Hello, Welcome in side hour two of The Jason Smith
Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. Where's the Frank
the Tank? Hobo drop? Ty Shirit? What have you been
doing for the last time?
Speaker 3 (00:38):
Where was a plus ever from Frank? Where's your hot tags? Wait?
Speaker 1 (00:40):
Wait, no, no, where's the hobo drop? Come on, man?
What you can't just keep playing Call of Duty? You
gotta do some kind of work on the show.
Speaker 3 (00:49):
Okay, maybe I should go to break again. You want
to do it?
Speaker 1 (00:52):
I want to.
Speaker 4 (00:53):
Hear Frank the Tank saying hobo. Wait, don't joke about that.
We've had that happen before.
Speaker 3 (00:57):
Oh sorry, I have to finish this. Pine's hard love
for Sureger, I'll be right back for who Max Monsey?
Speaker 5 (01:05):
Right? Sure?
Speaker 1 (01:09):
Listen? Nick Okay, wait, who pitches for the Mets. Is
it Max Schurzer or Nicole Scherzinger who?
Speaker 3 (01:14):
Uh, probably Nicole because Max definitely got kicked out. Uh wow,
and now he's getting a needle.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
Yeah. We're live at the tirack dot com studios tyreck
dot com. We'll help you get there in unmatched selection,
fast free shipping, free road hazard protection, over ten thousand
recommended installers. Tyrack dot com the way tire buying should be.
I should still waiting for your hot takes. Tye Shirts
a lunatic right now. The last game of the night
(01:41):
in the NBA, Denver leads Minnesota forty nine thirty two.
It has been all Nuggets so far. With about five
and a half to go in the second quarter, Denver
looking for that two games to none lead in this series.
We love more in the Lakers coming up in a
little bit because they had a They blew it in
a big way tonight. But before we get into what
(02:02):
happened today with Draymond Green, let me just say I
am not surprised at all at the way the Milwaukee
Bucks are just absolutely thumping the Miami Heat. Even without Yannis.
This is still a championship team. That's getting twenty five
from Brook Lopez tonight in twenty four from Drew Holliday.
(02:22):
He had engles with seventeen off the bench, he's plus
twenty six. Everybody was all doom and glom about the
Bucks in Game one, and you know the Bucks are
bad in Game one, right, Mike. Buttenholzer for some reason
can't get the Bucks going in game one of series.
His all time record is five and seven. But when
you have the cachet, which includes an NBA championship, Yeah,
(02:44):
the Bucks were gonna be fine even without Yannis. The
Bucks were gonna be fine. Not either night where Chris
Middleton is having a huge night. The Bucks are loaded.
They have everything that We don't talk enough about the
Bucks because Giannis is one of those superstars where boy,
the guy is just great and he's great every single night,
and he doesn't have drama and he plays in a
(03:05):
small market. So Yana is one of those guys who go,
wow Yannis. Yeah, okay, Hey, so did you see what
Lebron said not coming back? I mean that that's kind
of how we do it with Yannis.
Speaker 5 (03:17):
But we were talking about that with Jokic. There's only
so much you can do.
Speaker 4 (03:21):
You talk about what they do as is with Jokic
as a playmaker, but with Yanna's all round game, and
it's been a consistent game. It's not like it's a
sudden rise or there's some great elevation in any portion
of his game. Which is why when he did the
humble brag of you know, in MVPs whatever, I should
be the MVP, you know, every year in the last
(03:43):
five years, like it's hard to disagree with him. Yeah no,
and he's probably gonna win this one.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
Yeah no. But look that that's the thing about Yanni's
as great as he is. Like, let's just tak Let's
take this Bucks team right now, right for just for
a second, right if you took this Bucks team without Yannis. Okay,
let's say Jannis doesn't egg, he's not a person. It's
you know, it's Earth seven ninety seven instead of Earth
seven sixteen or six sixteen. And you had the Bucks
(04:10):
in the Eastern Conference without Yannis, this is still a
team that finishes fifth or sixth. This is a team
that finishes third or fourth in the West. This is
as good as Jannis is. This is without Yannis because
they're deep, and you know they go one through eight
even without Giannis. Boy, these guys are pretty good and
they figured it out together. You have guys coming off
(04:31):
the bench that you are pretty deep. You can get
a big knight from Jay Crowder? Are you know what
not a big night from Jake Crowder? That's fine. This
could be a big night for content. It doesn't matter.
