We'll love you forever and ever and ever again. About
ten minutes following our show being over tonight, the Best
(00:52):
of Podcasts goes up. All our big takes on the
Knick's head coaching job, Tyre's Halliburton. This incredibly entertaining Game
four of the Stanley Cup Final. It is all there
right after the show is over and a minute left
to go in Florida, the Panthers, who were up three
nothing after the first period have given the lead away entirely,
(01:15):
and the Oilers, after a go ahead goal with the
six minute mark in the third period, they lead this
now four to three. The Florida net is empty and
the Oilers are It looked like they were dead and
buried and the Stanley Cup Final was over. And I'll
tell you what, live tweeters, not your time, but now
here they are a minute away from evening up the
Stanley Cup Final at two games.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
A lot of cold takes, is that what you're saying?
A lot intended with the ice and they and all
of that fun stuff.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
There's lots of them.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
Yeah, Wallman with the goal, I mean, Kachuck got them
started for Florida. Two goals early. We had the three
nothing lead. I always want to say nil. I'm in
that soccer vein now. And then they battle back and
we're like, all right, we got twenty minutes of great hockey,
and we have We've had a couple of fisticuffs, but
nobody's taking the bait, and then you get the big shot,
(02:05):
create separation. Now the empty net to close it out.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
Now, the big thing from this game, okay, yeah, Game four,
the Stanley Cup Final. Yeah, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelcey
are at the.
Speaker 4 (02:16):
Yeah they are.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
Now this is oh my goodness, the Panthers have just
tied it. Wow, with the with the net empty, a
rebound in front from a near impossible angle. I have
tied this game at for a piece, which is nineteen
seconds left to go in regulation where looks like we're
going to overtime. Taylor Swift and Travis Kelcey are going
(02:40):
nuts now. Now Travis Kelsey is a Blackhawks fan, but
obviously here at the Stanley Cup Final, he's also a
loser bringing a lot. Wow. You know, here's the thing.
You can root against one of the two teams. Okay,
you can't root against both. I do that so I
know you don't like the Oilers. But now it looks okay, okay,
all right, so you're ready for the pan Okay, okay,
(03:01):
making sure you're there, Okay.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
You see the effort as the puck started to scort
towards the corner, the defender on his knees trying to
kick his leg out, hoping, wishing that it catches part.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
Of his skate. Not to be done. Oh my goodness,
impossible angle for four nineteen seconds. Ryan Hart with the
goal to tie it up. We're gonna wind up going
to overtime for the third time in this series. Again,
this is the most entertaining Stanley Cup Final in the
last decade. I mean really, it was insane. I mean,
I don't I don't know what else you want because
(03:33):
the one game that wasn't close you had all those
great fights. So I mean, I don't know what. I
don't know what else you want in the Stanley Cup
Final than this.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
But here's your question now, right, football fans, we saw
the backlash and anger and saltiness. Oh there's that Taylor
Swift again, like our hockey fans like, damn it, They're
gonna pay attention to us tonight because Taylor Swift's at
the game.
Speaker 1 (03:54):
Let's go for us?
Speaker 3 (03:56):
And look, Casual is probably watching, yeah, trying to figure
out what's going on in the hockey world.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
Yeah, and I'm sure there's other people watching it. Now.
Do I like Taylor Swift for being here? Do I
not like her for being here?
Speaker 5 (04:06):
What?
Speaker 1 (04:07):
Celebrate? What do I see? What am I doing? This
is yet another backbreaking moment for Edmonton. Who look, they scored,
they score with nineteen seconds left to go. To tie
Game three, they lose in double overtime. Look, I told
you I firmly expected to be three to one going
back to Edmonton, and they are, you know, dead men walking,
because to come back from something like that is nearly impossible.
(04:31):
But here they are, and they come back from three
zip in game four, only to give up a goal
with nineteen seconds left from a near impossible angle. And again,
I don't know how many how many gut punches can
you recover from? If you're Edmonton, I don't know that
you can. I really know that you can.
Speaker 3 (04:48):
Well, I'm talking about testing human resolve. I mean it
is the best and worst of sports all at the
same time, right to thrill the victory agony of defeat
in that moment. Fortunately it's just an equalizer, uh, and
we have more hockey on the way. But going back
into that, I can't imagine the locker room attendants are
(05:09):
terribly excited about what's about to happen.
