(00:50):
here we are. Show begins smackdeb Friday Night, final weekend
of NFL preseason action. One game down, one game, nearly over,
one game, ready to start. Oh, Mike car it's here man.
I feel like the last couple of weeks have been
the ramp up, and now here we are. Last time
we see it. They'll tee it up for real next week.
College footbal tomorrow morning. Like that now it feels like, Okay,
(01:13):
now we've really made it through and made it through
the parts of the summer where it's ah, we're looking
for storylines and fine and stuff, and now I feel like, okay,
we kind of hit that track and now we're grooving. Well.
Speaker 3 (01:24):
We had a lot of storylines to run with between
the Olympics and all sorts of peripheral stuff. I mean,
it was really a lot of what you would call
maybe b or cless stuff. But given the way we
normally treat things, it becomes an a paper by time
we're done with it and doctor it up. But I
think there's been a lot of folks, especially in media,
that have already been pregaming for that game in Ireland.
Speaker 1 (01:46):
Yeah, going on twenty four hours. Yeah, yeah, yeah, And
you know it's big when when when when teams start
trotting out American Idol contestants to do the national anthem
Pia Toscato, who was a top ten fo Yeah, doing
the national anthem for a Raiders like Okay, it's a
long time ago though, Yeah, but it doesn't matter once
you start getting the name people for the national anthem. Okay,
(02:06):
and now you know, now we're getting ready. Football is
getting serious. Now we're trotting people out there. This is
not hey, so and so's kid who want to contest
and they get to do the national No, no, no, no.
Now we're getting the celebrities that maybe you've heard of.
You know, it's he gets it once you've had a
celebrity you may or may not have heard of. You know.
The real stuff is getting close.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
Who is the guy that beat Rubens?
Speaker 1 (02:25):
Stuttered? Clay Aikin, No, he's come on, man, Clay Akin
is like that's a halftime of a Now, come on, man,
Clay Akins, like halftime of a of a Thanksgiving game.
Like he's not preseason, Clay, Come on, Clay Akon comes back.
He probably took Yeah, yeah, yeah, no, Clay, he's a
Thanksgiving you know.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
The guy I was actually thinking about was Taylor Hits.
Oh d guy, he was like forty five when he's
supposed to be like twenty five or something like that.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
Yeah, but he won though, Like Taylor Hicks is like
opening day for somebody wherever he's from, Like, that's Taylor
Hicks National anth This is kind of a fun topic here, Hey,
what kind of neat anthem? Singer are these people where
can you what? What compartment can you put him into?
And Taylor Hicks is like a opening week like if
he's from Florida, Nashville, Yeah, okay, Nashville, So he would
(03:12):
do that, he would he would do the Titans to
get with the Titans. Yeah, he would be he would
do the national anthem for the Titans opening line. Like
that's Taylor Hicks, Like he's that level.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
No, it's pretty good. So it's it's that time. It's Look,
I'm so bolstered in how much I think of Trevor
Lawrence now after his big performance Center, let me tell you,
I feel like I need to go redo the Quarterback
edition of the iwatcher Flex podcast.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
That's the boy. Look at the if I get this
out of Trevor light Yeah, the Falcons played nobody the
game that that is over.
Speaker 3 (03:46):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
The Jaguars beat the Falcons thirty one nothing. Trevor Lawrence
had a cameo in the first half through for a
couple of touchdowns. Jaguars are three and oh they're feeling
great about the preseason. Jags, Jags, Jags Jack Yeah, okay,
take take it easy, take it through the Jacks. Carmen
it is ever present, sarcasm bucket. Just take it easy, everybody.
Harmon doesn't mean you know, fly Trevor Lawrence up your
(04:07):
fantasy rankings. Get him in the top five. Easy.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
Easy if you made an action figure of me, the accessory,
the sarcasm.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
Bucket or a microphone. Now, look the big takeaway from
this game, because we'll get to Niners Raiders in a second.
They still haven't kicked off yet. Yeah, Falcons, what does
it matter? Right? Falcons didn't play anybody, They lose thirty
one nothing. No Michael Pennix Junior tonight, they are saving
him obviously, there's no need to play him. You heard
all the quotes. Hey, he showed enough the first time.
(04:38):
We don't need to play him anymore. And I get it,
but this is this phrase. When I see this game
being talked about and Michael Pennix Junior doesn't play, it
really makes me wonder what everybody in NFL media is thinking.
Michael Pennix Junior was a DNP tonight. No reason to obviously.
The first reason, the most popular one is, hey, you
(04:59):
saw what happened to Jay J. McCarthy. He wasn't gonna
play for a little while. Sam Darnold was going to start.
