Speaker 2 (01:07):
It's time it go.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
People are gonna be missing fingers and oh, by the way,
happy Bobby Bennie a day.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
I don't know if we.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
Got it in was that more than thirty seconds I
had people asking.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
For the over under all day.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
It is Bobby Bennie a day, it is Mets Christmas.
You know that's kind of got Yeah exactly, I was.
I was day night, doubleheaded tomorrow. Yeah, so we'll lose
at least one of those games. So yeah, but now
today was Mets gret And again, what do I say,
All the three days of the year, I get the
most texts my birthday, Father's Day, and Bobby Benie a
(01:44):
day and not in that order. I woke up this
mort right away when I turned my phone on, because
I was, you know, I go to I go to sleep,
and I always turn my phone off because I have
so many people in my wife's family that just really
after being in LA for thirty years, don't understand that
if they send a text at seven in the morning,
it's four o'clock in the morning here. So I always
turn my phone off. And every time when I turn
(02:05):
the phone on, you know, in the morning, I usually
get a couple of text messages. You know, you and
Frostburg send stuff. But when I turn on my phone
and it's I know, okay, something has happened with the
Mets or the Jets most likely, or the Knicks, right,
I know, but today I knew I'm gonna come up.
(02:26):
Yeah yeah, okay, yep, yep, yep, yep, yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
yeah yeah. Bobby Benia, Well.
Speaker 3 (02:32):
What do we always say on the show, We want
to be loved or hated. Don't be indifferent. So either
that's love or it's hate. Because in the end, you
did end up with David Wright because of all of that.
Speaker 1 (02:44):
Yeah, no, we did.
Speaker 3 (02:45):
It's just so there is a lot of positive into it,
and they were able to make some other moves over
the course of the period by just and that money
stayed in an account as opposed to being paid out
to Bobby Benia.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
So all in all it worked out.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
Okay, yeah, Bibani who gets one point one nine million
or actually more than that because I saw a T
shirt today them going to buy That's just it's Mets
orange and is one point six for like the exact
amount that Bobby Benia gets paid every every July first
for the Mets. Uh, I saw, I gotta get that
T shirt. That's an awesome T shirt.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
Yeah, because he.
Speaker 3 (03:19):
Also gets money. I think through the Orioles money. Yeah,
I ked Griffy still was on the payroll for the Reds.
I mean there's a bunch of guys with money, but
Benia has become the patron saying of this, uh this
artist stry.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
And I love the fact that it's so easy every
year to find on the internet. Like like it's like
when you see it, go to a news site and
they have a sports story that we all know because
we're sports fans, but you know, people reading news don't
know sports have to explain stuff why Tom Brady do it.
It's like, okay, everybody knows this, right, But I love
that every Bobby Benita day you can find pretty easy
(03:52):
one of the big sites with its Yahoo or CNN
or whatever, Fox News, Like here's why Bobby Benia gets
paid one point one nine million. Yeah, the thought people,
and it's in education. It's here what happened in the
you know, Bobby Benia played for the Mets, and then
it's why it happened, how it happened. It's happened since
Like it's all about education, Like if you want to
(04:12):
learn about it, it is that they give you an
article very every July first, Every July first, and is
there for you to learn about Bobby Benia Day, how
the deal.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
Was structured, why it was structured.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
The way it does the again, the Hampton to David Wright,
stuff's usually buried in like the fourteenth parent Yeah, because
it's it's kind of like the pictures and Moneyball. Yeah,
that people commediately forget about. Oh what a great story.
Look at what they did.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
It's like they had three of the best pictures. Yeah years,
but that that kills the romances absolutely, and Miguel Tahata
was the MVP exactly. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
Here's my favorite, though, is the the convergence of our
our sports run on social media to the trading cards
guys that that I follow, because they all started posting
their favorite Bobby benia cards.
Speaker 2 (04:58):
He's got some doozies.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
There's a couple of where he's got like this giant
shades on that take up like three quarters of his face.
Oh yeah, and he's pointing in smile and it's like, yeah,
that might be the quintessential, quintessential photo for what we're
talking about today.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
You can learn all about Bobby Benia Day's don't even educate,
we can inform. We're oh yeah and really and I
don't know why. I guess since we started talking this
a couple of years ago, I always think, you know,
I had this vision in my head that, Okay, when
will I retire from doing what I'm doing? Right? No
always said, okay, maybe the last Bobby Benia day, right,
which is twenty thirty five, the last time he'll get paid?
Speaker 4 (05:33):
Right?
Speaker 1 (05:33):
And I'm thinking, do I do I try it? I mean, okay,
do I try to go to the last Bobbyia day?
Do I try to do it earlier? Do I want
to really do it I'm Bobby Benia day and share
that day with him? Or do I want to do
it the day after Bobby Benia?
Speaker 5 (05:46):
Like?
Speaker 1 (05:46):
Which? Like, I don't know, and I would I think
about that a lot, like this is probably the day
of the year. I think about, you know, what I
want to do? How much longer I want to do it? Yeah,
I'm still enjoying it, loving and having fun, but you
making it to the end, like that would be real.
I'd be sixty five at that point. I can make
it to the end. But I'm like, you know, maybe
not so much on Maybe it's maybe sixty two is
where I should go. But I feel like yeah, Bobby
Benia Day, I just sit, I spend the whole day
(06:08):
and I'm listening to all old songs.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
You know. Ah, that's what it is.
Speaker 1 (06:11):
Think about think about life, think about the future, think
about what you have ahead of you. And I started
thinking today. And the big thing was that I said, oh,
if I'm gonna do that, right, if I'm not Knockwood, right,
if I cause you know, you make plans and God laughs. Right,
So if they say yeah, if I so, if I say, okay,
twenty you know, twenty thirty five, right for Bobby Benita, Okay,
that means I would have starting for today. That means
(06:32):
I would have less than ten years to do what
you did to finish, you know, working right.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
To do that.