Speaker 1 (05:11):
I really I don't, I don't, I don't really I
don't know how you do it. I really I don't
know how you do it. If you Edmonton, you're coming
back from this. But again again, best Stanley Cup Final
last ten years. Yeah, incredibly. I mean, you get three
games in overtime, man, and you had and you had
eleven fights.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
Now, the only thing that really would have been that
next level is if you know Taylor Swift channeled uh
the Prince of Darkness bit the head off a rat
and threw it on the ice or something.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
Oh no, I'm with you there, Yeah, you know what
I mean, went full AlSi paranoid era and bit off
a head of a rat.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
I mean it could be a gummy rat, right, they
sell them, sell you know, novelty candies. Travis Kelsey with
a nice haircut, you know, and.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
Taylor Swift bite it ahead off a rat, chewing it
out and throwing it on the ice. Time out, Paul Maurice,
the Panthers want to talk it over. That's the cover
you never thought you wanted until this moment. I mean,
I mean, really, boy, every game, okay, every game of
the Stanley Cup Final going to overtime or Taylor Swift
(06:21):
biting the head off a live rat like Oziofer two. Yeah, yeah,
I got yeah.
Speaker 3 (06:27):
I mean yeah, we're looking about togetherness. Yeah, okay, I
mean that is even if you don't like her music,
you did you were mad because her tickets to her
concerts were expensive where you had to wait in line
to get a T shirt or whatever else that brings
everybody together. I mean, you want to talk. We talk
about sports bringing people together. Sports plus Taylor Swift and
(06:48):
Rats we win. Yeah, Like, but I also think it
would be fun. Like if Taylor Swift did a contract
and she showed that she had control over the Rats,
she was like a superhero and she could respond and
she to you know, direct them to do things right,
Like suddenly, now it's like, whoa, she's like in the
Marvel Cinematic Universe, she's.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
Rat Swift. But didn't we have one of those in
the DCU control rats? That would be great though. I'd
love to see that. No, you're thinking about the Mummy
when when Arnold Voslu controlled the scarebs that came out
of just with like eight people, Like, yeah he had that. Yeah,
there's rat Catcher. That's it.
Speaker 4 (07:28):
Really.
Speaker 1 (07:29):
Yeah, I thought I was inventing a whole new superhero.
But if it's d C, I may as well invented
because no one's paying attention. Yeah, I mean you may
as well invented. Okay, yeah, you know I mean, it's
not like I came up with the idea for spaceballs too.
So yeah, it's not that it's always been out there
that she's been waiting on it. Exit out bout a
Fresca exit swollen Dome, Jason Smith, Mike Harmon, Yes, we
are headed to overtime Game four of the Stanley.
Speaker 3 (07:52):
Let's go, come on, where at Edmonton nowers?
Speaker 1 (07:58):
So it's tough. I'm like, I always like to be
full of positive. You know, look positivity on a Friday,
But how about positivity Thursday day?
Speaker 4 (08:06):
Right?
Speaker 1 (08:06):
So yeah, around the NFL mandatory mini camps are going on,
coming to an end, right. It's it's been going on
the last few days, and you see a lot of reports,
and you see certain reports of hey, quarterbacks are doing
well here, quarterback's not doing well here. All this let
let me just make everybody feel better. Okay, I'm I
can make every NFL fan feel better right now, shape
(08:28):
of his life, no matter what you have seen over
the course of the last few days, whether you have
I will say this, if your quarterback is struggling throwing
to air, then I raise my hand and go ew Okay,
maybe you don't want to see that, and there have
been a couple of justin fields reports, but more good
justin fields reports. That's the only way I look at
it and go, man, you're if your quarterback is struggling
(08:48):
against it, really struggling, Not like I'm missing a couple
of throws here and there. But generally, this is the
best time of year. It's even it's even better than
training camp because now that there's no games really in
the preseason, we pay attention because the players don't really play.
You don't really get to see anybody. Training camp is
a little bit more stressful than it was in the
past because well, you know, summer's green field can yield
(09:11):
a plethora of it, while well, the summer it's still Hey,
there's hope there for everybody. Ah, you get to start
seeing that maybe our first round pick is not ready,
maybe this is not as good, and you can't really
judge in the games because again, the guys don't play
the mini camps now before they go on vacation. This
is your last hey, era of good feeling until you
(09:32):
come back and the stakes are raised. Right, everybody's going
on vacation. The mini camps are over. They do on
vacation for the next month. You know, the NFL teams
come back, and you know, at about a little bit
over a month from now, and okay, it's like the
end of school. Hey, okay, Scott, summer coming. Hey, but
the fall comes. You're gonna be a junior. You have
the ap classes, whatever it is, the saeam. But enjoy
(09:54):
the month, enjoy the hey, enjoy your junior year. Things
are getting real. You're thinking about college. You know, you're
you're an upper class you really enjoying all this stuff.
But enjoy enjoy your summer vacation, right because then things
get a little bit more serious and the pressure gets
dialed up a little bit. This should be the time
where everybody is enjoying their team. Even the Steelers can
(10:16):
enjoy Aaron Rodgers before he's absolutely terrible and washed and yeah,
I'm sorry, was that? I'm sorry? I want full of positivity. Sorry, buddy,
I should be more positivity. You can enjoy all of
these moments. The Cowboys doesn't jet. Yeah, he's the worst thing.
