his best friend Mike Carbon right here on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 4 (00:51):
How you do it tonight, VJ.
Speaker 5 (00:53):
My mayor Arnie Spay And I am doing very very
thankful today. Man, I'm very dank. We're happy Thanksgiving. First
of all, happy here, happy things giving to you, your
lovely wife and your awsome son and all the listeners
out there, all your family members, man, all your friends,
your loved ones, your spouses, your children. A truly happy
and sincere Thanksgiving to you all, and that we remember
(01:15):
what today is more than just good food and football.
What we are thankful for in our lives. Man, I'm
thankful for the fifth straight year, the fifth straight year
you and I in this time slot. I just think
it needs to just be called the Avy Thanksgiving Special.
Speaker 6 (01:30):
We should just name it that now.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
When you told me that I didn't believe you, I'm like, no,
five five straight things. You just started like five months
ago for crit I know, I just got here five years.
Speaker 6 (01:43):
Wow, five years.
Speaker 7 (01:45):
Geez.
Speaker 3 (01:45):
Time just flies on by, and nobody does Thanksgiving better
than VJ.
Speaker 4 (01:52):
Husky.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
Later on, I got to ask you what you're cooking,
because you put out the best pictures, whether it's Dyke's
give Eddie meal you cook, thank you.
Speaker 4 (02:02):
I totally missed those pictures.
Speaker 5 (02:04):
So yeah, well I did just post my Thanksgiving dinner
I cooked this year.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
Man.
Speaker 6 (02:08):
I kept it light, though. I kept it light because
I had this show.
Speaker 5 (02:10):
I'm supposed to go out, uh to see some family
out in LA and then things went south at the
last minutes.
Speaker 6 (02:15):
I had to turn around on.
Speaker 5 (02:16):
The highway, go back home and uh and just chill
four minute before. So I didn't cook what I would normally,
like the big schmortgage board. But but but I did enough.
My pix are up, man, But cooking this therapy to me.
Speaker 6 (02:28):
Brother, like it.
Speaker 5 (02:29):
Get in the kitchen the one's around you know what's bothering?
You can be creative. I mean, I'm a creator. You
know what I'm saying.
Speaker 6 (02:34):
I'm creative.
Speaker 5 (02:35):
You know I'm an artist and everything I do when
you're in the kitchen, it's the same thing.
Speaker 4 (02:38):
I'm I'm like to complete the opposite.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
Because my wife's up in Vermont right now, so she
left me some stuff. I didn't even want to heat
up the scalop potatoes. I'm like, I do, I really
want to put it in the microwave. That's such a
process for me. I like, I'll just starve to death. Now.
Speaker 6 (02:54):
Now what type of scalp potatoes?
Speaker 7 (02:56):
Are they?
Speaker 4 (02:56):
Cheesy? A? They garlic?
Speaker 6 (02:58):
They scallop potatoes.
Speaker 5 (02:59):
They can hit a miss like when and when they
hit though, scali potato fantastic when.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
They Yeah, yeah, there's no doubt about that. I you know,
my my Thanksgiving very uneventful. But we'll go through it
later on, and you know what I want to get
from you later on too. That's just blowing up on
social media. I don't know if you heard what Erin
Andrews said about working holidays and how she works on
(03:25):
people are ripping about that, like everybody pumped, breaks for
crying out loud and people getting just absolutely crazy. But look,
we want to thank all the listeners. You know, I
guess most of them. Everybody's pretty much eaten. Well, it's
ten o'clock Eastern. I don't know if people eat. Some
people eat late on me on the West coast. But
(03:47):
we do appreciate you joining us on this Thanksgiving. And
it used to be back in the day VJ. And
I'm not just talking the five years were you know,
you and I have.
Speaker 4 (03:56):
Done the show.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
I'm talking like ten twenty years ago. I think there's
only like one game I'm Thanksgiving, and there wasn't all
a heck of a lot going on, and people really
didn't want to work the holidays and really kind of
a lack of stuff. But now look at it, it's crazy.
Speaker 4 (04:12):
Look at all the sports going.
Speaker 7 (04:13):
On right now.
Speaker 6 (04:14):
You know, well it's not. I mean, you think about
him Man Hills and is on Boy.
Speaker 5 (04:17):
I call him is on them Boys because tom Is
is just one of my favorite coaches of all time
in all the sports. That is on them Boys played today.
We had two NFL games today. We got, we got that's.
Speaker 4 (04:26):
Free NFL good three.
Speaker 6 (04:27):
Excuse me three or three?
Speaker 5 (04:28):
Two early played earlier one going on currently right now
as we speak, the bucket, the Bengals and the Ravens.
But then you got that school down the road from
Chapel Hill going against Arkansas right now. So and you
got to think about it like this, And I know
we'll get to it later, but just a real quick
piece about what she said was My whole thing is
just tell me where she lied, tell me where she
(04:49):
did right right. That's why his fun don't know because
they don't do what we do. They don't get it. Like,
like you're watching the game right now, do you know
how many employees all right the Baltimore ra even Stadium
right now, And I'm talking from people who work there
to security, to all the players, all the coaches, all like,
all the assistants, all the front.
Speaker 6 (05:08):
Like everybody is there that has to do with that game.
It's Thanksgiving night, like they're not. And they've been there.
Speaker 5 (05:16):
They've been there for hours, way before kickoff, you know
what I'm saying. So it's what we do. We work
holidays because you want to sit home and enjoy what
we do. You want to watch these games, right, Okay,
cool if you don't want to watch no games and
everything's just off. And we just watched the Macy's Day
Parade right here, and we just watch reruns of Planes,
Trains and Automobiles, which is a great Thanksgiving movie.
Speaker 6 (05:37):
It is a good movie.
