So we have more big NFL preview coming up in
(00:55):
a couple of minutes, But just this college football note.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
Tonight, right.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
Right now, first quarter, New Mexico leads UCLA fourteen to nothing.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
Jason, there are more people in the studio tonight than
at the Rose Bull right.
Speaker 4 (01:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
I mean they're having that got Texas Rangers party. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
I don't know that to be a fact. I just
know it's true.
Speaker 5 (01:18):
Well, I mean they got a couple of high school
games right down the street, right, yeah, battles there.
Speaker 3 (01:24):
Yeah, and both those high school teams could kick UCLA's ass.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
They're all getting ready to take the field. New Mexico's
only going to play the rest of the first quarter, right,
that's it. But I'm sorry a second quarter New Mexico
leads is shutting out Ucla fourteen nothing. Ucla is driving
because their beneficiaryas of a of a quarterback rush Yamalayava,
is hitting the helmet and they get a first down,
so they're driving. But this is a UCLA team that
(01:49):
is zero to two and already is down fourteen to
nothing to New Mexico in the first half of this game.
It is really sad to see what's happened to us
Lay football in the.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
Deshaun Foster era.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
Like, you know, they had settled into being a nice
eight win team, right, Clearly going to the Big ten
is going to be difficult. And this is more about
a football thing and a money thing, because you know,
the Pac twelve was already difficult enough for UCLA. But hey,
you know, seven eight win team here they are. They'll
win a couple of big games here and there. That's
kind of where they are, not quite the heydays of
the nineties who are going to the rose balls.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
But look, it's not like that every year.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
But now you head to the Big ten and this
is just the first couple of seasons they're getting a
shot at this. And this is even a Big ten game,
you know, five and seven last year, zero and two
this year trailing New Mexico. Now they just get a touchdown,
so it's fourteen to seven. But New Mexico has played
really well offensively. And really it is stunning to see
what UCLA football turned into the last two years.
Speaker 5 (02:48):
Really, I mean you look at just the way the
program has operated, not even on the field, just in
terms of media accessibility, media availability. Deshaun Foster, every time
he gets in front of a microphone, it's a disaster.
Iml Malaiava comes in, right, he's the big bonus baby
nil and the era of good feelings. To steal a
(03:11):
turn of phrase that you like to use, and it's
been as I think of him, seventy three points the
first two weeks. There's no hard nosed football being played
here's and the style points are out the window because
you're getting bludgeoned left and right. So yeah, fight back
here it's out fourteen seven. But long road and we'll
(03:31):
see if they gather any type of defensive structure. But
I mean, they're so grossly irrelevant it's not even funny.
I mean, the road the coattails of USC into the
Big ten as the Pac twelve sinking ship was in
its last bubbling up, and now we're just watching them
get throttled from pillar to post. Recruiting's a bit of
(03:54):
a disaster because you have no vote of confidence in
the way this is being run.
Speaker 2 (03:59):
Yeah, I mean, really it is. It's difficult to watch, man.
Speaker 1 (04:01):
I mean, when you you have a rose ball with
which is the greatest, the greatest football stadium in the country,
and it's you know, and it's it's friends and family,
you know, it's like it's ninety thousand seats. That boy,
at least the field looks really good.
Speaker 3 (04:15):
I'm gonna go with it with garbage.
Speaker 1 (04:19):
But how well do the Lobos travel? Oh yeah, mectually,
they do travel. They do travel. We don't have to travel. Well,
seven other fans could have come and they would have
outwighed UCLA.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
What did UCLA do to you, Frozburg. I feel like
they did something to you.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
Dude. I'm literally watching the game and there's no in
the front row, let alone three rows back.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
No, no, we can't let you up in the front row,
but it will look like there are people here on television.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
No, can't do it. Can't do it. Sorry about that. Sorry,
I mean it's it.
Speaker 1 (04:51):
They settled into being a nice seven eight win team
after a really bad few years in the in the
mid teens. But I mean this is just wow, Like
you feel like all the excitement they had with they
Amalayava coming in and everything that went along with it,
now it's just it's just been utter disastrous.
Speaker 3 (05:07):
They almost suck as much as the Mets.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
Oh I don't know, man, I think.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
Well, I said as much almost.
Speaker 5 (05:12):
Yeah, well, I mean they've given up seventy three points
before this week Mets.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
I mean, what was it a six run first? The
Mets would hit I said almost.
Speaker 1 (05:21):
Yeah, the Mets would hit Ucla pretty well, but you
still they would always would also score in the Mets pitching,
so it would be it would be a dogfight. It'd
be a lot of runs, be a lot of runs
going on. That's would be big, high scoring, high scoring game.
So we'll keep you update and everything going on in
college football again fourteen seven. In that one, Colorado and Houston,
(05:41):
the Cougar is putting the finishing touches on a thirty
six to twenty lead right now over Colorado with about
three minutes left in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 2 (05:48):
More that game coming.
