Speaker 2 (00:24):
To Fox Sports Radio. Hello.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
Welcome inside an incredible final minute of the National Championship Game,
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon live from the
tire Rack dot Com Studios, Houston and Florida. The Cougars
lead at sixty three sixty two with forty five seconds
left to go. However, believe Florida's going to the free
(00:52):
throw line. Houston had the ball with a chance for
a three or four point lead, and it gets stripped
down low. Martin goes in for the lake up and
loses the handle. Uh so he's so uh. They wind
up turning the ball over and now Tuggler's fouled out
with five points for Houston to watch and the intensity
(01:14):
down low. There's no question who got a rebound when
he comes down for so Houston turns it over down
the other end, Martin comes down, gets fouled. He's at
the free throw line. He has made the first. This
would be a Florida lead. A Florida lead in a
game where they should have lost by fifty. Uh. They
could go up sixty four to sixty three with forty
(01:34):
six seconds left to You gotta give their defense some
credit to I mean, come on, yeah, no, I'm Houston
shooting thirty four point eight percent from the field, six
to twenty five from three point right, you know what
this is? This is This is gonna be and and
and the free throw is up in good sixty four
to sixty three, time out on the floor with forty
six and a half seconds left to go. This is
gonna be one if if Houston somehow finds a way
(01:56):
to lose, it's gonna be Yeah. Hey, where's all you
defense wins championships? Guys, what happened? All you got?
Speaker 2 (02:03):
Give out the number? Give out the number.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
Guys all loved Houston on Saturday against Duke Right and
everything they did. You guys loved him all day. You
loved him in the first half when they were beating
them bad and they couldn't score, and Rich could, nobody
could score. Everything, everything's fired, right, But now, where's all
you defense wins championships? Guys? Because clearly his defense and
(02:25):
they couldn't win a championship. And they'll say it just
like that. Is that my favorite voice? That that might that
might have been the best. I don't think that that's
good for life, I mean long term, that's what you
would sound like if you keep trying to do that
in shotting to be here, shot to be here, shot
that's throat. You might as well rip it out. The
defense wins championships, guys? Where are you with all you
(02:46):
defense wins guys? I don't care. I don't care. You're
all the guys that say your quarterback you could win
with Trent Delfa, Right, You can't win with Trent Delpha anymore.
You need offense to win. You need guys like Clayton, who,
even though he's zero for four, doesn't in the first half,
he still scores eleven in the second half and still
nearly a triple Doublely find a way to win. Where's
all you defense, guys? Where's all you guys? Now? The
(03:09):
other squad plays defense too, so all of it coming down.
I mean, Houston twelve point, their biggest lead of the night,
and now it's Baskets at a premium. What do we
always say, It doesn't have to be aesthetically pleasing. Just
give me a game that's closely Yeah. No, And it's
been a better game the last seven or eight minutes. Yeah.
For a while it was just boy, what a bad
(03:30):
game it was. And now another bad possession. Houston loses
the ball out of bounds. They're gonna look at it,
but it looks like, ooh, off his knee, that's gonna
be Nope, that's gonna be off Houston. That's off his knee.
It's gonna be Florida basketball. And now Houston's gonna have
to foul. Uh, it's a one point lead. That's gonna
(03:51):
wind up staying Florida basketball. After the official review, let's
get another official records left to go west Woo one
on the call right there. Wow, that that's amazing. I mean,
that is that is a That is a that's two
possessions in a row where they've tried to take it
down low and they've got it and they got the
ball stripped. Florida's biggs have changed and flipped this game.
(04:15):
Over the course of the past seven or eight minutes,
they have absolutely flipped this game. Look, Sharp goes in,
he turns it over, it goes off his knee, Like
what when when Florida decided, all right, it's really it's
really not Clayton's night. Now Clayton still is delivering the basketball,
he's scoring a little bit, but it's not his night.
(04:35):
They've decided, you know what we need to do. We
gotta go down low. And now they have been standing
tall defensively. They've made a few plays down low as well.
You see a lot of shot clocks that were taken
down to the end where the Bigs get open for
layups underneath. Florida's biggs have really fit their Their presence
down low has really flipped this game the last seven
Condon's doing a great job in the interior in altering paths,
(04:59):
dribbled dry and certainly shot alteration a long way, much
like we talked about with the Houston Biggs on the
other end. So good job, and a lot of it
decided in the paint because again Houston, to their credit,
and been shooting terribly from the outside. Recognizing you got
to work the interior, and then on the Florida side,
you had what do we say, three four guys in
(05:19):
foul trouble. You've already seen on a fallout situation for Douglas.
