You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. I hate that song.
Greetings and welcome inside. Happy Tuesday, The Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Harmon. Hobo out for tonight
out enjoying the Holidays. Dan Buyer doing his is normal
to usually once a year you come in in the
(00:46):
holidays and you're in for one of us. You're like
the cal Ripken of this thing. Dan. This it's the
third annual Dan Buyer sits in with Jason Harmon Show.
I love it. I'm gonna sell mugs for the fourth
annual next year. It's like, maybe just give him out.
It's like your own holiday special like you, Oh hey,
the bing Crosby Holiday spec Oh look, the Dick Clark
Holiday Specialist. Yeah, that's exactly. It's it's my own Bobby,
(01:09):
you know, like just once a year, you're gonna see
me show up and I'm gonna be here. You're gonna
have to deal with me for four hours. And we're
not paying you a million dollars tonight. Just so you know,
you're getting maybe twenty bucks in the sandwich. Right, that's
kind of our standard thing, the sandwich, and the sandwich
is not of my choice. Oh no, no, we'll let
you pick out the sandwich. Okay, let's hit it up.
(01:29):
That's that's what ty shirt brings in all the time anyway.
So it's all good. It's it's it's like p, B
and J and then there's a layer of seaweed and
then there's some keen one into a little bit and
that's what tight shirt has every night. Black seeds on
the outside too. Okay, thank you. The flax seed was
actually on the on the bread that you would have.
That's okay, very good. Okay, can you make a PB
and J smoothie? Is that possible? I can make it happen?
(01:51):
All right, good. I don't think there's anything health wise.
The tight Shirt hasn't attempted at least once. Anything he
puts into the blender comes out to this. Anything is
like this deep purple like sort of color. It's almost
like a purplish brown. Maybe. No matter what goes in,
that's what comes out. You know. It's like kids in
high school, like do I want to get an earring?
(02:13):
Do you want to do this? We're gonna go out,
Like what am I gonna do? What I push the envelope? TI,
It's like, what health food can I make tonight? Here
on a Friday night at home alone? What can I do?
How can I? All my friends are out having fun,
they're hanging out. Yeah, there's a big party. There's a
kegger going on down by the railroad tracks. But I'm saying,
I'm seeing what I can mix with this lettuce that
can really just make me live forever. That's what I
(02:33):
want to do. You say, let us wrap. I say,
it's the start of a fun night. We're live from
the tirect dot com studios. Tirect dot com will help
you get there and unmatched selection, fast free shipping, free
road hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tirect
dot com the way tire buying should be. Well, just
to let the pull the curtain back here a little bit.
(02:54):
As we get some lett we have some big NFL
stuff to get to a couple of minutes. But Dan
did email me before the and say, hey, listen, I
really feel if you want to in the beginning, we
should start talking about the Knicks for a couple of minutes.
Eight in a row is a really big deal. And
you know what, Dan, You're right, we should talk about
the Knicks winning eight in a row, beating the Warriors,
(03:14):
because like the Warriors of the champs, So now the
Knicks beat the champs. Now the Knicks should be the champs.
But eight in a row for the Knicks, they may
never lose again, Dan Buyer, and you look at this
team and you think, wow, this is the new power
in the NBA. But but I don't want to take
away because you you know, you email me wanting to
talk about the Knicks, So I don't want to take
away your thunder from it. This Knicks team. I thought
(03:35):
maybe I would get away with just having having what.
I thought he was pausing to try to find something,
so I really is all right, we'll get it fired back.
I really thought he was pausing, Frostburg. I thought he
was pausing to because he was trying to Okay, we're
gonna talk about you were thinking about a big mac.
I thought, no, No, I was thinking about pause. I'm
(03:57):
thinking about the Knicks. I mean eight in a row man,
me really? Eight? Yeah, dude, eight in a row man.
Look at the Come on, man, we're in the top.
We're in the top almost in the top five in
the Eastern Conference. That would be a hell of a banner.
We are almost in the top five. You could fit
it on the You can fit in on a banner.
It's not. No other team's gonna hang up now. No,
(04:17):
not even the Indianapolis Colts haying that banner. But eight
in a row for the end? Look not not say
till tonight. They played the Bucks. They played the Bucks
and the Celtics to night, back to back games. And
when they played the Warriors without Steph Curry. Uh, that's
that's not my fault. He couldn't make the game. That's
that's I mean, if he had something better to you
had something better to do. I mean, I know, being
injured is a better thing to do, but I is,
I can't control it. I can control is. That might
(04:40):
be a better banner to hang. They beat the Warriors
without Steph Curry. Look how many points would Curry of
Scort tonight? Probably he was at the garden. He dropped
like sixties. Okay, but let's let's give him thirty for tonight. Right,
we still win the game. We won one thirty two
nine four. We won, but won by thirty eight thirty
eight points. And if the scores thirty, we still wind
up winning. So it's okay, No, it is not. That
(05:01):
is as a false That is a false number right there.
