I love putting this content out for you every single night. Well,
here we are on Wednesday, and for the time I
(01:00):
will say this, The Knicks game is ending, the varsity
game is ready to begin. WHOA, whoa?
Speaker 2 (01:06):
WHOA?
Speaker 1 (01:06):
Are you just saying that because Tyler Kolak got a
couple of minutes here at the I mean, what do
we talk see some of the guys that next had
in that game at the end. I think Walt Fraser
played a couple of minutes, was it, Daddy. I mean
you had fourteen or fifteen guys, Yeah, find their way
on to the court. Uh yeah. So they were looking
at each other like they'd never met. No, fine, am
I'm Jim, Hey I'm Alex. How you doing nice to meet?
(01:26):
Job guys were in the same laundry. Do you want
to play point card or do you want me to play?
Because I would like to play point Okay, that that's fine.
I'll play Rock Paper Scissors for that final. So yes, look,
big doubleheader of the night. The opening game, the Knicks
just roll past the Minnesota Timberwolves h fourteen. It's a
good game at half, it was, and then the Knicks
just to say, hey where the Knicks. We're pulling away.
(01:48):
Go New York, Go, New York.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
Go.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
But well, the Wolves didn't have KG, No they did.
They didn't have Tom Googleatta either. It was a huge loss.
That's that's that's that's very difficult. Sure the Googs, Yeah no,
you're not winning that game. Not winning but Marbury shoes,
I mean all of that stuff. We are now getting
potentially Western Conference Finals preview. We are getting Spurs and
(02:12):
the Lakers, Wemby and Luca are playing. I just I
did this? Did you verify that? I? Well, okay, they
show last five minutes. They showed Wemby in the locker
room getting dressed. They had a graphic on Luka doncic so,
I I have to was a graphic graphic on Luca.
We got no visual, but Luca was in the graphic.
Luca was in Laker gear, not in the slimming but
(02:35):
it wasn't a gear for him from the interwebs, like, no,
it was actually him, like it was Harry Potter with
the moving person. Well, it's like the trading cards. You
can't expect Dumbledore to stay forever. Video of Wemby, uh
before the game and a graphic of Luca. I I'm
pretty sure we're feeling good about this, Okay, Yeah, no,
that's good. And your guy Austin Reeves is ready and
(02:56):
loaded for Bear. I'm sure. I mean, look, this is
because he's like your hero. Now, this is what Look,
he's the Scottie Pippen till Luca Duncheon is Michael Jordan
Lebron's coming back. Lebron's coming back is Bill Wennington when
he comes back. I mean, come on, man, you got
Luca Is is Mike and and Austin Reeves is Pippin'
uh Ruey hot Chimore is bj Armstrong. Just be careful.
(03:22):
Phil Jackson has been lured out of whatever made because
he's got a book out, so he's doing promos. Maybe
Lebron is Luke Longley when he comes back. Maybe maybe
he's Maybe he's Horace Grant. Maybe he's Steve Kerr like Lebron.
Lebron's coming back to Grant with or without goggles. Uh,
with goggles, He's with goggles, he's a force. Yeah, no,
(03:43):
without goggles, he might be Harvey. You don't know. I
mean just look, this is a big and look and
you're saying, well, Harvey Grey played for the Wizards for long.
It was a bullet and he It all goes back
to the Harry Potter thing. Watching. Look. ESPN is doing
their intro right now. There is a big picture behind
Malika and of Wemby. There's a big one of Luca
in his Laker jersey right behind they are playing. They
(04:06):
call him Michael. Yeah, hey, listen, I don't want you
to put anything Lakers behind me, put that behind her. Okay,
I don't want that. I don't want the Lakers be
looking over my shoulder. Okay, we beat them three years
ago before I got fired. Now, if they animated that
Luca graphic, that would have been funny as hell, like
he was looking down on alone and mocking him. But really,
I mean too big. Look, this is a huge game tonight.
(04:28):
There's so much interest in this watching Luca warm up
on the court. Again, Luca's going to play right. But Wemby,
we've talked about not surprised that the Spurs are this good. Remember,
I don't like to say this, but I told you
they were my long shot NBA Finals pick because at
some point Wemby's becoming the best player in the NBA.
I thought it might take Toio closer till the All
Star break, but it's happening. Now, We're into November and
(04:49):
Wemby's the best player in the NBA.
Speaker 3 (04:51):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (04:51):
Yeah, Luca lost to Phoenix. Yeah, but it's okay. Well,
I think I think they'll take You'll take six up,
one down. I think you'll you'll take that going along
the way. So you're already giving them the victory tonight. Yeah,
you'll take well, you take the five. What I'm saying,
he'll take five, six up, one down, You'll you'll take
that for this. But the Lakers, the Lakers are so
like the Spurs are fun, right, Like they're coming back
and now finally they have a star that's more exciting
(05:14):
to watch than than Tim Duncan. Boy. I really like
watching him just you know, box out and and hit
that fade away off the glass. Boy, that's fun. That's
fun seeing that over and over and over again. But
like Wemby's made the Spurs fun, and the era of
the Spurs is here being a dominant team in the
Western Conference, right, because it's not surprising, oh, when a
guy becomes the best player in the NBA that his
(05:35):
team is gonna be good.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
Right.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
I can't believe more people weren't on the Spurs this year.
