They lead the Tea Wolves ninety nine to eighty eight.
We'll have more on these games coming up throughout the night,
but joining us now in the hot line for the
biggest story at all of sports the Lions bye week.
The World Series. Game one goes to the Blue Jays.
(01:32):
They knock Blake Snell out of a pitcher's duel and
turn it into a laugher. Eleven four is your final
fourteen hits for the Jays. Nine run bottom of the
sixth inning. Oh boy, how much trouble the Dodger's in
Joining us now in the hot line MLB Network Insider extraordinaire.
He is on Twitter at John Morosi. It is the Pope,
(01:56):
John Paul Morosi. Pope. What's happening? Man? How are you?
Speaker 3 (01:58):
I am doing great, my friends. Good evening on the
West coast, good morning in the Eastern time zone. And
I think, my friends, we have got a World Series
on our hands.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
You know, we talked about this a lot, because we
mentioned this going in. I know you and I mentioned it.
We mentioned it last week. The Dodgers were going to
get a bounce starting pitching wise, coming from the NLCS,
are not going to go We're not going to see
the performance like they just had again in the World Series. Right,
didn't think it was going to be quite like this
for the Blue Jays. Dodgers starting pitching, and where they
(02:31):
sit right now going into Game two. Where are you.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
John Paul Well, I'll say this, the reason the Dodgers
lost this game was not starting pitching. In my estimation,
I think it was obviously a two to two game.
Midway through, I will say this, the Jays ran up
a high pitch count on Blake Snell, which led to
(02:54):
the bullpen, which ultimately was the Dodgers' downfall. The Dodgers
also had some sloppy moments on the basis both teams
ran a thousand the bases in the first half of
the game. But I do think when you consider the
way the Dodgers were playing early, they missed some chances
when you Savage was still trying to find his way,
they missed some chances that they typically cash in on
(03:15):
to take a bigger lead and put more stress on
the Jays. And then maybe at that point when Snell
leaves the game. It's a stronger part of the Dodger
Pennant's coming in and then maybe the entire entire middle
part of the game and the ending that changed everything.
Perhaps it unfolds very very differently, But this is I'm
(03:36):
describing right now a Dodger team that offensively was a
little bit off in their execution. That happens when you
take a week off of games. That's a reality of
the layoff that they just had. But the other piece
of this is the Blue Jays have a really good team.
And I don't know why there was such surprise at
the Jays being competitive with the Dodgers. They batted basically
(03:59):
three hundred for the first two rounds of this postseason.
They've got a really good lineup, and the Dodgers, we
know they've got a great team to the reigning World
Series champions. But it doesn't surprise me that the Jays
worked better at bats against Snell than what the Dodgers
had to deal with against the Milwaukee Brewers and even
(04:21):
against the Phillies to an extent, the Jays put the
ball in play. They only struck out four times tonight,
So there's a lot to like about the way that
the Jays are setting up right now and today affirmed
that the Jays are at the very least a very
very worthy opponent for the Los Angeles Dodgers. And if
the Dodgers don't make their pitches, the Jays are going
(04:42):
to sting them in a way that just did not
happen for the Dodgers the first three rounds of this postseason.
Speaker 4 (04:47):
JP, all of that that you just said was great.
It requires that people watch the games and not just
count how much they spent on players, right.
Speaker 3 (04:58):
I mean again, I'm not saying for a chief shot
at Jason, but the Mets had the Mets actually had
the highest favor le baseball. They didn't make the playoffs,
so there is no promise in this sport. May I
introduce all of you ladies and gentlemen to baseball. There
are no that it's always been uh and and there
(05:22):
are plenty of times you go back to the history
of the game. Arguably one of the most beloved Dodger
championships ever, eighty eight was a series in which very
few people gave them a chance to be competitive, let
alone win it, and and they won the thing decidedly.
So it's it's important to keep that in mind that
we can be surprised with baseball and the greatest weakness
(05:46):
of this Dodger team, which is the middle part of
the of the game, the gap between the starters and
then whether it sasaki or trying are really dialed in
and doing great. It's that gap, and teams that put
the ball in play and move the line and work
deep at bats have the best chance to ring up
(06:08):
a high pitch count on the starter and get into
the middle part of the bullpen. Now, I didn't think
they were gonna score nine runs in one inning, but
this is the kind of thing that can happen when
you've got a very smart lineup, which the Blue Jays have,
against a starting staff that really hasn't been challenging this
quite in this way. The Phillies obviously have a lot
(06:29):
of name brand players. The Phillies were not swinging the
bat as well as the Jays are swinging it right now,
and the Jays are still on the emotional high of
just having beaten the Mariners in a seven game series.