You added him to the quarterbacks coaches, guy, this guy
(10:38):
is the greatest. He's going to get us to the
super Bowl. You never had it. Cha dropped him like
a bad habit dropped like a bad habit. Good cold,
because I look, he still has the ability, right, he
still has some of the ability, but it's not nearly enough. Right, Like, again,
he still he throws off his back foot all the time,
He throws the ball away when a defender gets close
(10:59):
to him. And while he could still put up some numbers,
is he really going to be the guy that's gonna
take your team? Say, here's your playoff team. No, he's
not right, but yet somehow the Steelers still think he's
the guy.
Speaker 3 (11:10):
But again, no, it's not. Positivity is very crowded and whatever. Like, Look,
I I allowed other shows to do this because I
didn't want to and be I thought it was a
great waste of time in terms of keeping track of
completion percentage during these these workouts. And and everybody can
throw the ball in a country mile. There's very few
(11:31):
quarterbacks that, you know, not under serious duress, can't throw
the ball deep. And those are guys usually coming off
a big shoulder injuries. Sure, we're not expecting that, you know,
we're not expecting.
Speaker 1 (11:42):
Right now, c J. Stroud to go out and rip it.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
We're not expecting now, We're probably not gonna see Anthony
Richardson going out. It's Daniel Jones's time. But all of
that to say, it's it's the fun time.
Speaker 1 (11:54):
Hope. Spring's eternal, right, it's spring training. You know your
team's no good, but you're excited to meet the new guy.
But it's still could be good.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
You never know.
Speaker 1 (12:01):
Way all of a sudden, we caught lightning in a bottle,
and all these guys can be really good. The summer
gets more so look, life gets more stressful early in general,
and and the NFL is really, you know, a mirror
of that. Once the summer starts. New there it's I
want to start seeing progress from my first round pick.
I want to start seeing Hey, my quarterback is having
a big day against the defense, and even if you
want to spend it, well, the defense was great today, Okay,
(12:23):
but the pressure gets there a little bit more. This
is the Let just enjoy mandatory mini camps. If you're
if your quarterback is throwing great, great they should be.
When you're throwing seven on seven and the only equipment
you have as a helmet in the football, you should
be throwing the ball. Well, enjoy that, Enjoy that moment.
Enjoy the enjoy the ride, right, enjoyed. You know, it's
(12:43):
not always about getting to a destination. She gotta enjoy
the the sprinter's mentality. You know it can work at times,
but look, I had a sprinter's mentality when I was
when I was younger, and I realized, Okay, I gotta stop,
I gotta I gotta smell the flowers a little bit more.
I gotta enjoy the jurney a little bit. Enjoy the journey,
Enjoy Mandatory Mini Camp, and joy that you're hearing. You know,
your third round pick has come in and is playing well,
(13:04):
or here's a guy that was undrafted that's really starting
to turn heads. Everybody has that story. Everybody's got stories
like that. Frostbrook and I were talking today. I said
that your Ronde Gadson's been your big star of Mandatory
Mini Camp, and Hardball talked about him for like twenty minutes.
Though you're welcome, Q Show. I mean, there's every team
has story. Enjoy these it gets serious early enough. Enjoy
(13:24):
this time.
Speaker 3 (13:25):
It's all about the good walk and the hard walk
and the young girls you've made cry. It's all about
the little music every day till the.
Speaker 1 (13:32):
Day You die Yi beautiful ride Dewey Cox people. I
like how you and die Yi. You wanted to make
it was part of the part of the lyrics. I
wanted to do it justice.
Speaker 3 (13:44):
Now the only people that are worried are the front
office people and the coaches, because now the guys.
Speaker 1 (13:48):
Will be back on vacation.
Speaker 3 (13:49):
It's the worst time to be pacing around the floor and.
Speaker 1 (13:53):
Enjoy it and joy it. Jason and Mike live from
the Fox Sports Radio Studios. Coming up next, speaking of
a double dose of NFL come in your way. We're
gonna preview what some of the big storylines of this
summer coming up are and how they're gonna end up.
Keep it right here, Jason and Mike, This is Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (14:14):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (14:24):
Fox Sports Radio. Gonna slow it down a little bit here.
This one's for all you lovers. Jason Smith Mike Harmon
live from the Fox Sports Radio Studios. Yeah, Oilers, Oilers
and the Panthers tied at four apiece in overtime, the Panthers,
tying this game with under twenty seconds left to go
(14:46):
on regulation. Sam Ryan Hart scores from a near impossible angle.
So here we play with eighteen and a half to
go in overtime.
Speaker 3 (14:54):
Would that had been far enough for Mike Breen to
give it a double bang?
