Speaker 1 (00:27):
Hello, Welcome inside, Happy Friday, The Jason Smith Show with
my bas friend Mike Harmon. Hobo where right now, everybody's
getting a little tight, little wondering Duke fans waving there,
Troy pom poms right now, going, come on, Troy, see
this through it. Maybe we can go to the college
(00:48):
football playoff if we win tomorrow. All of a sudden,
Mike Harmon, all the posturing, everything back and forth, We're
coming down to it. The next twenty four hours are
going to be absolutely huge.
Speaker 3 (00:59):
We could see.
Speaker 1 (00:59):
Teams like Alabama get left out. The door could be
open for Duke if they win. Now, all the posturing
that we've heard all week, all the hey, here's our resume,
here's what we've done, here's this, here's that.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
Now we get to the games.
Speaker 4 (01:13):
See how chesty people get over the next twenty four hours,
how many of their sycophants start writing more missives or
hit to TikTok or Instagram videos. Hey, let me give
you one more point about why I love this squad
and why my team And then they accidentally show too
(01:34):
much of their sec tattoo or whatever that starts to
come through Notre Dame colors dress up like a leprecha
on whatever the case may be. This one also interesting
because Troy was a twenty three and a half point
dog in this game, and James Madison can just create
no separation at this point.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
Yeah, listen, this is a big deal because you know, Duke, Obviously,
the ACC is the big center of dramas there is
with Alabama and George as well, because Alabama is on
the cusp of potentially being left out depending how that
game goes tomorrow. But the ACC title game, which no
one's gonna watch Virginia and Duke. Duke gets seven and five,
(02:12):
you get the automatic berth if you're one of the
top conferences, but you gotta be one of the top
conference champions as far as the rankings go, and Duke
is not going to be there, but James Madison will
be there ranked twenty fifth right now.
Speaker 3 (02:26):
But they won't be twenty.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
Fifth anymore if they lose this game Detroit and the
Sun Belt Championship. So all of a sudden, the door
is open for Duke if they pull the upset against
Virginia tomorrow to maybe be able to politic enough to
get into the college football playoff. But you gave me
an idea right there, Mike Carmon, You gave me an
idea right there, and tell me this wouldn't be a
(02:48):
must see thing, the biggest mussy thing in college football
all year.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
Okay, tell me wouldn't see Okay, Now, let me.
Speaker 1 (02:56):
Just throw this out for where we're sitting at right
now with teams that potentially could be left out, you know, understanding,
you know we still with still a game left to go,
Like I would like a two part part of this, right,
So just think about this. Right, you get the head
coaches from let's say Alabama Notre Dame. Right, you get
(03:18):
you Kaylin debor in, you get Marcus Freeman in right,
you know, you get Miami, you get Sark, you get
Texas in right, you get Mario cristoball in from Miami.
You get all You get all these schools right that
are sitting there and need to make their case to
make the playoff. Right not not not school Look schools
like Indiana, it doesn't matter if they lose. They can
lose to Ohio State tomorrow fifty six. Nothing like Indiana's
(03:41):
getting it. But you get the true four or five schools,
like the big schools that need to politic to get in, right,
that needed part to get in. We love debates in
this country. We watch all kinds of debates, watch presidential debates,
all kinds. You put all of these coaches on stage
with a moderator, okay, with a mod and you make
(04:01):
them all have to make their case for the college
football playoff. They take questions, Maybe people in the crowd
get to ask questions, They get to comment on each other. Right,
can you imagine like like Steve Sarkisian talking about, Hey,
the three top ten teams they beat. Look at this,
and then suddenly you get you get Mario Cristobaul over
the top going you lost to three team, You lost
the three teams that weren't even in the top ten.
(04:22):
What are you talking about here? You lost to a
guy who's standing right next to me, No Today, or
what you beat? No tredame who's standing right next to me? Like,
can you imagine what that would be like? You get
all these guys on stage for like an hour debate
and watch them just sweat their asses off after like
the first fifteen minutes as they try to make their
cases and make against the cases for the other schools.
Tell me that wouldn't be the biggest watched hour of
(04:43):
television college football in the year.
Speaker 4 (04:45):
Yeah, but I think the biggest thing is that at
least their opening remarks have to be done rap battle
style like in Hamilton.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
Oh okay, so I need some creativity here. I mean
there's a lot of money there, there's a lot of
preparation times.
Speaker 4 (05:00):
Just give me a couple of bullet points. That's not
gonna sell me. You gotta win me over. I mean,
full greatest showman's style, a couple of dancers, fire eaters,
whatever you got, you gotta take me. It's a TV show, right,
It's all a TV show to get into a TV show.
Speaker 5 (05:15):
So you gotta wow me with something a little more.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
Oh, come on, I just gave you a great idea now, no,
that's not good enough.
Speaker 2 (05:22):
Oh no, why rap more?
Speaker 3 (05:24):
What are you talking about? You know what?
Speaker 1 (05:25):
That's an idea for like seas so they've already got
a bunch of jackasses. They can just steal their talking points.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
I did more.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
Dude, you're at that's a season three idea. Man, you're
asking them to do a little bit too much, man,
a little bit too much.
Speaker 5 (05:37):
I asked for a little much. I did like the
idea earlier this.
Speaker 4 (05:40):
Week saying hey, can we just play one more game
to impress the pollsters.
