Speaker 1 (00:05):
Greetings, Welcome in Side Hour too the Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Harmon.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Well dressed Hobo.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
Every goal starts with an assist on and off the field.
That's why Haley On and US Soccer are launching for
the Assist, a celebration of everyday acts of support that
helped people achieve their goals with iconic brands like Sensiedine, Tubs, Advill,
and Centrum. To learn more, go to haley Onassist dot com.
That's Haley Onassist dot Com, h A L e O
and Assist dot com. Well, this kind of feels like

(00:36):
late March right now, because you know it's the night
before the Final four, the NBA e Cup Final Four
Apartment Get Ready, the doubleheader, Nick's Magic Spurs, Thunder, Get ready?

Speaker 3 (00:51):
Did you one?

Speaker 4 (00:52):
We might get Wendy back, But did you get your
one Iota tickets? Did you get your seat filler seats
that we were talking about yesterday you were thinking of
making the drive to go?

Speaker 1 (01:02):
Yeah, Like that's like okay, so what what What Harmon's
talking about real quick is that you know at the
Oscars of the Emmys they have seat fillers where.

Speaker 4 (01:10):
The Nightly Talk shows, right, Kimmel and whatever like those
kind of things.

Speaker 1 (01:14):
Yeah, but you know about seed fillers because they move around.
Like if you know, if if like praym Cruse, if
Tom Cruise hask enough to go to the bathroom, someone
comes and sits in his seat till he comes back,
he goes back, then he goes and sits where Hugh
Jackman sits, and then Hugh Jackman. Then that person goes
and sits with Meryl Streep sits. Right, So they have
set fillers. There's seed fillers for the NBA E Cup
semi finals like that, Like you know, look, this weekend

(01:36):
is Zoe's birthday or you know, I would really think
about saying, hey man, I just go and be a
seat like that would be amazing. I get to have
great seats to watch the Nicks and the magic the
seat exactly thunder too, like and and and you they
you don't have to pay for those tickets, right, like
you're just that's right, here's a seat filler. I don't
have to pay to do that. To have the honor
of seat filling, I get to go and do that

(01:56):
for free.

Speaker 4 (01:57):
Right, Yeah, that's it, because you know this schedule's not
done in advance, right, because it is a tournament that
you don't have the same ability like they sell tickets,
but you don't sell out an arena, right because you
know the ability of folks to say, hey, we made
the final four, let's go in this game in December.
Ain't happening so one iota. They do it for a

(02:18):
lot of the talk shows here in Los Angeles, where
it's free, it's you know, first come, first serve. They do,
you know, overfill in the event that you know, someone
decides not to show up. There are some standing room
only kind of things that come into play as well,
and last minute additions. But yeah, in this case, there
was at least the opportunity to sign up and get

(02:41):
yourself from see some free seats, to go see some
NBA action.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
You know, when we first moved to LA I could
tell this story now because it show's out in there anymore.
When we first moved to LA, we were no. We
came out for a visit to see if we wanted
to move out here. Right, My wife and I were
both worked at ESPN and Connecticut, and we came out
to visit for a week to go, hey, do we
want to come out here right. Fox Sports was starting up,
and she wanted to work for E Entertainments. We're like,
let's come out here and see so. And my roommate

(03:08):
from college was out here. He was working at an agency,
and he was like, yeah, let me know what you want.
I'll get your tickets with different things. Okay, great, And
I remember he got us passes for the day onto
the Paramount lot and we're like, oh, okay, great, we'll
go on the Paramount lot and see you see everything
going on. And he got his tickets to go see Lisa,
which was Lisa Gibbons.

Speaker 3 (03:26):
He saw Kibbins.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
Yeah, neither has it ever been to see a talk
show like that. We're like yeah, sure, Like we were
also gonna go see I forget it might have been Friends.
You're going to see a taping of Friends, I think,
but you know, Lisa was the first one. It's like
middle of the afternoon on a Monday. We're like, oh, yeah, yeah, okay,
we'll go see Lisa. What was the matter, right, So
it's a midday talk show. We go and we eat
lunch in the commissary. You're like, this is great, we
can't wait. We go and we sit down and Lisa

(03:49):
and we sit down in the back and we don't
know what's going on with the show. We have no idea,
so we sit down and the warm up person comes
out before Lisa Gibbons comes out and says, hey, we
have an incredible show for you today. And I forget
what they said, but they said, we have a show.
We have a family who was reunited after they were
kept apart by by parents who treated them awful. And

(04:13):
it was just some kind of like heart string and time,
like the first time you've seen something. Now you hear
that and you go, yeah, that's every Friday on television, right.
But back then, like in the in the mid nineties,
like oh okay, and it was just like and and
and and the and the the warm up person says,
I promise you there will not be a dry eye
in the house by the time we finished this show
in an hour. And Bill looks at me and says, no,

(04:35):
we're not hearing for this. Let's go. Let's go.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
Say what do you mean, let's go?

