Speaker 1 (01:17):
I mean when you first dropped that you were an
asthmn too, I mean, okay, all right y, yeah, you
know I I.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
Said I wanted to fulfill as much of harmon as possible.
You know what I'm saying. That's what it is. A
best friend as man, not the well dressed hobo. I
am an ass man. I am an ass man.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
It's not not the well dressed hobo.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
Not the well dressed tobo, not dress hobo.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
No, it's you know, you know, listen, we're we're bringing
back the word hobo. You know, nobo. Nobody really uses
that that much. We've kind of brought hobo back.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
I love hobo. When I think of hobo, I do
think of like, in order for you to be a hobo,
you have to be missing, or you have to have
a hole in your sock and your toe has to
be like sticking out. Oh that's hobo.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
I think the guy like the but has a face
like a clown with the bowler hat, and and he
jumps a train. Sure, you know, one of those one
of those trains that go like, hey, it starts a
new in New Jersey and it ends all the way
down in clear Water, Florida. All Right, I'm on, like,
that's their thing.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
I think of Hobo and I bet you he has
a hole in his sock.
Speaker 1 (02:18):
Yeah yeah, oh yeah, yeah, the toasting of the brown
shoes and very good. All right, we're bringing it. We
brought Hobo back. We did, ty, Should you feel good
about bringing Hobo back? We brought Hobo back. I mean
we brought something else back.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
Well, well we.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
Can bring other stuff back now too, but just we
have Hobo right now. Hobo. Yeah, okay, all right, that's good. Okay, good,
So we're going with Hobo.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
Except why that happened though, Ryan, because he was missing
a tooth.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
No, no one's missing any No one's missing any teeth.
No one's missing. Harmon does still miss a tooth? Yeah,
he's just a placement. He did have Okay, he did
have a tooth come out. No, no, no, he had
to come out. In the middle of a segment. We
were talking and all of a sudden said, did you
just lose a tooth? Like I do? I bring it up.
I'm like I have to. He goes, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
I did not. This is very modern family.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
Yeah, oh yeah, yeah, it was in the middle of
him talking, all of a sudden, the tooth just came out.
Like he didn't take a bite of anything. You didn't
I had a piece of pizza or I had wings right, No, no, no,
just dude, just talking. The tooth just came out, came out.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
I didn't know that.
Speaker 1 (03:17):
Yeah, you know. Then Tyser comes up with the Hobo
drop and that, right yeah, and then we like this
this whole like facade of Harmon just going through like
trains and like all the packages that were on the ground. Yeah. Yeah, yeah,
he's you know, he's taking all the packages out like
he like he's Tom Hanks and in a castaway and
he's although he's just going through everything. Oh no, no,
(03:37):
the wings on. I'm gonna leave that one. Gonna leave
the wings on there. Uh Now. So we have a
lot of stuff happening tonight. It's a big day in
the NFL. And I'm not lying when when I'm not
over selling this. This was the most valuable, biggest day
where we've heard from Aaron Rodgers in a while. Right now.
I mean, clearly he's on the other side of the
(03:58):
mountain coming down. When it comes to the attention that
we spend on him. And he went on Pat McAfee
today and he the way he talked, I'm telling you
the very beginning of this offseason, I said, he's gonna retire. Right,
It's just not.
Speaker 2 (04:13):
Gonna work for him.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
There's not like he This year kind of ended as
good as it could, right, because the last seven eight
weeks he wasn't bad. Right, He's still wound up in
the top ten for yards and touchdowns, right, But the
beginning of the year was just so awful and the
Jets couldn't close. But this is how Rogers's going, and
you can tell that he was close to the end. Now,
maybe would I give him a little bit of needed
(04:35):
more time than expected to get past the Achilles injury
because he didn't really look like himself until midway through
the season. He was very skittish. He was throwing off
his back foot all the time, not just half the time,
which is what he likes to do. So I'm like, okay,
I'll open that a little bit. But this looked like
this was as good as it was gonna get. And
is the cliff gonna really hit him hard? So when
the off season came and the Jets weren't gonna bring
him back. I said, well, that's it, because he's not.
(04:56):
He doesn't want to go to another team and learn
another offense and all these other things. He's going to retire.
But he kept things going, kept things alive. Maybe the
Vikings were interested, maybe they weren't. Maybe the Steelers really wanted,
maybe they're not. But I said, he just seems like
a guy that's going to retire. But he wants to
own the decision. He doesn't want to be have it
be foisted upon him that nobody wants you, so now
(05:18):
you retire. Right. He clearly has the narrative that he wants,
which is a couple of teams were interested, the Steelers
out there he went and he threw with DK metcalf
all all to make it look like, hey, I still
have choice I'm going to make. I'm gonna make this
decision whether or not I'm going to retire. And we've
been left in the lurch, red, what's going on? What's
(05:38):
happening now? Listen to Aaron Rodgers. This is from Pat
McAfee show on ESPN earlier today. And you tell me
if he sounds like a guy that's going to play
in the NFL again.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
To make a commitment to a team is a big thing,
whether you're a first year player or a twenty year vet.
And I had a lot of great conversations with a
lot of teams. Not one of those was the Jets
because that wasn't a great conversation we heard.
Speaker 1 (06:04):
So that was an accurate report. Okay, got it.
Speaker 3 (06:06):
Okay, that was that was not an accurate port. We
can get into that in a second.
Speaker 1 (06:10):
But okay, but I had.
Speaker 3 (06:12):
Some good I had some good conversations. But I've been
upfront with all of them.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
So here he is saying, listen, I will get to
the Jets part of it. But that's a different part
of the conversation. This trust me, trust me, we're gonna
get to It's to look at that me like, uh
huh no, you think we're not going to get to
the Jets part of it. But you hear him say
he's got a lot of stuff going on personally. You know,
he's not crazy about the off season programs, which he
wasn't last year because he went to Egypt. He's going
(06:39):
to retire, but he's going to do it on his
own terms. He's going to do it in his own time,
and he's going to say this is it for me?
