Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the best of the Jason Smith on Fox
Sports Radio yesterday. The Jets lose to the Patriots and
maybe they didn't have to. After Austin's a faerie and
Jenkins catches a touchdown pass in the fourth quarter. He

(00:21):
goes over the pylon, but after reviewing the play, the
officials ruled that he bobbled the football in the act
of running going out over the pylon, and so it
was a touchback. The Patriots get the football, they're able
to hold on and win and beat the Jets by
a touchdown. Not that the Jets would have won the game.

(00:44):
Not they would have won. But this is why this
call was so bad. And today watching the officials back
it up and say this is absolutely the right call,
of course had to be made. Meanwhile, Mike Terra, Dean Blandino,
everybody else, this is a horrendous call. It was a
horrendous call because the way the officials described why they

(01:05):
overruled it, nothing was right about it. Okay, the two
biggest things that we saw surrounding the Safarian Jenkins catch.
Number one, the catch was made, he was a runner,
he bobbled the ball and he didn't reclaim it. And
go to the ground with it, which is false because yes,

(01:26):
he caught the ball. He's running, Malcolm Butler pops it
out a little bit and he loses it in his
grasp for a second. But you watch the replay and
you can tell Safarian Jenkins catches the football, back has
it before he hits the goal line, and then he
his body goes over the goal line. Never mind whether
it's the football. You know now they you know, they
didn't even look to see if the football was over

(01:47):
because if the football is not over the goal line,
it's the Jets football at the one yard line, and
then maybe you know, they have to figure out what
to do on the on the next play. But so
forget that part it he gets it, he read ains
control of it before he hits the goal line. So
that's the first part that's out that that I can't
believe that they didn't look at. Secondly, secondly, to say

(02:08):
there was overwhelming evidence to overturn the call in the
fields a touchdown is ridiculous. But that's the part of it.
That's the problem that's I mean, there's no way you
could tell me you had overwhelming evidence when they said
the angles they had were the television angles. Okay, I
would tell really you had enough to overturn it. I
mean the Patriots were and you talk about conspiracy theory.
So Farrye and Jenkins goes down and three Patriots players

(02:30):
are screaming at the official. He bobbled, he bobbled. I'm like, really, boy,
that's really fast to go from oh it's a touchdown.
He's Bobby bobbled the football when how many guys know
that he did? Only Malcolm Butler did because he was
the one who put his to put his hand in,
he had the football. You can't tell me without a
shadow of a doubt or that it was enough to
overrule it. This was the This was the league doubling

(02:50):
down and saying, you know what, this has been what
it is, and it's screwed over a lot of teams,
so we're gonna continue screwing over teams. Even though this,
even if you say, was it a correct interpretation of
the rule, it was still a touchdown. Safarie and Jenkins
had it, had control of it again before he hit
the goal line, But for some reason the NFL ruled
and the you know the officialings are today. Al Riveron

(03:11):
said no, no, no, He absolutely, uh, you know, bobbled
it going over and that, and that's the call. I
feel like it was just no matter what we are
going to say that it was, it was a fumble.
We're gonna say that he fumbled it through the end
zone no matter what it was, because that's the way
we've been calling it. So we're sticking with it, no
matter what was the right call. Stop, I will key
your car and then I'm gonna flatten your tires. Maybe
I'll flatten your tires and key your car. But if

(03:33):
that now happens, now you're going to jail. I'm not
going to You know what that means. You know what
that means? That means? What does that mean? He goes
to jail? What does that mean? Alex? He's very excit. Wait,
that's what happens if I'm not here? Is that what happens?
That what happens to you there? That's what happens. I

(03:54):
was reading for the intro to my my show and
said and said, we got is that really from oz
or what happens? Larry? This is what happens. I'm watching
this reef. Wow. That escalated quickly. He's got it, He's
got it. You look at Harmon does just a tremendous job,
just a fantastics look glorious on the plane he did,

(04:17):
didn't he He was really ted stup and ready to
make a play. But you look at it going through
the the overturning it. If they'd ruled it on the field, fine, okay,
they caught the bobble wherever they were in terms of
their vantage point, then then fine. But the overturning saying

(04:39):
that you have irrefutable evidence this is it. And that's
the part that fails, the smell test in every which way,
shape and form. I mean that that was a load
of crap. That was a load of crap that they say, oh,
it was easy to overturn. And the fact that they
said it was easy to overturn it was clear and obvious.
It wasn't. This is just this is what we're doing,

