Everything you need, just search Jason Smith Mike Harmon. You

gonna continue to break down this game. Look, this is
a fun game. Two great teams, two quarterbacks playing at
an extremely high level tonight, Jared Goff and Lamar Jackson.

(01:10):
I think if combined for two incomplete passes the entire
way so far. Mark Andrews, because it's not the playoffs,
caught a touchdown at the pylon to give the Ravens
a twenty one to fourteen lead right now midway through
the third quarter, Detroit getting the football back, but as
the Baltimore Ravens now with the lead after it was
the Lions who got out to lead early tonight.

Speaker 3 (01:29):
Yeah, the big play drive eighteen plays ninety eight yards,
ten forty eight off the clock in the second quarter
of the stuff the excellence of execution for Detroit sledge
amb or football. And then we watched the Ravens respond.
But on this last drive, this is one of those
they were doing the a let's extol the virtues and
you know the quarterback rating for Lamar Jackson blah blah blah.

(01:52):
Immediately throws the ball into double coverage, should have been picked,
falls harmlessly, incomplete, cool drive continues, gets down towards the
red zone, throws the ball again into double coverage.

Speaker 4 (02:04):
Falls.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
Hargle says, like everybody else like, oh boy, he's gonna
give you one or two.

Speaker 4 (02:09):
You know, Lamar, It's like.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
Hey, here's what doesn't count, man, This is This is
what I what do I say all the time? I
would be the best defensive backs coach that any team
could ever have, because all I would do would be
bleeping ball skills every practice. Right, two dropped interceptions to
the Lions on this drive, right, I mean, DB's you
gotta have ball skills, man, Like these are I can't

(02:31):
believe that these are in plays Like every few years
in the NFL, you get the big the new genre
of hey, this is a thing that has to you know,
we can't get along. We can't go on with this
still happening. It's a new wave of the NFL. We
have to get rid of it, right or we have
to do better on it, whether it's you know you here.
For years, it was getting off the field on third down.

(02:51):
Gotta got the field on third down, third and five,
you gotta get off the field. But I can't get
over the number of times and we still just say,
oh my goodness, what you know, a missed up tunity?
But these are game changing plays. When you drop a
pick that you have to catch this. I'm not saying
you got to make a miraculous play, but when the
ball is in your hands, all right, you you can't.

(03:11):
You can't let that hit the ground like either defensive
back or Marvin Harrison junior.

Speaker 4 (03:15):
Oh, you got to catch the ball.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
Man, I don't know I can help Marvin Harrison junior. Man,
that was I don't know. Man, Well, you're in the
middle of the field by yourself. I don't know I
can say to catch the ball.

Speaker 3 (03:25):
But yet yet people will criticize the stat line of
Kyler Murray today.

Speaker 4 (03:28):
Yeah, but anyway, but is that I mean, look the Lions.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
You have two times you got to get the football
on that drive, and you drop two interceptions.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
Well, and then Lamar comes back and throws the perfect
pass to Andrews and they immediately show the drop for
the playoffs like cool, cruel world, but like a perfect thing.
He hits the flat right around the goal line. Uh,
and it's perfectly placed, lays out, catches the touchdown, big
drive for Andrews, and Lamar gets the touchdown pass to

(03:56):
close it out to give them the seven point lead.
Shouldn't have gotten there, should have been should have been
Lions ball and and and we have to and really
we have to get past Oh wow, that could have
been a pick. Oh that no, that's a game that's
a game changing play. That is a game changing play
that you have to make. Right If this is I
don't think I'm asking a lot of dbs to do

(04:17):
something that they don't know how to do. But man,
when the lights go on, the lack of ball skills
on some guys is just absolutely insane. We don't We
don't spend enough time saying, hey, that's the game changing
play right there.

Speaker 4 (04:29):
You drive.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
We talk about game changing interceptions all the time. Not
catching it is is such a big deal because that's
a that's at least a seven point swing, probably more.

Speaker 4 (04:40):
Two times, not just once.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
Two times you had the chance to do that, not
drive and the ball hits up and DJ Reid, I
don't know what he's doing. I mean, he reads the
half back option, but he reads the play. It's he's
got it and it's just in his hands. He's just
tapping it around in his hands. In it it's the
crowd and I'm saying, you gotta catch that, man. Really,
I mean that I would be the best defensive backs
because all I would What are we doing today? What

(05:03):
do you think we're doing today? We're doing ball skills
practice all probably because I've I've had it watching all
the fun training camp videos of guy's going watch me
catch this ball with one hand. Watch because without looking
with one hand, I could do this with one finger.
And then in the game, when when a flutterball was
thrown right to you it hits the ground. I can't
have that anymore.

Speaker 4 (05:22):
Man, can't do it. Gotta get that more spider tack.
Let's go.

Speaker 1 (05:26):
Uh but look tonight right now again, still tons of
time left. Midway through the third quarter. The Lions are
driving now following the Ravens go ahead touchdown. I'll look,
these are two absolute heavyweights, right, but this game is
is much bigger tonight for the Ravens than the Lions.
They need this more simply because they've already given one
game away earlier this year. Here they are at home.

