An unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection
over ten thousand recommended installers. Tyrac dot com is the
way tire buying should be. Well, this is helen gone
from last night, Mike, I gotta tell you last night
Jets Matsu Suga, tonight, Metza getting killed, Syracuse is losing
at home to Stanford. Boy, this is how the other
(01:01):
half lives. Man, I can only have good things for
so long.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
Well you ride the lightning, buddy, I mean, look, you
had a twenty four hour where you're.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
On top of the world.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
It was almost like you were told you've got twenty
four hours to do whatever you can because they're taking
the world away from you. And damn it, they took
the world away from you, including your Heisman trophy from
Kyle McCord.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
Yeah, he is.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
Making some risky throws, although the Cord just runs into
the end zone for a touchdown, scrambles in from twenty.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
Five yards out.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
That's how you answer throwing a pick six nineteen yard
touchdown run from a Cord Syracuse has cut the Stanford
leading out of twenty to sixteen extra point pending here
in the third quarter.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
Headed to the fourth quarter, he momentarily.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
I like, you were about three seconds ahead of my
feet and he dives into the end zone. Does one
of those I've made a couple of mistakes and a
couple yeah, you're mistakes. So I'm gonna put my body
on the line, read to a tongue of II looa,
and I'm going to dive towards the end zone.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
Shoulder be damned that.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
Whatever happens, I just tweeted out that was my fault
this whole game, guys.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
I'm diving into the end zone.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
Yeah, that was I mean, a nice little scramble, evaded
the potential sack and off he went to the races
towards the corner of the the end zone there. But yeah,
it's been uneven watching two games at once because we've
got Illinois Nebraska getting after it as well.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
Some big plays.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
Some the referees earn their money I think in both
of these games with some of the circumstances.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
Oh yeah, sure, yeah, I mean it's it's become the
hot now, it's it's just gonna be about Okay, we're
gonna blame the referee and now look a couple of
weird calls in these games.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
Obviously was like, all right, what do we got going
out here? Is that a catcher is at an intercept? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (02:49):
Is this really? Is this really roughing the passer? I mean,
come on, is it really roughing? Come on?
Speaker 2 (02:52):
Is it really rough in the passer?
Speaker 3 (02:54):
We see a guy get face masks Clayton as the
nose on his face his head almost does a witting
there Blair exorcist thing, and there's no flag out of
the play.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
It's like he's not in the middle of a bunch
of people. What are we doing.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
You know, I'll tell you you know, and this gets
into what really has been great about the college football
seasons far about some positivity flus here, Okay, you need some.
Let's go Seri syrirac. At least the Braves lost, so
I have. At least the Braves lost the lib Okay,
but I mean, look Nebraska right now, the big game
on Fox, and Nebraska is beating Illinois.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
It's a big top twenty five game.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
Look at Illinois in the top twenty five, U seventeen
to ten. They just started the second the second half.
Ryola already has a couple of touchdown passes. He's thrown
for one hundred and fifty yards. You know, Nebraska, I
hope they're on their way back from sports Stonehenge. You know,
like all those teams I tell you that, you know,
you see Stonehenge, you go south, Well, I to go
see it.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
We went to the UK a couple a couple of months.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
Ago, and you know, I teams are teams and schools
are in sports Stonehenge. Where you go see Stonehenge, nobody
really knows why it's significant, what it is, and you
don't really know. You look at it and you know, okay,
it was built long ago, but nobody really knows why.
And you kind of have an idea of what the
stones are for, but nobody knows how they were built
(04:11):
and why. Really, so many people go, it's you know,
that's Nebraska football. I know, people talk about Nebraska with
some reverence, and I hear people that are you know,
you know in the millennials and generation extras talk about
Nebraska football like it was really something. No, because they've
been in sports Stonehenge. They were once incredibly relevant, but
it's been so long nobody knows why anymore. But now
(04:34):
maybe they're on their way back. Right, This would be
a win that would put them four and zero, probably
would leap into the right right around fifteen, depending on
how the rest of this week goes in college football.
And you know, it's just a microcosm of why this
season has been so great so far because for certain sports,
when heritage teams do well, it means an incredible amount
(04:56):
of interest.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
Right.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
NFL it doesn't really matter, right because we follow the
star everywhere. NBA, it doesn't matter, we follow the stars everywhere.
But for baseball and college football, when the heritage teams
play well, it's just different. It's a different type of
ingesting of the product, and there's more interest in the
playoff in the season. You know, if a team like
the Rays gets into the ALCS, it's not nearly as
(05:19):
interesting as a team like the Orioles getting in the
ALCS because of the heritage and the fun and the
remembrance that we have of years past and great Orioles teams. Right,
if the Reds were to ever get really good and
get in the playoffs, boy, they would be fun. But
that's what this college football season is because you look
at the teams that are peppering the top fifteen, and
it's Texas, Georgia, Ohio State, Alabama, Tennessee, Miami, Penn State, USC, Oklahoma,
(05:47):
like ten of the top fifteen are all big time
heritage programs that have been good at least on and off.
