You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:30):

(00:53):
tire buying should be well. Getting ready for the blood
game tonight. It's Octagon, It's Dodgers, White Sox, It's Frostburg Harmon,
Come on in if you will. There's gonna be blood
on the floor and hair on the walls. It's time
it go. People are gonna be missing fingers and oh,

(01:14):
by the way, happy Bobby Bennie A day.

Speaker 3 (01:17):
I don't know if we got it in was that
more than thirty seconds? I had people asking for the
over under all day it is Bobby Bennie a day,
it is Mets Christmas. You know that's kind of yeah exactly,
I was. I was day Night, doubleheaded tomorrow. Yeah, so
we'll lose at least one of those games.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
So yeah, but now today was Mets gre And again,
what do I say, All the three days of the year,
I get the most texts my birthday, Father's Day, and
Bobby Bennie a day, and not in that order. I
woke up this mort right away when I turned my
phone on, because I was, you know, I go to
I go to sleep, and I always turned my phone
off because I have so many people in my wife's
family that just really after being in LA for thirty years,

(01:58):
don't understand that if they send a text at seven
in the morning, it's four o'clock in the morning here.
So I always turn my phone off. And every time
when I turn the phone on, you know, in the morning,
I usually get a couple of text messages. You know,
you and Frostburg send stuff. But when I turn on
my phone and it's I know, okay, something has happened

(02:18):
with the Mets or the Jets most likely, or the Knicks, right,
I know, but today I knew I'm gonna come up.
Yeah yeah, okay, yep, yep, yep, yep, yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
yeah yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:32):
Bobby Benia, Well, what do we always say on the show,
We want to be loved or hated, don't be indifferent.
So either that's love or it's hate. Because in the end,
you did end up with David Wright because of all
of that.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
Yeah, no, we did. It's just so there is a
lot of positivity into it, and they were able to
make some other moves over the course of the period
by just and that money stayed in an account as
opposed to being paid out to Bobby Benia, So all
in all it worked out. Okay, yeah, Bibe, who gets
one point one nine million or actually more than that
because I saw a T shirt today them going to
buy That's just it's Mets orange and is one point

(03:09):
six for like the exact amount that Bobby Bania gets
paid every every July first for the Mets U. I saw,
I got to get that T shirt. That's an awesome
T shirt.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
Yeah, because he also gets money I think through the Orioles. Yeah,
I mean Ked Griffy still was on the payroll for
the Reds. I mean there's a bunch of guys get money.
But Benia has become the patron saying of this, uh,
this artistry.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
And I love the fact that it's so easy every
year to find on the internet. Like like it's like
when you see it, go to a news site and
they have a sports story that we all know because
we're sports fans, but you know, people reading news don't
know sports have to explain stuff why Tom Brady do it.
It's like, okay, everybody knows this, right, But I love
that every Bobby Benia day you can find pretty easy

(03:53):
one of the big sites with its Yahoo or CNN
or whatever, Fox News. Like here's why Bobby Benia gets
paid one point point one nine million, thought people, And
it's in education. It's here what happened in the you know,
but Bobby Benia played for the Mets, and then it's
why it happened, how it happened. It's happened since Like
it's all about education, Like if you want to learn

(04:13):
about it, it is that they give you an article
very every July first, Every July first, and is there
for you to learn about Bobby Benia Day, how the
deal was structured, why it was structured.

Speaker 3 (04:23):
The way it does the again, the Hampton to David Wright,
stuff's usually buried in like the fourteenth parent. Yeah, because
it's it's kind of like the pictures and Moneyball. Yeah,
that people commediately forget about. Oh what a great story.
Look at what they did.

Speaker 1 (04:36):
It's like they had three of the best pictures. Yeah,
twenty years, but that that kills the romances. Yeah, absolutely,
And Miguel Tahata was the MVP. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (04:45):
Here's my favorite, though, is the the convergence of our
our sports run on social media to the trading cards
guys that that I follow, because they all started posting
their favorite Bobby Menia cards. He's got some doozy there's
a couple of where he's got like this giant shades
on that take up like three quarters of his face.

(05:06):
Oh yeah, and he's pointing in smile and it's like, yeah,
that might be the quintessential, quintessential photo for what we're
talking about today.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
You can learn all about Bobby Benia Day. It's like,
I don't even educate, we can inform. Oh yeah, and
really and I don't know why. I guess since we
started talking about this a couple of years ago, I
always think, you know, I had this vision in my
head that Okay, when will I retire from doing what
I'm doing?

Speaker 4 (05:28):
Right?

