R you're listening to Fox Sports Radio. I think you
need to patent to make a T shirt for Thundertakes
and then in the battle back back of the T
shirt and Thunder from down Under make it look like
an affliction T shirt that's got a howlement No. I
(00:40):
like that. I've got a big suite of I'm learning
how to do graphic design, trying to educate myself and
and you know, really find that secondary income stream and
make it easy and seamless, so that that will be
one of my projects. Absolutely I'm hoping. I mean, that
would be pretty cool. Funder for Doubt under the Jason

credit card questions require real people, someone who understands your
issues and works to resolve in with you. That's why
I discover offers helpful US based representatives available twenty four
seven discover exceptionally common sense. So last hour we talked
about the marquee game of the night in the NBA
National TV. The Sixers beat the Knicks. No one's surprises,
(01:23):
James Harden's home debut, and he had a big game,
and and Bead had a big game. And there's just
a different energy around this team. And I'm telling you
right now, if there's one team going to the NBA
Finals in the East, and that's the Sixers, if this
is the James Harden you're going to get and the
Sixers are this reinvigorated. Doc Rivers is laughing the intiman
they're playing the night, but Doc Rivers is laughing on
(01:45):
the court in the fourth quarter, even when it's a
close game. It's like the cloud was lifted when they
traded Ben Simmons, when they finally got out from under
that and now basketball is fun again. Everything is fun.
And James Harden, who has quit on a couple of teams, Hey,
now me, I'm not the and why everybody's a book.
He was quoted over the weekend of saying he's the
best teammate you could have so I mean you got
(02:06):
that going for you too, But I mean I imagine
that though Jason, it's Brooklyn had it to a degree.
So you you understand too to some level what Hardens
frustration was of you know, you're trying to go all
in to win a title. That's why you all came
to Brooklyn, right, he was the last piece added. So
in theory it was all right, you guys are there
(02:26):
and you want me to put it over the top.
And then because you you won't go through the vaccination
process and again personal choice and not to get into
the fight over that. But that was Harden's frustration. And
I can imagine over time, because you're picking up now
extra minutes trying to win games, then Durant gets hurt.
Who's supposed to come back tomorrow? From the last reports
(02:47):
I saw that, you know, that starts to wane on you, right,
starts to really wear and wear on the locker room
and the coaching staff. Right. Steve Nash at times didn't
want to address any of it and got a little
snippy at times and has had to go into protocol himself.
But then you have, you know the same thing with
Ben Simmons of he's not answering, he's he can't be convinced,
(03:09):
you know that he's wanted to to take another shot
at it and decided he was going you know them,
I'm done altogether. So frustration in the locker room again
to the coaching staff. That's a guy you were banking
on giving you good defense, giving you the what seventeen
nine and and five or whatever he was gonna give
(03:31):
you on a nightly basis that you suddenly have to
try to move around parts and find other fits and
and especially defensively, that that's a huge loss, right. That
was the one of the calling cards for that six
ers team is that you had three guys that were
on the all defensive teams a year ago. So now
(03:52):
you know, you get that weightlifted off, and while you
have to integrate, hardened and retool things to make sure,
you know, everybody just gets gets in and the skill
sets mesh as quickly as possible, and a dead sprint
in the second half of the season. You know what,
there's a lot of energy in the room that comes
(04:14):
with a change like that, So be curious to see
how much and how far they're able to write it
when they're not playing the Knicks every night. Well but
but here's the other part of it is that it's
it's not just Harden and him Bead, which is a
big deal. Look that mean for him, Beat is so
happy now. He seems the happiest. He's he's so happy now,
dwelling Beat. But the shut that guy down when he's
(04:37):
StAst her Why you know, hey, you're late. Yeah, big
fashion thing and yeah yeah yeah, no, no blank late.
I know that already. But but look at the effect
on the team already, and and and look at his backcourt.