Speaker 1 (05:49):
Up, but part of our big Friday night football preview,
we're taking look at all the big games.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
In the NFL.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
Over the course of the show, we talked about Philadelphia
and KSE Giants in Dallas. Now let's get to the
big war of words, because now Ben Johnson's getting really
chesty following the Bears loss last week and him blowing
the whole kickoff at the end of the game, and
now they got to go play the Lions, and Ben
Johnson is done being told that, dude, you blew it,
(06:17):
Ben Johnson, you blew it. Okay, just just say I
blew I blew it. I blew it, I blew it.
Not chrispy to be fair, Just say I blew it.
I blew it, to be fair. And look he gets
a little chess. Yeah, I like the fire in his belly.
There's no question about it.
Speaker 5 (06:31):
I think by Friday you've already written those stories, though,
didn't you.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
I don't know, man, you know what I mean.
Speaker 5 (06:38):
He's said a bunch of media availability before today.
Speaker 2 (06:41):
Yeah, but Chicago's gonna keep going all the way through. Hey.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
I didn't get a chance to ask you this question
because I was at the Cubs post game, But hey,
what were you thinking on that kickoff at the end
of the game. Sorry if you already said stuff about it,
But any more thoughts on that three days later and
then the next day?
Speaker 2 (06:56):
Any thoughts on that four days later? Any thoughts on that?
Five days later? I'm on raw.
Speaker 5 (07:01):
Saint Brown said he's gonna kick your ass now he's
on offense, So I don't know what that means.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
But this is how chesty Ben Johnson is getting here.
He is from the I mean, maybe wanted to pull
the old guarantee out there. But again, maybe this shows you,
Ben Johnson. We talked about sometimes some people being a
head coach is too much of them. Here's Ben Johnson
talking about what the result is gonna be this weekend
against the Lions.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
This is where we have the Ben Johnson ty shirt.
I know there's a big Rangers party going on in
the studio right now? Can you turn the music down
and slay the bench? This is like, this is like
the part of the party when when what's that Jay said?
(07:52):
We can't hear you see. I know we're watching the
first inning of the Mets game.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
I don't you know what they were having on another
run and hit?
Speaker 5 (08:00):
You know, like you have the venues now where they
get rid phones so they don't disturb the nag they
scored again. It just keeps going in that wee hours
of the night one.
Speaker 1 (08:11):
This is like that moment And I don't know if
it was it was like this obviously now it's different
because there's cell phones and everything. But back in high school,
you know, and I would you know, one hundred and
fifty years ago, like in the eighties and the nineties,
when there was a party going and you know a
lot of people would have party. Hey my parents are
out of town. I'm gonna have a party. Back when
you thought you could have a party and your parents
would never find out, Like they wouldn't just come back
and just say to the neighbors, Hey, how were things.
(08:32):
Oh there were four hundred kids at your house on Friday?
Speaker 5 (08:34):
Night.
Speaker 2 (08:34):
Really.
Speaker 1 (08:35):
Oh he was a huge party. Okay, great, but back
when you thought you could do that. But like it was,
but there's I can't tell you how many times about
a party or some kind of gathering whatever it is,
and the and the landline would ring because you know,
nobody had cell phones, and it was everybody quite quite
quite quiet, my parents, my parents, and there it is quiet,
and then then they answered the phone and then it's
like a five minute cor Yeah, no, just watching TV,
(08:55):
hanging out. I don't know, Okay, all right, great and
you hang up. Every goes Yeah. They turned the music
back up. Yeah, that's what's going on in the studio
right now. It's gonna be hey, hey, hey, guys, Jason's
asker and something. We gotta play this out, all right, right,
turn the music down, Turn the music down.
Speaker 3 (09:09):
You really think we can hear you?
Speaker 2 (09:12):
Well, I had to yell.
Speaker 1 (09:13):
We had had to get really close to the microphone
and tell Tyshirt he was still listening a little bit.
Speaker 3 (09:19):
All that was was loud noises.
Speaker 2 (09:20):
I mean loud now, but it is.
Speaker 5 (09:24):
But in the cacophony of sound, he was able to
break through to get your attention. So yeah, I guess
he accomplished. If you didn't hear a single word.
Speaker 1 (09:33):
Well, the thing is, I mean ty Shirt's girlfriend may
be texting him or any moment, or there could be
someone that wants to sell him some Pokemon cards. He's
got to check his phone. You've got to be close,
so we probably just you know, hey checking. Oh heard
me say that because he was making sure and then yeah,
I was all that.
Speaker 3 (09:47):
Is way more important than a stupid highlight that you're
tossing to.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
Come on, man, it's Ben Johnson guaranteeing will eat Sunday man.
Speaker 2 (09:54):
Yeah, come on, we gott.
Speaker 3 (09:56):
How did John Johnson do against the Packers?
Speaker 2 (09:59):
About his good as the Mets did tonight against the Rangers.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
Jason, he didn't play the Packers.
Speaker 2 (10:07):
I was one. See Jason had to turn his music down.
Speaker 3 (10:11):
And if you still thought he was on the Lions
got him.