That's absolutely false. But what did I say? Just give
the Knicks a little bit of time again. It's a
little bit longer than I thought it would be, but
now hottest team in the n b A. And they
just needed time to figure out what the new moving parts, exactly,
what kind of rotation they were gonna have, who was
(05:22):
gonna play, who wasn't gonna play, And they were going
to be really, really good. And now they have hit
their stride because now you know what their rotation is
going to be, they know who they're going to play.
But I'll tell you what. Everything fell into place because
of Jalen Brunson, Right, everything has fallen into place. And
and I'm not saying he's the number one guy, because
you have guys that are, you know, numbers wise, are
(05:43):
having really fantastic years. But as time goes on, you know,
because we like to do the m v P discussion
to have like, you know, like seven, eight, ten guys.
And if you're having a top ten m v P
discussion in the NBA right now, Jalen Brunson is in
your top ten. He is in the top ten. I'm
not saying he's I'm not saying two or three. No,
I'm not saying I'm not saying he's one, two or three.
(06:05):
But if you had a top ten, because we like
to do that, right, Rudy Gobert is number seven. Now,
if you had a top ten, Jalen Brunson is in
the top ten because of what he has brought to
this Knicks team. Uh has been Look, how do you
make a team better in the NBA? Number One, you
bring in a star, right, that's obviously, you bring in
a star. Number two, you bring in a point guard.
And while Jalen Brunson is not a superstar point guard,
(06:28):
he is a really really good player and twenty five
million dollars years a bargain for what he is bringing.
He has been consistent with the ball in his hand
all the time. He makes the right decisions. This is
how you get better quick And suddenly everything is sort
of fallen into place for the Knicks since they got
Jalen Brunson. And I knew it. I knew it was
going to I just thought it was gonna take a
little bit of time. I didn't take this much time.
(06:48):
I thought, you know, you get ten twelve games in,
all right, It turned out to be a little bit
more than that. Nick's had to get about fifteen or
eighteen games in. But now you look at how you
look at how well they're playing, and Jalen Brunson's at
the crux of everything. And now they figured it all out,
and Dan Buyer is back. I thought, Dan, you were
pausing for really dramatic effect. I needed. This is okay,
(07:09):
Jason's true story. I went to the instruction manual and
it says if you say the words Nicks eight game
win streak, the thing will crash and so like it's
so rare that it's never happened before. But that's uh
that you know, wind streak, Nicks the number eight, like
it's never gonna happen. Yeah, it happens tonight. And now
(07:29):
and and it completely breaks your com rex. It's not working.
It's just not working. You know, it's funny because you
know tonight was with Ease, and you know who the
Warriors are, and you know they're steps out, they've got
their own issues to deal with and that's the storyline.
But it was it was just with East tonight. It
wasn't even like a story that the Knicks were rolling
(07:52):
like and I know that the broadcast sometimes can be
very Warrior slanted, but that's what was like amazing to me,
is it was just kind of like a yeah, like
this is now accepted, like we accept the Knicks as
being a decent team, well coached team, a team with players,
and and that's what was what was kind of odd
about it. I don't like the black uniform. Has never
(08:12):
been a fan of the Knicks and black, but yeah,
it's it's I don't want to say it's it's normalized,
but that's almost what it felt like tonight, Like that's
what the Knicks shoul due to the Warriors. When the
Warriors come in like that. Okay, first thing, I don't
care what they could wear. A combination of colors that
doesn't make you could wear navy blue and black, which
is like you know the big oh, my goodness, can't
(08:33):
wear they should wear all white unit. But it's after
labor they don't. They could wear whatever they went if
they win. I don't care what they wear. They could
wear T shirts and they could wear you know the
old the old shorts from the eighties that they could
all wear those. I don't care. But you know, but
you bring up a great point about it is that
it seems like this is kind of who they are now.
This is this is they figured out, and they are
(08:55):
winning every game with machine like intensity, Like they have
one place where a hundred third T two tonight, nobody
had more than twenty two. You know, they always have
had a really deep roster, but they just have been
missing that in the top three to be able to
cut through. And you know, while your comrades box broke
because you know the nixt eight game win streak. Uh
I was talking about Jalen Brunson and look, yeah, it's
(09:16):
it's not like he's the top three m VP candidate.
