Speaker 3 (00:51):
So, you know, normally, you know, we start the show,
we tell about a couple of big things going oh yeah,
we get into our first big topic. But instead, now
I gotta go right to this dude, are you okay?
What the hell is going on with your team? What
the hell is going on with the Bears? I mean today,
I've never seen a day like today. Even the Jets
don't have days like that.
Speaker 5 (01:08):
Well, I foreshadowed it by yelling I hate my life.
I was calling out a live mike yesterday. You didn't
foreshadow this, No, no, because here's the thing is. Now
you're trying to sort out what's real what's imagined in
terms of resigning for health reasons. Right whenever it's them,
I'm resigning to spend more time with my family. We
(01:29):
all raise an eyebrow. I had some reports out there,
so you're trying to again parse through the noise and
and some bold statements. I saw notes from the attorney
that Williams is now retained.
Speaker 4 (01:44):
Buddy, but just you though, how are you, buddy?
Speaker 3 (01:47):
I mean, we'll get to give me a human response, buddy,
I know it's difficult, give me a human human.
Speaker 5 (01:54):
Yeah, the human response was I knew the on field
play was a cesspool. And then hearing justin fields this
morning in take one and take two, and we'll see
if he tries to revise his statement again. You know
that was all right. I hate to say I told
you so. And the flame flame wall behind Elmo, I mean,
(02:15):
that was that kind of morning. And then it just
got weirder. Yeah, and then yeah, you send your left
tackle to injured reserve you uh, Wave Peterman, Yeah, you
say second string quarterback.
Speaker 4 (02:27):
You say it lost in the drama.
Speaker 5 (02:29):
So like he said, I want out of here. I'm
done with all you people. And they said, okay, Now.
Speaker 3 (02:35):
The best thing to do I always go, you know,
with so many things. I mean, I don't know that
any team has ever had a day like the Bears
had today, and there's a lot of crazy things going on,
and people don't know what to what to take in,
what's real and what's not. I go back to the
Princess Bride philosophy of Nigo Montoya when he says, you
have to go back to the beginning, go back to Fazena.
You told me to go back. We got to start
(02:56):
at the beginning. Okay, start at the beginning, and we
take you through the day because oh boy, now, first
you woke up in the big story this morning was
justin Fields not happy with his play obviously, and he
had a press conference and he threw his coaches under
the bus and he said, you know, look, he's not
happy with the play calling. He's got he's thinking too
much and when he's out there and he's got to
(03:18):
get out there to just playing off of instincts.
Speaker 4 (03:20):
Right, This was how the day.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
Started for the Bears, and you thought, well, here's a
three alarm interview, a thing going on with the Bears,
because here's Justin Fields in his post practice interview talking
about how upset he was with his play and that, yeah,
I just got to start doing my thing and really
stop listening to the coaches.
Speaker 5 (03:37):
Well, because it's funny because the other day we had
that start right right, the finger pointing and everything else,
and you'd think calmerheads would prevail forty eight seventy two
hours later, or at least that's in theory, right.
Speaker 3 (03:52):
So here's Justin Fields from earlier today with the big
money statement that then just got you know, dwarfed as
the day went on.
Speaker 6 (03:59):
I feel like, you know, I wasn't necessarily playing my game.
I felt like I was kind of robotic and not
playing like myself. I go this week is just to
say effid and just go out there and play football
how I know how to play football. That includes thinking
lesson just going out there and playing off for the
instincts rather than just so much so to say info
in my head died in my head and literally just
going out there playing football, because that's when you know
(04:20):
I play my best is I do. I'm just out
there playing free and I being myself.
Speaker 4 (04:24):
I am Justin Fields. N I am a robot. No
I'm not.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
Okay, So basically what he's saying is, yeah, I'm not
going to listen to the coaches anymore. They want me
to do all this stuff. I'm just gonna nod my
head and go out and do whatever I want to.
Speaker 4 (04:36):
So this becomes a thing.
Speaker 3 (04:38):
And then a few minutes later, Justin Fields calls the
reporters into the Bear's locker room and says, wait a minute,
wait a minute, I want to just clarify what I said.
And he goes on his little da tribe of how
you know, I don't want the media to blow what
I said out of proportion. I don't want you to
just take sound bites and edit them together. Even though
I said everything, even though I said all of those things,
I don't want you to take it all out of
(04:59):
con So now he's trying to walk back his his bit. Okay,
all right, now, there there's your Justin fel Okay, there's
your Justin Fields topic. But then things get really weird.
Then things get really really weird because we get reports
that the FBI raided Hallas Hall at some point early
in the morning. Wait, why was that FBI raiding Hallis Hall?
(05:22):
In raid On Hallis Hall sounds like, you know, a
made for TV movie and tonight raid on Hallis.
Speaker 5 (05:27):
Hall Chuck Haston in company. It's like the Towering Inferno.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
Yeah, yeah, they were, They're rating, They're raiding Allas Hall.