I'm done? Because you think about the options for him,
is that Okay, the Jets didn't want him, which potentially
I could see him coming back because hey, you know,
new thing going on, new players, knew everything. I know
the system and I can stay there. I know the personnel.
(07:00):
This can work out. But him and Mike Tummin would
be a disaster, all right, It would be an absolutely death.
You have one guy that wants to do it his way,
the other guy wants to do it his way, right,
It would be a be a disaster. Is he really
gonna go and potentially ruin his legacy of Boy, look
at Aaron Rodgers that last year in Pittsburgh here or
wherever it was. Maybe he thought, you know, Minnesota, probably
(07:24):
because hey, I want to go play Green Bay two
more times. I really want to stick it to them,
and I can just throw it up to Justin Jefferson
like Sam Darnold didn't. I think everything gonna be fine.
So maybe that would be the one where Okay, you
can convince me to come back and play. But if
he wanted to be a Steeler, he would be a
Steeler he'd be on the team now, he'd be if
he wanted to be a Steeler, he would be. He's
he's ninety five percent retired. Five percent. Well, if something
(07:48):
shakes loose, the draft is different. There's a couple of
trade somewhere. Yeah, but he trust me. Hearing him today,
he's done and he knows if I walk away after
last year, that was still a pretty good ending. I
don't know that I can do that if I play
again this year.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
This was the most chatty we've seen in a while
from Aaron Rodgers. He really did say a lot. I
gotta tell you, I did not think he was retiring
because of how the second half of the season ended.
I think he thought I still have it in me
and I can even end on a better note than
just the last half of the season. So I really
(08:26):
did not think he was retiring. I think he wants
to play. I think this retirement is now kind of
being pushed because, like you said, he and the Steelers,
I don't see that being a fit. Just I'm like,
you both want to run the show, and Tomlin has
been running the show for years. I don't see how
you come in and kind of run the show. So
(08:47):
I never saw that fit. And I agree with you
he doesn't want to play for the Steelers, or he
would be signed with the Steelers. But I think this
retirement is happening like in real time for him, Like
he's realizing that because there isn't other options. I bet
you if there was another option, he would like to
play one more season. He would like to end on
an even better note than the last couple of the
(09:09):
last couple of weeks with the Jets. It's Aaron Rodgers,
you know what I mean, Like, I don't see him
going out this way unless he has to go out
this way. And I agree with you now that he
wants to control the way he goes out. But I
think he's been kind of given retirement because of his options.
It was like that was his like you know, fifth
(09:30):
option in the off season, and now he's reached it.
Like it's like, oh no, this is a real possibility.
I may actually have to retire. And the whole thing
with the money, yes, And the whole thing with the money.
He made a comment that like money is not an option, yeah,
because they're not giving it to you. And I feel
like accepting a low quote unquote low paying job. Is
him accepting that he is no longer an elite quarterback.
(09:52):
He's saying, I'll just take ten million. I know you
don't need the money. It's more of like what it
signifies you taking that means you're accepting that you are
no longer an elite quarterback. So his options are retirement.
Speaker 1 (10:07):
Yeah, he's still Look he's not elite, but is he
still pretty good or could he be good enough with
a really good team.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
But you know, for him, like for him to accept
that he is no longer the Aaron Rodgers, Oh no, I.
Speaker 1 (10:18):
Agree, Yeah, yeah, And I think he I think he's
one of those guys where in a in a right moment,
which hey, he seemed really loose talking with that.
Speaker 2 (10:26):
Man.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
We're just we're just hanging out talking today.
Speaker 4 (10:29):
Man.
Speaker 1 (10:30):
He cursed like seven or eight times in the interview.
He was like, Hey, I'm cool, man, We're good today.
You and me, Pat Man, we just have vide But
you know, I think you he would say, hey, I'm
not I know I'm not the guy I was, but
I'm close enough that I think I can still do it.
And and you know, with this whole waiting, you know,
(10:51):
I keep going back to Phil Simms, you know, played
football for a long time, you went through a lot
of injuries, won the Super Bowl with the Giants, and
and and you know, great play by play guy for
a long time. I'm a great analyst for a long time.
He always says, whenever someone asked me about retiring, I
always say, man, after football is long, right, so you
need to make sure you're done. So I think there
is part of the Rogers thinking where I really want
(11:13):
to make sure I'm done. Yeah, Like I don't want
to say okay, I feel gone a piece with it,
and then suddenly something happens and the Vikings call and go, hey, dude,
we just found out JJ McCarthy's not healthy, so would
you come back? But he doesn't want that to happen.
So there is part of where I just want to
be at peace with it. And I'm still leaving the
door open a tiny bit. But he sounds like he
is like ninety five percent. I'm good, because you do
(11:36):
have to be nervous that man, if I go out
there that one more year, it could be bad. It
could really be bad. And I don't want that to
be the last thing people think of me, is me
in a Steeler's jersey and Tomlin yelling at me at
the sideline, and you know George and George Pickens is
just you know, throwing his helmet on the ground and
he's laying on the ground yell doing snow angels, saying
(11:57):
throw me the football, like I'm not gonna do that.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
You're not wrong. It could end a lot worse than
how it ended with the Jets. It was a disappointment obviously,
the two years with the Jets that no one expected.
I mean, I took them going to the playoffs. I
was also bamboozled by the two years that he was there.
But I again, I think it's just he doesn't want
to admit except say out loud what you just said
(12:20):
of him saying like I'm not as good as I
used to be. He doesn't want to say that. That's
like a tough thing to accept when you have been
maybe the greatest to some people, the greatest quarterback. Some
people think Aaron Rodgers was the greatest quarterback right of
all time, even though he doesn't have the rings, and
so that's got to be hard to swallow the pill
that you are no.
Speaker 1 (12:40):
Longer that when you don't have your fastball. It's tough.
Speaker 2 (12:42):
Yeah, like that's got to be hard, right, Like the.
