You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
Greetings, Welcome inside, Happy Wednesday, The Jason Smith Show with
my best friend Mike Harmon, Live from the Tirak dot
Com studios tirec dot com and I'll help you get there.
An unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection
at over ten thousand recommended installers. Tirack dot com is
the way tire buying should be. Well, we have a

(00:51):
lot of Olympics to get to. We have a lot
of football to get to. But Buddy, I did some
math today, and I know you don't like it when
I do math. I do math usually a dangerous position.
The only person who does math worse than me is
carme on the bear. Okay, I did math today, buddy,
because I started saying to myself when you lost your

(01:14):
seventeenth straight today, I think this is what the fourth
seventeen loss game losing streak you guys have had this
year seems like it. Okay, So the White Sox now
with their seventeenth straight loss worst record in baseball not
even close. You guys are twenty seven and eighty four. Okay.
I wanted to see what you had to do over

(01:35):
the last fifty one games to avoid being the worst
team of all time. I mean, obviously the Cleveland Spiders,
but they disbanded. They could have gone on a twenty
game win streak to end the season, so we can't
count them to be able to pass the sixty two Mets. Okay,
to pass the sixty two Mets. Go boy, what do
they have to do? What do they have to do
to to really in the last fifty one games, you

(01:57):
have to go fourteen and thirty seven. You are playing
right now at a two forty three winning percentage. That
would be a two seventy winning percentage. You have to
kick it up a big notch to get from a
winning percentage of two forty to two seventy in the
last two months of the season. You have fifty one

(02:17):
games left to not be viewed as the worst baseball
team of all time.

Speaker 3 (02:22):
You know what the great thing is what you check
my math and its right tomorrow. No, yeah, no, I'm
not doing the percentages because it's a waste of my
time and as a matter of fact, that entire minute
that you just spent in whatever time during the course
of your day doing the calculations, you should have just

(02:42):
let it, let it go, buddy, Buddy, I don't like chocolate,
and but non with it because right now the White Sox.
As much as I love my belaguer teams, I do
it so you don't have to, right, it's an extension
of the Mets, like you know, you like to have
that dialogue. I'll just absorb it, you know, like all

(03:02):
of the energy that you could possibly foist upon me. Uh,
because nobody needs that kind of negativity in their lives, nobody.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
I'm just saying, anything worth doing is worth doing right.
And if you go down at the Griffall had said,
it's like, hey, you know, look at look at what
we have an opportunity to do. But I'm saying, buddy,
you are you are not only on pace to be
the worst team of all time. If you don't pick
it up in the last two months. Now. Granted there

(03:35):
is the last month of the year when teams who
are out of it, you'll have some series against teams
that are done and they're playing young players, and then
a few.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
Of those because I mean us and like four other teams. Uh,
you know after Marlins on the schedule that late.

Speaker 1 (03:51):
How many times do we get to play the Marlins?

Speaker 3 (03:53):
Everybody plays everybody, So you know, I mean, look their
final roster. I mean I think they have a c
cmulative salary of like fourteen point three million dollars.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
Of what I've done there. Let me ask you this.

Speaker 3 (04:08):
You're talking about September call ups and you're trying to
be mister Ray of Sunshine. Let me ask you, this
is the guy with the broken leg that they traded for.

Speaker 1 (04:16):
Is he gonna be ready? No, he's not gonna be ready. No.
And hey and listen, hey, Crochet's not gonna have to
worry about pitching in October. So we closed that door
yesterday at door that door is show. Oh yeah, no,
absolutely got that got there, yeah, no question.

Speaker 3 (04:28):
But I mean, look, that whole debacle also expose the
ineptitude of gets and what they're working with the absolute
clown show that Jerry Ryan's Dowarf is running. And I
know there were a lot of memes about his age
and and father time.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
And all that stuff. He's eighty eight. We've got medical marvels.

Speaker 3 (04:48):
We have no idea how this this franchise moves forward
in the case that something does transpire. So people looking
for some quick, easy fixes, you know, and the help
from the Good Lord Almighty. I mean, just don't wait
for it. Go figure out, you know, whether you like
this Bears team or not. Go find somebody else.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
To cheat it. No, buddy, we got plenty of time
for that. This is we are watching what could be
an all time worst baseball team of all time.

Speaker 3 (05:17):
We're the only ones watching it, you and I. The
rest of the world is given up on baseball.

Speaker 1 (05:22):
No listen, listen, hey, no, no, no, no one's watching
your team play. But they're all looking at the games
every night, going to White Sox lost again, they lost again.
They're checking it out.

Speaker 3 (05:32):
When the White Sox or anybody from the Ale Central's
any good, I don't know. They might be okay, but
I guess we have to comment on them now. They
put it in the B block, so let's go.

Speaker 1 (05:44):
Oh man, I'll tell you you know, it's a miserable
experience of these games.