So now it's becomes the how do you finish off
the twenty six to five? Can you break what was
a suffocating press? Do you have the guy to inbound
the guy that do couldn't find on their bench the
other night? Where's all your defense wins championships? Guys? Well,
(05:41):
you got twenty six point six to decide. By the
way the number of official reviews and screen times these
guys have gotten over the course of the tournament, it's maddening.
Every ball that gets contested near an end end point
on the court is let's go to the review. Let's
say a look, I heard more from Jeene's sterotor than
my family. I've heard more from Jean's sterotory than when
(06:04):
he was doing football, and that's what he was getting
paid for. Yeah, let's go to Jeans. Jean's gotta be
going come on, you guys are killing me, man. Yeah,
they're gonna look at it all right, fine, Yes, the
ball looks like it's out of bounds. Well, at least
in football you can have the excuse that Jean didn't
want to throw the guys he worked with all those years.
Not that there isn't cross over here, but it's not
one to one, and they might have said, hey, you
(06:26):
gotta at least give us some verbage here, Gene, I
might have been speaking a little too soon when I
say how good the game has got in the last
seven eight year. That's because Florida up by one and
they have the ball. They have trouble inbounding the ball,
nearly throw it out of bounds. Whoever, the ball gets
run down by Aberdeen, who has just missed the first
free throw with twenty seconds left to go. So it's
(06:48):
still a sixty four to sixty three lead. So the
last ten seconds not the greatest. He makes the second
time out on the floor, nineteen and a half left
to go, sixty five sixty three. Now Florida wi the
lead over Houston, who has the basketball for a potential
game tying or game winning three. Although I got to say,
if I'm Houston, I'm not banking on the game winning three.
West Wood one on the cold nin have fourteen from
(07:10):
the fall line are the Cougars. Tonight, you're looking at
Florida seventeen and twenty one making the most of their opportunities,
both teams shooting abysmally from outside, six and twenty four
for the Gators, six and twenty five from Houston. So,
if I were a betting man, maybe I am, at times,
I'd be saying that there's no way that someone's just
(07:30):
chucking a three unless they're standing by the go ahead,
take it, unless say, unless they get the Caitlin Clark
defensive treatment go ahead. This might be a I don't
want to know. I don't want it, man, I can't
make any we can't make it. And that's the thing
about a game like this that is so defensive oriented,
like there's no gimme the ball.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
I'm ready.
Speaker 1 (07:48):
Look like Cryer is the leading scorer, but he's six
for eighteen. Yeah, right, there's nobody that that Houston can say,
I'm hot, man, give me the ball. I'm hot, I'm ready,
I'll take the shot. And that's a thing, right, you
want to be able to have that that shooter's confidence
at the end of the game, and clearly you've given
away a big lead. Florida has it I know that
Florida has too much. Just sit back and say, yeah,
go ahead. Shoot, you're not gonna make it, so go ahead, Like,
(08:10):
I don't know, you have nobody on the floor right
now that can make a shot. Francis might be the
only guy because he's probably gonna come in with Tugler
foul out. You got three for thirteen, three for eleven,
six for eighteen, two for nine. This is how This
is the stats of the Houston starters and what they're
shooting tonight. But the game is good for one more
(08:32):
dream shake, you got it. They gotta let him on
the court though. Yeah, well they're gonna, They're gonna. I'm
sure you either get it to the team, you get
it to Ralph Samson and something might be able out
there down Yeah, got Clyde Drexler two, a little bit
of fly see friends, is it really gonna have a
lot of juice? It just goes the wrong way? Yeah,
I mean Houston down to they do have the basketball
(08:54):
again with twenty seconds left to go. Uh. Florida, who
looked like they were in so much trouble beginning of
the first second half. They had five fouls in the
first two minutes, and all of a sudden they just
reeled in Houston who was unable to make a shot,
and they just sit at the point now where they
are about to win the national championship. Because, oh my goodness,
(09:17):
that is the most amazing end to a game ever.