Speaker 1 (06:37):
And I think, wow, okay. And sometimes it seems like
a long time. Other times it seems like it's nothing.
It's been doing this for you know, two decades now.
But I just it's always that day. Like I I
don't think about it on my birthday. I don't think
about it on Christmas. I don't think about it on
January first. Like Bobby Benia Day gives me, gives me
that lou read feel of just you know, listening to
songs and just want to just want to think back
(06:58):
about life and really just get give you one of
those songs that they play at the end of The
Bear all the time. It really makes you want to
think about what life is doing to you and the
choice you make. Because The Bear is all about music montages.
Because the scripts of The Bear are like fifteen pages
long and it contains like six or seven music montages,
which songs are just sad that you don't really know.
Speaker 2 (07:19):
That's the Bear.
Speaker 1 (07:19):
Oh by the way, congratulations, I'm being renewed for season
five even though the show is stuck for a year
and a half. So to say that's kind of what
it's at right now.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
You got no value out of this season.
Speaker 1 (07:29):
No, I'm four episodes in and nothing has still happened. Man,
nothing has still happened.
Speaker 3 (07:34):
You're gonna say there is one episode that will redeem it, Okay,
but the rest was like the Christmas episode.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
Which was amazing, but the rest of it, it's they had.
The first season was same. God, the second season was
really good and then they ran out of idea. I
can't keep watching them make food and think that it's
it's an incredible new thing like you're doing the same
thing and there's no plot, no plot. Oh, I can
explain everything that's happened in the Bear of the last
year and a half in fifteen seconds. Hey, I'm not
(08:03):
gonna do it because people who want to spend time
watching ten hours and tells we're gonna go wow. I
never gonna get that, Doe, Hey, we get more Richie.
I'm Richie Rules. I'm waiting for the episod where Richie
has to cook because everybody gets sick.
Speaker 3 (08:13):
Well, eventually we're gonna have a spinoff for my family
and I hang out with rich.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
Cook burgers like Michael Sarah, So you get that. It's
episode seven. Oh, I gotta get to second. I'm gonna
do the rest of this season. But that might be
that really might be it.
Speaker 3 (08:32):
Like I'm they're all contractually obligated to come back, which
is why season five green. I'm just I think if
they had to renegotiate with all of them and pay
the rates they would get now, because look, Carbi's gonna
get an Oscar nomination from all reports. Of course, we
got the thing coming out here in a couple of weeks.
Speaker 1 (08:54):
They're all they're all done they're all done. They've all
seemed like that, and clearly the one who's most done
is Christopher store or the Cause. It's just I mean, really,
I could write an entire season of The Bear in
one day, well but a lot.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
Of the day. All right, here's your set.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
Script is twelve pages long, and it's just all it
is is just a way for me to get from
one music montage the next, like Rocky four, just get
from one music montage to the next. Plant and I
needed more polter. Yeah, that's what I needed out of
this season. Five minute music montage to start to a
three minute scene. So three pages of dialogue, another five
minute music montage. It's all I need. I don't even
(09:27):
need dialogue. It's just car me chops up carrots. How
long is that like a minute and a half? Okay, Okay, yeah, okay,
like I had to want. Like, like I just finished
watching Scallops. I'm like, if I really I'm watching Iowa
to Beer. I'm like, is she really I'm watching this
for like two and a half minutes making a scallop?
I'm really watching this? Like this is this was like
season one? Okay, I'm like, I come.
Speaker 3 (09:48):
On, man, come on what if it's new to you,
I'd rather if you just don't you.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
Just read the Skrzyzewsky book again. If you're gonna show
me something else, I'm like, come on you, I've seen this.
Give me something new. Like Bobby Day. We've had Bobby Day.
Speaker 2 (10:02):
It's still happening there, it is. What do you think
of that happen? You show me?
Speaker 3 (10:04):
That's a picture of Bobby ninety two. That's a Pinnacle page.
So they had like one guy from each team where
you see the reflection of them with their their hitting
or whatever in their shades.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
It's pretty cool.
Speaker 1 (10:15):
It's just instead of that, it should just be money
signs for Bobby ben Well.
Speaker 3 (10:18):
Eventually I think we can do an altered card with
that one. But certainly, Yeah, I understand your vexation with
the bear, but yeah, twenty thirty five would be great.
I love your romanticism of it though, just kind of
thinking about this larger world, getting your musical montage and
me I sit in traffic.
Speaker 2 (10:34):
Gag. I've done the romanticism.
Speaker 1 (10:38):
It's like on a day to day I love you,
I love this, this is great, this is the greatest thing.
Speaker 3 (10:44):
And then I'll have that day where I'm like, yeah, no,
it's Benia Day. I gotta go talk about Bobby Venia.
Speaker 1 (10:50):
How could you not be romantic about Bobby Benia Day. Oh,
they're laughing.
Speaker 3 (10:54):
I love the business of sports, So like this is
one of those great days.
Speaker 2 (10:58):
Because everybody mocks the Mets for what man actually was.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
It explains it. Just, Hey, here's a guy that hasn't
played for the Mets in twenty years, and here's why
the Mets will keep paying him one point one million
dollars on this date and it sounds embarrassing. And there's
people that I meet that that meet me for the
first time that go, you know, you're a mention. I
heard about this, Bobby. You know what, go blank yourself,
(11:21):
not gonna talk to you. I'm a really nice guy,
but no, I'm done, not gonna do this. And I
walk away and I go to the cheese tray, and
that's much better than ever starting. Hey, I didn't mean
to say anything, just you don't even just go over there.
I'm eating cheese now, I'm in my happy place.
Speaker 2 (11:35):
You go over there.
Speaker 4 (11:35):
You know what.
Speaker 3 (11:35):
There is a large discussion about cheese in one of
the episodes, so maybe that demon okay, all right.
Speaker 1 (11:41):
Very good. Okay, that that's good. Great. Is there a
discussion or do we just watch cheese curd? Is that
the whole thing is? They're four minutes of cheese curd?
