To Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Greetings, Welcome inside, Happy Friday.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
The Jason Smith Show with my base friend Mike Harmon,
Well Dressed Hoboat. For over forty years.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
Tire Rack's been helping customers find the right tires for how,
what and where they drive. Shipped fast and free, backed
by free road hazard protection with convenient installation options like
mobile tire installation. Tire rack dot Com is the way
tire buying should be. Well here we are Happy Friday
at least well, I mean, the Mets are losing to

(01:01):
the Rockies. Maybe Michael CONFORDO killed the Mets yesterday. Psychologically,
that has really been affecting you. We've been sitting waiting
for the uh the bell to ring for us, and
you just keep going.

Speaker 4 (01:13):
We're getting shut out by the Rockies. Boy, how I
envy their uniforms and we're being shut out by the Rockies.

Speaker 3 (01:20):
Michael Conforto, Yeah, broke the Mets. He killed the Mets.

Speaker 4 (01:24):
That guy looks like Willie Nelson in the front row.
So I mean, you got a lot of stuff going on.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
Yeah, no, it is. It is one of those nights.
It is absolutely one of those nights. Look as we're
gonna be looking ahead to the big Game two in
the NBA Finals tomorrow. We got Game two of the
Stanley Cup Final. Tonight, we have what is likely going
to be a Texas National Championship and college softball as
they are blowing out Texas Tech right now ten to three.

Speaker 3 (01:49):
Niga Cannedy is out of the game.

Speaker 1 (01:50):
They scored six runs off her in the first inning,
and you know, kind of a glass half full day
for her because Okay, they're gonna likely lose, but you
got another million dollars for next year, so there's that.
I think she's the big winner.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:04):
It also kind of shows if you keep going back
to the well with the same pitcher, well that's hitterest
kind of know what's going on, aren't they?

Speaker 1 (02:11):
I will tell you this, right, I'll tell you one
thing softball is that it doesn't matter how good a
pitcher is, right, if if you can, if you can
throw like like that, the uh the one Tennessee pitcher
that can throw seventy six seventy seven, right, Okay, if
you can, if you can master that, that's a real
difficult thing to catch up to, no matter what. But

(02:32):
no matter how good a pitcher you are, when you
see the same pitcher three days in a row, every
single pitch, eventually, guess what, they're gonna lock on you, Right,
That's the thing, Like, I see why you throw her
out there, Right, she's unbeatable. But even the best pitchers
when you see them three days in a row and
you see all her pitches live and it's the same

(02:54):
lineup that's now taking their eighth and ninth act bats
off of her in the last three days. Not well,
we saw early in the year, we're seeing her. You've
seen her three days in a row. That that's gonna happen, right,
no matter how good you are, that that's gonna happen.
I mean, are you not gonna go of course not,
You're gonna go with it, right, You need you needed
to go with her in game one. Obviously you had
to come back with her in game two because you

(03:14):
were short, you know, short of winning the championship. You
need to win that game. But now here you are
game three, and she just gets knocked all over the park.
Like I'll tell you that that no matter who you are,
they're gonna lock onto you when they see your stuff.

Speaker 3 (03:26):
Three straight down.

Speaker 4 (03:27):
The margins are lost, and there's the familiarity. You've seen
all the sequencing, right, you're taking pitches, you're seeing all
how how to work the bat, and you don't have
that many bullets in the arm. You just don't like Eventually,
the velocity's gonna be off, the placement's gonna be off,
whatever it is. And for Texas today, uh put up

(03:49):
a ten spot at this point as we watch, in
the bottom of the sixth but another million dollars.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
So in the end, it's not win.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
Yeah yeah, somebody. Okay, So here's your right, what would
you rather have? You could win the national championship or
get a million dollars?

Speaker 3 (04:06):
Yeah, give me the million dollars.

Speaker 4 (04:07):
Now, unless I had some bonuses tied to had we
won the national title.

Speaker 3 (04:13):
Oh you know what I mean that you had.

Speaker 4 (04:15):
Performance bonuses somewhere if hey, we're in a weird world,
so you can't tell me categorically no, yes, yes, or whatever.
I mean, you could go full uh flip the coin
and that and maybe be right, we don't know.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
We are in a really strange rule run so far.
To me, that was that's I mean that that beats
the crap out of my question earlier this week. Would
I take the Knicks going to the finals if my
car was to be stolen, which we got on that
would I be okay with my car being stolen if
it guaranteed the nix of the finals?

Speaker 4 (04:42):
And that was a big that's a big It's a
nice car. But I mean, yeah, the answers, yes, this
take my car. This is a tough one, man.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
I mean, you're you're talking about national championship, a lifetime
or a million dollars.

