Speaker 1 (00:30):
Hello, Welcome in Side hour two The Jason Smith Show
with my best friend Mike Harmon, Live from the tire
rack dot Com studios tirac dot com. I help you
get there. An unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road
hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tirack dot
Com is the way tire buying should be. Well still, really,

(00:52):
I don't I don't know that we need much outside
of the Luca ad trade. Maybe till maybe till baseball
season starts. Wow, we might be okay, Well, hang on,
free agency in the NFL is beginning, not okay? Okay,
so free agency the beginning of Mark Well, the Super
bowlt and yeah, yeah, no, I think it might might
be all the way good to baseball anyway could.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
You really leaning in to sell the NBA Adam Silver
is what did he leave in your pocket and what
did he give you?

Speaker 1 (01:20):
Well, dude, I'll tell you man, this is why I
love sports because you know, for anybody that sometimes when
I I'll go to a party, I'll meet somebody and
they go, what do you do for a living? I
work in sports?

Speaker 4 (01:30):
What do you do?

Speaker 1 (01:30):
And I and I say it, And sometimes people are
really interested in what I do and they ask me
questions sometimes like oh, that sounds great. THEWS people go
oh that's cool, and I know, you know, they're not
a sports fan, and I can tell sometimes I get
to look like it's sports, you know, like oh that
person likes sports like sports, yes, yes, okay, yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:50):
That means I'm more likely to get back to the
giant trays of charcuterie and be left alone because it'll
circulate throughout that party. I've been part of these for
a law long long time, so it's pretty good to
be the sports guy. You'd have the one person that
really just wanted to pick your brain about anything and
everything related to their favorite team in the city, and
then everybody else you are a pariah. And then someone

(02:12):
would get around that. You may have an advanced degree,
and it's like, suddenly you're that much more interesting. Oh yeah,
you like sports and you like that. Well, let's go.
Now shut up, I'm eating my cheese. I'll get out
of here.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
I'll tell you it's everybody at parties when I talk
about how much I read. Oh you read? Yes? Really?

Speaker 3 (02:29):
Cause I do sports.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
I can't read, yes, ip pop.

Speaker 3 (02:32):
Maybe I read books.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
All the time. Oh, by the way, you want a
great book recommendation, you want a phenomenal book recommendation.

Speaker 3 (02:39):
Is it about the apocalypse?

Speaker 4 (02:40):
No?

Speaker 1 (02:41):
And you know me, I'm not a big sports book guy. Like,
it's got to be really really good for me to
read it. The Boys of Riverside it just came out
about a month and a half ago. It's one of
Amazon's best books of the year. I read it. It's
about a deaf football team in Riverside, entirely deaf school,
deaf football team eight man football, and their rise into

(03:01):
the playoffs to become a big power over the over
a two year period. It is a phenomenal book. It's
about football, like Friday Night Lights is about football, where
it could have been about anything, but the setting was football.
Like this story about the about this deaf football team,
like it had so many great things about it. It
could have been about anything. It could have been about
a pottery class. It could have been about a track team.

(03:23):
It could have been about people. It could have been
about actors. But instead it, you know, it happens to
be about football. It is a phenomenal book. It's a
book you'll remember the rest of your life. You'll remember
this book the rest of your life. I promise you.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
There you go.

Speaker 1 (03:36):
That's Good Reads. Now Smith's there. Hey, yeah, I like
to read. Oh but that's a sports book. Yes, oh, okay,
I'm gonna go talk about another book that's not sports. Uh.

Speaker 3 (03:46):
The everything could be a sports book, just like every
movie can be a Halloween, Christmas, or Valentine's Day, depending
on how you want to frame it.

Speaker 1 (03:55):
I read Jurassic Park. At the end, jam Neil's character
was one Soto. Okay, so uh the Laker trade for
Luka Doncic. There is incredible reason to be optimistic and
excited about this. Obviously, there's also a bit of a warning.
Yes there is, Okay, yes there is. Let me tell you.

(04:17):
We'll do the warning first. Then we'll get to excitement.
How about's the only angle warning first and he excited. No,
there's two angles to it. And you know what it's
got to do. It's it's got to do with thrifting. Okay,
now I told you, you know, I'm a big thrifter.
I love taking my daughter, my daughter's friends thrifting. It's
it's so much fun for us to do. I've always
enjoyed the idea of shopping and getting a bargain when

(04:37):
I can. You know, now, I like to thrift because
you know, obviously is it cheaper than buying new. Yeah,
but it's also a way to you know, do my
little part to save the environment, to keep recycled clothes
going and stuff. And it's just a fun thing that
I like to do. Now, think about the Luka doncic
Ad trade as as going thrifting, right when you go,
when I go, and genuine people go, you want to

(04:59):
look for something that's designer, that is really cool, that's say,
oh my god, this is a ninety dollars item and
I'm getting it for seven dollars, Like that's like the greatest,
that's like the holy Grail, Like, oh my, this is
a this is a Ralph Lauren hoodie. This is like
ninety five dollars when new, and now it's seven dollars.
And you look at it and it looks good, the
stitching looks good, there's no big stains on it. Like, wow,

(05:20):
I'm getting it and you're feeling great, right, And then
you know, you get it home and you put on
the hoodie and maybe it's great, right, Maybe it's awesome.
Maybe it's it's everything you want it would be. It
fits you ask me, Oh my god, it's my new
favorite piece of clothing. I'm gonna tell people that I
got this ninety dollars hoodie for seven dollars. They're gonna go, wow, oh.

