(00:55):
the top of your screen, so lock it in. Rip
off the knob, Rip, Rip the knob off.
Speaker 4 (01:01):
Geez we come on, man, We've done this how many times?
I have creative license?
Speaker 3 (01:07):
No, it's but it doesn't say it's ripped the knob
and rip off the knob of the radio of the
like it's skip.
Speaker 4 (01:14):
It's implied you need rip the knob off.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
You need more practice, not a game. Not a game,
not a game, you need more practice. We're gonna talk
about practice practice.
Speaker 4 (01:24):
It's easy.
Speaker 3 (01:25):
Rip the knob off. It's not that hard man. Rip
the knob off and do what.
Speaker 4 (01:28):
I want to.
Speaker 3 (01:29):
Knock it in and rip the knob off. In fact,
I don't know why don't have creative licens because no
one paid me, because I don't think rip off the
knob is actually proper English. I think rip the knob
off you're ripping What are you ripping off the knob?
Speaker 4 (01:43):
You're not.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
You don't rip off the knob. It's because you're saying, like,
are you ripping off the novel? Like the knob is
a gangster? Hey, ripping off the knob. Tonight, we're gonna
go get all that gold, all those Kruger hands. We're
gonna show up somewhere with it. They're getting your knob
ripped off. That's gonna hurt.
Speaker 4 (01:56):
It's not ten o'clock yet, from that would be problematic.
We're no question, we're not in safe harbor yet we
can I'm nick if you can hear the screens.
Speaker 3 (02:06):
The Thunder lead the Tea Wolves right now three and
a half to go, one oh one eighty six. They
have sprinted out here in the fourth quarter. It's been
a big second half for Shay Gilders Alexander He's got
thirty one. Meanwhile, his supporting cast having big nights as well.
Chet's got fifteen and seven, You got seventeen and seven
from Williams. Hartenstein's got twelve and five.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
It has been a typical Oklahoma City night. Will break
this down in detail coming up in about fifteen minutes.
Speaker 4 (02:34):
Again, still three and a half left to go.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
You never know, but it looks like the Thunder are
gonna be up one game to nine.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
I think I do.
Speaker 3 (02:41):
But we have to talk about hustle because now it's
become a thing with the Wan Soto not hustling for
the Mets. That now the Mets have had to figure
out after reports the last couple of days of surface
about the level of Juan Soto's happiness and the level
of his hustle. So tonight the Mets lose two nothing again,
dead from the neck up. The Mets can't hit right.
(03:02):
We stink, We're terrible, but firing anybody yet? The one no,
because we're.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
Ten games over five hundred, seat of ten games under
five hundred, so things are not that.
Speaker 4 (03:09):
It's just fourteen runs in eight games. No one's hitting.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
Like if three guys were hitting, it'd be fine, but
eight guys aren't hitting, So what are you gonna do?
But Sodo's come under fire coming off of the series
with the Yankees in which they were back to back
games in which and the Yankees and now the Red
Sox in which there are back to back games which
Sodo did not hustle out of the box where he
could have beat out a grounder or potentially gotten a
double on a ball off the wall at Fenway became
(03:33):
a story last night, and Michael Kay, played by play
man for the Yankees, who has a radio show in
New York, decided to come out with a report that really.
Speaker 4 (03:41):
Doesn't have any sources in it.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
And this is what really piss me off about this,
in that he said he went to the ballpark the
last day of the Yankees Mets, got there eight o'clock
in the morning, wanted to talk to you, dig into
Sodo and how things are going and he found out
that soo. He says, Sodo is not happy. He wanted
to be a Yankee, but the reason he's a Met
is because his family liked the Mets more and that's
why he signed to make his family happy. The fact
(04:06):
that Michael Kay, Yankee play by play man, says this, Okay,
first of all, you're the one not happy. You're the
one that's obsessed with the Mets. Again, what if I
told you Yankee fans in the media are obsessed with
the Mets. They're obsessed with us.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
They're obsessed with suddenly winning the met beating the Mets
two out of three last week, and is their World
Series because it's all been oh, look and Sodo left
us and weird, we're better off without Sodo. And now
Michael k comes up with this report. And this is
what pisses me off, is that when he said this,
he said Soto's unhappy, He's glumm he wanted to be
with the Yankees. He saw the three sellouts at Yankee Stadium,
and I'm like, the Mets have sold out a bunch
(04:39):
of games. They're in fifth in the league in attendance.
It's not like no one's coming to the games. But
the fact that Michael Ka had to say and this
is what I've heard the Mets, and this will be denied.
And then he said it three times. He had all
of his points made. He said, this will be denied,
but this is what it but this will be denied.
I'm like, dude, that's so irresponsible. I can't even tell
you he's coming on the air as a note of authority,
(05:03):
Like I'm an insider. I talk to people and this
is what I'm getting. I'm the play by play man
of the Yankees. And what insider says, Hey, I'm reporting this,
it'll be denied. Adam Schefter, Jay Glazer, Ian Rappaport, don't
come out and say, hey, so and so is on.
