
for in the final two or three weeks, and that'll
be that they're not going to go anywhere in the playoffs.
Heat there's not going to be a Peyton Manning type
exclamation point towards the end of this guy's season. The

(21:33):
last one of those was his last MVP, which is
further and further in the real review. Maynor because it.

Speaker 4 (21:40):
Kind of feels like we're hitting the stage where we
do with the NBA the regular seasons all finding good
What are you doing in January and for Pittsburgh that
hasn't been a lot.

Speaker 3 (21:50):
Know, but it's still a.

Speaker 4 (21:51):
Lifetime contract for Mike Tomlin unless he decides to lead, right,
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (21:56):
This could bring the whole thing down. Now if this
goes worse than this, if this goes like it did
last year, where we're talking at week ten and it's like,
wait a minute, how could you know Garrett Wilson and
Briest Hall and all these guys have been better with
Zach Wilson than they are you know what I mean
with Anon Rodgers, Like if we hit Defcon five and

(22:16):
he's ripping people on McAfee and he's taken shots at
ownership and nobody, you know, the rest of the locker
room thinks he's a third and guys individually now are
losing money because of him because you know, they're not
being in position to make place and he's playing favorites
and whoever his lazard becomes, you know, that guy gets
like in the interpersonal politics spell out onto the field.

(22:40):
Like if that stuff happens, then I think my tom
has cooked because like Tomlin risked his reputation to put
his football operations on hold until the middle of June
for this guy. He basically had his offensive coordinators spinning
his wheels for months waiting for this guy to get
to town. And they bring in that calf, and you know,

(23:03):
most of the offseason, all the way up until mandatory
mini camp, he will have never spent any time around
the new quarterback. You know, like the whole thing is
pretty messy. Now again, I think we'll play decent enough football,
and they're well enough coached, and they have a defense,
and they have a great special teams and a great
kicker like and the Margins are swimming this league, so

(23:25):
all that probably keeps them afloat. But if it doesn't,
and if he checks out around Thanksgiving, you know, basically
says you could play somebody else. We saw them sick
of getting hurt and kind of starts inferring that on
his Buddy's TV show, then I think ownership is going
to have to look at like Tomlin and be like,
hey man, we told everybody that expectations were raised and

(23:46):
this had to be a different year, and now we
look like a joke. Now we look you know, this
must be what it feels like to wake up and
be Woody Johnson. Every day. I don't like it, you know,
so do I think he could torpedo? I think he could,
because there's no way you're gonna tell me. Omar Khan
goes into Tomlin's office as as coach. I just got
off the phone at his agents, and look, just give

(24:07):
me two or three more weeks, and I think I
can get him here by Eastern Hey, coach, I know
it's you know, good Friday, and I said, I thought
he'd be here, but but look, just give me another month,
you know what I mean. Pretend you're running a football
team in the interim, and I think I can get
the quarterback here, you know, by by Memorial Day. Oh hey, coach, Look,

(24:28):
I'm really really like, boy, I think July fourth is
really solid. Like I can solidly tell you you'll have
Aaron Rodgers as your quarterback by July fourth? Is that
is that okay with you? Like that's That's not what's
going on here? This is this is five thousand Tomas. No.

Speaker 1 (24:45):
And here's the thing, Jay, is that we talked about
this last week and and I'm with you.

Speaker 3 (24:49):
If this doesn't work for Tomlin, like that's it.

Speaker 1 (24:51):
Like you can only get so many chances to try
to build a team, you know, when when you're trying
to pick a quarterback. But what's crazy to me is
that is that he's been okay, hey, with the guys
he's trying to pick, has been justin Fields and Russell
Wilson and now and now it's waiting for Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 3 (25:05):
Like if you're gonna go down, hey, go swinging.

Speaker 5 (25:09):
Hey.

Speaker 1 (25:09):
We spend a lot of money because we believed in
Sam darl Or we believed in another guy.

Speaker 3 (25:12):
Hey, right, that stuff I would get.

Speaker 1 (25:14):
But this is like, hey, I'm okay with potentially getting
booted out after shopping and the clearance been for a
quarterback for the last four years.