Speaker 5 (05:45):
See, it's like we're back in old times.
Speaker 4 (05:47):
Man, come on, give us one more opportunity, put us
on the field Saturday.
Speaker 5 (05:51):
Yeah, I way to look Championship week or you.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
Know what, we have playing games in college basketball. Let's
have a playing game in college fool. You have one
in so bad? You four to be in the playing round.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
We aren't. Yes, you're in the player round?
Speaker 4 (06:02):
Were We have a month before we're gonna play any
of these games anyway?
Speaker 5 (06:05):
Why not have another week of games?
Speaker 3 (06:07):
Come on, just think about that for a second.
Speaker 1 (06:11):
Just think if that was that was how we decided
the final spots.
Speaker 3 (06:14):
Debate and who wins? And you call in like American idol.
Speaker 1 (06:17):
Yeah, let's get your post debate spin analysis, and everybody's
talking about it, and we're breaking it down after and
you get, you know, and you get what's his name
with the big with the touch screen and the map
from from CNNES is pressing stuff. Here's where I look.
Oh you look in the area right here in Miami.
This is where Mario Cristobal made a lot of send.
He gain a lot of voters here this part of Miami,
in this lower part of Alabama. But look up here
(06:39):
right here, right around South Bed. No votes coming in
right here. Nothing going on right there, and Kornacki is
just hitting the buttons and showing.
Speaker 4 (06:47):
Now if you were wowed by by Debor, I'll tell
you you know, Notre Dame is part of this though.
I mean, Freeman was on the Today Show the other
day and he was charming as hell according to the
exit polls. So I mean, you know, you had the
people that were on set with him looking uncomfortable that
he was he was winning and they were getting charmed away.
Speaker 3 (07:08):
So I'll just think about that. How great idea that
would be.
Speaker 4 (07:11):
Well, I like that though, I mean, like you can
see him sweat. Look at he's sweating. It's got like
the Nixon Kennedy debate.
Speaker 5 (07:18):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (07:18):
They should have done a better lighting job with him
over there, and they got him like he looking like
he's turning green.
Speaker 3 (07:24):
He is really sweating right there, so.
Speaker 5 (07:27):
It just doesn't look healthy.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
The biggest game of the night again, James Madison and
Troy Troy with the ball near midfield, down three eight
minutes to go in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
We'll keep you updated on this Pete fu Tech.
Speaker 1 (07:38):
We'll stop by next hour break it down for us
off a little bit more clarity following this game.
Speaker 4 (07:44):
But about the Boise State Broncos. I'm actually wearing a
Broncos hat. I was mucked by Ron Gara. I had
my Northwestern jagged. I right, I had to walk the
dog whatever, and you know, people have been sick around here,
so I'm like, I'm protecting myself at all costs here.
And then I grabbed a hat out of the car
and it was the boys. He staying, he goes, you're
repping two schools. I can't go for that. I'm like, yeah, no, what,
(08:06):
I already paid what through the nose for the other one.
I'm about to so Smurf Turf it up, Baby, twenty
eight to fourteen.
Speaker 5 (08:13):
Let's go halftime on a box.
Speaker 3 (08:15):
I mean you just look confused.
Speaker 1 (08:16):
I mean really, I gotta say I'm on Robb's side
of that.
Speaker 3 (08:19):
You look confused. You don't know what I said.
Speaker 4 (08:20):
It's better than the adoption of schools that a lot
of people do around.
Speaker 1 (08:24):
I'm just I'm just gonna wear everything in my closet
at once. See like Joey and Friends, I'm wearing all
your clothes, chamber.
Speaker 4 (08:30):
That is so not the opposite of all I Hey,
if I could have found the Santa Clara shirt, I
would have died throve on top of that one. Tom,
everybody who's gotten out of it, and you siphoned off
my money.
Speaker 5 (08:41):
Let's go so.
Speaker 3 (08:42):
We'll have more football. Odd way.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
We'll keep you updated on this game. But today was
a huge day as.
Speaker 3 (08:48):
We look ahead to the World Cup.
Speaker 1 (08:51):
Now, whatever you think about the the the.
Speaker 3 (08:54):
Spectacle that was the World Cup draw.
Speaker 4 (08:56):
What shack is? I mean, hey, I had nothing to do.
Kevin Hart was bored. It was just insane. I mean
it was to watch them going, this is the World Cup. Try,
this is what we're doing. This is how we're doing it. Okay,
this is all right TV show, let's go. Yeah, it
was really This is one of those like if.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
You watch the World Cup draw today, you like, if
you ever go to a foreign country and you watch
a TV show that's really popular and you go, what
the hell is this? I don't understand what is going
on with this thing? And you go, I don't get it.
But you know, you don't know the culture, you don't
know the any the characters, nothing else.
Speaker 3 (09:32):
It just looks really weird. I pitch you, that's what
people coming to the.
Speaker 1 (09:35):
United States and they're vacation in the United States if
they watched the World Cup drawing, going.
Speaker 5 (09:38):
What the hell is this? Who is this band singing
this song?
Speaker 1 (09:41):
And they're not even singing all the words like the
village people are singing and they're not even singing all
the words.
Speaker 4 (09:46):
They're just singing the chorus, not even all the people.
You remember, like, what is happening? The hell it's to
village people?
Speaker 5 (09:53):
The hell here? It might be transporting back.