Speaker 1 (05:28):
And always said, okay, maybe the last Bobby Benia day, right,
which is twenty thirty five, the last time he'll get paid, right?
And I'm thinking, do I do I try it? I mean, okay,
do I try to go to the last Bobbyia day?
Do I try to do it earlier? Do I want
to really do it I'm Bobby Benia day and share
that day with him? Or do I want to do
it the day after Bobby Benia like? Which, Like, I
don't know, and I would I think about that a lot,

(05:50):
like this is probably the day of the year I
think about, you know, what I want to do? How
much longer I want to do it? Yeah, I'm still
enjoying it, loving and having fun, but you making it
to the end, like that would be real. I'd be
sixty five at that point, Like I'd make it to
the end. But I'm like, you know, maybe not so
much on Maybe it's maybe sixty two is where I
should go. But I feel like, yeah, Bobby Benita day,
I just sit I spend the whole day and listening
to all old songs. You know. Ah, that's what it is.

(06:12):
Think about think about life, think about the future, think
about what you have ahead of you. And I started
thinking today, and the big thing was that I said, oh,
if I'm gonna do that, right, if I'm not Knockwood, right,
if I because you know, you make plans and God laughs, Right,
so if they say if I so, if I say, okay,
twenty you know, twenty thirty five, right for Bobby Benita, Okay,
that means I would have starting for today. That means

(06:32):
I would have less than ten years to do what
you did to finish, you know, working right to do that.
And I think, wow, okay. And sometimes it seems like
a long time. Other times it seems like it's nothing.
It's going to have been doing this for you know,
two decades now. But I just it's always that day.
Like I I don't think about it on my birthday.
I don't think about it on Christmas. I don't think
about it on January first. Like Bobby Benia day gives me,

(06:54):
gives me that lou read feel of just you know,
listening to songs and just want to just want to
think back about life and really just give you one
of those songs that they play at the end of
The Bear all the time. It really makes you want
to think about what life is doing to you and
the choice you make. Because The Bear is all about
music montages. Because the scripts of The Bear are like
fifteen pages long and it contains like six or seven

(07:15):
music montages, which songs are just sad that you don't
really know. That's the Bear. Oh, by the way, congratulations,
I'm being renewed for season five even though the show
is stunt for a year and a half, so to
say that's kind of what it's at right now. You
got no value out of this season. No, I'm four
episodes in and nothing has still happened. Man, nothing has
still happened. You gotta say there is one episode that

(07:37):
will redeem it. Okay, but the rest was the Christmas episode,
which was amazing, But the rest of it, it's they had.
The first season was sad. The second season was really good,
and then they ran out of I guess I can't
keep watching them make food and think that it's it's
an incredible new thing, like you're doing the same thing
and there's no plot, no plot, No, I can explain

(07:59):
everything that's happened in the Bear for the last year
and a half in fifteen seconds. Hey, I'm not gonna
do it because people who want to spend time watching
ten hours and tells we're gonna go wow. I never
gonna get that, Doe, Hey, we get more Richie. I'm
Richie Rules. I'm waiting for the episodehere Richie has to
cook because everybody gets sick.

Speaker 3 (08:14):
Well, eventually we're gonna have a spinoff for my family
and I hang out.

Speaker 1 (08:17):
Would Riches cook Burger's are like Michael Sarah, So you
get that. It's episode seven. Oh, I gotta get to second.
I'm gonna do the rest of this season, but that
might be that really might be it. Like I'm they're
all contractually obligated to come back, which is why season
five green. I'm just I think if they had to

(08:38):
renegotiate with all of them and pay the rates they
would get now, because look, Carbie's gonna get an Oscar
nomination from all reports based of course, we got the
thing coming out here in a couple of weeks. They're
all they're all done. They're all done, They've all seemed
like they and clearly the one who's most done is

(09:00):
for Store or the Right, because it's just I mean, really,
I could write an entire season of The Bear in
one day, well but a lot of the day. All right,
here's your set. Script is twelve pages long, and it's
just all it is is just a way for me
to get from one music montage the next, like Rocky four,
just get from one music montage to the next.

Speaker 3 (09:16):
I need more plant and I needed more Poulter. Yeah,
that's what I needed out of this season. Five minute
music montage to start to a three minute scene. So
three pages of dialogue, another five minute music montage.

Speaker 1 (09:26):
It's all I need. I don't even need dialogue, it's
just car me chops up carrots. How long is that?
Like a minute? That half? Okay? Okay, yeah, okay, like
I had to want, Like, like, I just finished watching Scallops.
I'm like, if I really I'm watching Iowa to Beer.
I'm like, is she really I'm watching this for like
two and a half minutes making a scallop? I'm really
watching this? Like this is this was like season one? Okay,

(09:48):
I'm like, come on, man, come on, what if it's
do to you, I'd rather if you just don't you
just read the Skrzyzewsky book again. If you're gonna show
me something else, I'm like, come on you, I've seen this.
Give me something new, Like Bobby Benia day. We've had
Bobby Beania day. It's still happening there, it is. What
do you think of that you show me? That's a
picture of Bobby ninety two. That's a Pinnacle page. So

(10:09):
they had like one guy from each team where you
see the reflection of them with their their hitting or
whatever in their shades. It's pretty cool. It's just instead
of that, it should just be money signs for Bobby
ben Well.