(05:49):
If they lose another game to another contender, suddenly you're
one and two. Now your division is not is not great,
but clearly you are seeing your You're seeing yourselves. Hey,
one and two, and you know someone's gonna someone's gonna
jump up here, right The Steelers gonna keep winning games
like this. I don't think so. But now the Browns
defense is really good. The Bengals. Clearly they got problems,
but this would be it. This would be another situation

(06:12):
where you have the Ravens up against a big contender
at home and you lose.

Speaker 4 (06:16):
The Lions they're kind.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
Of looking at the vision is oh, maybe it ain't
that great as we thought it was gonna Maybe it's
not gonna be the huge competitive thing we were at
where you know, after week one, we're like, man, everybody,
look the Vikings. They win, Let they win yesterday, they
get a defensive effort you're never gonna get again in
the history of the NFL fantasy points and Carson Wentz
ain't ain't really gonna do it.

Speaker 4 (06:36):
So the Vikings, yeah, they have problems.

Speaker 1 (06:39):
Uh you see that. The Packers after yesterday, boy, they
have that. They have problems. They were talking about going
undefeated last week at practice. Packers have some problems too.

Speaker 2 (06:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (06:46):
Now Lafloor's doing all sorts of speeches about that time, like, really,
that's the thing that took you down.

Speaker 1 (06:52):
So this, I would say, of the two look big
game for both teams. You want to win games against contender.
It would be a bigger win for the Lions going
on the road winning this. It would be a bigger
loss of the Ravens because now you will have had
two big games in the first three weeks where these
are Super Bowl contenders and we had them and we
wound up finding a way to lose.

Speaker 3 (07:11):
And then you go on the road next week to
Kansas City. Whatever they are at this point, we'll talk
about them as the night goes on. As they got
the win on Sunday Night football, was it pretty No.
I watched a streak of paint dry on my wall
that was about as illustrative of greatness.

Speaker 4 (07:30):
But here's where we look at this.

Speaker 3 (07:32):
Squad, you know, there they got back to the sledgehammer
for a minute, back to Montgomery and a bit of Gibbs.
So I'm still trying to find their identity. Right That
game against Chicago was one of those he we make
it personal, and we're gonna start, you know, hitting out
all silks, kind of like the Bears seem to do
to Matt eve Refluse a bit yesterday. But we'll get again.

(07:53):
We'll get to that in full effect later on. But
you know, watching this game unfolds, it's just been an
interest staying back and forth.

Speaker 4 (08:01):
Right when they have a.

Speaker 3 (08:03):
Futile effort on a possession, they seem to follow it
up with a decent defensive one and then then we
start trading scores as we did. Right now, I'm and
Ross Saint Brown an eighteen yard touchdown catch from Jared Goff.
So now the Lions are gonna extra point away from
tying this game at twenty one. You just know, because
the theme of this week, this game is going to

(08:24):
come down to a field goal at the end that's
going to get blocked in return for a touchdown. That's right,
That's that's gonna be the theme of this week. You
think a little easier if you had that get fifty
three and a half over, Yeah, I feeling things opened
up a little bit that eighty, But yeah, going into
halftimes like that's.

Speaker 4 (08:40):
All I got.

Speaker 1 (08:41):
Yeah, Now, look, obviously, look twenty one to twenty one. Again,
Lions are an extra point away from tying this a
twenty one apiece five and a half to go in
the third quarter. The extra point is good. That ties
us up. Look just for this because obviously this is
the week that's going to be known as the blockfield goal.
Right the button you had the blockfield goal the Jets
Bucks game you had the block field goal, you know,

(09:02):
blockfields all over the place, but obviously Jets Bucks was
the big one. And then the bigger one turned out
to be the end of the Eagles in the Rams
and for all of this like wow, all of a sudden,
like yeah, maybe I'd just be one of those weeks
where we get the blocks and we don't know why. No,
I definitely see a big push as to why we're

(09:23):
getting these blocks, why we're why we saw this in
such full effect this week compared to any other time
before now right seeing the first couple of weeks season,
I think there's two reasons why we saw it. Number
one is that you are seeing teams pushing the boundaries now,
like the tush push, right, let's push the boundaries. If
we get called, we get called. But if we block it,

(09:44):
it's a big play for us, like like you know,
you want the leaping call that last week was wait,
what's happening, clar That's how the Jets blocked this, blocked
their field goal against the Bucks, but it didn't get called.
So you're seeing teams okay with let's push the boundaries
now on field goals because the field goal kickers are
so good, we can, but we need to take a
chance here because this field goal is going to give
them the game and we need to take a chance

(10:05):
to block it. The Jets blocked it, ran it back
for a touchdown, and again they forgot there was ninety
seconds left.

Speaker 4 (10:09):
But still, you know, that was that.

Speaker 3 (10:11):
But it was a big moment and a good viral
moment on September twenty hours.

Speaker 1 (10:15):
Yeah, so that's one is that, Okay, teams are saying, hey,
we can really sell out more and we can push
the boundaries more on blockfield goals.

Speaker 4 (10:25):
The other part is that.