Speaker 3 (05:49):
And and look, I watch it on mute because Stone's
only going to go so far with his criticism.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
The you guy is just over his head.

Speaker 3 (05:57):
This is not a season to bring someone in in
as a new guy who's all sunshine and rainbows because
he has no idea the history and the torment that
people have gone through. He can't relate, he can't empathize,
he can't possibly for nine innings make you feel like
you're having a beer with him and just watching it
in unison. No, he's still over a happy land because

(06:20):
he's still happy that he just got the job, so
he doesn't count. So yeah, it's a lot of text
messages with my brothers. I can't possibly even read those
on air maths how salty they get and doing math.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
That's what it's been. That's still larger point. Yeah, that's
I'm been reduced to.

Speaker 3 (06:38):
You're on the final day of July, this the forty
fourth birthday of Potter, that you have been reduced to
doing math.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
Yeah, that's where you're at. That's how bad it. This
is your biggest look in the mirror moment you made
Jason do math, I hate to do math. Either would
have would make them worse.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
Than than your nineteen sixty two entry into the league Mets.

Speaker 1 (07:01):
Yeah, you'd wipe the Mets right off the face of
the air. Not the worst team anymore, and they were
a team that had no players going into the less
you actually had players. Yeah, you've been trading on that
for what sixty two years?

Speaker 3 (07:13):
Man?

Speaker 1 (07:14):
Yeah, but you guys have been playing baseball for one
hundred sum Man, that's really bad. No, it's an absolute disaster.
I mean, I don't know how many said a word.
I can't stay on radio. I don't know how many
more Met Holiday's kids are gonna come up that could
maybe help you. I mean there's not a lot of them. Man,
went more you that home run today?

Speaker 3 (07:31):
Yeah, and then the father and son that they met
with him, and you know, he couldn't contain himself.

Speaker 1 (07:39):
He had to say, hey, thanks for making this easy.
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (07:43):
I think I might have been a little more. I
would have held out for more than just a bat
because I don't know sure what the bat he hit
it with.

Speaker 1 (07:49):
But that's okay, but it's yeah, I don't I don't
know if we're gonna be saved by a holiday holiday holiday.

Speaker 3 (07:57):
I think that's really the only thing that that will
is that maybe they can get something from Sanna under
the old tree.

Speaker 1 (08:05):
That that rectifies stuff.

Speaker 3 (08:07):
A lot of wishing and hope and hopefully you weren't
on the naughty list.

Speaker 1 (08:11):
Meanwhile, while Mike Harbon's White Sox are now officially becoming
front page news, we're we're in August.

Speaker 3 (08:18):
I was in a really good mood. I'm sitting I'm
having a nice cup of coffee. I had a good
day with the kids. We had a few laughs. We
planned a couple of things for later on in the fall,
looking at the calendar. And then I come in and
you start doing math m.

Speaker 1 (08:34):
That's how it goes, man, That's how it goes when
I do maths. You know, you're my best friend, and listen.
Oh wait, wait, wait now, let me let me just
say this first. I'm not actually doing the math. I'm
on the computer going to a website where I plug
in the numbers and it does the math for me.
I'm not doing long division. That no, at no point
that I am not deleet that was the case.

Speaker 3 (08:53):
Let's let's make sure we stipulate to that that you're
actually doing the math. If nothing else you have, you
had offloaded that to your daughter and forced her to
do it. You know, hey, you've taken most of the
summer off. I need you to practice a little math
for me.

Speaker 1 (09:09):
There you go, I need something right here? Go ahead,
get sharp question.

Speaker 3 (09:14):
Yeah, tell mister Harmon how terrible his team truly is.

Speaker 1 (09:18):
Let's go Meanwhile, I may be and I heard that,
I may wind up man and Pete may hear me?
Take away? I heard you last night? Are you the
real coach of Team USA men's basketball? Because I told
you last night Jason Tatum was going to play today
and the guy with the DNP was going to be
Joel Embiid.

Speaker 3 (09:39):
Well, we talked about the having played South Sudan and
that up and down style of play.

Speaker 1 (09:45):
Not exactly what Joel Embiid does at this point, And
I told you what was going to happen. I told
you was going to be Joel Embiid. It was trending
that way. He only had eleven minutes. He has not
been good. He doesn't look healthy, he doesn't look like
his style fits all of the things you have heard
many people say he was going to be the DNP,
and you know what, he's going to wind up being
another DNP because you watch how Bam out of Bio

(10:07):
and Anthony Davis played today. Is the Bigs against South Sudan.
They wind up winning in somewhat of a blowout. They
didn't cover the twenty nine point spread. But this is
the team going forward, and I think Steve Kerr has
figured out. Okay, it took me a couple of games.

Speaker 3 (10:20):
In and then beats the DNPC and he already promised
him he's going to play against Puerto Rico.