(04:59):
and this is how been calling it. So even when
it's agreed, just we're gonna say clear and obvious. You know,
it's it's it's you know, the emperor having no clothes
and people say, I don't want to say it. No,
the upper clothes look great, the upper has gotten up closing. No,
they look great. It looks, oh, it looks phenomenal. He's
got the threads look great, and the purple, he's got
the king dot. But but here's in terms of the

(05:21):
rolling over why they could say he didn't have full
control is that as he goes down balls in the
left arm, he does the full roll and you see
it loose. And then when he comes back up and
finishes the move to the ground, balls changed all the
way to the right. So did he control did he
bobble it? I've watched up a thousand times, comes out,

(05:41):
and he comes out, but you can't tell me. But
you can't tell me that definitively grabs it and controls
it all the way through. But you can't tell me
he didn't. So how can you tell me? But that's
that's what That's what I'm saying in the second and overturning.
But I see where the logic is in terms of
you're not sure where the ball is. I just don't
know about returning it. You guys, play any other team

(06:03):
you win that game. It was the Patriot. They bought
that call Tuesday last week? Are you kidding? Did they
not earn your respect once? When they finally and they're
really gonna go to a Belichick and explain to him
that they lost the game. No, of course they're gonna
get the Patriots the damn win. But they suspended Tom Brady.
I thought that was enough to finally shut you guys

(06:24):
up with your damn conspiracy. And and then Tom Brady
was in the officials huddle when they're making a call
in the fourth quarter. I mean really, really, as far
as yesterday, quarterback has the right to go over and
ask for the explanation. You see that all the time.
It's not just Brady, but it was while they were
making the quality were talking about to walk into the huddle,

(06:46):
they could tell him to beat it. That's okay. No,
how about all the defensive pass interference and holding calls
that never were I mean, there should have been three
yards of penalties in that game. You guys would wear
and him like a cap. Oh my god, what what did?
It wasn't enough, obviously, because Gronkowski still made Jamal Adams
look like the seventh round draft pick because he's because

(07:09):
you put a body on Gronk. Not complaining about but
they did most plays that we didn't put the right
one on. We didn't he was wearing them like a
cheap suits. Look, I'll be honest and he loves cheap suits,
especially swimsuits number one. All right there, things were great
until McCown threw that pick at the end of the
first half. That was that might be the beginning of

(07:31):
the point where I go the Jet season has hit
its high point. That was maybe the bursting of the
balloon because instead of getting a field goal there and
going up seventeen seven, instead they throws the pick right
before halftime. The Patriots get a touchdown and we go
and tied fourteen fourteen. So that was that was a
huge swing right there. McCown missed a wide open Traveris
Cadet on the final play of the game, wide open

(07:52):
at the thirty yard line, all by himself. But that
where where there would at a rhythm this when Lamar
Jackson is making that plane and he's gonna tuck it
and run it. So it doesn't matter that they just
killed you that far off your Syracuse You no, no,
no to. Did you realize it could have been my
greatest weekend of football ever. Seriously understand lion. On Friday

(08:15):
and the Jets, the horrible Jets beat Clemson. Would you stop?
This is day four of me enjoying my glory. That
would have been a phenomenal week. Not that we would
have won, but I'd like to see that call go
the right way. Which was the right call? Just for giggles,
How would you have celebrated a Jets win? Oh my god,
I'd still be drunk. Yeah, but regardless of your week,

(08:37):
would have taken a slight tank big time once the
Nicks start not I know, I'd have lived on this
for Phil. Anybody raised their hand and say it doesn't
It seemed too soon for the NBA and he's starting
miss mellow something. You have no idea how much you're
gonna miss Mellow? All right? First of all, Phil, go
back to sleep. No, it's opening nights tomorrow, all right,

(08:58):
very good. Secondly, I'm not gonna miss mellow when Porzingis
is now getting seven extra shots a game and suddenly
he's going to be a twenty eight and twelve guy.
So I'm not gonna miss that. Watch the Knicks sneak
into contention for the playoffs this year. You watch you
watch at eight seeds in sight celebrating the East. That

(09:20):
was a horrendous call. On Austin Safari and Jenkins. I
believe Mike Prayer and Dean Blandino because you know what,
they have no dog in the fight. They don't have
to be beholden to anybody. But the NFL's got to
back each other up. And that's exactly what they did.
It's that's what Veron did today. It's what they all
did yesterday. Not a pool reporter after the game. Absolutely
is a right call, the right call, the right and
they just explained. I felt that no matter what was

