on YouTube. It will be there. Mike and I love
putting this content out for you every single night, and
there will be a lot of content about Bunting tonight,
because yeah, you nothing boils my blood about, but you
know I feel about bunting and I just watched The
Red Sox give game to a way to the Yankees,
(01:11):
partly because oh no, no, we're gonna try to bunt.
We have first and second. Nobody at that's bunt base
running and the inability to go back to the hallmark
of my eighties and early nineties wrestling, the excellence of
execution fail.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
We'll get to that game in a second, but quick
update from Chavez Ravine. Right now, middle of the fourth inning. Again,
this game, like last night, this game is flying. Wait
for it. Reds lead the Dodgers two to one right now,
middle of the fourth. The Reds have the lead mainly
because ti Oscar Hernandez dropped an easy pop up in
right feel that led to two runs by the Reds
(01:54):
as they put two up in the top of the
first inning, which is the exact start the Reds needed
coming off of last night. The Dodgers just bludgeting them
into submission. Hey, they hit the bullpen late. Can we
keep it going here? They get two runs off the
top and Hernandez it's a ball that he should have caught.
It's a ball that he was standing on both feet for.
This was not something that was really hard. It's not
(02:14):
something that was he had to dive for it.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
Duran.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
This was something that he needed to make a play on,
and he just dropped. Arnold Schwarzenegger's character was called the
Butcher a Baker's field in total in Running Man, people
they just want to eat down. Now get let them
get food. This eliminate everyone. No, the Butcher might be
well applied here to what Taoscar Hernandez did, because he
(02:39):
also then caused an extra ten pitches in that inning
for Yamamoto, which, as we know, hastens the arrival of
the bullpen. You don't want the Yeah, you don't want
the bullpen arriving at all. You want you eighting was over?
You want to done. We want to push that arrival
of the bullpen as far off as you can. Can
I get it to not happen tonight? Probably not? Can
(03:02):
I delay it longer? Well, now that's something we can
talk about.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
You know.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
That's the holidays are rapidly approaching. That is, you're you're
tracking family members that you may or may not want
at the dinner table and around your house. Oh they're
gonna be delayed. That's too bad. Uh, that's that's it.
That's what you want for the bullpen stale delay this
all right, gret Now, but here's the thing, right, and
I get it, and Taskarnandez is the top of social
(03:26):
media trending. I understand. But here's the thing is that
I get that people are upset Dodger fans, but I
shrugged my shoulder. I give you, what are you gonna do? No,
that's it. The guy has to play somewhere. His bat stays.
He's a middle of the order guy. He's been great
for these about a great career. He's RBI yesterday, he's
awful in the field. Show Halo Tani's your designated hitter.
(03:50):
He's gotta play somewhere. This is not college softball where
he can have a DP and someone can play and
just hit and Sid can't have that. Man can't have it. Now,
I mean the Dodgers might want to push her that
with Toddy Well, I mean, look, we're making a lot
of rule changes in Major League Baseball. Can I play
with eight fielders in seven and I have two? You
think the Dodgers will be better off playing with one
(04:11):
lesson the yes or with Hernandez actually in the field
one fewer. Okay, all right, Now we have to get
around those pesky shift rules in terms of how we
position our infield. But I think we can figure that out. Well,
that's that story. That's a that's a story for another day.
That's it. But I mean, really, I mean, what else
do you want? Like, oh, her Nandi is what is
(04:32):
he doing in the field? Because he hits well, the
Dodgers radio broadcast started going at him. Why is he
two runs gifted? And he's gotta play? I mean, he's
gotta play somewhere? Well, where else do you want him
to play? Can't play first base? That's Freddie Freeman. You
want to play left field? Okay, it's still in the outfilla.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
Still.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
You can only hide him so much. But that's there.
But this is the thing about the Dodgers is that
and this gets into a bigger conference. It's not just
about toausk carnandas, but this is a Dodger team that
is going to try to win the World Series. And
they are awful defensively right because they've decided we're moving
Mookie Betts, who was a goal glove right field or
into the infield. They've still never replaced because I'm sure
(05:15):
they thought their succession plan was Okay, well, we have
our shortstop and Corey Seegers our guy. Looks like we're
not going to pay for him. They make the trade
for trade Turner. He's gonna be our guy. Nope, Nope,
they don't have either of them, so they move Mookie Bets.