Speaker 3 (09:56):
I watched it, going, what is what is going on here?
This is insane?
Speaker 1 (10:01):
But the good news is that and this is also
the bad news. The good news is that the United
States draw in the World Cup for next year and
probably the best. You couldn't ask for a better draw
unless you gave them a bye into the knockout round
in Group D, Australia, Paraguay and the winner of a
fourteen playoff that involves Kosovo, Romania, Slovakia and TURKEYA. I mean,
(10:26):
this is who's in our We're not group of death.
We're in the group of everlasting life. This is like, hey, everybody,
just come here and live forever.
Speaker 4 (10:37):
Look, I forget chat the rest of the rankings, but
it's like, here we go.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
We've already beaten Australian, Paraguay and friendlies when we haven't
had our whole team. And I know, look and already
you know, Mauricio Pocatino had to say, hey, hey, hey, hey,
let's not get complacent.
Speaker 3 (10:53):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (10:53):
I understand we think we're not a buye into the
knockout round, but I understand that. But I gotta be
honest with you. This is about it is that fantagious
as you can get. This is what happens when you
spend all that money to host the World Cup.
Speaker 3 (11:04):
This is what you get.
Speaker 1 (11:05):
You get a draw like this I'm sorry, but you
know what, all the other countries had stuff like this
that so now right now it's our turn. But I
gotta say this, if we don't get out a group stage, Okay,
I know we have problems, right, I know we have problems.
Speaker 3 (11:18):
I know we have some issues.
Speaker 1 (11:19):
And Bokatino's trying to figure out the right mix of guys.
And he had one one camp where it was mostly
MLS players and now you're welcoming some of the guys
back who play on the team long term, some of
the guys you remember from the last few years. Like,
he's still trying to figure out exactly who he's gonna take.
But I have confidence he's a good he's a good
head coach. He's just got to get he's just got
(11:41):
to get all the guys on his page right because
he I still think he was the right call to
go out and get to come in and put a
stamp on this team. But I got all those problems,
all that stuff might harmon all this stuff, all the problems,
all those other If we don't get out a group
playing into the knockout round, we should stop playing soccer
in this country. We sho say, you know, what we tried.
(12:01):
We tried for a long time and we just can't
do it. Man, I'm so I don't know, I don't
know what to say. But we're gonna stop all the
youth programs. We're getting rid of all of them. We're
getting rid of the MLS. We'll let them play one
more year and then they're finished. Soccer is done. We're
not gonna play. We can't play because if we can't
get out of group play right here, there's no reason
why we should continue to play this sport. This is
(12:22):
the this is the easiest draw you could possibly want
and ask for. And if we can't get out of group, man,
I mean, we're never gonna get close to winning a world.
Speaker 5 (12:31):
Now here's the thing.
Speaker 4 (12:31):
You can say, Well, we can redeploy those assets, but
go city to city, go state to state. I'm looking
at our fair state of California. Are we gonna do
anything better with that money? No, they're gonna put it
in another projects. So it's a failed multi billion dollar efforts.
So now they keep running through, double up, redouble your efforts.
In terms of money's allocated here, FIFA ranking thirty nine
(12:55):
for Paraguay is in twenty six for Australia, and then
you go on down to the rest where we were
talking about eighty forty nine, et cetera. And those games
won't be played till March. So you're looking at the
opportunity of a lifetime here the home cooking.
Speaker 5 (13:17):
However you want to go to the draw.
Speaker 4 (13:19):
And we've certainly chronicled in our years together here at
Fox Sports Radio, Jason, plenty of scandal plenty and eyebrow
raising moment related to FIFA. And here's just an example
of all right, come on, walk on through. Don't take it,
you know, don't take it too lightly. You still have
to win. You can't just get the automatic buys. Nobody's
(13:42):
dropping out. You can make all sorts of jokes people
certainly did politically in terms of how the USA could
move forward. I'll just leave that on the table. You
can all hit that on the tee if you need to.
Speaker 1 (13:55):
I think there's ways we can move on even if
we lose every game.
Speaker 3 (13:58):
I think they're gonna file out, yeah, b yeah, but.
Speaker 1 (13:59):
You know what, Hey, the United States overall, they had
more possessions. So yeah, because look all these teams, all
these teams are all parked the bus teams.
Speaker 5 (14:07):
You have the Royal sampler there.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
These are all park the bus teams that shouldn't be
able to score with us that that look, maybe it's
a little bit more of but these are not teams
that have any sort of firepower whatsoever. Right, these these
are these are park the bus teams.
Speaker 3 (14:21):
I mean, we can't if we can't get out of group. Man,
I don't, I don't know, I really, I.
Speaker 1 (14:26):
Mean everything soccer even cancel stuff that's got a black
and white ball, just getting so nobody gets that bad
memory of I.
Speaker 3 (14:32):
Saw soccer ball. We think you cancel all of it.
Can't cancel everything. We're not gonna do it.
Speaker 4 (14:36):
Yeah, but we we actually have kids that get out
and have some exercise, doesn't matter, become video gamers.
Speaker 1 (14:43):
We'll find something else. They'll all go play baseball. Now
we'll go back and play baseball.
Speaker 2 (14:47):
You know what they'll do.
Speaker 3 (14:48):
They'll all go they'll all go play pickleball. They'll all
the no, no, no, it'sin pickleball. Still going. There's professional
pickle ball. We would win.
