Speaker 1 (00:29):
Greetings, Welcome inside, Happy Friday Jason Smith Show with my
bass friend. His name is Mike Harmon.

Speaker 3 (00:39):
Yeah.

Well.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
With the Jets beating the Eagles tonight in the meaningless
preseason game, fifty six to negative four, right now we
can super Bowl transit in property. Yes, we can focus
on the other games. We could focus on an Okay, look,
I didn't think Brady Cook would throw seven touchdowns in
the first half he did. I didn't think the Jets
defense would pitch a negative shutout and they are so
really it's just a you know, it's a win win

(01:20):
day for everybody.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
Just run out the clock at this point. Yeah, Jets show.

Speaker 4 (01:26):
Yeah, I would got people putting in my timeline that
are putting all sorts of this is Caleb Williams when this, this,
and this happened. And it's a picture of Zach Wilson
in a Jets uniform. So that's my day too.

Speaker 3 (01:37):
I will say this.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
I was the Eagles Jets really quick before we get
to the big game, because there's a couple of big
takeaways from one game tonight. I was, you know, look,
because obviously there's nothing at stake here Eagles and Jets.
All the backups are playing. I really wanted Kyle McCord
to play well. Obviously, cues like the guy turned our
program around, and he's not good at all tonight. You know,
he's not been throwing the ball. He doesn't even look

(01:59):
like the same guy. You know, he looks the same
guy throwing with confidence, knowing where the ball. He doesn't
even look like the same player.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
Attempts though, just young. Yeah, just you gotta you know,
you gotta complete.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
When you throw the ball thirty two times, you got
to complete like twenty two of them or twenty four
of them, not twelve.

Speaker 4 (02:15):
Yeah, long road begins with the first step, buddy. I mean, look,
he's still winning.

Speaker 3 (02:19):
He gets it. He's winning. That's great, that's great. He's
when he's going the whole way.

Speaker 1 (02:23):
But I wanted Brady Cook to play well for the
Jets because he's been a big star of training camp,
the undrafted free agent that all of a sudden, maybe
he's the next rock Party Brady cut Yeah, okay, Uh,
he's just been average below average tonight.

Speaker 4 (02:35):
So I'm like, he's averaged just over five yards in attempt.

Speaker 3 (02:39):
I mean, the Jets are gonna lose.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
And I was actually rooting for the quarterback of the
other team and it didn't work out. So like tonight's like,
you know what, I'm just glad. Tonight means nothing. That's
all the night in double l for you. There means
absolutely nothing.

Speaker 4 (02:51):
It's okay, Well, that's the beauty of the end of
the preseason. You decide to take whatever grandiose implications from
it that you will. I actually had friends that traveled
to watch the Bears and Chiefs today, so I was doing.

Speaker 3 (03:06):
A lot or no.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
I think it was a sentence that a creative judge
handed down in court, and you gotta go to.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
The last preseason game to see the Bears.

Speaker 4 (03:16):
I think it was the you know, go see Kelsey
before he's done, go to do so at a relatively
affordable rate, before you go back to school, and all
that thing. Take the kids, take the mom, take the
whole nine yards. But I was just like, yeah, it's
a curiosity for me, but good on.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
But I mean, look, it's the kind of thing that.

Speaker 4 (03:37):
You decided, Hey, we're gonna go get the best seats
we can for a preseason game. Go have a have
a laugh, so Eve, we can get somebody's attention, uh,
and go create some chaos. Seem like a lot of
driving in a lot of work for a preseason game.
But you know what, I do my best to just
celebrate when other people find their wins as long as
it doesn't negatively impact me.

Speaker 3 (03:59):
Find your day wins.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
Now, speaking of this is the game, this is that,
this is what they would call this is the spotlight
game of the day here right now at halftime. I
just started the third quarter. Actually, Chiefs lead the Bears
twenty to ten. The best part about this game is
both teams played their starters for the most You know, look,
Caleb Williams went the entire way in the first half.
Patrick Mahomes went most of the way in the first half.

(04:24):
We saw Swift, Dan o'doonza and DJ Moore and Pacheco
and Kelsey and Rashid Rice.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
We saw all of these guys.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
It was kind of fun, right, like, hey, we got
to see starters now before we get to Caleb Williams.

Speaker 3 (04:38):
Well, they do to eleven different guys.

Speaker 4 (04:40):
If you had you just wanted to look at somebody
in a Chief's uniform running in pass routes, they really
gave sho.

Speaker 3 (04:47):
You got to see it.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
But look, I'll tell you this, watching Mahomes in the
first half, watching the Chiefs playing with a lot of attitude. Right,
Isaiah Pacheco was running like it was the NFC, the
AFC championship game in the second half, and and with
two first downs they could go to the Super Bowl.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
Like he was treating this like this is this is
exactly what I know?

Speaker 1 (05:06):
Like, yeah, he had he had three He's had three
rushing attempts and he's looked and he's run angry on
both of them.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
I have and this is not gonna be a popular
take with a lot of people in the NFL. But
I have a sneaking, dreading suspicion that this is gonna
be the Patrick Mahomes revenge year for the game manager
he has become in the last couple of years. Because
you have, in theory, the best weapons they have had

(05:36):
in a couple of years. You have a rededicated Travis Kelcey. Again,
in theory, you have a rededicated Travis Kelcey. You have
Rashid Rice back for the first four games, and he's
gonna service suspension. But you know, by that point, who
knows who winds up coming in and getting some targets.
We know Taekwon Forton had the big fifty eight yard
reception tonight. Xavier Worthy in year two in the offense Pacheco.