Would be d two to a song. I trying to
think a song with the word cheese in it. I
can't even think about it. I can't even think the
theme to chuck e cheese. I don't know. Just watching cheese,
watching the holes show up in Swiss cheese? Is that
what it is?
Speaker 3 (12:02):
Let's see songs with cheese and the lyrics for a
hundred Yeah, well I got out, oh exactly. But uh
you have cheese Shop by Monty Python.
Speaker 1 (12:13):
Yeah. Do you have Cavian beer? Uh no, no, no, no,
but finest cheech whatever you want to ask? How about Brie?
Uh no, no.
Speaker 3 (12:21):
That queen evidently in nineteen ninety one had a song
called pork, roll, egg and Cheese.
Speaker 1 (12:26):
Okay, all right, that was between push a little day,
isn't But that's Bobby Benie a day for me and
and it never stops it never You respond all of
those or you just say beat it? Wait, no, where's
the one I just got from?
Speaker 4 (12:39):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (12:40):
Basically my brother in law who has like sent me
the one of the uh oh yeah, here this one
he just sent me, Yeah, the one of the it's
the Seinfeld one where it's uh Jerry counting out money
and uh each other. Yeah, and he's got the Mets
head on and Bobby Benie has got just smiling and
the money's coming out like that's like twenty minutes ago.
It's an entire day of Bobby Benie. I can't get
away from it. I really can't, you know what. But
(13:01):
it's nice to feel love, though, isn't it. I mean
I feel like or loved or hated like I said, no, no, no,
it's one or the other. It's either the blank you.
Speaker 3 (13:08):
But it's also still with the smile of hey, you know,
it's been a day and I thought of you.
Speaker 4 (13:12):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (13:13):
I mean that's not a bad way to be.
Speaker 5 (13:14):
Like.
Speaker 1 (13:14):
I like it because it is people thinking me, but
it's thinking, oh, I could go make fun of something
with Jason. So the part of it is like, Okay,
I enjoyed Bobby to day, but I think when it's over,
it's not something that I'm gonna miss. I'm gonna feel
like I had my fill of Bobby Benia days. I'm
kind of done with that now. I'm we kind of
have to see that final novelty check show Up'm kind
of done. Yeah, well yeah, I mean, you know, in
(13:36):
twenty thirty five, sure, that's that's ten more years of
Bobby Benia days.
Speaker 4 (13:40):
Man.
Speaker 3 (13:40):
Then we celebrate the year that that deal was signed
with nothing but music and TV montages from that, and
then we we sign off and you play the figurative
Steve Dall just go demolition and blow it up.
Speaker 2 (13:57):
Either that or it was like tomkis.
Speaker 1 (13:59):
Uh makes it up about of Fresco exit swollen Dome.
Jason Smith, Mike Harmon live from the Bobby Benia Studios
here at Fox Sports Radio. We will have the day
in NBA free agency, some big moves, big seismic decisions
by some teams. But coming up next we got Jason
Locking Forest hoping by NFL Insider. Still the reaction to
(14:24):
yesterday's Steelers Dolphins trade and what happened today as a
result of that trade, ty Shirt, I can't believe you
didn't play having time when it's getting.
Speaker 2 (14:35):
Time to heal, take some time today.
Speaker 1 (14:37):
Look at the cheese saw. Where's it.
Speaker 6 (14:42):
All right?
Speaker 1 (14:42):
I'll listen to the cheese on instead. Okay, Wow, this
makes eat and cheese sound sexy. I brought the cheese, baby.
I'm rubbing that Gouda all over my body. Yeah. Here
comes a little up yellow American coming your way. Oh
(15:06):
I say no, I like this song. Now?
Speaker 2 (15:08):
Did you just say pecorina?
Speaker 1 (15:09):
Pekerina? How about that? That's pretty deep cut right there?
This is the song they would play. This is it
right here?
Speaker 2 (15:16):
It's coming on for your funeral.
Speaker 1 (15:20):
It's coming up next Jason and Mike Jeez Radio. Geez,
PEENIEI Dradney's kid brother. Actually my name isn't cheese anymore.

I just like because they had a guy that would
They did a whole episode where they were dressed up
like food.
Speaker 1 (16:36):
Oh okay, they looks like like for the loom, like grapes.
Speaker 3 (16:39):
And they're running around like, you know, singing for kids

Speaker 1 (16:56):
Well, a surprising uh the cheese song heavy rotate so
far in the first twenty minutes of the show. Again
the whole show I have not gotten yet taken time
to heal the Darren Waller song which would be appropried.
Speaker 8 (17:09):
Not why not I need time to heal from its
need time toy on the heels of the all Pro
traded day ago, in which the Dolphins decide to send
john Hus Smith and Jalen Ramsey to the Steelers in
exchange for Minka Fitzpatrick.
Speaker 1 (17:24):
Hey, the Dolphins don't have a tight end. Well, now
they do because they have traded a late round pick
to the Giants for the rights to Darren Waller, who
is coming out of retirement after a year away. And
we'll play for the Dolphins this season. Darren Waller back
in the He took his time to heal, and now
he's back and now back with us on the hot line.
(17:47):
Longtime NFL insider, check him out on Odyssey one oh
five seven the Fan in Baltimore, Washington Post. It is
Jason locking for it now, Jay, I know, was your
bet of the day Darren Waller coming out of retirement
of the day today?
Speaker 2 (18:02):
Row, It was not.
Speaker 4 (18:04):
Although we did do a live stream before the trade,
the Steelers tables loop come to me and I did
say I still think they're getting Jonah Smith, whether it's
now or certainly before the trade deadline. Then it happened
about forty five minutes later. It was you know, the
full details of the trade emerged. Yeah, look, I'll play
(18:28):
Jonah Smith over Darren Waller right now, Like that's just
the reality. Johnah Smith was a very effective player last
year in an offense that was pretty broken. You know,
author Smith with two tight ends, you know, and Aaron
Rodgers with two tight ends. I think we'll know what
to do with that. I do think that trade helps
the Steelers. I'm not sure that it helps the Dolphins
(18:48):
as much. And tight ends are a lot like inside
linebackers and running backs. You know, when you play in
those high traffic areas, when you go, it tends to
go all at want and you don't get back. You know.