Speaker 1 (10:27):
I think teams have to take more chance, and they're
taking more chances with blocking field goals because for the
longest time, the general consensus been, hey, when it's a
long field goal, don't get a penalty, let them kick it,
let them get the player, don't jump off sides, don't
give the an extra five yards, don't do anything that's
going to give them an easier kick. But now we've
seen in Week one. You know, even in the in preseason,

(10:48):
we had a seventy yard field goal, right, Chris Boswell
kicks a sixty yarder like it was nothing for the
Steelers to beat the Jets in a place to its Historically,
it is really difficult to kick field goals, right, and
we've seen now six yard field goals guys make them.
We are in the best phase ever in the history
of the NFL as the talent at the field goal
kicking position. People are kicking fifty and fifty five yards

(11:11):
to win games regularly. Now the fifty five yards is
the new forty yarder, right, Like, yeah, you are seeing
guys do this. So now teams know, okay, when guys
are kicking longer field goals, we have to get we
have to get more aggressive. We can't just play the
Hey let's jump up, let's get up in the air
and try to see what we can do.

Speaker 4 (11:28):
Right.

Speaker 1 (11:28):
The Eagles even said this at the end of the
game yesterday after they won. I think it was Jayalen
Carter who said, Hey, lots of teams go out there
at the end of games and kicking it inside. Hey,
jump up, get your hands up, and don't make a mistake. No,
we know we got to go out there and we
have to make a play. He blocked the field goal yesterday,
So I think that's the other reasons you're seeing teams understand, Hey,
we can't just give these guys kicks from fifty to
fifty five yards because they're making them. So now you're

(11:50):
seeing teams get more aggressive and when you have to
kick it lower, obviously the further out you are, you're
going to get more blocks like this. I think this
is a trend that you saw this week, not an
anomaly going to continue.

Speaker 4 (12:00):
No concede nothing.

Speaker 3 (12:01):
Last year you had eighteen block kicks on over eleven
hundred field goal attempts. But going in in the rudimentary
research of field goal attempts fifty yards and further, like
five years ago, it was about a fifty eight percent
success rate, then it started creeping into the sixties. Last
year seventy one point four percent. Makes So you take

(12:25):
your shot right again, push the envelope and let's let
the league offices adjudicate what truly constitutes leverage and whatever
other interpretation we're going to have of advantage being gained.

Speaker 4 (12:37):
I agree with you.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
I mean, because we're watching guys in pregame, they'll do
the quick little shot of like, yeah, he was hitting
from sixty seven, there's a giant cross wind, or there's
a wind pushing back on it doesn't matter. He's got
a big leg. And if you're not going to push
towards the block and they can just leisurely go through
the swing, come on now, Like it was always bad business,

(13:00):
but the percentage, it's kind of like going on four
and on fourth down for all those years, the math
was right, just you didn't have the temperament to do
it right on fourth and one and fourth and two.
Forget about the tush push for a second. Just go
back with the traditional quarterback sneak or calling it pat
quick pass play or quick dive run or whatever that.
You used to chew that pretty regularly. And then the

(13:23):
last five years suddenly we changed to where a lot
more teams are going for it on fourth down, not
necessarily even with the most advantageous field position.

Speaker 4 (13:32):
Either.

Speaker 3 (13:32):
It's the all right, I'll trust my defense and I'll
trust my offensive line that we can get three feet.
And now with the kicking game, it's the same way.
We can't give up another possession another three points so
easily without at least putting a rush on exit.

Speaker 4 (13:49):
Ou about a fresco exit.

Speaker 1 (13:50):
Swallowing down the Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon this field goal block trend.

Speaker 3 (13:54):
It is here to stay well. You'll get more dancing
by your coach. Yeah, until he loses again. You know,
we'll get you know what? Okay, Okay, I got to
count to ten and then we'll talk about it.

Speaker 4 (16:57):
It's a check touchdown. That's a check touchdown off of
the block.

Speaker 2 (17:03):
Fail goal.

Speaker 4 (17:05):
We're tight with one to go. Unbelievable. Player of the day.

Speaker 1 (17:12):
Bob was choosing Jets Radio Network on the goal. The
Play of the Day, of course, is brought to you
by tire Rack. For over forty years, tire Rack's been
helping customers find the right tires for how, what and
where they drive. Shipped fast and free backed by free Road,

Tirerac dot Com is the way tire buying should be.

(17:34):
Think about how great that play would have been if
the lead held up. You know, here's the thing, here's
the thing, and why why are we playing September? First
of all, it was on the twenty first of September.
You'll never forget it. No, And there was a great
U meme put out today of the ISO shot of
Aaron Glenn Jet's head coach dancing on the sidelines during

(17:54):
this play synced up to September by Earth Wind and Fire.

Speaker 4 (17:59):
Hey got earth winning tickets, uh.

Speaker 1 (18:01):
Which was so awesome, right, And it's it really it
makes it really makes you laugh, like because they really
they hit the part.

Speaker 4 (18:07):
Of him doing the stepping. Oh, he's perfectly timed. Insane,
you know.

Speaker 1 (18:11):
And here's the thing, and this is this is me
being you know, this is me seeing a Jets game
in my life, and this is where Aaron Glenn I'm like, Okay,
as much as I like him, the dude is still
learning to become an NFL head coach. Is this is
a huge play? Okay, the Jets were getting boat raced
and Will McDonald blocks blocks the field goal. I'd run
it back for a touchdown. And it's so unbelievably exciting.