(09:43):
gonna happen, Safari and Jenkins could have bobbled it, held
it and walked into the end zone, they still would
have said, Oh, he didn't really complete the play because
then he threw the ball to the referee or into
the stands, and at didn't complete the touchdown. I don't
like to see it called. It's not your fault, buddy,
It's not your fault. Be sure to catch live editions

(10:04):
e Stern eight pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and
the I Heart Radio app. Monday Night, football is in
the books. The Tennessee Titans and I gotta say a
gutty performance out of Marcus Mariotta who was maybe had
se goes for three and six through the air. The
Titans maybe righting the ship a little bit. They beat

(10:27):
the Colts thirty two, joining us down the hotline more
in this game and all the other big stories throughout
the NFL. NFL on Fox Inside are extraordinaire. Jay Glazer jell,
what's happening? Good mante Hey, you know, look the thing
watching the game tonight, you can easily tell Mariota still
was dinged up, and you know, you can question should

(10:47):
he be out there? She not? But that was some
kind of gutsy performance out of him tonight. I mean
able to put the points on the board he did tonight.
Dan Well also show them also is that even when
his wheels aren't working like that, they will rely on
his arm. And he could quarterback as well. It's not
just you know, he's not just an athlete out there
playing the position. He is a complete quarterback. Well, we

(11:08):
we look at the other thing and arrival from Eric Decker,
finally seeing you, Jason exclaimed by on the field, he goes, wait,
Eric Decker caught a pass. They caught seven of them,
but I mean that changing the complexion. I mean, because
we've seen Delaney Walker and we've seen some of Richard Matthews.
Suddenly other players starting to step up make life a

(11:29):
lot easier from Mariota as he returns. Yeah, you know,
look the Tennessee Times one of these teams that we're
gonna kind of slowly, I think people forgot about and
they're gonna creep up because they got a bunch of
those kind of grinders, you know, whether it's Deck or
Delane or the two running backs back there. And you know,
they put some good horses on defense also, but they're
not a flashy team. They're just teamed there kind of

(11:50):
you know, all of a sudden, man there, they just
keep either their head by a lot or they just
keep creeping Matt creeping, Matt creeping back. You're like, this
team is like a real team you're got to do with.
On the other side of the coin, we have the
Colts lose to Kobe Brissette plays again, and Andrew Luck
it's the when's he gonna play? When's he gonna play?
The latest we're hearing is that he has no timetable

(12:10):
but hopes to play this year. What do you hear
in Jay When it comes to Andrew Luck. What I
was told a couple weeks ago was the target was
a Monday night game. He got the Jacksonville Jaguars UM
and the sin with Luck was, you know, he had
to go actually down to a specialist and almost like
re learn his throwing motion. That was at the start

(12:30):
of the season, and you know, he was getting his
arm strength back, but he wasn't doing it with the
same motion. Then he got his arm, then he got
the motion back, and then he had his strengthen his
arm again with the right motion back, and then I
had to get him out there and practice with everybody,
gets some timing down, and that's where he's at right at.
His arm still isn't what it was before the surgery.
He still has to get the timing down. With his
teammates and the way he presents playing right now, they're like,

(12:52):
you know what, let's just kind of slow a role.
You know, he definitely presents gives them I think a
pretty interesting um dynamic there because of what he could
do with as a double threat. But it's at this
point I think they're looking at saying let's just be
overly constious. Yere, let's stop from him out there having
a labor him. That's ah, you know, that's a serious injury.

(13:14):
Everybody's different. You know, Drew Brees had it and he
was able to come back to next season there, but
there's guys like Tony Bert tell you who wasn't able
to come back really from his Jordan Lane room and
it's uh, it acts differently with everybody, especially when your
quarterback and it affects your throwing motion. Fox Sports Radio

work they're doing at Vets and Players dot Org. Follow
him on Twitter at Jay Glazer. It's our body from
the NFL on Fox Jay Glazer and story you broke

(13:55):
one that sent ripples through the league yesterday, j the
collar bone injury to Aaron Rodgers now facing surgery, likely
done for the year, and Mike McCarthy already having questions
being asked about, well, what do they do at quarterback
instead of well what do they have at quarterback? Well,
first of all, as far as the collar bone goes,

(14:16):
you know, it depends what it is. And obviously when
you're gonna have surgery that that usually means they have
to go in and played it. And when it's a quarterback,
that's a whole different ball game there. Um, And this
is the second one. Also, you're you're really hoping there's
some guys with their collar bones. If they don't just
place it's just a crack and there, they could come
back a lot sooner rather than later. But it's obviously not.