Speaker 1 (12:44):
Pages had to tell Bill Belichick, Dude, you don't have
your fastball. It's gone. Yeah, you're throwing eighty.
Speaker 2 (12:49):
Seven and he's his hands are tied.
Speaker 1 (12:51):
So you know, hey, Clayton Kershaw don't have that fastball anymore. Man,
fastball is coming in eighty six, eighty seven. I don't
know about that. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (12:59):
I know he's having a good rehab. He's having a
good rehab.
Speaker 1 (13:02):
Now, can I tell you how weird it is to
see him throwing in an Oklahoma City Dodgers You how
odd is that? That's so odd?
Speaker 2 (13:08):
The only cool thing about those moments are the people
that get to go watch those games. Oh really, you
know it's like at least you get to watch Kershaw here,
Like those are the cool moments, but.
Speaker 1 (13:16):
Your biggest baseball thrill your life, live my whole life
in Oklahoma City. Got to see Clayton Kershaw pitch middle
of April twenty twenty five. That's right, got it? Does?
Speaker 2 (13:23):
I mean, come on, that's gotta be a cool moment.
But yeah, it's it's happening. But I don't think it's
because he wants it.
Speaker 1 (13:29):
It's oh no, of course he would love to be
able to keep because he realized very late in his career,
Oh wow, I'm the straw that stirs the drink when
I say matters. And he didn't really, that didn't hit
him until he was thirty six years old, like wow, oh,
I can control narratives and all by saying I don't
know if Green Bay is the place for me. Oh whoa, whoa,
whoa whoa. The last four years he's had the fast
lane absolutely been all about Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
Really happen?
Speaker 1 (13:52):
What's late? And my wait, man, I want to go back.
I want to go back ten years and do it again.
Like everybody has their regrets. I bet you Tom Brady,
if you asked him and said, hey, what's your biggest regret,
he would say, I wish I would have left the
Patriots ten years before I did that. I would have
left after the first ten years and gone and played
someplace else. Because the funny had in Tampa winning the
Super Bowl, being able to talk and give his opinions
and not worry about dealing with Belichick every day, like, hey,
(14:14):
I won and it was great, But I wish I
would have done that. I mean, look, Rogers, I'm sure
has come to that point where I know I'm not
this guy. I know I understand that, but boy, I
think I can still. It's a lot to happen, and
it's good that he's thinking about it, But boy, I
like ninety five percent he is done and hanging it up.
Speaker 2 (14:31):
He did sound like that, especially as like I'm in
a committed relationship or a big relationship. I've got other things,
other commitments that I you know, don't want to flake on. Essentially,
I'm giving you a paraphrase, but.
Speaker 1 (14:43):
He mentioned that going back to Egypt again, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (14:45):
Literally what I thought it when I read.
Speaker 1 (14:47):
That quote the pyramids.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
Yeah, okay, so you seem busy, you seem like you're
you're ready to step away, but forced, not force, but
you get it. It's just like it's it's happening in
a live time.
Speaker 1 (15:00):
No, I want to just real quick because I think
this is a great idea. Just hit me right now,
big money making idea. Okay, do you think you could
make more money?
Speaker 4 (15:07):
Like?
Speaker 1 (15:07):
I know because some of our friends actually just went
to Egypt. Now, what one of my daughter's teachers, who
we've been very close with is in Egypt with her family,
and I'm wondering, could you have a could you do
an escape room in one of the pyramids, like in
King Tut's pyramid, Could you do an escape room and
you have to get out? It's and it's instead of
(15:28):
the one room where you have to fail. It's just no,
you're you're in. You're in the pyramid and you have
to escape.
Speaker 2 (15:33):
Yeah, you're gonna escape on a different part of Dubai,
like you're gonna end up somewhere else. Those things are giant.
There is no end is right out here. There's no
end in sight. I don't think the story on those
pyramids sounds incredible, Like it just seems like it's they
don't know how deep they actually go.
Speaker 1 (15:53):
Yeah no, no, no, yeah, crazy escape room pyramids.
Speaker 2 (15:55):
You're never getting out. No, this is it. If you
go into the pyramid, you're not you're not going out.
Speaker 1 (16:00):
That's a lot of money, man, that's a lot of money.
Or it's or it's or it's a movie like that
could be a movie where hey, I did this and
then it turns out like hey, you.
Speaker 2 (16:07):
Know that the mummies step into a pyramid.
Speaker 1 (16:09):
Yeah, yeah, you don't know, and you you you, you know.
You do something and you activate like the mummies and
they come to life and they're getting after you. Except
the mummies are fast, they don't just go run after Yeah. Yeah,
the world wars e mummies. Yeah yeah, very good. All right,
we got to, I think, get in touch with sci
fi networks. I'm gonna they'll buy this right away.
Speaker 2 (16:29):
I think so too.
Speaker 1 (16:29):
Pat and pending, Pat and pending, pat and pending. Longtime
NBA inside a long time front of the show. You
can follow him on Twitter at the steinline. That is,
at the Stein line. It's Mark Stein. What's happening? Man?
How are you?
Speaker 5 (16:41):
I am good? I hope everybody there is good?
Speaker 1 (16:45):
So is everybody better in Dallas? After winning the game
last night and every ready to forgive Nico Harrison and Man?
I know the answers, no, But is anything better after
winning the game and getting set for the other game
tomorrow night?
Speaker 5 (16:57):
You've asked me the same question two weeks? How many
times are you gonna ask me this question? Well?
Speaker 1 (17:05):
I figure every time I ask you after a win,
things have to get better at some point, right.
Speaker 2 (17:12):
Listen, Mark, he doesn't get it, he doesn't get it.
Speaker 5 (17:18):
They need many many wins, many many many wins before
people around here field. But no, look, the players had
nothing to do with this. And there are still obviously
a lot of MAVs fans who want on court success
and they're going to celebrate wins. But I mean, it
(17:41):
doesn't last. It doesn't last too long after the buzzer.