You know, Kirk Cousins is really unhappy and wants off
of the Falcons. Now he'll deny this, and the Falcons
will deny it. But I've talked to people and Cousins
(05:25):
is not happy. He doesn't he's not happy with how
the and I'm just using as an example. Cousins is
not happy how the Falcons dealt with him when when
they signed him, wasn't happy they took Michael pennockx ju
and your again.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
They'll deny this, This will be denied. But this is
what he wants. He wants out, he wants a trade
he doesn't want He's not happy being the backup, even
though he said he's being the backup again.
Speaker 4 (05:43):
They'll deny this, Like, what kind of report are you saying?
Speaker 3 (05:46):
Like?
Speaker 1 (05:46):
Can I just say anything I want to? If I
can just say, Oh, they'll deny this. Hey, Michael Kay,
the Yankees want to fire you as play by play man. Oh,
they'll deny it, but they want to fire you know,
people I talk to. Like, that's so irresponsible to say
stuff like that. Yet he throws it out there because again,
the Yankees are obsessed with the Mets, the Mets of
the new benchmark. They're still so bitter that Sodo chose
the Mets over the Yankees. And maybe Sodo is unhappy.
(06:08):
But I'm gonna throw this out there because just maybe,
and I know it sound crazy, but maybe he's unhappy
because he ain't hitting and he's not doing interviews on
Sunday Night Baseball because I'm not hitting, I'm not playing well,
and I really want to find my way out of
this funk. I'm not happy because I'm not hitting, and
any player that is a star player is not happy
when they're not hitting. You can be happy for a
(06:28):
team success, but when you're not hitting, you're upset. And
Sodo probably is upset because he's not hitting. But to
say you're miserable, it's been two months, you've been given
everything by the Mets, your team's in first place or
close to first place. He've been in first place up
until the last couple of days. I don't see how
you can suddenly be miserable in that situation. Like if
the Mets were the Rockies and they were eight and
(06:50):
thirty nine and it was he's not fitting in and
not knowing to then I understand, Okay, maybe I made
a bad mistake, but things have gone pretty well. And
now here's this report about and no hust and he's
not hustling on plays, and now Carlos Mendoza had to
talk to him about it. I mean again, I'm throwing
it out there. Maybe he's frustrated because he's not hitty,
because Carlos Mendoza says, potentially the not hustling was about
(07:11):
his frustration, and you know, really there's no excuse for it.
But of course you're gonna deal with kid gloves on
this because it's something that Hey, we don't want to
turn it into a big thing. He's got a fifteen
year contract with us, but something needs to be set.
So here's this story, and it's really hot right now.
But it's been the Yankees, and the Yankees media has
been really irresponsible with it. I don't doubt that he's
(07:33):
that he's not happy, but likely he's not happy because
he's not contributing. I think the hustle thing has been
something that's happened in the past, but now there's more
scrutiny on it. All that to say, I think in
a month or in six weeks, we're gonna say, h
Remember when that story was out there that Soda was
unhappy and wanted to be a Yankee?
Speaker 4 (07:52):
Remember that. That seems like it was three years ago,
just like the the e Bay show. Hey story, Wow,
that's gonna be a big deal.
Speaker 1 (07:58):
In a month after that story broke, we never talked
about it like SODA's gonna hit. Everything's gonna be fine.
It's a big story right now. And I get why
they had to talk Tom about hustling, because you can't
not hustle in New York. That's not gonna work. I
understand it. But wow, this really seems like here's the
Yankees trying to here's Yankees media, Yankee fans trying to.
Speaker 4 (08:16):
Just we we're obsessed.
Speaker 1 (08:17):
We're throwing this out there. And when this is something
that's gonna be taken care of and in a month,
we're gonna forget that this is a story.
Speaker 3 (08:24):
Well, I mean, I will say this in a month's time,
whatever's going on with Want Soda, I'm still gonna have
more more questions on epay and show Hey than I.
Speaker 4 (08:33):
Ever I ever, But well, we look at that, right.
Speaker 3 (08:38):
Bob Klappish of New Jersey dot Com longtime reporter said, also,
you know there was a report of Mets hierarchy quote
concerned about SODA's lack.
Speaker 4 (08:47):
Of enthusiasm for his new team.
Speaker 3 (08:49):
To your point, could just be very much the I'm
in my head because I'm having a rough go at
the plate. Thought it would be an easier transition. Here's
the lineup all of those things, right you about Well,
it's a lot easier when you've got air and judge
hitting with you and so on and so forth. But
this is also where we get into the the problems, right,
(09:09):
we get some great information and stuff that gets ferreted
out and eventually we find out truths from anonymous sources.
Speaker 4 (09:19):
But we also have this.
Speaker 3 (09:20):
Where he may have talked to several people in the
organization that are concerned this. Whether it's Clappish or Michael
K for that matter, the constant they're gonna deny it.
They're gonna not Well, he's in New York, so he's
got to see all these folks and they're gonna come
at him and maybe they issue a public denial of
it all. But as soon as you get into the
you know, anonymous sources. I've talked to people. I mean,
(09:44):
I walk down the street, I talked to people. I've
talked to a lot of people about the Dodgers every day.
Am I gonna cite them on air?
Speaker 5 (09:51):
Now?
Speaker 4 (09:52):
I'm gonna say some Yahoo fan that I talked to
my I'm gonna cite them as a source because they're
watching every inning of the Dodgers and maybe Mike K
is getting into a little of that. I don't know.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
I don't want to cast dispersions on on the man.