Speaker 4 (05:35):
What was going on?
Speaker 3 (05:37):
So and then after that report got out, it was
then denied. No, there was no raid on Hallis Hall. Okay,
but wait, why would that report get out there? Nope, nope, nope,
raid on Hallis Hall. So either Hallas Hall was or
was not rated earlier today, after that, defensive coordinator Alan
Williams resigned, saying he wanted to spend more time with
(05:59):
his family and internet slews try to put two and
two together. Go, Okay, Hallas Hall was raided, it's being
covered up, and Alan Williams is somehow at the center
of this, and there's all kinds of crazy stuff going on,
as you can imagine.
Speaker 4 (06:11):
Why would he resign? He's been away from the team.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
Actually he didn't call the defense last week, iber Flues
called the defense and now he's stepping away to spend
time with his family. Okay, now that's kind of weird. Okay,
but this now, so you have justin fields, you have
the FBI, maybe maybe not raiding Hallis Hall, and the
defensive coordinator stepping down. And then my favorite part of
the day is that when I see p nut Tillman trending,
(06:36):
I go, what is going on here? Then it gets
run on rampant speculation that penut Tillman, who is now
an FBI agent, you know, former Charles p Nutt Tillman,
great defensive back to crafted by the Bears of two
thousand and six, retired, went to the FBI. There is
now reports that p Nutt Tillman was the guy who
led the raid on Hallis Hall. Wait a minute, wait,
(07:00):
he led the radius and he called the coaching staff
to tell them, hey, we're coming to rade you. Oh hey,
peanuts on the phone. No, dude, this is not a
good phone call. We're coming to raid you. So it
got to the point where people thought an ex Chicago
Bear who is now an FBI agent, who is legitimately
an FBI agent. He is a legitimate FBI agent, and
I know what his go to move is an FBI agent.
Speaker 4 (07:20):
He sneaks up on.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
The bad guy from behind and he punches out whatever
the thief is stolen, and that's how you get the
solen merchandise back. That's the big Penut Tilman FBI move.
Speaker 7 (07:28):
It's a good move.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
After this happens, it's then confirmed weight No, Peanut Tillman,
who is an FBI agent, did not lead a raid
on Hallis Hall. This is where we stand right now
with this story, where there are reports saying one thing,
and then there are reports that are saying this did
not happen. Hallis Hall was not raided. Pena Tilman was
(07:50):
not involved, but he is in the FBI. Alan Williams
did resign. There are many local Chicago Bear beat reporters
saying something is up. This is not that the couple
people said. We were told that the Alan Williams thing
is not just spending time with his family, but we
don't know what it is at this point. And this
is the day that Chicago Bears happened, and the bet
(08:10):
and Justin Fields has to be looking around going. Man,
everybody wanted to talk to me earlier today. Now they
don't even care what I say. They didn't care that
I threw the coaching staff under the bus.
Speaker 4 (08:17):
Here.
Speaker 3 (08:18):
This was the day that was for the Chicago Bears,
not even the Jets, Mike Carment, not even the Mets.
Speaker 7 (08:23):
On there.
Speaker 3 (08:23):
Other day would have a day like this where you
have somebody questioning the coaching staff who just so happens
to be your franchise quarterback. And that becomes story too,
because a raid that may or may not have happened
by a defensive back who played for the team, who
may or may not be an FBI agent. All of
this is going on. Ad your defensive coordinator resigns and
old they find a way to call Nathan Pete him
into their office and say, oh, hey, Nay, yeah, crazy
(08:45):
day today. Yeah, listen, you're done. Yeah, we're letting you go.
Sorry about that yet, go ahead, Yeah, this was the
day for the Chicago Bears.
Speaker 5 (08:50):
Multiple A block stories. If you're programming a show, it's like,
all right.
Speaker 4 (08:56):
We can leave that with the A.
Speaker 5 (08:57):
We'll take calls, we'll have a guest try to make
some sense of it, and then we'll get we'll try
to tie that up, and then we'll do it again
next hour. That kind of thing, and move on. To
the next story. Yeah, it's interesting. The look the Field's
part is just pretty pretty basic. He's kind of ticked
off at the incoming across Chicago Land.
Speaker 7 (09:20):
For his play.
Speaker 5 (09:21):
And you can say all you want about being robotic
and what they're trying to do, and clearly they're trying
to impress on him. He needs to improve as a
pocket passer. That still doesn't excuse the fact that when
you have a clean pocket averaging over four seconds per dropback,
that you're not finding an open receiver and you're still
absorbing multiple sacks and you're not scrambling to buy time
(09:44):
if you do feel the heat. All of those things
come together, But push that aside for a moment. The
Williams thing is interesting. The lawyer that he retained as
of this morning a man named Andrew Stroth, a guy
that I actually worked with when I was at north
Western as he was in law school and I was
helping to administer the financial aid program and help guys
(10:06):
get through ALI those says.