Mookie Betts who is not great at shortstop. He's a
goal glove in the outfield. So now you're taking a
guy who is a goal glove in the outfield, moving
to shortstop where he's not nearly as strong as some
(05:36):
other guys, and you're replacing him with a guy who
really can't field at all. So understand that you got
to get you know, there's give and take here. This
is not just well, I mean, the Dodgers have decided
we are going through it with a defense that is
really subpar, and there's many players you can hit the
ball to, and hey, I'll take my chances, you know,
because Max Muncy is not as mobile as you'd like
(05:58):
to be at third base, and that left side of
the infield is not quite where it is you have
and you have task garnhandas and right field. I mean,
you are sacrificing your defense for the lineup. You are
putting out there, and that's something you have to accept that.
Can't complain about it. Don't complin be upset, I got it,
but don't complain no, because this is what you do,
because this is what you have to do to get
(06:19):
your best line up out. Oh, you made the calculated
risk right and decided that the coefficients to all the
variables offensively outweighed those of what could go wrong defensively. Unfortunately,
when the margins and your opponents are better, you don't
have quite the difference in those coefficients. And we get
(06:39):
too closer to a balance in that equation because we
saw it almost last night, right, based on the inability
of the Dodger relievers to put the ball over the plate.
Just look, the guy put it in play, although to
this point I don't know that I want to put
it in play either. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean
(06:59):
we'll look at but look that that's how it goes, right.
That that's the that's the trade you make, right, that's
the trade. Be upset about him dropping. I'm not saying
you know what he's said, But don't sit here and say, oh,
why do we know you know? You know it on
a field, No, that's just guys on the field. What
else do you want? Rights, no other place to hide him.
I just want to I just want to keep playing
that that Brad Pitt moneyball. His defense does not matter. Defense,
(07:22):
But Haddleberg can't play first back, his defense does not matter.
So the Dodgers trailing right now two to one, although
it looks like it's gonna wind up being two to two. Uh,
Key k a Hernandez with a double to the right
field wall, and I love how the f you got
his bubblehead. This is this is now like you know year,
This is like year eight or nine. And then Key
(07:43):
Hernandez is still playing the outfit for the Dodgers in
big games. Yeah, you just think about that. You put
him in balls and then in September first say are
you ready? Keiky Hernandez is still gonna play left He's
still when it comes down to it, no matter what
changes we make, keyk Hernandez is gonna be playing left
field for the Dodgers in big playoffs. What's you're running?
Joke is? Does the Guardians Kenny Lofton still play some
(08:03):
It doesn't matter. He's gonna be fifty five years old
still playing left field. When they start paying Otani's contract,
he's gonna be in left field. Sorry, he'll start in
left field and Otani's retirement. Dad, that's all right. I'm
here to get the big hit from Hernandez and the
first guy they show waving the rally towel. No magic Johnson, Well,
of course, uh so again to two here, but you
(08:25):
know that there's your drama with the Dodgers and the
Reds right now again. Uh, maybe we get another game
three because right now we have three games tomorrow in
Major League Baseball, which is so bamin football. But let
me just say this. Let me say this. This shows
you how managers can have good and bad games from
game to game. Right, all Eric Alex Kora got yesterday,
(08:48):
Red Sox manager was all the plaudits for making all
the right decisions, pushing the right bunts right, leaving Garret
Crochet out there, Hey out manage Aaron Boone. Okay, Aaron
Boone had a bad day managing right. Crochet came just
shy of saying that he threatened him. Yeah, well yeah, game,
let's become cool though. He once Blake Snell did that. Man,
He's like, hey, it's open season, man, on all you mattered,
(09:09):
doesn't want to take us out of game. People were like, oh,
look at the Huberts. I'm like, no, it is I
read into that that he threatened if he came out
before the eighth, he was going to take him down.
We're gonna now it's gonna be like rookies in there
in their first start. Hey, coming out, now you'll come
get me. Man were talking about been in this game
for thirty five years. I'm a Hall of Famer. I
don't care what you are. You're coming out of this game.
(09:31):
So the Red Sox did all they could, and congratulations
to them because they apparently weren't happy enough today until
they gave the Yankees the game they gave they were
the Yankees. And this is why I say, you know
managers have good games from game to game, is because
Alex Korra all of a sudden got so incredibly conservative
(09:53):
in this game. Everything I can point to for for
the Red Sox, well outside Duran's error in left field,
which was just I went too like you talk about
not scoring, uh eat not scoring on the infield single
ye eating as that ball gets away, great play by
uh you great players, right to keep it in the infield,
comes up throwing the ball, scorts away. How he wasn't
(10:14):
already aggressively rounding third and just a full head of steam.
By the way, congratulations to Aaron Boone realized he needed
to play both Rice and him today. I do a
good job by him. I think I I think I
could have managed a team today and put them put
them both in. Yeah, to be fair, you've been saying
that for one hundred and sixty four games could have
been managed sixty five. But the other part is, and
this was the big turning point of the game, right
(10:37):
seventh inning, all of a sudden, your guy. And I
call him your guy because now again another another former
White Sox player who was pitching for good teams. And
I'm like, how do you guys suck so bad? Every day?
