it's kind of gonna be a Creed night tonight, which
is just as bad as having a Nickelback night. However,

(01:38):
what did you say? I know, I know, I didn't,
I did, I did, no, no, no, I did somewhat,
So I'm sorry.

Speaker 4 (01:43):
Can you say that loud?

Speaker 1 (01:44):
I said, it's a Creed night tonight? It's a Creed?
What the hell? Jason?

Speaker 4 (01:50):
You know?

Speaker 1 (01:50):
I bet you the amateur us you know, we should
play a game Nickelback or Creed and just play songs.
People have to say, is that Nickelback?

Speaker 4 (01:57):
Is that Creed?

Speaker 1 (01:58):
It's the same, But it's actually going to be a
Creed night tonight because you know how things like this happen.
The Rangers, who are now seven outs away or I'm
sorry nine outs away from the Alcs, have decided to

(02:19):
turn Creed into a thing. It's become a song. It's
a touchstone for them. It's a flash point. They were
singing along to Creed during the game today, kind of
like you know, the Red Sox sing along to Sweet Caroline.
Now Creed's become a thing and the Rangers looking to
ride this momentum all the way to the World Series.
They have adopted Creed. They couldn't adopt somebody else. They

(02:41):
could have adopted you know, guns n' Roses, or they
couldn't have adopted the.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
Strutt No irony there.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
You couldn't adopted the cult, you know, I mean you
couldn't have really, couldn't adopted poison. Hey, we're talking dirty
to me all the time. No, we got a hold
that wond Jason stop.

Speaker 3 (02:56):
Well you know I celebrate Billy Duffy at every opportunity,
There's no question about it. But yeah, it's any and
Asbury of course. But yeah, there's no irony. I mean,
it's got to be creator Nickelback.

Speaker 1 (03:07):
No it does no, No, no, don't. Why is that
have to be? These bands? Why do people keep picking bands,
keep picking bands, keep peating at a band?

Speaker 2 (03:14):
Hi, everybody?

Speaker 1 (03:15):
Why do people keep picking bands that are just polarized?
People go oh this band? Really? Why I can't people
pick somebody who's good. Hey, you know what you know,
we're gonna Hey, we're listening to Katy Perry songs.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
Yeah, yeah, that's polarizing.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
We're gonna listen to Queens of the Stone Age. Oh okay, hey, great,
we're listening to Talica. Is gonna be out to like
what happened to like when the Giant said, Hey, man,
Journey is our band. Hey, everybody got behind Jerney, the
Saint Louis, the White Sox around Gloria. What about Gloria?
I have been playing Gloria all the time they won
the Stanley Cup, and they played that twenty four and
seven on the station for a week. And why do
we have to get No, it's gonna be Nickelback, It's

(03:49):
gonna be creeed, It's going why it's gonna.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
Be one of those bands.

Speaker 3 (03:51):
When I notice how he keeps circling back to Nickelback
for you the shirt.

Speaker 1 (03:55):
I don't know why I keep saying that. I'm just stupid.
I guess I don't say that, Todd. Look, listen, Tys
is gonna have a tough enough time pulling enough Creed
songs because I gotta explain the millennials who Creed is
now I don't even know they are. Yeah, No, it's okay,
it doesn't.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
They had that one.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
All their songs I mean really do sound like so yeah,
and they're interchangeable.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
They were a band that played Thanksgiving Day at at and.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
They did and then they jumped into the kettle.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
Yeah now ty shit. The lead singer is Apollo Creed. No, yes, yes,
does all the songs. It's awesome. It's Carl Weather's like
he's in disguise, like he's like he's got a persona
like when Garth Brooks was Chris Gaines. And now I
gotta explain the millennials who might.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
Have to explain to some people who yeah, might have
to explain to some people.

Speaker 4 (04:38):
Who did they throw the talent time?

Speaker 1 (04:42):
Well, that's the big thing. Like they before they do
their final encore, they make sure that Apollo Creed throw
They throw the talent in and then they do one
more song. If no one throws the towel in concerts over,
if they throw the towel and then you hear duke
yo the damn towel, they do a big encore and
it's pretty cool.

Speaker 4 (04:59):
That's cool.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
It's a good concert isn't it guy? And it starts
out They open up with the same song all the
time they do Living in America. He comes down from
out and then.

Speaker 4 (05:06):
You know.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
Comes up.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
Yeah, Drago comes up from the bottom and they do
the song together. It's really cool. Yeah yeah, I mean
Dolph Lungren has joined him on stage so many times.
So is Creed young Creed or is that his son?
Which Creed the Creed Creed Creed the band? It gets
apollo Creed Creed son. Sometimes sometimes he's but he tours
under the other like there's a big thing. There's a

(05:29):
big label award.