Speaker 3 (10:19):
Eventually, I think we can do an altered card with
that one. But certainly, Yeah, I understand your vexation with
the bear, but yeah, twenty thirty five would be great.
I love your romanticism of it though, just kind of
thinking about this larger world, getting your musical montage and
me I sit in traffic, I go I'm done the romanticism.
It's like on a day to day. I love you,

(10:41):
I love this. This is great. It's the greatest thing.
And then I'll have that day where I'm like, yeah, no.

Speaker 1 (10:48):
It's Benia Day. I gotta go talk about Bobby Bania.
How could you not be romantic about Bobby Benia day? Oh,
they're laughing.

Speaker 3 (10:55):
I love the business of sports, So like this is
one of those great days because everybody and the Mets
for what actually was, explains it.

Speaker 1 (11:04):
Hey, here's a guy that hasn't played for the Mets
in twenty years, and here's why the Mets will keep
paying him one point one million dollars on this date,
and it sounds embarrassing. And there's people that I meet
that meet me for the first time that go, you know,
you're a Mets. I heard about this Bobby for me that,
you know what, go blank yourself, not gonna talk to you.
I'm a really nice guy, but no, I'm done, not

(11:25):
gonna do this. And I walk away and I go
to the cheese tray. And that's much better than ever starting. Hey,
I didn't mean to say anything, just you don't even
just go over there. I'm eating cheese now, I'm in
my happy place. You go over there. You know what.
There is a large discussion about cheese in one of
the episodes, so maybe that demon Okay, all right, very good, Okay,
that that's good. Great. Is there a discussion or do
we just watch cheese curd? Is that the whole thing?

(11:47):
Is there? Four minutes of cheese curd would be d
two to a song. I trying to think a song
with the word cheese in it. I can't even think
about it. I can't even think the theme to Chuck
e cheese. I don't know, just watching cheese, watching the
whole show up in the Swiss cheese? Is that what
it is? Let's see songs with cheese and the lyrics
for one hundred Yeah, well I got out, oh exactly,

(12:11):
but uh yeah, cheese Shop by Monty Python. Yeah. Do
you have cavil beer? Uh no, no, no, no, but
the finest cheech whatever you want to ask? How about Brie?
Uh no, no, that queen evidently in nineteen ninety one
had a song called pork, roll, egg and Cheese. Okay,
all right, that was between push a little day. But

(12:32):
that's Bobby Benny a day for me and and it
never stops. It never you respond all of those or
you just say beat it. Wait, no, where's the one
I just got from uh basically my brother in law
who has like sent me the one of the uh
oh yeah, here this one he just sent me, Yeah,
the one of the it's the Seinfeld one where it's uh,
Jerry counting out money and uh, he's each other yeah,

(12:53):
and he's got the Mets head on and Bobby Benie
has got just smiling and the money's coming out like
that's like twenty minutes ago. It's an entire day of
Bobby Benie. I can't get away from it. I really can't,
you know what.

Speaker 3 (13:02):
But it's nice to feel love, though, isn't it. I
mean I feel like or loved or hated, like say no, no,
it's one or the other. It's either the blank you.

Speaker 1 (13:09):
But it's also still with the smile of hey, you know,
it's been a day and I thought of you.

Speaker 4 (13:13):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (13:13):
I mean that's not a bad way to be.

Speaker 4 (13:15):
Like.

Speaker 1 (13:15):
I like it because it is people thinking of me,
but it's thinking, oh, I could go make fun of
something with Jason. So the part of it is like, Okay,
I enjoyed Bobby to day, but I think when it's over,
it's not something that I'm gonna miss. I'm gonna feel
like I had my fill of Bobby Benia days. I'm
kind of done with that now. I'm we kind of
have to see that final novelty check show up. Kind
of done. Yeah, well yeah, I mean, you know, in

(13:37):
twenty thirty five, Sure, that's that's ten more years of
Bobby Benia days. Man, that we celebrate the year that
that deal was signed with nothing but music and TV
montages from that, and then we we sign off and
you play the figurative Steve Dall, just go demolition and
blow it up. Either that or it was like tomlekis

(14:00):
u exit ab out of Fresca, Exit swollen Dome. Jason Smith,
Mike Harmon Live from the Bobby Benia Studios here at
Fox Sports Radio. We will have the day in NBA
Free agency, some big moves, big seismic decisions by some teams.
But coming up next we got Jason locking Forest stopping

(14:20):

trade and what happened today as a result of that trade,
Ty Should, I can't believe you didn't play having time
what it's getting time to heal? Take some time today
at the where's it all right? I'll listen to the

(14:44):
cheesea on instead. Okay, wow, this makes eat and cheese
sound sexy. I brought the cheese baby. I'm rubbing that
gouda all over my body. Yeah. Here comes a little
bit of yellow American come in your way. Oh I

(15:07):
say no, I like this song? Now? Did you just
say pecorina?

