Again on YouTube at Jason Smith Show, where maybe maybe
I'll do my own statue instead of Tom Brady. The
(01:12):
Tom Brady Statue. That's so great. I'll do my own
statue with Tom Brady. I'll make sure it's inflated as
much as it can be to the point where it's
gonna explode and his.
Speaker 3 (01:20):
Head pops off. Maybe I'll have that statue happen there
it is, let it out.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
He wants to insert that anger out getting a statue
and insulting the Jets. Yeah, gohah, okay, Brady, that's great,
that's great. Hell what Jane Fonda couldn't show up eighty
for Brady? Like I couldnt showup, couldn't show up and
dedicate that statute and it couldn't do that.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
Okay, that's great.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
Yeah, I'm gonna go and I'm gonna just rip the
Jets on it when I'm getting a statue.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
It's funny. She was actually just in the audience the
other night when they did Jesus Christ Superstar out at
the Hollywood Bowl. So there you go, Jane Fonda. She
with Tom Brady or no? Was she there? No, Tom Brady,
I don't believe was there.
Speaker 4 (01:57):
No?
Speaker 3 (01:57):
That was went back when he was running around on
the Raider stuff, and then he showed up in the
National Sports Collector's Convention. He's opening a string of trading
card shops, so he opened one across the street from Wrigley.
I mean there's a lot of stuff. He's attending to
a lot of business. He can't necessarily hang out with
Jane fond at any time she wants. By the way,
that movie is pretty good for those that haven't seen it,
(02:19):
would you say pretty good? Like what does it mean?
Like it means I'll watch it to the end, or
does it mean wow, I recommend this.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
I saw it in the theater. I enjoyed it. Jets
movies wouldn't Frostburg Jets movies. Something would happen to the
projector would never start, and they would say, thank you
for coming. Uh, we're not going to give you a
free past to a future movie. Just uh, we'll see it.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
Get out taste, I love.
Speaker 1 (02:44):
Corn nuts to braut in your face would stop in
the face.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
But that was a good setup and delivery right there.
You not only set it at the net Frostburg, you
spiked it yourself. I don't know that that's legal, but
as well, Oh that's good. No, that's good. I like that.
That's good. That's good. That's good.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
Uh hey, uh good, good luck on Sunday, guys may
say to yeah, that wasn't against us. That was that
was in a movie that doesn't Again, I didn't care.
Was not against us. That was Sean young Shawn ye.
Uh So, tonight we watched the debut of Shador Sanders
and terrific debut form two touchdowns.
Speaker 3 (03:30):
Uh, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
We talked a lot about what he did last hour
of the show that was so incredibly impressive. His presence
of mind, his instincts in the pocket, his toughness, delivering
the football preparedness, no reason to not let him continue
to run with the ones and and be the starting
quarterback for the Browns.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
Now.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
Doesn't mean he's got to stay the starting quarterback all
the way through, because I could come into August and
have him and have a measured right opinion about about
Shador Sanders, and it doesn't need to be get rid
of him, or it doesn't need to be he's gotta
be the unquestioned starter and cut everyone else. No, Hey,
he earned tonight one hundred and fifty percent the chance
to be in the pole position now to be the
(04:10):
starting quarterback of the Browns and le.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
Position that might be a bit you know, I said, well,
that still push back on that. I means you're running
with the ones. That means you're running with the ones.
Speaker 1 (04:20):
He's he's he's, he's in, he's in the he's in
the top spot. He's QB one for the for the
Browns right now. There's no reason why he shouldn't be.
You have a couple of guys that are hurting. Joe
Flacco is there. Okay, he's gonna play until we don't
want him to play anymore. Okay, maybe that doesn't happen
out of the gate, because maybe shud Or Sanders is
ready no reason why he can't get the first team
reps and runs the number one quarterback for a while.
(04:41):
I mean, you're gonna suddenly go back to Flacco, right,
I mean you're gonna gonna do that. You're not gonna
give it to either Kenny Pickett or or Dylan Gabriel.
Both those guys are hurt. And not that it not
not that it's something that is a uh an overarching
opinion that you should do it for this, but just
think about just think about this for a second. There
are times when you need to take into account the
(05:06):
optics and fall out from your team, the players and
your fan base. And if you suddenly go back, if
Kevin Stefans says, yeah, he was good, but we're gonna
do some things and Joe Flacco is gonna be our quarterback,
right and it's not it's not just gonna be the
uproar from the fans, it's gonna be players are going,
(05:28):
wait a minute, this kid just showed up and was
was cool under pressure and did everything you could ask him.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
And still they're not gonna let him be that.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
They're not gonna, you know, elevate him a little bit
in this in this quarterback situation, like that's that's that's time.
When you start losing people and and you know, losing
the fans just gets magnified. In my goodness, there would
be a riot if they did that and they came out.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
Of Can you imagine after this game? This looked like
a bleeping playoff game man.
