(00:51):
We are ordering pizza. Yeah, opening night, and we have
a football game for real. And is more the things
change the more or they stay the same. The story
of this game so far Lion's mistakes, my carpet. Lions
are gonna lie in Lions.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
One huge call and when the lead coming out of
halftime is what did you do right? When your coach
leads in successful fake punts and that's the lead stat
that they want to throw up for your squad. I
start to cringe a little bit. And then he gets
on the sideline and your sideline reporter gets it and
(01:28):
he starts talking like he's doing a WWE shoot interview.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
It's stat's Dan Campbell. I mean, he's not he's not
he's not a shrinking violence. But it wasn't a we
need to be able to make sure that we convert
on third down. I'm sorry, can you hear me? I'm
going to like, he's not.
Speaker 3 (01:42):
We gotta get after it. Just rugs Patrick Mahomes. He's
not gonna.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
He's not gonna Alice Cooper's way in Wayne's world. Actually
it's Milwauk, which is no, he's he's gonna do Dan
Campbell things.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
Yeah, he's gonna.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
But two big mistakes. Right now, we are early in
the third quarter. The Chiefs lead the Lions fourteen to seven.
So much to get to you from this game. No
Travis Kelce for the Kansas City Chiefs. No Chris Jones.
We know this the story of the game so far.
Two mistakes by the Lions, who have played pretty well
against this Chief's offense. That is missing its biggest cog
(02:15):
in the wheel. Marvin Jones's fumble deep in Chiefs territory
in the first half was rough because this is.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
When the Lions are going in.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
They're going to retake the lead at fourteen to seven
or at least ten to seven, and instead coughs it up.
All right, turnovers happen. You understand, final minute of the half.
This is a seven to seven game, and it's going
exactly how how he told you was gonna go. And
this is look and it's not just us, but you
watch the first half of Week one NFL games the
last few years, they are very difficult. They are sloggy,
(02:48):
they are sloppy because first team offenses don't get enough
time in real game time environment, so it takes a
little bit for the game to get going. You have
a seven to seven game in the final minute of
the first half and Mahomes has the ball and he
completes a pass that is three, probably near four yards
short of the first down on the chief side of midfield.
(03:10):
So the Chiefs are facing a fourth and four at
or fourth and close to four, a long three. Let's
say it's a long three fourth and a long three
on their side of midfield. It just so happens on
the Lion's luck. The first flag of the first half
is thrown and it's a holding penalty on the Chiefs,
and Dan Campbell accepts it, which is a stunning move
(03:33):
because what are you doing, right? It's fourth and four.
It's not like the Chiefs are rolling up all kinds
of points here and they're hot. Fourth and four a
minute to go in the first half. They're punting away
to ye. They're not saying, hey, we're gonna go for it.
Their offense is yet to click. They're not going to
go forward. But for some reason, Dan Campbell accepts the penalty,
(03:53):
and then you watch Mahomes convert that long third down,
giving them second life. Three plays later, they're in the
end zone on a touchdown pass to Blake Bell, who
I told you I had him right as my number
one tight end this week. So that's seven points is
on Dan Campbell. I don't understand why he took that penalty.
It's fourth and almost four yards ago from the Chiefs
(04:15):
side of midfield. In a seven to seven game, it
should be seven to seven at half time because what
the Chiefs would have likely done is we're gonna punt,
We'll call time out. Maybe at the ball back near midfield,
kick a field goal to go up ten to seven,
and instead Dan Campbell puts those seven points on the board.
Why are you giving mahomes another chance?
Speaker 3 (04:33):
But like, even if they bring the offense out and
they go for an on fourth down, they still have
to convert and you still are forcing the issue, right,
they still have to go make an additional sequence of
plays unless they can get it all and hit the
jackpot on a big playdown field, which really hasn't been
there much all night. Right, we saw one to MVS
that was it like that. Otherwise it's been get the
(04:55):
ball out, Let guys make plays, try to create some space.
You see what happens, and we talked about it last
night a lot when Travis Kelsey's not on the field,
it's bogged down. I know to start the game as
I was en root here to the Fox Sports radio
studios and you hear there's the handoff to Clyde Edwards.
(05:15):
Lalair Oh, fantasy owners are salty about that. But then
you had the great sequence of drives right the Lions,
including that fake punt, which hey, it goes right for you,
and you get a little momentum and you go on
along protracted fourteen play ninety one yard drive. Well, the
Chiefs answer thirteen plays right back, and then you're motoring
(05:38):
because what are you doing when you're looking at the lines.
