Bowl games, say, even though they were mostly meaningless, had
to start with Miami at Ohio State. We'll go through
the other games for tomorrow, uh in a little bit,
because we got a lot a lot of coaching rumors
in the NFL. I don't know if you saw the

was it uh Stefanski and that if he gets fired,
that the Browns would be interested in getting McDaniel from
the Miami Dolphins. And well, you know, we'll touch on
all that, but first Miami wins it to beat Ohio
State VJ. To me, this is a colossal screwp by
Ohio State. This is a major upset.

It was a ten point line.
Speaker 4 (05:08):
No way Ohio State should have watched this game, no
matter how bad Ryan Day, you know, called the game.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
And I never thought.

That Miami, if they did win a game like this,
it was gonna be a low scoring game. I thought
if Miami would have to pull off the upset, it'd
be like thirty four thirty one, and they just got
hot and Beck took him apart. But that's not what happened.
He didn't have a great game on their one hundred
and fifty yards. If you told me that would have happened,

I said, well, they lost. They couldn't keep up with
Ohio State. I don't know what the fans are gonna
say about Ryan Day. Obviously it's gonna start all over again.
How you know this guy can't lead him to a championship?
He has once, so you know, I think it's just
the Buckeye fans living in a bad moment right now.

bad loss for the Ohio State buckets.

get them and keep them off your quarterback. That's why

They ran the ball Miami did thirty seven times. They
only told their quarterback to throw it twenty six times,
and he was nineteen or twenty six. Very efficient. Get
the ball out quick against this NFL style defense that
I mentioned.

And also Monty and I were talking during a commercial
break to pick six. That's called film watching that kid
that coin. He watched that play one hundred times in
the last eleven days. I guarantee it. He watched it
over and over and over and over. And when he
saw it, he said, I'm taking this to the house.
But Julian's saying, you have to check that corner. He

never checks the corner they see. If the corner backs out,
he just turns and he already made his mind up,
Arnie where he was going with the ball. That is
a critical quarterback mistake. Don't already have your mind made up.
That's what held too it back this year. I know
we'll get to some NFL stuff later in the show, right,
but you can't have your mind made.

If you see something you don't like, you gotta be
quick enough to pull that back and then go to
your second rate. He just turns and throws it. Go
look at the play. He never checks the corner. In
the corner takes a house the pick six.

So Miami really with seventeen points. If you would have
told me Miami could only put seventeen points offensively, I'm like, well,
they're gonna lose forty thirteen.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
Yeah, they're gonna lose eighty seventeen. That's what I would
have thought.
Speaker 5 (08:54):
Twenty eight, thirty to seventeen because, as you mentioned earlier
in this show, Ohio State's defense hadn't given him more
twenty points all year long until tonight.
Speaker 4 (09:03):
Well twenty four, but yeah, seven came on the pick six.
It was Ohio State's offense. They were not to be found.
At least in the first they were getting clobbed. They
moved it in the second, but they were no points
to show for it, and then they came out like
gang busters in the third. By then, though, when it
was fourteen to seven, they let Miami moved the ball
down get some points, and they could never really get

back into it. Even though it was seventeen to fourteen
and it was in the fourth. They couldn't get that
ball back when it was that sixth minute mark right there.
Great job, great play calling by Miami to make sure
that they didn't have to give the ball back in
a compromising situation. This is a stunning upset VJ. Absolutely stunning.

