Speaker 2 (00:22):
Give.
Speaker 3 (00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 4 (00:29):
Greetings and welcome in. It's hour two of the program.
Speaker 5 (00:32):
Here on a beautiful Wednesday, calm before the storm is
how we turned it?
Speaker 4 (00:36):
Hour one.
Speaker 5 (00:37):
As the Major League Baseball season begins in earnest tomorrow
opening Day festivity, the White Sox lose yet you know what,
I'm gonna build that website. It's not did the White
Sox win today? Did they lose? Over under up to
fifty three and a half? Fifty three and a half.
Speaker 6 (00:53):
You know, I saw it. It's basically like a record low, right,
something to that effect.
Speaker 5 (00:57):
Yes, I saw there, five hundred to one to win
the World Series. Thanks for putting me in a good moot. Frostbury,
you jerk executive producer Justin Frospering. You can harass him
at Bolts booth, send your love over to Smith Oz's
on his travels at how about a Fresca, And of
course Aaron Torres in his stead tonight as we roll
(01:18):
through at Aaron underscore Torres. We've got Mary Mack holding
it down for the ever vacationing, Alex tyshirt off in
it Ayahuasca retreat or whatever he's got going on. Isaac
Lohenkronn keeping a surprise of the news and notes of
the day.
Speaker 4 (01:32):
As we've got Boston with.
Speaker 5 (01:33):
A sixteen point lead over Phoenix coming up in the
final four minutes of the first half, Denver holding on
to a scant four point lead, Michael Malone getting ready
to blow his top against the Bucks. And then in
the final two minutes here because we've got some other
college basketball action, the n quarterfinal. You see Irvine and
(01:56):
Alabama Birmingham game final minute sixty seven to sixty four.
Speaker 6 (02:01):
Now, I will tell you the reason I'm watching this.
We talked about the portal earlier. I would never back
to back dagger threes. Tie it up. You AB took
a three point lead. Now Irvine did not to get
super college basketball nerdy, but UAB has a player that
many believe will enter the portal and would be the
(02:23):
most coveted portal player. Now, he's good enough to play
in the NBA, so he might go to the NBA.
But as we all know, with college basketball, the way
that things are, the money, with the way that things are,
sometimes it's more profitable if you're not going to be
a first round pick to potentially come back to college.
So that's why I'm watching this because the player, it's
actually the guy with the ball right there, is like
(02:43):
he might be the most coveted player in the portal
if and when he would hypothetically enter. Not that I'm
rushing him in, but I'm just saying.
Speaker 5 (02:51):
Well, I mean he's also got one of the great
names that we've ever had in college.
Speaker 6 (02:56):
Buckets, Yaxel Londonburg. I don't know his background. He's from Jersey,
so he's not like from uh, you know.
Speaker 4 (03:03):
Better name than Ali.
Speaker 6 (03:06):
Just got the Colorado State head coaching job today.
Speaker 4 (03:08):
Yeah, a friend of the show. He's been that is truly. Yeah,
there you go.
Speaker 5 (03:12):
You get one of the crazy buzzer beaters back in
the day, right one on this short list?
Speaker 6 (03:17):
Do you guys still have the competitive eater? Every week
before Fourth of July or was that like.
Speaker 4 (03:20):
No, I think that's been co opted by Ben Maller.
Speaker 6 (03:23):
Okay, wow, Ben Maller stealing your stick huh not your sticks,
I think.
Speaker 4 (03:29):
Say that again.
Speaker 5 (03:29):
Not the first Holster show to do that. No, not
even close. I mean that's a laundry list. That's like
when you have the cable movies running back to back. Sure,
so they shrink down the credits and real fast. Yeah,
that's kind of how things go with bits and stuff.
So you know, it's it is what it is.
Speaker 6 (03:48):
Well, we will not steal your true TV reel or
fake TV show, I promise.
Speaker 4 (03:51):
Well, you know what you have the Smith come running
after you.
Speaker 6 (03:55):
You have the Torres word. I can't believe Smith has
lost two hat sizes. That's like mind bobble.
Speaker 5 (03:59):
It's really kind of frightening when you get down to it.
But yeah, it's working. Well, we're having fun. Hey, broadcasting
live from the tirac dot com studios tirerac dot com.
Speaker 4 (04:08):
We'll help you get there.
Speaker 5 (04:09):
An unmatched selection, fast free shipping, free road hazard protection,
over ten thousand recommended installers, tirac dot com. The way
tire buying should be. Now you got me all you
know bewildered and flummixed by bringing up the futility of
the White Sox as we get into positivity on a Wednesday,
(04:30):
But curiosity in the National Football League air, we've been watching,
you know, the dominoes fall, the quarterback carousel, as it's
so affectionately noted, But.
Speaker 4 (04:42):
The terms in.
Speaker 5 (04:45):
The approach when interviewed by different executives of teams sometimes
leaves you scratch in your head and you start reading
between the lines, and because well that's what we do,
we try to interpret what they're really trying to say,
which might be another game to make down the line.