Speaker 1 (05:52):
Social media was it was like the it was like,
here here's Shador sanders first start, and the Browns was like, hey,
here's our first playoff game in fifears. And you saw
the excitement of the fans that traveled, the excitement and
electricity Sanders brought to the NFL. It was the story
of the night tonight, his debut. He's the story of
training camp all throughout the National Football League, and here
(06:13):
he is playing terrific and earning the Can you imagine
the fallout if you come out and say, yeah, your
door was good, but you know, we got three other
guys that are really good, and no, no, no, I get
you think you have three other guys that are really good.
I watch a guy do it on the field. I
watch guy do a field against a lot of ones, right,
because Panthers had a lot of ones playing on that defense,
and he in the beginning it was game wasn't too
(06:35):
big for him. He made some good plays, made some
bad plays. Second quarter, he made tremendous amount of good plays.
He played well enough for this to happen. I can't
imagine the fallout. Sometimes you have to listen and think
about what's gonna happen. Well, how is our team? How
is our fan base? Because this is this does not
exist in a vacuum. This is if this doesn't if
this is a situation that goes a different way, and
(06:58):
Kevin Stefanski says, Okay, it's gonna be shod or Sanders
goes back to the fourth quarterback when guys get healthy.
I mean, that's gonna be that's it that you're you're
torpedoing the season before it begins. This is one of
those moments where, all right, the reaction of the team
and the fan base and basically all of Brown's Nation
has to kind of be taken into account here because
the electricity, the excitement, the relevance that he brought to
(07:20):
the team. You can't deny it. Can you imagine going
back and saying, Okay, no, Joe Flacco's our guy. No't
where you love Joe Flacco. Come on, he keep off
his couch, got us to the playoffs. You guys love
Joe Flacco. No, No, it's like that scene at Frankenstein
Love Me. There were torches. You're around Browns camp going, ah,
you thought we were mad when you cut Bernie Cozar
twenty five years ago. Oh wait, this happens now, that's
what it's gonna be in Browns camp.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
Man, If that happens, he'll get a ton of reps
next week as well. Quote from Kevin Stefanski postgame, Honestly,
I'm pleased with the way he'd played. I'm pleased with
the way the offense operated tonight. All things moving forward
as we continue to practice, will be focused on all
of our guys development.
Speaker 1 (07:59):
Yeah that's great, but somebody's got to run with the
ones and get those repsents.
Speaker 3 (08:03):
It should be Shador Sanders. No I and look, I
appreciate that whatever check they sent you is now cleared.
Uh you Sanders?
Speaker 1 (08:13):
I got I got nothing. I got nothing against the
Browns four. I have no dog in this fight. Except
I watched a young quarterback that was taken in the
draft show up in the first game and play extremely well.
And I guess his first game in the NFL. He
played well, He led the team to scores, He was dynamic,
and this is what this is all you want as
(08:35):
a fanday, hey we got a quarterback.
Speaker 3 (08:36):
Now, that's great, But I'm not listening to the fans
that are calling into a post team show to decide
whether this guy becomes the number one guy. Say that.
Speaker 1 (08:45):
I said, what's the reaction going to be if you could,
if you continue to keep Shador Sanders out, it's gonna
be an effect that's going to just ripple through the team.
Because again, stuff doesn't happen in a vacuum. Every day
they're gonna live in the world of Okay, Chador is
not the guy. And when you turn on a television,
that's all that's being talked about, turn on the radio,
(09:05):
all it's being talked about. Everything you read because the
guys get on social media.
Speaker 3 (09:09):
All the time. Why is it shaudor Sanders? The start
of what are they doing?
Speaker 1 (09:12):
Browns don't know when when you're when you're bombarded by
that negativity and the question, whether it's the fan base
or in the locker or whatever.
Speaker 3 (09:20):
That's not good for you, man, That's not good for
your mental health.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
That's good for anybody trying to get excited about the
start of a season, because at this point now you're
just saying, Okay, how long is it until Shador Sanders plays? Like, okay,
may maybe before this it would be week four, maybe
week five. Now it's okay, now he should be playing
right away. But I'm enough to say, let him run
with it for now in August and see where we're
(09:44):
at as long as he shows that he's continuing to grow.
And this is without a lot of reps, right, this
is without a lot of first team reps. Suddenly it
was Hey, everybody else is hurt, you're gonna start like
I mean, I get Stefanski in public tapping the brakes,
but if behind closed doors he's not. Hey, let's go forth, Shador.
Let's ramp him up. Let's let him play with the
ones this week. Let's let you know, we can talk.
(10:05):
I'll talk about it in practice. Okay, we have a
lot of guys getting back, and we have guys that
are hurt. Joe Flacco doesn't need the reps. Chador needs
the rep sense. It's an easy thing to be able
to handle throughout the course of the week. Right, you know, Hey,
you know Joe's been around, it's his eighteenth year in
the league.
Speaker 3 (10:18):
He's fine.