Momentum in a postseason is a very real thing, and
right now it belongs to the Toronto Blue Jays.
Speaker 4 (06:47):
Yeah, as We've talked about it, the much beligned bullpen,
but they're down one of their surest r right with
Vesia not being available. We were talking about that, Jason
and I with Steve De Sager a bit earlier that
you know, six great scoreless appearances for him, a guy
you leaned on almost seventy times this year. That's a
big hole to fill against a team that is as
(07:07):
patient and as persistent as this Blue Jays lineup.
Speaker 3 (07:11):
Well, you really right, And for those that are are
maybe just tuning in or don't know the full backstory,
Alex Vessi is away right now because of a very
serious family emergency, and it's not on the Dodger roster,
and he has been, Mike, to your point, one of
their most important relief pitchers for the entirety of this
season and especially of the playoffs. So this is a
(07:34):
very significant absence. Obviously, there are way more important things
going on than baseball for him and for his family,
so certainly our prayers are with them. But tonight I
did add that thought a couple of different moments in
the game, that they're missing one of their most important
players right now, and obviously they're trying to more than
anything to support him and pick him up. And I
(07:56):
think Andrew Friedman made the comment earlier today. I believe
that they didn't really even want to put Alex on
the roster through via a family emergency scenario where he
could then be added back on, because they just want
to send the message him and his family that listened,
don't feel like you have to rush back to get
(08:16):
into this thing in the middle of the series. Take
the time be with your family. As heartbreaking it as
it is to not be able to compete with his teammates.
I think it was the right sensitive decision for the
Dodgers to make, and certainly, from a pure baseball strategic standpoint,
your heart breaks for him on a human level, but
certainly the Dodgers missed one of their very best teammates
(08:40):
and relievers.
Speaker 1 (08:41):
Here tonight, John Paul Moros the MLB Network Insider, where
us Jason Smith, Mike Carmon live from the Fox Sports
Radio studios. Okay, So, seeing what we saw in game one,
if I'm looking forward to game two, John Paul, complete
the sentence for me. What I expect to see from
the Dodgers in Game two is blank. Try to say
(09:02):
trying to digest what's going on here Game one eleven four.
What you expect to see from the Dodgers in Game
two is what better better.
Speaker 3 (09:10):
At bats, better at bats. And and that's because first
of all, they're a better offense than what they showed tonight.
Uh and and to be honest, they they did have
three hits of men scoring position, they still scored four runs. Listen,
four runs is often plenty to win postseason games when
you're pitching. Is really on point, and I think that,
to me is is the big thing is that there's
(09:32):
now I think a little bit of an elevated sense
of of of difficulty on on Yamamoto's play tomorrow. Now,
let's be clear, the last time we saw Yamamoto pitch,
he had a complete game against the Brewers and and
basically allowed nothing after the first batter of the game.
I mean, he is special. Now I think he's facing
(09:52):
a tougher lineup. I think he's also facing a tougher environment.
This this Toronto crowd, now, their their confidence has ever
been higher than it is right now. And they are
they are, I think, arriving tomorrow with confidence and believing
that hey, could we actually take a to nothing lead
on the Dodgers, the Mighty Dodgers. Now the I think
(10:13):
on the Jay side of things, they've got a veteran
starter and Kevin Gosman, who certainly has a greater pedigree
than what Trey Savage did in You Savages start tonight,
but he's also a bit more of a known commodity
for the Dodgers, and also in some ways his repertoire
matches up well with with what they saw from a Savage,
(10:35):
so they they should be relatively attuned to what they're
going to see from Gosman, who not long ago was
actually pitching in the National League westn of San Francisco Giants.
So there is the known commodity. There's a lot of
reasons as I look at the series and look at
the at bats and the lineups and the veteran players,
and certainly Otani got going late with a home run.
(10:56):
So there's there's things in the way the Dodgers play
tonight that telling me that they're not that far off
that maybe with one game one loss, or they've now
experienced the atmosphere in Toronto, they're snap back into reality
after having the week long layoff. They should be themselves
again should be and there's a very high likelihood, in
(11:17):
my opinion, the Dodgers go out tomorrow win the game
and even the series. That's what you would expect to
happen based on a lot of the things that I
just laid out there. And yet tonight reminded us that
baseball is unpredictable unless you're my colleague Dan Pleisak, who
called a home run a grand slam from Barger before
(11:37):
the game. It's very hard to predict this sport, and
I think that's where a lot of us are right
now entering Game two.