Speaker 1 (10:25):
Okay, let's see, let's see, let's say yay.

Speaker 3 (10:28):
Hey, Steve Kurr, you promised, you said it in front
of a microphone. By the way, Jason Tatum was not good. No,
but I told you he was gonna play Tatum, we
played and that's terrible too.

Speaker 1 (10:40):
Yeah, that's at all.

Speaker 3 (10:42):
It's a very ugly, sloppy United States like even with
the margin of victory, right like you said, nowhere close
to covering that twenty nine or twenty nine and a
half points, but actually started at thirty one and a half.
So perhaps you at least got a couple of points,
so you felt even worse about things. But yeah, it
was not a clean game by any means.

Speaker 1 (11:04):
No, this was a game where it looked like they
were going to blow them out. Right, we said this
is what we said last night in case you missed it,
They're gonna blow South Sudan out. This is one of
those rare cases where a team can say, you know what,
we're mad, right, we took South Sudan lightly. We're still
getting used to the international way things are done. Other
teams are better, all this blah blah blah. We're gonna

(11:24):
blow them out. Ad is going to start because he
deserves it. Joel Ebid's gonna get the DNPCD because you can.
If you're Steve Kerr, you can say, well, Joel, you
didn't look healthy and you've also had not been very
good and he doesn't. And Joel Embiid has not been
a guy carrying himself with a hey, we just want
to win the gold medal. I don't care. He seems
to be a little bit distracted and indifferent press conference.

(11:47):
So this was the time for Steve Kurr to say, Okay,
you're gonna get the DNP today because I can say this,
and it's not something you completely lose face on because hey,
look you have him playing well. But also maybe this
motivates you to really pick it up because maybe we
need you over the course of the rest of this tournament. Right,
you saw Ad had the injury scare, but then he
was able to come back into the game. But he

(12:08):
told you, look, Joel Embiid, he just hasn't worked. Right
from the very beginning. He hasn't worked. And Steve Kerr
gave him every opportunity to get back into this and
to say, hey, be our guy. But with all of
this being said, my big point I want to make
on this is that I really think we are creating
drama that really doesn't exist anywhere else, but the fact

(12:32):
that we're creating it, but this not to be Usually
there's teeth in a lot of things. Jason Tatum and
Tyre's Halliburton didn't play in Game one. I don't think
that was that big a deal. Was it a big
deal for Jason Tatum? Sure? Did he like not playing? No,
Steve Kerr talked to him.

Speaker 3 (12:47):
He started, well, there's no contents quoted. Yeah, yeah, you
know it was humbling. Yeah, because he listed off his
uh run of accomplishments in doing that too. But let
me do the humble bragg First, I got a big contract,
I got all this, so I gotta say it was
a bit humbling coming off winning the title and and
not the correct NBA Finals MVP.

Speaker 1 (13:08):
Let me tell you is that there's no controversy. No
one is upset, no one is grumbling, and Beat is
the one guy who just seems a little bit I'm
done with all of this, right, that's it. But that's
nothing for Team USA, none of it. There's no controversy.
All this is going because all it is for Team
USA and basketball is that just every year we come
to the Olympics, it gets a little bit harder to

(13:31):
win the gold medal because all the things you've heard
the last few years have been true. Yes, the other
countries are getting better. And what we focused on a
lot on the show here the last couple weeks is
that the FOBA rules are so different and players are
either unwilling or unable to change enough. You still see
them getting lost on defense, right, You still see them
making too many mistakes. The best players in the world

(13:51):
make many times. They have a couple of possessions where
it looks like it's an All Star game just gonna
come down and shoot it from thirty five feet? Why
why not because I do that in an All Star game. Well,
I'm we're still still that Cornery.

Speaker 3 (14:01):
He's there, he's not, And in the All Star Game
it doesn't matter because there's a million possessions.

Speaker 1 (14:06):
It's just every four years it's going to be a
little bit harder. But there's nothing from this team that
tells me we're going to lose, right, I mean, there's
nothing from this team that tell we're gonna wind up losing.
When it's all said and done, Lebron is playing at
a high level. KD is playing at a high level.
Bam Adebayo maybe the best big in the entire tournament
right now. I mean, it's just gets a little bit

(14:27):
more difficult, so let's create. So it's it's let's create
drama where this Jason Tatum thing was blown up, like,
oh my god, Jason Tatum didn't play like I don't
think this is that big of a deal. And Steve
Kerr over corrected today by starting him. Okay, you didn't
really need to do that, but I think Steve Kerr
is okay. I want this to go away and let's
play basketball. I think that's why he started him, just

(14:47):
to say I don't want this to be hanging over
us the team. I'm gonna start Tatum right away and
then we can move on. But that's really what it is.
I don't think this is that biggest I don't think
there's that biggest story with Team USA. I don't think
it's that biggest story other than oh my goodness, look
at Jason Tatum not playing. Yeah, and now it's Joel Embiid. Oh,
look at Joel Embiid not playing. Yeah, it's gonna happen,
and the United States is gonna win the gold medal

(15:08):
in basketball. Like I think we're just this was something where, hey,
I can't come up with anything compelling, So let's go
absolutely crazy with the Jason Tatum angle of this because
they're gonna wind up winning and well, they're not gonna
be teams by fifty. So what do I say? Let's
blow this up? This, This Tatum and Bead stuff is
really overblown.

