Check out our videos. They're up there. Comment away let
us know what you think. Again Jason Smith Show, check
it out on YouTube. Mike and I love putting this
content out for you every single night. Well, it might
not be Willis Reid limping back into the game for
the Knicks in the NBA Finals, but that's kind of
what we're seeing right now. Gino Smith after getting tackled
(01:14):
on a scramble for a first down, came out of
the game, went into the medical tent, was checked out,
came back out to play, but is limping a little bit.
Not quite sure, but he is definitively limping. Okay, we'll
see how it goes. The Broncos, proving that hey, we
don't want people to think we're as good as they
say we are, have turned the ball over with seven
(01:37):
minutes to go in the fourth quarter. The Raiders have
the football inside Bronco territory. Bo Nicks, who has had
an absolutely craptastic night, gets picked off on a tip
ball that should have been caught, So now the Raiders
take over. After the runback, they are on the Bronco
side of midfield again. Still time left to go here,
(01:59):
but it is a seven Bronco lead over the Raiders
and Gino Smith has limped back onto the field to
take snaps in the shotgun for the Raiders. He looks
so pained the last possession every time, just walking back
into the huddle, it's like, all right, I'm you know,
watching the longest yard. I was like, all right, I've
(02:19):
been beaten, but they're not gonna get me, I'm so good.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
Gen Gene, no, gene, no, gene.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
No, look how tough I'm Willis Reid. And then at
the end of that last possession, it was the long
like the camera had to go to break because he
wasn't getting off the field fast enough. No he was not.
It's s no, no, no, let's just go to commercial. Uh
so you moved that, and then Franklin use your hands, man,
Yet the ball get in on the body, ricochet, you
(02:46):
get the interception. H and now you got Gino trying
to be a hero on the Denver side of the field.
Here running the ball inside is six minutes to play
down three it is. It is a shocking game, to
say the least. It's close. I wish there were more points.
I wish Denver was actually playing better. So I feel
like they're embarrassing the NFL with their effort tonight so
(03:08):
far in a ten to seven game, and bo Nix
looks like the guy at Oregon or at Auburn When
I thought this guy's going to the NFL, I asked
you that off air last hour. As we're watching, it's like,
are we sure this was the guy that everybody's been
selling because he's had a couple of good quarters man,
but overall we're talking about rocky, choppy roads. Look, they're
still seven and two, you can't take that away. And
(03:29):
they've had some fantastic series possessions and opportunities for Knicks
to shine. This is one that, at least from all metrics,
should have been a laugher. And in the fourth quarter,
all we're doing is deciding how many yards Dobbins and
Harvey get and what they're split is at the end
(03:50):
of the game. I know that sometimes Thursday games are weird.
We've seen that. You get a Division game, they're weird.
This game should not be this weird. It should not
be it should not be this weird. There's no way
this game should be this weird. Nine and a half
points was the points spread for you here, forty three
the over under No chance we're getting anywhere near that
(04:10):
at this point. But you know, Gino Smith has an
opportunity to go steal this game and create some chaos.
Speaking of chaos, Gino Smith on third and six is rushed.
He throws incomplete, running away from pressure, limping off to
the sideline again favoring his leg. It looks like it's
(04:30):
gonna be a long field goal for the Raiders to
try to tie this game at ten apiece a gino
just getting rid of it before getting pushed at the
forty five yard line. So we're gonna get a long
field goal, hooray, which passes for great offense. It's a
long field goal attempt to try to tie this game
at ten. Now, fourth site just got absolutely abused. Now,
(04:51):
Benito has been great. He's been in the backfield a lot, right,
He's had a fantastic season. We're talking a guy who's
already near double digit sacks on the ear like that
was an no show effort. Get out of your damn stance, man,
like he walked around him. And because it's the Raiders,
Carlson misses from forty eight yards away a little wide, right.
(05:13):
So the Broncos hold on to lead this game ten
to seven, just under five minutes left to go in
the fourth quarter. Again, we'll have more on this game.
Because it's an NFL game and it's Thursday night. I
mean that that's kind of what it is, standalone game.
It's either that at least these guys showed up kind
of to play. Eh. As we were talking about the
Suns and the Clippers earlier. Kind. I mean, Pete Carris
(05:35):
is even chewing gum? Is it really a game if
he's not running around chewing a gum and shouting out
this This is one of those nights where Adam Silver goes.
We didn't play on Thursday night because of this game.
We could have played some games tonight, even have to
have the Knicks play back to back last night. We've
got some games tonight, you have. But tomorrow's a cup night, right,
We're gonna get like weirdly painted courts and everything. Yeah, No,
(05:55):
no Cup Night tomorrow, the big deal. I've got USC Northwestern.