You're also trying to keep Patrick Mahomes on the sideline right,
and still trying to figure out your shiny new toys, right,
Jamiir Gibbs, you've seen some success, David Montgomery. You and
I were talking a little pre show of the mix
and match, and you must really not trust Jamir Gibbs
anywhere near pass protection if he's not seeing the football.
(06:01):
So all of that to set up the play which
became an extra touchdown going into halftime.
Speaker 1 (06:09):
It was really really tough luck in the first half
for the Lions. However, sometimes luck changes. In a second

Speaker 3 (06:31):
Well, we are going.
Speaker 1 (06:32):
To be a potential extra point away from this game
being tied. As we talk about all the things the
Lions didn't do well on the your Lions turn over
my Lions. Hey, super Bowl Lions, super Bowl Lions. I
told you Jet's Lions, super Bowl. The extra point crying.
The extra point is up and good. The Lions have
(06:53):
tied the game against the Chiefs fourteen fourteen? Now, how
did this happen? This is like doubly I'm doubly. I
feel doubly fortunate with this last play because, hey, remember
last night I told you I'm taking the lines to
win this game.
Speaker 3 (07:05):
Yeah you did.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
I'll take the five points, but I don't need him
because the Lions are winning this game. I hemmed in
had so much today. Do I play Kadarius Tony?
Speaker 3 (07:13):
Right? Do I play Cadarius Tony? Do not?
Speaker 1 (07:15):
Do I play Cadarius Tony or not? I don't know
how many snaps is he really gonna get? No, Travis Kelsey,
I said, no, I gotta sit him. It's too much unknown,
and I'll wait and see how things go for Sunday.
Patrick Mahomes looking at Canarius Tony for the second time
in the game. Only everybody's getting looks. The Chiefs have
had like eleven guys.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
First half.
Speaker 1 (07:36):
Yeah, a pass across the middle that is in Tony's hands.
There is nothing, nothing ill at ease with this play.
There's no defensive back coming, There's no defensive back right
on him. Canarius. Tony has about a yard and a
half separation from the linebacker and the ball just hits
him as he's running across the field, bounces off his
(07:56):
shoulder pads into the waiting arms of a Lions dB
who takes it in all the way for a six
pick six. Brian Branch rookie takes it into the house
for a touchdown, the pick six tying this game at
fourteen apiece. Lions, Ye, Lions, here come my Lions. Lions, Lions, Lions, Lions, Lions, Lions, Lions, Lions, Lions,
(08:20):
Lions line They're back.
Speaker 3 (08:23):
Just like that, the Lions win this game.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
The Jets magic number for the number one seed overall
goes down.
Speaker 3 (08:28):
I mean, come on, goes down. No, you were depressed
as the game went into halftime. I walked into this
into the Dan Cambs for taking that. I'm starting cursing
at him in the back or like, what the hell
is he yelling with blank?
Speaker 1 (08:42):
And it was blank and stupid? Why are you Why
are you taking that Battlety? They're gonna punt the ball
back to you. But now the Lions they get the
first at DJ. Clearly the football gods extending an olive
branch to the Lions for that pick sick, I hate
you and everything. Clearly the stop. Clearly the Lions banking
(09:07):
at the right branch on that play. J I no DJ,
turn into the.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
Life of Brian. Pretty good. That was pretty good.
Speaker 1 (09:19):
I see that.
Speaker 3 (09:19):
I'll always look on the bright side of life. Look,
the ball's in Tony's hands. It's one of those I
want to see another angle of Was he here in footsteps?
Was it the all right, I'm gonna need to make
a step here, and this guy is gonna blow me up,
right because Branch catches the ball and he's off to
the races. But it's say that is he getting blown up?
Speaker 2 (09:41):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (09:41):
I think he was looking that he was trying not
to be on the next episode of Jacked Up, you.
Speaker 1 (09:45):
Know, And this is and this is what hey come
on too soon for jack Up? And this is why,
you know, I say to myself, I'm really glad I
didn't put it Aristonian, because how many more snaps is
he really going to see after that play.
Speaker 3 (09:56):
Oh no, you're fired. Really, how many more snaps? I mean,
that's an easy pitch. How many more I beat that
ball in and just go off to the race. You're
coming across the middle of the.
