(00:47):
a little under the weather. Then for Jason Smith that
is best friend Mike Harmon wants to get to a
busy night great sports talk radio night. Help hope everybody
in joining your first day at twenty nine team, you
know real quick, and I want to start with this.
This is always sound about fifteen twenty minutes ago. Uh,
(01:10):
the young man Tyler Trent, the produced super fan. You
may have seen him in the news. The young man
who was battling a very serious illness. Um would follow
Purdue around, go to the games. Um, inspiration to many
many people. Really a hero. Um, I gotta tell you
a grout inspiration from him, to see his fight. He
(01:31):
has passed away today. So I just want to say, um,
you know, our thoughts and prayers go out to his
family and friends. There's really not much you can say
other than this kid was just so courageous and so
inspirational and the way he fought to the end, and
he wanted to see his beloved Purdue team, you know,
(01:51):
play football. And you know, I remember the home game
he was at, and of course he was at the
bowl game him. Uh, just you know, very emotional day.
So um, again, our thoughts and prayers do go out
to the family and friends of Tyler Trenty produced super
fan who quite a hero to many, inspiration too many. Um,
(02:12):
you know, God rest in peace. So I just wanted
to go and say that. But our job is to
do the show. Uh. It is the first day of January.
It is a new year. Uh it is on this Tuesday.
If you want to get him a stinkin genius one.
If you want to make a comment, s T I
N K I M Genius G E N I U S.
And the number one. We got a busy hour for you.
(02:33):
Alex Marvezga to stop by at the bottom of the hour,
serious x M NFL radio host, so we'll talk to him.
You know, I want to start with this, you know,
not because now that we're in the first day of
January twenty nineteen New year, and of course I'm seeing
all the news about Antonio Brown and the blow up
that he had with Ben Roethlisberger and whether he requested
(02:53):
a trade or not, or if he demanded a trade
or not, or if he politely asked for a trade
or not, or anything like that. You know, I think
twenty nineteen should be the year of no bs, you know,
the year of no divas in sports, because I gotta
be honest. If I'm if I'm owning the Pittsburgh Steelers
and I'm seeing this whole mess, and I see what's
(03:14):
going on, and I hear Antonio Brown, and he may
have come to me. Maybe it didn't come to me.
I don't know. And this guy's getting a hell of
a lot of money with the contract that he's got
if he wants to be traded, if he came up
to me and goes, you know what I would like
to be traded. I would sit back in my chair
and I would say, Okay, that's it, no problem, year
(03:39):
of no divas, that's it. You want to be traded,
Mr Brown, No problem. Now it's gonna be a little
bit tough. Of course, with the contract and the and
the penalties that's gonna happen to us and against the cap.
And I understand that. So you know before anybody starts
tweeting in you can't make this trade and you can't
make that trade. I understand scoring to be tough. It's
(04:01):
not even, and you're gonna have to take a cap hip.
But if it was even, if you could just say,
anybody want him for his current contract, and I'll take
a first round draft pick or a second round draft pick,
and it's not gonna kill me. Against the cap, I'd
chip him out. I I don't have patience for that anymore.
You were seven to and one, you missed the playoffs.
(04:21):
You dealt with a running back all year long that
didn't play for your one play and you don't need
this from a wide receiver if he doesn't want to
play for the Pittsburgh Steelers. If he feels like the
coaches too tight in or too tuned into the quarterback,
then goodbye. Don't let the door hit your backside on
the way out. Enough is enough. It's a new year,
(04:44):
it's twenty nine. Team. We gave you the contract you
wanted here, it was all the money in the world.
Knock yourself out and in return, this is what we
can fine. You know what, Hey, send me a postcard
from wherever we trade you or wherever you wind up.
(05:06):
Just just go. I gotta tell you, it's already the
first day of a new year, and I'm already losing
my patience with players like this. So I've got to move.
And I know people like, oh, yeah, you're gonna move
him out. You're gonna go ahead and get rid of
one of the most dynamic guys in all of the NFL. Yeah,
I am give me a first round pick, first and
(05:27):
the third, and you're out of here. I don't even
know if I'm gonna get in the first and the third.
But if somebody called me tomorrow said we'll take that
contract and and we'll give you a first and the third,
you're down. Where do I sign? Do I have to
get you an airrow. I take it because I'll put
your first class. I'll rent the airplane to send you
over there. Let's do it, let's do it. Enough is enough?
(05:50):
I am fed up, my friend. I gotta tell you.
So what do you do? If you're Pittsburgh? Do you
just say, hey, I don't care what you want. You're
gonna stay here. You better make up with Ben Roethlisberger
and everything should be good because we gotta worry about
next year and we're gonna start fresh. Do you say, hey,
this is the year of no divas, I the year
of no ps, the year of no drama. Whatever you
(06:12):
want the model to be. You're out of here. Goodbye,
We'll we'll trade you to Oakland if you've got to.
I I don't care, goodbye? Or or do you just go?
You know what when everything calmed down, what cooler heads
prevail and things should work themselves out when it's all
(06:35):
said and done. I don't know if I like that option,
to be honest with you, I'm not sure if I
like that. So you let me know if you want
to get in at stinking Genius one S T I
N K I am genius g n I U S
and the number one. What do you do if you're
the Pittsburgh Steelers, what do you do with that situation?
What do you do with Antonio Brown? And Look, there's
(06:57):
no doubt he's one of the most dynamic guys in
the NFL. And I'm sure there's a lot of teams
I would love to have him. Could you imagine if
the New York Giants somehow can get him and afford
that contract along with Odell Beckham Jr's contract. Could you
imagine having wide receivers like that, a young running back
like say Kwan Barkley, and once Eli Manning's gone, getting
(07:20):
the young quarterback of your dreams? Oh my goodness it
I get goose buck just thinking about that. If I
was a Giant fan, which I am, that'd be unbelievable.
But do you need the attitude? You know, there's been
other wide receivers that have given that attitude that hasn't
worked out with them. Real well, des Bryant, I don't
(07:41):
want to mention names. I don't want to mention names.
So you tell me, you know, can you just say, oh,
you can't trade him now you're being a hothead? Or
do you just go ahead and say you know what, hey,
what slow down? Or maybe you do want to ship
him out? If you're a Pittsburgh fan, you tell me
so you can call him tonight to tonight so good
(08:02):
night to call him eight seven seven ninety nine eight
seven seven nine six six six nine, or once again,
stinking genius one if you want to go ahead and
send me a tweet, So we'll do that right. A
whole bunch of other stuff I want to get to.
I'm watching the game right now, Texas leading Georgia twenty
to seven, less than two minutes left in the first half.
(08:23):
Georgia with the ball, so they're trying to go and
get some points before halftime. This this was all Texas
out to a seventeen nothing lead, and I was waiting, going,
oh my goodness, wait till the end of the game
and then we'll start with the Georgia. Oh yeah, you
really felt like you should have been in that four
team playoff. You really felt like you were one of
(08:44):
the four best teams out there. Yeah, maybe not so fast,
but they're making a come back. They're actually driving, they're
in field goal range, but they want to get seven.
So it's twenty two seven Texas leading in Texas has
been playing a heck of a game. I've got to
give them a lot of credit. I didn't see this coming.
(09:04):
I thought Georgia was just gonna just destroy this team.
You know. I want to say about today. January one
used to be one of the best days of for
college football. It's a day that you would get up,
you get yourself reddy like it was the NFL playoffs,
and you enjoy all the big ball games out there.
The rose ball looked phenomenal. I mean, what a setting.
(09:27):
The place look pack uh, the weather looked just fantastic.
The fans look like they were into it. The only
problem is that now that we had the semifinal games already,
it didn't have that buzz today. It didn't have that spark.
All day today, you were watching the games, but it
(09:48):
felt like you didn't have anything invested. That there was
purely for exhibition, like we were watching preseason NFL football.
Nothing was really at stake. It wasn't like, well, if
this team wins, they can sell a shot at being
voted in National champs or something like that. All that
is gone with the four team playoff, even though it
(10:09):
would look like a great crowd, and it was a
great crowd at the rose Ball and it would just
look like a fantastic and a lot of fun and
ended up being a close game. It still isn't the same. Uh,
January one is no longer the same? Like what? And
I don't want to sad? Yeah, you know, I don't
even give it. Damn if I sound like old guy
with my fifth in the air, say get off by lawn.
(10:30):
That's a new thing for twenty nineteen for me. I
don't care what anybody thinks of me. I don't even
care that. That's my my new Year's resolution for twenty nineteen.
Don't give it. Damn. When anybody fifth they think I'm old,
then I'm old. But but but enough is enough? So
eight seven seven ninety eight seven seven nine six six nine.
(10:51):
Actually I spoke too soon. They worn in field goal range.
You're gonna have to pump so Texas gonna get the
ball back. I don't know if they're gonna have time
to score about a minute left or on their own
ted and uh they lead twenty to seven, so uh
not good field position for them right now. Also, Central
Florida put up a good fight today. They end up
losing the game winning streak is gone. They lose to
(11:15):
l s U thirty to twenty two. Now, I know
there was a lot of people that thought that Central
Florida was the real deal. What does it tell you
about the game today? Does it say Central Florida is
the real deal and should excuse me? They lost forty
to thirty two. I don't know what I said. I met.
(11:35):
Forty two doesn't show that they're the real deal and
that they could play if they were in a four
or eight team playoff. Or do you say no, no, no, no,
Look what l SU did. They had four hundred yards passing,
about a hundred and sixty yards rushing. Uh, Central Forida
had less than one hundred yards passing. Didn't really move
(11:55):
the ball. But bottom line is the final score forty two.
Did Central Florida prove that they could play with the
big boys? Or you kind of laughing now going no way,
no how, no way that this team could play with
the big boys now and they proved it today. I
don't know. I gotta tell you, when you only lose
(12:16):
by eight, I don't care what the stats say, how
much you're alkane, it shows that you had a chance
to win. And I've been tough on Central Florida. I've
been real tough on them. Maybe I was wrong. Maybe
look at least maybe they should be given a chance.
If we ever had an eight team playoff, maybe that
they should be included. And that's why we should go
(12:38):
from four to eight. This four is just horrible. Did
you see the ticket sales for the final between Alabama
and Clemson up in Santa Clara. It's gone from like
four fifty dollars down to a little bit over two
d per ticket. That's a long way to go for
the Alabama fans and the Clemson fans. I mean, who
the hect wants to go all the way up to
(12:59):
northern Cali a Fornia. You know, when you're down in Alabama,
when you're down at Clemson, how many people can afford
that take the time off. And it's not like it's
the holidays anymore, right, You're you're talking a week after
January one, So who's got that time except rich people
or people that aren't working, or students that are ditching school.
(13:21):
And that's a long way to go. That's why ticket
prices are dropping. And I'll get to that also, but
you've got to do something about it. That's why if
we go from four to eight, we can get back
on home campuses, which is what we desperately need right
so much to get you to I'm gonna get the
Twitter Aaron Torres with the night off. I think he's
got scurvy? Is that what he has? Guys? Whereas leading
(13:43):
a lot my producer tonight? Why did did my hot
takes make him sick? Or did he have scurvy? Or
or what's wrong with Torres tonight? Little scurvy? I know
for effects he did not go celebrate the New Year's
uh in style, so yeah he he was. It might
have been scurvy. Like you said, you know, I think
you millennials don't know how to hold your poos. I
(14:04):
think you went out party and yeah, I think you
went out party in last night for New Year's catch
the last hour, and that's what you get. You get
a little hangover. You don't know how to hold your liquor.
Lots to get to We're gonna come back. I want
to go and touch on Lincoln Riley, but he gets
an extension, so we'll have that. And what happens when
(14:24):
you get a bull and a dog together. I don't
think that's a good idea. Artie sitting in for Jason
Smith and his best friend Mike Harman right here on
sports or Radio Many New Yeah. Be sure to catch
live editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harman
weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific on Fox

From a hot balloon landing on a car to a
load of concrete falling on one, we've covered it. Talk
to farmers. We know a thing or two. Because we've
(15:07):
seen a thing or two. We are farmers under written.
My farmers took fire, insureance, exchanges and affiliates products unavailable
in every state. Alright, good evening, everyone, aren't he sitting
in for Jason Smith and his best friend Mike Carmen.
Don't worry, the guys will be back tomorrow. Torres with
the night off. He was a little under the weather.
I think he had a temperature of ninety eight point seven.
(15:29):
Is that what it was? Guys? At the eight point seven.
You know ninety eight point six is normal, So I
don't know a few moniles. No, ninety eight point seven
really is not much of a temperature you come to
work with with ninety eight point seven. My dad used
to come to work with the temperature of a hundred
and ten and two broken legs. People. Oh man, so
(15:54):
much to get to I'm seeing lots going on Twitter.
It's thinking genius one. Someone said, hey, Arenie, we need
you back in l A. No. I My mom lives
in l A. My brother lives in l A. I
got friends that live in Los Angeles, right Uh. Mother
in law lives in Arizona. So I have a lot
of people back in the West Coast. I live in
Vermont now Whitland Witness Relocation. I I am for I
(16:17):
couldn't get further away from Los Angeles. No offense, No
offense to the people in l A. But I'm offended. Yeah,
well you should be offended. I just couldn't deal with
the traffic anymore. Let me tell you something. I can
get off work, go to like the home depot, go
to the market, go out and have dinner and still
be home in like an hour and a half. You
(16:40):
couldn't even go two blocks in an hour and a
half in Los Angeles. I just couldn't do it anymore. So, uh,
forget about it. It's not happening. I'm never moving back.
I'll come to visit, but but that's about it, all right.
A lot of people are getting it on Twitter. Like
I said, stink of genius one. If you want to
go and jump bouten what genius thought. It is a
(17:00):
good idea. And I don't know if you guys saw
this to introduce Bevo to oga. Did you guys see
this video? Bad idea? Bad idea? I was saying to
myself as I'm watching the video of this, they go, hey,
look what happens here Bevo introducing They'll gonna go wait
(17:20):
a minute, is it one a lot bigger and stronger
than the other doesn't want to have like really sharp
horns over the other one. And look, I'm I'm not
a full animal person, but I'm like, I don't know
if you should be doing that. Next thing, you know,
there's beeB all charge of Naga. Could you imagine if
(17:42):
he would stab him with one of those horns, then
there'd be a lot to talk about then. Oh my goodness,
then the then the twitter spear would be going ballistic
over that. Yeah, I was saying, not a good idea.
I wouldn't be doing that if I was you guys. Um,
But I guess it was a things to cause a
sign of things to come because right now, uh, it
(18:03):
was all Texas early. They were out to a seventeen
nothing lead. It's now out the half Texas leading Georgia seven.
Like I said, I want to know what you thought
about Central Florida today. Was it a good appearance? Did
you think now maybe they deserved to be in a
four team playoff it ever comes to that, or if
we expand to eight and by the way, that that's
(18:24):
my idea. Well, I know it's everybody's idea. But expand
to eight so we can go ahead at the home
field advantage, so we can have home campus advantage. These
neutral site games aren't cutting it. Oh, I see is
a bunch of ritual long night and you get a
few scattering of kids that somehow make it to the
(18:45):
game because they got rich parents. I I want it
back on the home campuses. I want the full fledged
fifty or a hundred thousand people there going crazy for
their home team. You're one of the top four seeds,
then you deserve it. And that's what you get if
you're an Alabama or Clemson. Wouldn't this game be a
lot more meaningful, a lot better to watch if the
(19:06):
game was in Tusco Hoosa? Can you imagine what the
crowd would be like instead of Santa Clara? Can can
can you even find it on the map? I mean,
can you get any further away from these two schools.
It's it's really ridiculous. And what it does is it
(19:27):
totally takes away from the game. It takes away from
the atmosphere, It takes away from the fund it it
takes away from what we want. We want to see
the crowd go crazy and and everybody having a good
time and enjoying themselves. And yeah, you'll get a couple
of them, you know, like I said, making their way
up there. But the prices have already gone from four
(19:49):
fifty and it's already cut in half. It's a little
bit over two d. So can you imagine that? And
it's going to continue to drop. How many people can
go on a Monday all the way up to Santa
Clara to go ahead and see this ridiculous. So I
think we have a couple of things to do to
fine tune this four team championship by taking it to
(20:09):
eight and getting it to the home campuses, because I
think it'd be a lot more enjoyable. Right stick of
genius one if you want to get it or you
calling to do it the old fashioned way eight seven
seven eight seven seven six six nine. Lincoln Riley of Oklahoma,
he signs an extension. He's not gonna go anywhere. And
(20:30):
I know my Sunday partner, Chris Plank, who's a Oklahoma
guy who does the post game, in the pre game
and everything to do with Oklahoma, said he was gonna
cut his pinkies off. If we could, Riley would leave
for another job. He was right about that. I guess
he's not going Planing could keep his pinkies. I thought
there was a chance he could go. I thought there
(20:52):
was a chance, you know that the NFL could steal
him away. I thought maybe the Cowboy job, if it
would have opened, would have been a great fit for him.
I mean, how many people could turn down the job
of the Dallas Cowboys. You want to talk about an
iconic franchise. You just go from Oklahoma down that Dallas.
You worked for Jerry, he keeps you around for ten years.
(21:15):
You turn around that program. I mean, look how many
playoff wins they have it twenty years. Anyway, they've done
nothing and they're not gonna do anything again in this
playoffs anyway. Also, and we'll talk to Alex Marvez about
that coming up in about three minutes from now. But yeah,
it's uh, they're gonna be one and done anyway. But
I thought that was the one job that Lincoln Riley
(21:37):
was gonna go ahead and take. Unfortunately, UM, Dallas didn't open.
They made the playoffs, they won the division. And you
can't fire uh a coach Jason Garrett after that type
of performance. It just can't be done. All right. I
do want to get to some calls also, if you
want to jump in eight seven seven eight seven seven
(21:57):
six three six, if you want to go and jump
out in, then we get a quick call. Then we
got a gym. Who's in Pennsylvania? Jim, Good evening, you're
on Fox Sports Radio. What's going on? Jim? Not much thinking? Genius?