Speaker 1 (04:39):
And she turns and and she goes to walk out
of the seat, and like the production assistants are standing
in the roads, like making sure people who said it,
don't leave, and they like, hey, where are you going?
The show's going to start here. I'm sorry, I don't
feel good. I I I want to know. We had
at lunch. I think I had fish and it wasn't that.
Oh my god, you have to be okay, Well, we'll
save your seat as long as we can.

Speaker 3 (04:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (04:58):
We left it like I can't do this.

Speaker 3 (05:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
We went to a cup.

Speaker 1 (05:03):
Yeah, that's it, that's it.

Speaker 3 (05:05):
We did a couple of.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
No, that's it, right, you look like positivity. Yeah yeah,
oh no. I was like, no, let's go, let's go.
We're not staying for this. Okay, all right, we'll leave
it now.

Speaker 4 (05:16):
My favorite was The Price is Right. I got caught
trying to uh there was a piece of uh, the
the drapes, the old brown scene from the Bob Barker
days that had kind of ripped most of the way off.
I was gonna try to help it. That last inch
security guy I'd meet the entire time, well I would,

(05:38):
I would falling off. Man, it's almost there. It looks raggedy.
Come on, it looks cheap.

Speaker 3 (05:43):
This way.

Speaker 4 (05:43):
You could make a nice snip. I get a nice souvenir.
Who's the wiser. Uh he was, you know, but that
didn't work.

Speaker 1 (05:52):
Uh So, while the E Cup is going on on Saturday,
a great appetize, whether your seat filling or not, for
the big slate of NFL games on Sunday and the
two biggest games. The first one you got the Chargers
and the Chiefs. Frostburg is on a plane to Kansas
City now or it's gonna be like zero degrees. And
he got mad at me last night because I said, hey,
I read that Sunday is gonna be the best day

(06:13):
of the week in Kansas City. It's gonna be really sunny.
And he goes, oh really, he looks at He goes,
you jerk, blankety blake, But you do that to be
for what are you talking about? And he shows me
the weather every other day in Kansas City fifty fifty
five forty eight Sunday twenty degrees. But it's gonna be sunny.
What I said, what the sun's gonna be out? The
suddenly out. He did not want anything to do with

(06:35):
me after I said that last night.

Speaker 4 (06:36):
Well, you know, generally gets very very upset at us
whenever the Chargers get mentioned.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
This is yet another game where you hear the overarching
opinion of well, the Chiefs have to win this game.
It's at home, the backs are to the wall. How
many times do I have to tell you this year,
this envision, this incarnation the Chiefs. Until they do things
in the offseason, it's over for them. It's over. Their

(07:05):
season ends on Sunday. The Chiefs can't do it against
good defenses. While the weather's gonna help them, clearly, because
you have a you know, a Los Angeles team on
an early kickoff on a cold field. But the Chargers
have a top five NFL defense. The Chiefs have trouble
against top five defenses. That's kind of how it goes.
It's not where suddenly oh mahomes gonna no. You see,
over the course of the season, they have a lot

(07:26):
of difficulty. It's not gonna be a pretty game. It's
gonna look a lot like the game last Monday Night
with the Eagles and the Chargers, where Justin Herbert getting
hit on every play. But the Chargers have just enough offense.
They'll run the football a ton on Sunday. It's gonna
be a low scoring game. I love the under in
this one, but they will just do enough and Herbert

(07:47):
will just do enough, and his toughness and the wins
by the Chargers will vault him into the MVP talk
in a bigger way after this week, right, because it's
not about stats this year. It's not about putting up
these great eye popping numbers as it's Hey, just like
in college with the Heisman Trophy, who got leaders of
the best teams? Like you're gonna start seeing Justin Herbert
in a big window on Sunday where most of the

(08:08):
country gets this game. Another week of him being tough
and leading the Chargers to a win, and his MVP
stock goes way up. Give me the Chargers to end
the chief season.

Speaker 4 (08:17):
Yeah, I would start the broadcast and then every quarter
gat that super cut of him having to get the
bandage replaced last week after the surgery because it was
bleeding through, and really sop that up, you know, because
even the most art and supporter in the broadcast booth
of the Kansas City Chiefs will have to acknowledge his toughness.

Speaker 3 (08:38):
Now they might not go.

Speaker 4 (08:40):
Full hyperbolic the other way, like you know, Jim Harbaugh,
this guy's the greatest.

Speaker 3 (08:45):
Warrior I've ever seen.