Speaker 1 (10:04):
Field, and and and you're wide open, and and the
ball just like I don't know if he was unexpected
to get the ball and he didn't think it was
coming to him. You know, they had a couple of
double screen working. It was fantastic. And he goes to
it just bounces off his shoulder. He does look like
he looks up the field a little bit. Yeah, he
branch there.
Speaker 3 (10:24):
Yeah. I don't. I don't know he's afraid of getting popped.
I don't.
Speaker 1 (10:28):
I don't know how many morse really, I don't know
how many more snaps you get in this game? If
you are if you are Canarios, Tony.
Speaker 3 (10:33):
Now one of the big things here. Uh. And we
talked about the Lions and they've been able to get
some pretty decent pressure on Mahomes. Uh. He's had to
get the ball out pretty quickly. And these receivers are
not winning. They're not winning they're one on one matchups.
So right now it's a how do we throw somebody open?
Even Mahomes getting frustrated winging the ball in the towards
the end of the first half, he just wing one downfield.
(10:56):
It was like a punt. It's like he used to
play in the street.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
It was a fifty to fifty play and the defensive
back was a split second away from picking that ball off,
but instead it goes as a completion two plays later
there in the end zone, right, fifty to fifty play.
Speaker 3 (11:11):
That did that.
Speaker 1 (11:11):
But you know, but look, Mahomes makes those plays. Sure,
you know you try. I trust Mahomes to throw those
fifty fifty Wilson to throw those fifty to fifty balls.
Speaker 3 (11:20):
Zach Wilson's got to get back on the field before
he's throwing anything. But we got ourselves a new ball game.
And those that bet the over at fifty three or
fifty five, depending on when you bet it related to
the Dravis Kelcey injury news, you know, you're a bit
more ecstatic off the free seven that you just got
off the Lions defense. Fantasy owners who were really gutsy rejoice.
(11:45):
But it's been a bit of a slog here, and
you thought after that end of the first half touchdown
with getting the ball after deferring to the second half.
Perhaps got a little momentum you can get something going
instead some more struggles another incompletion here uh and and
Gardner Johnson starting to chirp a bit. Dan Campbell chest
(12:08):
is out now trying to show Robert Sala you think
you've got the puffiest chest, look at me.
Speaker 1 (12:14):
It would be a Dan Campbell Robert Sala midfield fistfight
would be a close.
Speaker 3 (12:19):
Well, I am cond that Sala actually has someone's spray
paint well his top on. I don't. I don't think
that's actual fabric.
Speaker 1 (12:26):
I think Campbell had a longer NFL career. His body
probably is not a little bit he got warm down. Yeah,
you know, Sala I think stopped playing after Northern Michigan,
so I think he I think he more fresher.
Speaker 3 (12:36):
Yeah, I can definitely take Roberts was a grinder. He
was a guy who loved as a player, Jets and
the certainly you know he would be well Randy the
Ram if he were out there and trying to battle.
Right now, Sala's like Dylan Brooks fake, Oh stop that,
it's not even the coach, it's all Aaron Rodgers all
that to see the way he uses those F words.
I don't want to go. I don't want to get mad. Yeah,
(12:58):
he curses, he runs, and he makes crazy analogy.
Speaker 1 (13:02):
He's like, yeah, if they REMA, if they made Wolf
of Wall Street too, like Robert Sala would probably be
in a really big role. Hey, we need somebody that
can say the F word really well.
Speaker 2 (13:09):
And that's me.
Speaker 1 (13:10):
Hey, let's get that guy from the Hard Knock Show.
Let's tell oh, try to get in the car. He's
got visions of Aaron Rodgers, just hey, is.
Speaker 3 (13:19):
That really you man? Are you really with us? Are you?
Are you really? You're really now superimposing Robert salads head
on to Jonah Hill in that famous scene. Is that
really what you're doing? Is that what you're doing? There?
Speaker 2 (13:30):
Are you on this team?
Speaker 3 (13:31):
For real?
Speaker 2 (13:32):
And I do I have to do another year with
Zach Wills?
Speaker 3 (13:35):
That I get. You couldn't put him another scenes Mike Joe, Yeah,
well this is true. I can't do it.
Speaker 1 (13:40):
Yeah, Twitter, and how about a fresco Mike gets swollen
down the Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carmon.
Speaker 2 (13:46):
So there you go.
