dot com slash E. Well, we'll get to the Lakers
coming up in a minute, where they've been at free agency.
They signed forty seven more players over the weekend. But
this coming in now in the last few minutes from

(01:11):
NBA insider Chris Haynes, who says that the following teams
have reached out. Now reached out to the Blazers about
Damian Lillard. Hmm, okay, what do we say. Last hour
we talked about Damian Lobez the one guy that can
flip anything in free agency. He can take a team
from contender to title favorite. But are the Blazers really

(01:33):
gonna do him a favor? And said, oh, yeah, you
want to go to Miami, of course, we'll send you
that with We'll fly pat Riley out here to your
home and he can take you back at a private plan. Now, no,
we're gonna go wherever we feel like it. And if
it's a team off the beaten path, it's a team
off the beaten path. Here are the four teams who
have reached out about Lillard, the Clippers, the Timberwolves, the Pelicans,

(01:58):
and the Celtics. Those are your four teams that have
reached out about a potential Damian Lillard trade the Celtics.
The newest in this group is now Hey, potentially the
Celtics to go out try to get Damian Lillard. But uh,
you look at this, this list of teams, Mike, you
tell me where you think the Blazer would rather trade
him to the Clippers or the Celtics, or the Timberwolves

(02:19):
or the Pelicans. Where do you think they'd rather go?
Where do you think they'd rather trade him too? Yeah,
it's the Timberwolves or the Pelicans, hundred percent.

Speaker 4 (02:27):
Well sure, I mean, maybe you can go bring in
the distressed property that is Zion Williamson and it can
be began a rehabilitation to become the next guy you
love all til Morning Show. I don't know how much
we can do about the Zion Williamson except that he
doesn't play basketball right now. He's too busy in a

(02:48):
weird world where he's he's been a little too busy.
I mean, look, you could still work out at night.

Speaker 3 (02:55):
I think he's working out now. Maybe not at the gym,
but I think he's working as long as.

Speaker 4 (03:00):
He's getting some aerobic exercise in.

Speaker 3 (03:02):
It's okay he's getting aerobic exerss. I'm pretty sure he's
getting aerobic exercise in. Check. We're checking all the boxes here, Mike,
you're checking all the boxes for me. I don't think
he has time for basketball right now. I don't think
he does. I think he's got a lot, he's got
a lot going on. I don't think he has time
for it.

Speaker 4 (03:17):
Yeah, it's the curiosity with this, right is you know,
always the the care to for fake wojing. You know,
I'm seeing stuff in the timeline and and trying to
figure out where these teams come from. So we've got
it out there, we hang an asterisk on it as
we go, right, But you certainly you would love to

(03:37):
have a little bit of that come into play. I'm
trying to verify and ferret this out because it becomes
the fun and exciting world the NBA UH Central. You know,
one point two million followers, so you've got, you know,
some of that going on. But you know, trying to

(03:58):
realize a market play for Damian Lillard. I mean that
all these teams could be in play, right. Boston certainly
makes sense given the history with Jalen Brown. You did
get rid of Marcus Smart, so you can potentially want
to make a move there. But yeah, it's it's gonna
be a fun I mean, I hope it comes to

(04:18):
fruition fairly soon, because otherwise it becomes wanton speculation and
more people going into the the trade analyzers that we
joke about all the time, Jason, but it's it's potential
for chaos if he does get the to the place
he wants, right Miami's where we've already seen odds move,

(04:39):
but certainly reports that get linked to insiders and with
Haynes his history and we certainly know him well, trying
to link it back to him in his timeline if
that's the case. But in the interim, this is where
we get into the fun speculation of what would they
do to accommodate him.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
And the thing is, look, the Blazers are going to
get all the low ball offers, right of course we
know that. And and the Celtics. I'm sure if the
Celtics really want him, it's gonna be, well, we can
trade you brogged in and some picks and a couple
of guys that's gonna be we want Jalen Brown and
Jalen Brown. When he signs an extension, they can't do
it because then he can't be traded for for a year.

(05:22):
But you know that's gonna be the guy that they're
gonna want to change, uh, change addresses and say yeah,
because that's the Blazers aren't gonna say, oh, well, you know,
we don't want to take this package of young guys
and support play now they're they're starting over. They're starting
over with Scoot Anderson, and they're like, Okay, we want
somebody else that we can start over with. It's pretty
young that we can have a tandem. We liked having

(05:42):
Lillard and McCollum as long as we did. We didn't
get to the top of the mountain, but it was
pretty successful for us. So the team that offers them
as you know, a star ish a young star ish player,
they're the ones that that that take the deal. I
can't see the Celtics doing that. I mean the Celtics
really gonna say, Okay, now we're gonna Jalen Brown's gona
to go somewhere in the trade and and we're gonna
bring in Damian Lillard. I don't see that. The Pelicans

