got Pete Futech coming up at about twenty minutes College
Football Insider. What does he make of the playoff poll

(00:57):
that we have right now? Is the college football player
off committees We talked about last hour, just dying to
drop Florida State out of the top four. But there's
another big takeaway from this mic that I want to
get to here for a few before you get to
that crazy story out of the NBA, is that you know,
you look at the poll that came out tonight and
Florida State back in the top four. They're number four,

(01:19):
Georgia number one, Michigan number two, Washington number three, Florida State, Oregon,
Ohio State, Texas, Alabama. That's how your top eight shakes out, right, Georgia, Michigan, Washington,
Florida State, Oregon, then Ohio State six, Texas seven, Alabama eight.

Speaker 4 (01:35):
Don't forget to round out the top ten because it's
important for the overall conversation of this.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
Well, you got a bunch of two lost teams.

Speaker 4 (01:43):
But in terms of when you start making arguments about
all of this stuff, right, Missouri and Penn State finishing
out the top ten. The Penn State is the double
underscore one.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
So when you look at what is sitting at five
and seven, Oregon over Texas, and that's a really big
deal because Texas is kind of screwed because Texas is
gonna play the big twelfth CHAMPIONI game against Oklahoma State.
What what are they favored by nine touchdowns in that game?

Speaker 5 (02:15):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (02:16):
Yeah, And Oregon's gonna play Washington, who's the number three
team in the rankings and in the top five team
in college football. When you look then you're looking at
Oklahoma State and they're ranked eighteenth in the playoff poll.
Now that game's gonna be in our window, which is
gonna be kind of cool, So we're gonna get to
talk about it. But is there any way that Texas

(02:37):
is able to leap frog or that's why Oregon Washington
is a win and in game, because nobody's gonna jump
up ahead of Oregon, and Texas certainly is gonna jump
up ahead of Oregon with a win because Texas can
beat Oklahoma State fifty eight to three, and if Oregon
beats Washington twenty eight twenty seven doesn't matter. So I
look at Texas kind of got the short end of
the stick because right now you look at what the

(02:59):
the the the teams were on both sides and wins,
and you're talking about big wins. You know, look, Oregon's
terrific team right now. I told you how good bo
Nix is, and you know he's gonna win the Heisman
Trophy on Saturday. But Oregon doesn't have a win like
Texas does over Alabama. They just don't. And you can
you can say, well, the resume the overall resume. When

(03:19):
you play a bunch of teams that are jags, it
doesn't matter if one team is just a little bit
more of a Jag than the other team, it doesn't
The Jag teams are all the Jag teams. When you
have a win over a really good team, you're talking
about top five, top seven, top eight teams, that's a
really big deal. Michigan's win over Ohio State is better
than any win almost anybody else's had on the schedule

(03:41):
this year. When you beat a top team, you beat
a top five, top six team, that's a really big deal,
or you know, top seven, top eight team and they
don't have a win like like Texas does. And I'm
really surprised at that that it's just the pageantry of
the PAC twelve. And oh in the PAC twelve is good.
But yeah, okay, I get it. But I think we
saw the PAC twelve kind of, you know, came back

(04:03):
to the pack a little bit over the course as
a season one. I was great in the first six
seven weeks. Oh, the PAC twelve is leaving. Pack twelve
has kind of come back to the pack. And that's
the last time I say the word pack. But I
mean when I got to I say, okay, hey, you're
talking about two teams and one loss, and Texas has
the much bigger win than Oregon has the one game
they played, they could have had a bigger win on

(04:23):
they lost. So it's really hard for me to see
that the Texas is not over Oregon this and Texas
screwed at it because unless you get chaos, which is
Florida State losing or not playing really really well, unless
you get something in that top four, Texas is gonna
be on the outside looking at Yeah.

Speaker 4 (04:38):
And I mean it's something we addressed a little bit yesterday.
Was the idea that that week two game seems like
many miles ago and another season ago. Right, So when
these guys are in the room, just like Boo went
out of his way to point out, you know how
Florida State, you know, it's a different team. It's only

(04:59):
one guy, but it's a different team, and acknowledging the
elephant in the room there, I'd like to hear when press,
you know, foot to the fire, doesn't that actually look better?