Speaker 3 (05:31):
Here's here's the key thing, though, is that Creed? You
know you thought he died in Rocky fourth spoiler alert,
he shows up in the Star Wars universe.

Speaker 1 (05:39):
Well, just because he dies in Rocky four. Sorry you
can't work again, but only died in one movie. Nah,
you're done.

Speaker 3 (05:46):
People think you're dead in another un Star.

Speaker 1 (05:52):
Wars is really wrong? Well, because you know, the funny
thing is, my uncle is the biggest Rocky movie fan
in the world, and he thought just because it was
so real to him, like he's like, how are they
bringing uh Burgess Meredith back in this movie. What are
you talking about? He goes, I thought he was dead.
I go, he just died in the movie. He's he
can be I think it was grumpy old Wady. He goes,
I know Burtis Meredith is alive. Ago, Yeah, he goes,
I thought he was dead. I go, because you thought

(06:14):
he because he died in Rocky sorry spoiler, because he
died in Rocky three. I go, But that didn't mean like,
they don't do that beat. They don't kill the actors
for real when you die in a movie. I don't
introduce that kind of soap operas. I mean, oh boy,
I mean you have to really, you have to really
sell out for your career. Going, yeah, I'm okay dying
if if, if this is what I.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
Do, what's family, I'm gonna live forever. We're gonna live
for No, they're sure they're gonna get proper residuals. I mean,
maybe that's part of the second after thing.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
We had doing.

Speaker 1 (06:41):
He thought, Burgess Mayor, I'm Burgess Meredith and I'm back
from the dead. You know he was Batman, hear, and
club meant, yeah, well, yeah, the original Batman, I mean,
way before he was Mickey. You know, but I thought
he was uh Twitter, or how about a Fresco Mike
and swollen dome tonight show. I'm brought to you by Discover.
If you like using Devin over credit, shouldn't you also
get rewarded? Well now you can with Discover cash Back debit,

(07:02):
So checking account the rewards everyone with cash back on

and terms at discover dot com slash cash bag debit
that's Discovered dot com slash cash back debit Discover Bank
member FD. I see now, seriously about the Ranges before
you get too far off into Creed and we're gonna
hear with arms wide open the entire night. Now, well,

(07:23):
at least there'll be no tears for fears because well
we have Creed that will take its place. So there's that.
Uh look the Rangers again, they are not for one night, sure,
because like what do I say it, the Mets bullpen.
If I would trade the Mets bullpen sight unseen for
any other bullpen, why because the other bullpen might suck,
but at least it's new and it's something new, like
if we're gonna hear Creed songs all night boy. I'm

(07:45):
not happy, but at least it's not tears or fears,
and Creed is new, so we have that. So it's
kind of if the suck is new or it's okay,
I can deal with it for a little bit. Jason,
you didn't know there was a Creed Tears remix? There
is no. Oh wow, ty Shir would actually have to
work hard to do something to make that happen. And
I don't know. Well, he's got working on he's got
his automate podcast that he's going to record after the

(08:05):
night tonight.

Speaker 4 (08:06):
I actually am Yeah, you might recording it right now.

Speaker 1 (08:09):
Yeah. Steve Garvey is on Tyshert's anime podcast, Yeah, to
talk about running running for senator. Yeah, and I think
he's actually running with his campaign manager isn't animate character.
So I think that's good. That's pretty cool.

Speaker 2 (08:21):
Now, that's creative. You want to win and win over
new voters.

Speaker 4 (08:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (08:25):
Yeah, Tyscher asked Garvy about his forearms.

Speaker 5 (08:27):
I will literally give tysher twenty dollars right now if
you can tell me who Steve Garvey is.

Speaker 4 (08:34):
He is a upcoming mayor justin you.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
Know, he's not even running for mayor.

Speaker 4 (08:38):
Oh, what's he running for?

Speaker 1 (08:40):
He's running for senate.

Speaker 4 (08:41):
Oh I thought he was running for his life from
Shylah Boff.

Speaker 1 (08:43):
No, well that's what he is. That's her what it does.
But doesn't Garvey have to run also against Say and
Russell and Lopes And he doesn't have to run against
all three four of those if I have to run
on different tickets together, because somebody runs Democrats, somebody runs Independent,
somebody runs Green Party, and he run Republican. That's how
it goes. It's got to be all four of them
running against each other, and you pick your favorite Dodger infielder.