Speaker 4 (08:46):
It's like my kids you know, it's greater than my
kids are, my marriage and all these other things. No, no, no,
we won't have any of that. But where I'm most
intrigued right is for Patrick Mahomes. Now they're five and
a half point favorites. I think some of that is
the they can't lose again, can they? Sure they can't.
Jesse Minner is trying to get crowned king. They might
actually bring him out his own throne if he can

(09:09):
go and depose these guys one because you'd bury him,
you know, just like the house landing on the witch
in Wicked or Oz spoiler alert if you didn't see it,
it's already made a billion dollars. You didn't really care. Yeah,
you know, I know that in case you haven't watched
it from nineteen thirty nine on. But all of that

(09:33):
to say for jesse Minter, I mean, the last week,
how much press has he gotten? Maybe to go to Michigan,
maybe one of the other pending openings in the National
Football League. That defense has been fantastic. Here's another opportunity
chiefs offense that can't get out of their own way.
We did the eyewatch of Flex earlier and we always
do you know what we put as the cold sores

(09:53):
tongue in cheek, right, of guys, I am not touching.
Patrick Mahomes was on that list of all right, you'll
probably play them, and you're gonna hate yourself watching that
game because you're gonna be gripping, wishing, wanting, hoping that
someone finds the end zone and it's not Kareem Hunt
from three yards.

Speaker 3 (10:10):
Out or something of that hillk.

Speaker 4 (10:12):
So, yeah, this is one for the Chargers, massive game,
massive implications, and they really can be heralded and be crowned,
you know, and given the keys to the kingdom literally
if they can depose the Chiefs this week, the NFL
will send them all bouquets of flowers and chocolates for
the holiday holiday holidays.

Speaker 1 (10:32):
Now, the other game, late Window, we get the Lions
and the Rams and the questions gonna be here are
the Lions, the chiefs of the NFC, in which maybe
we don't want to realize their window is closing. The
Lions just have too much trouble getting it going right.

(10:52):
Here we are in December and the Lions are still
struggling to maintain any sort of really upward momentum where
you can believe they're back to being the team they
were a couple of years ago. Right, I mean, the
everybody has a window. The Lions had a great window
the last two years. But now things it's a little
bit too difficult for them.

Speaker 3 (11:11):
Right.

Speaker 1 (11:12):
It's just not been away where they've been able to.
The lost last year to the Commanders. They still feel
like they've been trying to come back from that, and
it's still too much stop and go, still too many changes,
and maybe the Lions the window with the way this
team is out there is closed. Look, they've paid a
lot of guys money. They got to pay a couple
more guys. But man, I'll tell you what. It doesn't

(11:34):
seem to be trending upwards for the Lions. They're on
a three year decline. NFC Championship game, out in the
playoffs last year. Now on the outside looking into the playoffs,
and they'll be more on the outside on Sunday because
the Rams defense will get the turnovers they need to
and win this game. It's a lot of points. You
like points. You will love this game Sunday. If the
over was seventy five, I would have the over, but

(11:55):
fifty four and a half. As we sit here tonight
on a Friday, that's just the first half over that's Fecht.
It's gonna be look tons of points. But I have
more confidence that when push comes to shove, the Rams
defense will make the couple of plays they need to
win this game. Then the Lions defense is gonna get
to make those plays against Matthew Stafford the Rams offense.

(12:16):
The Rams continue to cement their case for the number
one team in the NFL. Give me the Rams over
the Lions on Sunday.

Speaker 4 (12:22):
Yeah, they'll move the ball. Rams are given six at home.
Fifty four and a half, as I said, is the
total in this one. I just think the back seven
for Detroit is too banged up. I think there's too
many holes. So you pick your poison. I mean, you
just talk about the laundry list. And as the week
went on, more and more guys being declared game time
decisions at best in the back seven. Right, we're talking

(12:45):
about most of your starters on the edges. Nikua and
Adams should feast. This is a game where DeVante Adams
should be more than a red zone threat for you
for once. And we talk about the backfield. Kyron Williams
and Blake Korum will do their damage, but here's a
big spot for Matthew Stafford add some distance in the
MVP race. I think this is an easy one, and

(13:08):
that's not that's not Bears fandom. That's just watching Detroit
third down efficiency. They're in the lower half of the NFL.
We've watched the gambling not quite payoff to the same level.
Jamiir Gibbs has been alternately brilliant and shut down. This
is not a defense where you're expecting the jail breaks.
I don't care that that total is fifty four and

(13:28):
a half that comes in the Hey, we have to
keep firing downfield to jameson Williams and I'm on Ross
Saint Brown to try to make some things happen. But
the depletion of some of those receiving options also at
play here. For Dan Campbell and company.

Speaker 1 (13:42):
Exit out about a Fresca exit swollen dome. Jason Smith
Mike Carmon live from the Fox Sports Radio studios, and
look with if the Lions lists with what's going on
with the University of Michigan, people aren't gonna care. It's like, eh,
it's all right. The Lions all right, whatever they lose,
we got we got bigger fish to fry right now.
We got a lot of stuff happening here.

Speaker 4 (13:58):
Well, I mean this was supposed to be the thing
to give them some comfort. Either that or they have
to transition to the twenty and five Detroit Pistons.

Speaker 3 (14:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (14:06):
Well, hey, that's that's an easy pivot. That is an
easy pivot, right.