How are you good? My friend talked to me? Jim, Well,
I want to talk about two things. First, uh, I
want to talk about your Miami Dolphins potentially looking at
(22:18):
Jim Harball. I've heard a few rumors about that. I
don't exactly know where you stand on that, but let
me tell you right now, as a fan of the
Michigan Wolverines, he is now oh for four against Ohio State,
one in three in bowl games, ten losses against teams
ranked in the top twelve, and I gotta be honest
with you, I don't see it getting much better as
the years go on. So you you're not telling me
(22:40):
you are already done with hardball. You're not starting that
that game? Are you that whole thing? I remember? Am
I a member of the fire hardball clan? Absolutely not. However,
I am a member of the get your crap together, Jim.
I mean, we've paid you all this money more. I
believe only Sabing makes more money annually than hardball right now,
and it's not translating to win. Let me give you
(23:00):
another little stat Bob, Jim Trestle, Kirby Smart, urban Meyer,
Pete Carroll, Less Miles, what are they all have in common?
What are they all have in common? Within their first
four years as head coach. They've at least made it
or won a national title the playoff. I did be
(23:21):
asked us if I asked you to bet all the
money in the world, there asked all the money in
your pocket. Is urban Meyer gonna be coaching again somewhere?
I you know what, Arnie didn't Hells things. They keep
plaguing him. But I gotta be honest. I could see
him taking a year off, taking twenty four months off
his wife get't sick of him being around the house
all day every day, and him accepting a job at
(23:44):
USC good call A way to start things off. I
didn't mean to cut you off there, appreciate the call. Yeah,
urban Meyer is not retiring. Oh you maybe retiring for
the next year. I'm not even gonna say two for
one year and he'll be back, okay, So um, I
wouldn't call it a retirement. I just call it a
(24:06):
long vacation. All right. We're off and running. Lots to
get to. I'm sitting in for Jason Smith and his
best friend, Mike Carmen. Let's see what's trending out there
with her buddy Steve the singer. What's going on? Good
evening and Happy New Year, and boy did the Texas
Longhorns jump on fifth rank. Let's start the Sugar Bowl.
It was seventeen nothing Texas in the second quarter. Now
at halftime in New Orleans, it's Texas twenty seven, two
(24:30):
touchdown runs from quarterback Sam Ellinger. Sixth ranked. Ohio State
took the Rose Bowl twenty three over Washington. The lead
was twenty eight to three early in the fourth quarter.
Dwayne Haskins three touchdown passes in the first half. Bowl
wins for l s U Kentucky and Iowa Oklahoma gave
coach Lincoln Riley a contract extension. There's NBA tonight. Five games.
(24:50):
Toronto has won again. Kawhi Leonard scored forty five points
in a winning Utah one one sixteen. Kyle Lowry out
again with a bad bad Milwaukee wins again over Detroit
despite Blake Griffin's twenty nine points in the third quarter.
Trailblazers leading sixty eight sixty at Sacramento mid third. The
(25:11):
New York Knicks are winning a game at Denver no less.
Right now, the Nuggets are tied for first in the
Western Conference with IDOL Golden State, But the Knicks, who
have lost seventh straight, are winning sixty nine sixty six
midship or not man coming up in a few minutes.
In l A, the Clippers will be hosting the seventy
sixers in college hoops tonight on FS one St. John's
(25:33):
at home, beat up number sixteen Marquette eighty nine sixty
nine earlier wins in the top ten for Florida State
and Virginia Tech. In the NHL Outdoor Game at Notre
Dame Stadium, the Boston Bruins beat Chicago four to two
tennis and mixed doubles. Roger Federer Switzerland team beat Serena
Williams US squad today at the Hopman Cup. You know,
Australia back to you. How did I miss that one?
(25:54):
I don't have no idea followay on our special high
speed sports wires to say we're coming to you alive
the Geico Fox Sports radio studios. It's easy to say
more InCAR intrance with Geico. Just go to Geico dot
com or give him a call one seven auto and
remember the only hard part, well, that's figuring out which
way is easier. Let's go to the Geico Fox Sports.
(26:16):
Somebody how by joining us down serious x m NFL
radio host. Let me tell you, nobody really knows NFL
better than our next guest. It's Alex Marvez. Alex right
off the bat with what's going on with this san
Antonio Brown thing? How much of is it true? How
serious is this and could they really possibly trade him?
I just don't think it trades of possibility, Arnie and
(26:37):
look Distillers. Mike Tomlin, he deals in crisis management. That's
the type of head coach he is. And of course
some would say that the crises are of his own
doing in a way because you have to lavy on
Bell situation that happened there, and you know, guys making comments.
It's a very loose locker room type thing. But you know,
for as long as the Stillers were winning, everything was fine. Well,
they missed the playoffs this year, and there's you know,
(26:58):
several reasons for that, but a lot of you know,
pressure on Mike Commin. He's got to find a way
to to at least keep Antonio Brown semi happy, try
to figure out what it is that is bothering him
right now, and is this an irreparable relationship between him
and Ben Roethlisberger. I mean, is this is this where
we're at where it has to be a he goes
or I go man. I mean, I guess if Ernie.
If that's the case and you see a trade the Steelers,
(27:20):
ultimately you're going to have to eat twenty one million
dollars in cap space, you know, I think that, and
that has a huge trickle down effect on the rest
of their roster. Here's the good news for the Steelers. Right,
it's January first, it's a new year. There's plenty of
time before Antonio Brown is playing a meaningful football game
again in September. So let's let this one play out
for a little bit. Yeah, you know, you know it's
(27:40):
interesting though. Look, we don't know if he really threw
the football, if there was a heated argument, what happened there.
But what we do know is he didn't play the
last game. They went ahead and gave him a healthy
scratch or they said there was they made up some
injury one. Is that going to be a problem with
the NFL too? That shows you how serious this was
with the playoffs on the line that they didn't want
him play, right, and you know he left at half time?
(28:02):
What does that say, is your team fighting for their
postseason lives. He's out of there, so I mean, Arnie, yeah,
it's a it's a bad look. And you know, look,
Antonio Brown is such a great player, and I mean
he looked his teammates like him. They like what he
provides to the team. But you know, things have to change.
I mean, he's not above the rules, and you know
he's He's flirted with that for a while, the Facebook stuff,
you know, when he's streaming my Tomlin's message. And you
(28:24):
know also too, he was involved in an off field complaint,
you know, throwing furniture allegedly off of the balcony of
his you know, Miami Beach, you know, condominium or whatever,
townhouse whatever, you know what I'm saying, to live and allegedly,
you know, maybe some domestic type stuff involved in that
as well. So I mean, it trusts me Antonio Brown
maybe a handful, but god is he a good player
(28:44):
of fifteen touchdown catches this year, you know, and he look, man,
he grew up tough. I'll just say that he grew
up in a real rough part of Miami. He made
something of himself. We're basically no one else around him
ever did to this extent, So you know, you try
to empathy as with someone like this, you hope they
can work out whatever issues they have because he makes
the NFL better, He makes the Steelers better. Wow, a
(29:06):
couple of things. Let's go to the Green Bay Packers. Um,
who's going to be the next coach? Who's got the
upper hand? Is it Josh McDaniels right now? What are
you hearing? You know, this is a weird one for
me because I just you know, I'm not sure what
direction they're headed in. I'm not sure if they know either.
You know, listen when you interview Josh mcchaniels. And I've
heard this from a team that actually was going to
(29:26):
interview Josh McDaniels but then pulled out of it. And
what they told me was, you know, you don't interview
Josh McDaniels. Josh McDaniels interviews you. He wants to know
everything about your organization from basically who works in your cafeteria,
you know, on and you're not to knock the cafeteria workers,
but you get my point here. He wants to know
everything about the organization in the way that it's structured
(29:47):
and if it's not to his liking and you're not
willing to change it to his liking. He has no
interest in running your team. And that's the thing I
think that's so interesting about green Bay. Are they willing
to give him all that power? We saw what happened
a decade ago, and Denver the first for the first person.
The next person who says a nice thing about Josh
McDaniels from the Broncos from that time will be the
first person who says something nice about Josh McDaniels from
(30:09):
that time. He was a disaster. The way that he
treated people, the way that he ran things there. Did
ten years change a person. Well, when you see someone
who left people that he got hired as assistant coaches
who were prepared to work for him having to stay
with the team like the Indianapolis Colts, I think that
just sort of tells you about the character of the guy.
Green Bay want to put him in there, even though
he's a great play caller, you know, do they want
(30:32):
to put him in there and change that the way
that organization runs It is a big question for Mark Murphy,
the Packard president. No. Absolutely, Then let's get over to
Miami because as soon as they got rid of gaze.
Everybody wants to talk to him, and as the dobbin
is really such a bad job if you could come
in and bring any quarterback you want, because if you
go to Tampa, you gotta deal with Jamis Winston, I
(30:52):
guess is what they're saying. So is it that bad
to go to Miami? Yeah, it's pretty bad. I mean
it's just I mean because because it's an old team
and they have a salary cap issue next year, and
even if they move on from Ryan tanney Hill, it's
thirteen million dollars in dead money, you know. I mean,
if he's got a six million dollar salary cap number,
I mean, you'd save money, but you're but you're chewing
(31:13):
up a lot of money on a quarterback. And so
I mean they might even bring him back. I mean, honestly,
it just depends, you know how what if you know
what they're saying basically is we're gonna have to take
a step backwards to go two steps forward. How encouraging
is that as a head coach that you know going
in there that the odds are stacked against you, that
there are much more appealing jobs out there. There are
eight jobs that the Dolphins are are in competition arning
(31:35):
with someone else, and that that like let's say the Jets,
even for example, your quarterback situation is solved and you
have more than eighty million dollars available in cap space,
even despite the way that that organization's run, you have
a much better chance of success than you do in Miami. No,
the Dolphins are a mess. Alex Marvez serious except NFL
radio host, all right, what is happening more? I'm still
(31:56):
shocked that Marv Lewis has gone. I never thought it
was actually going to happened. And and now you're telling
me that you Jackson's the front runner or is that
just a bunch of bologning. Well, how about this Vance?
Joseph may end up being the front runner. Someone who've
been sit down up And I was the one to
break this story on Vance a couple of years ago.
You know, the Cincinnati Bengals were basically holding him hostage.
(32:16):
He had a chance to go be the Denver Broncos
defensive coordinator under Gary Kubiak. The Bengals would not let
him out of his contract as a secondary coach. Wade
Phillips the second choice Alave frank Reich in Indianapolis gets
the job, Broncos win a Super Bowl. So why vance
Joseph would want to work for the same people who
held him back before. I have no idea, but that's
(32:37):
sort of the Bengals way, right, and listen, by keeping
all these same people in house, it just shows you
that you're just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.
Because if you don't open yourself up to new ideas
and change things. And that's the amazing part where sort
of Mike Brown and the Bengals lost their way. Sam
Weish was an innovative coach. He brought a lot of
new things to that organization. I think they forget about
that bringing someone who thinks differently, learned some thing different,
(33:00):
because you know what you're doing, it ain't working, that's
for sure. How about the j E T S Jets,
Jets Jets New York City? Wait? Are they that bad? That? That?
That was it? Cambell didn't even want the coach from
Iowa State said, nah, I think I'm okay, I'm good
here at Iowa. Stay what what what's going on? Actually?
I think Arnie, honestly, the Jets situation is a good one.
(33:22):
As I mentioned, earlier because of Sam Donald, you know,
being a franchise quarterback and at least having the room
to make roster upgrades under the salary cap. You know
you're not restricted. You know by that you're gonna have
a top seven pick, so you know you're in that
as well. I believe they picked number three, and that's
you know, that's currency for a team that you know,
I was looking. Let's say a team wants to trade
up for a quarterback. Well, you're able to pick up
(33:43):
a lot of draft picks and you're able to restock
your roster really quickly. So I think that's something that's
possible about the test. But here's the screwed up thing.
Mike mccagne as a general manager, right, and he's he's
not that great, right, Well, not only is he participating
in the hiring of this coach, the coach doesn't report
to mccagnon. The coach reports to Christopher Johnson, the de
(34:03):
facto owner. What what what is this? Who thinks of
something like this? Arn'tie? I mean, you're the stinking genius
on Twitter? I mean, what what what? Please posit something
for me? I mean, this is this is a bad
franchise that has a chance because of Sam Donald. But man,
just some of the things make you know, it makes
you scratch your head all right before I let you go.
(34:24):
If you could trade get or whoever's a free agent
quarterback and you want a veteran, could you make it
work with Tandy Hill, Bortles, Teddy Bridgewater Flacco? Could you
trade for Derek Carr? And what the heck is going
to happen that Nick Falls? And I would love that
that what what? What? What? Who could you work with
and what's gonna happen to the Falls? Well? Falls would
(34:44):
be the guy. I mean, you know what I mean
that that's ultimately the guy. He's gonna go somewhere. I
think the problem with the Eagles is this just real quick,
you know, salary cap explains this. The Eagles would have
to carry him at twenty million dollars in salary cap space.
They're already over and you know they need to make
they need to figure out a gonna resign Brandon Graham.
Some of the you know, a couple of top players
are up, and they got to start looking to extend
(35:05):
Carson Wentz. At some points, you get to save a
few sheckles here and there, So I just don't see
it as feasible, you know, for the short term. Do
they carry him at twenty million, cut some players and
then try to trade him to someone you know that
that's the thing. And then, by the way, on top
of all this, Nick Foles can buy his way to freedom.
He can actually pay two million dollars out of his
contract to become a free agent. Yeah, you know, so
(35:25):
it's just a goofy, it's a goofy deal. But he's
he's the number one guy. Canny Hill would be appealing
because I still think people just don't know what the
book well, they don't know what the book is on.
And plus he's eighteen million dollars in salary, which is
going right for a bridge quarterback. So for a team
that that's you know, looking to draft, it's just a
weird year for quarterbacks because you know who's really looking
for what I mean, the Giant's gonna finally get one.
(35:47):
Are they gonna expect thirty eight thirty nine year old
Eli Manning to you know, be able to succeed in
a league where the quarterbacks are getting increasingly mobile and
they're going back to the dark ages. I don't really know.
I mean they passed on a quarterback last sure do
they dare do it again with an early pick? Well
something to follow in the off season. Too bad they
can't take to uh a drafted now or Lawrence the
(36:08):
quarterback out of Clemson who's six six or six seven,
that would be no. Well listen and the kid from Duke,
the kid from Missouri. You know, we can get into
a lot of these young men as it goes on.
It's it's not like a banner quarterback class, at least
on paper, but you're still going to see three or
four guys go in the first round because that's just
a nature of the position. He's Alex Marves serious x
(36:28):
m NFL radio host, Alex, have a great new year,
Enjoy twenty nineteen. Always appreciated, and we'll speak to you
later on Thank you, good, Thank you my friend Alex Marvez.
Always like talking to Alex. Right, we'll come back finish
out the hour. We'll check it on that Georgia, Texas score.
Arnie sitting for Jason Smith. It's best friend Mike Carmen
right here on sports Radio. Be sure to catch live

We've covered it. Talk to we know a thing or two.
Because we've seen a thing or two. We are farmers

editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays
at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific. All right, good, even,
everyone already sitting in for Jason Smith and his best
friend Mike Harmon. Remember the guys will be back tomorrow
because David K. Tweets on in not even January second,
(37:33):
and I'm up by quota for hearing stinking genius for
twenty nineteen. Oh gosh, it's it's just one day, just
one day. Look, I know I've been filling in the
lot the last two three weeks. But one more day,
just tonight, you'll get back to guys. Don't don't worry
about that. They'll be they'll be back tomorrow. Or Nesto
(37:54):
tweets had already come up, you as UCF wouldn't stand
a chance against the Alabamas and Clemson's of the world.
L S you got so many players out for this
game and they still got lit up. I understand l
s U was missing a lot of players. I'm not
gonna be naive about that. But still, bottom line is scoreboard,
you lost by eight. You deserve a chance. I don't
care how many players are out. That's just the way
(38:16):
it is. You lost. You lost the game by eight,
So maybe you do deserve to be in an eight
team playoff. At least I would love to see what
would happen. And you know what, I can't judge it
on anything else. Everybody's missing guys for these for these
bowl games, every team is missing a bunch of guys.
Nobody's playing. It seems like anymore. They're like the heck
(38:37):
heck with it. They're like, you know, exhibition games anyway.
And I don't blame them. Josh tweets in Texas in
the top four next year, Well, just relaxed, Just go
ahead and try to win this game first. Okay, slow
down right now, Texas leading seven, Uh, Georgia with the ball.
There's about what eleven or twelve minutes left in the third,
So just the second half underway. Actually eleven or eleven
(39:00):
left Georgia with the ball and they have it in
their own territory. So uh, Texas out to a seven
lead to was seventy nothing. And I feel that Texas
fans already puffing up their chest because it's been a
long time for them, it really has. I remember when
I was living down in Dallas for like three years,
the longest twenty one years of my life, because every
(39:21):
one years in Dallas is like seven years. It's like
dog years. It took its toll out of me. I
can't even tell you how many times I had a
flat tire. One time, like three flat tires. I don't
think people like me out there. It's always tough doing
the show in Dallas when you have a slight New
York accent. I I don't know if you understand that
(39:43):
a slight New York accent that kind of turns people
off against you when you're when you're down there in
the South. All right, eight seven seven ninety nine, Fox,
if you want to get in eight seven seven nine
nine six six six nine, that's the number we'll get
to some calls. Also, I brought up Central Florida, like
I said maybe they should be given the chance. I
was surprised about that. They hung in there. I don't
(40:05):
care how many people L. S U was really missing,
But the talk was how good was Central for they
had won twenty five in a row, but they played
a bunch of Patsy's. We know that they played nobody.
