Speaker 2 (00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
Greetings, Welcome in Side hour two The Jason Smith Show
with my bas friend.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
Mike Harmon, Well dressed Hobo.
Speaker 1 (00:35):
Live from the Fox Sports Radio studios, where things got
serious in a hurry, Dodgers in Blue Jays not at
the too apiece, and the sixth inning boy got a
pictures dual going. Things are kind of happening. Yeah. Uh
it is eleven four Blue Jays with the lead over
(00:56):
the Dodgers as they bat in the top of the
eighth inning. Uh oh to two counts Scar Hernandez one out.
The Blue Jays erupt as Blake Snell is chased from
the game in the sixth inning, he loads the bases
with no one out. Dodgers bring in thirteen relievers who
can't get out of the inning and uh, after a
Grand Slam home run, pinch hit home run by Addison Barger,
(01:17):
who really may as well retire from baseball right now.
It's never getting any better than this.
Speaker 4 (01:21):
He's gonna be on a stamp. I mean he might
by the end of the week.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
I mean, you know, I want to know, you know what, Hey,
grab Steve to Sager this because I got I gotta
ask him this question. Here here is man Steve at
the New King So so here's the thing, Addison Barger.
Here he is first at first World Series at bat, right,
pinch hits and he hits a home run. I wonder
if the great statistician Sarah Langs, maybe Steve de Sager
(01:47):
is actually Sarah Leans. Again, we don't know that we've
never seen the two of them together, first at bat
in the World Series being a Grand Slam.
Speaker 5 (01:59):
I think, and yeah, no, has that ever happened?
Speaker 1 (02:03):
You're first at bat in the World Series is a
Grand Slam? If I'm if I'm not the only thing
I can think of and I can't find you because
I just thought of this now is that I want
to say, maybe Jose Conseko because if I remember right.
Speaker 5 (02:18):
I don't know if that was early in game one.
I don't know if right, no, but I want but
I want to say.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
What I think I remember is his first at bat
he got hit by a pitch and then this which
is not in thatt bad obviously, and his second at
bat was a grand slam. But okay, so we actually
had two plate appearances. This is your first plate appearance
and a Grand Slam for it.
Speaker 3 (02:39):
That's that's worth researching. All right, there, I have a
half hour answer tonight, But.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
Steve, you have a half hour.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
There so few grand slams in World Series history. It's
it's a finite list.
Speaker 5 (02:52):
Put it.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
Then listen, listen Winston Churchill.
Speaker 6 (02:55):
I know for a fact Winston Churchill did not hit
a Grand Slam.
Speaker 1 (02:59):
Yeah, actually had a Grand Slam in cricket. I don't
know if you know that.
Speaker 5 (03:02):
Nonetheless, it was the finest hour.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
We will go under the end.
Speaker 4 (03:08):
We will never surrender, never, never, never.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
He's very fair. One of the greatest things anybody's ever
said and most accurate is that, and attributed to him,
is that there's no problem that can't be solved in
twenty minutes when people put their heads together and work
on it. So you gotta give you a half hour, Steve.
Speaker 5 (03:22):
Well, yeah, said their heads together plural. I'm not sure that's.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
Because you and Sarah Langs put your heads together and
figure out.
Speaker 6 (03:29):
Have you seen the substance, Steve? We can have a
second version of you in no time play.
Speaker 3 (03:34):
The only list that I've seen so far is the
amount of Pinch Grand Slams there have been in postseason
play period. This is the only one in World Series play.
There had only been three in the playoffs period, one
of those Ricky Leday Yankees nineteen ninety nine ALCS.
Speaker 5 (03:52):
So for a guy in.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
His Grand Slam your first World I can't imagine that
has happened.
Speaker 4 (03:59):
His tops now card will be available to borrow with
a crazy.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
Buy a home run, a Grand Slam home run in
your first World Series at bat?
Speaker 4 (04:10):
What's that? What's that worth? In the in the in Canada?
Speaker 1 (04:13):
Oh in Canada? Yeah, well, you mean for the exchange
rate or just what's it worth? What's it?
Speaker 4 (04:17):
Words? I mean as a as a you know national artifact?
Speaker 1 (04:21):
Oh okay, Oh well what I mean? Well, man, maybe
that Brian Adams microphone?
Speaker 6 (04:27):
Uh, Nickelback's gold record?
Speaker 3 (04:30):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (04:30):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, sure, Wayne Gretzky puck. Yeah, yeah,
I think that. I think I think that's where you're
going right there. Okay, yeah, that's what we got right there,
all right?
Speaker 3 (04:38):
Didn't Andrew Jones hit a couple of home runs in
his first I don't know if that was his first
at bat. It certainly wasn't a grand slam. That's what
I'm saying. There's no wave, Steve. I asked you the question.
I told you what I need to know.
Speaker 5 (04:49):
You have a half hour, Okay, I'll say no.
Speaker 6 (04:54):
We're gonna run it like twenty four. There's a clock
above Steve that is counting.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
No, no, no, I'm retiring to the kitchen.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
The answer is no, I'm going to the kitchen instead.
Speaker 6 (05:06):
I am Oh my good, thanks Steve. See told you,
didn't he uh four on top of the eighth one
out and just the the ephist as months he goes down.