But if if we go like because we don't have
to go like top five, top seven, top ten, uh
Brunson's on that list of because you look at the
the the impact he has had on this team. He's
the big change, right, we got it. We took a
couple of guys out of their rotational packages from a
year ago, and they're sitting on the bench, you know,
maybe four years a guy that gets traded to the
(09:37):
Lakers when they get desperate enough, and and Derrick Rose
isn't playing anymore. But he's the one guy and after
you know, fifteen or seventeen games, suddenly he's at the
crux of everything handling the ball. I mean, Jalen Brunson
has been such a huge and that's why I loved
it when it happened and went for everybody who went,
h he's gonna make the Knicks beat. Yeah, he's gonna
make the Nicks better. He's a point guard. He's really good.
(09:58):
I was over the moon with that signing. I'm even
happier now. Yeah, the other I'll take the other side
of it. Look at what it's done to the Mavericks,
you know. I mean, the Mavericks are holding onto the
tenth spot in the West. I don't know, there's a
lot of log jam there. But this is a team
that made it to the Western Conference Finals last year.
You know, like you're sitting there and thinking to yourself, Okay, um,
how much is you know? And Lucas back to being
a one man show. So you want to take the
(10:19):
other side of the the thing. Look at you know,
look at look where the Mavericks are without him, And
then you look at the East Jason, and I know,
I don't know, I'm I'm still waiting for something to
crumble with Brooklyn, Like I'm not a believer. I don't
think that we all believe in the seventies sixers necessarily,
the Hawks seem to be a bit of a mess
with Trey Young and and and so you look at
(10:39):
around like the East and he's trying to find like
solid teams or teams that you can count on, and
the Knicks are actually one of those teams. And that's
what's crazy. I mean, pacers maybe playing over their ability.
Um yeah, like I mean outside of Boston and Milwaukee
at the top and in Cleveland, who seems to be
pretty good. When you're talking about stability, you can actually
put the New York Knicks in that sentence. Look at that,
(11:01):
Look at that, You're gonna break your comras. You just said,
nixons to me, if nix in eight game win streak,
I'm gonna break it. Then Nicks and and and stability.
You may you may not get on the air the
rest of the night. I knew I was. I knew
I was in trouble when the Jets were in the news,
in the news, and then always from the Knicks take
at the Warriors. This is where Harmon's gonna go. This
(11:23):
is like just one of my nights. Is one of
my knights. When I come in, I got and I
always said the same thing. I go, hey, I I
can't I can't change the news. The news is the news, man,
I mean this is I'm sorry, the news is the
news that this is it a big deal. If Syracuse
joins the Big East tonight, um, then we've got some
real issues. Then I'm twitting. I'm throwing the Coras out
the window. You'll be that, Jeff, instead of the guy
(11:45):
throwing the TV out the window. It's the Comras, except
the Conras is kind of tiny, so it's like he
can't really like whoa he picked up something huge and
through it. It's like you just kind of throw it
out like a frisbee. He's gonna go right out Twitter,
and how about a Fresca Dan at Dan Buyer on
Fox The Jason Smith Show. Dan Buyer in from Mike Carbonio.
We'll have more NBA on the way tonight. But coming
(12:07):
up next, we got a big story out of the NFL.
How we all consume the National Football League could change
as early as tomorrow. And it's not like Dan's comrax
box is going to break this. How everything we do
could change beginning tomorrow. What is it? It's coming up
next right here, Jason Smith, Dan Byron from Mike Carmon
Live from the tirect dot Com Studios. This is Fox
(12:29):
Sports Radio. The Nicks are so stable. They've won eight
in a row. They may never lose again. They'll win
seventy games, they win the NBA tie to Lettin, They'll
sweep the Lakers down for shark or something. Be sure

Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven pm Pacific
(12:52):

Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmen
Dan Buyer are in for harm and tonight live live
from the Tiraq dot Cob Studios. Um Happy Night three
of Hanakah, Dad, you want you want a great uh
quick Coniker story here from the this and this is
(13:12):
really good. So this weekend, uh, this past week was
my daughter's birthday and one of the things she wanted
to do was have a couple of friends over for
a sleepover and see a movie. We're like, okay, great,
and she wanted to see something. She would we all
want to see a really good movie from the eighties.