Speaker 3 (05:38):
I love it, love it, love it. You get a right.

Speaker 1 (05:41):
Oh, that's true. And my dad's a big thrifter too.
He loves her. My dad loves My dad is seventy seven,
and he loves buying the brightest clothes you could imagine,
Like he like where the the the ultra bright orange
and greens. I'm like, Dad, what are you doing?

Speaker 3 (05:55):
Awesome? Dad? Like cocking at seventy seven, good brim I can.

Speaker 1 (05:58):
See you through the fog, Dad, what are you do it?

Speaker 3 (06:00):
Well, that's the idea if he's out for one of
his night plats.

Speaker 1 (06:04):
But sometimes when you get that thriven, you get that
great designer shirt hoodie home, and it's, oh, it's a
little bit tight under the arms. Boy, you know, it's
not quite as soft as I thought. The stitching on
the letters are kind of rubbing a little bit, and
it's overall it's not quite what I thought it was
gonna be. Maybe the gatherers out of one of the

(06:26):
sleeves a little bit, and you're like, huh, well, you know,
I did spend seven dollars on it, but boy, I
thought this was going to be something that was better. Right.
Think about that when you think about the trade ad
for Luca, right, because think about this. If you're the Lakers, yes,
you got a player who is twenty six years old,
the top five player in the game. But as I

(06:47):
said this on Saturday when I put out a video
on social media, nobody knows Luka Doncic better than the Mavericks.

Speaker 4 (06:55):
Nobody.

Speaker 1 (06:56):
He's been there for seven years, Nobody knows him better.
And they were okay with trading him, knowing full well
they were gonna get crushed because you're trading Luca who's
gonna trade Luca. I don't understand. They knew what was
gonna happen, but they knew him the best, and they
still wanted to trade him away. Now maybe they really

(07:18):
don't know what they're doing, and Mark Cuban not running
things is gonna be a big deal.

Speaker 4 (07:21):
He says.

Speaker 1 (07:22):
I wasn't involved in the trade. He had said before. Oh,
if I have to choose between trading Luca or getting divorced,
I call my lawyer to get the the you know,
the the divorce papers ready. But Luca might come in
and be amazing and could be the guy and the
Lakers go from Lebron to the Luca era and it's
and it's incredible. But they could also be getting a

(07:42):
guy that, hey, the Mavericks couldn't get him to lose
weight for the last few years. He's missing a lot
of games. Is he really gonna be that guy? Is he?
Are you getting someone that's gonna kind of give you
what he gives you? And as he gets older, he
starts missing more and more games because he's done his
own thing since he came into the NBA. And while
it works while you're young and you can ignore the

(08:02):
diet a little bit, and you can ignore being in shape.
When you get to be twenty six, twenty seven, get
to thirty, it becomes a thing. And maybe it's not
Maybe he's not as great as you think he's gonna be.
I mean, he's gonna be good, obviously, because it's Luca
Lucas still the floor is really low. But bringing him
in and thinking that he's gonna make all your problems
go away. Remember, there's a reason why the Mavericks traded him.

(08:25):
There's a reason why they called the other teams because
they're done. The reason why why I called other teams. Uh,
there's a reason why. And and there's something that that
you know with with Luca that we haven't heard yet.
But for the Mavericks to say we're gonna move on
from him, that's a thing, right. I know Luca's dad
is upset, and we'll get to that part of it
later on in the show. But right now, the Mavericks

(08:46):
are doing the right They're saying nice things about Luca. Hey,
defense wins championships, We need to go get a d
blah blah blah blah blah. They're being nice on the
way out. They're not trying to rip him. And I
give him a lot of credit for this too, because
they're not trying to sit back and say, Okay, now
we're going to give potshots at him because we're sick
of everybody telling us we're stupid, so we're gonna tell
you what we've dealt with with Luca for the last
few years. They're not doing that. So just understand, when

(09:09):
when the team that knows an absolute superstar the best
is okay with trading him, they know something we don't.
Maybe maybe it's his condition. Maybe you're never gonna get
him to be conditioning. Maybe they knew when they had
him he was never gonna get in shape for them.

Speaker 4 (09:23):
Maybe maybe they're just done.

