Jays dropping a pop up that could have made it
two outs runner at first instead one out, two on.
So Aaron Judge's home run off the foul pole in
left field ties the game at six, and again we
are in the bottom of the fourth inn it.

But it's funny, right, We're sitting waiting for the odd
couple to finish their show and to come into the studios,
and as we're setting up, I go, I go, hey,
turn turn to the right. Aaron judges up again. It's
like he just met it. Well, there he is again,
and on the next pitch it goes sailing up. It's
like back back is it going? And then it hits
the bowl.

And people are going crazy. Guys, they still have to
win this game six to six. Yeah, it's not. It's
only the fourth And honestly, Judge hits this ball and
it's really a bad swing. It's kind of an excuse me.
He gets jammed, but look he does a great job
getting out and like he muscles it, and I thought, oh,
and he's starting to watch it, and I'm like, oh,

is he watching to see if this lands down the
line like a whooper over third base? And instead it
hits high off the foul ball. I'm like, how the
hell is a swing? How can you help me get
home run with a swing like that? You hit a
ball like that with a swing like that. That made
I saw. I said, there's no way that's off the fat.
Holy crap, How the hell is that off the fat?

Squat six hundred pounds? Oh wait, that's shale. It hurts.
I'm sorry. And we still can't get the offense, right,
still can't uh and already look all myself, you know,
all the social media over the past couple of days. Right,
I had a really good week picking football this weekend.
But my big bold prediction we talked about this Friday.
I said, Hey, Yankees are gonna smoke the Blue Jays, Right,

They're gonna They're gonna They're gonna hit the ball and
it's gonna be a short series. And it's turned out
to be the exact opposite. The other team is matching
the ball. And then again, so ma, people go, oh,
you're gonna talk about that bull prediction. You got wrong.
Stick to football, stick to this, stick to that, stick
to hockey, stick to whatever, stick to that, stick to this,
stick to that. And I really and I want to
just say, do you think I'll be upset if I

get a prediction that the Yankees are gonna win wrong? Really?
You really think I'm gonna care if I got oh
the Yankees, I got that Yankees prediction wrong, and instead
of them moving on, they're going home like the Mets.
Oh oh my goodness, Oh yes, oh my goodness. I
feel so full, so full of shame. I don't care
if I get that prediction wrong. I don't care.

I mean, we'd like to be right. But in the end,
oh yeah, sure. It's the old fantasy line. And I've
been doing fantasy advice forever. Do I start this guy
or the other guy, and I'd give you my opinion
as to how you see the game going. And then
if it goes another way.

Guess what if I got you to toggle to my side,
I did it right, it's the player's fault if he
fails you, it's not mine. Oh yeah, yeah, no, absolutely,
it's not my fault.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
I made a cogent, coherent, beautiful argument that got you
to toggle to my side. Now, if the guy ends
up getting giving you a big goose egg, hey, he
failed to perform in this particular case or in where
we pick games. Same idea, Like, you've got a script
in mind of based on what you've seen and how
it's going to go. In this case, you were being

a fatalist thinking the Yankees were suddenly going to go
on a tremendous tear and that from pillar to post
they'd be able to light up the scoreboard, and that
that starting pitching was going to come through. Instead, it's
been anything, but it's been Hey, how early do we
need to go to the bullpen in each of these games?
Because the starters have been absolutely terrible.

Speaker 1 (05:43):
Uh, it's not been a great for starting pitchers, not great,
Bob right and clearly showing. Look, and this is a
big thing to get into. There's so many absolutes that
that people want to say for playoffs, for baseball, that
that analysts want to say it ex players, and it's
it's starting pitching is so important, And then you get

starting pitching is not important, bullpen is more importantier Still, well,
that's because he was a starting pitcher. Yeah, there's a
long line to.

Speaker 3 (06:15):
What's longer the people that want to kick his ass
or the people that were on the never again board.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
Wow, I thought that was going a different direction, and
I'm glad to get Hersheizer, Baker Mayfield, Jamal Adams, Melvin Gordon.
There's a lot of people on that. Curtis Martin no, no, no,
I just shook Curtis mart back. That was. No, that
was a great still steal his jaunty little cat. That was.

That was a great moment for both of us. That
was It was. No, absolutely, it was awkward, but it
was such a great moment.

I mean, that's still no more awkward than someone stealing

have something Oh no, absolutely, you have to have starting pitching. No,
you don't have to have starting pitching. You have to
have a bullpen. No, you don't have to have a bullpen.
You have to have starting pitching. And the real takeaway

when you think about the playoffs, it's it's it's okay, well,
each each team is unique to themselves. No, pitching in
the playoffs is a crap shoot. It has always been
a crap shoot. It has always been a crap shoot.
When you get in the last few years, when you
have the extra rounds in the playoffs, when you can't
manage your team to say, okay, after this series is over,
we have now five days until the next round. We

can reset our rotation so or our top three starters
are going. That's not baseball anymore. Starting all pitching, starting
pitching bullpen in the playoffs is an absolute crap shoot.
It's why, Hey, you get a hot hand, you ride.
It doesn't matter why. Last night, Dave Roberts, you gotta go.
You gotta go to Roki Sasaki. I know you like
your guy, but that's the one guy.

Speaker 5 (07:51):
You know.