(18:32):
But I'm like, Okay, I get Bob with Shues's excitement,
I get I get in the studio you're yelling. I
get me yelling and screaming. There's over a minute and
a half left in the game. Okay, you're only gonna
be up by a point, you got it. There's another
minute and a half left to go, and and the
Bucks made it look so bleeping easy. Right now, Look,
did you talk about just watch that Monday tape. We've

(18:55):
talked about this with Baker Mayfield, right, I told you
right that that that Baker Mayfield has become a top
seven quarterback in the NFL. And I get I get
Brady vibes, breat end of game Brady vibes from him.
Now where he's going to take the bucks down to
score it. You can't give him too much time because
he's in that He's in that company where whenever Brady

(19:16):
had the football, no matter what kind of time left,
it's it's it's it's not, it's not it's too much.
He's gonna get down there in thirty eight seconds. Mahomes,
Baker Mayfield is in that conversation because I've seen him
now do it the last couple of years so many times.
He is so good in those situation. Again, I get
Brady vibes from Mayfield and I'm watching on this is great,
but I'm going Aaron Glint, dude, there's a there's a

(19:37):
minute forty left, man, and your defense has been getting
work the entire game. Yes, you've kept him out of
the end zone a couple of times. You're you force
him to kick four field goals, but they're getting down
the field. What do they need, Mike Carmon to win
the game?

Speaker 4 (19:51):
Field go right, Hey, okay for safety.

Speaker 1 (19:54):
And I'm like this and I'm watching and that's me,
but that's me being Jada Jet fan again, having seen
a Jet game the course of my life. Going there's
still a minute forty five left and this sideline is
like the game is over.

Speaker 2 (20:05):
Now.

Speaker 4 (20:05):
I get it.

Speaker 1 (20:05):
I get that they're excited, but man, you know, look,
I will just watch Robert Sala live that for for
two and a half years.

Speaker 7 (20:12):
Hey.

Speaker 1 (20:12):
Man, when things are great, I'm dancing. When things are bad,
I'm sullying and I'm looking I'm blaming everybody.

Speaker 4 (20:17):
Again.

Speaker 1 (20:18):
It's a it's a learning moment for Aaron Glenn and
I get the excitement, but dude, there's a minute. This
game is not It's not like you blocked it on
the final player regulation you ran it back for a
touchdown and you won the game, or there's three seconds
left and you have to you have to execute the
kickoff like all that.

Speaker 4 (20:32):
All that I get this is.

Speaker 1 (20:34):
Like, Okay, you're giving the ball right back to a
quarterback who just got who's had no problem getting you
in field goal range for the left for the for.

Speaker 4 (20:40):
This entire game.

Speaker 1 (20:41):
And I felt like that that's a that's a message
that the coach needs to send out. Hey, that's great.
It's what I believed was gonna happen. We stayed in
this game. Nobody quit. We came back. Now now we
gotta go finish. But it's like the game was over
at that point. And then I'm sitting of going, you know,
head coach, you gotta.

Speaker 4 (20:58):
Know better, man.

Speaker 1 (20:59):
I get you're excited, but you gotta know better, man.
And it was easy and the but it was easy
for Mayfield the Bucks they got down there for a
field goal. It was it wasn't even like you set
him up in a couple of fourth downs, we set
him in third long. It was easy for Mayfield to
get down there.

Speaker 4 (21:13):
He had a thirty one yard kickoff return. I mean really,
it just started.

Speaker 1 (21:16):
I mean yeah, of course, which you can't let him have, right,
you can't yet, But again, where are you are you mentally?
The game is over again. You're talking about over a
minute and a half left to go, man, I mean,
we're there's so much time left at this point. I'm going, Okay,
this is this is a Jet's gonna lose this twenty
nine to twenty seven.

Speaker 3 (21:31):
But that's how Mike Evans, he's gone with the injuries.
So now it's you're finding the the next up and
Abuco with a couple of big catches, Shepherd with a
big reception and you're kneeling down. Now, we'd be remiss
if we didn't go to the post game quote. I
loved it Mayfield set of beating the Jets. Also they're
DC that's uh Wilkes right, was the one who cut

(21:53):
me in Carolina. So a lot of stuff was personal today.
Pause Hassan Reddick. Yeah, he's a former Jet too.

Speaker 1 (22:01):
It all personal, Yes, it's all you know what if
it works right, But.

Speaker 3 (22:05):
But we're figuring out those driving motivations. Tom Brady has
been very open through the years about finding motivation of
beating people. The greatest of all time, Michael Jordan still
many years later, sitting there with an iPad and channeling
that and sending bad bad juju to all those guys
in their homes while the last dance was going on.
Baker Mayfield channeling all of that and part of the

(22:27):
Brady thing. Also, you know when you talk about the
calm inside the two minutes, that guy's been to hell
and back right in terms of his football Odyssey and
there you go. We get back to Odyssey member without
Caitlyn Kluk. But the idea that for Baker Mayfield, it's
not the I don't care, but it's like I've had failure,
so I'm going to leave everything on the field. Right,

(22:49):
there's no reticence, Like he's not losing this job. He's
lost many before it. So when it comes to executing
an offense, he's now got the belief of all of
those guys as in that locker room and especially last week,
right coming off of that win Monday Night where he's
giving up his body and and tweaks and knee and
still keeps fighting forward. Yeah, you want to talk about

(23:11):
a cohesive unit. Not to mention the fact you're not
losing in those uniforms, you're just not Yeah, no, no, No
screamsycles are you know plus one and a half?

