(01:00):
Ripped the knob off right now. Two minutes to go
in the fourth quarter and the Minnesota Timberwolves, despite a
subpar night from Ann Edwards, are still hanging close to
Oklahoma City one twenty to one fourteen. Boy, A big
sequence of events a few moments ago where the Timberwlves
(01:22):
are looking to keep this a four point game and
the ball gets knocked out to Jalen Williams who is
sitting around going okay, I'm standing Houdy out here, I
gotta take a shot, and he hits a three and
that pushes the lead back out to seven. One of
those demoralizing possessions defensively, You know you saw it unfolding.
(01:45):
As soon as that happened, you said, that's gotta kill them,
that's gotta kill them.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
But like that, several sequences in a row the Timberwolves
where they're playing great defense, shot clock winding down, and
then the ball gets knocked away and app to a
teammate you had one earlier, chet fighting up towards the
just pass the free throw line, has it knocked away,
has presence of not to just slap it back towards
(02:11):
the baseline where he's got a teammate waiting for an
easy layup like it has just been a couple of sequences.
Is like wow, that is the worst. Because you committed
to playing team defense, you're getting the ball out of
the playmaker's hands and it's just finding the right hothand
I mean Jalen Williams on the night thirteen to twenty four,
he's up to thirty four points, six of nine from
(02:33):
three point range. You got Gildas Alexander thirty five points,
only eight free throws in the game, so the free
throw merchant chants and everything that are certainly alive and
well but not existing here. But just great balance from
the rest of the Timberwolves to be keeping a game
because both Anthony Edwards and Julius Randall have some explaining
(02:55):
to do.
Speaker 1 (02:56):
Right now, it's a five point lead for the Thunder.
It looked like it was gonna get cut to two,
but Chet Holmgren McDaniels goes in for the spinning lefty
layup and he pins it to the backboard. Oklahoma City
comes out with the basketball. They have it now with
thirty five seconds left to go, a five point lead.
(03:19):
That could have been disastrous for Oklahoma City, but Chet
with an absolutely huge Your guy, he'll be the one arm,
He'll be the one armed, He'll be the one name superstar.
There was a man in my house he had one arm.
He'll be a one named superstar pretty soon he'll just
be chet twenty one to seven for him. And that
was his third block of the game. Another big effort
(03:40):
from home Gren. You got a big three working for OKC.
Speaker 3 (03:44):
So time out on the floor. Right now.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
It is Oklahoma City leading Minnesota now one twenty three
to one twenty one. After Anthony Edwards misses a three,
the rebound is picked up, a three is hit by
Minnesota to make it a two point game. So make
it one twenty three to one twenty one. However, now
Sga at the free throw line because Minnesota had to
(04:09):
foul let a few more seconds tick off the clock.
We expect him to Shay Gilders Alexander the free throw line.
He is seven for eight for the game. He has
a chance to potentially put this away making two, but
still in a very subpar game for ann Edwards, Minnesota
still has a chance here with fourteen seconds lost.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
Jade McDaniels hit that three. He's up to twenty two
on the night, three of six from three point range.
You've gotten great contributions off the bench. You're looking at
a total of sixty two points coming off the bench
from Minnesota in this game. Stevincenzo with twenty one, Alexander
Walker with twenty three. The two of them combined ten
(04:48):
of sixteen from three point range. So here we go again.
Fourteen seconds left.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
SGA makes both free throws, so it's a four point lead.
Minnesota timeout with fourteen second it's left to go uh again.
Now time getting a little short uh, and you see
SGA is arguing with the official about something. I mean,
I know why they send you the free throw line
all the time. I would, I would be very nice
for the officials, but this is kind of where we sit.
Speaker 3 (05:13):
Well, that's it. Julius Randall, though one of seven from
the field, zero for three from three point range, he
has hit three of his four free throws, so he
got that going for you. But five points, four turnovers,
and a big minus three, a non factor offensively much
of the night. Anthony Edwards, as we talked about last hour,
went into halftime with four points. A lot of standing around.
(05:38):
This puts you into the Hey, the Hall of very
Good among current players. Right of what am I expecting
from you game to game? That's not a good place
to be.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
Commercial break now, so we'll get back to this game
coming up in definitis again, it's gonna be a little
bit to the end. It's probably some free throws going
on one eighteen one four or sorry, one twenty one
with four teen seconds left to go. Meanwhile, the other
big story out of basketball today, Caitlyn Clark is hurt
and she's gonna miss the next two weeks with a
quad strain that she suffered in the game against the
(06:11):
Liberty on Saturday. And and you know, two big takes
on this, And the first one is that nothing should
tell you that she's the biggest star in sports right
now more than the reaction when this story first broke today,
When this first broke and it's on social media, well,
because nobody knew she was hurt, she finished the game,
she was upset about not getting a foul call at
the end, and it's like.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
Okay, it's like whoa.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
People devastated for Caitlyn Clark, devastated for the league, devastated
Kitlyn Clark as well. This is a two week quad injury, right,
This is not where hey, hey, she's done for this
seat Like, you know what reminded me of It reminded
me when Brady got hurt and he got knocked out
for the year when he had the when he had
the acl tair back in twenty eleven, right, I want
(06:55):
to say, or two thousand and eight. It might have
been when Matt Castle had to come in. He got
when he got hitting, like week two, right, somebody and
and I can't, oh, man, I remember who?
