Speaker 1 (00:29):
Greetings, Welcome inside, Happy Tuesday, The Jason Smith Show with
my base friend Mike Harmon.

Speaker 3 (00:36):
Well dressed coboat.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
Well, the cup is in the building, and I got
to think. We're twenty minutes away from the Panthers going
back to back. They lead the Oilers three nothing, Sam
Ryan Hard two goals. Matthew could Chuck with a goal.
This is what the Panthers do every time they could.
Chuck scores, Ryan Hart scores. It's it's just been a
machine for the last two years, and in twenty minutes
a game time, they're.

Speaker 4 (01:13):
Gonna be hoisting the Stanley Cup skinner.

Speaker 5 (01:16):
That's kind of what the announcers were doing on that
third goal. Doesn't bother to get the glove up, not screened,
should have had a clean look at it.

Speaker 4 (01:25):
I don't know that I've ever heard a broadcast.

Speaker 5 (01:27):
Team on a final call ever a this arrate a
player like that. They went on for about ten minutes
of how horridly he'd let his teammates down, and how
they needed him already down to nothing to come up
with a big effort.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
And how poor that one, Like, wow, here he's dead,
he's already dead. My god, you don't think that guy
you watched him just put his head down. He was
like Superman. He could have bored holes into the ice
with the way he felt in the moment. And then
the call, it's like, hey, let's play that back for him.
That's the part where he died right there.

Speaker 4 (02:08):
Right here.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
Watch we make Gretzky's head bleed right here, see and
again right here. Here's the replay right here, you know,
and the funny thing is right like, you know, I
go on with with our guys in Edmonton, you know,
once in a while. And I went on with them
in advance of this game and we were talking about
it and then and and you know, I said, okay,
you know, hey, you know, outsider, you know, how do
you how do you look at things? You know, because
obviously at Edmonton they're they're so wrapped up. And I said, well,

(02:30):
I said, you need to score the first goal of
the game once in a while. And yeah, yeah, no,
I know, I know, And I said, and honestly, I
the the goalie, the goal the goalie situation right now.
I think Bill Ranford might be your best shot, or
maybe dress up McDavid and put him in goal. And
like like they kind of blew that off. They were like, well,
there's a lot of mistakes and a lot of breakdowns

(02:50):
going on, and I think that's what it.

Speaker 4 (02:52):
Is with with Edmonton. And I go, yeah, okay, I
get that, you know, and I.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
Understand that, but I'm like, outsider, when you have two
goalies and neither of them are confident either, we're playing, well,
how many games you're really gonna win?

Speaker 4 (03:02):
Right?

Speaker 1 (03:02):
Like, I mean, you know, they're going back and forth,
but you know, between the two and they go back
to Skinner tonight, and obviously that hasn't worked so far.

Speaker 4 (03:09):
And it's by me. I don't know what you expect
when when.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
Neither goalie is playing well and you have changed goalie
anytime you have to change goalies more than once in
the playoff, Okay, it's good because you're playing, but it's
bad because that series you're not gonna win.

Speaker 4 (03:21):
Like they've now it's been like three times.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
We're going Skinner, then we go back, then we go
back to Skipper and and that's just never gonna work.
And you can see it now. The Oilers are not
playing with confidence. Defensively, you could tell Skinner's not playing
with confidence, none of them the goalie wise in this series,
the Panthers, that's been out everything the Oilers, and especially
when when you want to sit there and throw the

(03:43):
puck in front of the net and there's not a
lot of activity and it's pretty easy for Ryan Hart
or or Kachuk to come in and just you know,
dump the puck into the net. That's a really bad
recipe right there.

Speaker 5 (03:54):
Well, just watching you know the first periods, obviously getting
out to fast starts, but Defensively, it was like when
we're watching the NBA Finals and throughout the playoffs, right,
go back to your knick squad, What was the hallmark? Well,
I kind of reached for the ball, but I didn't
move my feet. Defensively, it seems like Edmonton's doing a
lot of that as well, trying to get the poke check,
thinking that they're going to get the big breakout opportunity,

(04:17):
and instead they're giving up shots on goal and big rushes.

Speaker 4 (04:21):
Uh. And look, Skinner's not played well.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (04:24):
They've had a couple of other opportunities where they've let
him down and walked into where he's at least kept
it at bay a little bit, but overall just not
matching the overall effort of the the Florida Panthers. And
this one looks like it's it's baked man. That we
get to see the cup tonight and then maybe tomorrow

(04:44):
the Larry O'Brien and then it becomes.

Speaker 1 (04:46):
All about remember another day we've got You've got a
few more days the game.

Speaker 4 (04:51):
Sorry, yeah, that's Thursday right now. It's Thursday. They might
push that to Saturday if they made that that.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
I don't know that that's gonna actually be a game
they play, they may push out another. Would that help
hallim Burton and the narratives around him or I don't know,
although it's just another couple of days of Kevin Durant
speculation or what have you. Well, here's the thing, like,
if Caitlyn Clark plays, I think they might push the game.
Oh hey wait, wait the Fever play. Yeah, people in Indiana

(05:20):
aren't gonna watch that. They're gonna okay, yeah, let's we
have to play in a non Fever day. That's where
the finals are right now, are the Fever playing? We
have to schedule around the Fever. Then people are gonna watch. Yeah, no,
I mean look, I was just laughing.