Speaker 1 (05:10):
You know that win over Alabama now, right, doesn't that
look better?

Speaker 4 (05:17):
I would think, I don't know. I mean, you know,
trying to read tea leaves because year to year, you
know what the criteria are and how they evaluate those
early season games that you know, they try to encourage
teams to play right. We want these big marquee games,
just like the NFL does their thing. I think needlessly
for them were the first couple of weeks we got

(05:39):
some big marquee matchups to get you suckered in and
welcome you to the new NFL season. College football actually
gets a little of that, and I think they need
a little bit of that, and it's good that teams
do create and go for those challenges and we get
some classics off the jump. If that's part of the
equation of nah, you know what that's that's that Alabama team.

(06:01):
You know that wasn't very good, so we're gonna we're
gonna dismiss that as opposed to you know, they're really
good now, and maybe you should have acknowledged you just
got them early, so you know, in your thinking and
rankings and everything else, there should be more consideration there. Yeah,
I think, you know, when we look at it on
the whole they're they're probably gonna need a whole lot

(06:22):
of chaos for.

Speaker 1 (06:23):
Things to happen.

Speaker 4 (06:25):
I mean because just just thinking, you know, because of
the the thinking of the larger you know, the mass
hysteria that's been surrounding Michigan. What if Iowa hangs around
like they'll still be undefeated, But does it jumble everything?

Speaker 6 (06:42):
You know?

Speaker 1 (06:42):
Maybe I can see I can see Michigan like dropping
from second to third. But I mean, really, you're a
big twelve, you're a big ten team. You beat Ohio State,
You're Michigan. Yeah, look we dropping out.

Speaker 4 (06:54):
I'm just saying that it's it's enough to wear the
ripple effect, not just that it would move Michigan in
a spot or two, but maybe you rethink a lot
of stuff into that force slot if you get full chaos.

Speaker 1 (07:06):
Oh man, I'll tell you, but I'll tell you the
biggest thing. The the playoff committee is both praying and
hoping against Alabama beating Georgia. That's right, Like, on one hand,
they wanted because they want Alabama in, but they're like,
oh my god, the chaos that would happen. We would
have to make our vote and then go on vacation
to Greenland or Antarctica and we made our vote. I'm good.

(07:27):
I'm on getting on a plane.

Speaker 4 (07:29):
Just the game, making a bad call and recognizing it
and running to the hills.

Speaker 7 (07:34):
What do you got prosper It all means nothing. If
Florida State beat Louisville.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
Yeah, I don't know, man, You mean you don't know
if they go undefeated Florida State. If Florida State.

Speaker 7 (07:43):
Florida State beats Louisville, they're in. There's no fans a.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
Florida State looks bad. And I mean if they look
the vikings bet now, I don't think they did. You
saw the CFP chairman said, hey, hey, Florida State, good
to different team without Jordan Travis. The guy said it
twice on television. Hey great, it's more than one guy.
You can.

Speaker 7 (08:04):
Undefeated.

Speaker 1 (08:05):
There he's the but he's the guy that has the
dec makes the de sho.

Speaker 4 (08:08):
I like what you're saying, invity justin and in a
fair and right world, you're one.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
Hundred percent this committee to do everything correctly. Hell no, no, no,
And and that's the point to it. In a perfect world,
if you're looking at it going undefeated, winning the ACC,
I don't care how many quarterbacks you lose. You could
be down to playing Charlie Ward at quarterback. At this point,
you go undefeated and there's only three other teams undefeated. Yes,

(08:35):
you're in the playoff, but this commit they open the
door to the fact that, yeah, Florida State, different team
without their quarterback, and are we really going to put
them in the playoff if we think that other teams
are better? If Texas wins Big, if Alabama, if Alabama
wins Big, that's the chaos thing. That's that's why I mean,
they're both hoping it happens, hoping it doesn't not because
it would be unbelievable because they could find a way

(08:57):
to get Alabama and Georgia in for the s. But
they could also find a way to go how do
you how do you how do you defend pushing other
teams out or an undefeated Florida State team or you
know somebody, how do you defend doing that? Because that's
gonna be the worst thing. So it's both great and terrible.
But Truck, they open the door for it. Man, they
open the door, and all Boo.