Speaker 1 (23:21):
No, I mean real, those scream schools are worth one
and a half points, worth one any like that. I
mean I'm watching that and I'm going we're just we're
just gonna lose. But I'm such a fatalist, right, We're
lose twenty nine, twenty seven, We're gonna lose this game
we're gonna but there was I mean, like, you're the
head coach. You have to set the tone for everything
going on. I get there's probably lots of head coach

(23:42):
you want to jump up and down like lunatics when
a team makes a play, But you know, hey, understand
the job isn't done. You took the lead, but now
you have one of the best quarterbacks in the league
is getting the ball back with a minute forty minute
forty five left to go, plenty of time for a
field goal, plenty of time, and guess what, That's exactly
what happened. But it stands in stark contrast. And we
were having a laugh before we came on air. We'll

(24:04):
pull the curtain back.

Speaker 3 (24:05):
We're watching Monday night football, chatting up a little bit
off the weekend and everything, and this clip goes up
comparing the countenance of Matt Eberflus against our new coach
Ben Johnson there in Chicago and postgame and everything else.
But endgame is where I'm going to on that flea
flicker which almost went wrong fifteen different times, but Burton

(24:29):
comes down with the touchdown and they panned a Ben
Johnson once he got hands on.

Speaker 4 (24:34):
On the thighs. He's not smiling, he's not grinning.

Speaker 3 (24:38):
You know, he wants to let out a big fist
pump whatever, because that was the talk pre game and
all week of just put the ball up over these
beleaguered Dallas cornerback and safety. Either you're going to be
able to get the big play, and sure enough it hits.
But he's not even cracking a smile versus do you remember, I.

Speaker 4 (25:00):
Mean, broh, that's all I would sink. If there's a
minute and what are we doing? What we did? The
game is not over. They need a field goal game.
That's just it, right.

Speaker 3 (25:08):
It doesn't extend it to an eight point lead or
a two possession lead. It's and especially off the conversation
we just had fifteen minutes ago. Listen to the whole show,
download the podcast while we're done. Is where we're talking
about field goal kickers. Now, obviously there's a degree of certainty.
Go ask the Atlanta Falcons about that today. But you

(25:30):
have at least a chance, even if you have to
superte it. You don't need a lot of yardage to
at least put yourself in the position to take the
shot at the long range field goal and that was
the disappointing thing, especially once you saw the kickoff returns, like, wow,
they need like twenty yards.

Speaker 4 (25:47):
That's it. That's all. I was thinking, that's all.

Speaker 1 (25:50):
And I knew and I said, okay, all right, but
Syracuse one, yeah, and yeah, well yeah huge.

Speaker 4 (25:55):
We'll get to that huge win.

Speaker 1 (25:57):
Lost our quarterback, so lost the number one passer in
the country out doors, Achilles, but you took down Yeah no,
but hey no, hey Greg, you wait, dable cry focusing
on the good. Hey, you knowed Dabble, tired of winning?
Maybe tired of winning Clemson.

Speaker 4 (26:12):
Oh you won't change.

Speaker 1 (26:13):
We'll get to that big Bear's flee flicker and performance
against the Cowboys coming up the performance. But first, let's
find out what's trending in the wide world of sports.
For man who apparently has been calling the plays for
the Lions remotely the last few minutes. There's been power
eye formations and pitchbacks and wide receivers pitching to running backs.
It's special delivery, Steve to say, point, did that pitch

(26:34):
right work? I was up and down in the studio
that I would love to have called that play. It
was a genius. I mean, you could see as soon
as nobody fumbled the pitches, Oh my goodness, there's gonna
be a touchdown.

Speaker 7 (26:45):
Jamier Gambs four yard touchdown run to open the fourth
quarter and give Detroit the lead again twenty eight to
twenty one at Baltimore.

Speaker 4 (26:52):
There in the opening minute of.

Speaker 7 (26:53):
The fourth Jared Goff eighteen of twenty three passing one
hundred and seventy nine yards and a touchdown of eighteen
yards in the third to Amanros Saint Brown. Couple of
one yard touchdown runs for Detroit in the first half
Jamiir Gibbs and David Montgomery. Montgomery has a seventy two
yard run that's set up a score. He has nine
carries one hundred and fourteen yards. Jamiir Gibbs seventeen carries

(27:16):
just forty eight yards. Lamar Jackson two touchdown passes won
late first half, one early second half. Derrick Henry an
early touchdown run of twenty eight yards. Aside from that,
it's nine carries nineteen yards for Henry. Tonight this Sunday,
Baltimore's at Kansas City By the Way, Detroit will host
Cleveland forty nine ers. Edge rusher Nick bos is out