Speaker 6 (14:58):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (14:58):
Yeah, Well now he's got a double bang everything. Wow,
and mark tape on that. You can use that. Uh
now now he clearly has to double bang everything. So now,
yes about triple bang? Uh we get triple bang. You
save for triple overtime. We save it for Jason Cole
joining us now in the hotline as we take a
(15:19):
look at what is coming up in the NFL. It
is longtime NFL insider. You can read him on the
thirty third team. He is a Hall of very Good
voter for a long time. He has been a very good,
Hall of very Good voter. He's on Twitter at Jason
Cole sixty two. What's happening about? How are you man?
Speaker 5 (15:38):
Which being a Hall of Fame voter or six coach? Which?
Which is? Which is a better jobs?
Speaker 1 (15:46):
Breaking news? Right now? I could tell you people who
I know that a Hall of Fame voters, I can't
tell you who the head coach of the Knicks.
Speaker 5 (15:52):
Is could be next?
Speaker 1 (15:55):
Well, it's tell you it's his birthday today. You put
some respect on that name.
Speaker 4 (16:01):
He might turn the job down to Okay, okay, when
you fired.
Speaker 5 (16:06):
When you fired somebody, generally you have to have an idea,
especially when you when you fire somebody who's actually good. Okay,
you should know the next person is that you're gonna hire.
Speaker 1 (16:18):
Difference okay, difference in the Cowboys record this year if
Jerry Jones is running the team or if Grimas was
running the team.
Speaker 4 (16:29):
Zero zero, same record, same record.
Speaker 5 (16:32):
Okay, actually, you know what, I take that back. They'd
be better with Grimace, all right, because Grimmas would not
do postgame preps conferences.
Speaker 4 (16:43):
In the locker room, have.
Speaker 5 (16:47):
The good sense to not interfere with the head coach.
Speaker 7 (16:52):
He would just wave, drinking a Grimace shake it, put
his arm around Shot and Himer for some pictures that
he would wave to the kids, and you would see
him on Tuesday.
Speaker 5 (17:03):
Nod his head one way or the other. Yeah, I'll
be good. I'll be good. You know here, Hey, Brian,
go for it.
Speaker 3 (17:14):
Well, Dak says he's super excited to play for Shottenheimer.
Speaker 1 (17:17):
Yeah, that was great. That was actually the chiron and
the and the quote.
Speaker 5 (17:20):
Yeah, but the questions is he playing for him or
just be playing with him?
Speaker 1 (17:27):
However long he's here. I enjoyed playing for him.
Speaker 5 (17:30):
Because, yeah, Dak is playing quarterback and he's playing coach.
He's not really coach, He's just playing coach. Let's let's face.
Speaker 1 (17:41):
Do you see a scenario for the Cowboys to have
success this year? Do you see any any way they
can they can find some sort of hey wow, this
went completely opposite of how we thought it was going to.
Speaker 5 (17:53):
They have good players. I mean, they do have their
players two years ago. There a couple of years ago
under McCarthy a pretty good team. I mean like they
could win ten eleven games. Yeah, that could happen. They
could even make the playoffs. They have enough talent. Are
they really gonna win anything? No, it is not going
(18:14):
to happen. It's just like you've got you've got you
know how Doy Doty coaching them. You've got you know,
you've got the evil character, a wide receiver in George Pickens,
who there's no way Shottenheimer can ever handle him. There's
not like if Mike Tomlins said, no, I can't do
(18:37):
this with George Pickens. What do you think the shop?
What shot does Brian Shottenheimer have really Like, let's let's
really think about this one. And yes, Pickens has lots
of motivation to be good this year. He's got a
contract year. He's got to play nice, he's got to
do all those other things. He's just too emotionally, he's
(18:59):
too emotionally corrosive to be helpful in that for that team,
they're just they're just done with them. Like again, the Steelers,
they knew all of these things about George Dickens and
they still traded him. So he's going to let them
down somewhere in some critical moment. But they've still got
ceedee lamb. You know, they've still got you know, Dak,
(19:20):
and they've still got the semblance of an offensive line.
You know, it's taking a step backwards, but it's they
have assemblance of an offensive line. And that's got some
guys on defense who are really good. You know, start
with if you start with Michael Parsons, you can do
a lot of things.
Speaker 1 (19:35):
One of those and maybe Hamburglar too.
Speaker 5 (19:39):
Grevis was at the owner's box, sitting next to Steven
and Jerry Junior. Could did you see that? Like if
they were panning to them during the game and Grimace
was sitting there instead of Jerry. What'd just so much happen?
Speaker 1 (19:56):
I got a pigeon with a big cowboys head, and
he's got a big.
Speaker 7 (19:59):
Shake in his.
Speaker 5 (20:06):
Cowboys owner's back, and even even the cowboy Bees would
be happier.
Speaker 1 (20:13):
Really, escalator, quickly, you got cowboy be shake coming up here.
That's a part part purple flavor and part honey flavor.
Speaker 5 (20:21):
And we get so much more on the show here,
and I'm just gonna have to take a step back
from the operations where do here?