(14:38):
The kids are there because the Packers and Alce right away,
you know, him returning to the season is is is questionable. Um,
you know, and as far as bred Hunt was concerned, Look,
you know, McCarthy said, hey, we've invested in this guy,
and you look at everybody else they're also on the laster.
The team have is very deep with skill position players

(15:00):
or with the martoas Pennett Rehiver's over there. Um, you
got now two running backs that are very effective. Just
they're gonna have to step up. Everybody else is gonna
have to step up and not just always rely on
the magic of Aaron Rodgers playing the simple. That's their
only choice. Jay, the other big story coming off of
Sunday and this one near and dear to my heart
Austin Seferian Jenkins. I look, I don't know what to

(15:22):
say at this point. When he comes to well Jets fan,
he's got a tattoo on his calf. Jack, I'm like,
how was that? Where did that story coming from? You
can break that one to Jake. That one's all you
since I was four years old, and you know that
was I watched that yesterday. I'm saying to myself, he
all right, the ball came out, but he he had it,

(15:42):
and I don't it you're gonna ask me. I don't get.
I don't care how much. I don't get. Dude, you
could honestly, you could complete a pass in front of
me at a runner receiver could run ten yards and
I'm still I'm not sure if they're gonna call it
a complete a pass. I got no idea, I got
no clue. S I think I think I'll figure out

(16:07):
women before I'll figure out what to catch you. Wait, well,
that that well, that would be your biggest coop. Ever,
I don't know anything. I'm definitely from Mars and holds
me when you know women Mars and Venus thing, no doubt. No.
But here's how you figure out who the right one is.
You ask her what's a catch in the NFL, and
if something, tell you right, that's the one that's that's

(16:29):
saying that my prayer, my dream woman. Wait, let me
go to t MC and spread that one. Hang on
a second. Wow, that that really took a left turn
on me in a hurry. Uh So Teddy Bridge started
with Austin Seferian Jenkins. It's no, well, no, hey, it's
it's true. I mean Jason, I come in here, he's
foaming at the mouth. Friday, I missed the show. I

(16:49):
took a night off, so I missed the Syracuse win,
so I didn't get to watch him dance around the studio. There.
I come back in, he's bouncing off the walls and
trying to break our TVs because he's still mad about
that call. So you know, I get the highs and
lows with this guy. Uh. Likewise, we look at the Vikings.
You know, a division now now is up for grabs
right the north and Teddy Bridgewater gets cleared for practice

(17:12):
and running with case Keenan. Sam Bradford looked like he
was laboring before he was removed from the game last week.
Any chance we see Bridgewater back on the field. Yeah,
that's incredible because when it first happened, um and they
first got the surgery, they they were pretty strong doubt
that he would returned. Obviously wouldn't return last year. But

(17:33):
we're pretty strong dad he returned this year. And when
I went out there to training camp and I saw
what he was doing out there, I'm like, oh my god,
how is he doing all this? And they're even like,
we have no idea. He's so far out of schedule.
We can't believe he's doing some the stuff he's doing.
So yesterday I reported on the show that he was
in the low see a doctor today and they were
respectingly a cleared and and they're gonna activate him and

(17:53):
he could play as soon as three or four weeks.
He was like, it was so far ahead of schedule.
Was so bizarre to think about a year ago. I'm
in a year ago, you literally you would it would
be a better chance we knew what the Cats was
a year ago that we would think that Teddy Bridge
word would play this year. So man, he is a gangster.
Good for him, and you know, talk about a guy

(18:13):
who did everything he possibly could and more to make
sure he can come back. And that's why the team
loved him so much. That's why there were guys in tears,
Mike zimmlars and tears when Teddy bridge Ward went down
last year because he definitely has that extra gear behind
the rib cage that you're hoping for from a quarterback.

(18:34):
All right, now, lastly, and you brought up Syracuse, Thank
you very much, my car. I didn't mean to do it.
You know you'd keep talking about it. Ja doesn't care
about I think Jake cares about what I'm gonna say, Well,
it's about him losing an m m A. But last night,
Justin Pugh getting a lot of credit for keeping von
Miller off of Eli Manning's back, the Giant's offensive line
doing a great job. A big article on him in

(18:54):
Men's Fitness today about how Justin Pugh trains, and you
tweeted back, Yeah, here's how Justin pew trains two years
have been beating my ass in m m A. It's
exactly right, man, it was you know, you know Justin
was was a guy, you know, the first month. You know,
whenever you get a guy in there, we're usually like, all, right,