Speaker 4 (14:09):
Yeah, although she goes back to friends and you going
to see taping see what we did there.

Speaker 2 (14:14):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (14:14):
My uncle called me today, Eddie. Uh, it's basically it's
like my brother in law because because he because he
and his wife are his wife's kind of like Pam's
older sister, even though they're their aunt and uncle, just
because the way the ages are, like they're only a
couple of years older than we are. And he called
me today and he said to me, Hey, are we
really going to get Anthony Davis said, yeah, no, dude,

(14:35):
I don't think that's gonna happen. I I and if
and if it did, oh man I I I don't know. Man,
I think the pissot. You just stay pat right now.
Don't worry about the Anthony Davis talk. That's insane. If
the Pistons make any kind of trade for Anthony Davis.
Guy can't stay on the court. What are you gonna
You're gonna trade for Anthony Davis? So what he is?

Speaker 4 (14:54):
He's wearing that weird sweater and capri pants or whatever
the hell that.

Speaker 3 (14:57):
Yeah, it's I mean, look it's bolds You know me.
If you're gonna you know, you be you.

Speaker 1 (15:04):
It's half Christmas and half summer at the lake.

Speaker 4 (15:07):
I don't know what was going on there, little holiday
cond is sweater, but the outfit. Look, it goes back
to the conversation that we've had about Lebron James's former
teammate and a lot of these aging stars that have
had some injury issues and concerns and have big, bloated salaries.
The amount you have to give up to your core

(15:28):
to go make that happen is not worth it if
I've got to give up three or four guys to
make the salary match. And that's where you're at with
the Pistons, because you don't have a bunch of heavyweights
where you just say, Okay, we got some dead weight
here and that guy there and that's gone. No, you're
looking at having to package three guys plus some picks.
It's like, no chance, I'm not doing that. No way,

(15:49):
even if he brings that cool sweater with him. Exit
out about a Fresca exits Swallen Dome. We got more
big games to pick coming up later on this hour.

Very Good voter ready to make another cut to get
very good players ready for the Hall of Fame. He
is Jason Cole. What's happening, man?

Speaker 2 (17:24):
I was thinking about this earlier. I haven't been on
the show in a while when drinking heavily beforehand.

Speaker 7 (17:33):
In a while, in a while, in a while, okay,
how long it's a while, because a while, okay, So
immediately now it's like, okay, how far back do we
have to go?

Speaker 2 (17:49):
And it's months, not years.

Speaker 1 (17:52):
That's okay, Oh, it's months.

Speaker 2 (17:53):
Okay.

Speaker 4 (17:54):
I was born thinking when you preface it like that,
how's your Friday, buddy, and.

Speaker 1 (17:58):
You're saying you and you're saying saying you want to
do that in the future is what you're saying.

Speaker 8 (18:03):
Well, I was thinking that might help.

Speaker 9 (18:06):
So just you know, I got to get blasted to
go on to talk with heart Smith and Harmon these guys.
My goodness, we're going to talk about cowboy bees and
all kinds of stuff.

Speaker 3 (18:16):
And the first time I would have heard.

Speaker 2 (18:18):
That, I haven't loose in a while. So yeah, just
thinking about that, not because it was a specific topic
I just wanted to throw out. Okay, thinking about just.

Speaker 8 (18:33):
Making it out there.

Speaker 2 (18:36):
Yeah, maybe go go full on Saucer Brooks, Steven Martin,
celebrity ROAs.

Speaker 1 (18:41):
Okay, all right, he's roasting everyone.

Speaker 3 (18:44):
All right.

Speaker 1 (18:45):
So so let's because this is this is the story
I've been waiting to ask you about all week because
I know I'm going to ask you and your response
is going to be a left.

Speaker 3 (18:58):
Okay, what hell? Exactly?

Speaker 1 (19:03):
What what are we going to get from Philip Rivers
if he plays on Sunday?

Speaker 2 (19:12):
Well, there's a bowler tie in our future?

Speaker 8 (19:14):
Isn't there something like that?

Speaker 1 (19:16):
It might be there could be there could be some
sort of endorsement deal if he has a big game.

Speaker 2 (19:19):
Sure yeah, wow.

Speaker 8 (19:25):
I hope we don't get you know.

Speaker 2 (19:27):
Like crippling injuries. But no, I love Philip. You know
this is fun. You know, he's he's put off the
Hall of Fame thing for five years, you know, in
all likelihood because they're they're there. Once he gets activated,

(19:47):
he then is they're taking him off the ballot and
uh for this year, and they're gonna probably have a
revote because I think he's probably a good chance he
would make the top fifteen this year if if he
if he doesn't, you know, if he's still considered eligible.
So we're going to have a problem with that if

(20:08):
he's the like if.

Speaker 1 (20:10):
He didn't play, and he was up this year for
the first time, Like how close is he actually getting?

Speaker 8 (20:14):
I mean, I think he's in the top fifteen, but.

