Speaker 1 (00:29):
You know, I don't always ask for new opens for
the show. I don't know, I know how about a
new I don't always ask that, so it becomes nothing.
I don't always ask for that.
Speaker 3 (00:40):
Gotta have keep it fresh, keep it in line with
the headlines of today.
Speaker 1 (00:45):
How you feeling, buddy, I'll tell you. I'll tell you.
I'll tell you. How do I feel? I feel? I
have a I have a lot of emotions in me
right now. I have relief, I have anxiety, I have
everything I have. I have by the fact that they
all suck. Oh yeah, no, no, no, because because now it's like,
(01:06):
oh this great, Hey, you woke up from this dream
and now here's reality. Oh that that's great, all that together.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
But I know the pride right I saw you post
the little photo right when the door had to cut
his interviews.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
Sure, and they did the group picture. I mean that
was all good.
Speaker 4 (01:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
Then they all had orange slices and some high sea
and now here we are back to reality.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
A live from the tirec dot Com studios Direct dot Com.
Up you get there an unmatched selection, fast, free shipping,
free road hazard protection, over ten thousand recommended installers. Tirect
dot Com is the way tire buying should be. Now,
I'll tell you why. I'm in a lot of different
emotions right now. But first, big update from the NFL
Right number two Monday Night Games Tonight, Arizona leads the
(01:50):
Chargers seven to three late in the second quarter. Everybody's favorite.
I'll pick up this guy for this week only in
fantasy because I got to play him. Greg Dortch with
a touchdown reception for the card. Yeah. Meanwhile, after a
ten to nothing lead, looked like Tampa Bay was going
to boat race the Ravens. Not so fast. Ravens have
(02:10):
come back to take a twenty to ten lead over
the Bucks. Justin Tucker looks like he's getting back to
being the Justin Tucker volt just booted one good from
fifty two for a twenty to ten lead nearly midway
through the third quarter. Lamar Jackson now two touchdowns on
the night, and he's got a perfect passer rating so far,
a perfect passer rating in more of his NFC dominance. Boy,
(02:33):
I'll tell you, if I was an NFC team, I
would trade He's twenty two to one against the NFC
in his career. I would trade for. I would. I
would assigned Lamar Jackson if I was an NFC team
a couple of years ago, just for that. I was like, Oh,
I look that kid goal. We'll sign him just that
you could great against the NFC. Great, We'll get him
the hell of a run. I would say this.
Speaker 3 (02:48):
The bucketeers have gone head hunting on him a couple
of times, coming up with some chin music as he's
scrambled around, and obviously a lot of folks we had
Mary waving the flashlight effect on her camera earlier or
on her phone earlier. That's what they're doing, saying where's
Derrick Henry, especially around the goal line, Where's Derrick Henry?
Speaker 1 (03:12):
Four carries? Why to keep hitting refreshed? It looks like
fred Zone. Why what do we do. Isn't that from
the first quarter? Why have they not? Why they're not?
Can't blame the refresh anymore. Remember used to be able
to do that. He's been able to blame the refresh.
You didn't hit refresh on a computer. Now it's like, no, no, no, no,
those are the real stats. But what if I know? No, no,
that doesn't automatically. Automatically everybody does it. That's how it goes.
Speaker 3 (03:36):
I hope you hit a bad am I on a
bad server. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Then I go back. That
happens once in a while on my phone. I'll go
to a I'll turn it on in the morning and
I'll go to a website and and I'll look at
it and it will I'll be like, what the hell
is this that? This is the headline from Saturday?
Speaker 1 (03:53):
What is going on? What are you doing? I gotta
hit refresh? Oh And now it's like, why would it
default to something from Saturday? Cash there? Maybe it was
bad news that it felt you needed to see Again.
Bucks just missed a field goal could have cut it
to twenty to thirteen, so it stays a twenty to
ten lead. Meanwhile, the Raves out taking over near midfield
they could really put the bucks behind it with a
score here. So we'll keep you updated on both these
(04:15):
games throughout the night to Monday night. Game tonight is fun.
But how can I tell you the story of my
emotions and the Mets and the Jets, two of the
biggest stories the last twenty four hours. I can tell
you and and I can do it by comparing the
two teams. When the Mets lost yesterday, it was a tough.
You know, being out there for Game six was so
much fun, even jeapam, even even the fact that people
(04:38):
throwing gum at me and my daughter just because for
whatever reason not happy about it. But whatever, because I'm
not someone's going to go antagonize people. I'm just gonna
cheer for my team. But you know it happens sometimes
some is antagonizing. Yeah, yeah, but I'll lead. Yeah, I'm
sure you were insufferable for about fifteen minutes. Oh oh,
that was exciting. That was that was exciting. But the
guys around you probably there were more. The thing is,
(05:01):
I sat next to a Mets fan the game two
when I went, because I got both ends of the
Sean and I experience. You know, I got Game two
then I had Game six, I sat next to a
Mets fan. But I would say yesterday at Chavez Ravine
Game two, it was probably a quarter Mets fans, Like
that's how many Mets fans or I would say twenty
twenty five percent.