Speaker 3 (04:54):
That's that's a day.

Speaker 4 (04:57):
Well, because if they've won the national title, it also
does force every organization, every school to sit back and
ponder where the dollars and cents are flowing in college softball, right,
because hey, you paid a million bucks for a title
for this year. Yeah, okay, I had to add they

(05:17):
won it right there, you feel it, and it's like, well,
we paid a million dollars, so we were close. And
now we're getting into a lot of analysis and folks
trying to go through and put together their best assessment
of what each program put up cost wise.

Speaker 3 (05:33):
For the year. But obviously a lot of run for.

Speaker 4 (05:35):
Texas Tech, reaching heights heretofore unheard of, but falling short.
So speaking of money, right, and again it's a ten
to three Texas lead going to the top of this.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Texas still batting.
I will tell you.

Speaker 1 (05:52):
This, speaking of money, this is the original Friday night
news dump where it's like, hey, we want to rule
on something and we're gonna make sure that. Hey, by
the time Monday hits were past it.

Speaker 4 (06:04):
Oh, I thought you were gonna bring up the fact
that they were still talking to Connor Stallions.

Speaker 3 (06:07):
Look, you've still be locked in a room somewhere.

Speaker 1 (06:10):
No, but but this was we thought this was coming,
and now it's here. Judge Claudia Wilkin has approved the
long rumored deal between the NCAA and lawyers representing all
Division I athletes. Now schools can directly pay their athletes. Remember,
because it's all been, the nil era has all been. Hey,

(06:31):
through third parties, we can do it. Now schools can
directly pay their athletes. The NCAA is gonna also pay
nearly three billion dollars in back damages. But now each
school can pay twenty and a half million dollars to
their athletes. Football of course getting the largest part of that.
But now you have Now schools can absolutely just directly

(06:51):
pay their athletes, which they're.

Speaker 3 (06:54):
Hoping is going to.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
Oh, this is gonna stem the tide for all the
all the nil it's out of control.

Speaker 3 (06:59):
Yeah, good luck with that. Good luck, good luck.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
It's just nice that now the schools, hey, we can compete,
we can give money out because now what what what
this is like? Why is it such a big deal? Yes,
now all the D big D one schools can do this.
Now the schools that have a tough time with NIL
can at least be more competitive across the board. These
schools now that can pay. Okay, now we can do
it because some schools look the NIL era. If you

(07:24):
can succeed in the nil era, if if you can
get you can loosen the purse strings to get people
to pay your athletes. That's how you're winning, right, How
do you think Syracuse is suddenly winning in football? How
do you think Duke is suddenly doing well in football?
They figured out NIL and other schools like UCLA has
been hey, where the hell is the money?

Speaker 3 (07:41):
Where u c l A? Right?

Speaker 1 (07:42):
But now this is going to help those schools compete.
That's the big takeaway is that these schools out of
there having trouble, at least they'll be in the mix
now to get athletes and get It's not we have
to rely on guses used cars and hey, you know,
we're not really getting what it was in the past
because now nil's has gotten so big and all the
big donors are so mega donors, and you know, you
hear the sum of the money, like Cooper Flag, I

(08:04):
think what made ninety million dollars in NIL money last year.
So I mean, you're seeing this. This is gonna be
a big thing. But if you think this is suddenly
gonna tamp down stuff and hey we're getting more under control.

Speaker 3 (08:14):
Yeah, good luck with that. That's not happening.

Speaker 4 (08:16):
Yeah, Cooper Flag, what was an estimated twenty eight to
thirty whereas there's rookie contracts gonna be worth sixty two.

Speaker 1 (08:23):
Yeah, that's why she should have should have gone back
to school, should have gone back.

Speaker 4 (08:26):
It's just one of those things that kind of throws
Let me raise my hand for a second. Let's do
the math as we look at the rookie wage scales.
We certainly have talked about it a lot, going back
to the Caleb Williams situation. I'm curious in terms of
the two point eight billion dollars or thereabout that's going
to be allocated in damages, Like the rules of engagement changed.

(08:48):
Why are they eligible for money? I don't quite get that,
but hey, good for them. Get a couple of extra bucks.
Maybe if you took out student loans, it'll help you
defray that. Or you buy a car, maybe you buy
the stolen car of Jason Smith. Yeah again, you're listening
to the whole show. But all of this, say, say
what initial annual allotment twenty to twenty three million dollars

(09:10):
per school according to estimates effect July one, and it's
it's a big day, right for all these athletic directors
and the I mean, how many times did we hear
the hey just donate now for anything related?