Speaker 5 (25:22):
Yeah, it's kind of odd and like when you look
at how they're built and what their strengths are and
like in the real term, short term, and that's what
we're talking about when we're talking about Ben Roethlisberger three
years after he's already cooked, but we keep running them
out there, and we're talking about the Russell Wilson thing
they tried last year with Fields for one year and

(25:43):
then this it's all about trying to win this next
sleeping game. The best six games fan for me, the
most sustainable, the one that looked like it was on
an up swing, and especially with what the run game was,
Sparks starting to do in the red zone to meet
with the four and two south the field right, remember,
and he just he started to play some of his

(26:05):
best football when they cut his kneecaps off because nobody
other than Mike Tomlin wanted to see Russell Wilson now.
And then that was good for four to six weeks,
and then the wheels fell off, and then unfortunately Field
got hurt, and then you know, there was no going back.
But like, the odd thing to me is I would
have just brought Fields back.

Speaker 7 (26:24):
I mean, that's what I mean.

Speaker 5 (26:25):
I would have just gone ahead and said, look, him
and Warren together in the pistol is going to invigorate
our run game. It's going to help our offensive line out.
We're going to be a ball control defense because I
mean a ball control offense, because that's what we need here.
And like he was starting to cut down on the turnovers,
and I think the best thing for them was to

(26:47):
make you defend the quarterback in the run game, and
now they've gone so far from that. To a guy who,
like I told you we'll just throw it into the
fifth row or throw it into the ground in two points,
you know, two seconds that he doesn't like the way
that play is developing, and he says it might result
in him getting crushed, and I just I coupled with

(27:09):
there's not going to be enough big plays to DK
medcalt to offset the negative runs and the spiked balls,
and I just I just don't buy it. I don't
think like him coming in this late with Arthur Smith.
To me, that's just really like that's a middle singer
to their offensive staff. And if I'm those guys, I'm

(27:33):
not feeling great about this. Whereas you wouldn't have to
put up an a in FBS with with justin Field.

Speaker 3 (27:38):
This is true, all right?

Speaker 4 (27:39):
Well, now he's Jason's guy there with the New York
Football Jets.

Speaker 3 (27:43):
Let's go to another veteran quarterback.

Speaker 4 (27:44):
It looks like Kirk Cousin is going to show up
for mandatory mini camps and and say and try to
shop his wares once again.

Speaker 3 (27:52):
I mean, how does this play out?

Speaker 4 (27:53):
How uncomfortable thing is going to be for Michael Pennix
and for the folks around that yeah office, he's got to.

Speaker 5 (27:59):
Show up Hey, look at me. I'm making more money
than that guy. And if you want me to just
stand here and hold a clip for it, I can.
But I'm not going to violate my contract. I'm not
going to forfeit anything. And yeah, if you think this
is awkward, then you should be getting saw my salary
and get me out of here. I mean, at this point,
I think they've you know, they've undermined themselves in terms

(28:20):
of getting obviously clearly getting something done before we get
to camp. And in the end, they're gonna have to
eat the money that they didn't want to eat to
move them regardless. Now, I'm sure the owners thinking a
couple of quarterbacks get hurt, you know, and contending themes,
and I might, I might have a market, but I
just don't think that these other guys are going to

(28:41):
want to pay the whole the whole salary, you know,
whether it's now or whether it's because they their quarterback
is hurt in August. So I I don't know, man,
I don't I don't see it. And I think he
needed to get ahead of this. Like I can remember people,
how many reports are there about oh, somebody's looking at

(29:01):
Tannehill somebodys looking at Tannehill, like last year all year, Ouk,
did anybody remind me, did anybody sign Tannehill? You know
what I'm saying, Trade Kirk Cousins was before everybody signed
their freaking quarterbacks and drafted their freaking quarterbacks. Like the
time to do it was the combine, for God's sake,
when you should if you know what you're doing, you
start figuring out that, oh, you know what, jam donold

(29:23):
not doesn't have what he thinks she's gonna have, and
you know what, Stafford doesn't have what he thinks she's
gonna have, and he might have to go back to
LA And so you know what, now.

Speaker 7 (29:31):
The time to just eat, like eat seven million to
save fifteen million and get Cousins out of here and
get something for him. Because at fifteen million dif we're.

Speaker 5 (29:41):
Going to be like I can sell that to my owner,
Like yeah, we should give up whatever, pick up a
four that moves to it two if he played twelve
games or more or whatever. But like that shit is
sale and these guys are not in the business of
picking up twenty five million dollar players in the summer.
It doesn't happen a lot of the teams use a
cash budget. Hey, GM, this is what you got once

(30:03):
you ring that credit card up. Good luck. You're looking
at the waiver wire and you're looking at that minimum deals.
So I don't know, man, your guess is as good
as mine.

Speaker 1 (30:12):
He's on Twitter at Jason lock and for that is
at Jason lock and fora Jay as always, Buddy appreciated. Man,
enjoyed the week. Stay hot, stay out with the gambling advice.
Stay hot, my friend. We'll talk to you.