(06:05):
have good young players and they're looking to try to
figure out how they want to build. Same thing with
the Timberwolves. I don't know who the Clippers are gonna offer.
I mean, really, I mean the Clippers have have the
assets to make a Lillard trade work, or is it
gonna be, Hey, we got a bunch of first round
picks and and and a bunch of spare parts. So
I get that. It's great to see the Clippers and
Celtics in there. I just I just don't see where

(06:25):
they're gonna have an offer where the Blazers are gonna
say yes, because it's got to be it's got to
be a name player and it's got to be somewhat
young to say, Okay, we're gonna make this trade happen.
There's other teams that can do it, and you know,
the Blazers aren't gonna just do them a favor and say, yeah,
the Heat or the Sixers that no, no, no, we
need somebody that's really good. And it's gonna be the

(06:45):
the other teams. It's gonna be the next level of
teams that, hey, we want to be contenders. Not the
contenders that are gonna be vaulted over the top because
of Lillard, but it's gonna be the we wanna be
contenders and Lillard can bring us that. And there's a
lot of teams in that mix. And that's where the
t Wolves and the Pelicans are we want to be contenders?
Is that where really wants to go? I mean, that's
that's the best part of this, uh uh situation with

(07:08):
Damian Lillard trade is like, yeah, I'm gonna I'm gonna,
you know, X flex my muscle att bit and say, yeah,
here my preferred destinations. And I don't know the Blazers
are gonna say sure, wherever you want to go. This
could get really hairy, really fast. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (07:21):
I think when we we get down to it, and Haynes,
you know, in the initial reporting on the the story,
when you know the the first idea that Lillard did
finally requested the trade was that to facilitate anything was
gonna require a third team. We started to see Duncan
Robinson's name, we started to see Tyler Hero's name, uh.

(07:43):
And then you start figuring out, all right, what's where
are the other mechanics uh to make this work? And
what other teams would need to get involved, and and
and how do these get facilitated. The odds obviously changed
immediately for the heat liability, cancerns and whatever for sports books,
but the Blazers made it pretty clear in their statements

(08:06):
that as much as there's an accommodation, and they feel
pretty good with what they got in Scoot Henderson. And
you want to talk about a guy who's already talking
like he's the leader and ready to be a dominant
force for them, He's like, yep, all right, if he's
gonna go, I guess I'm the man now, which which look,
I love it. I love the bravado, but you're not
gonna give him away. Right eleven years and while you

(08:29):
want to be accommodating, you still don't want to go
into a full rebuild and tank mode. After all, you
did just give a giant Brinks truck worth of cash
to Jeremy Grant to stay.

Speaker 3 (08:40):
Yeah, they're gonna give it to him. We're not gonna
I mean, I know his agent caught. Hey, we're still
gonna do that deal, right, Just want to make sure,
you know, just just want to I know, you know,
we degreed and the paperwork is in and it's that
we're still doing this, right, You're still gonna keep him right,
So okay, it gonna work. So there. Look, that's the
latest with Damian Lillard, right that those are the four
teams we know to this point, Chris Haynes of Yahoo

(09:01):
has reported they have called about what it would take
to land Lillard in a deal. Now, meanwhile, you want
to go three thousand miles west where the Lakers are
and where they sit after where they're at it free agency,
and they're feeling pretty good, and I get it now,
you know there's a butt coming. But I want to
say most of it is really really good. I like

(09:22):
what the Lakers did. They kept the band together, they
went out and they got gave Vincent right. Vincent was
a really good player, especially in the playoffs for the
Miami Heat. He stepped up. Tyler Hero was out. He
was a guy that hit some threes, He had some
twenty point games. He was a sneaky good acquisition. I
like what the Lakers did. They spent money the way
they did. They have flexibility with what they have. You know,

(09:44):
Austin Reeves, you know, is now back for four years
and fifty six million, Hatchamora for the next three years.
They saw what they did from the trade deadline on
where they were one of the best teams in the NBA. Yeah,
let's keep this nucleus together for the next year plus
and see where we're at. We don't know where Lebron's
gonna be, but Ad is still gonna be somewhat in
his prime. So yeah, I like this. At the same time,

(10:08):
did the Lakers become Wow, now they're overwhelming. They caught
up to the Nuggets. They caught up to the best
team in the NBA that really sent them out pretty
easy in the playoffs, they didn't. And but it's not
a it's not a Lakers thing. This is kind of
an NBA wide thing where a lot of the teams
have decided we want to try to run it back,

(10:30):
like we're suddenly Sean McVeigh run it back. We want
to try to run it back. The Warriors decided we
want to get older and go get Draymond Green and
bring him back. Okay, that's fine. Other teams have made
small moves. You know, Kyrie Irving goes back to the
Dallas Mavericks and Kyle Kuzma could have flipped a team
from a contender to a favorite, but he stays with Washington.