Speaker 5 (15:00):
Of golf where it's gone. Golf had that giant swell.
Speaker 4 (15:07):
Yeah, I don't hear people getting the links near literally
as much casually as they once did. I mean, you
saw what happened when they we had the great invention
of Hey, you could just go down the street. I mean,
we got this place where you can hit balls deep
into the night. Oh wait, no, no, no, now it's
that's only corporate events. I can't afford to go there.
Speaker 5 (15:28):
So that's gone, all right, The.
Speaker 1 (15:32):
Out priced Top Golf is making a lot of money.
Drink a beer, hit some balls. Oh sure, Top Golf.
Speaker 4 (15:38):
Is doing Go go go look at the financials on
top Golf and tell me that that's the case.
Speaker 1 (15:43):
Top Golf is doing fine. Let me see Top Golf financials.
Oh wait a minute, Top Golf four oh four file
not found.
Speaker 5 (15:55):
We haven't quite hit that.
Speaker 4 (15:57):
But it's it's it's not the the burgeoning growth industry.
Speaker 3 (16:02):
Here we go. Four point two year over year increase
from last year.
Speaker 1 (16:05):
Their revenue's fourner at seventy two million a quarter three
of twenty twenty five. And I didn't look this up.
I knew this off the top of my head. I
was just waiting to say it. I mean they got
like a one percent increase in same venue sales. I
mean that's a you know it's coming after a longer
trend they had of declining same venue sales. But now
for the full year they've raised their revenue to be
between three point eighty six billion three point nine two billion.
Speaker 3 (16:26):
Again, I know all this off the top of my head.
Speaker 5 (16:28):
No, that's that was really good. You want to get
some lines in there while you're at it.
Speaker 3 (16:33):
Oh, since this was ai, everything I just said not proven.
Speaker 5 (16:37):
Just make sure people know that it's well played.
Speaker 4 (16:41):
Well played, my friend. But yeah, for all of it,
it's it's now just it's winning time, right. You got
a couple of games here. One of the parents in
the Maddie's soccer group goes, Hey, and a couple of
games here in La I go. He just offered to
buy us all tickets.
Speaker 5 (16:59):
He's sting. So there you go. I'll see if I
can get chin.
Speaker 1 (17:04):
So again, we'll stop play stop. That's what I would
threaten everybody with. If we don't win, we don't get
out of group. We're not there's no more soccer.
Speaker 5 (17:10):
But I I thought it was another generation or two away.
Speaker 3 (17:14):
You'd be like, you'd be like Phil Dunfield.
Speaker 1 (17:15):
We'll be like Phil Dunphie in modern family, Christmas is
canceled we can't cancel.
Speaker 3 (17:20):
I'm canceling Christmas. Christmas. He pulls the tree out, get
it A Christmas is canceled.
Speaker 4 (17:24):
You just build the giant dome over the States like
they did in the Simpsons movie. And you have no
idea what's going on in the outside world that that
game no longer counts exit?
Speaker 1 (17:35):
How about a Fresca exit swelling dome. Jason Smith Mike
Harmon live from the tirerac dot com studios.
Speaker 3 (17:41):
Just so people know. Wayne Knight is the big running
back from James Madison.
Speaker 1 (17:45):
So just so people understand, when he gets into the
end zone, people say, hello Newman.
Speaker 3 (17:50):
You know what it's all about.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
Still seventeen fourteen, JM you with the lead and the
football five minutes.
Speaker 3 (17:56):

Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon.
Speaker 3 (19:12):
And it looks like James Madison gonna win this game
over Troy.
Speaker 1 (19:18):
They might not cover, although another fumble returned for a
touchdown or a pick six, and it could actually happen
James Madison. With Troy facing a fourth and eighteen sack
fumble returned for a score. JMU now leads at thirty
one fourteen with three and a half to go in
(19:38):
the fourth quarter, and right now, Troy's head coach is
absolutely losing his mind on the sideline against the officials.
He is having to be separated from them. He is screaming.
I don't know what he's screaming about. We had James
Madison get the touchdown. He I can't believe they haven't
thrown a flag on him yet. He is just absolutely
(20:00):
out of control right now again, thirty one fourteen.
Speaker 3 (20:03):
The Sun Belt Championship with three minutes left to go.
She's gonna go to James Madison.
Speaker 4 (20:07):
Yeah, Jared Parker was so animated. They never even showed
a replay of anything. They just got the camera on
him like he's.
Speaker 1 (20:15):
I mean that that shot better than any WWE promo
of the last five years right there.
Speaker 3 (20:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (20:22):
I mean, now, it's it's hard to it's hard to
tell because we we're watching, you know, we're not listening
to the broadcast.
Speaker 3 (20:28):
But it's a clean strip sack and fumble.
Speaker 5 (20:31):
Uh it literally dropped the ball.
Speaker 1 (20:34):
Yeah, it's a clean pickup of the football and running
for a touchdown.
Speaker 3 (20:38):
So I don't know what it is.
Speaker 1 (20:39):
I mean, look, there's been a lot of situations of
fans throwing snowballs on the field tonight.
Speaker 3 (20:43):
I mean that could be it. I don't know us.
As a guy who was at the.
Speaker 1 (20:47):
Original snowball game Penn State and Michigan back in nineteen
ninety five, I could tell you started upset.