And why are you playing McCarthy so much when he
gets hurt? Right, there's a reaction to that. Why are
we playing Michael Pennix junior? We've seen enough Allegedly he's
not going to play. Kirk Cousins is the guy, so
why I said him? And I can't tell you how
many times I've seen that this week when people have
(05:20):
written about the Falcons and Pennix that, well, Pennix will
play at some point, but the job this year belongs
to Kirk Cousins. He won't play this year. And I'm real,
I'm reading like ESPN and NFL BE and I'm saying,
you guys are insane. You guys are insane. Kirk Cousins
is a bridge quarterback. It doesn't matter how much he
is being paid. He is a bridge quarterback. You drafted
(05:42):
the guy you want to be your quarterback. First round quarterbacks.
Guys that go in the top ten aren't guys that
sit for a long time. Jordan Love was back into
the first round. They moved him up. It was let's
motivate Aaron Rodgers. He has an MVP type season, right,
That's how they I know that's how the Falcons see
this going. It's not happening. If Kirk Cousins is bad,
(06:03):
Michael Pennick Junior is gonna take over. He's had a
really good summer. The game is not too big for him.
He makes some really good throws. Yes, I might worried
a little bit about how he reacts when the play
is not as scripted. Yeah, but that's something you learned
about in the NFL at Washington, when he would just
sit back and in a pocket and not get touched. Yeah,
of course you're gonna look great. So it's gonna be
a little bit of an adjustment for him. But if
(06:24):
you think he's not gonna play this Jevy people are
just crazy, like how could you? You can't ignore how
this is gone, how this has going on. He's being
sad because they know at some point he's gonna play.
And if Kirk Cousins stinks, if Kirk Cousins is still
worried about Penix over his shoulder, he's still not happy.
Cousins is a bridge quarterback. It doesn't matter what his
(06:45):
contract is anymore. If at best he's gonna do one
year and then they're gonna spin him off someplace else
in Pennix Junior takes over. But what is more likely
gonna happen is if kirk Cousins coming off a big
injury is not good, guess who's gonna get the call?
And kirk Cousin's gonna get traded in the offseason, and
someone will still trade f rohim and be okay with
the contract because he's been great all the way up
until this year. That's exactly how this is gonna go.
(07:07):
He is a bridge quarterback and Michael Pennix Junior is
not playing because they know he's gonna have to play
at some point and it's gonna probably be soon. So
why are you playing him when you're risking when you
got a bunch of backups out there? This is why
he's really not playing.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
Well, that's said, It becomes a risk assessment. The McCarthy
thing is part of it. The other is between practices,
film room, everything else coming out of Atlanta has been
that he more than fits the part and that he's
ready to go. So at this point in the preseason,
the only think is downside, which is why when you
see some of these starters out here, I'm like, did
(07:42):
you really not put anything on tape that you're feeling
good about through training camp or what you just convinced
the coach that you needed some extra reps. Like the
Trevor Lawrence thing just baffles me. But when we get
a Goainna obsess on that all night. But when we
look at the Cousin's impetic thing, you're right, the contract signed.
They get the fortuitous situation whereby Penix comes to him
(08:06):
and in the moment, I'll still stand by what I said, Like,
all right, as much as you may like the guy
you paid out Kirk, you gotta pay Kirk, and you
got a window with that roster that you think you
might be able to win. And if Kirk fits the
bill and from preseason prognostication, a lot of heavy expectations
on the Falcons to go and run rough shot in
(08:28):
that division and suddenly become a playoff team. You know,
the fact that people are excited about Kyle Pitts again
tells you everything you need to know, because this would
be one of the poster your children. Jason of post
hype Sleepers in a fantasy realm because year after year, yeah,
the final numbers are good, but do you ever feel
(08:49):
like you took over a game.
Speaker 1 (08:50):
Hell no.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
Now there's a question with him in London and company
whether they can best offensive line in the game. Go
on down the line, a fast, aggressive defense that for
Captain Kirk everything is there. Assuming he does his part,
he'll keep the job. But there's two things. One, he's
coming off a massive ass injury. And as much as
we like the idea of all these quarterbacks playing deep
(09:12):
into their thirties and forties, now they're still outliers in
the history of this game. I mean, they are still
a very select number of guys. And this was a
severe injury, Jason. This was not a hey, I pulled
a hammy and they held me out for consideration. No,
he was shirtless with a chain on when it mattered.
(09:32):
That's how bad it was that he couldn't get back
out the field.
Speaker 1 (09:36):
I mean, I shake my head when I see that.
When I see pundits and experts as well, Cousins is
the guy. You're crazy and it's people that I respect people.
I go why because the falcons are telling you that
publicly Cousins is a guy Pennix isn't gonna play. I mean,
haven't you seen foot You've watched football. People cover football.
They know enough. You know how it's going. You know,
(09:56):
when the falcons say something like that, they're not telling
you that. What are they get I tell you, Hey,
Penix's gonna play early?