Speaker 1 (10:19):
We're gonna give Shador the reps. And yes, we'll get
Kenny back in, We'll get Dylan back in when they're healthy.
Everything's gonna be fine. But hey, Shador was great. Gonna
give him a chance to run with it a little bit.
Now like that, I don't see how anywhere else you
have any choice but that after tonight, I don't know
how you go back and say, yeah, that was great. Yeah,
but no, you're going back. You're the fourth guy. Now,
wait what Yeah, you're the fourth guy. But and I'm
(10:39):
even behind Huntley. You're behind him too. Yeah, that's fine,
you're actually the fifth guy.
Speaker 3 (10:43):
You're Franklin.
Speaker 1 (10:44):
Okay, you're you're the fan. You're the fifth of the
Fantastic five. You've gone from being Johnny Storm and now
you're Franklin. But Franklin's the most powerful. Yeah, but he's
still a kid, and it's still a Fantastic four, and
it's he's just Frankly, he's just a kid. He's not
even an actor. It's all these other rude You got
Pedro Pascali and all these other bads. Everything's great, Vanessa
Herbian you got you got the guy from you got
Eddie Munson, and oh it's fine. You would turn him
(11:05):
back into Franklin.
Speaker 3 (11:07):
I'm just not looking to canonize him after It was
a nice effort. It was, there's no question about it.
But suddenly to say play and and they he vaults
to the number one spot. Because the fans are gonna
be upset. They're Cleveland fans. They've been mad and they'd
still been showing up all these years. It doesn't matter.
You gotta do it's right to day.
Speaker 1 (11:29):
It's not just because the it not just because all
the fans want but can you imagine what the reaction
is going to because all of that is part of it, all,
part of of of of NFL in August is about
getting ready and starting the season with excitement, having the
team buy in. And if the fans aren't aren't buying
in in there, that's gonna creep into everybody's heads as
(11:50):
well and it becomes a thing. Right I'm saying, hey,
because the fans want it, but just think of what
the reaction would be. And you'd be coming at this
season from a negative perspective if you don't say, all right, shooters,
Because and obviously, and he's earned the chance to be
the Has he earned the chance to get more reps
than Kenny Pickett and Dylan Gabriel because of what he's
done with the Browns? Yes, has he won the right
(12:10):
to have more reps than Joe Flacco? Okay, you can
argue that, but Joe Flacco was in his eighteenth year.
You know he's not the future. If Joe Flacco was
brought in to be the quarterback for the Browns this
year in the future, I would say, okay, hey, now
you know you got Sanders.
Speaker 3 (12:22):
He's battling with Sanders.
Speaker 1 (12:24):
But you know what it is, right, I mean like,
it wouldn't make any sense not to say, hey, we're
gonna let you run with the ones and see how
you handle us it give it to you a little
bit at the time. That's that's my point with.
Speaker 3 (12:32):
That, Jason, Yes, what you got Frostburg. Speaking of Joe
Flacco real quick, did you happen to see his interview
on the sideline with Addy Kinky Babla. Yes, I did
watch when it would literally look like he was Andre
the Giant. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (12:50):
Well, she said I think I think you've been getting
taller and I'm not, and he goes, yeah, I think
so maybe, and he said like, do you think I've
been getting shorter?
Speaker 3 (12:58):
And he said, like, I don't know, seven four to three.
It was really awkward off the top right there. Would Yeah,
I feel like she's I feel like I've been getting
the cameraman is horrible. Cameraman might not be good, angled bad.
Didn't frame that understatement, didn't get her a phone book
or two. I mean, there's a lot of ways you
(13:19):
can mask these things. You needed a couple of phone
books there, well, Trudell's got them.
Speaker 1 (13:24):

a you know, we talked a lot about your door
Sanders so far, but look three games tonight in the NFL,
(15:55):
and yes, we had a good report from Monoris.
Speaker 3 (15:58):
Of the Lions.
Speaker 1 (15:59):
He's got movement, he's talking, he's breathing. Dan Campbell with
a big update last hour on the show. When we
learn more, we will bring it to you again. That
game cut short after the scary injury that Norris had
early in the fourth quarter, but good update from the
hospital for him. But you know, a couple other games tonight,
and boy, the first thing I'm gonna say is this,
(16:21):
it's it's day one of the preseason, and obviously you
know you didn't play your starters, but I still think
it was a bit of a surprise to see. Wow,
they dedicated the statue for Tom Brady and it was
twenty seven to three at halftime. It looked like it
looked like Patriots commanders from like twenty ten, Like this
is an absolute blowout with guys like Josh Dobbson and
(16:44):
Ben Woolridge playing most of the game. Drake May had
a little bit of a cup of coffee and the
Patriots put forty eight on the board to blow out
the Commanders forty eight eighteen.
Speaker 5 (16:54):
It's exactly like when Brady played the Jets back in
the day.
