Speaker 1 (00:29):
Greetings, Welcome in side our two of The Jason Smith
Show with my bas friend Mike Harmon, live from the
Tirac dot Com Studios Tirac dot com. I'll help you
get there, an unmatched selection, fast free shipping, free road
has a protection and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tyrack
dot com the way tire buying should be well. When
we last left you, it was a field goal for

(00:50):
the Lions and they were leading thirty to seventeen. Except
hold on a sad hold it, hold it, hold it.
There was a penalty on the play. Kway Walker gets
called for the ever popular field goal defense penalty of leaping.
The field goal comes off the board. It's a first

(01:11):
down for the Lions. A couple of plays later, David
Montgomery and his three point two yards per carry average
gets into the end zone for his third touchdown of
the game. And I'm telling you there's something not right
about a guy averaging three yards of carry continuing to
get the football while the other guy is averaging six
yards of carry and a guy gets three touchdowns. This
is the guy you want pounding the rock between the tackles.

(01:34):
Why not Jamiir Gibbs. Why not Jamiir Gibbs at least
give him the ball? Good listen, we only need three
yards of carry to night, so we're gonna go to
It's an old line that my mom used to use,
So give her a top for Christmas or a birthday
or maybe something that you could use, you know, around
the house, Like no, no, no, and why haven't you used that?

(01:56):
Why haven't you worn that? It's like I'm saving it
for good? Come what if you ever go to that
dinner fancy enough or have people come over, you know
to bring out new cook wear or whatever. I mean,
Come on, I like that shirt? What does it do?
I look at it in my closets in there it
looks so good. You know what, Now it doesn't fit
and I gave it to good. I walked by my

(02:17):
closet every day like a general surveying the troops, talking
to my shirts and pants, and I really like, how
you knowing guys? Maybe you today, Okay, hey hey it
could be you Puma sweatpants, Hockey, Hey, keep your EyeT.
Maybe never haunting you never know you knew met sweatshirt
might want to go you with the coup. My dad
used to do the same thing where we'd just sit
in the closet and then when we next time we'd visit,
he'd be like, hey, here's here's the shirt, like you

(02:39):
have worn the shirt. It's like, so you started buying
stuff to your own, uh, your own taste, knowing that
it was probably gonna be waiting for you upon your
next arrival. But yeah, the the leaping penalty, got it.
You know they're gonna call it. You know that you're
on an island, do you like handly you leapt over?
Can't leap and think maybe they're not gonna see it,

(02:59):
like somehow they're not gonna see holding. Yes, they're not
gonna see when you get locked up. But you know,
Angel Hernandez is gonna see that and make that call.
Of go, oh, there's leaping. You can't do it. You
know they're gonna call it. But if you're in the
middle of the line, you could jump and if you know,
you catch the offensive linemen standing up whatever, maybe you
get propelled up. You know, we get one of those
weird choreographed movie kind of things. But he was on

(03:24):
an island and just jumped over the I'm just to
do it. And when we looked at each other, it's like, yeah,
there it is. You know what happens, you know what happens.
It looks like the game is now going to be
officially in the books. Jordan Love had driven the Saints
down to deep Packers in so I are driven the
Packers as well. But now that he's driving the Lions.

(03:44):
Drove the Packers deep into Lions territory. Couple of big completions,
one to Samari Tour and now he was just picked
at the five yard line. The Lions run it back
for about fifteen yards. They will be taking over first
and ten with about four minutes left to go on
this game with a seventeen point lead. Because now the
touchdown from David Montgomery turned into a three possession game

(04:05):
that was kind of lights out. Packer's gotta get scored there,
would have made it interesting. But Love is picked off
over the middle, and now the line's gonna win this game.
Go to three and one, and I think their magic
number to clinch the NFC North is now two. Oh good,
I think it is. I'm pretty sure winning this game.
It's down to two. Love tries to get it to Watson.
Watson decides he's gonna pivot and try to make another

(04:29):
move to the back of the end zone. And Love
threw the ball on that first move as he came
across the middle, and guess who's there, Tada, there's your
cornerback ready to take it and starts going the other
way now, and now your guy Gibbs is getting some run.
Yeah that's good. Yeah, Hey, that's all right. That's that's
all I care about. Is the numbers looking good now.

