Speaker 2 (00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Greetings, Happy Wednesday, Welcome inside a glorious star studded sun
is shining Wednesday here at Fox Sports Radio. Star spangled,
silver studded, gold plated. Let's go. It's the Jesse Winker
Show alongside my best friend Jesse Winker, live from the
Jesse Winker Studios. Recognizing every day I come into these studios,

(00:52):
my colleagues all need to go get hearing tests. Every
last one of you said, hey, glorious, And it just
popped like wow, a glorious day. Yes, maybe it was
the angels singing like Jim Harbaugh. It could have been.
It could have been, or it was just you know,
me watching Jesse Winkers walk off again again? How many
times to watch it? That? More than the Alvarez home

(01:15):
run was great, Like that's one of those that should
have been on a baseball car. Yeah. Yeah. Well, the
thing is I was because I was a sport Flix
so you could see multiple versions of it. But the
thing it was, it was I watched the game because
on MLB Network T so I was able to watch
the game very easily. So bunch of times after it
was over. And the thing is, my best friend from

(01:37):
ESPN went to the game to he's a big Orioles
fan and he went to the game. Oh good for him.
So right after it was over, I racked it back
to show the show the home run, and I sent
him a text and I said, hey, I don't know
if your internet is working, but here just in case
or maybe the scoreboard is out at the game. And
he sent me back blank. And you that's like five

(01:57):
minutes after. Did he do it like we do on
air where you pause and you send the first part
and then the second, So well I did. I did
this same well, because because when you send a text
and you you write something and then you send a
video or picture, sometimes it just flips it and it
sends the picture and then stuff under And I don't
want that. I want to I want to make sure
they want to set it up. Yeah, no, Hey my internet.
Just in case your internet's not working or the scoreboard

(02:20):
of the game is out, here's a different ancle And
he sent it to me. He wrote back blank you
now we get to go stew in traffic for three hours.
I just wrote back, m stew in traffic. Then you
set a picture of disco stew that you created via
AI of him sitting in traffic. That would be good.
Did you text any of our friends from Baltimore? Disco

(02:41):
Stuso has some Uzo for Tuso. Anytime you get the
Uzo in that's a that's a win as well.

Speaker 3 (02:49):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
Yes, we're locked the tirac dot Com studios direct dot Com.
I'll help you get there. An unmatched selection, fast, free shipping,
free road hazard protection, over ten thousand recommended installers. Tiract
dot com is the way tire buying should be. Well,
we got a lot of big NFL to get to tonight.
Uh and and nowhere on the list will be hard
knocks with the Bears, Buddy, this show. Come on, man,

(03:11):
what did I tell you it was gonna be boring?
I told you it's gonna be awful and you can
get okay, at some point they're this show is terrible.
I told I told you it was gonna be terrible
for the number. Look, the Giants in Theory should have
been a nothing burger, because these are the two organizations
that fought like hell to never be part of it
because either the objectionable because mayab you got older, older

(03:33):
folks running the show, right, particularly when you look at
the Bears uh and their ownership and who's still calling
the shots, whether it's emeritith status and just kind of
a nod and a wink to actually what's going on.
But they have a no profanity rule out of respect
for the McCaskey family, So okay, they're not getting cursed out.
So that's one. And the Eberflus is boring as hell.

(03:55):
The most interesting thing about him is his beard and
his haircut that he got last week, and every interview,
like every time he's talking to a player, it feels like,
all right, you guys might have already had that conversation,
can you do it again for us for the camera?
So like leaning in and the whole thing. All right,
he's doing the active listening thing. No, it's terrible last

(04:15):
week was a full thing on DJ Moorett going to
an ice cream museum and his kids were great and
his wife was great. Like that was all fine and good.
It was ten minutes of Tyler, how do you as
good as I think for your team? Yes? I know,
I know, yeah, for your team? Right, I'm excited. Looks good.
I don't care who eu OC is because Kayleb william

(04:35):
is one of those guys saying, yeah, that's great. Here's
what we're gonna do. Right, I don't care, I don't care.

Speaker 4 (04:39):
I love.

Speaker 1 (04:39):
But this is Waldron. This is not the Waldron that
lost for the UH today. This is awful. This is
bad television. You've been out. You've been out televisioned by
an off season New York Giants Hard Knocks that didn't
have any football in it. No, but that's the beauty
of it. It's worse than a show, oh that didn't

(05:00):
even have football in it. Yeah, but here you can
watch Joe Shane in his office and his kid and
just continuing to throw Daniel Jones under the bus, and
you still better than that, and the Saquon Barkley call. Hey,
you probably should go to call us back, right, You're
gonna give us another chance. Please, please, please say you'll
call us back. I mean, you at least saw a
level of ineptitude that really should not have been disclosed,