But the Lakers. This is just absolutely fascinating because this
is the exact opposite of how anyone, including Lebron, thought
this season was gonna start for the Lakers. Because you know, Leblok,
Lebron and the Lakers have been at odds. They've been
keeping him out. He's not in the circle of trust anymore.
(05:56):
He is way outside. He is way outside Ben stillers
circle of trust with Robert de Niro and meet the parents. Man,
He's so far outside. You know, both each want the
other person gone. Lebron wants to be gone. The Lakers
want him gone, and Lebron with whether he's old, whether
he just wants to sit out. You know, he is thinking, Okay,
how do I get my cachet back with the Lakers?
(06:17):
Without me? They might not start out great. Maybe Luca
lifts them a little bit and they're a five hundred
is team. But when I come back, we're better. And
then I get a little bit of my Hey, don't remember,
it's still Lebron's team. Is still Lebron's team, right, But
what have we seen instead? Luca has been terrific, And
when Luca's been out, Austin Reeves has won games all
(06:38):
by himself. And when he's out, Smith Junior, right exactly
off the bench, is scoring twenty five and twenty five
minutes the Lakers. For all the hot takes you see,
you know, the Indiana Fever are functioning better without Caitlin
Clark than they are with her. Uh. You watch the
Lakers and see how they function They are functioning incredibly
(06:59):
well without Lebron James. They're functioning well without I mean really,
I mean obviously not for a long period of time,
but nights when Luca misses, they've still been okay. Right.
You watch Austin Reeves forty points fifty points thirty in
a game winner. This team is moving the ball around,
They're getting more players involved. It is a much more
cohesive team with Austin Reeves functioning as the one A
(07:22):
or the two to Luca's one. Especially coming out of
the back court. Reeves doesn't need the ball in his
hand as much Luca can have the ball. It's not
auditioned by subtraction. It's just, hey, this fit right now
really really works, whereas last year was hey, Luca's got
the ball, Lebron's got the ball. Does anybody else really
get involved in what did you say? Did anybody really
step up when that happened? Do we think all the
(07:43):
Lakers are going to be really good? They're going to
figure things out. They figured things out without Lebron James.
I mean, think about that when he comes back. How
is he going to fit in? I feel like it's
the same conversation we had that when when sanity was
going on and Mellow was hurt, which is why insanity happened,
And the questions were, uh, Mellow, how are you going
to fit into this offense when you come back? What
do you mean for it's my offense? This guy's been
(08:06):
around for about a day and a half. What do
you talk? But that's really where the Lakers are. They
look better so far without Lebron James. I never thought
i'd say that, Yet here we are. Well, I mean
some of it. I think if you went to Carmelo,
first off, and you brought any of that up, he'd
have flashbacks. Oh well, I mean him and Phil Jackson
are still fighting now about them? No, that's it Phil
(08:27):
doing this thing with his you know, top seventy five book.
He and Sam Smith, a longtime beat rider for the
Bulls going through and now a great singer. Oh yeah, no, No,
they were all with Dan Patrick and he validated a
point I've made for a long time. What's that? He said?
The guy you wished he would have coached was Christian Laytner.
How about that they're selling the Christian Layightner thing forever
(08:49):
that he was just in a terrible uh oh circumstance.
He was a t wolf for all those years. But
you look at what the Lakers have been and he
got what six seven guys averaging exactly averaging double digit
figures at this point, including Nick Smith Junior in his
three games. La Ravia has been fantastic off the bench.
(09:11):
Reeve's average still averaging nine assists per game. So you're
moving the ball and guys are finding their roles, and
you me, you know, harken back to last year where
there's a lot of standing around with all right, who,
how's this flowing? I mean, how many possessions did each
guy take off? Where you can go back and isolate,
all right, there's Luca. He's not even in frame right,
hands on the hip as Lebron takes the ball or
(09:33):
vice versa, and overall it's still played. It played well,
it's just disjoin it here. For this first part of
the season, with Lebron on the shelf, they've been able
to figure it out. When Luca's not there. Everybody's relishing
the extra minutes, the extra touches, knowing that they might
be part of a deal. Like that's the other part,
Like a lot of these guys are just trying to
find their mark to show their value either with JJ
(09:57):
Reddick and what the Lakers are building or if not,
auditioning for another team. Because there's no way I don't
believe at all that this is where we're at anywhere
near the trade deadline in terms of what this Lakers
roster looks like, whether Lebron's gone or still there or
whatever the ancillary parts. Are you making tweaks or are
you saying we need another big player in the antelary
(10:20):
parts need I don't know, I know we need a
big player. Can't get I gonna get Wemby. So but
I mean, this is this is the worst nightmare for
Lebron James because the one thing Lebron has always never
had to fight about has been relevant. Right, That's why
this is a big deal. Lebron has been the straw
that has stirred the drink in the NBA for twenty years.