(10:51):
Fred van Vliet the same thing, but he goes to Houston,
who's starting over. So there hasn't been a lot of
big moves where hey suddenly you got to watch out
for this team way more than did a year ago.
So it's kind of a it's not a staying at zero.
I mean, the Lakers moved the needle a little bit,
and I like what they did, And there's a couple
of other teams I can say I like what they

(11:12):
did too. Look, I like what the Knicks did getting
the Vincenzo because they need a guy that can shoot
eat a guy that getdit threes. That was what they
were missing in their series against the Heat. But at
the same time, nobody's gone crazy. But with nobody going crazy,
does that mean you've done really well? So it's one
of those weird, weird situations now for the Lakers where it's, yeah,
we improved, we didn't become title contenders, but nobody else

(11:34):
kind of has done that yet and maybe it works
for us, and maybe there's one more move. So so far,
I gotta say, I like what they did, but is
it enough? It probably isn't. Well.

Speaker 4 (11:44):
I mean a lot of it, it all pretends, you know,
and is all dependent upon I should say, all dependent
about the health of Davis and James. Do you get
the same run, did you build a roster that's going
to allow them to manage any injuries, take time off
as needed during the regular season, and reduce some of
those stressful minutes. If you did that and you feel

(12:05):
comfortable there, And we look around the Western Conference, a
lot of moves, a lot of guys re signing where
they began, and you know, the run it back chance
begin and here in LA when you bring back Russell,
when you bring back Reeves, Hotchamurah, all the cast offs
from the twenty nineteen draft, right, Hatchamura sticks around, You

(12:28):
bring in Cam Reddish Jackson Hayes comes over. He's moderately intriguing,
not that he's gonna fill box scores, but plays defense
and can rebound, and it gives you another big to
maybe again limit those minutes that you have to run.
Davis out there in mid December and January games, all
of that to keep yourself as healthy as you can.

(12:50):
Because you know, we've talked about it a lot in
our show here on Fox Sports Radio, Jason, it's the
can we get to mid April with as many of
our guys ready to go to play meaningful minutes and
depth being such a big deal, particularly at the BIGS.
So for some of the would be contenders, like, did
you go and four to fy the front line because

(13:11):
you got to go have people that can at least
body up on Jokic. You don't do that, then you
know you're you're playing a fool's game with the process.
And who's to say their season goes perfectly as well? Right,
they got through relatively unscathed in terms of times, time
lost and having your core available. But for the Lakers, yeah,
there's gotta be some optimism, right the guys you said, hey,

(13:34):
we've got to do this to move forward. I e.
Bring back Austin Reeves fan favorite and Hatchamurrow who gave
you some big games after coming over from Washington. You
did those and then the rest of it additive. You
gotta feel pretty good where you're at. Does it put
it you over the top. No, But it's only as
far as twenty three takes anyway, or sixties days?

Speaker 3 (13:59):
Twitter? And how about a Fresca Mike get Swollen Dome,
Jason Smith, Mike Harmon in for Dan and the dan
Nets today. Now it's not like and it's not like
they can be done because now I feel like the
good news for free agency is that Okay, we've seen
just about everybody's sign. Waiting for Lillard to be traded.
We're waiting for James Harden to go somewhere. But all
the other big players or have been have been moved around,

(14:19):
and now you're gonna start seeing poker because now is
when the trades are gonna happen. You know, usually you
get the trades in and around free agency, you get
signed and trade deals. Hey, we're gonna want to keep
an asset here. We wanted this, but it's been different
this year's you've seen you've seen everybody go and now
teams go. So many people and so many teams have
kind of stayed the same and improved a tiny bit.

(14:40):
You're gonna see a couple of teams say, okay, La
dust is settled. Who's really been bold? Nobody, Let's be bold.
We can get better. We can maybe become a team
that goes from a middle of the pack to a
title contender. And you're gonna see a couple of big
trades happen. There's still big time players that teams want
to move on from with the money situation they have,

(15:01):
but now is when you're gonna see it. Because now,
as what Okay, we we take a few minutes, we
see how the landscape is. Nobody really was aggressive. If
we do it, there's not gonna be many teams that
make these bull moves to try to get better. We
can maybe leap frog a bunch of teams. So we
try to do it. So I see that happening now,
and and the Lakers and the Knicks and some of
those big teams, and the Heat clearly waiting for Lillard.

(15:23):
They're the teams that are gonna make those big, bold
moves to try to go get another big star players.

Speaker 4 (15:27):
Well yeah, I mean the Knicks are gonna bring in
James Harden. Stop and there goes Julius Randalls.

Speaker 3 (15:32):
All right, I said big star player. I didn't say,
just say a guy that nobody wants that I don't want. No, No,
I said big star.

Speaker 4 (15:40):
It would be a trade involving a third team All
NBA guy, big star player and Julius Randall. And you know,
I had that that momentary brain freeze where you have
the sort enough bat basketball cards where you know Lebron
is in a twenty three that you want to put
him back. You know, when he wanted to be MJ
and then realized he couldn't, so he switched to six.