Earway may help Waller, but Waller wasn't very productive and
you know with the Giants, and it seemed like his
body was starting to break down. So I like that
(19:10):
trade a lot more for the Steelers from the Steelers' perspective.
And people can talk about money being moved around and
this or that. I mean, Minko wasn't happy in Pittsburgh
and Ramsey obviously wasn't going to be back at Miami.
But for Pittsburgh, it's all about the year. And now
it's about this year, you know, And and so under
the sort of the the premise of everything there and
(19:33):
sort of in the proper context, which is they're trying
to make something happen this year. I like that trade
for them.
Speaker 1 (19:42):
Yeah, for the Dolphins, though, Jan and we talked about
it last night. I don't understand. I feel like there's
a there's a there's a division in what some of
the team wants to do and what what some of
the front office wants to do, because I don't understand
their philosophy. Look at this and I go, they just
want to save okay, and they're going to get younger
out of our defensive back position, and like, are they
(20:04):
really trying for this year? Are they tanking? I don't
get what they're doing.
Speaker 4 (20:09):
No, they're in betwixt and in between. Yeah. I mean,
you haven't picked a clear lane because they you know,
because I think the coach knows what's going on there,
and he knows, you know, his nipples and the ring
are there a little bit, and they're starting to get
right and they're clamping down, and so you want to
do things to appease the owner financially, but you don't
(20:31):
want to completely wave in the white flag and just
be trading, you know, salaries for future draft picks that
you can't use, you know, for ten more months. Yeah,
I think they're in a weird spot and I don't
think it's going to go very well for them. And
I have played them under six and a half wins
in all markets in their win total, and I think
(20:51):
they are going to finish last in that division. And
I don't think that's particularly great division. So no, I
don't think all the pressure and angst there is going
to bring out the best of the coach or bring
out the best in that in that offense and the
offensive line is going into decay, you know, the outside
zone stuff, the tried and true Kyle Shanahan stuff. You know,
(21:14):
even that's become a little bit more of a struggle
for them. I don't really fancy them on defense. They
don't do a whole lot for me in the trenches
or otherwise.
Speaker 2 (21:22):
Wow, he was able to get your team out of
the basement. We're out of that.
Speaker 1 (21:26):
You're not going to finish last, Jet.
Speaker 2 (21:27):
Jet Jet yet yet.
Speaker 4 (21:29):
Yeah, Jets could finish second in that division. Honestly, the
way I've played it is Buffalo. You know, you can
do the exact order I like Buffalo, the Jets, the Patriots,
and uh the Dolphins in that order.
Speaker 1 (21:44):
Who you just made Smith's stay.
Speaker 4 (21:49):
Yeah, you can get pretty good odds there.
Speaker 2 (21:52):
How they look.
Speaker 4 (21:52):
They Jets took play some defense, and Aaron Glenn's going
to give them back to what they were. They've got
talent there. Not having all Aaron Rogers and all that ridiculousness,
Like the Jets with no expectations might surprise you a
little bit. The Jets with expectations you're probably you know,
cruising for a bruising. But I think it has more
to do with the Dolphins being terrible, and I think
(22:13):
the hype train on New England's a little bit like
a little bit out of control. For me, I just
think there's way too much annointing going on there. That's
a team that's become terrible at home. That's a team
that's had major locker room and cultural issues. That's a
team that's been searching for an identity since Brady left.
(22:34):
We're able the heck of a coach, but I, you know,
the quarterback I think will be good. But for AF
think I was already you know, our top twelve quarterback
in this league, Like I have. I have major questions
about them on defense. So I think the Jets with
no expectation and running a ball control offense with fields
(22:56):
who I'm still a little bit of a sucker for. Like,
I think they could us around and like I don't know,
eight wins might be second in that division like that.
That wouldn't shock me at all.
Speaker 1 (23:06):
I'll take Yeah, I got him. Find you jacked up
about it? All right, Let's go to your division, the
NFC North. Let's go back to the Steelers for a second.
Speaker 5 (23:16):
T J.
Speaker 2 (23:16):
Watt.
Speaker 3 (23:16):
Is he going to sign a deal or are we
going to see him in another universe?
Speaker 4 (23:20):
I can't, man, but see what mode they're in there,
and that's the voters. So no, they're not trading him.
He's not going anywhere. There's a little bit of shame
of rattling going on, media being used, and that's how
it goes in high stakes negotiations. But you know, Watt
knows the deal, and he knows they don't two contracts
(23:41):
in season, and they do tend to get a lot
of deals done in training camp. That's always sort of
been their way. You go up there in the mountains
and Latrobe, and you know, there's you're sitting in dorms,
you're with and your family. You got nothing to do
but watch football practice, you know, and talk to agents
and try to get things done. And if I had
a lot of success doing it for really decades there
(24:03):
that way, and I'd be stunned if this isn't done,
if it's not done by the time they get to Latrobe.
But I think it's done the first week. It's great
a game, all right.
Speaker 1 (24:12):
Lastly, say, let me ask you this, speaking to your
gambling acumen. Here we saw the big early odds for
NFL MVP come out today, and you know the guys
up at the top, you'd expect josh Alla Lamar Jackson.
If I said to you, where's your value for an
MVP pick at this point in the NFL this year?
You can get me justin field if you want, But
where's your value an MVP pick at this point?
Speaker 4 (24:34):
Well, I've sprinkled on Jordan Loves and I'm on the
Packers in a lot of different ways. Samuel Packers over
the team total, I'm on Packers over Packers to win
the division. I'm on a Packers raven super Bowl, and
so yeah, man stands the reason if I'm not bullish
on that team, that that quarterback who played so well
(24:54):
the final through ten games or so of the twenty
twenty preseason. I don't think he was ever healthy in
twenty twenty four. But like they've added more pieces there.