It's hey, here's a former white side guy. This guy
is actually my guy. I love this guy. Here's a
(10:57):
former White Sox player doing great thing in the play.
Last night. It was crochet tonight. It's rote Dot. You
wouldn't have set the bleeping record if you'm onto these guys.
I still go back and forth with he and his
wife everyone while social media, Your guy, all of a sudden,
loses it, right, he can't throw a strike, go to
the bullpen. Awesome. Red Sox have first and second. Yankees
(11:17):
are on their heels, nobody out and Rafaela tries to
bunt and you see them in a surprise and he pops
it up and I just see that, and I just
I have to count to ten because, first of all,
you know how much I hate the bunt, right as
much of an old school baseball guy as I am.
Bunting is terrible, right, Bunting is, Yes, it's a lost art.
(11:40):
And I see the same complaints on social media. How
players can't bunt in this era of Major League baseball
is ridiculous. It's the fundamental place. Sorry, I'm sorry you
don't like that, and I agree with you, But you
know what not happening if a guy can't bunt, and
it's a situation now, And it sound like Raphael hasn't
bunted before, But is he a good bunter? No how
(12:00):
he was reaching for that ball. And sometimes it's one
thing to bunt in the seventh inning of Game eighty
seven of one hundred and sixty two. It's quite another
thing to bunt in the top of the seventh with
two on and nobody out a Yankee stadium, when you
can send these guys home, it becomes much more difficult
to butt. And he bunts it a bad pitch, doesn't
really try to get his body in at it, and
he pops up and the Yankees wind up getting out
(12:21):
of the inning.
Speaker 3 (12:22):
Right.
Speaker 1 (12:22):
Two batters later, out of the inning, first and second,
nobody out, and you go conservative, we're gonna try to
play for a run. What are you doing? What are
you doing? I mean I understand, yeah, should be able
to butnt Yeah, players show, but if they can't, they can't.
And you can't just to say that, well, it's embarrassing. No,
you have to know your players and know how difficult
it is to place a bunt down because it's not
(12:43):
like the bunt is automatic. And that's another thing that
gets me from people who want to talk about bunting
and how great bunting is. It's like, yeah, if you
can get the bunt down, you execute it right. I
still don't like the outcome. Now again, Billy mean moneyball,
They're giving us an out. Don't be a hero, pick
up the ball, throw at the first base, right, that's
what it pick the ball through to the first base.
If they're playing for a run, the most they're gonna
get as a run, but you have to be able to
(13:05):
execute it. And as people forget about the execution part
of it, that hey, yeah, laying that bunt down in
this kind of situation is really hard. It's going for
it on fourth down in the NFC championship game when
say we've done it all year. Well, it's a different
thing to do it on the road in the third quarter,
when you're trying to put a team away and all
of a sudden things get jittery. It's a different thing
(13:25):
to ask a guy to do. And so when that
bunt popped up, I said the Red Size, I turned,
I turned to my wife and I said, the Red
Sox just lost this game. They just lost this game
because now they're not gonna get a run. And this
is a mistake you don't come back from. The Yankees
will get a run. They scratch out a run in
the eighth inning, they get a big single by Wells
that took him the lead, and they win the game
(13:45):
for to three, and now they go to play tomorrow.
The Red Sox blew it tonight, no matter how you
want to cut it up. The Red Sox blew it
and they handed the Yankees this game tonight should have
been the Red Sox going on, the Yankees going home,
and Aaron Boone is giving away all his Yankee gear
the endgoing they're firing me. Here, take my cleats, here's
my pants. I'll sign them for you, like here's my
here's my EyeBlack. Take it right here, here's my hat.
(14:09):
He'd be fair. He may want to keep the jersey
and stirrups and everything because he will come back for
old timers. Well yeah, because well you hit the home run.
He's kind of a big gale, so I mean he
still has that going for this. That's where we should be. Instead,
we're talking about Game three. Raphaela in his career, Well,
I guess how many sacrifice buns he had two? Five
(14:30):
to them five? Okay, that's more than I thought. Yeah, no,
a couple more. But the point being outside, I think
there was a data point about how frequently the Padres
played some small ball in the middle of the summer. Otherwise,
how many teams do you do you really know that's
how they're playing. You don't play for one run your
(14:51):
Red Sox Yankees. You think that one run is going
to solve everything against the Yankees. Yeah, in three years,
when you've got like six guys in that line, if
that already runs, you play for one run, you'll get
one run. Maybe, like that's the whole thing. You play,
you'll get on. Maybe you get one run. You got
the Yankees on their heels. Man, Yeah, rodn was was
was was dealing. He was pitching pretty well, right, he wasn't.