Were like, oh wow, okay, Like, what are you guys
in the mood for everything? Is something funny? Something this
(13:33):
weekend she's seen tons of movies from the eighties. Ready,
we came up with like sixteen Candles. And she goes, oh, okay, okay,
it's like great, great, Great's my daughter's thirteen, four you know, fourteen.
Now our friends are all fourteen. It's like, oh, sixteen candles, Pert,
We're gonna watch sixteen Candles. So her friend comes out,
wonder friends comes over and is not great. You know,
it's not big on on movies, just kind of know
some of them. She's, what are we gonna watch tonight?
I said, Oh, it's a it's called sixteen candles. She goes,
(13:56):
what kind of is that a hanaka movie? And I said,
and right away I said, oh, yes, it's it's about
a hanuka that is twice as long as normal, and
so it's it's like a three and a half hour movie.
And she goes, oh, I'm not gonna like that. Does
she really not know? No, you know it's sixteen candles
with no if that hanaka has eight candles, No, she did.
She thought that's why she thought it was a hanaka
(14:17):
movie because I said sixteen candles. She's like, is it
a haneka movie? Isn't Yes, it's a hanikah twice as
long as all the other honikahs. It's a long movie.
It's three and a half hours. And already she just
picked up phones. I'm not gonna like that, Like I'm
already just looking at my phone. I said, no, no,
it's not it's not what it is at all. It's
a it's a high school movie. Now that that that
movie is such a classic, but there are certain parts
(14:38):
that just did not age well no candle. Yeah, lots
of movies from the eighties didn't age. There's lots of things,
and you know, Jake Ryan you know what what a
heart throb he was for Sam But I mean, gosh,
forgetting your daughter's birthday. Yeah, come on, yeah, that's that's
that's yeah, that is Rough's right, that's I'll tell you.
(15:00):
I'll tell you in high school, like if you said
who who would you want to look like? I would
I want to look like Jake Ryan because every girl
loved him, loved Jake Ryan, Jake Ryan. And then the
guy like never did another movie again. It's like he
was he was like the biggest stories. He's a breakout
and kind of looked like Matt Dylan a little bit.
It's like, oh, it's great, Like he didn't do anything.
(15:21):
Like everybody loves search. I mean you can't. Oh wait,
he is your comrax breaking in because you mentioned Jake Ryan.
Is that what happened? You mentioned Jake Ryan. He said
if you search him, you can't find him on the internet.
Every time you get Jake Ryan, you got like the
player who played for Michigan, who was Jake Ryan from
a few years ago. He had Australian actor Jake Ryan
(15:43):
Hannah Montana. Yeah, it's tough. Yeah, it's tough to find.
Michael Schofling. You have to really search for him. Uh
he was a good looking guy. He was. Yeah, yeah,
I look if I looked like Kevin. You can't even
my high school years have been so different. Out have
been looking at this guy. I would even needed like
a Porsche or a fancy car or something. I just
be I would have walked to school. I had the
(16:04):
jeans on and the and with with the the tongues
of the sneakers, you know, the jenes pushing over them
like that, that whole look going on. H weving great. Ah.
Instead I had what I had. Uh So a big
story out of the NFL today where how we watch
the NFL could change as early as tomorrow. Story that's
been taking over for the past few hours as the
(16:25):
NFL is nearing a rights deal with YouTube TV for
their Sunday ticket package. Now, if you remember, this story
has been going on for a while the NFL there
there contract with direct TV is coming up. They've been
looking to either re up with direct TV where Sunday
ticket is now, or find a new partner. Right now
Sunday Tickets paying about a million and a half dollars
(16:48):
or Correctives paying about a billion and a half dollars
for the rights the NFL was looking for more and
the fact that this could happen as early as tomorrow.
Many sources reporting that this could happened within the next
few hours. It's YouTube t which is Google is YouTube
TV is going to get the NFL Sunday Package and
that's where you're gonna have to go for Sunday football.
(17:10):
Now here's the thing. This is not just okay, all right, now,
I'll just I'll just find it and I'll just buy
the streaming path. No, because this is gonna be a
part of their YouTube TV package. So if you have
YouTube tv, is your streaming service your cable service, right,
which is I think it's sixty five bucks a month.
This is getting folded into that. So it's not like
(17:32):
it's not like it from what reports have been like
YouTube TV is gonna have this and you can pay
for it separately and spend the three dollars that it
is for for Sunday ticket over the course of the year. No,
this is gonna be part of the package, which is
gonna make you have to get YouTube TV. If you
want the NFL Sunday package as your main cable provider,
you'd have to leave Direct TV you would have to
(17:53):
and and who knows what that would mean for direct TV,
But I mean, this is gonna change everything because you
have to, okay, change my cable provider. Hopefully. I like
what I like with YouTube TV, and and I I
admit dan as much as I know about streaming, I
don't know a lot about YouTube TV because I don't
have it. You know, that's not one of the streaming
services that I use that I go to, So I
don't know if it's gonna be any good or not.