We got Cup Night. It's USC Northwestern Cup Night. Oh okay,
cup check, cup check. I'm here to sell sell such
now elsewhere in the NFL. I knew, and we all
knew this story was gonna come back, not to haunt everyone,
(06:16):
but to be something we laugh at. It was just
on Sunday that Bear's wide receiver roma Dunesay. You started
out having a great year this year. Uh didn't have
a great game. Sunday against the Bengals was held without
a catch, despite the Bear scoring forty seven points in
the In the game of the Week, right, best game
of the week on Sunday to win over the Bengals.
(06:36):
He had three targets in the game, one went off
his hands in the end zone and not the game
we are accustomed to. And clearly no one knows this
better than Roma Dunesay. Fantasy owners going no points like
if they check your score too late in the day
where you're like, oh, did he get hurt early? And no,
he's He's in the game, they're just not throwing to him.
It was after the game that Roma Dunesay's dad decided,
(06:59):
I I'm mad that my kid didn't get more than
three targets, and he reposted messages on social media that
asked whether the Bears would train a Doonzay to a
team that will actually throw to him, and another post
that declared he should be getting at least ten targets
per game. Right, So these were things that he retweeted
or or reposted on social media. Today, Adneesay answered that
(07:21):
and answered his dad's posts by saying, listen, I don't
make a big deal out of it. He's got his opinions.
I have mine. My dad's a big fan of of
my size, so my dad's a big fan of Roma Dunzay.
So you're going third person and talking about his dad
being a fan of himself is pretty special. But he said, listen,
my dad had his opinions. I have mine. I'm glad
he supports me. Okay, I'm sure there was a conversation
(07:45):
with Roma Dunzay telling dad what are you doing? What
are you doing? Dad? There's a time to pick And
the thing is is that I understand that you want
to stand up for your kid and sometimes you can't
help it. But you stand up for your kid on
a day when you score ten points and the offense
is terrible and your son only gets three targets, you
(08:08):
don't say we need to be throwing him more. When
you're coming off a forty seven point game. You don't
do that. You don't say, hey, how come my kid,
because you seem like just the upset, jealous dad going hey,
everybody else had to go why didn't my kids should
have scored more? We scored forty seven points. Dude. There's
a time and a place to say that. But I
always tell you the same thing. There is no time
(08:29):
and place for parents or significant others to go public
about their concerns for their spouses or their family members,
because it never reflects well on the athlete. It never does.
There's never been a time where someone in a family,
whether there's a mom or a dad, or a girlfriend
(08:50):
or a husband, who decided, Hey, this is going on
and I'm sorry, I'm sick atte I'm going to weigh
in on this. There has never been one instance where
that has helped the athlete. All at do is make
things harder for the athlete. May just seem like they
can't find their own they can't fight their own battles.
They just seem like, hey, everything is not in control
in your world. Nothing ever makes them look good. I
(09:11):
don't know how many times we have to see it.
There's very few tenants in sports where blanketly I can
say this is a truth in nineteen ninety five, it
was truth in twenty ten, it's truth now in twenty
twenty five. But family members and significant others getting involved
because they're upset about something going on in that athlete's
career that's never reflected well. Never they never look good.
(09:33):
This was one of my favorite stories of the week
for a couple of reasons. Okay, Dunsa didn't catch that
ball in the end zone. It's behind him, but hits
him in the hands a ball he should probably corral. Fine.
Three targets, fine, But watching the game, it's like there's
a million things going on. I was like, curious, you
go back and you watch it. Well, the Bears did
(09:53):
it for you. After Doonzay's dad went public, they went
and found the super cut because he was mike up.
They went and found the super cut of him hyping
up his teammates and the myriad like he had six
or seven key blocks, all his blocks in response was
(10:14):
one of the greatest responses by a team. Not in
front of a podium, not in front you know, teammates
getting in front of a microphone, none of that stuff,
or Ben Johnson taking up for his guy. No, no, no.
They just put out the super cut of all of
those blocks that broke off huge runs from anong guy,
or got another wide receiver an extra three or four yards,
(10:37):
or sealed an edge to give Caleb more time to throw.
All of those things. It was a great two minute
clip and it's at the end they should have just
had a guy clap like a Vegas Blackjack dealer. I'm
done because that was the perfect response to the parent,
like and and for Rome to have to come out
and address it today. You know, it's it's the tale
(10:58):
as old as time, as you said true in ninety eighty,
go go all as long as sports has been around. Right.
I was telling you the other day there's a guy
yelling yeah all day and then the kid got scored on.
Dad wasn't chirping after that. So you know, you have
those kind of moments. And for the Bears, the fact
that it comes off of something really positive. We'll try
(11:21):
to tear it down. Man there yeah, I mean like
Place had a huge win time and Place and you
scored forty seven points right like he was having the
time of his life. He's like, Dad, look at this.
What I want to know is that, what do you
think is gonna happen? Like, I get that you're frustrated.
