dot com. He is the way tire buying should be. Yeah,
this is one of those. There's like two or three
days over the course of the argo. You know what,
I need a break from the Mets and tonight's loss
to the Guardia Tonight say, you know what, I need
a break. I needestivating though I need break. That number
has risen substantially the last couple of years.
Speaker 2 (01:09):
I need a break.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
I think your expectations. I think it goes in line
with your age, because like you see the shell shedding
of your mortal coil some fifty years in the distance
and that shrinking a little bit, which means the expectations
my team needs to win now. So when you see
baby going to field the ground ball and envisioning not
the first basement club and where he's gonna throw it,
(01:30):
but how he'll look at a Yankees uniform.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
Making that terrible throw, because he would fit right in.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
I saw you die a little bit inside, a little
little Jason Smith took one for the team, right.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
This was it was hard, This was very This was difficult.
This was difficult and fifty difficult, especially.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
While bab Schwarber keeps rounding the base like a superhuman,
like he's one of the fantastic for well, you know,
like he's doing all that stuff, then you're gonna failing
to keep pace. And so when you see a team
score two runs without a hit, including an air mail
throw to second base, the second base is looking at him,
(02:10):
going really really.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
Come back from down five nothing, tie the game, bases
loaded in the bottom of the eighth, you only get
with no out, you get one run, bases loaded, one out,
and the ninth thing you get zero runs. Like I
mean like I need a like, okay, I need a
break from you put the ball in play, strikes out.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
I need a break. I'll never come on. Man.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
The one of the worst day that my wife and
I ever had. Okay, the worst day we had. I'm
going back like this is like twenty five years. The
worst day we had was when uh and I was
working at Fox is when I was approduced. This goes
back like before, like this is like nineteen ninety eight,
nineteen ninety seven, and we each took you know, with
(02:50):
the dude, the cars we had. We'd been together for
about four or five years at that point, and the
and we each took each other's car to work like
it didn't matter, Like we're taking the car like a difference, right, So.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
I forgot about this.
Speaker 1 (03:04):
We were coming off a rain storm here in La,
you know, back when it used to rain in La.
And I went to work in the morning, and I
took whatever car we had. I forget and I get
to work, and I get in and I start going
and I see I have a voicemail at work. I
get a voicemail and it's my wife, and she goes,
so you take the other car when I go to
(03:25):
take to take the guj Geo storm. When I go
to take the storm, only to realize that you left
the window open, the sun roof all weekend with the rain.
I am soaked when I get to you know what,
let's just not talk to each other for the next
few hours.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
Let's let's have a little bit of a break.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
And it is and I'm listening on the phone.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
I'm going, oh no, And I realized that. Okay, she
knows I didn't do it on purpose. She knows I
didn't do it with any sort of malicious intent or
it was just I happened to take the other car
because I just did. I don't know why I just did.
And I forgot that oh yeah, I left the sun
roof up and oh yeah rain. And so she she
had to drive to work sitting on that soak and
(04:06):
wet seat. Well, it's a bad boy, oh boy, she says,
Let's take it. Let let's let's take a break. Let's
not talk for the next few I'm like, okay, because
we would always talk like two three times a day
when we're not worth all this. I'm like, do I
call her or do I do I respect the fact
that she really doesn't want to talk to me. I'm like,
you know what, I'm I'm gonna respect that, and I'm
(04:26):
gonna figure out some great place for us to go
to dinner tonight. I'm gonna figure out something great. I
have like six or seven hours to figure something out great.
And the good thing was after she had the day,
she said, hey, I'm sorry, it's a little too harsh.
I'm sorry. I didn't I know you didn't do it.
I said no, no, I look, I'm sorry because I
forgot that I did that. I would have never done that,
and everything to out to be okay. And then ever
(04:49):
since then I realized, okay, you know, sometimes taking a
taking a break, like a little bit, you know, a
day or whatever, sometimes it turns out well. You can
reset and understand that all right, something happened. He can
go forward. And that's always felt like, you know what,
there's two three days here. I need a break. I
need a break from the I need a break. I'm sorry,
it's not me, it's you, but I need a break, man,
I need a break from this. Craptasticness that's been going
(05:10):
on the last couple of months.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
Gotta make you feel better by talking about Jets practice,
we get.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
No, this is this is what gets me better is
that you know, last week, right to get to the
big developing story in the NFL. Right, you get to
the big developing story in the end, we'll talk about
justin fields. Uh, you get to the big developing story
in the NFL last week, you know, we had the
big hot take that and I firmly believe this that
the Browns are gonna start all four quarterbacks at some
(05:37):
point there.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
Well, I got, of.
Speaker 1 (05:42):
Course, that's what I'm doing.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
I'm setting this whole thing up so I can do
the Fantastic four. But no, no, I gotta jump in
and say the tyl Atley gut time. I had the
whole thing set up for us to do fantastic four. Fanuel,
he is Franklin. You know, I gotta jump in, and
I gotta ruin the joke.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
Do you want to go to my open mic night
and start shouting out all the jokes When I said, hey,
I something about Mike Harmon. Two words about Mike Harmon.