Speaker 1 (07:52):
You gotta go to Rokey Socaki. But look at what
complete crap shoot. As he tried to explain it away
after the game, he said, well, I didn't know if
he'd be ready for the second time in three days,
and then you still brought him in. Oh okay, I'm
glad you brought that up, because I want to bring
this up. Dave Roberts. Oh right, he's the manager. I
don't know if he's gonna be ready. No, really, you're

the manager of the team. How do you know I
don't know if he was gonna be ready. How do
you not know anything about one of your players like that?
How do you not know?

Speaker 3 (08:19):
Saying you didn't bring him in to start the ninth
because you didn't think you'd be ready. But then all
of a sudden, when it was the break glass in
case of emergency, Hey, let's hurry you out to the
mountain to like a fireman, right the old Rolades Fireman
of the Year award, to close things out. You couldn't
get him out there fest enough.

Speaker 1 (08:39):
I mean, I really, Dave Roberts tried his best to
get fired last night. Like you know, I really, I'm
done with the pressure. It's really difficult to think I
should win with Otani all the time. I'm done. I'm
trying to get fired by doing this. But I mean, look,
but that's the thing about pitch. It's such a crapshoot
that when you find something that works, you stick with
it and you don't go around, Oh I'm gonna do this,

do this. It's such an absolute crapshoot. Shane Bieber was
losing it on the mound. We were watching him lose
it on the mound. And still, how is Toronto not
going to someone? You're gonna let the Yankees back in
this game. You're gonna let him back in this game.
Shane Bieber continues to throw batting practice. Okay, well, time
to get him out of the game, right. You can't
sit you can't sit back and say, well, let's let
him work his way out of it. No, you're going

for the killer. You're going for the kill shot here
against the Yankees, and what happened. They left Shane Bieber
in too long. They cut the lead to three. Aaron Judge,
it's a home run. Now it's six six. He makes
a diving play and right field for a ball. Aaron Judges,
trying to make up for dropping the ball in the
World Series last year. But I mean, but that when
when you find pitching that works, you have to stick
with it whether it is and you have to be flexible.

(09:41):
It's it's gotta be hey, okay, we're getting stuff out
of our starting pitching. So that's what we're gonna do here.
And if that's not working, we got to change on
a diamond pivot to this. You can't have one strategy
all the way through the playoffs. And I'm watching this
from the from the Blue Jays and from the Dodgers,
and I go, do you not understand that this is
a much different situation. I mean, I don't yet. I
don't get so many moves that managers make where it's like, Okay,

(10:04):
if this isn't working, you have to go to something else.
You have to go to something. It's six to one
and Shane Bieber's in trouble. Stop the momentum. You get
first and second, after Judge rips a base it bell
and drips a base it off a high fastball, you
know what, guess what time to go to the bullpen.
Stop themnum, bring somebody else in, hold on to this lead.
It doesn't matter if you use your relievers tonight, because hey,
you're gonna have some time off. You win this game.

(10:24):
But instead, it was too long to get to the bullpen,
and they still allowed the runs. And now here comes
the bull and now it's a brand new game and
we're still I mean, I think we went backwards. We're
now in the third and oh yeah, so that's how
long this game is. We go on from the fourth,
sacrament third, sprinting, trying to save los Lane's life, just
trying to do that. I mean that that's that's what
drives me mad about the playoffs, is that the manager's

refusal to adapt to what is going on, because it's
not just simply one pitching strategy. It's what is working,
follow it. If it's not working, you have to go fast.
You gotta that that emergency glass is breaking. You gotta
break that much fatter than you do during the regular season.
And they still want to I want to stick with
my guys. You know what, the guys understand. It's the playoffs.
I'm not getting anybody out. They understand that. Regular season.

(11:08):
I own, I get it. Regular Hey, Skip, I know
I've been you know, like mag Nanti when he's talking
to a Brad Pitton moneyball, Hey, thanks for sticking with me.
And I've been working on some things in the bullpen,
of course, And Brett Pitt says, Mike and Heed, you
to stop getting dressed by so bad example. But like
it's one thing in the regular season to say, hey,
I'm sticking with a guy, and I'm gonna stick with
us with a starter here because he's been so good,

(11:29):
he's worked in and out of things you don't have.
You don't have that leverage and you don't have that
that rope anymore. To say yeah, it's okay to do
this because this is one of one sixty two and
lots of things can happen. This is one of five.
What a five, and you you let the you want
to let the Yankees back in the series, You want
to let the Phillies back in the series. I don't
get it well.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
And if you're a guy who has been fantastic for
you all year or in years past, not that I
want to do the uh open the car door and
slam Dave Roberts as I drive by. But that's just
because the guy had success four y a year ago.
They're not pitching well now right the I want to
give Blake trying to No, no.

No, no, that guy from last year is not here
right now. He's not coming back. That is that is
not what we were talking about. And even with the
Yankees earlier. Ro Don was terrible, Yes he was dog.
Finally one of your old players in the playoffs shows
why he was a white sock very five. Finally, all
the other guys were, dude, come on, man, you gotta

you gotta wear this man. All your guys that were
on your team that was terrible, you go someplace else
and now they're great. I thought the reverse of that.
How about all the great players have incredible careers that
go to the White Sox and then suck.

Well, all those Hall of Famers Carltons and tom s
and Kenrif had like one hit.

As a White Sock. Hey, hey, he had more than that.
What did he play thirteen games as a White Sox

stopped the bleeding, and they didn't. They let it get

they were locked in on him, and yet they left

years and see his way to to not having me