That is a very that is a very apropos ending
to this game, which is worse. Wow, the Florida Gators
are your national champions sixty five sixty three in the
ending of a game that Okay, look, this is the
play we're going to talk about for the next three
hours because of how absolutely bad it was. Like we
(09:41):
were saying, what do you do if you're Houston, you
have nobody with confidence about taking a shot. You have nobody,
nobody that can make a shot. So you have twenty
seconds left. Houston takes their time, They can't even they
can't even get the ball into the paint. And the
end I'm gonna try my best to explain how this
game ended. The clock is ticking at about seven six
(10:03):
seconds left to go, and they get the ball to sharp.
Right when I say it was a guy who says
they get the ball to sharp and sharp looks like
he loses possession. Going up for a shot. Okay, yeah,
so he goes up, he goes up for a three.
It's again it's a bad possession by Houston. They clearly
(10:23):
had nothing going on, so they're settling for what's gonna
be a really bad three. And Sharp goes up with
the shot, but one of the Florida biggs, I can't
tell who it was, comes over and gets in his face.
So he comes down, he comes down, Clayton comes flying in.
That's Clayton comes flying in, and so Sharp realizes, I'm
(10:44):
I don't think I'm gonna get this off. So he
lets go of the basketball to let it hit the ground.
Now he can't be the next guy to touch the
ball because that's traveling. So the ball bounce is bouncing
on the ground and no one is doing anything, and
the clock and the clock is ticking off. There's four seconds,
three seconds, two seconds. Finally Alex Condon comes out of
(11:05):
nowhere to dive on the ball for Florida. He grabs it,
the clock hit zero, and Florida is your national champions. Hey,
we talked about the bad game that Clayton had. He
makes the play of the game there because getting in
Sharp's face. Sharp shied away from the shot. Right again,
when you're not hitting shots, you don't have confidence. This
(11:26):
is the kind of result you get. But he gets
in his face the ball. He drops the ball to
hit the ground. He's hoping one of his teammates can
come to come grab it, tries to box hand. Yeah,
and Florida winds up jumping on the ball and they
are your national champions with a final play that We'll
watch it forever, but it's never going to be sent
to love and any kind of video on this is
how to play basketball goes up there with the call timeout.
(11:48):
Let's go back to the Michigan Wolverines all those years ago.
Let's put it up on the metal stand, because I
mean he literally just drops the ball to the court
and then tries to box out, trying to get one
of his teammates to come over. Realize he can't touch it.
So just the oddest end, but appropriate.
Speaker 3 (12:06):
Right.
Speaker 1 (12:06):
We watched a rock fight, and it was a good
rock fight, all right. The final second half gave us
some thrills. The fact that it was only a three
point game at halftime. You kept wondering how Houston wasn't
burying them, because they can shoot and then if they'll
end the last spot, just a defender flashing at you
causes you to drop the ball. This is one I
(12:27):
wish him well because he's gonna lose a lot of sleep.
Stay off your socials, all of those. What a horrible
way to end the game. I mean, by the way
they fought this entire year, I mean all the hallmarks
and for it to come down to that that end.
But you think about the way the game went again
and go back to the fact that here's Houston. No
(12:48):
one's been able to make any shots with any sort
of consistency or confidence in the last fifteen minutes. So
whatever play you drow, whatever Kelvin Sampson drew up, clearly
Florida was ready and Houston was not because they could
whatever wherever they were trying to free up to get
the basketball, they couldn't and they couldn't get the ball.
You just need too You don't need a three to win,
You tie and go to overtime. Right, you don't need
(13:09):
to worry about it, right, you have that, and instead
you wind up panicking. And oh, by the way, we'll
get to the panic aspect of things coming up in
the next few minutes. Okay, Houston fans, but that's a
play that is entirely predictable because this was how the
last few minutes of the game unfolded for Houston. And
when you can't make shots and you don't have confidence,
(13:30):
that's the kind of play where you have a player
go up for a shot and not even confident I
can get the shot off. It's going to get blocked,
so I'm gonna let the ball drop like that. That's
a play where mentally you are just completely shot. If
you were Houston, and if your Duke fans, you're getting
to your keyboard as fast as you can, Like Jason
is here momentarily to respond to all those Houston fans

Eh, here we are.