He is cheap and ugly, like what he is? What
do you want me to do?
Speaker 2 (06:09):
Wrong?
Speaker 4 (06:09):
And I.
Speaker 3 (06:12):
And the whole thing set up no matter, sun Room Fan,
and like the storm I came in doesn't matter.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
You wrote the great things set up? Now now you
ruined it. You ru it sing this song? You ruined it. No,
now it's over because now's about the Fantastic thought. Yeah,
I don't have it. I mean, is there a Fantastic
five song yet you ruined it?
Speaker 4 (06:28):
No?
Speaker 2 (06:28):
You right that show.
Speaker 1 (06:31):
I don't think Fantastic was gonna do the sequel yet
it's not gonna do. I don't think Fantastic four is
getting a sequel. What did it fall off like nine
million percent from WEEKNDO ninety Yeah, I don't think that's happening.
Speaker 3 (06:44):
I mean word of mouth. I mean Galactus was there.
He looked cool on the big screen. So on in Imax,
Hey you look big h he sucked.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
So yeah.
Speaker 1 (06:53):
So we talked about this last week, that the well
that the Fantastic four, every single quarterback of the Browns
was gonna start at least one game this year. But
you kind of know that now because Mike Carbon has
had to jump everybody and say.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
But they signed Tyler Hutley.
Speaker 1 (07:10):
Yes, so now they signed Franklin and now they have
Tyler Hutley because everybody is hurt. Shadora Sanders was hurt
and now he's back at practice, Dylan Gabriel is dinged up,
Kenny Pickett still hasn't practice. And so now we could
potentially get five starting quarterbacks from the Browns this year.
If we go into the season where a couple of
guys are hurt and it takes them a while to come.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
Back, five guys, you can get fun. We can go
from fantastic four to five guys. That's where we're going.
Speaker 3 (07:35):
Overpriced fast casual meal. By the way, I think you
spoiled a bunch of stuff by by bringing Franklin, because
I don't think a lot of.
Speaker 2 (07:43):
People know who to help Franklin. I know, I think
you think is the dude from Peanuts. Peanut. No, you
saw the.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
Movie and and and you're not gonna wait, I'm gonna
go see it in week three. At this point, with
the way it dropped off, you either saw it week
one and and if you really wanted to see it,
you saw it weak. You're not saying, well week three,
I'm gonna go back now you saw it if you
wanted to see it.
Speaker 3 (08:03):
I debated seeing it again, and then I went and
saw the Naked Gun instead. Much much better experience. Good crowd,
h highly entertaining. But but yeah, I mean, you've got
Shador Sanders was listed with the the injury right to
his shoulder fatigue and all. Kurt Banker, former NFL quarterback,
he's got his coach book that you can buy and
all it. Uh, you know, here's through the eyes of
(08:24):
a quarterback. He goes, that's usually right right about the
the injury you you announced right before you're gonna trade
a guy.
Speaker 1 (08:30):
Yeah, and then they signed it, you know, I mean really,
I mean, look, Tyler Huntley, who was you know, potentially
at one point was the best backup quarterback in the NFL.
And yeah, no, he wasn't gonna, you know, obviously take
the job in Baltimore. But oh, Tyler Huntley's so get
he's such a great value to have, he's gonna go
someplace else and great, No, no, no, Now you're the
fifth guy that you have now at practice for the Browns, right,
(08:54):
and clearly part of it is circumstanced because they have
joint practice coming up tomorrow. And the next with the Panthers,
and then their first game is this weekend. So okay,
you need a third quarterback because you got guys danged up.
But for the whole summer it's been not enough, not
enough reps. Now everybody's got the reps. Now you got
the reps, right, flack O can get the reps. Shador
Sanders can get threight. You guys got got the guys
(09:14):
the reps. Now, guy, everybody could have the reps. But
now Gabriel and and pick it. And what I mean, really,
we're talking so much about Sanders and this Browns quarterback.
I mean, we're talking so much about these guys when
I know in a year for or in eight months
from now, it's Arch Manning.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
So I don't know.
Speaker 1 (09:31):
This has become like the big the only storyline of
the summer outside of Aaron Rodgers loves Mike Tomlin. Mike
Tomlin loves that, Yes, the Big bro Mans. Everything is
gonna be great until Aaron Rodgers actually throws the football
for real. But like this story, with all this it's
such an amazing uh attention suck when in the end
it's really gonna be okay as long as he's okay
with being a Brown. It's arch manning in eight months
(09:53):
like that. That's how it's gonna go.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
If if he wants to come out of school. But remember,
I mean Haslam has done everything. He said, Hey, Andrew Barry,
this is all guy Shdor Sanders is here because of
him taking no responsibility, and even with the Deshaun Watson stuff,
that was still a Barrier's like, no, no.
Speaker 2 (10:09):
No, it was all of us. I'm not wearing all
of that contract. It's not all on me.