Make Tyres Maxie, who was having an incredible season. He's
only twenty one. Since they got Hardened, He's had twenty
points in every game. He's had three twenty point games
(05:00):
in his last twelve previous to this. But since they
got James, Harden had twenty five tonight. He had four
three tonight. He had a huge three in the fourth
quarter when the Knicks had cut it to seven, and
he makes this big turnaround double double deek shot that
I say to myself, come on, man, how the hell
does that go in? I mean, this is this is
one of those domino effects that Harden's got on the
(05:21):
rest of the team, and you know Max, he's fast,
and you know this is this is like a perfect
backcourt pairing as well with Harden. I mean, this is
the I I don't think it's just gonna be the
Knicks that the Sixers are gonna do this too. They're
gonna do this to teams the rest of the regular season.
It's gonna be kind of like, ah, the effect the
Nets had when the Big three first started playing together.
It's Wow, they're just beating the crap out of everybody.
(05:43):
Then of course it fell apart after like ten games,
but for that ten games, Wow, look at what they're doing.
They're winning games one thirty three to one hundred every
single night. I think that's what the Sixers are gonna
start doing. Man. It's they're just that good. And and
sometimes it's about a new energy as much as it's
about getting a new player, right, getting that new energy
in is worth its weight in gold, because you don't
(06:04):
understand that how over time you're not that your effort
gets less, but your enjoyment of the game uh WANs
a little bit, and your desire to do the extra
little bit that you need to WANs. And that's why
you see some teams beating teams like the Lakers, who
clearly don't do the extra things all the time. They
did it last night a little bit finally, but they're
(06:25):
not nearly consistent. And and you don't realize that when
you start losing and things don't go well, you have
a bad energy. You don't make all the plays you should.
And and that's what they say. The Lakers have horrible
energy right now. And you want to talk about two
teams in different directions. The Lakers couldn't get rid of
Russell Westbrook in the deadline and they are just free
falling now and every game just gets a little bit worse,
a little bit worse, a little bit worse, a little
(06:46):
bit worse. That's kind of how it goes, right. But
we watched last night. Hey, they played with energy and
they still wound up losing. And so the Lakers are
continually are continually showing that there's no way out. We
are spiraling down. Here's the Sixers, who are playing well enough,
needed something at the deadline. They had to get out
from under that because Simmons is weighing over the team.
And now it's a new day, I mean, it's it's
(07:06):
a brand new day in Philadelphia. And I'm telling you,
if Philadelphia is going to the finals, you're gonna see
the Sixers. It's gonna be the Sixers end. You know,
the Laker Now, it's gonna be the Sixers and the Warriors,
the Sixers in the Sun, Sixers of the Grizzlies. That's
gonna be your NBA Finals. It's hard for me to
see a team beating Philadelphia after this James Harden effect.
As long as this is the hard and they're gonna
(07:26):
get there, you go, starting of a brand new day.
But there's this part of it too, because this is
the other part of it, because there's another team that
played tonight unfortunately, and um, this is history. The Knicks
have now lost four games in a row. In all
four games they led by at least fifteen points. All right,
(07:47):
They're the first team to do this in years. They've
now lost four straight games in which they led by
at least fifteen points. That just doesn't happen. That's seeing
the plays well and then says, you know, forget it.
We're done. We're done. We're done with this season, We're
done with everything. We have such a negative energy around us.
I don't know that Nicks are gonna win again. That's
the question though, Jason, when when you get out and
(08:10):
you can play that well for a half, where where
are the adjustments to keep things moving well? The I
mean that that's that's the larger question, right. We talked
about in game adjustments, the white board at halftime, just
small things to to change it up to to keep
the And football is obviously a different game and Eban flow.
(08:32):
But you know, you've had huge leads and you keep
falling apart, and and granted you're playing good teams of late,
that that has not helped. Right during this current streak, Jason,
back to back with Philly, Miami, Brooklyn even though you
know eight seed, but still um Brooklyn. Uh you lost, Okay,
(08:52):
see only four point lost though, good job by you. Uh.
Portland's who's now sinking because trade and injuries. But then
Golden State you actually won that game, but then losses
to Denver and Utah. Oh wait, now the Lakers are
on that list now too. But it's the point is
that there's a bunch of good teams in there, so
at least you're losing to quality opponents as well. It's
(09:17):
not just a bunch of It's not just a bunch
of bums. You're losing to. I guess we'll lose to anybody.