I didn't see this one happening. I thought Ohio State
had this game every which way, even if they didn't
cover the ten points spread.
Speaker 3 (09:53):
I didn't expect them to lose this game. VJ. Well, yeah,
I don't know how stunning the upset it is.
Speaker 5 (09:58):
I know people would pick ten points. Yeah, I took
my wife to spread game. I didn't like to spread
at Miami to cover. But that text you earlier, give
me the canes straight up, Like I was just taking
the cane straight up because in these type of Bowl games,
I like defense more than offensive stars because defense travels
and your offense can be off. It's like in the NBA, right,
if you have a top ten defense, that's for eighty
(10:19):
two games, right, But.
Speaker 3 (10:20):
Offenses can come. You could just have a night where
you just can't hit a shot. Right.
Speaker 5 (10:24):
Some nights Steph goes three or twelve from three, correct,
And then some nights, he goes eight to fourteen, he's
probably gonna have more than eight to fourteen.
Speaker 3 (10:31):
Than nine to fifteen nights.
Speaker 5 (10:33):
But if he ever has one of those two for
fourteen nights from three in a game five where series
is tied at two, do you think Golden State's gonna
win that game?
Speaker 3 (10:42):
Probably not so.
Speaker 5 (10:43):
In football, I like to look at that as far
as being able to run the football and defense. Always
say this about football, two things travel no matter where
you play a running game in defense, indoor, outdoor, sleek, hot, humid, snow,
rang don't matter. If I can run the ball, I
can run the ball if I have a great defense.
I got a great defense that goes anywhere. And they

took their running game and they took their defense to
the common ball. They took it to take look think
about it. Then this team just went at Texas A
and M, a team that people thought was the best
team in the nation right there with Ohio in.
Speaker 3 (11:16):
A very hostile environment, and that's time right and beat
them and beat them.
Speaker 5 (11:21):
But to go back to that last drive, that's that's
beating the team against their will.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
Something you're someplace hockey, you're big.
Speaker 5 (11:27):
You guys are big hockey guys out there, and you're
and your son if he can feel this, and you're
a hockey guy, you can feel this.

what's coming and there's nothing you can do about it.

But I binge Game of Thrones after it was over,

a little bit for not watching Game of.

I did just finish Sopranos and I got to like
season four sand Sons of Anarchy, So I did pick
those up.

Good, Yeah, I did pick those up. So to answer
your question real quick, Stranger Things is worth it. Really,
there's a reason to binge it if you do watch
it with an open mind and digest the purpose of
what it's trying to portray. The finale, I understand why
everybody's hyped for it because they've built up so well,
better deliver.

Okay, well that's why. And the other one I keep
hearing about squit of the Games.

I haven't seen that. Okay, well I love that. Do

My wife thinks it's just way too dark, and it

the quarterfinals. The atmosphere was so electric in the first round.
Games would have loved the scene games. I'm the home

I said last hour that I get rid of the
bowl games. You can't get rid of those that maybe
you could use it later on. I just don't think
it serves a purpose anymore.

It does like the cotton first of all, that the
Cotton Bowl is a big bowl. It may not be
the rose, may not be the sugar or the orange.
I think the Fiesta's right there with it, But that
the Cotton Bowl. You go back to the sixties and seventies. Man,
when like Oklahoma, Nebraska and Tom Osbourne and those guys
were killing people in the Cotton Bowl SMU, you know
with with their team that they had back to the
day with Eric Dickerson and Craig James and those guys

you know you used to want to get to because
it's in Texas, it's in Dallas.

Dallas is a big city. Ask your question, you kids,
take that was tonight the Cotton Bowl? Oh wait wait

say that our listeners right now will go with me
and say, no, man, that's still the Rose Bowl is
because they're gonna say the Rose Bowl prevented by such
and such as such, this is the college football. They're
going to start the broadcast off by saying, like, right now,
if you look on the screen on your computer ont
ESPN dot com and says college football playoff quarterfinal at

the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic, right, Like, it's still the
it's still the Cotton Bowl.

Clubs right, it's still the Cotton Bowl. But I don't
consider it the bowl game.

Like you mentioned, well you had like ten years ago
fifty which is why, which is why I said, let's
get rid of the bowl games. Let's have back on
the home sites for the quarterfinals.

It would have been electric.

Matter of fact, I'd have home sites for all the
games except for the championship.

You just have to send other teams to go play
those bowl games.

But do you think the Orange Bowl or do you
think the Tostitos people of the Fiesta Bowl. You think
that CEO wants Tulane in SMU in that game.

He wants Ohio State versus Alabama or Michigan versus Texas
like he wants that game there because that's going to
bring in the advertising dollars, in the advertising money. So
the ball games aren't going anywhere, Arnie. You always want
to get rid of something. Man, you talked about a
one day in preseason in the NFL.

