Speaker 1 (00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
Antelanios Greetings, Welcome in side hour to the Jason Smith
Show with my best friend Mike Harmon, live from the
Fox Sports Radio Studios.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
Business fluctuations make running your manufacturing business complex, but staffing
your business doesn't have to be. Let Express Employment Professionals
provide the workforce you need. Go to expresspros dot com
to find the location near you that is Expresspros dot com. Well,
I don't know if you know this, Mike Harmon, but
I am from the future. You're from the future. I
(01:01):
am from the future, and I have come here to
make sure people understand that when by and we say
things about sports and it comes true. Hey, I'm from
the future. Welcome to the future, where the present is
the past. Let's go Hey a cart Welcome to the future. Wow,
get me, Lieutenant Eckhart. They had a good run. That
(01:24):
guy had a really good run. That actor, he was
a lot of stuff.
Speaker 4 (01:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
Yeah, Star Wars and yeah that was Porkins. Yeah, it
was Porkland's stay on target. No Porkins, Porkins.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
Right now, five and a half to go in the
fourth quarter, Steelers trail the Bengals thirty to twenty four.
They are facing a fourth and four. Aaron Rodgers wants
to go for it, but it looks like Mike Tomlin
is pulling the offense off the field.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
Wow. I don't know. Tomlin and Rodgers are gonna love
each other after this. Yeah, because their defense has stopped
the Bengals all night.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
Yeah, I know huge. This is what I mean when
I say I am from the future. From October seventh,
when the Bengals got Joe Flacco in trade from the Browns,
I said, and we talked about it on the show,
and it's on Twitter. The proof is there. I never
say stuff as long as if the proof isn't there.
Joe Flacco's impact on the Bengals will be immediate and terrific,
(02:18):
like he was with the Browns in twenty twenty three,
he Chase Higgins and Brown will light it up. Now, Well,
here is Joe Flacco. Game two after learning all his
teammates names, was still not bad last week Tonight Tonight
Joe Flacco quarterback rating of one ten, two hundred and
eighty one yards passing and three touchdowns. What about Jamar
(02:41):
Chase you might ask? Fourteen for one twenty eight in
a touchdown. T Higgins five for sixty eight in a touchdown.
Chase Brown his first good game of the year. He
has run for one hundred yards. I am from the future.
I am your Joe Flacco Bengals whisperer.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
That is me.
Speaker 1 (02:59):
He didn't even need this. Trey Hendrickson, No, no, hey,
show up Trey Hendrickson. I don't know if he's gonna
play again. For the got of a question, right, I
got his extra fourteen million dollars for you, righty here?
But did you win tonight? You think about keeping them right?
You're three and four? You figure, hey, we just beat
the Steelers. Can we can still make things happen here
in the division Burrow? Hopefully we'll come back at some point.
(03:21):
But we feel really good after tonight. But that's thing, right,
you're looking at a squad. Remember those two wins. We
talked about it last night. You had those two wins.
Were they pretty?
Speaker 5 (03:28):
No?
Speaker 1 (03:29):
But you walked away with those. Joe Burrow, whether he's
going to be available or not, the division right now stinks.
The Steelers four and one coming into this game, the
Joe Flacco ghost, as it were, coming after Mike Tomlin
and he got him right, long extended history that they have.
Ravens are still trying to search for answers. They've got
(03:50):
a bye week this week, but then the Bears go
to town and I'll be there for that one. How
many of those guys are back in healthy? No idea?
Speaker 2 (03:58):
Yeah? Right?
Speaker 1 (03:59):
And then Lamar Jack what percentage on his power meter
is he at if he tries to give it the
old college try? And then the Browns are the Browns,
so we got that going for him. So the division
is there to go and battle and fight for. And
the biggest thing, and the stat that I circle immediately
is Joe Flacco completions attempts. All that's finding good. The
(04:21):
yardage he might take, hit, the over three touchdowns. He's
only been sacked once. I know toothybody's getting rid of
the ball, both he and Rogers getting rid of the
ball early. And a couple of plays I think a
couple of fades that he has thrown, a couple of
quick plays he has thrown maybe an extra split second,
an extra second waiting for to develop. He might have
been able to hit, but it's hard to argue at
(04:42):
two eighty one and three touchdowns and you're turning all
the weapons back into weapons again. He's put it on
chase a couple of times pretty fast. We're like, all right,
do we really count down as a drop because he
really didn't get his head around. He gets his hands
on it, but he's really just getting into his break.
But either way, it's just been impressive and they're just
showing the stat TJ. Watt with just a single pressure.
So the much maligned Cincinnati offensive line doing a hell
(05:05):
of a job for the geriatric Joe Flacco, who I
want his arm, man, You see hot itit's the icy
hot ball with Flacco and Rogers. This is great because look,
if you've seen Rogers be able to dance and going
laterally right doing that thing Patrick Mahomes had to do
against the Buccaneers, and so we got that part of
his body. But we know Joe Flacco's arm works. So
if we can voltron something together, we really we could
(05:28):
keep these guys playing forever. I'm telling you that Joe
fla Flacco's like Testaverdi, like when Vinnie Testaverdi was starting
at forty three years old for the Panthers, Like after
his run with the Jets when he was forty nine.
He's done, like he won a game at forty three,
because no one throws a prettier deep ball like Flacco's
like testa Verdi, except with a little bit better of
a career because he got a Super Bowl. He's got.