(09:06):
So no, but but look the Rangers again are are
just now six outs away from the American League Championship Series.
And you know, to give credit for a team where
just think about what they're accomplishing. This is a team
that went all in to go get Jacob de Gram
in the in the beginning of the season, and they
paid all kinds of money to him when he wound

(09:27):
up getting hurt really early. And not only is he
out for this year, he's out for all of next year.
What do they do with the trade deadline? We traded prospects,
We went all in on Max Scherzer. He was the
missing piece. We gotta hold teams off, we gotta hold
off the askers, we gotta do all of these things.
And Max Scherzer is hurt and he is not pitched.
He's not even on the Alds roster. Who knows he's
even going to pitch again this season. They're two guys

(09:49):
that they are spending a ton of money on. Well,
half the money is the Mets money, for sure, but
these two guys that they are spending so much money
on that they're two huge, their biggest acquisitions, and they're
still going to wind up in the ALCS. And they're
gonna wind up in the ALCS easy. It's not like
they've had to break us sweat in the first two
rounds here. Well, the Orioles starting pitchers who are coming

(10:10):
up from single A just to pitch. It helps them
a little bit.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
Well, the only sweat was sweat for them.

Speaker 3 (10:14):
Yeah, the only sweat was the slap fight between gms
about how much they did or didn't party?

Speaker 2 (10:20):
Were they not ready?

Speaker 3 (10:21):
Were they did they not hydrate ahead of their final
game to give away the division?

Speaker 1 (10:26):
I mean, this is this is some kind of achievement
to be able to do that when you're thinking the
guys we brought in that, we gave up tons of
money and prospects, and we're getting zero from them. They're
getting zero from de Grom, and they will get zero
from de Grom. They're getting zero from Scherzer and they
probably will get zero from him. And they're still right
here and they're still way They're still saying, we're licking

(10:48):
our lips for that Tech Rangers, Astros, rematch Man, we're
ready to go. That is some kind of accomplishment. I
don't want any team to hear, Oh, we can't win.
We lost our guy, we lost this guy, We lost
this guy, we lost this We can't do the We
can't do that at the range. Same with the two
biggest guys we had. We're gonna stop getting Mets players
because they keep coming. Doesn't being injured or continuing to
be injured. These guys, they brought it and it doesn't matter.

(11:10):
They are steam rolling to the ALCS.

Speaker 3 (11:13):
Think about how many owners and gms now though, have
the ability to just say, look, they didn't do anything.
We're not doing a damn thing. We're not spending any
money unless we can work out a deal where we
take someone else's disastrous contract. I think would be the
kind way where they're picking up most of the cash
so we have no risk. Otherwise we're not bothering. Yeah,

(11:34):
you want a couple of lower level prospects, sure go on,
we'll take that on as long as you're paying ninety
percent of the freight. But otherwise, just continuity and getting
out being aggressive. And watched it with the Diamondbacks, same thing,
get getting up early and the Orioles inexperience. The question
we asked our guy John Paul Morosi last week, right,

(11:56):
whether it would be a helper in drance And here
we are. The young pitchers haven't been able to even
keep it close.

Speaker 2 (12:03):
Right.

Speaker 3 (12:03):
You can look in the other series and you know
you have some some ebb and flow to where you
the game's still in the balance. This has been a
no contest.

Speaker 5 (12:13):
Jason, you're missing the biggest signing of all of the Rangers.
Pains me to say it, but the reason they're really.

Speaker 1 (12:20):
Cory Seeger, Sure, Bruce Bochi and well that a giant, hey,
I mean yeah, eight and eight and a quarter. I mean,
come on, look, he's also and he's a guy I
want to get into too. He's someone who has had
an unbelievable career that doesn't get the do that he needs.
You know, he's he's a guy that's managed old school.
He won three World Series in the age of analytics

(12:42):
with with the Giants. He brought the Padres to the Plaid.
The Padres for some reason decided, hey, we want a
younger manager. We'll let you go to the Giants. All
he does is go there and win World Series every
other year. And now he retires and then four years later, Yeah,
I can come back because the guy knows how to
bleep and coach and it doesn't matter something times about
analytics or anything else. And here he is now in

(13:03):
the Alcs when he has come in and done his
thing right. He's not a guy that runs around and
yells you hear. All they say about is his calm,
his calm, his calm. Now is he the right manager
at the right time? Probably, You know certain teams, Hey
we don't need a call manager. We need somebody that's
gonna light a fire under us, which is why it
didn't work. For example, with the Mets and Buck Showalter

(13:23):
last year, because Buck was a let's sit back. Let's
sit back, sitting back with loads of one hundred games, why
are we sitting back and forth? So maybe you need
somebody else, but this team that's got a lot of money,
and when there's money, there comes pressure and all kinds
of things that goes along with it. Hey, sometimes you
need that guy that can come in and give you
the calm and give you the knowledge and just make
you the best player you can be without overloading you

(13:45):
with analytics and what you would hear when you're getting
your pitch here in this zone, you're massive, you're hitting
six twenty five. But when you're out here, he doesn't
do stuff like that. And still this shows you that
in twenty twenty three, there's a place for that in
the game in a large way. I can't say enough. Man,
it pains me because the Rangers have both of our
best players that are not playing, but so you know,

(14:06):
I mean, it pains me, but it's an unbelievable accomplishment
for both the Rangers and Bruce Pochi.