Speaker 1 (17:17):
I'll tell you now there's some big things. First of all,
congratulations to the Florida Gators. Who we are. Basketball school
now clearly clear, basketball surviving advance basketball school. Yeah, I
mean football great run basketball school. Yeah, but this is
the one. This is the win for the Joe Kim
Noah's of the World's his style of the game man,
Corey Brewer, Sure, yeah, well a few a few more
(17:39):
points in this game, but in the other well yeah, now,
first things first, we're gonna play the final call again.
It's a it's a final play. You're gonna want you
know what this play is kind of like this play
is kind of like Minecraft, the movie. Okay, so we
want to see Minecraft this weekend. And Minecraft was so
incredibly bad. Anybody arrested at yours?
Speaker 4 (17:58):
No?
Speaker 1 (17:58):
No, no, someone got arrested?
Speaker 2 (17:59):
What you had to say? No, no, I haven't seen it.
Speaker 1 (18:01):
All those videos going around and cops having to come in,
particularly for one or two scenes. Yeah, it was so bad,
but it was It was the special kind of bad
where you want to talk about it after. I want
to talk about how it wasn't just that movie sucks, man,
this was this movie was so bad, but you want
to talk about it. You want to talk about Jack
Black going for it when he's got to know anytime
(18:22):
I say Flint and Steele, they're gonna laugh. Uh. But
it's that special kind of bad that makes you want
to talk that it becomes a thing. Right, That's what
this final play is. This was such a bad play,
but it was such a special kind of bad play
that it becomes a thing. Yeah, no, this is this
is definitely gonna be a thing. This is mimable who literally,
(18:43):
uh when you say someone drops the ball. So here's
now now in the dictionary like a picture of Homer.
Since Florida with a two point lead and twenty seconds
left to go, here's the final play as described that
sent Houston to a loss and Florida to the national champion.
Speaker 5 (19:01):
Prior six seconds to go, five seconds to sharp top
of the key, lost the dribble, He's got to pick
it up. Hit scooped up by content content Securnsa and
Glorida found a way from twelve down to the school's
third national championship. And then's basketball sixty five sixty three
(19:21):
the final. The Florida Gators are the national champions once again.
Speaker 1 (19:27):
West Wood one on the call. Florida wins. And before
we get to the Houston party, let me just say
this because I was so happy for Walter Clayton because
he had an abysmal night. Right, he had an abysmal
night tonight, no points in the first half. It took
him a while to even dent the scoreboard. His first
(19:49):
free throw I came with like thirteen minutes left in
the game. Now, we did wind up scoring eleven points.
Yeh did dish out a bunch of assists. But this
is Walter Clayton, who has been the James Harden of
the NCAA tournament. Right, I thought we saw at one
point that he'd gone sixteen minutes a game time without
a shot. That's how well. Yeah, he was oh for
four forever. It's one of those one of those situations
where you want to keep hitting refresh on your computer. Go,
(20:11):
oh for some reason, must not refresh. I gotta be
out a badge over four, right, Yeah, he's still over
for four. Oh for four. He had a bad game.
And I'm just thinking he's the big star of the
championship game. And if he goes down with a game
where he scores four points and he's you know, one
for eleven from the floor, how do you get past this? Right,
(20:31):
that's a difficult thing to have to live. I was
the best player and they completely stopped me. And I
had a horrible game in the National Championship. Look at
look at what they they did all weekend. And I'm
sure some some folks today with Cooper Flagg from missing
a shot right like he finished with twenty seven had
the game he did on Saturday night. Uh, but still
(20:53):
it became an indictment of his draft stock, his his toughness,
his ability to make things happen. Whatever else for Clayton,
amplify it because you know, he became the face of
this tournament. I mean, and he had a miserable game.
Nothing even his final numbers like, wow, that's what. Yeah,
that was his game. However, he made the play that
(21:16):
won them the national championship. He made the play that
won then the title because he was the one that
leaped out on the three, that made the shot. I
would say, I would say made it go, but it
it didn't matter because you know, Truck just dropped the ball.
Him leaping out at sharp for that three made him
(21:39):
drop the basketball and pull it back down, thinking twice
about taking that shot because it's not gonna go again.
No confidence that Houston had down the stretch of making shots,
and you get a situation at the end of a
game where nobody feels confident about taking a shot and clear.