You know, no one's great forever for the last forty years,
like USC is probably the most lately Johnny come lately
these because they've been really good since the early two thousands, which, okay,
you're talking about twenty five years. College football is always
better when these are the teams that are there, the
(06:08):
upstart teams that jump in just not as interesting. They
just don't have the mass appeal, the wide ranging interest
that the rest of these schools have. And I'll tell
you it's fun seeing Texas up there at number.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
One, right, I mean, everybody who grew up.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
With Texas football and being so good and you get
into the Vince Young aspect and then suddenly it's been wow,
where has Texas been?
Speaker 2 (06:29):
What's have Texas been? Up and down?
Speaker 1 (06:31):
These are the teams where every week when the interest
level in them just generally is a higher rated thing.
Like I know that you know Colorado Colorado States, that's
a huge thing, you know, because of Deon Sanders. And
once Colorado starts losing, you know, they lose their popularity.
But at the interest level in that is artificial. You know,
these other teams that are jumping in, like if a
(06:53):
Oklahoma State or you know, like I said, Utah, Missouri, Oregon, Ole,
miss like these are all really good, but they don't
have the drawing power of these heritage teams. Baseball and
college football more than any other sport, they succeed and
are more popular and have more relevancy when it's the
heritage teams that are playing extremely well and when the
(07:14):
other teams do.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
It's just not quite the same.
Speaker 3 (07:16):
Well, especially when you look at the way college football
has now changed. Right, college basketball, we've long had the
one and done. But for college football, it's say, you
might have a guy go to three different teams, four
different teams at this point, all right, he's gonna lose
his job. Are bounce plus COVID years plus injury years.
We got guys applying for you know, medical red shirts
(07:37):
for year eight and things of that. Whereas you go
back in the history of Texas football, you know, we're
going back to Darryl Royal. We're going back to Mac
Brown on that sideline. He's still coaching. I have a
picture with him from many many years ago. I was
so young and lean boy. But you know when he
used to come out for the East West Shrine game,
(07:58):
go and talk to the coaches, they were all great
saban when he was just leaving Michigan State to go
to LSU and LSU's just outside the top fifteen. You
got Notre Dame. They had their hiccup. But guess what
the way this system works and the way it all flows.
Now that you've got a twelve team playoff suddenly they're
still fighting and relevant and we obviously know their history
(08:20):
along the way Nebraska. I mean, we talked about it
a couple of weeks ago, the kids in the stands
with the signs going, So this is the team my
dad told me about. You know, all of those kinds
of things, right.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
Tell me stories about Mike Rosier and heavily would run
from one end of the field to the other in
eight seconds flat.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
But it's the continuity.
Speaker 3 (08:42):
Right back then, a guy committed to your school, barring
rare circumstances, they weren't leaving, so you got to know them.
And it's one of the things we've always loved about
college football and baseball to a degree because you always
had longer term, guaranteed contracts and you had arm systems.
So you read about these guys and your local broadcasters
(09:04):
would be pumping them up, going, ah, they're coming, They're coming.
And for a lot of teams that's not certainly.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
Not the case.
Speaker 3 (09:10):
But now you know a lot of minor league systems
are nothing. But uh, you know, farm like Salmon Farming's like.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
Hey, we need some we need some of your prospects.
Let's go.
Speaker 3 (09:22):
So it's it's that kind of mentality and and why
we get nostalgic and and for Texas when you see
those massive crowds. You know, my cousin that was in
last week, her daughter just started instead of saying, Hey,
I'm at the football game. Check out me with my friends.
There's the band. No, she was stalking.
Speaker 2 (09:39):
McConaughey on the side. There he is. I think that's
gund and Paul walking next to him.
Speaker 1 (09:44):
You know that guy, right, all right, all right guy.
Oh I got to get a picture with him. Okay,
that's him.
Speaker 3 (09:48):
Okay, Yeah, So you know, find finding that the minister
of culture. That's what I want to be. I want
to be the Minister of That's a great nickname. Man,
that is a great nickname, Evanston, and be that guy
in my next life. But but but it's that thing.
It's that continuity, the pageantry of it all. And when
we get to do these montages of greats, and and
(10:08):
let's face it, every home game they're celebrating somebody. Yeah,
somebody's walking out to midfield, the class of this new
Hall of famers. Hey remember he scored three touchdowns against
this team fifty years ago.
Speaker 1 (10:21):
I firmly believe you could make a guy up and
everybody would clatform guy that just bring out some guy
and say, oh, and who can forget his performance in
the nineteen thirty eight Cotton Bowl where he ran for
four touchdowns and threw for anough and somebody's granddad that
can wave to everybody like, yeah, remember that game. My
dad tells me about that game that was going. You
(10:42):
might even be able to go back into the seventies
before people would realize, hey, wait a minute, now, wait
a minute.
Speaker 2 (10:46):
I don't know about that guy. The only guy I
remember that football that's gonna get you his Hartman. I
don't know.
Speaker 3 (10:51):
I don't know Steve Hartman going back into the box
scores and trying to match stuff up. He might screw
you over.
Speaker 1 (10:57):
I've done that seventy or six Cotton Bowl, Texas dam
we were playing that cotton ball. No left have a
guy that threw for three touchdowns. I did not hunt,
did not wait a minute, but I'll clap hey, yeah, great, great.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
For a movie. He's a character they made up. But
I mean, it's it's just that kind of thing.
