(00:52):
Show and subscribe. Well, here we are, now a minute
to go in the fourth quarter. Chieves have t taking
the lead over the Jaguars twenty eight to twenty four.
Another Kareem Hunt touchdown. Jaguars have the football facing a
third down near midfield, and I gotta say this because
it's Monday night, everything gets amped up more. But it's

(01:15):
a perfect time to say this. This is a huge
drive for the current and future and belief in Trevor
Lawrence for the Jaguars. At some point he's got to
pick up the team and say I can do this,
because right now it's been a really soft landing from
Liam Cohen coming in and they run the ball great,
their defense has been really good. But this is a

(01:37):
number one overall pick that you gave fifty million dollars
a year or two. At some point, he's got to
win a game for you. He's got to say, Okay, hey,
here I am. Final two minutes.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
This is my drive.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
I'm gonna Baker Mayfield this thing all the way down.
This is a huge drive he is. He is fifty
six yards away from what could be a great moment
for him, or a moment where you say, maybe Trevor Lawrence,
this is just kind of who he is.

Speaker 3 (02:02):
Yeah, three and one in those three wins, two d
and twenty two passing yards or fewer. He's under that
right now, trying to make plays with his legs. They
got the gift from Harrison Butker after the touchdown by
Kareem hunt, and he just threw an absolute dime along
the sideline in between two defenders to move the ball,

(02:22):
but they got the gift of Butcker kicking the ball
out of bound, so they started at the forty. He
ran twice and now he throws it up down the sideline,
just a beautiful play, swatting at its watson he can't
get it secured and out of bounce, so making that
big play right as you called him out.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
Uh huh.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
He dropped that right in there to Brian Thomas, like,
that's a hell of a pass right there between two dbs.
Connor comes over a couple of steps late. So now
the Jaguars have the football first and ten fifty four
seconds left at the twenty four yard line of the Chiefs.
Plenty of time to get in the end zone. Here,
Lawrence has a lot to work with. Throw a pass

(03:00):
out of bounds at the eleven yard line, Brown with
a big catchup but waiting for him to get back
in the lineup and finally has a big catch there.
So forty eight seconds left to go, and now here
they are at the ten. Now you're thinking, wait, maybe
they might score too soon much you might score to
give all this time for Mahomes to get back out there.

Speaker 4 (03:17):
Yeah, it's crazy.

Speaker 3 (03:18):
I mean the past Thomas he had a double clutch,
he had I think a finger on it from the
Kansas City defender. But you know it's been well chronicled
through the first month of the season, their inability to
get on the same path and all the disconnect that's
been there. But right now, just moving the ball, cutting
through Spagnola's defense to get down to the twelve.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
I mean, I mean, this is such a huge moment
for Trevor Lawrence to come through to try to win
this thing because it's it's all gonna be on him now,
doesn't matter if if they don't win and somebody runs
the wrong route.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
So it's Trevor.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
Look, this is a guy you decided to give a
lot of money to even though he's just been a
league average quarterback at best. At best, he's been a
league average quarterback. But it's embarrassing for the Jaguars. Well,
we drafted this guy number one overall when everybody said
he should be a number one overall pick.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
We gotta give him more money.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Wait a minute, you don't you seen him for four years,
He's not been great. Yeah, I get you took him
number one. Everybody would have taken him number one. I'm
not saying that. But now here at the end, well,
we look bad if we don't pay him, like that's
really what it was. We look bad if we don't
pay him money. So now you have a guy that
you're giving fifty million dollars a year to where he's
still league average quarterback.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
Well, it's been the someone's gonna come in and unlock
that guy we saw at Clemson.

Speaker 4 (04:31):
That has been the tail of the tape.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
I don't know about that.

Speaker 4 (04:35):
No, no, no, but that's it. I'm taking in theory.

Speaker 3 (04:38):
And then Liam Gohen comes in and well he's the
guy that's gonna do it. To this point, coming into
tonight's game, through four games, fifty eight percent completion rate,
and I talk about the disconnect and the near misses
with Brian Thomas, the frustrations have been there. You get
Diami Brown back on the field tonight. That was his
first catch, but coming into this game, you had what

(05:00):
five touchdowns, four picks. Fortunately, the offensive line had held up,
and it's really been the run game and the defense
that carried them. They were dying through that's why they've
been able to be winning and look and they look
really impressive while they're doing it right, they've been looking
in press, running the football, playing great defense, like wow, okay, hey,

(05:20):
this has been a really good coaching job coming in.

Speaker 1 (05:22):
I don't know if it's something that this is what
we want or it's after seeing Trevor Lawrence. We can't
give him all the responsibility he used to, but at
some point, your quarterback's got to win games for you.