(05:24):
and they have final rights on that. So someone looked
at that and said, yeah, you know what, let's just
make the excuses for the year right now. Is almost
what they said. Whereas with the Bears, you're getting a
little bit of a run and showing that Caleb is
well liked by his teammates, which is good, and some
of the things he's capable of, and little vignettes. We

(05:46):
keep waiting for, you know, someone to show up with
the violin and give me a backstory on one of
these guys. But otherwise, yeah, it's pretty straightforward. I mean, Bears,
your twenty twenty four mayor if somebody did one of
those lists, like hey, seasons of hard Knocks ranked right,
you see, you could find anywhere you can find anything
ranked online. I'm working on right, I got a whole
site that's going up on it. Yes, Mike Harmon, pairs

(06:06):
of shorts ranked like that would be there. This would
be at the one, purple two, they're all purple. This
Razor Ramones would be top notch. Yeah, this would be
at the very bottom. No, it's terrible. This would be
at the absolute very body. But you know what. The
other thing it is sure is that they'll never be
bothered again. And I think that the Bears. That's partly calculation.
A minute, now, wait a minute, you're never coming back

(06:27):
here again. I didn't suck. It's bad. Television can only
take saber tooth, can only take it so far, Live Schreiver.
I'm never going to Chicago again. I didn't think about
that as a strategy, strategy, sucking, never cur saying none.
All these things that are on a list of so

(06:49):
like in ten years when they go, what about the best? No,
we went there at twenty four. Oh that's what. Yeah,
all right, remember look all those things that are available
on streaming services. Are they ever gonna go? I can
watch this thing. No they're not. I'm none of it.
It's awful. It's unless unless they're the families of the
backup quarterbacks who've gotten way too much run. You can't

(07:11):
mean there are people too, But I mean, come on,
so from from what has been the bottom of the
barrel in the NFL, hey, hey, as a television show, Yeah,
I didn't say the bear, dude. That's why I feel
I have to preface you ever satwise, I'm gonna tank you.
You know I love the bears. That Like, how many
times do I have to keep saying it? You're like
so needy in a relationship where you didn't tell me

(07:33):
you loved me in the last eighteen seconds. No, no,
not that at all. I need to tell me you
love that at all. I just want to make you
learn that that doesn't get cut off of you saying
the worst, the worst thing going. You haven't told me
you loved me since he woke up this morning. I
brush my teeth in a decade, I haven't told me
you loved me. I've been sitting up watching you sleep
for the last hour and a half and you didn't
wake up. It's not creepy at all. I need, I need,

(07:56):
I need. I need to be something validated personally. I
need to validated you to tell me you love me.
Please tell me you let's die. I told you I'm
not like the bear.

Speaker 5 (08:04):
You know.

Speaker 1 (08:05):
It was one of those things that you just take
the steed and uh and take care of, like the
little Tamagucci was Toamaguchi, right the plants and the animals
that you had to she was an ice skater. You're
thinking about that, Christy who did the commercials mc donald. No,
that's what you're thinking. Yes, no, the Olympics are over. No,
but that was a long time ago. I know, Christy

(08:25):
Amagucci's I think she's like sixty now, could be okay,
Oh boy, So from where from the bottom of the
barrel of sports television, there we go. Okay, if you look,
I didn't have to say, because you know, I look
because every other year of you you know, I love you,

(08:45):
because every other every other year it was an app
comparison if you were talking about the White Sox who won. Today,
I have thirty one man hockey in Hell begins Friday,
Devils are playing, he said, from the bottom of the
barrel of sports television. Okay, he's okay. To a big

(09:09):
decision in the NFL today. This is something that there
is a big takeaway from this and it's something that
every team needs to follow, this blueprint when they deal
with any sort of quarterback competition. The Broncos made it
official today. Bonnicks is their starting quarterback right the latest

(09:31):
of the rookie class to be anointed as the starter.
Caleb Williams knew something was number one. Jaydon Daniels is
number one. Now we have the number one quarterback in Denver,
no surprise, it's bon Nicks. This is how you run
a quarterback derby. Okay, so forever so for Steelers and
everybody else is this should be taught in a class.