(27:37):
for the year with a torn acl San Francisco quarterback
Brock Purty will resume practicing on Wednesday. He was limited
in practice last week. Quarterback Mac Jones just started He's
day to day with a spring knee. Forty nine Ers
wide receiver Juwan Jennings is day to day with a
bad ankle. The suspension of San Francisco White out DeMarcus
Robinson is over. Cardinals running back James Conner is out

(27:57):
for the season. He'll have foot surgery. Arizona wide receiver
Za Jones as a concussion Thursday. Arizona host Seattle. Chargers
backup running back Najie Harris is out for the year
with a torn achilles. Dallas wide receiver CD Lamb could
miss a month with an ankle injury. Cowboys first round
guard Tyler Booker will miss at least four weeks with
a high ankle. Spring Vikings quarterback JJ McCarthy will be

(28:20):
out again this week with an ankle injury. Minnesota will
be in Dublin against Pittsburgh this Sunday morning our time.
The suspension of Minnesota wide receiver Jordan Addison officially ended today.
Washington quarterback Jaden Daniels is still day to day with
a knee injury. The Giants have not announced a starting
QB for Sunday against the Chargers. Atlanta parted ways with
wide receivers coach Ike Hilliard. Tampa Bay Star wide receiver

(28:43):
Mike Evans will have an MRI tomorrow and has injured hamstring.
Cold twide out Alec Pearce is in concussion protocol, and
Dolphins tight end Darren Waller could play next Monday after
a hip injury. Auburn basketball coach Bruce Pearl retired. His
son Stephen, was promoted to head coach. Duke women coach
Karl Lawson is USA Basketball's new women's coach. She was

(29:03):
an assistant last summer. The twenty twenty eight Olympics will
be in LA. The US women have won sixty straight
games in the Olympics. The WNBA Semis continue on Tuesday.
Houston Rockets veteran guard Fred van Vliet reportedly has a
torn ACL three MLB games tonight. The regular season ends
this Sunday. The Atlanta Braves had won eight in a row.

(29:26):
They have won tonight eleven to five is the final
over Washington, and two games that really count are underway.
It's Cardinals at Giants one to one on the top
of the four, three and ten. Justin Verlander the starter
for San Francisco, which has lost seven of nine. They're
three games out of the final NL wildcard. The Padres
can clinch a playoff for birth with a victory at

(29:46):
home tonight, but they're losing three to one to Milwaukee
in the top of the fourth. The Brewers clinch the
NL Central title yesterday. They should finish as the number
one overall seed for the playoffs. The Reds have won
five in a row. They're idle. They do now own
the last NL wildcard because they had the tiebreaker over
the slumping Mets, and MLB owners approved the sale of
the Tampa Bay Rays for one point seven billion dollars.

(30:07):
It should be finalized this week. Back to you, Thank you,
Steve O.

Speaker 1 (30:10):
Don't forget this show sponsored by DraftKings sportsbook and official
sports betting partner of the NFL. Right now, use the
promo code JSS to claim your special offer of DraftKings again.
That's promo code JSS at DraftKings. JSS At DraftKings, the
crown is yours. So twenty eight twenty one your Lions score.
They lead the Ravens right now, early in the fourth quarter,

(30:33):
but Baltimore is driving. They are now in the red zone.
We'll have more on this game coming up in a
few minutes. But there's predictions and there's me getting the
Caleb Williams Fantasy prediction of last week. I told you, Etsy, Buddy,
I told you what the Bears. Everything was going to
be fine this week. I told you Caleb Williams is
going to roll over the Cowboys secondary. He's gonna be

(30:55):
the number one Fantasy quarterback of the week. What happened.
Caleb Williams rolls over the Cowboy is number one Fantasy
quarterback of the week. I am the Caleb Williams whisper
I'm gonna paint my nails, I'm gonna hug my mom,
I'm gonna do all kinds of cool stuff because I
am the Caleb Williams whisperer.

Speaker 4 (31:12):
I'm with you, Yeah, yeah, I mean, look, how excited
are you? You know what what we've been doing with
Pete fu Tech for weeks?

Speaker 3 (31:18):
Right, I believe in this, but I don't believe in
that right in terms of of a player or a
coach versus the team or whatever.

Speaker 4 (31:25):
With the Bears. I believe in the player and coach.

Speaker 3 (31:28):
Yes, the team still needs to finish, but for one day,
one day and all. Hey, and at the Wieners Circle,
I've not gotten a response from him yet.

Speaker 4 (31:37):
I'm trying to see if they will ship us out
some hot dogs.

Speaker 3 (31:41):
Because tomorrow they had posted on social media if Caleb
throws four touchdowns free hot dogs on Tuesday.

Speaker 1 (31:48):
Hey, we're gonna have hot dogs every week this year.

Speaker 4 (31:50):
He's throwing for four touchdowns. But I think about how
brilliant it is.

Speaker 3 (31:53):
It goes back to those promotions that Taco Bell did
during the World Series, because who the hell goes to
Taco Bell for a single time?

Speaker 1 (32:01):
You eat fourteen just like a taco anything else, napkins,
no drink water. Oh I do need some sauce. Okay,
that'll be a dollar nine. Pull around to the front,
thank you.