(10:41):
Still at this point, he is the number one star
in the league that everybody talks about, that that that
moves the needle. Yeah, it's great to talk about. We
talk a lot about Wemby does. It doesn't do what
Lebron does. I love talking about the Knicks. Knicks are relevant,
Nicks are huge, not as big as Lebron. Twenty years
he has had no matter what he has done, the
one thing he has ever had has been wait a minute,
(11:02):
I'm just the I'm the second guy in the Buddy
Cop movie. I'm I'm the I'm the sidekick, I'm the
he's not been that guy. I'm not gonna lie. I've
really enjoyed these first couple of weeks of the NBA
season because this is i mean, we we talked about
it a little bit, but because of this marquee matchup
against the Spurs, this is the first time that it's
fully in focus. I'm enjoying just watching the rest of
the NBA and seeing these guys getting their shine. Right.
(11:24):
You got wem Bin Yama and Castle a nice one
to two in their own rights right now that Castle
is healthy and giving you the minutes he is, uh
And you look at some of the other young stars
who talk about your Nicks and and laughers like they
pulled off today. It was good that that Ann Edwards
is back and able to play and all, but and
Yann is putting up points whether he becomes a Nick
(11:45):
later on, but that Lebron doesn't have to be the
focal point to coverage, right, and and that top part
of a funneling down of NBA stories. There are plenty
of other stars taking their shine and and taking up
the oxygen in the room. When he comes back, great,
But for now he's over there. He's just in time out.
(12:06):
But he's gone. Look, he's still playing. He's still he
still needs to figure out a way. And maybe this
is why he's sitting out because I got to figure
out a way to to be be the guy again. Right,
He's never That's the thing. He's never been that guy.
He's never had to be the Oh maybe now I'm
lower in the pecking order, whether you and and if
he came into this year and it was him and Luca,
(12:26):
you could say, Okay, I'm okay with it being Lucas team,
but still everybody knows it's really my team and when
the playoffs come, I'm the guy taking the shots because
he's always been a big playoff performer, So I'm okay
with that. But now it's he's getting such shunted aside
to the point where where you really wonder, like, how
is he gonna handle not being the story. And I've
said this here, I can't. I still have a hard
(12:47):
time envisioning Lebron James suiting up for this Laker team,
with the way the offseason has gone and how they
have said to him, you are not our guy. We
would like you to go, and he says, I would
like to go. I still I can't believe he's actually
gonna play. But that's the most fascinating store in the NBA.
What kind of role he has when he comes back?
Is it the number three guy? How does he adjust
(13:07):
with not being that big star again?
Speaker 4 (13:10):
Like?
Speaker 1 (13:10):
How is he just gonna be really sullen and surly
the entire time? Is he gonna be funny and not caring?
Is he gonna play once and then not come back
for the three weeks? Like that's fascinating because I don't
know how he's gonna handle this. I'll take you back
to arriving at Northwestern. I went to a competitive high
school in the in Chicago and a lot a lot
of smart people, a lot of people smarter than me.
(13:31):
But then I get to Northwestern and I'm used to
that A lot of people that came to Northwestern were
not used to that. They were the smartest kid by far,
and all of their reaches across the country and globally,
and then all of a sudden they were getting smacked
around in those classes didn't go so well. Lebron is
finally seeing that for the first time in his life.
(13:51):
He's that little kid with the book back, going, yeah,
this ain't so easy anymore. I mean, he might be
the number three guy in the Lakers if he ever
look at you. In promotion, Austin Reeves. For over forty years,
tire Rack's been open. Customers find the right tires for how,
what and where they drive, shipped fast and free, backed
by free road hazard protection with convenient installation options like
(14:13):
mobile tire installation. Tire rack dot Com is the way
tire buying should be. More in the night in the NBA,
coming up, Lakers and Spurs just tipping off right now.
Luca has hit a three to give the Lakers a
three to two lead. But coming up next, how about
a couple of big NFL hot takes the day after
the NFL trade deadline. That's next, right here, Jason to

NBA on the way Game of the Night. Spurs lead
the Lakers right now thirteen to eight, midway through the
first quarter. We'll continue to keep you updated on this game.