Speaker 5 (30:23):
Hey, thank you, guys. Wanna bet? Wanna bet? On Twitter?

Speaker 1 (30:26):
See Jason time now to find out what's trending in
the wide world of sports.

Speaker 3 (30:30):
Martin Wise, what you got for us?

Speaker 6 (30:33):
The Tampa Bay Rays just made an error in the
bottom of the tenth inning to tie the game between
the Boston Red Sox and Tampa.

Speaker 3 (30:40):
It's not eight to seven. Oh wait a second, they
got just ridical. You know what.

Speaker 6 (30:45):
The score didn't update, you know, maybe it's still seven
to eight to seven. All right, there we go eight
to seven. I'm sorry. At runner advanced to third base,
it looked like, no, yeah, it's eight to eight. They
haven't updated it up here everything, but it says eight
to eight. On the scoreboard anything. I just watched the
guy cross home good.

Speaker 3 (31:03):
You're good, you get hey, let me let me pass
Gal Siakam here, you're.

Speaker 5 (31:06):
Good, bro.

Speaker 3 (31:06):
I'm going through a tough time here.

Speaker 6 (31:09):
I love the extra inning says Tampa Bay eight Boston seven.

Speaker 3 (31:13):
Will go on and two out in the tenth.

Speaker 6 (31:16):
The scoreboard all the actual game and will be extra
innings has four screens at four games going at once.
The scoreboard in the game says eight to eight. But
that's so small because I'm looking at a small screen, Like,
did I really say eight to eight? Then ESPN finally
updates with the actual score. It's eight to eight. MLB
Extra Innings needs to go ahead and get this thing together.
But you know what, They're going to go on to

(31:37):
the top of the tenth inning with the score eight
to eight. Interestingly enough, we will see uh excuse me,
Roman Anthony. That's actually him, Roman Anthony, not Greece Anthony
or France Anthony Roman or Greg Anthony.

Speaker 3 (31:51):
Right.

Speaker 1 (31:51):
I just want to say one one thing, Mark, I
think that this last like like night liss, like sixty
ninety seconds. Maybe glasses maybe you know this is when
the screen get small, screen gets small. Yeah, you gotta
find a way. Screen is not gonna get any bigger.
I've been fighting, I've been fighting a couple of years, all.

Speaker 6 (32:06):
Right, but still MLB extra inning still has an updated
to score, so you know, finally, finally, all right, now
here we go. You know, I'm gonna go ahead and
turn over here because I don't know if I could
trust the rest of these. Okay, the Dodgers with a
five to three lead in the top of the third.

Speaker 3 (32:24):
Legitment, Okay, thanks over the pod race.

Speaker 6 (32:28):
Angels lead the A's four to nothing in the fifth inning.
Arizona with a one nothing lead over Seattle and the
fourth thing that one is on FS one. The Falcons
and quarterback Kirk Cousin expected to attend the team's mandatory
mini camp this week, despite his desire to be traded
to a place where he's gonna be able to play.
The Packers released cornerback jy Or Alexander. The Bengals let

(32:49):
go a veteran linebacker Jermaine Pratt.

Speaker 3 (32:51):
Nick Chubb as his physical finally signed.

Speaker 6 (32:54):
A officially signed a one year deal with the Houston Texans,
and the Indianapolis Colts announced a new ownership plan following
the passing of Jim Irsay.

Speaker 3 (33:02):
His three daughters will each have an.

Speaker 6 (33:04):
Ownership stay Carly Ers Gordon, the owner and CEO of
the franchise. NBA News Cavaliers Guardarius Garland will miss the
start of next season. We need four to five months
to recover from toe surgery. Remember that toe hampered him
in the postseason. The Atlanta Hawks are hiring Pelicans GM
Bryce and Graham to be their senior VP of excuse
me basketball operations. The Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark will

(33:27):
miss her fifth straight game tomorrow night against the Dreams.

Speaker 3 (33:30):
She's got a quad strain.

Speaker 6 (33:32):
Fever coach Stephanie White says the team is going to
take their time with her.

Speaker 3 (33:36):
And in the Stanley Cup.

Speaker 6 (33:37):
Final series tied one to one this one, Brad Marsham
put a goal in with just like under a minute
into the first period, and it has been all Florida since.
Five to one Florida over the Edmonton Oilers with just under.

Speaker 3 (33:52):
Twelve minutes left in the third period.

Speaker 6 (33:54):
Just double checking they are still playing at Fenway Park.
It is official eight to eight in the top of
the eleventh All.