But like that's kind of Joe Flacco, Like you see him.
(05:50):
Everybody thought he was done, and you see now there's
like two or three teams since he left the Ravens
that hey, he's done pretty well with. Of course the
Jets the only one he didn't do well with because
the Jets can't do anything for anybody. But uh, I mean, look,
this is this is Joe Flacco just scrambling for a
first down. Yes, I mean Joe fleeting bootleg Joe Flack.
Joe Flacco just went about fifteen yards for a first
(06:12):
down to keep the chains moving. Five minutes left to
go on crowd, I mean everywhere he's gone, really, I
mean tom And they just showed a great shot of Tomlin,
who's like what just he's to watching the replay, like really,
what just happened? He may hurt Andrew Berry.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
Oh, he might hurt him.
Speaker 1 (06:32):
I don't I don't want to ask Mike Tomlin a
question the postgame Prescott No, no, no, I'm come up and sit.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
Down and go any questions.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
Uh no, but they got it.
Speaker 2 (06:39):
You go have a good day.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
You hold up a picture of Andrew Berry like Sally Field,
this son, that's a.
Speaker 2 (06:45):
Strike, like you know.
Speaker 1 (06:46):
But Flacco goes to the Broncos. It doesn't work out.
You think, okay, he's done, he's a backup now the
rest of his career doesn't work out with the Jets.
But then he goes to the Browns. Hey brown showed clearly,
hey I still got it a little bit right, you
can still play a little bit. All right, Great, and
then comes back again to the Browns. Okay, I'm gonna
start this year and things didn't go great, but okay,
I get traded to the Bengals now, who have a
(07:07):
lot of weapons, because remember the Browns weapons.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
Aren't that great. They're starting over it.
Speaker 1 (07:10):
Then they got two rookies running the two rookie running backs,
and Jerry Judy is not the guy he was last year,
and he's heard more talent. Whether he's going to be
available the next week or two is a question too.
Speaker 2 (07:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (07:19):
But now he goes to a team with a great
wide receiver, two great wide receivers, probably maybe the best
one to two wide receivers in the NFL, and a
pretty good running back who's had a bad time of
it so far, and all of a sudden, here come
the Bengals, Here comes Joe Flacco. It's fantastic. I told
you the real question.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
I am from the future.
Speaker 1 (07:38):
Ye big question.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Yes, Joe Burrow get his job back? No he doesn't. No,
no Joe Burrow.
Speaker 1 (07:42):
I mean, I don't want to say a player can
lose his job because of an angel.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
Yeah, no, no, no, Joe.
Speaker 1 (07:48):
Joe Flacco's elite. If I was, if I was Zach Taylor,
I would just keep saying Joe is the quarterback when
everybody's healthy. That's why I would say Joe is a quarterback.
So Jake is not did I didn't say Jake, I
just said Joe. Joe is the quarterback, but which I'm
just saying Joe is the quarterback. That's pretty good. Now
we'll have more on the show. M djo the musician
(08:10):
that whose also name is Joe. Yeah, there's that? Or really, really,
if you're Joe Carrey, don't you just change you name
to Steve? Dims Ever just calls him Steve anyway, e
hevery just calls them Steve.
Speaker 2 (08:21):
Heanks Steve. Steve's the best, Steve's the best show's in
town next week.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
So a big story today out of the NFL, which
I gotta say makes me think about doing things better
for US football fans. The highest rated game of the week,
A whopping twenty six million people watch the Bucks and
the forty nine Ers on CBS Sunday, a right most
watch NFL game of the weekend by far. It was
(08:47):
the best Week six audience CBS had in over almost
twenty years. Like, so many people watch this game. Now,
I'm gonna give credit before I say, Okay, let's do better,
You're gonna curse. How does that game get away from five?
Speaker 5 (08:59):
No?
Speaker 1 (08:59):
No, no, The flexible scheduling worked well because you know, CBS
had the Patriots Saints game in there a couple of
weeks ago, and it's like, oh man, yeah, okay, the
pager's a little bit better, but come on, man, nobody
wants to see that. Hey, Specier Rattler can wing it. Yeah,
so you put it until Tyler Shuck gets the job.
But uh, okay, but yeah, nobody wants to see that. Yeah,
we'd rather have Tampa Bay and Baker Mayfield as fine,
(09:19):
the forty nine ers or the forty nine ers, let's
put that game in there, right, So I give CBS
a lot of credit the flexible scheduling that you can
do a couple of weeks in advance. Now, that's awesome, right,
it's awesome. But I gotta say this, and this makes
me think the NFL could do things better. Why did
so many point? Was this because so many people wanted
to see Baker Mayfield, so many people wanted to see
Matt Jones play quarterback.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
No, they were three late games on Sunday. Game one
Titans Raiders, even the local markets, No one's watching that right,
Game two Bengals Packers. Okay, Jordan Love is good. The
Packers are good. Micah Parsons, No one's going crazy to
see that game. And Joe Flacco's first game with the
Bengals was that really gonna be mussy team now? Might
(10:00):
be mussy now after this game.
Speaker 1 (10:01):
But I can see why everybody, of course went to
the Bucks in the forty nine.
Speaker 5 (10:07):
Right.
Speaker 2 (10:07):
Okay, we have the heritage teams, we have the quarterback
that we like. I get it.
Speaker 1 (10:12):
But this is where the NFL like, you know what,
everybody doesn't have to play at one o'clock ten o'clock
on the West Coast.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
Too many teams play.