Speaker 3 (10:02):
Wait?
Speaker 1 (10:02):
What really? Yeah? Put that out there. We want that
around the team. And if Kirk Cousins thinks Penix plays early,
don't sit here and tell me something that you know
is not true, right, don't tell don't tell me that
he's not gonna play again, Kirk Cousins. There's a lot
of things going on. Yes, they signed him to be
the guy, but then they realized in the draft, hey,
we can go get Michael Pennick Junior. And I'm sure
(10:22):
it was all of a twenty minute conversation about what
do we do with his money? Can we spin him
off in the off season? What if we don't, let's
do it, Let's get Michael Pennick Junior. And in the
beginning it was yes, Kirk Cousins will play this year,
Pennix will play later on. But what if we told
you for the last few months. That's a great thing
and a great thought in theory, And that's a great
thought in April. But as time goes on and the
(10:44):
teams hit the field. There are many different variables that
happened that are gonna cause that to be not true,
and chief among them are how Kirk Cousins comes back
from injury mentally, Is he there to be the leader,
because even a couple weeks ago we heard he was
still upset that Pennix Junior is over his shoulder if
he plays poorly. Are you gonna really sit there and
keep playing Kirk Cousins and not put Penix out there? No,
(11:07):
of course not Why Because Pennix has shown the NFL
is not too big for me. I can make big throws.
He has impressed coaching staff and his teammates in practice.
Pennick Junior's time is coming soon, and it's not gonna
be something where the team is gonna be upset about.
They know he's the future, and there's no reason to
postpone it. So I mean, even today leading up to this, hey,
Pennick's not gonna play, But that's okay. Cousins is a
(11:28):
guy I just shake myn and go okay. All I
can do is tell you how it's gonna go, because
you know, I've seen five minutes of football. And I
understand that this is how things are gonna play out,
that if Kirk Cousins is bad early by week four,
it's Michael Pennix Junior. And yeah, then Kirk Cousins had
to what do we do? Is he gonna stay? But
that's how it's gonna go. They're not gonna sit here.
(11:48):
Do you honestly see there be a scenario where Kirk
Cousins stinks it up where he's not the same guy
and they just let Michael Pennix Junior sit on the
sideline and not play. Really, the call for it to
happen from either of the fans, from the media, from
the coaching staff, from the other players is gonna be
too great to ignore. I mean, I mean, people know
(12:11):
that what's said in April and May sounds great, but
then when the footballs fly for real, it's all different.
Everything is different. That's how this is gonna go. And
I'm telling you Pennix is not playing because the Falcons
know we may need him way earlier than we're saying.
We're trying to keep a lid on everything. Now, Kirk
is our guy. Michael's gonna take over all just like
(12:32):
the Steelers want to say, oh Ron Russell Wilson's our
guy and justph no, it's not how it goes. You know,
when you actually see them play, there are variables and
like they they're not accounting for them, and no one is.
But trust me, this is the reality the situation. Michael
Pennix Junior a guy everybody wants to see. If Cousins
is bad, we're gonna see him really early in.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
The season now, just to since you went down the
Steeler Highway, just to just to make note, neither of
those guys are showing that they're really good right now.
Yah know, Mike Tomlin and company, they may really not
know and they may just.
Speaker 1 (13:04):
Default to the old.
Speaker 3 (13:08):
Lifo last in, first out, so doesn't get the job,
so old accounting the theory. So Russell gets to do
it again based on the fact that they screwed him
over by make them do the blocking slid.
Speaker 1 (13:21):
But either way, they're both bad. So what you're telling
me is the Steelers only have one problem with quarterback.
They got one problem. They only have one problem with quarterback,
and that's they both stink. The Stealers have one problem.
That's all that does appear to solve that problem. Yeah,
you'll be fine.
Speaker 3 (13:35):
And does appear that that is within the realm of possibility,
as in ninety five percent certainty, kind of like we're
doing old math, right, Hey, I gotta have an error
rate of less than five percent. Now back to the
falcus for a second again. You know, if Captain Kirk
plays well and they're moving the ball and they score points,
you can stave that off a while, right, And Michael
(13:56):
Pennix continues to grow, He's in the quarterback room.
Speaker 1 (13:58):
Et cetera.
Speaker 3 (13:59):
But eventually the break, the last in case of emergency's
gonna happen. Kirk Cousins is not playing seventeen games this year.
I don't care how good that offensive line is, right,
I mean, what do we have. We had a handful
of guys that were able to get through unscathed a
year ago. I don't see Cousins as being one of those,
and I think people have underestimated the significance of that injury.
(14:19):
But with Penix, you've got the guy that is your future,
and you've been talking about him in glowing terms and
in between the lines and sitting him down. These last
couple of weeks showed you everything you need to know.