Speaker 4 (09:17):
Has to then say, boot Corgan His answer is, look,
I'm coaching the defense.

Speaker 1 (09:21):
Don't ask the question again. Now we'll have again. We'll
have more on college football coming up in a few minutes.

it's another tournament night late tonight. So but tomorrow Frostburg,
Tomorrow night, Lakers tournament game. Right, We're all no, it's
not a league game.

Speaker 7 (09:55):
Smoky's Lakers are already finished with their up. They've already
advanced the semis, so they're done for now.

Speaker 1 (10:03):
So it doesn't matter like they these games don't matter.

Speaker 7 (10:05):
They roll to the Semis like Jesus the right.

Speaker 1 (10:08):
I really hope they make the finals. So it's a
big in season tournament. Get you know, tonight we watch
the teams win. Everybody's getting there. It's kind of getting
I guess interesting. But this story out today that the
semifinals and the finals are coming up in Vegas. Starting
to see commercials about this on the NBA Semifinals and
Finals in Vegas coming up soon. And right now the

(10:31):
NBA is selling tickets for this event in Vegas. Buy one,
get three tickets. Yeah, let's go.

Speaker 7 (10:41):
That's just for the Knicks.

Speaker 1 (10:43):
It's it's like going to Stephen Barry's when they were
around by one item at full price, get three free.
It's like, oh, this is great. Or you go to
that one place on campus and college that was always
by one item, get two free. Right, everything is thirty
percent on one. It's like, oh, this is good. I
feel like this is Stephen Barry. They buy one ticket,

(11:04):
get three tickets free. That's how much we're struggling with
this in season tournament. And you know, I don't know.
When I look at big business and I see them fail,
I say to myself, how do people get this far
in big business? Right? Really? I mean, the NBA decided
that we're gonna have these games come as part of
the regular season, and we're gonna paint the court to

(11:27):
tell people what it is and what it isn't, and
we're gonna have the games someplace else that's not where
teams are gonna play. How do they? How are they?
How do they get to that and go, Yes, that's
how we're going to maximize the NBA in season tournament,
to make it something that people don't really understand or uh,
they're gonna do it at the beginning of the season,
when the excitement of the regular season is already new.

(11:48):
You don't need to worry about it. Yet. I don't
get how this was the idea that went through. I
really don't because the easiest thing to do for the
end season turned. Look, the players are are enjoying it
as much as they can. The players are saying a
lot of good things about it, and it's getting as
much positivity as you can get for a tournament that's
just an absolute mess. And now you know, no one
wants to go see it. Obviously, teams are waiting to

(12:10):
see who's gonna play in those tournaments. But when you're
given away, when you're doing a buy one, get three free,
you know you're in trouble.

Speaker 4 (12:16):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (12:17):
All you had to do was have this after the holidays.
Have it after the holidays are over, and you play
the games and it becomes just part of the schedule, right.
It comes Hey, we're stopping the regular season and now
we're playing the n Season Tournament games. They can count
as regular season games if you want to. They could
not count as regular season games. It doesn't matter. But

(12:38):
you play them, and you play it at everybody's arena,
and you're counting, and you have separate standings now that
you're keeping for the next two and a half weeks,
three weeks. It's the NBA in Season Tournament. And these games,
like I said, they can count for the regular season.
They can knock count because it doesn't matter. Right, it
doesn't matter because you're still getting home games. Everybody's getting
the same number of home games play. Everything is fine,

(13:00):
but you actually make it a tournament. You can't. You
can't make a tournament and have a tournament go on
where something else is going on at the same time.
You don't play the NFL playoffs and then play some
kind of other tournament. Well, the team that didn't make
the playoffs are actually playing their own tournament to say that, no,
there's no consolation round. They don't do that. It would
have been so easy for the NBA to just say, okay,