Speaker 1 (20:32):
Grima's just the bashing of positive Well, you mentioned the
Steelers eight and a half the total Jason as soon
as Rogers was no longer a Jet, He's buried him
and says he's got nothing left and it's all going
to fail and blow up in Tomlin's face and cause
and cause him to lose his job.
Speaker 5 (20:49):
I'm bet for victory, That's what I'm betting. I'm free
from the.
Speaker 1 (20:55):
Jets ex jet now good, yeah.
Speaker 5 (20:59):
Well very much. I mean like he played for the
Steelers and and the Packers now two of the most
story franchises. And then there's the Jets.
Speaker 1 (21:15):
Are you really trying to sell me that you're really
trying to sell me that with Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 5 (21:21):
I'm trying to tell you that they have a really
great evense, which they do. They'll figure it out with
he with with Watt, that would be fine, right, TJ's
gonna play. They'll somehow pay him more money if you had.
You know, they were decent last year with Russell Wilson.
I still think that Aaron Rodgers is better than Russell Wilson. Yeah.
(21:45):
I don't like the fact that he wasn't there during
the offseason, But I think the fact that now everybody
knows he got married, I think everybody looks that good.
Oh yeah, I get it. I get why he wasn't here.
I can understand that, and so that that will leaves
some of the ill will that he was building up with,
(22:06):
you know, the organization, not just the fans and not
just all the media who's like questioning whether he's into
this or not. But it's all of a sudden, Oh yeah,
I got Now. It's still not a great situation from
a do you actually know the guys that you're playing
with you you know the timing, you have everything down.
No it doesn't work out. But again, this was a
(22:27):
team that was competitive last year when they just had
Russell Wilson out there and and Aaron Rodgers. I truly
believe it is still better than Russell Wilson, A lot better, debatable,
but the better. Again, it's the Grimis concept.
Speaker 3 (22:46):
See it all coming back to Grimm's Pilot's stay in division.
Speaker 1 (22:50):
What happens in Cincinnati?
Speaker 4 (22:52):
What breaks everything?
Speaker 1 (22:55):
Okay?
Speaker 5 (22:55):
Wow, the Bengals like and they had all the hope
for a couple of years. You know, got Burrow, We'll
get Chase, We've got weapons, we get everything, and then
it's like, oh yeah, we don't want to sign our
best defensive player. We don't want to pay him. Why
because the owner is cheap and so at the end
of the day, as much as Henderson has played really
(23:17):
hard and deserves another contract, you know, Mike Brown wants.
Speaker 4 (23:21):
To be.
Speaker 5 (23:24):
You know, he just wants to be so cheap for
no reason. You've got to reward guys who play that hard.
You want to reward your own guys, especially when you're
a team that doesn't play free agency right like you
don't go out and spend on guys a lot. You
want to spend on guys who are in house and
(23:46):
who's been more productive for them. Our granted, the defense
still was terrible last year, and Hendrickson was allowed to
just you know, to do what he wanted essentially, but
he did it. He was he was the only break
spot on a horrible defense. So why aren't you paying
(24:06):
him when you're paying Higgins, Chase and Burrow. Arguably he's
better than he's better than Higgins. Certainly in the player
he's more important. Now He's not better better than Chase
than Burrow, but he's better than Higgins and Haigen's got paid.
Speaker 1 (24:24):
Jason Colard, guest Jason Smith, Mike Carbon live from the
Fox Sports Radio studios. All right, so so help us
here right now, if you had a crystal ball, and
I can say, going into week one of the season,
the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns is who and
you can't say Brian Sipe.
Speaker 5 (24:48):
Though it really is. I like the type choice, and
do I not get that one of the choice.
Speaker 1 (24:54):
The cardiac kids. I mean, I love the cardiac kids,
but I mean I you know, Pipe is in his seventies, now.
Speaker 5 (25:00):
Yeah, for Brian's out there, Bernie Cossar, I'll bet Bernie.
Speaker 4 (25:06):
Coster, Bernie Kozar, Yeah.
Speaker 5 (25:10):
I heard my he was just in a hospital bed
in it. But a picture of him that that qualifies
him to be the Brown the Browns quarterback at this point.
Speaker 1 (25:21):
Brian Sipe is seventy six. Seventy six. I'm glad he's
he's the same age as Joe Flacco.
Speaker 5 (25:28):
You have like Richard Dawson right there. So when you
were doing match game, hell, I love yeah, exactly, he's
seventy six, So.
Speaker 8 (25:43):
Uh, the Browns quarterback is going to be blank parent,
put you down, Brown, you're lording over him with the
giant stick microphone.
Speaker 5 (25:56):
I wish I could do a really great Charles Nelson Riley.
Speaker 1 (26:00):
Man, you'll have to work on that for next week.
I can't keep explaining the gen xers who Charles Nelson
Riley is.
Speaker 5 (26:08):
We don't have that time, we really nor do we
really want to spend any time more time on Charles
Nelson Riley. Who is the woman who's sat next to
Charles Brett Summers.