Speaker 1 (34:01):
Right, thanks you much, Mart, Coming up next we got
the play of the day.

Speaker 5 (34:04):
End.

Speaker 1 (34:05):
If you think your team is a blank show, Oh no, no,
you got nothing on the team. We're going to tell
you about coming up next, Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (34:13):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (34:24):
Jerome, Where's My Mayor Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith
Show with my best friend Mike Harmon.

Speaker 4 (34:29):
Now we make people laugh from coast to coast, nation
wide around the globe. I don't know that I've ever
seen Mary laugh quite so hard as when you started
doing your chair dance right there.

Speaker 3 (34:40):
And now you got her dancing everybody, Let's go.

Speaker 1 (34:43):
How's a family got the play of the day coming
your way right now? Thanks to tire raq dot Com
for over forty years, tire Rack's been oping customers find
the right tires for how, what and where they drive,
ship fast and free back by free road hazard touch.
With convenient installation options like mobile tire installation, tirerac dot

(35:04):
Com is the way tire buying should be.

Speaker 3 (35:08):
Well.

Speaker 1 (35:09):
When you are racing to Omaha, you get to be
the play of the day.

Speaker 3 (35:15):
Who outs the two two ground ball to first ball game?
Murray State has done it. Upset in Durham, the Racers
race on to Hall.

Speaker 5 (35:29):
Oh.

Speaker 1 (35:30):
ESPN TV on the call, this is where they needed
Kenny Mains, we could say, and we're racing to Omah.
It sounded like almost like the broadcast when in the
fifties when they would like like try to pretend they
were doing something live and they would play like two
bats hitting each other. Like that's what it sounded like,
that bad sound effect of the ground ball. Ah, there
it is, but Murray State. The Racers headed to Omaha.

Speaker 4 (35:55):
Well, you know you're looking at a duke team that
was trying to do their first appearance in sixty one.

Speaker 3 (36:01):
Yeah, no, Cooper Flagg, because that'll be a big one.

Speaker 4 (36:03):
No, I mean you got that, I mean Murray State.
I guess we go back to uh oh, we got
John Moran.

Speaker 3 (36:07):
Nah.

Speaker 1 (36:08):
Yeh sure this is they have like the fourth fourth
seed ever to make it to Omaha. Like this is
a crazy this is like the Hey, all the mid
majors are winning the nccturn.

Speaker 4 (36:17):
It has been an odd run, certainly before we saw
it on the softball side.

Speaker 3 (36:21):
And now we have it here.

Speaker 1 (36:23):
You got six different teams, six conferences represented, and an independent.
No teams that were in it last year.

Speaker 4 (36:31):
How does this all change now there we have these
new Kakamane rules.

Speaker 3 (36:35):
Well, well again this will be like this.

Speaker 1 (36:38):
But if something changes, like if football realigns, maybe I
won't be able to say that. But seven of the teams,
six different conferences and independent, no teams repeat from last year.

Speaker 3 (36:47):
It's great. That's that's awesome. It's great for the game.

Speaker 4 (36:50):
This is far beyond any of the Hey, we're gonna
have at least one extra winner that goes from worse
to first like we do in the NFL.

Speaker 1 (36:58):
No, here we changed everything out. We're racing now to
the blank show. That Okay, it's good and bad news
because okay, it's not your favorite team, but it's kind
of everybody's favorite team, the US men's national team in soccer. Really,
they have become such a blank show over the course
of the last year. Right, you had that uninspiring loss

(37:19):
in the friendly the other night. You know, Rissio Pochatino
was supposed to commem in and I'm getting everybody ready.
All the players backed out Christian Polistics said he wanted
to back out because he just finished a long season.
Landon Donovan United States Star criticized Polistic about, hey, this
is for country. You should show up because look Ronaldo
is playing right, Like why look look at me. He's

(37:41):
forty years old, he could barely walk and he still knows. Hey,
I'm here to play for my country. And when that happened.
After the criticism of a Polistic, Polistic's dad posted a
post on social media asking Ai why did Landon Donovan
skip playing for the US national team in twenty thirteen,

(38:02):
Because he skipped it began. He didn't make the team
in twenty fourteen after the big run in twenty eleven,
which really was the big birth of American soccer for
the men's side here in the United States. And so
we post this thing. I asked Ai why Landon Donovan
didn't make it? And the AI post was, oh, being
run down and having a lot of renevent and Christian
Polistic like this on social media, right, and you know