(09:52):
This is how you run a quarterback derby and get
to your quarterback of the future quicker than anywhere else. Right,
this was a fixed derby from the beginning. If you
bring in two guys to battle it out, what kind
of vision do you really have for your team? You
have no vision? Right, Like they didn't want to think
the Steelers. The Steelers brought into a Hey, one of
these guys will fix our quarterback. Well, the kind of
different skill sets. Russ isn't mobile, like justin field, you

(10:14):
can't call design runs off. This is not Russell. But
the Steelers said, hey, let's just throw numbers at this.
Let's go. Like the Steelers have no idea what they're
doing when they came in and said, we need people
to fix our quarterback job. But Sean Payton knows what
he's doing and what did they do coming into this year?
Who are the quarterbacks vying for number one? You had
the first round pick bon Nix that you didn't want

(10:36):
to push too hard, but you didn't want to keep
in mothballs. You want to you don't want to Drake
Mayhem And suddenly, well the guy's got no reps here
he is starting. So what did they do? They had
a quarterback room that was experienced, but nobody who was
really a threat to bon Nicks. Jared Stidham is a
backup quarterback, right, He's not Gardner Minshew coming in saying, hey,

(10:56):
if the quarterback Falter is Gardner, Minshew can step in.
Though Jared Sidham is a he is a backup quarterback.
You're only hoping has to play for a couple of weeks.
Zach Wilson, backup quarterback who comes in, is hoping to
restart his career after he flamed out with the Jets,
showing that, you know what, I'm a backup. But maybe
if I unlearn all my bad habits, which is playing quarterback,
if I unlearn those bad habits, then maybe I can

(11:18):
make something of my career. But bo Nix is this
is the starter coming in, But you want to be
able to push him forward and put him position to succeed,
while at the same time not holding your team back.
Boon Nix was able to now because we're not naming
a starter. We're looking at everybody. I'm going to learn
at my own pace during the during training camp, and

(11:38):
as training camp goes on, I'm gaining more confidence. And
as long as I don't throw up on myself and
I show that I'm ready, well guess what, I'm going
to be the starting quarterback. And if they really aren't,
if bon Nicks really isn't ready, Sean Payton knows how
long can I start Jared Sentham for before we got
to play him three weeks, So we give him three weeks.
He used to the NFL and by week four was

(12:00):
starting him, so Jaredson would only have to play for
a couple of weeks. It's up. These guys are break
glass in case of emergency quarterbacks, right Stidham and Zach Wilson.
So bringing bo Nix in having a fixed competition, this
is how you do it. When you have a quarterback
coming in that's young that you don't want to give
it to them too early. You want to make them
earn it. This is how you run it, not whatever
crazy ass thing they have going on in New England

(12:21):
where four guys are playing and guys are out playing
your rookie, give everybody the reps don't have too many
out there, which they do, and make it a fixed competition.
As long as your starter, preferred starter is able to
nurture and grow and get the REPSI needs out of
the spotlight. Hey, over the course of a month and
a half, he will ascend to that starting job because

(12:42):
it's why you drafted them that early. Right. Bo Nicks
had all the faculties you need. He had all the talent.
He's got all the arm talent you need. But you
want to be able to assimilate himself to the NFL
and be in a position to succeed, And this is
how you do it. No, well, it's going to be
him or him, and he's got to go win it.
He's got to go do this. No players are different now,
quarterbacks coming to the league. It's not I'm gonna throw
you to the walls and see what you can do.

(13:04):
It is a fixed competition. This was fixed from the
beginning and as long as bo Nicks was good and
Shody can handle it. He was going to be this daughter.
This is how you have to handle it when you
bring This is how you do it, not how the
Steelers do it, not the Page anybody else. This is
a master lesson from Sean Payton. This is how you
do it. The Steelers decided not to go down the
road of let's go draft the next guy, especially after

(13:24):
what happened with Kenny Pickett, and so they were able
to go get two veterans, and it's been more or
less the scene with the Joker in the dark night.
All right, make it quick, right room for aggressive expansion,
but we only have room for one right now, so
figure it out. So you got that New England. I'd

(13:47):
like to think I knew what they were doing. I
think Drake may plays much sooner than you anticipate, again,
because you don't exactly have a lot of world beaters
up front, but you have a guy in Jacoby Bresseatid
who's proved serviceable for short periods of time in Denver.
This goes back to the Sean Payton now being extolled

(14:07):
as super genius once again, and maybe it works, maybe
it's brilliant. I did go down the rabbit hole of drafting.
Courtland Sutton as one of my guys in a guillotine league, saying,
all right, someone's got to catch a football, so let's
go down this path. But it's also the space for
Sean Payton where there's no heat under his ass just yet. Right,

(14:32):
you're in a position where if bo Nicks is not ready,
you're still getting the benefit of the doubt of well,
he must have assumed he's not ready by Sean Payton standards.
Not Hey, he's got to play because he's a first
round guy. Sean Payton has decided he's not ready for
his offense yet, so that he's got all sorts of

(14:52):
good will from heavy hitters across these industries that he
can buy time. And no one's gonna say, what the
hell Sean Payton except me. I'll ask that question because
I asked it a year ago. But you know, you
saw how he brilliantly played the Russell Wilson situation. If
it went bad, it was gonna be all his fault.
Guess who's not there anymore, Russell Wilson. So you bring