Speaker 4 (11:44):
All Right, now, I have questions, and I should have
looked up odds for Barbers hitting over, But I mean
that's the romanticism of this game, right, Bishett comes back
and give them what he can physically, right, playing a
little second base, made a play a base, right, So
the first game back, so you check that box and
(12:04):
then you get the youngster, you know, first at bat,
grand slam swing. And we've been doing all sorts of
research tasks here JP, trying to put it in perspective,
much like we did with the Otani game last week.
Speaker 3 (12:17):
Right, Well, I mean there's a lot on the Blue
Jays side to digest. But let's be clear about this.
What they did tonight, while historic, I would not describe
it as shocking. It's only shocking if you just if
this is the first game that you've seen the Blue
Jays playoff season, which is admittedly the case for some fan.
(12:41):
Let me introduce you. Let me introduce you to the
last series they played in which in Game three on
the road they were down oh two, difficult circumstances against
a really good starting pitcher in George Kirby. They won
thirteen to four. The next night they won eight to two.
They scored twenty one runs in a span of two
games against a team that is known for great pitching.
(13:04):
And then they went on and beat them four to three,
and they came back and beat him in Game seven.
They beat him in Game six, six to two. This
is again historic, first pinch at Grand Slam in history
of the World Series. From Barger, that's pretty remarkable. You
look at some of the other at bats. Ernie Clement
right now is batting four to thirty five in the postseason.
Vlad Durero Junior is batting four to forty seven in
(13:25):
the postseason. Barger, who with the home run is batting
three twenty four. These guys didn't just they didn't just
stumble out of a hockey rink and put on baseball
almost and they tried to swing the bat. They have
very recently been a very strong offensive club, as I referenced,
scoring twenty one runs over two games against the Seattle Mariners.
(13:47):
So this is a very impressive historic night. It is
not from where I sit a surprising one as someone
who just covered them for seven games in the American
League Championship Series.
Speaker 1 (14:00):
All right, now, lastly, John Paul, as everybody knows you
are our Lions whisperer. Your record this year and picking
Lions games is incredibly accurate. Look like a ninety three
percent picking Lions games. They have a bye this week,
so I'm going to ask you for a little freelance
pick Michigan and Michigan State tomorrow National Game. Half the
(14:23):
state that you live in is going to love you.
Half the state is gonna hate you. What do you think?
Speaker 3 (14:28):
Also true of my family, by the way, are as
they would describe a divided household in many ways, my
father a proud Michigan State alum. I'm gonna say.
Speaker 1 (14:41):
This you don't say my father hates me, You're gonna
start listick people. Yeah, my father, I've got.
Speaker 3 (14:51):
I'll say this. I think that there, this game is
going to be closer than a lot of people believe
that it will. I've got this as a Michigan thirty
five Michigan State twenty four. I've got it thirty five
twenty four. Michigan State competitive, able to discore some points.
(15:15):
I realized offense has been a bit of a struggle.
They scored thirteen points and back to back weekends against
a couple quality teams there in UCLA and Indiana, but
they did. They did manage to score twenty seven against Nebraska.
So again, I've got thirty five twenty four. Michigan State
keeps it close, Michigan pulls away late and gets a
very needed conference win for the Michigan Wolverines.
Speaker 1 (15:38):
He is on Twitter at John Morosi, that is at
John Morosi, who has figured out the secret of life.
If half your family hates you, just make sure half
your family loves you. That's all you need.
Speaker 3 (15:48):
Now, that's all that's all you need. As they say,
I'm paraphrasing Earl Weaver. Here with your with your family.
Just like your baseball team, keep the half that hates
you away from the half that's still undecided. All right, yeah,
but you get the idea.
Speaker 1 (16:06):
No, no, no, I love that. That was a great one.
I love that one. Yeah, keep the half away with
the people at are sure he's on Twitter at John Morosi,
that is at John Morosi. Pope has always appreciated we'll
talk to you next week.
Speaker 3 (16:18):
I fuck you guys, love this time here. My friends
always enjoy conversations, Enjoy the World Series, and we'll talk to.
Speaker 1 (16:23):
You next week. See you, John Paul there go. Yeah. No,
that was the earl weaver. When he was asked about
what's your secret to being able to manage all these players,
he says the secret is to keep the half of
the team that hates you away from the half of
the team that's not sure about you, Like that's the
big Sure. Make sure they don't talk, and then you
can be a good manager.