Speaker 3 (20:54):
No I did not.
Speaker 5 (20:55):
I did you participate? No, Well, because as far as
you know, I didn't.
Speaker 1 (21:00):
As far as I know, I didn't know what was
happening because we we were at the like, it's a
very famous game now, the snow but you can find it.
Joe Paterno gets on the mic. It's a late November
game and it's the fra. Pam and I had just
started dating and it was our first we went to
Michigan Penn State. We were both living in in Connecticut
working for ESPN. You know, it's first time we took
(21:20):
a trip as a couple, and we met her aunt
and uncle who.
Speaker 3 (21:24):
Are basically they based.
Speaker 1 (21:25):
She basically grew up as her sister and we're extremely
close with them to this day. First time I met
them and we go to the game and it's a
big game and Penn State wins the game.
Speaker 3 (21:34):
But the big deal was it was absolutely one of.
Speaker 1 (21:37):
The worst experiences I've ever had go into a game
because it was so incredibly cold and slush and sleet
and snow, and you know, you have to get to
Happy Valley eight hours before kickoff because you're not just
walking into that state.
Speaker 5 (21:49):
Yeah, that plain to get to Yes, Oh my.
Speaker 3 (21:53):
Goodness, was that rough.
Speaker 1 (21:54):
And so we get there and it's it's really I mean,
we're there, like again the game is it at three
third and we're there, I think at nine thirty, I'm like,
this is my and it's just so cold and snowy,
and my feet were froze. I think my feet were
in water and ice the entire game.
Speaker 3 (22:08):
It was just it was just awful.
Speaker 1 (22:10):
And midway the late part of the game, Penn State's
winning and there you kind of realize they're gonna win
the game. Michigan gets in, they score a touchdown, and
fans just unload with snowballs on on Michigan's receiver.
Speaker 3 (22:24):
It might have been.
Speaker 1 (22:24):
Mercury Hayes that they were throwing snowballs at and they
were just pelting him with snow. It was like, oh
my goodness, like because we could see it all the
way down at the end and the PA announcer gets
on and says, you know, reminder to please stop throwing
snowballs onto the field of the players, which is basically saying, hey, guys,
just grab those snowballs and just unload.
Speaker 3 (22:43):
Right. So there's more.
Speaker 1 (22:44):
There's another moment where Michigan's driving and there's a there's
a playdown. It's a I think it's a fourth down
incomplete pass near the end zone, and again the snowballs.
Speaker 3 (22:52):
Come flying out. It's like, oh my, this is insane.
Speaker 1 (22:55):
And Joe Paterno runs up and grabs a microphone from
one of the refreeze and goes, hey, stop throwing snowballs
out of the field and playing what are you doing?
Like oh wow, this is oh my goodness, I'm seeing
news happen in front of me right now. And so
it's a really big thing. He brands down, gets on
the thing, and everybody stopped after that, because you know,
this is before all the all the stuff about Joe
(23:15):
Paterno and the Penn State program and subsequent years came out.
This is when Joe Paul was, you know, one of
the most beloved guys in the world, one of the
most beloved college football coaches.
Speaker 3 (23:23):
We had seen he did.
Speaker 1 (23:24):
Everybody's like, okay, I'm stopping and nobody else throw a
snowball like that was it?
Speaker 3 (23:28):
It's like, wow, he's got it. He's got a lot
of power here.
Speaker 5 (23:30):
Oh no, you want to talk about Yeah, no question
about it.
Speaker 4 (23:34):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (23:34):
But yeah, but there was another warning for snowballs at
the game today and after the after the last touchdown,
there were some snowballs thrown on the field.
Speaker 3 (23:42):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (23:43):
Today we had the the a D James Madison ad
actually yet on the mic earlier in the game and
tell fans to stop throwing snowballs.
Speaker 3 (23:49):
So maybe that's what it was about. Again.
Speaker 1 (23:51):
We'll we'll keep following trying to figure things out here
because clearly this is going to open the door for
James Madison to get into the college football playoff. Uh.
If Duke upset, that's Virginia tomorrow. Uh be a really
hard thing to tell twenty fifth rank James Madison. Oh yeah, sorry, hey,
but yeah, but Duke is eight and five, So we're
gonna we're gonna we're gonna put Duke.
Speaker 2 (24:09):
Ahead of you.
Speaker 3 (24:10):
Okay, just so you know we're gonna do that.
Speaker 4 (24:11):
Well, but you know what, you open the door for chaos.
Never let it go to the judges, as they say.
But but I still go back to just h Parker
losing his mind on the sideline because you anticipate it's like,
you know, you watch it live action, there's always the.
Speaker 5 (24:26):
All right, was his arm moving forward? Was there?
Speaker 3 (24:29):
You know?
Speaker 5 (24:29):
Was the guy when he went to pick up the
ball that his.
Speaker 4 (24:31):
Knee scrape or or some part of his body scraped
orhere you would say, hey, that guy should have been
down at the spot like so on the play there's
none of that. Literally, the quarterback drops the ball as
the HiT's gonna come, and it's a clean scoop and score.
So you know, now it becomes the without the benefit
of audio, Like, I really want to know what the
hell he was losing his mind to be that there's
(24:53):
something that was our fracas on the other side of
the field that we didn't see, and you'll get in
the all twenty two.