(05:59):
Maybe he's back and he is one hundred percent healthy
and he is good to go. But I have a
sneaking suspicion this is gonna be the you all just
thought I was done being an elite quarterback the last
couple of years because I've been running a game manager
offense because clearly they've not had the weapons right. They
kept cycling through wide receiver after wide receiver the last
two years, and while it got them far, they still won.

(06:23):
Patrick Mahomes went from He's Patrick Mahomes two.

Speaker 3 (06:25):
Man. Do I even start Patrick Mahomes in fantasy? I
don't know.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
Do I have better options? I got like eight better
options than Mahomes. He's at least a low level QB one.
But just watching them, watching you know, seeing where they're
at coming into the season, as far as health, as
far as players, as far as expectation. Seeing Mahomes, I
have a sneaking suspicion this is going to be the
big Patrick Mahomes revenge year and he's back to the
quarterback that he was up until a couple of years ago.

Speaker 4 (06:50):
Well, it's one of the things we talked about over
the course of last season Jason quite often, was this
was your shot to go.

Speaker 3 (06:56):
Get him, right.

Speaker 4 (06:58):
They didn't have anything offense Lee that was explosive. Kelsey
was a step slower and for him, terrible numbers right
because he was useless in the in the red zone.
That's where he'd made some hay in the years past.
But for almost any other tight end in the National
Football League, it's like if your team had a guy
putting up the number of catches, targets and yards, you're like,

(07:19):
I'll take that all day, all day long. But for him,
a down year, as he you know, spent his summer
on the brought Worst and beer Fest, watching his bow
get after it in the European Tour. He did go
on stage a couple of times, so he at least
got a couple of cardio workouts in while he was
part of it. But all of that to say, he's back.

(07:40):
Curious to see how long Rashie Rice ends up being suspended.
But you get Hollywood brown back, you get some of
these other wide receivers back, some of these young guys
that'll get more reps. Yeah, I think you had your opportunity.
Now did the division get better alongside him? Sure, we've
got better things from the Chargers. The Raiders are going
to be just good enough to be a pain in
the ass. And Denver was a ten win team a

(08:02):
year ago. And from all accounts and from everything you're
looking at there, you've got a top notch defense. And
you've got some young receivers that are ready for bo
Nicks to make cave. Not to mention, you grabbed Harvey
to anchor your backfield, and that's a guy with great
explosion as well. So all of that to say, you're
not gonna run away and hide in the division. But yeah,

(08:23):
from top to bottom, you were defense base team with
Patrick Mahomes just picking his spots a year ago. They
can open up the offense again.

Speaker 1 (08:33):
Look out, really, I mean everything is there for them
losing the Super Bowl. The chips on their shoulder, the
chip on his shoulder. Now again, as you said, the
division is much more competitive, and any one of those
three teams, sorry Raiders, but you'll be the best last
place team in the NFL.

Speaker 3 (08:50):
Any one of those teams can win it. But Mahomes
himself like, this is.

Speaker 1 (08:53):
The Okay, you thought I was just gonna settle into
my thirties and with my dad bot and just you know,
I kind of hope my wife and my brother and
my dad could stay out of the news every few days.
I'm just gonna settle into maybe winning a couple more
Super Bowls. And then suddenly I'd just shown my rings
and my legacy. No, this is okay. Now is a
time for him to get back into being that guy. Look,
and Andy Reid is a smart guy, right, Obviously the

(09:16):
guy's not gonna wind up being the most winning coach
in NFL history for nothing like he saw that the
last couple of years. Okay, we can't wing it around
like we used to. The weapons just haven't worked out, right.
We went five wide receivers replaced him, five wide receivers
replaced him five wide receivers if they try to mix,
and the mix hasn't worked out as much the last
couple of years. So it's been a more balanced team,

(09:37):
relying more defensively. But now finally everybody's back, everybody's healthy.
S the right suspension is going to be a thing
probably four games in the early part of October, but
by that time, you want to think their offense is
going to be rolling a little bit.

Speaker 3 (09:51):
Yeah, man, I really it's bad.

Speaker 1 (09:54):
News for the rest of the NFL, But I really, mahomes,
he's going to be back to being that guy again
that he was three years ago. And look, not a
moment too soon for the NFL logo. He's he carried
the torch for five years. He had an incredible run
where he was Lebron and he was Brady and he
was Jeter and he all wrapped into one in the NFL.
And I missed him the last couple of years, and

(10:15):
especially because I have in Dynasty and sure like, but
I think everybody's missed him the last couple of years
being that game manager guy.

Speaker 3 (10:23):
But yeah, I don't think that guy was gone for good.

Speaker 1 (10:25):
I think I think it was more we need to
get the right guys around him as he's getting older.

Speaker 3 (10:31):
You know, teams have figured out how this offense works.

Speaker 1 (10:34):
And now it's not like he's got incredible weapons around him,
but he's got guys that have a little bit of
talent and that he's now been in the system for
a couple of years, that have that have gone through. Yeah,
this is gonna be a really big offensive year for Mahomes.

Speaker 3 (10:47):
Watch out.