Speaker 4 (26:22):
Brett Summers, Oh that's a good one.
Speaker 1 (26:26):
Yeah, Brett Summers.
Speaker 4 (26:27):
Okay, okay, yeah, Dawson.
Speaker 5 (26:30):
Richard Dawson used to flirt with her all the time.
He flirted with everybody but including Charles Milton Ley. But
I don't know, Oh yeah, all that all that for you.
Speaker 3 (26:43):
To say, I don't know what that was analysts for you.
It's like he's on the floor of Congress. You dance
with you dance.
Speaker 1 (26:50):
With Charles Nelson, Riley and Brett Summers and Richard Dawson
and Jean Rayburn and all crazy ass stuff, and you
give me a I don't know what the hell?
Speaker 4 (26:57):
Man?
Speaker 5 (27:00):
Hey, I'll what odds do I get on Shad Sanders.
Speaker 1 (27:04):
I'll give you a grade on zan Door Sanders. I'll
tell you this. I think we go into we go
into week one, Joe Flacco is the unquestioned number one,
and Sanders is the number two. And Sanders starts by
the beginning of October.
Speaker 5 (27:18):
Why do you ask? Why do you ask me if
you thought it was unquestioned? Why would you Why are
you asking me a question that you already have an
answer to, Like, I don't understand that you have a plan.
Just state your plan. I don't get this at all.
This is this is the kind of week thinking that
goes along with being a Jets fan.
Speaker 6 (27:33):
I do.
Speaker 2 (27:35):
You know yes or no?
Speaker 1 (27:37):
Yes or no? Would this conversation be going better if
I was talking to Grimace instead of you.
Speaker 5 (27:42):
You know, because I'm going to ask him a question
and try to be evasive about the answer, and because
I want to set it up. Oh no, this is
what I think. We'll just say the first place.
Speaker 1 (27:52):
Tell me what you think. You tell me you think
I agree, because look I'm right about most things, or
you disagree. Or if you think mayor mcchee should be
the quarterback, do that's.
Speaker 5 (28:01):
What really you should do? Take a stand, and I'm
going with Sanders right there. It's a pal.
Speaker 1 (28:09):
See Was that that difficult? Was that that hard to
come up with your door? Sanders?
Speaker 4 (28:12):
Was it that hard?
Speaker 5 (28:15):
The only difficult part was trying to talk over you
for the entire time.
Speaker 1 (28:20):
He's on Twitter at Jason Cole sixty two and is
at Jason Cole sixty two check him out of the
thirty thirteam. Jacob, see you, Yeah, you're the best.
Speaker 3 (28:31):
Let's see it. Jacob to talk to you later at
Jason Cole sixty two on Twitter. Wow, oh boy, I
talk it over you.
Speaker 1 (28:41):
I'll tell you all. I think we just had a
game winning goal in overtime. Let's get the latest from
Monsie Belangios, who has what's trending in the wide world
of sports.
Speaker 9 (28:54):
Yeah, it looks like Edmonton has tied the series five
zero in overtime and Florida had control of the game
in this extra period. It felt like we were just
waiting for Florida to score. Edmonton pulls it off. What
a comeback. Florida scored three goals in the first period.
Matthew could Chuck scored two of those three. Then Edmonton
responded with three goals in the second period, and it
(29:16):
went back and forth really until Florida even tied the
game with nineteen seconds in regulation heading into overtime, and
Edmonton officially wins it five to four. So this Stanley
Cup Final, it's tied at two apiece. This game delivered.
If you were watching from the beginning, it was exciting.
Taylor Swift couldn't believe the overtime. She was patting her
(29:37):
chest because her heart was going was racing, and you
can see the video on social media.
Speaker 2 (29:41):
Oh what a game.
Speaker 9 (29:42):
Also, it looked like a Wayne Gretzky was sitting next
to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelcey. So what a trio there?
Speaker 1 (29:48):
Hey, get down there. We need game, Yes, exactly, we
need a photo op. So get down there.
Speaker 4 (29:55):
Absolutely.
Speaker 9 (29:56):
NFL News. Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said today
that he's optimistic a deal is gonna get done with
linebacker TJ. Watt, who skipped mandatory minicamp because he wants
a new deal. You guys were talking about the Bengals
well first round pick, their first round pick defensive, and
Shamar Stewart did leave Cincinnati without a deal, as he
remains one of four first round picks to be unsigned.
(30:17):
In baseball, the Mets have won six in a row.
They defeated the Nationals four to three, but Coda Sanga
is headed to the i L after injuring his hamstring
today on a bad throw by Pete Alonzo.
Speaker 2 (30:29):
Well what do you think of that?
Speaker 1 (30:30):
Okay, First of all, Senga said he felt the hamstring
before he jumps, So there's that. Whether he's telling the
truth or not, that's the story I'm going with. Well,
here's not going to blame Pete Alonzo, who's leading the
majors in RB.