Speaker 3 (15:10):
Pecerina? How about that? That's pretty deep cut right there?
This is the song they would play. This is it
right here?

Speaker 1 (15:17):
It's coming on for your funeral. Yeah, it's coming up next.
Jason and Mike Jeez Radio Cheez.

Speaker 2 (15:32):

Speaker 4 (16:01):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (16:01):
I just like they and a guy that would They
did a whole episode where they were dressed up like food.

Speaker 1 (16:06):
Oh okay, they look like like for of the Loom, like.

Speaker 3 (16:08):
Grapes, and they're running around like you know, singing for
kids and whatever.

the cheese song heavy rotation so far in the first
twenty minutes of the show. Again to the whole show.

(16:33):
U have not gotten yet taken time to heal the
Darren Waller song, which would be approprit You're not going to?

Speaker 2 (16:40):
Well why not?

Speaker 1 (16:40):
Because I need time to heal from it. My ears
need time. Toy on the heels of the all pro
traded day ago, in which the Dolphins decide to send
John new Smith and Jalen Ramsey to the Steelers in
exchange for Minka Fitzpatrick. Hey, the Dolphins don't have a
tight end. Well now they do because they have traded
a late round pick to the Giants for the rights

(17:01):
to Darren Waller, who was coming out of retirement after
a year away. And we'll play for the Dolphins this season.
Darren Waller back in the He took his time to heal,
and now he's back, And now back with us on
the hotline. Longtime NFL insider, check him out on Odyssey
one oh five seven the Fan in Baltimore, Washington Post.

(17:25):
It is Jason locking for it now, Jay, I know,
was your bet of the day Darren Waller coming out
of retirement? Was that your big bet of the day today?

Speaker 4 (17:32):
Row? It was not. Although we did do a live
stream before the trade the Steerers Tablespoon Company, and I
did say I still think they're getting John Smith, whether
it's now or certainly before the trade deadline then had happened.
About forty five minutes later it was, you know, the
full details of the trade emerged. Yeah, look, I'll play

(17:57):
Jonah Smith over Darren Waller right now. Like that's just
the reality. John Smith was a very effective player last
year in an offense that was pretty broken, you know,
Arthur Smith with two tight ends, you know, and Aaron
Rodgers with two tight ends. I think we'll know what
to do with that. I do think that trade helps
the Steelers. I'm not sure that it helps the Dolphins

(18:18):
as much. And you tight ends are a lot like
inside linebackers and running backs, you know, when you play
in those hide traffic areas, when you go, it tends
to go all at want and you don't get it back.
You know, A year away may help Waller, but Waller
wasn't very productive and you know with the Giants, and
it seemed like his body was starting to break down.
So I like that trade a lot more for the

(18:41):
Steelers from the Steelers' perspective. And people can talk about
money being moved around and this or that. I mean,
Niko wasn't happy in Pittsburgh, and Ramsey obviously wasn't going
to be back at Miami. But for Pittsburgh, it's all
about the year. Now, it's about this year, you know,
and so under the sort of the the premise of

(19:02):
everything there and sort of in the proper context, which
is they're trying to make something happen this year. I
like that trade for them.

Speaker 1 (19:12):
Yeah. For the Dolphins, though, Jay and we talked about
it last night, I don't understand. I feel like there's
a there's a there's a division in what some of
the team wants to do and what what some of
the front office wants to do because I don't understand
their philosophy. I look at this and I go, they
just want to save money, okay, and they're gonna get
younger at a defensive back position, and like, are they

(19:34):
really trying for this year? Are they tanking? I don't,
I don't get what they're doing.

Speaker 4 (19:39):
No, they're in betwixt and in between. Yeah. I mean,
you haven't the clear lane because they you know, because
I think the coach knows what's going on there, and
he knows, you know, his nipples and the ring are
in there a little bit and they're starting to get
right and they're clamping down, and so you want to
do things to appease the owner financially, but you don't

(20:00):
want to completely wave in the white flag and just
be trading you know, salaries for future draft picks that
you can't use, you know, for ten more months.