But quezi ado famenza. Naming JJ McCarthy is the quote
(05:09):
outcome we want. Naming him the starting quarterback quote the
outcome we're headed towards.
Speaker 4 (05:15):
Okay, that's great, I'm there with you. Okay.
Speaker 5 (05:18):
JJ McCarthy missed his rookie year for those unawares. Two
knee surgeries. That's right, two knee surgeries.
Speaker 6 (05:26):
Not that's an important note, Mike, give the audience details,
cause I think that gets glossed over when we talk
about JJ McCarthy. I'm gonna give you the floor, not.
Speaker 4 (05:33):
A hey, you know what we're gonna do a little
clean up later on.
Speaker 5 (05:36):
No, it was a surgery, a bit of a recovery
time followed by another surgery. So the details obviously we
don't have full on you.
Speaker 6 (05:45):
Know how that else whenever surgery happens, they're like, that
was a successful surgery. Apparently that was the first unsuccessful surgery. Unfortunately.
I hate I'm not even trying to be sarcastic, but
you always get the press release John Smith had a
successful surgery, recovery time six to eight weeks, whatever that was,
it's clearly not a successful surgery for J. J.
Speaker 4 (06:02):
McCarthy. Well, you could just go back and revision to
say that was phase one. Good. So then then only
second surgery was phase two.
Speaker 6 (06:09):
There was a plan for two phases with this one,
though it's fuzzy math.
Speaker 5 (06:14):
I guess, yeah, you could always go back, and I mean,
I'm not gonna say the Minnesota books.
Speaker 6 (06:18):
Minnesota twins here two surgeries for the price of one.
Speaker 5 (06:21):
There you haven't there you go one, you know, get
that second eye done free.
Speaker 4 (06:25):
But for a dophamenza quote.
Speaker 5 (06:27):
For me to sit here and say that anything's one
hundred percent forever, that's just not the job. We're responding
to scenarios and different information as it comes. So obviously
things can change, but right now, we're really happy with
our quarterback room and we're going to look to upgrade
it in different ways, which tells me you're not terribly
(06:49):
excited about your quarterback room as it stands here A dopamenza,
of course, responding to continued questions since Aaron Rodgers, while
he met with Pittsburgh for a long period at the
end of last week, a lot of speculation is at
all just now a work to show up in a
grand Pat McAfee appearance to announce his arrival with Steel
(07:11):
Steeler Greats and and Oompampa Band behind him. Maybe, but
while he's unsigned, leaves the door open that the Minnesota
Vikings are still there so he can complete the Brett
Favre TRIFECTA.
Speaker 6 (07:24):
H you know, I'll say this, Mike, I was thinking
about this. I think this is more of a Minnesota
Vikings story than it is an Aaron Rodgers story, and
I think one. I think everybody, apparently except Cam Hayward,
who apparently walked back his comments, everybody else is tired
of the Aaron Rodgers. Will he won't he wear's he
going blah blah blah blah blah.
Speaker 5 (07:43):
Cam Hayward did exactly what Stephen A. Smith did after
the Lebron altercation. Hey, I got talked to by people
that are really important and I need to walk this back.
Speaker 6 (07:53):
Well and yeah, I know that's exactly what happened. And
I wonder if he'll now threatened to fight Aaron Rodgers
the way Stephen A. Smith said that if Lebron had
swung on me, I would have swung back. Okay, Lebron
was so scared the night he hit the game winner. Yeah,
and not only that, he is, Yeah, I had to
make it a game winner.
Speaker 4 (08:13):
For the Lakers.
Speaker 6 (08:14):
Six foot nine Lebron. Yeah, steven A Yeah, yeah, yea.
Speaker 4 (08:17):
I think he was. Steven A would have to work
him inside.
Speaker 6 (08:21):
I just think it's funny. We haven't had a real
NBA brawl in thirty years. But yeah, Lebron's gonna swing
on you, and you're gonna swing back. Okay, it's gonna
be Hagler Herns over there. Okay, what everybody so Aaron
so so with this? So I think everybody's kind of
over the Aaron Rodgers stuff. But to me, this is
more of a Viking story because we don't know what's
going on with JJ McCarthy, right, Is that exactly what
you said, Mike. Everybody's focused on Kenny, like, is he
(08:44):
talented enough to be a starting quarterback for a team
that we know their window is right now? But to me,
I think it's more about the injury and do you
think he's going to be one hundred percent? So obviously
you you you're in a tough spot because you have
a roster that's built to win, now you don't. I
think it's more about the health of the quarterback than
(09:05):
do you trust him as a player, and now you're
stuck in a situation where Sam Donald walked. I mean, listen,
I've been a critic of Sam Donald, but I mean,
you know, all things considered, with Kevin O'Connell, with Justin
Jefferson and everybody that they had, they were a pretty
good team. So I just bring it up because it's
fascinating to me because it seems like the Vikings have
(09:26):
largely backed themselves into a corner where McCarthy probably isn't healthy,
and now they're kind of scrambling to try to figure
things out.