Speaker 1 (17:45):
All right, but for tomorrow, so so for tomorrow's game,
at least they'll have the two and a half hours
of the game. John Morant questionable for this game tomorrow.
The Grizzlies coming off that really heartrending loss to the Warriors.
Is this a Mavericks win? Grizzlies get it done? And
how do you see this game more?
Speaker 5 (18:01):
I do kind of think Dallas is going to come
out of there with the win, because, yeah, the the
players are pretty motivated because the noise hasn't been fun
for them. I think they actually function better on the
road at this point because you know, there's so much
tension at and look, no home game, really that Luca
(18:25):
game is what was one of a kind, and not
every home game is like that. But to go out
on the road as a number ten seed, and you know,
take the whole US against the world approach. And look,
you know, they went into Sacramento and played some really
good defense. I mean they don't have They're very thin
(18:49):
at guard right now because you know, no Kyrie Irving
and the injuries they've had. But look, John Moran's going
to play. I think we know he's going to try,
but how effective can he realistically be? I mean that
ankle twist did not look good. So I do think
there is an opportunity here for the MAVs to win.
And let's face it, a number ten seed in the
(19:11):
history of the playan has never won the two games
you need to advance, and so both Miami and Dallas
have a chance to do it tomorrow and that spices
up the final day of the play in to some degree.
Speaker 2 (19:27):
So for Jason, the dark horse in the Western Conference
is the MAVs. Who is the dark horse in the
Eastern Conference?
Speaker 5 (19:34):
Mark Well, I mean, if we're going to widen the
widen the lens, and you know, look beyond just the play,
and I think, yes, trod Detroit in New York can
be an interesting series and Jason's not going to want
to hear that either. I don't. I don't think the
(19:54):
Pistons are going to win that series, but they have
absolutely nothing to lose, and it's going to be you
know there. I think this is the first time since
the year two thousand that both the Lions and the
Pistons made the playoffs in the same season. So people
in Detroit are really excited to have this opportunity. And
(20:14):
you know, we know Detroit is a very physical team.
You know, I do think the Knicks will win the series,
but I think they're gonna have to work. Sorry, Jason, Hey.
Speaker 1 (20:24):
I'm okay. Working to win is okay, as long as
it's not like last year's second round series where every
game we lose somebody because they get hurt. Now he
lost out or no, but now we're gonna lose this guy.
As long as that happens, I'm okay with it.
Speaker 5 (20:37):
Yeah, I mean, look, I think I think that's and
I have to say, I think Indiana Milwaukee is another
good first round matchup because those teams really don't like
each other. And the Bucks appeared to get some promising
news today with the you know, Damian Lillard has had
this very scary blood clot situation and he's working his
(21:00):
way back and they're not going to have him in
Game one, but now it looks like they are going
to get him back at some point in this series.
But it's funny, you know, we never talk about the Pacers.
Jason always asked me about the Mavericks. Never, I don't
think ever ever on the show asked me about the Pacers.
But if you really pay attention to it, since the
calendar flip to twenty twenty five, the Pacers have the
(21:22):
fourth best record in the league only the three sixty
win teams. Only OKC, Cleveland and Boston have been better
in the calendar year than the Pacers. They've really had
a strong second half finished, So I think I think
that series has a chance to be pretty good as well.
Speaker 1 (21:38):
NBA insider Mark Stein our guest here on Fox Sports Radio,
All right, now, you had a really big bit today.
I saw this on Twitter that sources were telling you that, hey,
maybe it seemed like a FATA complete with the with
the with the Phoenix Suns want to you know, blow
torch things and start over next year, and everybody wants
to put Kevin Durant on the Rockets. You have reported
(21:59):
not so fast to the Rockets.
Speaker 5 (22:02):
Yeah, that's it's really been a constant conversation all season,
and the reason is because you know, the Rockets have
control of multiple future first round picks, So if you're
the Sons, naturally you'd want to get picks back if
you're going to be trading Kevin Durant. So I'm I
have no doubt that on the Son's wish list. If
(22:22):
the Sons are really going to trade Kevin Durant, they
would love to do it with the Houston Rockets. And
that is not to it's not meant to suggest. I
mean the Rockets obviously, you know who doesn't like Kevin Durant.
And Ema Udoka, their coach, is close to Kevin Durant.
He coached him as an assistant in Brooklyn, and they're tight.
And you know it's not it's not a matter of
(22:44):
the Rockets are not that they don't admire Kevin Durant.
But the reality is the messaging out of Houston has
been consistent all year long. The next major move they make.
The first message was it's not going to be in season.
They're not going to make a big in season change,
and they held firm to that. That didn't happen. They
didn't want to do anything. They wanted to let this
(23:05):
team have it the whole season to see what it
could do. And the message has also been that when
the Rockets do strike big, the next big move we
see from the Rockets, they wanted to be for someone
who was on the same timeline, or at least closer
to the same timeline as all these great young players
(23:26):
that they have amassed. And you know, they have a
slew of guys who are you know, twenty three and younger.
So Kevin Durant is a Hall of Famer, but you
know he's also in his mid thurgeons. That's not the
kind of target that I think Houston is going to
be trying to acquire in its next big trade, and
certainly not giving up the super valuable draft capital that
(23:46):
they've been able to get from Phoenix. So you know,
they would have been interested in Donovan Mitchell, but Donovan
Mitchell never made us the open market. The Cavs successfully
signed Donovan Mitchell on a contract extension. But you know,
it keeps coming up, and part of the reason it
comes up today, you know, Phoenix, matt Ishpia, James Jones,
(24:07):
Josh Bartlestein, they all spoke, they all did an end
of the season media availability, and the Suns did not
deny what is talked about pretty openly throughout the league.
The expectation around the league is that the Sons will
work with Kevin Durant to try to find him a
new home via trade that he likes, and people just
(24:27):
constantly connects Katie to Houston, I think largely because of
his relationship with ima Udoka. But I just I don't
see the Rockets giving up a slew of assets to
bring in Kevin Durant at this stage in his career.
