but with no microphone, and it sounded like yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
It's like you're hearing it out of one speaker.

Speaker 1 (01:14):
Game one of the Stanley Cup final headed to over time.
Edmonton and Florida tied at three apiece free hockey telling you, man,
this may not be one of those Stanley Cup finals
gonna bring in the average viewer, the average fan, But
I'll tell you it is outstanding hockey.

Speaker 4 (01:31):
Man.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
I'll tell you if you are a fan of hockey,
that you are gonna you love the Stanley Cup Finals.

Speaker 5 (01:36):
Yeah, but they could grab both the finals and the
final and run them in parallel.

Speaker 6 (01:41):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
And it's just a.

Speaker 5 (01:42):
Lot of lamentation about television ratings whatever else. People are
gonna watch it, y'or not. Yeah, we for our jobs
and because we our love of sport. Guess what front center. Yeah,
fran Froustter's.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
Gonna watch because he just wasn't doesn't want to see
McDavid win. That's well, I mean there is something to
that should never win. He's wearing a Paul Marisa player
Jersey get excited for the panther.

Speaker 7 (02:05):
I will accept him being the greatest player to ever
live to never.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
Win a Stanley Cup.

Speaker 5 (02:09):
I believe he's actually dressed like a panther on the
He's a little you know, pictures, a little fuzzy.

Speaker 7 (02:15):
He can continue to have the greatest regular seasons of
all time and reached the Cup almost every year. You
gotta let the Kings and Blackhawks in every now and then.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
Yeah, we're never getting back.

Speaker 5 (02:26):
Okay, it's it was a long time ago. That was fun,
all right, it really was.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
Yeah, he doesn't deserve a cup.

Speaker 1 (02:32):
Yeah, I mean, but here's the thing though, I mean, like,
you know, in a couple of years, I think he's
a free agent, right, I think I think a couple
of years. Like that contract, that hundred million dollar contract
ends for Connor McDavid.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
There you go. Hey, the over under was six goals.
About that? Oh you're are you alluding to him being
a king in three years? Is that what you were doing?

Speaker 1 (02:51):
He's trying to talk him in sweater, right, and I
hope he wins every ring in that case. I love
the guy, yeah, because I mean, look, if he gets
to free agency, he'll probably say, hey, there's unfinished business.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
I have to stay. But if he's won, he says,
maybe I can go.

Speaker 1 (03:07):
When somehow we had the conversation on the show Monday Night,
where would I be okay with with Well, because of
how we arrive at things on the show, it's like
it was, Would you be okay with having your car stolen?
If that meant the Knicks beat the Pacers and got
to the NBA Finals?

Speaker 4 (03:22):
Right?

Speaker 2 (03:22):
Okay, you would steal your own car? No? No, we
found out he hired someone to do it. I'm driving
that into it?

Speaker 1 (03:29):
Did?

Speaker 2 (03:29):
You'll never say it? Classmaking of Zoe's who was on
his way? Here's a guy driving a car into the ocean?
What is he doing?

Speaker 1 (03:37):
Ah?

Speaker 2 (03:37):
I got so?

Speaker 1 (03:38):
I would you be okay if McDavid wins the next
two Stanley Cups just to become a free agent, not
to be not to be a king, but.

Speaker 2 (03:48):
Have the chance to be a any tiny verification that
he would be a free and well, but he's a
free agent. What are the odds that he becomes a king?
That's the thing though, now you even want he's going
to make the team for.

Speaker 1 (03:59):
Hey, every game every generation blames one of the best
player in the NHL who plays for the Edmonton Oilers
goes and plays for the Los Angeles Kings to help
the importance of hot.

Speaker 7 (04:11):
That's one way to get past the Oilers in play.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
Hey, bring drive title too, Okay, be perfect like that guy.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
Hey Man Bridge, you far man oh man, So we'll
keep you updated on this because hey, if you again
with the over under be and six, you're you're guaranteed,
unless you know, I know there's some people that have
they bet that right there?

Speaker 2 (04:32):
Is there any way you can end in a tie?

Speaker 1 (04:35):
Is there any crazy ass rule the NHL lives where
a game get ended a tie?

Speaker 2 (04:39):
Because I really want to catch this bet.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
Oh yeah, that happened to the great Stanley Cup Final
of nineteen twenty seven that was abandoned midway through overtime
of the first period. And yeah, oh that absolutely happened before.
So every five minutes, it seems college football changes, right
and now the big talk in the last two weeks
have been really hot and heavy about the expansion of
the college football playoff. We hear a lot about the

(05:03):
five plus eleven model which has been thrown out there,
which is five conference champions and eleven at large teams. Right,
we're going to get to that. Sixteen teams makes sense.
You want to be able to not have too much
controversy and have to choose teams who make the conference
championship game but lose it compared to teams that didn't
make their conference championship game. Well, but they played an