Speaker 3 (16:57):
Oh no, come on, man, come on, we're not scoring
eighteen that this game is fast for that's forty eight
to seven. Maybe that might be your average point total
per game this year we've talked about for the season.
Speaker 1 (17:08):
Mike, Yeah, that might be totally. That could be forty
eight three for you say, I think that. I think
that's how that's how it would go for eighteen, Like, wow,
eighteen points, that's pretty good. I mean that's how what
I mean this game started with Trayvon Henderson returning the
opening kickoff for a touchdown, and all of a sudden,
I mean, hey, I know a lot of attention has
(17:29):
been spent so far on the Jets and what their
running back situation is gonna be, like with Breise Hall
and and Brayln Allen and and obviously you're gonna get
a lot of running plays with justin fields. But man,
I'll tell you the Patriots with Henderson and Stevenson, I mean,
this is the they're gonna be carbon copies of it.
The Jets and the Patriots gonna be the exact same
teams this year, except Justin Fields will have more rushing
(17:51):
opportunities in rushing production than Drake maywill, and Drake May
will throw for more yards than than Justin Fields will.
But these teams, they're gonna play great defense. They have
young studs on the defense. These two teams were exactly
the same. And man, I'll tell you, Traveon Henderson, you
don't jump into the NFL better way than that with
a one hundred yard kickoff return the first time you
touched the football.
Speaker 3 (18:12):
Yeah. Guy, I've talked about a little bit in the
fantasy land. The good folks in Fantasy pros have been
leaning on me a little to give some hey guys
off the radar. Look. Romandre Stevenson had. He got his
deal last year, but he also had trouble holding onto
the football. I don't think that's gonna work in a
mic Verable lad era. So Henderson is a guy that
(18:35):
you know from the handcuff purposes, and the opportunity a
little later in the draft should probably get some run.
They are currently the second favorite in the AFCs, Bills obviously,
the prohibited favorite Patriots at plus five fifty, Dolphins and
whatever they become at plus nine hundred, and then your
(18:55):
Jets all the way down at plus nineteen hundred.
Speaker 1 (18:58):
Yeah, everybody just mad at the Jets, that's all. They're
mad at the Jets in the last two years for
them sucking when we thought they were gonna be great.
Speaker 3 (19:05):
So they're mad.
Speaker 1 (19:05):
So they're they're penalizing us by thinking we're a bad team.
I mean we I mean, look, I wasn't one of
those people that jumped on the the Aaron Rodgers is
leading us to the Promised Land pan.
Speaker 3 (19:16):
I get it.
Speaker 1 (19:16):
They're penalizing us. That's what That's what it is, that
they're penalizing us. It's okay, no, no, no, you're continuing to suck.
Nothing's really changed except the names on top of the marquee.
Speaker 3 (19:27):
It's first of all, says the Bears fan.
Speaker 1 (19:28):
Secondly, it sounds it sounds better if I say they're
penalizing the Jets.
Speaker 3 (19:32):
It sounds like, oh, I'm sorry, Have I not been
trying to be the voice of reason with the Bears
when everybody's deified Ben Johnson, Caleb Williams and everybody else.
I think I've been a lone voice standing out in
the wilderness myself there. But but but the pictures could
be entertaining, and they've got a guy that's willing to
dive in and fight in the coach literally.
Speaker 1 (19:53):
Yeah, and look and you it's one thing to say, hey,
last year, was Stevenson gonna lose some carries to Antonio
Gibson versus Okay, yeah, Gibson's a serviceable running back, and
you know, he had a couple of nice years, but
he's not someone that's coming and gonna take anybody's job.
Travon Henderson's coming in and take the job.
Speaker 3 (20:09):
Right.
Speaker 1 (20:09):
He had one carry tonight for eighteen yards right in
the opening. So it's gonna be one of those where, okay,
Ramandre will open and I see this kind of like
the Stevenson Henderson backfield. I kind of see like the
very beginning of the Lions backfield with Montgomery and Jamiir Gibbs,
where in the beginning it was, Okay, we want Jamir
(20:29):
Gibbs to be fresh down the stretch. So for the
first eight nine weeks, despite the fact that you know, look,
David Montgomery is fine, right, but he's much more of
a plotter. Okay, Jamiir Gibbs is so electric, he's so good,
he's so fast. Give him the football more. Hey, Dan
Campbell had a great plan. No, we want this guy
running the football great at the end of the season.
We don't want to burn him out as a rookie.
And what you saw as the season went on, Hey,
(20:52):
the load got a little bit more equal once you
got to week nine, week ten, week eleven, and clearly
now Gibbs is one of the top three running backs
in all of football. I kind of see the same
way with Stevenson and Henderson, where Stevenson's still young enough
and and you know, as long as he holds onto
the football, that will be the division of labor. But
as the season goes on, they'll lean on Henderson more.
(21:13):
And I wouldn't be surprised if he's their lead running
back by the middle of the Like you get to
like week nine, week ten with Henderson and he's the guy.