(04:49):
The big thing, you know, on the Packers side, obviously,
the the interception huge Once again, they are boat raced
in the first half of this game. That's back to
back weeks a combined forty five to three. They're trying
to channel their inner New York Giants. In terms of
first half play thus far, but you look at the
run game overall, you've got Aaron Jones five carries eighteen

(05:13):
yards and aj Dillon once again in mud five carries
eleven yards. No semblance of a ground game. Yes, Baktiari's
not there. That's just pathetic. I'll tell you it's The
things are okay for the Packers, but wow, are they
gonna see that it's much more difficult to run a

(05:33):
team the way they want to when you need everything
to fire on a cylinder and not just hey we
have some we have some. We have some flaws, but
we have the quarterback to cover it up. But what
the idea was, you know, and we talked about it
first hour and certainly have coming into this season all
through the offseason. You got your run. Jordan Love had
all the work last year while Rogers was on his sabbatical.

(05:57):
We'll just leave it there. And then he comes in
and you're thinking good things and with health of that backfield,
all right, you gonna have balance and definition. Watson returns,
Jones returns and Jones was limited but non factors altogether. Yeah,
Watson caught that touchdown on a busted coverage standing by himself,
a little pick play what have you. But overall, I mean,

(06:20):
if you're not gonna have any semblance of a ground game,
you're done. You're done. You can't cover up for that.
We'll have more on this game coming up in a
few minutes. Again, the Lions look like they're gonna be
able to run out the clock. Here they're up thirty
four seventeen over the Packers with under three minutes now
left to go. So now let's get to the day
in jets, because you know the day, every day that

(06:42):
goes by, things just get worse and worse. Can we
get an open made for that? The day Jay and
it just gets worse and worse. You thought it would
hit the deer, right, that's the worst part in the deer.
The deer is the low part. The deer is low, right.
I know, nicer little got traded yesterday, No, no, no,
But the deer the lowest point of fortunes of a

(07:02):
person or organizing. Harry go, You thought that the deer
was Joe Nama saying I've seen enough of Zach Wilson.
He's a terrible quarterback and I think I could still
throw and I'm eighty years old. You thought that was
a low point. Now, the low point came today when,
according to social media, Breese Hall liked a post that said,

(07:23):
what's wrong with Zach Wilson? Gee? Thanks for all that's
let's stand behind Zach Wilson. No, no, you know, the
Jets players are mad. There's reports behind the scenes they
can't believe Zach Wilson still has his job at quarterback.
Other guys would have gotten benched. What is Robert Sala doing?
And then you had Zach Wilson having to face the
media today with all of this swirling around him, talking

(07:44):
about what he needs to do to make people say
nice things about him.

Speaker 2 (07:49):
And he's passionate.

Speaker 3 (07:49):
He's obviously was, you know, one of the greats, and
so that says an offense. We got to do everything
we can just to try and prove him on, keep
doing what we can and improve.

Speaker 1 (07:57):
I think the guys are feeling very optimistic. You know,
we all believe in each other. We're all right there,
so excited for this week. Dude, Breeze put a post
out there that says, what's wrong with you? Yes, they
have to prove Joe Namath wrong. All right, Now, let
me be constructive here for a second, because you've heard
enough of the last two weeks of Zack Wilson stinks,
he can't get it done. All of these things are true.

(08:17):
The Jets need a new quarterback, they do, but they're
not going to get one for the three or four
weeks until teams decide we're punting on our season. So
what do you do. I'm gonna be positive and constructive
because this is the only way out, and when you're
desperate sometimes you got to take that way. Look at
last week, right the game last week between the Patron
the Jets, the Jets had one drive in the fourth
quarter to cut the lead to thirteen to ten. They

(08:39):
scored because they went fast and Zack Wilson was able
to throw the ball instinctively down the field and they
went to think about it on the Patriot n really
easy and they got in the end zone for a touchdown. Okay,
the other times, what is it? The Jets take a
lot of time calling plays. Zack Wilson is very defensive,
he's not aggressive. I don't think more than four passes

(09:02):
went more than ten yards downfield. It's a combination of
Zach Wilson sucking and it's a bad game plan that
the fact, Hey, we're just gonna try to continue to
hide Zach Wilson. You can't do it. The best thing
I can say is this, you're playing the chief Sunday.
Taylor Swift is gonna be there. The Chiefs are the
defending champions. You're gonna get killed, right. They have to

(09:23):
come into this game that on offense. The the Jets
have to go We're gonna get killed, right because no
matter what our defense does, if we keep running this
crazy ass, stupid offense, we're gonna get killed. So how
about this. How about instead you go a little bit
more up tempo and just let Zack Wilson throw the football.
Let him throw. If he throws six interceptions, he throws
six interceptions, you're gonna lose the game anyway. You know

(09:46):
it's not gonna work babying him and taking him through
and saying, hey, just taking the defense be gus. You
will try to win this game ten to nine. No,
let him throw the football, because that's the guy he
was when you took him number two. Overall, he was
a guy who got outside the pocket with his lefe,
who would make throws back across his body, who would
make throws that no other quarterbacks could make because I
have the arm talent to do it, and the Jets