(17:48):
Agency so far, I'm gonna tell you this because it's
the thirty eighth anniversary today of Back to the Future
thirty eight years thirty eight years. Starting to see it
in my timeline again as I can see it, Yeah,
I mean, I may look at too many Back to
the Future posts, and I can't see when Damian Lillard
gets traded, but I will tell you this all right

(18:08):
in the block here's a big hot take for you.
What a big hot take on before the fourth of July.

Speaker 4 (18:12):
Ye yeah, let's go.

Speaker 3 (18:14):
In the blockbuster era of movies. And this is since Jaws, right,
because that's when movies changed forever, the blockbuster. In the
summer of seventy five, Jaws came out, and then we
had Star Wars, and that's when movies change, right. We
had the summer blockbuster in that era, and then we
have what what Hollywood had before it. So it's kind
of like Hollywood has been and movies have been divided

(18:36):
up into two eras like pre nineteen seventy five and
post nineteen seventy five post nineteen seventy five. All right,
so you go, I'm going back now forty seven years, right,
forty seven forty eight forty eight years, forty eight years.
Back to the Future is the best movie that's been
made in that time, Come on, best. But because the

(18:56):
movie has everything on the acting is great, Frostburg, I'm
telling you, man it.

Speaker 4 (19:03):
Years ago Terminator two came out.

Speaker 3 (19:05):
Acting tea. It's I liked T too had a good song,
and I like T two. But Back to the Future
had acting, romance, drama, comedy, music, thrills, adventure. The screenplay
is taught at USC is what's the perfect screenplay in
in in cinema?

Speaker 4 (19:22):
That's just like their opinion Man and Scott Abbs.

Speaker 3 (19:25):
This movie has absolutely everything. And I don't care how
many times I've seen it. I've seen it probably two
hundred times by now. The clock tower scene at the
end still I know how it ends, and it's still
so incredibly nerve racking that oh he's up there, then
it catches on his pants. I mean, I don't know
that there's a movie that's had more than Back to
the Future. It made the best movie made since nineteen

(19:47):
seventy five.

Speaker 4 (19:48):
You really just ruined that movie. For people who haven't
seen it, maybe it's going to be part of their
holiday holiday holiday.

Speaker 3 (19:54):
You know, I want to sail it away till the
thirty eighth anniversary. Then I want to watch it.

Speaker 4 (19:58):
Well, they get inspired because it's actually one of those
tweets that shows up on their timeline. Today in an
age of sparse information, it's kind of like the scarcity.
Chris and I were just talking about the you know,
the Lord of the Rings offering that just came out
and they were chasing the one of one ring card.
Same thing with tweets. Now, if I'm not getting all

(20:19):
of them, then the ones that come through suddenly have
that much more gravitas. So if you are able to
retweet out, you know, your love of Back to the Future,
maybe you inspire some kid today to go and give
that his first viewing. How about that.

Speaker 3 (20:33):
I'm gonna go watch it. But there's a part where
something gets caught on the guy's pants and it's gonna
ruin the movie. For me, it's not gonna ruin the movie.

Speaker 4 (20:39):
It's not gonna ruin the movie.

Speaker 3 (20:41):
I don't know. It's not all I said. Because if
you've seen the part, but you're calling it the perfect movie,
it might be.

Speaker 4 (20:49):
I'm telling you about Jaws the US s Indianapolis speech.

Speaker 3 (20:53):
Yeah, Jaws was good. Was good.

Speaker 4 (20:55):
There's lots of you know about the perfect movie.

Speaker 3 (20:58):
There's lots of really good. Uck. As I watch movies,
when I turn the mets off, Earle, when they stink,
so the ball goes through Buckner's legs. It was a movie.
It's been a long time since eighty six, but no
other movie has had all of those things, has had
all of those things that I just outlined. Some great
movies have some of them, but they don't have all
of them. And that movie had everything, absolutely everything you

(21:21):
want in a movie. Back to the Future has look at.

Speaker 4 (21:24):
You, this brought to you by I mean, like I
enjoyed the Michael J. Fox movie. Still that's out there,
and and for consumption about his life and and his
day to day as much as anybody, I mean, and
that that'll get you reaching into the heartstrings. I don't
know that, you know, Back to the Future is not
one that I stop on.

Speaker 3 (21:44):
Oh well, the problem it is the show hey Otani
of movies.

Speaker 4 (21:48):
Min whoa, whoa? I mean, you want to talk Shawshank.
You can get me with shaw Shank does everything Tommy,
would you testify to that?

Speaker 3 (21:57):
Yeah, shaw Shank is great. That's but how there's there's
you know, there's no romance. There's not a lot of comedy.
There's not a lot of music. I mean all romance.

Speaker 4 (22:07):
The music doesn't have to be between people. You get
the one about the glory of what could be.

Speaker 3 (22:14):
Sure, sure, but it doesn't. It doesn't check all the
boxes that Back of the Future does. That checks every
single box.