Speaker 1 (09:25):
Maybe he'll do it for the Lakers, maybe he won't.
But understand there is a risk involved, and that's when
trades like this happen. You are hoping that it works out. So, yes,
it's a great trade for the Lakers, but understand it
might not be what you think because again, seven years
twenty six year old superstar, that's going to be a
red flag that the Mavericks who just went to the
finals with him a year ago are ready to move

(09:47):
on from him.

Speaker 5 (09:48):
Well.

Speaker 3 (09:48):
And that's when we can't wait to see how quickly
in this timetable that more hit pieces other than he
likes to have a beer and eat well comes to light.

Speaker 1 (09:58):
And they should have been taking his beer.

Speaker 3 (10:00):
You going to the finals, like, well, you know, ever
since we talked about it, you know, Michael Finley taking
away his beer and emasculating him in the moment when
he's hanging out with it.

Speaker 1 (10:08):
Now, doesn't doesn't that make sense? Now, if they can't
get him to be in shape, then we're gonna take
a beer from him, Like, like, I can't believe they
did it. It was ridiculously stupid, But at least that
kind of plays into oh, they can't get him to
stay in shape. It's like, dude, don't drink beer. We
got the NBA Finals coming up here.

Speaker 3 (10:22):
Kind of would have been better if you know, you
could tell me that that was going to be beer fifteen. Uh,
And now you're you're worried about some that habit.

Speaker 1 (10:32):
The game was over though, du god, But I mean.

Speaker 3 (10:35):
Have a beer with the dead, celebrate the victory and
move on, right, I mean, if and then he's suddenly
rolling around like Hasselhof with the cheeseburger. Then we got
we got to talk, right, So we look at the
Harrison Polinka relationship. A lot of this when we talk
about doing this undercover of darkness. But yeah, with Luca,

(10:56):
you know reports of you know, friends that are around
habits and waiting for the body to collapse. As I guess,
really where it all comes back, no matter what you
may believe and what's out there in the periphery right now,
unless that gets fleshed, I'll go back to Windhorse, who
never says anything critical about anybody. Remember he unleashed whatever

(11:19):
he got from a Mavericks executive. And you can't tell
me otherwise about the unacceptable end to last year I
had out of shape and all of these things that
this was a deplorable and unconscionable effort or lack thereof
that Luca put out in those waning minutes. We had

(11:40):
some fun with it at the time because you know,
it's a very small community there, including Wait, who's the
agency for the guy that broke the news on Saturday?
Wait who does he work with?

Speaker 1 (11:53):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (11:53):
Yeah, I'll wait for your answer. All of that had
to say, yeah, there might be something more nefarious here.
There could just be a all right, we're gonna go
in a different process, because let me tell you, if
you were doing a drinking game with Harrison, you'd and
his presser, you'd need someone to take your beers away.
Because the amount of time that when Defense wins championship

(12:15):
was uttered. I don't think I think he was trying
to convince himself as he was doing his presser with
that that he kept circling back and ad obviously both
ends of the court went available. Fantastic, You've got a
roster that's pretty good. He won't have to play center.
One thing that was a constant source of needling and

(12:35):
complaints here in la of I don't want to play there. Well,
they've got centers, so you don't have to worry about that.
And so at least through the trade deadline at the
moment you look like you're okay. But all of that, yeah,
maybe maybe there's another shoe to drop, and it's a
long term thing, and you just decided that he was
not going to be the three hundred and fifty million

(12:56):
dollar player that would remind you, you know, he has
been first team All NBA year after year. He has
played sixty plus games, right playing forty minutes, the high
usage rate, all of those fun advanced metrics that we
get to with the ball going through his hands. By

(13:16):
the way, I just I have to bring this up
because it's my favorite graphic of the weekend. The fact
that you had poor Zingis and Brounson and Luca and
they're all gone, tell me you're running an organization.

Speaker 1 (13:30):
Well yeah, well that Mark Cuban could at least say, hey,
this wasn't I didn't make this train.

Speaker 3 (13:34):
I didn't have all of those.

Speaker 5 (13:36):
Don't remember I told you the second Michael Finley took
his beer he would be a Laker within five years.

Speaker 3 (13:44):
Well, to be fair, I think you have photoshopped, at
least in your mind, every guy that's ever sniffed an
all starved vote, Like, no, what appearance.

Speaker 4 (13:54):
One that matters?

Speaker 3 (13:56):
But this is the one that came to fruition.

Speaker 1 (13:58):
Are the Lakers back?

Speaker 4 (13:59):
You better bet they're bleeping back?

Speaker 3 (14:01):
Oh he was, he was already They were back on
Saturday night, remember, because there was a game at the garden.

Speaker 1 (14:06):
Yeah that did. That didn't count. The Knicks already played
again and they beat the Rockets, who were better than
the Lakers. Garden party Mike was a great pre party
for the Luca party. I think the Knicks just took
it easy on they knew a big trade was coming
the next took it easy. If that's what makes you
sleep at night, that's fine, that's fine. You guys shot
sixty percent from the floor. Was a great game because
we played trash. Yeah, because oh so just stop you
would well, I mean.