(10:07):
have beat into him the last couple of years. Don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't.
Don't let him go. Like I said, if he throws
six interceptions, he throws six picks. If he throws four
and you want to take him out of the game
because you don't want him to throw six, take him
out of the game and go to Tim Boyle, then
it's fine. If he throws four picks, you're getting killed anyway.
So you can still save his whatever he's got left
of his of his self esteem by saying, we didn't

(10:28):
leave you out there for six interceptions. We're not gonna
do what we did to Nathan Peterman. So that's okay.
You can do that. Let the guy throw, be aggressive,
go downfield, and just see what happens. That's the only
way out of this for the Jets, because outside of
that is it's just it's a march to all right.
In five weeks, hopefully we're somehow three and four and
we're able to make a trade for a quarterback instead

(10:50):
of being one and six and everything is over and
why are we trading for Kirk Cousins. Now, because we're
one and six, let the guy throw. Let him do
his thing, right, Like Alpachen says at the end of
any given Sunday, Aaron et Cart wants to call these
crazy ass plays, and he goes, ah, let the kid
do his thing. It's not about the kid doing his thing. Nah,
let the kid do his thing. He let the kid
do his thing. At this point, what else are you

(11:11):
gonna do. Let Zach Wilson be the guy you thought
he was when you drafted. Let him throw the football,
go fast downfield, see what happens. Because it's a free game.
You're gonna lose, Son, You're gonna go one and three.
Anyway you lose, the Chiefs are gonna kill you. Make
it something that you can get something out of. And
you gotta can see a home game like that. Let's
go do you did you watch us play the last
two weeks? If you watched his play though, just because

(11:31):
they beat the hell out of the Bears doesn't mean
the Chiefs are all that Okay, the Jets and Bears
would be a really tight two to two game. I mean,
come on, man, yeah, I mean it's a spider Man
meme with the Jets Bronco spider Man. Spider Man, It's okay.
We'll talk more about this as a show going. I mean,
just do it, just do it that way. A field

(11:52):
goal for the Packers has now turned this into a
thirty four to twenty game with three minutes left to go.
Have the on side kit up for the Packers. We'll
have more on this game than other big news out
of the NFL Coming up next? Are the Packers going
to have the football? That's next? On Fox.

Speaker 2 (12:11):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (12:24):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with My best friend.
His name is Mike Harmon. It is over in Green Bay.
The Lions are your thirty four to twenty victors behind
thirty two carries and one hundred and twenty one yards
for David Montgomery. That's like a John Riggins line from
the eighties. Thirty two carries, one hundred and twenty yards

(12:46):
and not that great, not even three and a half
yards of carry. But hey, we still had three touchdowns.
Red James Tyn move and keep the clock moving and
be efficient in the red zone. That's a winning formula.
The Detroit Lions now improved my line. So I told
you we're going to the super Bowl. Look at the line. Hey,
their magic number to clinch this division is down to two.

(13:07):
Packers are two and two. Doesn't matter. The Saints fell
over himself. They have the win over the Packers already.
And you have the other teams that aren't going to
win a game. Yeah, they're uh, they're here. Magic number division.
And the question that I have for Lafleur, are you
guys gonna show up in the first half of the
game or is this really an elaborate plan to see

(13:27):
what kind of kitchen sink is being thrown at you
out of the gate and then responding from there. That's
all I want to know. Something simple. We're live from
the tirerag dot Com Studios, Jason Smith, Mike Harmon. This
hour of the show brought to you by Progressive Insurance.
Progressive makes bundling easy and affordable. Get a multi policy
discount by combining your motorcycle, RV, boat, ATV and more,

(13:50):
all your protection of one plays. Bundle and save at
Progressive dot Com. Cram it up your cramhole the floor.
So every time you say Lafleur, that's what I think
of Jony loves CHUTCHI like you say, hey, Lafleur, I
just think of Ben's still a yelling yeah. And I
always think of when you know, Aaron Rodgers didn't have
any guts to overrule and they kicked that field goal

(14:13):
against Tom Brady and the Buccaneers in a playoff game
football footfall football. Look, the Lions are legit. And for
everybody that thought, well week one against the Chiefs, will
may the Lions they score a on it. By no,
the Lions are legit. They closed last season hotter, as
hot as any team in the NFL. And their offense

(14:35):
is terrific. And it's terrific to the point of without
even getting at what they're normally going to get from
their offense as a season goes on, because still they're
waiting for Jamison Williams. They're trying to figure out the
division of labor with the running backs. And yes, it
seems like, hey, David Montgomery is a guy, you can
trust him. The football sledge has not very dynamic. Again,
now you're three and a half yards of carry, but