Speaker 4 (10:48):
Well, you look at what Smith Schuster's back. You've got
Xavier Worthy who came on strong down the stretch, or
she Rice whatever part of the season he misses for
six games whenever that becomes Hollywood Brown. So we got
speedsitters on the outside. You got Kelsey and Noah Gray
taking care of the middle, not to mention what Kelsey
does as a blocker for Pacheco, Hunt, Mitchell and whoever

(11:09):
else is running the football. Not to mention there is
Carson Steel. Because anytime you actually list at fullback on
your depth chart, damn it, we're gonna give them acknowledgment.

Speaker 3 (11:17):
Here.

Speaker 4 (11:18):
If you look at your AFC odds right now, they
are the third favorite behind the Ravens and the Bills,
and then there's a gap before you get to the
Bengals and the Chiefs. But plus three forty plus three
sixty plus four to twenty five. You want to have
some fun though. You look at the division odds talking
about again how it's come back to them with the

(11:39):
Broncos and Chargers both about three to one, Raiders down
there at sixteen to one, Chiefs are only at minus
one ten. That's an implied odds of just fifty three
percent to win the division. So you want to go
and give yourself, you know, your your little little bet
to keep yourself entertained.

Speaker 3 (11:55):
Not a lot of risk there for you.

Speaker 1 (11:58):
Now, the flip side of it is this, yeah, okay,
everybody flip side of it, And I need to be
realistic and I'm gonna say the most realistic down to earth.
You nod your head and understand this is how it's
going to go when it comes to the Bears. Caleb
Williams played the first half. Tyson Beagen is in there
now it's second. Oh my god, Tyson Page He's awesome.

(12:20):
Williams up and down first half, but was able to
take him down on a touchdown drive, throw a touchdown
pass to Roma Dunes. Ay, he's the guy that's really
got to come through this year, really quiet year last year. Right,
We've talked about Caleb Williams so much this preseason. I've
told you I think he's gonna have a huge year.
Bears fans are not quite sure Beagent gets a big
contract extension. This seems to be looking like an RG

(12:43):
three Kirk Cousins situation back in Washington a decade ago.
But the best thing I can say is because you
know I want to help you, buddy, the best thing
I can say is this, for the next.

Speaker 3 (12:53):
Let's see hang on for the net one, two, three, four, five, six, seven,
eight nine.

Speaker 1 (12:57):
For the next ten days, Bears, your hands are just
gonna be nervous and full of anxiety and nothing tonight
could help that. I mean, really short of Caleb Williams
throwing three touchdowns in the first half, going for two
hundred yards, and hey, everything is great. A touchdown to more,
a touchdown to a Duneesay, you know, a touchdown to
Brian Baschnagel.

Speaker 3 (13:16):
That wasn't going to do it.

Speaker 1 (13:17):
But hey, okay, Williams has been good ish the last
couple of weeks. It's been fine. Yes, Page's been really
good against backups. All right, I understand, but I'd love
to be able to say, hey, he's turning the narrative around.
But Bears fans are just gonna be nervous, full of anxiety,
and it's gonna be show me on the field week one.
The era of good feeling will start for the Bears

(13:39):
when Caleb Williams starts doing well actually on the field,
but the next ten days, I'm sorry, buddy, I can't
do anything more for you. It just gonna be full
of a nerve racking. This season's gonna fall apart on
the first snap in the first incomplete pass.

Speaker 3 (13:51):
Well, I mean, you've covered your bases.

Speaker 4 (13:53):
You either have him doing really well and he's reaching
great heights, or he's displaced and thrown out of town
on a rail.

Speaker 3 (14:00):
So, I mean, you know, I told you he's gonna
have a big year.

Speaker 1 (14:03):
But just in case he doesn't like this is it? Man,
Like they're gonna they're.

Speaker 3 (14:08):
Gonna be moving on.

Speaker 1 (14:09):
But I want to tell you the first thing I
always say is he's going to have a big year.

Speaker 3 (14:13):
Everything is gonna be fine. And then you but build
it's always fun, but it's no, no, it's always fun.

Speaker 1 (14:19):
Just to look at the other side of it though,
then how much they want because like you can't deny
how much Bears fans are one foot out the door
on him and they've been yeah, but Ben Johnson coming
in there one.

Speaker 3 (14:28):
But I can't wait.

Speaker 4 (14:29):
Till we actually have real football, because you know the
snippets and stuff that shows up in social media, clips
on air or whatever. It's like, Okay, Monday, I said
these guys were great. Tuesday, I'm gonna say they suck.

Speaker 3 (14:41):
Wednesday.

Speaker 4 (14:42):
It's like when Marriotti and then and skip, we're writing
columns back in Chicago. What day of the week it is,
that's who they're bashing or praising this day. Okay, good,
got it. That's kind of where we're at we've got Micah,
we've got the Browns, and we've got the Bears. Those
are only three stories anyway, it's behind this preseason, so

(15:03):
getting the meaningful football. Look, he took an abhorrent sack
which was reminiscent of twenty twenty four. So that was
one of those you just shaking your head going all right,
one one thousand and two and thousand, like that was
longer than it takes Giannis to shoot a free throw
that he had in the pocket to get rid of
the football before he absorbed that sack. So all of
that to say, uneven numbers look good, the box score

(15:26):
looks good, but until they start flying for real, I mean,
none of it matters. And and look, I'm the pragmatist
of it all. Maybe maybe that only gets me to
uh to the middle in radio because I'm not hot
tech take nonsense with it all. But there's a reason
they're over under in Vegas is so low they're not
wouldn't make a bunch of games.

Speaker 5 (15:46):
But.