Maybe you don't get to talk to your kid as
much about it. If he's a listen, everything is fine, Dad,
I understand that, but you have to resist when your
(11:44):
buddies tell you, dude, they got to throw to your
kid more. Man, I know, I know, I get. What
do you think you're gonna accomplish by going on social media.
Ben Johnson's gonna go, hey, hey guys, let me look
at guys. Let's have a meeting here. I understand. Hey,
so I know. Hey, great great day offense, great day
running the football. We called a great game. The guys
are great. But hey, Rome's dad is a little mad.
(12:07):
I can't believe we only threw them the ball three times.
I don't want this to become a thing. Let's make
sure we throw them the football a bunch more. Lea,
He says ten targets a game? Can we get him
ten targets? So his dad, because I really, his dad
getting upset, like, we don't want that surrounding the team, Like,
does he think that's what's gonna happen? I really, what
do you think is the is the end all of this?
What's the end of this story for you? How do
(12:28):
you wind up winning in this? What is it? Is
it a public apology from Ben jont Hey, I'm sorry?
Is this other teams in free agency? When Roma Dunes
becomes a free agent, it's well, you know they didn't
use him, right, Hey, just go back. You got to
give my son a thirty million dollar contract. Because he's
that good. Doesn't matter. He didn't catch a lot of passes.
You look at some of these games here when he
should have got the targets he didn't get him. I
(12:50):
got all this, I got all this evidence right here.
He pulls ab out of a briefcase when he's meeting
with the team in free agency. Hey, all this, they
should have got him the ball. More this is he's
clearly a thirty million dollar your guy, Like, I don't know,
I don't know what the outcome is other than to
make you feel good because you'll feel better about it.
And I get the whole Sometimes being petty and petulant works,
(13:13):
and I'm playing sometimes it doesn't. But when you're somebody's dad,
I think you have to step back and understand, am
I doing what's right by my kid? Is Is this
going to help my kid? Instead of Hey, I feel
good about it? Right that? That's kind of what I
would look back to. And I'm still surprised at someone
who understands has lived in the world with their kid,
has been a great athlete their whole life, one of
(13:35):
the elite, one of the top one tenth of one
percent athletes in the world. Uh when it when it
comes to youth football, and you gotta know, okay, is
how is this really helping? How he's having a really
good year now the Bears are winning. What what is
this going to accomplish? What? What is this going to do?
He is currently tied for twenty third most targeted in
(13:55):
the National Football League at over seven and a half
a game. It's ten ten, he wants ten. Look, Jamar
Chase is at one hundred and ten eleven points eight
per game. Well that's gonna swing slinging Joe Flacco with
a bad defense. Chris Olave coming in at just over nine.
(14:15):
Wait really, Jackson Smith and Jig is not the top
of that four a second he was, He's fourth. He
catches all the past that he's been a fish, right,
he's got He's got a total of seventy seven targets, uh,
just over nine and a half per game, but he's
catching all of them. He died. There's not a lot
that hit the grounds. It with Smith, he gets it done. Yeah,
(14:38):
you got Chase, Olave, JSN and Drake London are four
of your top five. Who's fifth? O, He's third on
the list. Garrett Wilson, Christian McCaffrey. Oh okay, hey remember
remember before the season, Well said he'd be used as
a receiver more than a running back. Okay, just just
so you know, Mike Harmon, because it's radio, decided to
(14:59):
hold hold his cup up like you could see that
are the cameras who said that, this is where you
say you did. Why are you hoisting your cup? Well,
I don't know what you're doing because you're hoisting your
cup up in the air or on the radio, I
don't know. There's three cameras. I'm right there. There is
nothing right that. That's great, but you you I didn't
know what you're was taking a victory last I don't know.
(15:19):
Did you want I was taking a cue from you?
Did you want Tyser to come in here and refill
your cup with something? Actually, you don't know, Darson. I
think Joe bu needs a refill. Okay, uh so yeah,
I I I really. There's very few tenants in sports.
That's one of them. You're not going to help your
kid by saying anything. You're not be fun, be funny,
(15:41):
say fun stuff, support them. That's great, man, But when
when you want to come out and say yeah, the
other is Don'tmber remember what city your kid's playing into.
You throw this ball more than roma doonsday when we
score forty seven points, when we give it to a
running back I didn't even know he was on the
roster a week ago. That's what we gotta do, because
(16:03):
the assumption becomes that he's going and he's talking to
his old man and he's complaining about his role, which
is everything. I mean, it's completely the opposite and very
easily improvable. But if stuff gets to fester, then it
starts to become a problem and an infection exit out
about a Fresco exit swollen down The Jason Smith Show

Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon, and mercifully, our long national nightmare is over.
Now the shutdown is still going on. I mean, Broncos
Raiders is done. No politics. My man Dennick to band football,
Denver beats the Raiders ten to seven, succeed and proceed.