About what they feel they have at the backup and
eventual displacement of Captain Kirk. So if it goes south,
they'll cut him loose. They're not beholding to him. That
(14:41):
money's got paid out. He got his contract money and
now it's just dead cap.
Speaker 1 (14:47):
Trust me, we are way closer to the beginning of
the Michael Pennix Junior era than you think we're there.

the Braves winning extra innings and am ready the Mets
are down four zip to the padres. I'm like, you know, I.
Speaker 3 (17:18):
Gotta say flipping around uh the station. I was driving home. Uh,
after a little bit of a soccer soccer work guy
with kid and our guy Rich Ornberger on the wait
let's wait, wait.
Speaker 1 (17:28):
No way, no way, Now let's get it right your
daughter worked out. You watched. I got a share.
Speaker 3 (17:34):
I had to shag balls, so I got some running in.
Let's get its high grass too, so Mike's gotta work.
It was high.
Speaker 1 (17:41):
I had to run through.
Speaker 3 (17:43):
High knees. I was Russell Wilson high knees.
Speaker 1 (17:46):
Baby. The grass, the grass is too high. I can't
see over the ground.
Speaker 3 (17:51):
Well, what was funny is they they cut the field right,
so they trimmed along there and the other was still
probably a good, I don't know, six inches. So I
think I just decided he was done.
Speaker 1 (18:02):
For the day.
Speaker 3 (18:03):
I'm standing behind the net and I'm like, it's too hot.
Speaker 1 (18:07):
Where's you supposed to cut the whole ground? Yeah, but
it was.
Speaker 3 (18:10):
So hot, I'm done with it.
Speaker 1 (18:12):
But anyway, I got rich Orberger.
Speaker 3 (18:14):
I mean he was doing a pregame tailgate thing for
the Mets, and yeah, yeah, you know, he really had
some some mooze stuff going on there. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (18:23):
Pat McFee did the tailgate today. You see that I did.
It's gonna be a fun time.
Speaker 3 (18:30):
And Iron Boy, Hey, you know what you lean into
your surroundings. I mean, there used to be red wine
Fridays around here on Fox Sports.
Speaker 1 (18:40):
Right, Yeah, yeah, you know.
Speaker 3 (18:42):
I guarantee those didn't end very well.
Speaker 1 (18:44):
No, No, they didn't, they didn't. I guarantee you this. Okay,
the pat Max just just really quick because it was
so unbelievable today, I guarantee you there is a big
Without knowing anything, I don't I haven't talked to anybody,
but just knowing what it's like from working there, being
inside the building, I guarantee to you it is like
Godzilla versus King Kong. There, But what do we do
about this? Like? What do we do? We're ESPN and
(19:07):
here's what He's just showing up on the show and
doing a I guarantee there, what do we do? We
gotta do something. We can't do anything. We gotta do
something weekend. I guarantee you that's gonna be the entire weekend.
Speaker 3 (19:16):
It's gonna be and we can't do anything. We paid
him a lot of money. We just re upped him
for college game day. Other than Steven A. Smith, he's
our number one guy. There's nothing happens here.
Speaker 1 (19:28):
There's a lot of people going I'm just turning my
phone off for the weekend because I just want to
I want to put my head through a wall.
Speaker 3 (19:33):
Going high to the eh, you know, hey have fun
with it. Different ways to do radio. But yeah, the
Mats are down four and nothing top of it.
Speaker 1 (19:40):
Yeah, I know, I know. Down three nothing are the
Raiders the final game of the night in the NFL preseason.
And this is interesting because the forty nine ers are
playing a lot of starters tonight, including Brock Purty, who
is still out there midway through the first quarter. Just
had a big completion at George Kittle had a big
completion of Debo. Samuel did a nice little toe tap
(20:02):
and a Beckham like catch along the sideline early in
the first quarter. So I am just look. I told
you last I would never play Party and it was
stupid they played him last week. It's indefensible to play
him behind three backup offensive linemen. At least you're playing
most of the starters tonight. I still would never have
played brock Purty. I stn't think it's stupid, but at
least he looks like he's in the position to succeed
(20:22):
tonight because they have guys in front of him that
are gonna be in front of him Week one against
the Jets. So at least there's that.
Speaker 3 (20:28):
I do appreciate the One of the passes he just
completed was to Kittle, but it was one of those
you turn back and throw to the left another two steps.
He was getting planted on his ass because there was
a defender that was bearing down on him. Like, yeah,
I don't know that that's the player that takes some
extra time to run in the preseason. Let's just play straight,
(20:49):
you know, a gap B gap, some quick outs and
be done calling a night.