I think the Rockets are going into a series. I mean,
talk about a really interesting matchup. You've got this young Houston, young, hungry, athletic,
(24:52):
defensive minded Houston team. Yes they've got Van Vliet and
Brooks and Steven Adams, but you know, there's not a
lot of experience into their playoff wise for their main
young guys going up against the Warriors, who obviously have
tons of experience. I mean, this is really going to
be going to it's gone for the Rockets. This is
(25:13):
going to be like going to playoff university to play
the Warriors. Even though the Rockets are the two seed
and the Warriors of the seventh seed. I mean that series.
You know, same thing in the West. You know two seven, Houston,
Golden State, four or five, Nuggets and Clippers, Lakers and
Wolves three six, and we have some really good first
round matchups.
Speaker 2 (25:34):
Mark another player that's maybe on the trade block, Zion
Williamson and the Pelicans. How much truth is behind that?
And also what is his real value? He has not
played many games throughout his career for various reasons. He
was a number one overall pick, but what is his
real value? What is a possible destination for Zion Williamson?
(25:56):
What do you think.
Speaker 5 (25:58):
You're starting to make me miss Jason's questions? Was a
question that hard because I can't, I don't. I mean
that it is a really hard question. I mean, you
just laid out exactly why. I mean, you know, if
if the Pelicans are going to move him, because he's
a former number one overall pick, they're obviously going to
try to get a quote haul for him. But how
(26:20):
can they win? Four out of the six seasons that
he's been in the NBA, he has not passed the
thirty game mark in terms of games play. So I
think Joe Dumars is going to go in there and
you know, try to get the best read he can.
Will he come to the conclusion that the best move
is trading Zion Williams in pre presumably what he can
(26:43):
get back in terms you know, you know, can he
get a haul back and if he can't, maybe they
decide to bring him back and retool around. I mean,
the one, you know, the Pelicans, one thing they have
going for them, even though they had an absolutely miserable
season filled with injuries. Again, I mean, they started four
in twenty nine, and everyone on their team was heard.
(27:06):
It was not just Zion this season. Jean Say Murray
broke his hand in his Pelicans' debut and it was
just nothing but injuries after that for the whole first
half and even beyond the first half. There is a
lot of talent there. I mean, the Pelicans do have
a lot of optionality because they have a lot of
good players and though there's a lot of different directions
(27:27):
they can go in terms of how to build their team.
But I mean to tell to be able to pinpoint
for you exactly what kind of offer, what kind of
market the Pelicans could generate for Zion Williamson. I think
that is one of the foremost tasks that Joe Dumar's
faces now in taking on this job.
Speaker 1 (27:47):
He's on Twitter at the Steinline. That is at the Steinline.
Check out all his latest on Kevin Durant, that story
involving that may or may not involve the Rockets substack
as well. Mark has always appreciated, enjoyed the games. We'll
talk to you next week.
Speaker 5 (28:01):
And just to be clear, I only came on the
show because Brianna is a Titan.
Speaker 1 (28:04):
Talk to you guys next week. Oh, Monty is a
Titan to Mark, really.
Speaker 5 (28:11):
See, I mean this is info I needed. So two
thirds of the cast has the proper pedigree. You will
work on We'll work on this.
Speaker 1 (28:24):
I'll try Mark, I'll try take it easybody, you guy. Yeah,
I didn't know that. So everybody here went to cal
State Fullerton apparently apparently apparently you went and and Brianna went.
Tysher didn't go to college. He went to defraud Institute Technology.
No that's not true. No, you went to and at
the end they gave you your own set of tools.
I didn't qualify trying to get in. Oh okay, all right,
(28:45):
all right. Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with

of version posted right after we get off the air.
This music can only mean one thing. It is timed
to head to Vegas. Welcome inside. Longtime friend of the show,
He's on Twitter at Todd Furman. You can find him
(29:28):
everywhere in Las Vegas, just giving out gambling advice on
the street Corner. You can also see him on CBS
and check out his bet the Board podcast as well. Todd,
what's happening man? How are you? I'm doing well.
Speaker 4 (29:41):
But the one place you won't find me is at
WrestleMania come Sunday. I leave that to the rest of
the folks that are invading our town to take part
in that marquee event. But everywhere else not so far
from the truth.
Speaker 1 (29:52):
My friend now wait a minute, you're not gonna see a.
Harmon's there with his two brothers. He's gonna need you
to bail the three of them out of jail.
Speaker 4 (29:59):
I mean, look, I got to good bail bondsman, as
anybody who lives in Las Vegas does. But it doesn't
mean I'm necessarily going to call in any favors for
Harmon his brothers. Let's let's not checkercoat things here, Smith.
Speaker 1 (30:08):
I mean, I thought you would do something for me
because if you don't do it, Harmon's not getting out.
Speaker 4 (30:13):
Oh that's a good chance that he can pay for
his sins. And he then produced pretty much everything else.
You know, he can sit in to sell and think
about his transgressions should he decide he wants to operate
in the gray.
Speaker 1 (30:24):
Wow, I'll tell you so far. What I'm taking away
from this is Todd Furman wants Mike Harmon incarcerated at
any level, any costs.
Speaker 4 (30:31):
I didn't quite code that far. I said, if firm
digs himself a hole, he should think about his decisions
and or poor choices, and then inevitably we can bail
him out.
Speaker 1 (30:39):
All right, Monsa, you can do the show next week
when break me here, all right. So now look, before
we get to the NBA tomorrow night and this weekend,
we've seen a lot of drama the last couple of
days with the NFL Draft and maybe teams leaving breadcrumbs.
You had cam Ward when he was asked to his
favorite wide receivers and running backs were in the NFL,
mentioned everybody that the type have The Browns have done
(31:02):
everything but say, we're not taking a quarterback at number two.