Speaker 1 (10:13):
When when you said how he did it, I was
just thinking go on week one, which he did not.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
They did not do well week one. You slipped in
the Packers.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
Okay, you slipped a fastball by me, which is what
de g did to the Mets all night.
Speaker 2 (10:24):
Okay, I'll be ready for that fastball the.
Speaker 3 (10:26):
Next all night it's just seven strong innings.
Speaker 1 (10:31):
Can we get Ben Johnson basically guaranteeing sure to it
this week? Yeah, Hey, here's Ben Johnson A way we're
gonna get it.
Speaker 2 (10:37):
We're gonna go at getting struck out. All right, here's
Ben Johnson guaranteeing a win on Sunday to the baseball
pitch and strikes out beaty to accent a scoreless second inning.
Speaker 3 (10:51):
Is I can promise you that's more entertaining than anything
Ben Johnson's ever said.
Speaker 1 (10:58):
That was the Rangers Radio network on the call at
the podium return party. Ben Johnson said, yes, we're winning
on Sunday, which, okay, that's great, right, I mean, I
think it's awesome that he says that that he obviously
still has confidence. But you know what I said about
him last week kind of goes and that's I don't
know if he's up for being a head coach. The
(11:19):
really bad decision on the on sidekick bad all of
a sudden, getting so defensive.
Speaker 2 (11:24):
We're gonna win on Sunday. We're gonna win to Sunday.
Speaker 1 (11:25):
Dude, you don't go in and guarante you're guaranteeing a
win when you're going on the road to play the Lions,
a team that is hungry for a win. That's not
the time you go and do that. And I get
that you're upset, and I get that you've been taking
it in the teeth the last week, but you know
you screwed up right again. I wonder if being a
head coach is too much for Ben Johnson. And I
got news for you. Things are gonna get worse before
(11:47):
they get better. Right to Sunday's game. Be a little
bit closer than you think, because Caleb Williams was able
to move the football week one.
Speaker 2 (11:54):
They should have won that game.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
They stopped playing when they were up seventeen to six,
and you saw how it went for the Vikings rest
of the way. But Williams moved the football. But Detroit
is gonna go run heavy. They know we need to
pound the football. All the mistakes they made week one
when they got when they got turned out by the
Packers defense, Hey, Jared Goff wasn't really up to it.
They are going to pound the football. It's gonna be
(12:18):
Jamier Gibbs and David Montgomery. It's it's sonic and knuckles
back and forth. And this is how they're gonna win
this game. It'll be closer than you think, but it'll
be the Lions with a win and the Bears go
to zero to two. And I'll give you this bonus,
Jamier Gibbs one hundred and fifty at least total yards
in this game. It's gonna be a heavy Gibbs Montgomery
game when the Lions find their identity and it starts
(12:38):
with this one.
Speaker 5 (12:39):
Jason Smith, delving deep into the prop betting markets, forty
one and a half is your total for this one.
Lions either six or six and a half point favorites
at home, depending on where you're shopping. Big thing for
Ben Johnson and the defensive staff is can they make
it a spot where Jared Goff has to throw, then
maybe you get a bit of an advantage. I like
the chest and what was he gonna say, I'm gonna
(13:01):
go back there and get my teeth kicked in?
Speaker 3 (13:03):
No?
Speaker 5 (13:04):
I mean, look, you're trying to win over a city.
Remember on Monday, what did they do? They celebrated the
fortieth anniversary of Ditka again again, And they'll do.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
It again next week and and the weekend.
Speaker 3 (13:16):
All they got.
Speaker 2 (13:17):
That's all you have is you're gonna say every week,
it's like the Dodgers.
Speaker 5 (13:19):
With what you guys are Chargers fans, You ain't got
much else.
Speaker 2 (13:23):
I mean, it's just like the Dodge every week is an.
Speaker 3 (13:25):
A ton of mob every week, anytime anywhere.
Speaker 1 (13:29):
Eighty five Bears, eighty five Bears. Jason not so much,
eighty five Bears, eighty five Bears, eighty curious.
Speaker 5 (13:37):
To see what they're able to clean up week to week. Look,
this is a long arduous process, man. This is Rome
is not built or fixed in a day. Uh So,
folks have their poison poison pens out, no question about.
I'll take the Bears plus the points to think Detroit
gets the win at home to your point, and the
run game is put go into the soft underbelly, uh
(13:57):
and get to work. We'll see how much healthy you've
got in the Chicago secondary that was something Week one
I would have thought would have been hit on far
more frequently as they were down two starters. I think
you have some success in the short passing game, but
it is the run game that owns it.
Speaker 1 (14:13):

you doing.
Speaker 4 (16:56):
I'm doing this fine.
Speaker 2 (16:57):
How you guys doing well?
Speaker 1 (16:58):
I'm doing Let's see, I've met saying I'm not doing
really well, but I'm also probably doing better than what
is going on in the Colorado Buffalo locker room after
they're lost to Houston tonight.
Speaker 2 (17:08):
So I think I'm doing ok.