(05:25):
extra game, but they lost. Should they be penalized for it?
So five and eleven great idea. Now, of course we
have seen the Big Ten in the SEC. We'll started
making noise about wanting and certain coaches and certain you know,
you've certain administrators. Hey, we should have more spots. We
should be guaranteed a certain number of spots in this

(05:45):
because we're the two best conferences. And today, defending national
champion Ohio State head coach Ryan Day said that Ohio
State would like to see future models include at least
four automatic qualifying spots for the expanded Big Ten. Four spots.
Now the Big ten is bigger. It's no longer ten schools.
They have thirty eight schools right now. So yeah, he

(06:07):
wants a guaranteed four. Quote, we're in the Big Ten
and we have eighteen teams and some of the best
programs in the country. I feel like we deserve at
least four automatic qualifiers. This is again on the heels
of the other schools. So this is now the Big
Ten and the SEC are trying to wrangle this and
trying to hijacket and take charge of this right which
brings me back to the first thing I want to

(06:29):
say is my take from last week that I'm sick
of the Big Ten in the SEC saying we're just
better than you and we know Yes, yes you're global, Jim,
you're great, but college football is college bleeping football. Man,
there's other teams is others. Yes, you are the two
best conference men, but I'm sick of here. Oh hey,
just because the last few years it's been a great
run for the SEC and the Big Ten. Right, it

(06:49):
has been, but Big Ten wasn't the greatest conference for
a long time, but now this last year's oh yeah,
we're so much better.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
Than everybody else.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
And I say this living in a Big Ten household.
I'm sick of the elitist and and the and the
we're above everybody of the Big Ten and the SEC,
and I just I can't stand anymore. But we're so good,
we're global, Gym, We're better than you, and we know it.
I'm done with that attitude out of both of them.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
Yeah, I'm good with it being a guy in that
Big Ten.

Speaker 1 (07:15):
How else is Northwestern gonna again? We need to let
twelve teams into the Big Ten, and Northwestern could get in.
I let twelve teams in twelve to sixteen.

Speaker 5 (07:22):
Now this wasn't me personally as a Northwestern guy, but
now I feel attacked.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
So I will come back to you, Dino Babers. Dude,
I just read what we paid him for his eight
years at Syracuse. Second, well, that's way too much, all right,
So you know you sit on and shutty over there.
But when it comes down to this, it's like anything
in life.

Speaker 5 (07:41):
If you have leverage, if you have dollars and data
that can back you up, and you have some clout,
you're going to try to exercise it when you can.
And this is a position whereby trying to hold this
thing together for all the second, second, third, fourth level
conference says, you're trying to make sure you have a

(08:02):
shot at a seat at the table, because what you're
risking if fighting it too much is that the big
ten and SEC leave all together. Now, is that kill
everything else?

Speaker 4 (08:14):
No?

Speaker 5 (08:15):
But it certainly tamps it down quite a bit, now,
doesn't it, given the largest of the programs and the
dollars and eyeballs that flow with them. So yes, that
means you're gonna have to give a little.

Speaker 2 (08:25):
Now is four plus?

Speaker 5 (08:27):
Maybe it bridge too far, but maybe getting to four
people can agree to it, especially when we're talking about
a sixteen team playoff, which is inevitable like the than
oh snap that we refer to all the time. But
I think that's all this is. Like, here's your marching orders.
Go out, we have clout. Make sure you echo what
we have to say here. See, it's funny you say that,
because here's the thing.

Speaker 2 (08:48):
Is that because.

Speaker 1 (08:50):
But you bring up something that is absolutely going to
rock college football more so than we've seen it, right
because the NIL era USC and U U CLA leaving
for the Big ten like that. This started the whole
conference realignment, right, and.

Speaker 5 (09:04):
Now it's all the lawsuits go look at all the lows.
But overall college football, outside of conference re aligned which
we saw a few years ago, college.

Speaker 1 (09:16):
Football still on the field. The product has not been
affected that much. It's still the best teams in college football.
We see an expanded playoff, which is what all the
fans wanted, and now we're arguing about more teams in
the playoff, right, But so overall, yes, the business of
college football has changed. The NIL era, the transfer era,
teams moving conferences, conferences starting to align.

Speaker 2 (09:37):
Like okay, that's big ben Those are those are big things, right,
those are.

Speaker 1 (09:40):
But overall on the field and still here's the best teams.
The best teams make it. We have more teams in it,
and we're still seeing a season and anything. It's better
for the rest of college football because hey, if your
team is okay, you could have dreams of being a
top sixteen team in the country, have a nine to
three season, and you'll make the playoff, which will be outstanding. Right,
it's open the doors open for everybody. But this is

(10:01):
where this is really at a big This playoff expansion.
The decision on this is gonna rock college football forever
because what is gonna happen. And we talked about this
a year ago. If the Big ten in the SEC
don't get what they want, they will do exactly that.
They will go and have their own high level D
one college football and they're gonna say, it's gonna be

(10:23):
us in the Big ten, and we're gonna we're gonna
have the big TV contracts if we're gonna have the
big playoff, and it's gonna be all of us against them.

