Husky Arty Spaniard in for the guys, Jason Smith at
his best. Fread Mike Harmon right here on Fox Sports Radio.
Good evening, Vjhi you doing tonight, buddy.

Speaker 5 (01:00):
I'm always doing that standings I always tell people. Man
if I wasn't, I would never tell anybody but my
two therapists in God anyway. But look, don't be trying
to start off being my friend. I'm reading this text
message that you just say to how you was gonna
start this show, So don't try. Don't try to finagle
me and be all nice and then but then tell
me what you just told me in this text message.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
I text, I said, I got to start by ripping
you guys. Don't don't be all sensitive or anything like that.
But well I have to start like this. First of all,
our producer Ryan Wursinger, there's the reason why I fired
him three times. He's like, all right, did you write
out the show? I go, I wrote out the show
because you didn't put Monci on the show. I said,
I put Monzi, you put the wrong time. I said,
all right, now, I put Manzi in the right time.

(01:39):
You only put it down for one segment. That's gotta
be two. I go right now, Bonzi's got two segments.
Can you explain the segments to me? No, I can't
explain the segments to you. You gotta ask questions. What
kind of questions am I gonna be asking you?

Speaker 4 (01:51):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (01:52):
You just go ahead, and you're gonna have to wait.
I can't wait till Bozi comes on. I have no
idea what. I have no idea what to ask her.
What she's gonna do, but I'm very curious. And then
then there's you for crying out out Coming up later
on the show. Vj's gonna have his top six million
people he doesn't like in the NFL, and he needs
like a week and a half to go through the list.
You have a list of the top like six million.

(02:14):
I'm like, can't we keep it to like top five?
You're like, no, no, no, I got the top seven hundred
and thirty seven things that you can't do in the NFL.
I'm like, let's cut it down to maybe ten or
something there, VJ. I mean my goodness for crying.

Speaker 5 (02:27):
Out loud, No, that's low hanging fruit, man, I like,
I like to look, I don't. I don't care about
the moon. I don't believe in it anyway. I'm shooting
for the stars. I'm trying to hit one of those
stars that Miss Johnson in the third grade in astrology
told me that that shot and excuse me, told me
that star is something something something billion light years away.
I'm like, okay, well, how can I see it though,
Like you're telling me it's that far, but I still

(02:48):
can see it. It's huge, right, So that's where that's
where I shoot for man and it's not seven hundred
and fifty seven, it's seven hundred and sixty four. You
gotta get your stats right.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
Yeah, yeah, you're like a week gonna it's gonna take
it like a week and a half just to go
through that list. I don't even have to write out
a show Mejay's top seven hundred and sixty eight days
and we'll just go ahead and.

Speaker 4 (03:07):
We'll listen to it. But we we do have a lot. Now. Look,
I have understress.

Speaker 3 (03:12):
You guys were not working last night, so you may
not know what's going on here in my neck of
the woods.

Speaker 4 (03:18):
Serious, very serious thing going on. Yesterday. Got an email
from the people in my neighborhood. A lot of people
may not know this.

Speaker 3 (03:26):
I live in rural Vermont, and I guess there's been
some black bear sidings near my house. You know, so
I've locked my doors, but you know, I think these
black bears are kind of stronger than locked doors out there.
And I said yesterday on the show, I do have
a bat, but it's more like a whiffle ball bat,
you know, those red ones with the big with the

(03:47):
big you know, with the you know, the big part
at the end.

Speaker 4 (03:50):
I have that I have. I have a knife, but
it's really more like a butter knife, if you know
what I mean.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
You know that we're putting butter on some toast, and
I do have a a big lighter with like, uh,
you know, a liceol can.

Speaker 5 (04:04):
So wow, you got a good knives around there with
all that, With all that cake and coddlers and pods
that you eat around your crib, there's knives. Don't tell me,
all you guys, a butter knife could It wouldn't have
cut that blueberry cheesecake that I saw. So you got
real knives in the crib grab.

Speaker 3 (04:18):
But I'm just saying, you know, but sometimes the big
lighter with the liceol you know, that's how you kill
spiders back when you were a kid and maybe burned
down your house. So I've armed myself with that. I
don't think the whiffle ball batter the butter knife is
is really going to go ahead and save me anything.
I And I got a lot of people sending me
tweets on what to do, People like play dead. Yeah,

(04:40):
I go, yeah, I play dead until until the bear
gets me and he starts eating me.

Speaker 4 (04:44):
And I'm that I'm that I'm really gonna be dead.

Speaker 3 (04:46):
Some people say, I don't know, punch it in the nose,
but I thought that's what you do to a shark,
isn't it.

Speaker 4 (04:51):
VJ.

Speaker 5 (04:52):
I don't know because I don't go that far into
the ocean water where.

Speaker 4 (04:55):
You you don't have to go that far.

Speaker 5 (04:56):
Seems like I've never seen anybody get bent on the ankles,
so that's where the water touches me out. I've seen
guys get bid on the calf Okay, cool, no calf water.
I ain't never seen nobody get bit on the ankles,
bat ankle water for VEJ. Standing at the beach watching
my kids, letting the world observe the dad Bob. That's
that's how I get down at the beach. As far
as the play dead day, that's the stupidest. Listen, real talk,

(05:17):
that's the that's the dumbest self defense thing I've ever
heard of my life.