Speaker 3 (07:06):
Oh no, it was hang on you.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
Say he was holding on to to Tom Brady. It
was so whoever it was, was somebody that did it.
A couple of times, heard a couple of different quarterbacks
that came in low and injured, and Brady's out for
the year in like week two, and you're like, sorry,
it was the Chiefs, Yes, Bernard Paul. So he gets
hit and he gets knocked out for the Season's whoa
(07:29):
Brady is? This is the middle of Brady's run. Is
the best quarterback on the planet. And the shock and
oh my god, we're losing him. It's the whole season.
Brady is out, Matt Castle comes in. It was actually
the last time a team won as many games they
did in the regular season didn't make the play I
think they won eleven game that didn't make the playoffs.
But that was the reaction for Kaitlyn Clark today, what's
gonna happen? What games is she missing? Like, we don't
(07:49):
do this if Lebron is out. We don't do this
when Giannis is out, when Brunson or any other big
stars out. But we don't do it in the NFL
when guys. But suddenly it's whoa Caaitlyn Clark? If anything,
that should tell you how that she's the biggest star
in sports right now, not the biggest star in the WNBA,
not the biggest star in basketball. The reaction to her
injury should tell you everything. We could talk about TV
(08:12):
ratings and what her games are doing compared to NBA
playoff game. We could do that till till you're blue
in the face and Kaitlyn Clark is always gonna win.
But you want to see just the reaction on the
on the street of what people think when this story
broke today. That was what I saw all over social
media reaction for Kaitlyn Clark.
Speaker 3 (08:28):
We had all the estimates of what she means to
the league, and start going down all of those path
Sports Business Journal and all the Supruter film of what
play did she get hurt on? There? She is at
a time out and it looks like she's got, you know,
a heating pad, an apparatus fixed to her leg, going
back to the quad injury she had in the preseason, Say.
Speaker 2 (08:49):
No, no, no, not related other leg.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
You know, really as much of a deep dive as
you're gonna get. But certainly a lot of people gripping going.
It's only two weeks, right, right, Please only be two weeks.
When you talk about the number of nationally televised games
that you've had with the fever, the number of arenas
that have been sold out, right, talk about it with
the Atlanta Dream in some of these other games where
(09:14):
you're getting massive gait. Now those tickets are sold, those
aren't going away, and you've got other stars to sell.
But let's call it what it is, what stirs the
drink for this league. And you know, when we talk
about the pantheon of women athletes right now, she's sitting alone.
Right even with all the individual sports and greatness that
we see across Olympic sports, across tennis and whatever else,
(09:37):
Caitlin Clark rules it all. So any injury that takes
her off of the playing field for any length of time,
it doesn't necessarily mean that that magnifying glass goes and
finds another star. Plenty of great athletes and stars across
the WNBA, oh yeah, make no mistake, absolutely, but they're
not the same. Come on, Angel Reese is gonna put
(09:58):
the league on her backs. Look, man, I saw the
graphic someone put on on social media. I want to
give him credit for it, so I have to rediscover it.
But it was shooting percentage for Angel Reese is thirty
five and change, and it said trying to make her shots.
And then it had Jontay Porter, who was suspended forever
for fixing games, and he had a higher field goal percentage.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
If you really want to have a conversation about Caitlyn
Clark and best players in the game, make it Caitlyn
Clark and Asia Wilson. Right, there's Kate, Caitlyn Clark and
Angel We told you a year ago, and everybody else
needs to be jumping on this now. Angel Reese is
Dennis Rodman, Right, She's Dennis Robin. She's a rebounder, and
she's a big star, and she's a star off the floor,
and she's someone that has a lot of fame. She's
(10:41):
not nearly the player Caitlyn Clark is right. If you
want to have that conversation, that's really where it is.
But congrats everybody else that's coming around to this a
year before we did.
Speaker 3 (10:49):
Natalie took it a year.
Speaker 5 (10:50):
What are you gonna do?
Speaker 1 (10:51):
The other thing I will tell you is this is
that by game I thought it would be earlier, but
by game thirty ish in the W, the Fever will
be generally considered the best team in the W all right. Now,
they may not have the best record, but they made
a lot of changes to their team. They only brought
back five players, right, you have some players they are
(11:11):
still trying to figure out their way in.
Speaker 5 (11:13):
Right.
Speaker 1 (11:13):
You still kind of got a Houston, Natasha Howard and
Dewanna Bonner. You have a lot of moving parts, right,
And so you saw them play this game Saturday. They
should have run away from the liberty, but the liberty
of the champs and they knew how to close a game.