Speaker 2 (10:30):
It's what we're gonna play. We're gonna have thirty.

Speaker 1 (10:33):
Two teams in it, and they're gonna be the best
thirty two teams and we're gonna be the highest level
of college football, and then the ACC and the Big
twelve in a mountain West and all you guys can
sit there and be in the second tier. Right, it'll
be clearly, it'll be just like English Premier Football, where
you have the top tier, the Champions League. Why to
college Champions League. If it's a second league, I don't
say so, then that's what you're gonna have. And that's

(10:54):
gonna change college football forever. That's gonna change it because
if they leave to go, they will have their own playoff.
The money will be there. Everybody's going, Oh, I mean,
I get big ten sec games every single week. We
get them playing against we get them playing all their
normal conference games that they would see, and we get
them playing each other. All the other games are big
ten sec. It's all big games. Every week is Texas

(11:16):
Michigan or or you're seeing Alabama and Wisconsin, right, you're
seeing that every single week.

Speaker 2 (11:22):
It would be huge.

Speaker 1 (11:23):
And if they don't figure this out to keep everybody happy,
that's exactly what's gonna happen.

Speaker 2 (11:28):
And it sucks.

Speaker 1 (11:29):
Because I'm saying you have to count out of these
two conferences that are we're better than everybody. But yeah,
when it comes to the business, you got to make
sure they're happy or they're gonna leave and they hold
the cards. That's gonna change college football. That changes the product.
We see how that that changes recruit That changes everything
because you're talking about two different levels of college football
now and there's not gonna be a Hey, the champion
of your level will play the champion of our level,

(11:51):
and then we're bringing back together like the Super Bowl. No,
that's not gonna happen.

Speaker 5 (11:54):
Well, I mean you've already seen it affected change this
offseason because what's going on for this next playoff seating? Right,
you don't get the automatic seat at the table and
a bye week just by winning the conference.

Speaker 2 (12:06):
No, that's gone. So yeah, Big ten immediately flexing, SEC
immediately flexing. Greg Zanki's been doing victory laps and deep.

Speaker 5 (12:15):
Dives on any angle that anybody wants to go down,
you know, talking about the economics and the dominance, even
if it is near term, it's in the era where
the model has changed immensely and you can lament the
transfer portal as many people do. It's it's not the
cleanest way, but it's as close to a free market

(12:37):
as you can get when you don't have to sit
out unless you're staying in in conference and whatever. But
you know in those rules. But otherwise you have the
opportunity to go and find a place to play to
make some money, which what was always argued should be
the case. Okay, so fine that you deal with and coaches,
you either stay on board and learn to love it

(12:59):
and change your program accordingly, or you don't. As we
saw the guys that were first to the table on
one and done years ago, guess what, it's now their
time to shine because this actually matters.

Speaker 2 (13:10):
Hey, come on in.

Speaker 5 (13:11):
We've got a couple of grads transfers in, we've got
a couple of fourth and fifty year guys. But you
can come in right away after your freshman year. We'll
pay you a bunch of money and you'll be a
star here and away we go. So it's just a
new way of doing business. And for the SEC and
Big ten, you've got the power, you've got the cloud.
If you're looking for a job, you're you're looking at
where you might want to go to college.

Speaker 2 (13:32):
You're you're playing off.

Speaker 5 (13:33):
Financially aid packages. You're buying a house or trolona, buy
a car. You know, if you've got any bit of leverage,
you're gonna use it. Right me saying hey, I want
an extra you know, taco with when you buy me lunch,
you know I'll hold something over you.

Speaker 2 (13:48):
I mean, that's just the way it works.

Speaker 1 (13:49):
Extra taco good. I went down the basis. I'm glad
you got with you. I'm glad you taco Wednesday you
went to tacos there. I'm telling you that this is
everything we've seen business wise. This the decision on how
to expand could change college football forever because it's on
the field, on what we see on our televisions on

(14:09):
Saturday and assorted Fridays and and potential Thursdays.

Speaker 2 (14:13):
Uh, that's gonna change immediately off season.

Speaker 5 (14:17):
Was there any gray in the beard of Ryan Dat
or was it its usual?

Speaker 1 (14:21):
No, he's gonna yeah, he's got You gotta keep looking
young man, Blacker. Yeah, you got to keep looking young,
especially if you know, Hey, I'm still young. I could
beat Michigan at some point. I could be go on,
I'm still young. I'm still Young Exit Up about a

Speaker 2 (16:13):
That's how you go, Oh there's another three, you gotta
get worried. Oh there's another steal. Oh that's a turnover.

Speaker 1 (16:16):
You should be worried doing that on the show with
us last week while not break in hate you for that.

Thank you.

Speaker 9 (16:30):
Well he did.

Speaker 5 (16:31):
He sounded like Harry Carey the way he was doing that.
There's a groundball the second, you know, and I walked
into the bar.