Speaker 6 (14:11):
Yeah, soon enough the Cubs will have Pete Alonzo. Be
sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show
with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten PM Eastern, seven pm Pacific.

Speaker 1 (14:24):
It's gotta be Creed.

Speaker 4 (14:25):
It's Creed, sounds like it.

Speaker 1 (14:28):
Let's do that later on tonight. We here's what I
want you to do. Here's what you to do. I'm
gonna give you an assignment. Okay. I want you to
find Creed songs and Nickelback songs that people don't know,
Like find like the deepest the filler songs on all
their albums, which is most of them. Okay, So all
the songs that people don't know, and we're gonna have,
you know, if the Rangers win tonight and they're trying

(14:48):
to hold onto this lead here, we will celebrate the
Rangers by doing a Creed or Nickelback game where you
play the song and we have to guess if it's
Creator Nickelback. But it's gotta be songs we don't know.
I love it, all right, So your kids here and
go not songs that you don't know, like what's just
what it's higher? No, everybody knows that. I'm going why
just for America's sake?

Speaker 2 (15:09):
No, I think I think America would like this.

Speaker 1 (15:13):
We can prove that maybe they're the same band, maybe
they're everybody they've never toured together. Have they think about that?
Think about that, EA Street Band night, think about that.

Speaker 2 (15:23):
You just really stamped your Chad Kroger Media.

Speaker 1 (15:26):
Proger, Scott Stapp never been photographed together.

Speaker 4 (15:29):
Never Joe Rogan and then the owner of.

Speaker 1 (15:34):
Doctor Joe, Doctor Joe Rogan.

Speaker 4 (15:38):
Okay, yeah, and the other guy.

Speaker 1 (15:39):
He's gonna mediate the debate between Aaron Rodgers and Travis Kelcey.

Speaker 4 (15:43):
So, Dana Wyatt, I think they're the same person. Could
be seen a photo of them together?

Speaker 1 (15:47):
Okay, I will look for that. All right, let's do.
Let's let's take care of Nickelback and Creed tonight and
then the rest of them. They're literally in the ring
after every fight together.

Speaker 3 (15:54):
That's a lot of stuff going on there.

Speaker 2 (15:56):
There's really a hologram.

Speaker 5 (15:59):
After every I got pictures of them right here all
over my computer.

Speaker 1 (16:03):
Look, you didn't.

Speaker 4 (16:04):
Have to curt Now you can crop that.

Speaker 1 (16:06):
It says there's one point eight million matches for that photoshot.

Speaker 2 (16:09):
One point eight million matches.

Speaker 1 (16:10):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (16:11):
Now, let's want a hell of a dating service there.

Speaker 1 (16:13):
Before we get to a huge story, they're like, we
had big injury news today in the NFL all over
the place. But it is opening night in the NHL. Okay,
that's great, right, we had opening Night in the NHL,
and you know it's a great night. You have the
Vegas Golden Knights are treating tonight like a red carpet event.
Jack Eichel, you know, was the MVP of the playoffs
last years, signing autographs on this way and they haven't

(16:35):
set up they have a golden carpet like Vegas is
doing it right, and uh, you would think that. Let's
say you're a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, right you
could watch the the Penguins opening up tonight against the
Chicago Blackhawks. It's two to one Penguins lead in the
third period, right now, you would think, okay.

Speaker 2 (16:51):
I'm just you know, it has a point in his game.

Speaker 1 (16:55):
You just missed a goal by it by a little
bit and weid welcome in by the referee.

Speaker 4 (17:00):
Hey welcome.

Speaker 1 (17:01):
Yeah, it's not for the party. We should have done
this with Crosby. So it's two to one, you're thinking, okay,
what what? And I can watch this game and not
have to worry about any sort of frustration that I
have with the Pittsburgh steam.

Speaker 2 (17:16):
Oh, what's a new season?

Speaker 1 (17:17):
Hope Springs a turn actually in first place despite a
negative sixty point differential.