Speaker 3 (15:29):
I'm telling you, well, it's still a comfortable ish win, right,
It's not the blowout and complete obliteration. So anybody that
wants to, you know, fight back on the best this
is the best team ever assembled narrative, right because they
kept trying to diminish the ninety two squad and pull
up like look at these guys, look at the who
they're playing against and all that stuff. Then you know

(15:51):
you gave them some ammunition. So I mean, it's good
for sports talk radio and sports television, don't get me wrong,
as well as all the little micro decisions and the
sloppiness because in the end it's still a fairly comfortable
double digit win. Does it have the same style points,
not at all, And so all the little things you

(16:13):
get to blow up because I got to imagine to
a man, yeah, the egos are bruised, the embid thing.
If nothing else. Everybody takes a victory laugh of the
media to say, see, I told you it wasn't working.

Speaker 1 (16:23):
He had to sit out.

Speaker 3 (16:26):
No, I don't know that anybody was so bold as
you know, do the DNP as we got to yesterday.
I didn't think he'd be a full DNP, but certainly
the Davis in for him makes perfect sense. And really,
you know, the cacophony of voices would have been able
to say, hey, we.

Speaker 1 (16:42):
All get to take a victory lap.

Speaker 3 (16:43):
Let's go ring around here, let's go as if we're
playing some of the old childhood games. But for Team
USA in the end, if they win it all, I mean,
how much criticism can you the levy against everybody?

Speaker 1 (16:59):
You can't right, if they can hope, it's yes, if
they lose its open season, but if they win, it's well,
what which should have been better? What is this the
Alabama football? I know we were twelve and zero, but
you know, a couple of guys only one xactly, I mean,
that's exactly what it what it is right now?

Speaker 3 (17:16):
Yeah right, I mean we're making we're making only watch
like two or three minutes, looked at the final score,
looked at a couple of things in the box score and.

Speaker 1 (17:25):
Just went, wow, what a terrible effort.

Speaker 3 (17:27):
It's like, all right, it's it's not gonna be a
clean sheet again. They haven't played together a ton. You're
doing hockey line changes rules. I mean, unsportsmanlike is the
four letter word of this tournament because we saw that
rear its head again, which is why Joe l embiid
better be ready because you never know when one of

(17:48):
those calls are coming uh from the referees that have
been assembled in France.

Speaker 1 (17:53):

their sport and all the interesting interactions along the way.
We talked to coaches, we talked to players, We tell
you stories, you.

Speaker 2 (19:05):
Download it, you listen to it.

Speaker 1 (19:07):
I think you like it.

Speaker 4 (19:09):
Listen to All Ball with Doug Gottlieb on the iHeartRadio app,
Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts.

Speaker 1 (19:17):
And TJ. Clearly the White Sox this season have been
playing in a land of confusion. TJ. Sorry, buddy, that
was a fastball down the middle. No, no, look, just
like something from Kopek until he got traded. Fastball down
the middle just out.

Speaker 3 (19:33):
Well when he was in the zone right, it was
a fastball dead red down center, or he was missing entirely.

Speaker 1 (19:41):
You have to decide where that ball was flying.

Speaker 3 (19:44):
And oh, the Dodgers took their shot with them.

Speaker 1 (19:47):
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmen live from the
tirach dot com studios. So we talked about Team USA
hoops earlier today they beat South Sudan and look, we'll
get more into that later on. But though who doesn't
is becoming the big made up controversy because there's not
a lot to say. The team is playing great, the
bigs are good outside of embid and what are you

(20:08):
gonna do? They're gonna win the gold medal and everything
is gonna be fine, Like it's we're making stuff up.

Speaker 3 (20:13):
Yeah, but how pissed is Lebron? I don't I don't
think Lebron is pissed. No, No, from the from the
fact that he's playing well, consistently getting up and down
the floor. Yeah, be it flying above the rim, leaving
it up for Anthony Davis for the flush, all of that,
and it's like story nine because of the.

Speaker 1 (20:34):
D n p's bad shot, bad.

Speaker 3 (20:38):
Play by other guys in the minutes they do play
right with four points is a bigger story.