Speaker 5 (05:31):
I was watching a case opening of a new Marvel
product and they came out with this cool die cut
thing that has like the Wolverine clause going through it.

Speaker 4 (05:39):
We saw some of that in the Fever game tonight.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
Pup around the face, in the face, look at this
cut I've got here.

Speaker 3 (05:48):
I know.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
By the way, Caitlyn Clark again Tonight twenty points. Tonight
for the Fever did not play a ton of minutes
twenty nine minutes because the Fever had this game in
hand Againstnecticut's son. So she goes twenty and four out
of six from three point range. And I'll tell you
what do you want to talk about the difference in
Caitlyn Clark this season. The biggest difference that I have
seen Obviously she's stronger. People want to talk about that,

(06:10):
and I get it, and I understand, right, you want
to talk about how strong she is, how strong she looks.
That's going to obviously, that's going to help her and
help her get to the rack and help. But the
biggest thing that I have seen so far in the
hoop as well is that good analysis there. When she
shoots from three, she makes a lot of them. She's
only had a couple of games shot part you were right,

(06:32):
but like three point she was a volume three point
shooter last year, right, and then she's always been She's
always taken a lot of threes. But in college, okay
makes a fair amount of them. Right, I had a
pretty good but last year she was a volume three
point shooter. That's the one thing I could take away say, Okay,
that's one things she got to improve from year one
to year two is that you can't just go you know,
you can't shoot fifteen threes a game and go four
for fifteen, Right, you have to have a better percentage

(06:54):
from three, and so far she's had that, right, She's
she's eleven of twenty from three point range, and she
come back from injury. She had a couple of big
games before she got hurt as well, So that's been
the biggest thing. And now that she's making threes, like,
look out, like, like, what are.

Speaker 4 (07:08):
You gonna do?

Speaker 1 (07:08):
Because before you can at least sag off of her
if she's I'll give you the threes, because yeah, I'll
give you the one miracle one that you make from
the logo if you're gonna miss the next six, right, Like,
I'm okay with that. But now if she's hitting them
from three, suddenly, defensively she's got more of the floor.

Speaker 4 (07:22):
To operate on. Watch out.

Speaker 5 (07:24):
Yeah, we talked about how it improved. This roster is
than the depth and there's no there's no let down. Right,
we watched in all playoffs where all right, second unit
comes in, how much you're gonna give back versus can
you build on the lead?

Speaker 4 (07:40):
Sustain it?

Speaker 5 (07:41):
And this fever team depth giving them that opportunity to
just sit the other is at some point you got
to put her in bubble wrap because it started off
it's like, ah, you know what they're gonna officiate this. Well,
that was the most clown show officiating I think I've
seen in any sport, going all the way down to
youth soccer and softball. Man, you got people raking across
the eyes, getting chesty, and then at the end they

(08:04):
just decide, ah, the hell with it, let's throw everybody out, Like,
how is.

Speaker 4 (08:07):
That worse than what you saw before? You let it go?

Speaker 1 (08:12):
And and again the official in the the broadcasting, just
like with the NHL game, like all right, now we're
now we're attacking the officials and getting after them during
what was an interminable I think seven minute review on
a Cunningham file, which was well, yeah, it was over
the top and two arms coming down as she braced

(08:34):
for the giant elbow that was about to be thrown
at her by Sheldon, who had already been into it
with Caitlin Clark. But yeah, it was, uh, it was interesting.
And you just watched the Caitlin Clark lip reading of
I can do whatever the blank I want because you
can't stop me. The people are like this is you
know we talk about you know, we talk about, hey,

(08:55):
so and so was on a middle Finger tour this year, right,
like like they're they're they're amput. Like Ratha Devers is
clearly going to be in a middle Finger tour of
the Red Sox run now that.

Speaker 4 (09:03):
He wants, he wants to play wherever.

Speaker 1 (09:05):
You wait, what but like certain times you get Okay,
there's players on middle Finger tours or a team on
a middle Finger tour where hey, everybody's you know, nobody
liked us, but look at what we're doing in the postseason.
Right you could say the Pacers are kind of on
a middle Finger tour right now, just because people are
picking other teams that aren't them to win series where
the other teams are all better going on the series.

(09:26):
But like you see that, like you see the middle
Finger tour, Okay, you get it because usually that's someone
who feels like they've been disrespected, they've been overlooked, and
they use that as motivation.

Speaker 4 (09:34):
All of this. I'm telling you, we talked about it
a little bit last night.

Speaker 1 (09:38):
Nobody is ready for the Caitlin Clark middle Finger tour
that she is going to have this season.

Speaker 4 (09:44):
That she is.