Uh you get that he got the code read from
the Yankee hierarchy to go and bash one. So no, Well,
because here's the here's the other part about Michael Carey.
This is what pisses me off is that for the
entire time leading up to this, when Soda was a
free agent, where is he gonna go? Michael ka and
(10:22):
New York talked about how, oh, he's gonna go to
the team that offers him the most most money. Now
he obviously knows stuff about this, being the Yankee play
by playguard, you're a source, right, you're a source, oh,
Yankee play by pay Oh, whoever offers the most money,
which honestly is something that any of us could have
said of courts and whoever are Scott Boris is not
taking one dime less than whatever the most money's Boris
and it's not a big street. It's gonna take the most.
(10:45):
He's gonna take the most money. So I take for
months and months and months. Whoever gives them the most money,
that's where he's gonna go. But he doesn't choose the Yankees.
And so now it's how do we make something up
or how do we make us ourselves look good?
Speaker 4 (10:59):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (10:59):
Oh, his family want him to go to the Mets. Really,
so Wan Soto, who's got to be a Met for
fifteen years. He would have gotten everything he wanted from
the Yankees, right, what everything? Would have got seven hundred and.
Speaker 1 (11:08):
Twenty million dollars in the Yankees, right, they would have
been able to buy this week, would have gotten everything
he wanted from the Yankees.
Speaker 3 (11:13):
Chose the Mets because his family said, choose the Mets. Really, really,
that that's what happened. A guy that's done everything he
could to get to this free agent point, to sign
this contract, he's gonna list. His family's gonna say, oh,
for next to thirty five million, go to the Mets, right, really?
Speaker 4 (11:26):
Really? But how it changed from most money, most money?
Speaker 1 (11:29):
Oh, we're not the team at offer the most money
because you know they thought the Yankees are going to
offer the most money. Because we're not letting Sodo go
to the Mets. I don't care what Steve Cohen offers.
We're not letting him go. Oh we let him go?
Oh so now, oh yeah, his family made him go.
His family made him do away. Like I feel like
you're making up reasons now because again you're obsessed with
the Mets because for the first time a superstar player
(11:50):
that you had on your team that was in with
you said Nope, I'm not going to you. And not
only that, I'm going across town to the little brother
and they can get over it. And they just can't
get over this is such, this is this is so
irresponsible for micro and really for a play by play
guy to say, for a guy who does a radio
show in New York where Mets fans listen to, right,
(12:12):
I mean, it's a whole thing for him to come
on and give that report and say it'll be denied.
Like wow, man, you've just given carte blanche to basically
everybody the need to say whatever they want to. As
long as I say it, Dad, it'll be denied. Don't
worry about it. Don't worry about Harmon's Harmon's not wearing pants.
I mean, he'll deny it, but he's not wearing pants.
Speaker 3 (12:28):
But we've been doing this for years, right, I joked
openly on air for all sorts of guys who trumpet journalism.
You threw that out as soon as you got behind
a microphone and sports talk radio and started spouting off
nonsense takes about sports you don't watch or have no
care about.
Speaker 4 (12:45):
Whatsoever.
Speaker 3 (12:45):
What have we been watching the last couple of days
about Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese? It's nonsense and who
can out do each other? And we go to all
of these things in New York. I mean there's a
murderer's row of guys, like, I'm just gonna throw this out.
I don't like the player, the coach or how this
is handled. Look at all the stuff with the Caleb
Williams story. I mean it was who's got the biggest
(13:08):
flamethrower and when they got in front of a microphone
to try to go at it, and no logic, no discernments,
just how could I be louder and more bombastic? And
that's been the industry for a long time. It's a
lot of hand ringing. You try to but it's this,
This is more not a lout of my bastic as
it has. Here's what I heard, but it'll be denied. Okay,
(13:29):
So either you heard it and it's true, or or
it'll be denied.
Speaker 4 (13:32):
Mean, like, what what do you mean by well no?
But I mean he may have heard it.
Speaker 3 (13:35):
Like that's the point though, It's like, but then it's
but then it's the truth, right, But then if if, if.
Speaker 4 (13:39):
You heard it, But if it's true, I stand by I.
Speaker 1 (13:41):
Talk I stand by my sources, and I stand by
who I talk to. You don't say it. Nobody says,
but they'll deny it. Nobody says that.
Speaker 3 (13:49):
Well, but he decided to go the extra term, saying,
all right, I've talked to these folks.
Speaker 4 (13:52):
But did he But I don't know. Well, maybe he is.
But that's the thing, right, we don't know.
Speaker 3 (13:57):
But what he's saying is if you go tako by
the Mets behind closed doors, they're gonna deny it, and
they're gonna say he's happy as can be and he's
playing Hungry Hunger Hippos with the guys and and playing
pool and eating Cheetos while they're sitting around watching reruns
of an eighties sitcom.
Speaker 5 (14:15):
You know how he can afford to say this with
no uh repercussions? How because it came from the high
Yankee brass up. That's exactly where it came from.
Speaker 1 (14:26):
All right, I like the way you think, don't look
at him.
Speaker 4 (14:30):
Hell.
Speaker 5 (14:32):
But hurt is Michael keays, those guys up top are
way more.