Speaker 3 (10:14):
So a little bit of that in fighting, slap fighting,
and let's face it, it'll be a new front office
when this goes bad, as it inevitably will. But they
did get Miles Garrett signed after he said he wanted
to trade and he wanted to take his ball and
go home, so at least they can say they did
that properly. But at this point, you know, you didn't
need to see a lot of reps from Flaccos, so
(10:35):
he just kind of floating off in no man's land.
Picket to your two rookies. Yeah, you were hoping that
they'd they'd battle and that you'd see some separation and
actually go through with meaningful reps and as it stands now,
it's like you're just hoping to have a warm body
under center. That's where we're at in this process. I
(10:56):
mean this, which is a very disappointing thing. Not that
the Browns had any expects for anything, right, it's four
and a half five wins.
Speaker 2 (11:02):
It's just more of a blank show.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
And I mean really, it's just there's no bigger blank
show in the NFL than the Cleveland Browns, no bigger.
But the quarterback you're paying all the money to is
never gonna play for you again. You decide to go
out and bring in make your number one guy. You're
going after the most bridge of bridge guys. Okay, I
get if you're tanking for next season, you're tanking for
the year after because you want a quarterback. You did, okay,
(11:26):
but then you overdraft a guy in the third round
in Dylan Gabriel and then you go get Shador Sanders,
who you spent four rounds passing on. Oh, but now
he's an assets. He's a quarterback. Either. You could do
that with a defensive back. You can do it with
a defensive end. You can do it with a wide receiver.
But you don't go, oh, now he's a value guy
at quarterback. Now if he's great, we don't pay him
(11:47):
for the next five years. Like what world does that
make sense? Also, what world does it make sense? Take
a quarterback in the third round and they say okay,
like and then take a guy in the fifth round
that was projected to go higher than the guy in
the third round. Like, I'm trying to figure this out
out like everything with the Browns, and the more you
think about it, the more do they really have any
It's like guys won contests and got to run the Browns.
Speaker 4 (12:08):
Well.
Speaker 3 (12:08):
Some of it plays straight out of draft day. Hey
what are you hearing?
Speaker 2 (12:11):
What do you know? Hey? What do you know? Sonny?
Speaker 3 (12:13):
Why's he falling? Why's he falling? I don't know, but
you're on the clock. Can make us both look pretty good.
Run all sorts of lines out of that. But you know,
when you get back to the fifth round, he's still
sitting there. You think you could be the smartest guy
in the room, particularly if you think your job's potentially
in peril. It's like, hey, if this breaks right now,
I look like a genius. And even if Haslam and
(12:36):
I don't get along anymore, maybe I get a second
bite at the apple somewhere else. But where you sit
now is all reports were just disastrous from anything that
wasn't the glorified hey, let's just throw it up and
let guys make plays kind of scenario. Anything that was
a synchronized, choreographed and orchestrated offensive set went to hell.
(12:58):
And so now you sit at the precipice of another disaster.
I want to know who in that Remember when they
unveiled that that giant helmet, Remember that guy fell in
and everybody pointed at out, Oh was the guy pointing
out the fact that it was brought to you by
dude Wipes, brought to this special shade of brown helmet
that we've ever done before, has brought to you by
dude Wipes. It was almost like, I look, my internship
(13:21):
is ending, my contract ending.
Speaker 2 (13:24):
Here's what I'm gonna propose.
Speaker 3 (13:25):
And then it worked, and so this guy got over
because that's exactly how you described how this season is
gonna go a blank show?
Speaker 1 (13:33):
Is I mean, really, it is such I don't understand.
It's it's such a blank show here. That's like, now
they're bringing we have to have another quarter.
Speaker 2 (13:41):
But two years ago, fantastic plus one.
Speaker 3 (13:45):
I remember just two years ago was well the Browns,
except for the giant question market quarterback, they have one
of the constructed, one of the best rosters in football.
Speaker 1 (13:54):
Oh sure, yeah, Life comes at you fast. I'll tell
you things change, Things change really quickly.

May had another quarterback before we finish our next conversation
would be great. Joining us now on the hotline. Longtime
NFL insider Odyssey Washington Post one oh five seven, the
(16:27):
Fan in Baltimore. He's on Twitter at Jason Locking for
it is Jason Locking.
Speaker 2 (16:32):
For what's happening?
Speaker 4 (16:33):
Man?
Speaker 2 (16:33):
How are you?
Speaker 4 (16:33):
Bud Wise Man's once said, if you have a half
a dozen quarterbacks, you have none. I think the Browns
are off the six count.
Speaker 2 (16:43):
That's true, the Cleveland six pack.
Speaker 4 (16:46):
How about that? That is? Look and here's a.
Speaker 1 (16:51):
No, it is it is I I'm sitting here going Okay,
last week I said they're going to start all for
at one point this season, they will start all for Now, like, boy,
can you really get five in? Can they go fantastic five?
Can we get Tyler Huntley to start a game at
some point so all five of these guys can.