You get stuff and even starters. Right, what do we have?
We got Graceno Allen up. Could be a big night
for Grace nown doesn't need to be a big night
for Grace now. Could be a big night for Brook Lopez, doesn't.
They have guys that can do it. Bobby Portus tonight
ten and fifteen. I mean, this is a really we
(04:54):
forget how good a team this is and you add
Giannis to it and I walk away going how have
they not won like the last four championships? So as
good as they are, you can even say maybe they're
under achieving a.
Speaker 5 (05:04):
Little bit, because look, you.
Speaker 4 (05:07):
Now as your hot take you OneD ty shirt, they're underachievers.
But say that about Milwaukee is legitimate. Laid the last
couple of seasons. What have we talked about during the
regular season they're good. We'll see you in the playoffs.
They've been that fine tuned with their depth, with their
ability to have other people step up. Johannison Street closed
(05:28):
as a cheerleader. And it doesn't matter because you've got
the rotation set, you've got depth, and in this particular case,
you got a guy in brook Lopez. You should frame
this one. This should be his stat line, even though
he's only got four rebounds, which kind of interesting. But
Portos is more than made up with it with his fifteen.
(05:49):
But with twenty five points on twelve to seventeen, he
should be holding up a sign like he's Wilt Chamberlain
in the lockroom later, you know the.
Speaker 5 (05:56):
Old one hundred sign.
Speaker 4 (05:58):
Here, I am twelve to seventeen, twenty five points because
I dominated. Nobody on the heat bothered to check me
for an entire game.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
M Twitter it out about a Fresco Mike hat swollen
down the Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmon Live the
tyreck dot Com studio. So there. Yet you could say
the Bucks underachieve with the honest they just like that.
That's good, think about it.
Speaker 5 (06:17):
That's good to take that pood nozar uh.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
But I now have pretty good evians that I think
the Golden State Warriors listen to the show, because today
they all responded to the Draymond Green one game suspension
after the foot stomp foot stomp of Demontes Sabonis. And
clearly this comes to us from very high up. I
mean you want to go really high up to Bob Myers,
(06:42):
the GM of the team, who said, hey, we talked
about about it at practice today and and you know,
Draymond Green addressed the team, and Bob Meyers said he
wanted to make sure Draymond Green didn't make it about
him and instead make it about the team and going
forward and winning in his absence, Because what did I
tell you the other night, That was the worst part,
(07:03):
And that was the last moment where I could say
Draymond Green and the Warriors have his back. I told
you they're going to move on from him in the offseason.
This is this is the last straw, because he made
that moment about himself. He couldn't he couldn't stay composed.
He not only had this footstomp to Monte Sebonis, but
he had to go and be very theatrical and stand
(07:26):
up and scream at the fans in front of Adam Silver,
which you know that didn't endear him, and then afterwards
in the postgame, not responsible at all. Just I've been
getting grabbed. I've been getting grabbed so and I don't
know what and I don't know what happened. I guarantee
you those things contributed in a large way to why
he was suspended because the guy doesn't know when to
(07:47):
not make it about himself. And that's a moment that
we said, listen, this, this is why Draymond Green's going
to be an ex warrior and they're done with his
act because he took a moment that they could have
won a game and not sit here facing it an
O two and he made it about him. All Right,
you commit the foul, you footstomp him, You want to
get upset and get theatrical to referee on the court. Yeah,
I get that, that's fine, But then you go stand
(08:09):
up and start yelling at the fans. I mean, especially
when you have seen in the last couple of years
what's happened with players and fans, right, I mean you
think that's not a big part of what happened with
Draymond Green. Just think about things like the Westbrook situation
from Sunday other back and forth with fans getting ejected
because the players and they start yapping back and forth
(08:31):
with them. Bradley Beal is getting sued because of an
interaction he had with a fan at the end of
the Verge of Sambles and yeah, a fan was mad
because he lost money gambling and Bresley Harley, Yeah, I
mean this is where Adam Silver, this is where I felt.
Maybe this is where he felt I have no choice
because he's standing up yelling at the fans, and who
knows what's gonna happen. You want to stand up and
(08:52):
antagonize fans. What's gonna stop fan? From one? You're yelling
at me and I rush you and suddenly there's a
big brawl or something else happens or you know. So really,
Draymond Green took that moment and couldn't be cool about it,
and he had to lose his mind on it because
that's kind because he's always been a selfish player. He's
always been that guy. You could say, oh, he's selfless,
(09:12):
and no, he's selfless, but he's selfish too. Because that
was a huge selfish moment and he made it all
about him, and that's what the Warriors had talked about today.