Speaker 3 (17:23):
You know they are, They're on the metal standard. Suck offensively.
You realize there are only two teams scoring fewer points
per game than they do.

Speaker 1 (17:30):
Yeah, that's not good. And you know who they are.
It's not good. And and and Kenny Pickett's not good.
And that's okay. You hate because he's not good. I
don't hate him. He's just not good.

Speaker 2 (17:39):
So I blame Canada.

Speaker 1 (17:41):
Well, And the funny thing is you're not alone because
here's a chant that went up from the Pittsburgh crowd
in the middle of the game. Just because listen to that,

(18:06):
that sound of fire Canada coming through every now PPG
Paints Arena in Pittsburgh. You can't get away from it.
Matt Canada, Hey fire Canada at the Penguins game. I
wonder if Canada is actually at the game and people
saw him and they decided, let's chant fire Canada.

Speaker 3 (18:23):
Would he be more enthusiastic about anything happening with the Penguins.

Speaker 2 (18:27):
Uh, more so than.

Speaker 3 (18:29):
He was with the touchdown scored by Pikets, where the
reaction was was not exactly uh, you know, boyish exuberance.

Speaker 1 (18:37):
Well, because it was one play, I mean, all the
steal they had one play. Kenny Pickett threw a deep
one on one in Marlin Humphrey got beat okay that
they had one play on Sunday and somebody, oh no,
you had one play on one play you had one.

Speaker 2 (18:49):
Pay Hey what did that? What did that one play?

Speaker 3 (18:51):
Do?

Speaker 1 (18:51):
Had one play? Yeah? You won despite the fact you
tried to give the game back to them by by
whatever they did in the final minute of the game
with the penalty in the running bags insane.

Speaker 3 (19:01):
There's a lot going on there. Yeah, the guy get
punched in the face. It was a lot of TJ.
Watt is heard and all that. Yeah, I mean there
there's a lot going on. The bye week for them
could not come at a better time.

Speaker 1 (19:13):
Yeah, Well I'm Matt Canada too. Although now seeing this
is like I can't even watch the Penguins.

Speaker 3 (19:17):
I can't watch I can't even enjoy the things I
like in my downtime.

Speaker 1 (19:20):
People want to want to get fine stealing get joy
from my life. Hey, we're here with Penguin's legend Sidney Crosby, Sydney,
you know, how do you see I'll look at the
team tonight. Well, you know, I really think the Steelers
have trouble offensively and they got to make some changes.
If they don't, I don't know, it's gonna be a
really rough.

Speaker 3 (19:35):
Season in the In the in the clubhouse, we were
talking a lot before we came out, and well, we
really been thinking about our Steelers and and how much
that's weighing down on it as.

Speaker 2 (19:47):
We begin a new season. All the morale here in
the city is just not right.

Speaker 1 (19:52):
Also in the game today, Patrick Kaine is here, Blackhawk's legend,
waiting to get healthy and signed with a new team.
How do you want to watch the team tonight? Boy, I'm
glad we got Justin Field. I feel like we had
no problems on offense. Unlike this team. Boy, they can't
do anything. They're chanting fire Canada in the stands.

Speaker 2 (20:06):
Now they down their gloves and they're fighting. Boy.

Speaker 6 (20:12):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.

Speaker 1 (20:20):
A couple of big injuries to break down today, and
the first one Justin Jefferson, best receiver in the NFL,
out at least the next four games. Due to a
strained right hamstring. He got hurt in the vikings twenty
seven to twenty loss to the Chiefs on Sunday. It's
just the hits just keep on coming for the Vikings, right,
they can't win. You don't know what kind of future
they're gonna have. Are they gonna keep their quarterback? And

(20:41):
now Justin Jefferson, the one guy you need on the
field if you're gonna win games and keep this thing going,
is gonna be out at least the next four games.
The earliest he can come back is Week ten against
the Saints. But at that point I think we'll know, Hey,
does he need to come back or does he not?
So look, while you're missing, you're missing the best receiver
in the and and hopefully he gets well soon and

(21:02):
comes back. And basically this is to protect him in
his future. They don't want him to come back too
early from the hamstring injury and get hurt further, which
is why they want to keep him out and put
him on on on injured reserve for four weeks so
to you know, protect against that. So all big thoughts
to him. But I'll tell you what, Mike, I mean,
this jumps right to Kirk Cousins. And now you're looking

(21:23):
at it at a Vikings team that by the deadline,
if you're two and six, you're lucky, right, I mean,
even with Justin Jefferson. If you're two and six, you're lucky.
You got the Bears this week, which is the opportunity,
the only tame you can maybe win. But now it
looks like it's gonna be even tougher. Even though Justin
Jefferson has more yard receiving than any Bear in the
team's history. You know it was gonna be a tough