We'll lose to bad teams, will lose to good teams. Okay,
I'm actually going back. Let let's see. We'll lose to
bad teams, will lose to mediocre teams. Will it don't
We'll lose to any kind of team that's out there.
We are very versatile in that area. But this is Look,
you have a team in Philadelphia that when things go bad, Okay,
(09:40):
we can depend on him beating Harden. These guys are
tried and true superstars. The Knicks are up by ten,
are up by fifteen. What are we gonna do? Are
we gonna keep feeding r J? Barrett? As good as
he is? R J. Barrett's not James Harden, right, he
That's the best part of the season for the Knicks
is that r J. Barrett's become a star. Right That's
the one thing I can say. He's become a terrific player.
But he's not one of those guys who she's gonna
(10:00):
depend on to bring you back to to keep a lead,
or bring you back. R J. Barrett is not nearly enough.
So I look at this next team and I go,
they have a lot of nice young players. Right, I've
said this for a while, they do. I really like
their roster. The players are are good young players. And
you can make one of those Von Hayes five for
one trade. You like that. You can make one of
those five for one trades in the offseason, and it
(10:21):
doesn't matter because you need to land a big star
to come play because you need an identity. And r
J Barrett, like I said, he's really good man. He's
become a star, but he's not a big superstar. You
need a big superstar, someone to say this is who
we are. And I'm sorry, but Tom Thibodeau and his
defense first approach clearly is not working as an identity.
What's the big selling point in New York? Hey, man,
(10:43):
come play for Tom Thibodeau. Why, Well, you'll hate him
and he's gonna make you play defense, but you might
win some games. Yeah, I think I'm gonna you know what,
let me call you back at the end of my
free agent tour and if I'm still undecided, yeah, I'll
get back to because you know that's a great selling point. Boy,
could go and play defense. And Timodeaux, who who has
a really stringent uh rotation and doesn't like to make change.
(11:06):
I might come back to you on that. I mean,
that's no selling point, all right. You need someone to
say this is who we are. And the Knicks you
don't know who they are, right, you don't know who
they are. They gave Randall too much money. But the
young players they have, they have enough to say, all right,
who really wants to get out from under their star player?
Who really needs to get out from under there, whether
it's Damian Lillard somebody else who needs to get out
(11:27):
from under there? And who can we bring in that
we can say this is now our number one guy,
this is this is the nixt because R. J. Barrett
be a great one a all right, even a great
one A and and and maybe even a little bit
more at some point. But now clearly you need that
next star. And Julius Randall isn't it. But you can
package Emmanuel quickly and maybe Cam Reddish or Obi Toppin
and Julius Randall, like I said, you could trade five
(11:48):
of those guys to get a big superstar player. I
don't care. That's what's going to work, and that's what
works in the NBA. That's what works and getting guys
to come play for you because if you had a
Damian Lillard, Hey, who are you? We're Damian Lillard and
r J Barrett, Okay, I want to come there and
play man Suddenly, then you're getting good big men coming
and showing up and you can figure out a rotation.
You can, and you can, you know, lose a couple
(12:10):
of good players now and fill in with players maybe
who are a little bit less caliber, but it doesn't
matter because you were lying on your stars for so much.
This is how you continue to bring guys in not
that well, come in because it's New York. It's all
come in and play with Damian Lillard. Come in and play.
That's what we'll do it. And that's the Knicks have
to do Again. I'm not saying it's doom and gloom
because this is the last year was a big step forward.
(12:32):
This year's a step back. I expect them to take
a big step forward in the off season, make a
big move for a big star, and that's what's gonna
turn them into big time East contenders. I I really,
I'm not that upset where there. I wish they were
winning more and they'd make the playoffs. It's not gonna happen.
So maybe they'll get lucky in the lottery. Something will happen.
The Pelicans will call and say, do you want Zion
give us a pick? Okay, great, and then suddenly, miraculously
(12:54):
Zience would is healed. Whatever, it's gonna wind up being there.
