Speaker 1 (00:29):
Greetings, Welcome inside, Happy Monday, Jason Smith Show with my
big friend Mike Harmon.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
Well dressed, hoboat.
Speaker 1 (00:39):

apply by September third. Learn more at UMGC dot edu. Well,
it's sort of poetic justice that you know here. I
am feeling good coming off the jets first game of
the preseason. They look great and all fast to the game.
Oh man, I got the replan NFL network right now,
everything went right and hey, don't forget happy anniversary, And
(01:22):
I'm like, uh, great, ten years ago today, IKN and
Polly broke Genosmith's jaw in practice over a dispute over
a plane ticket. So it's the yin and yang that
I'm getting right now.
Speaker 4 (01:33):
Maybe that was the punch that made him salty and
sad about his career where he still feels like everybody's
out to attack him.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
How about that?
Speaker 4 (01:41):
Uh maybe, but ten years ago, I mean, we probably
did that story a couple of times, probably had some.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
Did it extra quote, We did it all the entire night.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
We did it.
Speaker 4 (01:51):
No, no, no, But that's the joke, right, A lot
of random quotes about getting punched in the face that became.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
Drops for years later on.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
So here we are celebrating that and commemorating such a
momentous occasion.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
But you got the Jets and the Packers, two of
my favorite teams.
Speaker 4 (02:08):
Sarcasm bucket fea you like great right on the underneath
my my feed here.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
Yeah, green is great, Man, great is great.
Speaker 4 (02:15):
I'm from drinking for the money. I mean what is
a goal for the what? What was the bishop?
Speaker 3 (02:19):
Magic?
Speaker 1 (02:20):
Don wants to quote one? For the money to for
the show? Agree to get ready, now go cat go.
I think that's no. I was.
Speaker 4 (02:26):
I was kind of going down a different avenue. But
that'll work too. Okay, all right, just exactly, let's rock
around the clock tonight.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
But no, Look, seriously, I am incredibly happy over this
weekend because for all this stuff, right, for all the
talk we had, we met four hours of football and
all big breakdown of of what we saw this past
weekend in the NFL Week one, I am. I am.
I don't want to say back in because I've always
(02:56):
loved where things are going. But I'll tell you what.
One of the stories this weekend. You saw that when
Justin Fields ran for a touch it was Justin Field's
touchdown first drive for the Jets. How good he is? Okay,
Justin Fields was fine. Right. He's gonna throw the ball
to the middle of the field all the time tweek.
I don't think he's gonna throw one pass outside the
numbers because he can't complete him there. But everything is
in between the numbers. He's gonna have really good success
(03:18):
in the middle of the field. The Jets are gonna
have three guys with three hundred rushing attempts each this year,
including their quarterback right Brayleen Allen's he's kind of like
Derrick Henry the way as big and young as he is,
he makes Breise Hall look like just a guy. But
I will say this the one thing. You know, we
talk about winning the offseason.
Speaker 4 (03:37):
Yep, well you lost to the Bears, but yeah, yeah,
but you wait, but winning the offseason overall in general, Uh,
Jets got the right guy as their head coach.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
There is I mean, I know that it's been a
never ending, you know, circle and cycle of turnstile. But
you got a guy coming in who wanted to be there,
who you know, learned under Bill Parcells. And I watched
the Jets come in and they looked focused and ready
and prepared. First string guys, second string guys. They ran
a screen to Stone Smart for a touchdown that was
(04:09):
about as perfect as you possibly could have it. And
these are the backups to the backups that are doing
it right. All the culture he has put in there.
I am all in because I love Aaron Glenn. I
think when we look back history looks back, we say, hey,
I can't believe he wasn't more sought after in the offseason.
You watched him help build the culture with it with
the Lions, and I got it. I'll tell you this
this punt time next year or after this season, it's
(04:32):
gonna be WHOA. The Jets are really kind of building something,
maybe sort of like the Lions are like that, or
sort of like the Chargers went from year one to
year two with Harball. Like we're gonna be saying those
kinds of things because Aaron Glenn seems like you're not
gonna say anything like that. I'm telling you, I'm telling
you anything like that. I'm telling you they got the
right guy. Justin Fields may or may not be any good.
(04:53):
I'm with you on that. We only have one good receiver.
It doesn't matter. We're not gonna spend money on other
receivers when our quarterback can only throw to one guy.
No reason. I anybody out there they could run a
contest every week be the second third receivers for the Jets.
But overall, right now where I'm sitting, the Jets got
the right guy. I am all in on Aaron Glenn.
Speaker 4 (05:09):
Well, I mean I was here with you remember when
let's see, you went from Rex Ryan to Todd Bowles
and then it was Super Bowls and every quarterback that's
come in for the last decade. Do I name all
those guys that were gonna be all the different and
they were all gonna be legends one after another, including
the flag carrying man Aaron Rodgers himself.
Speaker 1 (05:30):
It was all gonna be great. No, there were super
Bowls lining up all over the place. Now.
Speaker 4 (05:35):
The only time you didn't really get thrilled, you gave
it a yay, was when Adam Gase got hired. I
had funds with him and that in the mass conferences
and todcos whatever. But then Robert Sala showed up. Hey, culture,
he knows what's going on. He was in San Francisco
and he was he helped build the culture.
Speaker 1 (05:52):
There and he what he did.
Speaker 4 (05:54):
Look what his defenses did. Look but no, no, no, no,
I repeat itself, this is what we're doing.
Speaker 1 (06:01):
I don't know. I already see the buy in. I
already see the attention he did want with him and everything.
They showed up for their first preseason game. It was
a business trip and they beat the Packers around the post.
There was nothing the Packers had nothing going on in
this game. The Jets were clearly where which I'll take
you back to all the last few years. Where why
(06:22):
are we so flat? Why are we flat the third
week in a row? Why is there no attention to detail?
Why are we still making these mistakes?
Speaker 3 (06:28):
Right?
Speaker 1 (06:29):
I don't see that With Aaron Glenn. I really think
I think they got they got the right guy, and
I've done fivers. We're gonna look back and say, Wow,
I'm really glad Aaron Glenn wanted that Jets job because
I mean, really, who else wants unless it's the only
chance we gonna get to coach in the NFL.
Speaker 4 (06:42):
So okay, I'm gonna take it, all right, fun Well,
it's always the possibility. You gotta get the first step.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
In the door.
Speaker 4 (06:48):
And with the number of coaching hires that are out
there every year, the time would have come.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
Right.
Speaker 4 (06:54):
We watched Ben Johnson and he waited and decided, all right,
the Bears are where I want to go, big market team.