And clearly the Fever are still trying to figure that
out with their new players, their new situation. I'm not saying, Look,
they lost the game. Can't complain about fouls at the end.
(11:34):
Not a foul on Caitlyn Clark on the final play
was a steal. The ball was taken. Legit, you can't
see her not playing out Yep, it was, but you
could tell, Hey, these are the champs and this early
in the season, the Fever were running them out of
the building. But again, because you're the champs, you know
how to come back in this game. You know how
to lockdown of what they needed to do, and the
Fever are still figuring it out. But once they do
(11:55):
and how Caitlyn Clark will probably miss the next five
ish games. So give them another fifty teen or so games,
get into the the last third of the season, and
the Fever will be considered the best team in the WNBA.
They added so much talent. It's another year of dominance
for Caitlin Clark. Now it's gonna be a little bit
more because you have the new players just trying to
fit in. And now Clark's not gonna be on the
(12:15):
court for a coupley shouldn't be that long when she
gets back, but yeah, okay, go so another fifteen to
twenty games after she returns and then you're gonna see
the Fever will be the best team in the w
That's also she got a lot of time to go
back and review that tape and recognize how careless she
was with the basketball on a number of possessions, because
didn't she end up when double digits and turnovers?
Speaker 3 (12:36):
Right? They officially got to ten and the FISA Collier
now your MVP favorite for this with.
Speaker 1 (12:47):
Court she third coming in she was third, second or third?
Speaker 3 (12:51):
Gods? Yeah, so she slides ahead because of the expected
time miss by Clark and again, you know, for the
league and for the bestketball watching public.
Speaker 1 (13:01):
Yeah, you hope it's only two weeks. Yeah, I mean
it kind of has to be. But I'm telling you
she comes back and it's a couple of weeks by
game third is going to be who can stop the fever?
Who can stop the fever? And maybe cow No, I
tell you, I'll tell you fellas.
Speaker 3 (13:14):
I mean, it's in variation. John Fogerty should get back
in the studio, the only thing that can stop the rain?
Who will stop the fever? Explore the court?
Speaker 1 (13:21):
Really, I mean really tell you. Yeah, I'll tell you, guys,
I could have used a few more threes from the logo.
I tell you, could he hear those?
Speaker 6 (13:28):
When I saw the story today, Yeah, I initially thought
that maybe she went like Nancy Kerrigan on Caitlin Clark.
Oh wow, I don't remember her getting hurt in the game. No,
she was fine after the game.
Speaker 1 (13:41):
It's one of those things that probably cropped up at
she probably started feeling not even at the game, not
even uh No, it's one of those things that probably
cropped up after. Hey, I'm having trouble moving around and
after the adrenaline from the game wears off. Well, it
was a big game, right, You're playing the champs, right,
and you have a chance to have your first big
(14:01):
signature win of the year. Yeah, beating the Chicago Sky
your first game that was. Now his time goes on
it maybe that's not going to be that big, that
big a deal as time goes on, and I might
not be that big a deal. So I'm telling you
about game number thirty, Watch Out Fever, Best Team w
and this.
Speaker 3 (14:19):
Guy might only lose their games by twenty mine.
Speaker 1 (14:21):
M mmm, exit out about a Fresca exit swelling down
the Jason Smiths Or with Mike Carmon live from the
Fox Sports Radio studios. So where are we right now
with the thunder and the tables? We told you it
was going to be free throw free throws. It looks
like the t Wolves at worst are going to get
one chance at the end to potentially tie this game.
It's a one twenty six, one five lead for the
(14:44):
Thunder Sga is fouled in the backcourt. He will be
going to the free throw line for two shots. He
makes them both. It's a three point lead with six
seconds left to go. So, best case scenario for the
Thunder they're up three. Bet worst case for the for
the for the Tea Wolves, hey we're chasing three. They
still have time to meet That final shot off the
(15:06):
not godemic'ld be a big rush three. So as we continue,
are we talking about an incredible Minnesota Timberwolves comeback on
a night Anthony Edwards had disappeared for most of the game.
Speaker 3 (15:16):
Or is it a.
Speaker 1 (15:17):
Strangle hold for the Oklahoma City Thunder. It's coming up
next right here, Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (15:25):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 3 (15:37):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmon. Yeah, it is a final in Minnesota.
Our manager and boss, Scott Shapiro, high your ears.
Speaker 1 (15:51):
The Thunder beat the Timberwolves one twenty eight to one
twenty six. They take a three games to one lead
in the Western Conference Finals. A forty point night from
Shay Gildess Alexander go along with ten assists and nine rebounds.
Anthony Edwards meanwhile sixteen points on a five of thirteen
(16:12):
shooting night. Now we'll have more on Anthony Edwards and
SGA coming up in a couple of seconds.
Speaker 3 (16:17):
We break down. Look, why did I tell you the
Thunder We're gonna win this series? Exactly what we've seen
in the last four games. But how did we get here?
Is it? The headband the Thunder out of three point
lead and Anthony Edwards and the t Wolves having a
chance to get a three to try to tie the game. However,
Edwards is fouled on the floor and not in the bonus.