Speaker 1 (15:48):
You'd be okay with and it would just if Caleb
Williams goes thirty touchdowns four thousand yards and the Bears
go six and eleven.

Speaker 3 (15:56):
Everybody would be fine with that.

Speaker 1 (15:58):
We're good, we got a quarterback, we're exciting, we're points now,
we build now, we gotta win but six and eleven.
But Caleb Williams has that kind of year, beats fans
would I'll take it. I'll take that kind of excitement.
It will also be the best of your quarterbacks ever
had in Chicago, O Jason, I mean go back to
like the nuance of the stuff. Who's the guy that
wrote the book? The guy from that used to do
all the patriot stuff? Why Wickersham?

Speaker 3 (16:21):
Right?

Speaker 4 (16:21):
Yeah, so that whole book on quarterbacks and whatever. I mean,
very nuanced stuff about what he and his dad were
asking and their reservations and Shane Walder and whatever else.
But to hear it talk, all the guy did was
sit and wine and kick his feet in the air
like he was at an eighteen month old who wasn't
getting chicken nuggies as opposed to it actually being a
nuance business conversation about putting himself in the best circumstance.

Speaker 3 (16:45):
But no, that's what you get spoon fed. So what happens?

Speaker 4 (16:48):
The wolves are at the door, hot take nonsense rein
supreme and there we are I don't know how good
the kid's gonna be. I saw some things I liked
last year. Does it translate to wins? I don't know,
but I will get give you this Odoonsay got the
touchdown tonight.

Speaker 3 (17:02):
That's great.

Speaker 4 (17:03):
Last week in the telecast, Greg Olsen, they said the
quiet part out loud about how they love Luther Burden
and then go back and it's not just because he's
a pass rusher. The thing is, grab the highlight clips
of Luthor Burden through the first two weeks. He's running
through people as a blocker. That'll get you on the
field real fast.

Speaker 1 (17:21):
And a Ben Johnson offense exit out about a Forresca exit,
Swollen Dow and the Chase The Smith Show.

Speaker 3 (17:27):
With my best friend Mike Harmon.

coming up next, we got more NFL on the way,
believe it or not. Jerry Jones speaks again. He did

(17:49):
not say anybody told him to stick something up as
you know what but boy did he have some stuff
to say about the Cowboys and Micah Parsons that.

Speaker 3 (17:59):
Maybe was even better than what he said yesterday.

Speaker 1 (18:01):
Remember when he said Michah Parson's agent said, hey, we
told him to stick it up. Oh that's coming up, Jim,
It's coming up next right here, Jason and Mike.

Speaker 3 (18:08):

the final weekend of NFL preseason, absolutely and final swing

(19:33):
the three games tonight. Don't look now, but here come
the Jets. They're down by two to the Eagles with
three minutes left. All we do is win.

Speaker 3 (19:41):
Okay. Uh, I'm just saying, you know, it's wow. I mean,
get your something excited. I mean it might be one
of the few times you get to do that. Oh
that is true? Yeah? No, I no, you're right about that.

Speaker 1 (19:51):
Like, Hey, how many times am I going to get
to see a Jets come from behind win against the Eagles?

Speaker 3 (19:55):
Yeah? Not very oft No, and.

Speaker 4 (19:57):
Potentially I mean, and you got a Mets win, right,
I mean, it wasn't the easy win, like it looked
like it was gonna be but.

Speaker 1 (20:06):
Paul Skeans. We are gonna we are gonna turn Nolan
McLain into Paul Skeens. No, Matt, don't trust me. Everything
Nolan McClain, his spin rate, Everything that the Pirates have
done in baseball have done to make Paul Skeins into
a superstar, We're gonna do for Nolan McLain.

Speaker 3 (20:21):
I'm telling you, we're gonna turn him.

Speaker 1 (20:23):
Just like Patriots fans wanted to turn mac Jones into
Tom Brady, We're gonna turn Noan McLain right into Paul Skeens.

Speaker 3 (20:29):
It's gonna happen.

Speaker 4 (20:30):
Look I like the way you're just going straight for
the positive, you know, Jerry Jones things. Since we're in
baseball for a second, we we missed one story that
was really important. Yesterday, Okay, for the first time since
twenty ten, there was a guy named Bob playing Major
League Baseball. Really, there has not been a Bob since

(20:51):
Bob Howry. And most of the time he was Bobby Howry.

Speaker 3 (20:54):
Yeah. Oh, he was Bobby Howry. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (20:56):
Because he was with a White Sox, he was Bobby
Bobby Howry. And I guess he grew up and he
became a Red Sox and whatever.

Speaker 1 (21:02):
There's nobody name at some point, nobody named Bob, or
no one named Robert that they call Bob. Nobody that
that called himself Bob. Okay, so we've had we've had
we've had Roberts, but no one that's called himself Bob.

Speaker 3 (21:13):
Yeah, but I.

Speaker 4 (21:14):
Mean we had have we had rafts showing how many
Bob's there had been throughout major league history.

Speaker 3 (21:21):
Okay, all right, all right, I did not know that.
How about that kind of weird?

Speaker 4 (21:26):
So to welcome Bob Seymour to Major League Baseball, they
was commemorated on the tops. Now, cart just have fun
with it, goes, Look, name Bob, first guy named Bob.

Speaker 3 (21:36):
Did they have the picture of what's his name? Bob?
From Top Gun Maverick? What's your name, Bob? What's your call? Side?
Just Bob? Oh? Okay, that's great. No, he would have
been good. Right, that's Bill Pullman's kid.