I don't want to hear about the Auburn game from
last year. Well now they beat L. S U. And
we're gonna keep saying we don't want to hear about
this game. We don't want to hear about the people
(40:26):
out for Auburn. Sooner or later we're going to have
to hear from them. Give them a chance. Twenty five
games in a row and now they lose by eight,
why not give it? And I'm the one that said, oh,
now they get claubored. And maybe they would. You saw
what Clempson did the Notre Dame thirty two three with
Central for to get beat any worse than that? Would
(40:47):
they get beat any worse than thirty two three? I
don't think so, all right, so I would like to
see them. That's why I want to go from four
to eight. And another reason, as I told you earlier,
you get the home campuses so much better, or if
you have the home campuses, the fact that we have
to have this championship game in Santa Clara just a
complete downer, just takes away the atmosphere, the sites, the sounds,
(41:11):
the fields. It just completely different, different feel of the
whole thing. All right, our one in the books, we
just crushed that when we cruised right along, come back reset.
We gotta get into playoffs scenario playoff talk for the NFL.
Also Black Monday and some more on Antonio Brown because
this will just not die down, and something's got to
(41:34):
be done, because I don't know if it's going to
fix itself, to be honest with you. So eight seven
seven eight seven seven six nine Arnie for Jason and
Mike right here on Fox Sports Radio. Be sure to
catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike
harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific on
(41:54):
Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio app. Alright,
that is me, let's get going good evening. Everyone. Aren't
he sitting there for Jason Smith and his best friend
my karm Is. I've been sitting in all last week
and this week, usually with Aaron Torres. Torres has got
the millennial flu? What's wrong with him? Lead a lot
(42:15):
my producer today? What does he have? Like a rash?
Is that why he had a he has a pimple
or something on his chin? Why could he come in
to do the show today? A bit of a cough,
a little bit green. Uh, it might have been just
been a little bit too much New Year's festivities, believe me.
See that's the millennial flu. You guys don't know how
to hold your liquor? What's wrong with you? You know?
Millennial starting to get on my nerves. You have one beer,
(42:40):
all of a sudden you get a little green. You
can't come in the work. You're very foo food. You're
very high maintenance. I know that, but you know what,
millennials are very high maintenance. I don't know if you
know that. You guys really, you know, do something on
your own. Now, come on now? Torres taking the day off,
And I really think it's because he had a ninety
(43:01):
eight point seven temperature. That's why he didn't want to
go ahead and come on in. Uh, if you want
to get into the show though, eight seven seven ninety
nine Fox eight seven seven nine six six six nine,
if you want to send me a tweet, real simple
stinking genius one S T I N K I M
genius G E N I U S and the number one.
I'll get to sub tweets a little bit later on
(43:24):
this hour. I started if I were number one talking
about Antonio Brown, who obviously you've heard what's going on
with him and Ben Roethlisberger. By the way, Roethlisberger denied
and saying, oh, he's my good friend. I don't know
what everybody's talking about. Um, you know whether he threw
a football at Ben or what. We do know that
he left at halftime at the game. I gotta say
(43:45):
this if Antonio, if I own the Steelers and Antonio
Brown left at halftime of the game, and I know
he was inactive, And by the way, does it not
really say at all that you went ahead and made
him inactive on the most important game of the year.
And I guess it kind of says it all that
he didn't even participate in practices leading up to the
(44:05):
game and thought he was just gonna be able to
play the game. You made him inactive. How mad had
you would have to abend at him to make him inactive?
For the game. How mad was he the fact that
he didn't even show up, that he practices, and then
he leaves at halftime. Forget about the ownership for a second.
(44:27):
How do you leave at halftime when your teammates are
battling for a playoff spot, when your teammates are laying
it all on the line, and you have your new contract,
you have your money, and you just get up and leave.
You just say forget you guys. I'm all about myself.
(44:49):
I wouldn't want this guy on my team if he
was the last wide receiver out there. And I don't
want to pretend like I'm fake tough guy and all that.
I want him off my team if I'm the Pittsburgh Steelers,
And what of god, you don't That's about the worst
thing you could do is walk and turn your back
(45:11):
on your team and walk out of the stadium at halftime.
There's I don't even know anything worse eight seven seven
ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven six six six nine?
Am I being too over dramatic? Is it? No big deal?
Should time take its course? And maybe he'll make up
with Ben Roethlisberger and the Steeler fans. We'll welcome it
(45:33):
back once he scores his first Touchdowt next year. No,
I I can't. You can't do something like that to me.
You know, it's like that relationship when you have a
buddy that that he says, Oh, me and the old
lady broke up. Oh we got back together. We broke up,
we got back together, we broke up, we got back together.
(45:54):
I don't play that game. You break up, you stay
broke up. There's some things that are inexcusable, and walking
out at halftime it's one of them. In week seventeen,
Week seventeen, when there's a playoff spot on the line
and your team is battling and you're inactive and you're
(46:15):
a healthy scratch because your team deems you a cancer.
That's why it's disgusting, absolutely disgusting. And seriously, if you're
a Steeler fan, and I know you love the guy
because he's so talented, and and I know it's tough
to trade him, I promise you this, if the Steelers
(46:37):
could trade him and it wouldn't count. And what did
Alex Marve's Marvez said against the cap twenty something million?
And I know it's due to make close to that
if it wouldn't count so much against the cap, he'd
be gone, he'd beat one. I get him the heck
out of here, and I bet you just teammates don't
even want him on the team. Also, you don't turn
(46:58):
your back on your teammates. You just I don't even
know if you can. You know, men that relationship when
you do stuff like that. By the way, does anybody
know exactly why he's so upset that he didn't come
to practice all week, that he went ahead and got
himself in active for the last game and then left
at halftime? That because I don't know what the heck
(47:19):
is going on, what exactly what him and I understand
that him and Roethlisberger are not on the same page.
But this is how you act. And this is not
the first time we saw the video. What was the
video taken last year when they were inside the locker room.
This guy doesn't care about the rules. You know, he's
like Lebron Lebron drinking wine and he's walking into the game.
(47:44):
They don't care about the rules. You don't care about
the rules. You want to turn your back on your teammates,
you want to leave at halftime? Could you Imagine what
I'd be saying about Lebron James now if he was
sitting on the bench because he can't I play now
because of the injury. If the Lakers were losing by
twenty points at halftime, he just got up off the bench,
(48:05):
like between the first and the second quarter and said, Yeah,
I'm going home. You guys suck. I'm done watching you guys.
You're embarrassing. Oh oh my goodness. We wouldn't be able
to talk about anything for like the next ten years
when you do something like that. If farm a Steeler fan,
I want him gone. This is your You can't repair this.
(48:31):
You can't fix this. I don't think you can. If
I'm Ben Roethlisberger, I don't even know how you could
look this guy in the face and then me here
from one Steeler fan, just one, whether you call it
at eight seven seven eight seven seven six nine, or
you can get a whole distincting genius one and let
(48:52):
me know what you think about that. Joshua says, the
only thing worse than Antonio leaving at halftime is David
from Buffalo retiring at half time. That was the only
thing worse. Well, at least he retired, all right, At
least he said I'm done with football, and Tonio just
said I'm done with the team. I'm done with that,
(49:14):
And he says Torres has a ninety eight point seven temperature. Funny,
I like that. How can you kick him? Uh to
the curve like that? Tom Millennial boy? He earned a
participation trophy, so he doesn't feel bad. Yeah, I guess
my co host Torres has a ninety eight point seven temperature,
(49:35):
so he couldn't come in today. Yes, and I know
point six is normal, but when you get up there
in the ninety eight point seven, yeah, you can't possible.
The air burning up, can't do it. Yeah, you know
you got the when you got the sniffles, You got
the sniffles. Can't be working like that. I want to
(49:55):
get the Black Monday Mike Dolphins. Let's start with them.
Adam Gaze gone, and now it seems like everybody wants
to hire that guy. Uh. Look, I like Adam Gates
and I think he's gonna be a good head coach.
He just wasn't a good fit in Miami. He did
a pretty decent job with Tannehill, but remember Teddehill was
(50:16):
all he was gone all last year and he had
to do it with Jay Cutler. And this year, even
though they got off to a three and oh start,
too many injuries, not enough deep threat weapons, Losing Jarvis
Landry really took its toll. The defense was just okay,
but I had to carry the team wasn't as great
as I thought it was. Um Now they've got to
(50:37):
rebuild the team now that now they've got to bring
a quarterback also because I guess Ryan Tannehill ain't coming back. Whoever,
the new coaches they're gonna have to bring in like
a Bortles or a Teddy b or a Flacco or
Nick Foles, who I love. I would love to go
ahead and get Nick Foles down there in Miami. That's
(50:57):
a crazy scenario. That's a crazy situation. Could you imagine
as I jumped from Miami to Philadelphia. If Nick Foles
leads Philadelphia back to the Super Bowl and wins it
back to back Super Bowls, tell me there's not gonna
be pressure on Carson Wentz. Tell me there's already pressure
(51:18):
on Carson Wentz now after Nick Foles took that first
Super Bowl, Tell me there won't be even more pressure
on Carson Wentz because people already clamoring that Nick Foles
should be the quarterback of the team, they should get
rid of Carson Wentz, which can't happen. Is there all
in for Carson Wentz anyway? Unbelievable? How does a guy
(51:40):
back up get a super Bowl? Now he's back in
the playoffs? Is he going to go ahead and get
another way? I don't think he can do it. I
think it's too much. But what a great story. How
awesome would it be if that actually happened? That is
absolutely awesome? All right? I want to get to some calls,
Like I said, if you want to get him eight
(52:01):
seven seven nine Fox eight seven seven six nine, never
you go out to Virginia Beach and talk to Larry
Will start with him. Larry, Good evening, You're on Fox
Sports Radio. What's going on? Larry? Hey, how are you doing?
Happy New Year to you? Happy New Year. Always a
pleasure to talk to you and everything. I'm a diehard
Dolphin person. It hurts a lot right now for me,
and it's kind of like an old girlfriend like you
(52:23):
were saying. I mean, you get used to me. Like
Danny Hill. I know he won the greatest quarterback, but
he wanted the worst and and Adam Gates I think
did a decent job at a time. You know, So
who do you want? Who do you want out of
the rest? Though? Do you want Boardles, you want Teddy
b you want Folds, you want you want car No,
I definitely don't want Blas. Probably fold Um, I guess
(52:48):
falls probably. Do you think he's the best, but you
know that again, how much money is he going to demand?
He's gonna be demanding high money because he's coming off
a Super Bowl last year and a playoff appearance this year,
right right, So I don't know. I don't know if
that's going to work out. I'm look, I appreciate the call.
I love nich Foles. I went to the University of Arizona,
(53:10):
so I would I would love for him down in Miami.
But I'm dying to see what that contract is gonna cost.
These only thirty years old. And then we go to Calvin,
who's in Bend, Oregon. Let's go out to Oregon, Calvin,
and are you there? Calvin? I think Calvin couldn't hang out.
But what he wanted to tell me was that Juju
Smith won the team m V p for the Pittsburgh Steelers,
(53:32):
and I saw that earlier. What a slap in the
face to Antonio Brown. Now, how can you come back?
You left it halftime, They made you inactive for the
last game with the playoffs in the line, and your
teammates voted Juju Smith as the most valuable player. That
(53:55):
you can't repair that, you can't do it, can't happen,
can't do it. Unbelievable. So where's the next stop that?
Because it's skill it? Who's in Dodge City? Skill it?
You're on Fox Sports Radio. What's going on? My friend?
Not much? I Antonio Brown. Pittsburgh Steelers problem is they
(54:19):
refused to sign Levan Bell and that spilled over to
Brown's attitude. That's the way every way go. Anyway, Wait,
that's none of his business. Though he got his money,
he got his contract. Well, he's a teammate and he's
a player, and he's like your team and he's not
(54:40):
of his team. Robbed the quarterbacks a big part of it,
and then Tonio Brown is a big part of it.
That's why he's got the contract. Well, I don't think
it's over money. I think he's just mad that uh
that they didn't win first place in their division because
they didn't have one player. One player costs him the
whole season. He's mad. He got inactive for the last game,
he didn't show up the practice, his teammates voted somebody
(55:02):
else m v P, and he turned his back on
his teammates by walking out at halftime. You think his
teammates want him back. Um, probably not, but I don't
think it would have happened. But you better believe, and
I appreciate the call. You better believe they don't want
him back. They're sending him a message. Juju Smith is
(55:23):
r m v P. Get out of here and don't
let the door hit your backside on the way out.
Jason Lack and Forest coming up next. We'll talk to
him about that. He's a NFL insider, aren't he? Sitting
for Jason Smith and Mike Harmon right here on Fox
Sports Radio. Be sure to catch live editions of The
Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm
(55:45):
Eastern seven pm Pacific. For a car landing on a
roof to a car landing in the pool. We've covered
him talk to farmers. We know a thing or two
because we've seen a thing or two. We are farmers.
My farmers took fire insurance exchanges and affiliates products unavailable
in every state. All right, good evening everyone, Aren't he
(56:07):
sitting for Jason Smith and his best friend Mike Carmen.
Happy twenty nine nineteen, Happy New Year's on this Tuesday? Tuesday? Yeah,
it is Tuesday. And to make sure Tuesday, first day
of January. Let's go right out to the Geico Fox
Sports Celebrity Hotline joining us. Now he's the CBS Sports
(56:27):
NFL insider. It's Jason lochanfora Jason. It's a lot worse
than I even imagine with Antonio Browdy left it half time.
The players voted Juju Smith Schuster uh the m v P.
Whether he deserved it or not, maybe a whole another
argument there. And I don't really know what happened between
him and Big Ben, but is it coming to the
(56:47):
point where you can't repair this or they really have
no choice beca they can't trade him? Well, yeah, I
mean he wants out, you know, he's he's expressed to
the front office that he doesn't want to be there
next year. But you and I both know we are
mere hours into this offseason and this NFL off season
of the Doozy. It's over six months and there's a
(57:07):
lot of time to have conversations and to get people
together and have com fabs and try to figure out
what makes sense and what doesn't make sense, and what
can be repaired and what can't be repaired. Um. But
the Rooney family, you know, on the whole, doesn't really
capitulate to anybody's demands, you know what I mean. They're
(57:28):
all about continuity, and their track record speaks for itself,
and they don't get put in a corner by players,
especially not by players who they have rewarded handsomely and
made among the very highest paid in the world at
what they do. So we'll see. Look, some stuff have
to change there, there's no doubt about that, between Comlin
(57:50):
and between Roethlisberger, and maybe there's a changing coordinator on
at least one side of the ball. And they've got
to get a little more kumbaya and little more um
everybody on the same page. And I think Mike Tomlin
probably has to have a little bit more of a
disciplinary invent uh to the way he handles things, and
and maybe them finally Benching you know Antonio Brown for
(58:14):
going a wall for the third time and four months,
uh is a start to that. And and he he
obviously didn't respond to that very well in in immediate
like in the immediate aftermath and in real time. But
they've got a long offseason now to maybe chart a
different course and establish some different rules and protocols and
(58:35):
we'll see. You know, the one thing we know about
this franchise is they're not down very often, and when
they are down, they're not down for very long. So um,
you know, we'll see what store for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
How's it going to play out for him? And did
he win? Loser? It's a draw for what he did
by sitting out. Excuse me? Well we look, I mean
(59:00):
he might never get this money back. I don't think
he ever will get this money back. And whatever contract
he does eventually sign, uh, you know, in the March,
when the league year starts, it's gonna be picked over
with a fine tooth comb to to determine exactly what
the real true heart and fast guarantees are. He would
(59:20):
have made like twenty point one million dollars in this
calendar year with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He would that's I mean,
these people saying, oh, it was only ten million guaranteed, No,
that's BS, that's BS, that's BS. He would have made
more than twenty million dollars between him signing that contract
in July and this coming March. I don't know what's
(59:40):
out there for him. I really don't. They ran the
ball pretty darn well without him Connor, and before he
got hurt, was getting in the touch you know, it
was getting in the end zone all the time, and
was you know, multiple games with multiple touchdowns. And you know,
even that Jalen Samuel's kid looked pretty good for short
behind that offensive line and with all that talent in
(01:00:03):
the passing game to help keep you know, people honest
inside the box and not allow them to stack bodies
against them. People talk about Indianapolis. I don't see that.
I think Indianapolis is going to keep spending money on
their defense. People talk about the Jets. I don't know.
We don't even know who the Jets head coaches yet,
you know, I mean, I I don't, I don't. I
(01:00:24):
have a hard time buying. Will somebody do it? Maybe?
But I also would not rule out at all the
Pittsburgh's deal is putting a transition tag on Lev m
Thow and having the right to match. And you know what,
it might be a softer market than anybody's anticipating. Well,
I'd love to see that. How much driver would that be?
Jason like? And for CBS Sports NFL insider, um, isn't
(01:00:45):
a race for the eight teams that need head coaches
for the first one to get signed? Do you have
to do this immediately or can you hold back a
little bit? I think, you know, sell of them are
coming from different points of view, They have different um
I think model that probably resonate a little bit more
in certain organizations than others. If we're talking about it
(01:01:07):
being all about a quarterback, then yeah, there's probably a
bit of a race for Mike McCarthy or Josh McDaniels
UM or maybe an Adam Gaze. Guys who at least
at some level, maybe it's only the coordinator level, and
in some cases maybe it's the head coaching level too,
but have at least established themselves as somebody who can
(01:01:27):
reinvent themselves from week to week, who can scheme people up,
who can get you know, more out of less from
a talent standpoint, and who have a pedigree as a
play caller and maybe also as a quarterback guru or
quarterback whisper. And then there's other people who I think
beauties in the eye of the beholder, and and the
jobs are a little bit more wide open, and maybe
(01:01:48):
the best thing for them is a disciplinary and slash
CEO head coach who was then coupled with somebody with
a little more quarterback specific background at the coordinator level. Um,
you know I I think, look, there's three primo jobs.
It's it's Screen Bay, It's Cleveland, and it's the Jets
because of the potential Sam Donald and then it kind
(01:02:09):
of falls off the cliff, you know. All those other
jobs have a lot of warts and and depending on
the head coach's background, maybe a little more appealing than
the next. But certainly the chance to work with Baker Mayfield,
the chance to work with Aaron Rodgers and and to
you know, the chance to turn around the Browns, the
chance to work with the story franchise that the Packers are.