(16:37):
He goes the free throw line for two shots. He
makes the first to make a one to twenty eight,
one twenty six, so he needs to miss the second.
The Tea Wolves need to get the rebound and score
to try to send the game to overtime. And here's
what happened on the second free throw Edwards Banks shot
no good rebound kills us.
Speaker 5 (16:56):
Alexander holds it, throws it down, the.
Speaker 3 (16:58):
Court goes out with one tenth of a second remaining.
Speaker 1 (17:05):
So there's Mike Breen on ESPN. The Thunder actually throw
the ball out of bounds and it's really where like
Hartenstein is ready to grab the ball at mid court
and hold it for the last second, but the ball
is chucked up court and it goes out of bounds.
So the Tea Wolves get one last shot with three
tenths of a second left on the clock, and the
(17:27):
they try to throw in. All they can do is
one of those alley you plays where you barely touch it.
The Thunder able to break up the pass and they
win one twenty eight six.
Speaker 3 (17:35):
And you're trying to throw it over chat Holmgren who's
guarding the inbound now, so you're not getting any kind
of angle arc or over the top to get it
far enough.
Speaker 1 (17:44):
Now, let me just say this because before we get
to before we get to Sja and ed Edwards, I
do have to say sometimes crowd can control again, because
you say, oh, the crowd has no impact. No, no, no, no, no,
the crowd can actually have an impact on the game.
Speaker 3 (17:57):
So after this.
Speaker 1 (18:01):
Missed free throw, which is a miss on purpose by
Anthony Edwards because because you kind of have no choice,
you gotta be able to get the ball, there's only
three seconds left to go. So Edwards misses the free throw,
and the ball bounces around a little bit and SGA
tries to throw it down court just to get it
away and hopefully the clock takes zero. But I said,
he throws it out of bounds at mid court. Now,
(18:22):
a fan, I don't know who it was because we're
talking to doing the show at the same time, but
a fan on the sidelines stood up and caught the basketball.
Speaker 3 (18:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (18:31):
Right, So because the fan caught the basketball, they go
back and look at the time and say, okay, we
can put three tenths of a second back on the clock.
Speaker 3 (18:39):
Now, honestly, it looked like.
Speaker 1 (18:40):
They could have put five tents of a second back
on because it looks like the fan who stands up
and catches the ball, there's like still half a second left.
If this fan doesn't stand up to catch the ball,
and the ball keeps going and lands out of bounds,
likely the clock hits zero. And there's no chance for
Minnesota to tie the game or potentially winning at the end.
Speaker 3 (18:59):
This fan or whoever.
Speaker 1 (19:00):
It was, instead of being caught the ball, got the
t Wolves and inbounds play to potentially tie or win
the game.
Speaker 3 (19:07):
It could be it could be Scott Spireau at the game.
Speaker 1 (19:10):
But because this guy is standing up and he catches
the ball, like okay, when the guy step catches the ball, boom,
as soon as that happens out of bounds, right out
of bounds. It's that the fan isn't reaching onto the court.
The fan is, you know, standing up, person is standing
up a good five or six feet off of out.
Speaker 3 (19:26):
You gotta protect this house. Yeah yeah, So.
Speaker 1 (19:28):
If that, if he doesn't catch it, that ball go
just continues to go and lands on the floor. Likely
the rest of the time ticks out, and that's they
don't even get a chance. Whoever caught that ball got
the t Wolves and offensive possession.
Speaker 3 (19:40):
It's also the curiosity though of how they settled on
point three. Again, there was more to it when he
touched the ball, but like, what's does he have to
control it? I mean I don't know.
Speaker 1 (19:53):
I mean, look, because that affects the play because with
with five tenths of the second, you could get a
quick catching, sure, right, But with three tents of a second,
it can only be Like they the NBA has ruled
that unless there's there's at least three tenths of a second,
you can't you can't make a play, right. So that's
why whenever you get down to one tensi of a second,
usually they set the clock back to three tents like
darn Fisher, Yeah, but like that, but but like all
(20:17):
you can do at that point is throw and hopefully
just get a tap, and that's what it is. But
with five tenths of a second, you can get a
quick throw and a quick catch, an immediate shot, and
it's a little bit better off. So I really thought
that's where they would go with it, because honestly, it
looks like when he first touches, like when his hands
first get into contact with the ball, there's maybe six
(20:37):
tenths of a second left. But by the time you
really see, okay, the guy's got it, there's five tenths
of a second if he puts his hands out and
maybe he doesn't, bit don't let the ball come to
put your hands all the way out and get it right.
Speaker 3 (20:47):
Don't let the ball come to you.
Speaker 1 (20:48):
That's another tenth of a second you could have got,
put your hands out, touched just touch the basketball, just
touch it.
Speaker 3 (20:53):
You would have done it more well because you also
had heartstead and look it back on what the hell
are we doing?
Speaker 2 (20:57):
Right?