(14:57):
Jamiir Gibbs death gets the ball a little bit more.
Williams comes back in week six. Suddenly you got I'm
on Ross Saint Brown and Jamison Williams and Josh Reynolds
who led the team in receiving tonight, Sam Sam for
Jared Goff right now, like there are a couple of
just great throws, but laying his body out making some
big plays downfield. And we've seen that week after week,

(15:20):
that Rams chemistry right there, that Rams Camon all day
MS chemistry. Look, I'm sorry. The Lions are legit, and
eventually we're gonna have to start talking about them as
being one of the top teams in football, like we
talk about the Dolphins, like we talk about the forty
nine ers, like at least up until this past week,
we talked about the Cowboys. The Lions are gonna get
in that conversation. And yes, part of it's gonna be

(15:42):
because the division they play in is not very good.
The Vikings, who knows how close they are to being
able to punt on their season and getting Kirk Cousins
to the Jets. The Bears are a mess. They're more
than likely to get Caleb Williams as they are to
win a game. And as you saw, the Lions are
already gone on the road and won pretty convincingly over
the Packers and went to the rem coming up in
Detroit where they've been playing really, really well. This Packers

(16:03):
team is legit. And it's not that the defense is great.
When you have a great offense like this, you just
need your defense to be just be league average. You
don't have to go crazy, you don't have to be
one of the top five like a team like the Jets.
Need your defense to be in the top three to
try to win a game because your offense is so abysmal.
But that's why the NFL is an offensive league. You
have a lot of offense, just be league average because

(16:25):
if you're league average, that puts so much pressure on
the other team to shut you down. And that's what
the Lions defense is. It's league average, right, It's pretty
Jordan Love. Stat Wise, tonight had a pretty good game. Now,
the Packers couldn't run the football, but this wasn't anything
special the Lions did. The Packers haven't been able to
run the football all season long, so this is not
what we're gonna shut you guys down and we're but

(16:45):
they're gonna make enough plays. They get enough pressure on
the quarterback Aiden Hutchinson another sack and a half tonight.
The Lions are legit and they are an absolute Super
Bowl contender, and people are seeing it now. To watch
the game tonight, you're seeing the Lions. They're not just
a feel good story. They win the first week one
and make fun of the lines for so long. Now
subdly they go from hey, they're a fun story too. Whoa,

(17:07):
Now the Lions are a power man. Look at Jared Goff.
He's gonna get another big contract extension there with the Lions.
We're gonna ending Hooker. He's gonna get another big deal
coming up. Well. One of the big things also is
you know, you're learning both sides of things. Gardner Johnson
goes down with an injury, so you're you're cobbling together
the secondary and kind of twisting that and finding guys

(17:27):
to step up and make plays. But the big thing
for the Lions, and the biggest factor in this game
was you got off to a fast start, right and
the Packers, for whatever reason, that's now the formula first
half just getting boat race time and again. But with
the Lions, if you can suddenly have Hutchinson and these
guys being able to just tee off, good luck, right,
because you became you were one dimensional coming in already

(17:51):
questions of whether your run game was gonna be there.
For the Packers, Aaron Jones cleared to play, didn't know
what he was. They were invisible. And we're talking about
by time you got the halftime, it's the all right,
pin your ears back. Good luck, Jordan Love, you're playing
a little softer coverage, so you know, take the stats
with the grain of assault. Don't tell that to the
fantasy owners. Had an opportunity. Watson tried to make a move.

(18:17):
Love misreddit for that second interception. But the offense will
get better, the time will get better. We've been talking
about this with Philadelphia some of these other teams, right,
Because you're not doing the same reps. You're not going
through the same pace as not doing the preseason reps
of playing full games, half games, whatever. You're not getting
those live reps and getting the timing down, and so

(18:39):
it's taken a little bit of time. It's taking a
couple of weeks. Is that kind of a Does it
rob you a bit as a fan or someone who
watches these games, Yeah, because there's been a lot of sloppy,
pretty terrible football. We were joking about tackling efforts or
lack thereof by some of these guys, like to some degree,
that's just cornerbacks. That's just what they a lot of

(19:02):
guys are. It's the I'm gonna chum up and try
to make a hit on you, and if I don't
knock you out of bounds, you've now bounced off for
another fifteen yards forward before a linebacker chases you down.
But Lions, you're in a really great position right here,
and whatever Jamison Williams comes back and is You've got depth,
You've got weapons at each spot, and Gibbs is only

(19:23):
going to get better. Look out, Lions super Bowl. Look,
I'm not going that far, but i'll give you, I'll
give you the division is certainly going to be a
nice long battle between them and the Packers. Again, they're
gonna clinch next week. Then, clearly the magic number is
two no, no, no name you're trying to do Brian Finley
math Okay, what he was trying to perpetrate on us

(19:44):
the other. Yeah, that's not good math. Fuzzy math. Now
the flip side of it, Jordan Love and the Packers
do we got something for you coming up in ninety
But first it's special delivery. Steve de Seger with what's
trending tonight in the wide world of sports as the
We'll start with.