Speaker 2 (20:17):
We you know, we've talked about the mass part of it,
and the mass part of it complicates it a lot.
I don't think he's a first ballot guy, and especially
not this year where you have Breeze and Fitzgerald and
Witten and Gore and then you have holdovers with Leanda
and Keithley and even Eli. Like I have a hard

(20:39):
time between trying to figure out the Eli Rivers. I
think Rivers was a better player, But Eli, did you
know the two Super Bowls weigh pretty heavily, right, You
kind of have to think this one through. Which way
is that going to go? But I thought he would
he would be well done the list, but he would
he would gain momentum out like all of that's gone,

(21:01):
and we put it off for another five years and
don't even think about it for five years, which I
don't really doesn't really bother me that way either, because
there's plenty a good good guys to select, you know,
and they're not just very good, but they're all of famers.
Just to make sure we understand that. And so anyways.

Speaker 8 (21:28):
I mean, he's close, but.

Speaker 2 (21:29):
Under the current mass rules, which I don't think are
going to last much longer. But that's my guess. I
think it's gonna it would take a while, it would.
You know, he's the kind of guy who's probably gonna
have to wait a minimum of three to four years.
And that's even if they read and state the old
old pattern. I think even in those rules, he probably
have to wait a little while.

Speaker 3 (21:51):
See.

Speaker 4 (21:51):
I like the addition in the Twitter verse of Kurt Banker,
former quarterback for the Packers and Journeyman. He goes he
if he gets activated, it helps reset his health benefits
for a bit.

Speaker 2 (22:06):
That's important.

Speaker 8 (22:07):
That's an important equation too, especially.

Speaker 4 (22:08):
When you when you got a bunch of kids and
you know, grandkids and everybody that's you know, you got
to look after.

Speaker 8 (22:14):
What does he have forty five kids or something like that.

Speaker 2 (22:17):
You know, I'll take but yeah, that's poor woman. A
lot of kids she's been working hard. I got to
give her a lot of cred. She deserts me in
the Hall of Fame.

Speaker 1 (22:28):
Well, he gets to go there. He gets to go
play football for a few weeks while she's got all
the kids at all, because they.

Speaker 3 (22:33):
Do have a two year old or something at all,
don't they?

Speaker 8 (22:35):
I mean, you know, I don't.

Speaker 2 (22:37):
I don't. I don't even know, like I I've lost
track of it at this point in time. But like
they've got eleven twelve kids, and their oldest is broadly
in college. He graduated. I don't know. It's a long time.

Speaker 4 (22:51):
So, yeah, he has a grandpa, all right, Ja Cole.
Does Joe Burrow hate football or does he just hate
the Bengals?

Speaker 2 (22:59):
What to say?

Speaker 8 (23:00):
That asked that question again?

Speaker 4 (23:02):
Well from his Wednesday presser and talking about joy and
whatever else. Was it just the sadness of turning twenty nine?
Or is this guy starting to ask for his release
from the prison that is the Cincinnati Bengals.

Speaker 2 (23:14):
I doesn't it always.

Speaker 8 (23:17):
End this way with Cincinnati players, and.

Speaker 2 (23:21):
At least the good ones, like they recognize that they're
in prison. Yeah, you're in there's more dangerous though, the
warden from shots Tank or Mike Brown.

Speaker 4 (23:36):
Wow, now there's a comparison you didn't think you'd get
on a Friday night.

Speaker 8 (23:42):
Oh my goodness, just.

Speaker 1 (23:43):
Thinking of Bob Gunton just making sure that they have
some pie she can't bake for blank.

Speaker 8 (23:49):
Here you go, get that Bob Gunton. Is that the art?
Is that the act?

Speaker 2 (23:54):
Yeah? Yeah, he was. He was God, he was great
in that role.

Speaker 8 (23:58):
He was awesome.

Speaker 2 (23:59):
He's so he's so evil in just such a perfect way.
And when he throws the cigarette down and just stamps
it and looks up and just that's there's there are
some moments in that movie where he really almost heals
that movie.

Speaker 1 (24:15):
So not tomorrow, not after breakfast, Now we're gonna find him.

Speaker 2 (24:20):
Now, now.

Speaker 1 (24:24):
You're gonna talk to Joe Burrow.

Speaker 3 (24:26):
Now, not tomorrow, not.

Speaker 1 (24:27):
After breakfast, but after now after that press conference.

Speaker 10 (24:33):
The doubles.

Speaker 3 (24:39):
There, it is, get that Ai work in there. J
Cole to gut that one.

Speaker 1 (24:43):
He's got like the poster of Jamar Chase up on
the wall, going, let's ask Jamar Chase if he knows anything.
And he throws the bubble through it breaks to.

Speaker 3 (24:52):
What do you think?

Speaker 10 (24:53):
What do you think?

Speaker 8 (24:53):
Sweete f.

Speaker 10 (25:02):
Looking looking at it like the escapes is the only
way out of the locker room.