Speaker 2 (16:36):
So I'm drinking tequila in this greasy So.

Speaker 4 (16:40):
That was three rough for you.

Speaker 2 (16:43):
Wow Sandberg.

Speaker 4 (16:45):
Goodness, it's only fourteen on the lead right now.

Speaker 2 (16:49):
Yeah, it's exactly what he didn't.

Speaker 1 (16:50):
I don't need it again from you. I don't need
it again. It's okay, we can move on.

Speaker 4 (16:54):
They come back and said, oh yeah, that's pretty interesting.

Speaker 2 (16:58):
Ye give him the stack.

Speaker 1 (17:00):
None of it was interesting. Do you know that that
in the history of the NBA.

Speaker 2 (17:03):
Since he.

Speaker 4 (17:05):
Actually my wife start wasn't the game with me, and
she was like, what the heck is this?

Speaker 6 (17:11):
This is awesome?

Speaker 2 (17:11):
This is yeah, I'm sure that happened.

Speaker 1 (17:14):
Yeah, I want to I want to sit down at
the end of MIAs Game one with you.

Speaker 4 (17:18):
Well, missus cal will we'll call us and she will
let you know because she listens to her all the
time when when I'm on the show, because she she
does enjoy the spanter so good that I could I could.

Speaker 1 (17:31):
Make up stuff about you, like does she know that
you used to steal cars before you became a pro
football insider?

Speaker 4 (17:37):
Attracted attracted me to her.

Speaker 2 (17:43):
I'm just saying, I don't know, I don't know if
you know that about you. I know that a whole system,
you know it was. It was all like yeah, it's like, uh.

Speaker 4 (17:50):
Yeah, she has a way anymore. Wait a minute, because
you can't make you can't even make up the stuff
that she know. She's probably for forty years know the deal.

Speaker 1 (18:03):
Wait now, now, Frostburg has a question for you before
you says he has a question for you, go ahead.

Speaker 2 (18:07):
Justin what you got? I mean I already know the answer.

Speaker 7 (18:09):
But does she want to hear the Halliburton shot that
one game won for the basers.

Speaker 2 (18:13):
I'll come on it, don't take it, We'll back then
a free for the room.

Speaker 4 (18:30):
It was an amazing wasn't it? Of all the of
all the basketball games? This isn't that one of the
most amazing shots.

Speaker 1 (18:40):
When you say amazing? Did do you mean like wow?
Or do you mean like amazing that I'm still alive
after that shot?

Speaker 4 (18:49):
I think both? Great?

Speaker 1 (18:52):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah yeah.

Speaker 2 (18:55):
All right, So can we talk football now? Or are
you done? Are you and your wife done?

Speaker 1 (18:59):
Whatever game you're playing where it's all that we're listening
and funny and you're with the funny guys and all
the time.

Speaker 2 (19:04):
Are we done? Can we talk football now?

Speaker 4 (19:06):
Let's call a very good boy, you know? Yeah? Now,
now like it's snarky with me and like all like
snippy and stuff like that, because everything hall is very
good voter here we are? Yeah, okay, yeah, go on

(19:26):
to your little football question.

Speaker 2 (19:27):
Do you think you know? But you know you're putting
very good players into the Hall of Fame.

Speaker 4 (19:33):
You know that, I mean great players. I think fameless
players in the hall. And that's what I'm doing. That
is my service to the world. That's where you get.
That's what it is. That's all I do. That's all
I will ever be known for. Is the select for you.

Speaker 2 (19:48):
That's okay, that's good right there. And and a bunch
of books that are available on Amazon.

Speaker 1 (19:52):
Yeah, and he once got threatened by Tim Tebow's brothers. Right,
that's right, speaking of very good quarterbacks, right, are you
buying all.

Speaker 4 (20:06):
That's not ten tibo if you're talking about a very
good quarterback?

Speaker 2 (20:09):
No, no, no, no, we've moved on. We move We moved
on here. So are you buying all of the hype?

Speaker 1 (20:14):
How good what we've seen so far out of your door?
Sanders at Browns camp? Even though it's ot as.

Speaker 4 (20:20):
I'm sure Ota, I mean, Ota don't mean anything like
they just I mean people don't understand, like lebody's playing hard,
nobody's making contact, nobody's playing at full speed. I mean,
it's great that he might be looking good, but this
is like looking good at seven on seven football. You're

(20:43):
supposed to look at it. That's if you're a quarterback,
that's what that's what OTAs are about. That's why wide
receivers always look like, you know, twenty million dollar guys.
I remember Charles Jordan's who's you know, fast guy with
a lot of talent or all sorts of ability. I
remember watching him during OTA's one off season. And you

(21:06):
have no idea who Charles Jordan really is because unfortunately,
you know, his NFL career didn't amount to that much.
But god, he looked great at OTAs. I'll tell you
that right now, like a million dollars didn't do any
games consistently. Partly is because it was hurt. But you know,

(21:28):
that's just what OTAs are about. So I'm sorry, I
don't care what they said about him. OTAs like, let's
see what happens when he's playing in actual games, even
in the preseason. Let's see how he is. It's we
remember like justin fields. Right, I'm sorry to see you
again because we just keep coming back to Bear's quarterbacks.