Speaker 3 (05:31):
Yeah, we're also talking about, you know, a guy that
they pretty much gave up on in Washington and Diami
Brown being your number two, and wishing, wanting, hoping that
Trevor Travis Hunter becomes that guy. You got Brian Thomas
and a bunch of guys, right, I mean, Brenton Strange
is your tight end. Pops up now and again. But overall,
this is not a wide receiving corps that strikes fear

(05:54):
into the hearts of anybody.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
Heenan McCardell. Sure, Jimmy Smith is now forever and twine
Jimmy Smith. You can't say one without the other. It's
you know, Starsky and Hutch, It's Lenny and Squeaky.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
So where we sit right now.

Speaker 1 (06:08):
After a first down at the eleven yard line, coming
off an incomplete pass of the goal line, the Jaguars
get called for delay of game, which again that's not
a great look. They complete a short pass and now
they're facing third and thirteen and they throw into the
end zone. The Chiefs come away with an interception off

(06:32):
a tip, but there is a flag and it looks
like it could be past interference on the Chiefs. The
result of the play is an interception, but it looks
like there's gonna wind up being past interference. Waiting for
the call right now, Lawrence just threw it up into
the end zone and got lucky that you got the
pass interference call. They got the pass interference call. They're
gonna put the ball to one yard line. He was

(06:54):
in trouble. He threw it up to the end zone
and yeah, Connor doesn't really turn around, gets his arm
around Tom. The ball bounce in the air and it's
picked off. Yeah, gotta turn your head around. You're not
gonna get that call. Uh, you see him get the
right arm in, doesn't get it out of he gone.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
That's gonna mean how many times the Chief's gotten that call. Yeah,
that is the other way.

Speaker 1 (07:16):
So it's gonna be a first and goal now for
the Jaguars at the one yard line with thirty seconds
left to go, and Trevor Lawrence, Trevor Lawrence is good.
Oh my god, Trevor Lawrence just rewrote his legacy. That's
the play of his life. The Trevor Lawrence makes the
play of his life after nearly making the worst mistake

(07:38):
of his life. Okay, but there there is a flag
on the play. First and goal from the one. Trevor
Lawrence gets the snap from center and promptly falls down.

Speaker 3 (07:49):
He steps on the center steps.

Speaker 2 (07:53):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (07:53):
I don't know if somebody stepped on his foot, but
Lawrence falls down, trouble getting up.

Speaker 2 (08:01):
He gets up, The Chiefs.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
Cannot get to him, and he's able to scramble out
of trouble and into the end zone for the go
ahead touchdown. The flag is on the Chiefs. It will
be declined, so the Jaguars take the lead thirty to
twenty eight extra point pending. Lawrence got his helmet off
on the sideline. The flowing locks are everywhere. It is

(08:23):
a thirty one to twenty eight lead for the Jaguars,
Mahomes does have twenty three seconds and they do need
a field goal. But watching this play again, Lawrence takes
the snap and he looks like he gets his footstepped
on by the guard, by the right guard, and he
tries to get up and falls. He falls down, tries

(08:44):
to get up and falls a second time, gets up
and somehow there's a.

Speaker 2 (08:49):
Chief, one of the Chiefs slip through his arm.

Speaker 1 (08:51):
One of the Chiefs defensive linemen has him in his grasp,
has his arms around him, and he can't corral him.
Lawrence cuts up, gets into the end zone for the touchdown,
and it looks like the.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
Jaguars are going to win this game if they can.

Speaker 1 (09:04):
Hold on Si Non second to the ground he's got
slips right through him. He's got both arms around him
at about the three yard line, and Lawrence is able
to stay out. I mean, that's the play, that's the
play of his car is the longest one yard run
in the history of man. And really he has the
comeback against the Chargers. Sorry, Frostburg, he's got the comeback.
That was a little hurt you, but.

Speaker 4 (09:23):
That's why what help get him his fifty million eear.

Speaker 5 (09:27):
I already got about that, and here you go, y
in that wound buried that one.

Speaker 1 (09:31):
That is the career defining play by Trevor Lawrence. I mean,
I mean, that's it's really a disaster to start, and
now what happens at the end is divine intervention and serendipity.

Speaker 3 (09:46):
On the on the night eighteen to twenty five to
twenty one one and one also fifty four yards ten
carries two touchdowns on the ground, so insanity.

Speaker 1 (09:57):
So now it's going to work out a little bit
for the Chiefs potent that they kick the ball out
of bounds because they have sixteen seconds, the ball to
about the thirty five yard line their own thirty five. Remember,
they just need a field goal, except there's gonna be
a holding call on the Chiefs that's gonna bring it back.
So now Mahomes does have the timeouts he needs holding

(10:17):
on Jack Cochran. So now this takes them back. So
now they get sixteen seconds to get the field goal range. Again,
we've seen it many times from Patrick Mahomes, but this
might be a little too much, you know, seeing on
the replay. Yeah, he's got yep, he's got a hold
of the Jaguars player who can have attempt to tackle
the returner. That's gonna get flagged. So now the ball
is back at their twenty yard line. But they do

(10:38):
have the timeout. So one play near midfield we've seen
the Chiefs do it. Another play into field goal range,
we could see them potentially kicking a game tying field goal.
Can't take that part away from Homes because just because
we've seen them do that so many times.