Speaker 1 (10:19):
You don't need to have the entire slate play at
one o'clock and then have three games at four, right,
because number one, football fans, you want to be able
to see the most of every game you can. Doesn't
need to be eight games at one o'clock and three
games at four o'clock. As the season goes on, you
get to the end of the year to just about
everybody play it at one o'clock because of the weather
and the wind and everything else. Yeah, okay, so there's
(10:40):
less four o'clock games. You know, you don't want to
play games in the icy, cold wind, and snow. I
understand that in November and December, well the weather is
still nicey. How about you split the schedule up a
little bit, right? How about how about you have that
you have the one o'clock games, you have, you have
a decent amount of one o'clock games. You have half
the slate play at one, half the slate play at four.
Just give us a couple more options. Because you had
(11:01):
a couple of West Coast teams playing on the East
Coast that they're playing at one o'clock, and I'm like, okay,
Chargers didn't need to play at one o'clock. Could have
played that game at four o'clock.
Speaker 5 (11:09):
Right.
Speaker 1 (11:09):
A couple of teams the Rams need to play at
one o'clock could have played that game at four o'clock.
Speaker 5 (11:13):
Right.
Speaker 1 (11:13):
Not that it's you want to take away advantages disadvantages.
It is tougher for a team to travel three thousand
miles and play early, but overall, like, I think you're
opening up the viewing process a little bit more by
splitting the schedule up. I think that's something the NFL
needs to look into. It's like, all for you know,
thirty years, it's been most of the games at one,
(11:34):
we got a few at four o'clock, the four o'clock games,
the games everybody watches, right, everybody's in on those games, right,
So I get this and I go, all right, so
why don't you just do something else that can help
the fans a little bit by splitting up the games
and not just hey, we have three games at four
o'clock and because really people watch Tampa and the Bucks
(11:55):
because there was nothing else to work, you know, would
have been great one of those Monday night games would
have been in that. Sure could have done that too, sure,
I mean, because look, you're fixed forever with the There's
gonna be an international game every week soon enough, so
I mean you're gonna have that six thirty nine to
thirty start all the time. We've got a Thursday football.
But yeah, it's it's long been a vexing thing right
(12:16):
where you've got that overload in the morning. I mean
there's there's not enough boxes on your screen. I mean
they look like little pong characters running around no matter
how big your TV is, Whereas in the afternoon you
only have those three games, so keeps everybody on their toes.
Look as the game as the year goes on. Those
(12:36):
are more marquee games, or so it would appear. But
to your point, yeah, trying to make sure your audience
is best served to see a smattering of everything all
the better. I mean, really, I don't see how that's
not been something that's looked into. It's really not that
big a deal to have it. When you play once
a week instead at one o'clock, you're play at four o'clock, right,
(12:58):
and it's still in the West Coast. Gad you're playing
one pluck anyway you can have that. And I don't
see how you're All you're doing is letting people watch
less teams at one o'clock because whether you're watching Red Zone,
whether you're flipping around channels you are getting you're watching
less football because you're flipping around.
Speaker 2 (13:15):
You know everything.
Speaker 1 (13:15):
They're in the coots with the TV manufacturers. You know
the prices of TVs, and now you're encouraging people to
build out full on man cans with eight to ten. Okay,
people are gonna now go to boycott Zenith and Toshiba
and and all these other places to make sonic.
Speaker 2 (13:33):
Yeah, I just wanted to say Magnet they still I
don't in business Visio. Visio is great love Visio.
Speaker 1 (13:40):
Yeah, but magne ox Wow, you like that? That's good?
Speaker 2 (13:43):
Exit?
Speaker 1 (13:44):
Ou about a Fresco exit swollen dome. Jason Smith Mike
Harmon live from the Fox Sports Radio studios. Well, a
couple of things happening right now. Aaron Rodgers proving that hey,
no matter what the Jets do, it's always going to
be wrong. Yes, he now has four touchdowns on the night.
He hits Pat Fryarmouth busted coverage for the Bengals, who
(14:04):
now the Steelers with a thirty one thirty lead over
the Bengals just over two minutes left to go in
the fourth quarter. Does Joe Flacco have last minute magic
in him? We got a great one happening right now.
We'll add the end for you next right here, Jason

(15:45):
love putting this content out for you every single night. Well,
we are a minute away from getting a very salty
Mike Tomlin as the Bengals are about to kick a
game winning field goal. There's fifty three seconds left to
go in the game. The Bengals have called their second
(16:07):
time out with the play clock ticking down to zero,
and I don't think that Zach Taylor wanted to lose
any more yards. The Bengals look like they're going to
beat the Steelers, which means Mike Tomlins postgame pres corr
is gonna be awesome and I'm gonna get to say
I told you. The Steelers stake Joe Flacco is now
at three forty two and three touchdowns. They trail this
(16:31):
game thirty one to thirty. However, they will be trying
a thirty two yard field goal from the middle of
the field to win this game as well. More than that,
actually a little bit more, because Flacco just went back
like four yards Joe the extra second or two and
created potential chaos.
Speaker 5 (16:48):
It is.
Speaker 1 (16:48):
It's gonna be about a thirty five thirty seven yard
field goal for Evan McPherson to win this game. The
reason it's set up this way is Flacco hits t
Higgins on a big pass that Higgins goes for twenty
nine yards, has an open path to the end zone.