Speaker 5 (05:38):
It's just the best Thanksgiving movie you ever, right, John
Candy and uh and uh and uh and uh Steve Martin.
But Steve Martin, yeah, you know it's I My whole
thing was when I watched it, My first reaction was
where she lie people in uproar it is.
Speaker 7 (05:52):
I thought.
Speaker 6 (05:52):
When I saw the headline, I clicked.
Speaker 5 (05:54):
I said, oh this this is gonna be good what
thed Aaron Andrews saying.
Speaker 6 (05:57):
Then I watched it and it was like, uh, she's
not lying. God, this is your career.
Speaker 7 (06:03):
Right.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
She was on a podcast, didn't you know. They were
just talking about it. And then she said one of
her regrets and she works all the holidays, doesn't really
get to see her family. And we know what it's about.
Though nowadays VJ. You know, like somebody like us, especially
somebody like me on the on the East Coast.
Speaker 4 (06:19):
I usually have Thanksgiving.
Speaker 7 (06:20):
With my family.
Speaker 3 (06:21):
Right walk into my own studio at ten o'clock at night,
pretty much everybody is asleep.
Speaker 4 (06:26):
I mean you're all trip to.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
Fan out and you're you're going to bed unless you're
watching the WEE game.
Speaker 6 (06:33):
Yeah you're here. Yeah, you're dozing off watching.
Speaker 5 (06:35):
Half the families are sleep all sofas right now with
this game on.
Speaker 4 (06:39):
So we get the best of both worlds.
Speaker 3 (06:41):
We get to have, you know, dinner with our family
and then go on and do the show. So I
know where she's coming from, though she she doesn't have
that option.
Speaker 4 (06:49):
I mean, look at Chris Collinsworth. He's he's taking.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
The weekend off or this this Thursday off.
Speaker 4 (06:54):
Because you know, he wanted to be with his family
and night.
Speaker 5 (06:57):
So he's probablysdays though. That's that's my that's my thing.
I'm pretty sure he's put in enough Thursdays if we
go back and look at all the Thursday night games
that he's called, probably one hundred years in a row.
I think he deserves at this point when you do
get a little older and you don't and you do
want to spend time with your family for certain holidays,
(07:18):
if you've done sixty of these games.
Speaker 4 (07:20):
Five hundred he's done five hundred.
Speaker 3 (07:23):
No, I'm serious that that was the five hundred games
that just had.
Speaker 6 (07:27):
The he gets celebration the other day, he gets it.
Speaker 5 (07:30):
He gets the opportunity to say, Hey, this Thanksgiving in
my I'm assuming he's in his midleate sixties, I'm gonna
stay home with the family because I'm sure the family's like, hey,
you know, just you know, one year with the grandkids
or maybe great grandkids. At this point, we can have
you for this one because once you get to that age,
you probably got grand kids. If you're in your sixties seventies,
most likely you got grandkids. If you got kids, right,
(07:51):
you know so, and you might got great grandkids. If
you're grandkids at kids at twenty or twenty one or
twenty two, you got a great grand baby there. You
want to you want to have those moments, man, So
I can excuse somebody for when to take off.
Speaker 6 (08:02):
But she didn't tell anything. She didn't tell any fans.
Speaker 3 (08:04):
No, and I will say this as we'll get ready
to talk some football. My very first shift, the way
I broke into the business.
Speaker 4 (08:12):
My first show.
Speaker 3 (08:13):
Wasn't a local show in some small market, was on
a national network. But it was on Christmas even Christmas
midnight to six, And if anybody ever wants to get
into this business, those are the shifts you break in
on Thanksgiving Christmas Eve. It was the overnight shift, and
I had no idea what I was doing. But back
(08:34):
then it was a whole different story of VJ. And
that was from that point on, I always had a job.
So I always was very thankful that I got to
do Christmas even Christmas, even though nobody wanted to do
that overnight. That's probably the worst shift you could do,
you know what I mean, it was horrible.
Speaker 5 (08:51):
Over the last I would say maybe seven or eight years,
I've worked every Thanksgiving, every Black Friday, every Christmas Eve,
Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day, Fourth of July, Memorial,
Easter or Easter Sunday. I've done like the last four
Easter Sundays. Because you know, the people that are more
season in this business been around a little longer there,
(09:12):
to the point where like Chris collins Worth, Hey, I
kind of want to just chill with my family on
Easter Sunday.
Speaker 6 (09:17):
You get a call to do ten to twelve right
at am?
Speaker 5 (09:21):
Okay, yeah, there suggests it's two hours, show, three hours
or whatever. But you you're not with your family, united church,
you're not at dinner, if you're doing the afternoon time slots.
Speaker 6 (09:29):
It just it is what it is.
Speaker 5 (09:31):
But like you said, when you first break into this business,
the one word that cannot be in your vocabulary is no,
or I can't or I can't know if you get
the text or email or whatever hey want to fill
in on Christmas Eve from seven to eleven, So yes, yeah,
you're you're home before midnight. By then the kids should
be sleep anyway, Yeah, you know, to dress up is
the Grinch should come in, instill the presence and scared
(09:52):
of the kids. But which I really want to do
this year. But I really want to do that to
my kids. But they need to learn a lesson. You
need to learn a lesson man, No fear right only
only personal spear is God. But yeah, and when you
break it too this business, like you said, it's you
know you, you take the crumbs. My first high school
game I ever called, I got paid fifty dollars, Like real,
there you go.
Speaker 4 (10:12):
That's a lot of money back.
Speaker 5 (10:13):
I drove, I drove two hours to call it a
high school game because someone asked, Hey, somebody dropped out leak.
You want to call a high school game? Hell yeah,
He's like, yeah, it pays fifty bucks it dude, that
don't matter. Where's the game? Like, where's the game? Give
me the address? Well the time I got to be there,
and you know, you go from there.