Speaker 3 (20:57):
I don't know if he felt like he was being
you know, this was a fan interference kind of situation
like we've had in baseball so many times. But yeah,
when they went back to review it again, curious as
how they settle on point three. But either way, the
attempt to get the ball back up towards the rim
(21:17):
and have some sort of crazy ass Jokich Aaron Gordon
finish fails. So now we've got a three to one
lead for okay, so this fan gets the keys to
the city.
Speaker 1 (21:26):
Though, right, well, I don't know, they didn't wait one.
They didn't win tough. Oh that is true. Yeah, yeah,
you're right there. Well Annie, you got you throw out
the first ball the Twins game.
Speaker 3 (21:35):
Yeah you know, yeah, you get a mini statue next
to Mary Tyler Moore or something.
Speaker 1 (21:40):
And TJ clearly he could turn the world on by
catching that ball out of bounds.
Speaker 6 (21:44):
You get to skip Anthony Edwards in line and the
face of the league. That is true.
Speaker 3 (21:50):
Oh man, you talk about taking a nothing day and
suddenly make it all seem worthwhile. That happened, So again,
kudos whoever. And I'm trying to see who it was, like,
I'm trying to find social media. If they haven't, you
know who it was.
Speaker 1 (22:01):
That's minnisode about them all. Uh, it could have been
Tom Googliata. Maybe it was Googs trying to get that.
You never know, dobber from from from coach Wow you
in Minnesota and coach the Screaming Eagles Minnesota. Still, Sir
Patrick Starr, Come on now.
Speaker 3 (22:17):
It wasn't a he would have dropped it. Oh come on, too.
Speaker 1 (22:20):
Soon for that, too soon for that. Come on, it's not.
I mean, yeah, probably, but it's still too soon. Still
too soon, still too soon. So three to one thunder
and this is the big take. Look, this is why
are we had three to one thunder? And it goes
back to why I picked the thunder from the beginning
of the playoffs, why I picked him in this route. Look,
it's you and I in this You had the t
(22:41):
walls which made a huge run. Not many people picked
them to get this far. But when it came, when
it came from me said, Okay, when it comes down
to it, I have confidence that SGA, being the MVP
that he is just before the series, is gonna give
you consistently great superstar performances, right, because he is that
good points, ten assists, and nine rebound sign I mean,
(23:02):
the guy almost has a triple double with forty points. Right,
This is how good the guy is. When he's not
having a great game, he finds a way to affect
the game still, mainly by getting to the free throw line.
What's happening in the free throw line? Thirty one thirty
eight in the first two wins, I think got blown
out in the last game. Obviously they lose by forty points,
so he didn't have as many may only played twenty
eight minutes.
Speaker 3 (23:22):
Oh, they were getting beat early. Yeah, it was the
usual offensive sets. They ended up shooting forty four to
three point shots in that game. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (23:29):
The games that were the games that were there, that
were that were up in the air were after the
first half of Game one and tonight and SGA thirty one,
thirty eight and forty Right, those were just thirty one thirty, eight, fourteen,
and forty Right. So in the games in which the
Thunder needed something right, it was Sga in the second
(23:50):
half of Game one who was terrific got to the
free throw line, and Tonight continued to make plays and
get to the free throw line, and he was every
bit the VP.
Speaker 3 (24:00):
Right. I knew he would be consistently great. The rebound
short of a triple.
Speaker 1 (24:03):
Double Tonight Anthony Edwards had two shots in the first
half of the game. Yeah, And I told you the
Thunder because Anthony Edwards, as much as you want to
make him the face of the league, and they want
to make him great before he really is. And Edwards
still gives you a couple of games a series which
he disappears, and you had Chris Finch call him out
(24:25):
after Game one against the Nuggets in the last series,
and Edwards just gave you the answer you did not
want to hear. No, I thought I played really well.
I thought I played well. To fact, I thought I
played well. No, dude, you need to set the tone.
You need to come out and be the leader.
Speaker 3 (24:36):
And Chris Finch saying that two weeks ago, it's still
true now because Edwards has had two games this series
in which the team needed more from him, needed him
to set the tone, needed him to come through big,
and he is not right. He was really good in
game two and is really good in Game three, But
the games you need him for Game one, Game four,
(24:58):
eighteen and sixteen, I've out of thirteen from the floor
in both games. He takes thirteen shots from the floor,
third most on the tea Wolves tonight third most, and
two shots in the first half. This is not hey,
He's being kept out of the game. He's being hounded defensively.
He's not able to get in the game. If that
(25:19):
was the case, the stats would be he'd be five
for twenty one, five for twenty five, eight for twenty five.
But when you're five for thirteen, I mean, come on, man,
you can't if you're the you're the best player on
the team, one of the big stars, leave, if you're
the face of the league. You don't take thirteen shots
in a in a Western Conference finals game when your
team needs you to be the leading scorer. They stayed
in it as long as they did tonight because the
(25:40):
bench played out of their shoes.