(13:20):
after the doldoms, after the holidays come, we get into January.
We're gonna have our tournament, right or whatever, whenever you
want to do it. We're gonna have our tournament now.
It's gonna be three and a half week. It's gonna
be awesome. Everybody gets the same money. We get more
money from TV because we're advertising this as the end
season tournament. We're making it a trophy. You can win,
it a big deal. We're giving the players money. The
players like because it's five hundred grand a person if

(13:42):
you win, so the stakes are there for them. It
would have been so easy to do it that way.
And I don't know how this became the idea where
we're gonna paint the courts and make sure that that
teams put it on social media, and we're gonna have
the games go every other game or every three games.
This is a tournament game. It's not a tournament game.
How does that get? Okay? When what I just laid
out there could have been an easy way to make

(14:02):
the tournament a one time right away. Hey, I love
the tournament. It's awesome right away. I get it. I'm
excited about it. It's its own thing. If we win
the n season tournament, I can celebrate like we're like,
we're one part of an NBA championship squad. I don't
get it. I'll get it, man. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (14:18):
I think a lot of it comes down to you're
not you know when you go into your separate thing.
Are we still only go in the eighty two total games.
We got to add more games, and then we got
to look at the CBA and we got to fight
about dollars and cents and.

Speaker 1 (14:31):
Roll all that through.

Speaker 4 (14:32):
I would say short term in terms of the ticket
issue that they have really quickly, you know, the buy one,
get three free.

Speaker 1 (14:39):
They're coming out of all.

Speaker 4 (14:40):
Of the chaos that was the F one race, which
went off really well and looked fantastic in the middle
of the night and everything as it finally got underway
and for stopping no matter the surface goes and wins.
He won again this week, and Abu Dhabi, by the way,
but they had all those and they're not done tearing
that down.

Speaker 1 (14:57):
So you got all those pitfalls.

Speaker 4 (14:59):
Like you said, in terms of domestically, folks trying to decide, well,
do I want to go just watch any team or
do I gotta wait for mine? I would hope you'd
be really pushing towards the international fan base to try
to get them to Vegas for the holiday holiday holiday.
But at this point you just want butts and seats,
and then you can charge them ten bucks a hot.

Speaker 1 (15:19):
Dog, ten dollars hot dog. Really, that's our The idea
is great too. I don't know how this is what
the NBA came up with. I don't get it, man,
but aba, dude, it was a microwave decision. We have
to mention Stephen Barry, so I think we went by ones.

news of the night, The new and next to last
college football playoff poll is out. Georgia number one, Michigan
number two, Washington number three, Florida State back at number four.
They are your four undefeated teams. Oregon at five, Ohio

(17:59):
State at six, Texas at seven, Alabama at eight. Those
are your one loss teams as chaos could reign following
this weekend. Joining us now to break it all down.
Guy who's been pointing at this chaos for a couple
of weeks now he is the editor, proprietor, owner, governor

(18:21):

Speaker 3 (18:35):
What's going on? Gentlemen? So how are we thinking? Dino
Babers is gone? Michigan wins. This is just kind of
a time for you guys. You guys, are you know,
living it up now?

Speaker 1 (18:44):
Hey, dude, I look at it this way. I think
George is basically I don't know that they're even gonna
make it into the playoff fall because fran Brown's gonna
take all those players to Syracuse next week. They're not
gonna happen to these guys.

Speaker 3 (18:55):
Yeah, absolutely, there's no Why save him now for this?
You know who cares if you're in the go take
Syracuse something special, Hue Show.

Speaker 1 (19:04):
All right, So let's get into what the chaos would
be here, because it's something that you've talked about for
the last few weeks. You see the game's top four. Obviously,
you know everybody seems to be in a winning in situation.
But let's start with Florida State. When I saw the
Playoff Committee chair bout Corgan say today on television, Hey,

(19:24):
Florida State, different team without Jordan Travis. They're more than
one player, but obviously different team without Jordan Travis. Is
there a scenario in which the Florida State Seminoles win ugly,
kind of like the Bears beating the Vikings last night,
and they get knocked out of the top four, Because
I feel like they're kind of laying the groundwork for
that A little bit.