Speaker 3 (10:30):
We always say the best ability is availability there you go. So, uh,
we welcome everybody out of this Thanksgiving hope everybody is
enjoying it.
Speaker 4 (10:39):
Even if you're by yourself, let us keep you company.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
We know a lot of people can't be with their
families tonight because maybe they're on the other part of
the country. You couldn't travel, or you had to work,
or maybe you're on your way home. So we do
appreciate yeah, hanging out with us.
Speaker 4 (10:53):
Though.
Speaker 3 (10:53):
There was a lot of sports going on, as you
mentioned VJ three games going on. One game is hit
the half Bengals lead Ravens twelve to seven. Obviously, will
keep you updated on the second half, but I want
to get right to the meat and potatoes. Behu was
the Cowboys beat the Kansas City Chiefs thirty one twenty eight.
The Cowboys offense just keeps getting better and better. I mean,
(11:14):
if Dak Prescott was on a better team, we'd be
talking to.
Speaker 4 (11:17):
Him as a possible MVP.
Speaker 3 (11:19):
He's putting up some big numbers, but unfortunately I don't
think the Cowboys, well, they're making a Lattin Smitt run.
The Kansas City Chiefs don't VJ. It is o v
er for them, no playoffs, They're done. I wonder if
that's a good thing or a bad thing. Are you happy,
because there's a pretty big sediment of anti Kansas City
(11:42):
Chiefs right now, But it can't be a good thing
for the NFL that Patrick Mahomes won't be in the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (11:49):
But I think it's over for them. What do you think?
Speaker 6 (11:52):
I'm not sure.
Speaker 5 (11:53):
The only thing is just logically, I look at the
three to four teams in front of them, and they've
lost to three of the team. So essentially, after losing today,
they're three and a half. After this Sunday can be
four games back, and then at six and six, I
would say, Okay, cancel Christmas, take the toys back. Santa
Claux is not coming. It's like, it's really like real talk,
(12:14):
it's over. I don't know if I'm I'm not happy
about it. I'm only happy like when the rival team
of my favorite team doesn't make it or something. I've
never had a thing against the Kansas City Chiefs. I
think this is great for the NFL because the NFL
does preach parody every single year. And even though we've
had runs of the Niners and the Steelers and the
Packers back in the seventies, eighties and nineties with the Cowboys,
(12:36):
and then you had a run with the Patriots for
fifteen twenty years, and you sprinkling Colts and Big Ben
and Pittsburgh and Aaron Rodgers of Green Bay, and like,
it's okay, if it's not Pat Mahomes in the Super
Bowl this year, we're gonna see we can possibly see
a different representative other than Pat Mahomes and Joe Burrow,
which I believe is the last six AFC appearances for quarterbacks,
(12:57):
if I'm not mistaken, those have been the AFC quarterback
as far as the Super Bowls concerned. We now know
it could be you know, another quarter It could be
Drake may Right, it could be bow Nicks. It could
be one of these teams in the AFC that's playing
really well right now.
Speaker 6 (13:12):
Still a lot of football to play, still a lot
to play out.
Speaker 5 (13:14):
Injuries pop up and happen, and the ball bounces funny,
aess why is oblong and not round?
Speaker 6 (13:18):
So man, they could be done.
Speaker 5 (13:22):
I'm not just sure if I go there, because these
teams in front of them.
Speaker 6 (13:24):
Can fall off.
Speaker 5 (13:25):
But I don't know if four teams are gonna do it,
they would have to overcome a lot.
Speaker 6 (13:30):
They go six and seven.
Speaker 5 (13:32):
I will join your bandwagon if they're done, and I'll
shut the door right now.
Speaker 6 (13:35):
Let's see.
Speaker 5 (13:36):
Let's see how this weekend plays out. Right, Let's see
how this weekend plays out, and we go from there.
Speaker 4 (13:40):
Isn't this though a year coming?
Speaker 3 (13:43):
Because last year the Kansas City Chiefs twelve to zero
in one score games. You know, if we flip the
corn and you won ten times in a row, eventually
you're gonna be lucky. And you know you're gonna be
lucky because it's still fifty to fifty on each coin flip.
But you'd be saying yourself, well, I'm lucky, you know what.
That's just the way it is. Let's face it. The
(14:03):
Chiefs had to say to themselves last year they were lucky.
When you go twelve and oh and I know you
think that you're probably skilled and you can pull it
out of the game. But this year one in five
in one score games and caught up to them VJ. Right,
I mean, this is gonna happen to them last year
at least, you know, they could have lost a couple
of games and the whole thing could have been different.
Speaker 4 (14:22):
But it's finally caught up to them this year.
Speaker 5 (14:24):
And it has and that's see, that's the great thing
about football is because the variables aren't sustainable, right, Like,
like you said, those one score wins, that streak, it's
you're not gonna be able to do that for long.
It's like not being able to stop the run. But
you could score a lot of points, so you win
a lot of thirty eight, thirty four, thirty one to
twenty eight. But sooner or later it's gonna catch up
(14:44):
to you, because that's just the way football works out. Now,
what you're good at and what you're just you know stable,
that's the meat and potatoes, the beef of football. Protecting
a passer, rushing the passer, running the ball, stopping the ball,
and not come in in stupid penalties. And you hope
the injury bug doesn't run through your locker room before Halloween, right,
if you can get that far and then up to Thanksgiving,
you're golden. If you're that far at that point, Ie,
(15:07):
nine to two teams right now, there's three of them
are foro MI.
Speaker 6 (15:09):
In the league, you'll be okay.