(15:13):
He wasn't pitching like Gett. But into all of a
sudden he lost it, right, he lost it. You're like, whoa,
Now the Yankees are wounded and vulnerable, and then you
come in, Yeah, we're gonna bunt like, well, I don't
get it. I don't get all of a sudden where
the Red Sox just got incredibly conservative. You got the
drop fly ball they handed the Yankees this game. They
(15:33):
gave it to them. If they go home tomorrow, they
just have themselves to blame for tonight, because tonight tonight
we're talking about.
Speaker 3 (15:39):
Man.
Speaker 1 (15:40):
The Yankees are out, they lose two games, Aaron Boone's
getting fired. Derek Jeter is gonna manage them all these days.
That's what we should be saying, but instead we're not
three three game two on nobody out pitching change bunt man.
I don't understand it. This guy's coming in coming in
cold in a huge situation, playoff heat and you bail
(16:03):
them out. Send your checks to the to Fenway Park,

Dodgers now lead the Reds three to two. Middle of
the fifth inning to nothing lead by the Reds thanks
to a big airby to Oskar Hernandez, who has seen
putting his arm around Yoshinoba Yamamoto. I'm so sorry, man,
(18:36):
I'm so sorry. I think I did so many bad things.
Key k Hernandez with a double dest center to tie it,
and then Rojas just a bleeder to right field to
bring in keyk Hernandez. Dodgers lead the Reds now three
to two as they come to bat in the bottom
of the fifth inning. So we'll lot more baseball on
the way, but time not to break down all the
(18:56):
big news in the NFL. Joining us on the hotline.
No body better than a long time NFL insider with

It's Jason lock and for what's happening?
Speaker 3 (19:08):
Jay?
Speaker 1 (19:08):
How are you?
Speaker 3 (19:09):
Man? I'm doing well. How are you guys? Good?
Speaker 1 (19:12):
Okay, So you gotta lift a lid on this. I
know there's whatever. There's no talk. Mum's the word in Baltimore,
Lamar Jackson and Sandra. What's going on with Lamar? We
heard we didn't hear anything today. No one's saying anything.
What's the deal with him now? As you guys are
facing this huge must win the next couple of weeks.
Speaker 3 (19:30):
Yeah, I don't. I don't think he's playing in the game.
You know, you know, things to change, he'll get uh
peeve it and everything, but you're not doing anything in practice.
And I you know, they've got to buy in two
weeks that they're they're losing people left and right. Uh.
(19:56):
I don't think they'll haveing left tackle for this game.
Are certainly not going to have their fullback the right
side of the offensive line. He has been problematic. I
you know, he wasn't able to finish the last game.
It is what it is. I don't think that there's
(20:18):
like a magic elixir or that all of a sudden
go abrub something on that and he's going to to
be able to play. I don't think this is subterfuge.
He's got a solf tissue problem and they've got massive
(20:39):
issues all the way around right now. And this is
as close as you can get to a must win
game in early October for a team with the kind
of expectations that they have, as you're going to get
and they know what they've got looming with the Rams,
and then they've got a bye week, and I think
they're going to have to try to win a game
or two here with uh a lot of Cooper rush
(21:02):
and maybe a little bit of snow puntley on some
obvious you know, option situation and running situations. But I
think they're I think they're in trouble.
Speaker 1 (21:17):
As you mentioned all the they're already struggling on defense,
and now they've got what five starters uh that that
will miss a game or two. So it's because I
guess Houston's offense helps you somewhat. Although Woody Marks looked
pretty good this last time out. Let's stay in division
with the Cleveland Browns. They make the switch to Dylan
Gabriel expectations based on the limited preseason we saw him.
Speaker 3 (21:43):
I don't have any, guys, I really don't. You know. Look,
I thought Ida Jackson Dart was walking into, you know,
the belly of the beast. And I'm not going to
sit here and say he had the most sterling debut
in the history of the league. But he protected the football.
(22:03):
He looked better than Herbert. Now you got protected better
than Herbert, But you just don't know. And this one's
there's so much variant here. I mean, it's happening abroad.
The other team's got major quarterback issues too, and they're
spending two straight weeks abroad. Sometimes it catch lightning in
(22:24):
a bottle. I think his size is a real issue.
I don't think it's an arm that's going to be
strong enough to over compensate for some of the others that,
you know, some of the other attributes that are a
little lacking. He's clearly got some spunk, But I don't
think next year's Brown starting quarterback is on this roster.