They've got Caleb Williams. I can be the guy to
fix him, et cetera. For Aaron Glenn, the one thing
I will say, right, because you got to go back
to his playing career is that he played there, so
he's he's seen it right, he's been around. He wanted
(07:15):
to go back to Wood. He just I mean really,
that didn't scare him away, so he wanted to go back.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
I don't care why. I'm just glad he's here, right, Like,
I don't care why you're here. I don't care how
you got it. I'm just so glad that you're here.
Speaker 4 (07:28):
But the old rule of thumb, right, do something, even
even if it's wrong. Right, We go back and we
look at all the different things that were enacted by
government officials, some good, some bad, some ugly whatever. But
go back into you know when when FDR was running
a buck and you had to learn all of those
abbreviations for your tests in whatever in civics and history
(07:52):
and whatever else. And it was one thing after that
and that didn't work. Fine, rename it, retool it, put
it under this guy's purview, and he'll go, that's kind
of what you're doing with the Jets. I just want
to do something different. I want to even if that's
wrong too.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
I know I feel like I'm falling for it. But
they got the right guy and the tail pipe guy. Man,
they got the right Guy'm speaking of getting the right guy. Okay,
because now it's your turn, mister smarty pants, mister Helper.
I've been the guy against this regime the entire time.
Your fan base needs to chill the blank out man. Okay,
chill the Caleb Williams doesn't even play this weekend and
(08:29):
it's we gotta get rid of him. Look how good
Tyson Bagen is. Come on, man, your fan base is awful.
They are delusional and it doesn't really matter what happens
on the field. Again, if Caleb Williams had a bad
start and Beijing came in and was great, Like if
it was like JJ McCarthy and then you watch Sam
Howell come in, Okay, I understand it, but he didn't
even play. Okay, starters David play, but Beijing who plays
(08:52):
okay and has show him that hey as a backup,
he has been Okay, great, that's awesome. But it's like, oh,
look how good he is? All eyes all week and
was all like they're waiting for Caleb Williams to just suck,
And you guys gotta just chill the blank out man,
because the number one thing this is year one with
Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams. They are gonna get all
year to get it right. Okay, Williams went number one
(09:14):
in the draft a year ago. He's gonna get all
year to make this thing work. Now after this year,
if he stinks, could you I see it? Yeah? But
this year is all gonna be about Johnson and Caleb
Williams and can at work. And I'm telling you it's
gonna work. Johnson's a quarterback friendly coach. He is gonna
get the best out of Caleb Williams. If Caleb Williams
isn't a four thousand yard passer with thirty touchdowns, I
(09:36):
would be surprised. They have a lot of weapons on offense,
and they're gonna be able to use all of them.
And it may not be wins in law. They may
suddenly be all wealthy. They're gonna be eleven and seven,
but they may wind up being a five hundred team.
But their offense should put tons of points on the board.
But the fact is you don't even have hope for that.
Speaker 3 (09:53):
Now.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
It's like, oh, we really want do you guys really
want to put Tyson Bagen in the game. Ye, here's
the thing.
Speaker 3 (09:58):
Come on.
Speaker 1 (09:59):
First off, I want to go back.
Speaker 4 (10:00):
Last week we commemorated the fortieth anniversary of Peewee's Big Adventure.
So I'm Robert your glue in terms of delusional fan base. Okay,
whatever bounces off me sticks to you. But as far
as the Beage thing goes, look, we got to see
him a couple of years ago and there were a
lot of things to like. It's like, all right, this
is not the worst case scenario. If you don't end
(10:22):
up pulling off the trade, that then nets you the
number one and eventually Caleb Williams. So I think to
some level, it's the acceptance that you've got to back up,
that you've got a little bit of proof of concept
and with all of these new shiny toys you talk
of in the receiving cores and with a better offensive
line that at worst case scenario and you have to
(10:43):
break glass, this guy will be okay. Now, what has
not helped is the way the Bears training camp has
been covered. Look, Caleb did a lot of things last
year that we're pretty exciting, right, and we go back
to his USC days. There's a lot to like about
parts of the game. Now it's a matter of finding it,
bringing it together, learning to work under center, learning to
play on rhythm and on time, which is what the
(11:06):
NFL is all about, and what Ben Johnson is absolutely
been crushing him for when it comes to practice, right
is the reps and getting the ball out. What hasn't
helped is some national voices that take a little bit
of a story or a little video clip of six
seconds of Hey, I'm trying to get three footballs towards
this net as fast as I can. I miss because
(11:28):
we've got a wager that that becomes the Wow, he
can't even hit the.
Speaker 1 (11:31):
Net in this drill man. Look how terribly is Yes,
and that became the narrative.
Speaker 4 (11:36):
Yes, but that became emblematic of anything else going on.
Speaker 1 (11:39):
Now.
Speaker 4 (11:39):
The has the review of Caleb Williams from the local
press that's at practice every day been glowing. No, there's
a lot of hiccups, and that's to be expected when
you're going from anything goes I sit in the film
room by myself to I've got a coach who It's
about rhythm, it's about timing, it's about culture, it's about bill.
(12:00):
Based on that lame duck, whatever the hell they tried
to put out last year before they finally got right.
Oh and Caitlin Williams also had how many guys were
play callers in OC's.
Speaker 1 (12:09):
By the end, eleven eleven guys. I don't know that
it got to that many. To think your daughters called
it called the game, called the game one time.
Speaker 4 (12:15):
Well, I mean there was a contest and they did
win it. His Chicago voter early and often it.
Speaker 1 (12:20):
Was like Harbart Michigan when he got suspended and they
kept having different people serving as head coach and coordinators. Oh,
it's different people every week.
Speaker 4 (12:27):
You're gonna sit in that chair for the half, but
it's gonna be radioed in from somewhere parts unknown.
Speaker 1 (12:34):
But all of that to say, am I optimistic on
the win total? No?
Speaker 4 (12:37):
Do I hope that by week four, week five you
see some semblance of consistency with this offense. Look, you
rebuilt the offensive line, so all the excuse of their
their turnstyles and all of that that people were making
to try to get to that sixty eight sack total. Again,
I think there was a giant pie chart and Caleb
was responsible for more than his fair share last year.
(12:58):
Does that get cleaned up with the guy that's all
about precision. That will kick your ass off a practice field.
I would hope so.
Speaker 1 (13:04):
But if it.
Speaker 4 (13:05):
Doesn't, hey you're going back to the well in twenty
twenty six.
Speaker 1 (13:08):
But you're getting he's he's your guy all year. Don't
sit here and pine and wine for Tyson Baje. Alright,
I mean, come on, man.
Speaker 4 (13:15):
Get sucked into them. Come on, You're like the Seattle
see Off general manager in draft day. Come on, man.