Wemby versus Luca both are playing. Everybody seems find no
load management tonight. Yes, I gotta say, like that's already
gotten out of control. You know, we're seven games in
and already load management and seeing guys just rested across
(16:05):
the board, Like you know, we're not even gonna pretend
that it's a thing anymore. We're gonna try to hide
behind it. It's just yeah, these guys are all missing. Now,
what are you gonna do? I mean we talked about
last night. I mean you were incensed by the eight
o'clock start time. I was more upset that Kawhi was
watching like we were against an Oklahoma City thunder team,
defending champs, coming undefeated all of that. Hey, here's a
(16:28):
big marquee event. Could you do this for the new
TV partner? I'll see you in Hell. No, I'm not working.
I mean, who's like, like, the Warriors are missing? What
seven guys? You know, Curry is sick and there's Ah
he's dang. Like It's like now, teams really because of
the play, not just because of the plan, but as
a result of it, teams don't really care anymore. Well,
(16:50):
we want to be in the top six, sure, but
if we're seven through ten, all right, we've seen teams
run to the NBA unless we got the mutant courts
because the Cup is live. We're okay, We're yeah, we're
okay here. So the teams just don't care as much
about the regular season, and now you are seeing it
in just a brazen way, like I don't really care anymore.
It used to be, Hey, this guy's hurt. We're not
(17:12):
gonna we're gonna hide him from the media today even
though he's you know, we're gonna keep him in the back,
say he's getting treatment but he's not really hurt. But
he's not gonna play tonight. We're gonna say he's dinged up.
We gotta hide it. Though nobody's say anything. Now it's just, yeah,
these guys are all missing. Yeah, Steph's out, Draymond's out,
all the all those guys are what's the matter with him?
Steph is sick? And you know, somebody has a has
(17:33):
a concert to go to, and there's you know, somebody's
kid is in a recital, and and yeah, just play
something outside of rest okay in the second week of
the season, unless you're Zion Williamson, who's already on the
shelf saying rest and that you need the time off
for Eddie. Come on, like, what are we doing here?
I know it's a long slog and we've talked about
this forever. I appreciate the product, appreciate the wear and
(17:56):
tear on the body and everything else. But you're two
weeks into the season. Yeah, I mean you want to
talk Hey December January and you need and you need
a day. I can understand that you're on a five
game roadie. Fine hair, Nah, I got another way. I
did appreciate though, because we we do get the matchup,
(18:17):
as you've talked about with Luca and Wemby both playing.
Uh DeAndre Ayton just went in with one of the
weakest efforts in the low post. I've seen Wemby just
laid in wait and that went up and blocked the
thing in this Come on, man, I something strong. Yeah,
but I think sometimes when you get the ball and
you go in and you go, why he's he's got this. Yeah, okay,
you know what, I'm not gonna physically exert myself because
(18:39):
he's he's gonna block, but go in and then make
him work for the block. You basically said, here, here's
a here's one of those highlights that Adam Silver loves
so much. He's so big. It's like running He's so
it's like big. When you get close to him, he's
got his hands. It's like running into it. Like in
a in a in a science fiction movie when when
there's like killer spiders that are like that are like,
(19:00):
you know, fifty feet big, it's like running into a
big back to the William Shatner classic Kingdom of the Spiders,
back where are the Spiders? Spa tarantulis now like when
you run it up, you go, I'm running into this
and and I'm not getting out of this web. The
web is just way too big. The spider is fifty
feet big. I'm gonna I'm done. I'm just gonna jump
in and just stick right on the wall. Right, That's
what's gonna happen, spider Man. Spider Man. Now, day after
(19:23):
the NFL trade deadline and something that we've talked about,
like we hit on this on Monday night. We talked
about it and all, as always, congratulations to everybody who
picked up the topic in the last day or so.
It catches up eventually, but today the Cardinals announced Kyler
Murray will go on injured reserve as he continues to
try to rehabilitate his foot injury. Right, so now we
(19:45):
push this story forward because now I got something for
you even better on this Is that worth one hundred
thousand dollars? Fine? Monday? Monday, we said, you know what,
it's really time for the Cardinals to move on from
Kyler Murray. They have to find a way to trade
him in the off season. We said, it's not gonna
happen by Tuesday, obviously because he's injured the money that's
due the dead cap, but you really need to move
on because you're seeing with Jacobe Brissett, who's not the answer.
(20:07):
But when your number two guy who's been a backup
in the league for a long time can come in
and play better than your starter, you know, we've gone
as far as we can with the Kyler Murray experience,
and somebody else is going to say, yes, we will
take him. There's many different quarterback gurus that think, oh,
we can turn him into something, whether it's the Jets
(20:30):
or the Dolphins or the Browns, or somebody's gonna say, oh, no,
I know how to do it.
Speaker 2 (20:34):
We can do it.
Speaker 1 (20:34):
Okay, so you figure out the money, you figure out
a trade, right, Money's always figure outable. It's always figure
out able. You can always figure it out. Figure out able.