(22:47):
That's just you know, the reality. And it's a really
good defense, and maybe the run game comes along, and
certainly it doesn't take much to play better than Flack
I was playing. And he's going to be more spy
and more agile, and that'll help them in certain ways.
But I don't think this is a situation where it's
(23:07):
Russell Wilson two point zero, you know what I mean,
in the whole league missed out on a for three rounds.
Speaker 1 (23:12):
I just don't, Well, what do you make of Shadora
Sanders today? Asked his question, he started minding his answers
kind of a talk back at Rex Ryan, who said,
this guy needs to shut up and play football, And
here's your door doing the whole mind thing in the
locker room when he's being asked questions about what's going on.
Speaker 3 (23:30):
I thought it was funny. I mean, like, I don't
know those kids. Damned if he doesn't, Damned if he doesn't.
What I really couldn't figure out is why is the
third string quarterback even really available? Like? Why?
Speaker 2 (23:44):
True?
Speaker 3 (23:44):
Honestly, what I was thinking is like these windows to
talk to these players are so tight, and the teams
intentionally schedule lunches and meetings and film sessions and stuff
during those windows right to give players out. And they've
had a quarterback change and he's not a part of it,
and he's not either the number one or number two
(24:06):
on the depth chart. And he literally didn't say anything
because you just pretended to say words. And this is
the story desire out of Cleveland. I Wowser's I honestly
was like, why why are they making him available to
the media, Like why don't they just say, hey, we're
going to help you out here? Go you know what
(24:27):
I mean, go just hang out in the quarterback room.
I don't have a problem with what he did. Again,
I think it was tongue in cheek, and people are
ripping him for every you know, every look, every fasal expression,
every smirk or potential smirk. So I honestly think he's
(24:48):
handled it. You know. It's Yes, it's tongue in cheek,
But I thought it was kind of creative. I thought
it was kind of cute, like I don't know, man,
like he's because he didn't get sent to the principal's
office for this, Like I don't know. I honestly didn't
have a problem with it.
Speaker 1 (25:07):
I thought it was a nice distraction. We got an
actual starting quarterback change over here. But if you want
to worry about miming, that's great. Well, all right, forty
nine ers. Is anybody besides Christian McCaffrey ready to play?
It just seems one week after week it's the other
side of the coin from what you've got with the Ravens.
(25:28):
Can Montana and Taylor get it done tomorrow night? A
little bit of Brent Jones? Can they get it done
with all the juryraft been ready to go and block you?
Speaker 3 (25:36):
No, I think they're in trouble. And look if they
were going to even try to run pretty out there
after that thing on Sunday, I mean, what are you doing?
You can't tell me, Matt Joneses. Other than that, I
didn't think much of them coming into the year. They've
got a record that I think flatters them. There's no
(26:00):
pass rush to speak, and that was even with Bosa.
And if you were counting on Bosa, you're a full
because he's been breaking down for a couple of years
now and he's not available much. I mean, I think
there's maybe if you went and looked at that Super
Bowl they played against Kansas City and like their top
fifteen or sixteen guys in smack count on defense, I
(26:23):
think there's one or two still there and they can't
run the ball at damn. I mean McCaffrey's averaging three
to three to carry like outside zone behind. You know,
Trent Williams is going nowhere. I think they're in trouble.
It doesn't look like a very creative offense. I mean
McCaffrey's touched the ball one hundred times already, and it's
(26:44):
not explosive, it's not prolific. I mean losing Kittle like
like Kiddle at this stage of his career, Like, come on, man,
that shouldn't cripple your offense now, nol piersoll too, and
I know you it's gonna hurt, but he got a
whole all season to offset some of this. No, I
don't think they're a particularly good football team, and I
(27:05):
think they're walking into a buzz soft minor.
Speaker 1 (27:08):
Yeah, you know that's the thing is, Look the Rams.
I mean they've made a cottage industry the last three
years of We're going to start out one and four.
People write us off in the back half of the season.
Matthew Stafford's great. They look like the best team in
the NFL, and boy, they really get close. Like I
feel like all they got to do is stack wins
or this the toughest schedule in the NFL, and they're
stacking wins and stack and wins. I mean, good luck, man,
(27:30):
good luck against this team.
Speaker 3 (27:33):
Yeah. I mean they have the better offense, the better defense,
the far better special teams. They've got, the better head coach,
they've got, the better quarterback. They've got the advantage in
a short week. Now, what happens in this league, There's
no doubt about that. But I think San Francisco is
going to have to throw the ball way more than
they'd like, given the way they're presently constituted. I think
(27:55):
their offensive line is going to get borderline eviscerated by
a hung hungry and young range Rams group up front.