But they need to go do that. Don't be afraid
to make that move. And it's that that close for
the Knicks to get back to be him really really good. No,
I appreciate you there, But who's the coach doesn't matter.
It doesn't matter, not Tom Who do you wan? Who
do you want? Damian Lillard? I want Jason Kidd side
(13:14):
Dodamian Lillard said he's gonna die on that hill in Portland.
Didn't you read that? That's what he said. Yeah, yeah, okay,
let's just Kyrie. Irving still said he wanted to be
in Boston as long as they added not to compare
the two guys in their approach. By the way, let's
just wait and see how that goes, buddy, Well, let's
(13:34):
just let's just wait and see it. I'll stay here forever.
I mean, I'm done after this season. I'm sorry, I
have to go. I have to go Twitter, and how
about a fresca. Mike gets swollen down The Jason Smith
Show with My best Friend Mike Carmen. There go Mark,
he gave me the night. Two teams, different directions. Sixers
headed to the NBA Finals, nixt to the lottery. But
when they get him beat or you, honest, after this year,
(13:54):
things will be really. Be sure to catch live editions
of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at
ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
and the I Heart Radio app Hobo Here Hobo Hobo
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with My best
Friend Mike Harmon, really gotta look out. You don't get you.
(14:18):
I know, it just scares me, man, just just it's
just it's so scary when I hear that real credit
card questions require real people, someone who understands your issues
and works to resolve them with you. That's why Discover
offers helpful US based reps available seven Discover exceptionally common sense. Well,
there's somebody who needs my advice, Mike Harmen, I need
my pr advice to the stars and you're putting that
(14:40):
hat on today. Color is it? Is it? Is it
a full fedora? Is it a jaunty little hat? Is
in a trucker hat? What are we looking at? A
public relations hat? I think it would need to be.
It would need to be a jaunty hat where it's
probably a very bright color, because Okay, something different is
(15:01):
happening right now. Can't just be like a like a
you know, like like a black or a gray. No,
it's got to be a really bright color and it
because okay, well we're something different. He's here, is going
on because he's wearing that really bright colored hell okay, cool.
So that's why I be there. It was just a
day ago we got a letter from the agent for
Kyler Murray, Eric Burkhard, who I was want to call
(15:24):
him Kevin Burkhard. He announces he's an agent, Eric Burkhardt,
who was extolling the virtues of Kyler Murray, reminding everybody
an open letter of what he's accomplished as a Cardinals
quarterback and says it's on the Cardinals to want to
keep their great young quarterback who has gone to two
Pro Bowls and rookie of the year. Blah blah blah,
like the Cardinals don't know this. Uh. He has recently
also scrubbed the Cardinals from all of his social media
(15:47):
profiles because he wants a new contract. He feels, hey,
after three years, I should get that contract extension. And
today there was two big contract extensions with the Cardinals.
The general manager and head coach, Steve Kime and Cliff
Kingsbury both got extensions through the twenty twenty seven season.
(16:09):
Big time extensions. And if you don't think this is
a blank you Kyler move, you have not been paying attention.
After a week of I want my contract extended, I'm
scrubbing my Instagram. I'm having my agents say very publicly
that I want a contract extension. Do you really think
it's a coincidence that the next day the Cardinals announced
(16:32):
their GM and their head coach get contract extensions. When
Cliff Kingsbury clearly is as much under fire as as
Kyler Murray because the late season collapses. He's the head coach, man,
he's guy. The first nine ten weeks of the season,
things are great. Last six seven weeks, oh they struggle.
But this is the Cardinals saying, this is who we are.
We are Kime and we are Cliff Kingsbury and Kyler
(16:53):
you can be a part of it, but we're telling
you right now, these guys have more cash than you.
Because the you say you want a contract extension, we
just gave it to these two. This is a message.
This is them telling Kyler Murray you are not going
to win. I've said it. He's not gonna win. For
whatever reason. The Cardinals have chosen their team over cow
towing to their quarterback. Where he's going to dictate, I
(17:16):
want forty five million dollars a year and the Cardinals
aren't going to do it right, not gonna happen. He
will lose if he plays this game with them and lose.
