Speaker 2 (00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
Hello, welcome inside hour two of a wonderful Monday here
at Fox Sports Radio. Jason Smith, Mike Harmon. Now it's
just wonderful. Oh no, it's incredibly wonderful. Wonda, It's an
incredibly wonderful Monday. You just got another bonus.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
I know.
Speaker 1 (00:42):
The Diamondbacks lose the Rockies in a walk off, Yeah, buddy, the.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
Best of it being that they didn't update it. It's
like there's one out and guys are walking off the field.
I think they were playing the game under protest. I
don't like that call at all. I'm protesting. Oh wait,
they hit and update the graphic to say it's a final.
It's what happens when we don't have.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
Meanwhile, let me tell you what just happened in the
Eagles game with the Falcons. The Eagles have a three
point lead with just under two minutes left to go.
The Falcons are out of timeouts and it's a third
down and three for the Eagles inside the falcons fifteen
yard line. Saquon Barkley, who was now the prodigal son
(01:25):
of Philadelphia. We just needed him in the entire time.
We just need a Saquon and now we're gonna win
the Super Bowl. The Eagles get a great play call.
They roll Jalen Hurts out. It is an easy pass
to Saquon Barkley. Barkley's gonna get the first down and
the game is over.
Speaker 4 (01:42):
Or and he might get into the inside right.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
You might get, but he would prob Barkley's this might
be I like to think Barkley would have went down
and that would have been it, because then the Eagles
are just kneeling on the football because the Falcons are
out of timeouts. It's a great throw by Jalen Hurts.
It's right in his hands and Barkley drops it. So
instead of the game being over, the Eagles have to
kick a field goal. It's a twenty one to fifteen
(02:05):
lead with a minute thirty nine left to go, and
now the Falcons are Kirk Cousins have one last chance
to save his job, has one last chance to potentially
win this game for the Falcons when all Barkley's got
to do is hold on to that football and that
was going to be it.
Speaker 4 (02:19):
Game was over.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
Did you lose your Week two fantasy matchup by one
point six points?
Speaker 4 (02:24):
A few call us now and.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
We're represent you in the grievance against Saquon Barkley.
Speaker 4 (02:31):
Call eight seven seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
No, Hey, Mike, I'm in one of those crazy ass
leagues where they they give you minus points for drops
and I.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
Really I really needed that catch.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
I will take your case. But here's the you know,
Captain Kirk. It says eight game winning drives, you know,
and all of these fun things. He's not driving the
ball off his right leg right, it's all arm, all
arm action for him. And Warren Sharp just posted because
he hasn't attempt at a twenty plus yard pass yet
this season. No, he isn't he Look, we talked about
(03:04):
him and the Michael Pennick Junior era coming soon. He
is just not the same. Whether it's the injury, whether
it's fitting in with his offense whatever, whether it's mentally, Hey,
I got a guy, I'm looking over my shoulder and
I don't get it. I want to feel like I'm
comfortable here and I'm the guy, and I'm not.
Speaker 4 (03:19):
He's just not the same. He is just not.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
That's why we told you Michael Penick Junior era is
coming soon. You think it's a whole year. He's a
bridge to Michael Pennix And what is it six weeks
maybe less? They started oh to three oh and four
in the NFC South. Uh yeah, I get ready. Michael
Pennick Junior is coming.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
But that only space of comfort in the first half
of the season is that game against Carolina. Yeah, But
otherwise it's it's a slog fest with a couple of
games against Tampa, who went out and got another huge
win yesterday. As we both surmised they would like, there's
nothing easy on the schedule for them.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
So we'll keep you updated on this game because again
Kirk Cousins does have a chance to potentially win this game,
and they do have the ball on the eagle side
of midfield with about a minute left to go. Again,
we'll have more in this game coming up. In a
couple of minutes. But let's go over the big shocker
of Sunday. And look, there were a couple of games
that were big shockers, but nothing bigger than the Saints
(04:15):
blowout victory over the Dallas Cowboys. Now, I'm not a
big believer in the Saints. Even as good as a
Saints are, I'm not a big believer. I don't think
they're that good. I don't think suddenly you get great
in year one to year two when you don't really
add anything and suddenly we're unbeatable. But just throw this
out there, and let me just say, the Cowboys just
(04:37):
might stink.
Speaker 4 (04:38):
All right.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
Now, we told you beginning of the offseason when Jerry
Jones says all in and all in just meant I'm
not bringing anybody in. I'm gonna wait till the last
minute and pay Dak and ceedee lamb. That's all in.