Speaker 3 (09:26):
Clicked the button clicked the button, clicked the button on it.

Speaker 4 (09:28):
Now, hey, you know what, there's a cornerback that we've
been eyting.

Speaker 3 (09:32):
But he's gonna leave the city unless you donate.

Speaker 4 (09:35):
Now every dime, we'll go to the recruitment of this
young man.

Speaker 1 (09:39):
Now, look, let me let me just break this because
it is it is a lot of inside baseball. And
and look, I want to give you the right takeaways
of this, and this is that, Okay, schools are now
more competitive.

Speaker 3 (09:49):
But the big thing that the big bs.

Speaker 1 (09:52):
You remember an airplane when when when Elane tells everybody
the plane is lost, he goes, she goes, don't worry, everybody,
stay calm, and it comes up. Bs, We're all going
to be fined. Boom extreme bs, extreme bs.

Speaker 3 (10:05):
Now, part of.

Speaker 1 (10:05):
This in theory was to give the schools power to
create new rules that could limit the influence of boosters. Right,
this is exactly from the Associated Press recap of this story.
Starting this summer, any endorsement deal between a booster and
an athlete will be vetted to ensure it is for
a quote, valid business purpose rather than a recruiting incentive. Yeah, sure, well,

(10:30):
like I read this that, I go, do you really
believe that that the ink you're using to write this
story that people may print out is worth it. You
really think, oh, now we're getting control of that. Now
it's just twenty more million dollars that you're gonna be
able to put out there and give to give to people.
It's still out of control. It's just allowing these other
schools with nil trouble. Hey, we now have somewhat of

(10:53):
a seat of the table. Now, what it's going to
really be is that if school X is, hey, we're
doing great, and we have twenty million nil money, and
now we get twenty more million versus the other school,
it's say, well we have three million nil money, now
we have twenty million. Okay, we have forty million and
you have twenty three million. We still have that advantage
over you. That's the big thing. But to think this
is suddenly going to stop, Yes, we are going to

(11:14):
put that.

Speaker 3 (11:15):
No, it's not all because.

Speaker 1 (11:17):
The NCAA got so greedy, didn't think they'd ever have
to pay players, didn't think they'd ever lose in quarter
a few years ago.

Speaker 3 (11:23):
And this is why we are where we are because
we were so.

Speaker 1 (11:26):
Cocky and so arrogant, and we wanted to tamp down
and thought, these greedy players that want money and want stuff,
we want to make money off their name, image and likeness.
All they had to do was say, you know what,
if we sell something that's your name on it, we'll
give you money.

Speaker 3 (11:39):
That's all.

Speaker 1 (11:40):
That's all the schools had to agree. That's all the
ends he had to agree to. Hey, if it's something
personalized with their number on it, their name, we'll we'll
give money to that person. That's all anybody was looking for.
But now, because you were so cocky and arrogant and
thought we're always gonna win, you don't see that there's
an evolving a push out there that the world is
changing more towards player. Right now, some player benefits, it's

(12:01):
their fault we're here. So now they've got to navigate
this incredibly messy situation because, yeah, we couldn't see to
it because once we thought we would agree to it, it
would get a lot of drunk. Well, all you could
have tamped that down and instead, look where you are.
It's all your fault.

Speaker 4 (12:14):
Well, because you still have a mixed mixed plate so
to speak, of a cap coming through off this revenue share. Right,
So twenty, twenty million, twenty two, whatever that number is.
We'll say twenty nice and round. But that somewhere like
fifteen to seventeen is going to football. You don't think

(12:34):
there's going to be fights over salary caps and trusts
everything else.

Speaker 3 (12:40):
Yes, it's Friday night, lights come to light. Of course
football gets.

Speaker 4 (12:43):
And then you still have well we have nil payments
through this clearing house, so you've still got that. I'm like, well,
this is how we get around that cap so we
can still have a competitive advantage like this. This is
nowhere near an end point. It's a nice Friday dump
to say, Okay, this is great. I can't wait to
see what next legal briefs are filed.

Speaker 1 (13:03):
Yeah, look it's and and all schools are excited because
it it gives them extra money. It's like, oh, we're
giving you this extra twenty million dollars you can spend
right here it is, and then next year it'll just
be going. I'd be like the salary cap in the NFL,
go this year's twenty to twenty three million, Then it's
gonna be twenty five, then thirty million, then thirty five.
Then Godella's getting involved, and then suddenly big payments are
going out to people that said that that that broker

(13:25):
deals like, oh, it's good salary cap it's just going
up and up and up and up and up. Right,
So it's more money. Hey, more money's out there for
the kids. More schools can sit at the table because
they have this easily now illegally going right from school
to player. But if you think for a second this
is going to tamp that down, you are insane. You
are absolutely insane. Oh no, it's just.