Speaker 3 (32:14):
But you know what I mean, like most folks, you're
gonna go in. Likewise, you're going to the Wiener Circle.
They're at least getting you for a large Soapah we
got but they they owned it up immediately.

Speaker 4 (32:25):
Hey, we're doing it tuesday, all right.

Speaker 3 (32:26):
It's kind of like that promotion we had with the
Brewers a while back. But but we look at Caleb
Williams in his post game, he addressed it free hot
dogs for folks, and we knew that the secondary for
the Cowboys is just terrible. We watched Russell Wilson had
that monster game in Week two, So I didn't worry
about the Bears offense. Did I think they'd hit that
level of efficiency with big plays? Maybe he was four

(32:50):
for four of things. Oh, I did, because I knew
the Cowboys. The Cowboys defense is jump at that level.

Speaker 1 (32:55):
But you also got that defensive line is no good
and their secondary is no good, and they.

Speaker 4 (33:00):
Need to put press you.

Speaker 1 (33:01):
If you force Caleb Williams into a ton of pressure,
He's not at the point in his career yet where
I can get outside the box, get to my secondary
and tertiary reads and make plays. So that was a
big thing. And of course, if your secondary can hang
with your receivers, you have some pretty good talent downfield.
Right Lovelin was looked like he was gonna have a
good game before he got hurt. They didn't have DJ

(33:22):
Moore wasn't even a part of the offense really until
the fourth quarter, and still Roma Dunes they looked like
he's coming. Caleb Williams. I've told you from the beginning.
Now again the Bears is another thing, right, but Williams
was gonna be fine. He's with a coach that's gonna
get the best version of him. And yeah, Caleb Williams
is gonna be streaky, right, That's the thing. Caleb Williams
is not gonna be one of those guys where every

(33:42):
week I'll go for two hundred yards and dal I'll
give you, you know, a touchdown. He's gonna be streaky.
He's gonna give you weeks like this, but then you're
gonna get some weeks where hey boy, really not a
great week, but still being able to make plays. He
has flashed way more than any other quarterback outside of
Jayden Daniels the last couple of years talking about new
guys to come into the league. He has flashed so much.

(34:03):
He has all the talent you need. His first three
weeks this year, twenty five other teams in the NFL
would take Caleb Williams first three weeks this year. He
has been able to move the football, He's been able
to make plays with his legs. He's been able to
get guys involved down the field. Now suddenly o'doonsay is
a big weapon. Now it's not just DJ Moore, And
maybe we'll try to figure stuff out. But Caleb, wait,

(34:24):
he's gonna be streaky. You're gonna get games where it's like,
oh man, Caleb had a bad gat But you know what,
that's how gunslingers are.

Speaker 7 (34:29):
Right.

Speaker 1 (34:29):
No one always said, oh man, Brett farv one touchdown,
three picks, got to get rid of him. No, but
that's the way it is. For Caleb Williams. I told
you he's gonna be fine. Ben Jonson's the right guy
for him. That's gonna work. Now the rest of it again,
you're right, the rest of it that's different. But put
to the cowboys are terrible, and Caleb Williams was good
and he's gonna be good, and you got the right guy.

Speaker 4 (34:48):
Yeah, when you look, I had no doubt.

Speaker 3 (34:51):
It's all just a matter of patience, right again, and
pragmatism and the voice of reason. Here for those that
have missed it, this is the h quick synopsis of
a much longer rant from earlier in the year.

Speaker 4 (35:04):
It's growing into a guy.

Speaker 3 (35:06):
That he's never had to be at USC and certainly
last year in Chicago, where it was just go out
and try something, do something, even if it's wrong, and he.

Speaker 4 (35:16):
Took a lot of sacks.

Speaker 3 (35:17):
Well yesterday as the first time that's the cleanest his
damn Jersey has ever looked.

Speaker 4 (35:22):
Zero sacks on the day.

Speaker 3 (35:24):
So you take the victory lap in that regard, But
in terms of working under center, play action from under center,
and operating to that level of efficiency of timing and rhythm,
that's never been part of his game. It wasn't what
he was asked to do, and that's what Ben Johnson's
whole offense is predicated on. That doesn't happen in two

(35:45):
to three weeks. Now, you got the perfect opponent this week.
The drive that I loved most was the nineteen play
seventy six drive that goes ten minutes long.

Speaker 4 (35:56):
You give me a couple of those mixed in. Now.

Speaker 3 (35:59):
The players don't love it, And yes, it's the potential
for absolute chaos to happen because you're expecting at least
one penalty that's going to screw up the whole thing.
But when you can execute one of those, that's when
as a coach you're starting to feel pretty good about
it because now you're being bullies, right. Flash plays are
going to be there. You knew Caleb with his athleticism,
he's going to get a roll out. He's got a

(36:20):
big arm. You're gonna get some splash plays. But when
you can also play bully ball, even if you don't
have that a list number one running back, which they
really don't in Swift, but they were able to do
it yesterday. Ainteam play Drive, Yeah, that's the one I'm
hanging my hat on. I love the explosive touchdowns play
and the fact that guys are standing all alone in

(36:40):
the end zone.