Speaker 3 (20:00):
The NFL game at Green Bay where in the first
half the Packers offense on twenty two plays had twenty
yards nets Detroit eventually the winner thirty four to twenty.
That halftime lead for the Lions was twenty seven to three.
Detroit's record three and one this season. David Montgomery three
short touchdown runs. He had thirty two carries one hundred
and twenty one yards. Jordan Love and the loss one

(20:22):
touchdown pass and yes, one touchdown run, but also two
interceptions in this game. So the Packers didn't just lose
a game, they lost. Tackle David Bactiari's injured reserve today
after knee surgery, so he'll miss at least four games.
And tonight, Green Bay's young tight end Luke Musgrove left
with a concussion. Cardinals wide receiver Marquise Brown injured his

(20:44):
thumb in practice Giants running back Saquon Barkley, with the
bad ankle, was limited in practice.

Speaker 1 (20:49):
Forty nine.

Speaker 3 (20:50):
Ers wide receiver Brandon Ayuk was limited again with a
bad shoulder. Steelers punter Presley Harbin missed practice again with
a hamstring injury. Pittsburgh had signed punter Brad Wing to
the practice to squad yesterday. He's with a team for
the first time since twenty seventeen. Colts trookie quarterback Anthony
Richardson is still in concussion protocol, as is his center
Ryan Kelly, but both practice today. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes

(21:13):
practice fully after the ankle injury Sunday. Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow,
who's battle to calf injury, did practice fully. The other
two notes the Dolphins wide receiver Jalen Waddle is out
of concussion protocol and Derek Carr, Saints quarterback, miss practice
again with his shoulder injury. The USFL and XFL announced
they will merge, with details about the Spring League coming later.

(21:36):
And college wins tonight for Western Kentucky and Tulsa Tomorrow
night on FS one. It's Top twenty matchup with Utah
at Oregon State to major League Baseball A long night
in New York. The Marlins got two runs in the
top of the ninth for a two to one lead
over the Mets, and with two outs in the top
of the ninth a rain delay that's been going on
for quite some time. It started at nine to forty

(21:58):
Eastern time. Meanwhile, we've got we do have a should
I should say Rangers. They've just hit the seventh inning stretch.
Rangers lead of two to one at Seattle. Here the
regular season ends on Sunday. The Texas Rangers are the
first place team in the AL West, two and a
half games over Houston, four up on Seattle. Already, we've
had a loss from the Cubs tonight again, lost at

(22:21):
Atlanta five to three. Matt Olson is fifty fourth homer
to start the night. The Cubs and Marlins were tied
for the final NL wildcard Marlin's game, of course, it's
not yet done. Toronto and Chris Bassett shut out the
Yankees six to nine. Think White Sox beat Arizona three
to one. But the good news for the Diamondbacks is
with that Cubs lost tonight, Arizona's magic number to clinch

(22:41):
a playoff spot now down to one. Arizona will be
hosting Houston this weekend. And congrats to the Baltimore Orioles,
who won five in a row shut out Boston two nothing. Tonight,
the Orioles clinch the AL East. They get win number
one hundred of their season. You know, the only other
team to go from one hundred losses to one hundred

(23:02):
wins in a three year span was the Amazing Mets
in the nineteen sixties the late sixties. The Orioles have
gone from one hundred and ten losses to one hundred
wins here this year and in fact, just before a
couple of years ago they had a season of one
hundred and eight losses and a season of one hundred
and fifteen losses, still young, still not much payroll, and

(23:22):
one hundred wins in counting in Al's champs and by
winning that division, they are the number one seed for
the American League playoffs, so no best of three wild
card series for them next week, straight to the best
of five division series. And finally, they have yet to
be swept in any series this year, and in fact,
it's a street going back to last year of ninety
one straight series without being swept back to you.

Speaker 1 (23:44):
I had some team the Blander de Sinse and the
Infoy Murray, now Bumbury running out there, Singleton, Yeah yeah, yeah,
just go Danny Ford, right, Mowenstein and Rennick. Oh, now
you're talking. When you get Mowenstein into the mix, TJ tonight,
let it be Lowenstein, Tjen. So you got Lewis Black

(24:05):
posting tributes on social media using words like splendid season,
but then kind of looking like he shuts the camera
off because he looks like he's about to cry. Yeah,
like it kind of hits him of you know, this
huge turnarounds. So we've done it. It's awesome we've done
And they didn't. They agree today to a thirty years.