Speaker 4 (14:35):
But what do I need to say?
Speaker 3 (14:36):
Hell no, but it's it's so it's so it's so responsible. Man,
it's so petty. But again, the Yankees are obsessed with us. Okay,
they're obsessed with their ex They're so obsessed exit.
Speaker 4 (14:52):
How about a Fresco exit swollen dome.
Speaker 1 (14:54):

Speaker 4 (15:47):
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (15:48):
The Jason Smith Show with My best friend Mike Harmon, Yeah,
Live from the Fox Sports Radio studios where we just
watched the Thunder just pull away from the Timberwolves in
the second half of this game. I'm one four team
to eighty eight the final score. T Wolves led the
entire first half out of forty eight to forty four
lead at the break. However, in the third quarter, Thunder
(16:09):
flipped the script, turned a four point deficit into a
ten point lead, and basically the game was over from
there on out. Te Wolves never threatened in the fourth.
So it's a one game to non lead for Oklahoma
City over Minnesota. Now this is where I get to play.
I hate to say I told you so, but last
night when we picked this series, right, you picked the
Thunder from the beginning. You picked the t Waves from
(16:30):
the beginning the playoffs. You're sticking with them. I picked
the Thunder beginning of the playoffs. I'm sticking with them.
The reason I went with is two reasons. One was
I like the Thunders defense a little bit more clearly
we saw that on display tonight. But mainly I said,
I have more confidence that we're gonna get a consistently
great series from Shay Gildess Alexander. Then you're gonna get
(16:51):
a consistently great series out of Van Edwards.
Speaker 4 (16:53):
Right.
Speaker 1 (16:53):
It just even when SGA starts out slowly, started out
really slow tonight, Right, he was terribly started two of
eight before. But guess what Tuite finishes with thirty one
and nine assists and five rebounds when they needed him
in the second half, he was terrific.
Speaker 4 (17:09):
Right, So even a.
Speaker 3 (17:10):
Bad start he turned into a great finish. Right, You
will forget about that bad start. He still finds a
way to play great even when the first half of
the game doesn't go his way. I know we're gonna
get a great, consistent series out of SGA, but with
Ann Edwards, I'm not. There's a couple of times a
series where he has games where he needs to be more,
(17:32):
whether it's more leadership, more shots, more confidence, he needs
to be a little more. He blends in a little
too much sometimes and a couple of times in a
series is all it takes for you to go home. Now,
it's happened a couple of times, but they've been the
better team overall. They were peaking coming into the playoffs.
But this is where it comes down into bites you
in the ass because you're playing the best team in
(17:54):
the playoffs that you have faced so far, the Thunder
have been far and away better that they've been the
best team in the playoffs so far in general. Thing right,
even going back to last series, even though it ends
up getting stretched out to seven games, you had very
long stretches like, Wow, they're dominating, right, They're just absolutely
taking the nuggets up and down the court, bailer to post,
(18:14):
and then you'd have a stretch where suddenly nothing went
right and we've got ourselves games and you have the
dramatic finishes that we saw for a couple of the
W's with Aaron Gordon and the chaos that ensued. But
you watched it here. It's ball hawking and early on
you're not relying on the three point shot. You're being
aggressive attacking the rim, and we saw that that was
(18:37):
the constant. Right, you had a lot of the Timberwolves
possessions and a lot of empty possessions.
Speaker 4 (18:42):
First quarter should.
Speaker 3 (18:43):
Have been a blowout, big lead for the Tea Wolves,
but they had seven turnovers. Right, the attacking style of
the Thunder defense, they fill the passing lanes, long arms,
keep at it and aggressive, and then you start getting
into some of those questions of you know, early whistles
affecting things. Gobert was called for two falls pretty fast.
(19:05):
The second one was just a dumb reach in and
push what he didn't need to concede that you missed
the layup and move on, which forces you to the bench,
and we had to start seeing a deeper rotation. But
all of that to say, you know your point about SGA.
He stayed aggressive two of thirteen. But he lived at
the fall line and continued to live at the fall
(19:26):
line as the night wore on, and you saw no
answers outside of the early heroics from Julius Randall you
couldn't buy a bucket from the outside and.
Speaker 1 (19:35):
Edwards five points in the third quarter when a four
point lead, went to a four point lead, went to
a ten point deposit, zero points in the fourth zero
zero zero. When his team needed him, when he needed
to be more, he disappeared. Can you sing Randy van
Warmer for thy?
Speaker 3 (19:49):
Just when I needed you most? Five out of thirteen,
he took thirteen shots tonight. He took one shot in
the fourth quarter. He took thirteen shots. One when you're
down ten going to the fourth quarter, one he can't
take over with the consistency that SGA and other players
take over. Right, he can't take over like SGA does.
He can't take over like Jalen Brunson. He has moments
(20:11):
and he has games where wow, he's the best player
on the floor. He does and he is feeling it.
But the thing is is he's got to have it.
When you're not feeling it, you still got to find
a way. Right, you're the best player on the team.
If you're not feeling I'm sorry, you got to find
a way. Whether it is getting to the free throw line,
whether it's hey, I'm not gonna take threes, right, it's
not my night from three, whatever it's going to be,
(20:32):
you have to find a way. And and Edwards just
has games where he just doesn't try to do that.