(01:02:30):
And then I am putting the Jets up there as
well because they've got a hundred million in cap space.
Because I think Mike mccagnet will be amenable to working
with with whatever coach they decided the best for them.
And because Sam Donald does have you know, big time
upside potential, it's got to be tapped into, it's got
to be cultivated and developed. But it's there, you know,
(01:02:51):
those other jobs, you know, I I don't. I don't
know that it's going to be a competition for the
best and the brightest. Well, I would saying, couldn't you
take with Miami and bringing your own quarterback? Couldn't you
bring Folds or Bortles or Teddy b or flak O
or trade for car couldn't I know? If you go
to Tampa, you gotta get a Jamis Winston in there.
But um, you know, Arizona's got Josh Rosen or or
(01:03:14):
the other one so bad. Yeah, there's a lot of
coaches out there who really worry about Josh Rosen and
already start to wonder, is that a little bit diminished
returns and the way it played out for him and
the beating he took and the lack of an offensive line,
is he already a little bit gun shy? And and
has they're already you know, has already been some damage done. Um,
(01:03:36):
you're right, some of these situations could be a little
more of an open book. Like on Miami. I mean,
let's face it, Tannehill is not going to be back
there now that Adam cas has gone. Adam was clearly
his biggest champion and advocate. But but all these other options,
I think Bridgewater there's some some serious upside there. But
I mean Bortles, Folds, Uh, Bradford Flack, No, No, you
(01:04:01):
know those guys are Bridge quarterbacks. To me, I don't.
I don't think that there are guys you'll hang your
hat on and say they're gonna be here. If I
get a five year contract, they're gonna be here, you
know what I mean for the town Like Cousins, They're like,
what Kirk Cousins, Well, you're gonna get a lot cheaperly
Kirk Cousins. You're not gonna have to commit for eighty
four million guaranteed. Brother, I'll tell you that you won't
be anywhere near that zip code. You won't be in
(01:04:23):
the same continent as eighty four million pool we guaranteed
for three years. Um, But there's this whole quarterback market
is just very different than last year. The draft I
mean this kid from Ohio State. UM, maybe Missouri or
Duke go in the first round also, but it's not
going to be anything close to five like last year.
You're not going to see multiple playoff quarterbacks traded like
(01:04:46):
we saw last year. And the free agent market isn't
nearly as as as bountiful either. UM. So yeah, I
think that hurts in Miami. I think that hurts at Denver,
where some coaches might not want a year of k
Keenum although the contract kind of sort of binds you
to him. I mean, you're gonna have to pay him
seven million if you get rid of them. I don't know,
(01:05:06):
you know, I I don't. I think that's the hindrance actually,
uh for some coaches, especially the coaches who are gonna
have options, we're gonna be able to call their own shots.
I don't think they're landing in Cincinnati or Denver or Arizona,
you know, or Tampa or Miami. Wow. He's Jason la
four CBS Sports NFL Insider. You can tweet him at
(01:05:26):
Jason lock And for Jason, my pleasure, always a pleasure
to have you on my friend, Love talking to you.
Enjoy the playoff games. Enjoy twenty nine team. We appreciate it.
You do the same. Thank you so much. Thank you
Jason locking for every but he's certainly the insider for
the NFL. All right, we'll come back. I want to
get to some calls. I want to get to some
of the tweets you did that you sent in. Plus
(01:05:47):
we gotta get to some of the playoff games first though.
Let's see what's trending with our buddy Steve the Saga.
What's going on to say? Texas has just extended its
lead at the Ship Bowl with a touchdown and two
point conversion. It's seven over fifth ranked Georgia under twelve
minutes left. We mentioned earlier that Texas got out to
a huge advantage on the Bulldog seventeen nothing in the
(01:06:11):
second quarter. They just on a long drive. Texas drove
down to the one yard line and the quarterback Sam
Allinger four straight carries from the one, three times stopped
and the fourth barely not stopped and scores. That's three
touchdown runs this evening for Ellinger and a three touchdown
lead for Texas. Number six. Ohio State at the Rose
Bowl led twenty eight to three early fourth quarter against
(01:06:33):
Washington Buckeyes held on twenty three in the lost Miles
gascon a couple of TV runs and a short touchdown pass.
The Fiesta Bowl went to l s U over Central
Florida forty thirty two. Bull wins for Kentucky and Iowa.
Oklahoma gave coach Lincoln Riley a contract extension. The Detroit
Lions and offensive coordinator Jim Bob Coonter parted ways. Dallas
(01:06:55):
guard Zack Martin returned to practice after his knee injury
to NBA basketball final seconds of overtime Portland's leading at
Sacramento one twelve to one oh eight. The only other
game still going Philadelphia is killing the Clippers in l
a not yet halftime at sixty still over three minutes
to go until the halftime break for Philadelphia, Toronto and
(01:07:15):
Milwaukee each gotta win. Denver has just come back to
beat New York one fifteen one oh eight Nicola Jokis
with a triple double including fifteen assists, So the Knicks
have lost eight straight college basketball wins for Florida State,
Virginia Tech, and St. John's, which on FS one tonight
upset sixteenth rank Marquette eighty nine to sixty nine. You're
(01:07:37):
not far off. It's Chris mas coaching St. John's. They
want in New York, and the New York Yankees agreed
to a deal with in fielder Troy Tulwitzky pending a fitical.
They get him cheap because Blue Chains are still paying
the bulk of that year salary. We'll be back to
Aready in ten seconds. But first, a word from farmers.
From a hotter landing on a car to a load
(01:07:58):
of concrete falling on one, we covered it. Talk to farmers.
We know a thing or two because we've seen a
thing or two. We are farmers under written my Farmers
truck Fire, Intrance, Exchanges and affiliates products not available in
every state. Again at the Sugar Bowl, three touchdown lead
for Texas in the fourth against fifth rank Georgia. Darn
all right, thanks a lot. At the Sager you want
(01:08:19):
to get in eight seven seven nine eight seven seven
six nine. I'm sitting in for Jason Smith and his
best friend Mike Harmon, getting a lot of tweets right now.
Like one next says, wait a minute, there's a rule
about Lebron James drinking wine isn't like Bron James a
grown ass man? Are these basketball? Are these like baseball?
(01:08:40):
Unwritten rules? These are unwritten white guy media rules. Who
put you in charge? And let me give you a
couple of things on that one neck. Uh. First of all,
it doesn't make it as what race I am that
that that's insignificant too. Not a good look coming in
drinking a glass of wine when your team is going
head and putting their bodies on the line to try
(01:09:02):
to win a game, right, Not a good look when
you're coming in boozing it up while your team is
going out there. You want some wine drinking before you
get there? Don't drink it? Why you're going there? That's
a bad look. Why you did that to begin with?
I have no idea why he had to go ahead
and drink it in front of everybody. It's just like
a blank you to everybody, is what he was doing. Um,
(01:09:25):
A couple of other ones. Didn't you, Eddie said? Didn't
you say that you wanted Colin Kaepernick for the Dolphins?
How soon we forget hey, I'll take Colin Kaepernick. We
need a quarterback. I don't think he's ever gonna play again,
so we can forget about that. Um, but I would
certainly take him one neck again. Hey fool, he I
guess one neck doesn't like anything. I've got to say.
(01:09:45):
The stewers voted Juju Smith because he earned the m
v P of the team, not because he was trying
to send the message Antonio Brown stop acting like a
fourteen year old girl looking for a backup, rolling mean girls,
to stop being petty re really, um, you know you
have a little bit of a point. They may have
voted him m v P because Juju Smith was fantastic,
(01:10:07):
but Antonio Brown is the MVP of the team, and
they were sending him a message. There's noah fans or
buts about that. They were sending him a message because
he walked out of them, and because he's done it
more than once, twice, three times. The guys a problem.
The guy's a cancer. If I'm a Steeler fan, I
want him off my team, and I want him off
my team now I don't need to headache. Unfortunately, it's
(01:10:30):
too much of a problem to get him off because
it counts too much against the cap, which I'm not
sure why if you want to trade somebody, why you
can't trade them even up you know, just get rid
of somebody, and why that would pedalize you. I understand
in the NBA you gotta get close to equal value,
But I don't understand why if you want to trade
(01:10:51):
somebody that even that cap number is gonna go ahead
and make you make it impossible for you to trade them.
Not to me doesn't make sense. Let me get to
some calls. Let me start with Kevin. Who's out in
Virginia Beach? Kevin, Good evening, You're on Fox Sports Radio.
What's going on? Kevin? Hey, how are you doing tonight?
I keep hearing you say how Antonio Brown turned his
(01:11:11):
back on his teammates. The person who turned their backs
on their teammates are the Rooneys by not giving Levian Bale,
who's probably the second the worst combination um running back
receiver in the NFL. They did, Can I just can
I just jump in here? They did give him a contract.
(01:11:32):
He was under contract that right, there was no guarantee,
and yes he was. He was gonna he was gonna
get twenty million dollars this year. You just heard our
guest for him that you're so correct. He was going
to get one year, twenty million dollars with no guarantees
for the future. So if he got injured, that means
(01:11:55):
his career is over. So why wait, why way the
wait a minute? I wanna ask you a question. Why
did they go ahead? Listen to you daily, and you
love ownership, you love management, so in your mind you
would love for all these guys probably to be not
(01:12:16):
even year to year, but week to week. An Tonio
Brown is the only person on earth who can do
what he does, so he deserves all the money he gets.
You can be an owner. We gave him the money,
he got the money. What does he want more? We
gave him the money, we gave him the years. Okay,
(01:12:37):
but not Levi. I'm bill, Well, that's not his business. Though.
Levian Bell is not Antonio Brown. It's not Antonio Brown's business.
Would I do with Levian Bell? Their teammates? So what
he's gonna do that to every one of his teammates
When you look at the big picture, the stillers of
(01:12:57):
the most talented offensive team in the lead, I would
ask you a question. Because Levian Bell didn't get his money,
That's why he left at halftime of the game last week.
I have no idea of all of the ends and
out but by not giving Levian that contract, it was
just a rural win effect on the Stiller season. Now,
(01:13:19):
please let me continue this. The stillers of the most
talented offensive team in the league. Every week, they should
be doing the same thing that the Kansas City Chiefs do,
but they don't because another reason the Rooney's turned their
back on their fans and on the team is by
not getting rid of the coach. He can't beat the Patriots.
(01:13:41):
They've got to wait. Wait, wait they First of all,
they beat him this year. I know they lost last
year to cost about high seed, and I understand that
didn't they make the playoffs. For the last five years,
they've only missed like the playoffs four times, and what
last fifteen years or something like that. And every time
that they're in the playoffs and they faced Bill Belichick,
what happened that wind that happened a couple of weeks
(01:14:02):
ago means nothing because it's the regular season. I knew
they were going to beat him in a regular season game.
But even if they would have made it to the playoffs,
they still wouldn't have beat the Patriot. So you want
you want Tomlin gone as Look, so there would have
been nine openings. Now, who do you want instead of Tomlin?
Some a new star, a new star. How about if
(01:14:24):
we send you you Jackson? How about that Marv Lewis.
Actually I would love to get Lincoln Riley, so would
everybody else. I appreciate the call, thank you for jumping in,
So would everybody else. Pretty signed an extension to stay
at Oklahoma. Not happening, Okay, not happening. Wake up, Dorothy
(01:14:44):
any m is calling? Okay, because you ain't getting Lincoln Riley.
You know, it's like the girlfriend that broke up with you.
She's gone. It's like that Hall of Odes song, She's
gone on. Oh she's gone. You better learn how to
face it. You pay the devil to replace, sir. You
know what I'm talking about. He's not coming. And if
(01:15:06):
you think if you're gonna fire Tomlin and you're gonna
bringing anybody else, you're fooling yourself. Tomlin has made the playoffs,
went like eleven and fifteen years. What's wrong with you?
And you're gonna tell me an Tonio Brown is doing
all of this because Levian Bell not his business. And
this has been going on all year with Levian Bell.
So don't give me any of that nonsense eight seven
(01:15:28):
seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven six six nine.
If you want to go and jump on him, or
stinking genius one, if you want to go ahead and
send me a tweet out there, We're getting a lot
of them right up now. Uh. David says, please shut
these fools up, saying that Antonio Brown cares about anyone
other than Antonio Brown. He'd probably prefer to throw the
(01:15:50):
ball to him every play. Let me hit the like
button on that one neck again. Wow, drinking wine is
blank you to everybody? Who the hell is everybody? It's
not like Lebrin James was playing that day. What the
hell are you talking about? Who says it looks bad?
The Archie Bunker segment of Sports Radio. I'm still gonna
(01:16:12):
hit the light button on that, yeah, because you know
what would have happen if he was walking in with
a six pack. Suppose he was smoking a cigar or
a cigarette or marijuana cigarette without a bit Mari watt
is legal there in l A. Why not just do that?
What is what is wrong with some of you guys? Seriously?
(01:16:36):
I mean you're just trying to push my buttons at
the New Year's resolution for twenty nineteen will come back
the exactly well come back update. This Texas Georgia game
has there's been another scoring and so maybe Georgia will
make a comeback and we'll get to some more of
your texts. Were flying on by Artie in for Jason
(01:16:59):
Smith and his best friend Mike Harmon right here on
Fox Sports Are Radio. Trust the process. Be sure to
catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike
Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio lapp. From
a car landing on a roof to a car landing
(01:17:19):
in the pool, We've covered it. Talk to farmers. We
know a thing or two because we've seen a thing
or two. We are farmers. Bum under written my farmers
truck fire insurance exchanges and affiliates products unavailable in every state.
I'd chip him out right off the bat. It's January one, now,
he'd be gone by January second. I probably you that
(01:17:40):
talking about Antonio Brown. By the way, George has scored
fourteen Georgia with the ball back. Georgia should be ashamed
in themselves only putting up fourteen points against a Big
twelve defense. I mean, really, it's it's down right embarrassing.
They used to They average thirty nine points a game.
I mean, Junior college has put up more points on
Big twelve defenses. Big twelve don't even have a defense.
(01:18:03):
I think they have just two way players out there.
That's how bad it is. Texas with the two touchdown
lead a little under seven minutes left in this one,
I we'll see if Georgia can mount that comeback. Josh says,
what the hell does the year have to do with anything?
Is Lebron opening up a vineyard in Sonoma? Isn't he
the father of three in the face of the Lakers.
(01:18:24):
That's a bad look in twenty nineteen, nineteen ninety nine,
or thirty nineteen, basically any year. It's a badly a
year out there. And then of course one net cast
answer that one. So we've gone from Lebron James having
a glass of wine and what happens that he brought
a six back to the game. Tell the truth, you
and the many in the media are just jealous. Lebron
(01:18:47):
won't bend to your wishes or kiss the media's ass
like m J did and Kanye West. He says, I'm
still you know, I I don't want him to do that.
That's that's not what it's about out. But when you
do something stupid, then you get called out. That's what
you get. That's what happens. And that was absolutely asinine. Uh.
(01:19:10):
And as we were talking about Antonio Brown, I can't
believe that he hasn't lost his teammates. I can't believe
that his teammates haven't said I'm done with this guy.
I mean, you don't walk away from us at halftime
and say that's it. I'm calling it a season, especially
with the playoffs on the line. Unbelievable. Right do we
(01:19:31):
have c J and Nashville? Do we want to go
ahead and get him real quick? C J? You're on
Fox Sports Radio. What's going on? C J? A great show.
I just want to point out a massive Viking fan,
and there's so many great fans up there. But I
feel like one of the greatest con jobs that's been
done in sports is their general manager. Rick Spielman is unbelievable.
(01:19:52):
If you look at his track record. Well, the Cousins,
the Cousins signing was was just hideous. I mean that's horrible.
Well and it is. That's the way his entire career
has been. Remember he his first time the day he
got the job, they ran brad Children's off, they gave
him the keys. He ran to the podium and took
Christian Ponder. Remember that's how he got started. With the Vikings.
(01:20:15):
They brought in Josh Freeman. He traded a first round
pick which ended up to be number thirteen for Sam
Bradford to the Eagles two years ago. He he tried
to trade up and this has been well documented and
all all your insiders will tell you this. He tried
everything in his power to trade up for Johnny Manziel
a couple of years back. Jerry Joe, Jerry Joges wanted
(01:20:38):
to take Johnny Manzel But the answer, so, so what's
next for the Vikings. Do they just shrug off this
year and bounce back and hope Cousins can can turn
it around, or is it gonna be about two more years.
It's gonna be a bad two more years. And that's
the problem they have right now. There's no way that
they can win behind Cousins. There's no way that they
can build a team around him. So what they needed
(01:20:59):
to do was bring in a fresh one of these
fresh young gms that is willing to say, hey, forget
about going and try to build pieces around this cousin.
Let's find a franchise quarterback. When is the last time
the Minnesota Vikings have had a franchise quarterback? They're not
willing to find one they don't have. I don't know,
Tommy Kramer, I don't know. You know, Culpepper, I don't know.
(01:21:25):
But the point is Rick Spielman and and he's had
twelve first round picks here in the last eight or
nine years, and he's blown just about everyone. And I
get I get the point. I appreciate I appreciate the car.
I see what just saying. I get the point. I
can see Viking fans very frustrated as the way this
season came to an end playoff spot on the line.
(01:21:46):
All you have to do is win. Uh, the Bears
had nothing to play for. You're playing at home and
you roll over like that. Uh, that can't happen. And
I know you've had some tough losses, but that one
loss against the Bills, I'm still scratching my head about that.
I don't know how something like that happens, that that's
beyond belief. You got over that, though, but some tough
(01:22:08):
losses against some quality teams. So I guess you gotta
go back and start fresh. I because it's gonna be
around another couple more years. You just gotta get him
a couple more weapons there. I didn't like the interaction
between him and Theeland on the sideline. Didn't like that
one at all. Thought he was in the wrong um
talking about cousins. Uh. Thelan was certainly obviously a little
(01:22:31):
perturbed about that whole situation. All right, our two in
the books were coming up at halftime. Everybody take a
deep breath. All right, we're gonna come back. We're going
to reset. Get more than Antonio Browns. I gotta get
to some of the ball games. Talk about the Rose ball.