(24:26):
They made a big announcement, let's strike while the eye,
we're going to win this division. Let's get thirty more
years at this point. But you know what that had
been bubbling in the background, right, and I do these
spots in Baltimore, and they'd ask like, calmer heads have
to prevail, right right, I mean you would like to think,
especially when your organization you still have the ballpark and whatever,

(24:47):
it's historic nature for major League Baseball at this point,
given that it ushered in that new style of park,
but you're on the upswing. I'd like to think they
realize there's some money to be made and leaves for
the next few years. Angelo's can't be that dumb candy
the jay uh don't ask questions you you know the

(25:08):
I know the answer to that, which is why I
chuckled kind of like you do. Mule Tonight Shoe brought

(25:29):
Jordan Love, because there's glass half full, and then there's
a dark side. For Jordan Love and the Packers, there's
a dark side. The glass half full is so far
this season, he is exactly who he said he was
going to be. He was going to be fine in
this offense. He's not going in a passing championship, but
he's gonna be able to move the team. And tonight
second half was pretty good. He ran for a touchdown

(25:50):
through for touchdown through a two unred and forty six
yards The Packers so far two and two, and for
Jordan Love, he gets a pretty good grade because he's
doing exactly what the Packers hoped he would do. Remember,
they built the offense around We want to rely on
other players. Want to be able to sledgehammer run the football.
Have a bunch of wideouts that don't have to go

(26:10):
crazy spending on guys like DeVante Adams. But we want
a bunch of guys that are athletic that we can
go deep with. Maybe you have the one through four
guys are irreplaceable, right or interchangeable. Our number one is
the same as our number four. That's how they wanted
to build this team. And so far, for Jordan Love,
so far, so good. He's had a pretty good first
four games. Now the dark side. The dark side shows

(26:32):
you how hard it is to build a team when
you are okay, having a quarterback that's a league average
ish quarterback, maybe a little bit better. So far, fantasy wise,
he's certainly been pretty good. But when you want to
build your team like this, you got to make sure
that everybody stays healthy and effective, because if not, he

(26:54):
ain't gonna win games. Right. If you want to build
this way and say we want our quarterback to kind
of be the head of the snow, right. We don't
want to go for a quarterback and pay him fifty
million dollars. We've gone down the Aaron Rodgers road. We
were sick of him holding us hostage for the last
couple of years. Now we're moving on. Okay, but now
you see what happens because quarterbacks cover up a lot
of bad things, covering, They cover up a lot of warts. Right,

(27:14):
look at the Patriots. Tom Brady apparently, now we know,
covered up a lot of warts during his time with
New England, and now mac Jones and company can't do it.
Same thing with Aaron Rodgers. Did he cover up a
lot of warts? Packers had? Absolutely so? Now did he
create some others? Oh, you're talking about two of the
last three years with the team he won MVP shwetson proms.
He was the MVP. If you're the Packers, you got

(27:35):
to be able to know. Okay, we gotta be able
to throw the football. We got to be able to
run the football. Jordan Loves got to get outside the pocket.
We got to be able to take advantage of the receivers.
Receivers have to get open we have to play really
good defense all the time because we can't just getting
a shootout. We gotta be able to make sure. That's
a lot of things to ask of a team, to say,
quarterbacks got to be sharp, we got to be able

(27:55):
to run the ball. Receivers have to be able to
be interchangeable. Defense has to play all the time. That's
a lot of things to ask. Whereas a quarter if
you have a great quarterback, it's hey, some games a
defense can suck. Sometimes you don't have to run the
football all these things. What happened tonight, Well, how is
the Packers defense? Packers defense wasn't that great? Now, they
were porous and they got zero support and they the

(28:16):
problem and they couldn't run the football. So you're talking
about two of the things you need to go right
if you're the Packers to win. This is how hard
it is. Defense wasn't great. That makes it hard to win.
And you couldn't run the ball at all, which makes
it impossible to win. Aaron Jones five carries eighteen yards.
AJ Dillon again invisible. This third straight game. AJ Dillon
has stunk. So now if you're you're realizing that's the

(28:38):
dark side of saying we want off of Aaron Rodgers
and off of that ride and we want to go
forward here. Now, it's if you're firing on all cylinders,
you'll win games, but if not, you're gonna lose. And
whereas a quarterback can make it really easy to say, hey,
all this other stuff, we don't have to worry about
running the ball, don't have to worry about this. I
have to worry about that. Hey, defense, you gave up
thirty five points. That's okay, because I put up thirty eight.