Speaker 7 (10:08):
Like that's a familiar name. I remember him.
Speaker 5 (10:10):
He's done a lot of deals for athletes through the
Year's High Power Agency and a couple of things he
was on the Score in Chicago, had a couple of
interesting quotes when you take them at what he had
to say. Quote, there's absolutely no criminal activity, there's no
criminal allegations, and there's been no raid on Hallis Hall.
(10:31):
None of that is true, all right. The criminal activity
is interesting because if you're denying that, well, you're you're
just saying your your client is not guilty of whatever
might be coming down. So you know, take that and
then he as he the interview went on, kind of
made it sound like it was a medical leave of
absence as opposed to, Hey, I've turned in my resignation
(10:55):
so on good terms with the team, then why resign?
Why would you not have a medical leave of absence? Then?
So there's some gray and some more questions and follow
ups there. Yeah, it's the floating dumpster on fire in
Chicago right now as people tried to rally around this, Yes,
there was there a raid, was there not a lot
(11:18):
of speculation. You saw some of our friends in the
media nationally, Jordan Schultz, who joins the show, going if
any of what I'm hearing is true, with putting no
specifics on it, because right now there's just a lot
of rumor and trying to connect the dots as to
what this all means other than your defensive coordinator's not
there anymore, you know.
Speaker 3 (11:39):
I like how everything that happened today that that was
first reported happening, then was reported not happening. Right, So
because you had the Hallis Hall raid, Field rips the
Bears coaches.
Speaker 4 (11:50):
P U Tilman led the raid. And then when we
find out this to day.
Speaker 3 (11:53):
Go on, all right, it wasn't rated Justin Field says
he didn't rip the Bears coaches and it was not
pe Ut Tillman.
Speaker 4 (11:58):
So everything that was reported.
Speaker 3 (11:59):
Was I don't know, this didn't happen at the end
of the day. I mean, I don't know, buddy, I
don't know what to keep what to keep track with this?
Speaker 5 (12:05):
Well, man, look again, the field's part of It's easy.
He's dissatisfied with the coaches. The coaches may be on
thin ice right now. Eber Flus is the favorite to
be fired. He is absolutely after today surpassed Brandon Staley
as the most likely coach in the betting odds to
be fired. So that we know right that part we
(12:25):
actually can put and contain a little bit. It makes
for great talking points and we can talk more about
justin fields as it goes on. The rest of this
is just I'm sitting here with a giant question park
over my head, going what the hell's.
Speaker 7 (12:37):
Going on in now?
Speaker 4 (12:38):
No, buddy, buddy, bud who wants wait wait, wait, you're
missing them.
Speaker 3 (12:41):
You're missing the biggest thing, and this is the Merriman
gotten dot.
Speaker 7 (12:44):
They don't have a backup.
Speaker 3 (12:46):
No, America found out today that panut Tilman's an FBI
I mean no, no, come on, the average person did
not know Peanut Tilman was an FBI agent.
Speaker 7 (12:55):
Yeah, no, so not so obviously.
Speaker 5 (12:57):
There were an awful lot of Keanu Reeves refferences as
the day went on. Peanut the best, just the second
best former football player to become an FBI agent.
Speaker 3 (13:08):
Well he's better than John Johnny Utah never made it
to the NFL. He ripped up his knee in the
rose ball and you know he had never made it.
Speaker 7 (13:14):
Peanuts, But when you take it all on balance.
Speaker 4 (13:16):
The peanut, the peanut dude.
Speaker 3 (13:18):
Come on, man, the peanut punch They got to be
talking about that and the FBI like all the time. Man, like, hey,
watch out for the peanut punch man. You don't want
that you don't want when they good cup bad cop people,
it's hey, you want the peanut punch.
Speaker 4 (13:28):
No, no, no, I'll tell you what happened. I'll tell
you everything. I'll tell you where all the merchandise is.
I'll die. I don't want the peanut punch. Dude, Peanut Tillman,
FBI agent man.
Speaker 3 (13:36):
I mean, how much you want to bet Peanut Tillman's
going to be on the Dan Patrick Show tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (13:39):
Peanut will be on the dam.
Speaker 5 (13:41):
Very well, Yeah, that would make perfect sense. But yeah,
and like with this this story, I mean trying to
figure out, you know, connecting the dots because Williams had
been away from the team and eber Flus had been
serving as the defensive coordinator, and that was much was
made of that this past week and readying for you
know availability and media availability this week, and then all
(14:03):
of a sudden, this shoe drops this morning, and then
it's trying to piece together like it's a knives out addition,
and ben Wan b Long is getting ready to try
to track this down and figure out what the hell's
actually going down.
Speaker 7 (14:18):
It's another puzzle, like Edward Norton said, another puzzle.