The Cowboys did not get better. They did not bring
in free agents. They are trotting out the same team
that they did last year, and they're expecting different results.
And it is insane to think that you're gonna be
(05:01):
as good as you were a year ago. Everybody gets better,
you know, You don't just bring a team back and
say we even teams that win the Super Bowl don't
bring the same team back. That's not nineteen eighty nine anymore. Well,
we're good for the next five years. We got great players.
You need to continue to get better or you're just
gonna get worse. And the Cowboys did nothing. They stood
still in the offseason, which means, yeah, when you get
time and you get to play a game in the NFL,
(05:21):
it's whoa. Suddenly we're in trouble. And you look at
the Cowboys and you know a couple of things. One
their defense can get got right, is this. You didn't
get carved up by Mahomes or Lamar Jackson. You got
you got carved up by Derek Carr and a bunch
of guys at wide receiver that nobody even knows. Right,
you got carved up by Derek Carr. And you let
(05:41):
Alvin Kamara, who's twenty nine, has that a game like
this in four years? Suddenly he looks like it's it's
twenty nineteen.
Speaker 4 (05:48):
Oh what is it?
Speaker 3 (05:49):
Fifteen possessions, fifteen scoring drives.
Speaker 4 (05:52):
Yeah, it's insured. It was awful.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
So you know, the Cowboys defense can get God and
when you when you break down the offense, what are
they really Dak Prescott and ceedee lamb. They can't run
the football. There's nobody else that scares you offensively, right,
It's not like the Cowboys even five years ago, where
well then go tight end, then go here. No, there's
nobody else because they couldn't pay anybody because they have
so many bad contracts out there. This is a very
(06:16):
very difficult situation for them to deal with. And so
now you look at the Cowboys differently, like I don't
look at them as a hey, here's a favorite, and
we're gonna wind up. We're gonna wind up running roughshot
through the NFC. The Cowboys are now a team where
you know what, they're a team. They're a dangerous team,
and you gotta be careful when you play them. That's
(06:37):
kind of how I look at them. They got a
couple of good players on offense, you got a really
good player, and Micah Parsons on defense. You gotta watch
out for him. But clearly they are gettable on both
sides of the ball. Dak is If you let Dak
have a big day, then suddenly you're gonna wind up
walking away with an el. But that's how I look
at the Cowboys now. It's, hey, it's a danger. They're
a tricky team. They're now a tricky team that when
you play them, Hey, you gotta make sure you got
(06:59):
stuff batten down or DAK and CD can run rough
shot over you. Michah Parsons have a game where he's
got four or five sacks in a game, and that
can absolutely be something that derails you. But that's who
the Cowboys are. I haven't seen anything the last couple weeks.
It tells me, Hey, Cowboys might be No, they're what
we said in the offseason, they're not going to be
very good because they're not gonna be They're not a
(07:19):
team that improved and you don't just suddenly get better
by osmosis. Right, So that's kind of how I see
the Cowboys now. They're a date, they're a danger, a
tricky team to play, and you gotta watch out when
you play them.
Speaker 4 (07:29):
But that's the Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
Yeah, It's it's a difficult thing to just assess, right
because Week one they handled Cleveland, but they didn't finish
any drives, right, it was just Aubrey playing super tow
time and time again with big kick after big kick,
they weren't finishing drives. Ce d got his CD got
his on Sunday as well, But it didn't matter because
(07:51):
you have no answers and we knew the run game
was going to be an issue, right. He didn't make
the decision to bring in Derrick Henry or any of
these other other guys, whether you decided that they were
lesser lesser versions of themselves or not. You're doing your
dollar cost averaging and budgeting and everything else like to
look at it to bring back Zeke Elliott. I mean,
(08:11):
that was as sentimental a move as you possibly can
with no wreck, no possible idea that he was going
to be able to carry it. Ric o'dowdell uh and
and go on down the line. You get you got
nothing there, Douzvaughan Uh, your receiving cors Ferguson gets hurt.
So there goes the tight end that you thought you'd
have the dump off option to. And then Brandon Cooks
(08:33):
flashes on occasion, but he disappears as quickly as he
comes into the forefront. So you know, even having Dak like,
how many games are you gonna out and score a
bunch of points, like it's a lot of it is
going to be can we control enough of the offense
to where we're setting settling for field goals? And what
we saw yesterday was the defense outside of Mark Micah Parsons.
(08:54):
Like you said that he's taken shots at his guys
not doing their jobs already.