Speaker 4 (17:11):
It's yeah, this is not a good night for XPAC
twelve teams. And I think U CLO bounced back and
be fine, but who knows? And Colorado it turns out,
you know, I know it's not really happening right now.
With the Browns, that shit door dude was pretty good
and it kind of gets lost how much he really
(17:34):
meant to be able to running that entire offense in
that team because it's just not the same. They just
don't have the same spark. They just don't have the
same fire. And obviously Travis Hunter he's pretty good too.
This is our and look the Big host better now.
The Big twelve is stronger from top to bottom. And
(17:54):
if you look at what Colorado's got coming up next,
there's not a lot of wins on that schedule and
it might be a really long year.
Speaker 2 (18:02):
You know.
Speaker 1 (18:03):
The thing is, Pete, we talked about this last hour,
and I feel like a lot of this is on Dion, right, Like,
you're three weeks into the season. You have played three
quarterbacks already and given them all chances to win the
job because you're impatient, because you know you're not. You
didn't get Shador Part two when Caden Salter started Week one,
the mistakes at the end of the game and the
(18:24):
final drive where they.
Speaker 2 (18:25):
Didn't use their timeouts.
Speaker 1 (18:27):
I feel like the beginning of this offensively is on
Dion because you're not playing three quarterbacks because of injury.
You're playing three guys because you're just impatient, you're trying.
I mean, how do you build a winning pro how
do you build any sort of consistency when you played
three guys what he has.
Speaker 2 (18:40):
So far this year? And I said this.
Speaker 4 (18:42):
I have a die hard beyond fan. You can't. It's
all frosting, no cake team. It just look you, Colorado
is nothing. I mean, this is a horrible, horrible program.
Was arguably the you know, the worst of the power
programs going. And so what do he do? He took
it from zero to sixty instantly and so as good
(19:05):
as it, you know, that was okay, Well can they
sustain it? Well, it is still a program that's you know,
it didn't win a whole lot and they had a
good little run late last year, but you still got
to build. You still need recruiting classes where you build
the offensive lineman. And there's something we said for you know,
fan basees want the instant fix, and that's fine, but
it's just not going to work like that. Especially you
(19:27):
did get a guy in Caden Salter who was good
at Liberty and did play in a big bowl game
and had a undefeated regular season a couple of years ago.
Uh so, either you got to kind of live through
that and figure it out around him. But that's why
these guys get paid millions and millions and millions of
dollars is to figure out, yes, that's my quarterback and
then you build around him, not just try to say, hey,
(19:48):
let's let's see who's got it tonight, Pete.
Speaker 2 (19:51):
We got a lot of walkover games.
Speaker 5 (19:53):
As much as I want to celebrate the celebrating stuff
out there in Evanston, I mean, you know, big Newton
kickoff will look great, but once that game starts, I'm
not overly optimistic. So let's go to Georgia and Tennessee,
shall we? Four point spread? Georgia favored on the road.
One of the great names of the game, Gunner Stockton
looking to take a next step forward.
Speaker 4 (20:15):
I cannot spell Gunner. I look it up every single
time there. Look, I forced myself long ago when this
whole I, okay, learn how to sell Roethlisberger. Okay, tongue
of ayoa, Okay, I got it. Whoever that quarterback is
for cal forget it, not even quotes. I can't get
that right. And Gunner stocked in all the Jalen and
(20:37):
Jaden's forget it. I'm bad on that too, But Gunner
is it with an E and A. I just whatever.
Speaker 3 (20:42):
But he's good.
Speaker 4 (20:43):
You know, he's not as talent as Carson backed as
this step down in terms of talented quarterback but he
might just be one of those guys that just sort
of turns into a very good college quarterback and works
well with the team around him.
Speaker 2 (20:57):
He and look he runs.
Speaker 4 (20:59):
And so the thing about Stetson Bennett, you know, he
was never going to be anything special, but he was
a runner. He's kind of a baller of a player
and got it a little more to the position. And
that might just be what Stucked and brings to this offense.
And we'll find out. I think this is gonna be
a defensive battle. I don't see a whole ton of
points in this. But all right, Georgia, you need to
(21:21):
find some off and explosion to your passing game after
last year. Let's see if you got it.
Speaker 2 (21:24):
Now, all right, Pete, let's head to the game.
Speaker 1 (21:27):
I mean, the biggest day probably in CW sports history.
They have South Florida and Miami. I mean, it doesn't
get any bigger for the CW than said everybody's favorite
team that is disrespected yet nobody knows who the hell
they are and Miami. Does South Florida have a chance
to win their third big game in a row?
Speaker 2 (21:47):
Or is it Miami getting the W? Is it Michigan?
Speaker 4 (21:50):
Dave frog on the sideline is that. Yeah, look, we've
all been there, we've all worked without media outlets. That's
just a rough watch. It just it's it's a rough broadcast.
It's a rich but okay, let's let's it's on TV.