Speaker 2 (17:06):
Start a game.
Speaker 4 (17:08):
That's what dreams are made of. Brother, let's go, let's
find that. Let's find a market for that and put
ten dollars on it.
Speaker 1 (17:16):
Well, wait a minute, you're the gambling guy. You do
tons of stuff. You can't give me some odds on
that right now? What do you got for me?
Speaker 4 (17:22):
I mean I wouldn't bet against. It's a long season.
Go look at their schedule. I think they might start
on seven. I mean the offensive line isn't what it
used to be. So flat, they're in trouble.
Speaker 1 (17:37):
Uh you know looking at this now, okay, seeing the
injuries going for before you get on, I know you
had a big article on Joe Burrow. If I said
to you right now, the quarterback Week one for the
Browns is going to be who who are you going
to tell me?
Speaker 4 (17:50):
So flat? Though? I mean they have to keep them
in bubble wrap like there's I mean, they've got to
treat them like e'sli Mark Jackson's like they just I mean,
he's been there before. You understands the terminology, like he's
plug and play. He's seen everything, done everything, you know.
I mean, he doesn't need a lot of reps. I mean,
(18:11):
I don't think it's ever really been in question. Now,
how long can he keep him up right? What does
that look like? Is he able to push the ball
downfield and even try to do the stuff that they
did when he was there a couple of years ago.
I don't know they answered all that, but it's just
football team, as best I can tell, at least, you know,
as long as he's.
Speaker 2 (18:31):
Upright, Jason.
Speaker 3 (18:33):
As we look at the division as a whole, the
Ravens are the only ones without a bunch of negative
headlines because you've got the article Washington bo Cincinnati. We
keep seeing all the graphics with Hendrickson and a bunch
of question marks. He's back from Florida, So I guess
that's a good start.
Speaker 4 (18:48):
Yes, I don't know, man, I don't know. I just
have a hard time seeing where they're better on that
side of the ball. Their number, their first round draft
pick the field late. He didn't participate in anything in
the spring, nor should he have given the contract situation.
Hendrickson is clearly a malcontent. I don't see where they've
(19:12):
upgraded around those guys. People I talk to in the
league still see issues at all three levels of the defense.
I don't think they upgraded the offensive coordinator. I mean,
people are talking about Al Golden like he's I mean,
I don't know. And there's something in terms of his
NFL accomplishments. I mean lou Ana Roumo one of the
(19:32):
rare people I know who. You go back and look
at his second half defenses over a two year period
of time, they were pretty special. Made a lot of adjustments,
did a lot of things at halftime, including goan arrowhead
and shutting down peak Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes. You
go to the Super Bowl, I mean, we'll see, we'll
see about Al Golden. I think Al Golden don't gonna
(19:54):
be as good as his players, and I don't buy
the players on his side of the ball. And you know,
year they were hanging thirty eight on people and still losing,
hanging thirty five on people and still losing, hanging thirty
four on people and still losing, hanging twenty eight on
people and still losing. I don't know that equation has
changed a whole lot. I don't know that the interior
offensive line is much better than it has been. And
(20:18):
do I think that they'll beat the Browns Week one
and maybe get off to a better start than we've
seen before in some of these septembers. I mean, there's
nowhere to go but up. But I still think that,
you know, balance is the key to this league, and
they're completely one handed. I mean, they are a one
handed football team and that puts a lot of pressure
(20:38):
on everybody, and it's not sure it's going to bring
out the best in them.
Speaker 1 (20:44):
Jason Locking for our guest Jason Smith. Mike Harmon Lot
from the Fox Sports Radio studios. All right, to another
quarterback here. We get word today that JJ McCarthy is
going to play in the Vikings preseason opener Saturday. So far,
it seemed to have been an up and down camp.
What you expect from McCarthy, you know, I think the
first team reps is.
Speaker 2 (21:02):
That what you're hearing. Level of concern for you McCarthy.
Speaker 4 (21:04):
Right now, I mean, I don't think there's a level
of concern. It's a process. He's got to go through it.
He obviously you know that Sam Donald was the guy
last year and he got hurt early on, and so
there's no substitute for reps. I have a lot of
faith in Kevin O'Connell. I mean, he's super smart. The
(21:27):
term QB guru is thrown around the way to willy
nilly in this league, but he is one, and he's
going to understand better than anybody. With this kid capable
of doing week to week versus that defense, versus this
defense versus the other defense. I think he will try
to put him and succeed more often than not in
positions to continue to grow and develop and get better
(21:50):
through the course of the season. I trust his judgments
and evaluations of those skilled players explicitly, and that damn
good cast there. So it's not like this kid's got
a you know, an anchor around his neck. When it
comes to guys who can catch the ball, A couple
of wide receivers, a tight end, some interesting backs, we
can do some things. I'm catching the football as well,
(22:14):
So I think that's you know, that's still going to
be an interesting football team, and I think they'll be
pretty viable. And I do think that young quarterback will
look a whole lot better on the other side of
Thanksgiving than he probably does the first six or eight leagues.