As soon as Kevin Coster says I've read the message boards,
he gets all nervous. You guys said, you got Sean
McBride who doesn't know how the salary cap work comedy affairs.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
You guys just need to chill on the all bears ready,
I forbid you. I got KD working on a whole
bunch of burner accounts. Aaron Bears read at do wor.
He's got a little time before that season opener for
the Rocks. I here, Ben Johnson doesn't know what he's doing.
Exit out about a Fresco exit swollen dome. Jason Smith

with no application fee. Learn more at UMGC dot edu.
That's UMGC dot edu. Well, we'll have Jason locking Ford
(15:30):
coming up in a minute. But uh hey, I know
we've only had one week down in the NFL preseason,
but apparently Dak Prescott has the script for this season.
It does. He was seen but prior to the Cowboys
Rams game this weekend tellings Dan Cronke, Rams owner that
will see you in the NFC Championship game. So now
(15:51):
we know Cowboys Rams NFC Championship game like it's nineteen
seventy nine. Look at that, we know already going on
back way back.
Speaker 4 (15:58):
So now how am I supposed to watch these two
hundred and seventy two plus the rest of these preseason games.
It's kind of like watching a watching a prequel when
you know how it like you? Okay, I know these
guys make it to the end, but then you got
to find the drama in other places?
Speaker 1 (16:12):
Why stuff going back? Man showing a prequel. He is
known to us as longtime friend of the show on
Twitter at Jason lock and four. He is on Odyssey
Washington Post one oh five seven the fan in Baltimore,
and I believe he's got the Dodgers on the money
line tonight. It is Jason Locking four. What's happening?
Speaker 3 (16:30):
Man? Well, I'm wish it was the money line. It's
the run line, all right, it's the run line, Brewers
run line cash reds to lead after three plus one
twenty cash reds first five money line cash. Now, let's
let's get the Dodgers. Dodgers, Dodgers doing that thing. I
know it's Malmo plus four seventy five on the money line.
(16:52):
Fest that won't really be feeling again, look at it? Baby, Yeah,
let's go.
Speaker 1 (17:00):
Well, I was, you know, expecting to start with you
thinking you're going to feel bad from from the you know,
from the the gambling edge of it. Now that we
know that the Cowboys and the Rams are going to
be in the NFC, Championship game. That's going to take
the odds on those teams all the way down. Now,
I mean Dak said out.
Speaker 3 (17:13):
Yeah, I'll tell yeah. I will still be fading the Cowboys.
I'm bullets on the Rams, but they've got to get
the quarterback back. Uh. I think it'll be the Packers
and the Rams in the NFC Championship game again, if
Matt Stafford's back, uh can hold up. And no, Dallas
is not going anywhere. Dallas is not going anyway. And
(17:36):
when the odds come out for this weekend and the
first half, like the Ravens are favorite, and the money
is already coming in and you can see that you're
getting diminishing returns on the Ravens. But I really just
want to play the Ravens in the first half because
I don't want to have any money tied to Devin
Leary when he's pretending to be a quarterback in the
second half. But Ravens first half against the Cowboys, I
(17:59):
will feel pretty strongly about.
Speaker 1 (18:01):
So okay, So if I can, if I can play
it forward here, you like the Packers in the NFC
Championship game, the Jets just work the Packers over Week
one of the preseasons. So no game, is that what
you're saying?
Speaker 3 (18:13):
You know, I'm bullsh on the Jets. No, I love
you know, justin Field over five and a half rushing touchdowns.
Come on, man, he's going to have that before before
I've been giving out Halloween candy. I like them over
the five hundred and fifty rushing yards. I like the
Jets playing an all win total over eight eight and
a half. I told you guys, I think the Jets
(18:34):
can win more games than they lose. I think the
Jets defense will be pretty menacing, and I think they'll
have an identity back on offense, and they'll be able
to control the football and haul and fields are going
to just interesting things playing off each other, running out
of the pistol. But yeah, I mean, they still have
a ways to go, but I think they can be
(18:57):
you know, like, I think they could be the second
best team in that division. Like I've had fun playing
you know, Buffalo one, Jets two. You know I've I've
played Buffalo one, Jets two, New England three, Miami four,
you know, futures in that order as well. In that division.
I yes, I think the Jets defense will make them
the second best team.
Speaker 4 (19:16):
In it to visit to keep with our odds fun
all right, eleven to one to start week one, Shador
Sanders after Friday's exhibition.
Speaker 3 (19:24):
What say you, that's Joe Flacco is going to start
week one? That that I really wouldn't play in those
markets too much other than and I hadn't even looked,
but it's got to be really talky for Flacco.
Speaker 4 (19:34):
And minus with that minus one fifty six, I'm surprised.
Speaker 3 (19:39):
It's Frankly, actually, that's that's actually pretty low. It's it's
Joe Flacco unless he gets hurt, which which could happen,
but he'd have to play to get hurt. And it
seems like they got him wrapped in copious amounts of
bubble wrap right now, as they should. So door standers
will play this year. They'll get to that point and
they'll probably get through it soon around then later. I
(20:01):
don't think Joe Flacco was surviving the first seven weeks
of the season.
Speaker 1 (20:05):
They're going to start all four guys Jay, like I
said last week, they're going to start all four guys
at one point this year.
Speaker 3 (20:09):
I don't know that ticket starts there because I don't
know that tickets, Like, I don't know why he's there now,
and I really don't know. But when they're zero and
five and they turn the Sanders, what do you really
need picket there for too? Right? Because at that point,
if that doesn't go well, you're going to Gabriel, You're
not going to pickets. So I think there's a chance
three of the four play. But like if I think
(20:32):
it'll be Flacco, I don't think it lasts more than
five or six weeks, and I think they could be
Sanders after that.
Speaker 1 (20:39):
What did you make of his debut overall? What do
you think?
Speaker 3 (20:41):
I like it? The first the first series was which
you would expect. It was a lot of butterflies, an
old boy, this is a little different. And then he
settled down and he made some plays, and yes, there
is still that tendency two when you drop back in
the pocket and then you start and you know he's
not super athletic, and then you keep drifting and drifting
(21:03):
and drifting like you're not going to be able to
bail yourself out. That's he got away with it one time.
You know he holds the ball. Kind of ball security
is something he's going to have to work on. Because
he's going to be under duress some because that offensive
line is not what it used to be. But like,
he can make some plays, and he can throw the
football and he's not going to get rattled, and he
(21:27):
can take a damn hit, that's for sure. So he
should not have fallen as far as he did. And
I think there'll be some teams that look back on
it and say, you know, we could have probably handled
him because a lot of the issues that they're concerned
about it it's not so much on field as you know,
(21:48):
all the noise and distractions and you know, will his
dad be a problem and all that boogeyman bs that
really tends to kind of fade once a guy does
start playing.