Speaker 4 (05:22):
This play dead.

Speaker 5 (05:24):
So let a grizzly bear come over me and sniff
me and then still decide whether he's hungry enough to
eat something alive or something that might be dead.

Speaker 4 (05:32):
What was that movie? What was it with Leonardo DiCaprio?
Is that who it was.

Speaker 5 (05:36):
Yeah, I never saw it, but he did. He went
to Oscar for that or was up for Yeah. Yeah,
he barely did any lines. He just got eaten by
a bear. Is that what happens? Okay, I don't know.
I didn't I didn't watch it. Yeah, bear movies, that's
that's the.

Speaker 4 (05:47):
Way I'm gonna go down here.

Speaker 3 (05:48):
I can see him go down to the market and
then the bear's gonna go ahead take me down. So yeah,
I gotta be careful going out there. So I do
have the I think the big glider in the uh
you know, the light sool can is really the best
way to go, though. I I don't know if I
could really pull it out fast enough, you know me.
The bear's charging me, and I'm like, wait a minute,
mister bear. The lighters not lighting for a zec and

(06:09):
I can't get this thing with.

Speaker 5 (06:10):
Us many You'll be safe, non't worry about don't go like,
don't go for nature walks. That's not your life style
right now anyway.

Speaker 4 (06:16):
No, No, I can see the bear coming out of nowhere.
All right.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
We do have a lot to get to. It is
a busy show. We got the next four hours.

Speaker 4 (06:24):
As we told you. If you want to get in.

Speaker 3 (06:26):
By the way, what is your Twitter address, because it
seems like you have a half a dozen out there.

Speaker 5 (06:30):
I only got one man, stop trying to be funny.
His VJ Vernon Husky at the Big Vanilla Funny. Just
find me at the Big Vanilla Funny. I'm tagged. I'm
on Twitter looking at the tweet right now, so I'm
tagged with some of the stuff that you threw out there.

Speaker 4 (06:41):
Okay, because I'm already looked at it.

Speaker 3 (06:43):
They already put down our producer put down the rug
address for you.

Speaker 5 (06:47):
No, it's good at Big Vanilla Funny. Oh there, I'm
ready to run.

Speaker 4 (06:49):
There you go, you can reach me. It's stinking genius one.

Speaker 3 (06:52):
Because we are getting a lot of tweets out there,
we'll get to those later on. I'll I like to
read those VJ They're always kind of funny and always
some questions out there, so we'll get to that. I
did want to go ahead and start with the USA
men's game today. I don't know if you had a
chance to watch that. They were playing Australia. Looked real
good in the first half. I got out to a
pretty decent lead, built it to about twenty two or

(07:13):
or twenty fourth. Then all of a sudden in the
second half they kind of fell apart. They weren't playing
defense the whole second half. The lead had been cut
down the five, and I believe, if I'm correct, Australia
even had the ball, so a three pointer away of
cutting it down the tour or maybe even three. They
obviously didn't get a bucket. I think it might have

(07:35):
been four to one point, might have been got as
low as four.

Speaker 4 (07:39):
Check this out. Australia scored sixty eight points.

Speaker 3 (07:43):
In the pay the page, sixty eight. They took it
to us. Yeah, I don't care what kind of court
we're playing on. I don't care if it those from
twelve minutes to ten minutes, six fouls to five fouls,
they let you play. They don't let you play. Hard fouls,
no hard foul. This game should not have been close.
We were twenty one and a half point favorite, and

(08:06):
we looked, we just looked. It's embarrassing this And I
know it's just a friendly game and it has no
ramification on what goes on, but my goodness, when you
put on that USA jersey, have some pride, play some defense.
I don't know if it's the coaching, my buddy Steve Kerr.
I don't know what the heck is going on. Never
should have been that close. Did you care about this?

(08:28):
What did you think of me?

Speaker 4 (08:29):
Jay?

Speaker 5 (08:30):
I thought very very little of it because I'm just
not locked into the USA basketball just yet. I'm waiting
until they get to the group play. The group stages
have been released right as far as the teams of
the group. We should walk through that group on an average,
I think maybe twenty seven thirty points. But I do
think Canada and maybe France can make things interesting. I
still think we're walking away with the gold. I don't
think anybody's beating USA in the gold medal game or

(08:51):
making us take a bronze game and winning that bronze medal.
I don't think that's happening. But the paint is gonna
be an issue. And you talk about defense, No they care,
I think they all. I think all these guys care
that USA is on their chest. They're gonna go represent.
Some guys it's their first time lebron This is I
believe his third time, he started back in four. This

(09:12):
is Steph Curry's first time there. Kevin Durantz got a
gold medal like this. These guys I think really care.
The reason why the defense looks bad is because American
basketball just has bad defense. We have to recognize that
and know that going overseas, the rules are different, the
land is wider, you can goaltend. The interesting thing that's
gonna be for me with Team USA today, the officiating

(09:32):
seemed like it wasn't a lot like NBA officiated. It
looked like international type officiating. Wherever he was like, we're
gonna call you know, obvious fouls, but I still see
walkin try. They still you know, carry the ball by
putting their hair under it. But if they get into
a situation where a team is dominating them in a
post and they're not hitting their jump shot, USA could,

(09:52):
and that's a far stretch, could be in trouble.