Speaker 1 (21:45):
Right Listen, I'm going to the MCU, all right, So
you can have fun with this whole top gun mat,
but I'm going to the MCU, and I'm gonna be
a big villain, all right, see it.

Speaker 4 (21:52):
Yeah, so you could have done that, or maybe you
just go all the way back and get a tandem Bill,
Bill Murray and Richard Dreyfus.

Speaker 1 (22:00):
So you thought yesterday was good enough with Jerry Jones
and his statement about Micah Parsons that hey, we thought
we had a deal, and when we went to his agent,
the agent said we could stick it up our blank, right.

Speaker 3 (22:13):
I mean, we had so much fun with that yesterday.
Because you know, that was great. Jerry Jones decided, Hey,
that was good. I like that. I want an Encore
on Friday.

Speaker 1 (22:22):
So he goes on ESPN and he gives his updates
on what's going on with Micah Parsons and why Micah
Parsons is unsigned.

Speaker 3 (22:32):
Now there's gonna be two soundbites we're gonna play for you.

Speaker 1 (22:34):
The first one is Jerry Jones deciding I'm gonna go
analogy to explain just why the Micah Parsons deal where
supposedly they met and the two of them agreed on
a deal, and then the agent said, wait, the deal's
not done, and Jerry Jones is upset. Now both sides
hate each other. Here's Jerry Jones' analogy to explain just
exactly how that happened.

Speaker 2 (22:54):
Not doing the old mother, dad.

Speaker 5 (22:57):
Deal, how many times have you seen a little rast
who so clever going there? And Mama told him you're
not going to get it. And goes into Daddy, who
only sees him at the after five and a half
none wants to love him, and says, you can have it, son,
you can have that before dinner. And he goes back
in and says, Mama, Daddy said I can have it.

(23:17):
That's old Mom and dad had been around since the
beginning the time.

Speaker 3 (23:20):
I'm not gonna go for that year.

Speaker 5 (23:22):
That's what's happening.

Speaker 3 (23:25):
I'm gonna make a nice analogy.

Speaker 1 (23:27):
I'm gonna make a nice analogy about a little kid
talking to his parents.

Speaker 3 (23:30):
And then say I'm not going for that blank okay.

Speaker 1 (23:35):
So first thing I want to ask is this. Okay,
So who's who in that analogy? Like I And when
at first start I said okay, then I'm like, no, wait,
I don't know what it is.

Speaker 3 (23:44):
Michaeh. Parson's the kid. Yeah, Michael Parsons is the kid.
He's the kid.

Speaker 1 (23:48):
And he goes to his mom and his mom says, no, okay,
So who's the mom? Is the mom the agent or
is the mom Jerry Jones.

Speaker 4 (23:56):
Because I think I think the mom in this case
has to be Jerry Jones.

Speaker 3 (23:59):
Didn't it well because if the mom.

Speaker 4 (24:01):
But I mean he said he offered him the the
highest dollars of all all time, right, all of that,
so he he wants to give him the candy ahead
of dinner.

Speaker 1 (24:09):
He does, so he's so Jerry Jones is the dad.
So yeah, so let's go and take Jerry to dad.

Speaker 4 (24:14):
So who's MOULI getta has gotta be mom saying no, no, no,
you can't have that.

Speaker 3 (24:19):
That deal is not good enough. So it's a it's
a subpar.

Speaker 4 (24:24):
Food source or energy source or or toy or whatever
you're trying to get.

Speaker 3 (24:30):
But it's just a little rascal.

Speaker 1 (24:34):
But mich remember Alfalfa and Spanky, they would always come out.

Speaker 5 (24:37):
Ah.

Speaker 1 (24:38):
I remember watching that when I was a kid, and
I had come Uh, Alfalfa had the whole thing when
he had the dead fishes his leg and then the
cats all came and was sniffing the fish, and I
was up.

Speaker 3 (24:47):
The butcher wanted to beat him up. I gotta go.

Speaker 1 (24:50):
Sorry, this is uh, this is baby boomer stuff I'm
talking about here now little rascals.

Speaker 3 (24:54):
Uh, but wait, a minute.

Speaker 1 (24:55):
But if the if the mom is the agent, right,
so the agent says no, if Jerry's the dad, and
he says yes, wouldn't Michael. That means Michael Parsons is
listening to Jerry and he's not listening to his agent,
because that's what I've been trying to tell you any
what he wants to listen to Jerry. But if he
but if he was, if he really was, if the

(25:16):
dad was really giving him everything, why wouldn't he say
yes like he wants to? Apparently, if this deal is
the greatest deal ever, this is what Michaeh Parsons wants.
I don't think Mullagetta is the mom. I think Jerry
Jones might be the mom and a dad. Or maybe
Steven is the mom and Jerry's the dad. I don't
I don't get the whole thing. Maybe the sound drop

(25:37):
of him dad. Let me throw this out there. Maybe
Jerry is the kid. Jerry goes to the mom who's
the agent, and says, no, you can't have anything. But
then Jerry goes to the dad, which is Caleb, which
is which is Michael Parsons keleb Boys, which is Michael
Parsons and Micah says, yeah, I'll take that. So, hey, mom,

(25:57):
guess what dad said, I could have it. I mean,
I Thinkry Jones might be the kid in.

Speaker 3 (26:01):
This That's an interesting scenario. I kind of like about that.