Speaker 3 (05:20):
Why the media folks who suddenly decided to tell you
they were Mets fans.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
Yesterday maybe about five percent Mets fans. So yeah, but
much much more, much different yesterday. Uh So, I was
sitting next to a Mets fan and he did the
the Irish could buy in the eighth inning, like, hey,
we were on the top of the eighth inning. We're
chasing three. I said, yeah, we get one this inning. Yeah, okay, great.
I turned around and get on my phone for a second.
I look up and I go, where'd that guy? Where'd
(05:43):
that guy going? And always left? What do you mean
he left? dB traffic. I was talking to him the
whole game. He goes, Now, he just left, he just left.
We were talking the okay whatever. Well I told you
about that survey about a month ago. They say you
could add an extra year to your life if you
practiced the Irish. When you're done with your job for
the day you leave, you don't say goodbye to everybody.
I'm done. What party? You leave, you go to church,
(06:06):
you just leave. You've paid a lot of money for
those tickets. You just gonna leave. There's two more innings left, Okay,
suffer through the end of it. Man. No, And we
stayed because I wanted to. I said, Zoe went, wait,
do you see how you see? She was amazing the
electricity in the ballpark, different from any game she'd ever
been through. When I said, wait, do you see what
happens when they win? You know, at ten to four,
I'm like, Okay, that's gonna be it, and and you know,
the place goes crazy and the lights and the fans
(06:28):
and everybody jumping around on the field and you know.
And I walked away and I said, you know what,
we lost, right, we lost? But I felt great because
what did I tell you a couple of weeks ago?
And I don't I'm I'm not going to play though
we were supposed to be here. Cart No. I feel
great that that the Mets are now at the beginning
of what should be a run of some kind of
dominance for the next few years, because they have the
(06:49):
three biggest things right, ownership, general, manager, President of Baseball
Operations David Searns, and manager. They're the three biggest things
you need to create sustained success. Stars don't create sustained
success as much as they used to, but when you
have it, when you have a system in place. Because
for years it was the Mets.
Speaker 2 (07:05):
Owners were horrible.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
They were hiring a new manager every other year. There
was a new manager every other year. The Mets were
a mess. They were just trying to cut and paste
things all the way through. But Steve Cohen learned a
lot very early, hired waited for the right guy to
run the team, and then hired the right manager. And
so I feel great going I said, we have a
sustained sentiment. So I told you two weeks ago. That's
why I feel great. We figured out the top of
(07:27):
the organization, right, So that's great. Now. Compare that to
the Bleep and Jets, okay, who are come always always
trying how do we duct tape this thing together just
so and so it won't just fall apart? The jet,
you know, the Jets are like the Jets are like
the kid that works on his project, his science project
the night before school. But then you have to actually
get it to school and you have to worry, you
(07:50):
have to worry about it getting jostly in the back
of the car, the kid carrying it in, and it's
so precious and so delicate, and you put you try
to put tape on it, stop it, but it doesn't
matter because of all k no erupts or the blood
falls out of the skeleton, whatever it is, and it's
just a mess. It's held together with gum. And that's
what the gum thrown at you. And you want to
know why, and you want to know. And I was
(08:10):
mad because the gum actually went into my nachos, but
I was already I was almost done with them anyway.
But I'm still mad about that. But anyway, good because
that's what. Why are the Jets failed? Why are they
the biggest failure so far this year? Why are they
in a four game losing straight? Look at how they've
tried to do things right? Oh, we have a great defense,
all right, We're gonna gonna start putting people in. We're
gonna go get Aaron Rodgers. We're gonna go throw this guy,
(08:32):
and we're gonna put this in here. We're gonna put
this system in. We're Okay, it's not working. Okay, great,
so let's pull out apart. We're gonna fire the head coach.
You're gonna prote the defensive coordinator. We're gonna go sign
a wide receiver. All they're doing is trying to to
keep the game going. Let's just let's just put duct
tape on stuff and see if it works. The Jets
have no plan, and that's why they are where there are.
They have no plan. They have no identity. If you
(08:53):
said to me, what's the Jets identity, I would say,
it's just a bunch of guys together. It's a bunch
of talented guys that really they're trying to win games.
There's no we are a passing team for we are this,
we are there. I can't say that. I can't. They
can't even stop the run, right, So they can't even that.
And it always was a big thing that they couldn't
stop the run before, but now they really can't stop it.
And now when Rogers makes a couple of mistakes, it
(09:14):
gets compounded. The Jets just they have no They have
no forward thrust, and you want to go from the top.
They have a bad owner in Woody Johnson, who really
doesn't know. He's never been able to push the right buttons.
He's always been someone who whatever the decision is, and
I get that he wants to be aggressive, he wants
to win. He just always makes a decision that backfires.
You have a general manager who's brought some talent in,
(09:36):
but is there any cohesion? Is there any? Is there any?
Is there any? Hey? This is ours this is our
program that we have going on here. No, And you
brought in the head coach who was supposed to be
that guy, but now you fired him, just like you
fired all the other head coaches. The Jets have no
c the top three ownership, general manager, and head coach.