Speaker 1 (09:44):
Already out to and you know that she was just
dying inside having to miss those two weeks. She was
she was ready, right, I'm ready. I've done everything i
need to do to get better this season. I've gotten bigger,
I'm hitting my threes. I cannot wait at all. Everybody
in this league that's Kaitlyn Clark is overrated. Kaitlyn Clark's
not the league. And there's other players just as good. Yeah,

(10:05):
you watch right. I always say the line from Billions,
the big line. Hate, hate is an endless amount of inspiration.
You can't, you cannot. It never goes empty, right, Like
Bobby says that every everything you if you can get
spurred on by hate. It's an endless resource. And this
is one of those. There's so many haters out there,

(10:26):
Like she's got tons of fans, obviously, because look at
the way people watch the games. And again we told
you she was magic and Larry of the WNB, and
she's both of these players. But boy, she is definitely
on one of those. Okay, you think I can't do
something you wanna, I am gonna make you understand and
make you I'm gonna make you quit hating. That's always
the biggest thing when you can see a player make

(10:47):
a team quit.

Speaker 4 (10:48):
We made that team quit. They were done.

Speaker 1 (10:49):
She is gonna make people quit hating her, and that's
gonna be the tour she is on this season for
the Fever in the w NBA. Just watch well other
The other part of it is maybe they hate her
more and it becomes the I I embrace the villainy.

Speaker 4 (11:02):
You don't like my game too bad? Stop me? You know,
you become the anti hero, you become Walter White.

Speaker 1 (11:10):
Well she no, but she but thinking she's so popular,
but the haters are so vocal that it almost seems
like she's as hated as she is popular, which is
not even close. I mean you look at the ratings,
you look at what people are watching the w NBA,
and then when she wasn't playing, people weren't watching as much.
Like she's the show, right, But it makes it seem
like there's more because oh, everybody gets their news from

(11:30):
social media, which, oh, by the way, is a horrible
place to get your news from.

Speaker 4 (11:33):
But whatever, and so degrees of senel.

Speaker 5 (11:36):
As we found out with the last bit of Indiana
Fever news in the Indiana in the Indie Star, with
the posts that they had to four oh four error
it realizing that they'd been so it makes.

Speaker 1 (11:48):
It seem like, oh she has no, she doesn't. It's
just the people want to hate on Twitter. Look, Twitter
is a really difficult place, and social media is a
really difficult place, as you see going on there every day.
But it makes it seem like there's a lot and
there really isn't. But it's still fuel for a player,
for all players who use stuff like this, Like if
Tyre's Halliburton did this, he was motivated like this every game.

Speaker 4 (12:08):
My goodness, how good he would be. Oh it's too soon,
too soon for Alerburt and that Mike. I'm sorry, it's
two soon. I don't know.

Speaker 5 (12:14):
You want to post something to see how he responds tomorrow,
see if we can get that trending and get him salty.
By the way, they are competing in the w NBA
Commissioner's Cup. Yes it is today for that five hundred
thousand dollars prize pool and other benefits, yeah, Telly, and
other benefits.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
You could tell by the by the floor, right, that's
just look at the floor. No, it's the commissioner stuff.

Speaker 4 (12:38):
It's brought to you by Coinbase. There you go.

Speaker 1 (12:43):
I'm telling you nobody is ready for this, for for
the tour Caitlin Clark, the destruction.

Speaker 4 (12:49):
Tour that she is going to have this season.

Speaker 1 (12:51):
Nobody's ready for Miguel either, nobody, nobody stop him.

Speaker 4 (12:55):
You can only help him. No, no, no, you can't.

Speaker 1 (12:57):
And and the game that the Mets were uh four
to one, and I'm putting that in the wind column. Nope,
Ozuna with a double brings in three runs, Mets in
the Braves now tied for four in the top of
the night. So he cleared the bases, right, Yip be skippy, yay, hooray, Yes, yes.

Speaker 4 (13:14):
He did, Yes he did. Yes, Yes, my internet's done.
I'm just ask that's okay, that's okay. I still look
at the standings and see the Mets with a better
recue Dodgers, so that's okay.

Speaker 1 (13:23):
And we also beat the Dodgers more times than you
beat us this year.

Speaker 4 (13:26):
So I'm Mets fan would say that does that carry over? Okay?

Speaker 6 (13:31):
Uh?

Speaker 4 (13:32):
It does? Well.

Speaker 1 (13:32):
Listen, it's gonna be just like the NLCS. Mets in
seven here, Mets in seven in the fall. That's how
it's gonna be.

Speaker 5 (13:38):
Can you get odds on that. Now, great, I was
gonna say, you see what kind of odds you get?
You should go walk into a casino with a pile
of money and just say, I'd like to bet it
on this.

Speaker 1 (13:50):
You give me some odds, you can get unbelievable odds
on this.

Speaker 4 (13:54):
Right, the real bet he makes will be the first.
Uh stop.

Speaker 1 (13:57):
You know how much money Harmon has made off of
my advice with Betsy's.

Speaker 3 (14:02):
Bets.

Speaker 1 (14:03):
He's where he's wearing like Jordan's from nineteen eighty four
that he got you.

Speaker 4 (14:07):
Thino cares if it's your idea.

Speaker 1 (14:09):
I'm just say one number one, my feet aren't wide
enough for those Jordans number two.

Speaker 4 (14:18):
And number three where we've still put a swosh on sandals.

Speaker 1 (14:22):
No, he just you know, you just pull the bottom
out so it's instead of the padding, it's just you're
right on the sneaker now that the sneaker is really comfortable.