Speaker 4 (16:43):
And now I'm sitting here, I got a ledger because
I'm like looking at all the folks in the studio,
I'm like undecided.
Speaker 1 (16:49):
Wow, Wow, Okay, I don't know. De Sager maybe ty
Shirt definitely not. Patrick loves everybody so yeah, okay, you're
like at fifty percent. Okay, I'm bad on a five
hundred game, okay, yeah, one and one, yeah, yeah, yeah,
you're yeah, that's right. Like your start of the season
is okay, there's been some highs and lows and okay,
(17:10):
so you're one, one and one. Oh you definitely don't
like do you like harmon.
Speaker 2 (17:20):

Speaker 1 (19:35):
I am from the future. I told you going into
the World Series. My biggest concern for the Dodgers they're
starting pitching, they're pitching in general, was gonna get a
bounce off of the NLCS. Make it five two, Toronto
leading the Dodgers right now, Emmett she And has come
in and not gotten an out andres him and az
(19:55):
Metsio with a single to right field bring in the
fifth run of the game. It is still bases loaded
and nobody out for the Blue Jays as they continue
to bat in the bottom of the sixth inning. So
we'll have more in this game coming up in a
few minutes with Steve de Seger. But as we get
set for what could be separation week in college football,
big big games to get to nobody better than longtime
(20:19):
college football. Inside of the website is college Footballnews dot Com.
All the prognostications, all the picks for every game, anything
you could possibly want. It is your one stop shopping
for everything college football. The owner, editor, proprietor Pete few
Tech Pete, what's happening? Man? Happy Friday?
Speaker 6 (20:38):
Is this the textbook definition of station to station baseball? See,
I'm the straightest you all fields here. I can't be
I do more than just football here. I can watch
a baseball game once than a while.
Speaker 1 (20:50):
Yeah. No, no, this is the Blue Jay saying, hey,
don't screw it up. We don't have anybody out. Don't
get thrown out of the bases like Freddie Freeman did.
Don't screw it up. Okay, Okay, we're fine, exactly.
Speaker 6 (21:01):
You know what's really sad? I didn't know this game
was happening until like an hour ago. But okay, you know,
not exactly the best. Yeah, look in my world, did
you guys? I'm gonna say a name that you've never
heard of, and you're it's about to be a part
of your life. For it's a Drew mess to Maker.
(21:22):
He's the North Texas quarterback who just threw for six
hundred and eight yards while all this was happening, lighting
up poor old Charlotte tonight.
Speaker 1 (21:32):
Because oh yeah, you have to say future future Jet
franchise player drew me estimates.
Speaker 4 (21:37):
Hey, six four to eleven. He's got the prototypical build.
Speaker 6 (21:40):
Exactly. No, it's and he's one of those guys who
didn't play in high school and he's got this weird story.
Speaker 1 (21:46):
But uh yeah, he's he's Chad Powers. He's a TV
show chat. He didn't play in high school. Nobod knew
anything about him. All of a sudden he showed up. He'sai. Yeah,
he's like Chad Powers.
Speaker 6 (21:55):
Yeah, exactly, that's exactly who this is. Well, well, well,
this little you know world series is going on. Yes,
there are games being played in Charlotte, which, by the way,
went blue pass the over. So that's what really matters
in the sports fold right now, all right.
Speaker 1 (22:10):
Now, as we get to this slate tomorrow, I wanted
to be honest with me, Am I a good college
football fan or a bad college football fan, that my
favorite game of the day is UCLA Indiana.
Speaker 6 (22:21):
Yeah, you're not crazy in terms of one, you're in
a stute college football fan because tomorrow's play the game sucks.
But for the most part, I mean, how about just
from a curiosity standpoint, because what if it's not gonna happen?
But I wrote a column this week kind of saying,
(22:42):
you know, look, it's not gonna happen, but what if?
What if UCLA wins this? Because there's a whole bunch
of factors that play here that kind of overshape the season,
because one that means UCLA is actually really good. They
just beat the number two team in the country. They
still have a game at Ohio State and at USC
(23:03):
They're not going to win any of them, don't But
what if they did. You know, first of all, they'd
go to the Big Ten Championship, which would be insane.