Speaker 1 (20:54):
No, well, we'll see how that goes Monday night against
the Jets. We'll see how that goes in a couple
weeks on Monday Night, we'll see see if that pass
gets come pleaded. You're being Jets, Go Jets, Jets Jet. Well,
that's who they play. Can't change the schedule.
Speaker 3 (21:06):
That's the first game. No, No, I can add on.
The audio played back your inflection. There was not professional broadcast.
Speaker 1 (21:14):
Come on, we were just talking about what happened on
on McAfee shows a professional broadcast. We look awesome, man,
are you kidding?
Speaker 5 (21:21):
Come on dude, now, Uh look, crazy story out of
college football today, and of course it involves Colorado, and
of course it does Wait.
Speaker 3 (21:33):
Which part are we doing?
Speaker 1 (21:34):
Are we doing? Are we doing the recruiting? No, no, no,
we gotta do we you know, we gotta do d
Come on, man, come on, dude. Colorado banned a Denver
Post columnist from asking questions of football coach Deon Sanders
and other members of the football program. The school. Confirming
this story today, uh Sean Keeler, according to Colorado, puts
(21:55):
out a statement saying that after a series of sustained
personal attacks on the football program and specifically coach Prime.
So here it is in the official response they write
coach Prime, not Coach Sanders.
Speaker 3 (22:07):
Not because he officially changed coach Prime.
Speaker 1 (22:09):
He's coach Prime. He's coach Prime. Now that Sean Keeler
is no longer allowed to ask questions at football related events,
he's permitted to attend as a credentialed member of the media.
Other members of the Denver Post can ask questions. However
he cannot. This is a band that is indefinite. And
(22:30):
now before we get to the meat of this, you know,
there's sometimes there's certain things that I read. It's really
hard for me to to read stories like this. Is
why when when I read at night in the books,
I like, it's hard for me to read comedy books
because I like thrillers, and I like mysteries and and
and and and and literary. It's hard for me to
read comedy because sometimes I just don't get the comedy
(22:51):
on the page right. It just doesn't It just doesn't
hit me that way. That's just not the way my
brain is wired. Like comedy, I need to see it
and talk it and speak it and feel it. That's
how I feel about it. But sometimes when I read
something and I'm laughing so hard, I have to stop.
And that was today when I was reading the story
about Sean Keeller getting banned because according to the Denver Post,
(23:12):
Colorado said, look, these are the references that we took
issue with what Keeler has said and what he's called
Dion Sanders in his columns, and they include calling the
Colorado program a circus, the Dion kool Aid Planet Prime deposition,
Dion a false prophet, the Bruce Lee of BS, and
(23:37):
I just I can't.
Speaker 3 (23:38):
Got his many days as Ben.
Speaker 1 (23:39):
Maller now, I know he's like when they were introducing
Apollo and Rocky, the King of Staying, the Count of
Monte Fisto, disaster, nicknames, Patience down and it's almost over.
Like when I got to Deposition Dion and the Bruce
Lee of BS, like I'm laughing. I'm still laughing now,
and I've read this story.
Speaker 3 (23:58):
Like ten times today.
Speaker 1 (24:01):
I just walk away going, can you imagine if you're
the Colorado guy and you have to call the Denver Post,
do you have the editor online whoever else you're talking
to with the publisher? Yes, these are the statements that
we disagree, calling him Deposition Dion, Planet Prime. We object
to that. We object to the Bruce Lee of BS,
(24:21):
we object.
Speaker 3 (24:22):
To the Dion cool.
Speaker 1 (24:23):
Like if you're sitting in the Denver Post, You're like,
we're really in this meeting, this is really happening. I
just look and I don't know. I think Bruce Leeve
BS is my favorite, just because it's so random, Like,
wait a minute, Bruce Leeves, what was that column about
that suddenly that way that was out there? I mean,
Deposition Dion's pretty good too, Planet Prime. But when I
(24:44):
just see them all and I'm just picturing them reading
the thing, Here's what I don't like what you called me.
Here's some of the nicknames that I disagree with, And
it's just so unbelievably entertaining. I can't stop. Really, I
can't even look at him now. I have to do
the rest of the story and I can't look at
the names anymore or I will just start laughing. So
I'm not looking at the names.
Speaker 3 (25:02):
I mean, is he gonna have waffer thin skin? Now?