Speaker 2 (20:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (20:10):
I think they're in a weird spot and I don't
think it's going to go very well for them. And
I have played them under six and a half wins
in all markets in their win total, and I think
they are going to finish last in that division and
I don't think that's particularly great division. So no, I
don't think all the pressure and anks the air is

(20:31):
going to bring out the best of the coach or
bring out the best in that in that offense, and
the offensive line has gone into decay, you know, the
outside zone stuff, the tried and true Kyle Shanahan stuff.
You know, even that's become a little bit more of
a struggle for them. I don't really fancy them on defense.
They don't do a whole lot for me in the
trenches or otherwise.

Speaker 1 (20:52):
He was able to get your team out of the basement.
We're out of that. We're not going to finish last
yet yet Jet yet yet.

Speaker 4 (20:59):
Yeah, Jets could pit a second in that division. Honestly,
the way I've played it is Buffalo. You know, you
can do the exact order. I like Buffalo, the Jets,
the Patriots, and the Dolphins in that order.

Speaker 1 (21:14):
Who you just made Smith's stay.

Speaker 4 (21:18):
Yeah, you can get get some pretty good odds there.
I think they look the Jets to play some defense,
and Aaron Glenn's going to give them back to what
they were. They've got talent there. Not having all Aaron
Rodgers and all that ridiculousness, Like the Jets with no
expectations might surprise you a little bit. The Jets with
expectations you're probably you know, cruising for a bruising. But

(21:39):
I think it has more to do with the Dolphins
being terrible, and I think the hype train on New
England's a little bit like a little bit out of
control for me. Okay, I just think there's way too
much annointing going on there. That's a team that's become
terrible at home. That's a team that's had major locker
room and cultural issues. That's a team that's been searching

(22:00):
for an identity since Brady left. Were able the heck
of a coach. But I you know, the quarterback I
think will be good. But before after he's already you know,
a top twelve quarterback in this league, like I have,
I have major questions about them on defense. So I

(22:21):
think the Jets with no expectations and running a ball
control offense with fields who I'm still a little bit
of a sucker for. I think they could mess around
and like I don't know, eight wins might be second
in that division. Like that wouldn't shock me at all.

Speaker 3 (22:35):
I'll yeah, I got him fine jacked up about it?
All right, Let's go to your division, the ANFC North.
Let's go back to the Steelers for a second. T
J Watt is he going to sign a deal or
are we going to see him in another universe?

Speaker 4 (22:50):
Yeah? That fuck. You see what mode they're in there,
and that's the voters. So no, they're not trading him.
He's not going anywhere. Little shaper rattling going on at
being used and that's how it goes in high stakes negotiations.
But you know, Watt knows the deal, and he knows
they don't two contracts in season, and they do tend

(23:13):
to get a lot of deals done in training camp.
That's always sort of been their way. You go up
there in the mountains and Latrobe and you know, there's
you're sitting in dorms, you're with and your family. You
got nothing to do but watch football practice, you know,
and talk to agents and try to get things done.
And they've had a lot of success doing it for
really decades there that way. And I'd be stunned if

(23:36):
this isn't done, if it's not done by the time
they get to Latrobe. But I think it's done the
first week in training game.

Speaker 1 (23:42):
All right. Lastly, say, let me ask you this, speaking
to your gambling acumen. Here, we saw the big early
odds for NFL MVP come out today and you know,
so the guys up at the top. You'd expect josh
Ala Lamar Jackson. If I said to you, where's your
value for an MVP pick at this point in the
NFL this year? You can get me just field if
you want, But where's your value and MVP pick at

(24:03):
this point?

Speaker 4 (24:03):
Well, I've sprinkled on Jordan Loves and I'm on the
Packers in a lot of different ways that whole Packers
over there team total. I'm on Packers over Packers to
win the division. I'm on a Packers Raven super Bowl,
and so yeah, man stands to reason if I'm not
bullish on that team that that quarterback who played so
well the final through ten games or so of the

(24:28):
twenty twenty preseason, I don't think he was ever healthy
in twenty twenty four, but like they've added more pieces there.
I just don't think he was ever healthy last year.
I don't think he was right going into that game
in Brazil, and he certainly wasn't right coming out of it.
But that's a head coach who's had success with offenses

(24:49):
there with multiple quarterbacks at the Helm. You know, Jacob's
second year there, he's even more settled in. I like
the old line. They added more skill pieces. I need
to defense in year two with that, decoordinator will be uh,
we'll step up. We'll give them more short fields and
the healthier Love got last year, the turnovers, you know,

(25:11):
got cut down. I still think he can run a
little more than he does, and I don't think he's
going to throw the ball to the other team nearly
as much as he did the first half of last year,
So you can get some real value on him. And
again you go back to the second half of twenty
twenty three, he and Matt Stafford were playing at an
MVP type level, and I think, you know, I think

(25:32):
Love is in his prime and he can get back there.

Speaker 1 (25:35):
Honestly. Washington Post one oh five seven, the Fan in
Baltimore and check out Want to Bet every day on
YouTube you get all stuff like this and more from
Jason Lock and for Jay as always, Buddy, appreciate it.