Speaker 4 (26:04):
Now. I'm thinking about him in his little dungarese wearing
one of those little throw knit caps on his head
while he's sitting there trying to wow.

Speaker 3 (26:13):
Wow wow wow wow wow. Whoa whoa whoah Wait.

Speaker 4 (26:15):
Who's Darla in this situation? Now we gotta we gotta
figure out the whole cast.

Speaker 3 (26:21):
I mean on this road.

Speaker 1 (26:23):
I remember used to watch Little Rascals when it we
was always on it, like three point thirty in the afternoon,
like in the eight.

Speaker 3 (26:28):
I got that and I got the three Stooges. I
was good. Oh yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (26:32):
So I really think in this scenario, Jerry Jones is
the kid and and Micah Parsons is the dad and
the agent.

Speaker 3 (26:39):
Is the mom. You can't have it, I really, I mean,
you think. But I think that's why.

Speaker 1 (26:45):
I think that's the analogy that he wants to throw
out there, except he said, you know, but I don't
go for that blank. So now if he's saying I
don't go for that blank. Maybe Jerry Jones is the mom.
Jerry could be anybody in this right because the first one,
you think Jerry's the dad, right, second one, I said
Jerry's the kid. But Jerry, by ending saying I don't

(27:06):
go for that blank, tells me that, Okay, who's the
one upset in that situation? The mom is right because
the kid is happy because the dad said okay. The
dad loves the kid, said okay, have whatever you want.
The upset guy, and the upset one is the mom.
Who's the one who's upset right now? It's Jerry Jones.
Jerry could be the kid, or the dad or the
mom in this bleeping thing.

Speaker 7 (27:24):
Jason, I think Jerry's the I mean I think the
agent is the dad and Jerry's the mom.

Speaker 3 (27:30):
Like you said, you think that's what it is, yeah,
because if you.

Speaker 7 (27:32):
Think about it, it's like the agent is the one
who's saying, Okay, yeah, you can have all these guarantees,
you can have all this money you're asking for, when
Jerry the mom just told him no, you can't have that.

Speaker 3 (27:42):
Huh.

Speaker 1 (27:43):
Ian Roddy getting deep into this. You know what, maybe
Jerry's all three. Maybe he's the mom, and the dad
in the kid.

Speaker 7 (27:49):
The mind of Jerry Jones is impossible to dissect, that's
for sure.

Speaker 1 (27:52):
Maybe he is the mom, the dad, and the kid.
That could be what it is. I'm digging that I'm doad,
but I mean, really he could be literally be any
one of those three in the in the scenario.

Speaker 4 (28:02):
Well, now it's a full Christopher Nolan kind of interception.

Speaker 1 (28:05):
At the moment he just stands in front of Stephen A.
Smith and spins the top and you watch it to
see if it falters just a little bit.

Speaker 4 (28:12):
I mean, we're we're quite sure which guy is actually
telling us the story here.

Speaker 3 (28:16):
It's an unreliable narrator. It's a little unusual suct so.

Speaker 7 (28:20):
He just forgot what he was saying in the middle
of his sentence.

Speaker 3 (28:22):
I mean, that would be Jerry. So we got that going.

Speaker 4 (28:24):
I mean, like there there's a million permutations to this
coming out of three characters, but all of it to say.

Speaker 3 (28:31):
I mean, as we we broke down a.

Speaker 4 (28:32):
Bit yesterday, right, Mulligeta a guy who has had his
share of difficult contract negotiations, And what Jerry really kept
coming back to was we don't need the third man
in the room. It's like, well, based on the rules
of engagement with the PA, which really is UH as
we've talked about a fairly useless organization right now with sure, Hey,

(28:54):
who do we actually send this appeal to or you know,
to to have you look into this.

Speaker 3 (28:59):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (29:00):
It's going to a fax machine that's currently unnanned. It's
just piling up. We send it. I mean we're waiting
on confirmation. Yeah, nobody's in that office.

Speaker 3 (29:10):
So look, the takeaway of this is what we have
told you months ago.

Speaker 1 (29:14):
And I love today that a couple people got credit
on social media and on the internet for saying exactly
what we told you a month. This is why we
call the show ahead of the curve. Jerry Jones knows
he can't win on the field. It's a thirty year
track record of I don't know how to build a team.
The only reason we won a Super Bowls because when
I took over his owner, we already had the guys
in there. We had the coach, we had the players,

(29:35):
we had everything right. That's the only reason we won.
It's a thirty year track record of I can't win
on the field, but I went off the field all
the time I went in business, I went in relevancy,
and I went in attention to the Dallas Cowboys.

Speaker 3 (29:49):
Right. We've told you that for a lot.

Speaker 1 (29:51):
Jerry Jones knows he can't win on the field, so
we tries to win off the field. Congratulations to everybody
who stole that and picked it up today. Congratulations. Just
send Mike and I money. At this point, I don't
really care about recognition. Just just send a check and
I'll get it. It'll be like a royalty check, and
I'll put it in my bank account for my kids.
Uh uh for Mike, and I'll put in our back
hounds for for our kids college education.

Speaker 3 (30:10):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (30:10):
This is who Jerry Jones is. He knows we're not
gonna win this season. We're not gonna beat the Eagles.
Why not, not gonna finish out of the commanders most likely?
How do I win? I win now, I win the
battle of relevancy and the Cowboys and the worth of
the organization, and how no matter what kind of year
we have, people still pay attention to Dallas Cowboys more
than anybody else. This is why we're getting what we're
getting with Micah Parsons all summer long.