It's like, okay, if they had the Sunday ticket bad,
(18:13):
I guess I gotta get YouTube TV for my cable
package as well. Yeah, there's a there's a lot of
questions with this. The first one, I think, you know
the answer with direct TV is this seems to be
the final I don't know, I want to say final
nail in the coffin. But I've got direct TV at
home for the sole purpose of those eighteen weeks of
the NFL season. That's why it's not like it's not
(18:35):
like I love scrolling the channel you know, six ten
to watch the Big ten network. It's not you know,
it's not my you know that it's not the range
of channels, I gotta go way out of my way
to go, you know, to find an Ohio State game
or watch Perdue take on Rutgers. Um. Yeah, so so
when when you're talking about like the added part, and
that is what it is so crucial because that is
(18:57):
what made me get direct TV. So to the point
of full into YouTube TV, absolutely no brainer probably for
them just to to add those subscribers. I would watch
some YouTube um, you know baseball games that they've had
for the last couple of years. But the Prime Thursday
Night came on Amazon is the one that really made
(19:17):
me think like, Okay, this could work. And it's not
it's not perfect, but like Mike Phone, like in what
I would watch it on my phone as opposed to
my my living room TV. It was it was up
to date. There was no leg That was one of
the problems that I had previously was streaming, was there
was there was such a leg And I would think
that the ability to watch whether it be on a
screen or on your phone makes it that much more enticing.
(19:40):
You can watch Sunday take it on your phone right now.
Imagine what YouTube could do with it. Oh I had
I had Sunday, taken on my phone on Sunday. You know, well,
I mean it's it's a it's a thing now because
if you have it, you have the appen If I
want to watch one game but I want to keep
an eye into the gap, I'll watch this game on
my phone for a couple of minutes and and look,
you make a great point about the lag time and
the problems is because now there's no putting up with that,
(20:00):
whereas a few years ago. Ah, yeah, streaming is here,
but yeah, but you know what happens. Yet I got
a little bit of upset because there was too much
lag time or it kept stopping and starting. So I'll
just go back and watch tomorrow. Now, that's like the
death knell. Like if you can't if you can't get
everything right all the time, people aren't gonna uh dig
your product anymore and get it. Well, there's other better
(20:20):
product I can get. I can get TV shows I
want on Hulu or on Amazon. I don't need X,
Y or Z and it. It's it's kind of shocking
me honestly that YouTube is gonna is doing this because
I thought, for certain go you know, you want to
go back a couple of months that this next few
years was going to be a settling of the market
(20:42):
for streaming services, whereas they grew so much so fast,
right we have you had the you know they have
the MLB games on Apple TV, and you had Amazon
getting the Thursday Night package, and everybody's spending a lot
of money. And I know there's a lot of streaming
services that are right with cash right now, but there's
a lot of them, and over the long haul, how
many are really gonna be around in five years? Right there?
(21:05):
There's too many now, I mean there's it's hard to
keep up with, okay, with Amazon and Netflix and and
HBO Max and Apple TV and YouTube TV and Netflix.
There there's so many. Oh this show is on po
it's on Paramount Plus. Oh not Paramount but Paramount Plus.
So I thought there would be a bit of a
of a settling of the market, and you would you
would get it would be downed about, Hey, here's the
(21:25):
four or five streaming giants, right not everybody is making
money and and so so like HBO Max for instance,
would back off and they wouldn't be as as heavily
involved in the streaming market. But instead it's now it
seems like it's nope, We're just continuing to go ahead
because you know, if the NFL is going to YouTube,
YouTube came up with the money they wanted, you know,
because if nobody else is getting involved and you haven't
(21:46):
heard from a traditional package, you know, ESPN doesn't have it,
or or they're not going to re up with Direct
Tv has been a great partner for the NFL for
so long. The money's got to be absolutely large, Like
the money's got to be three billion dollars if you're
gonna say we're going to YouTube TV now away from
we we did the little Dip Bartoe in the Amazon,
but that's one game a week, and okay, and we
(22:07):
can see how that works. And okay, that worked out
really well. Now we're okay with this whole package going
to someplace where it's kind of okay, We're we're throwing
our hands and going okay. Hopefully everybody winds up getting
subscription to this place and and and they wind up
not going under or whatever else you're wondering and hoping
about about YouTube TV. But this tells me that they
did so much money on this that that that it's
(22:30):
gonna be way over the number we're gonna get at
the end. I gotta say it's gotta beat it's probably
double what it's gonna be double the one and a half.