Speaker 4 (14:29):
That's what I did see. I got someone to customize
the ease so I could wear them.

Speaker 1 (14:34):
Whoa, hey, hey, hey, hey, we're not in safe harbor yet, Frost.

Speaker 4 (14:37):
But we're not there. Why not we're not in safe
harbor yet? We got to wait a little bit. I
can't see East coast. Well, not that, No, you can't.
You can say ozuna if you want to. It's okay,
you know what, It's fine.

Speaker 1 (14:47):
You know what, because we got through the first fifteen minutes,
we didn't really mention something that rhymes with schmockshmimvers.

Speaker 4 (14:52):
So we're okay with that. We're okay.

Speaker 1 (14:53):
Everything is to Yes, We'll keep you posted again. Third period,
underway floor, a nineteen minutes away from the Stanley Cup.
They lead the Oilers three to nothing. I'm serious, Bill,
Ranford and Gold would have been better tonight for Edmonton.
But coming up next, the big NFL headline of the day,
what quarterback says his team will be out for vengeance

(15:17):
against the team that knocked them out of the playoffs
last year. Keep it right here, Jason and Mike, you're
listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 4 (15:24):
I'm so excited.

Speaker 1 (15:25):
Well, we're getting close the big five ozho is in

nearly midway through the third period, Game six of the
Stanley Cup Final. The Panthers lead Edmonton three to nothing.

(17:19):
They are eleven minutes away from hoisting the Stanley Cup
for the second consecutive season. Nearly made it four to
nothing on a couple of times in the last couple
of minutes, but puck out of the net. So still
the Oilers everything they can to try to get on
the board here. At least that would make it interesting
if the Oiler's.

Speaker 4 (17:36):
Got at least one.

Speaker 1 (17:37):
I'm not saying we got to get three, but you know,
one goal, I think that would make things a little interesting.

Speaker 4 (17:41):
Well, either that or can wait at ten minutes.

Speaker 5 (17:44):
Is that when they start just throwing down the gloves
just for giggles, sir, what, well, let's.

Speaker 1 (17:48):
See ten minutes down three. I would say more like
six minutes, maybe six minutes.

Speaker 5 (17:53):
Now we're quibbling, now we're negotiating, but we do agree
that it's imminent.

Speaker 4 (17:58):
Yeah, ten ten.

Speaker 1 (17:59):
Minutes, you still say, well, there's still some time, still
some time. Six minutes, it's okay. Screw it, man, screw it,
blank you blank you blaze. Let's go coach my line
out now, yes, go ahead, all right, let's go.

Speaker 4 (18:09):
If I'm going down, I'm going down swinging.

Speaker 3 (18:11):
Let's go.

Speaker 4 (18:13):
So this is where we're at right now.

Speaker 1 (18:15):
Again, we'll have more on the Stanley Cup final coming
up in a few minutes, but a big story out
of the NFL today because all of a sudden, Lamar
Jackson is on a quest for vengeance.

Speaker 4 (18:27):
Like it's a video game or something.

Speaker 1 (18:29):
He's talking for the first time since the Ravens playoff
lost to Buffalo. That that horrendously bad loss, and you
think about Jackson, the two incomplete passes and the drop passes.

Speaker 4 (18:39):
Oh my goodness.

Speaker 1 (18:41):
This is the first time he has spoken publicly since
that lost to Buffalo, and he admitted he hasn't gotten
over the defeat, he said, but when we come back,
we're gonna have vengeance on our mind. Vengeance. He's got
vengeance on his mind. Says I kind of did that.
I mean Batman said that in the latest film, right, yeah,
oh yeah, yeah.

Speaker 4 (19:01):
Maybe that's what he does.

Speaker 1 (19:02):
Maybe he you know, he has the capon when he
comes out and he says, I am vengeance.

Speaker 4 (19:07):
That's his thing. And those are his T shirts this year.
That'd be pretty good. I like that. Let's work on that.
What I love about this is how he says.

Speaker 1 (19:14):
You know, they asked him about, you know, the loss,
and you know, look, this is an awful loss to them,
to the Bills twenty seven to twenty five. And he
was asked how long it takes him to move on,
and he said, I don't think I get over any losses.
To be honest, I got losses from youth football that's
still haunt me. And while there's the school of thought
that says, dude, come on, man, you're you know, in
the MVP in the NFL a couple of times, and

(19:36):
you're having a great career going to the Hall of Fame.
What no, No, I dig that, he says, I still
have youth football playoff losses that haunt me.

Speaker 4 (19:44):
I get that because.

Speaker 1 (19:45):
As a youth coach, there's losses and I'm gonna think
about the rest of my life.

Speaker 4 (19:49):
My team's I Meanwhile, the.

Speaker 1 (19:50):
Girls I coach, they forgot about him fifteen minutes after
the game.

Speaker 4 (19:53):
Okay, well we're moving ice Creer. No, no, no, no no.

Speaker 1 (19:56):
There's games that I I'm gonna think about it this
and if this happen, happened, if this happened. So I
dig that, he says, Hey, I got losses from youth
football that still haunt me. I like, because I have
times that I lost games even when I was playing,
not even just coaching, which is just the last few years.

Speaker 4 (20:12):
Like when I was playing, which was you know, forty
years ago, thirty years ago.