Now they're trying to make it work. Maybe Jeff Elbrick
is a good head coach. I don't know. But you
(09:57):
see now, you see I see the difference between my
two teams. Where the Mets he they made it to
the NLCS. It was it was a season that surprised
a lot of people. And there they are and that
was great and they are set up for success in
the future, right, all one hundred and sixty million dollars
coming off their books at the end of this year.
They're gonna be able to go out and get free agent.
It's gonna be it's gonna be even better team next year.
Where the Jets are just, hey, if we take this
(10:17):
piece from here and put it here, will this work?
Can we take this piece out of it? It's like
playing Chenga. I put this piece here and put it here,
it can build a bill and eventually it's gonna fall.
That's the Jet. That's the difference between these two teams.
So I feel good about the Mets even though they lost,
because they lost to the better team. And I have
no problem with that. But I watch Jets and I
go They are just every week trying to pick it
up on the fly. And that's the way this organization
has been now going on forty some odd years. So
(10:39):
I can't say it's new. But you want to know why,
I'll tell you why, because the Jets have no plan. Noh.
Speaker 3 (10:43):
But it goes back to what we've said about organizations.
Pick your sport right. There's only a handful that you
say are run properly with the efficiency and the lie
chain of command to where it makes sense, whether it's
baseball minor leagues going up to where you build a
program and roll through. Say what you will about the Dodgers,
(11:05):
people laugh about bullpen games whatever. They're in the World
Series and they're competitive every year. Why because they have
a structure. Now do they need to worry about their
medical training staff and figure out what the hell's going
on there? Yes, yes they do. But you have consistency
and opportunity.
Speaker 1 (11:22):
With the Jets.
Speaker 3 (11:23):
They handed over the reins and they've done this multiple
times where it's like, all right, let's do this hopscotch approach.
And last year before the season, what do they do
Aaron Rodgers to come to the Jets and we'll give
you anything you want.
Speaker 1 (11:36):
And what did he do? Totally submarined everything Joe Douglas
was trying to do because now he had to acquiesce
because Wood he gave him all the power. I'm just pig.
I'm just picturing an ego Montoya from The Princess Bride.
Offer me power, Offer me everything I want. Yes, all
I have in Mark, Give me everything I want. I
(11:57):
want my father back, you son of a bike. Oh
and oh okay, give me everything i want. Here, I'll
give you everything I want. Look at where we're at,
But that's where you're at.
Speaker 3 (12:06):
You gave him everything, and in the interim, now you're
trying to duct tape bandage.
Speaker 1 (12:11):
Your way through and cobble together. We've we just said it.
Going in.
Speaker 3 (12:14):
As much as they were as a unit ranked highly,
you could run on the Jets defense. What did Pittsburgh
do a bunch last night? Ran the football? And then
I think we got into the hyperbole a little bit.
We'll get deeper into the Russell Wilson phenomenon, but stretch
the field a little bit. Garrett Wilson with one of
the most unfortunate plays you'll ever see. I was surprised
(12:35):
he wasn't put on a bus do well.
Speaker 1 (12:37):
The thing is, you see what people don't see about
that play. As you see the play that looks but
the ball gets tipped and he's got his hands where
the ball is gonna be, and the ball gets tipped
by the dB so it deflex and hits him in
the shoulder pad. Now you're still gotta make that catch
because it comes pretty clean. It's not like he had
He was where it was supposed to be, so it's
not like there wasn't anything in front of where the
ball got. The ball got deflected a little bit now
I still got to catch it. But it's not like that. Hey,
(13:00):
it was right here and I dropped that.
Speaker 3 (13:01):
That's pink, that's pinky, that's it didn't change the trajectory, No.
Speaker 1 (13:07):
It did. You say you could see the ball deflect.
He had his hands where the ball was going to be,
and then it deflected and it came and hit him
back in the shoulder. Pad you still got to catch it.
It's not right, but it's not like it was. You know,
it's not like Tron Matthew. You know the interception that.
Speaker 3 (13:21):
Was like does it gets I mean, come on that
that was just insane. But but all all it is
to say is like what you described for the Jets
is virtually every team an organization in professional sports. It's
just you're in New York, so it gets magnified.
Speaker 1 (13:41):
I don't know about that. All the money they spend
and to be an absolute train wreck. I mean, it's
it's different when you brought in Rogers, and Rogers is
such a big deal, and here he is all look
at me, look at me, look at me, and look
what happened. Right, but still look at me, look at me.
Look how great we're going to be because that's what
the Jets. The Jets give you hope, and that's the
(14:01):
worst thing. Right, What did I tell you last day?
What getting Devontae Adams was great, but it was terrible
because the Jets give you up. There's other teams that
don't unamily, but they don't give you any hope. You
know that team is run badly. You know you're not
gonna win.
Speaker 2 (14:12):
Give me any.
Speaker 1 (14:14):
Talk, no any no. Lots of other teams that aren't
run well, they don't give you hope. The Jets coming
in every year ago, hey, this might be doing but
we really but I know you're the Jets. We're going
to get it done.