Speaker 3 (09:56):
But it doesn't who's dominating. To the point what, we
have big men out there. What's going on? We have
the best out there with Joel Embiid.

Speaker 4 (10:04):
What the heck?

Speaker 5 (10:05):
And by the way, he's a big man, but he
doesn't play in the post.

Speaker 3 (10:07):
Well, in case you didn't know this, VJ, this is
breaking news. Okay, breaking news. Joel Embid's career is.

Speaker 4 (10:14):
O V E R. It's over. It's done with. I
don't care. He just recently wins the MVP. We're on
the downside now.

Speaker 3 (10:21):
He wasn't the same since the playoffs last year, played
half a year. It's done so for him. He just
doesn't look good out there. I don't like the way
we're looking. And come on, now, I don't don't. Tubby
doesn't play in the post. As far as I've been sure,
when you score sixty eight points, you're scoring all your
points against all five guys in the post.

Speaker 4 (10:37):
I don't care if they're in the post or not.

Speaker 3 (10:40):
I'm I'm saying all five guys on the floor, it's
on them that you let somebody penetrate past you and score.
It's on all five guys that are on the floor
that they're scoring in the post out there is my point.

Speaker 5 (10:53):
Yeah, that's that's fine if you make that point. But
we're talking about you said big men. You said where
are big men? That was your statement. So the big
men are and ad should start. I've been on records
since this team got put together. You gotta start a d.
I don't understand why Embiid is starting I honestly, truly
don't understand why Embiid is even there. If I'm Embiid,
I would have taken this opportunity to say, look, I

(11:14):
you know, maybe I missed the Olympic gold medal in
my career, in my life and what have you. But
I thought he should have stayed home and got ready
for this season. It's obviously Philly is pushing in all
their chips this year with all the signings and all
the moves they're making to go get get past Boston
and get to an NBA finals and hang a banner.
But as far as USA defense, we don't play great
defense here in America, so it's not gonna translate just automatically.

(11:36):
We just have the firepower where USA we have the
best players. I know, there's you know, Jokic. Doncic is out.
He didn't make it, so he's not even gonna be
in the Olympics. And yes, I think Canada's got a
nice team, and I think France has got a nice team.
But at the end of the day, we do have
the better players, we do have the stars. They can
play crappy defense, they're still gonna win the gold medal.
So my thought on your original question about what I

(11:58):
thought about this today, Call me after group stage and
ask me again. Now, I mean, we're gonna dominate every
team and then we'll win through our group and then
let me see how it falls there with the bracket
looks like. Then I'll say what I think.

Speaker 4 (12:11):
Dominated. We didn't dominate today.

Speaker 3 (12:13):
Then we had some guy named Jack Lansdale take us
the task for score twenty points.

Speaker 5 (12:18):
We're gonna dominate our group.

Speaker 4 (12:19):
He's like a Hall of Favor.

Speaker 5 (12:21):
Australia is a good team. Australia, they're not nice to read.

Speaker 3 (12:24):
Daniels went sixth freight, scored fourteen points.

Speaker 4 (12:28):
I mean they were taking us apart.

Speaker 5 (12:30):
Arnie, Arnie, Arnie. Australia is a good team. Though they
got good play, they're a good team. Twenty go look
at our group about our group is very easy.

Speaker 3 (12:40):
Yeah, that's fine, but that that still doesn't make up
just because our group is easy, it still doesn't make
up for the effort that we gave today.

Speaker 4 (12:47):
That we allowed.

Speaker 3 (12:48):
I mean, if it wasn't for Patty Mills that haveing
a good shooting day, who knows, they may win that game.
We're twenty one and that point Favorite It's not the
fact that it's a friendly game and it was semi close.
It's the fact that we have the USA jersey on,
and you know, these Olympics are important. We want to
go ahead and win this thing. Go ahead and show
some pride. All I hear about is, oh, who's gonna start?

(13:09):
Even you said, well, I thought, Anthony Davis.

Speaker 4 (13:11):
You know what, it doesn't make it. I should start.
It doesn't make of it who starts it.

Speaker 5 (13:17):
You still a lardie, You still do got a little
jumpy on you.

Speaker 4 (13:20):
You still got a little jumpy a videos. It doesn't
make a difference who starts.

Speaker 3 (13:25):
I don't care. You want to start the five worst
guys on the team. It doesn't make a difference to me.
Just have a little pride. I didn't think we had
that pride today. Thank goodness that some people stepped up.
Booker came up with some big buckets, so did Anthony Davis.
But it, uh, you know, we shot decently. Steph Curry
didn't shoot the ball so well.