Speaker 5 (15:11):
But when you live and die by the three, like
in basketball, right, when you live and die by the three,
sooner or later, if you ever have a night where
the ball doesn't go in from twenty six twenty seven
to twenty eight feet, you're gonna lose that game. And
it could be a Game seven, it could be a
swing Game five if a series is tied at two
to two, which we know is like seventy eight percent
of teams to two that wins Game five going to
(15:32):
win the series.
Speaker 6 (15:33):
So it just never was gonna be sustainable.
Speaker 5 (15:36):
But see the thing about the Chiefs is they got
one five man, They got one five and they got
Andy Reid. Now, I know they don't have all the
pieces they used to have. Spags's defense is still really good.
But as you mentioned, Dallas is just Dak Prescott is
having a great year, unbelievable. They and I'm gonna tell
you something they look great now after those trades. When
(15:56):
they traded Micah, people just shot that down like their
season is over.
Speaker 4 (16:00):
I feel like it was a common laughing.
Speaker 6 (16:02):
But then you know, and I don't know how long
it will last.
Speaker 5 (16:05):
But you bring against run stoppers, run stoppers in the middle,
you fix up that defensive line they hold, Say Kwon Barkley,
was it ten carries twenty two yards or something like that.
Philly wouldn't even run the ball, like, they wouldn't even
call a run play because you couldn't get it done.
And the Chiefs couldn't really run the ball, you know,
just blast them and push them around.
Speaker 6 (16:22):
Today.
Speaker 5 (16:22):
So with the way Dak's playing, throwing up thirty thirty
five forty likes, I mean, think about it, they tied
the game with his scored over forty points right the
game against the Packers. They can score if they if
they can just stop and hold people. And Pat Mahomes
shows his greatness today. Four touchdown passes puts up twenty
eight points and they lose. If you told me today
before the game that Pat Mahomes would throw four touchdown
(16:44):
passes and they would lose. Exactly, there was a bet
on that you would have took, you would have took
the opposite side of the bed.
Speaker 4 (16:50):
Dallas number nine seed.
Speaker 3 (16:52):
Right now, they have the same losses with Detroit, but
Detroit seven to five, Dallas six five and one. Dallas
with the tie there, they're both chasing San Francisco. I
don't have the schedule for the forty nine ers. We'll
try to pull that up because I know the forty
nine ers. Their next two games are absolutely easy. Matter
of fact, they have at Cleveland and then the Titans
(17:14):
before they're at the Colts, and then they finish up
with Chicago and Seattle. So it's gonna be somewhat tough,
you know, for Dallas to get into the playoffs spot
not all impossible, though certainly a lot better percentage than
the Kansas City Chiefs. I would love to see Dallas
he got in and see if they make any noise
(17:35):
this year more than ever, it's so wide open in
either side, AMC and NFC. Maybe the Rams and the
Eagles stick out above everybody else, but everything else is
a big mix up there. What do you think about Dallas?
Can they make that run at seventh seed or is
it too little, too late?
Speaker 5 (17:51):
No, No, it's not too little, too late, because as number one,
they have No.
Speaker 6 (17:54):
One offense in football.
Speaker 5 (17:55):
Okay, they're putting almost four hundred yards a game and
they're at Detroit. We saw Detroit in my opinion and
quick sidebar is the most disappointing team in the twenty
twenty five season going into this year, where we thought, well,
Dan Campbell's calling plays, like that's a problem. I know,
I know it looks good. I know he's corky and
I like Dan Campbell. But Dan Campbell is now calling
the plays. And they got really their coordinator. And I
(18:17):
never was a really big coordinator guy untill about a
year and a half ago.
Speaker 6 (18:21):
I've got somebody kind of.
Speaker 5 (18:22):
Be coordinator into my brain and I'm like, you know what, Wow,
when you go through and you do look at teams
that lose their coordinator, you can still have weapons. Look,
they're still seven and five, right, They're not, you know,
they're not one and eleven. But the head coach has
to take over play calling duty. So I think that
could be a dub that's on Thursday night, a week
from night. Then they have Minnesota there. I think JJ
probably should sit the rest of the year. It just
doesn't look good. It's not working out this year. It
(18:43):
is essentially his rookie year. But that's my guy. Love
him to death, but just being real, he's out with
the kercussion protocol. They got a backup that's going to
be ready to go. I think Dallas gets that with
a home the Chargers. Both tackles are down, they're fighting injuries.
They will show up and fighting that game because that's
what hardball's gonna bring. But you know, I think they
can get that one Washington and then the Giants, like
they could run the table for they could run the
(19:05):
table and like the rest of these games, they finish out.
Man two won the row to finish two division games.
But Washington the Giants, you know, week seventeen, Week eighteen,
you know, I would probably take Dallas. I think they'll
be favored in the rest of their games other maybe
the Detroit game not, but the rest of the games
they'll be favored.
Speaker 3 (19:20):
We're just getting started on this Thanksgiving night.
Speaker 4 (19:24):
He's VJ Husky. I'm already Spad.

Speaker 6 (20:16):
All right, good evening everyone.
Speaker 3 (20:17):
We're broadcasting live from the Fox Sports Radio studios. VJ Husky,
Arnie Span. You're in for the guys, Jason Smith and
his best friend Mike Carmen on this Thanksgiving. Hope everybody
enjoyed your Thanksgiving out there, VJ. Next hour, I will
tell you what's cooking for Vjy's Thanksgiving.
Speaker 4 (20:39):
I even hate to tell you what I ate. You
know it will make you sick to your stomach. VJ.
Speaker 6 (20:43):
I gotta be honest. I brought some man, I brought
some man. I just warmed. I just warm on, I
just warm on up.
Speaker 5 (20:49):
So the studio studio smelling like Amory Spearman kitchen right now.
And that's my grandmother who taught me how to cook.