It's just a crazy game, man. You see how quickly
things escalate, and it's all pep Tech's fault.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
Man, I mean amazing, I really I want to say
that that that's something with Conseko that he got hit
his first time up and then he hit a grand slam.
So technically his first That bat was a Grand Slam,
but it wouldn't be his first plate appearance obviously. And
here's Addison Barger. I mean, my god, man, I mean,
my got The guy had a pretty good year too.
He just wasn't starting tonight like he's a twenty one
and seventy five. It's only been in the league a
(05:50):
couple of years. Like he's pretty good. And now I mean,
but here, man, I don't know. I think i'd just
be done. Hey Skip, Yeah, yeah, I'm done. What do
you mean I did? Yeah, it's it's never going to
get any better. I'm gonna think about this every day
for the rest of my life. Bad you can win
this without me. I'll see you for the ring ceremony
opening day. All right, thanks? Hey see a Skip, comebye?
Speaker 6 (06:09):
Hit safely in six straight games going to this one man,
come on.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
He's scaling it. It is an eleven to four lead
again for the Blue Jays over the Dodgers. Dodgers batting
top of the eighth inning, two outs, runner on. For
all intents and purposes, they will take a one game
to nothing lead in the World Series headed into Game two.
We'll have more on this coming up and a bit.
John Paul Morosi's gonna stop by following the conclusion of
(06:34):
this game. But look, the day after the NBA gambling
scandal has brought us. There was a lot of information yesterday,
right And I felt weird after the show last night
we did. I felt like there were so many different
angles on it. But it was such a big and
developing story. You knew that, Okay, there's some stuff that
was gonna come out today, that after the dust settled,
(06:56):
these were the times to ask and answer these questions
right now, he told you last hour the NBA today, Clearly, Adams,
I'm embarrassed for the NBA because again, Adam Silver doesn't
want to do anything. He clearly doesn't want anything to
do with this, doesn't want to seem like a strong leader.
Said that he's disturbed by the the gambling indictments of
Chauncey Billups and Damon Jones and Terry Rozier, and you
(07:17):
have all crime families involved and potentially fixing outcomes of
games for gamblers. And he says, yeah, I'm disturbed, but hey,
you know, Terry hasn't been convicted of anything. And to
watch the heat just basically say yeah, we support Terry Rozier.
I mean, come on, man, the dude has been federally
indicted on fixing games. This is a bit, you know,
the end. You got to show that you're serious on this. Right.
(07:38):
So now that and one hundred percent on that. Now
here's where there's a bit of a sunny side for
the NBA, right, because there is a sunny side. Today
was the big debate, and you know, Stephen A. Smith
kind of kicked it off by saying, hey, here comes
the Trump administration in tration to go get the NBA, right,
And Rachel Nichols said she had some connected some dots
that that President Trump and the FBI we're in on this, right.
(08:02):
And this was their push because they're mad at the
NBA and and and they were taking this to be
you know, revenge politics, which is you know, been a
very popular phrase the last few months now. And this
is this is actually what I'm gonna say, is a
good thing for the NBA, right because not not you know,
not not politically wise, but one thing, you know, Democrat
Republican doesn't matter. This administration doesn't do anything quietly, right,
(08:26):
There's nothing quietly. It's about grabbing, like I mean, they
it's been a masterclass of grabbing the news cycle over
the course of the past eight years. What what President
Trump and the Republicans have been able to do, right,
Like when when President Trump worked in McDonald's for like
that that you know that eight seconds like that was
everywhere for like four days. I'm like, my good Kamala
Harris couldn't buy that kind of publicity. Trump just showed
(08:46):
up and added McDonald's. It was, oh, my goodness. Right, So,
this administration does nothing quietly, right, And whether or not
you believe they're in on the NBA and they want
to get the NBA, there's nothing quietly they're gonna do
about any right, nothing they're gonna do. So if this
is something they're investigating and they're going after the NBA,
they're not gonna do this under the cover of night.
(09:06):
They're not gonna do this and say, hey, we're kind
of like, hey, guess what we're as a we uncovered
here's what's going on right now. We made these arrests.
We're moving on. No, they do everything publicly. They want
people to see their wins. You know, you saw FBI
director kash Ptel say, oh, this is the insider trading
scandal of the NBA. I'm like, okay, all right, it's
a big deal and I understand this, but okay, you know,
(09:29):
the NBA is a pretty big place, and you know
everybody's not insider trading, but I understand here's a big story.
They don't do anything quietly, so you know when they
went after this story, it's it's it's all kinds of
gusto because they want to be able to have the
press conference after and say look what we did, right
and after this long investigation, this is what they came
(09:49):
up with. Chauncey Billups, Terry Rogier, who was already in
the NBA's crosshairs, and the NBA let go say yeah,
we couldn't find anything, and Damon Jones. Right now, it's
a big deal, right obviously, when you're talking about prop
bets and fixing games for this, it's a big deal.