Speaker 3 (14:22):
It's either Peter Tilman or Trooper Watner. I'm trying to
figure out what but I suspect foul play going on
in hallis Hall.
Speaker 5 (14:29):
But yeah, right now, it is a very curious state affairs,
like it's any thing to say, Hey, it's a it's
a terrible team, it's on the road to hell and
maybe the battle for Caleb Williams.
Speaker 7 (14:41):
Now you add this on layers.
Speaker 5 (14:43):
By the way, it was also Ryan Pole's birthday, So
happy birthday, Ryan Poles.
Speaker 7 (14:47):
Take that.
Speaker 4 (14:48):
Oh, do you think PETERA.
Speaker 3 (14:49):
Tillman would have worn his Bears gear like what like
a Bears hoodie?
Speaker 4 (14:53):
Or he would have worn the.
Speaker 5 (14:54):
Old prison ones that the throwbacks where they look like centurions.
Speaker 3 (15:00):

How many gummies in are we guys?
Speaker 4 (16:05):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (16:05):
Harmon can. Harmon's been gumming it up since like ten o'clock.
Speaker 7 (16:08):
It's been a really tough day.
Speaker 3 (16:09):
Yeah, you've been hanging out with no dog, Harmon, it's
been gumming.
Speaker 5 (16:12):
I lapped him by ten am. You kidding me, see,
but now by TikTok and Harmon rants. I put up
a video of me walking the dog. And that's before
things went sideways. That was just after the initial Fields response.
Speaker 3 (16:25):
I bet you there's there's an opening few forget about,
like like giving your sport, like just walking your dog.
Like you're the guy that walks your dog every day
and you post a video at the same time every day, and.
Speaker 4 (16:34):
I bet you people watch that. I bet your people
watch it.
Speaker 3 (16:36):
You would be this You would be this incredible TikTok sensation.
Speaker 4 (16:40):
What does the guy do he walks his dog? Does
he do anything? No, he walks his dog. He just
walks his dog on the go back home, go back home.
Speaker 5 (16:45):
I've actually been pondering that, right and want you to
do random pop culture story that we talk about for
maybe a little you know, hot sports nonsense.
Speaker 4 (16:55):
No, no, no, you don't even do anything but walk the dog.
That's all.
Speaker 7 (16:58):
Just keep the camera on the dog and occasionally on
me watch you.
Speaker 3 (17:01):
Yeah, pans up to you, you smile, pan down to
the dog. I bet you there's a market for that.
Then you would have like hundreds of thousands of followers
of people would watch you.
Speaker 7 (17:08):
D do I have to show my calves or anything else?
Speaker 4 (17:10):
Well?
Speaker 3 (17:10):
Probably, Well, you know, people would want to talk about
your outfits every day, So I would dress Yeah, I
would dress purple, thinking about it a little bit, thinking
about what you want, because that's the people they would
talk about the dog. They would talk about how the
dog looks. Is the dog happy? Is a dog wagon?
Speaker 4 (17:23):
His tail? Is he limping? What about you? Is he
you limping?
Speaker 3 (17:26):
What about your outfit? He's wearing a Bears T shirt.
I feel so bad for the guy. You know, all
things are what people would talk about.
Speaker 8 (17:32):
Bark twice if you think Justin Field sucks, roof roof.
Speaker 4 (17:40):
See.
Speaker 3 (17:41):
But here's buddy, here's the thing where I think we
can help each other out. Right with the day, with
the day and the Bears. That was kicked off with
Justin Fields questioning the coaches right saying that, hey, well
you know too many the coaches, they're they're they're two
on me.
Speaker 4 (17:53):
I just need to go out and play right.
Speaker 3 (17:55):
You can tell that, uh, these two, these two sides
are not on the same page, right, Absolutely not on
the same page. And eber Flus has jumped to the
front of potentially being fired. And maybe it's a battle
of who winds up winning first, is who winds up
blinking first? Is eber Flu's fired or is Justin Field's
bench like what happens first? But I'm here to say, hey,
maybe there's a way we can help each other out
(18:17):
because I could sit here and say, well, maybe I
gotta wait three or four weeks. Hope the Vikings who
traded cam Akers today traded for cam Akers today. Hope
the Vikings keep losing and the kirk Cousins eventually will
be traded to the Jets in a walk year where hey,
we stink we're starting over. Or how about if I
just get justin Fields right now from you for you know,
(18:38):
give me just like I'll give you like a fourth
or a fifth round pick, or a fourth round pick
that could be a fifth round or a fifth rounder.
That's a fourth rounder. That's what I give you up
for justin Fields. And you're done with Justin Fields, and
you can move on and take get a quarterback. You
can finish with the number one pick again and get
Caleb Williams, and you give us justin Fields, and Justin
Fields at least is an upgrade over Zach Wilson. And
(18:58):
he's got a lot of guys out, he's got a
lot of weapons, okay, and that would work. We can
get I mean, I don't know that. I think I'd
rather have Justin Fields tomorrow than Kirk Cousins in five
or six weeks, because who knows where things are gonna
be in five or six weeks. So give me Justin
Fields to I'll take Justin Fields tomorrow over Kirk Cousins
in five weeks.