(15:13):
in two guys that if they really show out Insteadham
and Zach Wilson. Sure, great, start him as you need to.
But to your point, neither one of them was a
guy you're saying, Hey, then they're getting the keys to
the car forever. No, you drafted bow Knicks for a reason.
There was so much pre draft chatter. We were part

(15:34):
of it. Of all right, he's the guy that fits
what Sean Payton wants to do. So ergo now week one,
it's it's time to let him go loose. You got
to You got an offense that has enough component parts
stories should be decent. Yeah, in theory, like I said,
in theory, it should be Tim Patrick coming back off injury.
He was a guy that was he was missed. Yeah,
last year quite a bit. Yeah, they talk about his

(15:56):
leadership every boy. We really miss him, really miss him
being around, being around the team and everything. This guy
was steady, reliable, sure, set it and forget it kind
of target. And now you're one of those fantasy guys
are during a bye week, it was I'm starting to Patrick,
I'm excited for fifty Damn good. He's gonna give me
ten points. I'm gonna get a minimum. I'm getting ten points.
And then if he finds the end zone, it's a

(16:16):
bonus Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with Mike
Carmon live from the Tirec dot com studios. That's how
you do it, Sean Payton masterclass on how to do
a fixed quarterback derby so your rookie quarterback wins the job.
We have more NFL on the way coming up next.
The quarterback that now officially makes me laugh the most
in the NFL? Is he funny? Oh? What he says

(16:39):
is really funny. Oh yeah, no, it's really funny. That's
next right here, Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio.

Mass walked off a wind today flying a San Diego tonight.
F You're staring down Fendley that whole time. I was.
I'm very menacing here in the Fox Sports Radio studios. Yeah.
Sometimes all you all you can get back in the

(17:54):
sidle is gonna walk off, Buddy, gonna walk off. It's
feeling great. Get a couple of those in a week.
You're feeling pretty chesty watching the Jets just work the
giants all day today in a joint practice. Oh that
was so much fun. Didn't we just talk about that
and how and that they might be You kind of

Speaker 6 (18:49):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (18:50):
We have lots of great NFL stuff over the course
of the next half hour to get to. But this
is this is the new quarterback that just makes me laugh.
I hear him talk now, it makes me laugh. I
mean really, I see him when he says things. I laugh.
Now if the two I think it is okay. He's
been making me laugh for quite some time. Between his

(19:12):
words and antics. We've had plenty of cause in the
last decade to talk about him, some really good, some
not so much. Initially I was hurt by his words
and then I suffered an injury. Yes, yes, yes, yes,
my name is Jack tors t r Uh huh yes uh.

(19:35):
When I see Russell Wilson talk now, I just laugh.

Speaker 6 (19:38):
There it is, baby God, that's like a high knees babyyo, bubbles,
not just high knees, highkneees at thirty thousand feet.

Speaker 1 (19:49):
I mean, come on, man full context. Absolutely, So today
we find out that Russell will look the quarterback derby
that just continues to go. Russell Wilson's gonna play sad
and the final preseason going against the Lions. Now you
and I know exactly why Russell Wilson is playing because
the offense looks like crap. It has looked like crap.

(20:10):
And if Russell Wilson continues to look like he's washed,
what did we tell you last night? I can see
Justin Field's winning the starting job for the beginning of
the season. Forget about when he's gonna take over by
week five like beginning of the season, because Justin Fields
is just more dynamic. He can make more things happen.
Say dynamism, Russell Wilson, it's dynamism, dynamism, dynamism, not com dynamism. Dynamism.

(20:33):
He's just a little bit better and he's younger and
he can do a little bit more. Russell Wilson is
a plotter, So we all know exactly why Russell Wilson
is playing on Saturday. Hey, this made this is gonna
be You think this is a story today? Oh, Russeills
can play, No, this is his last chance to save
his job. Like that's he's a bridge quarterback. Man, He
is a bridge quarterback. Before you get to Justin Fields

(20:55):
or what is next for the Steelers after this year,
he needs to show that I can do something with
the offense on Saturday or guess what, Justin Fields, come
on in, you take over, Russ. Sorry, we gave you everything,
but you were hurt. You can't put to push the
team forward all of this stuff. So we all know
exactly why he's playing and why is doing all that.

(21:16):
But then I listened to Russell Wilson explained why he's
playing on Saturday, and boy, it's like he lives on
a different planet just because he needs to atone for
getting hurt while pushing a blocking sled. Let's wait, let's
hear Russell, so I just will do you all know
this is why Russell Wilson's playing Saturday. Here's Russell Wilson's
more measured response to why he's playing on Saturday.

Speaker 5 (21:38):
Yeah we're playing, Yeah, we're all playing. I'm I'm excited
to get back on the field. You know. Last week
was great to be out there for the first time,
you know, putting the pads on and everything else. And
and and you know, obviously we didn't get to win
and everything else. But I think the big thing for
us is just you know, executing and and us making
our plays and doing our thing. Yeah. I think the
most important thing for us to accomplish is just play

(21:58):
efficient football. You move the ballup and down the field.
Obviously we want to celebrate in the end zone. That
would be fun. We need to get make sure that happens,
and that's the standard football we want to be able
to play.