Speaker 4 (08:58):
That took all of two weeks for that.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
To disintegrate, right, He's he's already chirping about you know,
responsibilities and minding your space and everything else. That now
we we get into a situation going forward of you're
gonna you're gonna be grind out games against lesser squads.
Be curious to see if they're over under win total
for the year changed at all, because I mean, the
(09:23):
one thing that they do have is the gift of
the division. At this point, exit out about a Fresco
exit swallen down the Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Carmen. So just understand, the Cowboys may stink,
and that that may be what for all this other
The Cowboys may just stink. Meanwhile, what's happening right now
in Philadelphia, Well, two things Squon Barkley is about to understand. Oh, boy,
(09:47):
Honeymoon's only last so long in Philadelphia, Brother Lee love man, Brother,
come on, they love Saquan not anymore. We told you
what happened at the In the last drive for the
Eagles face with a third and three, a rollout pass
Jalen Hurts throwing to Saquon Barkley in the flat. It's
(10:09):
an easy.
Speaker 1 (10:09):
First down and it's right on his hands and Saquon
Barkley drops it. So instead of the game being over
because at that point, Falcons are out of timeouts, that's it,
Eagles a kneeling on the football. Instead, the Eagles kick
a field goal. Kirk Cousins gets the ball back. Falcons
have about a minute forty five. They have a lot
of time left, and I, you know, I look. I
(10:31):
give Kirk Cousins credit. You know, we talked about the
end of the Kirk Cousins era coming. I give him
credit because he got them down the field. But I
have no idea what the Eagles were doing defensive Vangios.
Speaker 3 (10:41):
Suddenly that's gonna be right there on the back of
the fish rap with Saquon Barkley.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
Suddenly, every single wide receiver of the Falcons is opened
by five yards and it's easy pickings with Cousins getting
the Falcons down the field five yard touchdown passed to
Drake London. Drake London then gets called for a celebration penalty.
So this time that was a dumb celebration. Well they
(11:07):
had to do it because if you if you flagged
Jalen Hurts earlier in the game for spiking the ball
after a first down run. Drake London does this celebration
after he catches a touchdown. The ties the game of
twenty one. So now the extra point is from like
sixty five yards away because you know, it's fifteen yard penalty. However,
the Falcons get the extra point. Eagles get the ball
(11:29):
back with about thirty seconds left to go. Jalen Hurts
on the second play throws a pick and the Eagles
snatch defeat from the jaws of victory so unbelievably fast.
I didn't even think people understand what's happening right now.
I turned the game off when it was Dad, we're
up by six or a minute.
Speaker 4 (11:46):
At what happened? What happened.
Speaker 1 (11:47):
This is an absolute disaster for the Eagles, and it's
unbelievable for Kirk Cousins. Because he just saved his job
for at least another couple of weeks. Well, he gave
a team life with the drop. And he's say what,
Barkley catches sixty balls a year, sixty five balls a year.
Speaker 3 (12:02):
That one was about as easy a touch throw from
Hurts as you can get. You get the field goal,
and here he tries to make a big push down field,
still had a time out, still had an opptit and
as we know, everybody's got a super toe kicker anymore,
so you know, smart with the ball, but instead throws
it to the outside and a pretty easy pick sliding
(12:24):
for the Falcons to get this game. But for Kirk Cousins,
I mean, this is now such a huge win. They
immediately went to the Atlanta sideline and you got Arthur
Blank losing his mind and high five and everybody and
they're they're able to steal win. It was not pretty esthetically,
This was not a very pleasing game from Kirk Cousins.
(12:45):
It was great Fanjo's got to answer a lot of questions.
Darnell Mooney was standing my buddy's and then Drake London
with the touchdown reception again scoring.
Speaker 4 (12:56):
Too soon they might be scoring too soon.
Speaker 3 (12:58):
Well, but that's just it, right, Hurts gets the first
down completion over the middle, and like, all right, we're
creeping towards midfield. We might have ourselves a fantastic finish
and then we get the interception.
Speaker 4 (13:11):
So there it is.
Speaker 1 (13:11):
The Falcons win it twenty two to twenty one over
the Eagles, and oh boy, I cannot wait for Nick
Sirianni's postgame spies because couldn't the Eagles have used that
field goal from earlier in the game?
Speaker 4 (13:23):
Huh?
Speaker 1 (13:23):
Could he use that field goal from the first quarter?
Could he use that? This is where things can get
sideways for the Eagles in such a hurry, so unbelievably fast,
as fast as they lost this game. That's how bad
things can go sideways. Because this is that kind of
horrible loss.