Speaker 5 (19:16):
Well, if Nathaniel Hackett just lets him run around and
play like his hair's on fire, because that's evidently what
he's going to do going forward. I've never looked forward
to a game more. They're playing in Kansas City.
Speaker 4 (19:27):
Yeah, there'd be no coaching involved. They'd just been just
wopped to do whatever you want.
Speaker 7 (19:30):
I'm just gonna roll out and wing it downfield. Let's
see what happens.
Speaker 4 (19:33):
Just drawing up plays in the dirt. That's what it's
gonna be.
Speaker 3 (19:36):
All right, you you give me, You give me a
ten yard dig right here? Uh you you go along?
You you give me a down and that?
Speaker 4 (19:44):
What about me? What do you do? What do we think?
Speaker 3 (19:46):
Oh? Yeah, yeah, hey, give me a curl in the
middle of the field. Try to try to occupy the
middle linebacker. Okay, who you throwing it to?
Speaker 4 (19:51):
Oh no, I'm not.
Speaker 3 (19:52):
I'm gonna wait and the I'm gonna tuck it and
I'm gonna run. So that's what that's what that that's
the play that was the last eight plays. Yeah, we're
gonna do it again. I want to run for one
hundred yards.
Speaker 5 (19:59):
But you know what, so they already have set precedent
by running the same formation three straight plays.
Speaker 7 (20:06):
So I mean you got that going for you already.
Speaker 3 (20:09):
You see the jets of skilled players just leave the huddle,
like when you're playing two hand touch you know you're
not getting the ball, and just walking to the line
of scrim It's like, I'm not even gonna run.
Speaker 4 (20:16):
A pack time.
Speaker 3 (20:17):
I'm just I'm just gonna stand here and you watch
the play go. You go back into the huddle and
you try to convince the guy throw it to me,
throw it to me.
Speaker 7 (20:23):
Just players.
Speaker 4 (20:25):
Yeah, that would be the all Frostburg off the top
rope with.
Speaker 5 (20:28):
That, well, because that's what he does. He's been watching
his Macho Man super Climpse.
Speaker 4 (20:33):
Man. I'll tell you, but I'm sword with.
Speaker 5 (20:35):
The the Eagles and I'm slithered with the snakes, and
that's kind of where I'm at with him.
Speaker 4 (20:41):
I think we can help each other, buddy, I think
we can help each other.
Speaker 7 (20:44):
No, I think that would be great for you.
Speaker 4 (20:45):
Yeah, I think we can.
Speaker 5 (20:46):
I'm just waiting to see what the next generation of
this is. Because if literally he's just gonna go out
there and say all right and going back to you know,
eleven hundred and forty three rushing yards all of a sudden,
fantasy owners like, yeah, give me that guy. Forget about
a system and playing in and again, he's got to
get rid of the ball. Made made a big point
of it yesterday's show Monday night, in between our our
(21:10):
double header. Of the opportunities are there, he's just not
firing the ball. Whatever the hiccup is, whatever that malfunction is.
And and look, I'll get on GETSI and the offensive
scheme because you usually want to start a bunch formation
before the snap Jason, not end up in a bunch
at the sticks or downfield where the quarterback is hoping
(21:33):
one of you fights off the other two for a catch.
That's usually not good for business. So yeah, it's just
a mess, and you'll you'll get no relief.
Speaker 3 (21:42):
It'll be Captain for it'll be way better because what
we what I worry about is Zach Wilson finding the
wrong guy and throwing a pick and not being accurate,
whereas Justin Fields is just not gonna throw the ball fair,
So I'm okay with that.
Speaker 7 (21:56):
So here's the problem is he's not running it either.
Speaker 4 (21:58):
Here's a place.
Speaker 5 (22:00):
Where he got He's gotta re re establish the man
he once was.
Speaker 3 (22:04):
No, no, no, but they would get him. They woul
let him run. They would like They wouldn't care. They
got Rogers coming back next year, they wouldn't care.
Speaker 4 (22:08):
No.
Speaker 3 (22:09):
The play with with Zach Wilson would either end with
an incompletion or an interception and there's dejection, or it
ends with Justin Field's running for a few yards. Maybe
it's a big game, maybe it's only a couple of yards,
but at least it's positive that Jets move the ball
down the field. I think I'd rather have fields tomorrow
than wait and hope for the possibility of Kirk Cousins
in in five weeks.
Speaker 5 (22:28):
I'm just saying, as much as I'm not a believer
that he's uh, you know, the savior.
Speaker 7 (22:34):
Everybody thought he would be in Chicago, but we don't
have a door number two right now. They cut that
guy today.