(29:00):
That's a bit a lot easier thing to deal with
than to say, okay, let's build the team this way. Yeah,
I give up a lot of big chunk plays on
the defensive side. You know, it's the good effort first
second down and then third and long. Here's a twenty
six yard pass play. Insert your receiver here, whether it
was Reynolds, Laporte had that big catch early in the game,

(29:22):
and then I'm on Ross Saint Brin. I mean, that
was just a good pitch and catch from Golf to
Saint Brown. But you're looking at the offensive side of things,
and that's really where the curiosity is. Not just Jordan Love,
but play calling, operational efficiency. You look at the offensive line,

(29:43):
you're down back tiar, So there's your veteran injured. Remember
when everybody wanted him traded to the Jets, he would
be just as useful to their offensive line, be leaguered
offensive line, as he is to the Packers. Right now,
hopefully it gets well and he's ready for the second
half of the year, But right now you're looking at
a unit back to back weeks that's just absolutely gotten

(30:05):
crushed off the jump, and you got to figure out
systemically why that is. What are you doing in your
play calling, in your sequencing, and just trying to find
the easy throws, easy plays to get into a rhythm. Right.
We talk about that with young quarterbacks especially. We talk

(30:27):
about it with all quarterbacks, but certainly young quarterbacks trying
to get one or two of those easy throws get
you into a game. He missed a couple of throws
early on, and then the defense just got bludgeoned with
big play after big play, and before you know it,
the run game that's already suspect, that's already struggling. Whether

(30:48):
Jones should have been ready and cleared to play tonight
or not. Dylan's not been a factor. So not only
can't you run the ball, now you're getting blown out.
You can't run the ball, So now you're completely one
dimensional and the defensive ends are teeing off right, sending
an extra attacker. And this goes back to the other

(31:11):
part of it is you've got some good young receivers.
You don't have any great young receivers. You don't have
a guy, and that's tough to find. Right where Jordan
Love is gonna throw it up and say go get it.
You can think all these guys, you know, you know,
Dobbs is gonna be good and and Watson's gonna wind
up being good. But these are not guys that you
don't have to worry. You don't have to worry about
doubling anybody. The Jets found out, Hey, we thought we

(31:34):
had a great wide receiver with outside of Garrett Wilson,
everybody else is just kind of there and the Packers
are finding that out. Now we can get by with
these wide receivers. No, you kind of need a guy
that you to be able to either take the top
off the defense or be someone they roll coverages towards.
If your quarterback is not a great passer, and you
have four receivers. They gotta if they're not if they

(31:54):
can't take that step up. That's again, it's so difficult
to build a team that way, and losing must Grove
obviously doesn't help. He's become a little bit of a
safety valve through the first three weeks of the season.
Leaves going into concussion protocol, but certainly for the Packers. Yeah,
there's gonna be some tough sledding. There's gonna be games
like this. Fortunately you'll you'll also still play the Bears again.

(32:18):
Four games against the Bears right now. The unbalanced schedule. Okay,
that's I'm feeling good. We got four in a row
against the Bears. Coming up, game two of this series.

(34:15):
over the Packers, and we've broken down Jordan Love. We
talked about the lines my Super Bowl Lions team. Now
let's get to the big mistake that Amazon made after
this game was over. Did I missed what product? Huge mistake?
Huge mistake. I mean, this is probably the biggest mistake

(34:35):
you can make if you're broadcasting this game. Oh okay,
Like I'm watching Go Joe, this is the bet, Like
it's like a no brainer, Like why would you do this?
Why would you do this? Right? Postgame coverage comes on,
O hey, we got coming up next. We have David
Montgomery coming on set, everything else, Ryan Fispatrick Olives and
they make the worst mistake you can make that If
I was in the control room, I would be yelling, no, no, no,

(34:56):
what are you doing? What do you do? If I
was producer right now, my headset up like I'm in
the Morning Show and I'm yelling at Jennifer Anderson, Alex
what are you doing, Alex, What are you doing? No? No, no,
no Morning Show by the way, completely off the rails. Now,
it's really off the rails. It's been highly entertaining for
me because I like the chaos between the White Lions
completely makes no sense anymore. No, but that's okay. Yeah,

(35:16):
it's not even about the morning show anymore. But I'd
be yelling no, no, no, no no no no no
no no no no no very prominently, very prominent. This
wasn't something they just tried to slip in and say
all about no very prominent, and then at the end
of their coverage they made sure they they showed it again. Yeah,
and I'm like, what what are they doing? They made

(35:39):
a big deal to put up on the set on
the promo after the game is over next Thursday night. Yeah,
Bears Commanders, Here's the question I have for you. Why
would you do that? You want people ahead just say
a mystery team, that's all you do. Another NFL game
next Thursday. Why would you put Bear's Commanders up? And