We can hit mute and you go from there. I
(22:12):
think you know, you see you that's suff I'm sorry,
it's already done its job. I mean Boise State, remember
they have not beaten a Power conference team in like
ten years, you know, but last year there came close
against Oregon and beat everyone else, got to the College
Football playoffs beating Florida. This is gravy time. Whatever happens
against Miami, if they run the table from here, they've
(22:34):
got their Power Conference win on the road. They destroyed
Boise State good enough. Now just beating Memphis on the road.
Win the American Conference championship, and you're in the College
Football Playoff as that twelve seed. So if they now,
if they beat Miami all of a sudden, the overreaction
is going to be, you know, out, it's tough. That sharts,
(22:55):
and they're gonna be ranked number six next week in
all the polls. It's not better, but it's a good program.
This is a program should be in the Big twelve,
massive alumni based, massive student body at Tampa. They have
this natural rivalry with UCF. Everything it has to do
with you know, you want in a program to expand
with the Big twelve. Should have gotten a while ago.
(23:17):
And I don't want to say that they're playing for
that because these kind of business deals go beyond that,
but yeah, they're kind of looking the part of a program.
It's probably ready to make that jump up into one
of the power conferences.
Speaker 2 (23:30):
Now we talked about the polls beat real quick. I
want to are you an AP voter?
Speaker 4 (23:33):
I have me not, No, I don't I do the
Super sixteen poll, but no, I've chosen not to do that.
Speaker 2 (23:39):
But okay, yes, what did you make of that story?
This week?
Speaker 1 (23:42):
You had the one AP voter who voted Florida to
move up to spots this week even though they lost
to South Florida and South Florida wasn't ranked. There was
some craziness with Auburn two like and all of a
sudden she had all this attention for and then said, hey,
what does it matter? It really doesn't matter in the end,
and then it's just for fun and what you what
you make when you heard that story and saw that
(24:04):
fell out today.
Speaker 4 (24:05):
You're not exactly dealing with a whole Algonquin roundtable of
mind here when it comes to you know, look every week,
and how about this. I think in both polls, Mississippi State,
I believe was ranked behind Arizona State in both poles,
even though we're two weeks in and Mississippi State just
beat Arizona State. You know, it's not a whole bunch
(24:27):
of critical thinking, and it's it's the inherent problem with
both poles, and it's a good thing why they actually
don't matter anymore, because think about it. If you're an
AP voter, you're covering you're probably covering a team. And
let's say you are covering the University of Colorado or
name actually bad example. Let's say you're covering Tennessee tomorrow.
You're not watching all those other games. You're covering Tennessee.
(24:49):
You're filing your stories, you're working on Tennessee, and then
you're doing whatever else you're going to do the rest
of the night. You're not sitting up watching you know,
all the late night games and getting the ins and
out of every team. That's kind of the point to
the ap pole is to reach all across the country
and get every all these different various opinions and it
all kind of comes together and hopefully it does work out.
Game of the Coaches Poll. Any coach who actually votes
(25:10):
in this poll, and it's not their sid or someone else,
they ask them about any other college team in the country,
and they can't do it. They just know the team
they just played and the team they're playing next, and
that is it. But all right, you know, it is
a funky exercise. Just play along with it, though, Just
don't just say no, it doesn't matter. Make this matter,
like this the most important thing that's ever happened in
(25:32):
the world, because that's what college football fans want to hear.
Speaker 5 (25:35):
All right, b We've got Texas A and M heading
to Notre Dame. You look at Marcel Reid, what he's
done then put up eighty six points their first two weeks.
Tune ups with the road Runners in Utah State on
the board. Can they go in to South Bend and
give them a scare?
Speaker 4 (25:51):
They absolutely can give them a scare. I don't necessarily
think that they're going to win, though, I've just been
thinking all along that this is when Notre Dame shows up,
because what was the big storyline after week one? It's
that Alabama looked awful. Florida State against Florida State and Texas.
You know who who goes into Columbus, Ohio in the
(26:11):
first week of the season. I mean, I just you
don't do that. These teams just looked like they needed
to tune up, and Notre Dame needed a tune up.
After about forty minutes against Miami and then all of
a sudden, once Carson, you know, Carson Beck had made
his plays. Also after CJ. Carr kind of started to
figure it out, just let it rip. Then they almost
(26:32):
won that it's they came roar. It was over all
they need Iami needs to do is just kind of
run it out a little bit. And what happened instead, well,
you know, CJ. Carr led him back, they tied the game,
and Beck pulled it off late. So I think that's
the Notre Dame you're going to see. They got a
week off the rest up. I think it's going to
be a scare. And then they pull away late and
(26:52):
went by two touchdowns.
Speaker 2 (26:54):
All right, Pete, I'm going to.
Speaker 1 (26:55):
Give you a statement, and you give me if it's
true or false, You're ready go. Florida State and USC
are back.
Speaker 2 (27:09):
Florida.
Speaker 1 (27:10):
USC is back to being on the radar that maybe
they're good, and Florida State is back to being, Hey,
we're one of the top teams in the country.
Speaker 4 (27:17):
Yeah. I'm not going to buy into Florida State quite yet.
Speaker 2 (27:20):
Let's see.