Speaker 4 (13:45):
The next iteration in a long arduous process. Still the
fighting over whether these students athletes see what they did
there are employees of the school or not. So that's
the other wrinkle that's still really not resolved. Are we
just a bunch of mercenaries or we the Savannah Bananas
come to play a couple of Saturdays in the fall.

(14:08):
I mean, so next level. It's a nice announcement on
of Friday, but it just gets far more arguments and lawsuits.

Speaker 3 (15:53):
So what did I tell you yesterday?

Speaker 1 (15:55):
Every day for throughout the NBA Finals and beyond, we
are gonna get a big name mentioned in connection with
the Knicks coaching job.

Speaker 3 (16:06):
Right, We're gonna get one every cause.

Speaker 1 (16:08):
The Knicks are gonna enjoy this time where Hey, we're
just as big as the NBA Finals, our coaching search,
we're a big destination. Yes, we're gonna turn the page
from that incredible collapse against the Pacers to Hey, who's
gonna come lead us?

Speaker 3 (16:21):
Right?

Speaker 1 (16:21):
And I told you every day we're gonna get somehow
not interview like a calendar.

Speaker 3 (16:25):
I interview.

Speaker 1 (16:26):
Oh, you open one up every day and again there's
there's a chocolate, but the wrapping is of a different coach.

Speaker 3 (16:31):
Yeah. Oh I like that. I like that. We actually
did an advent calendar for Benny. Yeah, uh for the
best time. Yeah yeah.

Speaker 1 (16:37):
And you know, beginning it was, you know, we come,
we get get a treat out and he would get it,
and then after like the third day, he would like
get up in the morning, go down and just plod
and go.

Speaker 3 (16:45):
Hey, where's my where's my treat? Where's my Advent calendar treat?
Come on?

Speaker 4 (16:49):
Did he break through all of it like most people
do with Advent calendars filled with candy, which is how
we start every year, and so I December fourth ate
them all. Well, the thing is that the smart thing
we did was get one that was that was a rapper.
So it's not like you could smell it and tell oh,
like after like two days in a row, he's like, hey,
we started every day with this right, which.

Speaker 3 (17:07):
Trained him quickly. Then that's good, there is it? Oh? Well,
when it's food motivated, Well that is true.

Speaker 1 (17:13):
So yeah, I told you every single day you're gonna
get it and not interviewed because the Knicks can't here's
the thing.

Speaker 3 (17:18):
The Knicks can't be.

Speaker 1 (17:19):
Told no bye by a lot of people, and really
one person can't tell them no because then suddenly it's
what's wrong with the job.

Speaker 3 (17:26):
Is it a destination?

Speaker 1 (17:28):
You can't have that, right, you can't be told no,
But being mentioned is absolutely what's going to happen as
the Knicks figure the figure their stuff out.

Speaker 3 (17:36):
Right.

Speaker 1 (17:37):
So yesterday was the first day and we had Rick Patino. Okay,
Rick Patino who said, no, no interest. I coached the
next time out there.

Speaker 3 (17:44):
Okay. It's a good start to start out with, though,
big names.

Speaker 4 (17:49):
Showing out, throwing out first pitches, showing up forward side,
wearing his Miami Vice.

Speaker 1 (17:54):
Su Yeah, the bottle of red, bottle of what. Yeah, No,
it's all great today. Jason Kidd, who yet that is
still under contract with the Dallas Mavericks.

Speaker 3 (18:06):
Details.

Speaker 1 (18:07):
So Mark Stein, friend of the show, who was joined
us earlier this week, had the report that the Knicks
potentially would like to talk to Jason Kidd. They would
need the Mavericks permission to do this. Now, let me
just say one thing before I give you my big take,
all right, and tell me what. Uh, The Mavericks are
still really bleeping pissed that the Knicks just came in

(18:29):
and basically swiped Jalen Brunson out from under them, right
that the you know what when Leon rose when they
had the big Knicks contingent that went to the started
going to the games when he was gonna be a
free agent, right, Rick Brunson was gonna bring bring his
son in.

Speaker 3 (18:43):
Right. So the Mavericks are really pissed. They're really really pissed.

Speaker 1 (18:47):
And are they gonna really give permission to the Knicks
to talk to Jason Kidd because it's not like Jason
Kidd is like, hey, I got to get.