This is just who he is. And make no mistake,
all that stuff that went on around it is why
he got suspended. If he just footstomped him and he
walked you you get mad and get thrown out of
the game, that's fine. If he had just walked off
(09:32):
the court and afterwards didn't talk about it, you know,
gave you just the regular surly answers, I don't know
what happened, this, this, I this, But instead he had
to insinuate that I got even I was getting grabbed.
I don't know where my foot landed. Yeah, that's a
big part, and that's that's that's most likely the reason
to put it over the top is why you got suspended.
(09:53):
Had you just blown off the questions and just said, look,
I don't know what happened. It was one of those things.
I don't know why I got thrown out. I disagree
with the call. Just play it out that way. Be boring.
I mean you're talking about, Hey, do you want people
really listening to you and paying attention to you and
more people downloading your podcast, or do you want to
win a game like I don't know what his motivation
(10:13):
is at times, and he clearly can't control his temper
and can't control how he is on the court, and
that's what got him suspended. So you want to know
what it is. You can say, hey, dude, forget about
what went on on the court back and forth. I
get it, you lost your mind for a second. You
did get grabbed, but that's why you got suspended. You
got the flagrant two, which you got to deal with
on the court, but that's why you got suspended. That
(10:34):
is unacceptable, and we can't have a guy in the
team that's going to continually put himself before the team. Again.
That's the moment. They're saying the things they need to
about Draymond Green right now. But in the off season,
where do you want to go, Draymond? We're moving on.
You want a new contract, go someplace else, play for
a year, maybe you'll get it from them. Where do
you want to go? What team do you think is
a Draymond Green away team from winning? And that's where
we'll send you. That's gonna happen in the off season.
Speaker 4 (10:55):
Yeah, I mean, I think it comes back to the
convergence of all of those circumstance, right, if he'd just
gone quietly back to the bench and just been uh,
that was dumb and shook it off and everybody moved forward, Yeah,
there'd be the crowd would be fired up, and we'd
still probably get the the chess contusion X ray and
(11:17):
and all of those things. The little games been shipped
on both sides, and we'll see how that that plays
out overall. But for for Draymond, you just had the
list of all of the transgressions. You mentioned the idea
of well escalating with the fans, and we're not that
far removed. It's always in the back of everybody's mind.
(11:39):
And we've seen so many I mean, how many times
did you see the video? Remember when Isaiah Thomas went
up into the ground and all he did was just say,
come on, let's just stop that, like it was no aggression.
Speaker 5 (11:49):
On his part whatever.
Speaker 4 (11:50):
But here you got Draymond very much trying to egg
guys on and using some words we can't use here
for FCC compliancy. Meanwhile, Steve Current Company, nobody said anything
to him. They just let him keep doing it until
it finally stopped. Like a bunch of dopes on the
sidelines there, so they got to wear it to a
degree as well. But it's the long laundry list of
(12:15):
Draymond's transgressions, the lack of remorse, the yeah, I do
it again more or less is what he said. I
dare you in the old Robert Conrad battery commercial, I
dare you to knock this off kind of thing. Come
and get it. Is what Draymond more or less said
to the NBA calling out the officials, which we know
(12:37):
they really don't like when you go after the officials
and any idea of the integrity of the game being questioned.
We know that we're gonna talk about that for Major
League Baseball again a little bit later on. But it's
just that that idea that it all came together in
and of itself. One of those moments where you go,
all right, two idiots, play on, right, don't grab his leg.
(12:59):
You you can't do the giant wrestling stomp. Everybody good,
all right, moving on, you both get technicals, comber heads,
let's move on. Instead, it's the persona of Draymond Green.
You may not like it, but that's the way the
world works.
Speaker 1 (13:14):
Right.
Speaker 5 (13:15):
You reference law and order stuff earlier, Right, if you go.
Speaker 4 (13:18):
You know, well, if you're going up for that third
trip up the river, it's a much different scenario. Even
if you just stole a loaf of bread like your
Jean Valjean and Les Miss Okay, it's much different if
you already got two strikes on you as opposed to
the third one really being something egregious.
Speaker 2 (13:34):
They hold the same weight. Be sure to catch live
editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike harmon weekdays
at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific on Fox Sports
Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 6 (13:47):
Well Dressed Hobo, There.