Speaker 3 (22:29):
So go back into the AFC North, one of the
other most scrutinized squads. They did pay their defensive front
and TJ.
Speaker 2 (22:37):
Watt.
Speaker 3 (22:38):
But every throw from Aaron Rodgers being dissected, he's being
dominated by the defense.
Speaker 2 (22:44):
What do we take from what we've seen out of
La Trobe.
Speaker 4 (22:48):
Not much yet. I you know, this time of year,
defenses should be dominating the defenses. They've ran it back.
I mean it's the same thing, you know, like it's
being the offense. Obviously everything's new. I mean new number
one receiver. I'm going to say new number one tight
end because I think John Smith's could be better in
that offense than the other guy. New feature back, not
(23:12):
that you know he hadn't been there before, But they're
not running through Naja Harris anymore. So I'm not too
worried about that. Like Aaron Rodgers just needs to manage
the football game. He doesn't need to be super or stellar.
Russell Wilson was at last year there was justin fields
and the best I can recall, the Steelers is still
in the playoffs again. I think he'll understand the assignment,
(23:37):
and I think the new personnel is going to allow
them to do some interesting things. You know. I think
he's going to love throwing the football to Warrant. I
think they'll keep the change moving that way. This guy
was for most of his career a generational red zone quarterback,
and he's not going to look like when he was thirty.
(23:58):
But if he can, if he can manage the game
in the red zone, I think the defense is going
to be pretty damn good. And I think Mike Tomlin
still Mike Tomlins. So the Steelers are going to be
pushing for the postseason and December, same as it always was.
Speaker 1 (24:13):
All right, Jay, let's say because he does a lot
of things for me like this, so I'll do the
asking for Mike Harmon here. With Caleb Williams being on
the hot seat going into week one here, I really
like I like everything I've seen I've heard from him.
I think he's in a more position to succeed this year.
I'm expecting a big year from him. You on board
with Caleb Williams really making that breakthrough jump board. He
(24:35):
has some concerns.
Speaker 4 (24:37):
I mean, I think Ben Johnson's got a lot on
his plate, you know. I think the days of being
able to spend all your time with the quarterback and
scheme up all your cute plays and all that, that's
not what's That's a small part of what a head
coach does. So it's not even for me really reflection
on Caleb Williams. He was part of a bad operation
(24:58):
before with a bad head coach should have been can
long ago. We shouldn't they got his hands on him
in the first place, and so whenever you start that way,
you know, to my spidey fence's tangle. And then now, look,
everybody wants to say Ben Johnson'll be great, but I've
heard that about a lot of guys before. They said
that about McDaniel. I'm looking at him three years later.
So I do think there's going to be a learning curve,
(25:20):
Like I don't know that they come out of the
shoot and this coach has it all figured out. And
even just from a time management standpoint, I think he's
in good hands and I think they'll you know that
that offense will over time become something far more formidable
than we've expected a Bears offenses in general for the
(25:43):
better part of forty years. I know that's not saying much,
but I'm not, like, you know what I mean, Like
I think New England and Chicago. I think like I
buy it, like more or less long term, Like I
don't know that I buy it the first six weeks
of the season, like I'll probably be fading those teams
a little bit, Like I think the lines are going
(26:04):
to favor them more than they probably should. I think
Vegas will realize people are buying into the hype, and
I kind of got to see it from both from
both those operations.
Speaker 2 (26:17):
Last it wouldn't be a visit.
Speaker 3 (26:18):
I mean, we could go into justin fields and that
fun jet stuff, but plenty of time for that to
marrin eate in the interim. Did you read the ninety
thousand word notes file from Micah Parsons Jason Meyron the
divided front here, I think eventually, because he's in meetings
and hanging around the sidelines, he's the little kid that
wants back in and you just have to figure it out.
Speaker 4 (26:40):
Money always talks. I think the mouth Garrett situation was
for me, one that had much more potential to get
really real and force his way out. And ultimately even
then money talking, and he can't make as much money
off season are off the field as a Cleveland Brown
(27:02):
as Michael Parson can as a Dallas Cowboy. And you know,
Jerry certainly has a way of alienating people. And Jerry
this stuff about circumventing agents, I mean, this is not
this is not new. I mean I started covering the
NFL twenty one years ago and it was it was
you talk to agents then and they'd be complaining about it,
like the going on forever with the biggest of the
(27:26):
big stars. You tell me how many left in their
prime healthy for greener passions, like if you know what
I mean, Like even Romo, I mean it turned out
Romo was I mean, that was pretty much the end
and he was hurt anyway when he know it was
seriously hurt when that displaced him. Like how many people
in their prime as marketable as Michael Parkson, who sold
(27:48):
as many jerseys as Michael Parkson left there because Jerry
wanted draft picks and somebody else wanted to pay him
more money than Jerry it doesn't seem to me that
that happens very often. So I think at the end
of the day, he'll hold them over a barrel and
you'll have Dack on one side and you'll have mikeel
on the other, and they're gonna have these outlier contracts
(28:09):
and people are gonna be like and Mike's you know,
arguably more influential. But you tell me how many playoff
wins he has. Tell me about all his signature playoff moments,
and I got news for you, he ain't gonna have
any in the next two or three years either, because
they're not built for it.