Can the public get past this? Yeah, because one of
our big topics last night was, you know, this is
(10:11):
something that the NBA would find as acceptable outcome. Not
their favorite obviously, but the games they're gonna make because
of their gambling partners, DraftKings and Fan Duel and everyone else, Hey,
they understand this is the way it's gonna go. There's
gonna be bumps down in the road. This is something
that hey, kind of embarrassing, not a great thing. But
in the end, is it fatal? Is this gonna hurt
(10:32):
the games? It's gonna hurt people watching the games. No,
you're talking about prop bets from the ninth and tenth
guys on the league games where maybe guys sat at
the end of a game, at the end of a season,
where the outcome was already figured out. Chauncey Billups at
a poker game, Right, So NBA fans gonna be able
to move past this a little bit. If this was
a bigger deal and all today we heard was Oh,
(10:53):
it's coming, it's coming. Wait you see what's coming? Wait,
do you see what's coming? I gotta think that after
what however months long long investigation this was, if it
was that widespread, if we were getting that many more names,
was that big a deal. It would have been bigger
than here's Chauncey Billups and Damon Jones and Terry Rogier.
I gotta think it would have been bigger. That there
(11:14):
would have been bigger names, would have been more it
would have been a bigger deal because as much as
you could have a win, you want a bigger win. Right,
Why win by one when you can win by ten?
Why win by ten if you can win by twenty. Right,
So I have a sneaking suspicion. I feel pretty good
about saying that, Hey, yeah, this is a bad deal
for the NBA, But is it gonna get worse? Just
because people want to say it's gonna get worse doesn't
(11:35):
mean it's gonna get worse. And I just go by
the facts that you know exactly how this was investigated.
If there was a lot more, they would have had it. Right,
They're not gonna continue to hold things back because if
they did have more, you would start hearing leaks and names,
and this is happening, and this is kind instead of
just watch out. I'm the town crier here, I am
ringing the bell. Get out of your beds. Oh, the
(11:56):
British are coming to British. Yeah, you kept telling me
the British were coming. I'm going back to me. Oh no,
wait a minute, the British arca. We got to get
out of here. So I feel pretty good for the
NBA that this is a scandal and it's something they
got to deal with and get over. But I feel like, Okay,
this is going to be like the Otani gambling scandal
from a year ago where it happened. It's a big
deal and we're going to put it to bed and
(12:16):
in a month or in two weeks whatever. For the NBA,
this is going to be something that we forget about.
Speaker 4 (12:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (12:22):
I think there's always going to be some level of
skepticism and criticism and curiosities related to the Otani thing.
Folks are going to believe what they will. I'm not
I'm not trying to change your mind, and I don't
know how many arguments you can have about it otherwise. Right,
But certainly we saw a lot of pictures of epay
in the last twenty four hours on our timelines, did
(12:42):
we not? But when we look at look politically, everybody's
going to take their wins like why or when there's
a tragedy, who's the first on the ground with the
film crew, whatever, whatever that politician is of that area
to try to get out in front of it. That's
just the way it works. In this case, it's a
long investigation going back two years and it's the opening
(13:04):
of a new season. So what better timing than to
come out and say, hey, this is back. But you know,
you got to know this is lurking in the shadows.
And we talked with Todd Ferman last night the transparency
of it here. It is remember like the worst case
scenario and everybody that's calling for they need to get
away from all the gambling and say, yeah, that's right,
go push it back to the shadow lands where there's
(13:25):
no transparency and you're dealing with guys where it's not
a hey you need to do an eft A transfer, No, no, no,
it's actually something much more severe if debts aren't paid
and those kind of shadow lands that exist and always
have and guess what, you're not changing them. The fact
that you had had the prime families tied. Whatever it
(13:46):
comes out of novels, movies, television shows, whatever else. For
Adam Silver, I think for the league, you know they
talked about it, the aberrational behavior whatever, those are all
statements that should have come out when they've complete concluded
their own saying hey, the NBA has done everything we
can and the federal government will continue unless they were
(14:07):
told they can't talk about a government probe and investigation,
because I don't remember ever hearing any definitive notes coming
out of Rosier until now it's like, oh yeah, yeah,
we looked into it. There was nothing there, right, aberrational movie.
Speaker 1 (14:22):
Also, wouldn't you hear from the government, wouldn't they say
we're getting we we got so much more we have
so we're ready, But we didn't get that. We got
all about this and all about the situation. So yeah,
we would. We wouldn't have gotten more again because again
you know, hey, very everything is public now, everything we know,
all the wins and losses and everything else. I feel
like it would have been, hey, guess what you know,
kash Patel said, things are, things are bigger, and we're
(14:44):
gonna got more names coming and and and and it
would be much more leading to something else bigger. I
think we would have been told.
Speaker 6 (14:50):
Yeah, I mean, that's a political game and in general,
as I'm alluding to, you know, regardless of which side
of the aisle you're on, uh, you want to stay
claim whether it's hey, we got an extra stop sign
put in in my our local elections where we got
the extra funding to paint those lines. They're straight this
time and there are blinking lights as you go across
the street. You're you're gonna get in front of as
(15:12):
many people as you can to try to trumpet your
wins because eventually you have to stand for re election
to keep the gravy train moving. I mean, we we
recognize that. But when when it comes to this kind
of situation, is it completely over? I I'm never gonna
believe that, right, But would they have waited for a
bigger fish if it was on the hook, Yeah, I
(15:34):
think they would have. Like I think if something was imminent,
we we we wouldn't have gotten this. You'd have more
whispers and then eventually the big name and you've seen
a bunch of Hall of Famers names bandied about.
Speaker 4 (15:47):
I'm not doing that. I like my job.