Speaker 1 (13:48):
We go, Frank the Tank dropping.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
The hobo ln Well Dressed Hobo.
Speaker 4 (13:53):
You're so happy and proud of yourself for booking that
guest today.
Speaker 1 (13:57):
And we talked to Metz super fan Frank the Tank.
Speaker 5 (14:00):
You may or may not be brothers.
Speaker 4 (14:02):
We could be related. We could be related, So you
went back to related. We're we're pushing for the We
gotta get a direct answer from Walt.
Speaker 1 (14:10):
You know part of me, you know, Here's the thing
is I know and I'll be serious while being while
being funny at the same time, is that you know
this whole twenty three and me thing going on where
you can you know, go in and find people and
everything else and you know, you submit yourself.
Speaker 5 (14:24):
For Yeah, it's all a government scam.
Speaker 1 (14:25):
Yeah, oh no, no, I don't. I don't want to
do it because I don't want I don't want people
to have my DNA because so I wouldn't do it.
But if you tell me, okay, it's safe and the
government wouldn't know it's it's a safe thing to do,
I'm like, I'm fifty two. Do I really want to
know that I have relatives somewhere that I've never talked to.
I really want that because I know.
Speaker 4 (14:46):
I got punny where I know they are and I
still haven't sought them out.
Speaker 1 (14:49):
One of my wife's best friends found out she has
a brother like two years ago.
Speaker 5 (14:55):
Whoa and it looks.
Speaker 3 (14:57):
Just like her And I'm going, oh god, oh my god.
Speaker 5 (15:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (15:02):
So I don't know that i'd want to do that.
I really don't know that i'd want to do that.
I I that would be very difficult. I mean I
realized that that's you know, that's a that's a lifetime movie,
you know, or a hallmarket pot where Hey, I went
home for the you know, I'm home for the holidays,
and I'm a you know, I'm a veterinarian that takes
care of injured animals. And you know I did this
as a favor because they were doing it in the
(15:23):
office and I found it. I'm related to somebody in
a in a town and I go there and and
you know, I'm related to Lacey Shavert or somebody like that.
I mean, I don't know, I don't want that.
Speaker 5 (15:31):
I don't look at look at you trying to get
Lacey sever in.
Speaker 1 (15:34):
Well, I'm thinking of all the big Hallmark movie eyes,
is Lazy Shabet or Danika mckeller, either one antually just
worked out there?
Speaker 5 (15:40):
Well, no, see, isn't she I'm the one now with
Candace Cameron.
Speaker 1 (15:43):
Isn't that where?
Speaker 5 (15:44):
No, m I forget they had a realignment of the Sanders.
Speaker 1 (15:49):
Cameron left, and I think that now Lazy Shabbier and
Danik and McKellar are are even are even working more.
Speaker 4 (15:55):
I think okay, and Lrie Laughlin's getting back into the
mix because this is worn off a little bit leaf.
Speaker 3 (16:00):
So is it a rowing movie?
Speaker 1 (16:02):
Joining us? Stop joining us? Now on the hotline, a
man who's going, what the hell show am I coming
on right now? You can follow him on Twitter. Longtime
friend of the show at Mark g Underscore Medina. It
is Mark Medina, NBA Insider, Fox Sports Radio, NBA Insider
covering the NBA Playoffs, Mark, what's happening, man? How are you?
Speaker 6 (16:26):
I'm doing well. I hope you're doing alright. Even with
the next Remember, they did what they set out to do,
which was steel home court. Did not jump off the
ledge that you'll be fined.
Speaker 1 (16:36):
Dude, I've been saying it for the last twenty four hour. Fine,
we're going up three to one, We're gonna go back
to Mirror. We're gonna boat race the Cavaliers and go
back home and go back to Cleveland with a chance
to close out the series.
Speaker 6 (16:47):
Nick, We're going to dominate Game three so much that
Donovan Mitchell is going to be pulling his hair out, thinking, Man,
why couldn't I have played at MSG the rest of
my career?
Speaker 1 (16:57):
Here?
Speaker 6 (16:57):
What a lost opportunity.
Speaker 1 (16:59):
Yeah, and Timaeau is going to leave the starters in
when they're up or down twenty in the last two
minutes when they could potentially get hurt. Yeah, it's gonna
be awesome.