Speaker 1 (28:24):
He's on Twitter at Jason lock and for that is
at Jason lock and for Odyssey Washington Post. Check out
the latest on Joe Burrow on the Post one oh
five seven the fan in Baltimore. Jay is always buddy appreciated.
Speaker 4 (28:35):
Man.
Speaker 2 (28:35):
If the Brown sign another quarterback, we'll call you back.
Speaker 4 (28:38):
Let's go, let's shoot for let's shoot for eight. I
want to hate by the time we talk next week. Easy.
Speaker 2 (28:44):
But Jason, you know it's funny. We could be there.
Speaker 1 (28:48):
We could we could be like Shandor Sanders is just
coming back from a storm. He can wind up being
out again, and I got to get another guy, right,
So suddenly Joe Flett all these guys, right, who's the
healthiest guy? The guy that's seventy five years old? Joe
any oldest guy, the only.
Speaker 3 (29:03):
Proof of concept that he can throw right now doesn't
matter because he's just standing.
Speaker 1 (29:06):
It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter now. It's protecting Joe Flacco.
Oh that's a hashtag project fly all the other younger guys.
Speaker 3 (29:12):
He's riding around in one of those bubble cars like
the Pope.
Speaker 1 (29:15):
You add the ages of all the younger guys together,
they still don't add up to Joe Flacco, and still
Flacco's the healthiest guy. Just think about that second. Think
about that. I mean amazing, Uh, timeout, Haco is elite.
Time not to find out what's trending in the wide
roller sports. Someone who's been called the Joe Flacco of
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (29:36):
He's older than most of us. It's Steve de Sager.
Not sure about that either, he said most not all.
Speaker 1 (29:42):
I was gonna say you were elite, but Harmon decided
to say elite, and he is gonna.
Speaker 7 (29:45):
Have a little more Flacco than Gordo. Sure, sure, sure,
Most teams start their exhibition schedule this week. There are,
for example, three games on Thursday. Fox Stevie he's gonna
have a Sunday night preseason game in a couple of weeks.
Bears hosting the Bills. Buffalo. Bills running back James Cook
sat out practice for a second straight day today. He
wants a contract extension. The Bills are off Tuesday. Buffalo
(30:07):
wide receiver Khalil Shakir as week to week with a
high ankle spraining. Eagles wide receiver AJ Brown did not
practice again today hamstring injury. The forty nine Ers released
kicker Greg Joseph, needing the roster space, so Jake Moody
might keep his job there. San Francisco wide out Juwan
Jennings is still out with a calf injury. The Falcons
gave tackle Caleb McGarry a two year extension. Atlanta quarterbacks
(30:30):
Michael Pennix and Kirk Cousins will each sit out Friday's
exhibition opener. Minnesota tight end TJ. Howkinson did not practice
due to a hip injury, but Yes Vikings quarterback JJ
McCarthy will play Saturday's preseason opener. He had knee surgery
a year ago. Texas and Ohio State are one two
in the preseason coaches pol in college football and Texas
(30:51):
will open at Ohio State on Fox TV August the thirtieth,
noon Eastern time. The Longhorns received twenty eight first place votes.
Ohio State got twenty. Penn State is a close number
three in the preseason rankings, Georgia number four.
Speaker 2 (31:04):
You know, Ohio State doesn't have a quarterback. I think
Justin Fields can still be their quarterback.
Speaker 7 (31:08):
Well, the problem is Syracuse keeps stealing all of them.
So when you're dealing with a power like that, well
we do.
Speaker 1 (31:14):
We stole a guy from Ohio State, and now we
stole a guy from Notre Dame. Okay, you weren't working.
Speaker 7 (31:18):
And Notre Dame was preseason number five in the rest
case AP's preseason. Paul comes out next Monday speaking at NCAA.
It will not expand the March Madness Hoops field next year,
but they'll still talk about expansion for twenty twenty seven,
maybe seventy two or seventy six teams onto the Major
League Baseball scoreboard. Cincinnati Reds three two leaders at the
(31:42):
Cubs with two outs in the bottom of the ninth.
Milwaukee has already won three to one at Atlanta. The
Brewers started the day two games up on the Cubs
for first in the NL Central. In the NL East,
the first place Phillies now a game and a half
ahead of the Mets. Phillies got six home runs in
a thirteen to three win over Baltimore. Kyle Schwarber hit
two out of the park. He has forty homers this year.
(32:03):
The Mets lost in ten innings at home to Cleveland
seven to six. Boston won at six game in a
row eight to five over Kansas City, was eight one
going to the eighth. Pittsburgh and Houston with wins. Detroit
beat Minnesota six to three. Among the games in progress,
the Toronto Blue Jays, the first place team in the
AL East, led at Colorado nine to nothing in the third.