It's gotta be at least three billion dollars. I would guess, Yeah,
it's this. This is let me ask you, this is
a better way to do it. Where were you when
Fox emerged? Were you in New York City? We're man,
(22:50):
when Fox came in? And you mean when Fox got
the NFL for the first time? Is now you're talking
about when Fox? Yes, okay, when Fox got the NFL
in ninety four, I was a production assistant at ESPN,
so I had a front row for Fox getting the
NFL and what it was going to mean and what
and and nobody knew. It was such a huge it
(23:12):
was such a huge question mark, what Fox getting the NFL,
What was gonna happen? They've never had the NFL before,
and there was so much we don't know how this
year is gonna go. And everybody remember everybody being nervous,
not because it was uh, ESPN was worried that boy,
Fox is coming in and taking me over and there's
no play. This is you know, the mid nineties when
ESPN was the you know, still the lovable empire that
(23:32):
was just growing and growing and growing. And when that happened,
I remember there being so much well, we don't know.
What does it mean for the pregame shows. We don't
know what it means for the games. How are they
gonna do the broadcast? What's gonna happen? We don't know.
We don't know, we don't know. And the first thing
that they wound up people wound up jumping onto was
the score bug on the game. Nobody liked it. Nobody
liked the fact the score was on the television the
(23:53):
whole way through. I don't like it. It's distracting. It's
I don't I know what the score is. I'm watching
the game. I don't need I don't need it. Now.
Can you imagine watching a game with no score on it,
like which, we're just gonna play the game. You don't
know what the score is, or what the quarter is,
what the down is, nothing else. You don't get any
of that. You have to you have to rely on
the on the announcer telling you what's going on instead
(24:14):
of just seeing it. Oh, first and first and fifteen
and from the five yard penalty. There's four left and
they half each team has three time outs. Now that
everybody was so mad. I remember at ESPN war, Why
are they gonna put that bug up there? It's ridiculous,
It's it just takes away from the enjoyment of the game.
That's what it was like when Fox got the NFL,
and that's what I think. Maybe not to that level,
(24:35):
but it's going to change. Where I was was north
central Wisconsin and we didn't have a Fox affiliate. Do
we lose that you don't ever watch the games? Yeah?
You know, yeah, Like I was just saying, like I
lived in north central Wisconsin, we didn't have a Fox affiliate.
Oh good luck watching Uh, good luck in Wisconsin watching
the Packer games. You don't have a Fox affiliate back then. Wow,
(24:56):
they were on. Yeah, they had to pick up a
local affiliate and end up having to air the games
that way. Nuts. Oh my goodness. Uh yeah, this is
really something again we could find as or found out
as early as tomorrow YouTube getting rights NFL Sunday taken.
I'm telling you three billion. If I said the over
under it three billion, I would say over three billion.
(25:17):
Just think about that. Be sure to catch live editions
of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at
ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific. And now you know
to to finish this conversation Dan about about the money
and and and the and what's going on for for
this new deal with the NFL if we find out
tomorrow YouTube TV. I mean, just think about what this
does like such a big day today. You know, the
(25:39):
Suns get sold for four billion dollars. This wasn't the
Lakers that got sold for four billion dollars. This is
the Sons that are getting sold for four billion dollars. Suddenly,
buying the Clippers for two billion looks like a bargain
for Steve Balmer. So you think about the money just
in the last year and a half has gotten even
sillier because if if the Lakers went up for sale tomorrow,
(25:59):
what would maybe eight billion nine billion? I mean you
and you can say before today it was the Lakers, boy,
Clippers went for two billion. Other Lakers probably go for
maybe three or four billion. No Lakers be like eight billions.
If the Sons are worth four billion to buy, it's
worth eight billion. And now you're looking at three billion
dollars for the TV rights, potentially for YouTube tv to
get the rights for NFL Sunday ticket with the with
(26:21):
with the league. I mean, it sounds it sounds unbelievable,
but it's just this is the price of doing business,
because live programming you can't make up for it. Right.