Speaker 3 (14:26):
This goes back to you guys might rosing down on
three point shooting Smith, something you and I have talked
about on this show a lot.

Speaker 5 (14:33):
Because well, Jason, the Lakers got something you'll never know
the feeling of getting what's that?

Speaker 1 (14:39):
Frost a generational player? We have Jalen Brunson's a generational player.

Speaker 3 (14:43):
He is not.

Speaker 1 (14:45):
We have two of the five starters in the Eastern
Conference all stars, like the five hundred best player ever.
You would still trade Luca will go on as a
top trade player of all time.

Speaker 4 (14:54):
He's done.

Speaker 1 (14:55):
You would still trade all of our your roster for
all of the Knicks roster.

Speaker 4 (14:58):
You can have AD.

Speaker 1 (15:00):
Look out faster you love AD, lookout faster you ain't.

Speaker 3 (15:04):
He learned by watching you, Okay, he learned by watching you.
The way you cut guys loose from your professional and
collegiate sports life is really something amazing. You were probably
a really good breaker upper when you had the upper hand. Yeah,
I'm done with you. I washed my hands with you.

Speaker 1 (15:24):
I didn't have the upper hand that often, but yeah
I did. I threw that hammer down.

Speaker 3 (15:27):
I don't know you anymore. New phone, Who is.

That's expresspros dot Com. So a few minutes ago, we

(17:57):
talked about the warning for the Laker about Luka Doncic.
Just remember there's a reason why the team that know
him for seven years said, hey, we are desperate to
get rid of him because they're dummies.

Speaker 3 (18:11):
I mean that on the giant pie chart that is
you have to decide how much to describe it there.
But yeah, that is part of that.

Speaker 1 (18:19):
There is a slice for being dumb, Yes, there is that.
I just it's not as big as you think it is.

Speaker 3 (18:24):
This is not annick slash dumb kind of going the
same bucket.

Speaker 1 (18:28):
Yeah, it's all, but remember there's a reason why. And
they got an All NBA player in return, Like okay,
like sometimes if they were gonna lose them, I get it, right,
if they if they were convinced he wasn't gonna come back,
they didn't want to give him the money and he
wasn't gonna stay, what else you're gonna do? Right, It's
it's the old it's the old saying, do you want
to get rid of it? Like the Bill Belichick thing?
Do you want to get rid of a guy a

(18:49):
year too earlier, a year too late? He was always
I want to do it a year too early so
I could get something for him. This was the year
too early version for the Mavericks, where it was, okay,
we could lose him at the end of the year
for nothing, and that don't suck.

Speaker 3 (19:02):
But instead, don't let it truly become a distressed property
where you're not getting anybody commensurate with Anthony Davis in return.

Speaker 1 (19:10):
Right, And so now it was, well, now we get
an All NBA player. Yes, Anthony Davis doesn't come without
his issues, his health, but he's still thirty one, thirty two.
He's got three or four really good years left. Okay,
you got you got to you got a really good player,
you get an All NBA player back. But the thing
to be now, because I gave you the downside for
for the Lakers, what you got to be concerned about?
Now here's the flip side, and it's about one thing.

(19:32):
If the Lake on the show one thing. And oh,
by the way, how about the Lakers doing this when
they've been playing their best basketball the last four years?
I think about that for a second, like, hey, we
make the biggest trade when we've been playing the best
we played since we won the title number one, not
last year, not the year before, and no, no, no,
we're doing it. We have our best regular season record

(19:53):
that we've had in four years at this point. Now
we make the big track.

Speaker 3 (19:56):
It's something you do.

Speaker 4 (19:56):
If you have the Calves record.

Speaker 3 (19:59):
It's gonna say number one, you're you're playing really well.
And two, you just took down the Knicks at the
Garden without Anthony Davis.

Speaker 4 (20:11):
Wasn't even close.

Speaker 1 (20:12):
Mike, Yeah, you hurt O Giannunobi, which you're luckily he's Okay.
I would have stolen your car Frostburg and drove it
off the cliff.

Speaker 4 (20:18):
But no, he's hurt.

Speaker 1 (20:19):
Yeah, now he's coming. He definitely horrid game. Yeah, no,
you heard him, you heard him hurt. Thank you, thank
you for that.

Speaker 4 (20:24):
I appreciate that.