Speaker 5 (13:44):
I'm surprised that it's not a jump shooting team though.
That's the problem. That is one thing that is the
problem with this team. When I look at this team,
and I go, okay, we have star power, like we
have star power for days, but this is not a
jump shooting three point We have Steph Curry and that
is supposed to you know, I guess take care of
all of that. Halliburn and can also Tyrese Haliburd. He

(14:05):
can also hit the three. Anthony Edwards is okay, He's
he's a to me, he's an average three point shooter.
He can get on streaks and hit a bunch, but
then he can also go really really cold. This is
gonna be more of a I think penetration wing type team.
It feels like get the ball, a lot of pick
and roll, picking, pop, picking up down that that that

(14:26):
that type of game. When ad comes in, you can
you can slow things now. You can even iso a
D on each side of the block. This doesn't feel
like a shooting team. There's no Ray Allen, there's no
Michael Red. There's there's been teams in the past where
they literally went and made sure they got like two
three point shooters that were that were good NBA players
and put them on the you know, and put them
on the dream team. Excuse me not to drinking, but

(14:46):
the USA Olympic basketball team. This, I think this team
is missing that in the name Steph Curry kind.

Speaker 4 (14:53):
Of you know, it glosses over.

Speaker 5 (14:55):
He's like, well, hell the hell they got stuff, which
rightfully so he earns that type of a they got Steph.
But if STEP's off, who else is gonna be banging
down the threes for us in the Olympics. But who's
stopping Lebron on the wing, Tatum on the wing, Airwards
on the wing, a d down on the block in
a bam out of bio doing. Who's gonna what other
country has enough guys to stop all of that? It's

(15:18):
just my main point today. I give you, I give you,
I give you today. It was Australia, but it was today.
If you like the effort today, that's fine. But it didn't.
It didn't move me either way.

Speaker 4 (15:28):
All right, let me ask you this.

Speaker 3 (15:29):
Look, I don't want to reach for things, and I
know this is going to be a little bit of
a reach. Steph Curry one for six, all from three
point range. And I didn't really know this until just
a couple of weeks ago. This is his first Olympics,
first whippers. Yeah, he's always taking the time off. Did
he get a little bit of the of the nerves,
a little bit of the butterflies before the game, or

(15:50):
no yet, you can't get the button no one for six.

Speaker 4 (15:53):
Then that's just it's.

Speaker 5 (15:54):
Just cold night, man. It's they're over. Do you know
where they played, right? They're on the other side of
the world right now, right right? Yeah, yeah, they're on
the other side of the world. They just got off
a flight. And I didn't know that until I saw
the clip of all the I don't want to mess
the name, but all the chiks in Arabia, Yeah, that
were that were welcoming in and the flash bubbs. You
can always tell American flash bubs and international flash bubs.

(16:15):
I'm like, where they are and I ready to catch this, like,
oh wow, they've already left Vegas. They're on the other
They're on the other side of the globe, so you know,
maybe tired, you know, jet lag, that's a long flight, man,
And then you gotta suit up and play against a
good team that's that's playing their ass off. They're Australia
trying to win today, you know what I'm saying. No,
they were, there's no toath they were playing hard. I
will I will give you that they were playing tough.

(16:36):
They got behind in the first half, they made a
good run. They it was I thought it was like
twenty four before they made like a fourteen to two
running and cut into the lead. And next thing you know,
it was a five or four point games as they
weren't good enough STEPH one for six. You know, and
think about it, all those points in the paint STEPH
one for six. You played your ass off, and you

(16:56):
know there's people that think America didn't give it their
all and you still couldn't beat it.

Speaker 3 (17:00):
No, no, if you want to get in real simple
at Big Vanilla Funny.

Speaker 4 (17:05):
I get that right? Did I get that right?

Speaker 5 (17:06):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (17:07):
Man, I just want to make sure you know you
couldn't make it easier for me. You couldn't do something like.

Speaker 5 (17:14):
Like stinking like stinking geniuses on everybody's countinking genius one.

Speaker 3 (17:18):
Well, could you just say at VJ would not have
been that wouldn't have been easier.

Speaker 5 (17:22):

send this a tweet.

Speaker 3 (19:45):
I know we're getting a lot of them, so it's
at big vanilla funny.

Speaker 4 (19:49):
I'm it stinking genius one. So we'll get to those
later on.

Speaker 3 (19:53):
I know people are tweeting it like crazy, by the way,
and I know you're tired of talking about this. VJA
and my buddy b suddenly partner Chris Plank almost tore
my head off when I brought up Bronnie.

Speaker 4 (20:05):
But he's playing tonight.

Speaker 3 (20:06):
The Celtics are playing the Lakers in Summer League action.

Speaker 4 (20:11):
Bronni will be playing.

Speaker 3 (20:12):
It actually starts in a couple of minutes from now,
so we'll have to give updates. I mean, he's in
the news out there, but I know a lot of.

Speaker 5 (20:19):
We don't have to give updates. Don't do that. Don't
do that.

Speaker 4 (20:23):
Don't you know you're just tired of broddy, right? We
all are your your partner on Sunday Night? Is you
just said that? But you know what, I'm still intrigued.

Speaker 5 (20:33):
I I have to watch explain Arnie.

Speaker 4 (20:36):
I gave for explain.

Speaker 5 (20:37):
Why are you so locked into Brownie at this point?

Speaker 3 (20:39):
I well, because I want to know if he's going
to make the team. He doesn't deserve it after the
first three games, and he's probably gonna have to start
in the G League.

Speaker 4 (20:49):
But of course we're fascinated.

Speaker 3 (20:51):
We're fascinated because of where he was taken, because who
he is.