Speaker 6 (17:07):
Hey, every minute's precious in the NBA. He exact that
everyone literally competes for all forty eight and he'll force
them to otherwise.
Speaker 1 (17:16):
All right, well, hey, well let's kick things off tonight.
Look I look at this. This is a huge missed opportunity.
This is a huge fall on your face moment for
the Lakers. I get the Grizzlies are good without John Morant.
We've seen them play well without jaff from large stretches
regular season, nearly pulled the upset in the playoffs without
him a year ago. But this is a Lakers team
that just showed up tonight and you got nothing out
(17:38):
of Ad and nothing out of di'angelo Russell, and not
all game twos are created equal. I thought this was
a huge mischance for the Lakers. Now, I feel like
the series has swung back to the Grizzlies now because
John Morant will come back and it's going to be
a completely different animal. Now.
Speaker 6 (17:52):
Yeah, I mean, look, I think the Lakers are still
in control because they have home core. But I agree
with the larger point that missed opportunity. I don't care
what the Grizzlies are ranked number two. You know, they
and some of the other teams have been ranked higher
in the league partly because the Lakers and other teams
had injured players for a lot of the season. So
the Lakers theoretically are better and I'm with you, I
(18:12):
don't care about the oh they went six and three
when Jah was suspended because of his Instagram live shenanigans
that went twenty and five last season during injuries. The
reality is the Lakers on taper are supposed to be
a lot more experienced, a lot more seasons. We thought
this was finally Anthony Davis, you know, turning a corner
with not just his health but his aggressiveness level. He
(18:33):
laid an egg D'Angel Russell We're talking about, Hey, he's
made all these great changes of the Lakers offense because
Russell Westbrook isn't there, but he was a no show.
And the reality is, maybe they can get away with
this in the first round because frankly, the Grizzlies are
number two, but they talk a lot, they're overachieving. They
still need to grow up. But what about when they
(18:54):
get deeper into the playoffs. This stuff's just not gonna fly. So, yeah,
missed opportunity all the way around, and maybe at some
point we'll catch up to them.
Speaker 4 (19:02):
Well, when Austin Reeves and Ruey Hatchamora I have to
carry you for large stretches of games night after night,
it gets an eyebrow raising as well. As Lebron played
down the stretch that first half, he was in no show.
Speaker 6 (19:16):
Yeah, I mean, look, I think with Lebron James, it's
everything starts with him as far as his health and effectiveness.
But as long as he's having an impact on the game,
that's all that really matters. Like if Anthony Davis is
leading the team in scoring, even if Ruy Hachamore Austin
Reeves are leading league in scoring, leading the team in scoring,
it's fine. Lebron still has so many other skills, but
(19:38):
he can't shoot one of eight from three, for example,
or looks so fatigued. It was just very surprising this
team overall had such a benefited schedule here where they
played Sunday, they didn't travel anywhere or in the same city,
and playing three days later, Yet they came out the
gates as if they're on a second night of a
back to back four game in five nights. Just very
(20:01):
odd and head scratching, to say the least.
Speaker 1 (20:04):
All right, now, from the Lakers. Let's go to the
Bucks night is they just crush Miami one thirty eight,
one twenty two. And this is kind of a backhanded
compliment here, because we don't the Bucks don't get the
attention because they're kind of boring. Giannis goes out and
he dominates. There's other bigger headlines out there. But you
see how well they played without Yannis. This is a
(20:24):
team that without him would probably finish fourth or fifth
in the East and maybe third or fourth in the West.
So I look at this and I go, man, Milwaukee,
they're deep. We don't talk about him enough. And then
I go, but man, the team is as good without you.
How have they not won the last three or four
titles with Yannis? So maybe you could say there they
underachieved with Giannis because of this. You see where I'm
going with this market is here?
Speaker 6 (20:44):
Yeah, well look at this. The Milwaukee Bucks had to
do a similar thing earlier this season when Chris Milton
was out of the Lion for an extended period of time.
And you know, it's a topic I talked with Drew
Holliday earlier in the season, and basically he put it
down to when one of the big three is injured,
the other two step up, and so I think in
this case, Middleton and Holiday raise their play without Giannis.