Speaker 1 (20:25):
But now here's the good. The good part it's about
one thing and and and I feel great about this
for the Lakers, is that the conditioning thing about Luca
is out there right, that's become the optic, that's become
the reason why the Mavericks moved on from him is
that they were never gonna get him to be in shape,
and they probably saw going forward, he's not gonna do

(20:46):
that for us. So if we give him three hundred
and fifty million dollars for the next however many years,
how long until his body is breaking down, because if
you don't keep yourself in shape as you get older,
you're gonna wind up getting hurt. And he's a big
guy anyway. You can see look his wake up to
what two sixty at one point earlier in the season,
So you know that that is out there. He was

(21:07):
given everything with the Mavericks, right, the Mavericks went out,
they drafted him, he came up, he was calling the
shots right. How many guys were traded so they could
pair him up with Luca. They were doing everything, They
bent over backwards. He's a star they wanted to keep.
But now it's not that he's a distressed property. But
now it's okay. Guess what. The team that did everything
for you, that drafted you and paid you once, guess what,

(21:29):
they're ready to move on from you. This is an
image hit for Luca. Luca has to know he can't
come to the Lakers and be the same guy. And
while it may wind up looking worse for the Mavericks
in retrospect, because he comes to the Lakers and suddenly, hey,
he's looking up at Lebron, the way Lebron has carried himself,
the way he's forty years old, is still with a

(21:50):
triple double at the age of forty, Lebron's got at
least three more really good years left. Like it's a
pretty good guy to say, hey, I want to be like,
I want to be playing at this level when I'm
forty years old. I got fourteen more years. I want
to be doing this.

Speaker 3 (22:02):
You almost walk down the I want to be like, no, no, no,
that's the other guy.

Speaker 1 (22:07):
But what you say, I mean, no one in the
history of sports has played at forty years old as
the level that Lebron James is playing, and now other
guys have been stars at forty but not playing at
this level. So you know that he's going to be
held responsible. And because it's not the team that drafted him,
that kind of gave him a lot of rope and
cow toowed to him and deferred to him, it's gonna

(22:28):
be tougher for him to play the whole Yeah, I
don't need to work out part of it. You know
the Lakers are going to be really on top of it,
making sure that, hey, we're gonna give you a lot
of money, but you have to do this, and you
know that with this optic out there of you, you
don't want this torpedoing your career. And suddenly you're a
guy that winds up with another team in a couple
of years, another team after that, and suddenly, by the
age of thirty one, you're just a guy who's floating

(22:50):
around like Carmelo Anthony was. So so that's what I
feel good about the Lakers is that there's no coddling.
The image took a hit for Luca. Now he needs
to build it back. So this is one of those
it was never gonna happen in Dallas and now and
no matter what you did, and it's gonna look worse
what happens in LA. But understand, if it wasn't gonna
happen there, it doesn't matter, it doesn't matter where he goes,

(23:12):
because this was the change of scenery. This was the
wake up call that he needs to be able to, Hey,
I want to stay a superstar. I need to understand this.
And this is a new team though I've been traded,
I've been put on notice. So I feel good that
this is the Luca that they're gonna get, the best
version of Luca, who's gonna be a guy that stays
in shape and wants to up his game and be
a franchise player in LA for the next ten years.

Speaker 3 (23:34):
No, I mean, I do love the fact that you
know we're going back to a playoff run that he
had all the way to the finals. And then finger
pointing and finger wagging by Windhorst finish my thought me
as media member in the Battle of the Bulge, I'm winning.
I'm winning. We've we've plowed under the two hundred, but

(23:56):
we're all fat shaming a guy that's been a five
time All NBA player in this doesn't mean that long term,
that doesn't wear on the body. All the comparisons to
Shaq and the others, and certainly Super Bowl festivities being
in New Orleans, I'm sure many quick drive by line
about Zion Williamson has been had in the covering of

(24:19):
this story. From the last seventy two hours. You would
like to think that the change of scenery and with
the Max deal, there's a lot of conversation about responsibility
about being that face because you're gonna becoming the face
of the Lakers, right and as much as you know
you're only one of thirty as we look at the

(24:41):
NBA and being a face of a franchise is a
big deal. This is the franchise, right, This is where
you line up the heroes of every generation. You've got
Magic Johnson talking a lot already, and we've seen the
love fest for years between Lebron and Luca. So if
anybody's gonna be able to recognize you know where in

(25:05):
the psychology you might be able to lean into the
good and it's up because it's the healthy lifestyles of
Los Angeles. I can show you plenty of places to
find yourself down in a five pound burrito or something
some greasy spoon. At every turn, they're there, but talking

(25:26):
about life choices and what you want to be as
a player. Because the five All NBA teams that's in
the past, the Finals appearance that's in the past. Now
you've got an opportunity to chart a whole of the way.
So can you get into the psychology of it. I
don't know that there's a better place. And potentially, you know,

(25:47):
if he's leaning into the whole mentorship side of things,
that yeah, Lebron could be that guy. Like we're not
talking about you know, Aaron Rodgers getting in front of
a microphone every four minutes to tell you how much
he's going to be a leader in a teammate to whoever
shows up on the Jets for Lebron. I think you
actually believe it because in Lucas, showing up still gonna

(26:08):
be some belief that you can win something, uh, and
something's tenable for you in your basketball mortality.