I mean, like, how do we get just because the
fact that you're going out of the way to band Look,
it's all you're right. You can say, hey, you're you're
not treating the program with respect, and now you're lampooning
what we're doing here. I get it, you're getting in
your fields and what have you. But I'd love to
(25:22):
be on that call because you know, there's so many
in the administration. Look what we did this, this is
what we've been reduced to. We're having calls with the
Denver Post to say that one of their reporters. Reporters
cannot get a question in. You can attend, but you
can't ask the question because you decided to have a
little bit of fun in the column. God forbid, you
(25:44):
have a little bit of fun, you know when talking
about sports and the guy and the guy in the
press release that needs to be sent out is addressed
as coach Prime. Haven't we already entered the absurdity if
he doesn't want to be called by his surname. All right,
I get it, he's got coach Prime. He's still doing
(26:04):
a ton of commercials. I hear his voice all the time,
howking different products. And that's all fine and good as
part of I mean, and the bravado is part of
who Dion's been forever with. That usually comes some level
of acknowledgment of there's gonna be detractors and people that
are gonna take their shots. And if any of those
names Bruce Lee a bs, if that's somehow offensive, I
(26:29):
think we've really hit a new age of again waffer
finn skin being the operative term here.
Speaker 1 (26:38):
Well you're ready for this, Yeah, go ahead for this.
I'll tell you this. I wonder if this is his
last year as a head coach in football. I wonder
if last year as a head coach in football? All right,
think about think about this. He obviously cannot take criticism.
That's the one. Like he can't take it. Like he
can't take it. He's one of those guys. Yeah, I
(26:58):
guarantee is always surrounded by people that tell him yes,
anybody says anything, hey, you know, hey, the offensive line,
nor do you either anybody you say anything that is
reality about Colorado, about coach back and he gets mad
about it. And now here he is, now here's someone
who is critical of me. I'm not gonna allow him
to ask questions, right, I mean, that's you said thin
(27:19):
skin and that's a really big deal. Right. But obviously
he can't take criticism, and he knows this doesn't help him.
This doesn't He knows that, hey, if I don't win
this year in Colorado, are they gonna fire me? Are
they gonna say that they're gonna want Because it's a circus, right,
I mean it has been. It's been. It's been every day.
It's been all kinds of drama with players leaving and
coming and going and winning and losing it. It's been
(27:42):
like every day I feel like is like a week
at Colorado. He knows that this is not helping him,
and he knows that if he doesn't win in Colorado
this year, he may be out. He also knows that
this doesn't help his future because if this is who
he is, tell me a school that's gonna say, hey, Dion,
come coach us, tell me an NFL team that's gonna say, hey, Dion,
(28:03):
come coach us, because we'll take whatever attitude you have
if you win. Remember, everybody, Dion was great the first
month of the season. Last going into the season, in
the first month, Dion was awesome. He was like the
pied piper. He had former NFL stars that wanted to
come coach at Colorado. Everybody wanted to be into It
was the next big thing. And then what happened. Then
they started losing because they weren't good enough and they
(28:25):
went in the tank. They didn't even make a bowl game.
Dion started getting upset at press conferences all the time
because he can't take criticism. This is not a great look.
And Dion's in the position that he knows that, hey,
people have to hire him, They have to want to
hire him. And if he's looking at his resume now,
it could be two bad years at Colorado and all
(28:46):
kinds of controversy and stories about guns and lawyers and
money and bets and fights and who's gonna want him.
He's got to know this, right, He's got to know
in his heart of hearts. As much bravado as he is,
he's got to know that he is hurting whatever he
wants to do after this, which makes me wonder if
he knows, Hey, if we don't win, this is it
and I'm done.
Speaker 3 (29:06):
Wellized long ago that he was gonna be done, regardless
of being done, but being sure.
Speaker 1 (29:12):
Right, but being done and continuing to coach is one thing.
Being done and not coaching again. Now that's where we're
at because that because I don't know anybody that would
hire him if he has a bad year this year
with everything else going all with who's gonna say, yeah, Dion,
we want you a small one. You know, FCS school
is gonna do it. He's gonna want to go back.
He's got too much ego for that. He's not gonna
(29:32):
do that. I wonder if this is his last year,
because it really fits with the type of coach he is,
because he seems like a youth coach that wants to
stay with his kids as long as he can, and
then I'll stop coaching when I can't anymore, when they
get to a level that they need somebody else coaching them.
I'll coach them through Pop Warner, I'll coach them through
high school, but then they gotta go to college or
(29:53):
I'll try to get a job in college. It's like,
that's kind of what he strikes me as, I'm gonna
coach my kid, more kids as as long as I can.
Then when they're done and I can't coach him anymore,
then I'm done coaching, right, Like, that's what a lot
of youth kids, That's what a lot of youth coaches do.
And and plenty of times, hey that's okay, right, Hey,
I'm coaching. I'm giving my time. When my kid stops coaching,
that's it. That's what I do, and I get it.
(30:15):
But when you're you're this kind of guy, I mean,
that's kind of what I That's kind of how I
see him now is I can see him saying, yeah,
they're done, Shadora's gone, He's gone to the NFL, number
one pick in the draft, whatever it's going to be.