Speaker 4 (20:56):
Is he going to make the team? Is he gonna
have to go to the G League? Is he going
to stick around?

Speaker 3 (21:00):
I mean, look at the size of the crowds when
he plays.

Speaker 4 (21:04):
He's like a many Kate lu Clark out there.

Speaker 5 (21:06):
You know you you actually are wondering whether he's gonna
make this team or not? Are you serious?

Speaker 4 (21:12):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (21:13):
Yeah, absolutely, you honestly.

Speaker 3 (21:16):
No, But there's a lot of I mean, they could
be like Yannis his brother, right he.

Speaker 5 (21:20):
Said that' where I'm going let me let me get
it out. You think Lebron, James and Rich Paul did
all this maneuvering, all this power play, and rightfully so
if you got the power, you want to use it.
I'm not mad at Lebron, even though I'm not a
Lebron guy. I'm not mad at Lebron for wilding his power.
Just don't deny me that he's willing his power. That's
where I always get into it with guys when it
comes to that. But you think this man and Rich

(21:41):
Paul willed their power all this time, got their son
to the Lakers, and you think Genie Buss or Rob
Polenka is sending this man to South Bay.

Speaker 4 (21:51):
He will make the roster.

Speaker 5 (21:53):
He's gonna sit on the bench and be on the
sideline way more than people think. If people think they're
gonna shuffle him in and out, in with the G League,
up to the NBA, down to the GLI. If people
think that that's legitimately gonna happen this season, I got
some ocean side real estate in New Mexico.

Speaker 4 (22:09):
That's beautiful. It's gorgeous. I agreed with you. I thought
that he was gonna be on the top.

Speaker 3 (22:14):
But the fact, the fact that he's off to such
a bad start, oh for twelve from three point matter
even if he well my old point is, even if
he hit like two or three, it's like, well, he's
as a project.

Speaker 4 (22:25):
We're gonna develop him.

Speaker 3 (22:26):
If it gets like this or continues along this path,
I think he'd want to go to them and say,
you know what, I want to go to the G League.

Speaker 5 (22:35):
But I got not about him This is not about Briny.
That's what everybody keeps about Lebron wanting to play with
his He's been telling us this for a decade. I
think it's time we just start listening to the man
and believe what he's telling us. This is not about
all want to get myself in the NBA and get
him down to the G League and have him work
his way up. It's I want to play with my
son period.

Speaker 4 (22:56):
Right right, So here we are.

Speaker 3 (22:57):
That's well again, I mean, so you think he'll be
out the opening day roster when they the NBA.

Speaker 4 (23:03):
You think Lebron?

Speaker 5 (23:04):
You think Lebron wants to take the embarrassment of getting
his son to the Lakers and him not making the
opening night roster.

Speaker 4 (23:10):
People, are we not paying attention to the man?

Speaker 3 (23:12):
Well, let me ask this, when do they play together?
You can't just put in Brodny in a fourth quarter
will blow out.

Speaker 4 (23:18):
You can't do that.

Speaker 3 (23:18):
You have to at least make the first time they
get on the court together meaningful, like Broddy checking into
the game with two minutes left in the first quarter
and gets to finish out the first quarter or something
like that.

Speaker 5 (23:28):
He'll get it too the game when Lebron James gives
the feeling and the passive aggressive energy that he wants
his son in the game. And once again, I'm not
mad at him. This is this was the plan all along.
So why do we think he is gonna now, you know,
like avert from the playing. This has been his plan.
This is this is the culmination for him.

Speaker 3 (23:49):
So you don't care, like you're not watching the game,
you know, you don't care less about season right in
the state league. No, I understand that normally we wouldn't
be watching summer league. You just like you don't care
what Brody does in somebody really knows you, Like I
told you my partner on something, Chris Blake, he was
fed up.

Speaker 4 (24:06):
He just can't take it.

Speaker 5 (24:07):
I don't care what none of these guys doing in
the summer league because it don't mean nothing.

Speaker 4 (24:10):
It's it's it's for good for them. The guys.

Speaker 3 (24:13):
I do like to watch, you know, like I'll wait
to the season, you know what. I just like to
see what they have, what they can do, like connect
for the Lakers or the.

Speaker 5 (24:22):
Guy he shouldn't even play anymore. He's already he came out,
had a bomb first game, all right, buy let's go
ahead and get you trained. Let's go and get you
ready for your He's playing against a bunch of guys
know and know dis but I covered the team, I
cover sports, I know this stuff you're playing. They're playing
against a bunch of guys who have no shot in
making the NBA. They're gonna be overseas, They're gonna be
in the G League, or they're gonna be out of basketball.

Speaker 4 (24:44):
That's just the reality of it.

Speaker 3 (24:45):
A lot of them do play overseas and makes funny
and have a living about.

Speaker 4 (24:49):
That, and that's great.

Speaker 5 (24:50):
I'm not knocking it, but they're not gonna be wearing
National Basketball Association uniforms. Connect showed I'm legit. He showed
I'm legit at Tennessee. He came in on his first,
his first summer league game. Yeah, no, listen, these guys,
these like real talk. These guys out here, they can't
mess with me. Hey, hold this twenty plus on efficient shooting,
playing defense, rebounded. If I'm the Lakers brass, I'm like,

(25:11):
all right, buddy, that's enough. It's a shutdown. You don't
need to play no more. Right, we know what you
can do. Let's get him ready. Let's get him training,
Let's get him the title Lebro, whatever we gotta do.
Let's get ready for the season. Let's get ready for
training camp.