Speaker 1 (26:15):
Now think about it this way, right, because this is
what why this can work, right, why this is good
is because is this nothing that you don't see in
a different way a lot right like, because this is
very similar to let's say two people in relationship, right
and and and they've been dating for a long time
or they've been married, whatever it is, and over the

(26:36):
course of the relationship, what's going on, right, the guy
has decided, Ah, I'm gonna I'm gonna put on a
lot of weight, I'm not really gonna try. I'm gonna
sit on the couch more. I'm not gonna help out
as much as I did with whatever needs help about.
I'm just gonna kind of rest on my laurels. And slowly,
you know, your wife starts getting upset about that, you know,
and and and saying, hey, you know, how about a

(26:57):
little bit more help with things with the kids or
something else, or hey, have a little bit more drive,
you know, to go get a job or to you know,
go get a promotion. And ah, you know, I kind
of like, what's going on. I'm fine, I'm fine, I'm
doing I'm doing well. Then say she comes has had
it one day and says, okay, you know what this
is it? This marriage is over. I want a divorce.
And you get shocked and the guy st wait, what
do you mean the divorce? I'm sorry, We've had so

(27:19):
long to fix this, but it's not You're not the
same guy that I've been married to, and it's time
for us to get to be a part, right. I
know a handful of people that the relationship happened to him, like, well, dude,
one friends I know going through it now, And I'm like, dude,
what do you want me to tell you? Uh? Phil,
you know? And and so what happens after that? You
get divorced? And then what does the guy do? And

(27:41):
it could be it could be the woman in the relald,
it doesn't matter. I'm just using this as an example.
And then what does the guy do?

Speaker 4 (27:45):
Oh? Well, I don't.

Speaker 1 (27:47):
I don't. I don't like that. I don't want that
to happen again. Now, I'm gonna get in shape, I'm
gonna take care of myself and gonna take I'm gonna
be more on top of things because you know, I
want to meet somebody. I want to get married again.
I don't want to have any of this stuff happen.
And I really I blew it with my first wife.
I don't want to do that again. And all of
a sudden then he winds up, you know, losing weight
or taking more control of his life, whatever, whatever it is.

(28:09):
I stick with the losing weight because it's it's about
Luca being in shape, uh, you know, and and and
suddenly then hey, all right, I get it. And that
person then becomes a better version of themselves because they
got that wake up call which was really severe, which
in that case it was I'm getting divorced. In Luca's case,
it's Hey, the team that loved you, drafted you, gave

(28:30):
you everything. We are divorcing ourselves from you. We want
somebody else who's older than you that may be just
as injury prone, but hey, it's a different kind of
things we're dealing with. We just can't deal with you anymore.
So when when when you think about it from that perspective,
that is that is a switch that can be flipped.
It's not impossible. It's a switch, Like I said, it's

(28:51):
a switch that's flipped in relationships all the time, or
the people have that that wake up call in life
all the time. So that's why I'm confident that can
happen for the Lakers, that they can keep Luca on
that path and flip things around. So while yes, you
have to be concerned, there is a big warning that
we went through that you can't ignore. But the flip
side of it is, hey, that's why this trade was
so great. He's a top five NBA player. If you

(29:14):
can keep him with that, it's a huge, huge thing.
But remember that word is if that's a bit, that's
a big word when it comes to a trade like this.
Exit out about a Fresca exit swollen dome. Jason Smith
Mike Carmen Lot from the tiraq dot com studios time
out to find out what's trending in the wide world
of sports from a man who was once called the
Luca Daancia Fox Sports Radio. Everybody loved him where we

(29:35):
used to work, and then they got sick of him
and they traded him. Here it's Steve Desager.

Speaker 6 (29:40):
Essentially, what the man said is, we don't want to
be married to you.

Speaker 1 (29:45):
You've got it exactly. That is exactly it.

Speaker 6 (29:48):
By the way, we had absolute domination from Oklahoma City tonight,
a team that's thirty nine and nine. They were at
Milwaukee one twenty five to ninety six. Yes, Milwaukee was
without due to injuries. Jannis Antenna Compo.

Speaker 4 (30:00):
Amian Lillard.

Speaker 6 (30:00):
Chris Middleton was rested for the thunder. All Star Jalen
Williams was out again with a wrist injury, but Shay
Gilgis Alexander had thirty points in the first half. He
finished with thirty four points in the game. Fifteen of
nineteen shooting from the floor. The folks at stat Zinc
Says SGA to make fifteen shots from the floor and
only play about twenty two minutes. That's the lowest minutes

(30:24):
played by anybody in a game where they made fifteen
field goals since the merger.

Speaker 1 (30:30):
Things got so bad for the Bucks. In that game,
Doc Rivers was playing point guard in the fourth quarter. Yeah,
by the way, people, he is still in the league.
He could just walk in from the sideline. He's on
his fifty second tree the ball, Give me the ball,
Give me the ball. I got my short sun under here.
Give me the ball.