Speaker 3 (13:48):
All the things the Lions needed to do right.
Speaker 1 (13:51):
They have found a way to temporarily turn the tide
there getting the football back now after stopping the Chiefs
on a three and out fourteen fourteen, eight and a
half to go. My Lions, my super Bowl team from
the NFC, My Lions who I picked to win tonight.
You get on the field you did on the field.
Speaker 3 (14:11):
I'll tell you what on the Chiefs offensive set that
we just completed here, that pocket is getting awfully muddy,
awfully muddy right now.
Speaker 1 (14:20):
You think if I call Vegas right now, let's say
you want to cash me out my Lions super Bowl
slash winning tonight picked, they give me.
Speaker 3 (14:26):
Hang on you No, they give me money.
Speaker 1 (14:27):
They say, oh we can't. This guy would bankrupt Vegas.
He's the only one to pick the Lions. Yeah, yeah,
bank team bankrub Vegas. It's like my own personal Oceans
thirteen that at the end Pacino's got no money left
at the end. I don't know what what is this
a Billy Martin you pulled on me, Jason Smith? Was
this a Dick Houser you pulled on me?
Speaker 3 (14:48):
Was this was this?
Speaker 1 (14:49):
Was this a Yogi Berry you pulled on me? What
is this What is this? He t Dick Houses?
Speaker 3 (14:54):
Was this? Was this a Brett boon you pulled on me?
What was it?
Speaker 2 (14:58):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 1 (15:05):
All Right, all right, all right, I feel like like
Fred Gwynn and my cousin Vinny Jerry Callo c all okay,
all right, end zip. We're gonna settle this right now.
If the Lions win, every song the rest of the
night needs to be something from a Detroit motown artist,
which means you could have Diana Ross or you could
(15:25):
have Sponge okay by any Detroit artist, could be anything.
I really like to hear Sponge okay. If they lose, though,
then hears for Fears Knight, No, and it's.
Speaker 3 (15:34):
Never never What is the tenth anniversary of whatever was
going on with Marshall Mathers and Booth? Oh? That is true,
That is true. That is true.
Speaker 1 (15:42):
Right, I'll give you this, I'll give you this. Lions win,
every song is a Detroit song, Okay, Kansas City wins,
you get one Nickelback song one?
Speaker 3 (15:53):
Why'd you say that?
Speaker 2 (15:54):
You get one Nickelback?
Speaker 3 (15:55):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (15:55):
Maybe stage coach, you get one nickelback song one one,
I get two.
Speaker 3 (16:02):
No Ah, you know what. I feel good.
Speaker 1 (16:05):
The Lions are gonna win this game. My Lions, my
super Bowl Lions. Two nickelbacks Samps. Can you even name
two nickelback nows? You only play this one?
Speaker 3 (16:15):
Oh? I know, Jason, Just so you know, your curse
on the Lions is already rubbing off.
Speaker 1 (16:20):
Oh boy, right now, Detroit and Kansas City fourteen fourteen,
five minutes to go in the third quarter. Chiefs have
the football. Patrick Mahomes. Oh, by the way, the Chiefs
leading rusher tonight, he is just scrambled for a first down.
Speaker 3 (16:35):
The Lions.
Speaker 1 (16:36):
It's gonna be a very it's gonna you know, it's
they win. It's been If they win, it'll be fine.
If they lose, it's not gonna be a postgame press conference.
Dan Campbell's gonna like because we talked about the decision
to take the penalty at the end of the first
half that resulted in the Chiefs getting a first down
of the next play and scoring a touchdown to go
up fourteen fourteen. That's bad enough. Now you add in
(16:59):
what just happened and the Lions had the football again
fourteen fourteen. They were facing a fourth and ten at
the forty yard line of the Chiefs Riley Patterson. But
clearly the life of Riley not good enough to make
that call field goal kicker. They eschewed the field goal
that's one of my favorite words, and punted yeah to
(17:21):
the Chiefs, a net gain of about three and a
half feet. No, uh, down to yeah, down to the ten,
so the net gain of thirty yards. They still put
my homes down inside the ten yard line. But you
have a you have a coaching call in the first
half that is a little bit questionable. I'llbeit this one
not as questionable, but when you start stacking questionable calls
(17:42):
as a head coach, it's not a good thing.