(21:07):
But I think the underrated part about the Bucks team
is they just have a lot of continuity, a lot
of depth. And you know, I was talking with an
opposing team's executive the other day, just picking his brain
on different NBA topics. So I'm prepared to bring some insight,
you know, for you guys for example now saying hey,
like Bucks Celtics, like, who do you got? And he
(21:29):
was saying, you know what, I would choose Milwaukee because
I feel like they have a lot more depth that
could guard the other team's best players as opposed to
the other way around here. And so this was specifically
looking at Boston Milwaukee. You know, the executive was saying, hey,
I think that they have more answers in slowing down
Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown than the Celtics would do
(21:53):
with slowing down Janni's true Holiday, Chris Milton. But that
whole idea can apply to everyone else here too, And
look the Miami Heat. They play really well offensively, but
I think it's more of the larger part of their chemistry,
how do they make things work, how do they work
well as a team. And I think that the underrated
aspect of that is that they really get along and
(22:13):
they're familiar with each other. And you know, talent, Trump's all,
but those other intangible things can always make a difference
in the playoff series.
Speaker 5 (22:21):
All right, now, let's go.
Speaker 4 (22:22):
We talked about the games tonight, Brooks trying to bait
Lebron James. Well, we had the incident between the Kings
and the Warriors. Draymond's now suspended, the stomp, the ankle grab,
the agitator role that Draymond loves so much. Did they
get it right? Is it history that had to put
it over the top, or was the incident itself enough?
Speaker 6 (22:43):
Mark, Look, don't get a twisted I'm not talking about
Draymond Green, William mar or a political prisoner or a victim.
You know, there's no innocent parties here. But the NBA
made the wrong decision suspending Draymond Green. Here's why they
already gave him a flagrant foul too. That's an automatic
and a key playoff game that arguably was a deciding
(23:04):
factor in the outcome. It was late in the fourth
quarter close game, Warriors already lose that game. You also
have to keep in mind the accumulation total when you
get flagrant fouls. If he gets two more, he's going
to be automatically suspended for another game anyway. So he
already served a punishment for his actions. He could serve
a future punishment if he doesn't change his behavior. And
(23:26):
then as far as the other things go, you know,
him tawning fans, et cetera, et cetera. One, You know,
I think that's just part of sports. You know, athletes
kind of embracing the pro wrestling persona number one. Number two,
it's not like there was anything that was dangerous. It's
not like he was going into the stands or anything.
And number three, if that was inappropriate cross the line.
Adam Silver was a little uncomfortable. They could slap him
(23:49):
with a fine. The fact that they admitted in their
own press release that past behavior influenced this decision is horse.
You know what, They're not supposed to judge pass behavior.
They're supposed to judged the specific incident. So you know, look,
I don't maybe Draymond Green's holding off on the podcast
so he doesn't get in future trouble. But you know what,
(24:09):
just count this as a podcast as me speaking on
his behalf, not because he deserves any sympathy. But if
I'm the judiciary, my evaluation is the NBA misfired on
this court case.
Speaker 1 (24:22):
Now here's my thing, because I went into this a
little bit last night, and there's two big things I
think they contributed to it. Had he just footstomped DeMont
to Sibonis, he gets ejected, he leaves the game, okay,
but the fact he goes and he stands and he
antagonizes the fans, and he takes no responsibility after the
game and kind of puts it and kind of dares
(24:45):
the NBA to suspend it because I got grabbed two
nights th row. Nobody else is calling it. You combine
that with the fact of the optic that if Draymond's
not suspended and Sibonis can't play because he's injured, I
don't think Adam Silver had any choice because of those factors,
not just for the footstop, but how we react acted
after and the optic of some bonus is out for
(25:07):
an injury and Green gets to still play.
Speaker 6 (25:10):
Okay, I understand, but let's break these things down. Okay
with his tawning to the fans. Again, NBA could just
slap them with a fine there that's unacceptable and appropriate, rude,
bad luck, optics, et cetera. As far as the play itself,
I totally understand why Draymond Green did what he did.
Look demonte de bonus. He's trying to twist his ankle.
(25:30):
When you're looking at this a bruder film right of
breaking down frame by frame, there's no literal way that
Draymond could skip across him without stepping on him. And
the third part, severity of the injury. Look, the King
has made it sound like he had to be rush
of the ambulance. Last I checked, he played the rest
of the game completely fine. Number two. You know the
(25:50):
idea of oh well, maybe adrenaline rush kicks into that.