Speaker 3 (10:49):
Utger has the distance, and obviously you do have the speed, Stirs.
You've got more weapons deployed this week as the Chiefs
start to get healthy. But yeah, just an insane see equins.

Speaker 1 (11:02):
Pass across the middle is incomplete by Mahomes nine seconds left,
second and ten. They probably have one play to get
to midfield and probably a hail Mary, unless yeah, I
don't know, maybe you want to, you know, try butcker
from sixty five yards, you get to midfield and try,
you know, why not, right, try.

Speaker 3 (11:17):
To get that little perto slam on his head as
fast as hard as you can.

Speaker 5 (11:20):
Hey, Chiefs fans, how's it feel? How's it feel? Kansas City?

Speaker 1 (11:25):
Mahomes tries to go over the middle deep to Xavier
Worthy Murray knocks it down, so again they put a
second back on the clock, so ten seconds left from
the eighteen yard line. Again, the Chiefs are looking at
you know, if they can somehow get it to midfield,
then we have a decision to make, but nine seconds
to get there. It really does not look good for
cases absolute insanity. Thought it was a get right opportunity

(11:48):
on a Monday night that Jacksonville would the defense had
been living large, that this would be the equalizer with
all those weapons back from Mahomes, you got the run game,
jump start. I guess that's the best thing. He hit
him as if it were one of those throwing competitions.
Never looked for the football on the crossing route there

(12:09):
as you're watching, that was Hollywood Brown who never looked
for the ball.

Speaker 2 (12:15):
Mahome the middle had him.

Speaker 1 (12:16):
Mahomes tries it are a short slant over the middle
of Hollywood Brown, who doesn't turn around, so a little
bit of miscommunication hits him in the neck and the
ball hits the ground incomplete. So now seven seconds left.
The Chiefs clearly looking to just get a few yards here.
They get it up to Travis Kelcey, who gets tackled
around the thirty yard line. So now it's Hail Mary

(12:37):
time for the Chiefs with two seconds left to go
down thirty one twenty eight. It is a first down
though for the chief So you know, if something happens
here on this, you know they are going to get
another play if there's a penalty, But first down for
Kansas City. Not a lot you can do right now, except.

Speaker 3 (12:54):
Just say, if you're a fantasy owner, you got another
catch and knock a few more yards out of Travis Kelse.

Speaker 4 (12:59):
Well, there is something they can do.

Speaker 2 (13:00):
What can they do? They can wear this out.

Speaker 1 (13:05):
You know, they showed the replay of that pass to
Hollywood Brown a couple minutes ago, and he had some
yards in front of them.

Speaker 2 (13:09):
But that's just it right.

Speaker 6 (13:12):
Right.

Speaker 1 (13:12):
He probably a soft zone. He probably gets maybe close
to midfield. Well if he turns around in time, but
you don't know if it did Mahomes throw what early
not looking for it, depending on where that play was
going to be because it was a soft zone. So
this is going to be the final play for the
Chiefs to try to avoid falling to two and three
on the season.

Speaker 2 (13:29):
Yeah, that was that was something.

Speaker 3 (13:31):
Well, we'll be picking that up in post that's kind
of like bunting when you need a big not being
able to communicate there. But for Trevor Lawrence, I mean
the big prime time effort to uh, at least at
this point, it looks like you're gonna vanquish the almighty Chiefs.
That everybody was jumping back, you know, on that jump

(13:52):
to conclusions, Matt, that things were going to go right
and they were going to go on a tremendous run. Instead,
you're holding serve your first Monday night football game in Jacksonville,
wearing those glorious uniforms of the Smith mccarnell and Mark
Brunell Fred Taylor kind of years not.

Speaker 5 (14:10):
So mighty though, when they don't get the calls there
at the end.

Speaker 1 (14:13):
Right, Yes, they're facing a big first and fifteen now
from their own twenty five yard line with three seconds
left to go. You gotta think this is gonna do it,
barring a miracle for Kansas City. Don't forget you miss

Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon.

Speaker 2 (15:53):
Yeah, live from.

Speaker 1 (15:55):
The Fox Sports Radio studios were an absolute thriller in Jacksonville.
The Jaguars have enough to hold off the Chiefs thirty
one twenty eight thanks to a big touchdown run by
Trevor Lawrence in the final minute. We'll get to Lawrence
in a second. You'll hear the play by play of

(16:16):
his touchdown. It was absolutely insane. It was something for
us to act and react in real time a few
minutes ago.

Speaker 2 (16:22):
Two.

Speaker 1 (16:23):
This is a career defining drive for him, a present
and future. Hey, is he really a franchise great franchise quarterback,
because quarterbacks need to do something like that once in
a while, And in real time, we're saying he needed
to do it, And not only did he do it,
he averts absolute disaster in the process by getting into

(16:43):
the end zone. And now the Jaguars are four and one,
a loss to the Bengals in week two. Really the
one headshaker that the only thing keeping them from being
unbeaten at this point.