Speaker 1 (20:44):
He's he's fine. No, the guy who's happy that the
that the who doesn't play is a big story is
Steph Curry, because boy, that's the one. That's the one
thing that I really in a micro point, does Steve
Kerr ever have to say, Hey, Steph, Yeah, you're gonna sit.
What do you mean, Steph, you're gonna sit. You're not
hitting threes, you're a one for nine. I don't know
what to tell you. You're gonna sit, But coach, we've

(21:06):
won four championship time. Yeah, I know, I know, we
revolutionize again. I know, I know, But Steph, you're gonna sit.
There's nothing like nothing I could do. You know, Hey,
what are you doing for me right now? Steph? You
know this? This could be an Oh man. I could
have helped Steve Kerr with this. This could have been
a case where if he sat Steph for the first
game and didn't play him, you could sit anybody you

(21:28):
want the rest of the way and no one can
complain because you would say, I just sat my guy.
This is like a youth coach. Like if if a
youth coach is coaching and they sat their kid, like
their son or daughter for an entire big game. I
just sat my kid. So now when your kid sits,
you can't come to me and complain and go, why
do my kid only play half the game? Why did
I You can't compline I sat my kid for the
whole game. I now I have carte blanche for the

(21:51):
rest of the tournament to play a kid whenever I
want to. I wish Steve Kurr would have thought about that.
He could have told Steph Curry about that. He said, Steph,
I'm gonna sit you for the first game. But no, no,
I know, I know, but this is where I get
everybody on my side and nobody has to worry. No
one can complain the rest of the way. All right, coach,
I got you, man. I'm all good here, all right, Steph,
I love you, man, I'm gonna I'm gonna get the words,
kick you some extra cash for this. Don't wory about.

(22:11):
It's all good, Thank you, I appreciate it.

Speaker 3 (22:13):
That would ds me of old corporate softball, where you
can try to convince your buddies like I need you
to do me a solid man, I need you to
I need you to sit, and then the next game
be the other buddy, and they're like, you're kind of
going back and they're like, why are we the guys always?

Speaker 1 (22:28):
Cause I don't have time to deal with the nonsense.
I figured you.

Speaker 3 (22:32):
Guys were sensible and if I I cracked you off
another beer or whatever.

Speaker 1 (22:37):
Drink of the moment.

Speaker 3 (22:38):
Is is the thing going down your gullet that we'd
all be good But now you're mad at me?

Speaker 1 (22:46):
But the hell with all of you. I'm done with
the right this is, this stinks. You can all beat it. Meanwhile,
us women's national team wins their group today in soccer,
they beat Australia two to one and they move on
out of the knockout round. They have a good match
against Japan, and before we get to the golden age
of soccer, which which is here now, the new golden

(23:07):
age for the women's national team is here because from
the rest of the world, I am watching that game
today and i am seeing how the triplets played, and
I'm throwing it out there as triplets because they need
a nickname. Gonna come sue you. No, No, it doesn't know.
Treyigman's got enough worried about.

Speaker 3 (23:22):
No, he's a literalitious guy. You already cannot beef with Lamar.

Speaker 1 (23:26):
No, easily get his lawyers to come after you too. No,
come on, he's not going to hire other lawyers for that.
He's got always worried about Lamar Jackson at number eight.
He's not going to assume me for Treen lawyers, guns
and money. Not gonnasume me for that. But Mallory Swanson,
Trinity Rodman, and Sophia Smith absolutely need a nickname because
this is These are now the players that the US
national team is built around. This is the Dawn of

(23:49):
the New Era. The last two games, they are unguardable.
Every time one of them gets the ball, the entire
opponent's defenses on their heels. They can always make something happen.
The three of them together are unstoppable. And Mallory Swanson's
the key. She's the one when she's come in and
unlocked what the three of them can do. They're all
incredibly fast, they're incredibly skilled, and keeping up with the

(24:12):
three of them is impossible. There's time today when I'm
watching I'm Going Man Australia has dropped six players to
the back line, and all the United when when the
United States has the ball in the center of the
field and they're looking for to make a play, they've
dropped six players to the back line, and the United
States has two forwards on there like they had they
had they had uh Sophia Smith and Trinity Rodman or
it's it's a combo of of of Swanson and s

(24:34):
two players online and they have six defense, six players
back on the line for the two forwards. That's how
much pressure they put on teams. They were great again today.
They probably should have had more goals than they did.
They're even making the mids look good. Rose Levelle and
Lindsey Horan look good today making breakout passes to them,
nearly catching up to their passes that they made because

(24:55):
they're too slow and can't keep up with Sophia Smith
and Trinity Rodman and Mallory Swanson. But they make everybody
look good. This United States team has gone from I
don't know what our identity is now we are the Triplets.
This is what we're built around, and this is what
they're gonna be built around for the next five years,
for this Olympics, but probably the next the next six years,
this Olympics, the World Cup, and then the World Cup