Speaker 1 (25:42):
Right their bench came out, they had nine threes in
the first half of the game. It's wow, the Vincenzo
was terrific. This was they should have not been in
this game. This is a game Oklahoma City should have
won going away, because again it was another soft game
for An Edwards. And it's not that Ann Edwards is
having terrible games, not like suddenly that but eighteen and three, sixteen,
(26:03):
six and four, that's a nice game. That's not a
superstar game. You and you win championships, your superstars have
to play great. There's no teams that won where you go. Boy,
Luckily so and so stepped up because their superstar was
terrible like this is and Edwards needing to set the tone,
needing to do more, and he didn't. And tonight's game
you come off a one forty three one oh one
(26:25):
drubbing in game three, you come out big in this game,
and Oklahoma City says, okay, we're putting it away, right,
We're putting it away right. He didn't need him to
score fifty, just come out and be aggressive. He takes
two shots in the first half.
Speaker 3 (26:35):
Two shots.
Speaker 1 (26:36):
Man, Edwards, everything I told you the beginning of the
series is coming true. So now it's two games out
of four and Edwards has been a no show. I said,
two games out of six, and that's that's gonna be now.
It could be now, it could be over in five
two of the games, half the games in the series,
he has shown up somewhat soft, not ready to take control,
and didn't try to take control.
Speaker 3 (26:55):
But that's the thing. You have to be aggressive and
see if you're can get the calls, make the defense work,
maybe you can get one or more of these guys
into foul trouble. None of that existed, and the tag
team partner, you know, Julius Randall was a nineteen and
seven guy. During the regular season, he disappeared again, played
(27:15):
twenty eight minutes, relegated to an awful lot of bench time.
Once again, the bench for the Timberwolves was fantastic to
the point right, hit all ten of their free throws,
and you're looking at twelve out of twenty from three
point range. You looked at Devincenzo and Alexander Walker keeping
them in the game. But the passivity of your stars
(27:37):
is just mind boggling. Right, you got the opportunity on
your home court to even things up, and you come
out that flat, that pass if you look at the
shot chart. I mean, it's embarrassing. You get two of
six in the third quarter, two of four and the
fourth for Julius Randall seven shots the entire game. Seven.
(27:57):
This is the guy that's been one of your your
leaders throughout the season. And that doesn't mean that you
weren't banking on McDaniels and others to come up big,
but their bonus, right, You gotta at least have a
baseline in terms of shot attempts and aggressiveness to get
yourself into a position to win. And the fact that
they were still at this level at the end of
(28:19):
this game is nothing short of remarkable, because you saw
everybody on OKC that you were making you had expectations on.
They were huge, and they got bonus from Jalen Williams.
He goes for thirty four. He was unconscious tonight thirteen
to twenty four Homegron twenty one and seven. The big
block at the end, pinning the ball up against the rim.
(28:41):
You know, a margin of inches between a goaltend and
a clean block. Because they went back on the broadcast
and probably looked at that from every angle they could
possibly bring. I was waiting for that, you know, phantom
camera thing that Lebron keeps complaining about to show up
for that one as well. But all of it to say,
Anthony Edwards, this is the guy that was getting the push.
(29:02):
This was the next guy, and SGA is just well
he's pushed him off. I quite and distance himself quite
a bit, because now you're left with more questions than
answers if you're a Timberwolves fan and a member of
that organization, because it looked like you were that close
and now you're giving away games because he's a no show.
Speaker 1 (29:23):
It's really if you're a big superstar, if you're the
face of the league, you don't have this, well you
go down to dagon.
Speaker 7 (29:29):
Right.
Speaker 3 (29:29):
For all the criticism of James Hardin, at no point
did you ever look at him and say, oh, he's
got four shots, all right? Yeah, and anything it was
that elbow's gonna fly into the third deck because the
guy won't stop.
Speaker 1 (29:42):
Just to give you a reminder, this is Chris Finch.
He could have said this tonight right after the game,
but he actually said this two weeks ago after Game
one when they lost to the Nuggets.
Speaker 3 (29:52):
And it's still true tonight.
Speaker 4 (29:53):
What is there to talk about I mean, they're the
leader of the team, and you got to come out
and set the tone. You know, in all ways that
that happens. And if it's if your SHOT's not going
like you, you still have to carry the energy, you know.
So I don't think there's if I got to talk
to guys about having the right energy coming into opening
(30:14):
around game, opening the second round game, then you know
we're not you know, we're not on the same page.
Speaker 3 (30:19):
So that could he have said that tonight? Could he
said that after game one in the thunder just held
up his cell phone and started playing it. Yeah, I
said this a couple of weeks ago. Let me say
it any better. Hang on, it's on, so hang on,
let me see it. NBA sent tells got it. Hang on,
let me find it, let me find here. You go here,
I listen to it right there. Let's be right there.
Speaker 1 (30:37):
Uh so again I told you, And Edward's not that guy.
A guy who is that guy is Martin Weiss. He's
got what's trending right now in the wide world of sports.
Speaker 3 (30:46):
Shoot it right now.
Speaker 5 (30:48):
I'm locked in body.