I just don't think he was ever healthy last year.
I don't think he was right going into that game
in Brazil, and he certainly wasn't right coming out of it.
But that's a head coach who's had success with offenses
(25:19):
there with multiple quarterbacks at the helm. You know, Jacob's
second year there, he's even more settled in. I like
the O line, they added more skill pieces. I think
the defense in year two with that decoordinator will be
we'll step up, We'll give them more short fields, and
the healthier love got last year, the turnovers, you know,
(25:41):
got cut down. I still think he could run a
little more than he does, and I don't think he's
going to throw the ball to the other team nearly
as much as he did the first half of last year.
So you can't get some real value on him. And
again you go back to the second half of twenty
twenty three, he and Matt Stafford were playing at an
MVP type level. And I think, you know, I think
(26:02):
Love is in his prime and he can get back.
Speaker 1 (26:04):
There, honestly. Washington Post one oh five seven the Fan
in Baltimore and check out Wanna Bet every day on YouTube.
You get all stuff like this and more from Jason
Lock and for Jay as always, Buddy, appreciate it. Man,
we'll talk to you next week. Have fun.
Speaker 4 (26:19):
Hey, have a great week.
Speaker 2 (26:19):
Gosh, thanks, you have a good holiday, buddy.
Speaker 1 (26:21):
Seem all right, There goes Jason Lock and for Yeah,
I'm looking for the MVP odds. Jets played not on there,
Nobody from the Jets on there. Nobody, no. Well, but
that means that you can just bet the field.
Speaker 3 (26:33):
And now you've got their cast of characters to rise
from the depths.
Speaker 1 (26:37):
Now, I mean, look, you see the odds and I.
Speaker 2 (26:39):
Can bet on. It's like having fifteen fantasy teams. Now
you got everybody.
Speaker 1 (26:43):
Jordan loves Let's he went too three four, five, six seven,
the eighth favorite. Now he is plus twenty five hundred,
so there's money to be made there. But he's just
ahead of Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray, Caleb Williams comes ahead
of Dak Prescott, which is like, oh my goodness. Then
you have Jared Goff, Brock Purty, and then bow Nicks.
These are these are these guys in the top fifteen,
(27:04):
all quarterbacks obviously because they're gonna, you know, likely get
the uh you know, get the vote. But that's how
your list is breaking down right now for the NFL
MVP award ons.
Speaker 3 (27:14):
What's curious is how many folks h By time we
get to Week one, we'll be on the hype train
for the Arizona Cardinals and Kyler Murray, Yeah, who's had
fast starts in the past. Now you've bolstered the defense
full off season with Marvin Harrison Junior. That made some upgrades,
uh to that offense as well, so maybe you get
(27:35):
a little on board there. Jared Goff's interesting because the expectations.
Speaker 1 (27:39):
Are so goodness, my goodness, he's low. I mean, he's
plus three thousand.
Speaker 3 (27:44):
But that's just it is. People have backed off, say, well,
the coordinators are both gone, so suddenly this team's gonna
take a huge step back. That's one I'd be looking
at the over unders on the win total to see
what kind of value you can find there. Since everybody's
on the Caleb Williams, Ben Jonson Higher Train, the Packers
and then certainly the unknown of JJ McCarthy and the
(28:06):
Vikings because you see how good a roster they have.
Speaker 2 (28:09):
So I think.
Speaker 3 (28:10):
The Lions are in Detroit in general, just getting discounted
all over the sporting landscape.
Speaker 1 (28:17):
The most interesting one to me, and it's not about
a long shot. This is just wow. When I saw
how high he was, ahead of c. J. Stroud, right
ahead of Prescott, ahead of Jared Goffead with the seventh
highest odds to win the MVP is justin Herbert. Yeah,
seventh highest odds. So this to how much everybody is
(28:38):
buying on the Charge. Look, I'm buying in the Charges
second year now that you know, Hardball's put in his
system and this is what I want to do. And
now instead of just having placeholders, he's actually got dudes
coming in. But I mean, still to jump up and
be the seventh favorite right now, just behind Jalen Hurts
to win NFL MVP. This tells you Vegas they love
the Chargers this year. Man, Look at the Chargers. But
(28:58):
the thing that's burg how excited are you Argers?
Speaker 2 (29:01):
Well, not anymore than you are come on, we're counting down.
Speaker 3 (29:05):
You got a monthy, You're gonna need a lot of
suntan oil and briefs.
Speaker 1 (29:09):
And what a trade The Chargers trade Justin Herbert to
the Jets in exchange for Justin Field now.
Speaker 3 (29:16):
But the thing with Herbert is curious that he's that
high is that based on what we've seen, that doesn't
mean things aren't subject to change. That you're not having
him wing it around fifty times a game, right, normally
with the MVP go wins and some gaudy stats that
you're gonna back up. So that's the curiosity for Herbert
(29:36):
being the seventh highest or seventh best odds for an MVP.
Are you thinking he's achieving those heights given the style
of game that the Chargers like to play?
Speaker 1 (29:49):
Exit? How about a Fresco exit swelling Dome. Jason Smith

Speaker 2 (34:46):

At Target. Center there are a lot Of fever fans
in this building.
Speaker 7 (35:02):
And indiana has done, it their first Ever Commissioners Cup.
Championship knock it off The Minnesota.
Speaker 1 (35:12):
LYNKS wnba on the. Call, yes Without Caitlin, clark The
Indiana fever beat The Lynx knight to win The Commissioner's.