Speaker 5 (24:59):
I mean, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (25:01):
I wouldn't be surprised if this was a case of
it's been such a close game the entire way and
Troy thought they were you know, they were right there
to pull the upset and the touchdown.
Speaker 3 (25:12):
You know, the big drive.
Speaker 1 (25:12):
They have a big running play for about thirty yards
and a big then the quarterback quarterback keeper for the touchdown,
and that that you know, and then okay, so now
they're down there driving. Then you get the play that
clinches it. Right now, now it's over because it's it's
a it's a it's a fumble and a return for
a touchdown, and it's a three score game and there's
three minutes left to play, and you just know that
(25:33):
it's over, and you're mad, and you're mad and you're
frustrated about something. So you either see the snowball falling
or something else and you just start absolutely, you know,
losing your mind as what it.
Speaker 5 (25:43):
Was, kind of like what we talked about yesterday.
Speaker 1 (25:47):
But just to give you an up update right now
with with the we get to the we'll get to
the two biggest games in a second. According to the
All State Playoff Predictor, oh wow, okay, ESPN's got this
right now. With a win tonight, James Madison that there's
a fifty five percent chance to make the college football Playoff.
With a win tonight and a Duke win tomorrow, they
(26:07):
have a ninety nine point nine percent chance to make
the college football playoff.
Speaker 5 (26:15):
Never hesitation, so feverishly cheer for Duke Man.
Speaker 1 (26:21):
I'll tell you Madison is merciless love the sin, hate
the college football playoff.
Speaker 5 (26:27):
Trying to bunch a ticket just like he did back
in what eight.
Speaker 1 (26:31):
We'll have more on this with beat fu Tech coming
up at about forty five minutes from now. But look,
the two biggest games tomorrow we have Indiana Ohio State.
Isn't that huge a game. It's a great game because
we have two undefeated teams one to two in the country,
a lot of attention on them. Indiana's kind of been
America's team this year. Uh you know, Look, you've watched
them all year on Fox. You've watched Ohio State all
(26:53):
year on Fox. It's gonna be a great game. Everybody's
gonna watch because it is a great even though both
teams are going to the playoff, the winner's gonna gonna
be one of the top seeds, Like okay, so you're
fighting for that, So there's stakes there, But overall, you know,
both these teams are going I'd love to pick Indiana,
but Ohio State is just that much better everywhere.
Speaker 3 (27:12):
I feel like Ohio State's been waiting for a stamp game.
Speaker 1 (27:16):
And and while they you know, they wanted Michigan to
be their stamp game, with how it's gone the last years,
it's just been look, just walk out of that game
with a w like Ryan Day just had to walk
out of that game, doesn't matter if it was ten
to nine or four to three, like he had to
win that game. And their offense played at the best
level that I have seen them play at because Mischig,
(27:36):
I don't know how they didn't score more points. Michigan
couldn't stop anything Ohio State did. They couldn't cover their receivers,
they couldn't pressure the quarterback, they couldn't stop the running
game like Ohio State was just absolutely on point in
that game.
Speaker 3 (27:49):
But this is their stamp game, where.
Speaker 1 (27:51):
All right, yeah, we know you're good, but all right, Michigan,
they've lost three games. This is where they've been looking for,
this effort to say, yeah, now you want to really
believe we're the biggest, baddest guys on the block. This
is the game they're looking for. All their wins up
till now, they've been kind of mad. Right even if
you look at Texas. All right, Texas has won three
games against top ten teams. They've lost three games against
top ten teams.
Speaker 3 (28:11):
So okay.
Speaker 1 (28:12):
But even though Fernano Mendoza could win the Heisman with
a winning a big game here, like, it's still wide
open for that. I'm not sold he can be great
against Ohio State. They're just so talented across the board
that do I see it being close early? Yeah, but
it would have to be Julian saying turning the ball
over three times and five turnovers.
Speaker 3 (28:32):
Overall for Ohio State to lose this game.
Speaker 1 (28:34):
I find it hard to believe that Indianas and Kurt
Signette you're walking out of us with a win to Mark.
Speaker 4 (28:39):
Yeah, that's the curious thing for Ohio State, right, all
of the questions of how good are they all season long,
You've played without some of your biggest stars, particularly your
wide receivers for a stretch of this season. To your point,
the Heisman Trophy gets decided in this game, all right,
Mendoza the favorite. The odds is, we see it right
(29:00):
now plus one fifty five saying at plus two hundred.
So they'll battle it out, and look, it won't be
decided by them. It's gonna be whether each team establishes
a running game and whether the defense can actually get
a stop. You'll get at forty four points a game
for Indiana, thirty seven a game for Ohio State, and
(29:22):
just the excellence of execution. Both team has been very
good defensively obviously all season long. But the rubber meets
the road here as we look at our odds for
this game, you know, all week just waiting for this
matchup and the battle of what is it? Four points spread?
(29:43):
It was three and a half I saw a little
bit earlier in the week's up to four. Forty six
and a half is the total. We'll talk to Todd
Ferman in about two hours to break down these games
a little bit further in the NFL slate. But part
of me wants to see Signetti do it just for
the pure chaos it and what Indiana has become in
this new age of college football, to really remind folks
(30:05):
all right, in this new age in a year or two,
with the right amount of money spent, you know, Michigan
State getting four hundred million dollars two hundred ninety million
in the athletic department to say we can go and
win these things and play with the big boys. But
it's it's awful hard with that full roster of wide
receivers back for Ohio State to think that you're going
(30:25):
to be able to get that extra stop.