Speaker 4 (22:00):
I'll have to go back and look and see if
Tony Grosse he wrote anything nice nice about him after
he was getting fronted in the locker the other day.
Speaker 3 (22:06):
We had some pretty good series, man. I mean, look again,
it's only pre season football. But he by no means
looked overwhelmed or pete down his leg.
Speaker 1 (22:14):
No solid, solid performance overall? Is that got going?
Speaker 4 (22:19):
Staying in the North though, Over to Pittsburgh, Cam Hayward
saying his hold in might become an into the season
kind of system. He watched his line made get paid.
Now he wants to rework and deal he signed twelve
months ago.
Speaker 3 (22:32):
Well that's the thing, and he'd make it fifteen million
dollars a year, and you know, he just agreed to this,
and I mean, I guess there's some things they'll do
to sweeten the pot even more. And he did have
a hell of a season, but he's a little longer
in the two than his buddy Watt, and it's just
a different scenario. And frankly, if they're going to be
(22:56):
as good as they could be, then I think that's
going to reach fire a little less of Kim Hayward
on the field. I don't know that they can ride
him as hard as they did last year and think
that's going to go super well. They've smoothed it out
with everybody else. I think they will smooth this out
with him. They're going to have to turn on the
charm a little bit, have a have a you know,
(23:18):
the right bedside manner here, and maybe sweeten the pot
in terms of incentives. But like this is this is
a pretty new contract and it was a shorter term
deal that he just agreed to, and again, like it's
not like he's making four million dollars or something like that.
So I think he's going to have to maybe come
to grips with it a little bit too.
Speaker 1 (23:40):
Jason Locking for our guest on Twitter at Jason Lock
and for the Jason smithser with Mike Carmon. All Right, now,
outside of the games, we got this report today that
NFL teams are monitoring Tyree Kill situation in Miami, thinking
that potentially they might want to move on fro him.
There could be a trait to move at some point. Well,
what are you hearing on this?
Speaker 3 (23:57):
Wait a minute, come on this. I said he wanted
and they were trying to peddle them and they couldn't
get anything. Fre Like what are we talking? What alternative
reality is this? Like, I mean, is this coming from Greer?
Is why would any if he's even trying to peddle this,
why would anybody believe it? Like their quarterback just came
out on the record a week ago and said, yeah,
(24:19):
he's gonna have to pay more than lip service around here,
Like he's got to rebuild trust, not just with me,
with everybody, Like, I mean, what huh, I'm monitoring the situation.
People don't want him like he's a declining asset. He
brings all kinds of baggage, and it's one thing to
put up with it when he's one of the most
prolific big play guys in the league. But like Man,
(24:43):
he certainly seems to have lost the staff he quit
on his team last year. That's this is now a
second team in relatively recent time, that, despite him being
very productive for them, wanted to get out from under him.
They couldn't. I don't know, guys, I don't I mean,
why huh? They should have moved him for nothing at all.
(25:06):
It should have already been additioned by subtraction. But it's
a cumbersome contract and it's again a player who has
a lot of stuff attached to him that isn't particularly pleasant.
So at some point, you know, people get desperate, injuries happen,
and he could be a salary dump at some point
(25:28):
in time. But the idea that people are lining up
to figure out what their offers should be to try
to pry him out of there or whatever is just
absolutely ludicrous.
Speaker 1 (25:38):
We got another contender in the hype Train candidacy.
Speaker 4 (25:41):
We had Shudur Sanders Friday, and then we got a
little bit of Jackson Dark and people are already trying
to jump him into the front. I mean Dable and Shane,
two guys that were kind of watching in terms of
the temperature.
Speaker 1 (25:53):
Of their seats Jason.
Speaker 4 (25:54):
So what do we make of how that quarterback derby
will be handled?
Speaker 3 (26:00):
Guys who they think can play in the league for
at least a period of time. I don't think that
they're notive enough to say he got twelve to sixteen
games out of Russell or Jameis Winston that they're gonna
want to see. But do they each have six in them?
And then where are we, you know, as we head
into the winter and how good is this defense? I
(26:20):
think it's pretty damn good? And how competitive are we?
Or have we reached a point where for the sake
of our season? And yeah, maybe to cover our asses too,
we start to look at Jackson Dark, like, I don't
think he's going to do anything in these games that
alters the idea that they go in with Russell Wilson
and they see that first, you know, then it's probably
(26:42):
Jamis up next, but not you know, maybe not absolutely
positively Jamis could end up just serving as the backup
to both those guys. But I'd be really surprised that
they got away from at least seeing if they can
get some stability from Russ Wilson, if they could protect
the football with Wissell Wilson and see what kind of
(27:05):
damage that defense can do.
Speaker 1 (27:07):
He's on Twitter at Jason lock and four That is
at Jason Locke and four also Odyssey Washington Post one
oh five seven the fan in Baltimore. Wanna bet check
it all out on his Twitter page again at Jason
lock and for Jay it's always mony. Appreciate it, man,
We'll talk to you soon.
Speaker 3 (27:22):
Thankslemen, have a great week.
Speaker 1 (27:24):
Good luck with that. That run line, Yeah, the run line,
I thought, oh money line. Oh run line. Okay, okay, yeah,
he got the run line and then he's got the Malmo.
I mean, if you haven't.
Speaker 4 (27:33):
Visited, sure you get to get out to Copenhagen and
uh and out to Malmo.
Speaker 1 (27:38):
I mean you'll have some fun Denmark and Sweden. Isn't
that where wait? Wait, that's where what's his name?
Speaker 3 (27:42):
Where?
Speaker 1 (27:43):
CARMEI sent uh, what's his name to work with Will
polter Wright? Something out there? For the Yeah. No, they
brought Will Poulter back for like no real reason. Oh
is it time for real Poulter? Is it time for
new job? Well brought couldn't get him out of Sweden unfortunately,
you remember Midsummar couldn't As you know, is it time
for a new job? That it's time for Express employment

wide world of sports. But guy's been called the Caleb
Williams of Fox Sports Radio. He didn't really do anything
this weekend, and people said, bring me someone else. It's
Steve Disago, and.
Speaker 6 (28:23):
Yet I'm here.
Speaker 1 (28:25):
Late night baseball.
Speaker 6 (28:26):
We got the Angels ahead of the Dodgers two nothing
in the top of the fourth. The Padres are scoreless
at San Francisco top of the fourth. The Dodgers are
the first place team in the NL West, but just
two games.
Speaker 1 (28:36):
Over San Diego. That lead was nine in early July.
Speaker 6 (28:40):
The Dodgers will play against the Padres head to head
the next two weekends. It's Houston holding on seven to
six over the Red Sox in the top of the eighth.