(19:17):
ten percent of guys out there, they're just gangsters. Ten
percent there's nothing we could do with him. They're just
there's nothing, they just got no fight in them. And
eight percent and we couldn't go either way. But usually
that you know, first week or two we make a
pretty quick quick judgment um and our guys it's Randy
Ken towards Chuck lidell Is, you know, some good ones
in there. It's got me those guys. You know, we

(19:38):
got some good ones who were you know, trusting them
and justin you know, early on, we just how to
get him to know it was about to fight and
not the wins of the losses. And it was like, kid,
of your honor to fight. It's your honor, to fight hurt,
it's your honor even to lose, and find that guy
who could beat you so you can get better. And
once he picked that up, he became like in our

(20:01):
Jim unstoppable, he really was, and he was became one
of the hardest guys roughly picked up all the hand
fighting he was looking last year or two years ago
after we started training with him. He was looking for
on the schedule the best guys, when do I get
to play against? So when do I gets played against
Aaron Donald? He completely changed like he got the fighter spirit,
the fighter mindset as well as any player I've ever seen.

(20:23):
Fallm on Twitter at Jay Glazer, that is at Jay
Glazer NFL Insider for Fox, and check out the website
Bets and Players dot Org. Bets and Players dot Org.
Some great stuff Jay's got going on there as always, Buddy,
thanks so much. Be good, we'll talk to you. J
J figured. I mean, really, there's worse ways to figure
out who the woman is for you. Then, hey, what's

(20:44):
a catch in the NFL. That's a good line. That's
that's your opener. What's the catch? And then she says, oh,
des is was a catch, Anden you saw it get
out and he said, Austin's a fairy and Jenkins got
rob Let's get married. I mean that's how it goes,
just like that. That's easy. Just let a find you
a preacher and trace Atkins songs and away you go.
Or you get someone who say, well, the Calvin Johnson

(21:04):
play was a catch. He did go to the ground.
The des play was not because he actually did. It's
a Farie and Jenkins. But but you pull out a
little pocket projector and find a wall shand look, let's
break down these plays right now. She goes, I'm gonna
ge everybody in the restaurant to turn the lights off
so I can just put this up on the wall
right here. There you go, There you go. There's my
power point presentation. You see where the ball is right here.

(21:24):
It's got to tell a straighter in the whole nine yards.
I'm pulling a ring out of my pocket. Go. This
is for you. I hope it fits. If all he
held onto the ball, you know, Frostberg, I really flatten
your tires and then key your car. But it was
scripts the receiver after all. That's he had one job.
But they was drifting from one arm to the other.
How did it get The guy had one job? Catch

(21:47):
the damn ball. I'm gonna pour Harmon's coffee in your
gas tank. Good luck driving home. I think that coffee,
which is extra caffeinated. Yeah, that a brilliant addition. The
shell and a he in addition here to the guy
go Fox Sports Radio Studios. I think that would do
us a lot of good. Be sure to catch live
editions of The Jason Smith Show weeknights at eleven pm

(22:08):
Eastern eight pm Pacific. Aaron Rodgers likely done, possibly for
the season. Most likely for the season, though he could
come back late after suffering a broken collar bone yesterday.
And yes, is Green Bay screwed without him? Yeah? You know,
suddenly Brenhunley is gonna commit He's not. Yes, of course
they're screwed without him. Well, they're also screwed without him

(22:30):
because the two starting tackles can't stay on the field
for more than half a game at a time. And
you know, and hopefully that that really adorable dog that
does the commercial with him, you know, is able to
help him, like get back to health. He's a recovery dog,
reap dog or or the dog says, why don't you bone?

(22:50):
And then he gets the dog collar bone. And then
Aaron Rodgers throwing touchdowns and he's barking like a dog
after Why is Rogers doing that? I don't know. He
must have a dog collarbone in him. One are you high?
I mean, think about that? Did you really just ask him? Not?

(23:10):
Syracuse one Friday night deep cleps of course, he's tied
nine day four. That would have gone just day four.
I went to a rock concert. I didn't get that.
But what do I say the seven biggest stars? The

(23:31):
NFL has combination of players and teams, the biggest star things.
What does the NFL promote that everybody has interest in?
Three of the seven stars are now done for the
season and it's week six. Okay, what do I say?
The stars are Aaron Rodgers, Odell Beckham Jr. J. J. Watt.