Speaker 3 (18:54):
Out of here.

Speaker 2 (18:54):
Man.

Speaker 3 (18:54):
It's like, oh, no, Cooper flag is coming. I'm feeling
feeling pretty good.

Speaker 4 (19:00):
I mean, all the interviews he did after they won
the lottery, No, you know, the kid from Duke because
he can't say his name, no, no, no, you can
talk about it, and you know, well that kid from.

Speaker 1 (19:09):
Dukes you know, no, it's and that's why it's like, okay,
so he's feeling okay, do you really? I mean, I
would look, there's things i'd be so I was I'd
be more surprised if the if the Mavericks said yes
than I was the Pacers coming back to winning last night.
I am more surprised about that than that. If than
if this act, if the Pacers saying yeah, sure, go ahead,

(19:29):
because I'm telling you man, the Mavericks Nation is going
to just absolutely employ. So we steal a point guard
who really could have maybe brought us the title. Oh
now you let him take our coats? Okay, all right, great,
now that that's wonderful.

Speaker 3 (19:41):
Maybe they don't love Jason Kidd though, that's good.

Speaker 4 (19:45):
They love what the next iteration just Cooper flag love
Jason Kidd? If they did, well, how about that there's
a question, Hey find a number for Cooper Flagg or
a member of his family.

Speaker 3 (19:55):
What's he saying about?

Speaker 1 (19:58):
If they didn't Uh, if they didn't like it, he
would have been gone.

Speaker 3 (20:03):
Right.

Speaker 1 (20:03):
If they didn't like it, he would have been gone.
They would have found a way to move on and
bring somebody else in, right, So that that that's not
that's not happening, right, I mean really really, it's like, oh,
now you want.

Speaker 3 (20:12):
Us to do this.

Speaker 1 (20:12):
This is like uh, if you if a guy breaks
up with a girlfriend breaks up with a guy to
date somebody else, right, and it's like, okay, you know
that that's cool, and then like, uh, you know, maybe
like a year later, the guy goes back to the
guy the girl broke up with to say, hey, just
want to know that new girl you're dating.

Speaker 3 (20:34):
Yeah, I'd like permission to date her. I like to
date her now. Yeah she's great.

Speaker 1 (20:37):
This you know, your old girlfriend is great, but this
is I'm excited now I want to go date her.
And he says, yeah, sure, go ahead, that's fine, that's fine,
that's fine, go ahead.

Speaker 3 (20:47):
It's not happening. Not happening.

Speaker 4 (20:48):
Well, it's just the curiosity, right, What kind of compensation
would the Mavericks be and Nico be looking for in return?
I mean, because you already traded off a lot of
first first round picks, so you know, to have that
giant pile of those for the next you know, half
decade plus in bringing Bridges in.

Speaker 1 (21:06):
But it's worth the conversation. It's not gonna happen. Now,
here's my big take on it. Okay, if you're really
gonna do this, right, we kind of joked around about
it last night. If you're, if you're, if you're now,
if you're the Mets, and if you're the Mets, Mets,
if you're the Knicks, and you're saying, hey, Jason kidd,
we have to decide if we want to go talk
to him, think bigger, right, Jason, kid's a good coach.

(21:29):
Think bigger, right, we joked around last night, sad Hey,
this is when Steve Kerr decides to come coach Nick
and he bring Steph Curry with him.

Speaker 3 (21:35):
Right, No, but think bigger. I'm the Knicks. What am I?
What do I do? I say?

Speaker 1 (21:39):
Okay, Well, obviously Steve Kurr is not gonna leave. He's
got everything going there. He's gonna stay with Golden State
until he wants to step back and then you know,
and retire or run, do something and then go back
to broadcasting. But you know what I do. And and
if if you're okay with thinking, you can get Jason
Kidd from the Mavericks.

Speaker 3 (21:57):
You call the heat for Eric Spolster.

Speaker 4 (21:59):
I was just gonna say, go down those long tenured guys.
You call the heat for sport look the guy.

Speaker 1 (22:04):
Honestly, he and Steve Kurr two best coaches in the
NBA outside of barn Stop. If you say Doc Rivers
name one more time, Doc Rivers one, don't don't stop stop.
I can I found out. I can have you sports
talk radio arrested. If you say something really gonna put
me in radio jail.

Speaker 3 (22:22):
Yeah, radio jail you'll be in radio jail. You can't.
I can. What's the name of the doc rivers? Absolutely
have you arrested? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (22:31):
But uh but if you're thinking I'm serious, If you
think so, go get Eric Spolster, right, because again the guy,
he and Steve Kerr the two best coaches in the NBA.