(21:44):
one anyway. Now you're talking about no Justin Jefferson. You
got Justin Fields and Dj Moore on heaters. You're looking
at a fact that the season's gonna be lost by
the trade deadline. And this is where if I am
the Jets, and I'll even open up, not to make
it about the Jets, but if I need a quarterback
and I think, hey, we have some super Bowl type

(22:05):
dreams here. Talk about a guy in a heater. Cousins
leads the NFL in touchdowns. You have to go after him.
He is gettable. He'll be gettable for a very low
price because the Vikings will just want to get draft
picks because they're gonna wind up getting their new quarterback
in the draft at some point, because look, there's five
or six guys could go in the first round. If
you're losing games, you're gonna be able to pick pick somebody.

(22:27):
You want to grab as many picks as you can.
Go get Kirk Cousins. He is eminently available. It won't
cost a bunch because he's a walk away at the
end of the season, or hey, you like him, you
can sign him right if he has a great year,
Hey I like it here, things were great, we won.
I'm looking forward to ay go for another two years.
If it works out, great, But he is available and

(22:47):
I go get him. I do not even hesitate, especially
if I'm the Jets, because don't fall in out. Let
me say that I want this to get out to everybody. Karma,
get out, Karma, get out of it. Don't fall into
the trap that Zach Wilson is good, okay, just because
the last couple of weeks he has played. Okay, and
you happen to win against the Broncos, you won because
you ran for two hundred and twenty yards against one

(23:08):
of the worst defense. They stink Okay, Denver stinks. Zach
Wilson playing a little bit better the last two weeks,
I get it, But what did he do against the Chiefs?
He had the big fumble that cost you the game
in the second half, and in the fourth quarter against
the Broncos, what did he have? He didn't make the
right decision at the end a halftime when they had
the ball with fifteen seconds left in the Denver ten

(23:30):
yard line. He throws the ball in bounds and so
the receiver gets tackled cj Uzoma and they can't spike
the ball. They don't get points before halftime. That's unforgivable.
He throws a bad pick on a third down play
in the final two minutes when you know you can't
throw a pick and you gotta get points. Now, I
love the fact that he was aggressive there, but just
because we can't set the bar so low to say, oh,

(23:53):
but I like that he was aggressive. No, he threw
a pick in a situation where you can't throw a pick.
You gotta make sure you get points because then you're
up by and you're kicking off and you're forcing the
Broncos to score a touchdown. Luckily, the defense bailed them out,
but this is still the guy that makes a lot
of mistakes. Don't get lulled into hey, we could be
all right with Zach. Zach and Wilson may keep you
around and keep you five hundred ish until the deadline,

(24:15):
but then you gotta get serious. You gotta go get somebody.
You got the Eagles on Sunday likely gonna be two
and four, so you gotta win a couple more games
to claw back to even and then make it traight.
You're four and four. Things can happen for you in
the NFL. You are four and four, everything, all your
hopes and dreams, winning divisions, go on the suit. It
is all there for you. But you gotta be five
hundred when you get to the midway point of the season.

(24:36):
It's too hard to pick it up when you're two
and six, three and five. You gotta be five hundred.
You gotta make sure you get there, and when you're there,
you gotta make sure you have somebody there's gonna keep
you there and do more for you if you can,
somehow with with ice and tape and gum, whatever it is,
hold the Jets together with Zach Wilson when it gets
that deadline, go get Kirk Cousins. Anybody else needs a quarterback,

(24:57):
go get Kirk Cousins. He is available. He should be
on a different team by the time we get to
the deadline. And if that doesn't happen, that's just an
epic fail by any team who was quarterback needy. And
now I'll say especially the Jets.

Speaker 3 (25:09):
Yeah, let's let's back it up a little bit and
talk about some of the information that flowed today and
that the Vikings brought in.

Speaker 2 (25:19):
Colt McCoy for a workout today.

Speaker 3 (25:21):
Now, they've had some issues at the backup quarterback position
with health and availability, and we'll just let's call it
what it is, experience along the way. So the veterans
showing up for a workout, curious timing right as Jefferson
goes to IR Remember he's not signed yet. The other
thing is, so they got to play nice with him

(25:42):
and really do right by him, because well, this season
may be lost, so they might go start down the highway.
I'm not doing the lazy k Williams sweepstakes. Like there's
other quarterbacks. Okay, blake him, Okay, he's one of many
guys that are coming into the draft, it's not all
and sometimes your team just sucks okay, and you recognize

(26:03):
that after five weeks. It's not we're tanking, it's you
realize you're terrible and you're many players away from competing.
Now that I've said that, because adovamensa, they're gm second
year guy. We don't have a track record of him
blowing chances. But one big thing lost in the Kirk
Cousin discussion, I think as it started to circulate the

(26:25):
last forty eight hours, right since Jefferson's injury became a parent,
that it might not just be a hey, walk it off,
give it a couple of days, you'll be ready to
go against the Bears, is.