I want to talk about Central Ford. Also, we could
Riley signs that extension, So I got some thoughts on that,
and we'll get to the championship game. We haven't got
(01:22:53):
to that with Alabama and Clemson. Arnie sitting in for
Jason Smith and his best friend Mike Harmon right here
on Fox Sports Radio. Be sure to catch live editions
of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harman weekdays at
ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific. All right, let's go
(01:23:13):
second half of the shows. We're coming to you live
from the Geico Fox Sports radio studios. Did you know
that fifteen minutes could save you fifteen per cent of
more in car insurance? So what do you have to do?
It's real simple. Visit Geico dot com for a free
rate quote. You want to be part of the show.
This is a good hour. Didn't book any guest this hour,
So if you want to jump in eight seven seven
(01:23:35):
Fox eight seven seven nine six six three six nine,
you want to send me a tweet? Real simple, Also
stinking genius one S T I N K I M
genius g E N I U S and the number one.
It's the first day of January, about to come the
secondary of January. Yeah, I, like everybody else, I make
(01:23:56):
my New Year's resolution. I want to lose some weight
to I think I could lose about three pounds I'm
guessing right, guys, about about three maybe three and a
half pound. Why don't we Why don't you do something
more realistic like half a pound? No, I'm gonna I'm
gonna shoot a little higher. I'm gonna shoot two pounds.
Maybe that's that's stream orients and I like it. I
(01:24:17):
don't need to lose more than two or three pounds really, yeah,
I know, I know, I do. I look real good. Yeah,
I need about two pounds three tops and or maybe
more like fifty pounds. But other than that though, you know,
I did get down the one not too long ago,
you know, I did. I did. I have pictures and
(01:24:37):
I settled in it about one nine. Now I'm back
at like two twenty ish right around there too. Yeah.
I could use uh, I could stay. See the problem
is I love cheesecake, and my wife's like, You've got
to eat more fruit. So I said, fine, I'll take
the chocolate off the cheesecake. I'll put strawberries on top
(01:24:59):
of the cheese. Saw a little strawberry cheesecake, My friend,
nothing nothing better than that. Oh that trusts me on that.
All right. We got a lot to get to, Like
I said eight seven seven ninety nine on fixtight seven
seven six nine, a couple of things I want to
get to it. I'm gonna get back to Antonio proudly
just a minute. But as we're wrapping up to college
(01:25:21):
football for the day, Texas leading Georgia one ten left
in the game. Good job by Georgia boy putting up
fourteen points on a big twelve defense. Uh, that's incredible.
Like I said, at junior college, should be able to
put up like four touchdowns on a big twelve defense
all year long. We saw scores in the forties, fifties, sixties,
(01:25:45):
and Georgia, this is what you do. And then you
were screaming like a bunch of cowards. We should have
been in the four team championship when you saw that
Clemson lost thirty to three. Uh not based on this before.
That's for sure. This is one of the biggest embarrassed.
This is more of an embarrassment than what Clemson did
(01:26:05):
to Notre Day. That's horrible. This has been horrible. So again,
eight seven, seven and ninety nine on Fox. If you're
a Georgia fan, I know you're probably thinking, well, they're
probably watching the game. No, they stopped watching this game
a long time ago. If you're a UCF fan, what
did you think of the loss to l s U.
(01:26:28):
They lost forty to thirty two. Now they were really
out gained. L s U outgained them almost two to one.
Burrow through for almost four hundred yards and four touchdowns.
UCF even and I have a hundred yards through the air.
But I guess the bottom line is the final score
L s U one forty thirty two. So you tell
me good showing for U c F. Does it prove
(01:26:51):
that they go ahead and deserve a shot? If we
ever expanded from four to eight? Do they deserve a shot?
If it was four, probably not, But maybe when we
go from four to eight, if if that ever happens,
why not. I thought they put up a pretty good show.
And I've been anti UCF all this year, but that
game winning streak, and I know a lot of it's
(01:27:11):
been against Patsy's out there. But after what you did
againstell Us, you don't start with the ls. You had
nobody they were missing like Ted eleven players. I I
understand that, but I can't do anything about that. I
can only go by the score of the game. I
don't care how many people you were missing, or where
the game was, or what kind of ball game it was.
I can't you know that that. That's not my concern
(01:27:34):
right now. My concern is that Central for to put
up a pretty good fight, and I think they deserve
a chance if this thing everyone from eight to four
and they have the record. That's what this playoff is
all about, getting teams like that in to see if
they can take the next step. So eight seven seven,
if you want to talk about that, eight seven seven,
nine six nine. I was watching the earlier Bowl games.
(01:27:57):
I saw the rose ball and you can still see
that's why they call it the Granddaddy of them all.
The place was packed, beautiful weather, The Ohio State fans
showed up, the Washington fans showed up, but still there
was something missing. It still didn't have that feel like
it always has on January one, and I know it
had the spotlight to itself. It it negotiated that deal,
(01:28:21):
but the fact that we had the four team playoff
a couple of days earlier. These games are nothing but
meaningless exhibition games, and I know we've always felt like
that since we started the playoff, But today was something different.
Today was like, Okay, I'll watch the game, but there's
no real meaning. There's no real reason for any of
them to go out to win, except for maybe Ohio
(01:28:42):
statements they wanted to send Urban Meyer out of winner.
There was just something missing. From this January first game.
All day today it was like that. And I'm wondering
if it's because of the four team playoff, even though
we've had that for years now. UM, but it really
sucked away the fun and the energy, uh from from
January one, from these bowl games that we used to
(01:29:05):
love so much. I want to get I want you
to comment on that also, and I brought up the
reason I want to go from four teams to eight
teams UH and increase the playoffs system. I don't want
neutral site games anymore. I'm I'm done with neutral site games.
I think they're horrible. I really think the next wave
is to have him on campus sites. That's the way.
(01:29:28):
If we go from four to eight, then we have
to have him on campus sites. Then you get that field,
the pageantry, the excitement. That's what we love about college football.
Look at the championship game Alabama Clemson. They're gonna be
playing it up at Santa Clara. Unbelievable. The tickets were
four d and fifty dollars. Now they're down to like
(01:29:50):
two hundred dollars, and I bet you they're gonna get cheaper.
And I don't blame them. I don't. I don't think
Alabama fans or if I'm a Clemson fan, I want
to travel all the way up there to northern California
on short notice in non holiday season time. Who could
afford all that and certainly certainly not the students. So
(01:30:12):
we're taking away the fun part, the exciting part of
what we love about college football by taking it away
from the campuses. Now, the super Bowl is a whole
nother story. That you have to have a neutral site
that I understand. That's more of a spectacle, that's more
of a weeklong thing. Doesn't make a difference who's in
the super Bowl. People like to watch, people like to attend.
(01:30:33):
That's different. In college football championship You've got to be
a fan of that team. And I think we're missing
the boat when we have in places like Santa Clara
and places like that instead of having it on home campuses.
Could you imagine if the game, if the championship game
was in Tusco Looosa, Alabama, and the excitement and the
(01:30:57):
students there and and the fans, that's what it's about.
That's where it should happen. But we're never gonna get
that until we go from four to eight. As long
as we have four, we're always gonna have neutral sight games.
And that's what I want to get rid of. So
eight seven seven eight seven seven six, if you want
to go ahead, jump out of him. And we started
(01:31:18):
off the show talking about Antonio Brown, and I said this,
as we start off twenty nine team, this should be
the year of no more drama or the year of
no more divas. I know it's gonna be almost impossible
for the Pittsburgh Steelers to trade Antonio Brown, but I
want to know what the heck happened? Did he really
(01:31:39):
throw a football at Ben Roethlisberger? Did they really have
a heated argument? He missed three days of practice this week,
showed up expected to play, and the Steeler said no, no, no, no,
we don't play that game. You're inactive. So what does
he do? He hangs around and then the lead at halftime,
(01:32:01):
turns his back on his teammates. Of course, his teammates
voted Juju Smith as the m v P. I don't
know when that vote was taken, but I think it's
a I think it's sending a message to Antonio Brown. Hey,
Juju Smith is our m v P, not you and
(01:32:21):
I think that's a slap in the face a little
bit to Antonio Brown. You know I brought this up earlier.
If the Steelers could just trade him and not worry
about the cap or the hit that they would take,
and just have somebody pick up the salary, I would
do it in a heartbeat. I don't need this type
of attitude. And a couple of callers called him and said, well,
(01:32:42):
it's because of what happened to Levian Bell. I don't
care what happened to Levian Bell. He's not Levian Bell.
He's Antonio Brown. Nor to his business what Levean Bell
is making and not make him. And Levian Bell was
due to make twenty million dollars this year, so don't
worry about Levian Boll. He'll go somewhere else. If you
(01:33:04):
don't like Levean Bell is not gonna be a Pittsburgh
steer anymore, well then maybe you should have signed your
long term contract before Leviane Bow did. Maybe you should
have said, you know what, franchise tagged me another year
and let me see what you're gonna do with Levian Bow.
But you took your money. You're happy to sign that contract.
That nobody blames you for that. But now you're gonna
(01:33:24):
give back an attitude after you've got your contract. Oh
heck no, not if it was my team, Not if
I were the Rooney's. And I think the Rooneys are
gonna do the right thing. They're probably not gonna pay
much attention to it, though, I bet you behind closed doors,
they're saying to themselves, man, I wish I can get
this guy gone. Man, I wish we didn't give him
the long term contract and he was just gone out
(01:33:46):
of here. And I don't think I could blame him.
I want to get to some calls. Eight seven, seven
ninety nine. Fix. Let me start with is it Dustin
in West Virginia? Is that where we're starting? Or do
we get them already? Do we get them? All right?
Go ahead? Does to talk to me? You're on five
sports radio? All right? Well, first, thank you for having me.
Happy New Year. I just want to say, as a
(01:34:09):
Ravens fan, I am loving what's going on up in
Pittsburgh because while while we're building something special down here
in Baltimore, granted I'm still on I'm not on the
Lamar train yet, but you know, up in Pittsburgh. I
don't know what's going on. UM, I just wanted to
say I completely agree. This situation has nothing to do
(01:34:31):
with Levy on Bell and the fact that people are
slinging to that is ridiculous. Antonio Brown got his money.
He doesn't care about anyone but himself. And if I'm
a Pittsburgh Dealers fan or if I'm the Steelers, I
don't want him anymore. The most damaging thing is that
he left at halftime. You can't leave it half time
(01:34:52):
when your team is fighting out for a playoff. Birth
exactly exactly, how do you turn your back when your
teammates and the next then to still accept you that
this is nonsense, that is that's like your wife. That's
like your wife giving birth, and while she's giving birth,
you say, you know what, honey, I'm gonna go away
and watch the game with the guys. I'll see you later. Yeah.
(01:35:14):
If there was a if there was any Ravens player
currently who turned their back on us and walk out,
I would not want him back in Baltimore. I don't
care who it is. If it's p J. Moseley, if
it's Lamar Jackson, I don't care that you don't you
do not do that to your team, And anyone who
makes an excuse for that is a fanboy who does
(01:35:34):
not want to realize the truth. All right, let me
let me ask you one more question before you go.
Joe Flacco, if another team picked him up, is he
gonna be a quarterback that could take a team to
the playoffs? I'm not even saying super bowls. He's still
a good quarterback or he is just washed up? Um.
The thing with Flacco and I've honestly, I've been on
(01:35:55):
his side for years on this fact. He has to
be in the right system. If you give him in
the right system, he can do some damage. And if
he gets in the playoffs, he's a good quarterback. Now, granted,
I would not I would not wish that upon anyone
because I would unload Joe Flacco. I would unload Joe
Flacco for a bag of ships right now. That's right.
(01:36:16):
But he just said he's a good quarterback in the playoffs.
But you're a loaded for a bag of chips. Well
within our current system, within our current system, I'm gonna
let me. I gotta let you go. I appreciate the call.
I appreciate the call. Eight seven seven ninety fix eight
seven seven six three six night come back. We'll take
more your calls. Um. I also want to talk about
(01:36:37):
what happens if we did expand it from four to eight.
We'll touch on that a little bit. And let's get
a little bit into the Alabama Clemson Championship. And we've
got that coming up in in about what five days,
so we'll get into that. Also, aren't sitting in for
Jason Smith and Mike Harmon right here on Fox Sports Radio.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
(01:37:00):
in pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the I
Heart Radio Lap. From a heart of a little landing
on a car to a load of concrete falling on one,
We've covered it, talked to farmers. We know a thing
or two because we've seen a thing or two. We
are farmers under written my Farmer's Truck Fire Insurance exchanges
and affiliates products unavailable in every state. I love this song.
(01:37:27):
I was listening to it on my eight track on
the way in good evening. Everyone already sitting in for
Jason Smith and his best friend Mike harmon last filling
day for me. The guys will be back tomorrow. Torres
was six, so he couldn't sit in with me. Feel sick.
He's got scurvy. I think what exactly scurvy when you
don't have enough fruits and vegetables. I think when like
(01:37:50):
people went setting around with pirates early in like the
eighteen hundreds, I think that's when they got a lot
of scurvy. It wasn't that just called a sunburn. Wow,
you know I thought, I fired you. Oh you did
my bad. I'll leave. Don't make me tell everybody on
the air what you just said. Yeah, I said, ready
player one instant classic. You asked me, you know what
(01:38:12):
I'm gonna have to em paris you Alex tie shirt my,
what do you do? By the way, what's your type?
I just sit here and make sure you sound good. Okay?
So he just sits there, says to me at the break,
favorite movie. I said, oh, that's easy, Animal House. And
then Alex, why don't you tell everybody? What was the
next thing out of your mouth? I said, can you
give me a quick synopsis of the movie? And I said,
you're fired? You did? And then I said why is that?
(01:38:33):
And you say, because if you don't know what animal houses,
there's something seriously wrong with you. I'm telling you any
you gotta watch Ready Player one and we can talk.
Listen to me. You should be ashamed of yourself. I
hope you don't go out in public like that. I'm
trying to educate you. If somebody said, hey, so Adam
saw a TV the other night and you said, oh,
tell me about it, I feel bad for you. So
(01:38:57):
you're saying I shouldn't have warned the what's animal House
shirt tonight? Gosh, this is what I'm talking about. That's
like saying, oh, there's a movie about World War Two
and you say, yeah, give me a synopsis. What's it about?
What is wrong with you? I've never seen Animal House? Seriously,
I'm gonna have to fire you because of that. Now.
(01:39:17):
I guess I'll try to find a blockbuster and rented. Ouch.
That's not funny. Don't laugh at that. You're just you're
just egging him on when you laugh at that. By
the way, how if you wanted to rent that? How
would you do that? You just go to what YouTube?
Or you just go on Xbox Netflix. You can get
a red box, there's anything. You're a homework. You cannot
come back to work until you watch Animal House, best
(01:39:39):
movie ever. All right, I'll go watch it tonight. You're embarrassment,
all right, if you want to get him? Eight seven
I've look, I've never seen et so there's you know,
there's been some classics I've never seen. Yeah, that's a
good one. Well, I already know how it ends, you know,
or you know the alien gives everybody the finger and
he goes home. Is that how it right? Not the
(01:40:00):
way it is? Don't give everybody the finger. I think
I watched the wrong movie. Eight seven seven ninety nine
Fox eight seven seven six nine. If you want to
go ahead and jump on in. You know, we didn't
even talk about the playoff games yet, and I want
to get to the Cowboy game real quick, just touching
on one of them. I think what the Cowboys have
(01:40:21):
done unbelievable to win that division, even though it wasn't
that heart of a division. Once Washington I lost third quarterback,
you knew it was done. Philadelph. You didn't have enough
in the tank, so they weren't going to win it.
But I'll give filling up your credit for getting into
the playoffs. The Cowboys have a really good defense. It's
their offense that's just so and so. And I'm really
(01:40:41):
you know, after the first year I put Dak Prescott
in the one Year Hall of Fame. Yeah, I'm ready
to take him out of that thing. I I'm still
uh thinking that he's not the long term answer for
the Cowboys. But that being said, the Cowboys will lose
to the Seahawks in the first round. The Cowboys are
(01:41:02):
the worst team in the playoffs out of all twelve teams.
Their offense is not explosive enough even with Ezekiel Elliott
to get enough points on the board. The Seahawks defense
will be able to stop them, and the Seahawks will score.
So I like a lot of the road teams in
the wild card round, but I I really think the
(01:41:25):
Seahawks is one of my favorite. Not thinking the Cowboys
and Cowboy fans are gonna be upset because had they
not made the playoffs, had they not won the division,
I think Jason Garrett would have been fired and they
would have moved on from him. But I guess he
gets to keep his job for a little bit longer.
And they're still not gonna win the playoffs. What a
horrible twenty year run it's been for the Cowboys. And
(01:41:46):
that's obviously not all Jason Garrett's fault, but it's been
a horrible what eight to ten years with him? Never
get to some calls eight seven seven eight seven seven
six three six nine, Maybe go to you, you know,
let me go to the Mike. Who's in Virginia, Mike Drop,
So let's go to Mitchell, who's in Miami. Mitchell, You're
(01:42:07):
on Fox Sports Radio. What's going on? Mitchell Arnie? I
gotta say your show and Rich Eyes and are my
favorite shows. Well, I appreciate that, um, And even though
I quit gambling, I still look listen to your picks
go opposite. It's been pretty bad this year, that's for sure.