And then even if they lost like close, wouldn't you
have to put an eight and five UCLA team in
just because it beats the one, two and three. But
like on the more realistic aspects, the fact that if
UCLA just plays Indiana tough. It kind of got lost
(23:25):
in the phrase that after Deshaun Foster got whacked, the
first game under the Skipper regime was against Northwestern and
no one thought anything of it because, oh, well's UCLA,
they're awful or whatever. Meanwhile, Northwestern has played really, really
well over the last several weeks or so, and it's
got a funky game tomorrow, and if it somehow beats them,
(23:48):
then Nebraska team. This is going to get a lot
weirder in the Big Ten before it gets settled.
Speaker 4 (23:54):
I do like the fact that you did bring up
that it is the Skipper era. It is not New
Highsley is not the head goas.
Speaker 1 (24:00):
It doesn't matter, nobody cares about that doesn't matter.
Speaker 6 (24:04):
But you know what, if you got here like Jerry Newheizel,
you know, no.
Speaker 1 (24:08):
It's I'm jealous of it as well.
Speaker 2 (24:10):
So I mean we got that going on.
Speaker 4 (24:12):
Plus twenty six for those keeping tracking home, all right,
is Brian Kelly getting fired at the end of tomorrow's
game if he loses.
Speaker 6 (24:18):
Gosh, you know what, it's so funny that it's not
a crazy thought, but it's someone has to lose in
the sec It kind of gets forgotten by here, like
Billy Napier. Okay, fine, it didn't work at Florida, and like,
you can't lose nine games in a year and a half.
But every single one of those losses by Florida was
either to a team that was in the College Football
(24:40):
Playoffs is going to be in the College Football Playoffs,
and the other two is like Texas A and M
when it was seven and one last year and starting
off and the other one was at LSU. So it's like,
not everyone can go twelve to zero in the SEC,
and SEC fans aren't really you know, cognitive of that.
So uh, it's hard sometimes to win these games. Again,
(25:02):
going back to you know, Northwestern and all this in Franklin,
you know, gets whacked because, oh my gosh, you know,
you know, how dare you lose to UCLA and it
turns out Ucla is not bad now, and oh my
gosh that you have the indignity of losing at home
to Northwestern. Well again, if Northwestern is good tomorrow, if
you're Penn State, you just clump the guy who was
(25:23):
a fourth down stop in any of those three games
away from still having his job and then you you know, say, oh,
you're bad, you lost the Northwestern Ucla. Well, turns out
there pretty good.
Speaker 1 (25:34):
Pt Tech College Football News dot Com inside where there's
Jason Smith Mike Carmon live from the Fox Sports Radio studios.
All right, game of the day, Pete. Look, it's it's
on opposite usualy in Indiana where I'm watching UCLA for
new Heiseel's hair and Fernando Mendoza thinking he's going to
be a jet ole Miss and Oklahoma huge game. Look,
biggest game of the day, obviously a couple of teams
(25:55):
at six and one. Oklahoma, I feel like they were
one of those teams, Like like every week I change
how I feel about them, Like I said, Wow, Oklahoma,
then I'm like, ah, but Oklahoma. No but Oklahoma. Nah
but Oklama, where are you on this? All right?
Speaker 6 (26:08):
Well here, let me let me do this for you
real quick. However you feel about Oklahoma doesn't matter because
it's going to be settled in fast. Take a look
at their last five games. That is the hardest stretch
of games I have ever seen a team have to
close with I don't have it off the top of
my head. I do know they close against Texas A
(26:29):
and M. But you name anyone who's ever good at football,
and that's who they play over. They're going to lose
at least two of these next five, So they cannot
lose to ole Miss tomorrow. Now, on the flip side,
ole Miss, if it wins this thing, it might on
the weird wrong Thanksgiving type of day lose the Egg Bowl,
but they're not losing twice. So if they win tomorrow.
(26:51):
You look at the rest of the old miss schedule.
They're in the College Football Playoffs because they are not
going to drop two more games after this one, because
this bot is breeze as it gets. Meanwhile, Oklahoma I
Fit loses this, it's not insane to say that they're
going to have a hard time winning another game the
rest of the year.
Speaker 1 (27:09):
It's Tennessee at Tennessee, it's at Alabama, it's home for
Missouri and then home for LSU. Though that could be
a non Brian Kelly LSU right, like, that could be
you know, hey, we're we're playing out the string right now,
that that might be the easier one.
Speaker 6 (27:24):
Yes, but if we've learned this year though, as soon
as you whack the head coach, the team is awesome. Yeah,
all of a sudden, Arkansas can't be stopped. I mean
they're Bobby Petrino, Trent Dilfer gets you know, sacked by
ua B and all of a sudden it turns into
you know, the Kansas City Chiefs against Memphis, and then
(27:45):
you know, Deshaun Foster and Tim Skipper that sort of worked,
you know, So it's been pretty it's kind of actually
not been the worst thing in the world to get
rid of your coach in the middle of the season.