Speaker 3 (19:45):
Yeah. Yeah, but that would take something absolutely historically strange
because remember in the college football Playoffs era, we have
never had an undefeated Power five conference champion, not yet
in we have never had a one loss Power five
conference champion get left out for a team that didn't

(20:08):
win a Power five conference other than Notre Dame going
twelve and oh and taking out Ohio State who got
rim rocked by Purdue. But that was a special scenario
because Notre Dame it's twelve and oh and they're really
kind of in the ATC. So for them to do
that would basically to just completely obliterate all precedent in

(20:28):
the history of this three fifth year of college football playoffs.
My argument on the flip side of this is, so
it's based on what you're basically on a quarterback, and
if you go by the body of work, did they
kind of rock LSU and the opener?

Speaker 1 (20:46):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (20:46):
Did they go thirteen to o and win their Power
five conference?

Speaker 1 (20:50):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (20:51):
And why are we just crowning Georgia and Alabama? Because
the SEC continues to be, especially after this last weekend,
the worst of the Power five conference to conferences against
other Power five conferences, and look Georgia, Like if you
got to take out the it's the two time defending
national champion Georgia because that actually shouldn't matter if you

(21:14):
actually look at their body of work. It kind of
gotten blown off that. Okay, oh, Florida State wasn't the
same thing. They've Georgia didn't exactly destroyed Georgia Tech. You know,
they've been okay, but they beat Missouri. Okay, they beat
who's there, Oh, miss That's fine. But if we're going
to give this blind love to a let's say a

(21:35):
one loss Georgia team has to get in if they
move to Alabama, that would then say that they they
just lost to a team that was ranked eighth and
needed a fourth and forever play to get by a
team that got destroyed by New Mexico State the week before.
So there's a whole lot of parts of this that
kind of get assumed that, well, the SEC's got to

(21:55):
get a team in. Not really, if you really kind
of bust it down, is that really?

Speaker 4 (22:02):
I like the way I like to cut of your
jib and you just made Paul fine Baum's head explode
in and nobody knows why.

Speaker 3 (22:10):
Not the first time, by the way.

Speaker 4 (22:12):
Yeah, no, but what we look at it, you know, Pete,
when we talk about chaos theories and all of this
running down, if you were going to set precedent, it
all changes next year and everybody's joining new conferences and
whatever next year.

Speaker 1 (22:22):
Anyway, so you could do whatever the hell.

Speaker 3 (22:24):
You want pretty much, I mean, you do. But it's
also not really fair to be with the first day,
day one of when they set this thing off.

Speaker 6 (22:34):
I was there.

Speaker 3 (22:35):
I shook I shook Bill Cancock's hand.

Speaker 1 (22:37):
I should know you shook his hand. It's like Sinatra's.

Speaker 3 (22:40):
Hand, exactly, It's exactly I should know better. Uh So
I was with and they've they have very they've been
a very big point to kind of say, to keep
everything loose because they don't want to commit to any
rigid thing that they would have to backtrack on. So look,
they could do their panel. They could take you know, Louisiana,

(23:02):
Monroe and U Mats and Syracuse if they wanted. But
you know, they're really not bound by anything but to
do this, they're kind of leaving themselves open. But again,
they said number one over anything else. Who won their
Power five conference championships? So start with this, who after
the next weekend. Who are the five Power five conference champions?

(23:23):
And even if it's a one loss Georgia, they take
they take a step back in the pecking order here
because you know, again, here's the craziest of crazy scenarios.
Let's say Washington doesn't lose to Oregon. Not crazy here,
Let's say Michigan wins, Washington wins, Florida State wins. You
have three, you know, undefeated Power five champions, and Texas

(23:46):
absolutely obliterates Oklahoma State and then Alabama upsets Georgia. Tell
me how an SEC team gets in.

Speaker 1 (23:58):
Pete. Not only that, tell me how Alabama gets in
over Texas because people people are going to conveniently forget Yeah,
but they played earlier this year now, but that was
in September. We don't count that game. That doesn't count anything.