(36:01):
then why would you put it on the slate right
after at the end, thank you for watching? Next week
is Bears Commanders? Why would you do that? Why would
you do that? Why would you do it? I don't know.
Did you put a picture of Eric b enemy? Solve this?
There's no reason. Listen, there's a picture of I don't know,
pick some Bears luminarya of the past. You might show
up worse. It's not like Taylor Swift is coming to

(36:23):
the game. What are you gonna say? No, it's it's
very difficult proposition. Hey, Mike Dika could show up now,
it's not gonna help anything. Yeah, I mean he could, Nah,
you could, but that's not gonna help anything. Did he
bring the Bear's bus knock knocking out? But here's the
question I have for you. I mean, I really examined
the photo that they put up there. Could you tell
if that was justin Fields before or after his soul

(36:44):
was taken this week? Because lost in all the Taylor
Swift hoopla is the fact that the Bears were terrible.
Yeah no, but I don't think that was justin I
think that was Caleb Williams head inside Bears helmet shell.
This is next, because you know we watched his press
availability the last couple of days. You're looking like a
defeated man, like he was positive first couple of weeks,

(37:06):
we're getting it. And today I had to do a
double take because you had the coaches, especially Luke Gets
He's saying, you know, we're gonna be there. We're working,
We're gonna get to something really special soon. Like, wait,
what goes? Season's not three weeks seventeen? I'm like, what
any of this has given? Look, I like the idea

(37:27):
of hope, hope, spring's eternal, all of that stuff. What
the hell have you seen? Like? I get it positive messages.
You gotta go and be a mouthpiece for the squad,
But come on, man, you can't lie to us. NFL
game tune in for an NFL game next Thursday. You
think I'm telling you. Here's al Michaels when they put
the promo up for the game next Thursday, Bear's Commanders,

(37:51):
this is al Michaels. Hey, here's a promo. Hey the
game is ending. Make sure people know next week, here's
al Michaels talking over the promo that's on the air the.

Speaker 4 (38:00):
Nation's capitol next week, Bear's command Verage on Thursday Night Football.

Speaker 1 (38:10):
He may as well say it's gonna lay out. Well,
say please watch anyway, I mean, he says nothing. He
says nothing. Hey, next week, Bears Commanders. That's where someone
jumps in and says, oh man, I'm excited to see
justin fieldser oh man, I want to see Sam Al. No,
let's hear it again. Listen to the dead air Al Michaels.
What do you want him to say? Let's hear it
one more time.

Speaker 4 (38:31):
Off to the Nation's Capitol next week, Nation's Capitol, peerage
on Thursday night football.

Speaker 1 (38:41):
And that's it. That's it, thought bubbles, cartoons, all of
those things. He did. The Bear want to say the
name of the city because people with clue and all
were getting the commanders. Hey, Nation's capital. It sounds important.
Nations capital sounds where he's at again, Springfield, Nation's capital,
Windy City. Oh, these couple of Titans are gonna meet
Wait what hey, guys speaking of the Bears real quick?

(39:02):
What are the Bears and David Montgomery? You haven't gone?
Oh wow? Same number of touchdowns binga five each?

Speaker 2 (39:08):
Baby?

Speaker 1 (39:09):
Yeah there you go. Hey, let me ask you this.
Where did David Montgomery play last year? I forget where'd
he play last Where did I hope you would stay?
Where did he play last year? I forget it. Oh
that's right, Yeah, Ah, that's right. Next week Bear's Commanders,
please watch anyway. Yeah, the long lead, the Commanders are

(39:33):
narrow one point favorites. I would have put up a
promo and said, hey, at our game next week, and
then I would have shown Taylor Swift Howlight's going. Maybe
Taylor Swift shows up. You want to tune into san
and then very small in the corner, I would have
put Bear's command like on the crawl in the bottom,
Bear's Commanders next thir if ever you needed to start
doing product placement and sales in games, there's slate the

(39:55):
next couple of Thursdays. It's pretty dismal, Mark question, right,
you went take to the game? I win tickets to
that game. Sweet? Maybe just go. Here's people who could
be there, and then you show Taylor Swift and Beyonce
and Katy Perry and Michael Jordan and Lebron Jacks. One
of these people could be there. You never know, didn't
watch a game? What's in the box? Game? What's a game?

(40:15):
It's no good that on Michael's Thay, that's just that's
just money. He's in mid season form or anybody Bears Commanders. Yeah,
I'm done with this watch. Hopefully you can coming up
and actually got more big stuff from the NFL. Keep
it right here, Jason and Mike fuck