But it's it's the vote thing to do. But I
don't know if it's actually the smartest thing to do
with these financializes, unless you think you have a coach
in place already because or else you want to try
(28:07):
to make your your fan base happy and keep them
from screaming at you.
Speaker 4 (28:10):
Pete, I'd be remiss if we didn't at least mention
this matchup one of the other ranked on rank matchups
that we've got. Because you talked a lot about Northwestern,
how about Vanderbilt as a top ten team against Missouri
chaos in college football this year, but one that has
great ramifications in the conference it does.
Speaker 6 (28:30):
You know, this actually might be the most really the
most important game to day. Like I said, like, let's
say Oklahoma beats Ole Miss. Well, kind does a matter
for Ole Miss because they still might be in the
College Fotball playoffs and Oklahoma still might lose two more games.
But this one, you know that the winner of this
stays alive for everything, and almost that we're talking about
(28:51):
top ten Vanderbilt. Okay, Still, I've seen this team a
bunch of times I've looked at him, I'm still not
quite buying it. But it's very they make it's so simple.
I know, it's you know, it's so easy. He wasn't
everyone do it? Well, Why don't you just block and
tackle and not make a ton of mistakes and just
keep the chains moving on third downs? Like it doesn't
(29:12):
seem like it should be that they don't go for
anything crazy. They just set up nights and easy third
down chances and then diego. Manzell takes off with his
legs and just goes and makes big things happen. And
then you repeat over and over and over again. And
that was the real thing. I mean, because LSU we
talk about Brant you talk about Bran Kelly before. Usually
(29:33):
his offenses are great. This one isn't. This defense is
by far the best he's had at LSU and PAVIA,
and that Vanderville offense just carved it up. So yeah,
this will be an interesting one because the winner of
this really is still on the thickest things for everything.
Speaker 1 (29:50):
He's on Twitter at Pete fu Tech. That is at
Pete fu Tech. The website is college Footballnews dot com.
As always, be'd appreciate it. Man enjoy the games this weekend.
We'll talk to you next week.
Speaker 6 (30:00):
And keeping in our tradition, of course, something big happens
when I'm on the phone with you guys doing this sport.
Speaker 1 (30:05):
Yeah, lots of big just a little bit, lots of
big things has just happened, Uh, to find out more
about this right now, a game that has had all
of our attention throughout the night. Some incredible things that
we just got to see. The Knicks beating the Celtics
to improve the two and oh s teeth. The SACER
has more on that right now with what's trending, Steve, you.
Speaker 7 (30:27):
Really have no shame, do you?
Speaker 1 (30:29):
Zero?
Speaker 7 (30:30):
Game one of the World Series in Toronto, and the
Blue Jays are still batting in the bottom of the
six oh Mercifully there's the third out of the inning,
nine runs in the bottom of the sixth and eleven
to two lead over the Dodgers. The precincts have reported
this game is over. Game two will be Saturday night
on Fox TV. You can leave the telecast now if
(30:51):
you promise to patronize our sponsors. Blake Snell wins the
starter five, five runs eight it's allowed in his one
hundred pitches thrown as soon as the league get up
to four to two this inning, I did peruse by
stats that fourteen straight home games for Toronto when they
score four or more, Yeah, they've won every one. Fourteenth,
(31:15):
You're gonna make it fifteen. After tonight Dodgers were up
two to nothing in the third, Bobashak grounded him too
a double play to end the bottom of the third
for Toronto. He did wind up starting tonight a single
and a walk and playing second base. Had a nice
backhand play, not playing short stuff for the first time
since the minor leagues. But this is a guy that's
back that had been out with a spring knee since
(31:36):
early September. One of the rare three hundred hitters in
baseball this year, he batted three eleven ninety four RBIs.
He contributed bottom of the fourth, two run homer for
Dalton Varshow to tie the game, first home run that
Blake Snell has allowed to a left handed hitter this year.
And then the floodgates bottom of the sixth, and now
it's eleven to two for the home team, LA starter
(31:57):
Snell left with bases loaded, no outs. Emmett Sheehan came
in poured gas on the fire. All three scored two
singles and a walk. Anthony Bonda than Atlanta Grand Slam
to pinch hitter Addison Barger, the first pinch Grand Slam
in the history of the World Series. Alejandro Kirk with
a two run homer as well off the.