Speaker 3 (25:21):
Yeah. Well, the crowds are there, and then you know,
at least they give him a good ovation.

Speaker 4 (25:25):
I think a lot of people are rooting for the kid.
They want to see him do well. I love the kid.
I do.

Speaker 5 (25:29):
I've always loved Brownie. I just don't know if he
wants to be a lifelong basketball player. He seems like
he wants to be more like one of the kind
of YouTube influential type of young celebrity kids that the
world has produced now, which is nothing wrong with that either.
I think that's what he wants to be. I do
get that feeling.

Speaker 3 (25:42):
By the way, you want to get on in real
simple you can tweet us at Big Vanilla Funny. I've
been sticking Genius one. We'll get to that a little
bit later on. I do want to talk about the
anthem for the home run contest. I do want to
get to Devanta Adams also, So all that coming up,
But first we take a look to see what's treading
out there. Are First check in with Moncey. How you

(26:04):
doing what's going on, Arnie?

Speaker 4 (26:06):
It's been a while.

Speaker 2 (26:07):
How are you?

Speaker 3 (26:09):
I hired Monsey a long time ago. And five she
gets around to talk to me.

Speaker 4 (26:15):
What's going on? It's been a long time.

Speaker 5 (26:17):
I miss you.

Speaker 4 (26:18):
I hope all is well over there.

Speaker 3 (26:20):
Uh?

Speaker 7 (26:21):
You mentioned the national anthem?

Speaker 5 (26:23):
Now do you want me to play a little bit of.

Speaker 3 (26:25):
It for you?

Speaker 4 (26:25):
Yeah? Go ahead, right, why not let's.

Speaker 2 (26:27):
Kick things off just a little bit. This is just
a hint of it.

Speaker 8 (26:30):
Oh yes, sounds like my wife's singing.

Speaker 5 (26:47):
Real.

Speaker 4 (26:47):
Are you talking?

Speaker 6 (26:48):
Yeah?

Speaker 7 (26:48):
I said this was me seven shots in on Tuesday,
go fast.

Speaker 5 (26:52):
That's my first I didn't I was busy prepper for
the show. I didn't watch the derby. I didn't see that.

Speaker 4 (26:57):
Are you serious?

Speaker 5 (26:57):
I was today?

Speaker 4 (26:58):
That was it.

Speaker 7 (26:59):
You should have seen the guy's faces as it was.

Speaker 4 (27:02):
And also it didn't like end like that.

Speaker 7 (27:04):
It started like yeah and continued the entire time.

Speaker 3 (27:09):
She's a Grammy a four time Grammy Award winner. Two
that goes to show you that auto tune make me
sound like rank to.

Speaker 4 (27:15):
That handle one handle gez like who was that? Whatted ingrid?
Andres she sing?

Speaker 5 (27:23):
She's been nominated. She's been nominated for Grammy for its
not one, but nominated. Ain't the way in hell she won.

Speaker 7 (27:30):
Sounded like that the fact she was nominated though, j
that's fine, that's politics, that's politics.

Speaker 5 (27:36):
But it was good.

Speaker 4 (27:38):
No, it's real good.

Speaker 5 (27:39):
Oh wow, Wow, I'm gonna go back to watching.

Speaker 2 (27:42):
She feels better about herself.

Speaker 7 (27:44):
You know what I'm saying is fine. Now she feels
better about herself.

Speaker 4 (27:48):
Roseanne bar feels better about herself.

Speaker 7 (27:52):
Everybody, Lewis literally, everyone feels better. She's now the winner,
and not in a good way. Now we do know
who is in the final of this home run Derby.

Speaker 5 (28:02):
It is Dodgers.

Speaker 7 (28:03):
They also got Hernande's and Bobby Wood Junior of the Royals.
This is the final. There was a semi finals where
they also got Hernande's and Alec Bohm. Each even went
in a swing off. They tied at fourteen in the
semi finals and then they each had three pitches and
they also got hit two and Alec Bohm did nothing.
So that is the final round of the Home run Derby.

(28:24):
Now the game, the All Star Game, that's tomorrow. Pirates
rookie Sensation Paul Skens is the starter for the NL
and Orioles Corbin Burns will start for the a L.
And I don't know if you guys saw this, but
the Rangers have robot bartenders at tonight's home run derby.

Speaker 5 (28:40):
I like, that's how champions get down that champions do.

Speaker 4 (28:44):
I still have to tip if it's wrong.

Speaker 3 (28:47):
No tipping, No, no tipping for the somebody somebody looks
I was.

Speaker 5 (28:55):
I was into it.

Speaker 7 (28:56):
It looked very cool and it looked like he was
shaking the drinks and I was like, I'm into it.

Speaker 5 (29:00):
I'm into it.

Speaker 2 (29:01):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.

Speaker 4 (29:08):
Thanks ton Monster, we'll spak to you later on.