Speaker 3 (30:28):
So there we go.
Speaker 1 (30:29):
We're both on OSU. We have other big games to
break down first. But now let's find out what's trending
in the wide world of sports. For guy who's got
everything about the game that all of our eyes were
on tonight the Knicks one forty six, one twelve win
over Utah and Jalen Brunston's thirty three points.
Speaker 3 (30:47):
Steve de Sager, what do you got?
Speaker 7 (30:49):
I think only the Knicks for six minutes had their
eyes on that game.
Speaker 5 (30:54):
It was a twenty.
Speaker 7 (30:55):
Three nothing lead before they blew out Utah. Officially since
they've had I had the specific play by play listings
of games quarter by quarter, which is the late nineties.
This is the greatest shutout start the NBA has seen.
And yes, one forty six point twelve was the final.
Speaker 1 (31:12):
I mean, watching this in the beginning of the night,
I'm watching them going wow. Okay, at least I can
have the positive side of what Syracuse Notre Dame looked
like in football, Like.
Speaker 5 (31:20):
That's what TV tonight.
Speaker 7 (31:22):
How many points for thorough Bayley tonight could have used him? Uh, well,
that would take a misshot, I guess. Jalen Brunson had
thirty three points for New York. I can recall when
Sacramento roughly nineteen ninety or earlier was really bad. They
were down forty to four at the Lakers earlier, back
in the Kurt Rambus days. Rambus Uh, Lakers could have
(31:42):
used some talent on the floor tonight. They did have
Austin Reeves thirty six points. But at Boston, Luka Donsich
was out again for family reasons, could return on Sunday.
Lebron James of LA was out tonight and the Celtics
led the Lakers after the first quarter thirty nine seventeen one,
twenty six, one oh five over LA. The final Celtics
from three point range twenty four for forty five, Jalen
(32:04):
Brown thirty points. There's only one game still going. The
late game involves Oklahoma City, which has won thirteen in
a row and is winning again at home. Late first
half thunder ahead of Dallas fifty three forty five and
OKC win would put their record at twenty two and
one in college basketball, Gonzaga rip Kentucky ninety four fifty nine.
(32:25):
In college football, Tonight's yeah four conference title games, including
twenty fifth rank James Madison leading thirty one fourteen with
about a minute a half to go against Troy for
the Sunbelt title at twenty ath th RANKD TWU Lane.
The home team leads thirty one to seven over twenty
fourth ranked North Texas in the third quarter.
Speaker 5 (32:44):
In the American Conference.
Speaker 7 (32:46):
On Fox TV at Boise State for the Mountain West title,
Broncos lead UNLV twenty eight fourteen again third quarter. Kennesaw
State blew a lead but won late nineteen fifteen at
Jacksonville State to take the ground in Conference USA, Penn
State has a new head football coach. It's Matt Campbell,
who spent the last ten years at Iowa State. Cyclones
(33:09):
already have a new head coach tonight. That was quick
Jimmy Rodgers from Washington State. Alabama running back jam Miller
is questionable for sage better.
Speaker 3 (33:17):
If it was the other Jimmy Rodgers, that would be
a great story. Hey Jack Rodgers with.
Speaker 5 (33:21):
The white hair, Yes, sure.
Speaker 7 (33:24):
Running Back jam Miller Obama questionable for Saturday with a
leg injury and backup running back Kevin Riley is out,
and Fox TV will have that Saturday night Big Ten
title game in Indianapolis. It's number two Indiana against number
one Ohio State, each team twelve and zero. And Ravens
quarterback Lamar Jackson will play Sunday against the Steelers. He
returned to full practice today after an ankle injury. And
(33:47):
you reference to US men's soccer will face Paraguay and
Australia in next Summer's World Cup, and then it'll face
a European playoff winner.
Speaker 1 (33:55):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve Oh, Jason Smith, Mike
Harmon love from the Fox Sports Radio studios. So coming
up next to yes, we'll get into one of the
other big games that has a huge implication on the
college football playoff.
Speaker 3 (34:07):
Coming up next, we'll give you our pick.
Speaker 1 (34:09):
Plus are we going to get potentially the greatest television
interview tomorrow on game Day?
Speaker 3 (34:17):
That's next right here, Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (34:19):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (34:30):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon.
Speaker 3 (34:35):
No one plays Christmas songs like we do. No, no
one plays Christmas.
Speaker 4 (34:39):
No, there is no chance. See no dj Alex Tye
shirt making at work.
Speaker 1 (34:47):
James Madison puts the finishing touches on their win Sun
Belt Conference champions.
Speaker 3 (34:52):
If Duke upsets Virginia.
Speaker 1 (34:53):
Tomorrow, likely ninety nine point nine percent according to the
All State Playoff predictor, we'll go go to the College
Football Playoff.
Speaker 4 (35:01):
I'll tell you what if that doesn't happen, though, Like
say that win does and they don't get in, I
got to question their actuarial tables from here on out.
Speaker 1 (35:10):
Okay, all right, I mean really, I don't know that.
I don't know the people would buy insurance.
Speaker 3 (35:14):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (35:14):
I think that's the credibility that we put up in
ninety nine percent?
Speaker 3 (35:19):
Am I really good?
Speaker 5 (35:20):
Hands?