But he slides down at the five yard line. This
allowed the Bengals to make the Steelers use their last
(17:09):
couple of timeouts. Cincinnat He's gonna take it all the
way down until they don't need to anymore to potentially
kick the game winning field goal here to win this game.
Thirty three thirty one. Again, the only chance the Steelers
have really is to block this kick, but it's an
inside forty yard field goal by McPherson, and Joe Flacco
looks like he's gonna walk away in Icy Bowl, Icy
(17:31):
Hot Bowl.
Speaker 2 (17:32):
Victor.
Speaker 1 (17:32):
The gray in his beard underneath the chin, smiling on
the sideline did his job thirty one to forty seven, three,
forty two and three. Jamar Chase sixteen catches for one
sixty one And I'm sorry for t Higgins fantasy owners
that played him tonight. You could have gotten that extra
five yards, maybe you got a hundred yard bonus, but
(17:53):
you didn't get it. Here he's still got twenty points
from Ti Higgins. I think you still have you might
go and it might have got that plus another six
Maneah no, no, I know, but he's not just it's not
like a walking point night. Yeah, we walked fifteen. But
walking out of that Thursday with that kind of performance,
you would have emulated Aaron Glenn. Okay, you would have
done the Aaron Glenn dance. That kind of performance. Man,
(18:13):
So there is gonna be a little bit of time
left for the Steelers to run some kind of crazy play.
McPherson's field goal was up and good. It is a
thirty three, thirty one lead, seven seconds left to go.
Joe Burrow is applauding on the sideline. He had a
grin from ear to ear.
Speaker 5 (18:31):
Only one real.
Speaker 2 (18:31):
Problem though, Joe Flack was so incredibly tired. What he
got Frostburg. It's the real big problem. Yeah, Aaron Rodgers
is their quarterback. Yes you know this, Well he's not
getting more last year.
Speaker 1 (18:42):
Yeah, no, I know, I know, but but it's still
it's been a big, icy, hot Bowl night for both
of these guys, right, Like it's a big night being
over forty. This is gonna be a big night, right,
Anybody over forty is gonna say.
Speaker 2 (18:52):
I love this game. Rogers was really good and and
oh and Flacca was really good. Okay, yeah, two guys
that Jets had and couldn't make better. You know, That's
what makes this just a little bit depressing for me.
Speaker 1 (19:04):
Just a little bit. The ex Jet now Good thing
continues like it's half the league right now. Look, Flacco
and Rogers are proving that no matter who you are,
when you get to the Jets, things will get bad,
and when you leave things will get good again. You're
good Jets, bad leave Jets, things are good.
Speaker 2 (19:24):
Right. Whether whether you're either.
Speaker 1 (19:26):
Of these guys, or Darnold or Geno Smith or Todd
Bowles doesn't matter. Man, Hey, I was good, then I
got to the Jets, it was bad, and then I'm
good again. Everything else Aaron Rodgers done his entire career
has been good. Got to the Jets was terrible, right.
Joe Flacco, Okay, he was bad in Denver for that
half the season, but everywhere else, Hey, Flacco's been good
(19:46):
except with the Jets, Right. I mean, I feel like
this is it's the ex Jet now Good has just
absolutely taken over. And I got to sit here and
watch every quarterback and head coach, whoever was the Jets
have had over the course of the past ten years.
When they get they're terrible. When they get someplace else,
they're actually good. Combined age of what is it eighty
two on display here tonight, and they gave us sixty
(20:10):
four points. This has been a thriller. I mean the
big hit to friar Mouth for the sixty eight yard
touchdown that gave them the short term lead, but the
old you scored too fast with Joe Flacco on that
other sideline, neat tell you right? Yeah, so again, still
seven seconds left. The kickoff went into the end zone,
(20:30):
So the Bengals are okay with letting them play one
last hail Mary. Now we've seen Aaron Rodgers throw big
hail mary's before, but can he throw it all the
way from his own thirty five in his forties. I
don't know if he can quite do that. Break it
up be fun to saving and crake it up. But
instead it looks like the Steelers are gonna try a
little bit. Hey, let's get something a little bit closer.
(20:51):
They throw an out to friar Mouth for five yards
that gets them the forty five yard line, or for
ten yards the forty five yard line, so three seconds
left now, making a little bit easier for Aaron Rodgers
potentially to throw a hail mary. See what we have
in that Chuck five catches one hundred and eleven yards
two touchdowns for Friarmuth to lead the way. All of
a sudden, right, all the guys said last night, Yeah,
you can't play a lot of these guys fantasy wise.
Speaker 2 (21:13):
All of a sudden, it's a fantasy bonanza.
Speaker 1 (21:15):
But it becomes the all right, because it's the Bengals
and what their defense has been. You could say, sure,
we put them in. But it's also with the risk
of it's a Thursday night game, it is a divisional game.
All of those things come to bear. Rogers does have
the arm to get it there. However, it gets knocked
down by the Bengals. He moved through, tumbled that wee
(21:37):
he got it all the way there. He got except
I think his receivers were a little bit too deep
in the end zone. Got it from about his own
thirty five yard line all the way to the goal
line where it gets batted down. Bengals win at thirty
three to thirty one. The Steelers fall to four and two.
The Bengals are three and four. Flacco and Rogers at
midfield congratulates that might be the best shot of the year.