Speaker 3 (21:20):
No, and that's it. And but even last year, I
mean we take it with a grain of salt, because
you know, Montgomery was banged up and missed the final
weeks of the seasons. So you know some of the
fantasy bounty that you got from Gibbs, Well, it helps
when the other guy's not there in ten touches. But
(21:40):
the point is well taken though, is that you know
you'll you'll see a more equitable split and again the tolerance.
Look the it's razor thin, right. This is a team
that could win win a few games, the Patriots, they're
on the short list of all right, teams that could
could come up a bit from the lows of the
(22:01):
last couple of years. But you know, the margin of victory.
It's not like they're gonna go run away and hide
on anybody. So every turnover, every negative play is gonna
be magnified. So any of what Stevenson did a year
ago gets him deposed pretty fast.
Speaker 1 (22:16):
Now the other side of it, yes, the commanders got
killed and they were down early, and the Terry McLaurin
situation is just just hanging over the team. I know
they lost tonight, I know it seems like it's a
big deal. I'm still not worried. I'm not worry If
they play without Terry McLaurin, they will be absolutely fine.
I'm not worried about them. They have the numbers to
(22:38):
figure it out without him, whether it's Debo getting getting
a little bit more attention, whether it is Luke McCaffrey
maybe busting through in year two. I know people thought
Luke McCaffrey was was gonna be the same player as
Lad McConkey, and okay, not really, but maybe year two.
Is it only because they can flight the names?
Speaker 3 (22:56):
And yeah, you know, yeah mcau yeah, And I'm sure
people thought, oh and Phil McConkie. No, no, no, no, no, nice. Okay,
I'm not there, but there are numbers. Ill.
Speaker 1 (23:05):
Look and Noah Brown is out now too, and you know,
and he's he's very serviceable. But look, Jayden Daniels is
a top five quarterback in the NFL for reason. I
mean top five because he makes everybody around him better.
He's one of the He's one of the top five
guys in the NFL that does that. Not many people do, right,
Mahomes does it, Josh Allen does it, Burrow does it,
(23:27):
he does it, Lamar Jackson does it. There's not many
guys like that, and he's in the top five. So, yeah,
are you gonna miss McLaurin. I'll miss his touchdowns? I mean,
because really that's what it is.
Speaker 3 (23:37):
Because for his.
Speaker 1 (23:37):
Whole career, mclaurin's been good but not great, and he
wants thirty million dollars a year like he's, Hey, I'm
Garrett Wilson. After my first couple of years of catching
one hundred passes from guys that absolutely suck, I want
that kind of money. Well, hang on a second, you're
gonna be thirty and you still have never had a
truly great You had a great touchdown year, And I'm
not saying that's not valuable, because it is, but that's
(23:59):
not third plus million dollars a year valuable. The commanders
will find out with the numbers they have they will
get along just fine without him, because Daniels is that
rare guy, as good as he was last year as
a rookie, now coming into year two where even he
said earlier in camp, hey, I feel so much better.
It's night and day for me from last year to
this year, which you get guys say I'm waiting for
one guy to say, oh no, just as tough this
(24:21):
year as last year.
Speaker 3 (24:22):
It's not night and day.
Speaker 1 (24:23):
But still coming into your second year being that good, Yeah,
I'm not worried about the commanders. They'll figure things out,
they'll get healthy. And if mclaurin's there, great, and if not,
it's not gonna be suddenly where boy, the commanders can't
score and suddenly Jayden Daniels is terrible. He makes everybody better.
They will find a way. It'll be just fine, even
if he sits out or if they have to trade him.
Speaker 3 (24:44):
Yeah, I mean you get into the question of health
for some of the principals, right, zach Ertz as long
in the tooth as he is. I mean, we've had
retirement questions of the past. You look at Deebo Samuel
and being able, how are you deploying him when he's
peaked Debo It's not Hey, he's just a wide receiver, right.
(25:04):
It's about carries and trying to be judicious and smart
about that. And you've got a couple of running backs
that you like a bunch. And for the rest of
the receiving cords, they're guys. Can they be elevated to
a level of greatness that remains to be seen? So
I'm not the biggest Terry McLaurin guy. As you know,
this guy should be paid as a top five. I
(25:24):
don't know that he's that guy. Right. His touchdown total
last year was by far the highest that we've seen.
It's nearly double his career best, which happened as a
rookie in twenty nineteen. Otherwise, the rest of the numbers
were just in line with everything else he's done, so
they were better in the red zone. Okay, that probably
gets deployed to other guys too, because McLaurin probably faces
(25:48):
more coverage and Daniels will check down into another option,
would be my guest. So that touchdown thirteen total of
the year ago, that's an outlier by far. So now
it's a question of, you know, what does he mean
between the twenties and keeping the line moving? Can you
replace that and Daniels in year two? How much does
(26:10):
he do that? Because if you're looking to pay top
of market, which is what McLaurin wants, I think it
hamstrings everything else you're trying to do. And then trying
to think that debo is gonna be retro debo three
years ago is also a tall order. But here you go,
Cliff Kingsbury, you got through a second half of the
season for the first time in your coaching life where
(26:32):
it didn't blow up on you. What do you do
for an Encore.