I made that up right now, figure out able. So yeah,
Kyler Murray is going to be traded in the off
sea and maybe the Cardinals get to point where they
just let him go and eat whatever money they need
to eat. However, now you want to push this forward here,
(20:57):
he is on ir now, so he's got to miss
at least four games, which will take you into December. Today,
Jonathan Gann and head coach of the Cardinals, said it
isn't season ending. Murray's got a chance to return if
his foot gets healthy. Quote, I really do hope that happens.
We got a lot of ball to play one day
at a time where he sits right now, he's got
(21:18):
to pour into his health bucket and get ready to
get healthy. I will give you this Bowl prediction right now,
Kyler Murray has played his final game for the Arizona Cardinals.
Because you know, you can see you and see the
writing on the wall. You can see they know they
have to move on from him, right They're knowing this.
Seeing Brissette play Monday night against Dallas and I really
(21:39):
like Dallas defense, but still seeing him do this, you
know we're moving on. You want to be able to
trade him. You don't have to just cut and move on.
And if he's not healthy, that's going to be really,
really difficult to do. You put him out there and
a guy that's had a trouble staying healthy late in
the season, he gets hurt in December, what if he's
(21:59):
not healthy? In Mark teams are gonna say, yeah, I
like Kyler Murray, but man, there's like seven quarterbacks. We
can go in the first round and we can get
Garrett Nutsmeyer at seventeen. You know, we can get Ty
Simpson at twenty two. Whatever it's going to be. I
think I kind of like that and said it's a
little bit too much of a gamble for me. So
he's got to be healthy at the end of the
number one thing for the Cardinals. He's got to be
(22:20):
healthy at the end of the season. So it's pretty
easy quite honestly. You have a quarterback that the team
is playing better with, so you leave him in there.
If you get to December and you're still in the
thick of it, he gets to stay the quarterback. If
you're not. He still stays the quarterback because he's the
backup and Kyler Murray's got to stay healthy. Ey Ei
this bolt, he's played his last down for the Arizona Cardinals. Yeah,
(22:44):
I don't think there's any way you bring him back
at this point. Foot injuries like the nebulous back thing
where you can drag that out as long as you want,
and that is always what has made Kyler Murray special
is his ability to scramble, to improvise, and to make plays.
What did that not? You great success with his other
teammates this year in trying to do that when he
(23:05):
was still at one hundred percent, Marvin Harrison Junior was
reduced to a bystander and usually didn't really anticipate the
ball finding him, which is why you had some of
the drops issues where it just there was no connection.
Marvin Harrison Junior is right now the happiest guy in
the world. Why he was the game plan for this week,
and he's got a guy that delivers the ball on time.
(23:26):
Guess what he gets what he wants because he's the
guy you're moving forward with. Kannon. Also, he's like Tua,
I don't want him in front of a microphone. He
sounds like an idiot every time he gets in front
of a microphone. Yeah, but you can't, but you can't
restrict coaching. But he did that for He's done four
or five interviews and his story has changed. You sit
down with whoever your trainer is, sit down with a
(23:47):
pr person and get your story right and stick to
the speaking. Cardinals, come on, man, They're lucky that every
week they can actually get the cameras working. I was
so hopeful this year that they were finally going to
take a step forward after defense, they did all that
stuff for Harrison.
Speaker 2 (24:03):
Here we go.
Speaker 1 (24:03):
Connor gets hurt every fine they got trade back. Oh no,
he gets hurt. Now you got De Mercado and cast
of thousand Banana the tailpipe every year with the Cardinals.
Every year with the Cardinals, and they're in the division
where there there is no ability to uh slip. No,
because because every team is much better. Even the forty
nine ers, who I think are absolutely overrated, I'm not
(24:25):
going to believe in them, even they are much better.
They're good enough on any given Sunday to come and
get you. Yeah, and if they get healthy, but they're
they're a problem. But for the Cardinals with with Kyler Murray.
You know, look, the Jets gave Justin Fields two years,
forty million dollars the tail ye Mendoza next year. Phan,
(24:47):
I mean, you keep going down, like you keep going
to fire. I'm like, I like the physical to us.
He's also a guy that helped get Brian Kelly fire.
So but unless that was the plan, you never know. Checkers,
but you're doing chess. He was playing chess for the
rest of his year before becoming a potential top pick
of the draft. I like the cut of your jim.
(25:08):
But for Kyler Murray, we've seen him play well in Spurts.
Can't stay healthy. That has been the knock forever, and
now you have all this nebulous stuff. I only have
joke about the Cardinals. They should be writing a giant
ass check for the way they've handled this because this
has been like if Lamar Jackson. I mean, because that
was ham handed the thing against the Bears before you
(25:29):
saw snooph On Lee out there. This is one hundred
times worse what they've done because they're fumbling over their
words and how they're going, oh now we're gonna put
them on ir Yeah, like wait a minute, Thursday or Friday,
he was probably gonna start for Monday's game. And between
then and now, what happened? What did I miss?