Speaker 3 (16:54):
Yeah, he just kept winging the ball around. I mean
that game was insane. So we put that off to
the side. You started to see a little more of
the excitement with this unit. You're seeing they're getting back
and Travis Hunters just losing his mind going in with
the fans in the stands. You go and you beat

(17:18):
the Chiefs, right, you need one of those signature moments
right coming in three and one.

Speaker 4 (17:24):
That's huge.

Speaker 3 (17:25):
But with the Chiefs getting healthy and everything getting right
seemingly with their pass game. Now it was the Baltimore Ravens,
but we'll put that aside for the moment that there
were a lot of expectations that this would be their
come up and this would be on a big national stage,
that they'd get pushed back into the junior section, and
instead they matched him blow for blow over the course

(17:48):
of the night, the big ninety nine yard interception return,
and really you had the moment early in the game
with Lords trying to extend at the goal line that
Bolton makes the great punch out of that. A lot
of teams fold after big minute in moments like that
right now where you see big possessions, big critical all

(18:08):
right here, uh, here's our shining moment, and then they
shrink away the rest of the game. Instead, they kept
fighting and that final possession after the butker uh just
the latest and a long line of kicking gaffs that
we've seen across the National Football League with the landing zone,
et cetera. Here he tries to sneak it around up

(18:29):
towards the sideline. Returner looks at it, says the hell
with this, and it bounces out of bounce to start
at the forty and take advantage of the field position
as they did.

Speaker 4 (18:39):
It was. It was a great drive.

Speaker 3 (18:41):
And despite the potential chaos for Lawrence scrambles to the
end zone.

Speaker 4 (18:46):
Just a huge minute.

Speaker 2 (18:47):
It was. Look the Jaguars, it had.

Speaker 1 (18:49):
They had all the ingredients, you know, the super sauce
without d to, had some goju jang. They had some
soy sauce. They had say that again, had some goju jang.
They had sun had sun chokes, soy sauce, they had
all kinds of stuff.

Speaker 4 (19:00):
They had eel sauce. Someone to teach you about spicy,
Well he's sunning out now.

Speaker 1 (19:04):
Someone Okay, some chokes and go to jang a big
things on guy grocery games like they're they're big things
that they grabbed for flavor.

Speaker 3 (19:11):
Did you see someone jacked a couple of trucks full
of tequila. No really, yeah, got fi edi. I did
not see that went on branches.

Speaker 1 (19:19):
Oh too soon, too soon, too soon. We'll get to
Sanchez trying to figure out what happened. He did a
big interview, going, I don't understand this.

Speaker 3 (19:29):
There's thousands of dollars and bottles of tequila and that
went missing. But yes, the grocery games was never my thing.

Speaker 1 (19:35):
Now, now look to finish with with Lawrence before we
get to the Chiefs and my homes like like they said,
this was he needs at some point to show that
I am a franchise quarterback and I can be that guy.
And when things happen on Monday night and Thursday night
and Sunday night, they're always amped up more and he
needed to come. This was the thing that was tailor
made from. Okay, less than two minutes left to go,

(19:57):
we need a touchdown. Field goal doesn't work, Gotta get
in the end zone. Yes, they get the big favor
done for them with Butcker kicking it out of bounds. However,
but the fact they scored with a minute with thirty
seconds left, twenty seconds left, it's kind of okay, but
the fact that he's able to get them down gets
the pass interference call because for you know what you
want to say, him throwing the ball up on third

(20:19):
and ten look disastrous into the end zone. He sees
that play and sees the DB's got his head away
from the ball, Thomas is facing him. I throw it up.
Maybe something good happens, and they got the call, and
then of course his scramble into the end zone. Can't
say enough about it because it's not like he did
it to himself and got out of it. He takes

(20:40):
the snap first in goal at the one with about
thirty seconds left to go, and his foot gets stepped
on by the right guard. Absolute disaster until Trevor Lawrence
turned it from disaster into the best possible thing.

Speaker 2 (20:55):
First and goal with thirty seconds.

Speaker 3 (20:57):
Leftlawrence goes down, has to get up, breaks the tackle, tucksdown,
jacks away.

Speaker 1 (21:11):
ESPN on the call. Joe Buck looking like a very
skinny Arnold Schwarzenegger. Now like he kind of looks like Schwartz,
You see it looks like Schwartz does. He's a little
color in the hair, a little short muscles, yeah, well,
a little bit of muscles. He's got, he's got the
he's got the form fitting suit that he's got on
so much.

Speaker 2 (21:30):
No, that's a face is identical. I can't believe it.
Look at this, he falls down and gets in the
end zone for a touchdown. Go ahead again and give
these people.