(17:49):
It's their first seven game win streak since twenty fifteen.
You will not see a worse game than we saw
tonight between the Broncos and the Raiders. I don't know.
That's thirteen eleven game with the Jets was pretty terrible. Ah,
that was terrible. Yeah, it's a couple more points that. Yeah,
it was. That was really bad. It was, yeah, just
a little bit more. Yeah, let's go back to twenty
(18:09):
fifteen though for a second, if you will, fifteen that
was Peyton Manning's first year with the Broncos, Right, that
was Manning's first year. No, that's the second year. Oh okay, okay, Yeah,
so that was the nine touchdowns, seventeen interception. Yeah, that
was the Oh yeah, that was that. But he won
the Super Bowl? Yeah, yeah, when you got leading rusher?
Uh huh uh that little boy in that seven game
(18:32):
woul Who would their leading rusher have been? Uh, Jerald
will Hype. Nicely done. Yeah, it's a good throwback right there.
Ronnie Hillman, Ronnie Anderson. Yeah, and then we celebrate how
great Damarius Thomas was. Yeah, one of the one of
the greats of the last twenty years. Unfortunately gone too soon.
(18:54):
That Super Bowl was uh was if I remember right?
The Broncos got a field goal on the first possession
of the game, and then Peyton Manning could do nothing,
and then a field goal the first possession after halftime,
and that was it. Those are the only points the
offense had in that game. I think, if I'm if
I'm if I'm getting that right? Like that was all?
Was it? Twenty four to ten? Your final Von Miller
(19:16):
and all those guys running amuck? Oh that was an
awful good times. That was an awful game. Fall on
the ball. No, wait, sometimes we get games like this.
The Raiders had ten first downs to night. The Broncos
had ten first downs. Neither one of these teams deserve
to win. No, the Broncos were five out of fifteen
on third down. The Raiders were four out of fifteen. Yeah,
two hundred and twenty yards of the Broncos one hundred
(19:37):
and eighty eight yards of the Raiders. We're used to
teams rolling up four hundred yards of total offense themselves.
None of this was good unless you had the Raiders
or the Broncos defense going in fantasy, you really didn't
get anything tonight. Yeah, but even then, I mean, you
got the sacks piled up for the Broncos, right me.
If you played points against if you play defense, you
(19:58):
were okay. Like, looks look like we didn't nearly the
turnover margin that we thought like tonight. And it's once
in a while this happens, is that I happen to
not have any Raiders or Broncos on my teams that
I started tonight. Yeah, I got no, right, and so
I got nothing that I was gonna start tonight, right,
I'm not gonna like I had Jacoby Myers, but he
got traded, so I'm just nobody else. Not gonna start
(20:19):
Tray Tuckin, he's a Jaguar. But this is one of
those games where I go all right for three days. Now,
I can be excited because I know in my league's
other I haven't had a chance to look yet, but
I know in my leagues other owners played players in
this game and they did not have big nights from
any of them. Well, here's the thing I'm pretty excited about.
(20:40):
You're in a PPR league. You got sixty yards and
a touchdown on the ground from genty nineteen carries long
of ten, not done doing particularly well, but found the
end zone. That's all that matters. Get this though, three
yards receiving, but three receptions, Oh those three, I got
(21:02):
three point three even fall forward, but three got four?
No three point three because I got I got point
one for each one of those. That's what I got.
That's why. But I love that though. I'm like, hey,
I feel good instead of like on a Thursday night
where you play against somebody and somebody goes nuts and
throws like four touchdowns, like you got to stare at
that like twenty eight point number for them for like
(21:23):
three days, and you got to see their chance of winning.
It's like seventy six per chance of winning your fantasy match.
Me go, I can't keep looking at that every day. Yeah,
you know, it's like I like looking at it because hey,
I'm okay. I didn't have anybody going tonight. I feel good.
The only other guy that gave you anything was Troy Franklin.
I mean, if you if you played Brock Bowers was
the obvious number one or number two tight end, just
(21:43):
based on he came back and ran wild a week ago.
Troy Franklin thirty one yard. Troy Franklin should have that
minus two for that. You know, that's just no, he should.
I mean, but this is where it's you know, life
isn't fair. But bo Nick's one hundred and fifty passing yards,
one touchdown, two picks. He's been helping you with his legs, right, Nope,
(22:04):
not today, five carries minus two yards. You didn't even
get that bonus from him this time. Now, this is
the big topic coming off tonight, right, But well we'll
get to the Broncos being one of the worst eight
and two teams you'll ever see and RJ. Harvey hates
you buy but h yeah, RJ. Harvey, he lets you down.