Speaker 5 (09:32):
Because they've done a lot in free agency. They've done
a lot in this off season period to bolster what
was already a really good roster. Right losing Sam Donald
in the end, they decided to shake hands and watch
him walk away. Part of me wonders, and it's something
Bucky Brooks and I had talked about before the season
even ended, after Daniel Jones had joined the Vikings, whether
(09:53):
he might be the next Sam Donald. That O'Connell said, Hey,
I can rehabilitate him the same way. Well, then the
Colts came calling with a much bigger contract. He's gone
yep and away, But unfortunately for him he leaves Indianapolis.
Two of his offensive linemen that he would have had
are now members of the Minnesota Vikings. In free agency,
there you go. They bring back Aaron Jones, you mentioned Jefferson,
(10:15):
You've got Howkinson, You've got Addison, You've got stars that
can play, and a defense that is strong as well.
Obviously a difficult division to navigate right now. Brett Rippen
is your backup. That's where you're at in your quarterback room.
So you're not necessarily maybe maybe Day two draft you're
(10:35):
looking if you're not trusting McCarthy is now your ten
year guy. But outside that, what are you gonna bring
in Joe Flacco? I mean, we're now scraping towards the
bottom of the barrel outside of that Rogers guy or
bringing back Captain Kirk. Alhanda wants to pay the freight, right,
So if you get a deal whereby like when Denver
(10:59):
got rid of Russ wilsoner and they ate eighty five
million dollars knowing you could do the dollar cost averaging
and bring in a rookie quarterback that gets the job done. Right,
Atlanta's got their rookie quarterback, so maybe they grab whoever
may Maybe it's Ryan Tannehill right because there was a
report that Minnesota might be pivoting to him. Maybe Atlanta
(11:20):
gets in that if they can get out from under
some of the Kirk Cousins mess that is there from
when he talked about how hurt he was at Super
Bowl week and then when people tried to press him,
said no, I'm not doing any press, like no, no,
you dropped a bomb, basically saying I was hurt and
that's why you sucked for six weeks, as opposed to
the one touchdown nine interceptions was just a result.
Speaker 4 (11:42):
Of bad play.
Speaker 5 (11:44):
No, no, I was really hurt and shouldn't have been
out there. Well, now you would launch an investigation, right,
did he practice fully? Did he go to all his training?
All of that checks?
Speaker 2 (11:53):
Yes?
Speaker 4 (11:54):
Yes, yes, So now the Falcons get in trouble or
if we're.
Speaker 6 (11:57):
Paying you fifty million dollars, you got to play hurt? Sorry?
But the other I you know, sorry, I have a
Kirk Cousins ramp. But it's two off topic. I won't
even go.
Speaker 4 (12:04):
I just saw your eyes light up when I even
mentioned his name.
Speaker 6 (12:07):
Process the whole this thing still pissed me off. Remember
on draft night last year when they drafted Penix and
he released a statement through his agent like, you know,
I just we were here trying to win a Super Bowl.
But I'm like, dude, you got here ten minutes ago.
And the other thing is one, you're getting paid fifty million,
so shut up. Two you have this is now. Three
(12:27):
you have no equity with this fan base. They don't
care about your feelings. Four you're coming off an Achilles injury,
so you might not be one hundred percent. And five
you signed with the Falcons because they had so much
young talent, so in theory. The reason you signed with
them is that they don't have to spend first round
picks on guys that are plugging play right away. So
(12:48):
he annoys me. I've been out on him ever since.
I have zero sympathy that he got benched. I'm excited
for the Michael Pettocks era in Atlanta, but that really,
as you could probably tell, grinded my gear ground.
Speaker 5 (13:00):
My gears for sure clearly got you fired up, there,
no question about it. But that's the only other option
you've got, right because as you said, and as you
and I were discussing, Minnesota is in a window with
a lot of these guys. It's one to two years
before they're aging out or they need a new deal.
And so the quarterback position, when we's talking about JJ
(13:23):
McCarthy in those terms, tells me they're not sold that
they have what they need in the building right now,
especially when you look at the upgrades made in Chicago Detroit.
Even though they lost a lot of coaches, personnel is
still there. And then Green Bay always good enough to
be a pain in the.
Speaker 6 (13:38):
Neck before we get out of here tonight. Not this segment.
I got to hear your bears takes on the new
coaching staff, that new everything. I'm sure America has hurt
them night after night, but I have never heard.
Speaker 4 (13:47):
We really though I do.
Speaker 6 (13:50):
I'm the host Bears. I call the shots. I said.
Speaker 5 (13:52):
By the way, it's usually Jets talk. I don't usually
get to do a lot of bears. Anybody needs the
Bears takes all right, America needs them, America. I'm going
to look into that camera and I'm going to give
them as we continue. Hey, Jason Cole's gonna stop by.