Speaker 3 (24:12):
I am this is all speculation because we never ever
know until but we find out after the conference championships
are played. I am under the purest of beliefs. Actually,
when I was down there in grape Vine texts all times,
there's a little box that said, in case of emergency,
break glass for Alabama, And like they just they just
went in doubt, They just go to that thing and

(24:32):
just say, oh, oh Alabama okay, you know, and they
just say that's their that's their teddy bear, that they
that's there, that's their happy place. So I am if
they If Alabama beats Georgia, the party line will be
simple Alabama. That was a different team. Now they change
mill Rose better blah blah blah, and they beat the
number one team in the country. Are are p number one?

(24:55):
They beat them, so they are the SEC champion. They're
getting in. That's how they get in over Texas.

Speaker 1 (25:02):
There it is.

Speaker 4 (25:03):
You've set it up perfectly. I love it that we
can run Ocean's thirteen lines together. He's Pete Feutech with
us here Jason Smith Show with Me, Mike Carman, college
Footballnews dot com.

Speaker 1 (25:13):
Will you find him at Pete Feutech on x slash Twitter.
His tagline quote, it's not my fault. Your school is
a better at college football. So as we look at it, Pete,
you know, we keep waiting for chaos, and Jason and
I have been going and dissecting it every way to Sunday.

Speaker 4 (25:32):
The Texas thing is really the problem. And then we
haven't even mentioned Michigan at this point.

Speaker 1 (25:37):
They get the victory over Ohio State.

Speaker 4 (25:39):
Jim Harbaughs now back and everything's right with the world
and they're a twenty three point favorite.

Speaker 1 (25:47):
Yay the hot guys.

Speaker 3 (25:49):
I Hey, someone's got to play them.

Speaker 1 (25:52):
Someone's got to be there, right, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (25:53):
Someone's gotta do it. Someone's gotta play you know, Yes,
last week it was a big picture. Okay, Michigan, then
just go beat them, take care of business, and you're
in the Road Bowl, you know, so that's you're in Pasadena,
that it's set done, go out there, win thirty eight
six and just you know, take care of business and
don't even mess around. So it's even if it's the
weird part about the college football since playoff scenario at

(26:16):
scenario at this point, and by the way, my basic
argument also is this, why are we just assuming we
should be bending over backwards for a one loss Georgia
when their loss would be worse to Alabama than Ohio
States would be going on the road and losing on
the final drive to number three Michigan. And if you
look at the best wins, well, Ohio State went to

(26:38):
Notre Dame and they beat Penn State. Technically it's about
as good as beating Ole, miss and Missouri, and yet
Georgia's being said, oh, we got to put Georgia in, Well, why,
you know, not necessarily. But with that said, Michigan, it's
hard to find a scenario even with a loss to
Iowa where they're not in. You would have to have

(27:00):
a whole lot of funky things happen, including Alabama beating Georgia.
It's because the problem is of Alabama beats Georgia that
triggers the whole Texas Alabama debate. If Georgia beats Alabama,
you don't really have Texas in the mix. You can
still argue that, all right, well Michigan lost and they
beat Ohio State, that's still pretty good. We could probably

(27:21):
get Michigan in there because you know, bad day against Iowa,
but that would be the part part where you lost
to Iowa. And if Texas wins the Big Big twelve championship,
they're a champion, so that would get a little bit quirky.
But it really is kind of hard to see where
Michigan is not in our college football playoffs.

Speaker 1 (27:36):
All right, Pete, let me throw this by it because
we thought it was done last year. I watched CJ.
Stroud say I'm never going to get to play in
the playoff. I gotta live with that, and then hey
we back in. Yeah, let's just say Georgia beats Alabama,
Texas loses in the Big twelve championship game, Florida State
loses to to Louisville. Does Ohio State by not playing

(28:00):
sneak by everybody like they did last year? Does that happen?