Speaker 3 (13:43):
I kind of dig the you know, the the idea
of the Marvel Universe, alternate earths that come out of
those kind of decisions, right, because the game changes materially
one way or another. They kicked the field goal, all right,
we got to kick off whatever it. It creates a
whole new timeline steal from the latest Deadpool Wolverine's Like,
(14:03):
what goes on there? Hey, let's go ride that out
for a while and see how that works. Well, here
it ends with Captain kirk with a great drive, zero pass,
rush able to stand and deliver on his one leg,
and easy throws to the outside where the cushion given
by the defensive backs was just insane and they were
able to march right down the field.
Speaker 1 (14:25):
They absolutely gave this game away to the Falcons. It's
really this is one of those games where if it
happened to the Jets, like when I was younger, because
now it's like, okay, I need my sleep at night.
But it's one of those games where there's games I
remember when I was younger, I would just lay in
bed staring up the ceiling, going, how do we not
convert that? How do we not do this? How do
we not make that catch on third and side? Like
(14:47):
this is that game for the Eagles? How do we
not rush Kirka? How do we make him look so
awful for the first three and a half plus quarters
and then he looks like a world beater on the
last drive. How does Saquon Barkley not make that catch?
How does Nick Sirianni not kick that field goal? Like
that's where that's where I would be, and I wouldn't sleep,
probably until Friday.
Speaker 3 (15:03):
Well, here's the thing. After a while, you became so
accustomed to that, between bullpen failures and decisions with the
Mets and the Jets failures, it was like counting sheep.
So you slept in nice, quiet and peaceful slumber because
you'd become so accustomed to it.

Welcome inside the Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon. Where my goodness, did we just watch?
Speaker 4 (17:27):
What is? What did?
Speaker 5 (17:28):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (17:28):
Let's say this? What did this football game? Haven't common
with Jeremy Irons?
Speaker 4 (17:32):
Oh? What does it happen?
Speaker 1 (17:35):
The Falcons and the Eagles have in common with Jeremy Irons.
Speaker 3 (17:39):
The Falcons pushed the Eagles off a cliff like it
was Mufasa.
Speaker 1 (17:44):
We just come on, So we just saw a complete
reversal of fortune. Oh that's a good one. You let's
go reversal fortune. Yeah, let's get into our Jeremy this loss.
Speaker 4 (18:09):
Let me just.
Speaker 1 (18:12):
Everything we say is going under this umbrella no matter
what the Eagles do the last couple of years, incredibly
talented roster Jalen Hurts. Is terrific that a couple of
the best wide receivers in the game. Yes, now without
aj Brown for a little while, they add Saquon Barkley,
the NFC should be theirs for the taking. Yet I
(18:32):
always feel that they are just one tiny, small step
away from absolute chaos and disaster. And a lot of
that is sewn by how much of a tenuous grip
Nick Sirianni has on being the head coach, the relationship
that Nick Sirianni has with Jalen hurts Uh, and just
what mentally happens if things don't go the Eagles way.
(18:53):
The Eagles are great front runners, right, and that's a
that's a big thing that to to look at the
identity of a team when things are going well. Eagles
are great right when they get out, when they're winning
and they're where everything is great. But when things get
a little weird, when they start losing and make a mistake,
things go south fast, and the Eagles are always one
step away from chaos. Well, congratulations, after this lost tonight,
(19:16):
you have walked into chaos. There was a big door
and there was a guy there checking id's and you're like,
I don't know, I don't have my idea, and then
the game, Oh no, you don't need an ID.
Speaker 4 (19:24):
Just walk right in. Here's the chaos door. Just just walking.
Speaker 1 (19:27):
There's absolute chaos inside, and the Eagles just floated through
the door, turning around looking at their friends, going hey, I.
Speaker 4 (19:33):
Got in, I got in the suckers. I'm gonna go
in and party. I'm going into the.
Speaker 1 (19:38):
Chaos door because the Eagles are in that chaos. I
can't wait to hear from Nick Sirianni. I can't wait
to hear from Jalen Hurts after the show because they
are incomplete chaos.
Speaker 3 (19:46):
Oh Herds throws the interception you have, Sirianni, Vick Fangio's
gotta go meet a microphone or two, I would think
along the way, or or I can't wait to hear
what is said of through somebody else about him. Saquon
Barkley missing the catch that would have sealed the game,
whether he would have run it in and now you
extend the lead, or he slides down. As we we've
(20:07):
talked about so often, the quote smart football play, all
of that stuff. What was interesting is as that drive began, right,
you do the old Hey, this is how many game
winning drives the quarterback has.