Speaker 1 (22:08):
H Yeah, yeah, there's nothing to see here. Hey, he's
saying it was good to put the pads on, Like
it's the very beginning of the season and he's just
reporting to camp. Hey, like, you new shoulder pads? Are
they pretty good? Yeah? Put the pads on. It was
fun seeing the guys. We all went out to the movies,
like this is his last chance, this is his last
chance to seize the starting job away from Justin Fields.

(22:30):
And here he is talking like, yeah, everything is fine. Yeah, yeah,
it was good to put the pads on. We're just
gonna get out, Like by saying this, he's going to
convince everybody, Oh, it's not really a quarterback controversy. We're
just still looking to make things happen. We're looking to
iron out a few things before the season. While Mike
Tomlin's in his room and I guarantee you going too

(22:51):
Mike Tomlins's office and it's one of those rooms you
go into where the temperature is like twenty five degrees
hotter than any other room you're in in in Steelers.
Because he's just to go through the roof to fact
the offense stinks and he can't fix it for like
a decade, like that's what and he's going, we have
to do something. This is off We got JV stuff
going on, and here's Russell Wilson with, Yeah, you know,
it's great to get the pack. We want to celebrate

(23:12):
the end zone, you know, that's kind of what the
goal is. But yeah, getting out there moving the ball
up and down the field. Dude, you need to see reality.
You need to know this is your last chance. If
you interviewed him, if you put like truth Seram in
them whatever it was, every whatever machine they put in
people and house them to make them tell the truth,
and said, hey, Russ, where are you in your career?

(23:33):
He would say, Oh, I'm in the middle of my career.
I'm in the you know, I had a great first
act in Seattle, and i'm you know, beginning to write
the early part of the second chapter. Like, dude, you're
gonna be out of the NFL in less than a
year if this doesn't work. There's only been one time
in his entire career that you either saw a second

(23:56):
acting job from Russell Wilson, if you believe everything is
cho choreographs, et cetera. So he created a new character,
or that he was honest, y'all, let you decide which,
well bubbles, no, no, no, when he was on Dan
Patrick and he was talking about needing, you know what
the next snack would be, sure right, and kind of
talking his way as to all right, this isn't working
anymore other than that. Other than that, it's always been

(24:19):
a all right, you're really talking a lot and giving
me nothing. And this is another case of it. Well
we're gonna get out there, guys are gonna play, we're
gonna look good. Hopefully we're gonna get to celebrate in
the end zone. Like what is that? I mean he's
ignoring just say, hey, the reality is, dude, this is
it for you? And I get that that look sometimes

(24:40):
when you do something creative for a living. I'm always
a big proponent that everybody needs a break, right, everybody
needs a break to be able to get into bits.
Why all the NEPO kids conversation is such a big
deal because Nepo kids get breaks that other people don't get.
But from it happens from a million different angles, but
from a different angles, from a different angle of breaks.
Is you have to recognize that this is your break

(25:03):
or this is a big moment for you, and sometimes
you don't recognize it. I didn't recognize it was that,
But I didn't know this meeting was. Hey, you know
it was it was yay or nay on me. I
didn't know this meeting was. I didn't know this this
this this one show I did was here. I didn't know.
Russell Wilson's gotta understand, dude, this is it. This is

(25:23):
your last break you are going to get in the
NFL if you don't play well Saturday. This is where
all of a sudden, you might not even be with
the team. You might be trading, might cut you, you
might might trade you because if they start with justin fields,
what kind of teammate are you gonna be all right,
are you gonna be okay? Be in a backup? What's
it gonna be like? And not that he has to

(25:44):
always show that he's sweating, but I want him to
understand and want him to show that, hey, I get
what the stakes are. This is my job. I want
to keep this thing. And instead it's just yeah, we
gotta get it. Like if he goes in after this
weekend and it is terrible and Mike Toman calls him
into his office and says, hey, I'm sorry, but I'm
going with Justin, He's gonna go Wow, this is a

(26:05):
complete and total surprise. Really, I thought we were going, well,
you don't have four years of practice to get ready. Okay,
we're getting ready. We're ironing some things out, like this
is it. And I don't get that from Russell Wilson.
I never got that from Russell Wilson in Denver that
he needed to come in and do it right away.
He always thought that, oh, I got plenty of time.
I'm here now, this is the next half of my career.

(26:27):
We got all kinds of time to get it going.

Speaker 5 (26:29):
Do it.