It's it's the We're in a golden age of television
now and the biggest things are the streaming shows that
we get that you can watch and consume at your leisure, right,
the big streaming shows, the dramas, and the comedies, and
(26:43):
live sports. And with the streaming giants being taking care
of everything, all the great dramas, all the great comedies. Look,
you know, people don't watch network television anymore. It's just
not a big thing. The only thing that people watch
there are reality shows. And and that's because it's cheap programming,
because if the network's gonna make money, well, reality shows
aren't that much to produce. But the only thing they're
(27:03):
missing is sports. And now they they've figured after a while,
oh we want some of that too. And and and
now I wonder if after the next TV contract, are
we gonna see games on the network anymore? Think about
that for a second, when we come up to the
next TV contract, if this goes well with Amazon, I
mean Amazon is still happy, even though they get really
(27:24):
bad games on Thursday Night. Uh, the Amazon still happy?
This goes well with NFL Sunday ticket. Maybe the next
time the rights come up NFL wise for the over
the air games, it does that go to Netflix? Does
that go to Amazon Prime? I mean, are they taken
off network broadcast network entirely? Because the money they're gonna
bid on this is so incredibly huge. I mean, that's
(27:45):
where sports is going right now. All the stuff we've
taken for for granted for a while, the games are
gonna be on TV, They're on free TV, they're on
whatever the lowest cable package you get, because you know,
it's still Fox and CBS. And now I wonder if
that if that's gonna be the next time we go,
you're gonna say, hey, where are all the games on Sunday?
While the local games in Amazon on our area are this,
(28:06):
the local games on Netflix are this, And that could
be where we're headed. I still think that there is
a place for the network broadcast and it's almost like
maybe we've come full circle. You know, Monday nights going
back to some ABC broadcast. I know it's not every week,
but you know, the the cable aspect of the big event,
(28:26):
I think is has hurt some big events, UM like
Monday night football. I think it's certain like the Final Four,
you know, like the Final Four on TBS does not
have the cash a as a Final Four on CBS.
Whether you like college basketball, love it or hate it,
it's it's just different. But I think the network aspect
will still be there in ten years, UM, twenty years.
(28:46):
Different story. And I feel like an absolute dinosaur because
in talking about you know, I just told you you know,
I had direct TV. I was a cable guy through
and through like that that's who I was, and Sunday
Ticket made me change. But there's so many people who
are no. I don't know. I don't I don't have Gable,
don't have satellite. I just stream. Like I feel like
(29:06):
I am such in the minority in watching sports and
how I consume sports that if I'm not a dinosaur now,
I will be in ten years. I still think networks
will play. But to your point about these other streaming services, heck,
the college football Playoff is gonna be up for grabs,
you know, and and trying to determine those things. Um,
and I don't think you're gonna see streaming services there.
(29:27):
I think you'll see a Fox ESPN split. Twenty years.
I think you're probably right. Ten years. I still think networks,
I don't know. Ten years. You're talking about where most
of the contracts come up at at an early thirties,
And are they still gonna the broadcast networks still gonna
have the money then or is it gonna be Listen, Hanna,
here's here's twenty billion dollars. Okay, thanks, that's what we're
(29:49):
gonna do. Who know who knows what Google's gonna own?
Then that's the other things. So uh so again, a great,
big developing story with this, with the NFL potentially going
to YouTube for Sunday ticket Jason Smith Dan Buyer in
from Mike Harmon coming up next, You got more from
the NFL? Can I still get and I told you
so about a quarterback who it took just a little
(30:11):
bit longer for him to break out and become a superstar.
It's coming up next right here. Jason s Met Dan
Buyer from the tirect dot Com Studios, Fox be sure
to catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with
Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio app
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon.
(30:32):
Dan Buyer in for Harmon tonight. He sounds sexy, how
he does? Dan Buyer does sound sexy, especially when his
comrex box allows him to say things like nicks and
stability and all kinds of fun stuff like that. Uh,
I got you know, Dan, you are going to be
very uh, You're gonna be very impartial on this. So
it's it's it's good that I can ask you this.
So at the end of September, I said, it's all
(30:57):
gonna be happening now for Trevor Lawrence. He's figured he's
figured it out, he's got the right person with him
in Doug Peterson, and a month from now we're gonna
be talking about him as a top ten quarterback in
the NFL. It took a little bit longer, okay, instead
of the instead of the end of November, instead of
the end of October, it's we're into the middle of December.
(31:18):
But he's there and he has been absolutely fantastic, especially
you look at what he's done in the last month.
I mean he's got fourteen touchdowns and one pick since
the beginning of November. Right, the last two games for
Jacksonville he's won by himself and it's been and he's
still throwing the guys like Zay Jones and Evan Angerman
guys like, really, this is what you're doing. And the
(31:40):
Jagguards are sneaking up on the ANFC South now scaring
a lot of people. Uh, they get Calvin Ridley next year.