Speaker 4 (20:19):
Fine.
Speaker 3 (20:19):
The other graphic for the Eagles was last year they
lost three games where they had a lead inside the
final two minutes as the ball changed hands and lo
and behold, Captain Kirk.
Speaker 1 (20:29):
There's still light over that Jets lost man. The Jets
ended the Eagles era. The Jets Eagles like that.
Speaker 3 (20:35):
I got a couple of nuggets for you though, all right,
fifteen to twenty three, one hundred and seventy one yards
and a touchdown Captain Kirk before that drive on the
drive five of six seventy yards in the score to
go down and take the lead. After the you know,
unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, the extra point sales through, So we
got that and then two other nuggets that came out
(20:58):
of it. Number One, people are already in Philadelphia going, hey,
you know a pass rusher like Reddick, really do you
think he's available? And then the criticism of the broadcast,
You and I have watched it. You if you watch
social media at all, this that it felt like a
Philadelphia love fest. Ad Kelsey enjoy Kelsey by the way
(21:19):
on Twitter, Yes I do wear purple the Lure track
suits all the time, but that it was a Kelsey fest.
Speaker 4 (21:27):
Yet he was nowhere to be seen after the.
Speaker 3 (21:30):
Law No, no, I'm out. They're all like, I'm one
more shot. This game has gone to zero.
Speaker 4 (21:35):
I'm out, I'm turn that camera off. Turn that it.
Speaker 3 (21:39):
Goes off full uh eighties movie stars shot or whatever,
punching hammers out of hand.
Speaker 1 (21:45):
So it would look like the end of Blair Witch
Project where the camera's looking at Mic and she's screaming.
Speaker 4 (21:52):
The camera just hits the ground and everybody's it. So
that's the other ding. Sorry spoiler, And on Blair Witch
Project spoiler.
Speaker 3 (21:59):
It dition to everybody just being mad as hell whether
they bet the Eagles again, ninety three percent of the
money on the money line was Eagles, whether you bet
them with the points spread, all of that stuff. So
you've got the betters that are mad fantasy owners that
I mean, Jalen Hurts get you there. You lost the
points on the reception right on the pass completions you
(22:23):
would have had to Barkley in the yardage, and then
you get the.
Speaker 4 (22:26):
Minus two for the interception.
Speaker 3 (22:27):
Again, the law offices of Mike Hartman are ready to
take your call for your fantasy grievances.
Speaker 1 (22:34):
Now here's the three biggest things. Like I said a
few minutes, goff an Eagles fan, I'm not sleeping tonight.
And these are the three biggest things that are sending
the Eagles into chaos. Number one, first drive of the game,
five to six minute drive. Fourth and four, Nick Sirianni
decides we're gonna go for it and not kick a
field goal. Oh, by the way, you could use that
(22:56):
field goal in a twenty two to twenty one game, right?
Speaker 4 (22:57):
Could he use those three points? Right? Again?
Speaker 3 (22:59):
They just play out just lately. Three more points, but
it's another fifty five minutes of game time and it
changes all the down distance. But here's three point. But
here's three points you had instead of three points you
don't have. If I'm walking down the street and I
there's a wallet there with a thousand dollars in it
and I don't pick it up, yeah okay, versus picking
it up, All right, maybe that doesn't change my life.
(23:21):
But here's one thousand dollars I have where I wouldn't
have had it if I walk right by it.
Speaker 4 (23:24):
Understood, here's three points.
Speaker 3 (23:25):
But again, just just saying the game changes eventually doesn't
negate it.
Speaker 4 (23:30):
I mean, it's still a data point.
Speaker 3 (23:31):
There's no question, and they're gonna be asked about and
sirian he's gonna have to answer to and that point
in the game, why why were you thinking right off
the jump instead of taking the points, like because I
wanted to bury him.
Speaker 1 (23:42):
That's just dumb because it's fourth and four. It's not
fourth and two forty six one. It's not fourth and
what you can do the tush push when they ran
it a couple of times and.
Speaker 4 (23:51):
I did it.
Speaker 1 (23:51):
This is fourth and long ish fourth and four. My
first thought was do they not have a kicker? Is
Brian Dable coaching this game? And they not have a kicker?
Speaker 4 (23:59):
But you know what, they had the perfect fourth and
four play. We saw it in the final two.
Speaker 1 (24:04):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, maybe give me so. I don't
know why they issue the field. It's fourth and four.