(21:50):
But there are there are those moments like when it's
full speed, how do you how do you react? When
we get closer at full speed? That's what I want
to see o tas are full speed drills.

Speaker 5 (22:02):
Speak of a guy that did well in full speed
drills and games a year ago, and now he is
under the microscope again. We go to the wonderful world
of Sam Darnold getting the vote of confidence from his
coach that is quote, best days are ahead of him.

Speaker 2 (22:16):
Do you believe his coach?

Speaker 1 (22:21):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (22:24):
Why not?

Speaker 5 (22:27):
Or will he lose the job outright like Matt Flinn
did many years ago in the same city.

Speaker 4 (22:33):
Hey, I think Donald's got a couple of I think
that last year earning him a full season with another
team to prove whether he can play. So I think
that he probably gets ended by full season. I mean,
you're going to get twelve starts. We'll do anything after

(22:54):
twelve starts and you know, look good, then okay, I
can see you moving on. But I don't think it's
gonna be like Flynn, where it was what four games
and then they were done with him. I think he's
got a longer lease than that. He's earned more than that.
But in this one time, we've seen what Sam Donald is,
which is a guy who's you know, invidible physical skill,

(23:20):
but doesn't adapt fast enough. It's sort of like the
whole Mark Sanchez thing when and you know, not to
dump on Jets quarterbacks either, but.

Speaker 2 (23:30):
No, not at all, of course, not.

Speaker 4 (23:32):
No, that's the aim, like not take aim like that.
Sometimes you know, I just don't see the fields fast enough,
and sometimes they see it fast enough for brief time.
Brief times, but then it gets real, right, and then
it gets to be another level of So Sam Donald

(23:52):
during the regular season last year terrific. And then you've
got into playoff type of games at both ends of
the season and actual playoff games where the speed takes
another notch ut right, and you're playing against better defenses,
and you're playing against you know, people who are really
seriously game planning you for situations, and you know, you

(24:17):
regress again because you're not good enough to take that
next step. And I think that said Sam Donald is
I just I remember watching him as a you know,
during practices with the forty nine ers, and you would
see him and then you would see Rock Hardy. And
I'm not saying Brock like Sam Donald looks apart from

(24:38):
the physical standpoint, Rusty plays the part because he plays
at a speed that can relate to the game, and
that's not to say. Brock Perty is a great player,
don't get me wrong, but he plays at the proper
speed and he adjusts to things the way that they're
supposed to work, you know, at real live action. That's
why he can't compete and gets you to a play

(24:59):
at They've gotten that team to displayoffs a couple of times,
got into a Super Bowl, once got him really close
to winning that Super Bowl. And Sam Darnold is the
guy who is probably the second level quarterback. He's in
that forever Alex Smith. You know, somewhere League hours, he's
probably nighting as good as Alex Smith, but somewhere in

(25:21):
that realm ja Cole.

Speaker 2 (25:23):
Now, now the big question I've wanted to ask.

Speaker 1 (25:25):
I understand if you you don't want to give us
the answer because you're protecting yourself. How much time did
you spend on Stefan Diggs's boat with him last week?
Who were you there the entire time? Just a little
bit of time? Like what what was? Because I looked
at you.

Speaker 4 (25:38):
And my wife's listening.

Speaker 1 (25:40):
Yeah, oh now suddenly, oh my wife was listening five
minutes ago?

Speaker 2 (25:45):
Was my wife is listening? Everything is wonderful? See whatever
you watch?

Speaker 4 (25:49):
Hey, my wife listening was five minutes ago. It was
a very different, very different question. Boats in Miami. What
did they call it? I was talking with Dan Solio.
He goes, I don't know anything about a blee boat.

(26:12):
I wouldn't know what that is. I've never heard that term.
But I was like, yeah, that's a Miami thing. That's
definitely a Miami thing. So yeah, Defon Diggs in the
booty boats. Yeah, that's going to get you that. That's
going to do well with Rabel and with Crafts. They're
trying to rebuild their image. That's great.

Speaker 1 (26:28):
And you know what's gonna happen is Jason's gonna hang
out the phone walk and his wife's gonna go, oh,
booty boat.

Speaker 2 (26:33):
Huh? You knew that phrase? How'd you know that? Good luck?
Good luck here?

Speaker 4 (26:38):
Cole No, I've already got a text message on that.

Speaker 6 (26:41):
One said.

Speaker 5 (26:43):
I saw a video. It was pretty obvious. It was
all hanging right there in front of me. Anyway, from that,
Saquon Barkley on the cover of Madden and all this
other fun stuff, is he serious in the hey, I
could just walk the earth like Canaan Kung Fu comments.