Speaker 3 (17:44):
Man. But go back to how you got your game
started right, Yeah, have but you fizzle on a first
possession right opening day? Jitters arrowheads really loud whatever, Still burrowhead,
it's not burrowhead. Burrowheads got paid. But that's part of
the deal, right, it's not all guaranteed. Part of it
(18:04):
is a renaming of the stadium. We'll get to that
in a second. But you have the big play of
the fake punt inside your own twenty right, what is
it the huge marbles right when we go back to
me marble? Yeah, So you have that, and then down
the stretch you have the play that we talk about
(18:28):
where you have a holding penalty and instead of saying
either punt it or convert your fourth down, go ahead,
convert your fourth down, fourth and a couple of yards,
you say, all right, we'll make a third down again.
Bad job by you give up the touchdown. And then
you left whatever intestinal fortitude you had on the sideline
doing that interview, because now you have a fourth and
(18:49):
three from the forty. Mister Chestey, early on you get
the gimme, oh excuse me touchdown by your defense, and
now you're gonna go conservative. Come on, man, where's the
foot on the accelebrating? You're in motown. You're in a
car town. Man, let's go. You're yelling so much? What
is well?
Speaker 4 (19:06):
Why are you yelling so much? What's happened to you
this week? You've been yelling so much because it's football season, No,
but you're jecked up about it. I've watched guys make
millions of dollars and that's all they do. I know
what you're I want that money time. It's very it's
very loud. Who hurt you this week?
Speaker 3 (19:22):
Who hurt you? Knew? Northwestern wasn't gonna win any They're
not gonna be good. They did score at the end
of the game though, Yeah, that was nice though. Ten
seconds did help gamblers. I mean, I know the White
Sox lost there up on you.
Speaker 1 (19:37):
I'm not even paying attention to them, and give I'm
gonna bet that they score a point. Oh hey, you
in right there over under of three and a half.
The Jets, Now, what is what has just happened? The
Jets are going to the Super Bowl? Did you not
hear my pick last night? Jets Lions, My Lions, my Jets.
Speaker 3 (19:55):
I heard it.
Speaker 1 (19:55):
Jets laughed my ass off the Chiefs. You know, I
don't have to buy any food for you tonight, Frostburg.
I could just buy pizza. Well, oh, I don't have
to buy food for Tyser tonight either. Wait a minute, now,
I take back those nickelback songs. Watch well, too late,
we got your credit card.
Speaker 2 (20:13):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (20:24):
Mookie Bets, he and Ronald Lacuna having this big MVP
back and forth. Left the stadium on crutches today after
fouling the ball off his foot in his last at bet.
X rays are negative, but these are per sources. Foul
the ball off his foot, left the stadium on crutches.
X rays negative and until we get a bigger update,
(20:45):
he is still officially day to day. So here's the Dodgers.
Who can I mean, look, you can't ever lose. Anybody
can't lose Mookie Bets. Can't lose these guys. I mean
the Mookie Bets is He's half your team. You got
the Dynamics on the other half. Yeah, So we'll keep
you posted on this story as we hear more tonight. Again,
Rookie Betts left to night's game on crutches after fouling
the ball off his foot his last at bat against
(21:07):
the Marlins. Meanwhile, we'll have more on the Lions and
the Chiefs coming up in a few minutes. Joe Burrow
got paid And it's a very browhead. It's a very
weird story because and I really I'm like, I'm like
of two minds on this. He gets a five year,
two hundred and seventy five million dollar extension right that
(21:27):
comes out to about fifty five million dollars a year.
Two hundred and nineteen million of it is guaranteed. He
is the highest paid player in NFL history. This is
Joe Burrow. On the one hand, I can say, boy,
I knew this is until Zach Wilson becomes a highest
paid play a couple of years ago. On the one hand,
even though Joe Burrow, you expected it to get here,
(21:49):
expected him to get paid. We knew it was coming.
That the Bengals gave this much money to anybody is
a shocker. I mean you're talking about there was a
lot of money in those cooke machines. They must have
finally emptied all of those things that they used to
charge players for. I know, my guy's paying a dollar
for soda. I want you, I want you to stock
my soda machine for three years. I really am, I
(22:10):
really am stunned. Mike Brown and the bet we're gonna
give this guy this money even though you have to,
and this is how it's done in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (22:17):
This is still the Bengals. It's still Mike Brown.
Speaker 1 (22:20):
I don't know that they have that much money. I
don't know that we can sign up by because I
don't really have that much. So it doesn't how much
are we getting from the TV deal this year?