I'm done. I'm done to Colorado. It's not working. All
this is happening, and he's not coaching anymore. So I'm
at that point where I'm looking saying, this is probably
his last year coaching, and I don't know who hires
(30:37):
him if he has a bad year of Colorado.
Speaker 3 (30:40):
Yeah, in the end, you know, I understand the respect
and you know, I guess to some level historically deferential
to coaches. Well, we're in a new new age, like
we've talked about and how you handle players. Going back
to everything that went on with Flores and Tua, same
thing with coaches. They got to understand, you know, columnists
have always you know, being acid tongued would be the
(31:04):
kind way to say it and salty, particularly as the
season goes on and a season goes sideways, and so
having a little bit of fun and not just putting
coach Prime because even look the reporters may have a
problem with that. But to go back to last year
Sean Lewis, which extole the virtues of what he was
doing offensively the early part of the season, he started
to get a name, and guess what, the offensive line
(31:25):
fell apart. Chaudeur started getting pummeled, and all of a
sudden he got stripped of play calling and now he's
not even there. So he's a head coach elsewhere.
Speaker 1 (31:33):
So you've got that going for you.
Speaker 3 (31:35):
But yeah, it just seems to be the pattern. So
if you see coach Prime, give him a hug from us,
and I hope for better days.
Speaker 1 (31:44):
Yeah, I mean, I really, I'm when I look at
it from that perspective of maybe he knows it's his
last year and I'm gonna do whatever the hell I
want to. I'm gonna do it my way. And that's it.
And Shadeur's gone and Shiloh and everything. I'm done. I'm
done and I'm finished. And if we lose, we lose.
If we win, we win, Hey, whatever happens. But I'm ready.
I'm okay knowing I can. I can not coach after
this year, and that's gonna be.
Speaker 3 (32:05):
It is some of this the also the type of
relationships you may have where you go and you fight
and then you finally say I'm done, like I'm not
even gonna respond anymore. And this is Dion's way of
I'm not even gonna dignify that with the response, but
taking you know, kind of the easy way out instead
of asking your question, I nod at you and I
(32:26):
say next, We're just it's like the intentional walk in baseball.
Now we don't even have to throw the four pitches,
all right, just put them on same thing here, all right,
ask your silly question. All right, I'm done.
Speaker 1 (32:39):
Next exit out About a Fresca exit swollen down The
Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmon live from the tirec

Seven five Baltimore Beach Houston for Santander. That is thirty
eight home runs and he's betting two thirty eight. The

first in the AL Central, two games over Kansas City
and Minnesota. Kansas City is winning seven to three against
the Phillies top of the eighth, but Minnesota is losing
at home to the Cardinals six to one Saint Louis
(34:23):
in the bottom of the eighth. Tigers lead at the
White Sox four to two in the top of the ninth.
If the White Sox lose, they will be thirty one

five to one at Oakland in the top of the fourth.

of the third. Eleven hits for the Padres, already none
for the Mets. Ray's lead at Dodger Stadium two nothing
(34:45):
going to the third, and the Giants are had one
nothing at Seattle top of the third. Yesterday, the Mariners
fired their manager and their hitting coach. Edgar Martinez is
Seattle's hitting coach now for the rest.
Speaker 1 (34:57):
Of the year.
Speaker 6 (34:57):
Adam Scott leads by three strokes at the p playoff
in Colorado. Hideki Matsuyama withdrew with a bad back. Among
the four WNBA games tonight, Angel rees for Chicago in defeat,
had twenty rebounds. Connecticut wins at home eighty two to eighty.
In the NFL exhibitions, there are three it is forty
nine ers, ten nothing leaders at Las Vegas late in
(35:19):
the first quarter Jake Moody with a forty nine yard
field goal. Tampa Bay beat Miami twenty four to fourteen,
and Jacksonville won easily thirty one nothing in Atlanta.
Speaker 1 (35:28):

Speaker 1 (36:03):
The Jason Smith Show with My best friend Mike Harmon. Yes, Sir,
Live from the ti raq dot Com studios and hang on,
I'm just waiting for something. I want to see Brock
Purdy get up. I want to see Brock Purty get up. Uh,
I want to see Brock Purdy get up. Brock Purty
(36:25):
throws a ball that is picked by the Raiders. Raiders
run it back. Purdy comes in to make the tackle,
goes down on his left shoulder, and they have cut
to commercial. How do you cut to commercial? Oh? I'm
hoping Brock pertys okay. I mean, I don't know that
he's not. I'm not saying he is, but I hope
he's okay. He went in and made the tackle and
(36:47):
he jumped in led with his left shoulder. I am
hoping Brock Perdy is okay. We'll have more on this
coming up in a few minutes. It's a terrible tackling attempt.