I don't know if Nick Day, like the Rams run
game hasn't been phenomenal. This might be a get right game.
And I know that, you know, Sean tends to, you know,
when he gets a lead, maybe not go for the
(28:16):
juggling in the way some some others might, and maybe
they let the forty nine ers hang around a little
more than they should. But I don't think it's going
to these closest, you know, the way Seattle at Arizona
hang around A week ago. I don't think it's it's
going to be that much of a sweat for them.
I think Pookah's going to keep doing Pooka things. I
(28:36):
think Stafford will throw his two touchdown passes, and I
think San Francisco offensively. If you haven't seen them, and
you haven't seen how pop gun and kind of suspect
this is, then you're in for a surprise because this
this don't look anything like Shanahan offenses in the past.
Speaker 1 (28:56):
Check them out on honesty. One of five seven the
fan in Baltimore Washington Post wanna bet as well. All
the info on his Twitter page at Jason lock And
for it, Jay, as always, buddy, appreciate it, man, enjoy
the games. We'll talk to you next week.
Speaker 3 (29:08):
Thanks God, you did the same, big good rather.
Speaker 1 (29:10):
Hie, There goes Jason lock And for it. Yeah. Look,
you know the Chador Sanders thing. It's all about optics
with him, right, Like, like, I get you, Jay, Why
is the third string quarterback of elb Butt Shadoor Sanders
is He's a popular guy, right still, the most popular
guy people want to hear about in that locker room.
The optics are always a thing with him, right, because
what I saw today, Like I thought it was kind
(29:31):
of funny. But when you look at it and say, okay,
how is this gonna be perceived? Is this gonna be
perceived as being funny or is it gonna be perceived
as because of the optics surrounding him?
Speaker 3 (29:41):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (29:42):
Here he is. He's not taking this seriously. He's upset
he's not the starting quarterback. It's like, you have to
be able to control the narrative. And that's the thing
with Shadoor Sanders is that you know, sometimes he doesn't
really do a good job of that and and the
narrative gets away from him and it's something that he
winds up having to answer for because this was not
that big a deal. But you can't control the optics
of how it's gonna be. But that's just it. It all
(30:02):
runs in parallel, right. We had the Rex Ryan comments
from the other day when he was saying, hey, I'm
better than a bunch of folks, and it was intimated
al though he didn't say it explicitly. I'd be better
than Joe Flacco, I think, is how a lot of
folks read the room. And then Dylan Gabriel gets named
the starter for this week against Minnesota. Okay, and then
Joe Flacco took to the podium and was asked about
(30:24):
Dylan Gabriel and talked about his study habits and how
seriously he takes that. Yeah, which again may it may
have nothing to do with what Shor Sanders was doing
in another room, but it all piles in together to
create him. It's not like Flacco said, he hadn't study,
unlike the other guy hasn't cracked a book yet. Right,
he had to hold up his picture. He didn't do
(30:45):
the old I'm holding up my hand and pointing this guy.
We sent him the DVD and one hundred dollar bill
was inside and there was nothing on the DVD. You
know whatever, it was, right, but it all just goes
back into that same pot for him. For him, it's
the optics. And you gotta be able look control because
you have to understand if you're shaudor Sanders. This is
a big deal. Is that he is in what could
(31:06):
be the final year in the NFL, because if he
doesn't impress enough people in the off see he's a
fifth round pick, teams are gonna go. Okay, we watch
the drama in Cleveland. It didn't work we're not signing
the guy and the next and next year's playing in
the CFL, and it's hey, look at Shador Sanders playing
in the CFL. Try to find his way back to
Major League Baseball, right, Like, that's kind of where you're at.
(31:26):
He's got to understand that part of it that yeah, dude,
you're a young guy, but you could also be in
your last year in the NFL. And on some level
he's got to hope that Dylan gabriel he's got to
become Dylan Gabriel's biggest fan. And I mean this for
the fact that as of right now he's still number
three on the tail. Is that like he moved up,
Gabriel gets the start, might never see the light of day.
(31:49):
But in Gabriel's really terrible, then well you couldn't beat
him out. So what are we doing? Exit out about
a Fresca exit swollen domes. Just think of the stakes
for Chador Sanders are way higher than you think they are.
Time now to find out what's trending in the wide
world of sports. From a guy who told me before
the game, you know, Jason, if the Reds could find
a way to single off of home plate, they might
(32:12):
be able to get to Yoshinoba Yamamoto. It's Isaac Lowan Kron,
and he was correct, because that could be what we're
seeing right now.