Speaker 6 (15:49):
Uh So I'll let you guys go into the rumor,
conjecture and speculation in the social media spheres that that's
pretty good and it's fun fodder. But until something comes
to fruid, it's like a lot of this stuff. You
can speculate on everything we did for years, as guys
started looking like Marvel superheroes in the batter's box, on
the mound, on the court, on the gridiron whatever. But
(16:12):
if the processes tell us one thing, you take it
at face value and you move on.
Speaker 4 (16:18):
Right. As a fan, you want the best product possible
and you hope it's all on the level.
Speaker 6 (16:23):
But you know, we go from as we talked about
the game last night, right, how far do the hands
have to be under a football? All of those kind
of things, and play to play. I don't know what
I'm looking at sometimes. I mean, I still come back
to one of the great questions of our lifetime.
Speaker 4 (16:39):
What is a catch.
Speaker 1 (16:41):
That we're never gonna find out that, you know what.
Speaker 4 (16:44):
I mean, We're gonna do something that elemental in a
game remains such a mystery you think we solved the
rest of this crap.
Speaker 1 (16:51):
Come on, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, not happening. Exit
ot out of Fresca, Exit Swollen Dome. The Jason Smith

Speaker 1 (18:04):
Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. Two
out show, Heyotani at first base, top of the ninth
inning and uh sho hay nearly picked off of first base.
The Blue Jays are challenging the play, okay, so Eric
lower walks show, Heyotani and now two outs eleven to four,
(18:27):
game Like this is over? Right here it is, and
it's over, and Eric Lawer decides to throw to first
to try to pick off show Hayotani. It's a close play,
so they're reviewing it, but I want to see the
replay again because I'm pretty sure harmed that vled. Junior
looked at Eric Lower shook his finger like, don't throw
over here, just get the guy. Just pit Jake.
Speaker 4 (18:48):
I wasn't even, man, what do we do?
Speaker 5 (18:51):
Don't throw over here?
Speaker 1 (18:52):
Man?
Speaker 6 (18:53):
He and O'tani standing on first base having a good
laugh at the whole situation. But you're right, it's like, dude,
games over, Just go get the get the hitter, and
let's get out of here. I mean, look, I play
it to the final out right until I got number
twenty seven in the books. I'm I'm still, you know,
playing and going back to the fundamentals. But certainly Vlad
(19:16):
wanted no part of it.
Speaker 1 (19:17):
I know, right, I mean that's why I love baseball,
man like, and Lower's had a pretty good year, right,
pretty good guy out of the pen. You know, he's
had a nice year for them, and just to let
Junior just shake gives to the Mtumbo, Hey, don't throw
it because it looked like he was kind of surprised, Yeah,
that the throat came over because he wasn't really holding
him on and he's like he gave him them tumbo fingerwrack,
(19:39):
like dude, hey, you know, don't throw, you know, And
you can see lower not at him, like hey, yeah, okay,
got it, got it, got you. Just just pitched it
to a five front lead. It's six run lead. Just
pitch the mookie seven run lead. I could do math,
but just pitch the mookie bets. Just pitch bets.
Speaker 6 (19:51):
As they're doing the review, right, it's up on the
jumbo tron, and they show the first base coach and
those two standing up there kind of talking to each
other a little bit, and then they get a little
bit closer and they're giggling like they're, you know, like
little kids that just just.
Speaker 4 (20:04):
Like, I want that conversation whatever.
Speaker 6 (20:06):
That was seven run game, but guys in that moment
and enjoying that space, couple of superstars that's still at
the plate, but yeah, to the point and finishing off
not expecting to throw.
Speaker 1 (20:20):
So we'll have more on this game coming up in
a couple of minutes. You'll know when it goes final
again eleven to four, Blue Jays lead over the Dodgers now,
but to go back a few minutes ago, thanks to
Pete Feutach for stopping by our our our best college
football insider with phenomenal stuff. Every single week he brings
us and he said, you know, I'm gonna throw a
name at you guys that you guys need to know.
(20:43):
Drew mesta Maker, who just finished throwing for six hundred
yards in North Texas's fifty four to twenty win over
Charlotte thirty seven out of forty nine, six hundred and
eight yards and four touchdowns for the guy went the
whole way back, uh, six oh eight and four touchdowns. Now,
(21:03):
if you remember him, this is the guy who all
of a sudden, you know, played quarterback in their bowl
game last year and had a big night like through
for like three hundred and fifty yards and and like
four touchdowns in the bowl game. But I was a
really big deal. And uh, you know when you look
at him, this is a guy that didn't start a
game in high school, didn't start a game, walked on
at North Texas and here he is now Star Courts
(21:26):
beat out a kid from Miami. Uh, University of Miami
who transferred over who they thought was going to be
the starting quarterback this year. I'm you, this guy's a
real life Chad Powers from the TV show, Like in
the in the TV show Chat, you know, Glenn Powell
playing a quarterback disgrace college quarterback, but you know, finds
a way to to you know, put on makeup and
change his appearance and he and he goes on to
(21:47):
play college football someplace else. You know, the big Eli
Manning Chad Power skit from a couple of years ago,
you know, back when James Franklin was a Penn State
head coach. And uh, like the whole backstory for Chad
Powers in in the TV show, which is really funny.