And this is a game where down by ten going
to fourth, ye, Julius Trail did all he could. He
scored twenty points in the first f he got you
up by four, you had five threes. That's not gonna continue.
Speaker 4 (20:47):
And and yet.
Speaker 1 (20:48):
He became too much, too much of a wallflower, right,
I mean, this is this is why Ann Edwards. Everyone
wants to a crown of always a next Michael Jordan. No,
he has stretches where he is terrific. He has games
where he's unbelie but it's not consistent enough, and he
needs to be more consistent. And this is why I
picked the Thunder because I said, you're gonna get a
more consistently great series from SGA than Ann Edwards.
Speaker 3 (21:09):
This has come up in the playoffs before. Remember it
was just ten days ago in the last series where
the tea walls were a little upset and Chris Finch
was upset with the effort he got from Ed Edwards
in an early log. So remember here, Oh you're not
hustling on that grounder. This was Chris Finch about a
week and a half ago, early on in the Nuggets series,
say hey, I need a little bit more out of you.
Speaker 6 (21:30):
What is there to talk about? I mean, you're they're
they're the leader of the team, and you got to
come out and set the tone. You know in all
ways that that happens. And if it's if your SHOT's
not going like you, you still have to carry the energy,
you know. So I don't think there's if I got
to talk to guys about having the right energy coming
into opening around game opening the second round game. Then
(21:54):
you know we're not you know we're not on the
same page.
Speaker 3 (21:56):
So I mean that's that was from ten days days ago,
and that's what you say tonight. Setting the tone being
a leader, being the guy to say we're gonna win
on my shoulders. Like he doesn't do that with the consistency.
Everybody knows it's his team. Jillius Randall's not going to
get upset. Key Ride Goobert is not going to get
upset if this happens. Right, it's your team. Hey, you
(22:17):
gotta be the guy to do it. Your best player.
If you're gonna win in the playoffs for anything, your
best player needs to be your best player.
Speaker 4 (22:24):
Well, it's like we talked about when the Warriors went down.
Speaker 3 (22:27):
There was no fight out of Jimmy Butler, Right, a
guy that you were expecting playoff Jimmy didn't appear, and
he's leaving games with eight shots, ten shots. No, he's
supposed to be the guy with Steph Curry's sideline that
he's going to pick it up with. Anthony Edwards curious
here do we get any update because he did have
the ankle issue earlier in this game, but he played
(22:49):
thirty seven minutes, so you can only, you know, put
a small asterisk next to anything as we try to
await anything there. But he's what two of five and
the third quarter and then zero for one in the fourth,
still logging thirty seven minutes you had for his shots
of the night, he's five of thirteen. Julius Randall goes
(23:09):
nine to thirteen. Most of that damage done in that
first quarter, and then Devincenzo was three or fourteen. His
jump shot was absolutely broken because he had a lot
of wide open looks.
Speaker 4 (23:20):
Because that's the other part of this. Will you shoot
his poorly? I don't know.
Speaker 3 (23:24):
You've got guys closing out and attacking, and I get
that they shot thirty four point nine percent from the
field and a lot of those shots wide open looks.
So will it go the other way and you get
some normalization maybe. But the Anthony Edwards thing you can't
solve no like that is that is the biggest enigma
(23:44):
in sports right now is to game the game, which
type of effort you're going to get. Your best player
has to find a way to affect the game even
when it's not his night, and it's not that if Ann.
Speaker 4 (23:59):
Edwards was out of twenty four. I would say, you
know what go down as night?
Speaker 1 (24:04):
If Dante DiVincenzo is five to twenty four, it's dude,
you need to shoot last. Come on, but here's your
best player.
Speaker 4 (24:09):
Right.
Speaker 3 (24:09):
It's almost like when when I look at a night
like this from Edwards and see how passive he was
and not sending tone doing all of this, like there's
not being able to affect the game, and there's basically
holding back from trying to affect the game. When you're
down ten going to the fourth quarter, this is where
Ann Edwards has to say, you know what this is?
Speaker 4 (24:27):
Now?
Speaker 3 (24:28):
I got this, I got this. Now I'm gonna bring
us back. It was because this game was there for them, right.
You can only give away you know, so many games
in a series. Really at this point you can't give
away any But this game was there for Minnesota because
a four point lead at halftime and An Edwards hadn't
played his best basketball, So okay, it's there for you.
Speaker 4 (24:46):
It's and then instead in the in the second half.
Speaker 3 (24:49):
Five points like it was it was a gift and
and I'm only going to take a handful of shots. Well,
what we talk about first half? You had the big
stats from Julius Randall. I think Steve had the stat
The rest of the t Wolves were a combined nine
of thirty five. And then it got worse. Yes, it
got worse, seventy to forty. You're outscored in the second half,
(25:09):
an eighteen point third quarter, and then an absolute disappearing
act from Edwards in the fourth as you just saw
passing lanes filled, great work up and down the court
by that Thunder defense. Seventeen turnovers doesn't seem like that's enough.
I think they stopped counting at some point in this game.
You'ven had twelve offensive boards for the Timberwolves, but did
(25:34):
not get the putbacks, did not get those those finishes
that you expected for the Thunder. They end up shooting
fifty percent from the field for the night, a judicious
and efficient eleven of twenty one from three point range.