Speaker 4 (27:02):
He's really serious about that? I think that, Yes, I
believe that, Like I think he's I think he's another
worldly creature. I do.

Speaker 1 (27:12):
And he could he could walk away after next year,
like you could play this because he said retirements for
will come out of nowhere could be out. Do you
think he could do it after this year?

Speaker 4 (27:22):
He could be Like he's a different kind of guy,
Like I could just see I could just see him,
you know, just up and say it. I mean, he's
made a fair amount of money. But I do think
that there are some career things that are going to
start to if he has another you like, say, against
with sixteen hundred yards into the two K and now

(27:44):
all of a sudden you're saying, oh, are you on
a Hall of Fame path? That's where you start to
have to say, hey, take one, you want to do
a couple more years, get yourself into hall of Fame discussion,
because right now.

Speaker 2 (27:56):
You're very good. Right now, you're very good?

Speaker 4 (27:59):
Right well, you know what, You're exactly right, he is
very good. He's not he's not quite all in Hall
of Time category, not after just one season of that.
And I know he had the moments with the Giants,
but yeah, like he's not there yet. I think that
if he has another big year, they go deep in
the playoffs, maybe even win another super Bowl. You're talking

(28:22):
about you're talking about Hall of Fame candidacy, and he's
got to string together probably three or four good years.
And by good I mean in sixteen hire yards, two thousand,
you know, two thousand, all purpose. We all know all
those kinds of things. So he's talking about it, and

(28:42):
he could do it. He really could, because he's a
different kind of guy like that. I think it's the
temptation to say, let me, let's leave my imprint on
the game, because you know that wall same thing is
pretty cool, and signing autographs for the rest of your
life to make money. It's not a bad way to go, really, isn't.

Speaker 1 (29:03):
He's on X at Jason Cole sixty two, that is
at Jason Cole sixty two talking to us from his house.
Next week he will be from the couch in his house,
whereas blanket pillow will be set up.

Speaker 4 (29:14):
JA gosh, I will I will be in the I'll
be in the garage.

Speaker 2 (29:18):
All right. Booty boat, j Cole. Booty boat. That's just stated.
It will be like the Treehouse and step Brothers. The
Booty Boat's up in that tree. See you buddy. Here
goes Jason Cole always great with it.

Speaker 1 (29:30):
Pirates Man Chamaka Masks exit out outa Fresca X at
Swollen Dome, Jason Smith, My Carmen. Time now to find
out what's trending in the wide world of sports. From
someone who's been called the Tony Gonsolin of Fox Sports
Radio because she was having a great day up until
the first inning. It's Monzie Belogna.

Speaker 9 (29:48):
I was gonna say, I'm not a big cat girl,
so it can't be that.

Speaker 2 (29:51):
No, Tony, You're having a great day.

Speaker 10 (29:53):
Then right away, right what.

Speaker 2 (29:56):
Happened, Moncy? What happened in the first inning of the
Metro Dog.

Speaker 10 (29:59):
Well, let me tell you.

Speaker 9 (30:00):
It started off with Tony Gonsolin trying to break Francisco
Lindoor's ankle.

Speaker 10 (30:04):
That's how it started. And then in his last at
bat he hit his almost at his other ankle.

Speaker 2 (30:09):
Did you see that? Very aggressive?

Speaker 10 (30:11):
Very aggressive?

Speaker 11 (30:12):
And then Keky Hernandez had a fielding error at second base.

Speaker 9 (30:16):
So then Juan Soto had an RBI and it was
followed by a two run homer from Pete Alonso.

Speaker 10 (30:22):
So that is what's happened so far. And then Juan Soto,
did you just strike out again? That's what's going on?

Speaker 2 (30:28):
Walked struck out right right now? Yes, right now, right now?
Just what happened?

Speaker 11 (30:34):
I see he just took He was in the on deck,
so that's why I saw him walking away.

Speaker 1 (30:38):
He was off his helmet because he got to first
base and then the inning ended.

Speaker 10 (30:45):
He did, yeah, I'm walking away, put his helmet off.

Speaker 2 (30:47):
So that's on Keyk's hands.

Speaker 11 (30:49):
The blood of that inning iss hands, and that is correct.
So the Mets are still up on the Dodgers three
zero bottom of the fifth inning in l A. Is
on the scoreboard, but it doesn't matter so far because
the Twins are up three to one bottom.

Speaker 10 (31:01):
Of the sixth inning.

Speaker 9 (31:02):
The Giants have taken the lead from the Padres six
to five. Bottom of the seventh. They had the bases loaded,
they still have a man on third. They are down
to their final out of the inning. The Ools are
now on top of the Mariners three to two.

Speaker 11 (31:13):
Bottom of the seventh inning, and Andrew Benintendi tied the
game for the White Sox the sackfly, so they're tied
against the Tigers four to four.

Speaker 10 (31:20):
Bottom of the seventh inning.