I'm surprised, yea, his back So obviously there's no video
with him from high school. He says he didn't really
(22:07):
go to high school. He he just shows up at
campus one day for open tryouts and you know, eventually
wins the starting quarterback job after not too long because
but the first and second string guys are both hurt.
So this guy's he's like a real life Chad Power.
So there's no video of this guy from high school.
He didn't play. He just shows up and walks on
and now here he is throwing for six hundred yards
(22:29):
in a game.
Speaker 6 (22:30):
Coming into the game, averaged about two hundred and seventy
passing yards per game, completing two thirds of his past attempts,
seventeen touchdowns against three picks, and now has this rusted
out fifty four to twenty year final as the Mean
Green get it rolling. But yeah, I mean this becomes
the stuff of legend. I gotta imagine his story has
(22:51):
already been optioned to Disney.
Speaker 1 (22:54):
I'm sure it has. I will they say, listen, but
we're already kind of doing this on uh with with
Chad Power, So we'll you know, we'll uh well, we'll let
you know we do it again.
Speaker 4 (23:02):
Tell you what.
Speaker 6 (23:03):
We got one or two episodes that we add holding
for the end of season one. So, since Glenn's gonna
need to disappear to go promote Running Man for a
month or so, how about you step in for us here, Pat,
how's your comedic timing.
Speaker 1 (23:16):
Exit ut out of Fresca exit swalling down the Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon.
Speaker 4 (23:21):
Well, are you gonna sign up at Syracuse? Sorry?
Speaker 1 (23:24):
We yeah, listen, we can use anybody at Syracuse right now.
You can use anybody. We have breaking news coming into
our newsroom right now here at Fox Sports Radio special
key you received A Sager has the latest right now,
and I believe it has to do with the Knicks
being two and zero after beating the Celtics. Steve, what
do you have for us?
Speaker 3 (23:43):
Just doesn't end Game one of the World Series to
Toronto in emphatic fashion eleven for the final over the
favorite Dodgers. Now, the rookie trey Ya Savage was Toronto's
starting pitcher four innings of work. He doesn't get a decision.
Blake's now went five plus innings and when he came out, well,
the men who operate the gas cans coming out of
the doctor ball.
Speaker 5 (24:04):
Pin did their thing. We've seen this before, not quite
to this extent.
Speaker 3 (24:08):
Nine runs in the bottom of the sixth and Toronto
goes on to an eleven to four victory. In fact,
for the Blue Jays, it was single inning playoff franchise record,
scoring nine in the frame, sending twelve batters to the
plate in the inning, facing forty four pitches. In the
bottom of the six em it Sheen came in after
the starter Snell left with bases loaded, no outs. All
(24:30):
three of those runners scored with Sheian in there two
singles in a walk. Anthony Bonda then allowed a Grand
Slam to pinch hitter Addison Barger, the first pinch Grand
Slam in World Series history, two run homer for Alejandro Kirk.
By the way, the great Sarah Lyance does say, this
is only the second time in World Series history where
back to back years we've seen a Grand Slam. Remember
(24:51):
it was Game one last year Freddie Freeman the winning
Grand Slam against the Yankees, and now this pinch Grand
Slam in Toronto tonight.
Speaker 5 (24:59):
The only other time that had happened.
Speaker 3 (25:00):
Nineteen eighty seven and nineteen eighty eight, Which gets as
to what you had referenced earlier. Jason Jose Canseco in
Game one of the eighty eight World Series at Dodger Stadium,
was hit by a pitch in the first inning. In
the second he hit it out with basses loaded. And
I think that's the answer to your question, because you're right,
that's not an official at bet the hit.
Speaker 5 (25:19):
The closest we.
Speaker 3 (25:20):
Would come is that Grand Slam the year before the
opener of the eighty seven World Series in Minnesota, Dan
Gladden hit a grand slam. The team hadn't scored before that,
but it was a fourth inning grand slam, and he
was a leadoff hitter, so he would have had I
can't find a playoff play by play to find out
if he was actually like on on a hit by
(25:42):
pitch or walk or some such thing, but it certainly
was not his plate first plate appearance of the night either.
I know guys like Gim Tennis and Andrew Jones hit
home runs their first two World Series at bets, those
were not grand slams.
Speaker 1 (25:56):
Steve Oh, you know a funny thing if you take
a look at the box score that eighty seven World Series.
If I'm not mistaken again, I felt pretty good about
my Conseco knowledge before. Now I'm on a heat check.
I want to say that in the first three or
four games of that series, the Twins had big fourth
innings in like every game, Like I remember when the
(26:18):
in one of the games, like game call, yeah, where
when the Cardinals got them out in the fourth inning,
like their fans gave them a standing ovation, like they
clapped because they got them out in the fourth ending.
I want to say they had like three three games
where they put up huge numbers in the fourth inning
of that series.
Speaker 3 (26:33):
Remember Ken Herbek, wasn't that game six back when they
used to play Saturday afternoon World Series games. Great, that
was one of the big six innings for Minnesota. It
kept them alive because remember, just the way things worked
back then, you didn't have to be the best team
to have home field advantage. Back then, it was just
the American League's turned to have home field advantage. So
(26:54):
Minnesota went winless on the road, losing all three in
Saint Louis middle of the series. But then they get
to come back and home again one game six, one
game seven, won.