Speaker 3 (14:24):
But it's the fact that there's so many Jet e
yans in the media every year. If there weren't Jets
fans in the media, they'd just be another scrub team.
Uh there is I think that's no.
Speaker 1 (14:35):
No, I don't know that that's I think because there's
a lot of Jets fans, there's an anti Jets nest
and they're more excited jump up and down on the
Jets because of it. I don't think there's that. I
don't know there's any editor. They're just they're just oh,
you know what kids doing just talking about the Jets. Sorry,
the Jets are a big story. Aaron Rodgers has been
a big story front. No, I don't like it, just
like people don't like talking about anybody who's been around
for so long. I don't want to talk about this
(14:55):
guy anymore. I talk about this guy.
Speaker 3 (14:57):
I question of whether you can't I can't say anything
if the discourse changes. In this case, it's he's in charge.
He's forced them into bad decisions, and now they're trying
to jerry rig something in the middle of a season
to get back on course.
Speaker 1 (15:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (15:13):
I was surprised, yes, that and end up becoming a
Just wait, but I guess he's a saint.
Speaker 1 (15:18):
But just wait, But I could, I could tell you
that's in twenty twenty four, it's twenty twenty, it's twenty fifteen,
it's twenty ten, it's two thousand and five. It SIT's
for forty years. That's what it is. But tell you it.
It's a difference when you when you are run that
crappy from the top, from the top three positions and
you can't get anything. That's what it is. Man, I'm
a Chicago sports fan. Who the hell do you think talk.
(15:40):
You won the World Series when I was in the
hell do you think you're talking to you? Did you
see this season at a White Sox swe You are
now again, buddy, You're doing your whole thing. You got
your Northwestern hat and your white socks. You you're mixing
all your sports. You know what your sports. You're making
all your sports and bringing all up. If you're the
one that just said I'm look at what I'm wearing,
(16:01):
you were the first you said look at what I'm
wearing to the sweat? So how did I bring out
celebrate the one hundred and twenty No.
Speaker 3 (16:07):
You you extended it because then you decided to look
me up now because you decided to wear your Northwestern
hat with a backwards so I could see the n you.
Speaker 1 (16:16):
That are a cool cat. Yeah, okay, it's upsight. You mixed.
This is what you got your on. You got your
bears right now, look get there you blue and orange
black underpants are not going to be shown unless we
go to a pay for model. It's the Jason Smith
Show with my best friend Rob mclaney wearing all of
his team's gear. Once year sixteen, Let it ride, MC lady,
(16:40):
Let's go let Express Employment Professionals help hire your next pro.
Forget about posting jobs, sifting through resumes, interviews with unqualified applicants.
Move up to the pros. Go to expresspros dot com.
Find a location near you that's expresspros dot com. Uh So,
we'll have more from the NFL coming up next. Cameron
dick Or a fifty yard field goal right at the gun.
He's got fifty nine yarder. So it's a seven to
(17:02):
six lead for the Cardinals going into halftime. Meanwhile, Rashad
Bateman a touchdown, catches second of the night. It's a
twenty seven to ten lead. Now for the Ravens over
the Bucks. We'll have more than fell and Away, plus
for everybody who really does it, like one specific quarterback.
You're not gonna have to watch them play anymore. That's
(17:22):
next right here, Jason to Mike Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (17:25):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (17:35):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmon and The Route as They Say is
on in Tampa Bay when Tampa Bay had a ten
to nothing lead in this game. Those were the days.
It was a lifetime ago, long time ago.
Speaker 3 (17:50):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
The Ravens have now jumped out to a thirty four
to ten lead over Tampa still three minutes ago in
the third quarter. Lamar Jackson has now thrown for four touchdowns.
You wanted Derek Henry to get the ball more had
a big eighty one yard run that last drive. He's
now at nine carries for one hundred and twenty two yards.
And Mark Andrews the recipient of two of those touchdowns
(18:14):
today to give the Ravens a lead. Now, I ask you,
who are the most unhappy people in the world right now?
The most unhappy people in the world, Well, the elderly
that stayed up to watch the.
Speaker 3 (18:26):
Bucks uh okay in clear Water Tampa Okay, I mean
I could call my parents right now. I'm I'm not
sure I have some choice words for Baker Mayfield and
go are they?
Speaker 1 (18:35):
But are they still awaged? In the middle of the
Derek Henry run, they turned the TV off. That's it,
turned it on like that. He might have still been
running like the Guardians fan when Stanton hit the big
home running game in game five and the ball was
hitting and he was running out of the box and
he turned and walked out. Yeah. Yeah, No, the most
(18:58):
upset people in the world, even more so than that,
more so than that, because I know what's going on
right now. Everybody who after week one decided I'm gonna
use all my free agent bucks money on Isaiah Likes No.
I mean you guys, ah, I'm looking at one hundred
and twenty yards game one. Mark Andrews is done. Uh,
when's a guy like this a titand like this is
gonna be available on the open market. Well, but I
(19:20):
use all my money on Isaiah Likely.
Speaker 3 (19:21):
But a couple of weeks ago, the only accolades that
Hardball had for either of his tight ends was, boy,
did you see the pancake blocks?