Speaker 9 (30:43):
I hear you. I also think if running and jumping
is something you can do, we've got a different problem.
Speaker 1 (30:47):
Yeah, but it just goes jump.
Speaker 3 (30:51):
But does this cost ped Alonso a long term contract
extension from the Mets.
Speaker 7 (30:55):
Eight, again again leading the league in RBL.
Speaker 1 (31:02):
Body taking out the leading candidate for Cy Young.
Speaker 9 (31:07):
All right, The Tigers did beat the Orioles four to one.
Trek schoobl pitched seven shutout innings, giving up just three
hits and striking out six. The Yankees edge the Royals
one zero, and the Cubs defeated the Pirates three to two,
and an NBA news well, ESPN reports the teams are
motivated to do a deal for suns Ford Kevin Durant,
and then a deal is likely to be done.
Speaker 2 (31:27):
Sooner rather than later.
Speaker 1 (31:29):
Back to you, guys, I'm already fitting him out in
the Nick uniform. Is already gonna happen, Arena, who are
you gonna trade?
Speaker 2 (31:36):
Who're gonna get rid of?
Speaker 1 (31:37):
Probably cat? That sounds about right. It's gonna happen. Just
say it's a fade a complete. The Knicks are gonna
somehow get Kevin Durant. That's that's where it's gonna.
Speaker 3 (31:47):
Hey, we could use that discount you had for a
Durant Knicks jersey where.
Speaker 1 (31:52):
It's gonna go. That's right, that's right. Thanks the game
winning goal, well, he celebrates finishing second. He did not
win the hart Trow MVP today because Connor Hellibuk then
showing you that the Heart Trophy and Vesna Trophies are
regular season awards. He wins both. You don't see that
that often be on dry Sidle finished second, but I
(32:12):
think he'll take that. With his game winning goal in overtime,
he was trying to shovel a pass and the puck
banged off a defenseman skate and threw Bebrowski's legs and
and that's the game winning goal. Like it wasn't even
something that was a shot. It was a one handed
shovel pass as they came in on a break, hits
the defenseman skate deflex into the net and now we
(32:33):
have a two to two series.
Speaker 3 (32:34):
Gets across to dry Sidle and he's getting challenged hard
by Greer, so it's like a one hand kind of
push towards the towards the net and finds its way
to the to the back. Unbelievable again, best Stanley Cup
final in the last decade in the last that.
Speaker 1 (32:52):
Was like shuffle board, the way he pushed that the
puck across. I'm gonna go with the third best. Uh fourteen? Yes, ok,
twenty fourteen. Okay, you realize it's twenty twenty five. He's
going to celebrate the hell out of Justin Williams's long
lay can So if you go I celebrate Justin Williams too.
That's mister game seventy. So if you go back, it's
twenty fifteen, twenty twelve and twenty fourteen. A decade is
(33:15):
ten years, it's twenty twenty five. Subtract ten from twenty five.
What do you get? Could be three, it's no big deal.
Even Tyser knows tysher. When you subtract ten from twenty
twenty five, what do you get fifteen? See there you go? Okay,
So twenty fifteenth, So we're going back to twenty fifteen
coming in twenty five cents. Hey, there's another team that
(33:37):
wishes they could go back to twenty fifteen. That's coming
up next right here, Chasing and Mike Fucks.
Speaker 2 (33:42):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific, The.
Speaker 1 (33:49):
Jason Smith Show is my best friend Mike Harmon muchaba
and again got to see my favorite tradition in all
of hockey, in all of sports. Your favorite when the
visiting team scores a game winning goal in overtime. Yeah,
and the fans who just don't want to leave because
they're just stunned, need a few minutes.
Speaker 5 (34:10):
Yea.
Speaker 1 (34:11):
They just sit in their seats and don't move. I
love that. That's not even an avoid traffic move. That
is just the what did I just see? Why you're
replaying it in your head. I can't stand up right now.
I am not I don't know what's going where. I'm
just gonna sit here for a few minutes and and
take this in. I mean, I love that because I've
lived that as a as a sports fan, and that's
(34:31):
my FA. I forget about the handshakes at the end. Yeah,
that's great. No, when the fans just sit there and go,
what the blank just happened? Man, I am not good
right now. You do that a few times in studio,
and then you had to talk and open mouth and
say thanks.
Speaker 3 (34:44):
It became a very interesting proposition. But no, we certainly
watched that tonight. The agony, the ecstasy, You got it
all in this game.