Speaker 1 (20:15):
I'm like, hey, I remember that game off, we had
won this game, Remember doing this, Remember doing this?

Speaker 4 (20:19):
Remember doing that? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (20:20):
I dig that, man, I dig that he's got that
as motivation. Well, my favorite was the follow up when
they were talking to t Martin. Yeah that tea Martin
go go Vaal's Ravens quarterback coach, and asked were they
were talking about what he did this offseason in prep?

Speaker 3 (20:35):
Uh?

Speaker 5 (20:35):
Lamar Jackson and what he watched film wise, and the
only thing he watched was losses.

Speaker 4 (20:40):
What did I do wrong? Where did I screw up?
And how do I get better from it?

Speaker 5 (20:46):
But you don't lose a lot of games, That means
there's a lot of time for other things. Either that
or you're really harping on that log.

Speaker 1 (20:52):
Yeah, yeah, percent Hey, listen, this is how time you
watch that play seventy two.

Speaker 4 (20:58):
I just keep watching it over and over and over.

Speaker 1 (21:00):
And you know, and that's the funny thing is like
when I because I remember when I when I played,
and I played and I played hockey, and I played softball,
and I played it a you know, a couple of
high level softball.

Speaker 4 (21:10):
He's been still high level softball.

Speaker 1 (21:11):
But I played hockey competitively and and in my life
as an adult, like when I played in these games,
and and you know, we won a lot, right, Like
we won a lot We won in hockey, we won
in softball. But if if you just put me like
a sensory deprivation tank and came out and said, hey,
when you think of you know, softball and hockey, what
do you think of And the first thing that would
come to mind is is a couple of times where

(21:33):
we lost, right, Like the losses still kind of like, ah,
we should have won that, We should have won that game. Meanwhile,
like I said, I won a lot, right, Like I
played in one league as my biggest league.

Speaker 4 (21:41):
We won like five times in seven years.

Speaker 1 (21:43):
And I think about the two years we didn't win,
and I think about, oh, this game right here in
the semi finals we lost. We lost in the championship
in this game, we should have won. Like that's what
I think of, Like it's weird, you know. So I
and I completely get behind the whole.

Speaker 3 (21:56):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (21:56):
I hate losing more than I love winning. And that's
a difference because I the fact that that's what would
come to my mind. I dig that, and I dig
that about Lamar Jackson. Oh there's no question about it, right,
I mean, and on every level, there's there's always that
that extra piece of which is the game that that
you remember. It's it's not all the wins, it's the
one play that did you in. Maybe they would kill

(22:18):
off a perfect season.

Speaker 5 (22:20):
Maybe the one throw that that you can't get back
for that guy that was finishing his run. We could
have gotten that guy into the end zone. Or or
gotten him a goal and and all of.

Speaker 1 (22:30):
That, like like my daughter's horrible with it, like they win,
like all right, day at the office they tie salty
that it was a waste of two hours of time.

Speaker 4 (22:41):
Loss, just wasted two hours? Why didn't even come out
of here? Nil? Nil? What do we even do? You
know we got an exercise TV? Why did I do that?
That's terrible? Uh.

Speaker 1 (22:57):
But speaking of Lamar Jackson, the Quest for Venge's joining
us now on the hot line. Longtime NFL insider check
them out on Odyssey, Washington Post, and one oh five
seven the Fan in Baltimore, where I'm sure he spent
a lot of time on his show today talking about
the Lamar Jackson Quest for Vengeance. It's Jason locking for
what's happening, Bud.

Speaker 3 (23:16):
Going on gentlemen Quest for Vengeance?

Speaker 1 (23:19):
Huh the Quest for were you like you don't rob
because he's robbed in the MVP. I'm picturing you guys
like with swords and chalices today. Yes, and Lamar Jackson
the Quest for Vengeance for the season.

Speaker 3 (23:34):
Yeah. Look, I mean I think they're one of the
three best rosters, or certainly five best rosters in football.
Big so the rare team that has a head coach
currently employed who's won it all. They've got a multiple
time MVP quarterback, and it really should have been three

(23:55):
and two in a row, and yet they found ways
to undermine themself when it matters most in January to
this point, during the really entirety of the Lamar Jackson era,
you can go back to, you know, when it started
the first game against the then San Diego I think
they were still San Diego Chargers. Then the year he

(24:18):
took over for Flaco, you can go to the following
year where they've got a Tennessee team they should have
beat at home comfortably that blew them out, and like
it just hasn't happened for them, So, you know, vengeance
or I don't know how to best characterize it, but
certainly it's been a series of missed opportunities in which

(24:38):
they have succumbed to turnovers and they have not been
able to make plays on defense, and up until recently,
they were coming up short on offense as well, although
I don't think that's really going to be a concern anymore. So, Yeah, look,
I think if Lamar Jackson healthy, they're going to win.
I don't know, thirteen ish games, and they probably to

(25:00):
win that division and they'll have a chance to go
to the super Bowl and we'll see whether they take
advantage of it or not.

Speaker 5 (25:06):
Now you feel sorry for Joe Burrow at any point
for the nonsense that the Bengals put him through a season.