Speaker 1 (21:38):
Ah uh, I mean the fact that Lawrence is stepped on, falls,
tries it up, falls a second time. The Chiefs can't
get to him, and Lawrence gets into the end zone.
I don't think the camera left Trevor Trevor Lawrence's face
the rest of the game. It was like he was
superimposed over Mahomes and the Chiefs with like sixteen seconds

(21:59):
left trying to match one last gas drive, but him
on the sideline going in through the tunnel, waving to everyone.
It's like this moment for Trevor Lawrence. He for now
he has flipped that narrative. That's how big a deal
it was. Fell off his shoulders as he hit the
end zone.

Speaker 2 (22:18):
Right.

Speaker 3 (22:19):
All the stuff we're talking about, the years of if
and buts, in the number of coordinators and head coaches
that have come through there, going back to the Urban
Meyer experiment and everything, and you got two years of
really good statistics right, one great year, one pretty good year,

(22:39):
the big win. Sorry prospered to bring it up again
against the Chargers, but for this year balance and they
did it tonight without a big game from Ettn. Yeah,
he was less than fifty rushing yards on Lawrence was
their biggest rusher tonight. He let the team in rushing tonight.
It was a big deal. I mean, look, Yan, we'll
hear from him again. It looked like it was we
are annoying him the hero the way that ESPN shot

(23:02):
him at the end. He's the new He's now, this
is who we thought he was taking number one overall
in the draft. But in what has been a very
strange five weeks of football. And that's me being kind
because watching those games on Sunday, I kept looking at
it like I haven't had a drop of alcohol, but
I think I'm drunk watching the ends of these games,
the lack of execution, some of the silliness. I mean,

(23:26):
the Arizona game itself, we could write a book about
the chaos that went on there, and not just the
two scoring plays. Right, you had the interception fumble score.
You had the dear Mercado dropping the ball at the one.
He also had the play where Kyler Murray doesn't expect

(23:46):
the snap to come and it takes him in the
in the face to where it was just just terrible,
Like you like, did he suffer concussion on him? Was
the immediate discussion. The way he was trying to shake
his head like what the hell might do it here?
Like that game alone had enough chaos, and then you
go throughout the rest of the NFL and then you

(24:07):
punctuate the week that was. I mean, go back to
Thursday night and all the chaos that went down in
that game. But you end with that scramble of him
falling multiple times, Tillery's got his arms around his legs
and he slips straight through to run in for the touchdown.
I mean, just absolute absurdity from pillar to post. Now,
the flip side of it is this what have we

(24:28):
told you from the beginning of this book the preseason
for the Kansas City Chiefs. Stock up on Patrick Mahomes.
Stock down on the Chiefs.

Speaker 1 (24:36):
Stock up on Mahomes because he's finally starting to get
the weapons back a little bit. And you know, he's
passed after two years of being called a game manager.
Because that's really what he's been in theory. We got
the weapons. Now, Hollywood Brown, Rushie Rice. At some point
we'll play zaf you're worthy, we're gonna figure it out, right.
So I was stock up on Mahomes, but stock down
on the Chiefs because.

Speaker 2 (24:56):
They're an older team and they're.

Speaker 1 (24:58):
Not as talented as as some of these other younger
teams now. And when that happens, the change happens fast.
It's not a well slowly that, No, it happens fast.
Where you go from we're the best two, now we're older,
we're not as athletic, we're not we're not as talented,
and all of a sudden that shows up in the
wins and lost column.

Speaker 3 (25:17):
Well, but this is where you got to make sure
they're actually dead this time, right, we joke about it
with you know, it's October, so the Halloween movies are
flowing out. I watched the nineteen thirty one classic Dracula
as I was working on some stuff today.

Speaker 2 (25:29):
So did he want to suck your blood?

Speaker 4 (25:31):
I don't think he said it explicitly, No, I think
it was just implied.

Speaker 3 (25:34):
Then you watch the wrong one, But just the idea
that we watched it last year where they the imperfect
roster where the playmakers and tadda, there they are at
the end. You look at the way the AFC is
set up right now. Yeah, the Jaguars are four and one.
If they met again, you think they're taking him down again.
Maybe not the Ravens. We're supposed to have the best

(25:57):
roster man. We can get Jason Lock and Vora back
on and in and save Harbor Hour. And I'm sure
he's got some other germs he'd like to use for
what they're putting out. Buffalo lost to the Patriots, flawed.
You look at the rest of the Look at the
in the division, right, the Chargers, they're gonna struggle going forward. Right,
the offensive line is decimated. You lose Hampton justin, Herbert's

(26:19):
getting hit in an alarming rate, et cetera. Denver's good,
Are they great? They're great defensively, offensively, and then the
Raiders think so, you still have the chance in division
to roll through and if you're healthy at the right time,
and that's where it gets down. If you can qualify
for the tournament you're healthy. Kareem Hunt running like the

(26:42):
Kareem Hunt.

Speaker 2 (26:43):
You saw a few years ago. I don't know I'm
not gonna. I'm beloth to say they're dead.

Speaker 1 (26:48):
Yeah, but still again, here's another game where you're leading
rusher is Patrick Mahomes right six, We thought we got
out of that. I mean, he's gonna he might he
might run for a thousand yards. I mean, really, this
might be what the Chiefs do.