Speaker 1 (34:54):
It was fantastic. So earlier today Christian Polistics started making
some headlines. Right US men's national team star who is
not playing with the team and the Gold Cup wanted
time off at the end of a long season. Couple
other star players wanted time off as well. The Canada
coach today, who never misses an opportunity to troll the
United States, said, none of my players ever said they
(35:15):
wanted time off. They're already for the Gold Cup. He
goes on a podcast and he talks about how the
criticism that he got in the past couple of days
from Landon Donovan, other former US men's national team stars
that said, hey, guys got to be playing when it's
Gold Cup with the World Cup just around the corner.
He's not a big fan of what people are saying.
(35:35):
He gets it, but thinks it's a little out of line.
Speaker 6 (35:38):
I mean, when it comes to those guys, it's I
don't know, I guess it is. It is tough because
I you know, I looked up to those guys growing up.
Some of these guys are my idols, and you know,
I respect them so much as players, and it's tough,
especially when you know some of them as well, even
you know privately, the way they can, you know, the
way they talk to me and clearly want to show support.
Speaker 2 (35:58):
And you know, be a friend and everything.
Speaker 6 (36:00):
And then and then it goes and they say something
slightly different publicly, and that's that's fine.
Speaker 2 (36:05):
You know, of all things.
Speaker 6 (36:06):
You can talk about my performances whatever you want, but
to question my commitment, especially towards the national team, in
my opinion, that's that's a way out of line.
Speaker 1 (36:14):
You that's strong right there, that's strong right there. Hey, listen,
I mean this, this is this is Captain America, right.
This is a guy that's been supposed to be the
leader of US soccer for the last decade. You took
the super serum, you took the challenge. Look, come on, man.
We talked about the problem with you with the US
m n T. And there absolutely is some kind of
disconnect between the players in US soccer, right, whether it's
(36:35):
how they feel about Marisio Pochettino, how they felt about
what happened with Burholter, whatever it was, there's some kind
of disconnect when the best players aren't playing when the
World Cup is next year and again Canada, Hey, none
of our players said they didn't want to Cup. They
were all ready to be here to play, right, we
want you an old drag his ass sign down the
field and he finally is he had to drag, literally
drag his leg off. So it's it's taken me a
(36:59):
day thinking about this and and breaking it down as
to what it reminkeds, because it was something one of
those things like that's something I feel like a detective
where things are riding around in my head and then
I have that moment of clarity, You're like, yes, this
is this is really what it comes down to, your
Daniel moment When I when I hear Polistic talk about
this and hear the other players give reasonings for not
for not wanting to play and how it's been a
long season and playing elsewhere, I go back to this.
(37:23):
This generation of US men's players were made stars before
they had earned it. Right, Policic came up and boy,
hey he's the best player we have had. And he
was anointed right away as being he's gonna be the
guy that leads US soccerrate other guys as well. But
what do we get when when you get anointed and
(37:44):
this group of players, whether it's Robinson, whoever else you
know you know yet Peppi in here as well, and
now Raina, when you get anointed, you're supposed to be great,
and everybody thinks you're without having earned it. It's kind
of difficult to find the mindset to grow and to
understand how to lead when you're told you're a star
way early, right. I always say this, this is guys
(38:06):
like Miles Austin happened to in the NFL, Matt Harvey
in Major League Baseball. He was the dark Knight before
really accomplished anything, and he never really got what it
meant to be a leader and to understand this is
how you have to carry yourself as a professional. Like
this is still there's stupid stuff. This is just stupid
knucklehead stuff that goes on. There's always knucklehead stuff off
the pitch with players, whether it's rain and his parents
(38:29):
and Burholt or Polisic is feuding with Landon Donovan, like
you gotta fight, you gotta understand, you gotta earn this,
and I don't know that that the young group, this
young group that's supposed to come together and eventually cut
through for the United States. They've never earned it. But
when you're annointed to star early, well, okay, I've made
the shortcut now to being a star. So I don't
need to play all the time. I don't need to
(38:51):
play for the US men's team every time I at
the beck and call. I can fight with other people,
and I can fight with who I want to be
the coach, and I can play flat at times and
play inspired other times. When you don't earn it, this
is what happens.
Speaker 3 (39:03):
Oh, and I mean we can extend that beyond the
world of the US men's national team. And I'm sure
there are a lot of people driving around not in
their heads, maybe staring in the rear view mirror at
their kids and expectations for short cuts. But you know,
all the publicly they're going to say this. They have to, right,
it's the defense of the squad that they fought for,
(39:24):
that they tried to build up and thought they were
setting the table for whether it was Alexei Lalas or
Landon Donovan. And privately, yeah, they've got your back. They
want you to be the best version of yourself it
can be. But you know what you have to do
to be that guy. You have to show up. Not
playing in these is telling them, whether you like to
admit it or not, to some degree, you're not invested.
(39:46):
I'll get there when I get there is not an answer. No,
this is knucklehead and stuff. And it sounds like kids, right,
and you wonder why we lose? You wondered to grow
up pair.
Speaker 1 (39:55):
Coming up next, we get back into a big story
out of the NBA. Keep it right here, Jason, like Fox,