Speaker 3 (25:13):
We knew it, you know, we talked about it really
from the moment their season ended, and I'm like, this
guy is going to go on an off season campaign
the likes of which we've never seen before to basically
try to shame Mike Brown and doing the right thing.
And sure enough, that happened, and it happened all the
way through Super Bowl media week or you know, radio

(25:34):
row and all that stuff, and he got what he
needed on the offense. Mostly, I still think the offensive
line will leaves something to be desired. Defensively, there's a
lot of work still to be done, and it's it's
hard to withhold your services for a meaningful part of
the season. The way this CBA is structured. We all
know that it's one of the many things this league accomplishment.

(25:57):
They took the Collective Bargaining Agreement that was already heavily
weighted in their favorite prior to two thousand and nine
and then really got you know, plenty of key concessions
to I think make it even more weighted in their favor.
So he's going to play a fair amount of football
for them this year, Henderson. But like even if he
misses a few games, and even if that just causes

(26:19):
the vibes there, which are never right in September to
be even more skewy screwy. And they managed to lose
to a team they have no business losing too, like
they've lost in New England to start last season. That
can be the different I mean that three difference between
going to the playoffs and not. So Look, I think
with Joe Burrow re up with those guys, he knew
that they're not the most progressive for you know, forward

(26:44):
thinking organization in the history of the world. He's trying
to sort of drag them into the twenty first century,
and he's had a fair amount of success. But they
screwed themselves by allowing all those contracts situation suffessor as
long as they did, and it was never they were
never going to get them all done easily and smoothly.

(27:06):
And now they still have worked to.

Speaker 1 (27:07):
Do NFL inside of Jason Locking for our guest, the
Jason Smithster with Mike Carmon.

Speaker 4 (27:13):
All right, so I love this story.

Speaker 1 (27:15):
Today out of New York, Brian Dable nothing but rave
reviews for Jackson Dart.

Speaker 4 (27:20):
He fits right in. He's smart, he's aggressive. I like it.

Speaker 1 (27:24):
Obviously he's got it, you know, when the football's fly
for real. But Jay, how long until Jackson Dart takes
over for Russell Wilson Week four, Week six?

Speaker 4 (27:33):
We need like how long until that happens?

Speaker 3 (27:37):
I think it really depends on how good the defense is.
Russell Wilson needs certain things to go to be in
place for him to be able to keep a team,
you know, in contention on the fringe of contention. And
we saw that with Pitchberg. And then as soon as
that defense went from being elite to dropping and Watt
started missing more time than he was playing than it

(27:59):
all kind of collapse right from the inside. And I
think that has the potential to be a very impactful,
disruptive d line, you know, Like I mean, it's really
early to be looking at early lines, but and like
I think they're going to give the Commandos some trouble
in that game, and so they might be able to

(28:20):
get off to a fast start time of like Pittsburgh
last year. And I get it, it was Fields the
first six games and not r Us, but it's a
similar sort of script. But yeah, I mean, look, there's
going to reach a point where it's clear that that
they are still in a rebuild, and then the way
to keep your job and try to maintain it through
the rebuild is to start showing that the young quarterback

(28:41):
is better than the other ones. And as you know,
the kind of potential they think he has, it's still
a bit of a risky proposition. For me. I'm far
from sold that that kid's going to be ready for
the bright lights of that city as quickly as he
might be asked to do it. But you know, Russell

(29:02):
Wilson's good for six to eight weeks and then he's
he's going to hit the wall. That's just where he
is in his career.

Speaker 4 (29:12):
So but but yeah, one last one, boy, Jason.

Speaker 5 (29:16):
As we look at the power structure of the NFL,
you lose a guy to the PGA Tour, does that
mean Roger Goodell is going to be the commissioner forever?

Speaker 3 (29:24):
Well? Look, Brian Roll Up, so a name that you
had heard as possibly the next man up going back
six to eight years back when the rumblings, you know,
two contact extensions to go, when Goidell was letting people,
you know know then that hey, I'm not doing this forever,
and you know they are. This is a hard group
of dudes to try to corral and keep together. And
you know that that had been out there for a

(29:46):
long time, and the strongest internal candidate I had heard
for quite some time, you know, would have been Brian
roll Up or he certainly would have been among them.
And it is clear now that you know, Goodell is
pretty entrenched, and I think he really enjoys trying to
be the guy to make this even more of a
global game and growing the game that way. And once

(30:09):
they add these extra games, there's going to be an
international game probably every week between maybe week three and
I guess week fifteen if they go to eighteen or
something like that. So yeah, I do think that's a
little bit telling that that chair, that seat is not
opening anytime soon. And you know, Brian's a really sharp guy,

(30:32):
and I'm not the biggest golf guy in the world,
but I'm sure it'll be good for the PGA.

Speaker 1 (30:38):
Jason Locking for one oh five seven the fan in Baltimore, Odyssey,
Washington Post Jay as always, Buddy, appreciate it, man, and
good luck.

Speaker 4 (30:47):
Hopefully we get good vibes going for the next USMNT game.

Speaker 3 (30:51):
Well more importantly, let's get a Canada win and a
Jonathan David anytime Gold tonight and we're parlaying that with
the Florida pant we will turn out well for us.