Speaker 7 (30:49):
The eleventh inning, Miami and San Diego three to three,
A wild pitch. It Padres walk it off in the
bottom of the eleventh inning on a wild pitch to
beat the Marlins four to three.
Speaker 6 (31:01):
Jake, Now for what we do here, prosperg we never
lead with the po Frosburgers, got Fred, you gonna have
a conversation with you about pop leading with the Padres
over the Dodgers.
Speaker 7 (31:12):
See this is where Prosberg giventh and Frostburg take it away,
because in my last last hour, he gave me a
hell of an assist. As I turned the microphone onto
Carolina scored their second.
Speaker 5 (31:22):
Goal to just now, you made me jump out of
my skin. I was like, no, that got that Watson.
Speaker 3 (31:27):
They're on the field, they're celebrating. What out?
Speaker 5 (31:29):
What's wrong?
Speaker 7 (31:30):
I got one other game live in Major League Baseball
the Yankees.
Speaker 5 (31:34):
I have a five to one lead over the Angels.
Speaker 7 (31:37):
In the eighth inning Western Conference Finals, Game four.
Speaker 5 (31:40):
Oklahoma City takes a.
Speaker 7 (31:42):
Commanding three to one lead with a two point win
today one twenty eight to one, twenty six shake Gildis
Alexander with forty points on thirty shots.
Speaker 5 (31:51):
He got fourteen free throws, but the fouls weren't really.
Speaker 7 (31:53):
I mean, he was getting to the line but it
wasn't the same storyline as before. Really, with the story
of today's game, Jayden, when Williams and chet Holmgren combined
for fifty five apiece, Jalen Williams j double thirty four,
chet Holker with twenty one.
Speaker 5 (32:05):
Even I can do that math.
Speaker 7 (32:06):
Alex Caruso had ten off the bench for Oklahoma City,
and the bench was the story for Minnesota today because
as you heard the guys just talking about it, Anthony
Edwards a no show. Julius Randall even worse. Anthony Edwards
was five for thirteen with sixteen points, one for seven
from three. Julius Randall finished with five points on seven shots,
zero for three from three, and the only played twenty
(32:27):
eight minutes. The guys who kept Minnesota in this thing
and gave him really a shot to win the Kielle
Alexander Walker Letiman's going with twenty three, Jadon McDaniels had
twenty two, and Dante DiVincenzo had twenty one. Again kle Lee.
Of the four players who came off Minnesota's ben, she
had twenty three points out of Walk, Alexander Walker twenty one,
(32:48):
Devin Chanzeol Nazri had eleven and Terrence Shannon had nine.
That means almost ever actually not looking, every single player
played for the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Speaker 5 (32:56):
Outscored Julius Randall tonight, So that's fair.
Speaker 3 (33:00):
There's ben shoe.
Speaker 5 (33:01):
Tigers beat the Giants three to one. How you buyers
got ejected after it?
Speaker 3 (33:05):
How many points were Troy Hudson tonight for the t Wolves.
Speaker 7 (33:07):
You know, more than hey, more than Julius Randall, more
than Julius Randalls.
Speaker 3 (33:12):
All right, all right? How many for Gary Trent and
Wally Zerbiak?
Speaker 5 (33:14):
How many do they have?
Speaker 4 (33:15):
This? Oh?
Speaker 5 (33:16):
Wally?
Speaker 3 (33:17):
How many for Derek Martin? How many for him tonight?
Speaker 7 (33:20):
Orioles dig get? They got a home win. This is
only a ninth home win on the year for them.
So it's a momentous occasion of Baltimore five to two.
You know what, I'm buyers at the deadline per Jason
Lockock locking for Earlier today, Matt's beat the White Sox
two to one in the Jason Smith and Mike Harmon
ball and earlier today, Tony hit a first pitch leadoff
home run nineteen on the year to beat the Dodgers
(33:43):
beat the Guardians seven to two.
Speaker 3 (33:45):
Back to you guys, Thanks a bunch, Mart appreciated My
friend Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmon live from the
Fox Sports Radio Studios. Coming up next, there's an NBA
star I need to apologize to because after what's going
on in the NBA playoffs, I think I cursed him.
I think it's my fault that this guy has been
so bad. That's next, Jason to Mike Fox.
Speaker 6 (34:06):
Is it Jalen Bronson?
Speaker 3 (34:08):
Stop?
Speaker 2 (34:10):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 1 (34:18):
Fox Sports Radio. Mike Harmon knows the rules, and so
do I. We're gonna hear from Ann Edwards coming up
in a few minutes. Oh boy, meeting the media? Will
he take responsibility for a loss?
Speaker 3 (34:34):
Oh boy? Wait, don't you hear him? How about best
seth rollins. I need to apologize to Julius Randall. You say, wait,
you're going to apologize Randall? I do.
Speaker 4 (34:52):
I do.
Speaker 3 (34:52):
Here's why because and really the thunder should give me
a ring if they went it winning the title. It's
my fault. It should be your fault.