Speaker 4 (25:46):
Man.

Speaker 1 (25:47):
We'll talk to you next week.

Speaker 4 (25:47):
Have fun. Hey, have a great week.

Speaker 1 (25:49):
Gush, thank you, have a good holiday, buddy seam. All right,
there goes Jason Locking for uh, yeah, I'm looking for
the MVP odds Jets played not on there. Nobody from
the jets on there nobody knows well, but that.

Speaker 3 (26:01):
Means that you can just bet the field, and now
you've got the cast of characters to rise from the depths.

Speaker 1 (26:07):
Now, I mean, look, you see the odds and I
can bet on and it's like having fifteen fantasy teams.
Now you got everybody. Jordan Love let's say went two, three, four, five, six, seven,
the eighth favorite. Now he's plus twenty five hundred, so
there's money to be made there. But he's just ahead
of Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray, Caleb Williams comes ahead of
Dak Prescott, which is like, oh my goodness. Then you

(26:28):
have Jared Goff, brock Perty and then bow Nicks. These
are these are these guys in the top fifteen, all
quarterbacks obviously because they're gonna, you know, likely get the uh,
you know, get the vote. But that's how your list
is breaking down right now for the NFL MVP Award odds.

Speaker 3 (26:44):
What's curious is how many folks by time we get
to week one, we'll be on the hype train for
the Arizona Cardinals. And Kyler Murray, who's had fast starts
in the past. Now you've bolstered the defense full off
season with Marvin Harrison junior that made some upgrades to
that offense as well, so maybe you get a little

(27:05):
on board there. Jared Goff's interesting because the expectations are.

Speaker 1 (27:10):
So goodness, my goodness, he's low. I mean, he's plus
three thousand. But that's just it is.

Speaker 3 (27:15):
People have backed off, say, well, the coordinators are both gone,
so suddenly this team's going to take a huge step back.
That's one I'd be looking at the over unders on
the wind total to see what kind of value you
can find there since everybody's on the Caleb Williams, sure,
Ben Johnson high train, the Packers and then certainly the
unknown of JJ McCarthy and the Vikings because you see

(27:37):
how good a roster they have. So I think the
Lions are in Detroit in general, just getting discounted all
over the sporting landscape.

Speaker 1 (27:47):
The most interesting one to me, and it's not about
a long shot. This is just wow. When I saw
how high he was, ahead of C. J. Stroud, right
ahead of Prescott, ahead of Jared Goff, head with the
seventh high to odds to win the MVP is justin Herbert, Yeah,
seventh highest odds. So this to how much everybody is

(28:07):
buying on the charge. Look, I'm buying on the charges
second year now that you know Hardball's put in his
system and this is what I want to do. And
now instead of just having placeholders, he's actually got dudes
coming in. But I'd be still to jump up and
be the seventh favorite right now, just behind Jalen Hurts
to win NFL MVP. This tells you Vegas they love
the Chargers this year. Man, look at the Chargers. But

(28:28):
the thing that's burg how excited are you Chargers, Well,
not anymore than you are.

Speaker 3 (28:33):
Come on, we're counting down and you got a monthy.
You're gonna need a lot of suntan oil and briefs.

Speaker 1 (28:39):
And what a trade The Chargers trade Justin Herbert to
the Jets in exchange for Justin Field.

Speaker 3 (28:46):
No, but the thing with Herbert is curious that he's
that high is that based on what we've seen, that
doesn't mean things aren't subject to change. That you're not
having him wing it around fifty times a game, right,
Normally would the MVP go wins and some gaudy stats
that you're going to back up. So that's the curiosity
for Herbert being the seventh highest or seventh best odds

(29:09):
for an MVP. Are you thinking he's achieving those heights
given the style of game that the Chargers like to play?

Speaker 1 (29:19):
Exit? How about a Fresco exit Swelling Dome. Jason Smith
Mike Harmon live from the Fox Sports Radio studios. Time
now to find out what's trending in the wide world
of sports. But guy who's been called the Jim Harball
Fox Sports Radio Wow because he wears ten khaki little
Lemon pants every day, it's Steve de Seger and it's
my goal in life to get Justin Herbert to the

(29:40):
Hall of Fame.

Speaker 5 (29:42):
The Dodgers scored four in the first there and I
have four nothing on the White Sox in the second inning.
Yoshiobu Yamamoto is LA starter today. Shortstop Mookie Bets did
not start. He hit two forty. In June, Dodger reliever
Michael Kopek exit the White Sox goes on the injured
list with knee inflammation. The Giants picked up the option
on manager Bob Melvin's contract for next year. Giants have

(30:03):
lost three in a row, but they're leading two to
one at Arizona.