Speaker 1 (35:21):
Am I in goodd It would send of the hands out.
It would be hands like with sand falling through them,
Like that would be the logo of the company. Maybe
you're good, but ay, maybe not. You know, it's an
inexact science. What do you want me to I mean,
I want it now? I need Ben Stiller on the
job for me. Like, so, tomorrow biggest day in college football.
(35:43):
It's Conference championship day. You know, we talked Indiana, Ohio
State a few minutes ago. Georgia, Alabama, and obviously the
Duke Virginia game has a lot of attention as well,
Virginia likely going to the playoff with a victory. Duke's
win would probably send James Madison to the playoffs. But
the game where you know it's a win, it's a winner,
(36:05):
go home situation is Georgia and Alabama in the SEC
Championship game. Alabama at two losses, sitting at number nine,
you know that's gonna be it. Georgia, it would stay
in with a loss, you know, two lost george team
would stay in. But the pressure is all on Alabama,
and I gotta be honest, Mike, I am not sold
on either team the last few weeks. Like Alabama is
(36:26):
not great offensively, they've kinda they've kind of hit the skids.
Speaker 4 (36:30):
Second and a half, kind of shuffles and scuffles along
the way.
Speaker 5 (36:34):
The passing game ground to a halt a bit.
Speaker 1 (36:37):
Yeah, and maybe with Georgia, I'm just used to the
the the the dominant Georgia from the National championship years.
But I gotta say Alabama needs this game way more
and and and I think I think Kirby Smart has
an Alabama thing. He comes up short against Alabama a lot,
and it's it's so much more so than just well,
(36:59):
they lost a couple of games. Now it's one of
those records where Ah, maybe it's in his head a
little bit. I see this as Alabama finding a way
the offense. They jump out early and they cause problems.
Caleb to look at you're talking about stamp victory Ohio State.
Debor gets his stamp victory with Alabama. They go to
the playoff, they beat Georgia. It's a one and a
(37:19):
half point spread. I'm getting one and a half. I
won't need him in a close game. I'll take Alabama
in the upset.
Speaker 5 (37:26):
Damn. I don't want to be on the same side.
But I am like, just looking at what you have in.
Speaker 4 (37:32):
Simpson in the passing game, that that's enough to make
it happen again. Curious what their second half struggles have been,
kind of getting clamped down. I think he's at like
one hundred yards or few or five straight as they
closed out things in the SEC. But you know you
mentioned the Kirby Smart Alabama thing. I mean, for all
(37:55):
all of the hand ringing we've done with so many
coaches for the last decade plus that you and I
have been doing the show, he's kind of gotten the pass.
And now winning two titles will do.
Speaker 3 (38:06):
That for you.
Speaker 4 (38:07):
Yeah, that's that's certainly gonna help you out. But you know, normally,
when you have such a one sided record in the
wrong way against a team that that usually gets raised
a little bit more, right, But this one curious? Do
they get the revenge for the early three three point loss?
Speaker 5 (38:27):
I don't. I don't think so. I think Alabama wins
and it creates some more chaos.
Speaker 3 (38:31):
Now.
Speaker 1 (38:31):
Meanwhile, as much as we want to see these games tomorrow,
one thing that we were all looking forward to may
not happen.
Speaker 3 (38:39):
Right.
Speaker 1 (38:40):
It was announced earlier this week that Lane Kiffin was
gonna appear on ESPN's College Game Day and it.
Speaker 3 (38:45):
Was gonna be a whole big thing at all.
Speaker 1 (38:47):
Lane Kiffin, who's owned the news cycle everybody's most favorite
coach to hate, He now says he's not gonna be
able to attend because they signed the number one overall
recruit this year. In the early periods, a little more
brown signed, he says, Hey had to say in Baton
Rouge won't make it to Atlanta for college game Day,
but he still could appear via remote, Right, so you
(39:09):
can still get Lane Kiffen, but he's not gonna be
on the set at the game. Now, who knows how
much of this is pr going. Hey, dude, there's not
a lot of wins for you here. You go on set,
people are gonna scream at you and throw stuff at you.
So maybe being on via remote is the way to go.
But I gotta be honest what I want either way.
Speaker 3 (39:25):
You know what I want? I want Lane Kiffin.
Speaker 1 (39:27):
To give us a WWE heel turn appearance, like like
you get when when there's a there's an event going
on in a town and and the one wrestler grabs
the mic and starts insulting the town right about how
this is the worst place in the world. You think
we had liberty here? This is the worst?
Speaker 3 (39:46):
Right? Who is it? Becky Lynch is insulting Birmingham, right.
Speaker 5 (39:48):
Heah on classic, Yeah, she's brilliant at that.
Speaker 1 (39:52):
Like, I want Lane Kivin to say a lot of
people don't like me here you know where, You're not
gonna like me next year in the SEC Championship. Ole
miss fan, how about that? Like, that's what I want.
If Lane Kiffin doesn't, I.
Speaker 4 (40:02):
Really wanted to see him take a couple of softball
questions and the crowds just start booing because they're bored.
Speaker 1 (40:09):
Exit out about a Fresco exit swollen dome. Jason Smith
My Carman live from the Fox Sports Radio studios. Coming
up next, we continue our Football Friday preview by previewing
the biggest NFL games of the week.
Speaker 3 (40:20):
That's next. This is Fox