Speaker 2 (27:00):
Right.

Speaker 1 (27:00):
But this was part of my stock up on Mahomes
because he's on the middle Finger revenge to the Jerry
Jones middle Finger Revenge tour of blank. You you think
I'm done being elite quarterback, I'll show you. And everything
pointed to this year being that year where he could
flip that script on it. And also they're gonna need
him to be that guy because they're not that team anymore.
Where Hey, we have a great defense that we don't

(27:22):
need you to have the responsibility you need you had
two or three years ago, right game manage pull out
games in the fourth quarter, because again, no team has
been better in the fourth quarter of the last few
years in Kansas City has been. But they don't have
that team now. So I was stock up on Mahomes,
but stock down because you see here they are. Yes,
do other teams have problems, Yeah, but the Chiefs are
losing to all these teams. You know, it's not like
they're Hey, they're four and one and boy they're back

(27:43):
at the top. No, they're two and three, and you
see that they have problems. Yes, you're hoping that all
these receivers and we get it. Yeah, but you've been
trying to get these three guys on the field for
two years and you haven't been able to. Two more weeks,
you know, Yeah, Okay, two more weeks and release party. Right,
It's like I could sell the glittery orange version next.
It doesn't help that twenty four hours only. They're an

(28:05):
older team. It doesn't help the fact that Travis Kelcey
is not as dynamic as he was. That's still a
guy like Taekwon Forton is the is your leading receiver tonight? Look,
Hollywood Brown is a nice player, right, he made a
nice big toe tapping catch, But he's not somebody that's
super elite. Right, Xavier Worthy is a good receiver. Is
he super elite?

Speaker 2 (28:25):
No?

Speaker 1 (28:25):
Right, we're still waiting for Rashid Rice, who maybe is elite,
but we got to wait a couple more.

Speaker 2 (28:29):
Weeks for him.

Speaker 1 (28:29):
But, like I said, still offensively Hey, Mahomes has got
but they can't run the football that well. The defense
isn't what it is. And clearly at the end of
game you are seeing younger teams and more athletic teams
making bigger plays making Just look at that final play.
How does nobody get Trevor Lawrence when he falls down.

Speaker 3 (28:48):
He's a sixty generational star, he's sixty five.

Speaker 2 (28:52):
He's sixty five.

Speaker 1 (28:52):
It means there's a lot of him to tackle. There's
a lot of attack when he's six y five on
the round and you can't get there.

Speaker 3 (28:58):
Don't you remember how people are falling all over themselves.
It's like the arch manning preseason.

Speaker 1 (29:05):
This Trevor Warrence, he out athletic you into the end zone?

Speaker 2 (29:10):
Right that that that's.

Speaker 1 (29:11):
Not all changed here though he was scared for he's
just picked football and for his more tab That's one
of those win.

Speaker 2 (29:18):
In your head, all you're thinking is oh.

Speaker 3 (29:19):
Blank, oh blank, oh blank, oh blank, oh like, especially
if he fell the second time.

Speaker 1 (29:23):
But that's still the Chiefs. The Chiefs are having trouble.
All of these teams are finding ways at the end
of games because they're again younger, more athletic, They're finding
ways to do it. Not that the other teams don't
have problem. You saw. That's what I'm saying. Some teams
do have issues because what we saw this week was
all the teams we thought were great might not be
as great, but the Chiefs. It doesn't matter because these

(29:44):
teams are all still younger, more athletic. Like I said,
it keeps going to that phrase, but that's exactly what
everybody in the NFL has gotten. They've all gotten more talented.
These younger teams have all jumped up with great drafts
the last couple of years, and great new head coaches
who have come in that are taking over, and suddenly
it's oh man, we're really fighting for it.

Speaker 2 (30:02):
And again when the when the.

Speaker 1 (30:03):
Cliff shows up, the cliff is there. It's not a
gradual slide to it. It's all the cliff. Oh no,
the cliff is there, and there we go and and
so far two and three stock up, Patrick Mahomes, stock
down Chiefs.

Speaker 2 (30:14):
That's how it's been.

Speaker 3 (30:14):
Okay, I'm still on the I got the caution flag out,
I'll go race harmon, Harmon, I'm gonna go in caution
here just for the idea of you you're two and three.
Right now, you still are waiting for Rice to come back,
and the leaders in the in the AFC, as much
as I love Josh Allen, they still need a number
one wide receiver. Their number one had to be disciplined

(30:38):
and benched for a spell in Kean Coleman. Still waiting
to see who that guy is. Your other leaders, sunshine
right there, your guy Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars, and
our guy Daniel Jones. As much as I love Daniel Jones,
it's still the I want to believe it. I need
to believe it. But I've seen Patrick Mahomes do great

(31:00):
eight things, but not so mighty.

Speaker 5 (31:01):
Without the without the flags going their way.