Speaker 4 (30:45):
That's right.

Speaker 6 (30:46):
They lost badly by about thirty tonight.

Speaker 1 (30:48):
But it's not Blake's fault.

Speaker 6 (30:49):
Sacramento gotta win at Minnesota won sixteen one fourteen Tomorrow.
DeRozan thirty three points. Anthony Edwards after illness, he had
missed a game Saturday, did get onto the court tonight
on one points.

Speaker 1 (31:00):
That game he missed.

Speaker 6 (31:01):
Saturday, Minnesota lost to the Wizards, a team that had
lost sixteen in a row, and then Washington won again.
Tonight at Charlotte won twenty four to one fourteen. Charlotte
Hornets have lost five straight. The start of the San
Antonio at Memphis game was delayed due to a fan
getting medical attention. Courtside CPR no update on the fans.

(31:23):
Both teams had been sent to their locker rooms just
before tip off as the emergency services continued, and the
fan was eventually taken out of the court on a stretcher.
At Memphis one twenty eight one oh nine Grizzlies over
the Spurs.

Speaker 1 (31:36):
Memphis has won nine of ten.

Speaker 6 (31:38):
John Morant had missed the win at Milwaukee last night,
was out again with the sore shoulder. Morent did play tonight,
had twenty five points eleven assists. New York came back
in the fourth for a win over Houston, won twenty
four to one to eighteen. Jalen Brunson forty two points
seventeen in the fourth quarter. Atlanta ended an eight game
losing streak, winning in the final seconds at Detroit won

(31:59):
thirty two to one, won thirty three young thirty four points,
including the game winner. Wins for Indiana and Denver, and
there are two late games to update. Golden State mid
third quarter leads sixty two to fifty one over Orlando.
Phoenix is tied at Portland's seventy five all Late in
the third quarter, Devin Booker, all time leading scorer for
the Suns with twenty eight points. Joel Embiid, with his

(32:20):
bad knee, was upgraded to questionable for Philadelphia's game tomorrow.
In college hoops Top twenty match up at Kansas went
to the Jayhawks over Iowa State sixty nine to fifty two.
And Florida State basketball coach Leonard Hamilton will retire after
this season. He's seventy six. A reminder, Fox TV will
have the Super Bowl from New Orleans this Sunday. Browns

(32:42):
All Pro defensive end Miles Garrett requested a trade today
and the Rams informed wide receiver Cooper Cup they will
be trying to trade him back to you.

The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon,
come live from the Tirak dot Com studios. Now, there's
a lot of angles to this. Luka, Doncic, Anthony Davis
trade that took everybody by surprise.

Speaker 4 (34:04):
No, there's a championship. Ye, well we'll get to that.

Speaker 1 (34:07):
We'll get to that parade. Parade Rosburg has already got
it mapped out.

Speaker 4 (34:12):
We're gonna go here, then go here, then.

Speaker 3 (34:13):
Go just don't go under this overpass it might be busy.

Speaker 4 (34:16):
And then we're gonna end at your house, Jason, knock out.

Speaker 3 (34:19):
That's okay.

Speaker 1 (34:19):
You come to my house at the end, like like
you're the Tom Green Show. You're gonna show up at
my house and just knock on the door.

Speaker 3 (34:23):
Three answer, then be a moose.

Speaker 1 (34:30):
But I'll give you one guarantee about this right this
and this is the bill Maher. I don't know it
for a fact. I just know that it's true. There
is no way Lebron James didn't know about this trade
before it went down. There's no way. There's absolutely no way.
The only guy who's really said anything so far has
been Lebron James. Ad has been quiet. But we had

(34:51):
the one story where sources say eighties good with the trade.
Nothing from Luca yet, just the message he add out
to the Mavericks, Hey, I'm you know, thank you for everything.
You landed in La last night. He got off the plane,
did the La thing. He's gonna have his press conference
in a couple of days. But Lebron puts out a
statement after thanking Ad for everything, go kill it. And

(35:13):
the look on his face, the giddiness with which he
did his postgame interview on Saturday following the win over
the nixt right. Usually even after big wins, Lebron is
still a little bit subdued, not you know, looking up
at the crowd when he's talking, not looking at the report,
like you know, the Lebron thing. He'll he'll put his

(35:33):
jersey over his mouth and he'll start talking and looking
around even when he's saying things. He was so giddy
following this win, and I'm watching it going he's really Now.
I get he loves the garden. He loves playing in
Madison Square Garden. I understand this, But at the same time, boy,
he seems really really like overly so happy. And then hey,
I was out at dinner when I knew. Now, I'm