Speaker 1 (31:01):
So we'll see.

Speaker 4 (31:02):
All right.

Speaker 1 (31:04):
There we go follow on Twitter at Jason Locking for
that is at Jason lock and for time Not to
find out what's trending in the wide world of sports.
Is I watch the guy who travels with the Stanley
Cup continue to polish the Stanley Cup because it's going
to be coming out in a few minutes.

Speaker 4 (31:19):
Do you Seger will tell us why? In what's trending?

Speaker 7 (31:22):
By that reference to Canada Soccer, they're on FS one
about to start the Gold Cup game in Vancouver, Canada
against Honduras. US men soccer plays again Thursday in Austin, Texas.
The Gold Cup tournament is on FS one and Fox.
The Americans beat Trinidad five nothing in their opener on Sunday,
and yes, we've got under six minutes left in regulation.

(31:43):
Looks like the Cup will be awarded in Florida tonight.
The Panthers already up three games to two and the
Stanley Cup Final against Edmonton, leading four to nothing in
this game. Sam Reinhardt with three goals in this one,
and he scored unassisted about five minutes into the game.
If this is a shutout, that will stand as the
game winning Cup clinching goal, which he did for Florida

(32:08):
last year in Game seven. Nobody since Mike Bossi of
the Islanders has back to back years had the cup
clinching goal, and of course Bosse goes back over forty years.
But it's four to nothing late Florida at home against
the Edmonton Oilers, and it's looking like still the last
time a Canadian team won the Stanley Cup was nineteen

(32:28):
ninety three.

Speaker 1 (32:29):
And he was my guy growing up Man New York Gotenders. Oh,
he was my guy growing up. I wanted to be
Mike Bossy. From when I was seven until I was
like eleven, I wanted to be Mike boss.

Speaker 7 (32:40):
And that was eighty two eighty three for him with
the clinchers and of course, that was the third and
fourth year in a row they were winning the Stanley
Cup the Isles. Florida was in the final last year
and won the Cup in seven against this Edmonton team,
and the year before Florida made the final lost in
five to Vegas. NBA Finals game will be Thursday at Indiana.

(33:01):
Oklahoma City leads three games to two. Pacers. Guard Tyrese
Haliburton reportedly has a strained calf. Indiana and the WNBA
was a winner over Connecticut, which is two to nine,
eighty eight seventy one Caitlin Clark twenty points, New York
ten and one thirty four points for Sabrina Yinescu in
a New York Liberty win against Atlanta eighty six eighty

(33:22):
one victories from Minnesota which is eleven and one. Dallas
was one and eleven but got a victory, and Washington
won at Chicago seventy nine seventy two Chicago three and eight.
Angel Reese in defeats seventeen points, ten rebounds, seven turnovers.
PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan will step down when his
contract ends next year. In Major League Baseball, the Braves

(33:45):
have just won against the Mets, five in ten innings
sack fly from Austin Riley. The Braves had tied it
bottom of the eighth on a three run double from
marcel Osuna, ruining another good start from David Peterson, who's
era this year is two point six to oh I
five and two for the New York Mets.

Speaker 1 (34:06):
But yeah, this was this was a gut punch, this loss.
This is four to one in the eighth. I'm like,
that's in.

Speaker 4 (34:10):
It's over.

Speaker 5 (34:11):
We're good, and it's said your toddling smith one no,
said Noe, tumbling from that lofty perch that you keep
holding over over Steve and Justin so much.

Speaker 7 (34:21):
And then there's the Yankees who have gone twenty nine.
Ye haven't scoreless Friday, They've been shut out three straight games.
Yankees lost their fifth straight Tonight's at home. Angels beat
him for nothing, because you know who doesn't see Kyle
Hendricks mowing down people at this point of his career.
Aaron Judge was zero for four with three strikeouts. So

(34:43):
gian Carlos Stanton at the Yankee Stadium had two hits.
The rest of his team was two for twenty seven
with twelve strikeouts. Saint Louis a twelve two winner at
the White Sox, who've lost six in a row. Kansas
City had lost six straight but got to win at
Texas six to one. Cubs in Baltimore each one, Cincinnati six'
five over The, twins who've dropped five. Straight toronto with

(35:05):
two solo homers bottom of the, ninth Beat arizona five to,
Four detroit And miami with, wins And colorado hit seven
home runs in a ten to six win At. Washington,
updating it's Now florida five nothing Over edmonton five minutes
laugh back to, You.

Speaker 4 (35:21):
Thank, YOU.

Speaker 1 (35:21):
Steveo The edmonton net was empty again another goal By.
Florida at least they they Put skinner back out. There
so this game should probably end five, nothing.

Speaker 4 (35:31):
But, hey you never.

Speaker 1 (35:32):
Know we are moments away from awarding The Stanley. Cup
at just WHAT i, say it's gonna end five to.
Nothing The oilers, score make it five, one you, know
with four and a half left to, go they break
the shot Of bobrovski's not gonna have a final clinching.
Game so five to One panthers over The oilers under five.

Speaker 4 (35:52):
Minutes left to.

Speaker 1 (35:53):
Go but coming up next are The pacers gonna have

head coach in the, nineties was really.