So it looks like that's Travis Hunter. Three is where
maybe the draft starts, where maybe that Shador Sanders. What
are you seeing in Vegas as far as how the
first three picks are right now?
Speaker 4 (31:15):
I mean, if you believe what the Betty market's telling you,
you're exactly right. Cam Wort's coming off the board number one,
And anybody who puts Treylon Burks as his fourth best
receiver in the NFL is trying to curry favor with
the team that is going to give him his first
professional contract. So I think that's a done deal. And
then it gets a little bit more interesting. Travis Hunter
is still an overwhelming favorite to come off the board
at number two. To Cleveland. You have to put up
(31:36):
seven dollars to make a dollar coming back for him
to be the two way star there with the Brownies.
Abdul Carter an overwhelming favorite to be at the Giants
pick at number three, right around minus four twenty. But
the Giants have clearly been kicking the tires on quarterbacks.
But I think you mentioned reading the tea leaves it
begs the question would the Giants use a third overall
(31:57):
pick the draft shador standers or is it something there
considering a little bit later in the first round as
his stock appears to be falling amongst NFL general managers.
In my opinion, the draft really doesn't start until you
get to pick four and pick five, where Will Campbell
is a heavy favorite to come off the board at four,
And then the Jacksonville Jaguars become the most intriguing team
(32:17):
we've seen. Money coming in on Ashton Genty to be
their pick at number five. But I actually like the
game of liars poker they're playing. If you believe that
a team is nervous about Genty not being there when
they're going to pick, tell the whole world that you're
taking action gentem number five and hope people want to
blow your socks off to try and trade up into
that particular spot.
Speaker 1 (32:36):
All right, So I know you're kind of playing around here,
because that the big question mark is going to be
where should Door Sanders ends up. If I said to you,
complete the sentence, Todd, you know what you've seen, what
you've hear, what your gut tells you. At the end
of the day, Shador Sanders gets drafted by who you.
Speaker 4 (32:53):
Know, A lot of people pointing to the Saints to
I'm not sure I necessarily buy that. If I had
to pick a team, I think the Giants are very
much play but I don't think it happens with that
third overall pick. When the Giants decide they want to
schedule a private workout, it tells you that they may
be a little bit more serious about trying to bring
in a quarterback that can serve as the heir apparent
to the comedy duo that we'll see with Russell Wilson
(33:15):
and Jameis Winston. The way things look right now, but
it makes an awful lot of sense the Giants would
be kicking the tires on a player like Shador. Maybe
they go a direction of Jackson's dark I just don't
get the feeling, even with an offensive minded first year
head coach and Kellen Moore, that the Saints are going
to go all in with that ninth overall pick. For
shador standers, it doesn't feel like that's the direction a
(33:36):
team wants to go where they know they have so
many other holes they have to fill as they try
and navigate through a little bit of salary.
Speaker 2 (33:42):
Cap health Todd Tomorrow, you know, we have two NBA
playing games left before we officially head into the playoffs.
What are the chances that we're going to see two
ten seeds advance?
Speaker 4 (33:55):
The interesting number when we look at the Heat and
the Hawks Miami now a slight road favored in that game.
And I think my biggest takeaway is how poor was
the NBA's Southeast Division. That everybody gets to play in
these playing games and isn't guaranteed much, but it's hard
to argue with what we've seen from Eric Spolster coaching
in these single elimination type games. You have to imagine
he'll have his boys locked in and their comments coming
(34:17):
out of their dominant performance against the Bulls, you know,
kind of open eye, said that they felt like they
were going to play with a chip on their shoulder,
and I can understand why Miami has moved into the
short favorite role. The Western Conference game a little bit
more intrigue though, despite Memphis being a six point favorite.
John Moran of course didn't practice today dealing with the
ankle injury. He's a gamer and I expect him to
be out there, but it's anybody's best guess how effective
(34:39):
he'll be and if he's able to log a normal workload.
Credit Dallas, I mean they went on the road to Sacramento,
dominated that game, winning outright as a five and a
half six point dog, and I wouldn't rule out Dallas
getting similar performances from Anthony Davis and Klay Thompson with
a little bit of championship pedigree being able to go
on the road for the second time in just a
handful of days, pull off the upset and set up
(34:59):
a very intro sting first round matchup where the thunder,
of course, would be overwhelming favorite Todd.
Speaker 1 (35:04):
If I wanted to bet, and I put the over
under it five years, You're.
Speaker 4 (35:08):
Not parlay Okay, next with the mats and the no no,
no championship in the same count No not.
Speaker 1 (35:12):
Yet we'll get We'll get to the next don't worry,
we'll get to the next time. We'll get to the next.
But if I wanted to say, put the over under
it five years and take the over for when we'll
stop hearing fire Nico chance five years.
Speaker 4 (35:25):
I mean, look, I think eventually, when he does ultimately
get fired, then the Dallas Mavericks fans will feel somewhat validated.
So I'm gonna go under on that. But the fact
that Niko's getting blindsided by his ownership group for behind
behind closed doors roundtable discussions not exactly a ringing endorsement
that Nico is going to be the general manager rushing
in a new era. I given everything that's gone on,
(35:47):
so clearly the storyline that nobody wants to pay attention
to in Dallas, but no doubt has dominated the headlines.
Speaker 2 (35:55):
Todd, who do you like in the NBA Finals?
Speaker 1 (35:58):
Nix and who Nickers? I'm going with that.
Speaker 4 (36:03):
I'm not going to make a case for a Knicks
Lakers NBA Final, despite plenty of TV executives I'm sure
that would be drooling over that particular matchup. I know
Oklahoma City is such a heavy favorite in the Western Conference,
but I think their road is going to be a
little bit more treacherous than what the numbers suggest. If
the Clippers can get through Denver, they can pose some problems.