Speaker 1 (19:28):
They were thrown out there. That's not helping me. I
don't care that they blocked well for Dereck Henry.
Speaker 3 (19:34):
You know, Isaiah Likely coming into this week's game, even
with all of the subpar in the cloak of invisibility performances,
was still sixth amongst tight ends scoring musician was He's.
Speaker 1 (19:48):
Had two big weeks.
Speaker 3 (19:49):
He had that twenty six point week and week one,
and he had a sixteen point week in week five.
Speaker 1 (19:55):
That's enough to rank six. I had two good weeks,
I lost the other four. It's like the Jets. I
had two good weeks and I lost like a right,
that's terrible. So where we sit right now again, Ravens
are thumping the Bucks thirty four to ten late in
the third quarter. Meanwhile, second half just underway. The Cardinals
(20:15):
lead the Chargers seven to six. Again. Cameron Dicker the
big weapon for the Charges so far tonight, a fifty
nine yarder and a fifty yarder for all of their offense.
Speaker 3 (20:25):
Hey go Dicker the kicker. Jalen Rieger actually tried to
make something happen with his next team, now part of
the roster for the Chargers. Had a big play, fantastic
throw from Justin Herbert, but punched out as he went
towards the end zone, and well that was the end
of that touchback and away we go. So a lot
of crazy circumstance because you also had an interception that
(20:47):
the Chargers were returning to only to have it knocked
out and fumbled back to the Cardinals. So a little
bit of chaos. But Dicker the kicker tried and true
seven to six again early in the third quarter. A
long way togo with this. We'll have more on both
of these games throughout the show. But the Deshaun Watson
injury has everybody's tongues wagon for a while. And this
(21:09):
is where I just need to tell everybody relax, it's
over right. Yes, fans were cheering when he got hurt
came off the field. Seen that before.
Speaker 1 (21:18):
I'm old enough to remember when Chad Pennington limped off
a field once for the Jets. Everybody was cheering because
they were done with him being the quarterback. They wanted
something else. What about Michael Irvin when he got hurt
against I mean it was you know that. I mean
we weren't sure he was getting up. Yeah, I mean, look,
we've seen that before. It's different when you see someone
rooting for, you know, their own player and their own
(21:38):
players are they're cheering? You know? Yes? Is that? Is
that a good thing?
Speaker 4 (21:42):
No?
Speaker 1 (21:43):
When someone gets hurt, no matter what, that's a hard thing.
These guys all put their body, you know, to a man,
they put their bodies on the line and put them
through unbelievable punishment. No is Deshaun Watson a good guy. No,
he's not so I I it's one of those Sam Kinnison.
I understand it, but I don't condone it kind of
situation right because these guys go out there every week
to put their bodies on the line.
Speaker 3 (22:03):
All of them should have been holding cards like they
were Arthur Flett from the first Joker. I may laugh
uncomfortably reference the first. Don't reference the second joker. I
think you have you seen it?
Speaker 1 (22:12):
No? No, I did? No, No, don't reference it. I did.
I can do it an hour long, no modelog. I
was one of the only people to see it. But
if you said it, all you can do is remind
people the money they spent to go see that movie
and get them upset. So let's keep people in a
good mood. Let's kill them a good.
Speaker 3 (22:26):
But you know what, did they find solidarity with me?
As someone else who.
Speaker 1 (22:31):
Said so they got solid that ready? You know what
I'm saying, I got solid deb reity. No, they just
remember Harmon's not giving me back the fifteen dollars I
spent on that movie. So suggest that they'd go to
see it like that? But uh, look, for all of
the Deshaun Watson, how are the Browns gonna move on.
What are they doing? Look how stuck they are. That's
solved now, okay, it's solved because the Browns are terrible.
(22:54):
He's out for the year, and they're gonna draft extremely
high enough to get a quarterback. Right, they're gonna draft
They're terrible. When are they gonna win a game? They're awful.
They're gonna play Dorian Thompson Robinson instead of Jameis Winston.
Right what he kevistefanskis say, Well, I gotta see what
dtr is like. First, wait, really, Jameis Winston has come
in before. Yeah, so the Browns, No, we are tanking
(23:14):
for next year. And when you're gonna pick that high,
you're drafting your quarterback of the present slash future, whether
he is actually part of the team or whether he
is bought out or whether he is away from the team.
That's gonna be the future of Deshaun Watson. He's done.
The Browns are gonna draft a quarterback. And of course
doesn't matter what your what your situation is, salary cap whise,
(23:35):
how much money you spent, Yes, you have that money
You're gonna build in for your draft picks. So you're
gonna get a quarterback. So it's going to work out
for all of the kids. Let's get rid of the draft. Okay,
it's over now, all this talk, all this conversation about
Deshaun Watson, is he gonna play? Is he not in
the money? And how much are they gonna do? What
do we tell you all along? They'll figure it out
in the off season. They'll tank this year and then
(23:56):
they're gonna get a quarterback and then they're gonna move on.