Speaker 1 (31:05):
Not so mighty that somebody hateful not not getting the
roughing the passes or pass interference penalties that you're normally
used to. How's it feel, casey eight seven seven time
not to find out what's trending in the wide world
of sports. But guy's been called the Andy Reid of
Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (31:20):
I'm hungry.

Speaker 4 (31:22):
I was gonna say he just had some nuggies too.
It's Steve de Sega.

Speaker 6 (31:26):
You talked about Trevor Lawrence needed to come through NFL
research said tonight his career record when trailing by more
than a field goal with under two minutes left was
one and thirty six until tonight, when they came back
for a thirty one twenty eight victory over Casey on
his touchdown with under thirty seconds to go. And so
the Kansas City Chiefs, who didn't get lost number three

(31:48):
last year until the Super Bowl, are two and three
this young season, and the three losses have all been
by one score. Remember, until this year, the Chiefs had
won seventeen games in a row that were decided by
one score. And how did they lose this one tonight?
On the ground, they dominated the Chiefs as a team
twenty two carries, one hundred and fifty eight yards rushing,

(32:11):
not a single tackle for loss against them. Patrick Mahomes
was not sacked a single time. He threw for over
three hundred yards. The Chiefs give up the late touchdown,
and they had thirteen penalties in this game. Jacksonville is
four and one after the home victory. The Chargers are
placing first round running back Omarion Hampton on injured reserve

(32:32):
with the bad ankle. Patriots running back Antonio Gibson out
for the year with a torn ACL. Colts kicker Spencer
Schrader is out for the season with a torn ACL
and MCL. In the late playoff game at Milwaukee to
the eighth inning, Brewers top seed overall, trying to go
up two games to none in the best of five
division series. Milwaukee leads at home seven to three against Chicago.

(32:54):
Cubs got a three run homer top of the first.
Brewers answered with a three run shot bottom.

Speaker 2 (32:58):
Of the first.

Speaker 6 (32:59):
They had a couple more homers after that, and they're
now leading in the eighth. The Dodgers held on for
a four to three win at Philadelphia to go up
two games to none. Dodgers scored four times in the
seventh inning. Philly's got one in the eighth, two runs
in the bottom of the ninth, but La held on
the save D'aroki Sasaki, who got the final out. Blake
Trying allowed three straight hits to start the bottom of

(33:20):
the ninth.

Speaker 1 (33:20):
The Dodgers Steve Dave Roberts could have waited a little
longer to bring Sasaki into the game. I don't think
you need that, but he could have wait a little
bit longer.

Speaker 6 (33:27):
Apparently he wanted to wait for the situation where literally
this was going to be the last batter of the game,
win or lose. He's only facing one batter. So the
Dodgers have won nine in a row. Their last loss
was two weeks ago. The American League games are on
FS one again tomorrow. The Edmonton Oilers gave center Connor
McDavid a two year extension. The NHL regular season starts Tuesday.

(33:49):
It's preseason just ended on Saturday night, and you talked
about the great one yard shall we call it quarterback
scramble for the game winning touchdown. It turns out he
actually Trevor Lawrence traveled over twenty yards on that play.
If you run that one yard one yard touchdown.

Speaker 4 (34:06):
You can hear Boerman calling that play though.

Speaker 1 (34:09):
Again whoop, whoop, oh, thank you Steve O twenty yards
to run one yard?

Speaker 2 (34:13):
That's okay, Hey, it happened.

Speaker 1 (34:15):
Flip that narrative, Trevor Lawrence, Hey, way to go down
counts and he got the touchdown?

Speaker 2 (34:21):
Did right? He did beat the Chiefs. It screwed the Chiefs. Yeah,
oh yeah.

Speaker 1 (34:24):
Yeah, exit out bout of Fresco. Exit swolling down the
Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Carmon. Coming
up next, we get into the biggest football story. We
got a lot of big breaking stuff the last a
few minutes. We get into the biggest football story of
the weekend that evolves a quarterback that hasn't played in
a few years, but yet still this story continues to

(34:46):
unfold Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (34:49):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific, Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with
my i best friend Mike Harmon.

Speaker 1 (35:01):
Yeah, we got more from the Jaguars and the Chiefs,
Dodgers and the Phillies coming up in a few minutes.
But uh, we have to talk about Mark Sanchez, the
story that's.

Speaker 4 (35:13):
Talking about Bruno.

Speaker 2 (35:14):
Do we have to do? Yeah, it's it's it's it's a.

Speaker 1 (35:18):
There's not many stories to take a turn like this
where initial reports this weekend where oh my goodness, Mark
Sanchez was stabbed outside a bar in Indianapolis. It went
and obviously thoughts and prayers when he got stabbed, but
it went from thoughts and prayers you get stabbed to
oh wait, now he's arrested facing a felony charge because

(35:39):
he got in a fight with a truck.

Speaker 2 (35:41):
Driver outside of a hotel.