(38:24):
I and here's the thing is, I understand that you're
trying to build something new, and you know, allegedly we've
had these young players for so long that are supposed
to be the next great iteration of soccer United States,
but they've been around a while. And I just want
to say this, when is the last time you heard
a good story about the US men's national team? And

(38:45):
the hire a Poachatino doesn't count because we don't know
how that's going to go, right, So, okay, at least
it's not Burhalter. But when's the last time there was
good news either on the field, off the field, personnel
wise anything. When's the last time there was good news
for the US men's national team. I can't even remember
the last time there was saying, hey, we got this,
we got this. They can not competing and the Gold

(39:07):
Cup they're not competing this. People are skipping, healthy players
are skipping that. This is the US men's national team
is such a blank shot, and they had such a
great chance to own the moment, right because the US
women's team was in a downturn. Now US women's team
is back to dominating. The Trent's gonna dominate them for years.
And now the men's team is back being a dumpster fire.

Speaker 4 (39:27):
Oh we always have the next hope, right, we go back.
You and I are doing this long enough together, you
had Altador, he was gonna be the guy. Nope, polistic,
he's gonna be the guy who's next. It's always the
wishing and hoping, you know, hope not being a strategy
and all.

Speaker 3 (39:41):
As we've talked about for a long while.

Speaker 4 (39:44):
Yeah, you can get into these slap fights, but yeah,
it's been negative commentary, either about the coaching or just
trying to figure out how you break through to where
you are an upper tier squad and get the buy
in behind you versus well wishing in home, because that's
all it is. Generations. Hey, this goes back to when
we were kids this all began. I mean, well then

(40:06):
the last time there was good news about this. It's insane.

Speaker 1 (40:09):
You know that the World Cup's gonna be here. I
guess that's good now at least we're gonna be in it.
Coming up next to two big stories out of what
we just saw off for the Panthers on the road
when you can win and double overtime after the Oilers
tied it with seventeen seconds left, Like, I don't know
how you come back from this. Mentally, if you're Edmonton,
you got to go on the road. I'm expecting this
series to be three to one going back to Edmonton,

(40:30):
and well, that's kind of we're seeing it so far
with the Panthers up five to.

Speaker 4 (40:33):
One, looking a lot like the Knicks. I thought they'd
respond better, but I guess.

Speaker 1 (40:37):
Not nix you, but I tell you it happens when
when you get broken and the oilers look like they've
been broken tonight by the Panthers. You knew it wasn't
gonna just be hey, we're gonna take this five to
one whipping and go quietly. No, no, no, because when
when you take the heart of your opponent, when you
drop the puck, sometimes a fight breaks out, Sometimes two
fights break out, sometimes three fights bread sometimes four fights

(41:01):
break out at the same time when you rip their
hearts out, like Boyd Christmas Fight nine and Dumb and Dumber.
Frederick just cross check Bunnet. We'll get stick about Bennet's
get he that's career and.

Speaker 3 (41:15):
Nurse we're just gonna start seeing ten minutes past. That's
getting handed out.

Speaker 1 (41:24):
Daudovic had nurse to the left finger screen, throwing punches.

Speaker 3 (41:30):
Smit's helping us come off. He's tackling with Connor Brown
that if it's still going at it with Nurse.

Speaker 5 (41:41):
Time.

Speaker 1 (41:42):
These guys are just throwing haymakers at each other and
it's not Nick Nurse.

Speaker 3 (41:45):
By the way, it's not to say Nick Nurse is
not fighting. It had a rough end of the year.
Then go at it and no one is calling for
a nurse. Nor if I'd just be wrap on it,
they might be. They were bleeding from their ears.

Speaker 4 (41:56):
Nurse was waiting for Shamus and Drew mcken hired to
show up in this.

Speaker 1 (42:01):
I mean, it was a full on fight night. It
was making their way and trying to watch across go
I'm watching this fight now, No, I'm watching. No, I'm
watching this fight.

Speaker 3 (42:08):
Couldn't pan back far enough to get them all in screen.
That looks like it's the best fight.

Speaker 1 (42:12):
No no, the one in the bottom has been oh no, no, no,
the one of the top riders the bet No no no,
back to the bottom screen, like all this fay is
missing with somebody walking up to the bench and clocking
McDavid in the face. I was kind of waiting for
the slap shot where like when the Hanson Brothers, when
the when the one Hanson brother comes by with this thing,
he goes.

Speaker 3 (42:32):
He goes throughund the whole bench.