Speaker 1 (26:29):
Two years You're out, Sorry, you're done. You gotta show
you have to show me right now. There's no waiting.
There's no I'm a superstar. We're waiting for it. It
doesn't happen that way. And just seeing him taught the
entire time he's been everything is fine. We're all good roll, dude,
this is it now. You got a lot of nervous coaches,
you got a nervous team going, what's gonna happen here?
Do we have the right guys? And Russell wid Yeah, No,

(26:50):
it's all good. I love how calm he is. But dude,
you have to understand and I've said dude a lot
in the last it is, but the dude has to
understand that you're seeing this could be the end of
your football career. This could be it for you if
you don't get the team going this weekend. Well, part
of it is that personality. And look, there's gotta be

(27:10):
a little bit of hubers right to play that position.
There's got to be a little bravado. And you're not
gonna go into a final preseason game going wow, it
really has been an awful, miserable run or offense has
been just terrible. We're not clicking it all. No, you're
not gonna do that we'll do it for him. As
to how suspect it is. Remember, Arthur Smith is the
guy that kept Bejon Robinson in a box, yes on

(27:32):
a potentially potential playoff team last year in the NFC,
and left Desmond Rider out to dry. It does oay,
I'm not saying he was good. No, no, no no,
but I just want to say this, no matter what
he does the rest of his career, right, sometimes you realize,
no matter what he does, he's always gonna be the
guy that fantasy owners go. He screwed me by not

(27:53):
sure the bleeping ball the Bejon Robinson his rookie season.
I took him. He was one to one or one two,
And here's now the problem. And like this goes into
the fantasy realm of now everybody's going back to one, one,
one two. We're to caution man. Algier's still there, and
you brought in Captain Kirk and Panix. They're gonna wing

(28:14):
the ball around a little bit, assimming, Kyle Pitts can catch,
and whatever else goes on. So b Jon Robinson's not
gonna be a guy carrying the ball thirty times a game.
Just they're not gonna make up for last year saying, hey,
he didn't use him, so we've got all sorts of
carries that we can No, that's not gonna They're gonna
still have a split backfield. So just that note of

(28:35):
caution as we go. But for Russell Wilson, this is
exactly what I would have expected him to say. It's
exactly who he's always been, and that this is maybe
a rig competition, not quite in the same fashion that
you had and we described and talked about with Sean
Payton just a few minutes ago. Is for all of
the Tomlin Pole position it may have been, we're gonna

(28:59):
go with Russ out of the gate no matter what.
And if he's terrible, he's terrible and again getting hurt
with the blocking drill that he shouldn't have been doing
as a quarterback. Here, get on the sledge show everybody
how much you can push. Its stupid and they owe him.
He's he's got He's got to realize, dude, this is it,
Like this is the end of your career because you're

(29:20):
not getting off the bench. If Justin Fields wins the job,
You're not doing it. It's not happening for you. You're when
you're thirty. You think they're going to Kyle Allen next
s No, because I mean, look, here's the thing. They're
not paying him anything. So as long as he's not
a complete ass on the sideline, you're going problem in
the locker room. Because the locker room is already gone
to Justin Fields.

Speaker 5 (29:39):
Right.

Speaker 1 (29:39):
No, but injuries. But I'm saying, I'm just saying you're not.
You're not going away from Justin be Fel. He's terrible.
Sure you can't. No, he's gonna be. But he's gonna
put points on him all your all your division is
he You're gonna run. They're gonna been asking that question.
You go, are you gonna score twenty one a game?
They're gonna run. If you do, you're gonna win games.
It's gonna be They'll be just I'm telling you Justin
Field's with this offense, with this skill set around him,

(30:00):
he will be Justin Fields. I never finished that tattoo,
not giving it back, but the opportunity is there. So uh,
that's why Russ makes me laught. I'm gonna ignore reality.
I'm gonna fiddle while my career burns. That's Russell Wilson.
See now I want that image right now, a guy
who's gonna fiddle while the Padres burned the next three
nights against the Mets in.

Speaker 7 (30:23):
The wide world of sports. Well, you know, they didn't
have a great game today. Obviously, they gave up seven
runs in a loss at home. So that's the loss
of the White Sox. Okay, Well the White Sox have
won thirty one games, so they've beaten a few teams. Yeah,
give them some credit, Jackson.

Speaker 1 (30:41):
I mean, they beat the Giants, but it sounds better
if I say they the White Sox beat the Padres.

Speaker 7 (30:45):
Sounds worse for you. Yeah it does. But let's get
back to that Padre game, because yeah.

Speaker 1 (30:50):
Why not, it's over. They stunk. Get to the next,
next game, next game, Mets walk off Jesse Winker, Buddy.

Speaker 4 (30:56):
Who buddy?

Speaker 7 (30:57):
I thought you're gonna call me dude because you've been
saying that. I wish I had a dude counter for
how many times Jason has said that word?