Speaker 3 (11:16):
It's like they trot out to midfield, they doffed their
little caps. Everybody gets excited, the band plays something, and you're.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
Ready for the second half kickoff.
Speaker 1 (11:25):
Now that being said, right about how great this college
football season is, we're getting set for look the big
there's a couple of huge stories in college football that
just dwarf everything else. This weekend and arch Manning getting
his first start for Texas tomorrow was another one. Look
you look at how he did coming in relief last
week and all the touchdowns he put on the board.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
He's faster than Tyreek Hill. All about that one.
Speaker 1 (11:46):
Arch Manning has arrived because Quinn Ewers is hurt and oh,
by the way, how about Quinn you weres? In the
same week he potentially ascended to be the Heisman favorite
while also losing his job. I don't know that that's possible,
but it seems like it might be for Quinn yours. Look,
I'll say this as much as I said all heritage programs.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
What a great.
Speaker 1 (12:03):
Season we have. We have twelve playoff teams. It's outstanding.
We may wind up with a really boring college football
playoff because right now Texas is head and shoulders above everybody.
They are absolutely loaded. This is the best Texas team
that they've had. Since Vince Young was running all around
the Rose Bowl on USC. It doesn't matter who plays quarterback.
(12:23):
It doesn't matter if it's Quinn Viewers, it doesn't matter
if it's Arch Manning. It doesn't matter if it's Major
Apple White. It makes no difference. They'll be able to
manage this this year because they're gonna keep winning games,
and arch Manning is like, Okay, I know, I'm gonna
wait my turn.
Speaker 2 (12:37):
Quinn, Youwers will get the job back. Eventually.
Speaker 1 (12:39):
They will be able to navigate. That's not gonna be
a problem. All this fake stuff going on this week.
Oh what happens when yours is healthy? Yeah, Arch Manning
knows it's my first year. It's cool if Quinn Eewers comes.
We've seen this before. We've seen guys split jobs at quarterback,
Guys get hurt, guys come in and play. I watch
Washington win a national title with Billy Joe Hobert instead
of Mark Burnell, so you know' you know what happens.
Speaker 2 (12:58):
Guy.
Speaker 1 (12:58):
Teams can do that. This Texas team is so loaded.
I don't know any team right now that I could
put up on the field against them and say they're
gonna give them a really close game. Look, Georgia showed
clearly they got some stuff to work on last week.
Maybe they're not as dynamic as we thought they were.
Ohio State the same way, and Texas is just rolling
through people. Yes, it's the early part of the schedule.
(13:19):
Going into Michigan with a pretty good defense and winning
by twenty, that's.
Speaker 2 (13:22):
A big deal.
Speaker 1 (13:23):
But we're gonna see over the course of the next
few weeks it is gonna beat Texas and you watch,
They're gonna have They're gonna beat Oklahoma, they're gonna beat Georgia,
They're gonna beat these teams. They're gonna beat Texas, A
and M at the end of the year and it's
gonna be.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (13:35):
Here is Texas number one with a bullet and I
would be stuck right now. I'm stunned if they're not
in the National Championship and the team that wins it all,
I'm surprised if that's not the case.
Speaker 3 (13:44):
By your fun part for your Heisman Trophy, watch cam
Ward plus four fifty arch Manning at sixteen to one,
followed by Will Howard and Miller Moss each at twenty
to one. So there's that, you know, Georgia is a
squad that one. It's all said and done, I'm not worried.
(14:06):
Give it time that and we'll have the battle of attrition,
I mean the fact that yours has to step down
and the rise of Manning begins. And you could hear
folks already going, there's another one, there's another one. I
thought we were done with this because it because it's
cycled under right, because it was the Quinn Yours story
and and everything was good, uh, and the only thing
(14:28):
in the circling in the background is so Arch gonna
stay or he gonna go, you know that kind of thing.
So yeah, it's just fun that up at the top
that we have some of these perennial heavyweights, uh, that
are ready to battle it out. I mean Ohio State,
they're gonna put up points. But you're rolling through a
schedule that has some heavy weights on it as well.
(14:50):
So I think that's that's gonna be fun to watch.
They still got uh they've got a three game stretch
that has at Oregon home against Nebraska and then at
penns State, So it's certainly gonna be battle tested. We'll
find a lot out a lot about them in the
middle to back end of October.
Speaker 2 (15:06):
Not to mention, they've got Iowa at home.
Speaker 3 (15:08):
Iowa doesn't score, but they're they're pain in the ass,
and they'll muddy it up just enough to normalize you
at least for a week. But you know all that said,
give me the twelve teams. Folks are already lamenting it, Jason.
You know that from day one. Watch it's gonna be
a bus This is gonna be terrible. They're gonna have
two lots. It's like, there's more meaningful football in November.
(15:31):
Just you know, grab it, hug it, and be done
with those like you know my scroll today, everybody trying
to discount everything Otani's.
Speaker 2 (15:37):
Done this year.
Speaker 3 (15:38):
Yeah, we'll find someone to hug you. Okay, find a hug,
take a nice warm bath, order a sandwich.