Speaker 4 (42:33):
Yeah, but this has hit a situation and Florida just
tacked on another. So now it's six to one, three
minutes remaining. It's the situation. I mean, you coached softball, soccer,
You've watched your share of youth sports to where a
game starts getting out of hands score wise, where you
know the chippy play is coming.

Speaker 3 (42:51):
No, it's like, can we get out of here in
one piece?

Speaker 5 (42:54):
Right?

Speaker 4 (42:54):
A hard slide tackle that doesn't make any sense coming
from behind, or you know, the big hit as as
the balls going out of bounds, or a slide into
second base. That's what we're getting right now from Edmonton.
Like it's just all right, I got a guy near
the boards. I'm just gonna see him up, yeah and
see what happens. Because they they need because and I
get it, because this is hot. This is how you

(43:14):
try to flip some momentum because they have none. They
have absolutely you lose that absolute heartbreaker in in in
game two, which is again in sports, Ye, okay, you
use a heartbreak, you come back the next day. Yeah,
it does always work that way, especially in hockey. Right
at home and now you're you're going to where they're
they're putting up the towels with ransom.

Speaker 3 (43:33):
You always know, like I always know.

Speaker 1 (43:35):
You know what knowing a loss really hits home is
when you see after a game is over and the
team that wins is the road, like in overtime, and
they're celebrating, and everybody's leaving the ice, and you know,
they're doing postgame and everything, and there's pockets of fans
just sitting in their seats because they're so stunned.

Speaker 3 (43:53):
Thousand years I can't get up yet.

Speaker 1 (43:56):
I mean, that's my favor. That's what why why I
love hockey like that? You say all the handshake line
is the best? No, my favorite the fans you just
and and and there's no they're not look like they're
getting up, like you know, the guys there with his
girlfriend neither look like they want to get up, the
guys there with his buddies, or they're just sitting there
and they have that like you said that thousand yards stare.
I'm not ready to leave yet because I don't I'm

(44:17):
not over what I just saw, how we lost this game.

Speaker 4 (44:19):
I'm not helready coming up and tapping them on the shoulder,
come out and moving to the exits. Like they're still
on the court or the ice. I'm not moving.

Speaker 1 (44:26):
Yeah, in the post game, you know, it's like a
half hour is going they still go back and do
the fans just sitting there.

Speaker 3 (44:30):
Hey, yeah, we want to just want to move things
along here.

Speaker 5 (44:32):
You know.

Speaker 3 (44:32):
I want to get home to my family too. I
got some.

Speaker 1 (44:35):
Cold macaroni I'm gonna heat up in the microwave and
then I'm gonna try to watch a little bit of fallon.

Speaker 3 (44:39):
So, uh, let me, I want to go. I want
to get going. I want to get going. I get it.

Speaker 4 (44:42):
Let me eventually want to get this sweep for whatever
give away to see how many you can get for
your eBay auctions. But uh, come on, we gotta we
gotta get it moving.

Speaker 1 (44:50):
But that really, I mean you hear overused all the
handshake at the end of the series, which, boy, I
tay you a handshake. The end of this series might
be interesting, but I mean that that's my favorite. When
I see that, it's like, wow, like you understand.

Speaker 3 (45:00):
You took the soul.

Speaker 1 (45:01):
Yeah, like everybody else football, bet, everybody can't leave. I
can't leave fast enough. In hockey, It's like I can't
believe I need to sit here. I can't get up
and leave yet. And that's awesome. That's why I love.

Speaker 4 (45:12):
That that invested the hockey fan is the best alongside
the glass or a couple of rows up that has
put everything into this squad.

Speaker 3 (45:21):
Yeah, you're absolutely right.

Speaker 4 (45:23):
I watched it for years from the three hundred level
while I was trying to avoid getting bitten by.

Speaker 1 (45:27):
Rats, you know, yeah, or one of the fame now
the squirrel rats that they have in New York.

Speaker 3 (45:32):
Apparently those things are fighting.

Speaker 5 (45:36):
Is this?

Speaker 3 (45:37):
Can we confirm this is real?

Speaker 5 (45:38):
Or is this?

Speaker 3 (45:39):
You know? Ai cgi? What do we got? The rat?

Speaker 1 (45:42):
The squirrel putting his rat tail up over his head
because it's stay out of the rain?

Speaker 3 (45:45):
Oh yeah?

Speaker 5 (45:47):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (45:47):
Now, while we are waiting the game three of the
Stanley Cup Final is going to go to Florida. It's
six to one with a minute left to go. We
are waiting for Game three of the NBA Finals, which
will be on July seventh, And I got a fun
about July. Okay, maybe July sixty. Well, I want to
get to move it. Yeah, you're want to see Paul
Simon on July.