How do you feel when you wear down? The X
rays came out negative that night, came out negative the
following night. I also found it very interesting that they
waited until the NBA released the punishment at midnight to
then say, oh, he's questionable for Game three. But fast
(26:12):
forward to today, he was at practice gaining up shots
like this injury is not severe at all, and so
that's why, again, Raymond's not a victim. There's a lot
of times he's crossed the line. There's a lot of
times that the Warriors have been fed up with Draymond,
not just the NBA, but when we're looking at these
specific things, it needs to be judged on what happened,
(26:32):
not the past, not the future, not the hypothetical. What happened.
And that's why the NBA is fired. And I think
in a weird way, this is very much in line
with how Adam Silver, unfortunately has done things with the NBA,
where it feels like there's a lot more energy devoted
toward disciplinary actions when something looks bad, when there's an
(26:53):
optic standpoint, almost like when they find the Dallas Mavericks
for laying it be known, Hey, we're going to fit
our guys, and you know, saying the quiet part out
loud and that stuff. I think doesn't sit well with
me because I feel like it's very inconsistent and also
think I think it speaks to that the league is
more concerned about the image and the pr backlash than
(27:15):
actually tackling the substance and root of an actual issue.
Speaker 5 (27:19):
Yeah, I would have lost my house.
Speaker 4 (27:20):
I would have bet he would have done nothing since
they had already kicked him out of the game, so
inactivity having been the norm.
Speaker 1 (27:28):
I made it happen. We realize I made it happen
because I was the one that said, Adam Silver, you
have no guts and no spine. You let the players
walk over you. And he says back, I feel I'm proud.
I feel like the proud papa.
Speaker 6 (27:39):
Well, now like Kevin Duranty has got the burner accounts
looking through the phone, he sees Jason's tweet, He's like,
I'll show everyone.
Speaker 4 (27:47):
Speaking of which, Durant and Kawhi Leonard look really fresh
and healthy for their playoff battle after missing a lot
of the regular season.
Speaker 5 (27:55):
Good or bad for the NBA.
Speaker 6 (27:58):
Incredibly great for the obviously. I mean, I love seeing
Kawhi just like rip the pull out of Kevin Durant's hands.
And I think, in all seriousness, it's a real testament
to you know, their work ethic. They're coming off of
really catastrophic injuries. I mean, most notably with Kawhi with
missing all of last season. Durant has had a string
(28:18):
of injuries ever since tearing his achilles. But you know,
I think the fact that they've still been very efficient
when they're on the floor, still playing a star level,
as a testament to their to their skill level, their
work ethic, and it's something that resonates with Kevin Durant.
I was at Sun's practice today and he was really
much talking about that whole idea of why he respects
(28:39):
Kawhi so much because even through these hardships, he was
very disciplined with his work and it's something that Kevin
tries to take pride into that, you know, he just
doesn't want to be this high volume score. He also
wants to be efficient. I think it's saying something that
for all the you know, things going on with his season,
in particular with Brooklyn and Phoenix, some of it injury,
(29:00):
some of it Kyrie related and off the court stuff.
For all the critics of the criticism Katie might get
rightfully so on the off the court stuff and social
media behavior. On the court, he's locked in. He has
been the most efficient this season out of any season
of his sixteen year career, shooting fifty seven percent of
(29:20):
the field. I mean, that's just beyond impressive.
Speaker 1 (29:23):
You can fall on Twitter at Mark g underscore Medina
that said, Mark g underscore Medina NBA Insider here for
as of Fox Sports Radio covering the NBA playoffs, Mark
is always appreciate your time, and hey, we'll call you
back after the Knicks take that three games to one lead.
Speaker 6 (29:38):
I appreciate you. I mean call me back after they
advance of the second round and onward. I mean the
finals are going to go through New York.
Speaker 4 (29:45):
Let it.
Speaker 5 (29:46):
I was going to say, it's been good knowing you, Mark.
We'll talk to you next season. Then, And.
Speaker 1 (29:51):
You remember when I told you before the play nix
Bucks Eastern Conference Finals. Yeah, I mean you you were
there and I said it. I said it, nix Bucks
Here we go.
Speaker 2 (30:00):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 1 (30:07):
Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon live
from the tay Iraq dot Com Studios. And we got
more NBA more, Max Shus are coming up in a
few minutes. Rosin and sweat, that's all it was. Rosin
and sweat. Rosin and sweat equals pine tar. Uh no, no,
technically no, that's how you make pine tar. But that
(30:28):
is not how you make pine t how you know,
maybe in Minecraft that's how you make pine tar.
Speaker 5 (30:34):
But he's like Targamel crafting spells.