Speaker 3 (22:41):
Right.

Speaker 1 (22:41):
Eric Spolster has a resume you absolutely want. He is
still considered a younger head coach because he got the
gig when he's he's been there almost twenty years. But
look how successfully he Look how successfully he is in
the playoffs with teams that aren't any good spots. Has
been able to figure out teams with big egos and
and big contracts and that are disappoint that overachieved, that underachieved.

(23:02):
There's nothing the guy can't do. So I say, Okay,
Eric Spolster, Is Miami.

Speaker 3 (23:07):
Set to win? No? Are they close to winning? No?

Speaker 1 (23:09):
Their era is. Who knows what's gonna happen the next
few years with Miami.

Speaker 3 (23:13):
Just reside Tyler Hero, you got that going? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (23:15):
Good luck him and his bucket hat. Yeah yeah, good
luck that. Thirty eight wins. That's great, thirty eight wins
and you'll sneak in into the seven to ten round
of the playoffs. If if you're really gonna go big
game hunting, you call Pat Riley and go, hey, Pat,
we got some stuff on you when you faxed in
your resignation in the mid nineties.

Speaker 3 (23:30):
So you're gonna let us talk to Spolstra.

Speaker 1 (23:31):
We're gonna let the whoa, whoa, whoa look a man,
Pat doesn't watching detective shows again.

Speaker 3 (23:37):
That's the kind of thing. It's like, hey, I know
what you get. I got stuff. Find it. It's a
big bluff, right, It's a big bluff. But that's when
you came over from the Rats squad. We know what's
going on.

Speaker 1 (23:47):
Man. I know they did that in Department Q on
Netflix where they just see it. We have some stuff
on we have some stuff on you.

Speaker 2 (23:52):
You know.

Speaker 1 (23:52):
I like about Department Q. They say urinal urinal, and
I'm like, oh my.

Speaker 3 (23:56):
God, that's pretty good.

Speaker 1 (23:57):
Favorite part is that an urno because they have there
it's a detective show and they have their office in
the basement of the where they had like showers and
their urinals and toilets, and.

Speaker 3 (24:08):
People come down and they say, is that a uranal?
And that's how they say it not a urinal? Is
that a urinal? I'm like, oh my god, I didn't
know you could say the word like that. That's fantastic.
Now you'll never stop using the word. No, I'm gonna
say it like that all the time.

Speaker 1 (24:21):
Yeah, but you say, okay, hey, Spolster knows I'm not
close to winning. I'm not close to getting my next
big NBA superstar player. Jimmy Butler is gone, and now
you know, how are we gonna rebuild? Are we going
to convince someone to come here and take let and
and take a lot of money. How are we gonna build?
The Knicks are ready and I want to go win again.
It's been a while since I won. And I know

(24:42):
again I don't pat Riley sure as hell doesn't want
to do the Knicks any favors. But if you're gonna
call Dallas, why not call them by Miami heat? Why
not call because this, I think is a great strategy
for the Knicks because you can say, hey, we want
to go biggest.

Speaker 3 (24:55):
Of big game hunting.

Speaker 1 (24:55):
Because you get told no by the teams, that's okay,
that's that's not that's not Hey, the Knicks look bad
because hey, you get permission to talk to Spolster, and
he says, no, you perished to talk to Jason Kidney.
He says, no, go to those big teams, because it
would be Hey, we're not gonna allow you permission. It's
not gonna happen. And clearly there's ways to make it happen.
There's trades that could happen. There's a coaching I really
would like to go. I'd like this opportunity. Pat Riley

(25:16):
won't do the next any favors. But if you're gonna,
if you're gonna do this, don't limit yourself. Go for
the brass ring. Go to the top.

Speaker 3 (25:24):
Nick, call Miami.

Speaker 1 (25:25):
And say we want Eric Spolstra and and and figure
out a way.

Speaker 3 (25:29):
To make it happen.

Speaker 1 (25:30):
Like if you if you're gonna go down this one,
go big man, Go as big as absolutely large as
you can.

Speaker 4 (25:35):
Now based on my quick googling, he's in year two
of an eight year extension.

Speaker 1 (25:42):
Yeah, we'll pay all the money by then. He has
dealt with pat Riley.

Speaker 4 (25:46):
To your point of all these years, I don't know
that you gotta go full Hey, we know what we
know about you within the that's a whole other piece
to it. But if he's been able to work alongside
pat Riley and make things work.

Speaker 3 (25:59):
He can put up with Dolan.