Cup we helped them to. Shooting they get This laurel
And hardy, handshake but Without Caitlin clark they do it
a big. Night, Look Sophie cunningham has thirteen off the,
(35:33):
bench which we'll have more On Sophie yeya coming up
in the. Show but, look here's the, thing, Right so
The fever win tonight and they beat The lynx and
it's a big. Headline but what have we seen the
last day or, so the discrepancy between the fact That Caitlin,
clark who is An All star, captain right number one vote,
getter and for THE Wnba All Star, game we get
that note late last night that according to the way
(35:57):
The All stars are, selected you, know the fan vote
is a, percentage the coaches vote is a, percentage and
the player vote is a, percentage and it comes out, that,
hey the player, vote she finished ninth among. Guards and
there's a little bit of a discrepancy between the fact
that it's not that they voted her. Ninth she just
finished ninth because she wasn't in the top four of
voting for The All stars because she's been hurt this
(36:18):
year and other players are playing. Well but it doesn't
because here's your, Headline Caitlyn clark finishes, ninth and how
does this? Happen how does this? Happen and, again this
is What i've said over a year, ago and again
people are coming around to this now BECAUSE i actually
heard it today on the. Radio THE wnba is succeeding despite.
Itself AND i don't know how much longer you can
(36:40):
succeed despite, yourself for because they have proven that they
can't handle. Success all they have had is success handed
to them Since Caitlyn clark was lucky enough to have
her exhaust her, eligibility and she's ready to come to
THE nwnba because she's the most popular women's basketball player
in the history of the. Sport she is the league
(37:00):
and jumped into the. League and now they have all
kinds of great travel and now they have three expansion
teams coming because Of Caitlin. Clark, again we'll get To Sophie.
Cunningham three coming because Of Kitlyn. Clark and still every
other day there's a story about the backlash Against Caitlin, clark,
right and now you can you can debate how much
she was voted on The was it really that everybody
(37:22):
hates her she's voted ninth or was she just not
in the top four and she had the ninth most,
Points like there's there's a there's a little bit of
inside baseball with, This but the bottom line is, still
here's another day where it's a, great incredibly positive headline
for THE. Wnba here's a day where they all these
all these expansion teams coming and she's the biggest vote.
GETTER i think she got more votes this year than
like you, go like four years, ago she that's more
(37:44):
votes than anybody got had total for everybody in The
All Star game for THE. Wnba like she's done. That
and yet here's another day where, it's, oh everybody Hates Kitlyn.
Clark they just cannot handle success and you have to
get it and gotta get'll handle on it at some
point because it's not gonna be there, forever but handling.
Speaker 2 (38:02):
Sixth that's all it.
Speaker 1 (38:03):
Is and they're succeeding despite the fact they don't know
how to do.
Speaker 3 (38:07):
This, well what's great about, it right is nearly one
point three million votes For Caitlin, clark third amongst the
media because that's the other, portion and then ninth amongst.
Players so this begets the question with a fifteen point
burial of the links, tonight does the ninth place ranking among?
Speaker 2 (38:27):
Players is it? Justified eighty seven? Seven?
Speaker 4 (38:30):
Not?
Speaker 3 (38:32):
Yeah at how about a presco at swalling down At
Fox Sports.
Speaker 2 (38:36):
Radio bring it in as you.
Speaker 3 (38:38):
Will, no they're just they're they're just really got a
pretty good squad right. Now but all of it to, say,
yeah so they have a liking problem with, her they,
DON'T i mean and that's gonna that only has so
much of an effect, though, right as long as they.
Speaker 2 (38:55):
Don't hurt her and she's able to play.
Speaker 1 (38:57):
GAMES i, mean what's the what's the homer The Homer
simpson to succeed despite. Oneself that's, right they're succeeding despite.
Themselves AND i told you last week this is not
going to. Change there's not gonna be a magic pill
that's gonna have somebody, say, fine we'll all Love Caitlyn,
clark will all seem like we're in On Caitlin clark
(39:18):
being great and being big flay the stuff that everybody
is now enjoying and unpresent levels of. Popularity it doesn't.
Matter there's still gonna. Be this is gonna ten years from,
now it's still gonna. Be don't like the fact That
Caitlin clark is getting all Over, Yeah but my question to, this,
though is when more votes to.
Speaker 3 (39:34):
Do it comes back to the did you include those
last couple of games after you broke her by declare
declaring it a final in terms of her great that's a.
Speaker 2 (39:44):
Look i'll take. It it's my.
Speaker 1 (39:45):
Fault it's my fault that she's had a bad last four.
Game i'm not on the hook for the, injury but
the bad last four games three point. Range i'll take.
That that's my. Fault it was all that's my fault
because that's.
Speaker 3 (39:55):
You decided that he's heating. Up she's on fire completely.
Me that's all me FALL Nba.
Speaker 1 (40:02):
Jam i'm the best defender THE wnba has ever had
his eyeshut.
Speaker 2 (40:06):
Down.
Speaker 3 (40:06):
KATELIN i sit here AND i look at, you and
you look like Sad Bill macy from the.
Speaker 1 (40:10):
Cooler BUT i, mean at some point they're gonna realize
this is how we handle. Success but it doesn't. Matter
they're gonna have a league where the most popular player
and their best player is gonna be hated by a
large portion of players. COACHES i, mean it's only normally
get that one they pull and we find out About
jordan Or.
Speaker 2 (40:30):
Lebron aren't they generally?
Speaker 1 (40:31):
Hated that's. It out about A fresca ect the swollen.
Dome coming up, next we'll tell you what's probably gonna
happen with the player everybody wants to know about this
Free agenciason in THE. Nba fox.

Earlier otani had followed what off and felled the home

Great Happy Canada day to our listeners who maybe north
of the border able to still pick up The Fox
sports radio. Signal of, course our day is in a
couple of days AND Nhl Free Agency, day so a
lot of exciting things happening there. Too BUT i think
you're spot. On it's Also otani hits a ball a
(42:27):
million Miles day that's also on the. Calendar we should
have known that was coming against The White, sox but
Certainly showy made that to be the case just a
short time. Ago As justin reminded me as the segment,
began it was just it was. Perfect and THEN i
got the heads, up you, KNOW, jp O'tanni, homer the
ball might land in your lap In michigan when you're
(42:47):
doing the. Segment so it was a good heads. Up
it was exactly, right and and the ball landed out
down in the backyard here where all set.