Starter for Boston, Garrett Crochet thirteen and four this year,
gave up the first five runs in four innings of workfact,
Alex bregman X of Houston did hit a two run
homer for Boston in the first. Red Sox down one
(29:01):
in the eighth, Diamondbacks lead six to five at Texas
top of the ninth, still a rain delay in Chicago.
Tigers top of the ninth lead two to one at
the White Sox. Saint Louis with two runs in the
bottom of the eighth, beat Colorado three to two. The
Rockies have lost eight in a row. Kansas City has
seven to four winner over Washington. Milwaukee won its tenth
straight game, seven to one against Pittsburgh. The Yankees hit
(29:24):
four solo homers in a six to two decision over Minnesota.
Philadelphia's Kyle Schwarber hit his forty second homer this year.
Phil's won four to one at Cincinnati. The Phillies are
the first place team in the NL East, now six
games over the idle Mets, who've been idle for the
last seven games. That they have all lost rams quarterback.
Speaker 1 (29:42):
You were idle the rest of August. I could say
they could hold onto the wildcard.
Speaker 6 (29:46):
Well, the Reds did lose in that game against Philly.
You know, the Reds were only a game and a
half out of the last EDEL wildcard behind the Mets.
Speaker 1 (29:53):
Too starts, so you're kind of a Phillies. See that's
how much it's changed for me, where a couple of
weeks ago would have been I want the Reds to
take care of the Phillies and message now it's like, okay,
give up on the division. We're not We're not getting
first place anymore. Come on, Phillies, looking babe, Sure we're
hit another home run.
Speaker 6 (30:09):
We're to mid August this week, six games behind and
going south.
Speaker 1 (30:14):
Yeah, we've been traveling south for a lot. Predictions looking
pretty good right now. Yeah, we've been. We've been on.
We've been on the traveling south. I mean we're we're
going downhill traveling south. We're not staff.
Speaker 6 (30:25):
You're in a new another state, not even in New York.
You're still traveling.
Speaker 1 (30:29):
So don't even have to have the engine on the car.
We're just going so downhill. We're just gonna go really fast.
Speaker 6 (30:33):
Fee if things going south. The Rams talked all week
and hey, Matthew Stafford's gonna make an appearance at practice
on Monday, spoiler or not.
Speaker 1 (30:42):
Miss practice again. He's been out with a bad back.
Speaker 6 (30:44):
He had a pregame workout Saturday, made over sixty throws.
Didn't feel good enough today. Jimmy Garoppolo is still getting
first team reps for the Rams. Stafford has yet to
practice in Rams camp this year. The forty nine Ers
say wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk might return in mid October
after last year's knee injuries. Eagles Pro bowlguard land and
Dickerson will have a procedure on his knee. He was
(31:05):
carted off at practice Sunday. Still hopes to play in
the opener next month. Dolphins running back Alexander Madison had
season ending next surgery after being hurt Sunday. Colts quarterback
Anthony Richardson will play this Saturday off the bench against
the Packers. Daniel Jones will start Richardson. In case you
didn't hear return to practice last Saturday despite last week's
dislocated finger. The NFL preseason resumes this Friday with two games.
(31:29):
Most teams play this Saturday, and there is a game
on Fox TV this Sunday night with Chicago hosting Buffalo.
Texas is number one in AP's preseason college football poll,
barely ahead of number two Penn State. Of the sixty
five first place votes, Texas received twenty five, Penn State
got twenty three, and there's only one WNBA game tonight
(31:49):
at Golden State. The Vulcries are leading twenty one eighteen
over the Connecticut Sun mid second quarter, Connecticut a team
that's for sale for starters and five and twenty.
Speaker 1 (31:59):
Five at the moment. Back to you, Thank you, Steve,
though your next success can begin sooner than you think.

Speaker 4 (32:17):
So with Connecticut at five and twenty five, do I
get a discount if I want to get together a
group and buy them, like it's a distressed property.
Speaker 1 (32:24):
Like alone, like a group on like oh hey, I
got this on the thing you want if you want
to buy a team, but.
Speaker 4 (32:29):
More it's like you know you've got a house of
you know, that's had some issues. Maybe they've been in
the police blot. Sure, maybe you know there's some some
active mold that you're gonna have to clean up or
a new route that you need. So it's a distressed property.
You know, there's a divorce proceedings.
Speaker 1 (32:42):
I mean, I don't know what it was. What was
if it was divorce proceedings with a bad roof that
had a lot of mold in it, and there was
some sort of police activity, some sort of stuff happened.
Speaker 4 (32:52):
Well there's a multiplier there. Okay, there's all I'm getting,
get well under market. I'm gonna have to build up
its reputation, have to do a lot of work so
they don't look at that house, like you said, a
completely new house.
Speaker 1 (33:02):
Yeah, very good. I just want the land congratulate. Well,
congratulations the Connecticut Harmins. You've bought them.
Speaker 4 (33:09):
I would rename that so fast exit out out of
Fresca exit swalling down.
Speaker 1 (33:13):
Thanks to Jason Locking for for stopping by as always.
Coming up next, Yes, we have the play of the
day and I'll tell you exactly how a big quarterback
derby in the NFL is going down. We told you
how was gonna end with Daniel Jones and Anthony Richmond
last week, How is the Biggest Quarterback Derby gonna end?
We'll tell you that's next right here, Jason and Mike
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (33:34):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (33:43):
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon.
We'll get into and solving a big quarterback derby coming
up in a minute, but first it's time for the
Play of the Day, brought to you by ty iraq
dot Com. For over forty years, tire Rack's been open
customers on the right tires for how what where they drive,
Shipped fast and free, backed by free Road, has protection
(34:05):
with convenient installation options like mobile tire installation. Tire act
dot Com is the way tire buying should be. And well,
I have a sneaking suspicion the it's gonna be reasoned this.
The play of the day is gonna be something that
was so good yesterday. It's gotta be the play of
the day today too. Slip on a deep right, it
(34:30):
is back?
Speaker 3 (34:35):
How is it?
Speaker 6 (34:36):
Collins walks it off against the Mets. You can't make
it up.
Speaker 1 (34:42):
Yeah, you can't. Brewers Radio on the call, Mets up five.
Nothing doesn't matter, doesn't matter. They find a way to lose,
doesn't matter. I will say this though, Okay, I do
want to say this, right, I gotta say this. Of
all the things happening right now with the Bleep and
Mets and why they suck so bad? What did I
tell you in April was gonna be the thing? Hey,
Mets pitching lab is great. What they've done, Manaia monsters,
(35:05):
all this is great. What are they gonna do in
August when all of these guys hit their innings limits?
Speaker 3 (35:10):
Right?