Not that I want to get rid of it. I

always thought, once he took the team over, the one
thing I give Urban Meyer and right a big Urban
Meyer fan, the one thing I give him know is
that when he coached Ohio State, they were physically tough.

He put some guys in the NFL in that front
seven on the offensive line year in and year out.

I always felt and Ryan, they took it over. They tried.
They became a pretty team. Like what are they known for?

Their wide receiver you right, look at all the wide
receiver right all their wide receivers that are in the NFL.
I thought the same thing happened to LSU when Saban
was there, when Les Miles was there. They were physical, attacking, running,
physical upfront teams. Then they started throwing the ball around
a lot. They became more pretty. So you get a
number one overall picking Joe Burrow at the quarterback position.

You start to throw a bunch of receivers in the league,
and then they were being called wide receiver you. But
sooner or later, what happens. The toughness went away. They
weren't winning the big games. They were still winning ten
eleven games, but they weren't winn national championships anymore, and
they weren't going far as far and winning their bowl
games and things of that nature. I'm seeing the same
thing with Ohio State. They just look like a pretty
and a finesse team other than the power Big ten

that we're used to seeing. And that's why he loses
games like this, puts up fourteen points, all.

Right, We're gonna go through the other three games.
Speaker 4 (22:36):
I just wanted to finish up what we talked about
before we went to the break, where and I guess
a couple of the listeners are like, no, leave them alone,
leave the balls the way they are. Gunner says, it's
the Cotton Bowl. Nothing changes. Bowl games are memorable. No
Bowl games leave. It's not that I want things to leave, VJ.
But things do change. Like we're having a playoff and
now we're gonna go sooner or later, it's gonna go

to a six to twenty four and I think we'll
stop at twenty four for a while. And I'm okay
with all that because things change, and I'd like to
have more teams involved in the playoff system.

That's why I think we have to mix it up
a little bit. We don't have to.

anything like that. We have a playoff, call it what
you want, round one, round two, like we do in

some coaches opting out because there might be some some
paramoil there. They might be looking for a new job.
But like I said, these teams are still fielding players.
They're still putting players. Have you let me ask you
a question, how many boll games? Just estimate y'all don't
know if you know the exact number. How many Bowl
games have you watched this year?

Yes, I would say I probably watched about half of that.

Okay, you're telling me these games haven't been competitive. You're
telling me these kids haven't been playing hard out here.
These coaches haven't been coaching. And when they win, the
joy and jubilation you see on their faces holding up
whatever trophy the game, you know, whatever trophy they win,
and when they even show during commercial break.

Week, when the team arrived, they they've been on the
community hunt too. So they went to the Cancer Research
Children's Hospital or the pinch stripe ball at Yankee Stadium.
Some of the players from I forget who played the

stock market? Like that's remember that kid would never be
able to do that, Arnie if he didn't play at

that school and they didn't go to that bowl.

And when you bring up some of that, I understand
and that that's nostalgic stuff, that it's part, it's part
of the process. But when I mean meaningless, like I
heard the guys talking about USC and TCU. First of all,
I've never heard of a game being broken down without
mentioning the winning team. In TCU, all I heard was
USC choked. How could they not have missed three tackles?

How could they give up third and twenty? How could
they do that? You would have you would against said
they didn't play anybody?

But yeah, so what because I mean I watched that,
But we don't break down the games.

Are we gonna bring up Tennessee, Illinois?

they were in the playoffs, we'd be bringing them up.

back to they didn't beat any top ranked teams in

Donovan Mitchell led the way with thirty four points. Bulls

The Wizards edged the Bucks one fourteen to one thirteen
despite thirty plus points from Giannis, and the thunder Cruise

passed the Trailblazers one twenty four to ninety five. Steph
Curry had twenty six points. The Warriors outscored the Hornets
won thirty two to one twenty five, and the Hawks
topped the Timberwolves one twenty six to one oh two.
Not sure if you guys saw this, but Anthony Edwards
with like seven minutes left in the fourth quarter left
the bench because he was mad that coach Finch benched
all the starters.

of the plane had a lot of Indiana Hoosier fans on.

of things knowing that there's a bunch of fans on

Indiana and Bama fans have been out here for about

Yeah, unfortunately, they're gonna get bad weather. We never have
bad weather on New Year's in southern Californaforia, had not
since I've been here. I've been here twenty years a
couple of years ago. But just like a drizzle or something.
But other than that, never get rains like this. Like
I was watching on TV, it looks like it's what
rating right.