Speaker 4 (30:32):
Yeah, I mean the continued battle and what's what's real,
what's imagined in terms of this divide. I mean there's
pictures of Jerry Posen for photos with Micah's mom uh
at the game today, so you got that that fun
that kind of flows out as well. But but all
of it to say.

Speaker 3 (30:49):
Right, what where? Where's the divide? Right?

Speaker 4 (30:52):
Other than uh, to some degree, Mulagetta feels like, you know,
he got he got run around a bit. I mean,
if they had in principle, devil in the details. But
I'm gonna make you the highest paid guy non quarterback. Okay, check,
I'm gonna do this.

Speaker 3 (31:09):
Check. It's like, all right, let's go finish out the details.
But because you felt.

Speaker 4 (31:13):
Slighted because remember there's a lot of NFL owners that
don't like movingget it. He was the guy that gave
all the guaranteed money and got all the guaranteed money
for Deshaun Watson.

Speaker 3 (31:22):
Because the Browns being dumb.

Speaker 4 (31:24):
So, I mean, there's always gonna be some antagonism there,
whether you like it or not. Right, that's always gonna
be part of the background, as well as a number
of tough negotiations, hold out situations and others. That have
been orchestrated in the past. But as I've said with
you with the Bengals all along with the hendricks Hendrickson thing,
Mike is a fine player, fantastic player. What's he worth

(31:46):
to the win total? That's the end game here. Great
for headlines, great for us, but in the end, you know,
is he the difference between that Cowboys team winning a
division or not? No exit out about a Fresco exit
swollen Dome. The Jason Smith Show with my best friend

(32:06):
Mike Harmon time, how to find out what's trending in
the wide world of sports of someone who is a
little upset right now because the Padres have just tied
the game with the Dodgers that won apiece.

Speaker 3 (32:15):
It's Monty Blagos.

Speaker 8 (32:16):
Thank you for that, Jason, I figured, so now you.

Speaker 3 (32:19):
Don't have to do the score, thank you. You can
start with the start with the Mets, and no one
looks right, You're right, You're right.

Speaker 2 (32:25):
I don't have to say anything else.

Speaker 8 (32:26):
That's a tie game in San Diego. Your all goodness?
Is it still a tie game? Okay, I'll get back
to that.

Speaker 2 (32:31):
All right, Well, we'll start with your Mets.

Speaker 8 (32:33):
Why not because they had twenty one hits today, Jason
Juan Soto a two run shot. They outscored the Braves
twelve to seven. Nationals held on against the Phillies five
to four. Red Sox edged the Yankees one zero, so
Boston moves past New York for second in the Al East.
There was also a loose squirrel in the fourth inning,
and the Bronx was a lot of fun to watch.
Tigers have won four in a row. They scored four

(32:54):
runs in the seventh inning to beat the Royals seven
to five.

Speaker 2 (32:57):
What's going on right now now?

Speaker 1 (32:58):
With Monty So Basically, it was that it is that
scene from up where the dog is saying, now we
have to squirrel, and everybody stopped and stopped.

Speaker 8 (33:06):
And there's a video and it was like a whole
minute long. They could because it's kind of hard to
catch a squirrel, and they were just letting the squirrel run.
I didn't know where to go.

Speaker 2 (33:14):
It went everywhere, poor little squirrel. I hope they didn't
kill it.

Speaker 8 (33:18):
But I don't know. I don't know what happens in
those situations.

Speaker 3 (33:20):
Guys, right, just say you don't know what happened. I
hope it's not dead. I mean you know, we want
you know, it's a Friday night Manti.

Speaker 8 (33:28):
Losing now, okay, so my positivity is out the window.

Speaker 3 (33:31):
Twins are the one possible dead squirrel.

Speaker 1 (33:35):
Okay, I think more people would be okay with the
Dodgers losing a game in the fourth inning, then oh,
say that cute squirrel.

Speaker 3 (33:40):
Yeah it's dead.

Speaker 2 (33:41):
Yeah, that's alive. It's live, and well it's a live. Well,
there you go.

Speaker 8 (33:45):
Twins are etching the White Sox eight seven, top of
the ninth. Guardians and Rangers are. I think Texas just
may have walked it off. I believe that's what's happening
right now, Rangers against the Guardians because it's bottom of
the ninth. Innian, I see celebration on my screen. Four
three finals score. Brewers have taken the lead from the
Giants four to three, bottom of the eighth, Cubs up
on the Angels to zero, top of the fifth, Reds
edging the Diamondbacks two to one bottom of the third.

(34:08):
A's are beating the Mariners, who have lost four in
a row, one zero. Brent Rooker with the home run
to the top of the third. There and yes, now
the Padres are edging the Dodgers in San Diego two
to one, bottom of the fourth inning. When it comes
to NFL preseason, your Jets may still make this comeback here.

Speaker 3 (34:25):
I know, I so excited.

Speaker 8 (34:27):
And the Eagles Adrian Martinez in at quarterback. Eagles are
up nineteen seventeen with a minute to go, so we'll
see how it goes there. Cowboys on top of the
Falcons twenty four to thirteen early in the fourth quarter.
Brandon Aubrey had a sixty four yard field goal already
in this game. The Titans are on top of the
Vikings twenty to thirteen halfway through the fourth quarter, and
late in the third the Chiefs have extended their lead

(34:48):
over the Bears twenty seven to ten. Patrick Mahomes did
play into the second quarter eight of thirteen, one hundred
and forty three yards and a touchdown pass to Rishie Rice.