Speaker 4 (26:01):
I mean that's a walk in the park, right, I mean,
because he'll be an absentee owner for a ton of it.
You look at dealing with Leon Rose and you've got
a roster that thought it was assembled. Well maybe it was,
maybe it wasn't. We'll never know because Tom Thibodeau didn't
use it. So you have that giant question mark hanging

(26:21):
over where you're at as a franchise. Again, compensation is
one thing, but the trade compensation is more difficult. You're
in conference, does that matter? Maybe a little bit angled
to that. But yeah, if you're going to make calls
outwardly to go and try to poach somebody, yeah, go
big game hunting, whether it's the collegiate level or the

(26:44):
pro level. You got your eye on a particular assistant.
Same thing. I mean, we've been joking about longest tenure
because Billy Donovan's now third after Tom Thibodeau's dismissal. He's
third in Chicago behind Kerr and Spoilstra.

Speaker 3 (26:59):
Yeah, you out.

Speaker 4 (27:00):
Topsy Turvy and the coaching world is and that he's
still the memory remains, like all these other coaches of
the year have been fired and moved on, maybe be
moved on from by a second team in that that timing.
But sure I like it, you know, and you're you're
only partially speaking as a as a Knicks honk there No,
because we know what I could say, Hey, how about

(27:23):
uh Spolstra and uh.

Speaker 1 (27:25):
We'll send you Karl Anthony Towns. How about that? Hey,
you gotta get a star players, you right, you gotta
start player. Look at me, I'm making I'm making things out.

Speaker 4 (27:31):
You just want to get rid of You're just still
wishing you had the timestone. I got to get a
turned back for that trade, and Hartenstein would come back,
and Divigenzo would come back, and Julius Randam would come back.

Speaker 3 (27:46):
And Obi Toppin would come back, and Doc Rivers back.
No stop, I can have you arrested now. I think
he went further back in the timeline than I did.

Speaker 1 (27:55):
The security guard outside, I can have him come in
and take you out in handcuffs.

Speaker 3 (27:59):
I mean, now, it's those plays. So you're saying I
would go missing with the Mets offense. Yeah, yeah, apparently, Yeah,
that's exactly what's going on.

Speaker 1 (28:07):
But you know, think big, right, don't don't think small,
think big, and not that Jason Kidd is small. But
if this is I mean calling him small, go well
he is. He is not as taller than you. He is,
but not by much. I mean he's six 's one, yeah,
but I mean, you know, okay, so he's three.

Speaker 3 (28:20):
It really doesn't take a whole lot to be taller
than the lot of us. I mean, the only thing
you guys have in common is no hair.

Speaker 1 (28:25):
There was uh well, neither of us.

Speaker 3 (28:29):
Neither us is coaching right now. Were you ever part
of something called Triple j What do you mean he's
not coaching? Listen, the Mavericks aren't playing, he's not coaching,
but he's still their coach. He's always coaching. Yeah, yeah,
if you're a coach, you're always coaching.

Speaker 4 (28:43):
Hey, you know what, you could have buttered that bread
a little more efficiently, But go.

Speaker 3 (28:48):
Call the heats.

Speaker 1 (28:48):
I'm putting that out in the universe, and I'm taking
the doc rivers out. I'm putting that in and taking
doc rivers out. I'm taking that out, not the hope
pokey as.

Speaker 3 (28:57):
No, I can take it off this in take that out. No,
I could take it out.

Speaker 4 (29:00):
Looks so long as he's here, Doc Rivers is like
the sort of damn akle Frostburg's going to radio jail
for suggesting Doc Rivers. Does that mean they would does
that mean he gets a vacation and authorizing this?

Speaker 1 (29:13):
Any team would call the Bucks and say, hey, we'd
like permission. Yes, okay, oh really yes, go ahead, but
we could.

Speaker 3 (29:21):
Work out it. No, no, no, go just talk. Just
go ahead and talk to him. Just go talk to him,
Go talk to him, Go talk to him.

Speaker 1 (29:26):
That's what they should instead of that ridiculous what what
they say a couple of weeks ago?

Speaker 3 (29:30):
Oh, they're hoping that Doc Rivers. His influence is the thing, you.

Speaker 1 (29:34):
Know, watching what's on What's what's on the television, you know,
watching the games. I'm like Kathy Bates and misery. Don't
you all have amnesia? He didn't get out of the car.
What don't you all insane? Don't you watch how bad
your team is? The last vin don't you want to watch?

Speaker 3 (29:49):
Like? Can we make that a pay per view of it?
I'd pay money for that.