Speaker 1 (32:17):
Mindo Coofax came in to finish the inning and got
the Dodgers out of it.
Speaker 7 (32:21):
Kofax with half an arm would be better than this bullpen.
At this point to the seventh Toronto is leading eleven
to two. Tomorrow night, it'll be Yoshinoba Yamamoto starting for
LA against the Blue Jays Kevin Gosman. And by the way,
this postseason, we can update the stat now teams that
out homer their opponent twenty five and five in these
playoffs to the NBA under four minutes to go in
(32:44):
New Orleans, Spurs leading the Pelicans one twelve to one
oh eight three and a half minutes to play at Houston,
Pistons ahead of the Rockets one oh nine, one oh
five wins for Cleveland and Miami on the road Atlanta
as well. Milwaukee won at Toronto one to two to
one sixteen Janis Antennacumbo thirty one points, twenty rebounds at
(33:05):
New York thirty one points for Jalen Brunson and a
victory over Boston one oh five ninety five. Wizards are
leading mid fourth at Dallas one oh one to ninety one,
and it's the Lakers hosting Minnesota and it's currently thirty
four to thirty Minnesota in the league. Late in the
first NHL, New Jersey won its seventh straight game, three
one over San Jose forty nine. Ers quarterback brock Perty
(33:28):
out again this weekend with a toe injury, Panthers quarterback
Bryce Young doubtful with a high ankle, Spring Eagles wide
receiver aj Brown out with a hamstring injury, and Texans
wide receiver Nico Collins out with a concussion.
Speaker 1 (33:40):
Back to you, thank you, Steve. Oh. Now, that's Spurs
Pelicans game. Just for a second on this. You know,
we talked about this before Opening night and I said,
you know, the Spurs are my dark horse NBA Finals team.
They put it all together. This is going to be
the year where Wemby becomes the best player in the NBA.
And then you watch him opening night that you know
he's he's six inches taller than he he was last year,
(34:00):
and I think he's his reaches now three feet longer
than it was. And you think, Okay, by the end
of October, we're gonna say that Wemby's the best player
in the NBA. He's fouled out of this game, okay,
for the Spurs. And that's why this is a shame,
because here's Wemby's final stat on the night, twenty nine points,
(34:21):
eleven rebounds, nine blocks, and two assists. He almost had
a triple double with blocks, and if he obviously hadn't
fouled out, he would have likely had that. He was
twenty nine to eleven and nine blocks for the Spurs,
who continue to lead the Pelicans in overtime. Despite all
the highlights we're getting from Zion in this game. I mean, really,
(34:42):
every time I see Zion make a play like yes tonight,
I go, man, dude, just stay healthy, Just stay healthy
for five minutes so we can all enjoy this. And
I mean, really, some of the stuff he's doing tonight
as athletic as we thought he was gonna be when
he came into the league. And I'm just like, just
stay healthy for a little bit man, just please do.
Speaker 4 (34:57):
That seems to be inspired when he looks acros us
the court and season guys like a guy like wem
Minyama who's getting all the headlines that he used to.
So I'm like, hey, watch me be a pogo pogo
stick here and for wehm Minyama, this shows you that
in the eyes of the leagues, he's not yet a superstar.
Speaker 1 (35:14):
He doesn't get that six fouls.
Speaker 4 (35:17):
Normally you have to bloody someone to get the sixth
file as the super.
Speaker 1 (35:23):

Speaker 1 (36:13):
Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon, your selfish bastard. The two biggest stories
of sports right now. Game one of the World Series.
What is happening right now in the Los Angeles? No,
not Dodger fans getting really nervous. Luka Dantic midway through
the third quarter has thirty six points for the Lakers
(36:34):
there on top of the tea Wolves eighty seven, eighty two.
This was the kind of night I had in mind,
Mike Card Oh, by the way, if you don't have streaming, yeah,
good luck then Friday night. Baby. We told you this
is NBA, right This this is the new World. This
is the kind of game I envisioned when I said, Hey,
without Lebron, Luca is going to just carry and pull
(36:58):
and drag and yank the Lakers to victories all by himself,
just like he did with the Mavericks. That's what this
game looks like, where Luca and and a Lakers lineup
that just looks like a bunch of guys, right like
you know, eight and has been just okay so far,
you know, but Hacha Morris somehow has found a way
to make some shots, and Austin Reeves has made a
(37:19):
couple of shots. But this is it looks like Luca
when he was with a bunch of guys in Dallas.