It's not fourth and short, not fourth and half the yard,
it's fourth and four. That's a stupid decision, right, that's
stupid by Nick Sirianni. You know what's funny is it
would have the first un points of the game is
shoot is pretty e s e h e w. It's
like Aaron Rodgers playing relaxed and it's got the worst Yeah,
(24:27):
that's true. You can't spell you can't spell shoot without shoe.
Uh so that that decision does not make any sense
and part of the reason why they lost. That's three
points it didn't have. I know it's hard to put
everything on one play, but Saquon Barkley when it's a
third and three with less than two minutes left to
(24:47):
go and the Falcons are out of timeouts, it's a
three point lead, and the Eagles run a great bootleg
play and Jalen Hurts throws to Saquon Barkley who's opening
the flat and he's getting three yards and the game
is over. I mean, the game is over. I can
it's hard to put everything down on one play and
say this, but when you can easily convert one play
(25:08):
and you don't do it, yeah, I could.
Speaker 4 (25:10):
Put the blame on the perfect play. I can put
the blame on you.
Speaker 3 (25:13):
You have a perfect play call and you got the
perfect ball, right, because a lot of times, what do
we see the ball comes out too hot because he
gets excited, right, He's like, hey, I've got the guy
in the flat and all of a sudden, there's no loft,
there's no air under it, whatever, and it's a line
drive into his chest. We've seen plenty of those here.
It's it's got perfect float just just for gotta catch it.
Speaker 4 (25:33):
I mean, you can't like a nice it's new born.
Speaker 1 (25:36):
Come on, Bnby, come on, he's not a receiver that
had to catch it in traffic. This is not a
drop and he had to go up against their o.
This is him something that he's done a thousand times.
You have to convert that. He had a great game,
ran for ninety five yards, caught another twenty yards and passes.
Barkley's been really good. But this is on him because
that's a play you just have to make the rest
(25:56):
of it.
Speaker 4 (25:57):
Doesn't just have to make that was a win? Or
brought you in to be a closer, We look right.
But that's the thing.
Speaker 3 (26:02):
They've had a committee time and time again, and that's
been all finding good and it's run well with guys
like Boston Scott and gain Well and DeAndre Swift when
he was healthy and whatever else. You brought him in
to be the closer as a sledgehammer runner and as
a guy that catches sixty balls out of the backfield
a year. Guess what, there's one he didn't catch fifty nine.
They say the big thing you hear about the NBA,
(26:24):
it boils down to look, it's a make or miss league.
Right for the NFL, it's a catcher drop league. Like
you you have to make that catch. There's there's no
two ways about it. That loss is on Saquon Barkley.
Here's how it sounded on TV the game that the
play that took the air out of the Eagles balloon
and put it all back in for Captain Kirk and
the Falcons ackfield.
Speaker 5 (26:45):
How about that.
Speaker 4 (26:48):
Hurts drop kicks.
Speaker 1 (26:51):
Wow, that's great analysis by Troy Aikman.
Speaker 4 (26:55):
Wow, you have to you'll see it.
Speaker 3 (26:57):
If you haven't seen it, that's a fifteen million dollar
and you're right there.
Speaker 1 (27:01):
Come on and you're gonna say, how do you not
catch that? I mean, this is a veteran who's been
in the game. I mean, this is one of those
that's the play that I see more than anything of
the three big things, with number one being not kicking
the field goal, number two being that dropped and then
the third thing, for some reason, after making Kirk Cousins
(27:22):
look abysmal for the first three quarters and then and
and thirteen minutes of it, when the Falcons get the
ball back, the Eagles just allow all kinds.
Speaker 4 (27:33):
Of room like I always I scratch my head and I.
Speaker 1 (27:37):
Go, I know, Kirk Cousins is having a bad game,
but if you give him five yards a cushion on
every wide receiver, he's gonna find guys.
Speaker 4 (27:45):
And these were Drake Glundon caught the touchdown.
Speaker 1 (27:48):
But this is Darnell Mooney and Kyle Pitts in the
middle of the field. Who are what They're on the
eagle side of midfield in two plays, right, I mean,
this is this is I mean, I'm watching the saying
Eagles are gonna they just think, Oh, we're just gonna
play they have to get in the end zones. We're
just gonna play this out, play the string out. I mean,
they got down inside the ten yard line fast, and
(28:08):
again I got to a point where I was like,
I think they're scoring too early. They're gonna leave too
much time on for Jalen Hurts and the Eagles get
down the field. That's how easy it was. It shouldn't
be that easy. When you are that awful and you
struggle for that long of a time through the first
fifty eight minutes of a game, you don't suddenly turn
into a world beater. And the Eagles made him that
I give. Look, I'll give Kirk Kirk Houses a lot
(28:30):
of credit because I've been on him this the entire
last few months. He did lead them down. He made
the throws he has to, But lots of quarterbacks would
make those throws. I don't know what the Eagles were done.