Speaker 4 (22:21):
Of what you would want Spider Man.

Speaker 3 (22:23):
It's got action, spider adventure, defoe Spider Man, Spider Man,
Spider Man.

Speaker 4 (22:31):
When you hit Ben, I mean, there's no greater love
than that man had for for Peter Parker.

Speaker 3 (22:37):
And what did Peter Parker do? He cut him loose
and said, ah, fine, I'm not gonna stop this guy,
and he's gonna go and sorry, I will spoil Spider Man.

Speaker 4 (22:44):
I'm not saying that love always ends the way you
wanted to bell.

Speaker 3 (22:49):
Like Dracula, love never dies.

Speaker 4 (22:51):
That's right.

Speaker 3 (22:52):
But that was a pretty good movie too.

Speaker 4 (22:53):
Yeah, but you can't go Gary Oldman.

Speaker 3 (22:57):
You can't make Willem Dafoe and Uncle Ben like the
top of your argument for Spider What about Spider About.

Speaker 4 (23:05):
At the top of the argument they were like the
sides come on and all works. What about the nineteen
eighty nine classic Batman. He had Prince, You had a
love story, you had a great villain, you had a
world under siege.

Speaker 3 (23:21):
Okay, Batman was good. I like Batman too. Batman's not
back to the.

Speaker 4 (23:26):
F I gave you the perfect opportunity to grab the
ball and go down. A whole run of Stephen Sigall
movie starting with Under Siege, What about You Failed?

Speaker 3 (23:35):
What about Mark for Death? What about Out for Justine?

Speaker 1 (23:37):
Anybody see Richie?

Speaker 4 (23:39):
You think you're above the law?

Speaker 3 (23:41):
You ain't.

Speaker 4 (23:42):
I mean you got the Godfather, Godfather too, not a lot.

Speaker 3 (23:46):
Of comedy, Hockey, a lot of comedy, not a lot
of comedy, not a lot of comedy, not a lot
of all all of these things. It's it's the movie
that has all of those things in it. It's got
everything in it. No other movie packs as much as
it's you. You and I love sandwiches, right, and we
love lots of stuff on top of our sandwiches. No
other movie is that sandwich. That's a big said everything

(24:06):
you want on there. Now, I want a sandwich. It's
seven thirty in the morning. I want to I want
a big sandwich. Now. No other movie has that big sandwich.

Speaker 4 (24:13):
Can make that happen even though it's seven thirty in
the morning. There's someone pulp Fiction Jay.

Speaker 3 (24:19):
Pulp fiction was great. Pulp fiction is up on the
list too. Pulp fiction was fantastic. Still not back to the.

Speaker 2 (24:25):
Future Apocalypse Now has a lot of comedy, yes.

Speaker 3 (24:29):
Tons of Yeah, apocalypse. Now you guys are just naming movies.

Speaker 4 (24:33):
Now here's a metal Jacket. We just commemorated the anniversary
the other day.

Speaker 3 (24:37):
Okay, full Metal Jacket. I'll give you this. The first
half of that movie may be the best movie I've
ever seen. And then bet then it becomes a pretty
good Then it's a pretty good movie. But first half
a full Metal Jacket, that may be the best movie
I've ever seen. About unbelievable. What did you say? Frosburg Club?
Fight club? Don't talk about fight Club. Don't talk about

(24:57):
you can't do it. You can't do it.

Speaker 4 (24:59):
I mean, I like as much as everybody but.

Speaker 3 (25:05):
Around I like the guy who played meat Loaf as
much as anybody else. But still, so we're sitting here
now on the day before the fourth of July, and
we're seeing what's happened so far in Free Agency and
what is yet to come. And we spend a lot
of time so far talking about what we have seen,
but what is yet? What? What what is yet to come?
But what we have seen so far, some of the

(25:27):
stuff is just really head scratching, you know, I mean,
most of the teams. You know, they've decided we want
to kind of stand pat and we think we can
improve from within and we can wind up being a
title contender that way. And some teams I go, I
I just don't see it. And the two biggest things
that I keep I keep saying I don't understand what
teams are doing have to be the Warriors and the Mavericks.

(25:50):
All right now, the Warriors bringing back Draymond Green for
four years and one hundred million dollars. I feel like
the rest of the NBA is breathing a sigh of
relief right now because the Warriors have decided, Oh, we
just want to get older and that's how we're gonna
win the title. But we're gonna bring in Chris Paul,
who's thirty eight, and how many minutes a game is
he gonna play? And it sounds great that Chris Paul's

(26:10):
the season point guard that he is. He's gonna get
him into their sets and they're gonna play, Well, how long
is that gonna go for when they need to win games?
Is Chris Paul really gonna have anything left? As you've
seen in the playoffs the last couple of years, Chris
Paul gets less and less effective as the time goes on. Right,
he hit his peak game two of the NBA Finals
three years ago. Since then, it's been, oh, Chris Paul's