Speaker 9 (31:22):
Earlier today, the Pirates shut out the Astros three zero,
the Red Sox walked it off against the Angels eleven
to nine, and the Guardians shut out the Yankees for
zero on the ice. Still in overtime, four minutes and
thirty four seconds to go, Panthers Oilers tied.

Speaker 10 (31:37):
At three apiece.

Speaker 9 (31:39):
Florida has had thirty shots on goal while Edmonton has
had forty three. So again overtime four and a half
minutes to go, tied at three apiece.

Speaker 10 (31:47):
Today in the NBA, the Suns found their new head coach.

Speaker 9 (31:50):
They're hiring Cleveland Cavaliers assistant Jordan Ott, and NBA Commissioner
Adam Silver confirmed that next season's All Star Game will
shift to a USA versus the World matchup.

Speaker 1 (32:02):
Back to you, guys, thank you very much, Jason Smith,
Mike Harmon Live from the Fox Sports or Radio studios.

Speaker 2 (32:08):
Coming up next.

Speaker 1 (32:09):
If you are expecting a quick resolution to the biggest
story in the NBA, I got news for you.

Speaker 2 (32:16):
It's not gonna happen for a while. That's next right here, Jason.

Speaker 6 (32:19):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific, Fox.

Speaker 1 (32:27):
Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best friend
Mike Harmon. Yeah, Florida and Edmonton continue to play on
in overtime. A minute left to go in Game one
of the Stanley Cup Final, Panthers and the Oilers tied
at three apiece. I keep saying it, but I'm gonna
keep saying it. Not a Stanley Cup Final to bring
in the average viewer, the average hockey fan, but Stanley

(32:48):
Cup Final. If you like hockey, this is gonna be
the Stanley Cup Final for you. If this doesn't go
seven games, I'll be stunned. When's the ghost game? Could
be overtime every third overtime that comes in. Yeah, third happened.

Speaker 5 (33:01):
So Gretzky puts on skates and he skates for both teams.
Oh no, he's not gonna skat comeake. He gets one
at one end and Lemieux gets the other or something.

Speaker 2 (33:09):
Oh and that's it. If we was gonna go over
till it is over. And it was a dry title.
I couldn't tell who it was.

Speaker 1 (33:15):
It looked like dry title puts it in. Edmonton was
on a power play and take Game one for it
just we're just talking about all of a sudden. Uh
four to three is your final Edmonton takes game one
of the Stanley counts. Oh yeah, they're gonna look and
see if it counts. You're gonna look at it. But

(33:36):
it was a bang bang play in front of the net.
I got all the Oilers fans outside the arena that
couldn't get in.

Speaker 2 (33:43):
Dirty, so they gotta look at this.

Speaker 1 (33:47):
You just hate dry title, you just hate him. Uh,
but it looks like yep, it looks like it's happening.
Florida is going off the ice. This is goal that's
gonna stand. And uh four to three in overtime on
the power play, the Oilers.

Speaker 2 (33:59):
Win it standing all alone and comes across.

Speaker 1 (34:03):
Yeah, that happens like that in the power play, fast man,
great behind the back pass to set this play up
to like this is if you're a hockey fan, I mean,
this is it, man, this is phenomenal stuff. Dry Settle
makes a great play too, puts his puts his skate
in front of his stick on the one time or
so he's able to make sure it doesn't fall off.
Oh my goodness, that was phenomen No, he was anybody

(34:29):
count for the Oilers money. So again, there it is.
Game One goes to Edmonton four to three, just like that. Now,
the biggest story in sports last twenty four hours has
been the Knicks fire Tom Thibodeau and what are they
gonna do next? All the names out there to be
their next head coach, whether it's Stephen A. Smith or
Mark Jackson or Reggie Miller, whoever, all the names out there.

Speaker 2 (34:49):
I will tell you this.

Speaker 1 (34:50):
You want to know when the Knicks are going to
hire their next head coach, I can tell you it's
gonna be a while. If you think this is gonna
happen sometime in the next couple of days that the
Knicks have their next guy lined up, they do not.
This was a reaction to what are they gonna do
following a huge playoff loss that it's impossible to come
back from if you're the coach because of how they

(35:11):
lost Game one unlike any team in the history of
the NBA, and how they're gonna go forward out of this.
They need a fresh start, they need a clean slate.
So we're gonna do it right away. We're not gonna
let them sit around. We're gonna do it right away.

Speaker 2 (35:23):
And the Knicks.