Speaker 3 (29:10):
You want to get in real simple at Big Vanilla Funny,
I'm in stinking Genius one. We're in for the guy
tonight Jason Smith and his best friend Mike Carmon right
here on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 4 (29:21):
All right, VJ, we heard a little bit of the answers.

Speaker 3 (29:23):
Matter of fact, guys can just play the end again
one more time, so VJC and here because we do
have a serious question. Twitter has absolutely blown up over this,
so guys, if you could play.

Speaker 4 (29:34):
It one more time, I'd really appreciate that. All right.

Speaker 3 (29:53):
Look, first of all, VJ people were on there saying
it was disrespectful. They were up in arms. Look, it
wasn't great. It wasn't It was not a good rendition.
But by no way it was disrespectful or anything like that.

Speaker 4 (30:08):
It just wasn't a good rendition. That that's it. It was.

Speaker 3 (30:11):
There's nothing to get all up in the arms or
you know, be offended about it or anything like that.

Speaker 4 (30:16):
It was like advice, I get it up. I'm not
a very good singer. That that's just the day you
shouldn't be.

Speaker 5 (30:20):
Then you shouldn't be singing it. Then, right, you're not
a good singing You should be saying let me tell
you what she's been nominated for four granby that's politics.
Winning means you're good. Maybe, But let me tell you
where the disrespect comes from. And this is coming from
a former Army fourteen Romeo Air Difference Artillery son of
a Lieutenant Coronado the Pentagon, son of an Airborne Ranger

(30:41):
Master Sergeant Husky, my father and my mother. I have
family in the military. We look at the national anthem different.
When you're gonna sing it, you better sing it clear,
sing it right because it's the national anthem. That's just
the way. That's just that's just the way it goes. Okay,
that's not even like Patriots. So that's just if you're
gonna sing the national them, the song that stands for
the country that you live in, that you enjoy whatever

(31:03):
freedoms you have here or wherever you live. It's it's
one of the greatest things about covering the Kings this
year is when the Canadian teams come they play O
Canada and you see the pride in some of the
Canadians that are in La or that have come down
here to watch the game. I covered the Edmonton and
the the Edmonton and the Kings first round series for
Fox Sports Radio, so I was at all the games

(31:25):
for the playoff series and they play both national anthems.
Everybody's standing up, they're at attention, no one's you know,
it's it's a moment and you have to respect it
by having somebody who can actually sing. Have you ever
seen the baritone guy that sings it for the Rangers.

Speaker 4 (31:39):
Yeah, yeah, exactly.

Speaker 5 (31:41):
That's how it's done. It's serious. You do it right
and when people that's why we make jokes about Roseanne
Bar Carl lewis, what the hell?

Speaker 3 (31:49):
This isn't the way waitit now, this is not the
same as Roseanne Barr who grabbed yourself, and carlouis, no.

Speaker 5 (31:55):
I'm just talking about it being bad. Aren't he talking
about that?

Speaker 4 (31:58):
Was it really that bad? Or that was bad? Does
she not just a great singer? No?

Speaker 5 (32:02):
That was bad. She might be a good singer, but
that was bad. That was that was bad. You're adding
notes and no, no, no, no, no, no, could voices cracking
nah no. On a lighter note for national anthems, do
you guys remember the young girl who got nervous and
couldn't finish it?

Speaker 4 (32:19):
Yes?

Speaker 5 (32:20):
No, no, no. Maurice Cheeks, Oh yeah, coach who was the
head coach of the Portland Trailblazers walked from the bench
and put his arm around her and said I got you.
And the best part of that one was at the
end the way she puts her head on his shoulder
on him.

Speaker 4 (32:36):
And look up and says thank you to him. Bro.

Speaker 5 (32:38):
That was one of the most that, along with Whitney
Houston's national anthem in the Super Fantastic. But those are
the type of moments I you know, that's see, that's
how it's supposed to be, so you.

Speaker 4 (32:50):
Could be okay.

Speaker 3 (32:51):
Flank of Maury's cheeks sings, even though he does have
a professional voice. But he was doing it for a
different reasons.

Speaker 4 (32:57):
No, exactly.

Speaker 5 (32:57):
He came out there to help a young lady who
got the opportunity. This little girl got the opportunity to
do the national anthem.

Speaker 3 (33:03):
Yo.

Speaker 4 (33:03):
She told all her friends in school about it.

Speaker 5 (33:05):
The goddance counselor the lunch lady, everybody, the janitor right
knew she was gonna see the national anthem in the
Rose Garden for the Portland Trail Blazers that night, and
for mare Reice Cheeks to step over there to show
his class and help her finish it out because she
was she was almost she was in tears.

Speaker 4 (33:20):
She's ready to run off the court.

Speaker 5 (33:21):
No, no, no, young lady, that's a coach for you right there, right, No,
we're not going nowhere. I got you.

Speaker 4 (33:25):
I'm shocked.

Speaker 3 (33:26):
I thought you'd be like me saying that everybody needs
to calm down. Twitter's out there with torches just like.
I can't believe this. I'm so offended. Can't mess happen
like that everybody relying anthem.