Speaker 1 (42:54):
SEE i liked. That in ten years are going to be, saying,
oh look at show Hey otani day instead Of Bobby benia,
day The dodge paying thirty eight million dollars a year at,
LEAST i meant it's one, point you, know one nine
million dollars.
Speaker 5 (43:04):
Today it's all a how you know what You're you're exactly,
right they'll be and my Colleague Steve phillips will love
that that it's no longer going to be The Bobby bonia,
day that it's that it's going to be the.
Speaker 4 (43:16):
Day.
Speaker 5 (43:17):
Uh, yeah that's that's a great. Point we still haven't
quite figured out exactly the various tax jurisdictions on that
one based on where show is living in fifty years
when he's still collecting the, Money but we we will
leave that to other to other other jurisdictions on that
(43:37):
question as it goes.
Speaker 2 (43:38):
Forward, no thank, You John.
Speaker 1 (43:39):
PAUL i appreciate that with great.
Speaker 3 (43:41):
Utility every YEAR jp trying to explain why it all made,
sense and people just give me that glazed overlooks like shut,
up he's getting paid and hasn't played.
Speaker 5 (43:50):
Years it made it probably made decent sense at the,
time uh to someone at, least and and here he.
Is it. Is it is fascinating though that it, Basically
bunia had a really good. Career there was a period
of time there where he was he wasn't, bonds but
he was, close and he was a really good. Player and,
(44:13):
yeah but with The, METS i listen on some, level
some of The mets on some. Level this this does
keep his name alive for the modern. FAN i just
hope that it doesn't trivialize too much what WAS i
would describe as objectively a pretty good.
Speaker 1 (44:31):
Career all, right now we'll move on to other big
things in. Sport BUT i want to say this year
while we're finishing on The. METS a couple of times a,
YEAR i call on you, to, uh you, know because you, said,
hey IF i have something to say constructive. Advice because
your former Roommate David stearns one of your best. Friends
you talked him all the, time and he runs The.
Mets SO i have one THING i want you to
pass along.
Speaker 2 (44:49):
To All, right it's very. Important he's very.
Speaker 1 (44:51):
Important right, now Bring grimace. Back we Need. Grimace what
is he waiting? For grimmaz has to throw out the
first pitch. Again we've lost thirteen or. Fifteen we Need grimace.
Speaker 4 (45:03):
Back.
Speaker 5 (45:03):
Grimace we can Do i'm glad that you did not
say anything about the job security Of Carlos mendoza because
this is not his. Fault, okay this IS i was
actually speaking earlier today with a dear friend of mine
about The, mets and he said he was asking. Me
he didn't quite ask me the same thing you just asked,
(45:24):
me but similar similar woe is? Us AND i basically,
said when your pitching staff gets hurt at the same,
time it's not going to be. Pretty and it's not
pretty right now for, Them so bring Back. Grimace, yes
that's an easy. ONE i don't think they should make
any change to the coaching. STAFF i do think they
(45:45):
should try to trade for someone Like Adrian houser with
The White, sox your very Owned Chicago White. Sox, actually
the two of you can probably make that trade happen
right now before the end of the Second White sox
for The mets to go back to one of his
former teams and resuscitate that. Situation but Uh eda Mon
markeez with The, rockies they need, help they should get.
Speaker 3 (46:06):
It i'll Let sternsy know it's funny Because jason was just,
SAYING i don't Think jacob De gram would go.
Speaker 2 (46:11):
Back.
Speaker 5 (46:14):
WOW i hadn't even thought of that as being a.
Speaker 3 (46:17):
Possibility we were just throwing names out of here AT.
Speaker 2 (46:22):
JP i don't.
Speaker 5 (46:25):
Think, so just because AGAIN i love what de gram
has done this year for The rangers. There while they
may move some, PLAYERS i don't Think jake's gonna be
one of. Them it's a big time, contract as you both.
Know and and for someone who has had injuries in the,
PAST i cannot Imagine jacob mcgramm would want to go
back and uh and just sort of uh sip from
(46:48):
the fountain of what is right now a very injured pitching.
STAFF i think he wants to keep his. Distance he
probably feels quite comfortable right now In, Arlington.
Speaker 1 (46:56):
Texas all right, now speaking Of New york, Teams John, Paul, yes,
okay but The, yankees, boy you watch. Them it looked
like they were going to run away with The Al,
east and suddenly they've hit the. Skids they've lost two
more in a, row and now Suddenly toronto And Tampa
bay were kind of just hanging around five. Hundred they're
a game, in a game and a half. Out what's
your level of concern scale of one to ten for The.
Speaker 5 (47:16):
Yankees i'm at about a, seven And i'm not a
VERY i tend to not be a reactionary person when
it comes to baseball. Slumps BUT i look at this
team and, say the things that made them? Special And
judge is Obviously, Judge he's in his own. Category Jazz
(47:38):
chisholm has actually played pretty well for, Them but the
things that make them? Special you look around their, lineup
where do they have true superstar separating talent on that.
Team Judge goldsmith's had a great, Year jazz went, healthy
has been really, good but they've GOT i think where
(48:00):
it's it's someone in the normal, range average range of.
Production and now and now the bill is coming, DUE
i think for not Having Garrett, cole the fifth spot
of the ROTATION i think is a bit of a.
Concern the fourth spot is a. Concern the bullpen is a.
Concern and you're you're seeing now even When judge goes
(48:21):
through a period of time where where he's just good
as opposed to the best player in the, world they're
they're really. Vulnerable there's No sodo there. Anymore and And
stanton of course is still just still working his way.
Back Ben rice has cooled off since the start of the.