Speaker 2 (26:36):
That Kirk Cousins has a full no trade clause. Right,
you want to.

Speaker 3 (26:40):
Talk about him in big situations, primetime games, whatever, that's fine.
You can have those debates and decide how much is
him versus the team as a whole when it comes
to business acumen and having the right people pushing buttons
for him. The guy's worked on several guaranteed contracts that
are row and he has a full no trade clause.

(27:02):
You know, the happy fuzzy family you saw in quarterback.

Speaker 1 (27:06):
Happy and fuzzy.

Speaker 3 (27:07):
It's gonna take a lot, perhaps to convince him to
go to a squad not for him, but you gotta
upset the Apple card a little bit.

Speaker 1 (27:15):
You're gonna go somewhere and potentially win, don't You're thirty
five and you've never won. I think the engine won't
do it. But does he want to go play necessarily
for the Jets? I don't know right the do you
want to go play for the Falcons? Are the Falcons
really that close to winning? I know they won this
week before that game kicked off the discussion around the

(27:37):
water coolers. Anybody they're gonna go get justin Fields because
Desmond Riders stinks. And then all of a sudden, you're
gonna try to tell me he's good because he has
one game. I don't know. But that's a team where
it's it's got a fun you bright, But if you
brought him in, does he fix everything? As much as
we may like Drake London, maybe you resurrect what was
once the greatness or perceive greatness.

Speaker 3 (27:58):
From Kyle Pitts. Why a thousand yard receiver and recent memory.

Speaker 1 (28:02):
But that's a young team that's trying to figure out
is riddle our quarterback? Or next year do we have
to go get somebody else? Right now? If they rip
off a bunch of wins and they're sitting there at
that yeah, but if there's a okay, if they rip
off a bunch of wins, they're gonna think they're good
enough if they if they don't win games, they know
while we're not good enough, we're not Kirk Cousins away.
They want to take this year and go We're really

(28:23):
really young. All their best players are twenty three and under.
So it's like they're like, at you twenty three soccer team?
Wait were you twenty three?

Speaker 2 (28:29):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (28:29):
But if I could go get it, and I've decided
that I don't like Desmond Ridder and I can go
get Captain Kirk and maybe go steal the division. Right,
we got Tampa and the great reclamation project that has
been Baker Mayfield. They'll be coming off the bye, which
is exciting.

Speaker 2 (28:43):
Oh look, I just like, just.

Speaker 1 (28:45):
Don't think you're likely, but I think that why not, right,
I don't think that I'm not anybody.

Speaker 3 (28:49):
Miss a quarterback. No, that's exactly right. You should at
least inquire. You should at least inquire with the GM
and with the front office to say, hey, can we
sit down and talk to.

Speaker 6 (28:59):
Kirk and at least have that conversation. Be sure to
catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike
Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific.

Speaker 1 (29:09):

It's gonna be fun.

(30:03):
set and we are looking into the end of the night.
In Major League Baseball, we have John Paul Morosi stopping
buying about a half hour. As we break down the
games tonight, we watch the UH Houston Astros take a
two games to one lead over the Twins end the Rangers,
now three outs away from eliminating the Orioles and moving
on to the Alcs. You know the one thing I

(30:23):
miss and I don't want to feel like old baseball guy.
Oh you know what in my day, I missed the
businessman's specials when I could sit in my shirt sleeves
and watch playoff games at one o'clock in the afternoon. No, no, no,
I don't. I never missed that. But that used to
be fun getting home from school, running home from school
because the playoff game was on. That used to be fun. No,
what I miss and it's not coming back? And this

(30:46):
is you know I walked right into that. Yeah, I
walked into that one. I walked in that one. That's
what you were whistling happy I was. That was I
was snow whiting the Seven Doors. No what I mean,
And this is part of and this gets into today.
This is about today's game. Is that what's gone and

(31:07):
not coming back. Which was always so much fun was
the big time pitching matchup, the battle of the Aces.
We would get two and sometimes three times in a series.
Right now, part of it is because of the way
the playoffs are now to you know, we have so
many rounds in the playoffs and you have to clinch
getting down to the end of the year. You can't
just maneuver your starting rotation to be what you want

(31:30):
it to be. Sometimes, well we clinch on Sunday, so
we have to go to our next guy on Monday
for the first board Tuesday for the first playoff.