Speaker 4 (27:20):
I mean, beating West Texas A and M I'm just
not gonna, you know, give a whole lot of credit
to But yeah, USC, maybe I I want to buy
it because Lincoln Riley has done it obviously before at Oklahoma,
and maybe something is clicked in here. At the very least,
they have looked the part where okay, that's the explosive offense.
(27:41):
We were waiting Florida USC, and that's the defense. It's supposed
to be getting behind the line and attacking the you know,
the backfield like we were waiting for. But now we
get to see. Now we get to see if this
is for real or not. So I do think this
is a very good USC team. I guess I'm buying
USC a little bit more than I'm buying Florida State.
But look the Florida. Say it's got a lot of
(28:03):
nasty games coming up. USC's got the big ten schedules,
so we will know very too enough who's really who's
not here?
Speaker 2 (28:10):
All right?
Speaker 1 (28:10):
Lastly, Pete, let me ask you this right now, more
people in your house or after UCLA New Mexico game.
Speaker 4 (28:17):
I am well, how about this? I am literally at
doing this while walking around the Michigan State campus. Yeah, yeah,
you know, more there there are more people in line
for this land Shark bar right now.
Speaker 2 (28:29):
We need to get in.
Speaker 4 (28:31):
There are higher roadse Bowl in pasaden as we speak.
Speaker 1 (28:36):
He's on Twitter at pete few Tech. That is at
petefeu tech college footballnews dot com. You're one stop shopping
for everything college football, all the picks, all the prognostications.
On Monday, ten thousand words on Steve Vangeli's Heisman campaign. Pete,
thanks so much as always, Buddy, enjoy the games. We'll
talk to you next week.
Speaker 4 (28:55):
So great, Now, guys, say you, buddy.
Speaker 2 (28:57):
More people outside this bar right now?
Speaker 5 (29:00):
It is a very popular bar. There's no question about it.
They get after it in sparty Land.
Speaker 3 (29:05):
I don't have the numbers. I don't know if it's
a fact. I just know it's damn true.
Speaker 2 (29:11):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (29:11):
The only place I've ever been cut off at a
bar was an East Lansing Really, I got.
Speaker 2 (29:17):
What did you do?
Speaker 3 (29:18):
Curs Magic Johnson out?
Speaker 1 (29:19):
No, no, no, we were at this said he was overrated. No,
we're at this bar is called rum Runners. And we
go and it's my wife and I and her aunt
and uncle who are just like her. It's like her
older sister because they're only a couple of years older
than us. And we went with a couple other friends
and we were just having a good time, right, nothing happened,
There was nothing bad, nothing was terrible, and they but
all of a sudden, the waitress came over and said, yeah,
we're cutting you guys off. Why because you've you've bought
(29:41):
too much alcohol? What do you mean we bought too much?
Speaker 6 (29:43):
Out?
Speaker 2 (29:44):
What are you talking about?
Speaker 3 (29:44):
When when he says alcohol, he means like, forceme off
ice lights.
Speaker 2 (29:48):
You've bought too much alcohol?
Speaker 1 (29:49):
I said, for this table, like, your your bill is
x amount of you've bought x amount of drinks, we
have to cut you off.
Speaker 2 (29:54):
I go, that's a rule. What are you talking about?
What do you mean we kidding? So we got cut
off and they said, we're not bringing anymore anymore drinks.
Speaker 5 (29:59):
Well, you buying the cheap stuff. So they wanted to
bring in some heavy hitters.
Speaker 1 (30:03):
No, it was pitchers and it was food, and it
was like it was we went for a happy hour,
and that's the only place I've ever got I go.
You know, there's times in my life where I absolutely
should have been cut off way more than you cut
off four.
Speaker 3 (30:16):
Come on, they totally cut you off for a whole
nother reason. They just sat that one.
Speaker 2 (30:21):
Why'd they cut me off?
Speaker 3 (30:23):
Question for you?
Speaker 2 (30:24):
Yeah, more strikeouts for de Grom to night?
Speaker 3 (30:26):
Are people at the Rose Bowl?
Speaker 2 (30:30):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (30:31):
Strikeouts?
Speaker 2 (30:32):
Yeah, that's that's the thing.
Speaker 5 (30:34):
Right when you dial it back, it's like, wow, he dominated,
he pitched seventy.
Speaker 1 (30:38):
No, he had two man time not to find out
what's trending right now in the wide world of sports.
Speaker 2 (30:44):
On special delivery, Steve de Sager, who will.
Speaker 1 (30:47):
Begin and only do college football story side because that's
all we need is college No baseball is needed, just
college football.
Speaker 2 (30:54):
Well he's got it all.
Speaker 7 (30:55):
For it in a sense, you are correct. The Mets
did not play again tonight. Someone did tweet out UCLA,
reportedly exploring a move to the FCS Big Sky, to
which the actual Big Sky conference to Twitter handle responded, no,
thank you.
Speaker 2 (31:12):
Wow.
Speaker 7 (31:13):
At the Rose Bowl in his New Mexico leading through us.
Speaker 1 (31:16):
Second, you were saying they're going to try to get
on that TV show Big Sky with Philip.