Speaker 3 (28:03):
It's doable. It is absolutely, you know, because in this scenario,
you're assuming that you've got to assume that Ohio State
is not getting it over Michigan. So just you know,
however that works, Michigan bet diohare fine. And in this scenario,
there's no real way, o House it's going to jump
the PAC twelve champion either way, however that works. So
there's two spots filled. Then you've got to just kind

(28:25):
of assume that you know that you're right, Alabama's got
to beat Georgia. But then you have to have the
argument of that I just said, do you give Ohio
State the nod over Georgia. That's kind of tough. So
you almost need Georgia to beat Alabama. So there's a
third spot. Texas has to lose Florida State has to

(28:46):
lose and then Ohio State gets that fourth spot. It's
not as crazy as you think, because again, as we
were talking about before, Florida State, would we be shocked
if Louisville, right, he rows up and won this? Well, yeah,
I don't think they're going to. But if they did, okay,
sort of State's kind of kind of looking like they're
begging to get tagged. Here's that wouldn't be too crazy.
And you know, if Oklahoma State goes crazy and it's Texas,

(29:07):
they're gonna blow it at some point. So you know, no,
it's not crazy to think that Ohio State's completely obvious.

Speaker 4 (29:12):
Louisville just a two and a half point dog. All right,
let's take it back to Saturday. As you watch the
theater unfold. How much did you really enjoy watching the
internet blow up about Ryan Day?

Speaker 3 (29:26):
So I just published the piece today where it's like
it's insane how hard it is to find a college
football head coach who's with you for three years and
win sixty percent of their games like it is. You
think that that can't be that big a deal. Win
six out of every ten games and be around for

(29:46):
three years it's insanely low. It's like only a quarter
of the college football coaches are still there doing that.
And like when you take it the five years, you're
only talking like eleven of them. Here you've got a guide,
Ryan Day, who who beats everybody and just can't get
by Michigan over last years, and everyone wants him gone.
And like, okay, fin, who are you getting Ohio State

(30:09):
who is not going to only not going to beat Michigan,
but also never ever ever lose to Penn State or
Maryland or Michigan State. And if you look at the
Ryan Day resume, the losses are to all college football
playoff and or national championship teams. He comes within except
for one loss to Oregon it should have been a

(30:30):
Tack twelve title, and he comes within a miskick of
winning the national championship last year. And they want him
gone because he can't beat Michigan. And like you said,
we're not that crazy away from them getting into the
playoffs with a chance. I think in this tournament, I'm
not coming them out. I think there's still good enough
to win this thing if they get in. So it

(30:51):
is insane in that rivalry, you cannot lose to the
other side.

(34:10):
I'll tell you this, Mike Carmen. I hate to say
I told you so, you know, because you know I do.
I hate No, it's been a minute. I hate to
say I told you so. But three weeks ago when
I told you, look, the Jets season is over. It's over, man.
They're not They can't beat anybody. They're not gonna go
on a big run at the end of the season.
I told you it was over, and not to have

(34:32):
to rehash how bad things are, but I told you
it was over. And the Jets are acting now like,
oh well, now they're acting like even the last week
it was all we could still save a seat. No,
the season's over, man. It was over. It was over
when you had to go to Zach Wilson. It was
over when you didn't develop another quarterback. It was over
when you refuse to change the offense to try to
suit what Zach Wilson does well, it was over. It
was over. And for all the talk of that was

(34:55):
kind of sharing the headlines of Aaron Rodgers is gonna
come back. I told you he's not coming back. You're
not gonna see him this year. He's not gonna play
because by the time he's ready to play, which is
gonna be some time mid December, the Jets are going
to be four and eight or four nine, and he's
not coming back for that. Now. We got the report
last week that hey, regardless of the Jets record, Aaron

(35:16):
Rodgers is gonna come back, is gonna play the end
of this year. Oh wow, Rodgers coming back. Well, here's
Aaron Rodgers on the Pat McAfee show earlier today reiterating that, oh, hey, well,
I will still come back, but something has to happen.

Speaker 5 (35:32):
It's always been first, am I healthy? And then are
we alive? Are we in it? Are we playing good
enough to make a run? Can I step in and
protect myself and play at the level that I feel
like I'm capable?

Speaker 7 (35:47):
So he's retiring.