Speaker 3 (31:36):
Game, unless you can build separations. Yeah right, I mean
so many of these races went down to the final
two days. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (31:42):
Look, it's it's really really hard to say, Okay, let's
line up our pitching the way we want to. So
that's not gonna happen because of that. But the other
thing is there's not good enough pitchers, right, I mean,
that's the thing is is you're lucky.

Speaker 2 (31:55):
If you leave the Dodgers alone.

Speaker 1 (31:57):
You're lucky if you have one ace for a game.
Nobody's got two. Nobody many teams don't have one. You
already had teams that if game two of the League
Division Series, we're going to bullpen games you had. The
Worioles are bringing up guys from the El Segundo team
that won the Little League World Series. Hey, these guys won.
They're good, they're fourteen years old. Let's put them out

(32:18):
there to pitch. I mean, really, this is what the
Orioles are doing. This is what teams are doing now.
There is no pitching that is That is what I
missed because I missed the oh Man. Game one is
gonna be kershaw de Gram or Game one is gonna
be Verlander or whatever it was gonna be. We don't
have that anymore, and those days are not coming back.

Speaker 3 (32:35):
Now.

Speaker 1 (32:35):
Once in a while, will we get that great, Hey,
hey we have we have a big match up here. Yeah,
we'll get But that will just show you how much
I miss it. And it's it's just part of the
modern day. It's just something that went away because it
went away because you can't maneuver your your your rotation
because of the many playoff games, and nobody really has
more than an ace. If they do. Some guys, well,
who are you starting? Well, he's the best starter we have.

(32:57):
He was nine and eleven and an era of three
point four to seven. I mean, really, that's what it was.
You go back even into the nineties, it was boy,
you got good, good starters of one, two, three, whether
it was the Braves with Maddox and Smoltz and Glavin. Even, hey,
they're gonna pitch Steve Avery. Why not they like pitching
Steve Avery. You know, the Yankees the same way with
their rotation, and that was just how it went. And

(33:18):
now that's just gone and it's not coming back.

Speaker 2 (33:21):
Yeah, it's it's tough, right.

Speaker 3 (33:23):
You add the extra wildcard round, and while it's good
for baseball in one way, it takes away a little
more of the tradition on the other. And again, not
to be the old guy, get off my lawn, but
you know, as a guy like you, you know running home,
and I did it certainly a lot during my time
living in Chicago growing up, right, you'd race home to
see WGN and watch the Cubs. Didn't like the Cubs,

(33:45):
but I had day baseball coming straight. Mom I'm changing
general hospital. The hell you are. It's like, no, let's go.
And then eventually, you know, convinced her that that was
a good thing. But it just the the idea of
those big power pitchers and you know, the workhorses that
you grew up watching and all those legendary names. And

(34:06):
now it's a all right, can I get four innings
out of this guy? I'm hoping for five because we
used the bullpen up yesterday. Right, I mean we're already
talking about it across the Los Angeles for tomorrow, right,
lance Lynn can if he goes at least two innings.
He's the leader in the clubhouse for your starters. I mean,
that's a weird place to be. Whereas with Arizona they

(34:27):
had two starters and now we'll see how they respond.
Like all the way throughout baseball, it's just a much
different game. Analytics, just like we do with all of
our second guessing of coaches in college and pro football,
it's the same thing managerial experience game to game, and
we saw it, we always have seen it. Micro managed
in the playoffs, it's on a whole other level.

Speaker 1 (34:49):
Now, yeah, it really is. And I get that that's
the way baseball has gone. And I'm not saying that, oh,
baseball's better when it happened. It's just these days ain't
coming back.

Speaker 2 (34:58):
No, it's just different. It's that's worse.

Speaker 5 (35:02):
You know.

Speaker 2 (35:02):
It's to each their own.

Speaker 3 (35:03):
It's just a recognize that you've irreparably changed this game. Uh,
not to mention the way we baby pitchers at the
first side of trouble, we take.

Speaker 1 (35:12):
Them out exit. How about a Fresca exit Swollen down
the Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon.
The Rangers are into the Alcs. They just eliminated the
Orioles and the Blackhawks with three goals in the third,
beat the Penguins four to two. The Penguins had no
answer offensively in Canada. This is all Matt Canada's fault.

Speaker 2 (35:32):
It is offensively they shut down.

Speaker 1 (35:35):
I had the line and you jumped. All you could
say blame I had it. We can we can play it.