Speaker 4 (25:50):
Way too passive.
Speaker 1 (25:51):
You're just passive at that point, and you're gonna look
back at this series when the Thunder win and look
in the Thunder this is why it's such a big deal,
because eating them four times, I mean, I don't know, man,
I mean, I'll tell you this. If the Knicks get
by the Pacers, which are we gonna sweep him? But
if the Knicks get by the Pacers, is well, I'm
just saying because I want to, because I'm gonna, you know,
think about it. Can you beat him four times? I
mean maybe you get like you find a way the
(26:13):
matchups work for you, but you can't give away games.
And and this was we're up by four at halftime
in game one, and no matter.
Speaker 3 (26:20):
Where you are, things are getting real serious now. So
maybe just maybe, hey, we're up four, this is a
game we can steal and steal home court advantage back,
and not not with what we saw in the second
half there that was that was a business was the team.
We'll saying, Hey, we were happy to be up four
at halftime, and now we're going, you know, we're down
one's in yeah, and to pull it back, right, we
(26:42):
talk about the defense, and and certainly Alex Caruso's name
is gonna come up a ton. We watched what he did, right,
I mean, look the bulls miss him to uh you
go all the way through just one of those glue guys.
And I think the reputation is now you can do
whatever you want defensively as Alex Cruz as we've watched
him against superstars like Shad Alex Caruso not being called
(27:05):
for the body falls, well he's not. Suddenly he's getting
superstar calls based on a bit of reputation as a
defensive stopper. So you're getting to see him be aggressive
at the point of attack, which is it's just very
interesting to watch from a guy who was an also
Ran ancillary part for years and just a fan favorite too.
(27:28):
He's a guy that's helping lead you to a Western
Conference title.
Speaker 1 (27:33):
Suddenly Game two is the series and and you you
feel like the t Wolves are are are now reeling
because you just basically showed them in the second half.
Speaker 3 (27:43):
We have an extra gear that you don't have. And
and now that if you're Minnesota, you had the questions
in the last series, you're able to get through it, right,
You're able to get through it, Okay, But this is
a this is a different animal. Julius Randall's not hitting
five threes in the first half. Again, that's not gonna happen,
right that this is a huge missed opportunity for the team. Right,
(28:03):
you didn't play great basketball, like I said, seven turnovers
in that first quarter, which is again when they get
to seventeen, I think they stopped counting. But you look
at his shooting, the passivity of and ineffectiveness of your
rest of your shooters, shake Gilgers Alexander with that rough
start to kind of maybe balance that a little bit.
(28:24):
So you knew he'd be better, but that he would
keep attacking. Right, That's the one thing that we can
say we've we've figured out in his MVP season. Why
they still haven't crowned, I don't know. But all of
that to say for the Timberwolves, a lot of introspection
coming out of this one, because you had, at least
at halftime, you had to feel pretty good about your chances.
(28:45):
You hadn't been run out of the gym yet, you
hadn't played your best basketball. Yes, Julius might not hit,
but Devincenzo maybe finds his shot, or Ant has a
little bit of a takeover, and instead it was more
passivity and you got run off the.
Speaker 1 (28:59):
Court, exit out bout a Fresca exit swollen dome. Jason
Smith Mike Harmon live from the Fox Sports Radio studios.
So this is why I picked the thunder and it
just it just played out exactly how I talked about
it last night, and Edward's two passes time now to
find out what's trending in the wide world of sports.
But guy's been called me in Edwards a Fox Sports Radio,
(29:19):
don't you dare?
Speaker 3 (29:20):
Sometimes you go looking for me, you can't find him.
It's Steve the Sega.
Speaker 7 (29:25):
Did you notice that he turned his ankle and left
the court in the first half of tonight's playoff game?
But he wasn't really limping that hard off and it
wasn't a wheelchair back on.
Speaker 4 (29:36):
He was packed pretty quickly, So I don't think that's.
Speaker 7 (29:39):
An excuse for, as you say, not being more aggressive
here in this one.
Speaker 4 (29:42):
Because you still play thirty seven.
Speaker 7 (29:44):
I think the point was made. Minnesota could have been
ahead by a lot more at different points in the
first tap. By the way, you mentioned earlier in sports tonight,
we had the fever dream matchup in the WNBA Atlanta
one ninety one ninety at Indiana. We also had the
Carolina Panthers.
Speaker 1 (29:58):
But that doesn't it feel like if it's a fever dream,
the score should be higher than ninety one.
Speaker 4 (30:03):
Ninety should be like one o two, one on one.
That's pretty It's pretty high. It's quarters.
Speaker 1 (30:07):
I had a fever dream. My temperature was one hundred
and two, like ninety one nineties.
Speaker 7 (30:11):
Like, oh, okay, you're saying they had the fever, but
they needed more cowb exactly. In the NHL playoffs, Carolina
lost to the Panthers five to two Florida in Game
one of the East Final. Dallas host Edmonton and the
opener of the West Final Wednesday. In the NBA East
Final start Wednesday with Indiana New York. Tonight at OKC,
(30:32):
Thunder dominated the second half, beating Minnesota one fourteen to
eighty eight. Jay Gilgess Alexander, who was two of thirteen
shooting from the floor in the first half, nonetheless finished
with thirty one points and nine assists. OKAC had just
played a game seven to end the previous round a
couple days ago. Minnesota had been off for almost a week.