Speaker 1 (35:44):
Uh. And there's all kinds of details about this that
do not put Sanchez in a good right. He was
in Indianapolis, of course, to do the Raiders Colts game,
and according to the man who was stabbed, seventy year
old man, Sanchez is running windsprint outside of the back
of the hotel for some reason, because that's how I
like to do, is run late night windsprints. I want

(36:05):
to want to All I can say is that I
have no other information wind sprints when when I've been
slightly uh shall we say overserved, have never been one
to say, hey, you know what I'm gonna go do?
You never had that springs You ever had them moment
with your friends though, where it was like, hey, let's
go play basketball.

Speaker 2 (36:21):
Yeah, let's go play midnight basketball. Let's go.

Speaker 4 (36:23):
Yeah, let's go.

Speaker 3 (36:24):
Let's usually not after the demon alcohol then, but only
I'm a little bit lethargic.

Speaker 2 (36:29):
But I'm not I would go play.

Speaker 3 (36:31):
I'm not working out, that's not but I mean, that's
not hyping me up to go run or do anything
like that because as we all know, running is.

Speaker 1 (36:37):
Stupid, so apparently he was running wind sprint. This look
all according to footage that we got. The guy was
there to exchange you know, he's a grease grease guy
at a hotel, meaning he drops off grease that they
use and takes the grease away that that is done
the restaurant in the hotel uses. And it was an
argument over a parking spot. Sanchez apparently didn't like the

(36:57):
guy parked where he did, parked his truck where he did.
He tried to get into the truck and move it.
And I don't know what this is the whole thing about,
because it's not his driveway at his house. I don't
know that Sanchez was trying to get anywhere on it
right like that. The two biggest things to me is
they were arguing over a parking spot because that's exactly
or where the guy could park. And that's the crux

(37:18):
of all of this. Why Sanchez got threw the guy
up against the wall. The guy pepper sprayed in, but
Sanchez like he was a zombie in a movie where
the pepper spray has no effect. The guy stabs him
and Sanchez has to go and get help, and then
we find out details of the story. We see the video,
like number one, I need.

Speaker 3 (37:34):
A video of him staggering. Yeah, after the incident.

Speaker 1 (37:37):
I don't understand what he was so upset about, because
it's not like he had to get his car out
of there, but for some reason didn't want the guy
parking there and then that so that I'm waiting to
find out what that's all about. And the other part
is how it goes from thoughts and prey, you know,
and all of a sudden he's been taken right from
the hospital to jail and he's being booked on this

(37:58):
and look, there's more stuff that's gonna come out. Obviously
we're seeing, we're seeing camera. There's cameras everywhere. Now, hey,
all you gotta do is go see a movie and go.
We have cameras here, we have cameras here. We'll follow
this guy. We follow this guy here. But really, I mean,
this is this story just gets more and more bizarre
with each passing moment.

Speaker 3 (38:15):
No, but that's it right now, it's the retrace the
steps into the hours that led up to it. Right,
you get into town gonna do a game. Normally you
get after it a little bit right the first night
and then you've got all your meetings or whatever else. Yeah,
there's just this gap between in the bar to wind

(38:37):
sprints to yeah, this alteration to this ends up in
a stabbing like it's absolutely confusing. I watched a random
Simpsons episode the other day that was about the grease business,
so that was kind of interesting. That's you know, those
worlds converged once again. But just the details that originally

(38:59):
came out are nothing like what is now from the
officers statements through the arrest, which now goes up to
a felony which is one to six years in jail.
And that's the big part of this is none of
the facts that come out are pro Sanchez. No, everything
is he was the aggressor the guy stating the fact

(39:19):
that he was arrested right away tells me there's lots
of video evidence that we have seen and nothing is
positive and all he said so far as I don't remember,
which if you're Sanchez, quite honestly, that's kind of what
you have to keep saying, because nothing, nothing makes you
look there's nothing that makes you look good. The fact
that you've got arrested so fast, we have all the
video events we.

Speaker 1 (39:38):
Have X, Y, and Z. This guy was sixty nine
years old. Sanchez is thirty eight, ex athlete, Like, there
is nothing that makes him look good in this that
that keeps coming out.

Speaker 3 (39:47):
Is it the the territorial thing, like maybe around your
house where you're like, hey, that's that's no parking zone,
that's a and this is just that on steroids as
you're out and you know what ever you've ingested over
the course of the night. No, it says no parking,
You're not supposed to be there, and then you just
get aggressive like you're an authority figure.

Speaker 5 (40:09):
I really know it unless it's your driveway, like at
your house and somebody's parked there.

Speaker 2 (40:14):
Shut your mouth. Yeah, I know, I get that.

Speaker 4 (40:17):
That's the rational.

Speaker 3 (40:18):
That's where the disconnect is to you know what, what
do any toxicology reports?

Speaker 1 (40:24):
Yeah, I mean it's it's it's a story that has
all these different angles changing. He's lucky to be alive
after all of this.

Speaker 4 (40:32):
So and that other guy, I mean boy, then photos
of that he wore too.

Speaker 1 (40:38):
We'll have more on this and more in the other
big stories developing of the night and baseball and football.