Speaker 2 (15:47):
I don't know. Same thing with college football. The fact
that there.
Speaker 3 (15:51):
May be two lost, three loss teams fighting their way
for the back end of the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (15:56):
Good.
Speaker 3 (15:57):
We got a bunch of extra weeks of football that matter,
even if one game.
Speaker 1 (16:01):
Doesn't excell about a Fresca exit swollen down The Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon, the Minister
of Culture Mike.
Speaker 2 (16:10):
Harmon, who on the show tonight.
Speaker 1 (16:13):

Speaker 3 (16:31):
Give him more burnt orange stuff. You've got enough orange.
Now we need the burnt orange on top of it.
Speaker 2 (16:36):
Let's go.
Speaker 1 (16:37):
I need some kind of other orange because I just
watch Kyle McCord telegraph a pass that Stanford picks off
first play of the fourth quarter for Syracuse. Another pick
for Kyle McCord, and Stanford now has the football at
midfield with a three point lead. This is again, it's
a far cry from last night for me, Mike.
Speaker 3 (16:56):
I'll tell you what gives a man a go route
he's got he can outrun about to the edge there, right,
I mean, instead throws throws just to the sticks looking
for him to sit down and turn back, and instead
an easy interception.
Speaker 1 (17:09):
Oh man, I don't know if these are heat check throws.
For Kyle McCord or what man, But dude, you got
can't can't win games like this. Man can't do it.
Speaker 3 (17:18):
All the good will is gone right Hey, he's in Syracuse.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
Sit now he's a stun again.
Speaker 3 (17:23):
And you were all Kyle, Kyle, Kyle kW blank you

Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon Live from the Time wreckt on cop Studios.
Speaker 2 (20:29):
A lot of people saying that after last night, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (20:32):
Oh yeah, sure, yeah, well hey, did or did I
tell you Jets are gonna win, They're gonna cover and
take the under. I told you everything, I told you everything, everything.
Just listen, just listen to me, Listen to me.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
But under was never in doubt either, not not even I.
Speaker 1 (20:49):
Knew the under was hitting in the first drive of
the game. Okay, New England is not getting anywhere. Okay
they they're just not getting anywhere on this defense, right.
Speaker 3 (20:56):
I do like the fact that we were on it
in the moment that it had happened. Here's the play
that's gonna embody all of the arguments of why Drake
May should never get off the bench, and it was
his little scramble where he gotta got away, had a
guy at his foot and then got planted. Yeah, that's
now a meme for Hey, life is going going great
(21:16):
for you.
Speaker 2 (21:17):
Just know that truck is just around the corner.
Speaker 1 (21:20):
I mean, look, they could have tried to run another
player two to get in the end zone, but it's like, no,
we don't want to do that.
Speaker 2 (21:25):
Let the clockhead zero.
Speaker 1 (21:26):
We're gonna doesn't matter, twenty four to three, ten doesn't matter.
Speaker 2 (21:30):
Just style points here, let's go.
Speaker 1 (21:32):
I realized maybe we should not have put Drake May
in the football game.
Speaker 2 (21:35):
Okay, that's on me.
Speaker 1 (21:36):
It's a drawn mail saying okay, not gonna make a
not gonna make a bad decision worse, So good move
by them there. Now, speaking of big decisions, we got
a big injury update here before we take a look
at one of the big NFL games of the week.
Speaker 2 (21:48):
Justin Herbert is now.
Speaker 1 (21:50):
I would say, I mean it's he's officially questionable, but
it seems worse than that. You know, he may not
play like a big highly anticipated under this Sunday between
the Chargers and the Steelers. No, definitely, I mean the
under might go down to twenty if Herbert can't play.
He's diagnosed with a high ankle sprain, and he says
the pain in his ankle right now is not great.
(22:13):
But it's only Friday, and his playing status is yet
to be decided.
Speaker 2 (22:17):
Now. Normally I hear high ankle sprain and I go, okay,
that's gonna.
Speaker 1 (22:20):
Be a few weeks. So maybe it's a it's a
really minor high ankle sprain, but it's a high ankle sprain.
Just for this week, there's something cagey happening with all
of the injury things going on with the charges right now,
because Jim Harbaugh said, well, if if if Justin Herbert
can't start, Easton Stick will start, and then he backed
off of that and Toad No, I don't know what's
gonna happen. I don't know what we're gonna do if
Justin can't play. I mean, maybe he's holding out hope
(22:42):
and maybe he can convince his head coaches, other coaches. Hey,
if Justin can't go, you've seen me throw it in practice, right,
you know I could still do it. I can suit up, right,
I'm not gonna take a game check. I'll suit up
and I'll make sure that we are ready to go.
I know, I know the offense, I know everything. I mean, really,
do you want to me out there? Come on, man, Rah,
I'll go play. I'd love to have just one more
(23:03):
game man, just one more game, let me let me
do more opportunity.
Speaker 2 (23:07):
I played for this team before I could do it.
Speaker 3 (23:09):
It's a big spot against the two and oh Steelers squad.