Whatever play they had drawn up was terrible because you
can't tell me that with nineteen seconds, that's the look
(22:00):
that Kelvin Sampson wanted. But Clayton comes out and he
leaps out at sharp and sharp second, guesses himself and
drops the basketball, and that's the game, right Connin jumps
on it, but that's the game, it's over. He makes
the play of the game. He wins the National championship
with a defensive effort on a night where it was
miserable for him. And I am so proud of that.
(22:22):
I'm so proud of that moment because that's something that
if I'm him, I think about that forever. Yeah, I
had an ass game in the National champion game, but
show this highlight. Who came out and jumped out on
that three and made sure that this game was going
our way. He makes the play of the game without
even touching the basketball. He makes the play of the
(22:43):
game by jumping out on that three. I can't tell
you how proud for a great player like that to
find a way to still win the game when it's
not your night. That is really special. Sharp and gets
the ball, looks to create he's got a few seconds
left on the clock, and then you force it just
with that flash.
Speaker 5 (23:00):
Now.
Speaker 1 (23:00):
We talked about it last hour playing d and he
piled up a number of assists and a couple of rebounds.
And to have that play become the signature of his
entire performance for this national title run is really amazing, right,
because coming into the game was what he needs this
(23:21):
many points to be the all time leader this that
the other and going by minutes played and whatever else.
And to be shut out in the first half, comeback
as he did, and to still have the wherewithal in
for Sharp it's the worst, you know, the other side
of the extreme, because he was the guy that hit
that huge shot off the inbound steel to make it
(23:42):
a three point game and give them that chance to
come back and knock off Duke on Saturday. And then
you have this, you know, just the the yin and
yang of this energy and the way these games go
hotly contested boys. Certainly it's thrilling for us. I mean,
if you were just box score watching, you were saddened
because you just saw woeful shooting percentages and some plays
(24:05):
along the way. You know that that will certainly highlight.
But that final shot attempt that doesn't even get you
don't even get an attempt now because flashes in the
last second. I'd be curious to see what the play
was so such where he was looking, if he was
had a cutter down low, or what the idea was. No,
it just looked like it was panic and they just
(24:27):
lost the Like whatever they had drawn up, Florida clearly
either anticipated it or Houston couldn't execute it. And again
you go back to the confidence level. This is not
an offensive game. In a defensive game, if you're up,
you want to be up by one. Let the other
team take the final shot. If it's an offense, if
it's eighty six eighty three, hey, or eighty six eighty four,
you want to have the ball at the end because hey,
(24:48):
you got a lot of guys putting the ball in
the bucket and you had nobody doing it at least
with any sort of consistency. Where give me the ball,
I can make a shot, and clearly Sharp didn't want
to take it. I'm gonna take this shot. No, he's
claim's gonna leap out at me and block this shot.
So I'm gonna let the ball drop like there was.
They were so bamboozled at that point, Like mentally, I
(25:08):
don't know where Houston was on the court on that
final play. I really don't know where they were because
this was that's not how you execute at the end
of the game. But that's the thing, it's the antithesis
of everything. And certainly you weren't on social media off
of your tweet on Saturday, which I'm sure you're getting
your just revenge on folks now because everything now, I'll
get it out, for sure, I'll get it now, for sure.
(25:29):
Talking about meltdowns and toughness, intestinal fortitude, forty minutes of
hell finishing, all of that is still true, except the
excellence of execution here in the final seconds goes awry
for a veteran Leaden squad and feel for sharp they
showed him going down the tunnel with his jersey over
his face being guided back into the locker room. But
(25:52):
for Florida, I mean they finished shooting under forty percent
for the night, thirty nine point six take care of
business at the free throw line seventeen of twenty one.
For Houston, you shot thirty four point eight percent. So credit,
I mean, look, credit to Florida, Biggs. They did their
share of alteration. We said three point shooting both sides
(26:12):
was just terrible. Look, and that's the other part for Florida,
right because we have time to get to the Houston park,
that's the other part for Florida. With about seven or
eight minutes left to go, this was a game where
the second half, Florida came back a bit Houston would
able to they would they would go on a little
bit of a run. Houston gets a bucket or two,
they hit a couple of free throws. They're keeping Florida
at bay. But right around the seven or eight minute
(26:34):
mark left in the second half, all of a sudden,
the presence of Florida's biggs got even larger. They were
altering shots down low, they were preventing Houston from getting
into the paint for shots. They were making shots offensively.