And you can't tell me the money can be figured out,
even as much as it is here, But now you
take the money out of the equation, because that's how
it's going to go. If I'm the Browns. The number
one thing I need to do at this point, because
right now it's gonna be a race for that number
one pick with the Browns, is I got to show
that I'm stable. We are a stable organization and you
(24:16):
can come here and you can succeed, because you know
what's gonna happen if they have that number one pick.
Can't you just see Dion Sanders saying, my son's not
going up going to Cleveland and Shador saying, yeah, I'm
not going you can see that, right you can. I
can see. I can see it with other players too.
Speaker 3 (24:30):
You got you got the Raiders that are gonna be
vying for the first, second or third pick right now
goes to the I R.
Speaker 1 (24:37):
So now you're back to Minshee more points on the
board than than Cleveland will even with Minshoes.
Speaker 3 (24:42):
But it's still win games. No, they'll win more than
Cleveland will. I think they're both gonna suck. And New
England's there with them as well, although they've got their
guy trade with them. But the point being, there are
several teams that are racing towards the bottom. Carolina they're
no slouch either.
Speaker 1 (24:58):
Yeah, oh no, no, no, they're there too. But this
is where if you're the Browns, you understand this is
what we are doing and you need to show sta
build it. This guy, we're okay to show up here.
You're okay, But what about Deshan, Like, yeah, no, that's okay,
but your ownership that the fans let's say, yeah, I
don't yeah, I don't know about that because it's not
just Deon. I mean we we we think Deane because
he controls so much in his in his kids lives,
(25:20):
but I could see that for another quarterback. You no,
I don't want to go there. That's an absolute. It happens,
and you got to show that we are a safe
and stakable environment for you to come and be a
superstar in the NFL. But if you draft me, am
I still gonna be the quarterback. Is Deshaun Watson gonna
play when he goes back? No matter what? What's the
situation like, And you gotta just you gotta understand that
your next few months is just public relations to say, look,
(25:42):
we got a good thing going on here. It's an
unfortunate situation. But you come in and we are moving ahead. Well,
I need you have to convince your owner Jimmy has them. Dude,
it's over.
Speaker 3 (25:51):
Jimmy, the hostage video that he's been making Stefanski do
in front of the media.
Speaker 1 (25:56):
You gotta tell him, I have now realized the error
of my ways. Dude, it's over. Deshaun Watson's not going
to play for us again. It's over. I know you're
paying him. It was bad. We were all on board
with it. It didn't work out. Unfortunately, these things happened
in the NFL. When you want to guarantee all kinds
of money to a guy that didn't want to come there.
That's on you, right. Yes, I know we're on board,
but it happened, and continuing to try to think that
(26:18):
it's going to get better is just not going to
So as long as they do that and then just
understand that their next quarterback is playing in college somewhere now.
Maybe they'll pick first, maybe they'll pick second. Maybe it's
Carson Beck, maybe it's somebody else, But that's how it's
going to go. They will get a quarterback of the
future in the next few months. That's how this season's
(26:39):
going for the Browns. And all the money that Deshaun
Watson has, it's really not going to be about is
Deshaun Watson. It's going to be is he still on
the team? Are they still paying him? How much are
they still paying It's just going to be about where
his status is with the team as far as his salary,
because in the next two when the draft comes, I mean,
people realize that Deshaun Watson era is over now and
it's going to be somebody new, someone else that's in
(27:01):
college right now they're gonna get in the draft.
Speaker 3 (27:03):
No, it should be, but now you begin the rehab process,
and we've talked about the money and and Haslm's just
a different guy, right.
Speaker 1 (27:11):
It's like, why when I was trying to.
Speaker 3 (27:12):
Convince you that, you know, Venom Jerry wasn't gonna wasn't
gonna win, right in the eleventh hour, bad things were
gonna happen. And look exactly what happened bad, Like Haslm's
a bad just he's a bad owner, right, and he's
made bad decisions and he's decided this is the hill
he's gonna die on. And a lot of the stuff
the teammates sticking up for Deshaun Watson, he's your guy.
(27:36):
And even in Miles Garrett, he planted a line that
I think a lot of people missed, talking about being
a model citizen and whatever he said, most of the pros,
you know, I recognizing no, no, no, not always, so you know,
make sure you parse out all my words. But all
of that, they see a team maker down. And remember
a lot of Cleveland fans were okay with it as
(27:58):
long as Deshaun Watson was potentially gonna help them win,
and when it went bad, they cut him loose. So
that was part of the angst that goes down there.
But yeah, to your point, you've now got to sell stability.
You had the coach of the year, obviously, you had
a grown up at quarterback in Joe Flacco that needed
to leave because Haslam didn't want anything else around Deshaun
(28:20):
Watson and Stefanski knew that wasn't gonna be good for
the locker room. All of that to say, now you've
got to try to reconstruct that.
Speaker 1 (28:27):
Good luck, good luck.
Speaker 3 (28:29):
You've still got a really good roster except that giant
black hole that is the court, except.
Speaker 1 (28:34):
For the most important position, except for that.
Speaker 3 (28:36):
One right there where god Nick Chubb's coming back great headline.