If we assume that Kawhi Leonard is actually able to
(36:24):
stay healthy for multiple playoff series. I think the Lakers
are going to have their hands full potentially with the
Minnesota Timberwolves as well. We'll figure out what Minnesota does
to kind of hide Rudy Gobert's defensive deficiencies so he
doesn't get eaten alive by Luca And like the Timberwolves
did last year. But in terms of the East, I'll
take the chalk until Cleveland proves that they can beat
(36:44):
a fully entrenched Boston Celtics team. I think Boston has
just kind of been playing with their food over the
course of the regular season. They're going to find that
next gear. And I believe Boston represents the East, and
for argument's sake, I'm in the West. You know, I
will take the chalk. I'll say Boston again to Oklahoma City. No,
I'm not exactly going out on a limb there by
any stretch.
Speaker 1 (37:04):
He's on ax at Todd Ferman, that is, at Todd
Ferman that Bet the Board podcast, seehim on CBS as well,
and not bailing Mike Harmon and his brothers out of
jail if they need it this weekend. You're the guy
you would walk by with a stack of money in
your hand and go ah, smell this money, boys, and
you would just walk out.
Speaker 4 (37:21):
Hey, look, every now and again you gotta trace, stay
true to your image. And if I'm caught bailing out
harm that didn't give me a whole lot of street credit.
Speaker 1 (37:30):
Take it easy, buddy, We'll talk to you next week.
Speaker 4 (37:32):
Always fun, guys, have a great weekend. Enjoy the opening
round of the NBA Playoffs.
Speaker 1 (37:36):
All right, there goes Todd Furman. My Mavericks, Monsey. It
doesn't even matter that the Bulls let me down so much.
I mean being right about the MAVs. Hey here, they
come most at stake this week of any team in
the playing round. They can start to flip the narrative
from Nico sucks and and I'm never gonna root for
the Mavericks again. They can own this week and suddenly
(37:59):
start the healing, and Mavericks fans and the NBA will think, well,
maybe the Mavericks are as screwed as we think they are.
They won last night, big game from a d big
game from Klay Thompson. I think they have one more
in them tomorrow. We don't know a healthy Jahn Morant
is gonna be and they're coming off a game where
they gave it away at the very end. Uh yeah,
(38:20):
my Dallas Mavericks, My ten seed Mavericks.
Speaker 2 (38:23):
You're so sweet. They lose millions of fans, but here
you are supporting the MAVs. I just look, look, you're
so sweet.
Speaker 1 (38:30):
Well, look at the teams I picked in New York, right,
I couldn't. I should have picked the Giants and the Yankees.
But instead no, I picked the Mets and the Jets
because I'm stupid. Is just gonna have a life unfulfilled.
Yeah that's great, Okay, Yeah, I should have picked the
Giants and the Yankees. With the Mets and the Jets,
so I go for the I go with the underdogs.
Why not.
Speaker 2 (38:47):
I'm a Clippers fan and a Chargers fan.
Speaker 1 (38:48):
I here you yeah, but okay, you're a Clippers fan, right,
a long Clippers fan. Right? What are you wearing right now?
What are you wearing right now?
Speaker 2 (38:57):
I'm wearing a Kobe Bryant sweatshirt. Okay, you bought web
after a Clippers game. Okay, that's the best part of
the story. But it after a Clippers game.
Speaker 1 (39:08):
You went to a Clippers game. Yes, left crypto, walk
past the people selling the sausage and peppers. It smells
so good. So about two blocks after where it was
where it's Lakers hoodies twenty five dollars, Lakers twenty five dollars.
Speaker 2 (39:21):
And I said, I'll take two because she wants one.
She doesn't realize it. Well, who were they playing, Breeze, Oh, you.
Speaker 1 (39:27):
Bought one for Brianna too.
Speaker 2 (39:28):
Okay, we went to the Timberwolves Slippers to the Timberwolves
Clippers game. That's coming out of Oh it's a little random.
Speaker 1 (39:34):
Yeah, and you and you bought Lakers game. Okay, but it's.
Speaker 2 (39:38):
It's it's you know, after he you know, wins his
championships and it's the old school Kobe.
Speaker 1 (39:44):
Yeah, no, no, that's cool, that's cool. But I am
not going to a Mets game walking out of city
Field and buying an err in judge Jersey. I'm not
doing it. I mean, unless I'm gonna, unless I'm gonna,
unless I would buy it for my dad as a present,
or to cut it up and then give it to
him as a present, which probably what I would do
because an Aaron Juddy picks it up and it's who
falls apart? Oh sorry, dad as an Aaron Judge T shirt.
Speaker 2 (40:06):
Sorry, that's so funny. Thank you for bringing that up
to the listeners. Appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (40:11):
That's okay, that's okay. You work for the Dodgers, I do.
Do you go to Dodgers and when you leave, do
you walk outside of Chavez Ravine and buy a Mike
Trout T shirt? Shirts?
Speaker 5 (40:20):
Anyway?
Speaker 2 (40:20):
Because that's not happening there. That's not happening.
Speaker 1 (40:22):
Oh, they're not far. Do you have to go?
Speaker 2 (40:25):
Oh, you got to get in the car on the freeway,
drive a couple of miles and then you'll get there.
Speaker 1 (40:29):
So that's how you do that.
Speaker 2 (40:30):
That's what you have to do.
Speaker 1 (40:31):
You come out of the Dodgers game and then you
go buy your Angels here a couple of miles.
Speaker 2 (40:34):
No, it's just crypto. Staples is a house that Kobe built,
which is why people are out there.
Speaker 5 (40:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (40:40):
No, it's great, it's awesome.
Speaker 2 (40:41):
It's awesome.
Speaker 1 (40:42):
But you're a Clippers fan.
Speaker 2 (40:43):
I am a Clippers fans, allegedly.
Speaker 1 (40:45):
I think you're a Lakers fan. I hate I think
you're I think you're really a Lakers I really I
hate you walked out and dropped half a Franklin on
to this Lakers hoodies. Neither of you are Lakers fan.
Speaker 2 (40:57):
But it's it's a respect to Kobe.
Speaker 1 (41:00):
Respect to Kobe.