(26:32):
and there's a reason why the Sun's moved on from him.
But the Warriors Bob Myers left, and it's like they decided,
we're gonna all be crazy now and we're gonna go
bring in Chris Paul and sign Draymond Green, who isn't
nearly the player that he was. A guy that still
has value, don't get me wrong, probably has greater value
to a different team that feels like, maybe we're a

(26:53):
Draymond a way. We need his attitude and his defensive
prowsing to show the way to some of the other guys,
kind of like what Memphis is doing with with Derrick
Rose and Marcus Martin John Morant. But we've seen that
the Warriors aren't close to an NBA title. They got
they got worked by the Lakers in the second round
last year, and they're an old team. And the solution

(27:13):
is we're gonna get older and that's how we're gonna win. No,
no one gets older in the NBA and wins a title.
And it's like the Warriors decided and Mike Dunleavy Junior
taking over as GMS like, oh, can I really break
this group up? Even though you have to. You have
to let Draymond go and get something for him. You
gotta let Clay go and get something for him because
he's not the same guy either. And you have to

(27:34):
reload on the fly around Steph Curry, which shouldn't be
too difficult. He's a superstar. He's still playing at a
high level that other players want to come play with,
so you could do that, But instead they may as
well have stood outside the arena and said, Hey, fans,
here's what we're doing. We're gonna make sure these guys
stay around. We know you like watching them all on TV.

(27:55):
You want them all to retire as Golden State Warriors,
be all one franchise players. We're gonna keep selling their jersey.
You're gonna keep coming to the games. We're gonna win
some games in the regular season. It's gonna be awesome.
I mean, we're not gonna win away from home because
we're terrible on the road, but the home games you
come to are gonna be great, and it's gonna be
a lot of fun for the next three years, and
it'll be in a crazy world. We'll be able to
slow down. You'll be able to appreciate maybe the last

(28:18):
ten years. I go back to what life was like
in twenty fifteen or twenty fourteen. Mean, that's kind of
what the Warriors are doing. And I don't get it.
I don't get Hey, we got to keep everybody together,
rather than we've seen that this group has hit its
peak and we're not getting better and we need to
find a way to do it. But instead, instead, no,
we're very happy being where we're at. I mean, the
rest of the league is saying, Okay, good. I don't

(28:40):
have to worry about Stephan the Warriors going crazy anymore
because they're not gonna go out to the second round
again at best. If to even get into the second round, well, I.

Speaker 4 (28:47):
Wonder if they're one, if they're done. Look, you reference
one of the great ad campaigns that has ever been
run by a team, complete with guys shaking moroccas and
everything in the commercials nineteen ninety nine two thousand Golden
State Warriors led by Anton Jamison Larry Hughes, the end

(29:08):
of Terry Cummings career, et cetera. It was called quote
a great time out Warriors basketball. It's a great time
out and you're dancing around on the court and everything else.
So trying to channel a little bit of that. I
would wonder, you know, internally, what's the estimation of the
ceilings for Moses Moody and Jonathan Kaminga all right? Because

(29:31):
Kamen has been rumored in trade pursuits from other teams
and was entering free agency, in the draft and everything else.
Still there, do they think he's got a high ceiling?
Is that where you're you're sticking some of the bonus
to grow and to complement the veterans that internally, while

(29:53):
you had a bunch of misfires, those two guys still
have value and can push forward with that vet and
laid in front. Because on paper, all right, if you
can spell guys the minutes, it'll be interesting to watch.
Are they good enough to get over?

Speaker 3 (30:08):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (30:08):
We keep talking about how everybody in the West is flawed.
Why can't a couple of breaks go your way?

Speaker 3 (30:16):
Yeah, but if if you're keeping the same team and
you were if you were one step, I get the
Lakers more than I get the Warriors saying, hey, let's
bring everybody back. We were much better after the deadline,
and that was only a few weeks. The Warriors like, hey,
we just got bounced in the second round. We got
blown out in some of those games, and our big
move is gonna be to bring in Chris Paul. I mean, really,

(30:36):
that's that's what you're gonna do. That's you're gonna do,
because you still said goodbye to a guy who, in
his prime Jordan Poole, or when he's given a lot
to when he's given a lot of responsibility, scores twenty
four a game.

Speaker 4 (30:46):
No, I get that talent, but he was a scorer
and a detriment in other parts of the game, which
they were very quick to point out after they'd paid
him his huge deal and then traded him away. By
the way, there were just parts of his game not
to mention. Whatever the locker room was going on, and
and the fact that it was allowed to fester for
a full season, trying to run it back is a
bit confusing. Seems like maybe at the trade deadline you

(31:09):
might have found a suitor form then, but now you
move on for this next year and you don't have
that dynamic of Jordan Poole and whoever was on his
side and the Draymond Green and whoever's on their sides. Man,
you know you need a little bit of solidarity when
it comes down to it. Now, we're just gonna run

(31:29):
quotes from Tarantino movies through the rest of the show.
But it's that that idea for the Warriors. Do I
think it puts them over? No? Remember, I wanted Porzengis,
your former Nick would be superstar, the Lafe and Dirk
to show up Stead he's a Boston Celtics big man today.