From when I was about eight years old. I spent
a lot of summers and high in the kitchen, tasting, stirring,
mixing dice and onions, dice and celery, whatever veggiees need
to be cut up for whatever it is. I was
the one kid that just loved being in the kitchen
(21:11):
with my grandmother and I and it shows through my cookie.
She always said, I ask a grandma, why don't you measure?
She goes, because when you're cooking with love, you never
have to measure. Oh look it, so I can't. I
don't measure anything. So I could cook the same dish good,
but it's not going to be duplicated to what you
had last time. It could be better or it's going
to be about the same. But I don't people wish
your recipe. I don't have a recipe book. It's all
(21:33):
about love and in your brain because you taste everything.
Speaker 2 (21:35):
Man.
Speaker 4 (21:35):
He tastes you go, that's true, that's true. That's VJ. Husky.
Speaker 3 (21:39):
By the way, touchdown Now Cincinnati a head nineteen to.
Speaker 4 (21:44):
Seven over Baltimore.
Speaker 3 (21:46):
Wow, you know you said how Detroit was the most
disappointing team in the NFL. Baltimore might be roped there
and give them a good run. But is anybody going
to say anything about Lamar Jackson? Does anybody want to
want to say anything? Or we just gonna allow this
to continue like he's still an MVP. I just, I
(22:06):
just I just want to know because they're you know,
they're not beating very good teams, and they're not beating
a lot of teams at all, and they got to
be one of the most disupporting teams in the NFL also,
And I got to be honest, Samar Jackson's got to
be one of the most disappointing players this year in
the NFL.
Speaker 4 (22:23):
Am, I am I wrong on that, VJ?
Speaker 7 (22:25):
Or what I mean?
Speaker 5 (22:26):
You're incited to your opinion, So I don't know if
you're wrong. I disagree with it. He's playing hurt. There's
some film I did break down with Lamar Jackson over
the last few weeks because I'm trying to figure out
why is he not taking off the way that you
know we've seen Lamar Jackson. And I said on our
End Zone show on Sundays, I have that I'm on
with with Steve Hartman. Steve Hartman weeks and weeks and
(22:47):
weeks ago going into that vibe. Remember when John Harbaugh
said the expectation is for Rokwan Smith and Lamar Jackson
to return after the bye week.
Speaker 6 (22:58):
I immediately jumped on. I said, I don't know whoa ohoha?
Speaker 5 (23:00):
He said what he said, the expectation not they will,
which means to me, I thought that if they lost
that Thursday night game to the Dolphins, they were gonna
shut him down for the year. And that's what I
would have done, because at that point, when you've gotten
a one in five, there's no need at all to
throw out your franchise quarterback. Now, if he's already playing,
(23:21):
you guys are just that bad, you're gonna sit them,
you know, in no Vember around things given anyway, say look,
we're two and twelve, let's give the rookie, let's give
the backup a shot.
Speaker 2 (23:28):
Man.
Speaker 5 (23:28):
We're not at these games they mean something, but they
don't mean something. You're two hundred plus million dollar franchise quarterback.
We're not gonna risk hurting you. Already had the leg injury,
hamstring injury, you know, going into that. When they bought
him back and he won that game, I said, Okay,
this can get dangerous for them because the lower extremities.
I say this all the time, man, they don't heal
(23:50):
during the season. Calves, growlings, quads, hamstrings do not heal
during the season. You can play with them, you can
play through it, but they don't don't heal. And if
you're a quarterback like Lamar that needs all of that
below the ways, it's gonna affect your game. And he
just doesn't have the explosiveness and the speed right now.
So he's he's playing banged up man, And you know that.
(24:13):
I would I would really look at they go six
and six right here and put this tape on. Why
can't we score points?
Speaker 6 (24:18):
They can't score points?
Speaker 4 (24:20):
The VJ you know in Miami loses.
Speaker 3 (24:22):
Yes, they blame a little bit on the coach, but
a lot of it's on it's a lot onto a
Why are we not putting that same blame that on
Lamar Jackson?
Speaker 4 (24:31):
And Baltimore. Eventually, the quarterback.
Speaker 3 (24:34):
Does take most of the blame anyway, or they should
take most of the blame.
Speaker 4 (24:38):
They're the leader of the team.
Speaker 5 (24:39):
Right you know, at think Lamar, not thinking Lamar has
done a lot more than two it has. He's gone
to the playoff because he has too MVP. So you know,
and trust me, they'll be people that bang on them.
Then he'll be people tomorrow morning. If this stands at
seven points, that's gonna bring this up. Derrick Henry too, man,
those fumbles early in the year, Yes, and there's a breakdown,
the breakdown he had on the sideline that one game
(25:02):
where no one could console him, No one can really,
you know, get him to calm down, and he almost
had like a like a childlike type of tense temper tantrum.
And I'm I told Harmy, I said, bro, that's not good.
Football is a big time middle game. You can't break
down like that on the sideline the year the bell
cow running back this early in the year, hold on
to the ball and we don't have to worry about this.
(25:23):
But he cost them literally two or three early games,
and that just set them back. And now your quarterback
gets hurt. Now you're bringing him back, and then now
on National TV Thursday Night at home, Burrough's just getting
back and you got seven points on the board at
six fifty mark.
Speaker 6 (25:36):
In the third quarter.
Speaker 5 (25:37):
Yeah, I think there's there's there's a calls for concern
most definitely, But and I'm not ready to beat him
up just yet.
Speaker 3 (25:44):
Well, I mean, we've finally seen the slowing of Derrick Henry.
You're right, the fumbles cost him. I've never seen him
fumble period, right, kind of I'm fumbling like that. I've
never seen him put the ball out on the ground
that That absolutely surprised me.
Speaker 4 (25:55):
I know, he changed a few things.