What's going on? And talk to me. We'll talk about
about twenty year run. I'm about the Miami Dolphins, and
(01:42:28):
I could think speak for most. I was born here
in Miami in the sixties and enjoyed, you know, seventy two,
seventy three, Marino. After Marino, it's been it's been a disaster. Yeah,
I know that it's embarrassing. I know the history. Yes,
I know. After Marino, it has been embarrassing. Did you know,
like out of the last hundred thirty games, the Dolphins
are like sixty five and sixty five. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
(01:42:52):
they're they're actually they're sixty five and sixty seven now,
but they lost their last two games. Their mediocre, they're
they're the missed the hare to be of mediocrity. And
I appreciate the phone call. That's why it's so frustrating
being a Dolphin fan every year seven and nine, eight, eight,
nine and seven enough already. I mean, that's why I
(01:43:13):
have no hair left on my head. You know, I
have nothing to root for the rest of the year.
And it's only January one. My New York Knicks are
eliminated from any playoff race. My Mets have been eliminated
in the season hasn't even started yet. My Arizona Wildcats
and basketball might not even make the n c Double
(01:43:34):
A tournament. So I gotta wait till next September until
football starts again. From my Dolphins, and it doesn't even
look good. They don't even have a coach or a
quarterback right now, so I don't even have that. I
don't even have that going for me. And then we
go to Corey, who's in Nashville. Corey, you're on Fox
(01:43:55):
Sports Radio. What's going on, Corey? Arnie from Barney, what's up?
Man talked to me Corey? All right, man, So this
is my thought process. You got Antonio Brown, a sixth
round pick, and we dealt with this kind of issue
here in Tennessee with Richard Matthews, a former seventh round pick.
Both of them were divas, and it's just kind of
(01:44:16):
interesting to me how you could be such a diva
and yet you were picked so late in the draft.
But that's not even the point. Now, he got his money,
he got big money, he got his contract. What is
he so upset about? I think I think the biggest
thing for him is, you know, he just wants to
be the center of attention there in Pittsburgh. And no, no, no,
he's getting no come on, come on. This has nothing
(01:44:38):
to doing and I appreciate the call. This has nothing
to do with being the center of attention. You got
your money, you caught the contract, and now you're throwing
footballs at Ben Roethlisberger. You're having fights with him. You've
you've you've walked away from the team three times. You
didn't go to a couple of practices this week. You
walked away from your teammates at halftime. No, no, no, no,
there's there's a lot more than that. It's more than
(01:44:59):
just wanting to be the center of attention or look
at me. You got your contract, you got your money.
I'd have to ask you an Tonio Brown if I
was talking to him on if he was coming up next,
I go, Tonio, what's your problem? What exactly is bothering you?
Tell us right now? That would be my first question.
(01:45:22):
Is it because Levian Bell didn't get his contract because
you got yours? Why you're fighting with Ben at seven
too and one? I didn't hear the fighting when you
guys were seven two and one. The fighting wasn't there,
But now it's all over the place. I can't endorse
a guy who leaves at halftime, who turns his back
(01:45:46):
on his team, on his teammates while they're fighting out
for a playoff spot. And as they said, it's telling
that they suspended him for his game. They said, you
know what, playoff or no playoff. We don't even want
you on the football field this last game, even if
for paying you millions and millions of dollars. We don't
(01:46:07):
watch out here. We don't want you, we don't need you.
That's what they're saying. You understand that. I'm not making
that up. When you tell a guy you're not playing
because you missed a couple of practices, you didn't let
us know where you were, You're not wanted take a hike. Unfortunately,
I don't know where they're going to go ahead and
(01:46:29):
move him to because of the it's so tough to
trade him. That's the problem, Mike says, already making jokes
about people having scurry is scurvy is fine. When he
was in college, it was the number one reason why
students miss class. No, it is not. That is not
Nobody has scurvy anymore. Nobody gets that anymore. We're gonna
(01:46:55):
come back. Take more of your calls. I want to
talk more about the playoffs. We gotta get to that
a little bit um. Where the upsets coming from. Who
do you like in the first round? I do want
to know. Eight seven seven nine nine on Fox eight
seven seven nine nine six six six nine. First though,
let's see what's trending with our buddy Steve. What's going on?
(01:47:17):
Texas wins the Sugar Bowl over fifth ranked Georgia. Arnie
Stewart Mandel, longtime college football writer runs the Athletic Now,
says not exactly the strongest argument for expanding the college
football playoff. This bowl season saw losses by the Committee's
number three, four, and five ranked teams. Number seven, eight,
and nine also lost their bowl games. Does nobody care?
(01:47:39):
Including number five Georgia, which fell behind seventeen nothing to
Texas second quarter Longhorns win at twenty one quarterback Sam
Ellinger with three touchdown runs and a two point pass.
Sixth ranked Ohio State led the Rose Bowl three yearly
fourth quarter twenty three over Washington the final Dwayne Haskins
three t d passes in the first half. Bowl wins
(01:48:00):
l s U, Kentucky and Iowa. What Bowl? What? What
trophy are they getting for the Sugar Bowl? Being number five?
What are they celebrating that they the Sugar Bowls like
winning the Orange? What is winning the Sugar Bowl? Big word?
Number five? Were number five? The balls? They consider it
a thing unto itself. As as you well know. In
the NBA's late game in l A, Philadelphia has had
(01:48:21):
a big lead most of the night. It's now one
oh five ninety with ten minutes to go, seventy six
ers ahead of the Clippers. Toronto got forty five points
from Kawhi Leonard and beat Utah one two to one
sixteen kay Kyle Lowry was out again with the bad bag.
Milwaukee and Denver each god wins. Portland won in overtime
at Sacramento. In the NHL outdoor game at Notre Dame Stadium,
(01:48:44):
Boston a four to winner over Chicago. Nashville tonight shut
out Philadelphia for nothing, in Vegas shut out the King's
to nothing, and the Yankees have reportedly agreed to a
deal with infielder Troy to Lewitsky pending a physical. Some
reports say that doesn't necessarily mean they're saying no to
Manny Machado. It's just they're getting to Lewitsko to Lewitsky
really cheap, because the Blue Jayson paying the bulk of
(01:49:07):
his contract will be back to Arnie in ten seconds.
But first to words from farmers. From a car landing
on a roof to a car landing in the pool,
we've covered it. Talk to farmers, we know a thing
or two, because we've seen a thing or two. We
are farmers under writ my farmers stop fire insurance exchange
that affiliates products unavailable in every state. Hey, back to
the man filling in on the Jason Smith Show, Arnie Spaniards,
(01:49:29):
all right, thank you the sager filling in for Jason
Smith and his best friend Mike Carmen. The guys will
be back tomorrow. Don't worry about it. They've had a
long extended vacation for the Christmas holidays in New Year's
so they'll be back at it tomorrow or refreshed, no
doubt about that. You want to get in eight seven
seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven six three
(01:49:51):
six nine. I would say, my partner erin Torres, or
should I say my former partner that was supposed to
be here today is tweeting and then it can't come
to the show today. But he's tweeting because Paul says,
l O L. Look who woke up from his hangover
because Torres is treating and Torres goes no hangover. I'm
(01:50:12):
on the couch under the covers, my tune in to
hear what Arnie says. Even though he claims none of
these ball games mean anything, Well, no, I mean they're celebrating.
What place did they finished in Texas? For for winning
this game? Their number? What it's not number five like
their number nine, number eleven, something like that. Way to go,
(01:50:33):
Way to go? Yea. By the way, I mean, are
you on the couch under the covers? If you could
get off out of the bed and go to the couch,
then you could go ahead and get in your car
driving the work. And you're not, Oh I'm under the covers.
(01:50:55):
I got my nose is itchy and it's scratchy. But
you see, that's the problem with millennials. Point seven temperature,
they're gone gone, can't work today, can't do it. That's
what I just said, point seven. Could you imagine if
(01:51:17):
I called the boss going, you know, got ninety eight
point seven temperature today, don't I don't think I can
make it? In my voice a little scratchy, scratchier than usual,
I can't make it. Or if I said, you know,
just feel a little under the weather, not only feel
like today, boss, can't make it in today. Can't do it.
(01:51:40):
Can't do it, can't do it, can't do it. They
are no problem. Take a week off, go ahead and
get yourself better. Yeah, yeah, there you go. That's why
I get on millennials all the time. All right, I
do want to get to some calls. Eight seven seven
ninety Fox. We talked about some of the games. I
don't like the Cowboys. I don't think that they're gonna
(01:52:01):
get by the Seahawks, though the Texas and the Colts
very intriguing. I gotta respect what the Culture have done
after starting one in five to go nine in one,
and I know they haven't had the hardest games, but
that's still fantastic. And the Texas, let's not forget that
they started owing three. These two teams, the chances of
(01:52:22):
them making the playoffs and playing each other in the
first round after the Texas started oh and three of
the Culture one in five would be like point o
O O one pent. I mean, I don't know that
for a fact, but neither the use so nobody could
correct me. Seriously, it's it's gonna be so improbable that
being said, man is Andrew Luck on a roll or
(01:52:43):
what I thought his career was done. I didn't think
he was gonna be able to bounce back like this,
especially after they started one in five yards passing almost
forty touchdowns. The question is could he do with one
more time against that Texans defense. I'm starting to lead
towards the text in this one because I think the
defense prevails and then playing at home could be the
(01:53:05):
difference maker to me, the Chargers Ravens. I mean, how
awesome is that one? The Ravens. You know, I gotta
worry about having a rookie quarterback making his first start
in the playoffs, talking about Lamar Jackson, and as well
as he's been playing, I still got doubts that he's
(01:53:25):
gonna be able to throw the ball throw the Ravens
to get a victory. Now, the Charges have had a
history of not doing well in the playoffs, but this
is gonna be a different Charger team. Let me tell
you something. Twelve wins this year and with a pretty
tough schedule and we're just kind of burying them and
they didn't get any favors now that they have to
be a number five seed. But I might be leading
(01:53:47):
towards the Charges. Not that I'm sinking to an upset
because it's only like a two point spread, but I'm
thinking the Charges have enough offense to get points on
the board against that that defense. For the Ravens, and
then who knows what the Ravens offense is gonna be
with rookie quarterback in the playoffs. Don't let gold rookie
quarterbacks in the uh in their first time making the playoffs, right,
(01:54:09):
I know there's people on hold eight seven seven. I
get to the Philly Eagles game a little bit later on.
Let me go to Wow. Let me start with Mike.
Who's in Louisiana. Mike, you're on Fox Sports Radio. What's
going on? Miked? New Year you tube? My friend talked
(01:54:30):
to me, Mike, I was I was talking about in
my house and uh ready, Player one, I think you're
cod has never seen And that's the kind of movie
you put in the fan captain, that's one of the
greatest all time. I should fire him for not even
knowing what it's about. If he's if he's ever saved?
(01:54:52):
Dan Wilder Animal Houses, Van Wilder, Hey, what about you?
Are you? Are you an LSU fan or what when
I'm I'm an l s U fan? Uh? You know
they're coming around. They did a good job today. The
Central FORDA deserved the Central Ford to deserve to play
(01:55:14):
against the big boys. If we have a playoff next
year with eight um, I'm I think they do. I
think they do. They deserve to have an opportunity. Uh.
But at the same time, look at how staking what
they did today. At the same time, you know, look
at a lot of these other schools and and I'm
musta I'm gonna say it's real quick. You know, when
(01:55:36):
people think about Frankastad, I always think about you know,
the folks and the and the man walking with the
head Freaker Stein is the scientist that's Streaker stands monster
that people think about it. So when you create a monster,
you can't control a moster, you always got the pitch
to pick for the after the monster, you create this
master you can't control. You never go out to the side.
(01:55:58):
And they signed, And I think when you talk about
this playoff system, yeah, you create a moster you can't control,
you know what I'm saying. And that's all. It's the
end of the dance. All about the money. And I
hold a little to see. I mean, it's the Vision
one and it's I'm Barnad in the Mississippi to Jackson
sat and that Louisa Chenna out of Tech to the world.
If the Vision one double, they can pay a six
(01:56:20):
t T playoff system, which there'll be playing for the
national championship. I think in January, the field, I think
we can we can boost it up. But you know,
it's all about the money. You're right, Mike. I appreciate
the call. Its all about the money. That's why I'm
eventually gonna be right where we go from four to
eight quickly. I want to squeeze in Kevin in Orlando. Kevin,
you're on Fox Sports Radio. What's going on? Kevin talking
(01:56:43):
about Philip Rivers and but you was talking about the playoffs. Uh,
I think the Charger's got a pretty good chance that
uh even going on the road to uh make it
pretty far in the playoffs. Well, that's a pretty tough defense.
They've got to go aufter and they got no favorites
being the number five seed. Yeah yeah, and then uh
(01:57:05):
he's uh he's a what does that mean? Yeah? Yeah, yeah,
you just like shrugged me off. I got like I said,
that was no meaning yeah, yea, yeah you were. Do
you remember it was a several years ago Dan Marino
was hired as kind of a figurehead for the Dolphins,
and uh, he sat down and had dinner with silip
rivers and the Dolphins basically told them that they wouldn't
(01:57:29):
they didn't want to draft him and damn Marino quit. Okay,
I appreciate the call. I I don't know where that
part came from. And by the way, did he just
shrug me off when I when I brought up the
point that they have no favorites as a five seed
lead by producer? Did he just go yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
like my opinion means nothing. Just shrug me off like that,
(01:57:49):
Yeah yeah, your opinion means nothing, Arnie? Yeah yeah, yeah yeah.
Let me just shrug you off, Arnie and go I'd
go to more my opinions? Is it the Arnie Show
of the Kevin and Orlando Show? I kind of like
what he had to say. Maybe we should make it
the Kevin and Orlando Show. Then, all right, when we
get back, let's check in with the saga, see the
late scores, late news and notes, all that's coming up next,
(01:58:12):
Arnie for Jason Smith and Mike Carmen right here on
Fox Sports Our Radio. Be sure to catch live editions
of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at
ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific from a dog accidentally
flooding a living room to a dog taking a joy ride.
We've covered it. Talk to farmers. We know a thing
or two. Because we've seen a thing or two. We
(01:58:32):
are farmers under written my farmer's chock fire insurance exchanges
and affiliates products unavailable in every state. All right, good
evening everyone. Aren't he sitting in for Jason Smith and
his best friend Mike Harmon almost three hours in the books.
Let's check in with her buddy, Steve the Sager was
(01:58:53):
happening out there, Well, aren'tie? We have to start out
with a near mascot on mascot crime before the bot this.
I didn't think that was a good idea, but they're like,
check out this video. We're gonna introduce the baskets. I'm like,
you know. It was in New Orleans. Course, the Georgia
bulldog Ugga. He was actually placed in front of the
pen that was holding the Texas longhorn Viva Vivo, and
(01:59:15):
so they Ugga. The bulldog is just now seated and
well horns down for people. He starts charging out of
his pen. This is out sounded. Photographers go scattering. The
bulldog goes running the handler for the Texas longhorn actually
grabs one of the longhorns to try and keep him
(01:59:37):
from charging. Luck Stab. It was a precursor for how
the game went because Texas was up seventeen nothing in
the second quarter and eventually beat number five Georgia, so Foxes.
Bruce Feldman reports the Bull records by conference SEC finishes
six and five, uh five and four record for the
(01:59:58):
Big Ten Conference. USA actually had the best winning percentage
at four and two. The two bottom ones the MAC
Conference one and five, well three and four, so they
were better than last year. Central Florida's American Athletic Conference
went two and five. You CEF had one twenty five
straight games twelve and oh this year until losing to
(02:00:20):
l s U. And aren'tie Anyone who saw this saw
the whipping that you CEF took in this game, and
let me stay first and four billion players. L s
u S defense was missing most of its starters, I
mean like nine out of eleven I think it was.
But Central Florida was missing a star quarterback. I'm just
(02:00:42):
saying that there were people missing on the other side too,
So you can't say, well, for example, that great runback
of the opening kickoff. Is that because Central Florida's quarterback
is out, No l s U was. If if they
weren't hold to the held to the four short field
goals in this game, it would have been fifty plus
points and it would have been a blowout. At Joe Murrow,
(02:01:02):
this is guy who transferred from Ohio State, finally has
his moment. He threw for almost four hundred yards and
four touchdowns in this game. Time of possession advantage for
l s U was about forty five minutes to fifteen.
At one point it was five hundred yards to one
L s U. So it looks close on the final score,
and I'm not saying that forty to thirty two CASS
(02:01:26):
Central Florida got a late touchdown, but my goodness, LSU
had thirty two first downs in this game. You cef
falls they put up the graphic. You know, it was
an obvious question. When's the last time they actually lost
a game? Because it was a twenty five game winning street.
I believe it was Arkansas State was the last UCF.
So can we just say out loud that these Fiesta
(02:01:48):
Bowl competitors today, Central Florida and l s U both
top twenty teams. Neither deserved to be in the top four.
That's all we're saying. Not top four. But if we
ever make it to eight, and I can see that,
I would never pump putting such. But take that stupid
National champions thing off your stadium. Yeah, the rest of
(02:02:08):
the country is laughing at that. Well, I guess now,
so there you go. Meanwhile, it was Jake Browning as
the Washington quarterback that actually piled up the yardage after
they were down big. He wound up throwing for over
three hundred yards. That was a good scene. It was
nice full crowd. Yeah, nine thousand a sellout. Compare that
to Tampa and the Outback Bowl with Iowa's win forty
(02:02:32):
thousand the attendants in an NFL stadium and not full
at the Fiesta Bowl by the way, in Arizona for
that game. Either, the news from Oklahoma that they give
coach Lincoln Riley a contract extension, there there goes he's
not going to the NFL. All those people that wanted
Lincoln Riley, Mike said he would have cut off his pinkies. Well,
he prefaced that by the Mark Willard story of Marcus
(02:02:54):
with the Golden State prediction and then they lost the finals,
and off his arms if it's what he said. He
he still has both of them, but they're still coach
openings head coach openings in the NFL. On a quarter
of the team's report from BS and Denver that the
X Broncos head coach fans Joseph will interview for the
Bengals head coach opening. Also, Yahoo says that Cliff Kingsbury,
(02:03:16):
who's the new USC offensive coordinator, acts of Texas Tech.
He's expected to get coach interviews with the Jets and
the Cardinals. And we heard from Jason Lawkin four earlier.