Speaker 6 (27:04):
The title and then of course for a while, this
time it counts. Now I'm going down a rabbit hole
and Dan Gladden highlights on YouTube.
Speaker 4 (27:10):
Thanks Jive.
Speaker 2 (27:12):
Well there we go.
Speaker 1 (27:12):
There's your answer. Only other time. First at Batan the
World Series Jose Cansako, but not his first plate appearance. Now, one,
don't you.
Speaker 4 (27:19):
Get him to come hang out with us for a
couple of hundred.
Speaker 1 (27:21):
Oh, you'd absolutely will come on and talk about that.
He'll come on, We'll get it. I could get him
on in five seconds. I guarantee you. I could just
at him on Twitter and say, do you want to
come on and talk about hitting a Grand Slam your
first at bat? You would say, yeah, what's the number?
I'll call right now. I guarantee you. I could get
osekn Seko to do it. And I don't know the guys.
I guarantee you I could do that. I guarantee you're saying.
Speaker 4 (27:41):
You're gonna put in a call.
Speaker 1 (27:43):
No, I'm just got him on Twitter. Hey, Hose, you
want to talk about hitting a Grand Slam your first
at bat? Since that's what we saw tonight from Bargerie. Yeah, sure,
what's the number? I'll call right now.
Speaker 5 (27:51):
I'm surprised you yourself.
Speaker 2 (27:52):
I'll call it.
Speaker 1 (27:53):
Oh you're on the air. I thought you just wanted
me to talk to you about it. Oh you're on
the air. That's even better. Oh okay, yeah, yeah, I'll
call right now.
Speaker 3 (27:59):
More has been made of that, because you're right, it
wasn't the first inning that Cansako hit the Grand Slam,
but being hit that's not an official at bet to start.
Speaker 1 (28:08):
All right, Now, that was great season. Now he checked
for you. I have another thing for you to keep
track of tonight. Okay, at the end of the night,
nothing about the Knicks. What number will be greater the
Dodgers ERA from tonight or the number of points from
Luka doncic Oh, what number will be greater tonight? Because
Luca's got thirty two at halftime.
Speaker 5 (28:26):
He had twenty three in the first quarter.
Speaker 1 (28:28):
He's got thirty two at.
Speaker 5 (28:30):
Halftime, thirty four. Now they just started the second half.
Speaker 1 (28:33):
That may wind up being greater than the Dodgers ra
We'll have to keep a look at that.
Speaker 3 (28:36):
Well, the Dodgers teamy are right. Well, first off, they're
playing a Toronto team that's averaging what seven runs a
game this postseason, So I'm not gonna say it's not
going to get any better. I'm just saying this is
the same set of hitters that the Dodgers awful bullpen
is going to be facing.
Speaker 5 (28:50):
For the rest of the series.
Speaker 3 (28:51):
So sorry to break the bad news to you. You know,
in a serious note, this might have been a situation
where lefty Alex Vessia came in instead of lefty Anthony
Bonda for all we know, and Vessi is out with
the family matter and the lefty they really don't trust
Tanner Scott, even though he's claiming all week long, Hey,
I'm healthy. I can come back on even now they
(29:14):
want won't put him on a postseason roster. Lack of trust.
So the amount of lefties they have available beyond what
we saw tonight, it's I mean, barring what bringing in Kershers,
it's not a lot of options, Jack Dryer, and that's
about it.
Speaker 1 (29:30):
Tanner Scott is the Knight from Monty Python and the
Holy graild Oh no, the guy from Monty Python. When
to bring out You're dead And they're like the guys, hey,
take this guy. I'm not dead. Yes you are. No,
I'm feeling really good. No, you're dead. You're dead. I
might go for a walk later. Now trust us, you're dead,
Like Tanner Scott, I can play. No, you really can't.
Speaker 5 (29:47):
You really get just to the left fresh.
Speaker 4 (29:49):
Yet Scott and.
Speaker 6 (29:53):
CONFORDO right and big money in the part of the
equation none active?
Speaker 1 (29:58):
Yeah all right, Steve, I know. Now we have the Dodgers.
They lose Game one, the Blue Jays take a one
game to nothing lead for that and the rest of
the night in sports, including the Knicks taking care of
let's see the Cavaliers opening night, the Celtics tonight, all
the teams they couldn't beat last year. We solved that
right away. Steve will now give you four minutes on
(30:19):
the Knicks win over the Cat, over the Blue, over
the Boston Celtics tonight.
Speaker 5 (30:23):
Steve, did someone hit a grand slam?
Speaker 4 (30:25):
Yes, that's Michael hit. He hit a three and he
was fouled.
Speaker 3 (30:31):
Jalen Brunson was actually hit by a pitch his first
at bed, so technically it was not. Brunson had thirty
one points. New York beat Boston one oh five ninety five.
Cleveland won at Brooklyn, won thirty one, one twenty four.
Donovan Mitchell thirty five points. Milwaukee a winner at Toronto
in Believe Me, a game the city of Toronto will
never remember, occurred one twenty two, one sixteen bucks. Janni
(30:52):
Santenacumpo thirty one points, twenty rebounds. Orlando committed twenty one
turnovers at home in Atlanta, edge the man one eleven
to one oh seven. Miami a winner at Memphis won
forty six to one fourteen. Detroit won a close one
at Houston, won fifteen one eleven despite thirty seven points
from Kevin Durant of the Rockets, Victor Webanyam and the
(31:13):
Spurs won in overtime at New Orleans won twenty to
one sixteen Wemby with twenty nine points, eleven rebounds and
nine block shots and no turnovers in this game. By
the way, the Pelicans today signed veteran center DeAndre Jordan.