Speaker 1 (35:48):
So he's retiring.

Speaker 4 (35:49):
It's a final. I'm changing teams. I'll never play another
down for the Jets. That's what I heard there. I've
never I'm not gonna play unless we're contending. So he's
never gonna play for the because they're never gonna contend. Right,
how much of this is a departure from all we've
gotten for the last month and a half has been
he's throwing before games.

Speaker 1 (36:11):
Look at where he's at. My rehab is going great.
Keep telling me I can't come back. All of this.
I'm gonna come back to practice as early as this week.
My target date is mid to late December. Christmas Eve
is the game I'm coming I'm looking to come back for.
And now today is well, look, look it's always been.
Am I healthy? Can I come back? Is the team

(36:32):
playing well? Are they in contention? Can I protect myself?
He has pulled the plug on the season right now
is officially, and I'm not surprised. I told you this
is gonna happen. I told you he wasn't gonna play.
But now this is Aaron Rodgers saying, Okay, I gave
you that hope. I put out that hope for the
past few weeks and you guys stink. So now now
when it comes down to it, of course he's not

(36:52):
gonna play because the Jets are out of contention. Robert
Saul has spent this week telling Jets, hey, step up
and do your job and you'll really dig deep. It's
like this message you give when hey, don't quit on me.
So I get fired at the end of the season.
That's where the Jets are at. So I told you
he wasn't gonna play, And now Aaron Rodgers is pulling
the plug on the season. The Jets have to be

(37:13):
a contention. Guess what, They're not a contention. They're on
a top ten draft pick. Right now, it's over. He's
not playing. You're not gonna see him, and it's gonna
be hard to get excited for next year because I'm
gonna say, how long will you have him? Next year?
He's gonna make it eight plays, nine plays, ten plays,
maybe more than the four plays you had him this year.
But I told you wasn't coming back, and he's not
coming back.

Speaker 4 (37:32):
Yeah, it's no shock here right Like I've been calling
for the screw hard knocks on the Dolphins, Give me
the recovery time, give me the original surgery, give me
all of that behind the scenes would be far more
interesting than what we've seen.

Speaker 1 (37:47):
You know this that he could practice.

Speaker 4 (37:48):
As soon as like there's nothing to say, Hey, I
can come in and save this season, and as soon
as he puts the caveat of if I can protect myself,
well you can't. You watched the tape, GiB You're sitting
duck unless you're Dan Marino one one thousand and two,
one thousand.

Speaker 1 (38:04):
I'm firing it.

Speaker 4 (38:04):
Into the back of my wide receiver. You're not making plays.
You're not Aaron Rodgers if you go down that road.
So yeah, absolutely, no surprise here. I like the folly,
I like the theater. He's a guy who likes attention.
He's sure as hell got enough of it.

Speaker 1 (38:19):
Yeah, it's great. It was fun, and look, part of
it is, you know, yeah, I want to come back
and play, but also I want to prove that I'm
the biggest medical marvel. That's exactly earth right. I want that.
But he's now at least he's realized. Okay, so it
really smarts me to do this. If it we're not winning,
should I really do? Is it really worth it? Because
I want to play next year. I don't want to
have this achilles get torn again. I want to play

(38:41):
next year too. So at least cooler heads have prevailed,
because I don't mind not I don't want to see him.
If they do, what does it matter? If they win?
It doesn't matter if they win, if he plays, it's
next season. They don't take two weeks off and start
playing again. It's months and months from now. So I really,
I mean, it's it's it's hard for me to get
excited about it. When I knew it wasn't happen, and
it's still not gonna happen.

Speaker 4 (39:01):
Yeah, I just look at it from the you know,
it was a nice battle against science and trying to prove,
like he likes to do, that he's the smartest guy
in the room, and I appreciate that.

Speaker 1 (39:12):
I may resemble that remark oftentimes in my everyday life
and here on Fox Sports Radio, but every once in
a while, you just gotta acknowledge, you know what, maybe
I gotta set this one out, dude. That's a show
on Fox, Aaron Rodgers Versus Science SI episodes of that. Hey,
coming up, somebody just got paid