Now, rizz It's nasty and it's and it's that kind
of and I'm in the valley right now, so you
kind of getting flooding too, because it's a valley, right
so when the rain dumps in here, the draining system
isn't the best. It is like back East, where you
don't never really worry about flood unless you go down south.
But uh, it's a I just hope it doesn't affect
the game.

So you get to this game tomorrow. They haven't played

month since they've played.

State VJ. To me, this is a colossal screwp by
Ohio State. This is a major upset.

No way Ohio State should have watched this game, no
matter how bad Ryan Day, you know, called the game.

And I never thought.

That Miami, if they did win a game like this,
it was gonna be a low scoring game. I thought
if Miami would have to pull off the upset, it'd
be like thirty four thirty one, and they just got
hot and Beck took him apart. But that's not what happened.
He didn't have a great game on their one hundred
and fifty yards. If you told me that would have happened,

I said, well, they lost. They couldn't keep up with
Ohio State. I don't know what the fans are gonna
say about Ryan Day. Obviously it's gonna start all over again.
How you know this guy can't lead him to a championship?
He has once, so you know, I think it's just

break to pick six. That's called film watching that kid

the last eleven days. I guarantee it. He watched it

But Julian's saying, you have to check that corner. He

never checks the corner they see. If the corner backs out,
he just turns and he already made his mind up,
Arnie where he was going with the ball. That is
a critical quarterback mistake. Don't already have your mind made up.
That's what held too it back this year. I know

told me Miami could only put seventeen points offensively, I'm like, well,
they're gonna lose forty thirteen.

Yeah, they're gonna lose eighty seventeen. That's what I would

Twenty eight, thirty to seventeen because, as you mentioned earlier
in this show, Ohio State's defense hadn't given him more
twenty points all year long until tonight.
Speaker 4 (09:03):
Well twenty four, but yeah, seven came on the pick six.
It was Ohio State's offense. They were not to be found.
At least in the first they were getting clobbed. They
moved it in the second, but they were no points
to show for it, and then they came out like
gang busters in the third. By then, though, when it
was fourteen to seven, they let Miami moved the ball
down get some points, and they could never really get

back into it. Even though it was seventeen to fourteen
and it was in the fourth. They couldn't get that
ball back when it was that sixth minute mark right there.
Great job, great play calling by Miami to make sure
that they didn't have to give the ball back in
a compromising situation. This is a stunning upset VJ. Absolutely stunning.

I didn't see this one happening. I thought Ohio State
had this game every which way, even if they didn't
cover the ten points spread.

I didn't expect them to lose this game. VJ. Well, yeah,

I know people would pick ten points. Yeah, I took
my wife to spread game. I didn't like to spread

me the canes straight up, Like I was just taking
the cane straight up because in these type of Bowl games,
I like defense more than offensive stars because defense travels
and your offense can be off. It's like in the NBA, right,
if you have a top ten defense, that's for eighty

Offenses can come. You could just have a night where
you just can't hit a shot. Right.

Some nights Steph goes three or twelve from three, correct,
And then some nights, he goes eight to fourteen, he's

But if he ever has one of those two for
fourteen nights from three in a game five where series
is tied at two, do you think Golden State's gonna
win that game?

In football, I like to look at that as far
as being able to run the football and defense. Always
say this about football, two things travel no matter where
you play a running game in defense, indoor, outdoor, sleek, hot, humid, snow,
rang don't matter. If I can run the ball, I
can run the ball if I have a great defense.
I got a great defense that goes anywhere. And they

took their running game and they took their defense to
the common ball. They took it to take look think
about it. Then this team just went at Texas A
and M, a team that people thought was the best
team in the nation right there with Ohio in.