(23:52):
They're all done basically for the entire year. Cam Newton,
and then the three high profile teams, the Cowboys, the Patriots,
and the Steelers. The Cowboys stink, but there's still a
big draw. You've seen the games that are most highly
rated across the NFL this year have the Cowboys, and
because there's that kind of interest, Cowboys, Patriots, Steelers, Cam Newton.

(24:13):
Those are the four stars the NFL has left. They
have lost half of their star power and for a league.
And this is why this is a big deal because
for the longest time, getting stars it was organic by
the NFL. New guys would just show up every year.
Mitchell Robinsky would be a star. But now the NBA

(24:34):
has shown us that we will shove stars down your
throat until you realize and believe that they are stars.
And this is why the NBA continues to do really well.
And obviously the injury aspect favors the NBA because guys
can stay healthier more in the NBA than the NFL.
But the NFL needs to manufacture more stars. Why are

(24:54):
Deshaun Watson and Leonard four Nette not absolute superstars right now?
They should be super start instead of saying, boy, these
guys are pretty good, they should be superstars. They've only
played four or five games, but they've been phenomenal. Houston
and Jacksonville doesn't put it's NFL Rogers's green Bay. Yeah,
but you're talking about a long body of work. For
a few years, he was the backup to Brett farve Be.

(25:17):
He was the guy that was left in the green
room until he was a couple of years into his career.
So now you've got a long body of work, and
I know we try to make stars immediately. And what
Watson starting to get the love right bit by bit,
the Warren Moon Jersey bit he did yesterday? He should
but everything should be What is he gonna do to
The problem is he was behind J. J. Watt. If

(25:38):
if we're gonna go and we're gonna pull someone now
that J. J. Watts hurt and he can't be shown
on television on every play, then now it becomes Deshaw Watson.
And for Leonard four Net still Jacksonville. It's only so
far you're gonna be able to push that. But it
doesn't matter where in the NFL, we'll find you well.
But again it's it's newness and people need to buy
into the team. And he's got to have more stand

(26:00):
because right his big time run that started that game
for Jacksonville. How quickly was that forgotten? Right? Because he
yeh finished with a strong game. But there were so
much else going on between the Rogers injury, the Austin
Safari and Jenkins play. Sorry, buddy, I couldn't go a second.
So we got that. There were so many other stories
that started working, Pittsburgh beating Kansas City and Alex Smith

(26:23):
looking like just a guy, the late hit from Mike
Mitchell that everybody's still wondering how big a fines coming.
I mean, there's there were a lot of storylines that
that Leonard four Nette run seems like three weeks ago.
The NFL is losing stars when they cannot lose them
because they don't create them like they used to. Be
sure to catch live editions of that Jason Smith Show
weeknights at eleven pm Eastern eight pm Pacific on Fox

(26:46):
Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio app. Karlin Kaepernick
has grabbed the headlines in the last twenty four hours
by announcing he is filing a suit against the National
Football League that they are clue ing to keep him
from playing. It is a grievance that he filed. And
the number one takeaway from this is that he's never

(27:09):
going to play in the NFL again if he's filed
a grievance against the league. But if you follow this
story at all the last day or so, and look,
there's many reasons and angles and things, you go, Kaepernick,
Is he black balled? Is he not? Is he? This?

(27:29):
The one thing that I can tell you is that
if you think Colin Kaepernick is black baled, and you
have to know what that means because everybody who says yes,
they're keeping them out there keeping them out, who's keeping
them out? Who's keeping him out? Being black baled and
and being kept out, which is what Colin Kaepernick is alleging,
is that there's a conspiracy to keep matterligue requires all

(27:49):
thirty two teams to get together and decide none of
us are going to sign Colin Kaepernick. That is not happening.
Proving something like this is almost impossible unless he has
some train of communication between teams that says we don't
sign him, we're not sign him. You heard from the commissioner,
they said, and that's not And how I know that

(28:10):
is this. If there was a conspiracy, an official conspiracy,
to keep Colin Kaepernick out of the NFL, we would
have heard about it by now. Because if there was
a fish, there's no way thirty two teams are going
to keep officially blackballing Colin Kaepernick out of the headlines,
because somebody would talk. If you're gonna keep Colin Kaepernick

(28:32):
out of the NFL, then it's got to be your owner,
your GM, your head coach. Other people are gonna find out.
Somebody would have blabbed, somebody would have said something by now.
Because Kaepernick has a lot of sympathizers, has a lot
of people that think he's being black balled and kept
out of the NFL that they believe, hey, he should
be in and the reason he's not as because teams

(28:53):
don't like his politics and all these reasons. And sure, individually,
do a few teams think that about him. Yeah, but
as far as a league wide conspiracy, that's not happening.
There's no way that is something that was discussed and
talked about. We would have said it and assistant coach
somebody would have said, hey, I got this email today.