Speaker 1 (35:10):
Because Senga hasn't pitched in a year? Right, Clay Holmes
has never been a starting pitcher, right, all of these
things right. Griffin Cannon he never had, but now he's
heard he's out for the year. Tyler McGill, guess what
he's hurt. They're hoping he comes back. Him coming back
is a big thing for the Mets. But all of
these guys who have never pitched as many innings as
they have, I said, what's gonna happen when they hit
(35:30):
their innings limit in August? And here's where they are.
Whi's been three weeks a month since anybody's gone more
than five innings. I said this, This is why I
can be a GM I said in April, this is
a great plan, man, great plan. But in August they're
all gonna hit their innings limits and they're gonna run
out of gas. So what are we gonna do? Tuna
here we.
Speaker 4 (35:47):
Are well, Sternsy failed you. Oh, Sternsy failed you. You
needed not one, not two, maybe three arms. They kind
of mixing match between extending your start penn and you
got nothing. Yeah, sharp stick in the eye. Yeah, Isaac Collins,
get it done now. Somewhere, somehow they in Minnester Milwaukee.
(36:10):
I'm thinking about Minnesota in milwaukee'suck. If they have enough
people to play, everything has gone right right. Jackson Jurio
hasn't played since July twenty nine, doesn't matter, he's missed
the entire way. Andrew Vaughan hitting three fifties since coming
over from the White Hoop. He's laying down bunts, yeah,
to help them win.
Speaker 1 (36:25):
Yah. Zowski had to go to il. Yes, And what's
he doing doing his off time? He's pulling big, big
money charts mega charge. Yeah, yeah, I know, just screwing around.
Hey look what I got. I know, man, I know,
I know. Meanwhile, the Cubs can't get out of their
own way.
Speaker 4 (36:42):
So just like the Fills have runaway and hidding your division, yeah,
Brewers are doing the same.
Speaker 1 (36:48):
Uh so we have more baseball on the way. I
am sure Frostburg will jump in and say, talk more
baseball if the Dodgers take the lead over the Angels.
But uh, I'll tell you what. We talked a little
bit about this with Jason locking for a few minutes,
one of the big quarterback derbys, even though it doesn't
seem like a derby. Now, I'll tell you how things
are gonna end with the Giants, especially after this week.
Jackson Dart has a debut that's a little uneven, but
(37:10):
he makes a couple of really good throws. He looked good,
he was decisive. His camp is going well for him.
Notice how no one's talking about Russell Wilson's a guy,
no know Russell Wilson. There's been no talk about Russell Wilson.
How it's gonna go is this Jackson Dart's not gonna
start the season because Russell Wilson's not gonna do anything
to lose the job. They gave Russell Wilson the gig.
(37:30):
They want to bring Jackson Dart along and make sure
they put him in a position to succeed. So what's
it gonna be. It's gonna be Russell Wilson for the
first part of the year, and there will be some
games where he's fine, and then he'll run out of gas,
just like he did last year, and by week eight
nine ish, midway point of the season, it's gonna be
time for Jackson Dart. And you have to do it
(37:51):
because he's a first round pick. Right first round quarterbacks
don't sit on the bleeping bench. It doesn't go that
way for an entire season. Our first round quarterback, you
are going to play. So how it's gonna go is
kind of how it went for Russell Wilson. Latches some
weeks where he looks good, some weeks where he doesn't. Obviously,
he's not in as good a team as he was
last year. Giants defense is pretty good, but not quite
(38:12):
the team that he was. Overall, where hey, just come out,
don't make mistakes, execute two really good running backs. All
this going on, But this is kind of how it goes.
Is Russell Wilson's at the end. He's gonna end the
season on the bench, which is gonna be sad for him,
backing up Jackson Dart. By mid season, Dart will be
in because the way the season's gonna go for the Giants,
they're gonna lose in that division because all three teams
(38:33):
are better than they are. It's gonna be a lost year.
It's gonna we got to see the quarterback. We got
to see him and the pressure to play him, especially
with Dable under pressure of saying, hey, we got to
show something, right, I don't want to hit the offseason
and the Giants go, hey, that was great, but we
have somebody else coming in now that that's gonna coach
and figure it out. So the likelihood of them going
to him because he was a first round pick, because
(38:54):
they're gonna want to show something going forward, there's a glimpse.
Give me another year to work with this situation. You're
gonna see Jackson Dart by mid season. It'll be Russell
Wilson to start mid season Jackson Dart.
Speaker 4 (39:04):
The only reason it wouldn't is if Russell Wilson's playing well,
and he's leading them well enough to bride that defense
into some wins. Look, Tracy was pretty solid as a
running back last year. Unfortunately Saquon Barkley went and was
all World, so it looked like a huge loss. How
many wins would he have been worth? Probably not very many.
But what you're looking at for Dable and Shane right
(39:25):
now is to say, hey, we drafted this guy, we
should get a shot to run with it. So unless
Russell Wilson's playing like he's twenty twelve, like his hair's
on fire, and he's running around and making plays and
his postgame speeches are more than just internet memes, then yeah,
Jackson Dart will be that guy. Jameis Winston will end
up quarterbacking for somebody else as a break glass in
(39:48):
case of emergency guy someplace else. With the number of
starters we talked about it three straight years, you're into
mid sixties and higher for the number of guys to
start a game, So he'll find a place somewhere else
for Russell Wilson. Yeah, your best hope is that he
gets you through the first half of the season and
that Jackson Dart comes in and he's still playing meaningful
(40:09):
football and not just doing an audition and trying not
to get himself killed as part of a bad team. Yeah, look,
the Giants, as long as Jackson Dart shows Look again,
being a first round pick, you're gonna have a little
bit more time. But as long as he shows, now, hey,
it's not too big for me, right, that's what I
always say. Okay, great, they feel really good after preseason
week one that by mid time, midseason rolls around.
Speaker 1 (40:31):
He's our guy. Yeah, I believe it. Though.
Speaker 4 (40:32):
If Russell Wilson is playing well, then yeah, you got
Jackson Dart late in the first You don't have to
play him, right, keep learning, keep sitting whatever. Russell Wilson
could be useful that way, But we have no expectations
the win totally over under his five and a half.
They may overachieve like your Jets and the six and
a half that that's placed at that you're bullish on.
(40:55):
Maybe that's the case, but it's gonna be a long,
long grind to get.
Speaker 1 (40:59):
To that week eight to ten. That's dark time Wilson
to start, then it's dark That should be the slogan
on Giants T shirt. Wilson to start then it's dark.
I don't know that Russ would sign off on that. No,
but you can. You can make him and not license them.
It's fun. Coming up next a Titanic story out of
college football.
Speaker 4 (41:16):
Fox love to live in that universe, whatever that alternate
earth is. But I'm a realist. We're picked sixteenth out
of eighteen teams in the Big Ten.