Speaker 2 (31:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (31:22):
No, no, that would be another loser.
Speaker 7 (31:24):
New Mexico leads fourteen to seven at UCLA as they
go toward halftime, and we do have a game on
Fox TV. Kansas State with two touchdowns third quarter, has
tied it up at Arizona seventeen, all six and a
half minutes to go in the third. Houston is three
and oh after beating Colorado thirty six to twenty. It
was thirty three fourteen and the fourth Cougars went five
(31:45):
for six on field goals. Syracuse sixty six twenty four
over winless Colgate. In the third quarter, the Syracuse lead
was forty five to three. Steve Angeli five touchdown passes.
Speaker 2 (31:57):
Heisman Trophy candidate Steve Angeli.
Speaker 7 (31:59):
If you have a list of two hundred candidates, absolutely
number twenty two. Indiana shutout Indiana States seventy three to nothing.
Indiana State with five first downs, ten punts and only
seventy seven total yards, while the Hoosiers had six hundred
and eighty yards.
Speaker 1 (32:16):
Packers how many points for Kareem Abdul Jabbar. They shut
him down to.
Speaker 3 (32:20):
Wow, Well, he didn't have his goggles, so his defense
he couldn't.
Speaker 7 (32:23):
See all right, maybe he had the touchdown.
Speaker 3 (32:25):
I wasn't looking. I turned back.
Speaker 7 (32:27):
I can't say. I can't say for sure. I haven't
seen the video. Is a Bruder style.
Speaker 3 (32:31):
Steve More eyeballs on Kareem's head or people at the
rose ball.
Speaker 7 (32:37):
I'll have to come back to you on that one.
Packers wide receiver Jaden Reid will have surgery next week
on his broken collar bone. Bill's defensive tackle Ed Oliver
is out this weekend after an ankle injury and practice
Raiders tight and Brock Bowers with a bad knee, misspractice again.
Las Vegas hosts the Chargers late Monday night. Quarterback Brock
Party of the forty nine Ers is officially out with
(32:57):
a toe injury to Major League Baseball. The Rockies are
leading at San Diego for to one in the bottom
of the eighth inning. Only two hits for the Padres
in this one, but justin Verlander and the Giants are
shutting out the Dodgers one nothing in the top of
the six Lander, who's actually been good again the last
month or two five and two thirds scoreless against the
(33:19):
Dodgers starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who allowed a first inning RBI
double but otherwise nothing else seven strikeouts in five innings
for him. They've just ended the sixth one nothing San Francisco.
The Dodgers are first in the NL West, two and
a half games over the Padres. The Brewers are first
in the NL Central, still five and a half over
the Cubs. Cubbies won today six to four against Tampa
(33:41):
Bay e and half with three hits, including a homer.
Milwaukee won at home tonight eight to two against Saint Louis.
The Phillies are about to wrap up the NL East.
It's been a superb week for them, five straight wins
and eight two victory against Kansas City. Even Walker Buehler
got the victory for him tonight. Entering with his ZRA
of about five and a half this year, he went
five innings. So this Philly's magic number to clinch the
(34:04):
division is down to three. I believe it was thirteen
only a week ago. The Mets have lost seven in
a row, lost at homes. That good not good for
the Mets. Texas eight three the final Rangers have won
five in a row, and Jacob de Gram twelve and
seven got the win going seven innings.
Speaker 1 (34:20):
Easy when you start six to nothing in the top
of the first inning.
Speaker 7 (34:23):
It was six runs top of the first against loser
Jonah Tung, who no longer has a four erra Blue
Jays first in the AL, still three games over the
Yankees Toronto, a six to one winner against Baltimore. Yankees
winners at Boston four to one, Aaron Judge with his
forty seventh homer wins for Washington and Miami. That Marlins
win was against Trek Scouble in Detroit eight to two. Schooble,
(34:46):
with a thirteen and four record allowed four runs, came
out in the fourth inning with left side tightness. Wins
for Houston and Minnesota three runs bottom of the ninth,
Minnesota nine to eight over Arizona. Cody Clemens of the
Twins and Cleveland shut out the White Sox for nothing
to win. To Tanner Bye be a complete game two hitter.
Speaker 2 (35:05):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve O.

Speaker 2 (35:41):
He cans, and it ain't Justin Fields.
Speaker 1 (35:44):
That's next right here, Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (35:48):
Well, you did say match last week's performance. I don't
think Justin Fields can suck again like that.

He was great last week. Frostburg shows how much you know?
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith

Speaker 1 (36:43):
So I mean, let's go Jason Smith Show with my
best friend Bke Harbon. Thanks to Pete Futech for stopping by.
Coming up next hour, we'll take a look at some
of the big college football games in the land tomorrow,
but part of the big Football Friday preview, one of
the big game we haven't gotten to yet. Everybody's wondering. Okay, okay, okay, okay.
(37:05):
Last week was fantastic, Right, last week was really really good.
But this week it's a great defense. Can Daniel Jones
really do it again?