They were open at the end of shot clocks for hey,
with everybody jumping out they have it. No, we'll make that.
What f Florida making that one extra pass? So you
(26:55):
had an open dunk or a layup. Just the presence
of the Bigs, whether it was Houston getting tired or
getting frustrated offensively, but the presence of the bigs really
just flipped that game. The last seven eight minutes, I
can't tell you. And it's not like anybody went on
a big run. It's all you can point out guys
who had big had had you had a big game,
that had been just the presence of them. You could
see that Houston offensively had no confidence. Defensively, they had
(27:19):
no answers because they're trying to get out on the perimeter.
You still think it's a Clayton game. You still think
the guards are going to do it. And when you
needed the big hoop, hey we can still go download
to our guys. I mean, really it was. It was
some kind of last seven or eight minutes from the
Florida Biggs man. Yeah, going back to you know, we
had a total of eleven shots blocks, six for Houston,
(27:39):
five for the Gators. But I'd be curious these shot
alterations because we also looked at it. You're talking about
Houston losing a game where they had fifteen offensive rebounds. Yeah, fifteen.
They doubled up what Florida was able to do in
that category. A slight rebounding edge just one for Florida
for the game, but fifteen offensive rebounds do you have
(28:01):
those point blank put back attempts and opportunities. So for
the Florida Biggs, you can't say enough about what they
were able to do to just make sure that even
if you gave up the second chance, you didn't give
up the second chance points exit. How about a Fresco
exit swollen down The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carbon
live from the ty iraq dot com studios. Tell me
(28:21):
how to find out what's trending in the wide world
of sports, from special delivery Steve to Saga where everybody
is absolutely agog over the play. We just saw Juan
Soto driving in Francisco, Lindor with a double to give
the Mets a one nothing lead. They held on to
win it two to nothing.
Speaker 3 (28:36):
Well, you went five in a row.
Speaker 1 (28:37):
Can't get it out of your mind? The Florida Gators
the way of life, Steve, Come on, man.
Speaker 3 (28:42):
That's right, you're so used to it. Florida Gators. Well,
what happened in this game? Beat the Houston Cougar sixty
five sixty three. Apparently Florida led this game for a
minute and four seconds out of the forty minute final
Forever Steve exactly crown national champions after the Gators trailed
by twelve early in the second half, but tied the
(29:05):
game with about eight minutes to go. Remember in the
Final four at San Antonio Saturday night, the win over Auburn,
Gators were only up one with two and a half
minutes to go. Wound up winning Tonight a close final
few minutes. They win by two. In that game, Walter
Clayton Saturday had thirty four points.
Speaker 1 (29:22):
He didn't do much in this game, Walter Clayton Junior.
Speaker 5 (29:28):
His first field goal comes on a rack attack.
Speaker 3 (29:31):
From three point range. He was just one of seven
eleven points seven assists for Clayton. But in victory that
call from Westwood one Radio again Gators down twelve, they
come back to win. Houston had the ball for the
last nineteen seconds but failed to get a shot off.
Houston scored one point in about the last two and
a half minutes, zero for two shooting, with four turnovers
(29:53):
late in the game. So Houston has still never won
the national title. This was their seventh Final four an
SEC school had not won the national championship in men's
hoops since twenty twelve Kentucky, Florida wins it all and
by the way, still no team has won the crown
by getting to the Final four like Houston, playing the
(30:14):
highest possible seed each round and then on top of that,
beating two one seeds in the final four. Well, Houston
came back to be one seed Duke Saturday, but Houston
blows a lead against one seed Florida tonight. Just two
NBA games this evening, Sacramento got forty three points from
Zach Lavine and a win and a comeback at Detroit
won twenty seven to one seventeen for the Kings. DeMar
(30:35):
DeRozan thirty seven points. Demantis Sabonis a triple double Miami
sent Philadelphia to a twelve straight loss, one seventeen to
one oh five. Tyler hero at the Heat returned from
a Bruce ty and had twenty points. The NBA regular
season ends on Sunday. The Lakers Lebron James and Luca
Doncic are each questionable for Tuesday at Oklahoma City. LA
does play at Dallas on Wednesday. Among the five NHL
(30:59):
games tonight, Saint Louis's twelve game winning streak ends with
a three to one loss at Winnipeg. Tampa Bay five winner,
so the Jets with another big wins right Nets and
the Jets the Jet, Yeah, that's in. The Jets lightning
one five to one at the Rangers, and Seattle leads
early second period to to one at the LA Kings.