Speaker 5 (22:40):
Well yeah, but this is they're gonna come back and
bring David Fails back.
Speaker 7 (22:44):
For this is when I sad the name man.
Speaker 3 (22:49):
This is when I usually say in the middle of
the season, I'll say I will trade the Mets bullpen
for any other team's bullpen sight unseen.
Speaker 4 (22:55):
I don't care because at leass is just a different suck.
Speaker 3 (22:58):
If it happened, you know, there is something to be
said for the right. It doesn't matter like I trade
Zach Wilson for somebody else. It might be that potentially
week again would be an upgrade. Okay, great, yes, is
he the best option right now? But now who knew
a week ago Justin Fields might be available?
Speaker 4 (23:10):
Maybe coach, he.
Speaker 7 (23:13):
Might Peterman an upgrade?
Speaker 5 (23:15):
Stop we forgot, We forgot to put him on the list, right,
We talked about a lot of quarterbacks last week. Never
thought for a minute he'd suddenly me a viable.
Speaker 8 (23:26):
Cheeterman definitely an upgrade.
Speaker 3 (23:27):
Why can't I just hear Jim Nantz's voice going? And
next week we'll have the Jets at home against the Dolphins,
where Nathan Peterman will make his debut at quarterback.
Speaker 4 (23:35):
Jim, Jim, can you believe that, Jim?
Speaker 3 (23:37):
You know Peterman that's the same name as the guy
in side Felt, Jim, Jim, Jim. If you ever watched Sidefeld,
that was so funny Jim, Jim with the whole thing
with Peterman and the whole thing with the English patient. Jim,
that was something, Jim. Would you watch, Joe, Jim, Jim, Jim,
it was great, Jim, Jim. That would be if the
other play by play would go.
Speaker 9 (23:59):
Guys, what's when the Bears and Jets play in the
ten am window here West Coast. The next time they
play at the same time, you guys get a stream
going video stream both games up.
Speaker 8 (24:10):
Whose team sucks more?
Speaker 5 (24:11):
I really think we should do that and Jimmy, you
and I with a bottle of our favorites.
Speaker 8 (24:16):
Okay, So smearing off ice light for Jason.
Speaker 5 (24:21):
Yeah, I'm gonna bring the full on trace. We're just
getting after it.
Speaker 3 (24:27):
Dude, Harmon Harted would turn into that video that went
viral today, the naked guy walking in the.
Speaker 4 (24:31):
Airport Hartning straight.
Speaker 7 (24:34):
I have a better ass than that guy. Though.
Speaker 3 (24:38):
For the Bears games boy now coming up in a
few minutes, we have more in the LEONL. Messi injury
who left tonight's game. Doesn't look like it's that serious,
but still Messi leaving uh inner Miami's match, and and
there's a lot to get to here. Because that's kind
of the one big worry is that boy Messi, Messi's
gonna bring Messi's gonna be the biggest thing in soccer
(25:00):
we've ever seen. And wait a bite, the guy can't
stay on the field. And now TJ things could be
getting a little messy for the MLS in their pencil
move to expand popularity.
Speaker 7 (25:10):
We got another win, though.
Speaker 3 (25:12):
It's it's a lot messy, but we talked about it,
and this is this is generally you know, you know,
you hear a lot of talk about the O and
two teams now in the NFL, right and you know
generally here you have to tell, okay, what oh and
two teams can make the playoffs? And that's always a
pretty interesting thing because you know, you can start oh
and two and your chance of making the playoffs is
much more dim than it is for anybody else. You
(25:34):
every seventeen percent of the team to start oh and
two don't make the playoffs. Now it's a little bit
different because we're adding the why we added a wildcard,
and now we added an extra game to the season,
so you have a little bit.
Speaker 4 (25:43):
More to get back.
Speaker 3 (25:44):
So when you look at these oh and two teams,
you would think, all right, well, being oh and two
is not what it used to be. But I'm gonna
tell you this, Mike, I'm Gonnazigory. Think I'm gonnazag You
look at all these oh and two teams going into
this week, Patriots, Bengals, Texans, Charge, Broncos, Vikings, Bears, Panthers,
and Cardinals. Right of those take one and one stop
(26:06):
Frostburg stop. If you hadn't, if I had to say,
of all those zero to two teams the most likely
team to make the playoffs is none of them. None
of them are gonna make the playoffs because the so
many of these oh and two teams just are are
not good. Look, the Patriots roster is bad, the Texans
are bad. They're starting over, you know that. Look, the
(26:27):
Bears have all kinds of problems. The Panthers are starting over,
the Caroline, the Bears on a Cardinals or you know,
have all kinds of issues. But the main teams that
you look at and go, wait a minute, wait oh
and two teams, the main teams just have too many issues.