Season They're they're still a good, team but they're not
(48:43):
a great team and and they don't have even the
balance of a team Like detroit Or. Houston and, man
this momentum that The jays are building huge Win today
On Canada, day the crowd was rocking At George springer
A Grand. Slam. Uh If i'm The yankees, Again i'm
not panicking and all of a, Sudden i'm gonna miss
(49:04):
the playoffs, because after, all, guys it is The America
league at twenty twenty. Five BUT i think the chance is,
real real that either The rays or The jays will pass,
them and honestly could happen before they also Break.
Speaker 3 (49:18):
Green Turklesen carpenter and obviously school ball on the. Mound
how did The tigers keep their edge with nothing to play.
Speaker 2 (49:26):
For in that division for the next three. Months, Well i'll.
Speaker 5 (49:31):
Talk About mom about, this, okay because she's gonna, Say,
johnny you gotta keep it, going get you gotta keep them.
Hungry SO i do think playing for home field advantage is.
Significant and the other thing that is probably even more
significant than the homefield advantage piece is this group really
does like playing, together and there's a lot of young
(49:54):
guys who are in similar. Positions some of, them actually
a lot of them are still trying to earn their
first major payday in this, sport and SO i think there's,
enough there's enough hunger. There and then that's Where i'm
a believer that while people might, say, oh this is
just the start of The, tigers win. Now, listen their
farm systems, excellent mcgonagall's, Elite clark's, elite the guy guys
(50:17):
in the minor leagues that are really really. Good But
i've always said, this just when you think that it's
the start of your, window you better win right, now
because there's a really unique chemistry to this team THAT
i think is largely predicated on the fact that a
lot of their guys are still young and hungry and
are still trying to make their way and make their
money in this. Game and that's actually a pretty powerful.
(50:38):
Thing it's worked well for The brewers for a. While
it's kind of been the ethos of The rays for
most of the last decade and a, half and they've
had a lot of success during that period of. Time
The guardians have had varying levels of that vibe at different.
Points SO i think it's a very healthy thing to
have as a, team and they seem to really have.
It they like playing. Together Aj insch is maybe the
(51:00):
manager of the year this. Year but it's been a
fun team to watch because they're not dependent on one.
Superstar it's it's maybe again the opposite of The. Yankees
it's a really good one through, nine AND i think
that's the biggest reason why they've got a comfortable lead right.
Now in The Big ten of baseball is The Midwest,
division of, course as we like to call The American League.
Speaker 1 (51:21):
Central SO i ask you, this now we've seen three
months of. Baseball we have three months of baseball to.
Go it's pretty easy to See tigers are the best
team in The American. League dodgers are the best team
in The National. League if they played a best of
seven right, now if they played the best of seven right,
Now Dodgers, tigers who do you have? Winning and you
got to be, truthful BECAUSE i know your dad's gonna
(51:42):
call you after this to go you didn't pick The.
Tigers so seven game series right? Now Dodgers, tigers who
Wins detroit And?
Speaker 5 (51:51):
Detroit the Reason i'm Saying detroit is IS i right?
NOW i trust The tigers pitching depth in terms of,
again what it's going to look, like not just, now
but in the later part Of, october based on all
that we have. Seen who do feel more comfortable about
(52:12):
staying healthy and staying consistent as a staff from from
now until the end Of. October The tiger staff or
The dodgers, STAFF i would say The tiger.
Speaker 4 (52:22):
Staff.
Speaker 5 (52:23):
Now, offensively there's Obviously otani And freeman are in another
world and so and, honestly by the, way so is Will.
Smith this, season he might win the batting title as a,
catcher which is really hard to. Do but you, Know
mookie's had a bit of a tough. YEAR i just
think that the way that you look at this From detroit's,
(52:44):
perspective it's a it's a lineup that balance is right
and left very very. Well they're able to chase slip
the tune advantages here and. There, again The, dodgers they
beat The eighties in five games last. YEAR i think
that series was closer than, that AND i just think
maybe they're just a tick more vulnerable this. Year The
(53:04):
dodgers are than they were a year ago based on
just the ongoing pitching questions That i've. Got so does
that depend a little bit on WHERE i? Live MAYBE
i see The tigers a. LOT i like their, team
That they've got a, really really nice looking, Team So
i'm gonna believe in them until someone tells me.
Speaker 3 (53:20):
Otherwise so we still got a couple of weeks before
we get past The All star break and towards that trade.
Speaker 2 (53:25):
DEADLINE. Jp but how.
Speaker 3 (53:27):
Much movement are you, Anticipating like how much anxiousness do
we have a month?
Speaker 1 (53:32):
Out?
Speaker 5 (53:32):
YEAH i think it's it's still it's still. Developing you.
KNOW i was told recently that it's quite quiet in
terms of THE gm level of actual negotiations on trades
that could. Happen AND i think it's because there's a
lot of teams that are still figuring out who they.
ARE i do think that'll, change probably as we emerge
(53:53):
from The All star. Break by then the draft will be,
over and teams like The orioles, honestly a team like
The Red, SOX i, mean you, can't they can't fool anybody.
Here they should be, sellers AND i suspect that they'll
move towards potentially doing. THAT i was told The rockies
are all of a sudden more willing to actually move
(54:15):
their guys than they've been in a. While SO i
think that the chess pieces are still getting to be.
Formulated but, hey when you're at when It's july, one
it's on thirty days the, Deadline SO i do think
that it is no longer early and we'll start HEARING
i think a bit more about where these moves could
(54:36):
potentially happen as we get towards probably the middle of the.
Speaker 2 (54:38):
Month he's On.
Speaker 1 (54:39):
Twitter At John. Morosi that is At John. Morosse you
check them out ON Mlb. Network what game you got this?

On Alma moto there in The Great City. Chicago let me.

right nothing.
Speaker 3 (55:06):

couple of local, establishments all, right AND i would love.
Speaker 5 (55:12):

Head that is a legit Bobble.

couple of, years so you got to keep the set.

Speaker 5 (57:02):