Speaker 1 (35:01):
Yes, because you know what did we say after Game
one right. Game one against the Oklahoma City Thunder, we said, look,
never stands the pulling guard, then you don't eat yellow snow. Yes, uh,
he keeps them in Game one, five threes in the
first half, and okay, all you could do twenty eight points,
(35:21):
eight rebounds, and what did we say? Hey, I feel
happy for the guy because being a one A guy
didn't really work. He didn't have the offensive game to
be a one A guy. He still took too many
shots and he couldn't take every time I had to
watch him, I'm gonna hold the ball to the end
of the shot clock.
Speaker 3 (35:38):
No, dude, they're just gonna run another defender out. You're
gonna turn it over.
Speaker 2 (35:41):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (35:41):
It just wasn't the start him when he when he
reached the stardom in New York. Hey, he was on
a bad team in twenty twenty, but he was terrific. Okay,
maybe things got a little bit too difficult for him
as far as what to expect from Randall. He's a
really good player on a bad team. But now, okay,
you want to be a really good player and a
good team. And as you saw over the course of
the last year plus when he was with the Knicks,
(36:04):
his impact on the game lessened. He didn't seem quite happy.
But he goes to Minnesota. Takes him while to assimilate
and now you look at the smile on his face.
Now good he has played over the course of the
past forty to fifty games, Right, it takes you a
little bit to get used to a new team. Sure,
and here he is. Doesn't need to be the one
A guy, could be the two guy, and you know,
once in a while, can be the one A guy.
(36:26):
And really he brings that that sort of ability to
a team that where I can be the number two
guy on a night, one guy once in a while,
but really, if I'm that third guy that I can
that I can sort of, you know, move a little
bit and fluctuate with what you need on me. As
far as a dependability, that's what he does well because
(36:47):
he's solid across the stat sheet. Randall does a lot.
Speaker 4 (36:50):
Right.
Speaker 1 (36:51):
This is why I'm apologize Julius Randall because he has
been absolutely terrible since I said that he has only
been one problem with him.
Speaker 3 (36:59):
One problem with him. It's what's that one problem? He's stunk?
That's my only problem. Sounds about right.
Speaker 1 (37:05):
Six points in Game two, five points on seven shots.
In Game four tonight five point seven. He has been
awful in two big games. He has absolutely just disappeared.
Speaker 3 (37:22):
I mean, you know, you laugh, just when I needed
emotion twenty eight, twenty four five. Right, it's my fault
because I said, so, hey, enjoying things here. Look at
Julius Randall away from the Knicks, you know, because he
had some time with the Knicks where all of a
sudden he would get sulling for a little while. It
would look like he wasn't happy. And why are you
not happy that they had to move on?
Speaker 1 (37:44):
There was a Lakers too. Yeah, that's kind of what
it is, is Randall. But but this is the first year
and it should be your honeymoon period. Right with Minnesota,
he's played really well. You would think in the conference
finals the honeymoon period would be feeling and flowing. Now,
after I said the greatest basketball life is, he's had
two of the worst games at the absolute worst time.
(38:06):
He and and Edwards both like this is a game
where somebody needed to step up, and instead, like Julius
Randall and Edward just said no, we're just gonna watch
the game. Go buy in front of us, everybody else
to go buy. All they needed was an average game
from both of them, and they got nothing.
Speaker 3 (38:22):
Right. Edwards passivity early, he finishes what sixteen five whatever,
it's a it's a mid stat line. But Randall is
a guy that averaged nineteen points a game for you.
He gives you five again, not aggressive, not trying to
get to the rack, a non factor there, and your
bench carried your asses today. They gave you every opportunity. Now,
(38:46):
the only thing Edwards did was why hitting that final
free throw? If you back the Timberwolves of the betting market,
you got your plus three or plus three and a half, sure, congratulations,
But beyond that, he gave you a whole lot of nothing.
And even that far, I don't throw in. Man, that's
the best heave you can get.
Speaker 4 (39:03):
Now.
Speaker 3 (39:03):
I mean, I know Chet's pretty tall.
Speaker 1 (39:05):
Chet's pretty tall, but still, I mean, look, I'm telling you,
it's my fault.
Speaker 3 (39:09):
It's my harmon, it's my fault. I think he heard you.
Speaker 1 (39:11):
It's my fault. And he got satisfied. Things are great
that he the Knicks guy, forgave me.
Speaker 3 (39:18):
A guy that was running me down all over it
say I need help pack, get me to Minnesota. He
forgave me and all was right with the word, and
then he relaxed in that that you got six points
in game two thirds your fault. Really it's it's amazing,
God's gonna hurt the no shows that he that you've
gotten from him and Ann Edwards. But but it's my
(39:38):
fault on Randall, not my fault for Edwards, but my
fault on Randall. So I'll take respond Edwards the way
in the world. If everybody's saying you're next, evidently wait,
don't we hear what NN Edwards has to say? Coming
up next, following the Tea Wolves loss of the thunder,
get ready Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio,