Don't forget about that. He comes back. He plays hree um.
If you asked me about Trevor Lawrence right now, who
I would want if I can say, any quarterback for
next year, right, just for next year, not for the
next ten years. Right, he's who do you want as
(32:00):
a quarterback for next year? I Trevor Lawrence would be
like periphery top five, Like, I don't know that I
have more than five guys ahead of him saying who
I would want for next year. He's taken that big step.
So I gotta think that I get that. I told
you so, even though I was off by a month
on it. Yes, No, do I get it. Yes, No,
I guess uh you know what I think. Uh, I
(32:23):
think that's what happened. I think I think that broke
dance comeras again, the whole Trevor Lawrence thing. It broke
his comeras again. Uh No, look, Herbert, Herbert and the
whole Herbert. What are you doing, Dan? Dan? You're on
a delay for me? Dan? All right? Uh? Look, I
think I get the I told you so. I think
(32:44):
I do, because Lawrence has become this guy in this season.
Right when the Jaguars hired Doug Peterson, it was such
an easy decision, and I can't believe that there was
so much thought put into, oh do we want to
Peterson is our head coaches? He got the guy won
a Super Bowl with Nick Foles. The guy has been
(33:04):
a pretty good quarterback guy, he's an offensive coach. He's
been to the top of the mountain in the past
seven years. Why would you not want him? And he
comes in and suddenly it seems like, Oh, it was
the easiest thing in the world. How did we not
see it? Sometimes it's really hard to you get ideas
in your head. Uh Peterson, he flamed out in Philadelphia
the end wasn't that great And now look where we're at. Ah,
(33:25):
the Jaguars are gonna struggle. Now he's come in and
again it took a little bit because what it was
this year was he got out to a pretty good
start and then the NFL adjusted and then it was Okay,
this is it for Trevor Lawrence. This is where either
he readjusts and he becomes this quarterback and this is
the guy he's going to be the rest of his career,
or well, he had a pretty good start and now
(33:46):
we're gonna fall back into it. No, he has readjusted
and you go back. I mean since the beginning of November,
and he's thrown one pick and the one pick was
Sunday against Dallas. Right, four touchdowns here, three against Tennessee.
Um that they don't beat Detroit. He has a bad
game there, but they beat Baltimore. Throws three touchdowns. They
(34:08):
lose the Kansas City, but he throws a couple of touchdowns.
They beat the Raiders twenty. Here come the Jaguars. Just
like last year. I said, was the era of good
feeling on the way for the Bengals, because hey, the
next decade is gonna be great. Because you figured out
the quarterback position. I don't know the Bengal No, no, no,
Then Joe Burrow is it. He's the real thing. You
(34:30):
have figured things out. And the fact that he has
become this guy this early, he's healthy. The next ten
years are gonna be great for the Cincinnati Bengals. And
look where they are. Super Bowl last year and here
they are right now. Maybe they're playing the best of
any team in the a f C. Maybe by the
time we get to the end of the season in
three weeks, they're right up with Well, it's either the
Bengals or the Bills or the Chiefs. They're the three
(34:52):
best teams in the a f C. I wouldn't bet
against the Bengals. I wouldn't bet against Joe Burrow in
this situation. Uh, that's where the Bengals are. The Jaguars
are in the same place there, in the same place
with Trevor Lawrence because he has become a star player.
And I mean it when I say that, if you
asked me who I would want as my quarterback for
next year and and I don't mean oh, looking at
(35:14):
the rest of their careers, I would want so and so.
But he's thirty five. How many more years is he
gonna play? No. I just mean, if you are looking
at quarterback you want for next season in the NFL,
there's only five guys that I would definitively take over
Trevor Lawrence, I would take my homes, I take Herbert,
I take Burrow, I take Alan and I probably would
(35:34):
take Jalen Hurts right, and then I would take Lawrence.
Lawrence and and Lamar Jackson are kind of right there together.
That's how much he's improved over the course of the
past few weeks. He has become the guy. So if
I got I told you so, but it was a
month late. I think a month I think I still
get that. Twitter at how about a Fresca Dan at
Dan Buyer on Fox At Jason Smithshi with Mike RM
(35:56):
and Dan in from Mike Coming up next, something about
the Patriots meltdown that is not being talked about enough.
That's straight ahead right here. This is Fox Sports Radio
Direct dot Com Studios.