Speaker 3 (46:07):
Yeah, there we go. See it's a perfect song for
this hockey. Sure, but so we're.

Speaker 1 (46:12):
Waiting till Wednesday night for Game three, and I got
I really have a fun thing on waiting between NBA
games coming.

Speaker 3 (46:17):
Up in a few minutes.

Speaker 1 (46:18):
But uh, you think about what's going on so far.
The main criticism of the Finals. Yes, you could criticize
the Thunder for blowing the lead in Game one, for
the Pacers and Halliburton not showing up they need to
in Game two, but virtually everybody is criticizing ESPN because

(46:39):
of the broadcast. No one is a fan of the broadcast.
And again I didn't really get to see the broad
you know, everything Ben until this weekend because Game one
were on the air. But you see that people talking
about after going it doesn't feel like the NBA Finals.
It feels like it's a game in February. There's no
real decoration of the court. Well they super imposed, Yeah, well,

(47:00):
by no, that's whole thing, right, That's my point.

Speaker 3 (47:02):
So it didn't feel like the five.

Speaker 1 (47:04):
That was a big criticism after game We didn't feel
like the Final felt like a regular season game.

Speaker 3 (47:07):
The booth is still trying to figure.

Speaker 1 (47:09):
Out who they are, especially when here's your booth and
the rumors Oh yeah, Doris Burke might not be doing
this anymore.

Speaker 3 (47:14):
Wait, everybody loved Doris Burke.

Speaker 1 (47:15):
No, no, So now someone who's doing this could be
a lame duck and could be out right, this is
this is bad, right. You don't want you don't want
your broadcast criticized. So what happens for Game two? But
ESPN we're gonna super impose a Larry O'Brien trophy on
the court to make it look that way. And that
got criticism and it's still getting criticism that the booth
is not great. It doesn't feel like the NBA Finals. Now,
there is part of it being it's Oklahoma City and Indiana.

(47:38):
It's not Lakers Nicks. It's not the Lakers and the Heat.
It's not the Celtics and Warriors. Right, So I get that,
but I understand the criticism of it. But that's not
But I'm gonna take this in a different direction here,
like why is this? Why is this out there? Like
why is ESPN getting criticized like this? It's happening because ESPN,

(48:00):
more than anybody else, listens to all the outside noise
when it comes to criticism of them as a network
or the on air product. They listen way too much
to what is said on social media, what people say
on television. It's like there's people's jobs to say, Hey,
they're saying this on social media. We gotta get away
from this, right, Like social media hated Chris Berman every

(48:22):
time he did, they hate what happened. Chris Berman basically
does nothing for ESPN anymore. Right, everybody hated. I don't
like the Monday Night Football booth. I don't like the booth.
Ratings were fine. I don't like Steve Levy. I don't
like Jason what happened. We gotta change the book. We
got to hire other guys. Now, gotta spend a lot
of money because nobody likes those guys. They spend way
too much time listening to what is said on social media.
And I'm not even getting in the political sense of

(48:42):
when one person says something about one political party. I
just mean as far as what their content is. They
are so reactionary to whatever people say on social media.
And okay, now, so they heard the response after game one, boy,
it doesn't feel good. The Larry O'Brien trophy is not there.
So some executive just said, let's superposed Larry Brian Trophy.
So let's listen to the people. Lit's listen to the

(49:03):
people on Twitter who are saying, oh, it seems so
small time where people are not going to watch the
finals because of this, Like like you know what, have
a spine and do and do the best broadcast you can,
right for if not every place is perfect? Right now,
every place is perfect and clearly you know, hey, Fox
has you know, issues just like you know other places do.
But I will say this as far as when you know,
I know, when we do stuff for radio and TV,

(49:25):
stuff gets out there, stuff is said, stuff is It
depends if it's sports wise. Now I'm saying it's staying
in the sports world. If the sports world stuff is controversial,
it's controversial and it's said, and nobody don't back away
from it. This is now you get away from the
sports world, that's a different story, right I'm not saying
that stuff away from but you talk about sports because
that's what we're sticking with.

Speaker 3 (49:43):
And this is the presentation of the finals. ESPN. They
have always cared way too.