So yeah, certainly some excitement to be had there when
we look at, you know, a game that will be
a field goal kicking contest call as well versus Dicker
the kicker long before Herbert's injury update today. But you know,
truthfulness and injury reports, with all the billions of dollars
(23:31):
of betting going along, they can't have this right They also,
you know, just in a in a related injury story,
mentioned Tua in the last segment.
Speaker 2 (23:40):
He's on the plane going to be with the team.
Is that right? Is he can fly? I don't.
Speaker 3 (23:46):
I don't know that that's advised that recently after a concussion.
Speaker 1 (23:50):
But I gotta believe the doctors he's not playing. I
gotta believe he's been cleared to fly.
Speaker 2 (23:54):
I don't think.
Speaker 1 (23:55):
I mean, look, Nick Riviera is not the guy making
these decisions, you know, for the.
Speaker 2 (23:58):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (23:59):
I'm still he can sit home, he'll be fine. He
can get PEP talks via zoom.
Speaker 1 (24:04):
If I said to you, if it's the big question
for this game. If I said to you Charger Steelers, okay, yeah,
if the over under for touchdowns, I put at two
and a half total total touchdowns total touchdowns in this.
Speaker 2 (24:20):
Game, two and a half. What are you taking? I'll
take the over, you'll take you'll take three touchdowns between it?
Well take three this right?
Speaker 3 (24:26):
Okay, they take a couple of big runs. Okay, maybe
we get another big JK. Dobbins run. Gave a little
red zone magnificence from uh, I don't know, Quinton Johnston.
And then uh, you know, we start yelling mooth with
Friar Mooth getting some love. Uh no, it's not gonna
be pretty.
Speaker 2 (24:47):
I mean, what was it? It was thirty five and
a half when no, now it's down to Now it's
down to thirty four and a half.
Speaker 3 (24:51):
Okay, so we lost the point with the the high
ankle sprain admission.
Speaker 2 (24:56):
Yeah, he's out. I mean, what thirty one? It'll be
worth four points probably you think thirty one? Wow, that's
really low man.
Speaker 3 (25:08):
Actually, I'm gonna I'm gonna text Furman right now and
see how quickly I can get.
Speaker 2 (25:12):
A respects really low wow.
Speaker 1 (25:15):
Okay, all right, so you'll take uh, just just for
grins and giggles, I'll take the under. I'll take the
under of total touchdowns in that gal total under take
two touchdowns, give touchdowns, total touchdowns total in the goal,
total touchdowns in the game.
Speaker 3 (25:31):
Yes, total touch Herbert doesn't play How low does.
Speaker 2 (25:37):
Over under get?
Speaker 6 (25:38):
All?
Speaker 2 (25:38):
Right?
Speaker 3 (25:38):
Well, see how quickly he response, because no doubt he's
invested in your Syracuse of course.
Speaker 2 (25:43):
Of course.
Speaker 1 (25:44):
Now let's take a look at one of the big
games of the week in the NFL. And I gotta
be honest, it's gonna be another long week for the Cowboys.
Speaker 2 (25:52):
It it really is. Uh.
Speaker 1 (25:55):
Baltimore is gonna is gonna come into Dallas and they
are gonna thump them, and it's gonna be a big deal.
And everybody's gonna wonder what just happened to the Dallas Cowboys?
Speaker 3 (26:04):
Right?
Speaker 2 (26:04):
We know how good they are as a front running team.
Speaker 1 (26:06):
They get absolutely punched in the mouth last week and
you think, Okay, they're coming back this week. They'll be
focused there. No, the Ravens are zero and two. They
are looking for answers and this is gonna be a
Lamar Jackson game. And I mean where he throws for
three touchdowns, he runs for two, he runs for one
hundred and twenty yards, and he does it all by himself.
Baltimore is gonna run it a ton on Sunday and
(26:28):
Dallas isn't gonna be able to stop them.
Speaker 2 (26:30):
They're gonna smash mouth them.
Speaker 1 (26:31):
I mean, both teams are gonna score, you know, because
this is not the Ravens defensive. You know, this is
not your older brother's Ravens defense. They're really vulnerable. I'm
sure it'll be a little bit of pitch and catch
with Dak Prescott and Ceedee Lamb, but it's not quite
as bad as it's made out to be. Dak is
gonna turn it over because it's what he does, and
they are gonna just crush Dallas in this. They're gonna
(26:52):
get out to a big lead, and I'm looking at
something like thirty eight forty two, twenty seven that Baltimore
winds up beating Dallas. They put a ton of points
on the board. They get through all the frustration that's
plagued them the first two weeks. Blowing a big lead
to the Raiders in the fourth quarter is still sticking
in there in their mouths. They're gonna come in and
it's gonna be a physical football game, and it's gonna
(27:12):
be all Lamar Jackson, give me Baltimore doing this to
the Cowboys, and suddenly on Monday morning, it's gonna be
Oh boy, maybe the Cowboys do stink.
Speaker 2 (27:21):
Sweet. We told you that last week. The Cowboys might
just stink. Oh what's wrong with the cap? Can they
get by?