Could be you can wind him getting traded to a
destination you don't want to go to. Uh, you can
be unhappy. They could pick up your option for the
fourth year and you're really not getting paid for a
little while longer. You are going to lose. So this
(17:38):
is why Kyler Murray needs my advice, because I would
sit him down and I would say, Kyler, look um,
radio hosts right TV did a lot of stuff. I've
been not doing this a long time now. Okay, you're
a couple of years out of college. Let me tell
you something. Um, do you see what's going on here?
You see that the Cardinals have clearly drawn a line
in the sand, and you have done really good things
early on in your career. But the Pro Bowl twice,
(17:58):
that's grape and Rookie of the Year that great. I
think you're a little overrated, but that's not part of
this conversation. That's that's me radio. Let me be me.
Pr I don't know, don't don don't get up and leave.
You just said I'm not gonna say you overrated again.
But here's the thing, is that you're not going to
win this war. And those are the opportunities, and the
outcomes for you is that you don't get paid, is
(18:19):
that you get traded to a team in someplace you
don't want to be. Those are your outcomes and it's
a really difficult next couple of years for you. So
what you need to do right now is shut up
about this, go out and ball in two, have your
breakthrough season, and then you will get paid Forget about
(18:39):
saying what, because what you've done up until now isn't enough. Right,
It's nice what you've done. You've done some good things,
but you've disappeared in big games and you've disappeared in
the playoffs. There's question about the leadership that you are
and whether it's it's whether it's real or not. Perception
is reality, and the perception is you are not a
great leader. You are already looking to blame tame other people. Hey,
(19:01):
I'm not the scapegoat for why we lost in the
playoff game of the Rams. Hey, you know what, quarterback
gets the credit and gets the blame. You gotta grow up.
It's what the NFL is all about. The quarterback is
always a person that gets the credit and it's always
a quarterbacks fault. So just suck it up and no,
that's got to be it. Don't look to the fleck blame.
That's not good. It doesn't reflect well on you as
a quarterback. Go out and ball this year. Have that
(19:21):
breakthrough season of thirty touchdown passes and ten on the
ground to thirty five touchdown passes and eight on the ground,
and then you'll get paid. But you have not done
enough to deserve that big contract. Other players and other
quarterbacks have Look how long it took Dak Prescott to
get paid, and Jerry Jones wanted to give him money.
He wanted to drive to his house and go, Dak,
(19:41):
just take his money, just take it. It still took
him a long time to get paid. Josh Allen had
to have a breakthrough season, Lamar Jackson had to have
a breakthrough season. And then you saw those guys get paid.
Lamar Jackson still has got paid, right, I mean he
got an m vcas. This is what it is. This
is what you have to do. You can't just say
what I've done so far is enough. Give me forty
(20:03):
five million dollars, because it's not enough. Because as far
as a quarterback goes, yeah, you put a lot of
touchdowns on the board two years ago, and now you've
regressed at the end of the seasons. Both times you've
been able to be controlled on the field. You've not
been able to get outside the pocket, not been able
to make the plays you normally do. And the Cardinals
have struggled. Teams have gotten the tape on you in
your offense for this season and they've been able to
(20:24):
shut you down. So you gotta have that breakthrough sea
and you haven't had it yet. You think you have,
but you haven't. All right, the list of players who
have thrown for thirty five touchdowns in a in a
season is a short one, I think, and I'm just
off the top of my head, I think fifteen people
are less in the history of the NFL have had
more than one thirty five touchdown season. I mean, I
(20:47):
I think about fifteen people have thrown for thirty five
touchdowns and more twice in their career. Right that that's
a brand And and about fifteen more I think have
got thirty five or more touchdowns once. I think that's
that's the list. You're not talking out a big list,
but those are the best players. Those are That's what
you have to look for. That you have to do
as a quarterback. And when you do that, then you
(21:07):
will completely get paid. You'll go to the next offseason,
you will get all kinds of money. So shut up,
now go ball for two and then you'll get your money. Well,
as we look at let's see how many how many
quarterbacks have been able to do this? I want to
through four, five, ten, Yeah, it's like fifteen, Dan Marino,
(21:27):
Steve Young, Kurt Warner, Matthew Stafford, uh and Afews. Along
with that, Brady character uh and Aaron Rodgers. But it's
it's curious, you know with with this you've got two
years left on the deal. And you know my my
general sentiment on this, um, why why are you gonna
quibble over a couple of million bucks If it costs
(21:48):
the price of poker goes up a little bit, that's
fine for Kyler Murray as you said, you know, the
last couple of years not finishing. Uh. It is worth
noting that he and Kingsbury do have the same agent,
so you know they're there. He's keenly aware of everything
going on in that building. But there's no reason to
to pay him now and extend him now, go have
(22:10):
another prove it or match your twenty season or the
first half of your one season. Go do that and
then we'll we'll pony up there. There's no reason to
change change the contract and re up him now. It's
it's a couple of million dollars. Still say, you know,
as much as Jerry Jones for all the talk of hey,
(22:31):
he drive to his house and and he loved him
and everything like a son like he used to talk
about Jason Garrett. See how it transferred to Dak Cree Scott.