Speaker 3 (25:48):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (25:48):
They played well against the Dallas defense, and suddenly you
have great confidence in Jacoby Brissett for the rest of
this year. Ham handed Now meanwhile, outside of the okay,
it's almost a ham season. He has played his last
down for the Cardinals had run. The Colts are hoping
(26:08):
to get Sauce Garter to make his debut this week
they play Overseas. Uh, not sure yet because he was
in concussion protocol and when the team had to buy
you don't need to go through all the different U
qualifications to get back, So they're hoping to get him back.
Shane Sikin said, that's the plan. They're hoping to get
him back this weekend when they play London, and they
can't wait to unwrap him and all the and I
(26:31):
get it, and let me just say this, just wait.
You'll see. You'll see you have an expectation for a
Sauce Gardener that is through the roof that you're gonna
throw him out there, and Drake Lennon's gonna say, please stop,
I can't even get open and gets a bath. You'll see.
You'll see he's not the same guy. You're gonna put
him in zone coverage. That's great. You traded for a guy.
(26:53):
You're gonna give him thirty five million dollars years. We
can play a cornerback in zone coverage. Okay, everybody thinks
you're getting the Sauce Gardener that was four years ago.
Sauce Gardener. He is not that guy. And you and
I talked about some of the metrics that have been
out there for him the last couple of days where
he ranks at the top of the NFL, and I'm like,
you gotta be kidding me, man, that's not the case.
(27:15):
You see what the quarterback rating is when they're targeting
Sauce guarded quarterback ratings are over one fifteen. Like this
is trust me, I've seen every snap the guy's played.
He's not the guy he was last year, who was
not the guy who was the year before that, who
is not nearly the guy he was as a rookie
right now. A lot of it is we talked about
the rule change, the hand the hand responsibilities that you
(27:35):
can't get away with anymore. That has always whistled. It's
not all on him. It's a different way they call
the game, and that really screwed him. But you think
you're getting this guy that's gonna come in and say
I got everything. Yeah, just wait. Just just remember me
saying it. This is not me being bitter Jets fan.
I'm just saying just wait. You think you're getting one
thing with Sauce Gardener and you're not. You're getting something else.
(27:56):
Just wait. Lua Anna Rumo is ready to make magic
just way in Germany this week. How about that? So
go get yourself a nice big stein Indianapolis six and
a half point favorite. Uh, we'll see if he gets
the matched up with Drake London a bunch because right
now they got nobody else that scares you out of
it except Robinson Nijean. You're staying him out of the backfield,
(28:19):
but that's not what I do. But he's their best player.
The rest of their receivers still on the side of Milkirk.
You cover Kyle Pitts. Do we still need to cover
Kyle Pitts? The breakout is not happening. Okay, we're not.
Morooney actually gonna play this week. I mean it's not
gonna be crazy because Sauce Gardener. Yes, it's not a
it's not a great day. It's not. It's not a
(28:40):
great day for a matchup against a team with with
with tons of great offensive options where we have to
stop this guy outside of Robinson. But they're gonna expect
one thing out of Sauce Gardener and it's not gonna
be there. And the Colts are gonna go, huh, that's
not what I thought was gonna happen. That's not it's
not the guy we thought. We're gonna bring it shut.
Just watch just on Robinson London and a lot of
(29:01):
question marks. Exit out about a Fresco exit swollen down
the Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carmen
time out to find out what's trending in the wide
world of sports of someone who dressed as Philly Karen
for Halloween. It's Monty Belangyo's that's right.
Speaker 4 (29:14):
I did.
Speaker 3 (29:15):
Thanks to you, Jason for giving me the suggestion.
Speaker 1 (29:18):
On a late notice. That's what I'm here for you.
Speaker 3 (29:21):
Yeah, and we had other ideas that we want sharing
case you know, maybe I'd decide to still do it, Okay,
But yeah, we talked about it, and you really inspired me,
so thank you.
Speaker 2 (29:29):
It came out.
Speaker 1 (29:30):
How come you're not wearing the wig anymore? I think
you would still wear the wig.
Speaker 2 (29:33):
You know.
Speaker 3 (29:34):
I like my hair. I like my long hair, and
I like my darker hair. And I really was scaring people.
People legit thought, I like snuck into this studio and
they were going to introduce my, introduce themselves to me,
or escort me out the building.
Speaker 1 (29:49):
Wow, that's how much they didn't recognize me. Okay, Martin
couldn't even do the show. Well, he just kept staring
at me. I won't say. When I saw you post
a picture of yourself as Philly Karen, I knew it
was you.
Speaker 2 (30:00):
You and I talked about it.
Speaker 1 (30:01):
Yeah, so is that why you knew? But well, it
also still looked like you kind of. I mean, you
didn't do anything to alter the face. Yeah, I am
with you.
Speaker 2 (30:11):
I am just telling you.