Speaker 3 (28:38):
But if you're not gonna bring pressure and you're gonna
let him sit back there and he look.
Speaker 4 (28:41):
He doesn't.
Speaker 3 (28:42):
We talked about it last week after the Week one loss,
and then we talk about it here. Is that he's
not driving the ball down the field. So in terms
of twenty thirty yard go routes whenever, we're not seeing
any of that crossing routes and everything else. So if
you're not going to rush him, and you're gonna allow
him to pick you apart with his arm strength from
(29:03):
ten to twenty yards, he can still do that.
Speaker 2 (29:06):
Right.
Speaker 3 (29:06):
He's a veteran quarterback. This guy's seen everything. So if
you're gonna allow him to not have to move off
the spot to test the strength of his legs, to
test the ability to be accurate on the move, he's.
Speaker 4 (29:17):
Gonna do this.
Speaker 3 (29:18):
I want to go back to that second drive, right,
so they exchange punts, Eagles get the ball back, and
the drive that you're mad about the fourth and fourth,
let me go through the whole play calling sequence though
that fin The way that drive ended is that you've
got Barkley running amuck, talking about it nine yards, ten yards,
nine yards unless he needed oxygen, like nobody's business. He
(29:40):
gets the ball down eleven yards, gets into the fifteen.
The next plays Kenneth Gainwell up the middle for four yards.
Kenneth Gainwell up the middle for two yards. They love
giving some reason what incomplete pass to Wilson and incomplete
pass to Wilson saquad Barkley's running amuck and he does
see the ball inside the fifteen, and then there's an
(30:03):
incomplete pass to Goddard that ends the possession. That's the
other part, Right, we can talk about going forward on
fourth and four, but what are we doing and once
we're inside the red zone to where twenty six doesn't
see the football.
Speaker 1 (30:19):
And especially after the way he was dominant, the way
he ran the balls. Four runs were what we talk
about this last week when we talked about Saquon Bracco. Yeah,
but they always find a way to all of a sudden,
Why is gain Well in the game. Why is Boston
Scott getting these garries? Why is Wilbert Montgomery getting these guys?
Montgomery were talking about lett we let's get let let
(30:40):
let's get silly. This give the ball the guys. We
shouldn't be given the ball. This was nothing about Barkley himself.
This was unless he asked out, which I mean, was
Barkley hurt on that second possession. I'll hang up and
listen for your response. Exit out about a Fresco exit
swelling down. The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmen, Live

how they got there. The Jason Smith Show with my

So there's your disaster for the Philadelphia Eagles coming up next.
How did the NFL just change with that Falcons win?
We'll tell you next right here, Jason and Mike Fox

Sports Radio, Fox Sports Radio, The Jason Smith Show with
my best friend Mike Harmon. You know, and sadness first
out and came out. It was a way to tell
rock and roll, hey, we can be dangerous at the
same time, We're not going anywhere, and rock and roll
can be scary and fun and put you on edge.
Speaker 4 (31:39):
I love you all.
Speaker 1 (31:42):
Uh An unbelievable comeback win for the Falcons tonight, the
Eagles hand the game to Atlanta, and we talked about
the disaster that was the Eagles. But now, for a
few minutes, let's talk about how the NFL has changed
for a little bit, because there's two big takeaways for
the Falcons coming off this game. Number one, you know,
(32:03):
I feel like like every fantasy owner last year. Okay,
just give the ball to Bijon Robinson. Just give him
the ball. Why do you not want to give him
the ball? Just give it to Oh look what happens
when you give the ball to Bejeon Robinsons. He averaged
seven yards to carry tonight. He caught four more passes
(32:23):
for thirty more yards. Give the ball to Bejon Robinson.
Speaker 4 (32:27):
Come on, man, guy's got a lot of juice.
Speaker 3 (32:29):
Particularly if you're not going to be able to push
the ball downfield right, try to figure out the balance.
It'll open up a little bit of play action to
give those guys a little bit of room to work.
It's all about buying time until Cousins leg is either
feeling stronger or he trusts it more or whatever's going
on there. But b John Robinson last year the results
(32:51):
were fantastic. You just didn't get the volume you wanted.
And situationally they would go to al Elgier and change
change things up.
Speaker 4 (33:00):
What are they doing?