That's kind of what this game looks like. But again
what I expected to see. Okay, this is Luca, new deal,
new situation here he is now skinny Luca. This is
what I expected. This is what we're getting from Luka Donca.
Speaker 2 (37:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (37:36):
I mean we've always talked about DeAndre Ayton going back
many years of killer instinct, big size, but big moments
not there for you. Injury history certainly part of it.
Hachimura looks to be that number two right now in
terms of the packing orders you alluded to seven to
ten Tonight hit a couple of shots in game one,
(37:57):
but it's the same thing he comes on to. This
has some big minutes, and just as quickly as he
explodes offensively, he'll disappear for a bit. You get a
bit from Austin Reagis. I just fear this isn't sustainable.
Right if we start talking about, you know, Lebron missing
extended time and we're talking into November towards the holiday
holiday holiday, maybe unwrap him as a Christmas gift.
Speaker 1 (38:20):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (38:21):
But all of that to say, what's Luca going to
have left if he's got to carry this kind of
load all the way through? So, I mean that's a
bit of a concern. So marveling at it watching it
really missed opportunity though. If you're on Prime and you're
watching this game, Yeah, you got the logo in the
upper right, Where the hell are my deals that you
should be sending me to right now?
Speaker 1 (38:42):
You can get.
Speaker 4 (38:42):
Ten dollars off this extra large thing of detergent. I mean,
come on, missed opportunities man, Sell, Sell sell, I'm a
captive audience.
Speaker 1 (38:54):
We'll keep you updated on this story as it evolves. Again,
still a long way to go here. Midway through the
third quarter, Luca on pace for what could be and
should be a fifty point night. Meanwhile, Game one of
the World Series goes to the Blue Jays eleven to four.
They erupt, knocking Blake Snell out of the game after
he loads the base in the six doesn't matter. Addison
Barger comes off the bench, pinch hits a Grand Slam
(39:17):
home run. You got another home run from Alejandro Kirk
and suddenly the Blue Jays have hammered their way to
a one game to non lead in the World Series.
And I am from the future. I am from I
don't know winning lottery numbers. I am from the future
where I can tell you about sports. What did I
tell you last week? My big concern for the Dodgers
(39:37):
was they're going to get a bounce in the pitching department.
They're not going to pitch like they did in the
NLCS against the Brewers. It's just knock gonna happen. They
remind me of the Mets in twenty fifteen, where the
Mets went hot knife through butter through the Cubs in
the NLCS. They didn't quite get that pitching performance in
the World Series and the Royals won, right, And what
did we get tonight? Blake Snell right away has a
(39:59):
rough first but escapes without giving up runs, but still
a twenty nine pitch first inning. He doesn't get out
of six, He loads the base with nobody out. The Dodgers'
bullpen can't get it done. And here's that. I So,
what do I say that We're not gonna see the
end of the playoffs? Without the Dodger bullpen and saying
we're gonna have a say in this. We're gonna have
a say in what happens. And I don't mean from
a positive perspective for the Dodgers, like we're gonna have
(40:21):
a say in this and eleven four is your final.
That's the thing. Dodgers got to mash their way if
they're gonna if they're gonna win this series, the pitching
is gonna get I mean, maybe not like this every
night obviously, but they're gonna get a pitching bounce. You
saw Snell got the bounce tonight. They had to go
to the bullpen. The bullpen was terrible, and here you
have it. I am from the future.
Speaker 4 (40:40):
Yeah, I mean the stats said Steve Brodis, you know
you out slug your opponent, what is it, twenty twenty
six to five or whatever is the record if you
out home or your opponent playing station to stage is
a bad base running and they had the opportunity. Look,
you sevens only went four, but they let them off
the hook in two of those innings, so you're looking
at the opportunities were there. We talked a little bit
(41:03):
about the absence of Vessia, a guy that you relied
on for sixty seven sixty eight appearances this year in
the regular season. That's an absence that when you get
into those middle innings, they're gonna have to figure out
how to navigate that. But certainly here a lot of
clenching in Dodgerville.
Speaker 1 (41:21):
Yeah, this is all of a sudden Game two becomes
a must win for the Dodgers to try to get
back in the series. Control it coming back to La
but again, gonna have to Mash. Can't count on the
starting pitching to carry in. We got more on Game
one of the World Series. What's next? How much trouble
the Dodgers in MLB Network insider John Paul Morosi joins
(41:42):
us next covering the World Series. Fox