Speaker 1 (30:06):
Bottom of the fourth.

Speaker 5 (30:07):
Kansas City's lost eight of nine, but winning at Seattle
three to one in the bottom of the third.

Speaker 1 (30:12):
To the seventh inning.

Speaker 5 (30:13):
Houston up sixty four at the Rockies. Colorado starter two
and eight Chase Dollander had an ERA over six to
start and he was down six to one in the
third inning. Jacob de Gram went six innings in Texas.
The Rangers now lead bottom of the eighth seven to
two over the Orioles. The Cubs sent Cleveland to a
fifth straight loss, five to two. The angel scored four

(30:35):
in the eighth and won four to nothing at Atlanta.
The A's in ten innings won at Tampa Bay four
to three. The Cincinnati at Boston game was suspended by
rain after three innings with Boston up two to one.
It'll continue Wednesday afternoon. We had three rainouts. Never got
started for Detroit at Washington, or San Diego at Philadelphia,
or Milwaukee at the Mets, all of those matchups who

(30:58):
will have doubleheaders on Wednesday. Pittsburgh won its fifth straight game,
beating Saint Louis won nothing on an eighth inning sackfly.
Miami won it's eight straight game two nothing over Minnesota.
The loss to Joe Ryan who was eight and three
and at Toronto it was Canada Day and they celebrated
beating the Yankees twelve to five, George Springer two homers,

(31:19):
seven RBIs, including a Grand Slam.

Speaker 1 (31:21):
Coco Golf Blue Jays weren't missing half their guys right
and playing a tea. They were okay everybody today, okay everything.
Everybody was healthy.

Speaker 5 (31:30):
I heard at the start of the homestand that everybody
is nobody opted, no one, the Yankees, everybody's healthy of Canada, Absourtely.
Coco Golf lost their first round match of Wimbledon, as
did number three seed Jess Kipagoula. Men's number three Alexander
Zavere have also lost. As NBA free agent negotiations started Monday,

(31:51):
NBA MVP Shay Gilchis Alexander has reportedly agreed to a
four year super Max extension worth two hundred and eighty
five million dollars. The Milwaukee Bucks are waving Damian Lillard,
who's injured, to sign free agent center Miles Turner from
the Pacers, and we talked about this off the air
before the show. And injury to Red Panda, a very

(32:11):
popular halftime performer at basketball games. She was hurt due
to be the halftime act tonight in Minneapolis at the
WNBA Commissioner's Cup Final.

Speaker 1 (32:21):
Instead, there was no act.

Speaker 5 (32:23):
Because before she actually got started on the unicycle eight
feet off the ground, she fell and went straight to
the hard floor. Appeared to hurt her wrist and was
shaken up and tried to get up and walk off
and didn't make it off and medical personnel attended to
her again. They brought out a wheelchair for her to exit.
She has an amazing act with balancing the bulls on

(32:45):
her head and on her feet and tossing him up
the air and catching him without her hands. But Red
Panda injured tonight. As for the actual game, Indiana did
not have the injured Caitlin Clark, but still won the
final at Minnesota seventy four fifty nine.

Speaker 1 (32:58):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve All The Jason Smith's
Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. Coming up next,

play of the day plays into one of the biggest
stories of the day in sports. That's next, Jason to

Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with My best friend
Mike Harmon. You miss a day, that's what you get.
That's what comes back and haunts you. Time out for
the Play of the Day. Brought to you by tire Rack.
For over forty years, Tirack's been helping customers find the

(33:53):
right tires for how, what and where they drive. Shipped
fast and free backed by Free Road, has protection with
convenience elation options like mobile tire installation, tyreq dot com
is the way tire buying should be. Well. When you're
missing your best player and you still find a way
to be one of the best teams in the league,
and you win something called the Commissioner's Cup, you get

(34:15):
to be the play of the day.

Speaker 2 (34:21):
And that's the Indiana fans making some noise here at
Target Center.

Speaker 1 (34:26):
There are a lot of Fever fans in this building.

Speaker 2 (34:33):
And Indiana has done it their first ever Commissioners Cup Championship.
Nothing off the Minnesota.