Speaker 3 (33:01):
Do I?
Speaker 4 (33:02):
Why is out? Dear the game? But again it goes
right in parallel with me. Hey, we've got first first
of goal. We're creeping in.
Speaker 3 (33:11):
And it's like, no, there's Dane Well, It's like, what
the hell are you doing?
Speaker 4 (33:14):
How many times did you have you seen?
Speaker 1 (33:16):
Like wow, what a drive for Bjon Robinson And then
suddenly for some reason he comes out and and Algier
gets the.
Speaker 3 (33:25):
A couple of times, or hey, let's try the flat
pass to Pitts at the line of scrimmage, all of
those things.
Speaker 1 (33:31):
Look, what do we do with Bjeon Robinson is a stud?
Give him the ball?
Speaker 3 (33:36):
More?
Speaker 1 (33:36):
Right, that's one thing you hope happens out of here
because that that's it, that's the key to winning. Right,
you talked about it. Well, Cousins is still trying to
find his footing. Bjeon Robinson's it now. The other big
part because this changes the NFL a little bit now
because this was we talked about Kirk cousins slow start.
If he doesn't play well, the Michael Pennix junior era
is coming sooner rather than later. It will come in
week five, Week six. Kirk Cousins tonight say his job
(34:00):
for the next month. When you look at his numbers,
now looks like he had a great night, right, great
quarterback grating, but you could tell he was shaky.
Speaker 4 (34:08):
So he had that.
Speaker 1 (34:08):
Final drive and now his numbers look really good. It
looks like Kirk Cousins, but he was not great tonight.
But it doesn't matter because final drive got the Falcons
in the end zone and they wound up winning the game.
So he has saved his job for the next month,
which is a big thing for him because you want
to think that as it's going on, he's going to
get stronger, he'll turn back into Kirk Cousins. But he
(34:30):
didn't have a lot of rope to figure that out.
If this was a bad loss by him and he
didn't really get the team in the end zone, it
was going to be Hey, we could be getting to
Michael Pennock Junior even faster. So this changes the NFL
because Cousins now keeps the job for at least the
next month. Becomes a question of how patient or impatient
Arthur Blank would become. Right, Like we talked about with
Jason Lockin for last Hour when it came to David
(34:51):
Tepper and the not so invisible hand.
Speaker 4 (34:54):
I love the memes and.
Speaker 3 (34:56):
All the trash talking going on at restaurants and people
going after Tepper. That's a whole other subplot to this
fun and excitement about quarterbacks succeeding that it had stopovers
in Carolina, but that hook's not not coming quite so fast.
But for Arthur Blank, you know, he's been very upfront
about his own mortality. But just the expectations for this
(35:20):
team and the talent that they and roster they've assembled. Right,
you came in with one of the best offensive line
lines in the game. We talked about b John Robinson
defense that I think everybody agreed on paper was I mean,
we expected more, right, It's like the Bears defense last
year before Montes Swet showed up, Like you expected more
(35:42):
and you expected some turnovers to follow. And whether it
does or doesn't after this that's fine, But for Captain Kirk,
you're buying time in the first month of the season
trying to feel it out right, the old Patriots logic
that the Chiefs now employing some of these other squads
of we're finding ourselves and when you're coming off an injury,
right you're watching this with the Jets. How much can
we push Aaron Rodgers right now in terms of play
(36:05):
calling and what he can do physically? Forget about the
strong willed and and you know, getting you into the
winner circle as he did yesterday. But you know, how
long is that leash? How long do you get to
ramp up before you just say, hey, the clock has
struck zero and we need to make a move. Seventy
yard drive to go kill Eagles fans, absolutely obliterate Eagles fans.
(36:30):
I mean, come on, there's that might be the better
better than the you like that moment touchdown, but the
Eagles I'm just talking from him psychologically, Okay, Sure, the
Eagles fans frothy at the mouth thinking they've owned you
all night, and you absolutely deflate that place to where
immediately they turn on Berkley and Si and fans. You know,
(36:55):
else where do you think that ball goes in his cabinet,
under the stairs.
Speaker 4 (37:00):
In his room. Wait wait, wait in prive it drive.
Wait wait where do you think that.
Speaker 3 (37:03):
Ball goes for Kirk Cousins in in in that room
right there? That's like what's the the floating head in
the haunted mansion for first win.
Speaker 4 (37:13):
With there you had it all ready to go right there.
Uh so there you go.
Speaker 1 (37:17):
NFL has just changed because Kirk Cousins and the Falcons
pull out that win. The Jason Smith Show with Mike