We're going to talk all things at FL as we continue.
Aeron torres in for Jason Smith. See, he wants my
storytelling America.
Speaker 6 (14:12):

of Bears.
Speaker 5 (14:16):

still hope springs eternal at least for one more day.

Speaker 5 (16:46):
Yeah, get a little bit of relief. But I mean
we had a couple of hacks for that. Just don't
go to the big box store. Oh really yeah, like
you know, the the tjs and some others. We're at
like four bucks a dozen the whole time.
Speaker 6 (16:59):
What's tea, Jason, Oh trader Chill got a sponsor? No,
I thought you said TJ. I thought you meant like
because Ti, Yes.
Speaker 4 (17:06):
I'm gonna send you to Tijuana. Why you get a.
Speaker 6 (17:09):
Guy down to Mexico or something.
Speaker 4 (17:10):
That's not a zebra by the way, if you are.
Speaker 5 (17:12):
In Tijuana, no, my uh it's painted on.
Speaker 4 (17:17):
It's a donkey. That really just changed the entire structure
of things.
Speaker 5 (17:21):
Yeah, I mean I got Torres going down to Tijuana
to get some eggs.
Speaker 6 (17:24):
Just eggs though, just txx, just tax just crazy.
Speaker 4 (17:28):
As it were.
Speaker 5 (17:29):
Well, you know, seventy three fifty four halftime Celtics, Uh,
bludgeoning the suns here as we watch this game. So
now it's time to go to the hot long we
got a guy who's waiting. Yes, there's this theme music,

Speaker 4 (18:03):
Welcome in, buddy.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
I'm thinking of a new song. I got a new song.
Speaker 4 (18:08):
You're working on a new song. Okay, we just got
got used to this one.
Speaker 2 (18:11):
Well, no, I'm not working on a new song. I'm
thinking of a new one for an intermusic okayks conversation. Yeah,
the Tijuana eggs thing, I'm thinking we do Wall of Voodoo.
I'm on Mexican radio.
Speaker 4 (18:23):
Oh that's a good one.
Speaker 2 (18:24):
Oh that's sake. There we go, ke'p going whoa, I'm
on a Mexican radio man, and we are on.
Speaker 4 (18:34):
The iHeartRadio app. Take us with you wherever you go.
Speaker 5 (18:37):
We're global, Jake Cole, a global enterprise here Fox Sports Radio,
which which brings me to yeah, hey, I'm not another
I'm huge.
Speaker 2 (18:47):
I am huge in Burma.
Speaker 5 (18:49):
That's huge huge, Well, which brings me if we're going
to talk about global expansion, what about mister unlimited showing
up days after Jamis Winston as a member of the
York Football Giants.
Speaker 2 (19:02):
God, the Russ cooks and Jabo eats. Is that what
we're saying.
Speaker 4 (19:09):
Those w's maybe let's go.
Speaker 5 (19:11):
I mean, it's a divided locker room in terms of
speech and preaching styles, though definitely different.
Speaker 2 (19:19):
A lot of God. There's a lot of God there,
but they're very different styles, Like I definitely that is
definitely the case. And one of them is believable when
he talks about God, and one is.
Speaker 4 (19:33):
Never Okay, okay, they really.
Speaker 2 (19:35):
Shouldn't do that. I really shouldn't know, tell.
Speaker 5 (19:37):
Me, tell me about the quarterback play. So this means
Travis Hunter is a member of the Giants.
Speaker 2 (19:43):
I would look Tavia center is logical. I mean, they
still could do the Subdursander thing, but like it's already
going to be a bad enough quarterback room with with Russ,
and because Russ is just like he'll make it uncomfortable. Yeah,
I mean, like there's a dog barking in the background,
and he knows how bad this is, but he knows
(20:06):
how uncomfortable it's going to be between Russ and James,
and Jameis won't even do anything wrong, but you know,
like Russ will make it uncomfortable. I can tell you
that right now, like this is a great band aid,
I guess, and maybe they do. They're doing the two
year in March for Arch because I think that I
(20:29):
come back to like, you know, arch Manning is not
I don't think Arch Maning is going to come back
next year. I think I really do think he's going
to take two years, two full years of Texas and
then you know they'll go into the pros, Like I
think that that's the that's the plan. And just knowing
(20:49):
how the Mannings have handled their careers and you know,
the Giants would be a great suitor for him, even
though things sort of ended badly with the Eli Eli
still you know, loves the Giants and you know there's
not going to be a problem there and you know
they can make that work. So maybe they just you know,
(21:11):
like suck it up and be terrible for us, you know,
be mediocre bad with Russ this year, fire day Ball,
be terrible another next year as you rebuild under a
new coach and flush your roster and then you get
Arch in you know twenty twenty six or was it
twenty twenty seven, Yeah, yeah, twenty twenty seven draft I mean,
(21:33):
it's a long way. It's basically a long way home.