Speaker 4 (37:14):
Good oh we got pullman, now he said twenty years.

Speaker 1 (37:17):
Ago by here he is best coach of THE nhl
back to Back Stanley cup. Title remember when he was
the youngest coach in THE nhl he was coach of The.

Speaker 4 (37:23):
WHALERS i was, like oh my, goodness, guys what's going on?
Here why Is connor McDavid not?

Speaker 1 (37:27):
Celebrating uh, yeah, Wow frostburg from seems.

Speaker 4 (37:32):
Sad he's full of haterade the.

Speaker 1 (37:34):
Night, yeah as many shots as we're seeing The panthers
Winning connor McDavid on the bench second Consecutive Stanley cup.
Final For connor McDavid's second consecutive, defeat the best player
in THE nhl is, now you, know been in the
league a, Decade i'd been around a, while and yet
still is looking for that First Stanley. Cup and now

(37:55):
this is the, thing right you, know handshake happening right,
Now this is what kind of starts to define. You
connor McDavid had a great run in his great look
he still he is still the best player in.

Speaker 4 (38:06):
Hockey but he's.

Speaker 1 (38:07):
Someone who at some, point all, right, well when you,
achieve when you get, there when you show you're good
enough to get, there all, right then the then the
stakes changed for. You in the last two, years back
to Back Stanley cup finals and up closer to winning last,
year losing in. Seven now you, know they they don't
even make it there this. Time now it starts to
Become connor, McDavid kenny validate and get A Stanley. Cup

(38:28):
that's What that's what happens when the conversation about all
time great players when you move the goalposts on.

Speaker 3 (38:34):
Them.

Speaker 1 (38:34):
Right we talked about this With Caitlyn clark earlier in the,
hour where, okay a great rookie, year rookie of the,
year all these, Said, okay now what has she got
to do? Now now it's going to wind up being
A wnba championship or.

Speaker 4 (38:44):
Bust, oh now she's got to. Win second year of the.
League she's got to. Win but the goalpost get.

Speaker 1 (38:48):
Moved, now the back to Back Stanley cup final and
not a title is going to start to Define connor.
McDavid and it would be the same thing For Wayne,
gretzky you know the first few years in the league
when he took him a wild. Win same thing for
all the great. Players eventually you have to, win, Right
Lebron james had to win at some point if you're
gonna be the, Best, Right Michael jordan had to, Win

(39:09):
Kobe bryant had to. Win all these, guys it gets
to that, point and McDavid is right there, now and
that's become the question of here's the best player in.
Hockey he's got to win, now this is the end
of this. Game as soon as that final buzzer, hit
that becomes the flip for the best player in THE.

Speaker 5 (39:24):
Nhl, well but that's the way it works in, sports.
Right how many conversations do we have about the best to?
Never right when we have these greatest of all time
conversations that folks loved the book of. Lists when we
start talking About Dan, MARINE i was, like, well it
was the best to ever spin it back, then and
then you start throwing up your hands going but and

(39:45):
it's always the reminder of you, know and we'll talk
about this more with the pacers of, yeah just because
you get down to this, path it doesn't mean that
you're gonna walk back in, again, Right so everything's got
to be left on the on the court For david and.
Company you, know they can say what they want about defensive,
lapses and certainly that third goal will live in, infamy

(40:07):
particularly when you pair it with the announcer's. Call but
the fact that you're down to nothing in a blink
of an eye and. Offensively you're not getting off on
the right foot at, all game after game against the.

Speaker 4 (40:19):
Squad and maybe it's just the matchup, problem but the
problem Is florida is not going.

Speaker 1 (40:24):
Anywhere, No and that's the thing is that they have
they have found that great blend of veteran and youth
and solid. Goaltending it's like it's not any one thing
That florida does better than. Everybody it's they just do everything.

Speaker 4 (40:38):
Better.

Speaker 1 (40:39):
Right they always get the timely, goal, right they get
that first goal of, again like Anything florida needs they.
Get it's almost like they made a deal with the. Devil,
hey we want to be the best team in. Hockey
you you make us great at, everything and and then
and then we'll just figure out my eternal.

Speaker 4 (40:54):
Soul after it's all. DONE i was gonna, say what's the?
Payoff then how fast does the devil come to call?

Speaker 1 (40:59):
Out like there's there's No achilles, heel there's no this
is where you have to Fight. Florida they're just. Better
they're just better. Everywhere and and again it's it's a
perfect mix and blend of. Veterans like it's really it's
it's it's tough for me to watch BECAUSE i gotta
watch my, team not get past them every. Year and
but this is my team's better than your. Team just

(41:19):
all my teams.

Speaker 4 (41:20):
Are better than. Your rangers are better than The, kings the,
rate the.

Speaker 1 (41:23):
Range, really how long you've been doing the, Show, frostburg
how long you we doing the show The rangers of my?

Speaker 4 (41:27):
Team, wow you don't even. Listen you don't listen to
ANYTHING i. SAY i don't know why we're still. Together
it doesn't. Happen oh my, Goodness.

Speaker 1 (41:36):
But like we're going to therapy. Now The panthers Are
Stanley cup. Champs coming up, next we get back into
THE Nba. Finals, Well Tyre's halliburton play In game. Six