Speaker 3 (22:26):
Hey? How long next year?
Speaker 1 (22:28):
How long do you think it'll take for Burrow to
get his check and not see what the money?
Speaker 3 (22:33):
Like?
Speaker 1 (22:33):
Doesn't he have enough money now that he won't even
tell for a while, like how much money is going
in his bank?
Speaker 3 (22:38):
I mean, I don't know. I mean it's gonna know.
I mean, he just bought several towns in Ohio.
Speaker 1 (22:44):
It really it's it's stunning to me that the Bengals
paid anybody that kind of money, because you know, Bengals
on the other hard part of it, and this.
Speaker 3 (22:52):
This is the big apartment. He kind of brought a
tier to my eye when I no, it was great.
Look at me.
Speaker 1 (22:56):
They have outdoor practicality too. They're gonna get that. I mean,
I was just waiting to see how they'd screw it up. Yeah, well,
I think it is the Bengals, But I told you,
every team you get it once in a while. When
they had drafted Joe Burrow, it was the very quickly
you saw it was gonna be the era of good
feeling for the next decade plus because Burrow is that guy. Right,
I've been telling you for two years, Burrows that look
(23:18):
at where they are. They're a yearly super Bowl threat,
and they will be because they have Joe Burrow.
Speaker 3 (23:21):
But they've also, I mean, to their credit, they've built
a really good roster, which they had done a couple
of times in their history. Sure, remember those teams Marvin
Lewis was lording over there were pretty good and then
they just couldn't get over right. They'd get you into
January and then it was early losses. So now you've
(23:42):
got the guy at the helmet and everything's pushing forward
where you got Joe Mixon to come back and give
some of that money back that's now in Joe Burrow's pocket.
But good for them, right, As a guy whose teams
don't spend any money, I'm very jealous.
Speaker 1 (23:57):
But on the other side of this, and I really
I feel weird saying this, but this is the bigger
part is that Burrow Burrow gets this big, big time extension, right,
fifty five million dollars a year. I really am surprised
he didn't get more. I thought he would be into
sixty million a year, and that would Burrow would be
the guy to set that bar for the next young
(24:18):
quarterbacks coming up for their extensions. I really, I really
thought Burrow would get more money. I really thought Burrow
would wind up getting more money. And it would be
because because fifty five million it seems kind of light.
Speaker 3 (24:27):
Well it's I guess it comes a million. I guess
it comes down to this, right, everybody always wants a
little more. You like big round numbers. You like to
break it. You like to break it and leave everybody
else in the dust. But Joe Burrow, I mean two
seventy five, it's a pretty hefty amount. It would have
been a nice round number. Everybody thought to get more.
(24:49):
I thought Burrow would get more. I really, I mean,
I gotta get what are you doing? You if you're
you're you're splitting hairs? What does the matter? Fifty five?
Say No, you're talking about the guys. This is how
this is how contracts go. This is what it goes
for quarterbacks. And Burrow was the guy. There's nothing the
guy hasn't done. No into a super Bowl, He's been
deep in the playoffs, he's proven the quarterback he is,
and he was the guy. I really am surprised. Such
(25:10):
is that a new number? Right? The guarantee, we can
quibble about that a little bit because I know there's
a little bit of angst over that is, well, how
did he not get a fully guaranteed thing? Well, her
cousins did, but he's done at piecemeal, right, short Neils, Yeah,
cousin's got three years I guaranteed, right of all of that.
So you want the extra years, you give something back
a little bit. And so to nineteen nothing to sneeze at.
(25:35):
For those keeping score at home, it's fifty six million dollars,
that's not And that's fine because if he plays and
this team achieves as they're expected, right, because beyond the Chiefs,
they're also the favorite, right, they're the second favorite out
of the AFC. So you're expecting another potential run back
towards a super Bowl, which means, you know, we start
(25:58):
looking down the line of all, right, let's re up
this deal. Still, young guy, right, plenty of opportunities to
make more money out there, and so perhaps you don't push. Uh,
you got to two seventy five, you got the new
record fifty five's uh, you know, I can't drive fifty five?
Speaker 1 (26:16):
Yeah, you know, but part of me, part of me
season goes. Is it really that coincidental that the guys
who just came up for their big extensions, right, the
guy all are right around fifty five? There was nobody
that you had. You had Lamar Jackson, Jalen Hurtz, Justin
Herbert was fifty two and a half million. Now you
got him a fifty. How much better? Is what I'm saying,
(26:39):
is that how like these salaries seem like they're tamp down.