(25:15):
after that. Because all these players are in their twenties,
early twenties, mid twenties. They have two World Cups at
peak level. This is what the rest of the world
should be afraid of. They probably watched Team USA play
these last two games ago. Man, How do we stop them?
How do we hold them back? Because these three just
I don't know what they blitz by everybody they find
the open space. It's become a team where where it's

(25:37):
just get the ball to the forwards, like just just
get the ball, Like okay, you want to mess around
middle of the field, where no, just get the ball
to one of the forwards in the open field and
go like that. That's become what an acceptable off I
could coach this team. Yeah, hey, Lindsey, get the ball
to one of the forwards. Well, it doesn't matter. Let
them do their thing. They will go do their thing.
That's what this team has become in such a short

(25:57):
amount of time.

Speaker 3 (25:58):
Yeah, dominant run in the first staff, but a lot
of anxious moments because no finishing right until Trinity Rodman
finally scores. What's funny in the broadcast is once someone's
got a yellow card in these Olympics, it's kind of
you know, everybody's gotten the memo. Now, Jason, you gotta
be careful because you may lose a match because you

(26:18):
have no idea when the other one's gonna come. So
it's like I should get her out. But then you
had Albert scored, you know, well outside the box. A
lot of controversy with her coming in, but first career
international goal an absolute blast to the upper part, Uh
to the corner. You had the near harand goal off

(26:39):
a set piece header that just a little bit too high,
otherwise a big play. You had some improbable ping pong
action off the goalpost at another point, so yeah, it
could have gotten a lot uglier, but instead it was
you're still clinging to a lead in the final minutes
when Australia finally surmounts attack an attack. So I was like,

(27:00):
wait a minute, wait a minute, all of that for
this take nothing away from your I don't want to
say triplets because.

Speaker 1 (27:07):
Then they're gonna come for eight bucks out of me
at some point.

Speaker 3 (27:10):
But it's the Uh, they're just fun to watch when
they get the field spread and you watch defenders and look,
as a father of a defender, it's when you face
an attack like that, it's like you don't get a
chance to breathe, you don't get a chance to communicate
and try to reset yourselves, and you watch. You know,

(27:30):
at some point that fatal mistake comes, like someone makes
a step in anticipation. That's what happened on the big
goal from Albert, Like they were so sucked in by
the front line. Ball bounces out, She's got plenty of
space to just let loose with it with an absolute rocket.

Speaker 1 (27:49):
It's stunning to watch them play. It's stunning to watch
Sophia Smith get the ball in the middle of the
field and be five feet behind the defender, and with
the ball blow the defender, who has the angle, who
has the space, who has everything to see. Suddenly Mallory
Swanson come out of nowhere and run that center all

(28:09):
the way down and three defenders have to go towards her.
Every time one of them gets the ball, it's a
scoring opportunity. That's what they've done in such a short
period of time. And I'm telling you, man, Mallory Swanson
is just like she's the missing piece, like we talked
about missing her and that looking gets you a jersey
a kit now. I mean, dude, she's so good. I mean, look,
I don't want to take away from Sophia Smith and

(28:30):
Trinity Robbin, but they were not good. They were not
ready At the World Cup last year, Trinity Robin was
just okay. Sophia Smith wasn't ready for the moment. They
are two completely different players now, with with chemistry, with speed,
with confidence, and that's the biggest thing. I'm watching Trinity
Robin make some plays now where it's you could tell
she's not even thinking about it and she's making moves

(28:51):
and creating space and Sophia Smith is just constantly on
the run for the ball and it's it's eye opening,
it's night and day. I mean really it's We went
from the from the the the first incarnation of US
Women's World Cup with Mia hamm And and Brandy Chastain,
and then we were into Abby Wamback, and then it
was Alex Morgan and Meghan Rapino and now it's the triplets,

(29:15):
like like they're they're gonna carve their place in in
in history lore of these were the ones that carried
the team that were the best front line in the
world over a course of a five six year period.
It's just at that point where it's gonna happen. And now, honestly,
I really wonder I go back and I go man
if Mallory Swanson played in the World Cup last year,

(29:37):
could the United States really have won? Like if this
is where they were at when you have the three
forwards that they get that can't be stopped, would she
have been able to help raise that level of play
because she's almost like a star quarterback who can can
overcome a lot of teams ills, right like the Jet
Like the Jets are hoping Aaron Rodgers can overcome all
the things that are going on, Like you know, they
trade for a son Reddick and they can't get them

(29:58):
on the field. You know they're whole. I think, you know,
your star quarterback overcomes a lot of ills, Like I
wonder could she have overcome a lot of ills that
the US the team had their lack of speed and
playmaking and the fact that Alex Morgan wasn't the same player,
Like could she have been that difference maker? And could
the United States have won the World Cup last year
if she was healthy to play? Like it was a