(29:13):
I found out we're not hiring Kaepernick and the offensive
coordinator told me we're not hiring him. Nobody in the
league is hiring him. We would have known, because you
can't keep something that's that big conspiracy. When Colin Kaepernick
is a front page headline, you can't keep that a secret.
Now before you think thirty two teams are keeping them out,
just realized this. When the topic of Colin Kaepernick is

(29:35):
a quarterback comes up, how much the league is immediately
knocked out of the conversation because they have no interest
in a backup quarterback in Kaepernick because they're also at
a quarterback probably two thirds of the league. So now
you're talking about a third of the league and you're saying, okay,
so you're talking about ten teams maybe that could at
some point being shouldn't Colin Kaepernick three or four of

(29:56):
those teams you gotta take out right away because Okay,
he doesn't fit with what we do on offense. Maybe
you have two or three of those teams that go, oh,
we're a little nervous about what he brings because it's
not just politics with him. It's are we gonna wake
up one day and find out his girlfriend or somebody
else close to him is tweeting out, hey, our owner
is like a slave owner, which is what happened when
the Ravens were interested in him, Or we're gonna wake
up one day and find out Kaeptock's gonna tweet out

(30:18):
all Michael Vick, you're have Stockholm syndrome. When it comes
to the National Football League. You're sympathizing with them against me.
Teams are gonna go, yeah, you know, I don't know
about that, because it's not about just kneeling for the
national anthem. It's about more than that. He is a
wild card. So now you're talking about two or three
or four teams that maybe you're nervous about him because

(30:38):
of that. That's not being black balled. That's I'm sorry,
but it's not. When you throw around black balled and
kept out, you think it's his league wid thirty two
teams to talk, and that's simply not happening. Be sure
to catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show weeknights
at eleven pm Eastern eight pm Pacific. We thought we knew.
I said for certain A j Hinch is gonna go

(30:59):
with Dallas Hickle in Game four because Major League Baseball
managers don't ever want to lose leaving their best picture out.
That's one thing we've seen over the course of the
last couple of years since Buck show Walter left Zack
Britton in the bullpen and didn't bring him in when
he was the best reliever in baseball, and they wound
up losing that big game in the playoffs and getting eliminated.

(31:22):
Teams say, you know what, I'm bringing in my guy,
Like now you're seeing guys come in in the fifth
in Andrew Miller was coming into games last year for
the Indians in the top of the first inning with
one out, So guys were you know, guys were doing that.
And look at Joe Madden last night, where was Wade
Davis in the ninth inning. Why and Madden had to
dance and answer ten questions? He we were only gonna
have him, Hey, beverage, tax, beverage, tach hot route. That's

(31:46):
how do you get everybody in it in Chicago and
in Illinois fired up? Right now? We were only going
to have him for one inning, so take have him
get up to pitch and then send him back DOWNX.
He had thrown forty four pitch but it wasn't good enough.
Why wasn't Wade Davison when let John Lackey who it
took him eleven minutes to complete his at back to
Chris Taylor? Why would you let John Lackey pitch to

(32:06):
Justin Turner and still Joe Madden couldn't get past it?
And if they they lose in the NLCS, people will
point to that moment and say, why did he not
put Wade Davison? That was the series right there. Normally,
managers know what I'm gonna do was go with my
best guys. So I said, I'll tell you Dallas Kaikel
is gonna go in Game four because don't you want
in theory Kaikal? In Game four, Verlander in Game five

(32:30):
and then kikel again in Game seven. If you're gonna lose,
don't you want those two guys pitched three of the
four games. Well, not a J. Hinch. He was asked
a few minutes ago who was starters for Game four,
and he made his decision. He's a really good pitcher
and he's got really electrifying stuff, some of the best
stuff in the big leagues. So giving him a normal routine,
normal warm up, uh into the game. He's got a big,

(32:51):
big time breaking ball. The whole league knows it. He's
got a really good fastball. He had a really good
bullpen uh in between his last outing and this next
outing tomorrow. So I don't to remind all you guys.
He was an All Star to start the year, has
some of the best stuff in the big leagues, and
we believe in him. Lance mcculors will start for the Astros.
And boy, how much was A J. Hints just giving

(33:12):
everybody his resume. I want to tell you how good
he is. I want to tell you know best is
the r A was over four here, but here he
had a great, phenomenal lights out season. Though he had
a phenomenal first half in July and then in September,
missing time. He had seven appearances, thirty urn runs on