Speaker 1 (35:23):
Now, they're gonna enjoy the moment of way, look at
all these names of who could wind up being the
next Knicks head coach. Right, they're gonna enjoy the fact
that they're a destination now and all the big names
that are thrown out there. They don't have to interview them,
just gonna hear the big names being thrown out there
for a while, right, as long as the Knicks don't
wind up talking to a bunch of people or asking
a bunch of people who say, no, I'm not interested

(35:44):
in even talking to you. But the Knicks are gonna
enjoy that for a little bit. They're gonna figure out
where they want to go. They're gonna see if any
big names come out of the woodwork that maybe, oh hey,
if you work out a trade with my team, I'm
okay coming here. The Knicks are gonna enjoy this moment.
It's gonna be a while before we find out who
the next head go. I don't know that we're gonna
find out who. Any interviews are going to be for

(36:04):
at least the next seven or ten days, it's gonna
be talking about who potentially could be it, who could
potentially be reached out to who may or may not
have been reached out to, with sources familiar with the teams,
thinking like they're going to enjoy this moment a little
bit of a Now now we own the news cycle
the NBA Finals and who's going to be our head coach?
We are a destination. They're gonna milk this for a

(36:25):
while before they because I guarantee you they don't know
who they want. This was we have to move on
from Tibbs, so we're not gonna wait for it, which
was the right move.

Speaker 5 (36:33):
Well, but that goes back to you know, we talked
about with Michael Malone, who's one of the favorites to
come in here, which didn't make any sense, And we
were talking with Mark Stein about that a little bit
yesterday of well, why would you replace Thibodeau with a
guy who had run ins with his players airing them out,
and that Denver, right ahead of the playoffs clapped their

(36:53):
hands and said, hey, good luck here. TIBs gets a
nice giant parachute to go sailing off with the giant
pile of money. But it's all round the yearrors what
we're talking about the math in terms of Dolan's moneies.
But it's also the if you're done with it, don't
drag it out right, because you could have let this
fester for another week or two. Here's our exit interviews,

(37:14):
here's the process. Let's take a look at where we are,
what we can do roster wise, look at money, potential,
free ages, whatever.

Speaker 4 (37:20):
Like.

Speaker 5 (37:20):
No, if fundamentally there was a problem in the building,
you xcize it and you are in a weird position.

Speaker 2 (37:26):
I mentioned Malone. He's one of many guys with championship.

Speaker 5 (37:30):
Or high level pedigree, both collegiately and professionally, that are
on the market. Yeah, not to mention all the guys
from Cleveland and all these other guys who have been
coaches in waiting right for their opportunity. We talked a
lot about Sam Gassell yesterday. You could go grab the
podcast wherever you get to your audio evangelize download to
give it five stars, will love you forever. But you're

(37:51):
in the enviable position of you've got the guy to
run the show in Brunson.

Speaker 2 (37:56):
Now there's all the.

Speaker 5 (37:57):
Reports of hey, we don't want Rick around, we don't
like Rick, and whatever else. In other words, Rick's not
going to be the head coach. You can scratch him
off and don't put him in any of your parlays
for head coaching jobs. But all of that to say,
you have the opportunity to say, all right, here's the base,
what do you want to work with offensive defensive coaches?

Speaker 2 (38:17):
Bring him in, learn what you can through.

Speaker 5 (38:19):
The process, because that's the other part that I don't
think organizations, you know, we sometimes get into the well,
they don't know what they want.

Speaker 2 (38:25):
It's like you don't know. Sometimes still it punches in
the face.

Speaker 5 (38:28):
Oh yeah, And it might take ten guys walking through
with their plans of how they would best utilize what's
on the roster or the Hey, you think we need
one more what that piece is that you haven't really
thought of of how they would work with the other
parts that you've already assembled.

Speaker 2 (38:43):
So yeah, you bring in all these guys best to brand.

Speaker 5 (38:47):
Maybe you can convince Jay Wright to come out of
coaching retirement.

Speaker 2 (38:52):
I need a couple of weeks. We'll give you a
couple of weeks, Jay.

Speaker 5 (38:54):
But I've been a lot of folks that work with it.
I don't think you'll ever coach again. And I'm like, no, said, ever,
here's the.

Speaker 1 (39:00):
Thing, right, it's not just it's gonna be the Knicks
and joining the moment, but for the first time in
a long term, right, usually when NBA jobs come open,
at granted, the Knicks is a little bit more special,
the Lakers will be more special. Generally, it's how many
candidates are there out there, really, right, Like all the
good guys have jobs, and guys don't generally want to
jump from college basketball to the NBA like they did
in years past. And that was the case for a

(39:21):
long time, but now in the last five years, suddenly
it's wait a minute, there's guys out there that have
won NBA titles, that have been to NBA finals, that
have won in college, won championships, that are out there.

Speaker 2 (39:32):
So no one if you don't.

Speaker 1 (39:34):
Know who you want, okay, take your time because you
never know who's going to come through. But also there's
lots of guys with great pedigree out there. It's a
big change, huge change in the NBA landscape compared to
ten years ago.

Speaker 5 (39:45):
Well, and you're not a team that's kind of hiding that.
It's like, all right, I got to do a bunch
of research before I walked to the door. Everybody that's
around the Games, knows what the hell the Knicks were
this year, and I'm sure have their thoughts and are
ready to sit down at a table and.

Speaker 1 (39:58):
Talk exit out about a Rusca exit swollen dome. Jason Smith,
Mike Harmon Live from the Fox Sports Radio Studios. Up next,