Speaker 3 (25:56):
I saw them talking about it in the pregame show,
how we got rid of the sleeve and all that.
But you're seeing his overall game. He just doesn't have
that strength or burst. Sometimes he does. I mean you'll
see that eventually or occasionally, but it's just overall age.
Like they say, father type is undefeated VJ. Yeah, father
type is undefeated and.
Speaker 5 (26:17):
It comes fast. And they always say the last person
to know is the player. The player is always the
last person to know. Everyone else can see it. And
I'm not sure Derek Henry's there, but once again, the explosiveness,
just the bullying, the way he used to just run
over people at stiff arm other grown six three and
forty five pounds, grown ass men off of him like
(26:39):
it was nothing. That Derrick Henry we might not have anymore.
And that's gonna be a problem when Lamar can't move,
is Lamar should be moving. And now Derrick Henry's not hisself.
I mean, what do you guys say. I mean, they're
fumbling balls, they flowers is limping, and it's it's not looking.
Speaker 6 (26:53):
Good this year for Baltimore.
Speaker 5 (26:55):
But I feelink Detroit's a much much bigger disappointment.
Speaker 3 (26:58):
You mentioned that that the Lions are a big disappointment.
We're gonna come back. We're gonna get into that. I'm
I'm gonna grill you on that for now. Then we'll
get to that coming up next. But first, our first
check in with our buddy Martin Weiss, see what's trending,
what's going on?
Speaker 4 (27:12):
Martin?
Speaker 6 (27:13):
Happy Thanksgiving?
Speaker 4 (27:14):
Any Happy Thanksgiving?
Speaker 7 (27:15):
Martin?
Speaker 9 (27:15):
How you doing? I'm doing well? VJ Happy thanks We
just talked to you in the hall, sir.
Speaker 6 (27:19):
Happy Thanksgiving brothers to you and your love your family man.
Speaker 9 (27:22):
The Cincinnati Bengals right now with a nineteen to seven
lead over the Baltimore Ravens.
Speaker 7 (27:26):
Baltimore with the ball second.
Speaker 9 (27:27):
And ten, the touchdown from Joe Burrow was to Tanner. Yeah,
Tanner Hudson caught that. It's just first catch out of
the day. Jamar Chase has five for eighty six. He's
been the high guy for them, eight eight completions, thirty
seven attempts, one hundred and eighty eight yards passing for
Joe Burrow his first game back from injury. The Mark
Jackson's been back for a few games now. He's nine
(27:49):
for seventeen, one forty six through the air, no touchdowns,
no picks, seventeen I mean sorry, four carries for seventeen
yards and a fumble that was pretty costly.
Speaker 7 (27:59):
It led to a Cincinnati field goal.
Speaker 9 (28:01):
Derek Henry's got the loan touchdown for Baltimore came on
a twenty eight yard run. He's got ten carries for
sixty so far on the day. As Baltimore lines up
for a third and three on their own twenty on
the Cincinnati twenty eight yard line, looks like Lamar Jackson
is going to run for a first down here and
get out of bounce. The Cowboys beat the Chiefs earlier
(28:22):
today thirty one to twenty eight, Dallas with bruce to
sixty five and one.
Speaker 7 (28:25):
Kansas City falls to six and six.
Speaker 9 (28:28):
Dak Prescott with twenty seven for thirty nine, two touchdowns
and a pick. Patrick Mahomes had four touchdowns through the
air two two twenty three completions thirty four attempts. Kareem
Hunt led him and rushing with fifty eight. Rashi Rights
had those two touchdown catches and ninety two yard receiving.
Ceede Lamb with the bounce back game seven catches one
(28:48):
twelve through the air, and Packers beat the Lions, Lions
falling to seven and five on the year, Packers approving
to eight three and one thirty one to twenty four
of the final score and Jordan Love had four touchdowns.
Don Tavian Wicks caught two of them, Jered Goff two touchdowns,
Jamison Williams seven catches, one forty four through the air
and a touchdown receiving. I remembers Saint Brown didn't finish
(29:10):
the game. He suffered an ankle injury. He was likely
to miss one to two weeks per head coach Dan
Campbell earlier today, then we was sorry the Colts Dadorec
Daniel Jones suffered a fractured fibula, but he looks like
he's going to be at least attempts to play through it.
Sunday against the Texans. Steelers respect Aaron Rodgers back for
week thirteen. Full participant in Baker Mayfield. He started still
(29:32):
up in the air. Jackson dark clear concussion protocol for
the Giants. These expected to start Monday night.
Speaker 7 (29:37):
Football.
Speaker 9 (29:38):
Bears got Kyler Gordon to Dalen Johnson back for the
Black Friday game. That's two defensive backs, wide receiver Devonte
Smith and Saquon Barkley good to go for the Eagles
and that Black Friday game as well. And as I
was talking to Baltimore, Ravens scored a touchdown. Looks like
Keaton Mitchell on his second carry of the day scores
a eighteen yard touchdown run and that means Cincinnati nine,
(30:00):
a nineteen to fourteen lead.
Speaker 7 (30:02):
Fellas back to you, all.
Speaker 3 (30:03):
Right, thank you, Martin Wise, everybody, VJ Husky, Arnie Spanier
in for the guys tonight. Jason Smith and his best
friend Mike Harmon right here on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 4 (30:14):
That was a big play.
Speaker 3 (30:15):
That was a big touchdown and trying to save on
to their you know, to their season here and your finally,
as you mentioned right on you you were talking about
why is a Lamar running? Moore picked up that big
third down on third and three with his legs, got
out of bounds and were able to get the touchdown
after that. That was a big run. Now that was
(30:36):
old Lamar Jackson. That's what I love to see more.
But you're right, he must have something that he just
can't continue to run like that.