(32:25):
It is now nine to one going to the seventh inning.
Barring a huge Rockies comeback, they're going to be thirty
and eighty two on the season. Angels lead the Rays
four to one, bottom of the third, Diamondbacks ahead of
the Padres two to one bottom of the third. Bottom
of the second in LA Cardinals lead the Dodgers and
Tyler glasnow one to nothing. The WNBA is off Minnesota
(32:47):
All Star and a FISA. Collier will miss at least
two weeks with a sprained ankle. She's averaging twenty four
points a game. Saturday, her team twenty four and five
won a blowout decision at Las Vegas, but Collier left
with the ankle injury. She was still in the game
late third quarter with her team up by forty three points.
And Angel Reese for Chicago has now missed five of
(33:09):
their last seven games with a bad back. They lost
yesterday at home. Indiana's won five straight without the injured
Caitlin Clark. New York Liberty got a win yesterday without
Brianna Stewart, who's been out this past week.
Speaker 2 (33:21):
Well, all these players, they're all irrelevant.
Speaker 1 (33:22):
We don't we don't need Clark, Angel Rees, we don't
need Brianna Stewart, don't need any of that.
Speaker 7 (33:26):
I need to market anybody or anything.
Speaker 1 (33:28):
Apparently, phe Becker's having a great year team is terrible
matter to get rid of all these star players and
replace them with all players that that that you know
people aren't talking about.
Speaker 7 (33:37):
Stewart is a knee injury. By the way, but yeah,
no w NBA games.
Speaker 1 (33:40):
Tonight, Beckery, thank you, Steve. The Jason Smith Show with
my best friend Mike Carmen. Remember I told you the
the Nation night of the National Championship game that one
of my best friend's brother in law lost lost everything
in the UH in one of the fires and Pacific Palisades,
and he was upland potentially winning this huge parlay oh
bet like across like four different sports like Premier League
(34:02):
soccer and the NFL, and he needed Notre Dame to
win the National Championship. He's gonna win like like fifty
thousand dollars, And of course he didn't win, but he
was able to supplement and he won like ten or
fifteen grand. He's got another crazy bet. Yeah, and it's
again he could win like fifty grand and it comes
if the Blue Jays win the World Series. And I'm like,
oh my goodness, man, like I would try to get that.
(34:25):
I would try to be bought out on that. Right now,
he's another it's over over English Premier League and the
NFL and college football all this credit. He needs the
Blue Jays to win the World Series. I'm like, how
do you have that foresight? To bet the blue Jays
like months ago, like this is before the season started,
to bet the Blue Jays to win, and he needs
that and he can win like fifty grand I'm.
Speaker 2 (34:43):
Like, I know DU talked about them for the division,
but not yet that I.
Speaker 1 (34:47):
Would say, you got, you got. I told my best
I told my best friends. I said, you have to
you know, because you're my best friend. He's one of
my best friends. And I said, listen, you got to.
You gotta tell him.
Speaker 2 (34:54):
You got to pay. You gotta get paid out on.
Speaker 3 (34:55):
That currently top seven favorite, they're actually tied for six
with Houston. You got the Dodgers than the Phillies, Tigers, Mets, Yankees,
and then it's Astros, Blue Jays and Cubs all at
thirteen to one. Probably could actually get a payout, payout
that zero. Yeah, do you start hedging. Yeah, that's true.
Speaker 2 (35:16):
Yeah, just start betting.
Speaker 1 (35:18):
But how you can't really bet against You have to
get the Blue Jays to get to the World Series
and then bet the other Well, like and that's that's
that's tough.
Speaker 2 (35:25):
That's tough one right now, Well that's difficult. This is
where you get into the marketplace.
Speaker 3 (35:28):
Right now, See if you can find yourself a little
bit of a price shot.
Speaker 1 (35:31):
Coming up next, How close are we to a huge
firing in Major League Baseball? It's next Radio Jason and
Mike Fox.
Speaker 2 (35:39):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (35:51):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmon.
Speaker 2 (35:55):
Yeah, and you know not to say we told you so,
but we kind of did. Uh.
Speaker 1 (36:01):
Friday night, the Yankees lost to the Marlins, and one
of the biggest, most shocking give backs you will see, right,
all the Yankees new players from the deadline imploded, whether
it was cabiiro in the field, the new relievers who
all gave up runs. And I said, this is one
of those games that you could look back at the
end of the year and go, this is the end
(36:22):
of the Yankee season. Right, Not all losses are created
equal in one hundred and sixty two game seasons. About
what happened after that? Marlin swept the Yankees? Right, Marlins
don't sweep the Yankees? Right, doesn't ever happen? And the
Marlins sweep the Yankees. Right now, the Yankees are trying
to hold on to a five to four lead against
the Rangers, who are coming to bat in the bottom
of the ninth inning. And we said this on Friday.
(36:46):
Look this is and the Yankees are hoping to get
Aaron Judge back. They are grasping at straws right now.