Speaker 1 (26:36):
Exit out about a Fresco exit Swallen Dome, Jason Smith,
Mike Harmon, Now the other story from tonight and who
I am in on and I'm buying on for this year.
I am in on Bryce Young, I am buying on him,
and I'm buying on Tedoro McMillan being the next great
superstar wide receiver in the NFL. Like watching this kid
(26:58):
in Arizona the last few years. I mean, not a
lot of people got to see him because oviously, it's
Arizona football.
Speaker 3 (27:03):
It's on late at night. Mike and I always say, we.
Speaker 1 (27:05):
Watched the PAC twelve or what passed for the PAC twelve,
so you don't have to ye you saw tonight he
had that He had the one big catch down the sideline.
Speaker 3 (27:12):
H Bryce Young threw a touchdown and in very an
abbreviated play tonight in the game.
Speaker 1 (27:19):
The Panthers lost to the Browns, but Dave Kanalis kind
of has a pretty decent beginning going there, right from
last year what he built up, and Bryce Young was
tremendously better a year ago than he was as a
rookie when it looked like he was lost, and maybe
he's gonna be someone that like Josh Rosen, that starts
one year and then that's it. I can see Bryce
(27:40):
Young and and look, Xavier Legett gets thrown out of
the game tonight, the guy that took in the first
round last year, who had a lot of drops last year,
and and and they felt so bad about him they
had to take McMillan in the first round. But Bryce
Young seems like he has found in everything I have
read about and and followed in Panthers' camp is that
they already have the chem and you know, you know
(28:01):
how talented McMillan is. I can see Bryce Young like
this year, taking that taking that leap to becoming and
I'll go back to our old friend Brady Papinga, to
becoming a serviceable, functional middle of the pack NFL quarterback.
Like I can see Bryce Young the ascension for him
to get from his rookie year he was eleven touchdowns
(28:23):
and ten picks. He looked terrible. Quarterback rating was seventy three.
Last year was a little bit better. In less games.
He threw four more touchdowns one less pick. Is his
rating was higher. I can see year two now in
this offense with a better number one wide receiver in McMillan.
I can see a twenty touchdown, six or seven interception
(28:44):
season quarterback rating in the nineties to the point where
almost like he he would be like a Geno Smith,
where you know, I can see you can pay him
for a while and have Bryce Young be your starter,
because he's a he'll be a middle of the pack
quarterback now. Obviously, if he was gonna be great, it
would have happened already. He was drafted number one overall,
and clearly there's some stuff that didn't take advantage with him.
(29:06):
I think you gotta get him outside the pocket more,
let him throw on the run more. It's what the
Bears he to do with Caleb Williams a little bit.
But I can see him and I'm buying in on
him taking that leap this year. He's never gonna be
a guy that wins a passing title, throws for four
thousand yards. Not quite who he is, but that kind
of player where, yeah, he'll have a big game now
and again, he's not gonna turn the football over a ton.
(29:28):
He will get you up and down the field, into
the end zone, and if you're the Panthers, I think
you'll take that. Okay, if we have a quarterback, if
we have Bryce Young and he's a league average type
quot all right, it's not a position we have to
absolutely go in solvary year because you know, when you
don't have a quarterback, life is miserable. Those teams in
the back half of the NFL that don't have the quarterbacks,
life is miserable.
Speaker 3 (29:47):
But I'm buying Bryce Young.
Speaker 1 (29:49):
Thanks to McMillan, thanks to year two, thanks to what
seems to be a big quarterback friendly system in Carolina.
I'm buying on him having a good year this year.
Speaker 3 (29:57):
So they brought Dave can Allison after what he was
able to with Baker Mayfield, and you saw better. Now
he needs to improve that field goal or I should
say the completion percentage. I want to make him a shooter.
Completion percentage is still at sixty's. That's not gonna get
it done. But it was a cleaner game. You got
(30:17):
a good running back in Chewba Hubbard, so you get
some balance there. Remember we were curious what would happen
with Josh Rosen in year two In Arizona. Right, but
here comes Cliff Kingsbury. He brings in Kyler Murray and
well that was the end of Josh Roseen. We never
got to find out. And then he bounced around and
really never never flashed to the point where he got
(30:38):
a legitimate run at quarterbacking again. But for Bryce Young, yeah,
you've got a couple of veterans. Hunter Renfro comes back.
We know that he's a pretty good sit down receiver
of healthy and on his game, as is Adam Feelin
Older can't break away the same way. But that's why
you bring in McMillan to take it over the top.
And with year two in Canalis, yeah, you've got a
(30:59):
guy that should be able to push you forward. He's
part of that reclamation project. Look at what Baker Mayfield
just signed for. Do you think he sent some chocolates
or flowers to what Canal has did for him while
he was in Tampa. If he didn't, he should have
exit out about a Fresca exit.