(35:54):
not saying Lebron had an active hand in this, but
there is no way the Lakers trade a d unless
Lebron gives his Hey, I'm okay with if you need
to do that. If you can get Luca do this right,
because things just don't happen. There would have been if
this trade happened and Lebron didn't know about it, it
would be a Lebron and Rich Paul freeze out, and

(36:16):
it would be all kinds of talk about whether or
not Lebron's gonna stay it as he want out of La.
We would hear all of that, or there would not
be anything from Lebron about it. But instead he puts
out the statement in support of a d. There's just
there's no way. Even if the Lakers are resting control
of the team back away from Clutch Sports, which hey, okay,
about time you did that, there's still no because no

(36:37):
team does this. No team makes trades a star player
unless the other star players on the team are in
on it, right, Like if the Knicks ever wanted to
trade Karl Anthony Towns, they're not doing it unless they
tell Jalen Brunson, right. Like if the Warriors are gonna
trade Draymond Green, they're not gonna do it unless they
talk to Steph Curry about it first, right and just
let him know what's going on, And maybe he makes
the call or doesn't, but at least they keep him

(36:58):
in the loop on it. I mean for everybody to
be surprising, like, yeah, sure, but you could tell me
I would if I had to go to Vegas and
bet one way, I would say, there's no way Lebron
didn't know.

Speaker 3 (37:07):
Yeah. In the end, I don't care. I guess gonna
be honest. I'm done with the Lebron as the invisible
hand of the league and this now becomes the great
battle for control and they finally had the upper hand.
If that's it, I'll watch the movie. I think that
could be fun if we can cast out all of
those rules. But you know, Lebron reportedly out to dinner

(37:30):
when this went down, and again we get get through
the back channels and the future of the squad. You're
bringing in a guy of this caliber, it would strike
me as odd if he wasn't pretty well informed of
what might be out there. But if you're gonna believe
the bass story and that's I guess, do you have

(37:52):
to believe the base to really extend from there that
this was really a Hey, you know, Harrison and Polincoln,
we're having a heart to heart. Two guys that have
been in the wars together. They know each other through
you know, Nike Basketball and all of these things. And
that's and that's how this came to pass. And it
was just in this vacuum. It's like, wouldn't it be

(38:13):
funny if it's like, wait, we really should do this.
At least that's the story that's being sold. This is
one of those you might see it at a kid's
puppet theater down the road. I Hey, write a story
that's really uh far fetched about something you like. All right,
let's talk about the NBA. And here here's two guys.
They just started talking, Hey, we're almost at you got

(38:34):
any plans for during the All Star break? Which parties
are you gonna hit up? And then it became a
substance of talk about trade because that's really the other
part we're led to believe as well, yeah, right, that
there's nothing else going on. There was no back channel
discussions that led to a final all right, yeah we're here,
let's go. It was kind of a spur of the

(38:55):
moment Saturday night riffing that becomes a trade comes a Hey.
Lebron was out hitting the town, as were all the
media folks from LA that hadn't caught out to cover
the game. They were a little salty that their nights
were suddenly over.

Speaker 1 (39:10):
I mean, look, if if this was if this was
anything but if this was anything other than that, right,
if there's anything other than the Lakers want to get
better and they want they want to make sure that
Lebron is happy, because you want your guys to be happy.
It Really, there would have been more of a cold
war about this, because as it is enough already. You know,

(39:31):
Luca is still pissed, right, Lucas still pissed.

Speaker 3 (39:34):
Well, Luca's gonna lose one hundred million dollars.

Speaker 1 (39:36):
Luca's dad is pissed, right, he was talking today. You know,
Ad is pissed, even though he says he's okay with
the trade. Everybody's been Like you got Mavericks fans are pissed,
Mark Cuban, it's pissed. Everybody is pissed except Lebron, right,
I mean, I've got these Lakers fans are happy, but everybody,
all the principles of this deal are pissed except for Lebron,
who doesn't seem pissed. So that tells you that, hey,

(39:58):
all right, Because if it was real, taken by surprise, like,
there would have been more time to hear from him. Yeah,
I'm sure he was out at dinner when he found
out the trade actually happened. I don't think that's a lie.

Speaker 3 (40:07):
Oh yeah.

Speaker 1 (40:08):
And I don't know what kind of role he had
in it, But was this was you're gonna you're gonna
trade Ad without telling them? I mean, these guys, these
guys talk to each other, you know, before every single game,
after the game, they get their postgame press conference ready
to go, Hey, what are you gonna say? What are
you gonna say? Like like they have that kind of relationship.
And so to think that that wasn't gonna happen without
this yet. Know that's the one thing I will tell
you about. This took everybody by surprise, did not take

(40:30):
Lebron by surprise.

Speaker 3 (40:31):
Now we know Lebron did take time out to clown
Bill Ryder uh and literally used the clown emoji. In
terms of the reporting out a rift between Lebron and Ad.

Speaker 1 (40:42):
Exit out about a Fresco exit swollen Dome The Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. So trades
are a fever now and coming up next we get