They gave him a couple of red zone touch they did,
they did, They gave him opportunity. Who didn't let you
(22:26):
down tonight? I mean, yeah, at least after gent gave you,
you know, twelve do you expect that from the airing
of the grievances? I mean, nobody else right let you
down on Thursday Night Football eight seven, seven ninety. But
the last six weeks now, and I you know, I
wanted to make sure you know, hey, we'll talk about
this when it gets to a point where, hey, there's
enough of a sample size. Is that the last six
(22:48):
weeks makes me wonder is Bone like like we did
for Joe Flacco, is bon Nicks really elite or is
he just pretty good? And the league is caught up
to him a little bit now after the first month
or so of the NFL season, right, because the first
month Bonnicks was really good, right, comes out of the gate,
you know as a big day against Indianapolis and a loss,
(23:10):
a nice day against Cincinnati. The last six weeks he's
been just a guy. He had the big day against Dallas, right,
and they had the big comeback against the Giants, but
that's a fourth quarter. First three quarters, they couldn't do anything.
Dallas's defense is terror. But I'm not gonna say it
didn't happen. But overall, you're looking at the last six
weeks where he's not been good. He's been okay, he's
(23:30):
been just a guy. And six weeks you're talking about
half the season and all the stuff we have been
told and to look how great at the end of
the year he had last year, and Sean Payton spent
the entire offseason talking about how how much he's the
guy I wanted. He's so great. Okay, I wasn't buying
Bonnicks because I wasn't buying him at Oregon for the NFL.
I wasn't buying him clearly at Auburn when he was there.
(23:53):
But okay, all right, Sean Payton, maybe he's got a
little bit what he needs. He knows his quarterbacks. But boy,
this sure it looks like so far where hey, they
got him last year, first four weeks of this year.
Once they got four weeks on tape, you know what?
Now we know? And I'm watching bow Knicks play tonight,
and he's not stepping up in the pocket as much.
(24:13):
He's he's getting getting run off the line of scrimmage.
He's not as accurate throwing the football right, like you know,
he's not up at sixty five sixty sixty eight percent
completing passes. The last two weeks have been sub sixty percent.
And he's just not been the same guy. He's not
been as dynamic, and they've done a lot wide receiver wise.
Former Courtland Sutton is pretty good, right, Franklin's supposed to
(24:35):
be really good. They have some young dudes on that
on that team, and no tight end was expected. The
joker position Evan Ingram was what was expected when they
came in. Know that that thing just hasn't worked in
and out of the lineup. But bow Nick's okay, if
you're supposed to be that next guy. I don't see
a six week span of yeah, you've just been okay.
You've had a couple of moments in games, but you
(24:56):
really have just been okay. And I watch it and
I go, okay, is Drake hey really this good? Are
we gonna see him play this well against a really
good defense? Like his big game is this weekend against
Tampa Bay, because I really want to see him play
a good team and do something nice. But Bo Nicks overall, like, Okay,
Denver's really good. Denver's the defense is fantastic, and he's
(25:17):
been more of a game manager over the course of
the season than he's been. This is a guy that
we can win games on his right arm. I do
not see that from Bo Nicks, and I haven't seen
that in the better part of this year. Now. We've
talked about it a bunch, just kind of how herky
jerky the offense is. To put a very clinical term
on it, is just you have some great spurts and
(25:39):
a couple of possessions that really go their way. They've
solved something in the defensive alignment and they go and
pick at it. We watched that in that crazy ass
fourth quarter against the Giants. We watched them carve up
the Cowboys. But who doesn't, right, We watched Jacoby Brissett
do that the other day. To your point, he's completing
sixty one of his passes because they're winning. We may
(26:03):
be the only show to actually bring that up, right,
because it look whatever it takes and he's making plays
when it matters. Of course, over a sixty minute period.
If you make plays early, guess what you don't have
to do chase, not late right to where you've had.
That game against Houston again, it was one that I
(26:23):
don't think many people wanted to watch and probably did
everything they could do avoid. There weren't a lot of
red zone opportunities, so if you're watching red Zone channel,
you didn't see it very often. But eighteen fifteen, two
touchdowns against a really good Houston d Okay, that was
a good battle, right, So he showed he had those
moments where he shows the hey, look how many games
he started in college that everybody defults back to and
(26:46):
he stands tall in those points. But there's so many
other possessions like tonight, Look, Max Crosby was not cloned.
There was only one of him. You would have thought
he was seeing ghosts or that there were vapors of
Max Crosby the way he was bailing out on throws
and not squaring up to deliver the ball down field.
Because you could sit here and say, okay, bo Nicks
(27:08):
had a tough time with a really good Houston defense, right,
but it completed less than fifty percent of his passes.
They still won the game. Had a tough time tonight
with a not great Raiders defense. Okay, so teams are good,
teams are bad. He's had problems with He had problems
with a horrible Giants defense for three quarters. Then he
was really good for one quarter. Their defensive front really
good though, don't you have to say that? Yeah, okay,
(27:29):
not quite what it was a couple of years ago.