He did not play tonight. Washington won at Dallas one seventeen,
one oh seven. You mentioned the Laker game. They're early
in the third quarter, Lakers ahead of Minnesota seventy six
(31:35):
sixty eight, streaming only Luka Donsich with thirty four points
in twenty minutes on the court so far. Also in progress,
Portland at home ahead of the two to zero Golden
State Warriors mid third quarter eighty one seventy one. I
don't know if anything's been going on in Portland recent days,
but they sure seem charged to face Steph Curry in
(31:56):
company this evening, and Curry has thirty points already and
they're ten in the NHL. New Jersey won its seventh
straight game seven and one record. They beat San Jose
three to one, Buffalo and Washington with wins Winnipeg six
and two after a home win against Calgary five to three.
Quarterback Brock Party of the forty nine ers out again
this weekend with his toe injury, so Mac Jones will start.
(32:18):
Panthers quarterback Bryce Young doubtful with a high ankle sprain.
He missed practice all week. Andy Dalton due to start.
Quarterback Lamar Jackson of the Ravens practice fully today. He's
listed as questionable with the bad hamstring he's been out
a month. Eagles wide receiver Aj Brown out this weekend
hamstring injury. He hasn't practiced all week, and wide receiver
for the Texans Nico Collins out with a concussion. There
(32:40):
was some college football tonight, double overtime. Virginia Tech has
beaten Cow forty two to thirty four. North Texas was
actually trailing early at Charlotte, but beat him fifty four
to twenty Yes, six hundred yards passing on the winging
side Charlotte. That was one of the big North Carolina
Tar Heels wins for Belichick. Charlotte ze one and seven
this year. And halftime Boise State.
Speaker 4 (33:03):
Steve just opened that door on him as he drove back.
Speaker 1 (33:06):
Yeah, wow, oh that looked awful painful when you ran
into that. You're okay there, thank you, Steve. Uh So,
look there we go a huge night in the in
Major League Baseball. Obviously, Game one of the World Series
goes to the Blue Jays and and Addison Barger again.
You watch baseball for long enough, you still see things
(33:28):
you never seen before. First ever pinchhit grand slam in
World Series history, and Barger the first person to hit
a home run a grand Slam in their first World
Series played appearance. Most likely is the answer. We just
found out Jose Canseco again because I had that memory
hit by a pitch and then he hit a Grand
Slam and it turned out to be right, because you
know that's how I roll. But uh, nobody's ever done
(33:50):
that first at bat ever in a in a World series,
first ever World Series at bat. Addison Barger has become
an absolute legend bludgeoning the Dodgers and the Blue Jays
now have a one game to non lead in the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (34:03):
Is his image on a bank note or a coin, Yes, because.
Speaker 1 (34:08):
You know, like I think does all does a Canadian
money all just have like stickers on it and stuff
and everything like like it still does.
Speaker 4 (34:13):
Right, Yeah, it looks like stuff you slap on a passport.
Speaker 1 (34:17):
Yeah, I kind of like that. I kind of liked that.
There's stickers, there's different stickers on it, and it's shiny,
and it's like, yeah, it's a Canadian money kind of
looks like, you know, with one of your kids, little
like decorating stuff. I'm gonna put this sticker right here,
and this here's a unicorn sticker on here, and here's
a start.
Speaker 4 (34:31):
If you then distress it a little bit, you can
say it is high level art. What are you talking about?
Speaker 1 (34:35):
But you need your own Addison Barger currency like this,
like it has to replace everything, like replace the looney
with with Addison Barger whatever.
Speaker 4 (34:43):
If you want to replace.
Speaker 1 (34:45):
They still use the looney they still use I think
they I think they still use looney, right, trying to
remember every now that everything is is is uh, you know,
no one uses cash anymore. I don't know, it's just
too bad a couple of years ago. Yeah, I don't.
Speaker 4 (34:59):
Know a cash kind of guy myself.
Speaker 1 (35:02):
You're the guy that walks in and they pick a
U dollar. We we only take we only take cards
and Venmo and zeld. Do you have any of those things? Sir?
Speaker 6 (35:12):
Yeah, but we've talked about it, right, it prevents uh,
employee theft, shrinkage, and maybe fewer breakings and burglaries.
Speaker 1 (35:19):
I don't know, does it does it? Does it prevent
employee theft when they could just take your cash and
put it in their pocket?
Speaker 2 (35:24):
No?
Speaker 6 (35:24):
No, no, But that's my point is that by going cash lists,
you do that however, and this is good for your
local municipality. That means that more sales are actually tracked
than Hey, I gave you, uh, I don't know, a
plate of food and you didn't have to report it.
Speaker 1 (35:43):
Excellent out about a Fresca exit swollen dome. Jason Smith

Speaker 1 (36:25):
Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon, your selfish bastard, the two biggest stories
of sports right now. Game one of the World Series.