One game to none lead for the top seeds, and
OKAC will host game two on Thursday. We've got a
(30:55):
no hitter going at Dodger Stadium. They're actually getting pitching
la yosh Nobu Yamamoto, who comes in with an ERA
of two point one two this year as a no hitter.
Speaker 4 (31:06):
Bottom of the sixth. Don't do it, Steve, don't do it.
Speaker 7 (31:09):
Dodgers lead one nothing over Arizona. Well, I haven't mentioned
that he's thrown ninety pitches already in six It's not
gonna be a decision.
Speaker 4 (31:16):
Dave Roberts. Dave Roberts can't wait to go to the
mound to take him out. He can't wait right now
in the tunnel, he can't wait.
Speaker 7 (31:23):
He can't wait for that first hit to be surrendered
and then.
Speaker 4 (31:25):
They race to the mound.
Speaker 1 (31:26):
He's gonna Young Moto's gonna walk out to the mound
for the sixth inning, and Dave Roberts is gonna run
behind him and tackle him.
Speaker 7 (31:33):
Six scoreless, eight strikeouts, one walk. Arizona is oz for
eighteen against him. As for the other games, the White
Sox are still leading one nothing ninth against the Maritors.
This is a game that had a rain delay at
the start of about an hour and a half. The
White Sox currently have tied their worst ever start to
a season. Last year, they also started at fourteen and
(31:54):
thirty four. Could have a w on the horizon two
outs in the ninth Right now, John.
Speaker 1 (31:59):
Had put five games between them and the Rockies in
the race for worse windings.
Speaker 7 (32:05):
Colorado did lose again. Philadelphia won its fifth straight game,
seven to four at Colorado. The Rockies record is eight
and forty pause and ouch Giants three to one leaders
against the Royals in the bottom of the sixth and
going to the sixth and Sacramento Angels holding on five
to four over the A's. Detroit won five to four
(32:25):
at Saint Louis with a run in the top of
the ninth. Riley Green three hits, four RBIs Milwaukee sent
Baltimore to an eighth straight loss, five to two. Cleveland
at Minnesota was rained out. Toronto shut out the Padres
three and I think Blue Jays only had three hits,
but two of them were homers. The Yankees got a
sixteenth homer this year from Aaron Judge. He's betting four
oh three Yanks by Texas five to two. By the way,
(32:47):
in that Philadelphia victory, seventeenth homer this year for Kyle Schwarber.
Home wins for Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay for Boston and Washington.
The Cubs won fourteen to one at Miami.
Speaker 1 (32:58):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve O Smith, Mike Harmon
Live from the Fox Sports Radio suities. We got more
NBA on the way, but coming up next an NFL
story from today about who could be the next great
running back in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (33:14):
And Michael Myers. That's next Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 4 (33:19):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (33:19):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 1 (33:29):
I'm just not saying anything because I know, like for
a few seconds, good number of people are probably listening
by themselves in a room and they're like.
Speaker 4 (33:35):
God, I'm scared, don't play that music. Don't play that music. Smith,
You're a jerk, and you said play Mary.
Speaker 1 (33:44):
What does Michael Myers and Halloween have to do with
one of the biggest NFL stories of the day, Well,
luckily you asked.
Speaker 4 (33:52):
Today.
Speaker 1 (33:53):
Raiders running back Ashton Genty, who potentially he's gonna be everybody.
He's Rookie of the Year, He's gonna run for eighteen hundred.
He's exactly what the Raiders need. Raiders ZC. Chip Kelly says, Uh,
I'd like you to be in more of a stance,
more of a crouch when the snap comes to you. Okay, sure, Yeah,
(34:14):
that makes sense. As it was explained to Ashton Genty,
Look if I was guarding you in basketball, how would
it look like. And Ashton Genty kind of got down.
He is, that's kind of how you have to be.
Makes me hope that Chip Kelly knows more about football
than basketball. But the thing is, Ashton Genty has always
stood up straight, and he has kind of made a
cottage industry in the last year or so of being
(34:34):
compared to Michael Myers because the way he stands in
the backfield, like there's merch and there's T shirts that
are sold, and there's memes, and there's an identity, and
because he would stand up straight, and like Michael Myers
when he would just stand there, there's all kinds of stuff.
You can find it on the Internet of Michael Myers
just standing and Ashton Genty just standing before the snap comes.
(34:55):
And my first thought was when I saw this story
and Ashgenty says, you know, I understand, coach, he he
wins this.
Speaker 4 (35:00):
I'll try it for now. Okay.
Speaker 1 (35:03):
Now, first thing is like, wow, this guy could make
some money and these are T shirts, this is this
is NFL stuff and all you can take money out
of his pocket. Man you know, he's not gonna let
him stand like Michael Myers anymore. Like this is a thing,
like you can stand like Michael Myers, doesn't have to
wear the mask and all kinds of stuff.
Speaker 3 (35:18):
But now if he did that on top of it,
like it would be pretty cool. The shield that he
that he had a mask.