(33:34):
forty six hits in thirty one and two thirds. Okay,
so great first half, first half, three point oh five
e r A and a hundred and six strikeouts against walks,
phenomenal stuff, seven and two records, and had gotten it
done after the break, little used, little availability. But what

(33:57):
you did see was a disaster. Here's Lance mccullor's last
eight starts, his earn runs, earn runs five, four, six, five,
three two, But that's only in three innings. Five those
were his earn runs. And now here we go, here's

(34:18):
who's coming up for Game four. If this backfires, he'll
never make it out A J. Hinch will never make
it out of this because now, well then you get okay,
you got Dallas Kiko on another day's rest, but the
Yankees and even the series. Now they've even the series,
and you gave away a two games to non lead,
two very emotional, tightly pitched games, and you've given him away.

(34:38):
So the fact you're telling me, oh yeah, like I
felt like he's he's really like he's a used car
salesman trying to sell me on how good lance. He
was great, he was an All Star. Yeah, but you
know what, he's been terrible. He had three starts in September, alright,
he pitched thirteen innings and had ten earn runs. That's
not a big September. Then he had three innings when
he pitched in October eight against the Red Sox and

(34:59):
he gave up to runs. That's it. That's been mc
colors in the postseason. Now suddenly here's your biggest game
of the year, because every game is your next biggest
game of the year. I get you want to trust him,
a boy, that this is really something that can backfire
on you completely. And it doesn't matter if he gets
it right. If he gets it right and misses the
next one, people aren't gonna remember that. You know, you

(35:20):
gotta realize, I live in the real world when it
comes to what happens and what managers are on the
hook for and what people are gonna remember. You can
be right as a manager ten times in a row.
You can have the right guy coming up off the
bench to bat in a in a pinch hit situation,
hit a double off the wall. I had the right left, right,
and lefty matchup, but you just gotta be wrong once
and lose. And that's It's like being a defensive back

(35:41):
in the NFL. You can stop a guy for three
and a half quarters, give up a seventy yard touchdown
pass with four minutes to go, everybody's gonna say what
a bad game you had and how bad you are.
And now Agent has opened up the door to that.
If he loses with Dallas Kaikel, really your people gonna say,
should have pitch Lance, my colors, let me really think about,
are people really gonna go up? I knew that was
awful at the pitch Lance Colors, I would the one

(36:01):
thing I would ask in this whole process. Uh, And
certainly we'll watch it play out when we get Game four.
Rolling is where the leashes? Where's the dividing line to
where mcculler's doesn't have his stuff and he gets the
quick hook? Because I have to think that A. J.
Hinch has got a quick hook for him for Game

(36:24):
four again based on recent results and as much as
he tried to convince us and convince himself that he
was making the right move. Remember, he's got really good stuff,
some of the best stuff in Major League baseball, And
he had to tell us that three times in a
thirty second sound bite, homing that repetition was going to
convince us or hypnotize us to believe that fact. He's

(36:46):
like Emo tep Yes, he has best stuff in baseball.
He has a best He's been terrible. Like I said,
it could work out, but you have left yourself open
for fans to never forgive you if you're wrong about this. Well,
obviously if it goes south altogether, right, they lose tomorrow,
you still say, all right, well, we got the best

(37:07):
of three and let's go off and pacing. We were
the best American League team. Although it still sounds crazy
to call the Houston Astros an American League team, and
he still can't get used to it. I'm sorry it
doesn't because I still remember them representing the National League
and losing and getting swept by my White Sox in
two thousand five. I had to get that in while
we're at it, and pictures of Paul can Erico dance

(37:29):
in my head. No, it's not too soon. Just calm
down over there. But the idea being that you still
have the best of three and you're banking on the
fact that tygo with an extra day arrest is better
for your long term advancement, instead of fearing that, all right,
we get his pitch count up in a game four,

(37:51):
we still lose, and then maybe he's not available to
close things out if we should beat him in a
game seven. I think there's some of that psychology going
on in this process. Well, I'd like to think I'd
have my horse for games one, four and seven like
we did for all these years. But we just watched
in the last round, you know, slap fighting behind the
scenes of whether Strasburg was going to be available for

(38:13):
the game. So you never know what's going on between
front offices and the managerial spot. But it's gonna be
interesting to see exactly how much McCullers can give because
right now everybody on the edge of their seat with
the poison pens at the ready. Fox Sports Radio has