He had reported today that the Patriots defensive coordinator Brian
Flores will be interviewing with the Broncos. Floor is gonna
be interviewing with like three or four teams, that seems like.
And of course Mike McCarthy X of Green Bay is
(02:03:37):
out there. He's going to interview with the Browns on Thursday.
Jim Bob Cooter, Detroit Lyons offensive coordinator is done. You
mentioned the playoffs this weekend, Dallas hosting Seattle. Guard Zack
Martin did return to Cowboy practice today. He'd been out
with a knee injury. All right, thanks a lot, the sager.
Can you believe three hours or in the books and
the Power Hours coming up next. You want to get
(02:03:58):
into the show, It's real simple. You better start dialing
now eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven
seven nine nine six six six nine if you want
to send me a tweek getting lots of those tonight
at stinkin Genius one st I N K I M
genius g E N I U S and the number one.
I'm already. This is Fox Sports Radio. Be sure to
(02:04:21):
catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike
Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio app. Oh
that's me, that's me, that's me. Good evening. Everyone will
come in too. You live from the Geico Fox Sports
Radio Studios. Did you know that fifteen minutes could save
(02:04:42):
you fifteen percent of more in car insurance? What do
you gotta do? Visit geiko dot com for a free
rate quote. I'm sitting in for Jason Smith and his
best friend Mike Harmon. Last hour of sitting in. I've
been doing it all last week. This week they'll be
back tomorrow, much needed vacation for the duo. Torres was
supposed to be sitting in for me, but he has
(02:05:03):
with me. But he's got scurvy, I believe, so he
decided to take the night off. Also, he's got like
the millennial flu. I think when you have like ninety
eight point seven was his temperature? Yes, I know nine
the eight point six is normal. You have ninety eight
point seven. You know, millennials can't work when they have
a little bit of a temperature. So I think he
decided to call in sick. You want to get into
(02:05:25):
the show eight seven seven ninety nine eight seven seven
six six three six nine, Uh, if you want to
send me a tweet, real simple stinking genius one S
T I N K I M genius G E N
I U S and the number one will get to
those a little bit. Bertie Fratto will join us in
about twenty minutes from now, why from Las Vegas. He'll
(02:05:48):
give us the sights, the sounds, the fields, the lines
are changing like crazy, especially in the wild card games.
So we'll get to that with Bernie, and we'll take
a look at the championship game. How is that changing?
How much money is coming in which way the money
is coming in on all that coming up in about
twenty minutes from now. Also, I found some incredible sound
(02:06:11):
and lead my producer who is putting it together. You
let me know when you have it, because I've I've
got to play this it it's gold. It's radio gold people.
So that would be coming up in like about sixty
seconds from now. You are definitely, I promise you you're
(02:06:33):
not going to want to miss this. Right. We do
have a lot to get to. I'm gonna reset Antonio Brown.
You hurt the say you're talking about the Central forty
game against l s U that L s U dominated
every which way possible, and I'm not gonna say that
isn't true. I mean the time of possession three to one,
what was fifteen pretty much to sixteen whatever. It was
(02:06:57):
absolutely dominating. Passing yards four hundred four to one. Rushing
yards were about the same one thirty for UCF. But
I understand it was a domination. But what you have
to understand is I can't let that get in the way.
I've got to just look at the final score. Now,
(02:07:17):
if we were breaking down Central Florida and stuff like that,
and said you know, whether they deserve it uh to
be in the top ten, that's one thing. But I'm
just wondering, do they deserve to play a game, not
if they would beat Alabama or beat Clemson. The fact
that they only lost by eight proves that they at
(02:07:38):
least deserve to be in the game, to be in
the hunt to be in the eight if we ever
went from four to eight to get on in at least,
I think so whenever you lose only by eight, they
could have won the game. They could have got the
ball back out to touch out of the two point conversion,
it would have been tied up. So I can't go
so much by the stats because I gotta give Central
(02:07:59):
Ford to credit it. You put up a good fight
even though you were dominated, but you only lost by eight.
So if we ever expanded to eight teams, I would
seriously consider putting you guys in. You proved that you can.
I don't want to say go toe to toe with
the big boys, but when you only lose by eight,
(02:08:19):
I gotta look at it as the bottom line. Now,
I told you about that Radio gold we had lead
to lap my producer um I thought this was absolutely hysterical.
Lee you. You found the tape, right, you found the audio.
It's now what is it? The is this? Um? Who
is the person that we're gonna be playing right now?
(02:08:40):
It's the executive director, Yes, Elizabeth Brady, the executive director
of the what Sugar Bowl? Is that? What it is?
And she was giving out the award after the game today? Uh,
to the winning team. Yeah, she's the executive director of
the Sugar Bowl obviously Texas. Here's her giving out the award.
(02:09:04):
Elizabeth Brady. Congratulations to View University champions today. Wait a minute,
Wait a minute, one more time. I want to congratulations
to the University of Ohey, congratulations to View University champions today.
(02:09:34):
She forgot who won. I don't get it. She forgot
who won. She was supposed to say congratulations to the
University of Texas. She didn't know. She forgot who won?
University of Texas or University of Georgia. I think he misremembers,
Oh my goodness, you forgot who. Wont you see talking
in front of a big crowd like that, and you
(02:09:55):
know that everybody's watching on TV. You get a little
bit of the yips, a little bit of the nerve.
You forgot who won the game. Lady, Oh my god,
she's the chief marketing officer. Play Oh my god, that's incredible.
That's radio goal. Play that again for me, Play it again,
Play it again. I was congratulations to the university champions today,
(02:10:28):
the university champions. She is the chief marketing officer of
All State Insurance. That is radio gold. I feel bad
for her. I feel bad because you're you forgot the team.
But you've got to know what you want to say
and keep that in your mind when you grabbed that mike,
(02:10:49):
because they can get a little scary talking in front
of all those people. If you're not used to that,
maybe I cook, I do a radio show. How many
people listen to the radio show? Quarter of a billion
of month or something like that? Is that? How many
we have lead to up? Is that? Is that like
our list? If I actually had to think about the
millions and billions of people listening, I would I would
(02:11:11):
have a nervous breakdown. You know, it's easier for me
to talk to a quarter of a billion people in
a month on this radio show that it is to
stand up in front of five people in talk And
she's speaking in front of a big crowd all right,
just give it to me one more time. I think
that's hysterically. I feel bad for but give it to
me one more time. Congratulations to view university today? Is
(02:11:39):
there a team called the University Champions? Do you guys,
I think that's funny as I do? Or at late
I think you're picking her, oh am, I picking out
her oux or what? I think you're going too far?
Arnie the light Scots were. It's not her job to
be a public speaker. You need to relax. Could you
imagine if I said congratulations, I played all night oh
(02:12:02):
to the University of Champions, Artie. I can understand why
it's funny, and I think we all agree as people
who speak, you know it can happen. It reminds me
immediately if you remember when Madison bum Gardner won the
World Series MVP and he got the Fox microphone and
(02:12:23):
he just froze up. This was like when the Giants
were in what four years ago? I think it combines
class winning leading, um, you know, technology and stuff with
this Chevy has you know technology and stuff. So um
it was that only it was like a minute long.
Oh jeez, well was he got the ramble for a minute?
(02:12:45):
He didn't forget that like the name he was holding
cards and that came out technology and stuff. Oh that's great.
I'm sure you're gonna be playing that a little bit.
Congratulations to the university today, like enthusiastically. I didn't see
(02:13:10):
the rest of the video was like anybody stating next
to our going, uh yeah, university champions. Can I get
the mic back? When do I get? I bet you
over under you here that a hundred times tomorrow, maybe
more than that because people are back to work. Absolutely,
(02:13:33):
I love that. I love that. Feel bad for but
I love that. All right? You want to covern on
that eight seven seven on Fox eight seven seven nine
six six three six nine if you want to send
in the tweet stinking genius one. All right. So that
was my take on Central Ford. And they lost by eight,
even though they were dominated by the statistics. You don't
(02:13:54):
play the game by stats, You play the game by
the scoreboard. They lost by eight. That means as they
deserve to play in an eight team playoff if we
ever expanded it from four to eight, that's the way
I would go. Also, NFL, are you ready for some
NFL wild card weekends? The lines of trade have changed dramatically.
(02:14:14):
I'll talk to Bernie Fratto coming up about five or
six minutes from now. We'll talk about some of those changes.
But this is one of the most intriguing wild Card
weekends I've ever seen. At three games are two points
or less in the spread, ones about a five and
a half. I really think there's a legitimate chance. And
(02:14:36):
you may think I'm absolutely nuts on this one, but
that's okay. There's a little bit legitimate chance that all
four visiting teams win this game. Colt, Seahawks, Chargers, and
even the Eagles going to Chicago. Never count out Nick
Foles in Philadelphia after what they've been through, and remember
the defending champs, so uh and they're only about a
(02:14:57):
five point under Dug. So I'm not counting anybody out
this year, really, And I know we've said this before,
more wide open than I've ever seen it ever. When
it comes to the NFL playoffs, there's only one team
I wouldn't feel confident about um winning the whole thing,
and that would be the Dallas Cowboys. I don't think
(02:15:18):
they've got it to go ahead. They don't have enough offense.
You know, I asked Plank all the time and my
partner on Saturday, Arin Torres. Would you rather have a
great offensive team coming into the playoffs like the Saints
or Kansas City or the Rams, Or would you rather
have a great defensive team coming into the playoffs? Um
like Seattle or like the Ravens, or like a team
(02:15:40):
like that. Right now, I think I'd rather go defense.
Defense wins super Bowls. Sometimes your offense is going to sputter.
And when your offense sputters and your defense can't do
anything about it to help you out or bail you out,
you're in big, big trouble. So that's why this weekend
so intriguing about what could possibly happen. That's why I
(02:16:04):
think maybe all four visiting teams could win, which would
be a first time I believe in the wild card.
Ken tweets on in that all State audio clip is hilarious.
Best clip of twenty nineteen. I like that. Uh, the
old State spokesman should be ashamed of her self, styin
Stephen a Hasta Gunnar Entry. That's a good one. I
(02:16:27):
like that one, man. I like that. So that's the
reason why you chose Geico. I love it. You want
to get in eight seven seven on Fox. Let me
go to let me take a quick call. Let me
go to Benjamin, who I think's in New Mexico. Ben,
you're on Fox Sports Radio. What's going on? Ben? Got
(02:16:49):
done watching Texas do what most spoke of as the improbable,
But the highlight of the game definitely was the universe
the of Champions. Where you're cracking up at that or
what I feel bad for her said that. I looked
at my five year old and was like, did she
(02:17:11):
really just say that she frowze up a little bit?
Did she? She? She throws up pretty good. But it
is a good win for my ball team, and I
enjoyed the whole entire bit of it. So you're telling
me Texas is back now, you're telling me right or
what hey? Sam Ellinger said it at the end, so
it's got to be true right now. Of course, congratulations
(02:17:33):
to the University of Champions. Okay, thank you. I appreciate
you getting out in All right, We're gonna come back.
We're gonna talk to Bernie Fatto. We'll see what the
line is doing. Which way the money is coming in.
He's from straight out of Vegas. That's coming up next.
Arnie sitting for Jason Smith and his best friend Mike
Harmon right here on Fox Sports Radio. Be sure to
(02:17:57):
catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike
Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific. For
a car landing on a roof, to a car landing
in the pool, we've covered it. Talk to farmers. We
know a thing or two because we've seen a thing
or two. We are farmers under written my farmers truck
fire insurance, exchanges and affiliates products unavailable in every state.
(02:18:22):
All right, good evening everyone, aren't he sitting in for
Jason Smith and his best friend Mike Carmen. Alright, we're
gonna call an audible here before we get the Bernie Fratto.
Jordan Staff from the University of Texas. He's the wide receiver,
the winning wide receiver. A little Jordan Humphrey, How you doing,
my friend? Are you awesome? Congratulations? You guys were not
supposed to do this. You weren't supposed to be to
(02:18:44):
your University of Georgia. Hey, everything you know coming in
to the game, obviously you were the big underdogs. What
was coach telling you coming into this one? Because everybody
was talking about how Georgia should have been in the
four team playoff. Uh, it was just all about um,
worry about us, UM prove us right. Um, we believe
(02:19:07):
in ourselves. So we just got to work and we
had to start fast and went out there. We went
out there and have a business. So yeah, I love
Sam Elwen girl. This guy is just garty. He doesn't
put up the best numbers out there, but he like
wills you guys the victory. I love what he does.
M hm yeah. Um, Sam as a ball, he's a dog.
(02:19:30):
M He's gonna lead us. He's gonna running people over,
take some hits. Uh, throw the ball. He's gonna do
everything for us, just put us in the best situation.
So he's a great player, even great person. You know.
I know you're a great wide receiver. But give a
little props to the defense. You held Georgia the seven
points until they scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
You don't have defense, but you play in the big twelve, right,
(02:19:53):
How did you do that? Uh? Defense just cut it
loose today. Um they were out there and ran in
hit it, and I thought coach asked for him, and
that's what they did. Granted, hit covered and I can't
ask too much more, much more for him from holding
the team to fourteen points to one point? Uh, can
I can as much from that? Uh gotta go out
(02:20:14):
there and execute. All right, Little Jordan Humphrey joining us
here from the University of Texas. Now, you're finished up
with your junior year. So are you returning for your
senior year? I take it. Oh, we don't know yet.
I don't know. I'm I'm gonna sit down with my
mom and my dad discussed that. All right, well, look,
I want to wish you the best luck, congratulations on
your big victory, and uh, well, waiting to see what
(02:20:37):
you do. So thank you very much for stopping them by.
All right, thank you. Take care of little Jordan Humphrey.
Everybody from the University of Texas or University Champions, how
however you want to call him. Yeah, I thought i'd
sneak at it. I thought for sure he was coming back.
So that's my bad. I didn't me put the young
man on the spot. But all right, now let's go
(02:21:02):
to our buddy straight out of vegans. It's our buddy,
Bertie Fratto. Bertie. Let's start with the college game. Alabama
Clemson Uh, what's the latest line right now? It opened
at what fourteen? So what's it right now? It opened seven?
It opened seven at the completion of the semifinal games.
(02:21:24):
You actually could have got it at nine back on
December two. But it's currently six, Arnie, and the total
is fifty nine and a half right now. Seventy of
the money is coming in on Obama. The tickets is
coming in Obama. But I'm gonna confess I've grabbed the points.
I love Clemson here. Dabbo is eighteen and six straight up,
fifteen and nine against the spread against those that are undefeated,
(02:21:47):
and Arnie man defense statistically it's not it's not what
it's been in recent years. And their last two games
to give up four and seventy four and four and
fifty yards respectively. Clemson's got the better d the favorite
in the College Football Final in this current format in
the last four years, he's all in four. One last thing, Arnie.
(02:22:08):
Everybody remembers last year Obama crushed Clemson to six. They
had a hell of an internal revenge factor there because
the year before and Clemson beat them. Simon was convinced
to a man that Clemson had scored that touchdown on
an illegal pick play. They were pissed this year. It's
a role reversal. I look for this game to go
down to the wire. Clemson may were not right, but
(02:22:30):
I think it's a field goal either with what which
way is the line going to go? It's not gonna
get back up to seven or seven and a half,
So I get figure, So we were gonna go down
from here? Bernie? Or what I think if it goes anywhere? Ernie,
you wait till uh. We wait till about forty eight
to twenty four hours before kickoff, and it's gonna go
back the year the way it could go six and
a half. I dot it will touch seven again. But
(02:22:51):
if it does, grab it, six is the lowest it
will go. A lot of money being bet on this
game or or out. Oh yeah, the hands they handled.
The hand was substantial, but the vast majority of the
hand it will come in twenty four hours before the game. Okay,
let's get over to the wild card game. UM, A
lot of money must be coming in already because the
lines have changed dramatically. They all three of the game
(02:23:14):
started a two and a half. Let's start with the Texans.
UH went from two or two and a half down
the one and a half at some of the places
out there. What's going on in that game, Bernie correct?
The line started to open Texans minus three actually didn't
stay there very long. It's currently one and a half
total four and seven and a half. Seventy of the
money is coming out on the Colts. I think the
Colts win this game out right, aren't. Let me give
(02:23:35):
you a couple of facts, Christopher. Everybody forgets back in
September when the Colts were scuffling, opening up one at five,
they led the Texans twenty four to six, and blue
a fourth quarter lead lost in overtime. This Colts team
is the real deal. They're number one in the league
and third convergence at to get the number one defense
and points allowed. Since Week seven, they've kept Andrew Luck
(02:23:59):
up right, He's only the sack eighteen times or a year. Meanwhile,
DeShawn Watson has been hit more than Rocky Bell ball.
They're coming after him. I love indiating this game. They're
not even one in their last ten. They're only allowing
sixteen points per game in those ten wins, beating their
opponents by amate of eleven. So who do you trust
(02:24:19):
Frank Right and Andrew Ruck or Bill O'Brien and DeShawn Watson.
I love the coast to went not right, Arnie, Let's
go to Seattle and Dallas. You know, I think Seattle's
the play here. I'm not sold on Dallas. I don't
know if they have a big enough offensive unit to
get this thing done. Defensive either a good team. I
think it could be a field goal game, but I
(02:24:40):
think defense wins out and Seattle's got the better defense.
Which way is the why going on this? And what
from two and a half you get one and a
half minus one and half with the Cowboys right now, right,
you can actually even get minus one now Aarnie, the
money is pretty even coming in on the Seahawks. Again,
It's one of those situational games. Who do you trust?
(02:25:01):
The Cowboys are seven and one in bold this season
because Sambos won four their last six down the road.