Speaker 1 (30:38):
He's a wizard. Apparently, Apparently, Trey Lance could be on
the move. NFL network insider Ian Rappaport said today that
the forty nine ers have been fielding phone calls from
multiple teams about trading for Trey Lance.
Speaker 5 (30:58):
Again, takes from last December.
Speaker 1 (31:01):
I can be an NFL insider. What did we tell
you over a month and a half ago when they
signed Sam Darnald, Trey Lance became available because if Brock
Perdy is hurt and you don't know when he's gonna
come back, But all right, Perdy, Mike, he's gonna get healthy,
come back, Okay, Trey Lance is gonna be your starter. Okay,
So Lance is your starter. You have some kind of
(31:25):
backup ready, But then when Perdy is ready, there's no
place for that third guy. Why do you go get
Sam Darnald, who is a high end backup because he's
someone who started the NFL for a while and now
he's at that position in his career where he's a
high end backup. Why do you go get Sam Donald
unless you want to trade Trey Lance. We told you
call John Lynch and you can get Trey Lance. And
(31:46):
now apparently teams are listening. Hey, I'm gonna I'm gonna
call the forty nine ers. We're gonna get trailer Tonna.
Here's what happened. Told you in March this was available,
you could go get Trey Lance, and now well this
is what They're not gonna keep them and they're not someone.
But this tells you. The fact that they're fielding calls
(32:07):
about him, and the fact that this story gets out
tells me that, yeah, they want to move Trey Lance.
They're confident that brock Purty can come back and play
sooner rather than later. If they have to go with
Donald for a little bit of time until brock Purty
is ready. Okay, Purty's got a pretty good command of
the offense. If he comes back late in the process
(32:27):
during during the summer, that's fine. If we need Donald
for a little bit weekend. So yeah, you can get
to you you want Trey Lance, you call the forty
nine ers, you can get him again. I can be
an NFL insider. Yeah, this is one that was obvious.
What was I yelling the whole time. Some cost, some cost,
you don't care what.
Speaker 4 (32:46):
It costs you back in the day for the draft
picks and the investment to bring in Trey Lance. That's
a lifetime ago in NFL years at this point, chronicling
how long it's been since he's played a full season.
And it doesn't mean you don't still like the potential
what the player could be. It means you don't have
the opportunity to wait. And you've got a squad that's
(33:06):
got a lot of guys that are gonna come up
on their next contracts here in short order, so there's
no time to wait and to see if that's going
to prove itself correctly. Brock Purdy played well. Sam Darnold
finished the season very well in Carolina. Say what you
will about him, and whether he's gotten the stink of
(33:27):
the former Jets organization off him or not, that remains
to be seen. But he's still a young guy, and
that bringing him into that system with those weapons, you
gotta feel like, you know what you could work out something.
He's reunited with Christian McCaffrey.
Speaker 1 (33:42):
It's all good.
Speaker 4 (33:43):
You go and you can work that out. So with
that receiving corps and wrestlers, slash tight end George Kittle,
all things are good. Trey Lance becomes a guy who
if you're not going full in on the sweepstakes for
Lamar Jackson or for Air and Rogers, you know he's
still a packer, or you're you're not overly excited over
(34:04):
one of these quarterbacks in this draft. You got a
guy that's still young and green, and the opportunity to
go and get him at a lower cost and can
make that deal is gotta be something that's pretty attractive
to multiple teams down the board.
Speaker 1 (34:19):
I'm telling you, man, you could not. Everybody is going
to get a quarterback. And he's a curiosity as long
as you treat him as such. Right, he can't be
so allwhere he's gonna come in to be a superstar. No, no,
what he is. The guy's barely played football for like
four years right now. You know someone went to college
and is graduating, going. I didn't see Trey Lance play
a game. Let me just think I'm saw him.
Speaker 5 (34:38):
Play two games. That's it. It's been that long since
it was on TV opening week.
Speaker 1 (34:43):
So yeah, but as long as you're saying, hey, he's
a curiosity and we can get him and maybe we
turn him into something. Yeah, go out and get him.
But more than that, it's gonna be different. But don't
make no mistake. You can go get him. Jason Smith,
NFL Insider. We told you a month ago. It is there.
Speaker 5 (35:00):
Dollars can use them.
Speaker 1 (35:01):
Coming up next, Jets, frozen sweat, Surezer, keep it, Fox
Stop