Right the Cincinnati Bengals, who you would say, the fridge, Oh,
the Bengals going to course make the playoffs. The Bengals
(26:47):
started the season with two winnable games and they got
smoked right there. They're They're plus minus differential is one
of the worst in the NFL. Joe Burrow is banged up.
This is just not filled with the vibe of Hey,
this will be another great year for Cincinnati. We just
have to get it going. How happy is Jamar Chase
with the lack of production he's got. This doesn't seem
(27:08):
like it's a great year for Cincinnati because they're dealing
with a lot of stuff. And look, some of it's
to be expected because you're coming off two great years
where you're a super Bowl caliber team. You're coming off
the super Bowl in one of those years. Yeah, you're
not gonna be that good every year. Sometimes you're gonna
have a reset year, and this Bengals team may need
a little bit of adjustments to be able to get
(27:30):
to to a higher level. Because right now, I don't
like anything I've seen. I don't like the fact that
Burrow is hurt and east he's trying to.
Speaker 5 (27:35):
Well that that's the larger piece to it, right, I
mean the loss to Cleveland. Burrow's always struggled with Cleveland
it was like their super Bowl because we watched them
the other night against Pittsburgh.
Speaker 7 (27:46):
They sucked.
Speaker 5 (27:47):
I mean, our video went viral talking about Deshaun Watson
and just how poor and poorly he's played thus far
outside of an isolated run in one and two throws right,
and then you lose the Baltimore three point game going
into the fourth. Yeah, the concern is Burrow's calf. What's
really going on there? Are we going down on Aaron
(28:08):
Rodgers Highway?
Speaker 4 (28:11):
I like he said, I like that, I like that.
I like that.
Speaker 3 (28:14):
Look, it's too much for The Bengals are in a
better division this year. As you can see. The Ravens
are still really good. The Steelers have to figure out
offensive issues. The AFC is a little bit more loaded.
Not every year is going to be a great year.
And then the other two teams, when you look at
both from the AFC West, the Chargers and the and
the Broncos, they both have issues too. Man, the Chargers
(28:35):
seem like they're the same team. They get big leads,
they can't finish Brandon Staley. They're circling around him and
and he could get fired at any moment. He might
not make it past Week three, Week four, and the
Broncos have a host of issues because they couldn't hold
on to a lead against Washington. Their defense is not
very good. They can't get off when they get off script,
(28:55):
they can't get the ball in the end zone. They
struggle too much. You don't know how much how well
Sean Payton, Russell Wilson are getting along. So even though
these are the best teams in theory the O and two,
none of them are making the playoffs. All the O
and two teams are done. So if you look in
at these here, forget it. I know it sucks. I've
seen plenty of these seasons as a Jet fan, where
hey we're owing two and the first two weeks it's done.
(29:16):
We're looking the next year already. Hopefully this year can
be fun. I'll just enjoy they play football on Sundays
and I can watch. But all of these teams have
too many issues to try to get it going. And
the Bengals is the toughest one. But really, anything you've
seen from Cincinnati so far doesn't tell me that, hey,
we can get it going. And the issues with the
Broncos and the Chargers, it's just too much.
Speaker 5 (29:35):
See how much. Everybody hates Russell Wilson. Now see how
fast that turns super genius Sean Payton. I told you
he was setting him up as a fall guy. Now
he set him up as a fall guy. Although if
people look a little closer, the play calling and execution
isn't all just one guy. Coach Sean Peyton is not
getting a free pass here. They're done, Chargers. I need
(29:58):
to drive from Herbert down the end of a game too,
right coach Coach Daley gets his wearing out consistently. But
I hold out hope that they can turn it around.
Why because that would be fun and exciting, But I'm
not optimistic.
Speaker 4 (30:15):
Bear stink exit, how about a Fresca exit? Swollen down.
Speaker 3 (30:19):
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon
live from the Tirech dot Com Studios. Coming up next. Yes,
we get into the messy injury. How bad is it?
What does it look like? And what's the big question
we got to ask? That's next right here.

Fox.

Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven

Speaker 3 (30:44):
The Jason Smith Show with My best friend Mike Harmon.
We got a big trade in the NFL to get
to coming up in a few minutes, but an injury
tonight that really has the entire country holding their breathal
Messi left to night's game for Inner Miami against Toronto.
They won the game for nothing, so that was was
(31:06):
not in dewn.
Speaker 7 (31:06):
I mean, Argentina is holding their breath.
Speaker 3 (31:10):
Well, leil look, Messi has come here. We've talked about
how this is. This is going to be looked back
at the year that soccer exploded into the mainstream fourth
major sport. Uh and and a few five years will
be right up there with baseball and basketball. A big
part of this is Messi. Obviously, Messi is the final
domino that needed to fall. The overall interest level in
(31:31):
the men's and women's national teams is kind of a
year round thing now. Uh, they play matches that we're all.