(31:20):
As for late night Major League Baseball, the Padres are
holding on four to three. In Sacramento against the A's
bottom of the six, the Reds now lead to nothing
at the Giants top of the night. The Giants have
won seven in a row and their starter, Logan Webb
tossed seven scoreless innings with ten strikeouts and no walks,
but San Francisco is losing. Orioles lead five to one
(31:40):
at Arizona bottom of the seventh. Mets won their fifth
in a row, but losses for Boston and Texas, they
each had won five straight. Washington beat the Dodgers six',
Four detroit over The yankees six to. Two back to,

Radio welcome to The Florida Gator Basketball, network where we're
all Champion Jay Champions Mike harvin live in The tirack
Dot com, studios where it's The Gators world, Tonight Da
da da go gaynors da. Da probably a lot of
(33:15):
whatever tequilak flowing in the last twenty. Minutes they Beat
houston sixty five sixty, three following one of the worst
final plays you could possibly see in a college basketball
national title, game where we're still trying to make sense
of What houston was trying to. Do i'm sure we'll
hear From Kelvin sampson following the. Game he's gonna be
(33:36):
talking soon. Again the final play Where sharp goes up
for a shot feels like it's gonna be blocked By.
Clayton he drops the, Ball it bounces around for the
final couple of, Seconds florida falls on. It they win
the national. Title i've never seen a game end that,
way but that's what we got. Tonight i'm trying to
keep trying to find if IF i can get the
angle directly behind the other basket stanchion to see Where
(33:59):
clayton is relative to Where sharp, Is because as soon
As clayton's leaving his, feet it's, like aren't you at
least going to try to draw some? Contact? Right you
might not get the, call they might decide it's a desperation.
Thing but anything was going to be better than just
dropping the. Ball, yeah, anything Anything like if you go
up and get it, blocked the ball is still bouncing,
(34:20):
around you can fake going up And clayton flies into
you and you're shooting three free throws right like where
where you put the ball up towards the basket where
your bigs have have at least had a stalemate against
The Florida. Biggs now this is WHERE i tell you
what the most overrated thing in basketball. Is the most
overrated thing one THING i would never Be, yeah when
(34:41):
your teams, tink you would Think i'd never be able
to say this After, saturday because what DID i say
For duke going into this game against Against Houston? Saturday
experience doesn't matter the fact that you have a bunch
of seniors And duke is a younger team And Cooper
flag is a. Freshman it is. Irrelevant it is irrelevant
the better teams. Win your still playing, Together you still
played the whole season. Together, yes you might feel that
(35:03):
special bond of being together four, years and it's. Special,
OKAY i get, That but this is aaron college, basketball
where great teams are put together over the course of a.
Year it doesn't have any bearing on the. Game and
then what do we see in the final few. Minutes
duke couldn't get anything. Done houston's able to defensively rely
on their experience and win this. Game AND i got
killed on social media so. MUCH i think Every Houston
(35:26):
cougar's fan in the. World my tweet went viral THAT
i Picked duke to win by double, digits and you
must have ended up on a couple Of houston message. Boards,
Man i'll tell, you, REALLY i Hope bucky's visits for.
You this is like a year ago when WHEN i
said That oregon was gonna Smash washington and they The
pack twelve title game and they. Didn't all of a,
sudden it was, like, oh so that's, right, Right so
(35:48):
all this HATE i get from, you and what happened,
tonight all the leadership That houston, has all the experience
That houston, has because we're all, seniors what happens in
the final few minutes of that game they throw up
on them Such june twenty, NINE. Lj cryer made a
two point tip shot sixty two to. Sixty they didn't
make one from the. Floor they led the game for
(36:14):
thirty eight and three quarters, minutes and they have a
final possession where that was the. Result don't tell me about.