But for all of that, I mean, what was the
what was the push If you weren't convinced he was
your guy right from your other business people and Stephen
and whoever else had to eventually sign off, then you
(22:54):
decided he wasn't your guy, right. That was Kirk Cousins
in Washington. If you franchise him a couple times because
you're not sure, fine, and then you either sign him
remove on the same thing here with Kyler Murray and
like the Instagram stuff is great fodder, but you know,
we're all grown ups in the room, I would hope,
and you recognize, you know, that's nothing more than you know,
(23:17):
showtime for lack of a better term. I do like
that Larry Fitzgerald's dad decided to call him out, saying
that he was selfish and and all of those things,
which is kind of curious because Larry Fitzgerald still hasn't
officially retired on the NFL, which maybe maybe Brady's gonna
come back with Larry Fitzgerald. Loving im back with Fitzgerald,
(23:38):
I mean they work on the podcast together. I'm gonna
take Davante Adams with me. Blank you Aaron Rodgers He's
coming with me wherever I go. That would be the best. Wait,
I thought he was coming with me. No, no, no,
I'm taking Davante Adams with me. We're going to We're
all going together. I mean, that should have been your
taking my ball. And I'm believe if if you were
Kyler Murray, that should have been your moment where you
(24:02):
got that bolt of recognition that said, this isn't gonna
go my way. When Larry Fitzgerald was the first person
to speak after Kyler Murray got rid of all his
reference to the Cardinals from Instagram, right the only pictures
were of him in the Pro Bowl, and when Larry
Fitzgerald said, I hope both sides figure it out. That's
a big clue as to um, dude, this is not hey,
(24:26):
we're all standing behind the quarterback and yeah, you gotta
get paid. You're great and you're being done wrong. This
is hope it can be worked out. Wow, Okay, all right,
um hmm, all right, maybe maybe maybe maybe we're playing
my hand here a little bit. All right, that's what's
gonna happen. That that's how that should have been the
first the first instance and the first clue to him
(24:49):
that doing this whole thing through the media and social media.
It's not gonna it's not gonna work. It's it's not
gonna do it. And if he, if he's smart, he
shuts up and he goes out and balls and then
he gets paid because because that's why you because I
understand how he wants to get paid. He has a
kind of a different opinion of where he is in
the quarterback hierarchy in the NFL than when he where
(25:10):
he really is. Like he thinks he's a top five guy.
In reality, he's kind of a little bit outside the
top ten. And and you know, but when you have
people telling you certain things, well, I've done this, I've
done this, I've done this. Yeah, I'm great, not so
much so that that's why you have to bargain from
a power of straw, from a position of strength. He
doesn't really have strength because the Cardinals have said, you
(25:31):
don't have the strength with us. You're not gonna hold
us hostage like we saw with Aaron Rodgers, and we
saw with Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks. These are
guys that have been great for years and one super Bowl.