Speaker 1 (34:42):
Links WNBA on the call, yes, without Caitlin Clark, the
Indiana Fever beat the Links, like to win the Commissioner's Cup.
We held them to thirty five percent shooting. They get
this Laurel and Hardy handshake. But without Kaitlyn Clark, they
do it a big night. Look, Sophie Cunningham has thirteen

(35:03):
off the bench, which we'll have more on Sophie. Yea, yeah,
coming up in the show. But look, here's the thing, right,
So the Fever win tonight and they beat the Links,
and it's a big headline. But what have we seen
the last day or so the discrepancy between the fact
that Caitlin Clark, who is an All Star captain, right
number one vote get her and for the WNBA All
Star Game, we get that note late last night that

(35:25):
according to the way the All Stars are selected, you know,
the fan vote is a percentage, the coaches vote is
a percentage, and the player vote is a percentage. And
it comes out that, hey, the player vote, she finished
ninth among guards. And there's a little bit of a
discrepancy between the fact that it's not that they voted
her ninth, she just finished ninth because she wasn't in

(35:46):
the top four of voting for the All Stars because
she's been hurt this year and other players are playing well,
But it doesn't because here's your headline of Caitlyn Clark
finishes night and how does this happen? How does this happen?
And again, this is what I've said over a year ago,
and again people are coming around to this now because
I actually heard it today on the radio. The WNBA

(36:06):
is succeeding despite itself. And I don't know how much
longer you can succeed despite yourself for because they have
proven that they can't handle success. All they've had is
success handed to them. Since Caitlin Clark was lucky enough
to have her exhaust her eligibility and she's ready to
come to the NWNBA because she's the most popular women's

(36:28):
basketball player in the history of the sport. She has
jumped the league and jumped into the league. And now
they have all kinds of great travel and now they
have three expansion teams coming because of Caitlin Clark. Again,
we'll get to Selphie Cunningham coming because of Kitlan Clark.
And still every other day there's a story about the
backlash against Caitlin Clark, right, And now you can debate

(36:50):
how much she was voted on that. Was it really
that everybody hates her she's voted ninth or was she
just not in the top four and she had the
ninth most points. Like there's a there's a little bit
of inside baseball with this, but the bottom line is
still here's another day where it's a great, incredibly positive
headline for the WNBA. Here's a day where they all
these all these expansion teams coming and she's the biggest

(37:11):
vote getter. I think she got more votes this year
than like you go like four years ago, she that's
more votes than anybody got when you had total for
everybody in the All Star Game for the WNBA. Like
she's done that. And yet here's another day where it's
everybody hates Caitlin Clark. They just cannot handle success, and
you have to get it. You gotta get'll handle on
it at some point because it's not gonna be there forever,

(37:32):
but handling sixth that's all it is. And they're succeeding
despite the fact they don't know how to do this.

Speaker 3 (37:38):
Well, what's great about it, right is nearly one point
three million votes for Caitlin Clark third amongst the media
because that's the other portion, and then ninth amongst players.
So this begets the question with a fifteen point burial
of the links tonight, does the ninth place ranking among players?

Speaker 1 (37:58):
Is it justified? I've been seven not?

Speaker 3 (38:03):
Yeah, And how about a presco at swalling down at
Fox Sports Radio bring it in as you will. No,
they're just they're they're just really got a pretty good
squad right now. But all of it to say, yeah,
so they have a liking problem with her, They don't.
I mean, and I we told you and that's gonna

(38:23):
that only has so much of an effect though, right,
as long as they don't hurt her and she's able
to play games.

Speaker 1 (38:29):
I mean, what's the what's the homer the homer Simpson
to succeed despite oneself? That's right, they're succeeding despite themselves.
And I told you last week this is not going
to change. There's not gonna be a magic pill that's
gonna have somebody say, fine, we'll all love Caitlin Clark,
will all seem like we're in on on Caitlyn Clark
being great and being big flay the stuff that everybody

(38:52):
is now enjoying and and unprecedent levels of popularity. It
doesn't matter. There's still gonna be. This is gonna ten
years from now, It's still gonna be. Don't like the
fact that Caitlin Clark is getting all over yah. But
my question to this, though, is when more vote to do?

Speaker 3 (39:05):
It comes back to the did you include those last
couple of games after you broke her by declare declaring
it in a final in terms of her great.

Speaker 1 (39:14):
That's look, I'll take it. It's my fault. It's my
fault that she's had a bad last four game. I'm
not on the hook for the injury, but the bad
last four games three point range, I'll take that. That's
my fault.

Speaker 3 (39:24):
It was all that's my fault because you decided that
he's heating up. She's on five completely me.

Speaker 1 (39:31):
That's all me. Fall NBA Jam, I'm the best defender
of the WNBA has ever had his eyes shut down. Katelyn.
I sit here and I look at you, and you
look like sad Bill Macy from the Cooler. But I mean,
at some point they're gonna realize this is how we
handle success. But it doesn't matter. They're gonna have a
league where the most popular player and their best player
is going to be hated by a large portion of

(39:55):
players coaches. I mean, it's only.

Speaker 3 (39:57):
Normally get that when they pull and we find out
about Jordan or Lebron.

Speaker 2 (40:01):
Aren't they generally hated?

Speaker 1 (40:03):
Hex it out about a Fresca ect the swollen dome.
Coming up next, we'll tell you what's probably gonna happen
with the player everybody wants to know about this free
agent season in the NBA. Fox