Speaker 8 (25:08):
Tumble out of the locker room.

Speaker 1 (25:13):
He's got it. He's got his He's got his jersey
and his and his uniform like in the bag tied
to his fond as he's crawling.

Speaker 10 (25:19):
Some room, little umble wall, the rocking field from him.

Speaker 2 (25:32):
He spent twenty years ending his pocket to borrow to
brow in.

Speaker 8 (25:45):
Frame.

Speaker 10 (25:47):
This is so great.

Speaker 1 (25:49):
He gets out into the rain and he takes off
his He takes off his Bengals jersey and it's a
Dolphins jersey.

Speaker 2 (25:58):
I trusted theever He's throw him across the Ohio River
and he saw on the Kentucky's side.

Speaker 8 (26:06):
Yeah, he just rips it off.

Speaker 10 (26:10):
This is great.

Speaker 2 (26:11):
Oh, this is something. This if they if Blacher Reports
still did all those cartoons like they did way back
when that's this would be perfect for that escape from escape,
escape from Mike Brown escape?

Speaker 1 (26:28):
What what what?

Speaker 2 (26:28):
What?

Speaker 10 (26:28):
What? What?

Speaker 2 (26:29):
What would they call? What redemption would it be? Was
not Shawshank redemption. It would be Riverfront redemption. There we go.

Speaker 1 (26:37):
Oh, yeah, that looks good. Riverfront redemption. Yeah, that's good.

Speaker 2 (26:40):
There we go. We got that.

Speaker 8 (26:41):
Okay, all right.

Speaker 3 (26:43):
So the poster.

Speaker 1 (26:44):
The poster changes over the years. First it's Ken Anderson,
then it's Ikey Woods, then it's Staking Culture.

Speaker 2 (26:57):
It's Corey Dillon, and Corey Dillon is the tell because
Corey Corey, Corey fought his way out. Yes, that's now,
that's that's genius right there. That's that's yes. Joe Burrow,
it is his moment of shot. He's stuck in Shotshank prison,

(27:17):
he really is, and and he's turneling his way out. Yeah,
I think there was definitely the God where am I?
My my career is just it's just dying on the
vine right here. I can just feel it. It's just
it's just nowhere because we blew that game so bad,

(27:38):
and like he was responsible for that game last week
in certain ways. But yeah, there was a there was
some defensive issues as well. I mean they just like,
come on, man, you have you have Joe Burrow. You
have to go full on trying to take advantage of
every minute and Joe Burrow and they just don't know

(27:59):
how to do this, you know. Mike Brwan just and
I'm not sure that is that are Katie and she's
you know, she's the one who's going to take over
the team along with her husband. But I don't think
she has the where with all they do it either.
And she's she's a lot. She understands football and knows
how it works. But I don't think this is not

(28:21):
going to be like the Bolts under Jimmy or says daughters,
that's that's not what we're looking at. Not no way.

Speaker 1 (28:29):
He's on Twitter at Jason Cole sixty two. That is
at Jason Cole sixty two. He's going to go back
and watch the shawsh.

Speaker 2 (28:34):
Anker who plays that young guy who's the young guy
who gets who gets off by the wardens. Yeah, Tommy, yeah,
Tommy right, Tommy.

Speaker 1 (28:48):
Would climbing trees. You swear to that at corner lot, Yes, sir,
and you put looks up the spines. Yeah, it looks
at the the sniper.

Speaker 7 (28:57):
Yeah, there we go.

Speaker 1 (28:59):
All right, Hey, call and Joy see anybody today next week?
There you go. There it goes exit out about a
Fresco exit swalling down the Jason Smith Show with my
best friend Mike Harvey.

Speaker 11 (29:10):
That is not John Cena.

Speaker 1 (29:13):
No, instead, it's Monty Belangos. And she's got what's trending
in the wide world of sports. Three glasses of Whiskey's down.
Just listen to her voice. You know, that's where she's
at on a Friday night.

Speaker 3 (29:25):
Whiskey's rough.

Speaker 12 (29:26):
Can it be tequila?

Speaker 1 (29:28):
Sure, but whiskey will give you a better voice, Lily's true.

Speaker 3 (29:30):
Yeah, whiskey and cigarette whiskey gets you that husky voice.

Speaker 1 (29:33):
Yeah, you want to be a voice overstar Monsie Whiskey
and five years. Okay, got it.

Speaker 12 (29:39):
God, I'm gonna I'm totally gonna take this advice. In
the NBA, guys right now, Steph Curry has twenty three
points and the Warriors lead the Timberwolves seventy nine to
seventy six.

Speaker 1 (29:50):
There's still a quarter and a.

Speaker 3 (29:52):
Half to go.