Speaker 1 (31:15):
Swallen Dolly buying on Bright Now, don't buy him on
fantasy because you don't want somebody with twenty touchdowns here,
don't buy But I'm buying him on the field in
the Panthers, building on that success they had towards the
end of last year, buying on Bryce Young. Who knew
tim go to find out what's trending in the wide
world of sports. But guy's been called the Bryce Young
of Fox Sports Radio, except he's a little bit taller.
Speaker 5 (31:35):
It's the sacred both from southern California. How about that.
We do have baseball to update, and then we'll get
to the football. As for the games in progress, the
Dodgers and Clayton Kershaw are leading. The Blue Jays and
Max Schers are two to one in the bottom of
the six. Looked like Kersha has done after the six innings,
one run allowed. Suures are with about ninety pitches thrown
(31:57):
right now still on the mound in the bottom of
the sixth inning. Move Betts with a two run homer
in the fifth for the LA leads. Since he snapped
the oh for twenty two at was when we were
on the air earlier this week, he is six for
ten at the plate since then. This home run was
his first in over a month and at short stop.
He started three double plays tonight right now two outs,
(32:18):
bottom of the six, two to one, Dodgers over Toronto
in a battle of first place teams. Saint Louis was
a five to nothing winner against the Cubs. Milwaukee won
at seventh in a row, three to two over the Mets,
who've dropped five straight. The Brewers threw out a runner
at the plate to end the game. Philadelphia won.
Speaker 1 (32:37):
I know people didn't need to know that, just the
Brewers won three to two.
Speaker 3 (32:41):
Fun facts with Steve Disager.
Speaker 5 (32:42):
The Mets are finding new Mets ways to lose. Philadelphia
nine to one victory at Texas, beating Merrill Kelly Kyle
Schwarber his forty first home run of the season and
his ninety fifth RBI. At Seattle, Cole Raley with his
forty third homer and it was a three run homer
in the bottom of the eighth to the ninth. Mariners
lead three to two over the Rays. It's the Diamondbacks
(33:04):
ahead of the Rocky six to one top of the eighth.
Colorado with a record of thirty and eighty four this season.
Giants are shutting out the Nationals two nothing in the
top of the sixth, and the Red Sox are shutting
out the Padres in San Diego five nothing in the
bottom of the seventh inning. That's a Walker Buehler start.
He went six scoreless innings in San Diego. Detroit beat
(33:25):
the Angels in a comeback six' five on a three
run homer in the eighth by a pinch Hitter Matt,
vierling And houston won in ten innings at The, yankees
five to, three the loss to Closer Devin, williams who
allowed three runs top of the, tenth including a. Homer

Speaker 1 (34:53):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith show With my best
Friend Mike. Harmon quick update here from The. Lions great
news Mo norris who left the game with a really
scary injury tonight The lions and The falcons game was
abandoned with fourteen minutes ago in the fourth. Quarter after
(35:14):
this scary, injury he was taken off the field taken
to a hospital after a helmet to knee. Hit his
legs were. Spasming it was really. Scary both teams decided
they were done, playing which is a very classy gesture
by both. Squads we got the update From Dan campbell
last hour saying he was, talking he was, breathing and
there was some. Movement this from The lions just moments.
(35:37):
Ago Mon norris is in stable, condition has feeling and
movement in all his. Extremities he's going to remain At
Greaty Memorial hospital In atlanta overnight for. Observation so that
sounds like the best case. Scenario they went on to
thank The falcons And Mercedes Benz stadium as. Well but
that sounds like the best possible outcome. Here stable, condition
(35:58):
feeling and movement in his, extremity and remaining. Overnight so
this tells, me, hey he stays overnight for. Us when
they say we're gonna keep you, overnight that, means, hey
if everything's going, okay we'll let you go. Tomorrow So
i'm hopeful, that you, know he can go tomorrow and
then get back To. Detroit so about as good an
update as you could possibly expect from.
Speaker 3 (36:15):
This that's. Awesome feelings in the extremity is being able to,
talk breathe on his. OWN i mean like it checks every. Box,
SO i, mean you, know from one of those be thankful,
moments breathe it. In it's was a terrible scary, moment
but you, know the resilience of the human body and
spirit on.
Speaker 1 (36:34):
Display so good news, there and, again if we hear
anything else, tonight we'll continue to bring you an update on. That,
meanwhile three games in the. Books tonight we'll get back
To Shador sanders coming up a little. Bit but tomorrow's the.
Day tomorrow we get to see the debut Of Travis.
Hunter we get to see the two way debut Of Travis,
(36:57):
hunter who's gonna play both sides of the football for
The jaguars in their. Opener and the first THING i
want to say is, This Like Devonte adams had a
big thing this week where he, said you, Know Travis
hunter can't play both sides of the.