You I don't know that they held anything hostage. It
just wasted everybody's time. Well there's that too, because they
couldn't go anywhere. Because that's the thing that keeps getting
lost in all of this. You can be a jackass
(25:52):
all you want if you are under contract, Eventually you
have to at least be calm enough to get on
a conference call or in the room with management to
figure out a plan. You can't walk the earth or
just keep planting stuff with your minions in the media
to to think it was suddenly gonna get done. Oh hey,
(26:13):
that guy reports that Aaron really wants to leave. You
know what, We should let him go because he doesn't
want to be here. Meanwhile, m v P season here
in Arizona. The bigger question is do you believe in
Kingsbury and Come that they're actually the guys to figure
out the answer. I think Kyler Murray's the least of
that trio that I have concerns about. Like I think
(26:35):
with Kyler Murray, you give me enough, tell you give
me DeAndre Hopkins back or another guy that's a at
least a number two wide receiver in that office, which
he did not have. Uh down the stretch UH in
that second half. Then then I think I've got a
puncher's chance with him, Whereas with Kingsbury and game planning
and come and roster development, I think those are the
(26:59):
guys when they get their extension. If I'm Kyler Murray,
I'm raising my head going, oh wait a minute, you're
gonna tell me I need to do this, this or this,
and these guys got extended. But that's the thing is
that it doesn't matter. They've decided that this is who
I and I get it. But I understand where he
might get more entrenched in assaulted nous. You know, if
(27:21):
he were now pr wise, I would advise, as would you.
All Right, you got two years on your deal. You've
got no leverage, go go ball out. Well, it's always
good to know where you stand, no matter what, and
you may not like it, but it's always good to
know where you stand. It's the best boss you can
ever have in the world. And I'm being completely serious
about this. The best boss you can ever have in
(27:42):
the world is the one who's gonna always tell you
the truth, right, not the one that's always gonna, you know,
say how great things are and and and and and
blow off the bad things and you don't want that.
You want someone right or wrong to tell you the truth,
because then you always know where you stand and you
know what you need to do to either staying the
job you have or you should leave to go get
another one. That's the best thing. You always want someone
(28:05):
to tell you the truth. And Kyler Murray has been
told the truth, right you. I wouldn't choose Cliff Kingsbury
over Kyler Mury, as much as I think Murray's a
little overrated. I'm not choosing cut Cliff Kingsbury, That's what
I mean. But the Cardinals decided we're choosing Cliff Kingsbury
over you. We're choosing Steve Come over you. Who's been
with you. Maybe it's just easier to get their deals done. Yeah, well,
and plus Time has been with the team since I
think they were in Chicago, since they were the car
(28:26):
so he's been there a while. But that's that's what
he knows now, So now you know. So now, okay,
if it's not if this power plays are gonna work, now,
go ball out, go ball out and do it and
then you'll get paid. Me here it's how it's gonna go. Oh,
I just think it's funny because we were actually talking
about Kingsbury at one point. Gun is he keeping his job?
And we certainly did that with time multiple times over
the last couple of years and now extended through Be
(28:50):
sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show
with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific.
Got the The podcast is called All Ball. We usually
talk all basketball all the time, but it's more about
the stories about what made these people love their sport
and all the interesting interactions along the way. We talked
(29:12):
to coaches, we talked to players, We tell you stories.
You download it, you listen to it. I think you
like it. Listen to All Ball with Doug Gotlieb on
the I Heart Radio app, Apple Podcast, orherever you get
your podcast Fox Sports Radio. That Jason Smith Show with
my bass friend Mike Harmon. Dry Humping guys is something
(29:34):
that I feel very strongly about. It's too early for
that one tie shirt too. We all know that NFL
prospects got some of the crazy questions of the combine
that you don't really understand why they get them. And
this year, the leader so far is what the Philadelphia
Eagles asked of quarterbacks Sam Howell out of North Carolina.