Speaker 3 (34:57):
Back to you guys, thanks a bunch.

Speaker 1 (34:59):
Yes, we got more NFL on the way coming up next.
What teams fan base has gone from with deaf Con
one is the easiest one? In def Con five is
the worst one, right.

Speaker 3 (35:13):
I think?

Speaker 1 (35:14):
So whatever it was, whatever whichever def you know what,
what teams fan base is now absolutely on the verge
of melting down after what happened tonight, that's next right here,
Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio.

(36:17):
before we get to that, we have the Play of
the Day. Play the Day, of Course is brought to.

You by tire Rack dot Com.

When you wind up winning your second game in a row,

(36:43):
a big win, and you put an entire fan base's
nerves at the fraying edge, you get to be the
play of the day.

Speaker 9 (36:51):
To two long swings and he pulls it down the
left field, mine down the line, into the corner. Fair ball,
tear him's into the corner, low coast from second in
scores long slams on the break, sit second and gives
the Red Sox the leaded Yankee stadium.

Speaker 3 (37:07):
Two.

Speaker 10 (37:08):
He throws swaging a mess, he got him slider, a
roller stares in and for the second straight night, he
caps off a Red Sox win. The Socks have won
seven straight against these Yankees.

Speaker 1 (37:25):
Red Sox Radio Network on the cult. Where's that panic button?
Yankee fans want that paddic button right now. They are
now looking up at the Red Sox in the standings.
They are a half game behind Boston, who has come
in and won the first two games of this series.
And I'll double down what I said yesterday. I'll triple
down at the Socks win tomorrow. I'll quadruple down on

(37:47):
it if they win again on Sunday. I don't know
if Aaron Boone has a job if the Yankees get
swept by the Red Sox this weekend. It's a tenuous
situation for him, absolutely bit tenuous the entire season, another
year without a championship. Clearly, this has not gone the
way the Yankees hoped it would. They're not gonna win

(38:08):
the Al East. They're hoping to stay in as a
wild card. But look, they've lost nearly fifteen games in
the standings over the course of the last two and
a half months. They are just the Yankees, the Dodgers,
and the Mets. It just re circling the drain. I
don't know that the Yankees end up getting out of
this if they get swept by the Red Sox without
a big change on Tuesday or Monday, because something.

Speaker 3 (38:29):
Has to give.

Speaker 1 (38:30):
And I can't see the Yankees, who already are at
odds with Aaron Boone. They don't like the daily conversation
of how badly suited the Yankees are to play fundamentally,
that's on Aaron Boone. Aaron Judge and Aaron Boone had
a war of words this week over something really innocuous
when Aaron Boone said, Hey, I hope Aaron Judge's arm

(38:51):
is better getting them back in to play the outfield
coming back for an injury. I hope he's gonna be okay.
I hope he's gonna be able to get back, but
maybe not. And Aaron Judge is really mad. I don't
know why Skip puts me. I have no idea.

Speaker 3 (39:01):
What are you saying? What are you doing?

Speaker 1 (39:02):
I don't get it. So that was pretty innocuous. And
here's Aaron Judge, who never says anything, saying I don't
know why Aaron Boone would say, hey, maybe my arm
isn't gonna be back to the point where I can
play the outfield and have that big plus arm like
I've had most of my career.

Speaker 3 (39:19):
The Yankees are not.

Speaker 1 (39:21):
Going to let a Red Sox sweep go by without
something big happening. And if you're gonna get rid of
Aaron Boone at the end of the season, anyway, which
I'm sure the Yankees are going to They're gonna get
to it. And I said it was gonna be late August,
right right around now, like two and a half weeks ago.
Again ahead of the curve two and a half weeks.
So I said, you get to the end of August
if the Yankees are really struggling and they're either looking

(39:42):
up at a wildcard situation or they're in the case
of maybe they could almost be falling out of the
wildcard situation. You got the Royals and the Guardians are
right there. The Mariners are only a game behind, moving
the Yankees back into.

Speaker 3 (39:54):
The third wildcard.

Speaker 1 (39:55):
Overall, this despite the factor on a five game losing streak.
I don't know that Aaron Boone makes it past this
weekend if the Yankees get swept.

Speaker 4 (40:04):
Now, if you're rob Manford better or worse for baseball though,
with all the big spenders, because that's all anybody complained about. Look,
it's so top heavy, it's so terrible, and now they're
all flailing. Is he doing the hey here, you know,
doing that boom thing like he's Denzel Washington laughing at
the world, going this is what it's exactly the opposite

(40:24):
of what you all predicted, So screw you all.

Speaker 3 (40:28):
It would be people. Here's the thing.

Speaker 1 (40:31):
In a perfect world, fans who hate the Yankees would
want them to win the Pennant in the American League
and then lose the World Series in an embarrassingly bad spectacle.
So just like last year, is what everybody would want.
Hey get to the World Series and then show you're
a bunch of little leaguers and have that fifteen against
the Dodgers. That's gonna live forever. That was a perfect
season in baseball. It couldn't go any better. Big market

(40:54):
team won. Yankee threw up on themselves. That's a perfect season.

Speaker 4 (40:57):
Well, this time it's Judge not not catching the ball.
He won't be able to throw it in the air
and boonche See.

Speaker 3 (41:01):
I told you a big story out of the NBA