Speaker 1 (31:03):
Sometimes sometimes i'd default a dude. I don't know why,
I just do. Hey, what's up, dude? Hey dude? Dude?

Speaker 7 (31:09):
Like do you use that word like at home too,
like talking to family members? Hey dude, like not really
because I live with two women, so I don't say
dude that often.

Speaker 4 (31:18):
Just wondering.

Speaker 1 (31:18):
Yeah, I don't.

Speaker 4 (31:19):
Just didn't know if that, you know, crossed over.

Speaker 1 (31:21):
Now you call your wife, You call your wife. Dude,
that may not go over. Well, I'm just saying, may
not go overwhelm. Probably should have learned that one.

Speaker 7 (31:28):
Well, I am getting a lot of unslicited advice from
people that now that I am married, what to do
and what not to do.

Speaker 4 (31:32):
So I'm gonna keep that one in memory chambers for sure.

Speaker 1 (31:35):
I'm gonna offer you nothing.

Speaker 4 (31:36):
Yeah, yes, yes, hey.

Speaker 7 (31:39):
Well, the Padres could have used some luck because they
lost eleven of four against the Twins against seven runs
given up in the fourth inning as the Padres surrendered
to the Twins.

Speaker 4 (31:49):
I'm gonna use that word there.

Speaker 7 (31:50):
The Yankees got two home runs of Mayor and Judge
forty six and forty seven on the season on the
way to torturing the Guardians eight to one. Cincinnati Reds.
They went eleven to seven against the Blue Jays. That's
significant because Joey Vada, who spent seventeen seasons with the
Cincinnati Reds, announcing his retirement by way of social media
and Instagram had over three hundred home runs in his career.

(32:13):
Braves coming up short against the Phillies three to two,
also a win from Mike Harmon's White Sox. Say it
ain't so six to two against the Giants. Let's get
to that Mets score. They won four to three as
they clench. I know Jason hates when I use that
term clench to a win four to three against the Rigs.

Speaker 1 (32:34):
Does it doesn't make sense. It's not good English. You
don't speak good enough out of your rock.

Speaker 4 (32:39):
Clinch they just hold on. It means they cling to win.

Speaker 1 (32:43):
No, there's clinch, and there's clinch, and you're saying clinch.

Speaker 4 (32:47):
Yeah, like you tighten up a little bit.

Speaker 1 (32:49):
I mean you don't know you're clenched up. It means like, ah,
I've clenched. You're nervous. You don't win. Well, I mean
you gotta be calm and cool, like Russell Wilson, like
nothing's wrong, everything is fall as we always think about
clenched fists. Yeah, well, you know, well.

Speaker 7 (33:04):
There's another place where people clench. And I didn't go there,
but I think you guys might know where that is. Yeah, no,
I don't, but I'm gonna pretend I do okay, okay, okay,
four to three, Mets over the Orioles, Jesse Winker with
the pinchhit walk off home run, Red Sox over the
Astros four to one. Right now, there are four games

(33:25):
happening still in the Bigs, including the Mariners and Dodgers.
Won nothing in the Mariners favor also one one Raising
Athletics says Tampa has just tied it up in the
top of the fifth. And lastly, Jason and Mike forty
nine Ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was speaking to KNBR
radio station in the Bay Area and it was asked
two things out of the gates status on Brandon Ayuk contract.

(33:47):
Obviously he wants a new one, no updates, according to
Shanahan when asked about Brandon Ayuk his Star wide receiver,
and then was sent the question what about the contract
hold out of Trent Williams. Is there any progress there?
And Kyle Shanahan basically said, We've been talking, but negotiating
has been very hard. So I'm taking that Jason and

(34:07):
Mike as there has been no progress well.

Speaker 1 (34:10):
And here and and you want me to tell you
when that's good. Deal's gonna get signed. When Tuesday morning,
after the Monday night game, when the Jets sack brock
Purty five times and they win twenty three to thirteen,
it's gonna be we got it. Let's get Trent Williams in.
Get him in, man, I thought you were gonna say
there was no news there. Why did that comes from

(34:30):
the news day? This defense though. I thought you were
going to get chesty there. Get him in. Let's get
we gotta get Trent Williams in. Boy, I'll tell you
they were fast around the edge. Man. Wow, that's a.

Speaker 4 (34:41):
The no update update.

Speaker 1 (34:42):
That's it. Yeah, thank you very much, Brian finily appreciate.
You're very welcome, and you got him to talk about
the Jets your fault friendly.

Speaker 4 (34:48):
I can't help it.

Speaker 1 (34:50):
Look coming up next, we got more NFL on the way,
the newest trend in NFL preseason football that is both
incredibly fun and incredibly irritating at the same time. Okay,
that's next, Jason and Mike. This is Fox Sports Radio.
And close the door, close the door. Don't tell anybody

(35:12):
if something's up with.