But yeah, I'm doing Carter's really good and yeah, the
Giants team, it's not quite the you know we're not
talking about though. It's you know, this is not the
Savage change, right, I mean this was Hey when when
when Thibodeau was in as a rookie and coming in No, yeah,
but that's three quarters of bad playing one quarter of
good play. Okay, he was really good against Dallas. Who's
not good against Dallas? You're supposed to be good, agast Dallas?
(27:51):
All right, wasn't that great against the Jets? And the
Jets defense is not great? Okay? Ah, the top No,
the Jets are not of a top five defense. It
didn't break up a great defense. The Jets defensive metro
are all in the bottom half of the league. So
he struggled against good teams, he struggled against bad teams,
and the anointing of bon Nicks is the next great quarterback?
All right, you need to see a bit more of
(28:11):
that growth in year two to where if you're really elite,
you win games once in a while and doesn't have
to be every week, but you win games because you
drag your team to victory. And I don't see that.
And I think, if you're the Broncos, this is what
you're gonna see in the offseason, they're gonna go. Okay, boy,
Bonnick struggled, what do we have to do what most
teams have to do for all their quarterbacks. We gotta
(28:34):
go get a big number one receiver. We gotta go
get a big tight end, we gotta go get a
big running back, because you know, trying to fill in
with with Dobbins and Harvey. Are these guys really good
running backs or are they just guys? Right? Is Courtland
Sutton really a big superstar or as hey, Courtland Sutton's
a pretty good number two. But you know, is Franklin
gonna be a great wide receiver? Okay, you draft them
(28:54):
in the way you talk him up. But I don't
know that that's gonna be the game. But check Payton's
a good seller of he is a good self. But
but remember he had Drew Brees for a long time.
He had Michael Thomas for a long time. When Thomas
was a great what was a great America? I mean
like he had guys that took care of business. Then
we're talking Hall of Fame candidacy. And he had a
great system and and and that. And that's to Sean
(29:16):
Payton's extent. Anybody who put in a quarterback which was
succeeded for the for the Saints, no matter what. But
I think you're gonna get to the end of the season,
you're gonna say, man, we gotta go out and get
play makers for Bone. And this has gone from bow
Nicks is going to carry us to we gotta go
out and get play makers for Bone. Yet two thousand
passing yards to this point, seventeen touchdowns against six picks.
Big games, the three big games that take up a
(29:38):
good chunk of his stats, that fantastic game early in
the season, the loss to the Colts, and then games
against the Bengals and Cowboys. What's the problem with those defenses, Jason,
they stink nicely done, So you've got that. I think
it's only appropriate that the graphic was about the twenty
fifteen Broncos that we highlighted all those people there because
(30:02):
they're gonna be laying. They're only going as far as
this defense is carrying them. That's really the end game
what this looks. And that's the thing. The defense is
really good, right, The defense is fantastic. It's probably the
best defense in the NFL right now. Now the Rams
defense is coming on, they're playing really wead the Texans
defense is going to show at some point, not tonight,
it doesn't matter. But but no matter where they are,
(30:25):
they're always gonna be from the top defense. They'll be
one of the top three defense in the league. That's
gonna that's gonna take you really, really far. It will
take you far in the playoffs. But is it gonna
take you all the way? Right? It's it's you know,
like like Rob Low said in in uh In in
uh Wayne's World, can get you all the way almost
to the top. But they what I've seen from the
Broncos is they're eight and two, but they're a limited team. Yes,
(30:48):
they can win any kind of game. But it's any
kind of game against a team that's got a bad defense,
right Like, they can't clearly score tons of points against
a team that has a good defense, or or they're
not consistent with it. They're they're that machine like eight
and two teams. They're who the Steelers think they are. Hey,
we're not great at anything we do, but look we
win games. The Broncs say, listen, we're not great at
(31:10):
anything we do. We play great defense and offensively, we
play complimentary football that will get you far. It's not
going to get you to the super Bowl. And I
say this as a team I picked to go to
the AFC Title game before the season. They're the best
record of the AFC right now. I said this about
the Broncos. Want to say Chargers Broncos AFC Title Game,
Chargers Broncos. Try. I feel great about the Broncos right now.
Look where they are, top of the league, and I'm
(31:31):
telling you how many problems they have right now. So
it tells you what I the truth about the Broncos
that I'm not just sitting here saying. You know, I
hate to remind you, but I did have the Broncos
in the AFC title game. No, I'm telling you the
truth about where there are is a team you want
to have a good laugh. They are point three points
behind two teams in the AFC in terms of points
per game. We'll taking guests to do there the Colts. No,
(31:55):
they're not far in the far behind the Colts. Oh
point oh oh, I show we're looking at fourteenth overall
the Jets. Jets had a couple of games a lot
of points. That's why I fought they had a thirty. Well,
they had a thirty two point game and then they
had a thirty that we had two big thirty points.