Speaker 3 (30:12):
Most people's reaction was that I did not look like
myself at all.
Speaker 1 (30:16):
I will say this though, that is impressive because generally
folks can wander around here and nobody says it word. Yeah,
they just assume they're working on another show or something.
I was like, I don't know, so the fact that
they actually, yeah, I had a question for a minute
was good. Yeah, that's right, that's right.
Speaker 3 (30:32):
We'll start in the NBA, fellas, where all the threes
are falling for the Spurs. Really, they've already hit four
in the first quarter, while the Lakers are one of eight.
So the Spurs of a twenty three to eighteen lead
late in the first but Luka Danciic eight points so far,
No Austin Reeves for La in this one. Nikola Jokich
of course, almost to a triple double twenty one points,
eight rebounds and eleven assists, and we're only halfway through
(30:53):
the third quarter where their Nuggets are leading the eighty
two to seventy five down to the final four minutes.
In Dallas as a Pelican are on top of the
Mavericks ninety four to eighty eight. Cooper Flag has sixteen
points and eight rebounds. Klayt Thompson came off the bench
for this one in Dallas, the Thunder on top of
the Blazers right now, thirty six to sixteen late in
the first quarter. Kings losing at home to the Warriors
(31:15):
after the first quarter thirty two to twenty five and
the Warriors are playing without Jimmy Butler and without Steph Curry.
The games that have wrapped up Cavaliers over the seventy
six ers, Pistons over the Jazz, the Nets get their
first win of the season. They outscored the Pacers win
twelve to one oh three. Celtics cruise pass. The Wizards
won thirty six to one oh seven. Rockets defeated the
Grizzlies won twenty four to one oh nine. John Rant
(31:36):
seventeen points in the loss, and the Knicks came alive
in the second half and took over beat the Timberwolves
one thirty seven to one fourteen. When it comes to
the NHL, the Flames right now on top of the
Blue Jackets two to one after the first period, and
another historic milestone for Alexovechkin. He has reached nine hundred
career goals as the Capitals crushed the Blues already six
to one. A little NFL for you Cardinals quarterback. You
(31:59):
guys just talked about Kyler Murray on IR because of
his foot injury. Texans r quarterbacks CJ shot out for
Week ten against Jacksonville because of his concussion. Davis Smills
will get the start on Sunday and forty nine ers
quarterback Brock Party Limited in practice once again. Back to
you guys, Thanks a bunch mine.

Fox Sports Radio. Jason Smith Show with My best friend
Mike Harmon. Time now for the Play of the Day.
The play of the Day is of course, brought to
you by ti iraq dot com for over forty years.
Tire Rack's been open customers find the right tires for how,
what and where they drive. Shipped fast and free backed
by free road, has a protection with convenient installation options
(33:30):
like mobile tire installation. Ti rack dot com is the
way tire buying should be. Well, no preamble, no gay,
But when you score a milestone goal, the first person
to get to nine hundred in the NHL, alex Ovechkin,
you get to be the play of the day. At
(33:52):
a pluck behind to at Benningchen, we're going to play it,
and he gave it away to Wolveatchkan. The pluck's centered
up here for Check for the drive and a pluck
that is its nine one.
Speaker 4 (34:02):
Hundred guys for Alexander Ostend.
Speaker 1 (34:09):
The nine one hundred club has its first paper, so
there it is Capital's radio network on the call. Yes,
the first person to hit the nine hundred goal mark
in NHL history. Alex Ovechkin, of course very publicly broke
the record. Broke Wayne Gretzky's record last year against the Islanders.
(34:29):
Came into this year with eight hundred and ninety seven.
Now this is this is a great debate, and I
love this topic because we we we talk a lot
about when's the next time we're getting a three hundred
game winner in Major League Baseball? When's the next three
thousand hit member we're gonna get if we're ever gonna
get one again? Like, Okay, we've seen that. I've seen
guys get the three thousand. It's I've seen guys get
the three hundred wins. I've seen that, But this is
(34:51):
something we've never seen. Every goal Alex Ovechkin scores continues
to improve his record nine hundred goals. He is forty
years old than the final year of his contract. A
thousand would really be something, big fat number, right, the
one thousand goals, Now here's the thing. Coming off of
(35:13):
last year, I said, yeah, he'll get there. It's a
little over two years because he scored forty four goals
last year. Ye Now, the run to get to Gretzky's record,
I'm sure help him a little bit. So when you're
forty thirty nine years old and you score forty four goals, okay,
I got to think in a couple of years you're
gonna get there. But thirteen games so far this year,
(35:35):
that's just the third goal of the year for Alexovechkin,
and he's got to get to at least nine to thirty.
You want to say, if he thinks about saying, I'll
continue to do it. But even then you have to
think you're two full seasons away from getting there. So
I thought coming into this year, I'm like, Okay, he'll
score forty four goals, he'll finish at nine thirty five, nine,
(35:59):
and then go, hey, man, nine to forty. I can
see one thousand, right, I can see it. I'll come
back for another year. I'm gonna score thirty or forty goals.