Speaker 1 (27:25):
Look at all these bad decisions, And it's gonna be cowboy, cowboy,
cowboy cowboy post mortem. I'll take the Ravens in a big,
big offensive game Sunday. And I told you last night
when we talked, when we did our stuff for DraftKings,
Lamar Jackson number one point total fantasy for quarterbacks this week,
and I know he's always in the top five. Wherever
he's ranked. He will finish with the most points of
(27:46):
any quarterback this week.
Speaker 3 (27:48):
All right, So we've seen the line move two and
a half points. It was Dallas minus one. Now it's
Ravens either given a point or a point and a
half depending on where you're shopping. And our total sits
at a robust forty seven, so some points expected in
this one. I did get an update from Furman I'll
get back to that in a minute. The big thing
(28:08):
for me here is that trying to find a win
in the receiving core for Dallas, right because Cede Lamb.
One of the lamentations in Baltimore long before the season
even began, was that they don't have a shutdown corner.
So when they face guys like CD Lamb, it becomes
the all right, he'll get his let's shut the rest
of it down. Bigger thing for Dallas is they'll get
(28:29):
Jake Ferguson back and that's all fine and good, and
Brandon Cooks pops up on the air. But right now
they're expected results in the run game, they're woefully below
those right of just being average at running back. I
don't know if suddenly they're gonna find some old version
of Dalvin Cook and he pops through as a hero,
but otherwise, you know, they're down in distance is a problem, right,
(28:51):
A lot of changes that need to happen. That offensive
line is not as good as it once was. And defensively,
you know, Parsons called everybody out. Probably should look in
the mirror a little bit too in terms of his
you know, gap integrity at times and what he's being
asked to do. But all in, Yeah, this is a
big spot for the Ravens. Derrick Henry more and more
(29:14):
trust on him. I think Lamar runs a bunch in
this game. I think you're gonna see a lot of
design plays. Uh, chase me down the line, see if
they can get some guys tripping over their tongues by
the third fourth quarter. So yeah, give me the Ravens
to roll this up. And then Jerry Jones having to
kind of explain his offseason team building once again.
Speaker 1 (29:35):
Well, when I said all in, I meant, uh, we
were all in until I decided, well, I can't wait
anymore and I gotta pay DAK and CD so I
can watch these guys at least do some fun stuff
while we lose. And you know, gotta have fun while
you're watching the game. You know, can't just be like
the Smith kid on the radio that drinks died coke
and yells out Rogers all the time. You know, I
(29:56):
gotta have something. We gotta do something so when we lose,
at least if we score or some points, I'm feeling
pretty good.
Speaker 2 (30:01):
What was the question? Again? Nicely done?
Speaker 3 (30:04):
All right, So here's the response from our guy, Todd
Furman Bet the Board podcast.
Speaker 1 (30:09):
Oh wow, that's a fast response you got. It's like
you have him on retainer.
Speaker 2 (30:14):
That was nice. Okay, we go back a long way.
Brother on a Friday.
Speaker 3 (30:18):
I know he's locked in watching games and you know,
a little live action, no doubt, as we have some
activity there in the big ten. But he says thirty
three and a half. Maybe it might move another point,
but thirty four is one of those key numbers. He
didn't give me the full long thing. I'll go find
the article to tweet out to everybody. But you know,
when you push through different metrics looking at the history
(30:40):
of the NFL, getting any lower than that, it becomes
a dis you know, a very difficult proposition. He goes,
even though he can see it's quote stick as a
walking disaster. So all that to be said, there won't
be that much more movement. It's some of that injury
is already baked into the cake. Is part of it, right,
(31:03):
because you knew he was already a little bit injured
and all that and caginess. But when he comes out
and says, hi, ankle sprain, I wonder how much that
moves the needle, Well, there's your answer.
Speaker 2 (31:17):
I'm telling you, man, the Ravens are gonna score forty
on the Cowboys. And it's good.
Speaker 1 (31:21):
They're they're getting all their frustrations because this is still
a good team and they have not played well. And
I told the beginning, sometimes you lose a game, and
even though it's week one, it can stick with you
and you don't finish other games because you're still playing
that game. And they couldn't really reconcile the fact they
lost that game to the Chiefs.
Speaker 2 (31:38):
And look what happened.
Speaker 1 (31:39):
You blow a lead to the Raider, you blow lead
to Gardner Minshew, man, come on, guys, come on, well,
by all counts, I mean, by all stats and all probabilities,
they should be two and oh right, and not from
the Isaiah likely catch.
Speaker 3 (31:50):
It was more just the way that the game flow
had been leading through that. So uh, there's that in
a you know, a couple of bucks so by you
coke out of a vending machine. But it's just the
idea that you know, I I you know the expectation
of better results. And look, it's great in week three
that the schedule makers bless us with Sky is falling
(32:12):
Radio on Monday one.
Speaker 2 (32:14):
Way or the other. Eh, I'm telling me that give
me the Ravens. Rave would both like the Ravens to
smash the Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (32:20):
But speaking of results, you want results, there's one man
who can give them to us right now. He's a
guy who comes every day. I see him, says, just watch.
Nebraska's getting back to national prominence this year.
Speaker 2 (32:32):
It's special delivery. Steve Sager with what's trending?
Speaker 7 (32:35):
Actually have it?