Speaker 12 (29:52):
They're halfway through the third here. Earlier today, though Donovan
Mitchell dropped forty eight points, twenty four of them came
in the fourth quarter, and the Cavaliers rallied asked the
Wizards one thirty to one twenty six. Mavericks pulled away
in the fourth quarter to defeat the Nets one nineteen
to one eleven. Anthony Davis with the double double twenty
four points and fourteen rebounds. The Jazz and the Grizzlies
went down to the wire, but Utah won at one

(30:13):
thirty to one twenty six behind Keyante George, who ended
with thirty nine points, which was a career high to
go along with six rebounds and eight assists. Also, Spurce
center Victor won Banyama. He's expected to return from his
calf injury to play against the Thunder and tomorrow semi
final of the NBA Cup in Las Vegas that you
guys are going to go to. He is expected to
play limited minutes. I heard you, You're going to fill

(30:34):
in the seats which go I heard you. I expect
to expect to see yeah, exactly exactly. In college football,
Indiana quarterback for Nana Mendoza took home the Davy O'Brien
Award for Best Quarterback and the Maxwell Award for most
Outstanding Player in the Nation, while Nord Dame running back
Jeremiah Love won the Doak Walker Award as the nation's
top running back. In NFL news, Steelers edge rusher TJ

(30:56):
w is likely to miss Monday's game against the Dolphins
after undergoing a surgical procedure to repair a collapse along
The Packers are listing running back Josh Jacobs as questionable
After a limited practice today, Bear's wide receiver Roman Doonday
is questionable to face the Browns on Sunday. When it
comes to the NHL, the Mammoth are up on the
Kraken right now, three to two. There's about four minutes
to go in the third period and the Blues already

(31:18):
defeated the black Hawks three to two.

Speaker 6 (31:21):
Back to you guys, thanks a bunch, Yes, Monsi bolangyo,
sucking it up to come in tonight with with all
the with all the penicillin cheese up, filled herself full
of ready to be in tonight.

Speaker 1 (31:31):
Here medicated for sure, spraying.

Speaker 3 (31:34):
Down the studio as she leaves everywhere.

Speaker 1 (31:37):
I'm walking just spraying my saw. Yeah, just you know,
like what who is the dad form my big fat
Greek wedding. Just kept walking around the wind decks every
time for everything clean here, got it clean here all right?
Thanks a bunch mons yep Jason Smiths my carbon lot

That's h A l e O n Assist dot com.
Hailey on Assist dot com. Well, coming up next, one

(32:19):
part of this crazy Charon More story that's been going
on the last couple of days with Michigan that needs
a little bit more attention because there's been zero attention
on it yet. What is it that's next? Jason and
Mike Fox Sports.

Speaker 11 (32:32):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in

Speaker 1 (32:51):
Fox Sports Radio. It is the Jason Smith Show with
my best friend Mike Harmon. We got Pete Futech coming
up in about a half hour college football news inside

(33:11):
our extraordinay or get his pick for the Heisman Trophy
and what to make of what's happening at Michigan. The
latest news today with the Charon Moore that just gets
weirder and weirder. But one part of the Michigan Charon
Moore story that needs to be addressed, That really hasn't
been addressed since, you know, kind of some fun things

(33:34):
like right away when you found out Michigan fired Charon Moore, right,
like we get you know, right, clearly he's dealing with
a lot of stuff. The university is dealing with stuff
when it comes to the fallout from here's your coach
who was engaged in a relationship that that he wasn't
supposed to be in and wound up getting fired, wound
up getting arrested facing a felony and misdemeanor charges after

(33:55):
threatening to kill the woman he was involved in a
relationship with and then threatened to kill himself. Like there's
there's a lot of stuff that the school is dealing
with and that they're dealing with with him in the
fallout is every single day. But the one thing that's
not been talked about since, like jokes in the beginning,
and I don't many jokes about this is just jokes about, hey, hey,
maybe Lane Kiffin's gonna want that job. Uh, Michigan needs

(34:18):
a head coach, right, Like I know you want to
think that. Well, it's in the middle of December and
they have their their interim coach and Biff Pogi, who
is there, and and and clearly he's gonna be a
lot of fun in the side line of the bowl game.
But you're now gonna see schools come in try to
poach players. You're gonna see other schools, other schools try

(34:39):
to get the recruits that have already pledged uh to
to decommit and get back in and leave because now
here's the guy that recruited them. And and there's gonna
be a new a completely new coaching staff in there
at some point, Like Michigan needs a coach, Like they
can't afford to sit and wait and say, well, well

(35:00):
we have to let the dust settle on this and
se Sean Moore's ex head coach not coming back, right.
I get that Michigan might be a tough sell right now,
but you don't have the luxury of waiting if you
want to keep your recruits. Look, what do we see
Penn State's recruit this year after James Franklin got fired.
Took him a while to get a new head coach,
and what the recruited class is down in the hundreds, right, Like,