(21:59):
Ago they up to each other just that he's got
the sour puss. And then he sees flack Oh, and
he just kind of starts smiling. He gets like that
grinch smile that goes all the way up to the
all the all the people tomorrow that are going to
wear the old guy's rule sweatshirts and T shirts and hats,
old guys rule, hats you. That's gonna be sixty four
(22:19):
points for the old guys.
Speaker 2 (22:20):
Let's go.
Speaker 1 (22:21):
You had you had, you had one guy go for
you know, two forty nine and four touchdowns and one
did I go for three forty two and three touchdowns?
He got it to the end zone?
Speaker 2 (22:30):
Did he did?
Speaker 5 (22:31):
It?
Speaker 1 (22:31):
Looked again, it looked like the Steelers their receivers were
a little bit too deep. Nobody was was right at
the goal line. Bengals go up and knock it down
and they wind up winning this game. And the thing is,
I told you the Steelers stink. I told you they
did to put the Bengals to win out right, So
hold you.
Speaker 2 (22:50):
They stink, and they do. They stink, and they do.
I don't did they stink? They stinking? They do?
Speaker 1 (22:53):
But I thought they would pull it out. I'm okay,
I'm Okay, they don't stink. I'm okay, Steelers stink. Come on, man, Steelers,
I told you they weren't good. And the Bengals came
in at two and four. Yeah, with the rejuvenated Joe Flatto.
Speaker 2 (23:09):
I mean look at him.
Speaker 1 (23:11):
So uh the way resplendent. The White Tiger got it done.
Speaker 2 (23:16):
TNF is in the boat. Well, yeah, the uniforms come
on that helmets.
Speaker 1 (23:19):
Yeah, the White Tiger sparkles to that.
Speaker 2 (23:22):
You got you got gold, Jerry.
Speaker 1 (23:25):
When I see the Bengals in those uniforms, I just
think of the big scenes from uh uh uh Empire
Strikes Back where they're on Hoff and everybody's wearing like
the uh the rebels and the stormtroopers are all wearing
the big the camouflage white uniforms and stuff.
Speaker 2 (23:40):
It's like, oh, that's pretty cool man. They're gonna have
blasting too. I kind of like that. H Meanwhile, it
is also over in Seattle, speaking of old guys, Max
Schurzer one and in the playoffs is the Blue Jays
beat the Maritors eight to two.
Speaker 1 (23:57):
We'll have more on this game coming up in a
couple of minutes. But now joining us on the hot
line again, it's a big night for guys over forty you,
me and Mike Harmon. Yeah, I mean Jay Lazy's only
twenty nine, that's true. He's enjoying the old guy night
for Joe Flacco and Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 2 (24:11):
What's happening, Jay, unbelievable.
Speaker 5 (24:13):
I do love it.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
I do love it.
Speaker 5 (24:15):
But you know what it also shows you man, you
know intelligence at that position. Those guys to play forever
and ever and ever. Flaco unreal, man. He gives all
of Scots some jersey. We're kind of you know, I'm
always cheeter On in shape, out of shape, all this
stuff he gives us all.
Speaker 2 (24:30):
You know what when they got.
Speaker 5 (24:31):
Was in shape sometimes the shape of a pair.
Speaker 2 (24:33):
Yeah, it doesn't matter what the shape is. Jay, You're
in shape.
Speaker 1 (24:37):
It doesn't matter that look for Joe Flacca, Like when
they made this trade, I thought, this is the system
that works for him and he was gonna unlock Jamar
Chase because as we've seen in the NFL, there's a
system for everybody. But wow, I didn't think it was
gonna work this fast for the Bengals with Flacco showing up.
Speaker 5 (24:54):
You know, I talked to Zach Tyler about it. Last
week and he was like, I was so surprised that
how much he knew of our terminology. But Alex van Pelt,
who was I think the quarterback coach where we live
in Cleveland, was with Zach at some point also, so
it was the same terminology. So that helped him out
quite a bit. But he was like, still even when
you're coming out the place, I was just shocked, Like
he's like, man, it was like he's been here for
(25:16):
a while. So he was able to just regurgitate. And
I said, you can't go full with him, can you.
He's like, not so, but the only thing we can
do is really just get too fancy with motions and
you know, different packages. That's just this week he's picked
go up like the forwards. Just next week we're going
to go. But the one thing that they really did
emphasize is like, man, these receivers are so happy. They're
(25:40):
so excited because he has that timing. He's able to
do things. He's able to throw it exactly where they
want it. You know, he could reach them deep and yeah, man, like, hey,
don't ever can have an old fighter.
Speaker 1 (25:53):
But the thing that stood out to me watching this one,
Jay is coming in and the tail of the tape
was would that offensive line be able to keep them upright?
They get them clean all night?
Speaker 5 (26:02):
They did. But you know what he does also though,
as opposed to you know what Briannan was doing. He
gets rid of ball fest. Yeah, get rid of the
ball fest. That's it, and that's the thing what you
want to do. You know. A couple of weeks ago
I talked to Kyle Shanahan about you know what he's
done with like mac Jones, what he did with Sam Donald,
what guys like Kevin O'Connell, Dullman, Daniel Jones, Sam Donald,
you know Selman Jay does with Baker Maychel to a point,
(26:24):
and he's like, the key is you got to just
give those guys your confidence back. And the way you
do that is just, man, just play fearless. Like you
gotta let him play fearless. And that's fast. If they
hold on the ball, they try and think too much, Man,
you're you're gonna get into confidence shields. So just play fearless.