Speaker 1 (35:24):
Oh, the old personality posts of the NFL, like they
used to have, like in the nineties, like Jim Jim
Kelly was machine gun Kelly and he would have a
machine gun and a bunch of footballs and like pretend
to pretend to be dead players, you know.
Speaker 4 (35:36):
And I'm gonna get with footballs. I found a place
that still sells. They still.
Speaker 3 (35:41):
And now they're they're they're owned by a company. You
can come back in the wayback machine like him.
Speaker 1 (35:47):
Want him doing this with a Michael Myers mask on
standing up like okay, you're going into his pocket here.
I understand the philosophy. I understand it of hey, you
want to be in a crouch more than that, But
Genti even said today, you know, it's just about me
being comfortable and what gives me confidence. And that's why
the Michael Meyers stance will be back it'll be back
(36:09):
sooner rather than later, because you can't reinvent.
Speaker 4 (36:12):
A player at this level.
Speaker 3 (36:14):
And if Ashton Genty is comfortable with that, okay, you're
really buying a lot taking a guy out of his
comfort zone to get him to move eight inches to
have his hands on his pads eight Is that really
what it is? Because maybe and I'm just throwing this
out there, maybe GENTI yeah, I'm very confident in this,
and maybe the reason behind it is I'm five nine
(36:35):
and I feel like I can see the whole field.
I need that little bit extra standing up where I
can see where the linebackers are, I can see where
the safety is. Rather if I'm in a crouch, I
can't see if the safety is moving. I can't see
if a linebacker is shifting. I can maybe see it.
Speaker 1 (36:50):
Nobody told Drew Brees, Dude, Drew, don't throw with your
head cocked all the way back. But I get an
extra three inches in my eyes because I'm only six
feet tall, so i can see a little bit more
with that big necktilt. And I'm sure the arthritis for
Drew Brees is going to be off the hook when
he gets older. He had plenty of treatments. He's a
card show here in a month or two and ask him,
(37:10):
how's that. I can't do that right?
Speaker 3 (37:12):
Maybe that led to the shoulder, and I mean the
nerves styf could have been right, but look at us doctors.
Speaker 1 (37:18):
But that got him three extra inches, I'm sure. And
if this gets genty being more, I can see the
field a little bit more. You gotta let it stay right.
I mean, first of all, not just because it's a
great story. It's Halloween, it's Michael Mais. I'm sure somebody
else will come in and maybe Amari and Hanton will
be the Jason Forhees. I don't know, but you know
he gets something fun.
Speaker 3 (37:35):
But when a player is comfortable doing that, yeah, there's
only so much you can do with the NFL to
change how they play, right. You got to teach them
the NFL game and certain things one hundred percent. But
the player is who he is at this point. Anytime
a player comes to the NFL and they go, well,
we you were really good, you know, as as a
as a defensive lineman. But boy, if I put you
(37:56):
with your your hand in the dirt, we think you
can be a great defensive tackle. Okay, so you're gonna
take a guy away from the reason you're drafted him
because you think he can be better at different position. Yeah,
cross that guy off as someone who's gonna underachieve, right,
and I go, this is a small thing, but this
is you're taking away what he does.
Speaker 1 (38:12):
Is the gain that much? The gain is not that
much for the confidence and what he can do seeing
the field by being by being four or five inches high,
it's more than three inch for Brees. Like if you're
talking about Genti down in the stance versus standing up straight,
that's probably and it's probably about five inches worth of height,
and that's you can see so much more of the field.
(38:33):
If that makes you more cochab Okay, if I can
know where I can hit a hole a little.
Speaker 3 (38:37):
Bit better because I can see it. Yeah, I mean really,
you got to understand that that it's okay to have that.
It's not it's not worth that millisecond of advantage you're
going to get. No, absolutely, go back to the Drew
Brees analogy. I mean, he threw the ball and his
throwing style was reminiscent of the old electric video game
or the electric game that you had right where you
had to put the ball, a little phone ball in
(38:58):
the guy's hand and cock his arm and then he
shot put it over the top with jenty. If we're
talking about just that's because that was one of the
questions coming out, right. Is he too short for some
of the blitz pickups and other things you're gonna do
if he's comfortable and has shown this level of dominance.
(39:19):
I'm sorry, Chip Kelly, you were the guy fifteen years ago,
and I know you had a nice little resurgence here
in Ohio State.
Speaker 4 (39:25):
Let the kid do what he needs to.
Speaker 3 (39:27):
You're trying to climb out of the basement and get
back to relevancy.
Speaker 4 (39:30):
Let the guy work.
Speaker 3 (39:31):
He's at plus two fifty plus two seventy five in
a couple of sportsbooks.
Speaker 4 (39:35):
Hampton at fourteen to one.
Speaker 1 (39:37):
Shut him down the air, Jason Smith, Mike Harmon live
from the Fox Sports Radio studios. Let Michael Myers cook.
That could be a thing, right, Let Michael Myers cook?
Speaker 3 (39:51):
No?
Speaker 5 (39:52):
Why not?
Speaker 4 (39:52):
Sure? Come out next?
Speaker 1 (39:53):
We get back into the NBA into the most fun
story of the day, without a doubt.
Speaker 3 (39:57):
FA