But it comes down to this, right And I read
this today was really weird that that someone I forget
it was on Twitter said I don't understand yo. Tory
won four championships in seven years and still it wasn't enough,
and the Yankees fired him after however, many non championship years.
(37:08):
Aaron Boone has not won a title in eight years,
and still he's the manager. If the Yankees free fall continues,
and they've already lost ten games in the standings in
the last five weeks, if the free fall comes to
the point where they start falling out of the wild
card race, like they start falling two three games behind,
(37:29):
they'll fire Aaron Boone at before the season ends. They're
not gonna wait till the end of the season and
give away what could be a good year if guys
come back healthy.
Speaker 2 (37:38):
Whatever, it's going to be.
Speaker 1 (37:39):
This is not gonna be where the Yankees say, well,
we just stink and we're completely gonna give this away.
They're gonna get rid of Aaron Boon anyway, right if
if they have a year where they go from the
World Series to missing the playoffs, Aaron Boone's out. But
if they fall to a point where they're looking at hey,
we're they're already looking up at the Red Sox in
the standings, which is insane considering how the Red Sox started.
If they follow that point, they're like three games out
(38:01):
and you're getting into the late part of August, they
will fire Aaron Boon. It will be somebody else new
in there, because obviously the old can't fire the players
looking for way to spark the Yankees, they're not gonna
watch this season, just circle down the drain.
Speaker 2 (38:14):
I would say Boons.
Speaker 1 (38:15):
Got till August twentieth, Between twentieth twenty fifth the Yankees
to really pick things up again and maybe look, maybe
they don't go back and win the division, but staying
in a big wildcard spot that will buy him at
least the rest of the year. But again, watch if
they fall a couple of games out, three games I
forget it. Aaron Boon's gone. He's a ghost where it's
hard to understand.
Speaker 3 (38:36):
And we talked about it even as they got all
the way to the World Series, ultimately folding.
Speaker 2 (38:41):
They did so in spite of themselves.
Speaker 3 (38:43):
Right, how many games did we watch sitting here in
the studio, going wow, that base running and fielding and
all of this is gonna come back to bite him
in the ass. And it did on the biggest stage,
which normally is your manager walks the plank. But since
Cashman's there, he's got seemingly the lifetime deal.
Speaker 2 (39:03):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (39:03):
And this goes back to the divide I think between
where Boone is and Tori. I'd be curious how much
Boone actually calls any of the shots.
Speaker 4 (39:10):
Right?
Speaker 3 (39:11):
Are they working a system something akin to what the
Dodgers do? I mean Dave Roberts with great you know acuity,
And obviously he gets a lot of credit for what
they did with the bullpen, but when it goes wrong,
it becomes me, well, he's he's got the food chain.
So you got to decide where where, what percentages the
managerial gut decision versus you know, what's the organizational and
(39:35):
in the end, you know when we see the air mailing.
Speaker 2 (39:38):
From Volpi or whatever. I mean, there's nothing airon Boone's.
Speaker 3 (39:41):
Gonna be able to do about that, or the new
bullpen pieces that they acquired for him implode. This is how,
this is what I was supposed to do. I can't
make the pitch for him now. Before I never thought
I'd stand up for Aaron Boone. But before you think
it's the point, you know what I mean. I know
it's not that you're not I'm not saying it's Aaron
Boone's fault, but I live in reality where the yank
(40:03):
What are you gonna.
Speaker 2 (40:04):
Do at that point?
Speaker 1 (40:04):
There's something, There's no trades you can make, There's nothing
else you can do. So what you're gonna get rid
if the season ends horribly, you're gonna get rid of
him anyway.
Speaker 2 (40:12):
Right, So we're all the way. You're looking at something and.
Speaker 1 (40:16):
You from and before you think this can't happen, Okay,
before you think this can happen, let me just tell
you right now they have a half game lead on
Seattle for the third Wild Card. Texas is two games back,
Cleveland is two and a half games back. Then you
got the Royals are still right there. But let's just
say here, the Yankees are right now Texas creeping up
on them. So it's there for the Yankees. And speaking
(40:39):
of it being there for the Yankees, as we are
talking about this, Jock Peterson homer's off of Devin Williams
to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth
inning five to five.
Speaker 2 (40:52):
His third home run of the year.
Speaker 1 (40:53):
Pend that Jack Peterson, Pete Alonzo broke Devin Williams. Man,
he broke him last year. This is this would be
yet another incredibly death. You think, Okay, we lost the Martin.
Let's reset here and now they potentially could lose here
in the ninth inning and a walk off Devin Waders
giving up a big home run to Jock Peterson.
Speaker 3 (41:12):
He's walking around the mountain talking to himself, putting his
glove over his selling health.
Speaker 2 (41:16):
I don't know how much.
Speaker 1 (41:17):
Maybe another couple of weeks, Aaron Boone has maybe another
couple of run coming up. Next we have I could
guarantee you it will be the hottest take of the week.
Speaker 2 (41:25):
Next Yeah,