Speaker 5 (33:38):
Bro, that's just that's that's just the way. It's an
unwritten rule that we all live by and that and listen,
that's how every country lives by. Manzi's from Costa Rica, MONCEI.
Can you mess up to Costa Rican and thattional anthem
and it be okay? All right, it's not just America.
You can't mess up the national anthem no matter where
you live, period, do it right.

Speaker 3 (33:57):
I'm wondering if and by the way, the listeners out there,
you let us know, big Vanilla Funny, I'm it stinking
genius one. Was it just a bad rendition or was
it the point where it was so offensive that it
was so bad it was offensive?

Speaker 4 (34:09):
So let us know.

Speaker 3 (34:10):
I'm kind of curious because Twitter is kind of blowing
up over I didn't hear it live, and then once
Twitter started coming out and people started to tweet me,
I'm like, okay, what's going on? Obviously something happened and
I had to go ahead and check it.

Speaker 5 (34:24):
On on Superstar Dad is going off right now, on our
on our on our time.

Speaker 4 (34:28):
Right, all right, I got you, Superstar Dad. I'll get
to you later, all right, we'll get the sub tweets AUSO,
we will definitely go ahead and do that. Do you
have a VJ. Husky Fox Sports Radio card.

Speaker 3 (34:39):

Bright to here od Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (34:45):

when there's a VJ. Husky card, what do you wear it?
Because if there's an already span your card. I'm wearing
University of Arizona clothing, and I'm looking like I I
play football. Okay, I have a football in my hand.

(35:50):
I got the Arizona football jersey, Arizona helmet. I'm looking mean,
I got the EyeBlack, and I got that.

Speaker 5 (35:59):
Zig looking like al Bundy.

Speaker 4 (36:01):
Yeah, what what does your.

Speaker 3 (36:03):
Cards look like? You tell me what does the vjsy
cards look like?

Speaker 5 (36:06):
First of all's gotta be full body, gotta be head
to toe because I get the shoe game is always
to a point. Navy suit white, yeah, yeah, yeah, navy
navy navy tailored suit, white v neck cut, white tea untopped,
some fresh white sneaks, all all white sneaks, and one
hand holding a football and another hand holding a basketball
with a baseball bat kind of leanked up against my leg,

(36:30):
propped up so that it doesn't fall over, and maybe
like a pair of boxing gloves hanging around my nose.
I like that. That's the VJ card. And don't none
of y'all that's listening steal it. So none of y'all
steal that dope. I d I just gave the world.

Speaker 4 (36:44):
How many VJ. Husky already span your cards for a
Colin Coward card.

Speaker 5 (36:48):
I just thought, I don't know. I know my car
is gonna be up there though, But I also have
in the contract I need like five different outfits and poses,
so you're not gonna be just one card. And I
don't want to be in the booth with the headset
on and you get that picture of me, that candid shot.
I got played of those when I was calling college football.
No I need Now it's time to show the grown man,

(37:09):
you know, big vanilla leiness.

Speaker 3 (37:10):
Do you think people care about those type of cards
you think they want to get? I mean people, let
me say this, people do care, at least they did
when they were growing up about their favorites.

Speaker 4 (37:19):
Trade cards, you know, like hit Kern though, and you
know people like that.

Speaker 3 (37:25):
You know it's they're just icons. They were icons for
your team when you were growing up. Yeah, and Vin
Scully that people love those guys, they forever will be loved.

Speaker 5 (37:36):
Well, not just those guys, you go, Marv Albert. There's
Keith Jackson that's the voice of college football, known as
the Voice of the rose Ball called it the granddaddy
of them all. Wee Nelly, the Big Uglies, Hello Heisman.
I can go on and on for as far as
Keith Jackson's concerned, Michael's, John Madden, Pat Summer all I mean,
I can name like, yeah, those are the guys I

(37:57):
personally grow it, but I've I've grown to love au
Gush Johnson. I love him and Joel Clatt together here
on Fox. I've always liked Akman and and and Akman
and and Joe Buck. They never bothered me as much
as they seem to bother other. Joe Buck gets unfair
now people kill him, and I always you know what, Arnie,
I always ask people, go, why don't you guys like
Joe Buck? And no one can ever give me like

(38:18):
a real valid Oh okay, I get it. Now I'm
still left with Yeah, dude, I don't get it. He's
just he just calls the game. He's just he's a
play by play guy. How do you Why don't you
like a play by play? I never got I never
got the hate that Joe Budd got.

Speaker 3 (38:32):
You know what I love is when his announcers get
hate because they wear the wrong color tie or something,
because it's like, oh, you're wearing the colors of the
other team or or something to that effect. You would
be perfect for that because you know how to dress neutral.
You got all kinds of good Oh yeah, yeah.

Speaker 5 (38:46):
Yeah, exactly. I try to go neutral, but I also listen.
I go home too, man. I make sure that they
know who I'm there representing and where I'm from. But yeah,
there's a lot of announcers. I grew up Jim Nance.
I mean, come on, man, I don't don't think I
can ever like, you know, watch the Masters again if Nance,
if I don't have a soft yeah, exactly right. And
this the super Bowl rotates, so we get some different

(39:09):
we've had. We've had Tariko. I think to Rico does
a great job. I love listening to him, does a
very good job. Yeah. No, no, he's I mean, it's the
reason why he's, you know, thirty years in the business.