Oh boy, what are you doing preseason? Let him go,
let him go. Hey, all right, I'll tack you during
the season. Just go up the sideline. That's fine, I
unders just go turn down the sideline. And then he
(37:07):
comes sprinting into the screen and you're like, don't do that.
Speaker 3 (37:11):
Don't do that. And now we're at commercial break and
we tic tick tick tick tick.
Speaker 1 (37:19):
Uh. So again, we'll let you know how that goes.
Hopefully he is okay. Meanwhile, you know, we we like
to do this once in a while here. We like
to bring you positivity on a Friday, and we like
to have appreciation moments for things in sports that are
just awesome. And we got that today from the Buffalo Bills.
You know, you see this once in a while where
(37:40):
some kind of broadcast and he will set up a
camera at someone at a practice or at at some
sort of event and just get people walking by asking
them random questions like Hey, who's your favorite TV dad? Right,
And people walk by and say, oh, Tom Bosley is
my favorite dad. Right. But there was a camera set
up at Bill's practice and it got people walking by.
(38:04):
The Bills are walking off the field, after practice and
it was just somebody yell, hey, give me the name
of a random NBA player, right, because you know, hey,
saying around naming random dudes is something that guys we
love to do, and that's one of my big guy
things that I like, Like, I love doing that, right,
So we.
Speaker 3 (38:19):
Don't do that enough with ushers, actresses and random musical acts.
Speaker 1 (38:24):
Yeah, I mean just just saying I mean, it's so
much fun. Like Fabiano and Elliott Harris and I do
that all the time, and it's so much fun. I'm
not one for Hey, this is kind of this is
kind of a boy like a grown guy thing. No,
this is a complete guy thing that I love doing.
I completely love doing this, just naming random guys. Oh so,
(38:44):
so here is some of the Bills players coming off
the field and they are naming random NBA players and
first round pick key On Coleman is the guy who decides,
I'm gonna stay here in front of the camera and
talk to some of my teammates about guys they are naming.
Take a listen.
Speaker 3 (39:02):
Jason Richardson say Boddy I already said that he didn't.
That's I did, didn't I.
Speaker 1 (39:07):
Say, Mike Miller I said that, Wow House, Wow, great,
Larry is.
Speaker 3 (39:17):
Junior te Chip I ain't said, I said, Jeff T. J.
Speaker 1 (39:22):
Johnson, him up man, Marcus Camdon.
Speaker 3 (39:26):
JUNI is down in JUNI through he played big man for.
Speaker 7 (39:29):
The rat, I said man Zach Randall, Brandy, Solomon Hill, Breen,
Uh huh.
Speaker 3 (39:39):
They hold you got litt rings, hold on, hold on
Slopberry Stopberry was different. Thought that the beat man. You
ain't count No mass was love neuralist, no.
Speaker 7 (39:52):
Whel Anthony bid it, Stanley Johnson, Bryan's gotta break, I said.
Speaker 1 (39:58):
Mike Miller right here, Thank you. Didn't Mike Miller over
Mike Miller. I mean that was like three minute video,
I know, right, like Josh Allen comes walking off Jonas
Valanchut instead. Well, I mean that was so much fun
to watch. And now I want to trade for Keon
Coleman in every Fantasy league just because I love the
(40:18):
fact he's, okay, I'm in charge of this, Like he
runs by it and he says a name, and then
he just says, no, I'm gonna make sure that these
guys are legit, Like I'm gonna starbury on and a
Starburry was a little bit bigger can't say Starbury. He
was min Stefan Marbury wasn't just a random NBA guy.
It's guys like Mike Miller, Stanley Johnson. Some of the
name Cliff Levingston was thrown out there too. I mean,
I watched this out like this is like four minutes.
(40:40):
I couldn't get I wanted to be twenty minutes. I'm
just watching this is just awesome content. And the fact
that Keon Coleman knows so many players, like just off
the top, like who they are, Like none of these
guys are in his wheelhouse, Like none of these guys
all played when he was growing up. These are all
guys from like ten years before he was probably watching basketball,
and he still knew them all off the time top
of his head. That was fun.
Speaker 3 (41:01):
Scalabriniis Anthony Bennett. We were getting deep, deep cuts there,
and the rules of engagement were that it had to
be random.
Speaker 1 (41:14):
This is great.
Speaker 3 (41:15):
This comes off the heels of the jets one I
sent you the other day, which was, you know, talking
about what's overrated, and it was anything from food to experiences.
Aaron Rodgers looked at the camera and just said, training camp.
This is great stuff. Does that make you want to go,
don't dive through a table?
Speaker 1 (41:37):
Oh well, I don't know about that. I don't know
that I'm rooting for them. I'm rooting for Keyon Coleman
and want to try to trade from in fantasy. That's
someone that did. Coming up next, we got a big
story out of the NFL coming your way. This is
Fox Sports Radio.