Speaker 6 (30:43):
You know, Well, it's not just that.
Speaker 5 (30:45):
I mean, you know, it was one of those plays
where we know the rule of thumb is when you're
in a man defense, the defensive players have his back
turn to you, and that whole side just opened up,
and the Olamar would have cut back inside because that
quarter is coming to the sielon. The Olamar would have
cut back on him or spun off of him back
to the inside, pick up a block for his receiver
downfield and went and scored. Lamar today just gets outside,
(31:06):
still has the wheels that get the first down on
a third down. Just a bad coverage of my opinion
by the Bengals. And the Bengals have a bad defense,
so this defense could crack it any moment, right and
let them in. And then you see Mitchell run through
the right side untouched. I don't think anybody got a
hand on him for his touchdown. So now you know
ball game nineteen fourteen. Okay, game on, here we go.
So there are possession touched ONWN away from taking a lead.
(31:27):
But here's the thing with Baltimore also, Yeah, they're gonna
win a division, right, They're gonna win a division. The
Bengals are not catching them. The Browns are not catching them.
And I predicted when the season started that the Steelers
and Mike Tomlin would have his first ever under five hundred.
I had him going eight to nine because I just
thought the bottom would fall out of Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 6 (31:46):
Like it did with the Jets.
Speaker 5 (31:47):
So I think they can win this division in nine
and eight, right, ten and seven, They're gonna win this division.
I think they have enough to do that. But something
else too. Remember Kyle Hamilton was injured earlier this year,
Rowan Smith. They had some injuries that they had to
do with. They lost their best defensive lineman for the year,
So they have some injuries they had to deal with too.
Their grace is gonna be that they're in a winnable
division and they'll be able to They'll be able to survive,
(32:09):
just like the Colts. Right, even though Jacksonville is hit
the seven and four, does anybody really think Jacksonville's going
to take catch the Colts or Detexans at six and
five is going to catch the Colts. No, So, by
the fault of your division, as where you look at
the AFC West, you better keep winning if you're Denver
because one of the other teams can you know, can
step up and catch you. Probably not the Chiefs, but
the Chargers wll you know I feel about the hardballs.
(32:30):
The Chargers are right there in their physical play and
they've already beaten the Broncos head to head. So I
think the Ravens are fine. But all your worry is
is correct. They're they're just they're banged up this year
and they're running back. Remember just hit over thirty. What's
the threshold for running backs? Man, it's for some reason,
it's the magical thirty, Right, These guys get to thirty
and something changes. It's like grown regular man like us.
(32:53):
Right when you hit forty or it changes right the
day you wake up. Something hurts for no reason that
did not hurt eight hours ago. It just changes, man,
And I think you're seeing it with Baltimore. But I
do think they'll be okay to win their division.
Speaker 3 (33:05):
VJ Who is your favorite? Let's say your top two
favorites in the AFC, because Drake made for the Patriots
as not played in the playoffs. Do you really believe
Bo Nickson Denver's the favorite for the AFC? Daniel Jones
all of a sudden the favorite for the Colts. I mean,
who's the favorite? Is it still the Bills or the Ravens?
(33:29):
The Chargers got major injuries. You talk about wide open.
I can't even I guess I gotta give you the Patriots.
But Drake be has never played in the playoffs before.
How am I supposed to feel confident? And by the
way they've beaten strength of victory is probably the lowest
or one of the lowest in the NFL. They nobody
going to their tenant two.
Speaker 6 (33:51):
Records, them and the Bears. It shifted two weeks ago.
Speaker 5 (33:54):
Two weeks ago, I think I remember their combined opponent
records was fourteen and thirty nine, and the Bears were
a game behind them, and then it flopped. Last week,
the Bears had the easiest UH as far as.
Speaker 3 (34:05):
The Bears are three to one seven winning percentage while
the UH.
Speaker 6 (34:12):
Patriots are three four to two. Right there.
Speaker 5 (34:16):
So, But here's the thing, though, already you've been doing
this long enough. Man, you play, you play who you play?
You do, man, you play who you play. We could
do the schedule all they Oh, they don't beat nobody, okay,
but if they lost to those teams, we'd be questioning them.
It's like the Browns and sh your door winning against
the road. Why they beat the Raiders, But if he
lost to the Raiders, you would be killing them even more.
So I can't play that game. I gotta keep it
(34:38):
a buck and listen, everybody knows me. He's gonna be
shocked at the answer. It's it's the Patriots. The Patriots
are the favorite in the AFC right now for a
lot of reasons. Number one, they're six and o on
the road. That's big in the NFL because defense and
running the ball travels one eight in a row. And
they're three and knowing their division. They've beaten everybody in
their division so far. So if you had to give
(34:59):
me and Mike Rabel, the guy could just flat out
coach man, that flat out coach football. Look what do
you do with Tannehill? And they were the number one
seed in AFC. People freaking enation right now. To me,
I hate to do it, Butch has gotta be a
real radio guy right now.
Speaker 6 (35:14):
It's the new England Patriots.
Speaker 3 (35:15):
Yeah, you gotta do it. Uh, he's VJA Husky will
come back. I still want to get Vja's thoughts about
the Lions and what did it all go south for them?
Speaker 4 (35:23):
And also, uh, Cincinnati on the move.
Speaker 3 (35:25):
We'll tell you what they do when we get back
right here on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (35:30):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 3 (35:37):
All Right, good evening, everyone, VJ Husky, Arnie Spaniar, and
for Jason Smith and his best friend Mike Harmon. On
this Thanksgiving night, I hope everybody enjoyed their Thanksgiving. As
we are live from the Fox Sports Radio studios, VJ,
we got a touchdown, So now Cincinnati has moved ahead
or they've extended their lead twenty six to fourteen over
(36:00):
the Ravens. Now, no bueno for the Ravens there. As
you mentioned fighting it out for the division lead right now,
they'll probably still take it. I have no confidence in Pittsburgh,
but Cincinnati and the Browns have no chance whatsoever. Baltimore
probably gonna win it by default.