If he's like, if you play fearless, then would God
(26:45):
bless them with the ability to shine in this league
in the first place? Coming back out no, no matter
what who you are, how old or whatever it is.
If you could just play fearless, that ability comes back
out and you have the ability to get in this
league in the first place. But that's the thing, like,
you know, the quarterback position is so intricative. The quarterback
(27:05):
position is obviously by your arm, but it's probably more
about those six inches between your ears than anything else.
And that's that's what Flack. I think. He's just like,
I got nothing to lose here. I got probably the
best receiver cannem in the NFL. Let's go. And it's
timing with them. That's the thing that was I've been
more amazing than anything else. He's timing with those guys
and from the outroute some of the hit like some
(27:27):
crossing patterns. That to me was what was like he
had timing with those guys as if he's been with
them for three training camps.
Speaker 1 (27:35):
Jake Glazer with us, he know Jason Smith, Mike Harmon
Fox Sports Radio. Now I know you know Mike Tomlin
pretty well. And clearly we see now why Mike Tomlin
was so upset about the Browns trade. I'm so fleck
go to the Bengals. I mean doubt when we saw.
I said, wow, okay, right, he's right, No, he is absolutely,
it is right.
Speaker 5 (27:55):
And people were like, it's so refreshing to hear Michael
Tomlin talk is fuck is mind? We talked to his mitt, like,
what are you talking about? He's gonna hold back, but no,
he's right though, Like you don't want to help people
within your division ever, Like you don't want to do
it in a position like that. You know that that
was I'm sure that the Browns looked like, okay, well
(28:16):
we're done with Flack, Let's go see if we can
get something for him. And obviously microspissed off. He's like, no,
why are you helping people inside? You don't do that.
You don't do insider trading in this division. Yeah, you
see why he was so upset. You know, it'll be
interesting to see what happens during the buy because I
just I still think in the end, I think the
Steelers is gonna be a team you're not gonna want
to face later on. You know, they're gonna be a team.
(28:39):
You know, they're finally getting a little bit healthy there,
but they get Aaron. Being healthy at this point is
big for them defensively, you know, they kind of struggled
coming out of the gates. Then the pass rus been
great the last few weeks and struggled again tonight. And
I think they have enough courses. We'll get it right.
I think I can see Mike kind of diving in
a little bit more on that side, but I think
(29:00):
the skiller is still going to be more than five. Listen,
anytime you have division games, so within that the n worth,
you never know what's gonna happen. So you can't kind
of look at how season is going to go just
based on these games, because those guys always beat up
on each other.
Speaker 1 (29:15):
Jay, we know the phone is always glowing with news
and information and rumor conjecture, speculation floating about. We've seen
some deals already, h and we see the names get
longer and longer on the rumor mill. Do we are
we expecting fireworks here in the next two weeks?
Speaker 5 (29:32):
Yeah? What's happened? Because actually because of the flacklad deal
and there were two other deals last week, I had
a budge of teams and GMS told me that they're
going to it kind of spread the sped the process
up that normally things heat up the week of the
trade deadline was still a couple of weeks away. Usually
heats up that week, maybe you know, a couple of
(29:53):
days earlier than that, but it definitely started heating up
this past week where a lot of teams are calling
around because those three deals were just done it way
sooner than than they normally are.
Speaker 1 (30:06):
You can fall on Twitter at Jay Glazer, that is
at Jay Glazer. Jay as always, Buddy, appreciate the night.
Speaker 2 (30:11):
Hey, everyone's been wearing old Guys Rule shirts tomorrow, so
I think it'll be a great night for everybody.
Speaker 5 (30:16):
Listen, Man, I still think I'm like twenty four, so
that's all right.
Speaker 1 (30:20):
I still dress that way.
Speaker 5 (30:21):
Yeah, I'm never gonna lose it.
Speaker 2 (30:23):
A good man. Jay'd be good, buddy. We'll talk to
you all right.
Speaker 1 (30:27):
You're the mask. Be good, Jack, There goes Jay Glazer.
I mean, like in the mall tomorrow, those hats, like
the red, white and blue hats with the dogs on them,
like with the big Dogs Old Gouts Rule.
Speaker 2 (30:39):
It's exactly what it's gonna be tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (30:41):
I mean, everybody that watched this game, you get a
little tier in your e gun, you can still get it, man.
Speaker 2 (30:46):
And this in suresh, I mean you know, I'm not coming.
Speaker 1 (30:50):
Out of this game. And again I gotta say, you know,
players who leave the Jets who are good leave it
badly with the Jets, leave her good. Max Schurzer was good,
got of the Mets, wasn't good. Left the Mets. Here
he is in the Alcs, evening the Alcs for the
Blue Jays.
Speaker 2 (31:05):
Maybe it's just that you're the problem. It might be,
it might be me. It really I could hate to
say it.
Speaker 1 (31:10):
I could be I hate to say it, but it's
probably me time now to find out what's trending in
the wide world of sports. From someone who's been called
the Max Scherzer of Fox Sports Radio. If you walk
up to her and tell her something she doesn't want
to hear, she will tell you to get the hell
off the mound and back into the dugout. It's Monty
Blagno's facts Facts.
Speaker 6 (31:29):
I wish I had two different colored eyes like a husky. Okay,
I wish I wish I could. That's awesome, Okay, he
looks awesome. Every time I stare at back Sures or.