(31:50):
Two years, sixty million dollars. But that's the only question
I have. Is there another shoe to drop where you're
packaging the young guys or internally you decided there enough
to push you a little bit forward, because remember they
did have leads in a couple of those games against
the Lakers that they gave up too. So trying to
figure out how far off you truly are from competing

(32:13):
against some of these squads, because everybody's flawed, right, They're
all flawed. It's just a matter of you know, who
gets through and can you be playing good basketball? The
concern and you addressed it in your comments is the
Klay Thompson elephant in the room in terms of how
much of the former Klay Thompson can you bank on
him being? And for me, the bigger issue isn't the

(32:36):
rest of his game, it's his shot was off and
if he can't shoot, what's Klay Thompson?

Speaker 3 (32:42):
Even though even though they did that, I can, I
can get the Warriors maybe a little bit more than
what the Mavericks did in bringing pack Kyrie for three
years the one hundred and twenty six million? Are you
kidding me?

Speaker 1 (32:56):
Like?

Speaker 3 (32:56):
That's where I go. Mark Cuban sometimes is just Jerry Jones,
and sometimes he makes even less sense, like Kyrie shows up.
They're terrible, right, they lose standing in the Western Conference. No, No,
we're gonna give you three years on hundred twenty six
million dollars. I mean, I don't I don't understand where
the Mavericks say, yes, this is our missing piece. You
don't know anything about Kyrie as far as his dedication

(33:20):
to the game. How long it's gonna be until he
gets upset with how things are going in Dallas. Whatever
it is. Yet we're gonna give this guy this kind
of money after he played sixteen games for us and
we were bad. I mean, I don't I don't follow
any of that logic. The only thing that makes sense
is if they knew we can't get somebody to come
play with Luca right like we for whatever reason because

(33:42):
Luca Luca's reputation, is he gonna be able to get
star players to come play alongside him? Can they build
a lung? And Kyrie was the one guy saying, Hey,
nobody else is gonna pay me, so I'll stay if
you pay me and I'll stay and play with Luca.
You're gonna give me a lot of money. And they said, okay,
that's the only thing that makes it if the Mavericks
know we just can't get anybody to come play with

(34:03):
him because with their people are unsure. Can we play
alongside him and get along? Porzingis came in and what happened?
They didn't get along and Porzingis got shipped out and
now he's in Boston trying to start his career again.
Is that the case? Is he too much of a
coach killer? Is there behind the scenes stuff people don't like.
That's the only thing that makes sense because signing Kyrie

(34:23):
Irving I just don't get all right, I mean, I
just don't get.

Speaker 4 (34:26):
Well the quick rebuttal and maybe justification, one of which
I would say, some folks can't get over the idea
of sunk costs because remember they gave up two players
in draft picks, so maybe it's still a save face
the other you know, the Lakers essentially ran it back.
They're bringing back a couple other guys. Maybe the Mavericks
looked around after elimination and what happened in the playoffs,

(34:48):
including said Lakers, and said, well, a full season with Kyrie,
we can make this happen. I think it's more of
the sunk costs thing. But I do like your theory
that Luca is a guy nobody wants to play with,
because that I mean, you want to talk about hot
takes and bust it on a flamethrown, Let's go on
a holiday weekend.

the latest on his situation coming up in about ten minutes.
Is now some potential some more potential destinations are emerging
for Lillard, the guy who the one guy who can
flip free agency and take a team from contender into

(37:10):
a title favorite. But the guys, Mike that I'm really
stunned at.

Speaker 4 (37:14):
Right.

Speaker 3 (37:14):
A lot of free agency has been boy teams staying
the same. But the two biggest free agents so far.
If if you had all the list of free agents,
if you could say you can have any two guys
on this list you want for your team, the two
guys I would pick would be Kyle Kuzman and Fred
Van Vliet, And I really don't get their decisions in

(37:35):
free agency. Kuzma is someone who proved himself to be
the prize basically in free agency this year, right, what
he has done. He flashed a bit with the Lakers
and they trade him to Washington. He's become a really
well rounded offensive player and defensively is pretty good. He
can guard wings. Now he is the sought after guy.

(37:57):
And he goes back to Washington. I mean, the team
that's saying we are dumping everybody and starting over. Bye
Bye Bradley Beal, By Bye Christops Porzingis. He could have
got paid from anywhere. He could have got paid from
from a from a title contender, he could have got
But I'm gonna go back to Washington. I mean, I mean,
I know that players like to be in certain situations. Hey,

(38:20):
I feel comfortable here. I feel this. But all you're
gonna do is go get drubbed for the next three years.
You're gonna go when you're gonna get creamed by a
bunch of other teams in the Eastern Conference who are better.
And while I always say not a lot of players,
not enough players in the NBA really want to win
as much as they should. Because look, I get the lifestyle.