Speaker 2 (41:01):
I do that we did purchase this on a year ago,
like we just bought it. It was like a year ago.
Speaker 1 (41:06):
That's not just that that's a year ago.
Speaker 2 (41:11):
In a relation to to how long I've been a
Clippers fan. It's out of respect for Kobe, right.
Speaker 1 (41:16):
And then and then you bought a hat. I didn't
you bought Lakers socks.
Speaker 2 (41:20):
We bought was the sweatshirts? Two sweatshirts?
Speaker 1 (41:23):
Is that the only Lakers gear either of you owns?
Tell the truth? Truth?
Speaker 2 (41:30):
But okay, but that's not fair because Steve Nash was
a Laker.
Speaker 1 (41:35):
Okay, is it a Steve Nash Lakers gear?
Speaker 2 (41:37):
I guess I guess that's a little bit more acceptable.
Speaker 1 (41:40):
Okay, I'm not proud of it.
Speaker 2 (41:42):
My friend Natalie, who should know me so well, bought
me a Lakers shirt. She was like, I know you're
a Clippers fan, but look at how cute. And I
was like, Ntali, I can't, I can't wear that.
Speaker 1 (41:52):
Was it a Lou Williams jersey played for both of them?
Speaker 2 (41:54):
No, it was a T shirt and it was like
a little crap top and it was black and it
had like at the top. Super cute and you have that.
Speaker 1 (42:01):
No, I give it.
Speaker 2 (42:02):
I gave it to Ryan Berschinger to give to his fiance.
I was like, will she wear this? Because I was like,
I can't wear this. It's just Lakers. There's no player.
It was like the Laker logo everywhere. My friend, I
know you're a Clippers fan, but I thought this was
really cute.
Speaker 1 (42:17):
I don't know. You just spent the last three minutes
telling about two Lakers things. You got his presence one
you bought.
Speaker 2 (42:23):
Yeah again respect to Kobe.
Speaker 1 (42:25):
All right, No, no, and I'm down with that. I'm
absolutely down with that.
Speaker 5 (42:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (42:28):
I'm also down with what's trending in the wide world
of sports, especially since the biggest game of the night
the Mets win.
Speaker 2 (42:35):
The Mets win, and right right, no, no, no, I
actually have breaking news for you. You do, Yeah is retiring
from gymnastics at Lsu.
Speaker 1 (42:46):
Whoa, she's not going to be a gymer.
Speaker 2 (42:48):
She literally tweeted, peace out gymnastics. It's been real and
of course forever LSU and a heart. She tweeted thistes ago.
Speaker 1 (42:57):
Well, she's been hurt. I know, I know she's been hurt.
Speaker 2 (43:00):
Yeah, but I think this is I mean this is yeah.
I think she's officially saying we done here.
Speaker 1 (43:04):
Wow. Yeah. And then my favorite, he's an influencer. Now
she's an influence.
Speaker 2 (43:08):
Lily, I love Someone's comment says, tell Paul I love
him and good night.
Speaker 1 (43:14):
Wow, that's it Paul Skins.
Speaker 2 (43:16):
Yep, tell Paul I love him and good night. That
was a comment on that.
Speaker 1 (43:19):
That was okay, Hey, give me a favorite. Hey, sorry,
you can't play anymore. You're done. Hey, tell Paul he's awesome.
That mustache is great, said boy, that fastball is really something.
Speaker 2 (43:27):
Yes, I love him, Thank you so much.
Speaker 1 (43:29):
Hey can you get me that card that was signed
that that kid paid that money for? Can I can
I get that card? No?
Speaker 2 (43:34):
Can I go in your suite? You offered the suite?
Can I join you in the suite? Actually that's what
I want to do. Let me done. If you're listening,
to the show. I would love to go sit with
you in your suite, all right, yes, back to you, Okay,
back to your Mets. Yes. They topped the Cardinals four
to one despite Juan Soto's performance, but Mark Biento's had
a nice homer in that Corey Seeger had a four
(43:55):
hundred and twenty seven foot homer as the Rangers completed
a three games sweep the Angels. Final score was five
to three. The Yankees top the Raise six to three.
Ben Rice was four of four at one point, ended
four of five, but broke the tie gave them the
lead they held on they wanted. The Tigers had a
six to one win over the Royals, and the Orioles
defeated the Guardian six to two. Ryan O'Hearn had a
(44:18):
three run shot in the win. About a week away
from the NFL Draft up, as we've been talking about, Jason,
and for the first time in history, a team is
gonna take their draft operations to a fire station. When
the LA Rams draft from the LA fire air operations,
I want them to go down the pole.
Speaker 1 (44:35):
Of course they will. Here comes the pick. It's bought
down the pole, down the pole, yeah, yeah, And then
he hands it off to somebody. It's like mousetrap somebody
who runs out, give to somebody who gets on the
big rig, and the and the and the ladder goes
up and the guy climbs all the way to the
top of the ladder and then he hands he hands
the pick in, and the guy announced at the very top, Oh, yeah,
here's the thing.
Speaker 2 (44:55):
If none of this is done, it's gonna be so disappointing.
Speaker 1 (44:57):
Yeah, you have to do something. End spend your fifteen
minutes making the pick.
Speaker 2 (45:02):
That way, absolutely totally worth it. Two NBA playing games
on Friday night, Heat and the Hawks that tips off
at seven Eastern, then the Mavericks and the Grizzlies that
tips off at nine thirty eastern. John Moran starved the
Grizzlies game time decision because of that rolled ankle. He
didn't even practice today. So we'll see Mavericks, Mavericks, Maverick,
(45:24):
Jason's Mavericks.
Speaker 1 (45:25):
Thanks a bunch by Yes Jason Smith moonse in from
Mike Harmon tonight. Coming up next, we get back into
a big story out of the NFL today. Keep it
right here. This guy spoke today and I'm telling you
we've never heard anything in his whole career like what
he had to say a few hours ago. That's next.