Speaker 7 (31:41):
I'm just like that, I really think, like that's one
of the coolest things that you know, doesn't happen to
humans a lot. Having two different colored eyes anyway, Remember
when he had a black guy and the black eye
was the one that was a light.
Speaker 6 (31:53):
Okay, does matter?
Speaker 1 (31:54):
Yeah, but you go get colored contacts, take care of that.
Speaker 6 (31:56):
It's same.
Speaker 1 (31:57):
Yeah, but only you know. It's kind of like color
in your hair. Natural.
Speaker 6 (32:01):
No, it doesn't for most people. It doesn't. It doesn't
look natural. I just stare it at the contact.
Speaker 1 (32:05):
I tried, all right, Yeah, but he gave up on
his team.
Speaker 6 (32:08):
Who did master? Did he?
Speaker 2 (32:10):
Not tonight?
Speaker 6 (32:11):
Not tonight? Definitely not tonight.
Speaker 5 (32:13):
No.
Speaker 7 (32:13):
He almost got through six innings, gave up just three hits,
two earned runs, had four walks five strikeouts, and the
Blue Jays have even the series in the ALCS after
beating the Mariners eight to two. Vladimir Guerrero Junior also
homered in this game, and Resimenez also homered and he
ended with four RBI.
Speaker 6 (32:30):
They'll play game five Maniana. That's tomorrow.
Speaker 7 (32:33):
Game four between the Dodgers and the Brewers is also
tomorrow at Dodgers Stadium, but the Dodgers may bring out
the brooms and sweep the Brewers because they're up now.
Speaker 6 (32:40):
One went away.
Speaker 7 (32:41):
From advancing to the World Series, beating Milwaukee three to one.
Wookie bets and Tommy Edwin with three with RBIs in
this one. The Brewers in the first three games against
the Dodgers have only had nine hits. They have struggled
offensively for sure. In the NFL, Yeah, Week seven has
kicked off and it is now the.
Speaker 6 (32:59):
First game in the book, says the Bengals.
Speaker 7 (33:01):
With the thirty three to thirty one upset over the Steelers,
you guys were just talking about it, led by Joe
Flacco's game winning drive, his thirtieth career game winning drive,
by the way, he ended with three hundred and forty
two yards and three touchdowns. In the air, Jamar Chase
had sixteen catches, one hundred and sixty one yards and
a touchdown for Pittsburgh Aaron Rodgers he threw for two
hundred and forty nine yards four touchdowns, but he also
(33:22):
had two interceptions. In other NFL news, you may see
wide receiver CD lambback for the Cowboys. He says he's
ready to play Sunday against the Commanders as he returns
from an injured ankle, and forty nine Ers tight end
George Kittle, who we haven't seen since Week one because
of a handstring strain. He's ready to play Sunday Night
football against the Falcons. Other players that didn't practice today
Rams wide receiver Pukinakua, Commander's wide receiver Terry McLaurin, and.
Speaker 6 (33:45):
Bucks wide receiver Emica Ebuka.
Speaker 7 (33:47):
In college football, Indiana head football coach Kurt Signetti has
agreed to a eight year contract extension. The deal runs
through twenty twenty three and makes him the third highest
paid college coach in college football when it comes to
the NBA. The Athletic reports at the Hawks and Trey
Young have not agreed to a contract extension before the
start of the regular season, so he's going to play
(34:08):
on his final year and also sixers four Paul George
is not expected to be ready for the season opener
next week, but he could be ready soon after that
following knee surgery.
Speaker 6 (34:17):
That he had this summer.
Speaker 3 (34:18):
Back to you, guys, how happy you don't have to
worry about Paul George with the Clippers anything?
Speaker 6 (34:23):
Oh so happy? Oh you have no idea?
Speaker 2 (34:26):
Oh?
Speaker 6 (34:26):
Bye?
Speaker 1 (34:27):
I yeah?
Speaker 6 (34:28):
So happy. We dodged a bull.
Speaker 7 (34:30):
I mean we could have dodged it earlier, but at
least we dodged it at some point.
Speaker 2 (34:33):
And it's good. You gave Kawhi even more money.
Speaker 6 (34:34):
Oh yeah, no, of course he's gonna go plant trees. Yeah, exactly, exactly, Thank.
Speaker 2 (34:39):
You very much. Slippers are good.
Speaker 6 (34:41):
We're ready.
Speaker 1 (34:44):
That's it up about it, Fresca exit Swollen Dome. We
have more football on the way. But coming up next,
we have to break down what is the biggest, most
fun and craziest moment of the night from the baseball playoffs?
Wait do we tell you about it? That's next. Jason
to Mike Fox.
Speaker 8 (35:03):
I'm a fun guy. Obviously, I love the game of basketball.
I mean, it's just a more question you have to
ask me in.
Speaker 1 (35:14):
Order for be sure to catch live editions of The
Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern,
seven pm Pacific, Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Harmon. We have more big
reaction to Old Guys Night, also known as Thursday Night Football.
(35:38):
Come in your wigy in about ten minutes. But speaking
of old guys, Yeah, Max Schurzer, who turned fifty seven tonight,
showed that I am still salty?
Speaker 2 (35:49):
Is it?
Speaker 1 (35:49):
Tysher is this year, like, hey, I'm thinking of old guys.
Music's on siliers right here, listen. Okay, wait for it,
old man, look at my yep? Yeah, did you just
look up? Let me find something that has old Man
in the title. Person that came up? Okay, very all right.