But that's what Giants fans are I think are probably
hoping forward this point.
Speaker 6 (21:39):
So to you, Jason, this has nothing to do with
Shador as in because my first thought is when you're
signing not one, but two veteran quarterbacks, you either don't
like Shador or you just don't think he'll be there.
But you think this is more about just, hey, it's
okay to keep sucking for the to get the right
quarterback at the right time.
Speaker 2 (21:59):
Could you imagine Dion's son in the same room with
Russ and wind and Jamis.
Speaker 5 (22:05):
Yes, with Tommy Cutlets sitting in the corner taking notes.
Speaker 2 (22:09):
Wow, I mean like wow, Like that is just there's
just not enough. There is not enough hot air and
helium to fill those those those those brain cavities. Man, No,
there's just no way. Like that is just such a
collision of egos. I can't even imagine what it would
(22:31):
be like having those those three guys in the same
I mean, yes, it would be kind of fun to watch,
but it would be terrible in terms of, you know,
how are you running your team because you would spend
so much time having to to basically nurse all of
them into some state of you know, stre would probably
(22:53):
handle it the best, but Russ would melt down, and
then you would have the inevitable stories that what Russ
and his people would leak out about how he's being
done wrong and the coaches aren't listening to him, and
then Jamis would just say something stupid along the line,
because that's just what Jamis does, and that'll be a
headline for like two weeks, and then she will not
(23:17):
back down from any of it. So there's half a
season's worth the headlines. I mean, I'm you know, I
can I can you know Paul Schwartz could write these
stories right now and and like take half a season off.
Speaker 5 (23:32):
It's kind of like the Jets, the last couple of
a couple of years with the.
Speaker 2 (23:36):
Air, the last the last decade.
Speaker 4 (23:40):
Going to go to the.
Speaker 5 (23:41):
Most recent chapter in that long, sad, drawn out book.
Speaker 2 (23:48):
Gratuitous shots at Smith even when he's away. Well there,
and good luck to young Smith, the young lass that
he's taking up to the barrier to see Cowan Stanford.
I'm very proud of Smith's forging that.
Speaker 4 (24:00):
Yeah, I think he's lying.
Speaker 5 (24:01):
I think he's sitting on his couch getting ready for
Mets Opening Day.
Speaker 4 (24:04):
But that's.
Speaker 6 (24:10):
A tournament in San Francisco, something to do with maybe
he gets up there is he is? He a secret
Texas tech fan and.
Speaker 4 (24:16):
We just don't know about it.
Speaker 5 (24:17):
Well, he has kind of adopted them since his pick
of Saint John's went to the toilet.
Speaker 2 (24:21):
Oh, there you go, Red Red Raiders, Baby, red Storm
Red Raiders.
Speaker 6 (24:25):
There you go, all about the color all coming together
and all makes scene.
Speaker 2 (24:30):
And cardinal red. There you go.
Speaker 4 (24:32):
There you go. Hey, how about your GM firing the coach?
Speaker 2 (24:37):
I had to do. I had to do it. I
have to, you know, like you're gonna set standards, you
gotta set standards right off the start, right off the start.
And you know, Trey Taylor nice enough guy, you know
when I've met him, you know, I don't always like
to work for him. Obviously not pleasant to work for him,
or this wouldn't have happened. But you can't have two
(24:57):
of these, like he's my Every part of this story
is he signed the paperwork on the first investigation on
Valentine's Day, you know, a year ago, not this, you know,
twenty twenty four. The ink wasn't dry on that one
before they started the second investigation in June. To think
(25:18):
about that. You know, he gets the first one and
then he doesn't even go three whole months before they're
calling for another investigation. It's like, it's just not worth it.
You have the guy's down three and nine. Move on,
just you know, start fresh with a new guy who
can be sensible and be an adult.
Speaker 5 (25:37):
Think about that though. Getting a Dear John letter from
Captain Andrew Luck.
Speaker 2 (25:44):
It is with great sadness that I prevail upon you
to let you be aware of my most noble decision
to move on from this unstructured and tattered wayward. How
should we do this organizational theory that we have going
upon us? Is it to read something like that?
Speaker 4 (26:05):
Yeah, it's a good start.
Speaker 5 (26:07):
Yeah, well we'll get that guy with a fiddle behind
it and it'll work out really well.
Speaker 6 (26:11):
Let me ask you a question, Jason, is uh is
Mike Vrable going to be writing a letter like that
when he has to deal with Stefan Diggs for like
the next three year? Like, what did you make of that?
Speaker 2 (26:22):
That was?
Speaker 6 (26:23):
I know they want a wide receiver one. I know
they went after Godwin Stefan Digs off an acl at
thirty one sixty nine, twenty whatever guaranteed.
Speaker 2 (26:34):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (26:35):
I just I got thoughts, but I'm curious for your perspective.