(29:57):
There's potentially it's gonna be the number one overall pick
in the draft than he had last season, which didn't
go very well. And now Sam Howell is potentially a
first round draft pick. Yeah, we watched a lot of
Sam Howell. He was in our window and not this
season Sam Sam Sam Sam Sam Sam Sam different Sam,
difference and and and both of them disappointing a more
prime time games for this one this year. But this
(30:20):
is what the Eagles asked of him during their meeting
at the Combine. Take a listen. Honestly, no question comes
to mind. But probably the craziest thing I had to
do is watched one meeting. I had to shoot like basketball,
I quite what was Eagles just I made like two
(30:45):
out of five, so probably not high on their board
right now. They asked him to shoot basketballs on a
mini hoop, like is it does that mean? Like it's
the one like you used to have in the back
of your door when you were a kids kind of
when I'm taking here, you would just shoot the nerf
ball up at it and try to make it well,
or you just would have it your own dunk. Contest,
let's call it, and then you slam it into the
(31:06):
door and your mom would get piste come sprinting down
the hallway saying things I can't say on the air.
And it's not even in safe harbor. Could I repeat
some of the stuff my mom would have to say?
Just shoot the ball exactly. This is where I know
my next great job would be, you know, pr advisor
(31:27):
to the stars. I would help Kyler Murray like you
did a few minutes ago, but coming up with ridiculous
things to ask NFL prospects to do with the combine.
I'd be absolutely great at that. I would say, Okay,
here's the what you do. I'm gonna give you my
lunch order. It's gonna be very specific. I want to
make sure that you make and get it right. That
would be one thing. We're gonna play Connect four. Well,
(31:49):
it's gonna tell you about how I think. No, I
just like playing Connect four and I'm gonna see if
you know the patterns and how to play all these
crazy things I can do. I'm gonna watch my favorite
TV show with you by Comedy and see if you
laugh in the same place as I laugh. What is
that gonna tell you about how I behave under pressure
and how my brain works. No, I just want to
see if you have a good taste in television. But
I think that I think there's something to be said
(32:10):
for the you know, mini basketball hoop? How do you
really how do you how do you approach it? Are
you trying to swish everything? Do you use if there
is a little bit of door exposed and that backboard?
Are you trying to bank? Like? What are we doing?
What's your philosophy here? Because it's almost like a carnival
game watching your brain work. Likewise, I mean maybe, as
(32:32):
we've referenced it a few times, you bring in the
wacky doctors game operations. See if they got a steady hand. Oh,
I play, I play operation with him, and I would say,
this is about your eye hand hand eye coordination, and
see if you know how you work under pressure? All
these crazy bs reasons I could give that this is
gonna tilt, why you're gonna be a good quarterback? Oh,
I'd sell the crap out of that. I would tell teams, hey, listen,
(32:54):
I have a system. Unlike Gil Brand, who doesn't know
I think I have a system to rank players. I
would say Hey, I have a system that's gonna tell
you all about the quarterback you want to draft, and
it's it's it's it's very hush hush, and excuse me. Me
Me and him in a room. We're gonna do all
these different things, and I'll come out with a with
a reason, and I'll write my recommendation on a sheet
of paper and I'll let you know whether I think
(33:15):
you should draft from or not. It would just be
the stupid games that are nothing but just a half
hour or forty five minutes of just killing time. But
I make it seem like it's a really big deal
and this is why they're gonna draft a guy or not.
I'd be a millionaire. Mike Carmen. I would sell that
thing up and down the coast Man, and it would work.
I'd be like that guy and bring it on that
sold the routine up and down the coast that that
(33:36):
Kirsten Dunce went for and they had to scrap it
for the finals. You have seen the movie a couple
of times. I would just sell the crap out of
my system and people would buy it just because they
would think it would be great. Oh, I'd sell that
it would be funny though, right, I mean player. You know,
I was really thinking I was gonna get a second
interview with UH with Team X. Why I had so
much fun with that Jason guy, Did you really mess
(33:59):
with the coach? No? But I played all these games
and I really thought they were assessing, you know, pretty
much every part of my personality, my hand I you know,
my my decision making process. I really, I really thought
i'd want him over. He had no clout. He said
you were awful to connect for and couldn't win once.
I'm sorry, we're not drafting you. We got another big
(34:23):
story out of the NFL coming up backs. This is
Fox