I just typed in old Man.
Speaker 2 (36:08):
I talked to Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 1 (36:09):
How are you sure we're gonna hear fougerty Oh wow,
the song he got sued for plagiarizing himself. We're gonna
start here in like Bill Haley and the cometslock four
o'clock rock. I was just gonna go with songs with
old Man in the title, Go old Man well, and
then watching The Old Man with Jeff Bridges, the TV
(36:29):
show that was on the Old Man. Isn't there an
isn't there a liquor called old Man? I'm sure I
know there's old Times early times, but I think there's
Old Man. I just gotta be like old man ale
or something. It was old time spelled t y M
E T y.
Speaker 2 (36:43):
It doesn't matter. It could be with an I or
a y. I'm i'm, i'm, I don't care either way.
It's okay, old time, old guy, old guy, old time,
old man liquor. Just have some old man liquor also
known as cors light. All right, so Shenley's, Uh, Max
Scherzer tonight gets the win for the Blue Jays, and again,
like all my teams, you come to my team, you're
(37:04):
not good, you leave, and you're good again. Max Shu's
despite being fifty seven years old, gets the win tonight
and the big highlight of the night in baseball, because
look the Dodgers at a very workman like victory over the
Brewers today to go up three zip. We got John
Paul Morosi in a half hour from more on that.
But Scherzer kind of taking the baton a little bit
(37:26):
from Blake Snell and some others who have decided, Hey,
apparently it's okay if my manager wants to come out
and take me out of a game and I tell
him no, I'm staying.
Speaker 1 (37:34):
Yeah. John Schneider tries to come out and take Max
Scherzer out of this game in the fifth inning, and
Max Schurtzer just.
Speaker 2 (37:40):
Tells him no. He yells, let's go. He yells at him, Hey,
he yells, let's go.
Speaker 1 (37:45):
He would not come out of this game very quick
mound visit, Schneider go, Okay, I'm not gonna embarrass myself.
So this is now Pitchers finally empowering themselves, saying no,
I got it, I got it, I got it right,
and I un understand this right, I understand this, and
I understand this phenomenon, And so much of coaching has
to go with when a pictuer is in a positive
(38:07):
place mentally, when he knows you can get one more
out right. I understand this, right, and I like it. However,
we've seen it a couple of times, only seen it
like two or three times. It's worked out both two
or three times. Okay, that's great, but you know what,
it ain't gonna work out a lot. And all of
a sudden, what's what's kind of cool right now? Because
it is really cool to see it is gonna wind
(38:29):
up being really embarrassing because eventually manager's gonna have to say, Okay,
if I'm coming out to get you, I'm coming out
to get you. I'm still in charge.
Speaker 2 (38:37):
I'm coming out again.
Speaker 1 (38:38):
The numbers say if the pitch, if I if if
you're going out for a visit, if I still think
you're good, I'm sitting the pitching coach out. You might
have to come out with a guy from the accounting
from it's an award show, you know, or maybe I
just want to come out and talk to you and
I give you a sign that says you're good. Some
have it because it's gonna get really embarrassing for the
manager and it's gonna it's gonna blow up in their face.
Where he's gonna come out to make a picture out
(39:00):
in a big game. Maybe it's in the Alcs, maybe
it's in the World Series where they're gonna come out
and say, hey, you're coming out of the game and
it's no, I want to stay in. They give up
a three run homer, and then the manager's gonna say,
I'm gonna think about that every day for the rest
of my life. Why did I let you convince me
you could stay in when I knew it was time
for you to go, right, That's how this is going
to end. It's fun right now, right, it's great, but
(39:22):
I look, it's to be great for us. We have
to make fun, of course, But that's how it's gonna end,
with managers and teams wearing egg on their face, being
embarrassing with a horrendous loss because they let pitchers talk
themselves into staying in the day. Generally speaking, we're talking
about the highly paid, highly successful, and decorated starters that'll
do this, at least to this point. Occasionally, I'm sure
(39:45):
we'll have the the mid twenties something that just says, no, skip,
I got this. I'm the hot arm of the week,
and it's say no, no, get out and get out.
I mean, there's still a reason that you run an
analytics department and why your manager has a job.
Speaker 2 (39:58):
So as much as this old to your point, and.
Speaker 1 (40:02):
I love to see the gritty side of it, which
is what we're talking about. From the football side, that's
all great, but yeah, it will come back to bite
them in the ass at some point. You know, he's
the oldest pitcher to win a postseason started forty one
years in eighty one days since the two thousand and
six World Series.
Speaker 2 (40:20):
Two thousand and six World Series going back to that
was the year before the Rockies and the Red Sox
was two thousand and seven, two thousand and six was
I hit you with the real fast?
Speaker 1 (40:33):
Cardinals?
Speaker 2 (40:33):
Tigers?
Speaker 1 (40:34):
Uh Cardinals, Kenny Rogers Game two, Oh the Gambler I
got it. The Gambler forty one years three Hunt just
shy of forty second birthday, three hundred and forty six days.
Speaker 2 (40:46):
There we go, but that again an old guys rule
night here on Fox Sports. Right Where the hat? Where
the T shirts?
Speaker 1 (40:51):
If you haven't, Yeah, the day after my birthday? Old
guys rule and get that the noisemakers. Coming up next,
we get back into a big hot take off of
Thursday Night Football.
Speaker 2 (41:01):
Jason not an icy hot take, a hot take Fox