Speaker 5 (36:18):
You know, Yeah, Pittsburgh doesn't fall out, but I just
I don't like the rest of pittsburgh schedule, and Pittsburgh
kind of blew some games.
Speaker 6 (36:25):
That Packer game I go back.
Speaker 5 (36:27):
To on National TV at home, man, was just one
where I thought, Okay, if they can get this one, like,
think about that Buffalo coming in, right, and the Buffalo is
probably gonna be pretty upset about the way they looked
against the Texas. And they've had now ten days because
they played that game on last Thursday night. Okay, So
then after that they're at Baltimore, then they're at home
against Miami. What are our Dolphins gonna look like at
that point? I don't know. Three weeks from now at
(36:48):
Detroit at Cleveland, that's a rivalry game, that's a division game,
that's you know how hot are down because shador Be
at that point, is Dylan Gabriel back at the helmet
the quarterback position. There's is Stefanski fired already because this
is last year there, They're gonna get rid of him.
Speaker 6 (37:04):
He's not gonna be coaching there. He's terrible. And then
you finish up with Baltimore at home.
Speaker 5 (37:09):
That that schedule, Man, Baltimore twice, Detroit and then two
question teams right now that are just kind of like, hey,
you know, let's just have fun to finish out the
year in Miami and Cleveland, you know what those games
get like. But Buffalo coming up, so they could they
could go you know, less under five hundred the rest
of the way, Man, and that can that can spell
their doom. And if the Ravens kind of handle business
(37:32):
tonight's still still in play Man, ten seconds left in
the third quarters, they have a whole fourth quarter to
go twelve points down, so they're still right there. They
need to get the ball moving and score more frequently tonight.
But like I said, their division is winnable, even if
it's by default.
Speaker 6 (37:47):
There's no such thing as default.
Speaker 5 (37:48):
It's just gonna say AFC North twenty twenty five wins.
Speaker 4 (37:51):
Right right now, you mentioned Detroit.
Speaker 3 (37:53):
They're in third in their divisions, behind the Bears and
the Packers, though a lot of people think that the
Bears are certainly fool gold out there the lie and
you said that the most disappointing team in the NFL.
Speaker 4 (38:05):
How do you do the how do you fix this thing?
Speaker 3 (38:07):
Remember, they've had some major injuries to the Porter's gone down.
Now it was saying Brown's gone down, but you know
that's recently, not early in the year.
Speaker 5 (38:17):
Yeah, that was you know, eight hours ago that Saint
Brown went down and he should be back. It's not
a season and the injury, as Mark told us in
the update, could be a week or two ankle ankle
sprains and ankle injuries or if you know, it could
be a week or it could be a month.
Speaker 6 (38:29):
Right, you just don't know how the ankle reacts.
Speaker 5 (38:32):
But the reason why I say Detroit is this, and
it's kind of a head scratcher, right because they lost
what two or three games all of last year. Okay,
they're already at seven and five. They have the fourth
rank offense, they have the twelve rank defense. So the
numbers show you, why are you so disappointing. It's a vibe, right,
It's just when you watch them play last week, they
should have lost the Giants, the Giants of the Giants, right,
what is it four fourth quarter games they've lost where
(38:54):
they had to lead in the fourth quarter, So you
knew it was coming with the Giants. And then on
the first play in overtime, Jamier Gibbs takes off and
embarrasses them and goes and scores, and then now they
know they have to get a touchdown as Dereck Henry
if I interrupt right here, it rips off a big
time run to get the ball inside the thirty yard
line for the Bengals.
Speaker 6 (39:12):
So that looked like a little bit of just off.
Speaker 5 (39:15):
Yeah, right, as soon as we started talking about Dereck,
he's like, hold on, hold on, here I come. But
with the Lions, it's just the coordinator and like, honestly,
and look what Ben Johnson's doing with Chicago, And look,
I'm not sure Chicago's fools goal because Caleb Williams was
touted to be great right when he was coming out
of college. We were touting this kid to be great,
(39:37):
and I think a lot of people wrote him off
after his rookie year, which we do way too much
in this business. We praised too early and we right
off too early. We don't let careers play out at
least the first four or five years. Let a guy
get his feet wet and understand what the NFL is
about day in and day out. Your opponents, the way
(39:57):
scoutsing are gonna are gonna are gonna coach against you.
Our scouts are gonna get the information to take back
to the coaches and the schemes and stuff they're gonna
run against you. That takes learning what Ben Johnson's done.
Let's get real what he's done. He's totally flipped this
team around. They lead the league in turnovers, so they
take the ball away, which gives the offense more offensive possessions.
And Caleb Williams is playing good like it's not like
(40:19):
a flash and a pan kind of thing. You can
see the stuff he's really good at, and you can
see this stuff he still needs to work on. But
Ben Johnson does have them at eight and three. I
don't think Detroit can catch them. I think this division
is either the Bears or the Packers. I would take
the Packers because I trust Jordan Love more than I
trust Caleb right now.
Speaker 4 (40:36):
I don't think there's a quarterback. We rode off faster.
Speaker 3 (40:40):
Than Caleb Bull got after like two weeks. Yeah, I
mean we And I was a part of the problem
too on that.
Speaker 4 (40:45):
I'll tell you what.
Speaker 3 (40:46):
Look our one in the books, it just flew on by.
What happened to our number one? We're gonna come back.
Let you know what's happening in the game. VJ Husky Lady,
span your year on Fox Sports or radio.