Speaker 5 (32:19):
That is what just happened. Indeed, also marks the first
time you've allowed me to speak to you before a
show has started, So I appreciate that makes me feel
big time, big time.
Speaker 1 (32:30):
You're right, I say hi to you.
Speaker 5 (32:32):
I know, like you're the first person who has ever
come in to say hi to me, crossing the boundaries
of the door.
Speaker 1 (32:42):
So it's okay that I had notes for you on
your updates and things that I thought you could do better. Likes.
Speaker 5 (32:46):
Yeah, you know, after the first three or four pages
it became a little repetitive.
Speaker 1 (32:51):
Page six, Now, don't look away from me.
Speaker 5 (32:55):
About me, look at me Low and Kron anyway you
want a longer list of things I could two better
talk to my children. By the way, guys at game two,
the Cincinnati Reds.
Speaker 1 (33:05):
Wait, wait, your kids are calling me right now? Hang
on there, See how much I talked to Ilo on
Sunday morning. Talk about the talk about the speed dial.
Speaker 5 (33:15):
By the way, guys, the Cincinnati Reds indeed have the
bases loaded in the top of the sixth inning, one out,
the Dodgers leading the Reds three to two. Sal Stewart,
who had a two run single in the top of
the first inning off of Yoshinobu Yamamoto, is at the
plate right now. He just swung and missed at a slider,
so he faces account of one ball and two strikes now.
(33:37):
Going into this inning, Yamamoto had retired thirteen straight with
six strikeouts, but TJ. Friedel and Spencer Strider broke that
streak with back to back singles, and then it was
the former Dodger Gavin Lux with an infield single that
he skied off of home plate to load the bases.
Austin Hayes then hit into a force play, with Fridle
forced out at home. Right now, Stewart is at the
(34:00):
plate facing account of one and two. The bases loaded,
one out, top of the six, Dodgers up three to two,
and Yamamoto strikes out steared on an eighty one mile
an hour curve ball, so the bases loaded and two out.
With Ellie de la Cruz coming up to the plate again.
The Dodgers hold on to a three to two lead
on the top of the sixth inning, they lead the
(34:20):
series one nothing. Earlier, the Yankees forced to deciding Game
three with a four to three win over the Boston
Red Sox, Austin Wells the go ahead RBI single in
the bottom of the eighth. The Cleveland Guardians forced a
deciding Game three with a six to one win over Detroit.
Padres forced to decide in Game three with a three
to nothing victory over the Cubs at Wrigley Field. So again, Dodgers,
(34:41):
holding onto a three to two lead over Cincinnati, bases
loaded two outs top of the six inning Yoshinobu Yamamoto
with a count of zero to one against Ellie de
la Cruz after the Reds had the bases loaded with
no body out to begin this inning. Guys, back to you,
Thank you Elo.
Speaker 1 (34:58):
Jason Smith Mike Harmon live from the Fox Sports Radio Studios.
I'll tell you what that was a really you know,
I guess I could say, yeah, that was a horrendous
at back by Stuart because Allo did was throw that
curve in the dirt and he waved at it three times,
right like you have to be able to make him
throw it. For this is the reason why you know,
(35:20):
I peaked in baseball when I was twelve because I
couldn't make the other pitchers throw a curve for a strike.
I couldn't. I couldn't do that. But here's basses loaded,
one out after you nearly get a run, hit a
line drive to MOOKI bets wh who scoops it up
and throws home for the out. Uh you wave that?
Three pitches that just that don't even start in the
strike zone. It's not like they started the strike zone.
(35:40):
They started below his knees and he still just waved
at him. Defensive hitting man, hit the ball the right
field man. I'll wait. H So here's where we sit
right now. Dodgers lead the Reds three to two, bases loaded,
two outs. Ellie de la Cruz up top of the
sixth thning nitches the bullpen. Dodger bulpin says, get ready,
(36:03):
here we come. They're doing the joker. Wait till they
get a load of me. Get ready here we come
in to affect this game. But coming up next, we
got more baseball on the way, including a great, big
hot take off of one of the big games today.
That's next, Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (36:18):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app Fox.
Speaker 1 (36:29):
Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with My best friend
Mike Harmon. You know, we talked about the really bad
at bat that Stewart had last inning for the Reds.
Oh yeah, it was terrible. However, he made up for
it by committing an error at first base, allowing the
Dodgers to put runners at first and third with one
out in the bottom of the sixth inning. Trying to
throw to first on a ground ball, throws way behind
(36:52):
the pitcher, So now the Dodgers runners at the corners.