Speaker 1 (41:25):
Okay, sorry, but all right, but that's all right, but
it's a big conference.
Speaker 4 (41:28):
Trevor Simeon signed a deal with the Titans today, so
we got to promote that.
Speaker 1 (41:31):
Or there you're going to say, Trevor Simmeyons signed to
go back and playing that year. He's got one more.
Speaker 4 (41:35):
Year left after a decade long career in the National
Football League.
Speaker 1 (41:40):
Yeah, he's not. Hey, you know, Trevor can buy for us.
You know, he can buy for us on Friday at
the at the store. I just give just give him money.
He'll get paps, blue paps, flu ribbon for us. Last
week was great. Yeah, yeah, the peels bar bottles. Oh yeah, sure,
we're good. Seven dollars, We're good, honey.
Speaker 4 (41:56):
Good for him, still in the league, still finding his
way back, even if he's just a camp arm for
a couple of weeks. But yeah, that's the that's the
only thing we got going for us right now is
putting that that kind of thing out because the AP
twenty five does not include US, No.
Speaker 1 (42:11):
No, the top three or top four. Rather, the AP
twenty five Texas is number one, twenty five votes, Penn
State number two, so it was close. It wasn't Texas
number one, but no, Texas number one, Penn State right
behind them with twenty three first places votes. Then it's
Ohio State and Clemson, and of course we have we
get Texas Ohio State week one, so that's gonna be
really we get three games right off of that. First
(42:33):
we get game game right if Florida State is any good?
Like it sounds great, but it's Florida State really any good?
All right? Let's say I was going to the Miami
lu Clemson. Yeah yeah, okay, all right, all right, Finn
top ten, yeah, game no, we got We had a
great slate week one, which is awesome, right, which is
part of what we're gonna get now with a with
(42:54):
an expanded playoff twelve soon to be sixteen teams. Now,
let me just say this first thing with Texas being
number one, of course, all the interest in arch Manning.
Is he going to stay for one year? Is he
gonna go? How good is Texas really going to be?
First time preseason number one in the AP pole. Let
me just say this, as far as Texas goes, it's nice, Right,
(43:14):
it's nice. But honestly, when it comes to the top
twenty five pole and you're talking about teams are number one,
fans are going to have to find a new thing
to argue about, right because once this list came out,
all I saw on social media was I can't believe
that LSU is not ranked higher than nine. How is
South Carolina not in the top ten? Why is Michigan
(43:34):
not the top I'm like, Okay, I get it because
it used to be in olden times. And by that
I mean, you know, going way back to when the
college football playoff was was, you know, was less than
twelve teams. It was about where you were because hey,
where you started preseason. If you kept winning and other
teams won, you didn't want to lose too many games
(43:56):
because getting back in and getting up high is very difficult.
Right If you think you're a top ten team but
you're starting off at number seventeen or eighteen. You lose
a game early, you're out of the top twenty five
and trying to get all the way back up into
the top four is really really difficult. But if you're
starting off as number seven and you're losing, your drop
to eleven, well, season goes on, you can get back
(44:17):
up into there, but getting out is really difficult. But
now I see that and I go, guys, know, twelve
teams make the playoffs. Now, it doesn't matter if you're sixteenth,
it doesn't matter if you're tenth. Does again, get twelve
teams and pretty soon it's gonna be sixteen teams in
the playoffs, right, you know that's how it's gonna go.
So I feel like, okay, I get it. You know, hey,
(44:38):
I want to talk about this. I want to be
upset about something. I want to be outraged. I want
to say, how is Boise State not higher than twenty five?
You're gonna have to find something different to argue with
because yeah, okay, I understand that you think you're being disrespected,
but remember it suses itself out. Now we get the
top twelve teams, we'll argue about who can squeak in
at number twelve. But you're arguing again, who are the
(44:59):
team teams that are snubbed for the NCAA tournament in basketball?
That's kind of where we're at. So this whole outrage
is like, Okay, I got it. You want to be
upset about something. That's what lists are for, listener made
for people to be mad about this. I can't believe this,
I can't look. We love We've been in a list
society now for going on twenty years. We love lists
and rankings, but you gotta find something a little bit
better than Oh, my goodness, where I can't believe how
(45:20):
is Indiana coming off a playoff the number twenty team? Okay,
well you lost your quarterback, but no, I'm a balance
falling into it. It doesn't matter. You gotta find something
else to be right.
Speaker 4 (45:28):
That's the fun part of it, right is you know,
go back to your epic battles with Gil Brandt all
those years ago. Right about your ranking system? Do you
have a system? You have a system, like, what's the methodology?
Speaker 1 (45:39):
How do we get that?
Speaker 4 (45:40):
And then for sometimes we're given what the methodology is
and how the rankings are weighted. Other times it's hey,
here's your list, shut up and you move on. In
this particular case, like we're not getting a bunch of
quotes to kind of get to well, how did you
come to your top twenty five? Nor would we read them?
Nor would we read them. That's part and the dirty
(46:01):
little secret to all of this. Behind the curtain. You
don't care what each individual guy, man, woman, child that
voted that in each of these cases, you don't. What's
curious is you go through and Texas is number one? Okay,
they returned nine star Wars. Yes, it's kind of curious.
Speaker 1 (46:19):
And they have arch. I mean, come on, man, they
have a how much is that? Wait? Into? All right?
Speaker 4 (46:24):
We we think this guy's the second coming, the next
coming of the Manning greatness. So obviously we've got a vault.
Speaker 1 (46:31):
I don't know. It's hard faster than the other Mannings.
He's faster than Tyree Kill. Apparently it's arch.
Speaker 4 (46:39):
He said he doesn't want to leave, so that makes
him different than so he's got that going for him.
Speaker 1 (46:45):
We'll see, we'll see how he feels after you. It's
the methodology of a lot.
Speaker 4 (46:48):
Well, look, we got a whole year before comes becomes
an issue.
Speaker 1 (46:51):
We'll see if that that that's a lot of lip
service from Archie Manning, not arch Archie. Now, we gotta
really do that from that's lip serve Archie. Oh he's
going to stay at Texas.
Speaker 4 (46:59):
Okay, Well if he comes in and again he plays
world beating football and they live up to this number
one hype and they roll through, that's great. I've got
my Phil Steel on order for the website because I
got a flight later in the week. Guess what I'm doing.
I mean, either're sleeping or I'm reading Phil Steele and
getting myself ready to steal college football and a whole
(47:20):
other light. But it's the kind of thing that we
love to argue about this and it makes for great
local radio fodder. Right and league college Football? Open up
the phone lines. Why you think this cornerback is going
to dominate the wide receiver of your most hated rival
within conference? And why you should be vaulted up? Why
(47:40):
is nuss Meyer not getting the respect he deserves? If
Arch's number one, how are we down here? And then
you give the phone number and everybody runs a muck.