They're averaging twenty one point game. Yeah that who would
(32:16):
they be? Roncos are averaging twenty five a game? Fourteenth
would they be about? I'm gonna say the Jaguars and
the Browns. They're just behind the Steelers. Oh the Steelers.
Yeah yeah, tough man. It ain't pretty, but they get there.
(32:38):
But bone again is bone nix l It's the new
Joe sixty one point Hey, no, Joe Flack. Maybe not
who he is, but Joel but that was always ball around.
It's gonna be the that's gonna be the bonus question.
For is bone Nicks elite. We asked that for Joe
Flacco for years he won a Super Bowl. Other we
keep asking. I told you its bon Nicks is bone
(32:58):
Nick's elite. Every place I went to in Baltimore when
I visited two weeks ago, there was a picture of
Joe Flacco somewhere in that restaurant or bar at swallowed Do, Matt,
how about a fresco chime in with your bow Nick's
memories are or where you think he is in the
pantheonic core at back quarterbacks time not to fund at
what's trending in the wide world of works. So someone
who has a bow Nicks fath head up in her room,
(33:21):
it's brimua. What he got for is Bree. I definitely don't,
don't you Now.
Speaker 4 (33:25):
I have a Sean Payne fat head though, for sure,
with like the Saints visor, especially the black one with
like the gold logo.
Speaker 1 (33:33):
That's what I do have.
Speaker 4 (33:34):
And I pray to it every night, and I say
how much I miss him every.
Speaker 1 (33:37):
Single you like candles at the bottom, and every day
I do, and.
Speaker 4 (33:40):
I pray for his return back to when we actually
were a respectable organization.
Speaker 1 (33:45):
Well, I want to say, I want to say four words.
Good luck with that anyway. He counted them off on
his hand. By the way, I want to make sure
I had four. Might be sure I had four. I
didn't want to say three words and make it four
or four words and make it five. You know, I
speak for a living.
Speaker 4 (34:00):
Yeah, oh yes, I can tell anyways. Okay, guys, Yeah,
So the Broncos beat the Raiders ten to seven. Of
the Broncos have the best record in the league at
eight and two, it really did not look like that.
It was just like it was like the most boring
game of the season. Honestly, if we really look back
on that, only one NBA game that went on. The
Suns dominated the Clippers one fifteen one two. Jalen Green
(34:24):
had twenty nine points in his Phoenix Sun's debut, which
is like very exciting, and Devin Booker added twenty four.
In hockey, the Penguins beat the Capitals five to three.
Sidney Crosby two goals in that game, and just to
finish off news in the NFL, Sauce Gardner cleared the
leagu's concussion protocol and he's expected to play in Week
(34:44):
ten against Falcons to make his Colt's debut, brock Perty
is getting closer to his return. According to head coach
Kyle Shanahan, they'll make a decision on Friday whether or
not he'll suit up Sunday versus the Rams.
Speaker 1 (34:57):
Back to you, guys, thanks for robrey 's on the Suns.
I know you're very happy.
Speaker 4 (35:02):
It's the biggest win of the season so far.
Speaker 1 (35:04):
For sure.
Speaker 4 (35:04):
Oh, I'm like texting Moncey and really I'm you know,
just rubbing that in her face.
Speaker 1 (35:08):
Oh wow, Yeah. Okay, Fight night two best friends bringing
Monty Monty Clipper fan Bree Suns fan.
Speaker 4 (35:17):
Miss her so much. Is usually her night.
Speaker 1 (35:19):
When Monty shows up here to fight you. Okay, that'll
be saying the same. Come on in if you will.
I'm your Poppachulo. No exit ut out, a Fresco exit
swollen down The Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Carmon Coming up next. You want a hot take
coming off of Thursday Night Football, We got one for
you next and involves all the best teams in the league. Allegedly,
(35:42):
I said best teams they could be. If they beat
the Jets, they might be the best team. They're gonna
that's next. Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (35:50):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 1 (35:57):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Carmen. Thursday Night football goes to the Broncos
ten to seven. I know you're looking at her phone
right now, ready to go? No halftime, right, No, game's
over ten to seven. That was your final. Should have
just played with a running qua and seven? They did.
(36:18):
I don't know if you know that they did. They
didn't tell you that.
Speaker 2 (36:21):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (36:21):
Now, the Broncos improved eight and two, right, we talked
about how bad this game was. The Broncos defense was
terrific tonight, the offense not so much. And again we're
gonna have a ten year conversation. Is bo Nick's elite?
Just like we did? Is Joe Flacco elite? Bo Nick?