(35:21):
get Michigan can't wait for that. They need a new
head coach. And I know that They know this because
even though Michigan sometimes moves at a glacial pace when
it comes to sports, they haven't always had the best
relationship for or wherewithal or a head thinking to say, well,
you know, hey, sports is gonna make a lot of
money for us. Now, they've always kind of, hey, wait
a minute, why are you in our way? I think

(35:43):
they know they need a coach. And I'm telling you,
as more time goes on, here we are, We're three
days into this and we still have not heard any
names other than Pogi coming in to be the interim guy.
I know that there was a little bit of smoke
there in the beginning. But if the Alabama Crimson Tie
lose to Oklahoma, and that can eminently happen, that's a

(36:04):
toss up game right now. If they lose to Oklahoma,
it's not gonna be that tough to get Kaylen Debor
out of Alabama. It's never been a smooth ride for him.
It's always been at arm's length. He camean was supposed
to be great. Well guess what didn't make the playoff
last year? God in this year, but that wasn't enough.
Even though it's controversially that God if they lose the

(36:24):
first game. Yeah, I think Alabama would be okay with
saying we need to move on. And look, Michigan's gonna
have to worry about the buy Like it's a lot
of money. You're you're not doing the triple threat buyout
where you're gonna buy out your current head coach, then
buy out another head coach and then give him a
big salary. So at least there's that they're not paying
Searon more any more money. But you're gonna have to
buy Kaylen Debor out of Alabama, which is gonna be

(36:46):
in the fifty sixty million dollars then another eighty You're
talking about one hundred and fifty million dollar bill to
go get a new head coach. But you kind of
have to, you kind of. And the fact that we
haven't heard anything and no names have come up tells
me that they're waiting at out at least a few
more days. And if Alabama loses, that might be the
move to go get No, you've heard all the stories,

(37:07):
Oh to Bor maybe not be the best at in Alabama,
better fit you know, back in the Big ten.

Speaker 4 (37:12):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (37:12):
But the fact we haven't heard anything in Michigan knows
they got to get a guy. I wonder if they're
now spending the time saying, hey, we got an aggressive
move coming up. We need some money. I know we
did you guys, we haven't really asked you for a
lot since, you know, because Bryce hunder was only eleven
million dollars. That was nothing compared to one hundred and
fifty million we need if we want to get a
good head coach to come in here. So I think

(37:32):
they're probably lining up everything they need to line up
right now. But I'm telling you, the fact we haven't
heard anything that tells me that might be there and
that might be the best option they could go is
because Kaylen Debor is a hell of a coach, being
able to succeed to the level he is at right now,
even in Alabama, which has been a no win situation. Yeah,
him in the Big Ten. Yeah, No, sign me up
for that. I think that's the guy.

Speaker 4 (37:54):
Yeah, And you go back to the idea that even
earlier this season, right, one quick loss is like he's tomorrow.
It's like wait, wait, hold on, hold on here they
are back in the playoffs, and you can argue about
the merits of that whatever, But yeah, he's the leader
in the clubhouse betting odds.

Speaker 3 (38:09):
Jedfish second Biff Pogie, who's.

Speaker 4 (38:12):
Got his whole history that is really starting to come
to light, and people reading his background's like he's a
what that's right. He's a millionaire many times over, and
he likes coaching football. Kind of crazy. We've talked about
Jesse mintor a bunch. I threw up Marcus Freeman as
the hail Mary. That's a little longer shot, but all
of that to say that the longer you wait, the

(38:33):
more you anxious your recruits get. The more anxious the
folks that are writing the big fat checks to your
university to make that machine go get in this process.
So you know when and when you dismiss a coach. Right,
we open the windows and all of a sudden, guys
can start fielding a bunch of phone calls. Not that
they're not their back channels. I mean, let's not be

(38:54):
naive about all this, but you know, in terms of
the the above board process, Jason, it all opens up
and your roster can get poached pretty fast. So you
want to stop the bleeding as best you can. I'd
love to be a fly on the wall and and
going through these names and as they get vetted, it's
like anything with that guy. You don't have anything with

(39:15):
that guy, do we There's nothing in the tabloids. You
talk to that Harvey guy over at TMZ, he got
anything over there. So yeah, it's it's one of those
processes because the last you know, you get to keep
your national title. But you know, still a lot of
folks casting dispersions around the program and wondering long term

(39:37):
how this would would play out. And well, now you're
looking for your next and there's a lot of guys
and let's face it, money talks.

Speaker 1 (39:45):
Look, and it's a hard sell. I get the Michigan's
a hard sell, but think about this way. It's a
hard sell. But for a year, you're gonna get a
pass because they're just gonna want to get back to
playing football after this, right, No, that's it, right, Yeah,
it's a hard sell, but for a year, all right,
you'll have a pass into the season after So I
tell you, they gotta get after some guy quick. It's

(40:05):
it's they can't wait. And the fact that we haven't
heard anything. Yeah, Caitlin Debor might be that guy. Just
gotta hope that they don't lose, they don't win, they
beat Oklahoma. Suddenly you might be looking at somebody else.