Speaker 2 (32:36):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (32:36):
But they're back. Yeah, so's Texas. Just for the record,
you talked about the Steelers. The great, great stat from
AP this past week is that Mike Tomlin, when his
team scores one offensive touchdown or less, still has a
winning record in his career. The rest of the NFL
as a winning percentage of two twenty seven in that
(32:57):
situation since he got hired. So yeah, it might be
low scoring and they might be winning, yet again, that's awesome.
Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson is questionable with a string calf.
Quarterback Justin Fields expected to start again. Chargers quarterback Justin
Herbert questionable with a high ankle. Spring Ravens gave running
back Justice Hill a two year extension. Raiders pass rusher
(33:19):
Malcolm Coontz will have season ending knee surgery. Houston Texans
running back Joe Mixon is doubtful for Sunday with an
ankle injury, and forty nine Ers tight end George Kittle
is doubtful with a hamstring injury. On Fox TV Friday
Night college Football Battle of three and oh teams and
They're Big ten opener, It's number twenty four Illinois now
tied again at twenty second rank Nebraska seventeen all as
(33:41):
the alni I just scored late third quarter. Meanwhile, five
minutes left in the game and Stanford still leads at
Syracuse twenty three seventeen. The late game first quarter has
Washington State leading, now tied seven to seven with San
Jose State. The seventy six Ers gave Joel Embiid a
three year MAXIC extension to Major League Baseball. Top of
(34:02):
the eleventh, the Twins are tied one to one at
the Red Sox, Houston holding on nine to seven over
the Angels in the bottom of the seventh inning, Mariners
winning eight to two at Texas. In the ninth, Arizona's
winning seven to four at Milwaukee top of the eighth,
but the Royals are getting shut out at home Giants
two nothing at Kansas City. In the bottom of the
ninth Philadelphia with the Mets twelve to two. Alec Baum
(34:25):
four hits, including a three run homer, but Atlanta loss.
Miami beat him four to three, so the Brave is
still two games out of the last NL wildcards bought
and Baltimore defeated Detroit seven to one. The Orioles hit
five home runs in the first six innings. Yes, Anthony
Santander hit went out his forty third hit.
Speaker 1 (34:42):
This one every day future Mets outfielder Anthony sent ten there.
Speaker 2 (34:47):
Y'all give him a bunch of money at the end
of this year.
Speaker 7 (34:49):
I guess actually, I think he only hits them on
weeknights when your show is on.
Speaker 1 (34:53):
Oh that's we're on Monday through Friday.
Speaker 2 (34:56):
I'm fine with that problem. That's all right, by the way.
Speaker 7 (34:59):
With Dodgers have a bullpen game going tonight because as
we well know, they don't have five starting pitchers, so
they're down one nothing against the Rockies. Bottom of the
second Joe Kelly gave up the one and got out
of a bass loaded jam again. Bottom of the second inning,
Back to you.
Speaker 1 (35:13):
Thank you, Steve, O hey, really quick, just just because
I know when you when you use a proper terminology.
If the Steelers win nine to six, is that a blowout?
I mean, can you say Steelers blow out the Chargers
nine to six and that charge would be accurate.
Speaker 7 (35:28):
Was nine to seven early fourth quarters, So that might
be what you get.
Speaker 2 (35:32):
I'll go with it.
Speaker 8 (35:32):
Sure, yeah, go with it.
Speaker 2 (35:34):
Okay, well we'll run with that, all right, all right,
very good.
Speaker 3 (35:36):
Get in there and sell, sell, sell, because you don't
know what's failing following right now the Straelers with a
blowout and then and then you give the score and
people have to I mean you either way, you.
Speaker 2 (35:48):
Hook them in. Thank you, Steve.
Speaker 1 (35:51):
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carmen
live from the Ti rack dot Com Studios, coming up next. Okay,
we're getting into a big weekend of the NFL Week
three and everybody is going crazy for this one quarterback
and it's time to.
Speaker 2 (36:05):
Just ease back. Always it by guys, ease back on this.
That's next right here, Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 8 (36:14):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app Fox.
Speaker 1 (36:25):
Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon. Yeah, Live from the Tireck dot Com Studios
Syracuse and Stanford coming down to at Kyle McCord a
touchdown pass to give the Orange the lead twenty four
to twenty three, but Stanford near midfield a couple minutes
(36:46):
left to go, which would be a huge upset in
college football. Meanwhile, Nebraska trying to make their way back
from sports Stonehenge heats Illinoy twenty four to seventeen. They
do have it second in goal on the line, and
I won another score here early in the fourth quarter,
Nebraska would have a two touchdown lead. If we'll have
more on these games coming up, we got Peak fu
(37:08):
Tech joining us following the end of Nebraska Illinois for
all the big action tomorrow. But uh, let me, let
me let me say this, corect This is a story
that we haven't had a chance to really get into
it all week because of various things happening right various
other stories. But yes, he's the toast of the town
right now, and I get this, and I know there's
a lot of people my social media going, you won't
talk about him, you won't talk about okay, what you've.
Speaker 2 (37:30):
Been ducking it. No, Sam Donald has played well.