Joe Flacco? Congratulations. But we're at the midway point of
the season, right, and to hold up here, because here
(36:43):
are the Broncos at eight and two, best record in
the AFC. Usually, by now in the NFL, when you
get to the midway point of the year, there's two
or three teams that generally have the consensus opinion that
they're the teams in the NFL. They don't have any problems,
(37:03):
they're terrific. Any given Sunday on a neutral field, they
will beat whoever you put up against them. Right, generally,
there's two or three teams that way that you feel
that way about. This is kind of an outlier of
a season because right now there is nobody who was
a contender, a top contender that you can say they're
(37:25):
the best team in the NFL, because I could very
easily give you arguments to the opposite about every team
we think is great. Are the Rams great? Eh? The
Rams aren't dominating teams. They still show you, hey, we
can lay an egg and lose to a team that
we shouldn't be losing too. Right, Yes, we're a couple
of special teams plays away from maybe being undefeated. You
(37:46):
also would have had another loss of the Colts of
ad Ni Mitchell held onto the football. Right. The Eagles, Yeah,
you think the Eagles are really good, but they got problems.
They got problem offensively, they got issues with trying to
get the ball up and down the field. Saquon Barkley,
he's not been great Tampa Bay. Okay, maybe Tampa Bay
is great. Now, last couple weeks, Tampa Bay's not been good.
The Bills have lost games they shouldn't be losing. The
(38:07):
Patriots have played absolutely nobody. You're never gonna convince me
that they're any good. Oh, the Chiefs are great. No,
the Chiefs are one game over five hundred. The Chiefs
have problems. The Steelers have all kinds of problems. Nobody
is at the point where I can say, hey, right now,
against twenty nine or thirty other teams in the NFL,
(38:28):
they'll win. The only toss up is if they play
one of the other two teams. That's really really terrific.
Right now, nobody is really terrific. All we have right
now is potential for being terrific, which we'll get into
the next hour. But right now, I can't tell you.
I can't consit here and say and give you an
argument that, yeah, this team they are better. They are
better than everybody else. They're on the top two teams.
They can beat almost anybody in any kind of game.
(38:50):
There is no team that exists like that in the NFL.
That's an outlier. Usually we don't get parody like that,
but both college football and the NFL this year we
have that well it's Ohio State really really good. Yeah,
I think Ohio State's good, but I don't know how
many great teams they've beaten. I don't know if Julian
Saym's really that great Heisman Trophy guy who is Ohio State.
So you can say that again, it's a crazy year
(39:12):
in college football and it's one of those years in
the NFL too. Yeah. For the NFL, I mean this
sets up a great second half of the year, right
because you still have a lot of teams. We were
talking a lot about the you know, the idea of hope, change,
possibility and everything earlier in the week, and certainly as
you get your Mets gear back out, you're wishing, wanting,
(39:33):
hoping that you get a schoobl under the tree. But
you're looking at the NFL and for Roger Goodell sits
and fans across the country and globe, you're going, all right,
we still have a chance. All right. You got the
Colts that are at plus one oh nine for their
point differential. Next up Seattle Seahawks at plus eighty one. No,
(39:54):
are you trusted like you got the Sam darnold the question. No, right,
and we can do this for every team where you
check up. All right, Green Bay at times looks special,
at other times they look like a bunch of jags.
Oh yeah, right, so not consistent at all. So go
on down the line. The Bears great. There there are moments.
There are moments where you're still wanting to throw your
(40:16):
coffee mug through the TV as you watch the offensive
set and go to work. So I think that sets
up really nicely for us. If you look at the
betting odds as they sit today, the Chiefs are the
favorite at plus five fifty, followed directly by the Bills
and plus six hundred blindly following the Chiefs because oh,
they got their weapons. Now they're going to absolutely put it. Okay, Okay, well,
(40:38):
I mean a lot of it goes to and we'll
talk about it in earnest next hour. But it's the
all right, I trust that in a a group of
stuff that Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes have shown that
they can crawl through the mere and come out the
other side. Hence their betting dollars roll through. There were talking.
We're trying to ernest to the next hour Ernest Jackson,
(41:02):
Ernest Biner. Yeah, Ernest goes to jail. Hey, Vern, come on,
Jim Varney classic. You can do a Jim Varney impression
for a full hour. Ernest Gibbons talking to Ernest Givens.
Next hour, how about Ernest Thomas. I'm running at Ernest Thomas.
Speaker 2 (41:18):
Good.
Speaker 1 (41:18):
Okay, okay, we can just run what's happening line? Okay?
Taking into the street. Which two b u be Lions Philly?
The next two? Followed by the Rams, Packers, Colts, Seahawks,
and then these Broncos at sixteen to one. Exit out
about a Fresca exit swollen dome coming up next. Since
we're at the midway point of the NFL season, we
look back at a Big Bowl prediction we made before
(41:41):
Week one? Were we right? Fox