Speaker 3 (26:42):
Whether it's you know, oh are you going?
Speaker 1 (26:45):
You can jump in and talk collusion, but it's it's
really surprised that here's all these guys coming up and
they all get right around the same number.
Speaker 3 (26:52):
Somebody's at the market usually kind of falls in line.
Speaker 1 (26:55):
Yeah, but all these guys, right, I mean, really that
that many players. This is where the numbers should have
gone from fifty into the sixties.
Speaker 3 (27:03):
Like it should have. It should have gone.
Speaker 1 (27:04):
You're talking about four guys who are young and talented, wyant,
young and talented, and guys that are gonna have at
least five or seven more great years, And it didn't
go up as much.
Speaker 3 (27:14):
But at least but I mean go back to it.
I mean you look at the Chargers, and you look
at the Bengals, not exactly teams that have been flushed
with cash to flash it around and start dropping dollar bills.
So the fact that they didn't come over the top
and say, you know what, not only are gonna make
you the record holder. You know what, there's an extra
Brinch truck that's gonna roll up. Just no, the hell
(27:35):
with that. Lamar Jackson's deal set where it is and
everything was gonna fall in around that.
Speaker 1 (27:41):

The song This song goes out to the Lions offense
thirty five years ago today and Justice for all the
World got to hear this song for the very first time.
Speaker 3 (28:41):
Great video Johnny Got His Gun, the terrifying war film.
Great book You ever get a chance to go back
and read.
Speaker 1 (28:50):
That This was always one of the most difficult songs
to play on Guitar Hero because it's so long and
it ends with it you have no stamin right well,
and it ends with that insane Kirk Hammett guitar our
solo that like I'm watching my scrub, like if I
fail this in the last twenty seconds, And I just
played this song for eight minutes and I can't tell
you how many times that happened, Like no, yeah, but
(29:10):
did you play it often enough here where you can
start doing that slow stalking of the stage like they
do when they play this. No, it's like make as
little mistakes as I can for the first seven minutes
because then that last the last minute of the song.
Is that crazy solo? And if I just watching my
points go down, I'm seeing my the arrow go. I'm like, no,
I'm gonna fail. No, I'm gonna fail. No, no, no, no,
(29:33):
come on, come on.
Speaker 5 (29:34):
My hands are cramping. Come on, got calessis on my
kingos keep going. Oh my god, it's so fast. I
can't even move my fingers. I'm done cramping. I can't
do it now, I'm gonna fail.
Speaker 3 (29:49):
Are you sure you're playing guitar Hero? He's still playing
guitar Hero? Right? You all got that? So the Family
show Man still going? I mean, like this is this?
It ends with this?
Speaker 1 (29:59):
Come on, man, please in No, I still gotta keep going.
Speaker 3 (30:05):
I go two more minutes.
Speaker 2 (30:06):
I can't feel my wrist all the way to my elbow.
Speaker 3 (30:10):
Gouys thirty five years ago. Also the last time the
Lions were good.
Speaker 1 (30:14):
Oh no, wait, well hang on wait, but the NFC
Championship game in ninety two.
Speaker 3 (30:20):
It's like, guys, so you're on there, We're thirty eight,
we're three decades ago. That was it. I asked this
question after a an end around your guy, Canarius Tony
where he was stopped short? How many yards of the game?
Speaker 2 (30:33):
Negative one?
Speaker 3 (30:34):
There we go. So at this point in the game,
all right, he fails to haul in a ball that
gets returned for a touchdown on an interception. Yeah, he's
dropped another pass that it would have been a first down.
Oh yeah, yea, there he couldn't fight up to the
edge to get the I don't know six and a
half feet they needed for a first down. What's his
(30:55):
war tonight? It's war like negative eleven. I have one
guess of negative thirty.
Speaker 1 (31:02):
Three, So his war's got to be its negative seven
for the touchdown?
Speaker 3 (31:07):
All right?
Speaker 1 (31:07):
Then said that's seven. That's worth seven right there? Not
getting that first down, that's got to be at least
one or two. Yeah, so he's.