Speaker 7 (31:37):
Into friendly tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (31:39):
Yeah, the MLS is just getting bigger and bigger and
bigger with the success of all the soccer shows to
last so welcome torection. So like this is the time.
But Messi is the big domino, Like he's the He's
the one that needed to fall. Beckham was the conduit.
He was a guy that ran through the wall, and
now Leonel Messi is following through close to a generation
later being guy.
Speaker 4 (32:01):
But here's the big thing.
Speaker 3 (32:02):
Now, this is already he's only been playing for about
a month and a half and already this is a
second injury.
Speaker 4 (32:09):
And so he's an older player.
Speaker 3 (32:11):
Obviously, now you think he can come to the MLS
and still being the star player that he is, you know,
even though he's in his he is in his mid
to late thirties. Now he's thirty six, Well he thirty
seven next year. Okay, he's still gonna be able to
dominate when he plays. But is he gonna be one
of those guys that just can't stay healthy and he
plays a few games and then he's out And he
plays a few games, he gets out, and then the
(32:32):
Messy effect never really takes off because how long can
the guy play for? How long can you go with
a guy in and out of the lineup until you say,
you know what, I gotta move on. Like the excitement
of seeing Messi is awesome, but if he can't play,
if if suddenly he plays three games and it's great,
but then he's out for three weeks or he's out
for a month, then that's gonna be a really big deal, man,
(32:53):
And you've seen that. Look, it's not that his career
is going to end. You know, Miami is still gonna
pay him. But he needs to be the traveling road
show that is Leonel Messi coming to a theater near you.
And and I'm playing all the time because the MLS
season is long, right It starts beginning of February.
Speaker 4 (33:09):
And it ends at Christmas.
Speaker 3 (33:10):
You know, they take like like like two weeks off
and theny start the season again.
Speaker 4 (33:13):
And if he's not available for it, that's a really
big deal.
Speaker 3 (33:16):
You're talking about the hundreds of millions of dollars on
and billions of dollars of what he's already brought to
soccer and the MLS and with Jersey sales and attendance,
and if that goes away, yeah, that's a huge thing.
That's the only thing that can derail the growth of
soccer is here's a guy coming over to do it
and guess what, he can't stay in the lineup. That's
the only fear. And it's already coming true right here
(33:39):
because again he's been here for six weeks and already
he's had two injuries and this one. Who knows how
it's gonna keep them out for you, hoping it's not
a long time, but still six weeks, two injuries.
Speaker 5 (33:48):
Yeah, he's gonna miss Sunday's match against Orlando City. He
and Alba, who also was out of this one. We
know that he doesn't play on on turf, so that
that's part of the equation as you go through as well.
But yeah, to your point on injuries a little bit older,
(34:09):
got to make sure you protect the investment and you're
looking at the long term whatever that is, two years,
four years, however long he wants to run this out.
But they get another victory. Those betters that had him
for an anytime goal though you were laying three thirty,
three thirty to win one hundred.
Speaker 4 (34:29):
Buddy, Yeah, but it's an any time goal. Yeah, but
you know, you gotta feel.
Speaker 7 (34:34):
The problem is he didn't play anytime.
Speaker 4 (34:36):
Yeah, that's going early, that's true.
Speaker 5 (34:37):
Yeah, no, no, no, right, but yeah, so he's gonna
miss one game at a minimum, and then we'll see,
you know what what goes through. The initial reports no
new issues or muscular injuries or anything went through the
normal workouts.
Speaker 7 (34:53):
Uh, they just are.
Speaker 5 (34:55):
Chronicling it as fatigue and chalking it up to fatigue
at this point because you did have a lot of
soccer played as they were in the Cup right for
those couple of weeks. So we'll see what happens, but
certainly a big blow tonight. I was all excited coming
into the studio thinking I was had that as well
as it being time for Dodger baseball, since the White
(35:17):
Sox had already gotten drummed, and I figured nobody was
going to be replaying the Bears effort of the last
two weeks.
Speaker 3 (35:24):
The Bears have been such a big story. Man, haven't
waiting to talk Bears with you all night?
Speaker 4 (35:27):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (35:27):
No, no turns of having to sit through that game
a third time.
Speaker 4 (35:30):
Oh who cares about the game?
Speaker 5 (35:31):
Man?
Speaker 3 (35:31):
Come on, man, you got crazy ass stuff going on.
You got stuff better than the game. You don't need
to watch the game. You just needed the day in Bears.
Speaker 4 (35:38):
Today.
Speaker 5 (35:38):
There was a great rendition by David Bowie of the
classic song America you know for the Concert for Heroes
after nine to eleven, where it starts with like the
the Oregon go dude, dude, Dude, Like you're at a circus.
That's kind of what I felt like today. Every time
I refreshed X, waiting to see what the next turn
(35:59):
was from the Bear?
Speaker 4 (36:00):
What happened with the Bears? Here? Twitter? And how about