Speaker 2 (26:38):
Well, twenty guaranteed. It's nothing basic. It's a one year deal,
you know, so you can get if it's a problem,
you can get out of it after one year. So
I don't have a problem with it. As long as
if Stefan is angry at other people, you're fine. Like
you can be angry at the bills, he can be
(26:58):
angry at you know, yeah whatever, you know, just he
can be angry at whoever wants to. As long as
you're not angry at you and taking it out on
you, you're okay. If he's angry at you, it becomes Giant Paine.
It's sort of like Jimmy Butler. Sure, and with like
every stop in Jimmy Butler's career is like everything's you know,
(27:21):
the first like year that Jimmy or even two years
that Jimmy Butler is somewhere, it's all good, right, and
then something happens that pisses him off, and all of
a sudden, like he's just angry at everybody and he's
taking it out on everybody and he becomes it becomes unworkable.
(27:42):
Well let's see how long it lasts in New England.
And I'll say this, Stephan's got some you know, I'm
sure he wants the money out of this, and he
knows that his age. There's not a lot of other
suitors out there. I mean the fact that this is
only a one year essentially a one year deal in
terms of the guarantee, and they can they can you know,
(28:05):
dumb him immediately if it's a problem. He's going to
have to be on his best behavior if he wants
to see you know, most of that contract. So I
don't think this is that bad a deal. I mean, again,
Stefan is Stefan and we know what the deal is,
but he's under control in this situation.
Speaker 5 (28:24):
Do they double down with all the cap space they've
got and bring in Tyler Lockett too?
Speaker 2 (28:30):
I think that they're just guys out there, like Locker
will be there. There's you know, there's still a bunch
of other guys. You can wait and you can get
Lockett for even less than that. I would think at
this point, isn't lock of the guy who you bring
in for like eight million dollars on one of those contracts.
It's sort of like what what the Bills did with Bosa.
(28:50):
You know, they went up a high as twelve because
they had to. They had to get up higher than
Miami and San Francisco because Miami and San Francisco I
think we're between eight and ten. And the Bill said, look,
we understand it's Buffalo. So here's an extra two million dollars,
you know, come on up. And so he did it
for that. So but I think that you know, with
(29:11):
a lock it and you can wait a little bit longer,
especially wait at this point. You wait until after the
draft because you got the one guy. You're okay with that,
and then see what see what happens in the draft,
play it out, and then if lock it, if you
need lock you can go get him at that point.
Speaker 5 (29:25):
And when the players and their agents get desperate to
get that next check.
Speaker 2 (29:30):
I mean the surprising thing I mean, I mean, I
think that the other thing with Diggs is like he's
working out on a regular business because he's rehabbing, right,
he doesn't have to necessarily practice. What you find with
most veterans is they don't want to find now sure
because if you sign now, you have to go through
the off season program. Fair boy, you're you would rather
(29:53):
just sit and rest, and you probably come come to all,
you know, an agreement. You say, okay, look, you guys
want me, I'm not going to you know, you fishing
around for another deal, and you have a nudge dunch
of wink wink, and you say, we'll sign this thing.
You know in it can be late May, it can
be June. I'll show up for the last two weeks,
you know, I'll make sure I know the playbook, but
(30:16):
just don't wear me down, or we'll do it in July,
just before camp. But most guys don't want to sign now.
I mean, their bodies are too beaten up, and teams
know what it's about. So teams are likely to say, okay, well,
you know, we'll well, we'll let it go a little bit.
You know. The one exception here in the case of
the Patriots is you've got a young quarterback who needs
(30:39):
to work with this guy, and so you have to
you have to look beyond that. You know, to me,
I wouldn't want to do that with a young quarterback.
I would rather have my receivers in and I'm already
making exception with Digs, who's not going to be able
to practice with him during the off season. But we'll
have them ready by the beginning of camp.
Speaker 5 (30:57):
He's a legend. He joins us each and every week,
proud Stanford man. He heard his analysis on the firing
the coach, new GM, the power and authority of Andrew Lucky.
Are you gonna write that book? Now?
Speaker 2 (31:13):
I was going, Actually, I'm being a retrospective.
Speaker 5 (31:15):
On Oh okay, good right, I'll look forward to in
the form of a.
Speaker 2 (31:22):
Pamphlet forty years after the fact.
Speaker 4 (31:25):
There you go.
Speaker 5 (31:26):
You know, he's been operating out a ten year, one
sandwich deal for a long time with us. He's Jason, Jason,
I've been ripped off than the NFL players. Oh, come on,
I'll send you more booze and pizza. Pizza, low brother,
have a good week, Jason Cole always with us here.
(31:49):
Smith's always talked about, hey, get your sandwiches like it
always comes out of my wallet.
Speaker 4 (31:54):
Oh yeah, I keep him applied with booze and food.