Speaker 1 (37:36):
Okay, Sam Donald has played well. In fact, I fully
expect the Vikings to win this week. I am not
I am not saying well, it was one pass against
the forty nine ers for da No.
Speaker 2 (37:48):
No, Sam Darnald has played well. He has. I have
seen this before.
Speaker 1 (37:56):
I remember, I'm old enough to remember when they started
three and in Carolina and it was the Jets don't
know what to do with quarterbacks. And look at Darnald
finally freed up in Carolina. Look at what he's doing
with this offense, and by the middle of the season he.
Speaker 2 (38:11):
Lost his job. Okay, I've seen it. I've seen this
from Sam Donald before.
Speaker 1 (38:16):
I've seen him play well for a very short period
of time, and I've seen him go back to being
Sam Donald. So I'm not saying he's not playing well,
because he is. But at the same time, look, I mean,
it's not suddenly where all of a sudden he's gonna
be great. I know we've seen it a few times.
Speaker 2 (38:31):
We expect.
Speaker 1 (38:32):
Oh well, Gino Smith, it took him ten years so,
and he's great now great.
Speaker 2 (38:36):
Baker Mayfield took him a couple of teams to get.
Speaker 1 (38:38):
To now he's got Yeah, okay, I understand that Baker
Mayfield has had a way better career overall than Sam
Donald has had way better career, way better Gino Smith.
That took him a bleep in decade man to get
his starting job again. This wasn't where he left the Jets.
And then the next stop was, Hey, I'm gonna stop
put my I'm gonna drop my bags right here and
be good. Sam Donald is playing well, but I've seen
(38:59):
it once. You're gonna get like three or four games
on tape with Sam Donald and the Vikings. Things are
gonna start getting back to normal. If he's still doing
this week eight, Week nine, I'll be the first guy
to say, wow, I am sorry. Donald's the latest guy
look at him. But that's what's going to happen, right,
because Sam Donald is not suddenly great, right. He wasn't
(39:20):
even gonna be the quarterback. He was signed to be
a bridge guy. They drafted JJ McCarthy. He's only gonna
be playing for the season because McCarthy is out for them.
Speaker 2 (39:28):
That's fine.
Speaker 1 (39:29):
So it's not suddenly where oh Sam, we're saying we
can do stuff with Sam Donald nobody else to know.
You got him to be a bridge to get to
your next quarterback.
Speaker 2 (39:37):
Right. It's great that he's won.
Speaker 1 (39:39):
The first couple of games and he's got more talented
receivers than he's ever had. I agree with that, But
if he's still doing this week eight, I'll be the
first guy to say, you know what, No, I was wrong.
I got Sam's great, but like I saw it with Carolina,
and it's gonna happen again this time.
Speaker 2 (39:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (39:53):
I think one of the things that needs to be
considered with this is that you're also playing with a
more complete roster and a tea that has balance, right,
because we know with Flores's defense, they're gonna terrorize some people.
And that's what I think a lot of folks are
banking on this week, right, that that Houston CJ.
Speaker 2 (40:09):
Stroud, that they'll be able to speed up the process.
Speaker 3 (40:11):
Still young quarterback, and maybe Sam can go over and
tell them, hey, it'll get better, You'll get through this.
Don't worry, you know, just you know, worry, don't get
hit so much and all the things. See what I
did there, But you got Houston, you got at Green Bay,
and then you've got the game against the Jets in London.
Speaker 2 (40:28):
I mean, tell you, tell tell me. You don't want
to come in and watch that with me live on
air for a while. No, I want.
Speaker 1 (40:35):
I want to wake up and no, no, no, I want
to wake up and roll out of bed and walk
down to the.
Speaker 2 (40:39):
Walk down to my couch and watch the game. That's
what I want to do. All right, Well, we'll blank
you then. I was trying to make it a heartwarming moment.
I'd have donuts in the studio and everything.
Speaker 1 (40:48):
Yeah, but I love you, buddy, But yeah, you know,
I'm not twenty five.
Speaker 2 (40:52):
I'm not I'm not not doing that. I get you.
Speaker 3 (40:54):
I'll be finishing the show about that when they gig off.
But the the balance that this team had is something
that you know, he got to experience a little bit,
you know, with the Niners, but otherwise hasn't really seen it.
Speaker 2 (41:07):
So you got a good defense, a good roster.
Speaker 3 (41:10):
Hockinson will come back, Jefferson and Addison a little bit
banged up, but they'll be ready, and he doesn't have
to do much if he goes for two twenty five
one in one. Odds are they're gonna and Aaron Jones
is upright. Odds are they're gonna win a bunch of
those games, so he doesn't have to be spectacular. But
let's face it, we love a good story, we love
a comeback, and especially when it's an ex jet Now good.
Speaker 1 (41:34):
I'll tell you if it's still week eight, I'll be
the first guy. But again, I've seen this film before
and people will get film.
Speaker 2 (41:43):
After the first four weeks and see how it goes. Yeah,
week eight, it'll be Detroit after a bye week.
Speaker 1 (41:48):
Coming up next, we'll preview some of the biggest games
tomorrow and Sunday.
Speaker 2 (41:52):
Keep it here, Fox,