Speaker 3 (31:14):
Got he's probably about a negative ten negative allie. Yeah,
he's into double digits at this point. Yeah, I gotta think,
can you do that? Can you do daily war? Can
you do daily war? Can I give you a hot
take coming out of this game? Though? Sure ahead, Bud.
If the Chiefs defense doesn't need Chris Jones. Wow, Oh
the lions.
Speaker 2 (31:29):
Look at the.
Speaker 3 (31:30):
Lion seven points seven points cut and printed. Put it
out there, hot take, nonsense, let's go. I think it's all.
I got an opinion. It may stake Chris Jones. But
you know what, right now, you're watching your team dominate
this vaunted offense. You're yelling again. I am really loud. Yeah,
you're just yelling well because otherwise, you know, I sound
(31:51):
like you could have a guy with a stand up
base behind.
Speaker 4 (31:53):
They've already made all the hires for first take and
everything else.
Speaker 3 (31:56):
Yelling there's room for one more. It's really there's always
room for one more question, jumpy Sash, what's going on? Mike? Why?
Speaker 4 (32:05):
I mean, I have my headphones on and it's going
through the headphones out and I think my headphone just cracked.
Speaker 3 (32:10):
And he's deaf, Mike, he's legally deaf. I have I
have noticed that on days that I follow him into
that spot that I need to really turn that not good.
I don't know's that's a lot of guys around here.
I think that should be uh mandatory in terms of
all of our health check up spot, our hearing for
guys that have been doing this a.
Speaker 1 (32:30):
Minute really bad round my hearing is fun Number one
is better than your because you have the ones that
go all the way in your ear.
Speaker 3 (32:36):
That's not healthy. The second reason, the reason this is
so high is people I thought this looked good because
it made his face look better. No, no, no sleeker
design for the video.
Speaker 1 (32:43):
There, I see you, you look like you look like
Aaron Rodgers. Well, hey dude, don't you wear the AirPods?
Now why you're wearing the ones with the wires.
Speaker 3 (32:48):
And he says, Oh, it's all those waves going into
my brain.
Speaker 1 (32:52):
Now, these headphones that I wear actually funnel the sound out,
so I need to be a little bit louder.
Speaker 3 (32:57):
So it's not just all in my little bit louder.
These are the ones that funnel. That's what they told you,
and you fell for it. Well, it's marketing scheme. Nobody
told me.
Speaker 1 (33:04):
Hey, I will I will hold back them to any
marketing scheme if I like it enough, I'll do that
in a second. I remember one time, went back when
I when I used to buy the newspaper, like opening
the newspaper, and it was if you buy Sorry, I
can explain to millennials what a newspaper is. It was,
if you buy a new DVD player, get a camp
(33:25):
get a free camp what's.
Speaker 3 (33:26):
A DVD player?
Speaker 1 (33:27):
So I didn't need a new DVD player, but I
went out to buy a DVD player, so I got
the free camp quarter.
Speaker 3 (33:32):
Now I'm gonna play what a camp quarter? Is?
Speaker 1 (33:33):
All these this is all in the early two thousands.
This is all the early two thousands.
Speaker 3 (33:37):
You said the Thoughts had no music. The man we
had new technology was I was like, I don't need
a DVD player, but it's new. Maybe I'll sell the
other one and I'll get a free cam quarter. That's cool.
I'm like, let's go do that. Last week, guys, my
son asked me. He said you were born in the
nineteen hundreds. He didn't get any dessert that night.
Speaker 1 (33:58):
Dude, dude, your son thinks you are so old, so old,
I mean really like you just say how much longer
is daddy gonna live?
Speaker 3 (34:09):
Are still young? Mine are in their teens and they're
already asking that question. Well with legitimate dad, one's the
last time. What are your directors in your will? What
do you dad?
Speaker 1 (34:21):
Who gets the who gets the purple shorts?
Speaker 3 (34:23):
Who gets all the purple show? I mean, there's a
Brady book there's a ringo drumhead, there's uh stack cards.
Speaker 2 (34:31):
All things.
Speaker 3 (34:31):
All things in the apocalypse would render you absolutely zero worth. Yeah,
you know what, I'd fight like Hell.
Speaker 1 (34:37):
Though field goal by the Chiefs has given them a
point lead early in the fourth quarter, Lions have the football.
Hopefully it's a bigger dose of Jamir Gibbs because they
really really need it. Is failing on this game and
other big stories in the NFL coming up next right here.
Speaker 3 (34:57):
This is Fox