Speaker 5 (31:58):
No questions, Mike, I'm going to be honest. Yeah, better
when you pay for it. No, well, there's no question
about it. There's no question about it. It's all about
positively and love, just like our band in the news desk,
It's time for some Isaac Loewencron, Why thank you nobody?
Speaker 7 (32:15):
Time for some excitement in the NBA. Earlier this evening,
the Indiana Pacers, holding a one to nineteen one eighteen
lead over the Los Angeles Lakers in the final seconds,
cover for two.
Speaker 4 (32:27):
To the wind.
Speaker 6 (32:31):
Count the crown chains at the puzzer.
Speaker 7 (32:35):
It did count the call on ESPN as Lebron and
the Lakers w one twenty to one nineteen.
Speaker 2 (32:41):
It's always tricky when you know you kind of touched
the ball, you kind of see to the rail light
around the backboard, and you don't quite know if you've
got it all the time. I thought I had it
on time, but you never know, you know sometimes.
Speaker 7 (32:50):
Luca Dodgers had thirty four points, his fourth consecutive thirty
plus game. He also had seven rebounds and seven assists.
Denver defeated Milwaukee seven to one seventeen. Niko Lejokich's thirtieth
triple double of the season thirty nine points, ten rebounds,
ten assists. The Bucks played without Giannis Antetokoumpo, who is
out because of a sprain the left foot. The Boston
(33:12):
Celtics playing without Jason Tatum because of a sprain left ankle,
but they won at Phoenix. They're leading at Phoenix rather
by twenty five, ninety to sixty five. Midway through the
third quarter. In the NIT quarterfinals, you see Irvine in
overtimes held off Alabama Birmingham eighty one to seventy seven.
(33:33):
It'll be the and Eaters if you see Irvine against
North Texas in the semi finals next Tuesday at Hinklefield
House in Indianapolis. Earlier, Loyal the Chicago defeated Kent State
seventy two to sixty two. They will take on Chattanooga
in the other semi final.
Speaker 4 (33:49):
Guys, back to you, Thanks I Loo.
Speaker 5 (33:51):
As we continue here in the Tirak dot Com Fox
Sports Radio Studios, Aaron Torres in for Jason Smith.
Speaker 4 (33:57):
I'm Mike Carbon, Thanks for being with us, being part
of the family.
Speaker 5 (34:00):
Thanks to Jason Cole for stopping by Todd Furman with
us next hour talking all things odds and ends. But
there is one bet that I wanted to get everybody's
opinion on deal or no deal. Would you take the
cash off the table? We'll talk about it next here
on Fox.
Speaker 3 (34:17):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 5 (34:25):
Welcome back Fox Sports Radio Jason Smith Show with Me
Mike Carmon. No Jason Smith for the remainder of the week,
taking himself a little break as he gets ready for
the long arduous met season and a season of arguing
with Frostburg about the We know he had no pennant.
Speaker 6 (34:41):
We know why he's really taking a break. He's clearly
going to watch Texas Tech in San Francisco.
Speaker 4 (34:45):
Clearly.
Speaker 6 (34:45):
I mean that's that's we just got designed that case.
I mean, there's nothing else to really just like that.
Speaker 4 (34:50):
We figured it out. There was no question.
Speaker 5 (34:52):
The place he's going in San Francisco is to that
chocolate factory.
Speaker 4 (34:56):
Oh we did that when we when the Super Bowl
was there. That is true. We we did a bit,
I remember correctly, Mike. It was. It did get a
little bit creepy.
Speaker 5 (35:06):
He found a little spot in the back that he
thought he could set up a cot and just kind
of hang out. But uh, fortunately we're able to get
him back in u into the fray at Aaron Underscore
Torres where you find him find me at Swollen Dome.

(35:54):
as we get ready for the Sweet Sixteen, we'll get
back into the college basketball fray. We had a great
n thriller here in overtime with the ant Eaters, but
we get the Sweet Sixteen kicking off tomorrow, so we'll
use and pick the brain of Aaron Torres as we
try to navigate. You know, if you have a second
chance bracket kind of turn challenge maybe you're looking for
(36:17):
a little help wagering. Todd Ferman'll join us next hour
to talk about that as well. But what's been interesting
to watch is the number of people, really the people
that are most complaining coming out of the early rounds.
Not because Cinderella is not there, not because you didn't
get your buzzer beaters. No, it's all the Vegas casinos.
They're pissed because all these parlays are still alive, sure
(36:40):
right with all of the favorites chock rains, which means
a lot of liability still sitting on the books as
we get ready for these games. And I saw one
parlay that really was next level here and it gets
into the deal or no deal kind of variety.
Speaker 4 (36:58):
It was a five bet parlay.
Speaker 5 (37:00):
Okay, Tennessee Volunteers NCAA World Series winner Division one Baseball
plus six fifty they hit, they won Los Angeles Dodgers
World Series plus three hundred.
Speaker 4 (37:12):
Oh the cash Ohio State buck guys plus four fifty.