What is happening right now in the Los Angeles? No,
not Dodger fans getting really nervous. Luka Dantic midway through
the third quarter has thirty six points for the Lakers
(36:47):
there on top of the Tea Wolves eighty seven, eighty two.
This was the kind of night I had in mind.
Mike Cardo. By the way, if you don't have streaming, yeah,
good luck again Friday night.
Speaker 2 (36:59):
Baby.
Speaker 1 (37:00):
We told you this is NBA, right, this is this
is the new World. This is the kind of game
I envisioned when I said, Hey, without Lebron, Luca is
going to just carry and pull and drag and yank
the Lakers to victories all by himself, just like he
did with the Mavericks. That's what this game looks like,
(37:20):
where Luca and and a Lakers lineup that just looks
like a bunch of guys, right, like you know, eight
and has been just okay so far, you know, but
Hatcha Morris somehow has found a way to make some shots,
and Austin Reeves has made a couple of shots. But
this is it looks like Luca when he was with
a bunch of guys in Dallas. That's kind of what
this game looks like. But again what I expected to see. Okay,
(37:41):
this is Luca, new deal, new situation. Here he is
now skinny Luca. This is what I expected. This is
what we're getting from Luka doncon Yeah.
Speaker 6 (37:49):
I mean we've always talked about DeAndre Ayton going back
many years of killer instinct, big size, but big moments
not there for you. Injury history certainly part of it.
Hachimura looks to be that number two right now in
terms of the packing orders you alluded to seven to
ten Tonight hit a couple of shots in game one,
(38:10):
but it's the same thing. He comes onto the scene,
has some big minutes, and just as quickly as he
explodes offensively, he'll disappear for a bit. You get a
bit from Austin Reeves. I just fear this isn't sustainable.
Right if we start talking about, you know, Lebron missing
extended time and we're talking into November towards the holiday
holiday holiday, maybe unwrap him as a Christmas gift.
Speaker 4 (38:33):
I don't know, but.
Speaker 6 (38:34):
All of that to say, what's Luca going to have
left if he's got to carry this kind of load
all the way through? So I mean that's a bit
of a concern. So marveling at it watching it. Really
missed opportunity though, If you're on Prime and you're watching
this game, yeah, you got the logo in the upper right,
where the hell are my deals that you should be
sending me to right now?
Speaker 4 (38:54):
You can get ten.
Speaker 6 (38:56):
Dollars off this extra large thing of detergent. I mean,
come on, missed opportunities man, Sell, Sell, I'm a captive audience.
Speaker 1 (39:07):
We'll keep you updated on this story as it evolves again,
still a long way to go here. Midway through the
third quarter, Luca on pace for what could be and
should be a fifty point night. Meanwhile, Game one of
the World Series goes to the Blue Jays eleven to four.
They rerupt, knocking Blake Snell out of the game after
he loads the base in the six doesn't matter. Addison
Barger comes off the bench, pinch hits a Grand Slam
(39:30):
home run. You got another home run from Alejandro Kirk
and suddenly the Blue Jays have hammered their way to
a one game to non lead in the World Series.
And I am from the future. I am from I
don't know winning lottery numbers. I am from the future
where I can tell you about sports. What did I
tell you last week? My big concern for the Dodgers
(39:50):
was they're going to get a bounce in the pitching department.
They're not going to pitch like they did in the
NLCS against the Brewers. It's just kno gonna happen. They
remind me of the me in twenty fifteen where the
Mets went hot knife through butter through the Cubs in
the NLCS. They didn't quite get that pitching performance in
the World Series and the Royals won, right, And what
did we get tonight? Blake Snell right away has a
(40:12):
rough first inning but escapes without giving up runs, but
still a twenty nine pitch first inning. He doesn't get
out of six, He loads the base with nobody out.
The Dodgers' bullpen can't get it done. And here's that.
I so, what do I say that We're not gonna
see the end of the playoffs without the Dodger bullpen
saying We're gonna have a say in this. We're gonna
have a say in what happens. And I don't mean
from a positive perspective for the Dodgers, like we're gonna
(40:33):
have a say in this and eleven four is your final.
That's the thing. Dodgers gotta mash their way if they're
gonna if they're gonna win this series, the pitching is
gonna get I mean, maybe not like this every night obviously,
but they're gonna get a pitching bounce. You saw Snell
got the bounce tonight. They had to go to the bullpen.
The bullpen was terrible, and here you have it. I
am from the future.
Speaker 6 (40:52):
Yeah, I mean the statsaid Steve Broadus. You know, you
out slug your opponent. What is a twenty twenty six
to five or whatever is the record if you out
home or your opponent playing station to stage is a
bad base running and they had the opportunity. You Sevenge
only went four, but they let them off the hook
in two of those innings, so you're looking at the
opportunities were there. We talked a little bit about the
(41:16):
absence of Vessia, a guy that you relied on for
sixty seven sixty eight appearances this year in the regular season.
That's an absence that when you get into those middle innings,
they're gonna have to figure out how to navigate that.
But certainly here a lot of clenching in Dodgerville.
Speaker 1 (41:34):
Yeah, this is all of a sudden Game two becomes
a must win for the Dodgers to try to get
back in the series. Control it coming back to La
but again gonna have to Mash can't count with the
starting pitching to carry in. We got more on Game
one of the World Series, What's next, how much trouble
the Dodgers in MLB Network insider John Paul Morosi joins