(30:19):
really bad injury and she's back. I can't believe the
level she's back at after a year, but she has
been incredibly something and she's been the difference in this
team right now. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (30:28):
I think one of the things that's been fun to
watch because of the speed burst and what she does
fill in the middle and dragging defenders is we've seen
the growth you mentioned Rodman. One of the big things
with her is the physicality of her play as well,
which is always going to draw a second defender over

(30:48):
an extra step, thereby again leaving Swanson with some extra
room to maneuver. Smith on the other side, as we've
seen in these first couple of matches where you've been
able to make that crossing pass, let it go through
to find Smith open on the other side, or you know,
redirect back towards your mids. So it's it's a fun era,

(31:12):
right you see all the statistics and running it up
against Rapino and Morgan because that's where you're gonna spend it,
even though you know you have to go back to
Chas Stain and that whole group. They just had a
huge celebration at the National Sports Collector's Convention there in Cleveland, Ohio,
where they got a bunch of the team members of
that group back together and the line for autographs. They

(31:34):
made more money probably in that weekend. I'm a kid man.
I saw what the pricing was per person and if
you wanted the group photo and whatever else, like good
for them, people coming out in droves, and part of
it because of the excitement of this, this next generation
and what this women's squad is able to do right now.

Speaker 1 (31:55):
So fun to watch. And you know when the.

Speaker 3 (31:58):
Day starts with Marta Judo kicking, you know, like she
was gonna jump and kick some bricks or something, and
get herself thrown out. I mean, we had ourselves an
Olympic day.

Speaker 1 (32:10):
Right now for a man who Judo kicks at least
one person every day when he walks through the door.
Here at Fox Sports Radio, it's Isaac.

Speaker 2 (32:16):
Lohenkrawn Yes up in the HR office.

Speaker 5 (32:20):
My lengthy file reflects all those interactions we had. Some
major League baseball history come to an end earlier tonight.

Speaker 1 (32:28):
Now the White Sox lost again. You gotta hit refresh.
They lost again.

Speaker 5 (32:32):
I'm sorry, Oh I was.

Speaker 2 (32:34):
I was pre losing them for it.

Speaker 1 (32:37):
Was pre losing, pre loss. It's not pre partying. It's
a pre loss, not pre recording.

Speaker 5 (32:46):
I'm exciting to give birth to a new term. Good
for you, good man, White Sox pre losing. As we
speak in San Diego, the Padres are not losing. They're
leading the Dodgers seven to one in the top of
the seventh, thinking now. Clayton Kershaw was knocked out of
this game after just three and two thirds innings. He
allowed six hits, seven runs, just four of them earned,

(33:09):
but he did not record a strikeout during this appearance,
ending Kershaw's major league record of get this, four hundred
and four consecutive appearances with at least one strikeout. The
last time he failed to record a strikeout September twenty
eighth of two thousand and eight, some sixteen years ago.

(33:33):
The number one song in America at that time, by
the way, whatever you like it, whatever you like rather
by TI must have missed that one September twenty.

Speaker 1 (33:44):
So last the next anybody heard of TI was when
he was on the mass singer.

Speaker 5 (33:48):
I used a TI calculator when I was growing up,
and I think it's a different one.

Speaker 1 (33:51):
Wow, Texas instruments there from Isaac Lohincross.

Speaker 2 (33:55):
September twenty eight, two thousand and eight.

Speaker 5 (33:57):
By the way, the last game ever played at Shay
Stadium before it was torn down, so a notable date.

Speaker 2 (34:05):
Indeed.

Speaker 5 (34:05):
Meanwhile, up the road in Anaheim, the Colorado Rockies have
a one nothing lead over the Angels in the top
of the fifth inning. In San Francisco, the Giants and
As scoreless in the top of the fifth. Houston just
held off the Pittsburgh Pirates five to four. Cubs won
at Cincinnati thirteen to four. The Cubs with seventeen hits,
including Ian Happ's seventeenth home run of the season Olympics. Wednesday,

the US men's basketball team clinched a spot in the
quarterfinals with a what three eighty six win over South

one to win its group. They will face Japan in
the quarterfinals on Saturday. Finally, in swimming, Katie Ledecki won
the fifteen hundred meter freestyle for her eighth career gold medal.

(34:47):
Jason and Mike.

Speaker 1 (34:49):
Thank you very much. I'll appreciate it. Yeah, we got
to talk about that Leadecki heat. We had that Leadeki

we have what could be the beginning of an ugly

for this team, but incredibly fortunate for US summer because
of what one NFL owner said about his quarterback situation
earlier today. That's next right here, Jason and Mike Fox.

App Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my
best friend Mike Harmon. We're live from the Tirack dot
Com studios. And you know what, one of my favorite quotes.
There's not a lot of quotes that I always look
back and go I subscribe to that quote, but I
always go back. One of my favorite quotes from President
Obama is and this is a quote that all presidents

(35:56):
should have. Whenever something happens, Obama would always say, my
opinion on this is evolving, right, Like, it's my opinion
on this is evolving, right, myion, my opinion on this,
this is evolving. And he goes into his ex plan
I'm like, that's a brilliant turn of phrase right there.
You know, my opinion on this is evolving. My opinion
on the tire fire that could be the Falcons this

(36:21):
year is evolving. I went from, hey, look for one year,
it's gonna be fine. Michael Penix is gonna be okay,
not playing. He understands he needs some time. Kirk Cousins
is a little upset about the fact that, hey, he
signed this big deal and now they went out and
drafted Michael Pennix. But for one year, it's gonna be fine.
Now next off season is going to be crazy. Kirk
Cousins will probably get traded because Penix is gonna have

(36:43):
to play. Because you don't draft a guy that early
who's gonna sit a couple of years. It just doesn't happen.
But this year is gonna be fine. Then I see
today and I see what's gone on the last few days,
and I go, oh, no, no, no, this is gonna
go sideways and be a tire fire much eer. Kirk
Cousins is still recent comments not happy with the fact

(37:06):
that the Falcons drafted Michael Pennix junior after they signed
him to a big deal, so much so Arthur Blank
had to give a big statement today talking about how
Kirk Cousins is our guy. Talk to the Atlanta Journal Constitution,
he is our guy. We made it clear to Kirk
and others we were gonna draft a quarterback during this draft. Okay,

(37:27):
well did you do that after you sign him or
did you do it when? Did you do that? But
Kirk is our guys, because Kirk Cousins, I mean, you
didn't do it when you signed him. You told him
after because Kirk Cousins wasn't happy. Kirk Cousins might not
have signed if you told him, Wenna, you were gonna
draft a quarterback. So you know, they told him after
they signed him. But he goes out of his way. Hey,

(37:47):
Kirk is our guy. We love Michael Pennock Junior. Kirk
is our franchise guy all the way through defending Kirk
Cousins to the hilt, to the Atlanta Journal Constitution. I
look at this and I go, this can explode. This
can really explode. You have a quarterback that's still not happy,
an owner who is trying to defend the move. They're

(38:09):
not ready for what's going to happen. If Kirk Cousins
starts out a little slow, if Kirk Cousins doesn't come
back from the injury, if Kirk Cousins just mentally is
not where he needs to be because he's looking over
his shoulder at Michael Pennix Junr. Why did Arthur Blank
even have to speak right now? They are not ready
for the smoke they're gonna get. They thought they were. Hey,
we figured out our quarterback room. What a great room

(38:32):
we have, right, We did it right. We got Kirk Cousins,
We got Michael Pennix junior. Yeah, now navigate that. How's
that gonna go? I thought it was gonna be okay
for a year, but now here we are in getting
ready on the eve of August. Happy birthday, Harry Potter,
on the eve of August, and this is still a thing.
This is gonna go sideways. And I always go to
week five and go whenever I think something can go sideways?
How early early, week five? Early? If Kirk Cousins starts

(38:55):
out badly, how long till they go to Michael Pennant.
You can't draft a guy that early. And no, no,
he's just going to sit. This is gonna go sideways.
My opinion is changing on this. This is a big
day today for that.

Speaker 3 (39:08):
Yeah, I think you can have him sit so long
as that offensive line plays up to par and nobody
keeps Bijon Robinson behind the curtain.

Speaker 1 (39:18):
Again, you can't watch what's going on. Why I want
to play?

Speaker 3 (39:21):
No, No, we're saving you for the future. But we
can win this game now. I don't think the new
coaching staff will have the same idiocracy as they did
a year ago, so you'll have more balance with him
and all jeer out of the backfield. So for Captain Kirk,

(39:42):
as long as the leg's repaired, you've got enough weapons downfield,
you'll be able to make plays. I think you have
a situation whereby Pennix does sit, But I do have
to wonder, you know, has he gone into the offices
and ask some questions. Hey, you know while we're here, Well,
I got you, and we're kicking around and having a

(40:04):
nice donut and some coffee, let me ask you some
questions about the formation of this squad, just so I
have it straight in my head because it's gonna help
me to be a better professional. That's kind of where
we're at, Arthur Blank. You don't need to say this,
just say, hey, this is the roster. We're going forward.
We're happy Kirks here, let's go. They bit off more
than they could chew it. They thought they were the

(40:24):
smartest people in the room by going yep, this is
what we're gonna do. Oh now, good luck now, instead
of good luck next spring, good luck the next month
and a half. Good luck you'll see, you'll see.

Speaker 1 (40:35):
We'll have more of this story coming up next. Another
big story out of the NFL are a superstar quarterback
and a superstar wide receiver fighting Fox