Speaker 6 (37:16):
This guy's good.
Speaker 5 (37:17):
Philadelphia Eagles plus sixteen hundred.
Speaker 4 (37:22):
And Duke.
Speaker 5 (37:24):
Duke at eleven to one. So I'm curious when this
was would have been placed in terms of there.
Speaker 4 (37:30):
Had to be what day June.
Speaker 6 (37:32):
It had to be before June, because that's when the
College World Series was.
Speaker 4 (37:34):
All right, so.
Speaker 5 (37:35):
We're talking long ago. Weay it comes back to the
duke at eleven to one. Seems curious. You think it
was two lower two.
Speaker 4 (37:43):
I think it was a little too high. I would
have thought they were frock.
Speaker 5 (37:45):
I would have thought they were a little more of
a fire five or six or thereabouts either way, eleven
to one. So this five dollars bet, the UH plus
three million, three hundred and sixty five, nine hundred five
dollars is live for a one hundred sixty eight thousand
dollars payday.
Speaker 4 (38:08):
One sixty eight to three.
Speaker 5 (38:10):
Now I saw a report that the you know, the
deal or no deal, little Howie Mandell coming out giving
you a fist bump kind of thing would get net
him about fifty k if he walked away right now.
Speaker 4 (38:21):
So I take the fifty k and run.
Speaker 6 (38:24):
So I'll be quick on these two thoughts. I would
take the fifty k. But if he had the foresight
in June to bet the Philadelphia Eagles and Ohio State
and all of the maybe he knows more than we do,
but I would take the for a five dollars bet
the return on investment, I would take the fifty k
walk and never look back.
Speaker 4 (38:43):
Frostburg, Oh easy, the fifty k. I don't think Duke's
winning at all.
Speaker 6 (38:48):
Even if you do, is it, is it worth triple?
Speaker 4 (38:50):
I mean if you if you do and they are
going to win it, then you just roll with it.
Speaker 6 (38:54):
Well, I think the thing is like if this was
the Final four, maybe it's a little bit. They got
to win four more games, four more games.
Speaker 5 (39:02):
And there's really good teams they got to play.
Speaker 6 (39:05):
There's no uh, that's there's.
Speaker 4 (39:07):
No going to our early early discussions, right.
Speaker 6 (39:10):
Yeah. The the underdog Cinderella is John Caliperi's team that
has a bunch of NBA players. I know they're on
the other side of the bracket, but I'm just talking
about hypothetically. I'm with Frostburg. I sell because I think
that's a big variable. You have four more games and
again you're gonna be playing good teams all along the way.
I I have to sell.
Speaker 4 (39:28):
I'm sitting right now.
Speaker 5 (39:29):
They're minus one eighty five for the Final four, plus
one ten to be a finalist, plus two twenty five
as the champ. Mary taking the money and running right?
Speaker 6 (39:38):
Is that a question?
Speaker 5 (39:40):
I just wanted to we get those brackets off. And
no question.
Speaker 6 (39:47):
You've never seen cool running.
Speaker 5 (39:49):
So you see me run nicely done. That is well played,
Isaac Low and Crown. You're taking the fifty grand? And
how are you investing it?
Speaker 7 (39:57):
Saying, by the way, good cool runnings.
Speaker 4 (40:00):
Yeah you know that.
Speaker 7 (40:01):
You know it was in that movie. John Candy, the
late great John Candy, played their their coach.
Speaker 5 (40:08):
Who I really thought you were gonna get me an
obscure guy from a little deeper on the call sheet.
Speaker 7 (40:12):
No, no, no, no, I was, I was.
Speaker 5 (40:15):
I was hit my wrapt attention because I'm going to
rewatch of NYPD Blue And in the early episodes there's
David Schwimmers got an arc, And there's Richard uh and
the guy that would play Jigsaw, and and Hank Dean
Norris is in there. So like all in one episode,
all these guys show up the best of them all
the needle he threatened to Oh, he's threatened to kick
(40:38):
everybody's ass.
Speaker 7 (40:39):
Unfortunately, I'm looking at the credits for Cool Runnings and
the only other name I recognize is Doug E.
Speaker 4 (40:44):
Doug lea Leon. Oh oh, he was in that movie. Yep, oh, okay,
there you go.
Speaker 6 (40:52):
He's the Starbobs Letter of all the Popsletters.
Speaker 4 (40:55):
I'm going to have to rewatch that movie.
Speaker 7 (40:56):
I remember that.
Speaker 4 (40:57):
There you go. We'll have a group of viewing of
that later on.
Speaker 5 (41:03):
Nicely done. There you go, there's the squad. Everybody's taking
the cash. I'd be figuring out a way to hedge
get take my fifty k off the table and give
myself maybe a little bit of action to keep the
profits rolling in with the limited exposure. Of course, as
we continue talking about the fun storylines after the first
(41:23):
weekend of the tournament, not all is dead.