Speaker 2 (35:12):
The bride and the groom.

Speaker 1 (35:13):
Close the door, close the door.

Speaker 2 (35:16):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven

Speaker 1 (35:28):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmon Live from the Tirack dot Com Studios.
Where the last five years in the NFL, there's been
a change. It's been a change in what the most
overreactive thing is in the NFL in the preseason. Now,

(35:50):
it used to be when a guy comes in a
game and dominates against backups, right, it was, oh, wow,
look how good this guy is? Right? Oh, you got
to you gotta let this guy start. He threw for
three hundred yards and four touchdowns. Yeah, but it was
against all the third stringers. That doesn't matter. Look out good.
And I can't tell you how many how many times

(36:11):
when Jets fans wanted Matt Simms to start because he
threw for like four hundred yards and four touchdowns against
the Giants, right in the last preseason game. Like that
used to be the thing up until about five years ago,
maybe a little bit less than that, where all if
you dominate against backups in the preset, boy, look how
great you look? How great you are the show, not
even Chris Simms. I got Matt Simms in. But now

(36:35):
that's been replaced because now we we want instant reaction.
We want more things right away. The guy dominating against backups,
which used to be the whole thing. Hey, this guy's
got to start, this guy's to do this, that's been
replaced because now all you need for people to completely
overreact to is one play from training camp. It's all

(36:56):
you need, just one play, one big highlighted All you
need is one play and everybody goes crazy. Right last
week it was it was all over social media. I
think it was Jackson Smith, Najigba supposedly look look at
this is what happens in the joint practice against when
the when the Seahawks were practicing against the Titans, and

(37:17):
it was Jamal Adams playing his first game against the Seahawks.
Look at Smith, the Jigbuok Cook, Jamal Adams, and it's like,
that's not Jamal Adams. But it doesn't matter because everybody
so he's trashed. Jamal Adams stinks, he's this, he's that.
All this. I bring this up because today the biggest
thing for the day, you know, Jets and Giants had
the big joint practice which the Jets just destroyed the Giants.

(37:39):
But it's seven on seven drills, seven on seven drills.
Three passes Daniel Jones threw to Melik Neighbors. One was incomplete,
one was at his feet, and he caught one over
the middle when Sauce Gardner was covering him, and all
of a sudden, it was Moleik Neighbors is an all
pro and Gardner is a guy that all he wants
to do is play video games and talk trash. Well

(38:00):
that means that Daniel Jones is a Wizards too. Are
the backup quarterbacks? They're all he know. It was it
was still Daniel Jones' fault. He didn't get batt of
the league Neighbors. But like, all you needed was one play,
and I looked for video for that for a long
time to find it. And then as the day went on,
it was, oh, he only caught two passes on on
Sauce Gardener out of like fifty plays whatever it was,
and and Garrett Wilson's catching everything, so that's all it matters.

(38:23):
So it started, so it started going away. But the
whole thing was one play and suddenly Elik Neighbors is
an all pro and Sauce Gardener's thing. But that's all
you need. But it's just a microcosm of our entire world. Right,
you could put out a tweet or a TikTok video
or whatever and it can be completely false, but nobody
ever gets the retraction. No, it doesn't matter, right, you

(38:45):
know that guy was acquitted of that this happened like, yeah,
you know he actually got dominated. But that one play.
Look at this, Yeah, that's raight for your fantasy squad.
This one. On a Sunday, I could talk about it
about how terrible a guy's gonna be and he could
have twelve carries for eight yards. Guess what if Carrie
thirteen goes for ninety one in a touchdown, Tada, he's

(39:08):
had himself a great day, or at least that's what
you're gonna tell yourself. Because he had the one play,
he had the one. The count just the same. But
that's the same thing here is that we're in a
highlight like it's it's on steroids. It's far beyond the
Sports Center Top ten or what we do on FS
one or Plays of the Day here on Fox Sports Radio,

(39:30):
it's amplified on a whole other level because it goes
into that echo chamber and you never see the defensive
Nobody puts up a defensive back swatting down up pass.
It's a seven on seven drill, and it's suddenly he's uncoverable. Sure,
first of all, every wide receiver is coverable in the NFL.
I know this because they don't catch every pass thrown

(39:51):
to them, so they're not uncoverable. They're a liar. No,
it's because he's because the accuracy of the quarterback uncoverable.
He's uncoverable. But you just need one play for all.
Judge quarterback. No, there's no excuses for them, And suddenly
neighbors is great. It's that's become the biggest thing. I'm
gonna now completely overreact because here's one play when they're

(40:13):
in shorts on seven on seven. That's what it is.
Jet Show, we got more NFL and the birthday maybe
the biggest birthday we've ever celebrated here on the show.