(38:41):
I get playing and and and and doing things. They
do off the court and making money. I get that
there's something for a for a guy that says, yeah,
I'm okay with the next three years. I'm getting paid
and I'm just gonna lose, you know, for the next
three years. I I don't get that Kyle Kuzma could
have gone anywhere and I'm going back to Washington. I
don't get it.

Speaker 4 (38:58):
Well, I think there's a couple of things. One, there's
always the I get to be the guy kind of
mentality as opposed to you, I'm part of whatever. Because
even last year, I had a fantastic year from a
national perspective, and I'm sure locally he was the third,
third guy. Now now he's number one. The curiosity of
Jordan Poole is there, But it's also a deal.

Speaker 3 (39:21):
Guys, a guy that this other team didn't want. No,
by the way, you're coming back and you gotta play
with Jordan Pool the next three years.

Speaker 4 (39:26):
Well, maybe you don't have the same issue. Maybe Jordan
Poole learns something. Maybe he's not gonna do something that
makes him punishable. Not that I justify or or believe
that in any way, shape or form, it should have
come to that. No, and if you had a bunch
of leaders in the locker room, shouldn't they have been
able to quell it? How about that, Steve.

Speaker 3 (39:44):
Kerr Riddle me that.

Speaker 4 (39:46):
But the Steph Curry you want to stop golfing and
answer that one for me too, That maybe you could
have healed a rift and gotten guys together, but in
the end, you know, been the peacemaker. See I got
more John Cena repferences. But it's the idea for Kuzma
is he and Pool. They'll put up their points, they'll

(40:08):
be a fun brand of basketball, and maybe they're the
key towards a rebuild and relaunch. But even if that
doesn't work, what's he making twenty five a year? Twenty six?
You want to round up? Guess what trade deadline? We
got a guy that can shoot, a guy who's shown
he can play in some big situations. Who wants him?

(40:29):
I don't think he's there for the duration of the
four years. I think he gets spun off.

Speaker 3 (40:33):
I hope not for his sake. I mean much gonna
lose for a long time. And with Van Vliet, it's
this is another guy who would have been the missing
piece too many title contenders. Whether it's the Lakers or
the Knicks or somebody else. He could have gone anywhere,
but I'm going to Houston, and look, it kind of
has that feel. The Van Vliet to Rockets feel kind

(40:56):
of like the Jalen Brunson Knicks feel from a year ago,
where was kind of a fadea complete Look, Brunson's gonna
join the Knicks kind of form the Hey Van Vliet's
gonna be a rocket. He's gonna go play with Emao
Udoka and they're gonna try to build something there. But
I mean, you've been in the league a while, right
you would have got paid again, a guy who would
have got paid anywhere, and you're gonna go to Houston.

(41:17):
Who I get that they're trying to go after it
and they want to jump back into contention right away,
But you're coming from the bottom of the league and
for the next three years, how much winning are you
really gonna do? Right? So I I really these to
these two guys that could have gone anywhere that could
have been difference makers. The fact that they decide to
go to basic you know, NBA outposts that aren't gonna

(41:37):
win soon. I mean, I especially when you can get
paid anywhere, you go. It's one thing if boy I
wasn't gonna get money from a lot of these teams,
but this team is so desperate they're gonna pay me. No.
Van Vliet and Kyle Kuzma could have got, you know,
one hundred million dollars from anybody. You know, there's lots
of teams that would have moved stuff around to go
get them had they been able to just sit out
and negotiate with them for a bit.

Speaker 4 (41:58):
Yeah, I think when Van Vleet's interesting, right, he's another
one one of those players who are like, all right,
was his key value where he was or is there
more to be unlocked in this case, I think it's
that veteran leadership playing in big minutes. A lot of
the stuff that we talk about in you know, when
you had Brunson and the attitude that he gave to

(42:20):
your knicks last year, and clearly they're leaning into that
roster wise and bringing in guys who have familiarity with him.
Now you look at Houston, pretty good young core, and
you bring in Van Vliet, and then you go over
the top and you bring in Dylan Brooks, who at
times was a really good player. I think folks forget
that and wanted to exile him just because of stuff

(42:44):
with Lebron. Pretty good player, just acted out of sorts
and got a little away from things. Maybe in Houston
you go back to basics. The guy I wanted I
mentioned him before was Porzingis. I thought he was everything
the Warriors needed. But he's a celt and we'll keep
singing the song for him.

Speaker 3 (43:02):
There, Twitter, and how about a fresca Mike gets swollen
dome Jason Smith, Mike Harmon in for Dan Patrick today. Now,
speaking of Porzingis, the Celtics pretty interesting. They've jumped into
the fray. Now for Damian Lillard. Coming up next, we
get into what is next for Dame Is. Some potential
landing spots are starting to reveal themselves, not just the heat.