Then let's say I really slow down my final year,
I only score twenty. I'll get to a thousand, right cause,
cause I have carte blanche to play for the Capitol
as long as I want. As long as I'm not
making big, drastic demands and salary wise, they'll let me stay.
(36:24):
But now a thousand seems so far away. I thought
for sure the end of last year he was gonna
get it. But when you get to be forty and
you start out and you have three goals in thirteen games,
that's not a big. That doesn't pour ten that I
think you can get there, because look, father time catches
up with you all at once. Father Time doesn't just
I'm gaining. I'm gaining.
Speaker 2 (36:45):
No.
Speaker 1 (36:45):
Father Time just grabs you from behind and pulls you
down right, That's what happens. So that like the big
DK Metcalf Buda Baker play from from like four years ago,
that's what father time does. And now three and thirteen games,
he's got to go on an absolute heater. And even
like I said, even if he gets another thirty this
year in his last fifty games, fifty five, that's not
(37:06):
close enough. I thought for certain he was there. Now
that this thirteen game star tells me, yeah, man, he's
not gonna and this is gonna be his last year.
And life comes at you fast man. You know you
look at three and thirteen games. I really thought we
were gonna go back to last night when Drew Dowdy
uh set the team record for the Kings for most
goals by a defenseman, passing Rob Blake with one hundred
(37:27):
and sixty two. Congratulations Drew Dowdy. But I mean we
look at this getting to nine hundred, this this is
gonna stand seemingly forever. I mean, your next guy's on
the list that are active sid the kid has six
hundred and thirty four, he's thirty eight, right, and then
you go to Stamcoast and then it's a drop to
you know, the guys that are just getting underway. So
(37:49):
maybe whatever, But we talk about salaries, we talk about,
you know, all the other considerations of trying to have
this longevity and the game changing as they all do
and it evolve. But for for Avechkin, it's a it's
a hell of a run. Like I just remember him
first coming onto the scene. It seems like yesterday. So
(38:10):
you blink and all of a sudden, he's a forty
year old guy. Uh slogging and logging away. The impressive
thing is he's done this, you know, even with the
scoring drought, he got to this mark. It's only fourteen
games more than what Gretzky played in his career. So
I mean, you talk about parallels and and running it together,
but nine hundred nice even number. I'm out, but yeah,
(38:33):
you know. But here's the thing though, is that that's
why this is so cool because this goes, this goes
way past hockey in that when you think of the
big records in the history of sports. You think about okay, uh,
you think of Emitt Smith's rushing record. I don't know,
if the top of my head, with the exact numbers.
I don't thinknybody does. I don't think Emtt Smith does.
What the exact number of his rushing records? Does? You
think about the home runs? Barry Bond seven sixty two? Okay?
(38:56):
You know, Hank Aaron seven fifty five, that was always
we had that, Willy Mays at six sixteen, right, right,
Babe Ruth at seven fourteen, like those were numbers that
were you had forever. There's only a handful of numbers
in sports that you can reside and you hear that
number and you off top you that's how many home
runs for this guy? That's this, that's this, Ted Williams
four h six, right, you know for two? This is sure.
(39:19):
This is a it's a it's a crazy thing to
think that hockey, this would be the number one most
well known, right, yeah. Thousand goals thousand, yeah, Alexevetchkin one
thousand goals in Angel Street, one thousand goals, one thousand goals.
It would be it would it would break it would
be bigger than home runs, be bigger than than rushing yards,
bigger than touchdowns. Whatever you want to say, win wins
(39:41):
for a coach in NFL history, whatever number you could say,
one thousand goals. Yeah, that that cuts through everything, and
that would be the number one record people would know.
People our age growing up would know that record. Gen
Z would know up knowing that record, knowing it's a
thousand goals for a guy, it's nice. It's the biggest
even round number you could think of that someone and
can get to it's a thousand, and instead it doesn't
(40:03):
look like he's gonna get there. It's sad. No, yeah,
means sad. Look, you never know. He could go on
a little bit of a tear and not looking ahead
on the schedule. But as we talk about, you know,
you're forty years old, you're already in rarefied air, still skating.
At the point, obviously I mentioned Pete Rose, you get
to your record forty two fifty six, which he probably
inscribed nine hundred billion times before he passed. But for Ovechkin, yeah,
(40:26):
it would be nice to get to a thousand, But yeah,
that looks like a very difficult task at this point.
It looks so close at the end of last year,
and now now it looks so far away. We were
chronicling at the end of last season. Yeah, it's great
exit out about a Fresca exit. Swollen down The Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carmon coming up
nets more on Spurs, Lakers, and we break down the
(40:48):
biggest sports debate of the last thirty six hours. That's next,
Jason to Mike Fox.