Speaker 1 (28:39):
Hey, Nick, can you do a story for the Player's
Tribune or the Athletic or something and talk about how
great it is to get back to the people of Cleveland.
Please please. It's like what my mom used to say
to me, like at eight o'clock at night on a Wednesday,
when I was getting ready to watch like Moonlighting or
something like, and I had a test the next day. Uh,
is everything all set? Yeah? Yeah, I did all my
(29:01):
homework and you have your study. Yeah, I got my
permission slip ready to go here? You got that? Yes?
Got my lunch ready for tomorrow. Okay, what about your test? Well,
that I have to study for. But it's a huge
hit your it's your ap American history. Everything else is that, right,
But the rest of my homework is done. Everything else
is good. I took my shower. I'm good. Yeah. No,
I have to study for the big Testimer, but everything
(29:22):
else is good. But what are you gonna do that.
I'm gonna watch Moonlighting and then, uh, you know, I'll
agro shum walk by light, sharm flo burday. Jason stopped
singing to me. Just you get a study, yes, after the.
Speaker 3 (29:38):
Moon Listen, listen how well I memorized things moon lighting
stranger we just met on.
Speaker 1 (29:44):
The worry he some walk by light. Uh. Then I'm
gonna study. Good, don't worry about it. It's fine, it's fine.
I've been working all semesters. It's fine. Don't worry about it. Mom,
it's fine. But but that's the most important thing. Yeah,
but everything else is taking care of That's that's the Browns.
That's Brown's right. That's so good. There you go, and
we got some moonlighting in time not to find out
(30:05):
what's trending in the wide world of Sports from David Addison,
who's got the latest right here with what's.
Speaker 4 (30:10):
Trending moonlighting reference for those who didn't, you know, flew
over their heads. By the way, he doesn't moonlight as
a singer either, but that was a very good impersonation.
Speaker 1 (30:18):
Serious. I actually I actually bought Bruce Willis's album when
he put it out Bruno in the Heat and were
listening to Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 4 (30:25):
He did not sing the theme song though.
Speaker 1 (30:27):
No, we didn't. That was Algira, alger that was Algerra.
Speaker 4 (30:30):
We have two Monday night football games, including the one
Chargers at Arizona that's on ESPN.
Speaker 2 (30:36):
Plus, it doesn't feel like a Cardinals hunge.
Speaker 1 (30:38):
There are so many folks in glue here, but those
who are supporting the home seamer are fired up at
the moment. Yeah no, no, wait, wait a minute, no,
wait a minute. The Chargers can't get home fans. That's
not true. That's so far once again, longest okay, for
the longest time, they couldn't get fans at so far.
Speaker 4 (30:56):
No, that's not true.
Speaker 1 (30:56):
Yeah it is everyone everybody else to buy the tip.
It's it was dude. Philip Rivers were talking about how
we have just silent count at home the other team
time out.
Speaker 4 (31:06):
Philip Rivers first three years in Los Angeles were at
the LA Galaxy.
Speaker 1 (31:12):
So far, okay, at the games, at the games, okay.
Speaker 4 (31:17):
So you realize when they started at the Soccer stadium,
it was twenty five thousand seats, so they doubled the
prices so Charger fans and mass would sell off tickets
when say, the Steelers were in town because it could
help them.
Speaker 1 (31:30):
But it's so appacently it's less money to go to
Arizona and see a game.
Speaker 4 (31:37):
No, this is not an either or sure it is. No,
it's not, Yes it is. Okay, once again, you're not
even close to accurate.
Speaker 1 (31:43):
It is absolutely accurate.
Speaker 4 (31:45):
What are you saying that there are no Charger fans
in Los ange.
Speaker 1 (31:48):
But how could they not draw fans for the longest time?
But then on the road, Look at all these Charger
fans are here now.
Speaker 4 (31:53):
It's not unusual that the team that's new to town
eventually gets more fans.
Speaker 1 (31:56):
Have they all retired to Arizona's out of fans retired
to Arizona?
Speaker 4 (31:59):
Are you implying nobody from the state of California is
at this game?
Speaker 1 (32:04):
Apparently they are.
Speaker 2 (32:05):
I didn't know they were.
Speaker 4 (32:07):
There are Charger fans.
Speaker 1 (32:08):
They shouldn't surprise cheaper to get tickets to see this game,
to fly there than to get Dodgers World Series tickets.
So I'm gonna go see the charge. There are Charger
fans at all road games. You see them in the stands.
They're just noticeably more tonight. Okay, granted it's the neighboring state. Okay,
but I was going to point out for those who
love this show, we usually hear from Golden Headphones, our producer.
(32:30):
He is not here tonight because he is in the
booth of Chargers Radio. Good snap, kick us up, and
it is good. That was probably him cheering right in
the backyard, clapping behind that money Smith.
Speaker 4 (32:44):
Is he right?
Speaker 1 (32:46):
Sick?
Speaker 4 (32:47):
Light to go Chargers Radios, iHeartRadio with Matt with the
call There.
Speaker 2 (32:53):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven
pm as it Thick White Nights.