Experience don't tell me experience takes us to what experience
is overrated and it's not consistent to the point where
you can, say, well the experienced team is going to
win seventy four percent of the, time because, look you
(36:36):
put them up against a bunch of. Freshmen years, AGO
i would say, yes. Right years ago in the, NINETIES
i would say, yeah a team Like North carolina in
The national championship game with guys Like Donald williams And Eric. Montrosse,
yeah Maybe michigan with five. Freshmen it's going to get
to a point where the nerves get a little too
much and they start making mistakes And chris whoever calls time,
(36:56):
OUT i could see. That but, now, no that's not
how it's done it. More all, right teams come together pretty,
quickly and especially when you see here's a team that
supposedly all the all the experience they had that they
were able to draw. On how do they draw on?
It and they, do and they do so well On
saturday and it's one hundred and eighty degrees opposite On monday.
Night experience is great to, have but you still have
(37:20):
to go out and you have to. Execute experience would
have been great For duke to, have but all they
had to do was go out and. Execute you need
one layup in the final forty, five so you need
that one layup to go and the game is. Over
one more one Play duke, executes they. Win we're not
talking About houston and all their. Experience experience is overrated
(37:40):
and it's not a consistent enough winner where you can, say,
oh here's a huge adventae because you saw, tonight you
would think who's gonna melt at the end of the.
Game Not houston right. Now so he's got a lot of, Experience, yeah.
Speaker 2 (37:51):
A lot he's.
Speaker 1 (37:52):
Got, well he's got one more than being a freg,
one more Than cooper. Flag. Right so all of this,
experience all the spears they. Have who's the team that
wasn't gonna melt tonight because of the, Periods houston's not gonna.
Melt and what Happened they were full wicked witch of
The west dye melting and suddenly you see he and
the woman from the coffee commercials is going back and
falling and, falling And elpham is going down and down
(38:14):
and down. Melting and that's exactly what happened To. Houston
dang dong which or we can just start singing from
the newer from the The Broadway show And newest musical
that that was nominated for so many. Things uh, yeah
two twenty nine. Left talk about the tip. Shot that's.
It that was the last field goal. Attempt they had four.
(38:37):
Turnovers As Steve dessanger told us, earlier all those empty,
trips all those opportunities absolute meltdown like we're gonna go
and full on And duke they, choked, Right and for
those that wanted to Give houston, credit, yeah of course
it's got to be met the other, way, right equal
and opposite. Force you decide how much you want to
(38:57):
give on that pie chart of the other team came
and took. It great, resolve veteran, leadership because that would
have been all the headlines In, houston no question about.
Speaker 2 (39:05):
It.
Speaker 1 (39:05):
Nationally duke. Choked they didn't finish the. Job guess what
Tonight houston. Choked poor offensive, display shooting thirty five percent
from the. Field BUT i want to give credit to.
Defense look at The Florida gators meltdown in the final
two plus minutes and there's no there's no other way
to put. It great, job, right you want to go
(39:27):
With gold and his staff and The gators and, go defense. Wins,
Great but you can't tell me On saturday and it
was the great resolve and brilliance and veteran acumen and
resiliency of The Houston Cougar. Saturday and then try to, go,
oh you know, what you, know what are you gonna do? Me?
(39:48):
Florida they were so? Good, yeah it made. It, No,
no your team gacked it. Away if everything that was
True saturday turned out the opposite turned out to be true,
said which again tells you experience is not that big
a deal and you still got. Exit you still gotta
put on your big boy pants and, execute no matter
whether you're a senior or a, freshman because you're playing
for the national. Championship, wait what what conference did these guys?
(40:09):
Playing Because Calvin samson was chirping a lot about conferences
and who played? WHERE a, YEAH i, mean how do
you how do you how do you chirp about that
at this? Point right, like, hey come, on it's then
if you want a, hard fun game in a final
four and then you're getting all digging your breeches and
none look at. US i feel like all these you do?
Speaker 2 (40:27):
This what do you?
Speaker 1 (40:28):
Want you want to? Buy do you want to buy
to the final? Four is how you? Want like feel
in the women's coaches that they want to buy to
the final? Four we want to buy this is what we.
Want we really played a tougher schedule and everybody else
give us a buy to the final. FOUR i just
like they just like they won the tag team titles At. WrestleMania,
hey and what conference are? YOU?
Speaker 2 (40:45):
Frau, yeah let's.
Speaker 1 (40:47):
Go what a crazy ending Dire wolves are. Back coming up,
next we check into one of our most trusted college
basketball linels a breakdown what we saw in this national title.
Game party is still