Speaker 4 (29:53):
I'm gonna pay money for Ozzie's last concert, you know,
what give me an add on that I could watch
doc trying to convince Giann.

Speaker 3 (29:59):
Is just exit out bout a fresca exit swallowing down.

runner in scoring position will be there first with a
runner in scoring position since the twenty.

as six in the first off Of.

Speaker 3 (35:25):
Kennedy which.

Speaker 1 (35:25):
Wow but like we said, earlier LIKE i, said at
every level of, Softball i've seen. It no matter how
good of a pitcher you, are when you can take
that many at bats, offer especially three days in a,
row you're gonna solve.

Speaker 3 (35:37):
Her it's gonna. Happen familiarity brings.

Speaker 4 (35:39):
Contempt it also brings the ability to force a picture
out of a game very. Fast how often do we
see that in Any walklet's like we watch in series,
right a lot of advantages get taken away based on
seeing the different wrinkles and point, Counterpoint and here can't
get past the first.

Speaker 3 (35:59):
Five runs in the first you know what she's gonna.
Throw your doing film, work you're knowing your. Tendencies, YEAH
i get. It she's that.

Speaker 1 (36:05):
Good of course you want to put her, out especially
gave her a million dollars today we're gonna put but
three days in a, row it's gonna.

Speaker 4 (36:11):
Happen she had thrown six hundred and eighty six consecutive
pitches dating back to the start of The Super.

Speaker 3 (36:17):
Regional, YEAH i.

Speaker 1 (36:18):
Mean look in, softball you can do, that like you
can you can go like you. Don't you don't lose
a lot as far off your off your velocity because
you get do because it's a different motion and you,
know when you're throwing, underhand it's not the same thing
as a major league. Pitcher it's it's it's completely different,
obviously but you don't lose that as much as it's
more of the familiarity knowing where your pitches, are knowing
where the locations, are knowing where it's like, eventually if

(36:40):
you go if you go into a batting, cage, right
And i've done this, before like go into a batting
cage and hit curveballs, only, right that's all like the
curveball only batting. Cage, eventually after like the first fifteen
or twenty THAT i weigh, At i'll start making contact with.
Them but that's just Because i've just seen fifteen in a.
Row like I'my, hey the first two.

Speaker 3 (36:57):
Days and you know what the next one, is she might.

Speaker 1 (36:59):
Be she might be untouchable unless you're making the bad
mistake Of kelly leaking it and not throwing the intentional
walk pitch where it should. Be, uh you know that's
a you, know that's a. Thing but obviously you KNOW i,
mean and so now this is the first time they got.
It that's just the way it, goes and sull.

Speaker 3 (37:16):
FORTH i appreciate this line in the write.

Speaker 4 (37:18):
Up not even the support from Former Texas tech football
Star Patrick mahomes and his wife could get them over the.

Speaker 3 (37:25):
Toime i'm, Gonna i'm, Gonna i'm gonna throw some. Pitches
i'm Gonna i'm gonna throw overhand a little. Bit it's
gonna be hard And i'm gonna throw. It So i'll
just wear just wear My Texas tech. HERE i still have.
It it's gonna be. Good just watch me AND i own.
Money Lookham.

Speaker 4 (37:38):

Man i'm all for whatever you, need whatever's working for
you to, win go, ahead feed off. That but don't
sit here and come out and, say, oh we're being. Disrespected,
no it's just not enough people are picking you to
win around in the playoffs than you would. Expect, okay first,
round nobody, cared, right second, round everybody picked The calves
because The calves have won sixty three. Games they were
the best team in The. East, oh but we're being Disrespect,

(39:42):
No you're not being. Disrespected they're picking the team they
thought was. Better oh The, knicks and The knicks are more.
Popular they were the better team than you in the regular.
Season of course people are gonna pick The. Knicks The
thunder were better than, you and the regular, season of
course people are gonna pick The. Thunder this is not a.
District it's not like people are, Saying, oh The pacers
don't belong. HERE i don't know how they got. Here you,
know they're cheating. Somehow this is just no, teams you're

(40:04):
playing against our, favorite so more teams are gonna pick.
Them stop with this disrespect and the media is disrespecting.
You it's not, happening, Right it's not disrespect when someone
simply is picking another team to win a game or a.
Series but the patients want to wear this badge, like,
oh we have been wronged in the eyes of people. Everywhere,
no no one's wronging. You, yeah but that gets everybody

(40:26):
to play a little bit.

Speaker 4 (40:27):
Better from the overrated comment of thirteen voters out of
the ninety that, submitted which is twenty percent of the.