Speaker 1 (33:02):
Right, this is from Oh Nicely Dog Nights.
Speaker 3 (33:04):
Yeah, this is from Rio, Little Gregory Hines, Michale Verishna call.
Speaker 1 (33:08):
Okay, Yes it is from Rio, Yes it is. That's
where I heard this from It is the Rio song. Yes,
when he first sees what's her name dressed up for
the usual Yeah, yeah, yeah, this is how I know
this song. Yeah no, no, okay, it was an awesome
dream awesome yeah. No, no. This actually from Rage from
a movie in the eighties Mary, like Way before you
were born, like I was watching.
Speaker 4 (33:30):
I was in the eighties, eighty five dog My mom
was ten years old.
Speaker 1 (33:34):
Bro, now goes the song. This is from the Bird movie.
I'm just saying where it's from the Bird movie movie.
It's not like my grandfather. I watched a bird the
Bird movie. Well, I don't know what bird Man with
Michael Keaton. No, no, the Bird movie, Don't Wait in Brazil. No,
the Bird movie. Oh oh you mean the Birds. Yeah
yeah yeah, Hitchcock movie. Okay, Yeah, she's in the phone
(33:55):
booth and she can't get out and the birds keep
flying into it. Yeah, that's all, Okay. I saw that
the Jason Smith Show with Mike Carbon live from the
tire Rack dot Com Studios. Right now, the Ravens make
it a forty to eighteen lead over the Buccaneers now
with about six and a half to go in the
fourth quarter and five touchdown five five from Lamar Jackson
(34:20):
Derrick Henry catching one from thirteen yards out. So we're
gonna be breaking down a big Ravens blowout coming up
in a few minutes. Meanwhile, seven to six still Cardinals
and the Chargers late in the third quarter, but Chargers
driving for what could be the go ahead score. We'll
have more on this game coming up in the next
few minutes. Meanwhile, let me get to a story that
(34:42):
you know, and it pains me when I hear the
promos running on the network about my thoughts of what
what could possibly the Steelers offense have going on with
Russell Wilson on Sunday night against the Jets. Okay, Russell
Wilson was okay on Sunday, all right, he was okay?
Is he great? No? The best thing I can say,
(35:03):
and this is and this is a positive thing because
it's still Justin Fields is better quarterback, but I get it.
The best thing I can say is that he finished
drives on short fields, which is what Justin Fields and
the and the Sealers have trouble doing finishing drives Now.
Of course, when you're gifted the ball, the one you're
gonna get in the end zone right when you're gifting
the ball the thirty yard line. It was by DeVante
(35:25):
Adams though, yeah, it was great play by dat tell
you what. He was no slouch trying to just to
at least have to run a play that was great
and one player in the end zone. Uh, he tried.
It's another thing when you when you get a block
kick and you have a short field. He finished drives
on short fields and and and that's something that's a
big deal. Getting in the end zone and not kicking
(35:46):
field goals. That's a thing. But it's not like Russell
Wilson came in and sliced and diced up the Jets.
You look at oh, two sixty four thirty seven points. Yeah, okay, yes,
it looks it looks impressive, but he was really bad early.
He threw the ball up late the Jets had a
lot of injuries defensively, and he made a couple that
you're throwing the ball along, deciding I have the confidence
throw the ball along. I'm not saying he was horrible,
(36:09):
but this, oh, oh, Russell Wilson. Russell Wilson was okay.
And I know Mike Tomlin's standing up right now breaking
both his arms, patting himself on the back like, oh see,
I told him how to feel and I went lone
wolf and making Russell Wilson our quarterback. Okay, I'm pretty
sure that the Steelers would have still beat the Jets
that badly with Justin Fields at quarterback. So I need
to see more from Russell Wilson before I could say, Okay,
(36:31):
he's great. Now was he bad?
Speaker 4 (36:32):
No?
Speaker 1 (36:32):
But what I'm gonna say is, okay, that was great.
They won. Now let's see him do it again. Let's
see him do it again and see when he's not
gifted the ball. They're not starting on the average of
the Jets fifteen yard line. If he's going to be great,
let's see him do that.
Speaker 3 (36:45):
I would say this, they watching this one from pillar
to post, and you heard the boo birds were out
in full force, right, So he was certainly wearing it early,
some worm burners and some bad throws. But what he
did do, and part of it was George pick was
re engaged. Whether it was reading social media of people
tearing him apart for the last week, the fact that
(37:07):
he let the cat out of the bag probably got
him an ass chewing from Mike Tomlin and company as
well related to Russ starting, even though we were all
assuming that was going to be the case, but you
got some efforts from him, and as much as they
did everything to bow down to Russ about the deep ball,
that is one thing that justin Fields throws a lot
(37:28):
of balls on a line drive.
Speaker 1 (37:30):
Russ put the ball up and let his guys go
make plays. So that is one thing that one big
difference to where they could go win one on one matchups.
And then he got credit for a couple of balls
that I think you or I could have made the
throw where I was standing by himself doing jumping jacks.
Going up next, more on both Monday night games and
a big developing story out of the NFC's best team.
(37:53):
This is Fox Sports Radio