Speaker 4 (36:41):
That's great.

Speaker 3 (36:42):
But if they could play bully ball too and start
to pull the strings that way, it'll save that defense
a bit as well.

Speaker 1 (36:48):
Exit about a Fresca Exit swalling down The Jason Smith
Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. Coming up next,
we'll have more football. Everything is good for the Bears.
Bears the one NFL superstar I've really had enough with
after yesterday. Had enough with this guy after yesterday. It's
coming up next, Jason to Mike Fox Sports Radio. This
isn't just a game, It's a once in a generation event.

Speaker 4 (37:32):
Derrick Henry fumbled. DJ Reed got it. Lions are in
the Red Zona again.

Speaker 3 (37:40):
Oh no, but if you bet the over, you're feeling
all right at twenty eight twenty four, you're probably gonna
get some points out of this. A field goal that
may have not been good, crazy, but now the Ravens
have just given the football back to the Lions. Aiden
Hutchinson just knocks the ball out of Derek Heeney's arms.

Speaker 1 (38:03):
The Lions recovered. DJ Reid picks it up from behind.
Hutchinson gets him in the backfield and the Lions recover.
So now up twenty eight to twenty four, they have
the football at the Ravens eighteen yard line. Derrick Henry
comes off the field and slams his helmet onto the bench,
as this looked like a play that was just Dereck

(38:25):
Henry's gonna take a sweep wide and Hutchinson just doesn't
really go crazy with the with the punch, just kind of,
you know, goes like I'm gonna bring him down, and
the ball just squirts out. And now the Lions have
it up for midway through the fourth quarter. Now we're
going to talk about a different story here, but we
want to talk about this because this is more breaking news.

(38:47):
So the Ravens kick a field goal to make the
score twenty eight to twenty four. Except, boy, it sure
didn't look like it was good live and even watching
replays on the internet on social media, it's hard to
tell that this kick was good. Now, the one angle
that they show you from the ground up, I feel

(39:09):
okay that they called it a good field goal because
it looks like maybe it's just sort of dovetailing in
between the uprights before it goes way left.

Speaker 4 (39:18):
One of those where if we extend the uprights, yeah
to the.

Speaker 1 (39:21):
Sky, they're gonna have that'll be the new rule of this.
We're gonna make the uprights fifteen feet taller because really
it comes in above the upright, and you know the
official is right there and it's not a reviewable play,
but boy, it's sure as hell. Was difficult to see
that because I thought it was no good. The Lions
are screaming no good, and even you see a couple
of Ravens fans behind the goalpost going, oh, like they

(39:44):
missed the field goal. But the.

Speaker 4 (39:48):
Call of good is made.

Speaker 1 (39:49):
And I didn't like the call until I saw that
one angle rise that okay, there potentially it looks like
it was good, potentially because the other ones, I'm like,
oh man, I went from I don't know, I don't know,
I don't know. Then I saw a dig lison okay
that I can see where maybe it just hooks in.

Speaker 4 (40:05):
Yeah, Because live.

Speaker 3 (40:06):
Action play by play is going on, you and I
are having the conversation about the greatness of the Chicago
Bears in week three and the free hot dogs to
be gluttonized by the city of Chicago. But the kick
went up and we're looking at each other. They just
tacked three points on the board. It's like, are they
did they make a graphics error? Like we're waiting for
the exchange and that you know, we're gonna have a

(40:29):
spot change of possession, and insteads like, no, that actually
was good, and we start watching the replays and again
it's the all right, like extend it at was it
over the top of the goal post? Call stands on.
Here we are, twenty eight, twenty four, as the the
Ravens defense tries to hold up three straight weeks, Derrick
Henry's fumbled. Yeah, he still has a lot of juice

(40:51):
in his legs. You're just getting He's got to go
to Tiki Barber's school and hold the football.

Speaker 1 (40:56):
You can't pour the juice on your arms before you
go out there and carry the football, because then it's
gonna it's going to just pop out there and just
pop out look at you. So the Lions now have
the football six and a half to go in the
fourth quarter with a twenty eight to twenty four lead.
It looks like they'll be kicking a field goal. They
had a penalty that pushed them out back past the
thirty yard line, So now this the fumble could wind

(41:18):
up being a three point turn instead of a ten
point or a three point sead of a seven point mistake,
which would put it within a two score game. But
now it looks like a field goal at best. It's
still going to be a seven point game with six
and a half left to do.

Speaker 4 (41:29):
An opportunity on a big run play.

Speaker 3 (41:32):
You had an obvious face mask, one of those where
you get your hands up calling for the call while
the guy's still engaging and twisting your neck like, hey,
I better.

Speaker 4 (41:41):
Get this call right here.

Speaker 3 (41:43):
Unfortunately, right where the ball carrier was, which meant the
eyes of the official drew the flag. Because we've seen
a couple of players over the course of the second
half that we're just shaking our heads. Good, I'm not
sure we're watching the same game as the officials at
different points.

Speaker 1 (41:57):
Forty five yard field goal by the Lions is good
as set point lead will have more on the field
goal than may have not been a field goal. Coming
up next, Jason and Mike Football Monday continues this as