Speaker 1 (49:49):
Much about what what people think who have a dial
in their hand when they're there trying to you know,
with focus groups for radio, whether it's focus groups for television,
they care so much what the ten people in a
room think, or they care so much what five thousand
people on Twitter are saying, like it seems like it's
all look at at the biggest trending topic is ESPN's
NBA final. Well no, really, only five thousand people are

(50:11):
tweeting about that, but it seems big because it's what
they More people are tweeting about SGA or something else.
But let's focus on that. And that's always been ESPN's
achilles hea. They listen way too much. Right, I'll tell
you this story. This is my favorite story of ESPN
is that they listen to focus groups all the time.

Speaker 3 (50:27):
Right.

Speaker 1 (50:27):
They take the shows. They would take our shows playing
for folks with ten people. They have a dial in
their hand and it would be like they would say, Okay,
when you hear something you like, move it towards ten.
And if you're hearing something you don't like, move it
towards one. Okay, right, so if you have like a
bad three seconds like, they would move the dial towards one,
and the executives go, oh, they didn't like, they didn't
like this conversation. They didn't like this, Oh, but here
they are direct to ten. It's like this is what

(50:49):
they would do.

Speaker 3 (50:50):
Right.

Speaker 1 (50:50):
So there was one time I remember I would meet
with my program director like once a month. We go
over stuff and everything, and you know, the good thing
is my program director is kind of knew like okay,
let's just let's only get involved when we need to.
But when ESPN has a big dictum going forward, it's like,
we want to talk to people. So they say, okay, hey,
uh here's the thing. You know, we found out people

(51:11):
love personal stories. Tell personal stories about stuff that you
can relate to. I was like, well that's my wheelhouse
because I love doing that. Okay, great, but the more
personal story stories you can tell, great, make sure you
relate it to what's going on, but tell personal stories. Okay, awesome.

Speaker 5 (51:24):
Right.

Speaker 1 (51:24):
So that's what we did, not even six months later.
I want to say, this was like in like March,
but like going into football. We had a meeting to yeah, hey,
so we just did Hey, let's cut back on the
personal stories. Wait what cut back on the personal stories?
You know, that's not where we want to go. We
want to I go six months ago, not even six
but personal stories were great you love personal stories, Well,

(51:46):
well I think they went back and they did some
demo wing and they went through in the personal story.
I'm like, oh my god, you guys are insane. You
guys are absolutely insane. But this is how ESPN did it, right,
I mean, hear it fucked. No, No one cares what
I tweeted. Sit here and listen. Care what people tweet
about the shows. If you're saying if you're say, oh
I think this, I think that's like yeah, okay, whatever,
But they listen so much to what's being said, and

(52:09):
now you're seeing this knee jerk reaction and no wonder
there's all kinds of blanket criticism of the finals because
they can't just go and do their thing. Oh no, no,
we gotta listen to what we gotta listen to what
people are saying on social media. So we're gonna change
so they don't program me ESPN. It's twenty So congratulations
the people on Twitter that don't like the brau, you
got that change, you got you now broadcast ESPN.

Speaker 3 (52:28):
You should get money from them.

Speaker 4 (52:29):
Well, especially because you can actually single those people out,
because it's an echo chamber of a very small window
of people on the larger Twitter landscape. So good for
them they were able to affect change in broadcasting. I
don't listen to it. I always have a second screen experience.
I was finishing my siple witz rewatch during the fo.

Speaker 1 (52:48):
Okay, it's on one TV, in the game on the other, ya.

Speaker 3 (52:57):
I got the needle in game One's got the needle?
The Pacers one Game one? The Pacers weren't here in
game two. No, Game two. We watched. He had the experience,
so why would they get the needle in one?

Speaker 5 (53:07):
No?

Speaker 3 (53:08):
Game two?

Speaker 1 (53:08):
We're talking about? But you said game one he was watching.
He was watching NYPD blue end Game two. You said,
who got the needle? The Pacers got the needle?

Speaker 3 (53:17):
Yeah? And if Thunder got the needle in game one?

Speaker 4 (53:20):
Yes, yeah, I mean I know in the final point.

Speaker 1 (53:23):
For the final point, three second, Frostburg said, having a
tough time right now?

Speaker 3 (53:26):
What is it?

Speaker 1 (53:27):
What of the Dodgers, padres What is it? Nine to
nine in the third inning? Is that the score?

Speaker 5 (53:31):
Boy?

Speaker 3 (53:31):
If you bet the over, you're feeling pretty good about now,
come in there like a Florida Panther.

Speaker 1 (53:37):
Night Ah exit out of out of Fresco exit Swallen
Dome the Jason smithser with Mike Carmon live from the
Fox Sports Radio Shooters. So you want to know why
ESPN has always cared way too much about what's being
said on social media. I mean, you see it in
all their decisions they make over the last three years