For show, Heyo Tani up three to two going for
the closer against the Reds. Keith a Hernandez continues the
postseason of living right. That's amazing. Horseshoe has to be
somewhere on is being walked through a metal detector. Uh,
dribble the ball up the third base line. It stays fair,
(37:12):
hits the base and bounces up and the third baseman
just looks at what am I gonna do? So we'll
keep you updated on this game. But time now for
the play of the day. Play the Day is brought
to you by tire Rack. For over forty years, tire
Rack's been helping customers find the right tires for how,
what and where they drive. Shipped fast and free backed

tire buying should be.
Speaker 6 (37:39):
Well.
Speaker 1 (37:39):
When you break a one to one tie with a
big home run and you force game three, you get
to be the play of the day.
Speaker 6 (37:47):
The next pitch swung and hit a ton decrye Field,
get a chance, go Bryan rookiell Sunday game winner up
the fully game leading solo shoot to the seats in
right and Cleveland's got up.
Speaker 1 (38:06):
Two to one way Guardians Radio Network on the call.
Part of an explosion of runs by the Guardians in
the eighth inning. They take a tight one one game
turn into a six to one win. So now we
get Game three tomorrow between the Tigers and the Guardians.
Still want to know why Casey Mize was lifted so early?
Three innings, sixty two bitches. That's it. Now, that's a
(38:28):
heavy workload, but still three innings. You didn't try to
bleed it out. He walked the leadoff man in the
fourth and that was it. Now, I gotta tell you,
I gotta be honest with you. Yeah, you know, because
I'm not gonna lie to you. I was feeling a
lot better today. Look, the Mets are out of the
playoffs right now, it's another day removed. Another sand was eaten,
and I thought teams are gonna get eliminated today. Clearly
(38:48):
nobody got eliminated. So okay, once we get out of
this round of the playoffs, I'll feel okay. So long
you were really excited that a couple of teams were
gonna go home. It's like, see, they didn't win any
more games of dings because I knew the Mets weren't
going to Wait, maybe they win game one with Nolan McClain,
but they don't win the other games because they have
nobody else. Can okay, come on? That was your guy.
He was until he couldn't get anybody out. The only
thing that was been king about King Tong has been
(39:10):
his era has been so high. So anyway, but I'm like, okay,
I just wanted to get in at that point, right,
I just want to get at that point, but I
was over it until I watched this bleeping I hate
watching the Guardians. They shouldn't be in the playoffs. They
shouldn't be there. You know why because when I see
the Mets with all what a great season offense for
for wan so to what Pete Alonzo a great season?
(39:31):
And I got to watch the bleeping Guardians and their
thirty first ranked team batting average in ops they can't score,
yet they find a way to ninety wins in the
playoffs and one game away from the next round.
Speaker 3 (39:44):
I go, what the hell?
Speaker 1 (39:45):
Man Like, they shouldn't even be in the playoffs. Not
that they're not a good team, that they haven't overachieved, no,
all of these things they also had. Guys, Yeah, you can't.
You can't. You can't make the playoffs with this, especially
when you're th in games midway through. But I mean
they cleared out the bullpen and it got everything right.
Your offense is absolutely abysimble. I mean you look at
(40:08):
you know, the teams. I'm gonna tell you this, Mike Carmen.
Let me tell you that they are ranked three okay,
thirty first in team batting average right and thirty first
in team ops. How bad are they? Batting average? How
bad are they? The four worst teams in Major League
Baseball batting average? The White Sox, Yeah, the Pirates, the Guardians,
(40:31):
and the Angels. Three of those teams combined for a
grand total of eight wins this season. Well, if they
hire Albert Poolholes, he hits for them. I mean, you
have one of the I mean these are three. These
are three teams that the season was over for them
in April. Yeah, I mean, and you're in the playoffs.
You hit this. It's so bleep and frustrating. Man, watch
(40:53):
it and to hear, Hey, you know, they just find
a way. They mesh together, they get well pitched games,
they hit just enough to collect. Yeah, blah blah blah.
They shouldn't even be in the playoffs. They had a
minus six run differential for the year, and they're in,
and they're here. They are one game away playing a
home game tomorrow to move on to the Alds. I mean,
that's what's happening right now. That's where they are. It's
(41:15):
so frustrating. I'm frustrated all over again. I'm like, today
was a good day. They're like got frustrated all over again.
But on the plus side. I mean you lost to
the pills. I mean they were plus one thirty Yeah,
yeah great, yeah thanks Brewers plus one seventy two, US
plus one forty four. Yeah, Dodgers plus one forty two.
(41:36):
And then the Padres were still thirty runs better than ye.
Shouldn't even shouldn't even be playing here. They are very fun.
Shouldn't even be named the Guardians. We got a big
update from Dodgers, Reds and a big NFL story. Next
Fox