Speaker 2 (37:17):
Right? Can he really give you a.
Speaker 1 (37:19):
Twenty nine point day in fantasy and lead the Colts
to another big game against the Denver Broncos. Well, you
think I'm jumping off the Daniel Jones bandwagon after I
built it and I put the tires on it and
I loaded the bus. No, I'm staying on Denver's defense.
Speaker 2 (37:35):
Is terrific. Right, it's one of the best defenses in
the league.
Speaker 1 (37:38):
But this is a really deep offense. And again, how
many times I gotta say this is a really deep offense?
Speaker 2 (37:46):
Right?
Speaker 1 (37:46):
They have so many playmakers, right, Josh Downs last week
maybe the most talented wide receiver on the team, and
he was barely getting any looks. There are so many
mouths defeating now. Tyler Warren right away has jumped into
a big weapon week one yet an incredible debut. It
could be a Sam Laporta type rookie year for him.
The good times roll on, especially at home. He has
(38:06):
another big week and now Daniel Jones will be taken
for real. I told you in the beginning of it,
and going into the season, Daniel Jones takes over, things
are gonna be much better than you think it is
because he just has to run the offense and move
the team may play with his legs once in a while.
Speaker 2 (38:22):
And I'll go even further.
Speaker 1 (38:23):
The Colts get the win and they pull the upset
as Denver stubs their toe. Denver offense needs a little
bit of time. You saw last week, boy, maybe you
should have won by a little bit more against the
Again against Tennessee. But okay, but they made a little
bit of time.
Speaker 2 (38:37):
I'm okay.
Speaker 1 (38:38):
Indianapolis gets up big early in a shocker and they
hold on for the win. Mostly I love.
Speaker 2 (38:44):
The over in this one, right, I'm taking Colts.
Speaker 1 (38:46):
I'm taking Daniel Jones with a big day, big fantasy day,
and I'll take over forty three and a half the
most on this one.
Speaker 2 (38:52):
More points than you think.
Speaker 5 (38:54):
Well even better, he over under has gone down a point,
so you get to steal a point back that way.
Look at it, really, look he said, Now it's a
thirty one.
Speaker 2 (39:03):
And a half. Oh take it the over there you go?
Speaker 5 (39:06):
Yeah, sure, translating different languages as we sit here at
Fox Sports Trail. I mean, the big thing for for
Jones is how much can he play ahead of schedule
and get the run game going with Jonathan Taylor a
little bit of the mix as you get the rookie
behind him. But for Daniel Jones, a big thing making
(39:26):
plays with his legs, so he keep the linebackers moving,
maybe get some throwbacks and get some opportunities over the
middle that as that secondary gets opened up for bo
Nick's a rough, rough start right twenty five of forty
undred two hundred yards couple of picks and they look discombobulate.
They got to go back to the ground game as well,
(39:46):
try to get some balance working there. Narrow road favorite
in this one. It's hard to pick away from the Colts.
For me, I didn't believe in the Broncos with all
of the preseason hype. It's a I'll take the under.
That's for damn sure field goal kicking contest.
Speaker 1 (40:04):
Oh boo, Daniel Jones hater, that's all you just hating
on Daniel Jones.
Speaker 2 (40:08):
That's all you're doing as.
Speaker 5 (40:11):
A guy who's probably advocated for him more in the
long term than anybody. But sure you I don't botch
the wagon now.
Speaker 1 (40:19):
You hate Daniel Jones, you had no Look, you know me,
and you know how much I'm in on the Broncos
because what like Broncos, Chargers, my AFC championship.
Speaker 2 (40:27):
I pick right Denver and Denver in l A. You're
gonna be revisiting that in about a month.
Speaker 1 (40:31):
No, I'm fine with that, but but Denvil, Denver, Denver, clearly, Look,
they're a great team there, and they're gonna be a
great team. It's just gonna They're just gonna get better
and win games machine like throughout the year, because that's
kind of what Denver is. But a little bit of
toa stubbing early on things a little bit more difficult
then I thought it was gonna be for them opening
up and now, hey, is bo Nick still really that good?
(40:53):
Or can they figure Did they figure him out after
a whole year of tape on him?
Speaker 2 (40:56):
Nah?
Speaker 1 (40:56):
They stuck their toe this week and suddenly it's oh
my goodness, look out for real the call. And on Monday,
I'm saying, remember, the Cults are my big long shot
super Bowl pick.
Speaker 2 (41:04):
I had him at six thousand to one. I have
the Cults thousand to one.
Speaker 3 (41:10):
Now, Oh, Michael Conforna, you beautiful human being.
Speaker 2 (41:15):
So I assume Michael Confordo hit a home run ding
ding ding ding ding.
Speaker 5 (41:19):
He didn't strike out right, I was going even for
lower hanging fruit than I thought.
Speaker 3 (41:25):
When you think his career is over, nah.
Speaker 1 (41:27):
I thought he was gonna say like he took ball
one outside, like, oh wow, Michael Confordo. Coming up next,
we preview some of the biggest games in college football,
and the game I can't wait to see the most