Speaker 3 (37:08):
Boy he can't can't do it in THE. Nfl and
it was a, long nuanced, thing but, yeah it eventually
got boiled down to one. Line, yeah he said he
can't play.
Speaker 1 (37:16):
Both, Yeah AND i want to say, This, okay maybe
you can't play, both But this is a kid that's
shown that not only CAN i play both sides of the,
ball BUT i can win awards at. IT i can
play receiver really. WELL i can play defensive back really.
WELL i can win A Heisman trophy doing. That, so,
yeah maybe he's the. Guy, right you did anyone, say
(37:38):
oh show, hey O, toddy you can't pitch and.
Speaker 3 (37:39):
Play you can't do? That oh, no he did.
Speaker 1 (37:41):
That let's look at what's possible instead of what's, impossible,
right instead of saying he can't.
Speaker 3 (37:47):
Do, it he can't do.
Speaker 1 (37:47):
It obviously he's gonna get a chance to do. It
why can't we look at this from the perspective of
he might be the first guy to play both sides
of the football, now gonna play every single? Snap, no
but can he play maybe play the majority of the
snaps on offense and the majority of the snaps on. Defense,
yeah he's been doing this is why he's such a special.
Player why can't we focus on the fact that maybe
(38:07):
he can do it.
Speaker 3 (38:08):
Instead of, no he. Can't he can't do. It he
can't do. It so far he's been able to do. It,
Yeah i'll stick up For adams in the point that
he said it would cut short what he would be
able to do talking about the physicality of it over
the course of his. Career kind of like we celebrate
What Cam newton, was, Right Cam newton who had eight
brilliant years in The National Football, League but, ah well
(38:30):
look at. It he fell off and that was. It it's,
like how about we we look at how great he
was except for the one play where he didn't dive
on the. Football otherwise he put his body on the
line and he gave us a lot of brilliant. Moments
Travis hunter and What adams was, saying and he went
on for quite a while with his answer is he
eventually got back, to well he could do, it but
(38:53):
the toll it's gonna take on your, body it may
rob him of the back end is kind of where
it got nuanced and hut. Off but to the, point,
yeah let's see, it let's see how it. WORKS i
can't wait to see What Liam cohen. Does he's what
number two on the depth chart behind what the brilliance
of What Brian thomas was a year. Ago if You're
Trevor lawrence who put out his big thing tonight of
(39:16):
hey year, five let's go h and all the. Positivity,
yeah he's got Two, uh it gets to be the.
Joker where does he get those wonderful toys in, Theory
you've got two guys that can go out and make
it happen for. You still got to figure, out you
know what what that running back alongside Tanks biggs? Beat?
Uh do you ever truly get etn back to what
he was supposed to? Be but, yeah let's let's see
(39:38):
what it what it. Does and certainly tomorrow another huge
first test and audition in front of a national. Audience
AND i will tell you, this how is tomorrow gonna.
Go it's gonna go. Fine obviously he's not gonna play
the majority of the, game, uh at wide, receiver in
the ptority of the game at defensive, back because this
is the first preseason. Game SO i expect tomorrow to
(40:00):
go just fine and there to be no roadbumps or
anything to, say, well maybe we've got to dial it
back for the.
Speaker 1 (40:06):
Guy he'll play whatever they wanted to play, Offensively he'll
play whatever they want to play.
Speaker 3 (40:10):
Defensively it won't nearly be the the the riggers of
a full football. Game he'll be just.
Speaker 1 (40:16):
Fine and and we'll it'll be, hey week, two we
can give him a little bit, more a little bit
more playing, time a little bit more, receiver a little
bit more defensive. Back it will be absolutely. Fine the
entire preseason is gonna be ramping up when you see
it for real now week. One BUT i can't see
there being anything in the preseason that's gonna take The
jaguars away from the strategy Of Travis.
Speaker 3 (40:37):
Hunter is gonna play both sides of the, Football, well
it certainly isn't gonna happen in any of their. Games
they're Playing, Pittsburgh New orleans And. Miami, YEAH i mean.
Tomorrow he's not exactly gonna be tested consistently with the
riggers of An Arthur smith led. Offense good, luck good
luck trying to figure that. Out oh, wait and then
it it.
Speaker 1 (40:58):
Shuck, Yeah so DO i need to play because they're
not really gonna throw the? FOOT i Know rogers is,
there but they're not really gonna throw. It so DO
i need to play all these?
Speaker 3 (41:05):
Downs?
Speaker 1 (41:06):
Okay, GOOD i get some, Restaured i'm. Good i'm feeling.
Okay so, yeah everything will be. Justified look at what's,
possible not what's. Impossible it sounds like it should be
like a slogan for a company year Like Crypto. No
that should be focused on what isn't. Disastrous that should
be The jets. Slogan right there we get back into
(41:27):
the BIGGEST nfl story of the. Night this Is Fox Sports.
Speaker 3 (41:30):
Radio