Lot to like about Seattle. They scuffle a little down
to stretch, but they were pretty well in the number
four slot. This again is a rematch earlier in the
year Seattle on thirteen, Week three at home, but Dallas
(02:25:22):
the sixth ran defense. Who do you trust, I trust
West Russell Wilson. At least you don't have to worry
about the Tony Romo brain fart factory. He's not on
the team anymore. But I gotta tell you, Russell Wilson
eight and four in his career in the playoffs. I
do like to see Hawks here. Bernie Fratto from straight
out of Vegas joining us here on the guy called
(02:25:43):
Fox Sports. Somebody hotline charges Baltimore. Baltimore opened up as
a two point favorite. That line does not Budge. Does
that mean money is not coming in or there's fifty
fifty money coming in? I thought Buddy would be coming
in more on the charges. What's going on there? Bernie? Well,
you are right, Arnie of them Annie is coming in
on the Chargers. The Ravens are currently laying two and
(02:26:04):
a half again, another rematch from weeks sixteen when Baltimore
traveled west and beat the Chargers out in l A
Gotta Live Jim Harbaugh jen and five playoff record, including
two and no at home. Give it up to Lamar
Jackson six and one started not only saved Hardball's job,
but got to thember the playoffs. Baltimore's defense will most
(02:26:26):
likely prevail here. They're running the ball and their defense
only has to be on the field twenty three minutes
per game. This is the one road game that I'm
afraid of. I just can't trust the Chargers are did
the better team, Yes, but I got off feeling the
X factor resigned with the home team. I may or
may not be involved, but if I am, it will
(02:26:48):
only be on the home side here. Ernie, Bernie, this
is the most intriguing line here where the Bears were
a six point favorite. Uh, look, the Eagles obviously gotta
go with falls. You could have gotten a lot more
value of you would have taken them before last week's game,
before they even you know, made the playoffs. It's down
the five and a half. I can't believe money is
actually coming in on Philadelphia after the performance that the Bears,
(02:27:10):
given that defense they have. Why is money coming in
on Philadelphia? If it is, well, I give you that's
a very good question. And you can still find sixes
in town, aren't You just have to shop it? But
you're right fairly even, but money is starting to come
in more on Philadelphia. These two teams meant about a
year ago Week twelve and two thousand, seventeen actually knows
(02:27:30):
Week sixteen, Philly one thirty one to three. Mitture Biski
is worse loss ever. Uh. Jim Schwartz, the defensive coordinators
for Philadelphia, really drove him nuts. I think you'll see
a lot of those concepts now. Nick Foles, he's on
fire nine and two as a starter. And look, Philly
has been great as a dog, Nick Foles four and
(02:27:51):
one straight up and against his friend as a dog.
What has happened in the last couple of weeks is
that Philly smashed mouth defense has re emerged. Now, if
the Bears win this game, they're going to have to
do with defense. There's got the number one defense. There's
no debating that they're gonna have to ride that defense
mixed Rabinski's uncharted territory here. I would still grab the points, Ernie.
(02:28:14):
I grabbed the six points. I think this game's a
mail fighter, Bertie. Are you betting uh futures like who's
going to win the Super Bowl? You can get some
really good odds there. You know, it's a great you know,
you and Aaron we talked about that Saturday night that
I'd mentioned a week ago. You could have got Indian one.
They're now down town to one to go, and if
(02:28:34):
you don't want to bet the future, they've got to
play four games. And if you play a mechanical parlay,
meaning just bet Indie on the money line and they
want all four, you'll still love getting them about forty
five to one. And depending Arnie, if for us attorney,
is there a team that's a dark horse out there
that you would feel comfortable through in a couple of checkles,
I'm saying, what the hell I think be the name
(02:28:55):
of that team? The name of that even if I
was going with like a five or six seed, Well,
I think if I'm gonna go with a complete long shot,
I think the charges would have been that team. They're
sixteen to one right now. Wow, So so that's pretty
good money, so you can they're they're a dog, a
short dog Sunday. So if you grab them at sixteen
to one, you've got great hedge opportunities. You can literally
(02:29:17):
lock in profit week one. But if they continue to
win in advance and you're right. This reminds me a
bit of that ninety five team. It was Dan Humphreys.
It went into Pittsburgh and shock the world they've got
the athletes, they've got this teame, the personal group. Ths
do they have the intangibles? We're gonna find out. There's
one aspect of this game. My buddy Joe Gibs here
(02:29:37):
in La pointed out there in Las Vegas, you're putting
up to Newday two Chargers. This is the second time
they will have seen Lamar Jackson in two weeks. They're
gonna know his tendencies and we'll see how Lamar Jackson
fairs against the defense who's already got him on film
and played against him. He's Bernie Fratto, straight out of Vegas.
You can hear him. Saturday is a Saturday night, Saturday mornings.
(02:29:59):
I don't even know the time anymore. Saturday night at
eleven team here on the West Coast, back there in
God's Country in Burlington, it's two am. Thank you, Bernie,
always loved Liz. Later on you too. Happy New Year,
Bernie Fratto, straight out of Vegas. Let's see what's trending
with our buddy to saga, what's going on to say?
(02:30:19):
You know, you brought up Chargers playoff history earlier after
they made their only Super Bowl mid nineties, the Chargers
went over a decade without a playoff win. However, the
past decade there four and four in playoff games. It's
just they haven't been to the playoffs in the last
five years. Of course, all five was Philip Rivers in
his long career as their quarterback. You know, the Chargers
(02:30:40):
haven't lost a game outside of l A this year.
The one road loss was against the Rams in l A.
College football Tonight, Texas led seventeen nothing at the Sugar
Bowl against Georgia. In the second quarter, Longhorns take a
one quarterback Sam Ellinger, with three touchdown runs and a
two point pass. Georgia as a team thirty carries just
(02:31:01):
seventy two yards rushing one fumble. Number six Ohio State
held on to win the Rose Bowl over Washington twenty three.
L s U took the Fiesta Bowl against previously undefeated
Central Florida forty to thirty two. Kentucky beat Penn State
at the Citrus Bowl twenty seven twenty four. Penn State
in the first half missed a couple of field goals
and got stopped on a fourth down, wound up losing
(02:31:23):
by three. Iowa beat Mississippi State twenty seven twenty two.
In the Outback Bowl. Although Ohiowa finished with only a
hundred ninety nine yards of offense rushing as a team,
the Hawkeyes twenty carries minus fifteen yards, including the sex
Iowa on third down conversions one for eleven. They had
thirteen drives just eleven first downs today and won the game.
(02:31:44):
Oklahoma gave coach Lincoln Riley a contract extension in the
NBA just five games. The late contest, Philadelphia, which was
up eighteen at the half, held on to beat the
Clippers one nineteen, one thirteen Joe l NBA twenty eight points,
nineteen rebounds Aren't. Philly needed an inbounds passed late in
the game game Ben Simmons threw it off the back
of the defender, stepped in, got it and got to
(02:32:05):
a lay up, and Philly clinched the game. Portland won
in overtime at Sacramento one one oh eight. Yusef Nurkics
of the Portland Trailblazers had this game tonight twenty four points,
twenty three rebounds and seven assists and five steals and
five blocks. At Denver, Nicola Jokich a triple double with
fifteen assists for the Big man as they beat New
(02:32:27):
York one fifteen one. Oh White Knicks have lost eight straight.
The Nuggets had been tied with Idle Golden State for
first in the Western Conference, so Denver's number one in
the West. Now at Milwaukee, another win for the Bucks
there twenty six and ten, Milwaukee shot sixty from the
floor and beat up Detroit. And at Toronto, Kawhi Leonard
forty five points in a win over Utah one two
(02:32:48):
to one. Sixteen, the NHL outdoor game at Notre Dame
Stadium went to Boston four two over Chicago. At the
Yankees agreed to a deal with infielder Troy to Lewitsky
are reportedly appending it physical. Will be back to Arnie
in ten seconds. But first a word from farmers. From
a landing on a car to a load of concrete
falling on one, we've covered it, talked to farmers. We
(02:33:08):
know a thing or two because we've seen a thing
or two. We are farmers under written, my farmers truck
fire insurance, exchanges and affiliates, products unavailable in every state.
And Arnie a me or half hour left of you.
And then Jason Smith and Mike Harmon back tomorrow, and
I want to tell you a quick story, you know you.
I was looking at the score of the Clipper game.
(02:33:30):
It reminds me of story. My son had a friend
over yesterday and he goes to college in Boston, and
he was told me the story after that after one
of the games between Philadelphia and Boston, you know in
the playoffs, that him and another buddy, we're just throwing
the football out in front of their house and Simmons
and Marquel Folts pulled up in a in a car
(02:33:52):
and started tossing the football with them being at Syria.
Now wait a minute, I've seen Marquel Folts at the
free throw line. You're saying he was trying to throw
a football. Yeah, I'm like that. There was nothing to
me with his arm if he was throwing the football,
he said. Simmons was a much nicer guy than Fulton
that he said, can we take a picture, and Full
said no, I'm not taking a picture with anybody. Really. Yeah,
(02:34:13):
I guess he doesn't want to be seen in the NBA.
So there you go. Appreciated the sayer and joy you too.
Uh you know what's funny? Uh Plank, who's filling in
for Ben mallor coming up next. He totally geeked out,
Uh when he found out that I was having Little
Jordan Humphrey on the show, because he's texting me like crazy.
(02:34:34):
Oh oh, dude, dude, dude, you have to ask him
about coming back. He's like a middle late round grade,
but he may stay in Texas. I didn't see the tweet,
but I did ask the question. I felt bad for
asking the question. But but Plike, so, no, no, you
gotta ask the question. And then he goes, is he
all already? Asked him about being called soft by the
by Oklahoma hissed him off, and he dominated, I didn't
(02:34:57):
know Oklahoma had called himself. He planke would know that,
flike so tune did. I didn't know my bad, my bad,
But I didn't know that that Oklahoma was calling himseft
and stuff like that. He didn't dominate. He had seven
catches sixty seven yards. Should ask him about throwing the past.
But um, yeah, I appreciate little Jordan Humphrey stopping on by.
If you want to get in eight seven seven, uh
(02:35:19):
eight seven seven nine nine six six six nine, maybe
quickly go to Tom in Orlando. Uh, Tom, you're on
fix Sports Radio. What's going on, Tom? How are you doing?
Good time? I want to talk a little bit about UCS.
For this team to go oh and twelve and then
get Scott Fross and go six and seven and then
turn around and go twenty five, and oh, we deserve
(02:35:41):
to be in the in the Power eight. And we
we deserved shot at the four um for for for
l s U to beat us down and control the
ball for forty five minutes and we only have it
for sixteen, and for us only to lose by eight.
Hell yeah, we deserve So wait, wait, wait, wait, wait,
maybe we're tend that you're show Tom, and the calls
(02:36:01):
are gonna go, hey, Tom, really love the show. But
L s U had like ten million guys out, they
had nobody on their team. That's all right, that's that
that's their choice, that's their choice. Yeah, but we had
we had We can go that route to we we
(02:36:21):
have Milton now. But I'll tell you what if we
had if we had Milton with that forty five seconds
plus that damn game? All right, Well, how about if
they go, hey, Tom really love the show, but uh,
you guys got dominated forty four minutes of sixty minutes.
You aren't even really close. They destroyed you in the
in the statistics department. Lost by eight, was that the
(02:36:46):
bottom line, just to the final score. Still lost by eight,
lost by a touchdown. We didn't get killed in the
points category, and that's what counts. Yep, you know what
I said that before I appreciate the call, Tom, I
said that I can't go by the statistics. I can't say, oh,
you know, forty five minutes to fifteen minutes, uh five
hundred yards or six hundred yards to two hundred yards.
(02:37:07):
That's that's not the game. That's not what's being played.
That's not how you get a team into the final four.
If we ever go to eight, I gotta go by
the final score. Final score two. They were up fourteen
to three, and as people are telling me on Twitter,
they could have gone to twenty one. The three could
have been twenty one the three very easily, and they
botched out up. So look, I'm not saying they could
(02:37:28):
have won. They here Jim said, U c f at
fourteen three, if not for the stupid penalty, could have
been twenty one. Three momentum change with one mistake by
a freshman linebacker. You never know, could have been a
different story there. Bottom line is I can't throwing the
penalties there. I can't go by uh you know, statistics.
(02:37:50):
I have to go by final score. So final score
was forty two, you lost by eight. You showed that
you could, you know, at least on the scoreboard play
with the big boys. I understand that, you know, maybe
you deserve it. Not look they didn't deserve a chance
if there was only four teams like there is now,
but they certainly would maybe deserve a chance of it
(02:38:10):
got to eight where you have the division winners or
conference winners, and you took about three with at large bits,
then maybe that makes it fair enough to get Central
Florida also, last chance to get on in and tell
me what you think about the wild card weekends? Are
there going to be in the upsets? And if the
upsets happened, where is it going to happen. I actually
(02:38:33):
think all four the visiting teams could win. That wouldn't
be shocked. I mean a lot of people are jumping
on the Colts beat in the Texans, and I really
think Seattle's the play over the Cowboys. Matter of fact,
I'll tell you what I'm gonna do. We're gonna come back.
I'm gonna give you the final score of all four
wild Card games, the exact score. So that's coming up next.
(02:38:54):
Arnie sitting in for Jason Smith and Mike Harmon right
here on Fox Sports are Radio. Be sure to catch
live editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon
weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific on Fox
Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio Lap. From a
heart of a loon landing on a car to a
load of concrete falling on one, we've covered it. Talk
(02:39:16):
to farmers, we know a thing or two because we've
seen a thing or two. We are farmers under written
my farmer's truck, fire insurance exchanges and affiliates products unavailable
in every state. All Right, gotta thank the crew Oux
tie shirt doing whatever he does. I guess, but he
did a good job at it. Lead the lot producing
the show today, Steve to say, you're on the updates.
(02:39:38):
Remember Chris Planks sitting in for Ben Mallor. They'll be
taking care of the Mallor militia one more night before
Big Ben gets back. Ernie says, hey, sticking genius, thanks
for filling in for the guys Harmon and Jason Smith
this week. We know we get your chops busted a lot,
but it's for entertainment purposes only. It's been a fun week.
Looking forward to seeing you guys coming back on the weekend.
(02:40:01):
See who I am. Appreciate that. Paul says, if Central
Florida were in the SEC, they're looking to be uh
uh lucky to be Arkansas or old Mrs class Well,
maybe you're right, maybe you're right, but we won't know that. Yeah,
when you have to play game in and game out
in the SEC and get beat up like that instead
(02:40:24):
of just one game, very possible. What the SEC is
the premier conference, no doubt about that. Give me a
little music, put me in the mood. Let me give
you some predictions for the championship game in the four
wild card games. Let me start with the college football game.
You know him on Alabama and I'm all over Alabama,
but that doesn't mean I don't think the game is
(02:40:45):
gonna be close. I think Alabama can get out to
a ten the fourteen point lead, but Cleps is not
just going to roll over. I think Clips could put
some points on the board, but it's obviously not gonna
be above thirty like they did with not Tre Dame.
I think Alabama's offense, though, we'll be able to move
(02:41:05):
the ball against Clemson. I think Alabama can score like
thirty four points. Defensively, Alabama is gonna win the game
with their defense because they're gonna stop Clemson from scoring
a lot. Final score twa another great game. It's not
gonna be like he's twenty five or twenty seven or
(02:41:26):
anything like that, but he has another great game. Alabama
wins it thirty four twenty three over Clemson. So that
means lay the points with UH with Alabama, and the
over under of the game is sixty. I got it
(02:41:49):
in fifty seven, so take the under in that one. Now,
let's get to the NFL Wild Card action Indianapolis that
Euston used to open up as a two point favorite.
At you with three, now down the one and a half.
Everybody jumping on and Andrew lock and what they've done
with the Colts scoring nine and one of their last ten.
(02:42:10):
I'm not so sure about that. Texans have a better
defense than people are giving him credit for. They started
owing three and they turned it around. Watson's the key here,
if he stands up straight, doesn't get sacked, a loup
makes plays with his leg. I think the game is
gonna be tied at the end, and I'm gonna go
(02:42:31):
with a late field go by the Texans. Texans win
it twenties six, twenty three over the Colts. Let's get
over to Seattle and Dallas. I thought Seattle was left
for dead at the beginning of the season, that there
was no way they were going to make the playoffs.
(02:42:51):
Cowboys rallied. I think they were three and five, but
once they got a Marii Cooper, things changed for them
and for the better. I don't have a lot of
confidence in Dallas offense. The defense is going to have
to carry them, which is why I think this is
going to be another close game. This one is gonna
(02:43:11):
be tied at twenty four, but this time the visiting team,
the Seahawks, will have the ball as they line up
for forty forty five yard field goal. It is up
and it is good. Seattle twenty seven, Dallas twenty four.
The Cowboys once again with no playoff victory. Seattle advances.
(02:43:40):
The charges are at Baltimore. Much respect to that Baltimore defense,
but got a lot of questions to see for Mark
Jackson is gonna be able to do it in his
first playoff appearance. The Charges, as the Sager told you,
four and four in their last eight playoff games. But
I think they're ready to turn the corner to show
their dominance. I think Rivers is ready to go ahead
(02:44:03):
and show that he's ready to put points on the board.
It's gonna be tough at Baltimore. I got the Charges
winning this because their defense comes up with a late interception.
Chargers thirty, Baltimore four. And one other game, we know
(02:44:23):
Nick Foles is gonna be playing for Philadelphia Chicago perhaps
with the best defense out of all the teams in
the Wild Card. Much respect for what Philadelphia has been
able to do and the way they got into the playoffs.
At first I thought that it's gonna be real tough
for them to score. But with falls and not having
(02:44:43):
the broken ribs, I've got a little bit more confidence
in them, but not enough confidence to win the game.
Final score Chicago thirty one, Eagles twenties seven. So there
you have my picks and do with them as you please,
but please, please please remember now they are strictly for
(02:45:06):
entertainment purposes only, So there you go. Greg em says,
take Clemson in the over. Nope, not gonna happen, all right,
Thanks to Jason Smith and Mike Carmen for letting me
fill in. I hope Aaron Torres gets better thanks to
the guys back in Los Angeles. Remember Chris Plank coming
up next, sitting in for Ben Maller, And you know
(02:45:27):
he's going to geek up on the Alabama Clemson game,
talk about all the bowl games, and he loves the NFL,
so we'll get into the wild card games. Also, that's
coming up next. See you guys next weekend right here