A very hostile environment, and that's time right and beat
them and beat them.

But to go back to that last drive, that's that's
beating the team against their will.

it with an open mind and digest the purpose of
what it's trying to portray. The finale, I understand why

Of course, I like seeing them getting their ass handed
to him like this tonight, scoring fourteen points from this
high powered offense. Because Ryan Day, who's such a great coach, Yes,
decided to have his quarterback through thirty five and only
must have forty three yards rushing on the ground. I
always thought, once he took the team over, the one
thing I give Urban Meyer and right a big Urban
Meyer fan, the one thing I give him know is
that when he coached Ohio State, they were physically tough.
Speaker 3 (21:36):
Like they were tough.

He put some guys in the NFL in that front
seven on the offensive line year in and year out.
Speaker 3 (21:41):
I always felt and Ryan, they took it over. They tried.
They became a pretty team. Like what are they known for?
Right now?
Speaker 5 (21:46):
Their wide receiver you right, look at all the wide
receiver right all their wide receivers that are in the NFL.
I thought the same thing happened to LSU when Saban
was there, when Les Miles was there. They were physical, attacking, running,
physical upfront teams. Then they started throwing the ball around
a lot. They became more pretty. So you get a
number one overall picking Joe Burrow at the quarterback position.
(22:08):
You start to throw a bunch of receivers in the league,
and then they were being called wide receiver you. But
sooner or later, what happens. The toughness went away. They
weren't winning the big games. They were still winning ten
eleven games, but they weren't winn national championships anymore, and
they weren't going far as far and winning their bowl
games and things of that nature. I'm seeing the same
thing with Ohio State. They just look like a pretty
and a finesse team other than the power Big ten
(22:31):
that we're used to seeing. And that's why he loses
games like this, puts up fourteen points, all.
Speaker 3 (22:35):
Right, We're gonna go through the other three games.
Speaker 4 (22:36):
I just wanted to finish up what we talked about
before we went to the break, where and I guess
a couple of the listeners are like, no, leave them alone,
leave the balls the way they are. Gunner says, it's
the Cotton Bowl. Nothing changes. Bowl games are memorable. No
Bowl games leave. It's not that I want things to leave, VJ.
But things do change. Like we're having a playoff and
now we're gonna go sooner or later, it's gonna go

to a six to twenty four and I think we'll
stop at twenty four for a while. And I'm okay
with all that because things change, and I'd like to
have more teams involved in the playoff system.

That's why I think we have to mix it up
a little bit. We don't have to.

Use the capital one, the rolls or the sugar or
anything like that. We have a playoff, call it what
you want, round one, round two, like we do in
March Madness, the Sweet Sixteen, the Playing Game, the Thursday,
play the Tuesday. I don't care what you call it.

So I think we have to get rid of a

games have you watched this year?

stock market? Like that's remember that kid would never be

and that that's nostalgic stuff, that it's part, it's part
of the process. But when I mean meaningless, like I
heard the guys talking about USC and TCU. First of all,
I've never heard of a game being broken down without
mentioning the winning team. In TCU, all I heard was
USC choked. How could they not have missed three tackles?

How could they give up third and twenty? How could
they do that? You would have you would against said
they didn't play anybody?

But yeah, so what because I mean I watched that,
But we don't break down the games.

Yeah, unfortunately, they're gonna get bad weather. We never have

But other than that, never get rains like this. Like
I was watching on TV, it looks like it's what
rating right.

Now, rizz It's nasty and it's and it's that kind
of and I'm in the valley right now, so you
kind of getting flooding too, because it's a valley, right
so when the rain dumps in here, the draining system
isn't the best. It is like back East, where you
don't never really worry about flood unless you go down south.

I don't see this game be affected by weather tomorrow.

Ohio State. But we saw what Ohio State was tonight. Right,
So you get to this game tomorrow. They haven't played

in a month. Man, It's it's been almost a good
month since they've played.

Harney, Yeah, yeah, matter of fact, what will do is