Speaker 1 (47:49):
It's great. Yeah, no, look, it's great fodder. Look, and
I'm gonna tell you this now, So what are some
big things to take away from the plular. Obviously you're
arguing about who's too what it all sucks itself out. Uh,
Penn State at number two? Come on, man, have you
not watched Penn State and the James Franklin era. When
they play a team that's good, they don't win. Okay,
so I'm sorry. And the schedule this year, they have
(48:11):
a home game against Oregon, then they're at Ohio State. Right,
that'll be a big one, but that's not until November.
Then they play Indiana, who knows if they're gonna be
any good, but that game's at home, so kind of
a light is schedule. But it doesn't matter. They have
to beat a really good team for me to say, okay,
I'm all in on Pena. I no, Drew Aller is
back and he's probably gonna be the quarterback of the
(48:31):
Jets in the year. I know all that. I understand you,
but I mean, I've seen it so much now to
say you really think Penn State's that good show, They
have to beat somebody good, maybe win two games, and
I will say, hey, man, I'm taking Penn State seriously,
Like you can't just take Penn State seriously off the jump.
Just they're pretty good. They had a good record last year,
they got their quarterback coming. Like, no, I've seen them
(48:52):
in big games. I've seen they're not winning every single
What is James Franklin's record one in seventy five against
top fifteen time? But that's the thing. This could be
the year.
Speaker 4 (49:03):
This could be the recruiting class mixed with these the
guys that came in. You mentioned Drew all or all
of that that this is the formula. I can only
about what's the weight on those past seasons in past
fails for James Franklin. I understand what you're saying, and
I think I agree with you. But it's like when
you go to do fantasy rankings. I've had to do
(49:25):
a thing for the Fantasy pros guys, right, and they're like, Hey,
which of these guys in the top twelve do you
not Like? I'm like, well, I think he can get
to number twelve in the best ball scenario, but week
to week when I want him on my team, no,
James Franklin's that same guy. He might get me towards
that promised land, but there are gonna be weeks from
im Like you know what, I got a better option
(49:46):
as my coach from my fantasy squad to win me
a game this week. I mean, in this opportunity, that
same thing.
Speaker 1 (49:52):
Three and seventeen against top ten teams, and I don't
think he's beaten a top ten to what five years?
What's it? What's this record? Yeah, I mean, come on, man,
I mean I get it. The pageantry of Penn State. Oh,
it's great that Penn State is good and people can
look back and say, I remember the late days of
the late seventies and Chuck Fusina and beating Vinnie Testa
Verdi making him throw all those picks and Pete Giftopolis
(50:15):
ceiling the latest NAT and Penn State National most recent
Penn State natural Lettle. Yeah, no, I get all that,
but I've seen enough for this era to know in
big games, it don't show up. It happened.
Speaker 4 (50:23):
We got that Rose Bowl win right against Utah, so
we got that. But yeah, it's it's it's he's three
and nineteen.
Speaker 1 (50:30):
Yeah, I mean, come on, man, I mean really, I mean,
I get it. But oh, we're gonna put them up hot.
Oh they gotta beat somebody.
Speaker 4 (50:36):
Well, but but you gotta go with what the team
is on paper right now in terms of returning starters,
the assessment for what position by position, unit by unit,
and the fact that you return a bunch of guys
that played very well last year. So for James Franklin,
I'm thinking he's getting the benefit of the doubt with
a lot of change across the rest of the college
(50:58):
football landscape. And again, if you want, it's for now
and what makes for a great debate. The fact that
there were only two first place votes behind Texas.
Speaker 1 (51:08):
A little bit surprising.
Speaker 4 (51:10):
What do we have five, six, five or six teams
that finished with at least one vote right? And five
teams well, you got Texas, ped State, Ohio State, we
got to six because Georgia.
Speaker 1 (51:22):
Had one in Oregon had one.
Speaker 4 (51:24):
But all of that to say he's got to go
out and win it now, I mean it makes for
great What do we always talk about for fantasy purposes
and for other whenever we start doing these rankings, you know,
the thirty third team and their quarterback tiers?
Speaker 1 (51:38):
What's it do?
Speaker 4 (51:39):
It gets people all fired up and angry. And every
year when these rankings to come, now what happens?
Speaker 1 (51:45):
Great fodder? Great fire?
Speaker 4 (51:46):
You hate my team, You hate my coach, you hate
my my entire being.
Speaker 1 (51:51):
That's what it does. It's great. Now. The other thing
the takeaway here, this is what is really stunning, and
this shows you that the bias towards Alabama is no
not going anywhere. They name their starting quarterback today, say
it right, Ty Simpson Simpson Simpson, Eh, I'll remember that name. Look,
he's been there forever. Caitlin de Bor kept saying, Hey,
(52:12):
if we have to play today, he's our quarterback. You
have to play days a quarterback. Well, now, he especially
their quarterback. You got Nussmeyer coming back, who is a
surefire first round NFL draft pick, right, coming off an
incredible year. And the talent level between LSU and Alabama,
it's not like it was, you know, ten fifteen years ago. Okay,
LSU is coming off the the cycle in Alabama's great. Alabama,
(52:34):
you don't even know what they have at quarterback and
they're still ranked higher than LSU. Right, which makes me think, boy, Alabama, Really,
how did Alabama not find a way lest how did
they not find it?
Speaker 4 (52:47):
Did they decide that nus Meyer's injuries worse than the
betting market because he's second for the heisman behind the Arch.
Speaker 1 (52:54):
I mean, it doesn't matter, it's it's you have a
you have a guy that everybody believes in outside of Arch,
Manning is the best quarterback in the country. And still Nope,
I'm going with Alabama. We don't even know if this
guy's gonna be any good, but where he's ranking him higher? Like,
come on, man, really be realistic with Alabama. Just be
so again you go to who's gonna get that benefit
of the doubt if you can at the end of
(53:14):
the season, Hey, get ready.
Speaker 4 (53:16):
Red shirt junior season for old Ty Simpson there excellent,
finally gets his chance if you started today, because that's
the other part, right, endorse your man.
Speaker 1 (53:28):
He's one of your quarterbacks in Sector seven G sir, Nah, excellent,
But I'd be really just think about that, right, Brian
Kelly's gotta be.
Speaker 4 (53:35):
Like, really, we're looking up at Alabama. Maybe they don't
like Brian Kelly. Maybe it's guy has so much pro
Alabama as it's an anti Brian Kelly. How about that?
That is just outstanding man. Ever since he did that dance,
I think he lost whatever street credit had
